00:00:11   we're back on the uncomfortable i'm [TS]

00:00:14   jason smell your host and we are talking [TS]

00:00:16   today about this summer's superhero [TS]

00:00:20   motion pictures so comic book [TS]

00:00:23   superheroes brought to the big screen [TS]

00:00:24   there are a crop of them every year we [TS]

00:00:27   have four really i think proper comic [TS]

00:00:30   book superhero movies the summer and [TS]

00:00:32   joining me today to talk about them are [TS]

00:00:35   Dan Morgan hide am I Jason Monty Ashley [TS]

00:00:39   Monty thanks for joining us again led to [TS]

00:00:42   and joining me for the first time but [TS]

00:00:45   not the podcast Tony sindelar Tony [TS]

00:00:48   welcome hi I'm Jason I Jason nice to [TS]

00:00:51   meet you nice to sort of you know Escape [TS]

00:00:53   me either nice to be on a podcast with [TS]

00:00:55   your previous previous podcast you [TS]

00:00:57   appear only when Dan hosts if I noticed [TS]

00:01:00   that too i hereby resign as the host [TS]

00:01:03   goodbye [TS]

00:01:04   so let's uh let's start with oh I'll say [TS]

00:01:10   the x-men there was an x-men movie that [TS]

00:01:12   was not a sequel to those 3313 there [TS]

00:01:16   were three [TS]

00:01:17   well you can't beat you have the [TS]

00:01:18   wolverine one I do ya for [TS]

00:01:20   three-and-a-half wow the the third one [TS]

00:01:25   is the third one the one with the golden [TS]

00:01:26   gate bridge that's really terrible the [TS]

00:01:28   third one is better known as that yet [TS]

00:01:29   the one that the one directed by brett [TS]

00:01:31   ratner where everybody dies and its [TS]

00:01:32   really bad i can tell you that i watched [TS]

00:01:34   the three right after seeing x-men first [TS]

00:01:36   class and that was a mistake so I want [TS]

00:01:40   all three of them that week or more of [TS]

00:01:42   the week after that came out because it [TS]

00:01:43   because x-men first class was so great [TS]

00:01:46   that I was like I'm going to go and [TS]

00:01:47   consume all the other x-men movies [TS]

00:01:48   yeah none of their yeah let's see the [TS]

00:01:53   first one was kind of disappointing the [TS]

00:01:54   second one I thought was better but not [TS]

00:01:55   great my third one was horrible [TS]

00:01:57   see i say the first one the first one [TS]

00:01:58   was my favorite of the three and i [TS]

00:02:00   notice that you didn't say anything [TS]

00:02:01   about Wolverine i did i did not see [TS]

00:02:03   wolverine I was too frightened to see I [TS]

00:02:05   saw in theater is an inside again on DVD [TS]

00:02:08   so like how do you remember after the [TS]

00:02:10   first time I mean I knew what I was [TS]

00:02:13   getting into but it just reflects for [TS]

00:02:15   judgment basically so so you were driven [TS]

00:02:17   to these other perhaps lesser movies [TS]

00:02:20   because you like two x-men first class [TS]

00:02:22   so tell us about it why would you like [TS]

00:02:24   expect for [TS]

00:02:25   class I really enjoyed x-men first class [TS]

00:02:27   i think it was just a really interesting [TS]

00:02:30   take on the superhero movie I think [TS]

00:02:31   setting it not in the present day was [TS]

00:02:33   interesting i think so much of superhero [TS]

00:02:35   movies like we're going to tell [TS]

00:02:36   spider-man as it is you know set in the [TS]

00:02:38   exact error that we're actually making [TS]

00:02:40   the film so setting it in the sixties [TS]

00:02:43   was interesting i think it may be that [TS]

00:02:46   the x-men characters themselves are some [TS]

00:02:48   of the more interesting superhero so [TS]

00:02:49   that was kind of made it more [TS]

00:02:51   interesting [TS]

00:02:51   um it was also they they just had a lot [TS]

00:02:54   of characters that I have not already [TS]

00:02:55   seen their origin stories rehashed so [TS]

00:02:57   there was content that was that was new [TS]

00:02:59   iphone with the x-men movies are so many [TS]

00:03:02   characters that they want to put in [TS]

00:03:04   there that I inevitably end up spending [TS]

00:03:05   after seeing one of the movies a good 45 [TS]

00:03:08   hours reading the wikipedia articles [TS]

00:03:09   about all the different characters and [TS]

00:03:11   different continuities um but i really [TS]

00:03:13   enjoyed the exit the x-men first class [TS]

00:03:14   will be compared to some of the other [TS]

00:03:15   superhero movies this summer [TS]

00:03:18   alright Dan Moore and you've seen every [TS]

00:03:21   superhero movie ever released and I [TS]

00:03:24   praise indeed over half of that [TS]

00:03:26   happening with Tony the vicinity fair [TS]

00:03:28   let's check what did you think about [TS]

00:03:29   first class I thought was pretty good [TS]

00:03:31   um I think it was bolstered by a number [TS]

00:03:33   of things including an excellent cast [TS]

00:03:35   they really did a great job of picking [TS]

00:03:37   people who end and like Tony said it was [TS]

00:03:40   it was an unfamiliar take a lot of these [TS]

00:03:41   characters for many of us you know [TS]

00:03:43   because we were so used to seeing you [TS]

00:03:45   know Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen to [TS]

00:03:47   the scenery with each other who are [TS]

00:03:50   great actors but at the same time it's a [TS]

00:03:52   very different feeling that we get from [TS]

00:03:54   watching these two you know veterans [TS]

00:03:56   sort of duke it out when there's all [TS]

00:03:58   this history that's like implicit but [TS]

00:04:00   not necessarily spelled out this one's [TS]

00:04:02   got Charles Xavier can walk and has hair [TS]

00:04:05   yeah I love that I love that I mean I [TS]

00:04:07   love seeing the parts of him that are [TS]

00:04:08   the flawed because you see so much of [TS]

00:04:10   human me in the in the later / earlier [TS]

00:04:13   movies where he's kind of considered to [TS]

00:04:16   a certain degree sort of infallible and [TS]

00:04:17   like not all-powerful quite but like [TS]

00:04:19   really really powerful and in this movie [TS]

00:04:21   he's still started getting to come to [TS]

00:04:22   grips with his powers [TS]

00:04:23   he's also this really like human [TS]

00:04:25   character i want the scenes with him [TS]

00:04:27   trying to pick up the girls in the bar [TS]

00:04:28   when he's drunk about my comment about [TS]

00:04:31   how their eyes are like mutations or [TS]

00:04:33   whatever and I mean it was funny and [TS]

00:04:35   part of that you know like that credit [TS]

00:04:37   goes to james mcavoy who did a great job [TS]

00:04:39   you know bringing that character to sort [TS]

00:04:40   of a relatable realm i also thought you [TS]

00:04:42   know arguably magneto Michael fasteners [TS]

00:04:45   performance made him he was a really [TS]

00:04:47   interesting character is really complex [TS]

00:04:49   and I think he did a good job of showing [TS]

00:04:51   us that this was a guy who might [TS]

00:04:53   eventually become a villain but you do [TS]

00:04:55   much you get a better idea where he's [TS]

00:04:57   coming from [TS]

00:04:58   and it's not just about revenge which i [TS]

00:05:01   think is sort of how it gets simplified [TS]

00:05:03   and some of the way the other movies [TS]

00:05:05   it's like oh he's just you know he was [TS]

00:05:06   he has a really terrible things onto him [TS]

00:05:08   and sort of heat it's it's biased him [TS]

00:05:10   but you see an attempt with him to try [TS]

00:05:11   and do the right thing that doesn't [TS]

00:05:14   quite pan out and he comes across as a [TS]

00:05:17   much more three-dimensional character to [TS]

00:05:19   me because he has this this relationship [TS]

00:05:21   and you see how it goes bad and I think [TS]

00:05:24   that that central dynamic especially [TS]

00:05:26   really sold the phone for me it wasn't [TS]

00:05:28   it wasn't a perfect film i might draw [TS]

00:05:31   out content january jones is abysmal [TS]

00:05:33   acting performance and otherwise really [TS]

00:05:35   good movie but you know overall i would [TS]

00:05:38   definitely put it up there is I think [TS]

00:05:41   either my top of my number to a close [TS]

00:05:44   number two out of these four out of [TS]

00:05:46   these are out of every movie I've ever [TS]

00:05:47   seen ever ever ever ever [TS]

00:05:49   right right empire strikes back yeah [TS]

00:05:52   movies starting with X and it's [TS]

00:05:55   definitely what I mean and you know [TS]

00:05:57   actually is that joke something I was [TS]

00:05:59   going to say was you know a lot of this [TS]

00:06:00   was pattern on because when the x-men [TS]

00:06:02   was originally written you know sort of [TS]

00:06:04   a Malcolm X Martin Luther King dynamic [TS]

00:06:06   of the peaceful nonviolent versus the [TS]

00:06:09   like you know it's kind of more violent [TS]

00:06:11   like you know resistance and i think you [TS]

00:06:14   get that vibe like there's a really [TS]

00:06:15   interesting sort of civil rights angle [TS]

00:06:17   and then setting in the sixties [TS]

00:06:18   obviously has great resonance with that [TS]

00:06:20   I think there is for a while but then at [TS]

00:06:22   the end of the movie it kind of breaks [TS]

00:06:24   down they have that scene where we just [TS]

00:06:26   stand around on the beach and says well [TS]

00:06:28   we're going to be good and you guys are [TS]

00:06:30   going to be bad from now on everybody [TS]

00:06:32   pick sides [TS]

00:06:33   hooray let's fight they couldn't resist [TS]

00:06:36   turning it into a you know an action [TS]

00:06:38   would be really happy in their money did [TS]

00:06:41   you like it [TS]

00:06:41   I did like it although i don't remember [TS]

00:06:45   much about it which so i could not like [TS]

00:06:47   that that much movie amnesia it happens [TS]

00:06:51   I remember thinking that the bug girl [TS]

00:06:54   was not a very good stripper it's [TS]

00:06:57   important details [TS]

00:06:59   well she revealed her wings by turning [TS]

00:07:02   her back to wake room full of people who [TS]

00:07:05   could only didn't know she was a mutant [TS]

00:07:07   and then hovering three feet off the [TS]

00:07:09   floor or those windows tinted or [TS]

00:07:11   something I mean it was like a private [TS]

00:07:12   room [TS]

00:07:13   I don't think so we could see the [TS]

00:07:14   audience clearly through the windows [TS]

00:07:15   also if you haven't seen there's a [TS]

00:07:17   deleted scene online or extended version [TS]

00:07:19   of that scene where in order to [TS]

00:07:21   demonstrate what he does Charles makes [TS]

00:07:25   her see magneto in a in a dress in drag [TS]

00:07:28   basically which is amusing just for [TS]

00:07:30   seeing Michael Fassbender and drag that [TS]

00:07:34   sounds like an interesting movie I I [TS]

00:07:35   didn't think it was so this is [TS]

00:07:37   fascinating to hear this [TS]

00:07:39   this movie really Jason it was quite [TS]

00:07:41   good i would recommend it certainly I [TS]

00:07:43   mean what love is it freed from some of [TS]

00:07:45   the I mean one of the things I felt [TS]

00:07:47   about making money alluded to this the [TS]

00:07:49   the problem i had with those three x-men [TS]

00:07:51   movies was they had whatever 30 40 years [TS]

00:07:55   of characters and they kind of all just [TS]

00:07:57   stamp them all together and said they're [TS]

00:07:59   all going to school at the same time and [TS]

00:08:01   and so there are some characters who use [TS]

00:08:03   you barely glimpse like ellen page as [TS]

00:08:07   kitty pryde but she's basically like not [TS]

00:08:09   in it and a so-so it in this movie was [TS]

00:08:15   where they freed from the continuity and [TS]

00:08:17   sort of able to pick and choose and just [TS]

00:08:19   make stuff up and had a little bit is [TS]

00:08:21   there still allowed to like winking and [TS]

00:08:23   like you know every minor background [TS]

00:08:25   thing as a reference to something but [TS]

00:08:27   when they go around looking to hire [TS]

00:08:28   every mutant in the world but a runnable [TS]

00:08:30   yeah they run across Wolverine who is [TS]

00:08:33   already an adult and hanging out in a [TS]

00:08:35   bar [TS]

00:08:35   yes but the best cameo possibly ever in [TS]

00:08:38   a movie because he gets one line and it [TS]

00:08:41   is and it's this it's the only it's the [TS]

00:08:43   only f-bombs potter movie [TS]

00:08:45   well if you're gonna have a an f-bomb [TS]

00:08:48   your people now have a Wolverine say you [TS]

00:08:50   know someone someone commented on before [TS]

00:08:53   I felt like oh you know this movie is [TS]

00:08:54   great just for like the best camera of [TS]

00:08:55   all time and I didn't it didn't i didn't [TS]

00:08:58   see it coming and didn't get spoiled so [TS]

00:08:59   when I saw that you know definitely in [TS]

00:09:02   our theater anyways [TS]

00:09:03   lots of people are cracking up at that [TS]

00:09:05   but they do pick and choose a bit in [TS]

00:09:06   terms of like if you are actually [TS]

00:09:08   familiar with the original account new [TS]

00:09:10   the x-men it's not the original group of [TS]

00:09:13   the x-men you know they sort of all [TS]

00:09:14   right right because they kind of stole [TS]

00:09:16   that you know they move that stuff [TS]

00:09:18   forward and in and compressed it all and [TS]

00:09:20   mix it around in the x-men movie so it's [TS]

00:09:22   not like Angel beast marveled at all [TS]

00:09:25   you have be likely you don't have you [TS]

00:09:27   don't have to have site you have in a [TS]

00:09:29   weird movie of Cyclops his brother [TS]

00:09:30   although that's never alluded to [TS]

00:09:32   yeah which is I thought Howard is [TS]

00:09:35   someone who ya have X in it but the end [TS]

00:09:37   he's named Alex summers but like you [TS]

00:09:38   never they never make any reference that [TS]

00:09:41   he has a brother anything which is odd [TS]

00:09:42   and then you get a couple other random [TS]

00:09:44   ones i'm familiar with the x-men up to [TS]

00:09:47   about 1990 and I didn't recognize half [TS]

00:09:50   of the muezzin hear which I liked [TS]

00:09:52   because that means they don't come in [TS]

00:09:53   with a lot of extra baggage [TS]

00:09:55   I really liked the first x-men movie but [TS]

00:09:57   it took me a while to get through the [TS]

00:09:58   fact that although she's called rogue [TS]

00:10:01   she's not rogue she's effectively kitty [TS]

00:10:03   pryde storyline right in that situation [TS]

00:10:08   the comic book knowledge kind of gotten [TS]

00:10:11   my way of enjoying the movie here there [TS]

00:10:14   are people have never heard of so eh [TS]

00:10:15   what the heck [TS]

00:10:16   and then I don't know which was going to [TS]

00:10:17   die suddenly there's always trouble with [TS]

00:10:21   counter-programming that's a good that's [TS]

00:10:23   a feature not a bug not about any other [TS]

00:10:26   thoughts about x-men first class I can't [TS]

00:10:30   wait to see x-men second-class justice [TS]

00:10:33   class this is classics men don't have to [TS]

00:10:35   make it better each time I am a little [TS]

00:10:37   confused what they do with the ongoing [TS]

00:10:39   like x-men continuity because it already [TS]

00:10:41   doesn't join with even you know the [TS]

00:10:44   x-men wolverine movie that came out not [TS]

00:10:45   too long ago and they're making of their [TS]

00:10:47   making a Wolverine sequel to yes vote [TS]

00:10:50   for reading [TS]

00:10:51   yea which was originally thought I am [TS]

00:10:54   one of the most bizarre move that ever [TS]

00:10:55   was originally supposed to be directed [TS]

00:10:57   by darren aronofsky think hasn't stepped [TS]

00:11:00   down but I couldn't you know what i read [TS]

00:11:01   that i read that story like four times [TS]

00:11:03   like really but I think you might yeah I [TS]

00:11:07   think he came to his senses is my pitch [TS]

00:11:09   that fast in the wolverine and the [TS]

00:11:10   furious he did direct you [TS]

00:11:13   Hugh Jackman so I think that was the [TS]

00:11:14   connection is that he directed him and [TS]

00:11:16   media and the fountain right yeah yeah [TS]

00:11:19   so and and darren aronofsky directing [TS]

00:11:21   Hugh Jackman and found and wolverine [TS]

00:11:23   wolverine makes pretty and I I have a [TS]

00:11:26   bad feeling about that movie because [TS]

00:11:27   it's it seems to be taking the storyline [TS]

00:11:30   that drove me away from the character of [TS]

00:11:32   wolverine and help drive me away from [TS]

00:11:34   the x-men which is hey Wolverines cool [TS]

00:11:37   let's have him go to Japan and fights [TS]

00:11:39   various sort of samurai ninja people for [TS]

00:11:42   months [TS]

00:11:43   yeah that'll be great you didn't like [TS]

00:11:46   the wolverine and Kitty Pryde graphic [TS]

00:11:47   novel that was a classic well anything [TS]

00:11:50   with kitty pryde i will i will be there [TS]

00:11:52   but the whole like he gets he's got a [TS]

00:11:55   girlfriend he marries her whatever but [TS]

00:11:57   she's in too deep with the with the the [TS]

00:12:00   mobsters in Japan and its just oh I you [TS]

00:12:04   know beforehand that well that's [TS]

00:12:06   apparently what this livery noir I would [TS]

00:12:08   watch that and then he stabs a thousand [TS]

00:12:10   inches pray with ya with his clothing [TS]

00:12:12   and just can't get rid of them they're [TS]

00:12:16   like rats cockroaches [TS]

00:12:17   yeah all right we all just any ninjas [TS]

00:12:20   were listening haha good point [TS]

00:12:22   our topic today is inches alright we [TS]

00:12:25   will move on then to movie number two in [TS]

00:12:28   are sweeping detailed map maybe if you [TS]

00:12:32   look at at the superhero movies from the [TS]

00:12:34   summer [TS]

00:12:35   how about Thor let's talk about Thor i [TS]

00:12:40   have a Couture all right Monty sharing [TS]

00:12:43   your opinions on Thor please [TS]

00:12:45   I watched it with an open mind and i [TS]

00:12:49   still think it's really really stupid [TS]

00:12:51   that they made them aliens [TS]

00:12:53   I mean that is it how do you even mean [TS]

00:12:56   it's like an arthur c clarke thing [TS]

00:12:57   really how do you tell the difference [TS]

00:12:58   between aliens and like super powerful [TS]

00:13:00   beings like or God's basically well [TS]

00:13:03   these aliens have wormholes and [TS]

00:13:04   spaceships and telescopes [TS]

00:13:08   I mean but I can't you just pretend [TS]

00:13:10   they're magic [TS]

00:13:11   I would have liked to but they kept [TS]

00:13:13   putting planets into the storyline it's [TS]

00:13:16   like a Highlander to whoa whoa whoa [TS]

00:13:19   which I don't think is a good thing to [TS]

00:13:20   say about any movie they couldn't just [TS]

00:13:22   say this is a God so okay this is an [TS]

00:13:26   alien but then they have characters on [TS]

00:13:28   earth looking through books of Norse [TS]

00:13:30   mythology [TS]

00:13:31   and you think at some point they would [TS]

00:13:33   pick up that book and say have you seen [TS]

00:13:35   what it says here about my brother Loki [TS]

00:13:38   the god of lies [TS]

00:13:39   oh my god what's gonna happen to me when [TS]

00:13:41   I fight this worm is oh is that what it [TS]

00:13:43   comes down to is that the alien I mean [TS]

00:13:45   it's not as bad as the to hear it [TS]

00:13:48   this is a loaded question which is that [TS]

00:13:49   there is a whole campaign out there that [TS]

00:13:51   was really upset that they made heimdal [TS]

00:13:54   black when using campaign [TS]

00:13:57   you mean like crazy whites like this yes [TS]

00:14:00   on the internet surprise of all places I [TS]

00:14:04   didn't my time doll being black I minded [TS]

00:14:06   a interest Elba having to put on all [TS]

00:14:08   that costume and then stand there so you [TS]

00:14:11   could only see two inches of his eyes [TS]

00:14:13   and a huge effect on his voice so [TS]

00:14:15   there's no point in him even showing up [TS]

00:14:17   yeah but he was still awesome he was he [TS]

00:14:19   did a great job of standing there i'm [TS]

00:14:21   not sure i could do as well so well [TS]

00:14:23   obviously the answer here is that he's [TS]

00:14:25   black because they're aliens and not [TS]

00:14:27   from Scandinavia right i mean their gods [TS]

00:14:31   who cares what color yeah like Logan the [TS]

00:14:34   grim was in this and he was an Asian [TS]

00:14:36   gentleman of some variety and I didn't [TS]

00:14:38   see anybody complaining about that [TS]

00:14:41   no you're not going to the right chat [TS]

00:14:42   rooms are ya listenin he ok [TS]

00:14:46   other thoughts about the word am I i [TS]

00:14:48   actually enjoyed for um I was not bother [TS]

00:14:52   i have never been a Thor reader i don't [TS]

00:14:56   i really know very little of the [TS]

00:14:57   mythology behind for i mean i know some [TS]

00:14:59   of the mythology mythology behind door [TS]

00:15:01   but uh is not the comic book i know i [TS]

00:15:03   mean i thought they did a good job with [TS]

00:15:05   um there are a lot of things I thought [TS]

00:15:08   they they could have been done a lot [TS]

00:15:10   more like I you know they played him is [TS]

00:15:12   very much like a fish out of water water [TS]

00:15:13   character which I think could have [TS]

00:15:15   easily been overdone but instead they [TS]

00:15:17   just give it kind of a he kind of [TS]

00:15:19   doesn't care like I love that he just [TS]

00:15:20   walks around like he owns the place and [TS]

00:15:22   there's you know there's a scene where [TS]

00:15:23   they're in a in a diner or something and [TS]

00:15:25   you know he drinks a cup of coffee and [TS]

00:15:27   then when he's done with it he smashed [TS]

00:15:28   the coffee cup on the floor goes for a [TS]

00:15:30   coffee or something you know like he [TS]

00:15:32   played I thought they'd chris hemsworth [TS]

00:15:34   did a good job of sort of playing that [TS]

00:15:35   character to the hilt [TS]

00:15:36   um and making him very you know arrogant [TS]

00:15:40   and kind of in need of that come up and [TS]

00:15:42   that he that he gets towards the end [TS]

00:15:44   and I think they played a couple of good [TS]

00:15:47   moments 44 comedy he repeatedly gets hit [TS]

00:15:49   by a car which is actually music and of [TS]

00:15:54   course now the apartment in it and I [TS]

00:15:55   refused to say anything bad about I [TS]

00:15:57   still don't think there's going to be a [TS]

00:15:59   very good King once he gets to be king [TS]

00:16:01   well and the other issue with this is [TS]

00:16:03   that much like Captain America which [TS]

00:16:04   we'll discuss in a moment they end very [TS]

00:16:07   similarly don't think in the sense of [TS]

00:16:09   not really ending [TS]

00:16:11   oh they're both adventurous setups yes [TS]

00:16:13   they are both very clearly like well I [TS]

00:16:16   lost that girl i really like the end [TS]

00:16:19   this as they Sarah longingly through [TS]

00:16:22   some place where they're stuck you know [TS]

00:16:23   like that they didn't want to be I guess [TS]

00:16:25   there's no time for romantic subplot in [TS]

00:16:27   the next movie with all these other [TS]

00:16:28   movies crammed into it too [TS]

00:16:30   yeah probably not but don't worry there [TS]

00:16:32   will be 42 and and also may i say my [TS]

00:16:34   favorite random thing about for which [TS]

00:16:36   was the being directed by kenneth [TS]

00:16:37   branagh that's the first time i heard [TS]

00:16:39   that that's like darren aronofsky [TS]

00:16:40   depicting foolery [TS]

00:16:42   yeah it's not like they're going to [TS]

00:16:44   directing room to carry its get a prada [TS]

00:16:47   demanded Shakespeare's a little [TS]

00:16:49   different war it is a little strange of [TS]

00:16:52   all I would never have guessed and a [TS]

00:16:55   couple of that would be had its own good [TS]

00:16:57   cameo jeremy renner appears briefly as [TS]

00:17:00   Hawkeye osaka and I really one of my [TS]

00:17:04   favorite sort of random characters who I [TS]

00:17:05   don't think is actually a comic [TS]

00:17:06   continuity character in any way is up [TS]

00:17:08   Clark Gregg's SHIELD agent who I just [TS]

00:17:12   really enjoy Coulson brightly they keep [TS]

00:17:14   sending them around to do crazy things [TS]

00:17:15   and he gets he gets a much bigger role [TS]

00:17:16   in this movie than any of the ones to [TS]

00:17:18   date he's not just like yeah the [TS]

00:17:20   henchmen and I really i enjoyed him or [TS]

00:17:23   hammer finder and iron man 2i think his [TS]

00:17:26   entire job was to go [TS]

00:17:27   hey found a hammer right and so they [TS]

00:17:29   sort of expand upon that here and he's [TS]

00:17:31   actually like in charge of this whole [TS]

00:17:32   field installation alright Tony what did [TS]

00:17:36   you think of four against I was a little [TS]

00:17:38   disappointed with Dora and I was not [TS]

00:17:40   familiar with the source material ahead [TS]

00:17:42   of time but it [TS]

00:17:43   I don't know it just all felt like kind [TS]

00:17:45   of a chore and setting up for Avengers [TS]

00:17:47   on which some people might say the same [TS]

00:17:49   about Captain America but enjoyed that [TS]

00:17:51   along with this i don't know i just i [TS]

00:17:53   felt like it was [TS]

00:17:54   was there a lot of sections that were [TS]

00:17:55   really boring there's a lot of just cgi [TS]

00:17:57   fight scenes with them fighting you know [TS]

00:18:00   prostrations for forever of it felt [TS]

00:18:02   tedious i guess they were just there [TS]

00:18:04   were all these characters in it that [TS]

00:18:06   we're not very interesting or we didn't [TS]

00:18:09   get to spend enough time with them to [TS]

00:18:10   find out what about the might be [TS]

00:18:12   interesting having already has his kind [TS]

00:18:14   of his his three friends that the [TS]

00:18:15   Warriors Three we don't really get to [TS]

00:18:18   find out too much about them so that it [TS]

00:18:19   kind of felt like they're in here [TS]

00:18:20   because they're part of the earth or [TS]

00:18:22   continuity so we need to maintain them [TS]

00:18:24   as being here but you're not going to [TS]

00:18:25   actually find out much about them in [TS]

00:18:26   this movie and maybe you won't even see [TS]

00:18:27   them again adventures because there's [TS]

00:18:29   going to be a million other characters [TS]

00:18:30   and adventures to worry about so i don't [TS]

00:18:33   know i wasn't as impressed with this one [TS]

00:18:34   is some of it as a as with x-men first [TS]

00:18:37   class or other movies that summer is [TS]

00:18:39   tore himself a compelling character I [TS]

00:18:42   mean he's got he's got the Marvel thing [TS]

00:18:44   in that he's sort of at you know he's [TS]

00:18:46   outcast and all that but he's he's a god [TS]

00:18:49   he's got all these powers and I I don't [TS]

00:18:51   believe they did the full-on kind of [TS]

00:18:53   Thor story where he's like a guy who [TS]

00:18:56   thinks he's a like a doctor with a bad [TS]

00:18:59   leg and only you know the thor and they [TS]

00:19:01   didn't do that or the comic is like the [TS]

00:19:03   Hulk and he sort of like a guy who just [TS]

00:19:05   discovers that he can transform into a [TS]

00:19:08   god and in the movie he's just like [TS]

00:19:10   chris hemsworth right he's like hey I'm [TS]

00:19:12   cool i'm thorry the government under the [TS]

00:19:14   whole time is right although he gets he [TS]

00:19:16   gets to rob his package you know Anthony [TS]

00:19:18   Hopkins takes his powers away until this [TS]

00:19:21   is your key still kind of badass [TS]

00:19:23   compared to your every still like a [TS]

00:19:24   giant giant guy [TS]

00:19:25   yeah yeah but he said he's not not as [TS]

00:19:27   not as bad as he is when he's like that [TS]

00:19:29   is hammers and so does that character [TS]

00:19:31   workers he just too awesome and perfect [TS]

00:19:33   to to be believable as kind of a [TS]

00:19:35   character you cannot replace it felt [TS]

00:19:38   like he was like Superman without there [TS]

00:19:40   being any Clark Kent right well he says [TS]

00:19:42   he's just awesome all the time thats [TS]

00:19:44   that's kinda boring shortlist of these [TS]

00:19:46   like he's awesome and doesn't you know [TS]

00:19:48   doesn't know how to cross the street [TS]

00:19:50   Oh shortly before I saw thor i read [TS]

00:19:54   about 10 years worth of the Avengers on [TS]

00:19:56   my iPad and Thor is a super super boring [TS]

00:19:59   character [TS]

00:20:00   yeah like originally like you say he's [TS]

00:20:03   he's got a alternate identity as a [TS]

00:20:06   cripple doctor [TS]

00:20:07   any of these ever away from his hammer [TS]

00:20:09   for more than 30 seconds he reverts but [TS]

00:20:12   unlike Superman he never goes back to [TS]

00:20:15   that character at least in the Avengers [TS]

00:20:17   they don't have a lot of time for that [TS]

00:20:19   so it's always and here comes Thor to [TS]

00:20:21   beat something up say something flowery [TS]

00:20:23   and fly off again [TS]

00:20:24   yes no he's not he's not that [TS]

00:20:28   interesting I mean for comic he can be [TS]

00:20:30   more interesting but I i agree with you [TS]

00:20:32   and the most memorable issue or run of [TS]

00:20:35   Thor that I certainly that I can recall [TS]

00:20:38   is the one where somebody else were an [TS]

00:20:40   alien actual alien gets the hammer which [TS]

00:20:42   is beta ray bill in the Walt Simonson [TS]

00:20:44   run where an alien ends up being worthy [TS]

00:20:47   of the powers of Thor and you got this [TS]

00:20:48   guy who isn't for and who's like a space [TS]

00:20:51   alien who who gets the hammer and starts [TS]

00:20:54   to do stuff with it and it's sort of [TS]

00:20:56   like hey I've got an awesome idea of how [TS]

00:20:58   we can improve Thor know Thor I see the [TS]

00:21:01   way you say about that and again I [TS]

00:21:02   didn't read much more but that's kind of [TS]

00:21:04   the way I feel about the whole which is [TS]

00:21:05   like he's a and the reason that the [TS]

00:21:08   previous Hulk movie I haven't done very [TS]

00:21:10   little for me was that you know the Hulk [TS]

00:21:12   himself as a character is extremely on [TS]

00:21:15   interesting which is to say you can't [TS]

00:21:16   talk woman only knows that i do is smash [TS]

00:21:19   things there you've got you've got Bruce [TS]

00:21:21   Banner who was really kind of tormented [TS]

00:21:24   and you know you can do some things with [TS]

00:21:27   that may be but you're right it is it is [TS]

00:21:28   a problematic character but i always [TS]

00:21:30   thought that Thor was even more [TS]

00:21:32   problematic [TS]

00:21:33   yeah see I i think i enjoyed this [TS]

00:21:35   product this this version of Thor more [TS]

00:21:39   than that just because he is in that way [TS]

00:21:41   he's kind of unlike a lot of the other [TS]

00:21:43   superheroes I mean who have that like oh [TS]

00:21:45   god I've got to balance these two [TS]

00:21:46   identities were hanging I kind of [TS]

00:21:48   enjoyed the fact that he's just like 3-4 [TS]

00:21:49   days like you know what I'm four I'm [TS]

00:21:51   just gonna go with that he was a big [TS]

00:21:53   cheerful lummox which is a nice change [TS]

00:21:55   I guess yeah i mean he's not your Indian [TS]

00:21:57   and I think you know there's something [TS]

00:21:59   entertaining about watching him just [TS]

00:22:01   sort of go through the motions of being [TS]

00:22:03   like I'm just this this is who I am my [TS]

00:22:05   god I'm used to being a god there's not [TS]

00:22:07   really a lot of identity questioning in [TS]

00:22:09   that and you know i am that that's [TS]

00:22:11   different from like there's the feels [TS]

00:22:13   like a lot of the other superheroes have [TS]

00:22:14   so much angst it's like I really i can [TS]

00:22:17   really drive out all that like oh god [TS]

00:22:19   maybe I don't want to [TS]

00:22:21   powers as I have to fight evil man that [TS]

00:22:24   really sucks i just want to be a [TS]

00:22:25   teenager and do my homework [TS]

00:22:27   the only thing I liked about the [TS]

00:22:29   Fantastic Four movie was that chris [TS]

00:22:31   evans seemed cheerful about having [TS]

00:22:33   superpowers who I I could fly and burn [TS]

00:22:37   things ya know I i I'm with you there [TS]

00:22:40   and that was those were both really bad [TS]

00:22:41   movies but i agree with you about chris [TS]

00:22:43   evans and we'll get to him in a minute [TS]

00:22:45   but one question I have for you guys [TS]

00:22:48   since you saw it and I didn't is on a [TS]

00:22:51   previous podcast i talked about TV show [TS]

00:22:53   that I really liked called Cupid with [TS]

00:22:55   jeremy piven and he's he's a God who is [TS]

00:22:58   cast out to earth and he keeps saying [TS]

00:23:00   all on cupid i'm a god love and they all [TS]

00:23:03   say oh you're a crazy person [TS]

00:23:05   so is there any of that in this movie [TS]

00:23:07   where the doors like hey you're [TS]

00:23:08   essentially here and there like that's [TS]

00:23:09   like the middle our check their result [TS]

00:23:12   there's a whole lot of him claiming to [TS]

00:23:14   be thor and people basically this means [TS]

00:23:15   that he's a mental patient alright yeah [TS]

00:23:17   and yet you're doing him a favor you [TS]

00:23:20   like looking at a time just like a big [TS]

00:23:24   giant guy like you find in the desert [TS]

00:23:26   and like he seems disoriented and like [TS]

00:23:28   out of touch with reality i'm not gonna [TS]

00:23:30   bring him home he hit him with a car [TS]

00:23:31   first like you know they felt disaster [TS]

00:23:34   it's like driving a way to get with a [TS]

00:23:36   lot of cars he does it I don't know I [TS]

00:23:38   did the pratfalls just did it for me I [TS]

00:23:40   think he's so big he has a gravity field [TS]

00:23:42   at power of the gods or aliens or yeah [TS]

00:23:48   although i'll agree that they nobody [TS]

00:23:50   seeing through Loki was pretty pathetic [TS]

00:23:53   hello Loki got allies that was all [TS]

00:23:56   Odin's fault by the way he explicit this [TS]

00:23:58   guy's the worst father ever in this [TS]

00:24:00   movie [TS]

00:24:01   he takes us to sign that says lower your [TS]

00:24:05   real king material you're gonna be king [TS]

00:24:08   of where your heavy guard Asgard of [TS]

00:24:11   scienter a dimension or that's something [TS]

00:24:13   anyway you Loki you're a terrible [TS]

00:24:15   disappointment [TS]

00:24:16   well I set my bow so you're adopted [TS]

00:24:19   don't forget angle let me show you this [TS]

00:24:23   room where we keep all the things that [TS]

00:24:24   you could use against me that was not as [TS]

00:24:27   best strategic decision [TS]

00:24:29   anthony hopkins what were you thinking [TS]

00:24:31   he got to get paid [TS]

00:24:33   get ok let's move on and since I know [TS]

00:24:37   everybody is dying to talk about Green [TS]

00:24:40   Lantern let's talk about Green Lantern [TS]

00:24:43   who did anybody here Jason [TS]

00:24:46   did anybody see it Daniel shot this [TS]

00:24:48   isn't funny and I told me about that you [TS]

00:24:51   see god yes it's always good to have a [TS]

00:24:53   buddy it is because i think we're going [TS]

00:24:55   to see them by myself [TS]

00:24:57   ok I won't tell me about Green Lantern [TS]

00:25:02   Green Lantern you know as bad as they [TS]

00:25:04   say Dan [TS]

00:25:05   I you know I i will say it's not a good [TS]

00:25:08   movie [TS]

00:25:09   let's not always well we can agree on [TS]

00:25:11   its is green [TS]

00:25:12   it's there there's a went there is a [TS]

00:25:14   lantern um you know what lighting things [TS]

00:25:17   up right I'm able to say that is in [TS]

00:25:23   prior to stay and in blackest night no I [TS]

00:25:26   i will say that is definitely not a good [TS]

00:25:28   movie [TS]

00:25:29   however that said it is not an awful [TS]

00:25:32   movie I've seen considerably worse [TS]

00:25:34   movies remix and anybody who says that [TS]

00:25:36   this is a terrible movie hasn't clearly [TS]

00:25:38   never seen mortal kombat annihilation is [TS]

00:25:40   all in 24 or Fantastic Four [TS]

00:25:42   yeah i mean it really it's mediocre and [TS]

00:25:45   in that sense maybe disappointing in its [TS]

00:25:47   mediocre earnest I think mediocrity is [TS]

00:25:51   the word you're looking for there but ok [TS]

00:25:52   in me mediocracy now I'm that's a [TS]

00:25:55   different thing I i will say that one [TS]

00:25:58   thing that I get kind of like about this [TS]

00:25:59   movie is that they they did spend a lot [TS]

00:26:02   of time off of Earth I mean that way I [TS]

00:26:05   guess it's somewhat similar to a tooth [TS]

00:26:07   or but I it was kind of cool to see the [TS]

00:26:10   entirety like the green lantern corps [TS]

00:26:12   and basically you know tons of different [TS]

00:26:14   random looking aliens and they did you [TS]

00:26:16   know pull out a lot of stops there i [TS]

00:26:18   mean granted yes it's all CGI whatever [TS]

00:26:20   but it was kind of interesting to see [TS]

00:26:22   that spin on a superhero is decidedly [TS]

00:26:25   more galactic in his point of view than [TS]

00:26:26   just like oh it's earth man earth in [TS]

00:26:29   trouble again there's a birth [TS]

00:26:31   although that they do sort of fall back [TS]

00:26:33   into that trap but you know there's [TS]

00:26:37   there's some good stuff in there [TS]

00:26:38   although I know Tony will want to talk [TS]

00:26:40   about his his favorite scene from the [TS]

00:26:41   movie which is where children beats up a [TS]

00:26:44   bunch of guys who is already caused a [TS]

00:26:45   booster shot [TS]

00:26:46   what a journey it's a big achievement i [TS]

00:26:52   did not understand that scene except he [TS]

00:26:55   he's a he's a test pilot and a kind of a [TS]

00:26:58   questionable and because he crashes an [TS]

00:27:00   airplane and so like the project gets [TS]

00:27:02   cancelled and so like all the friends [TS]

00:27:05   from the the you know the aircraft [TS]

00:27:07   company or not as hard or become is not [TS]

00:27:09   friends and like beat him up outside a [TS]

00:27:10   bar which kind of unclear whether [TS]

00:27:12   hanging outside the bar so they just [TS]

00:27:14   jumped him and he uses his green lantern [TS]

00:27:16   powers and beat the crap out of it i [TS]

00:27:19   mean actually i have now they have no [TS]

00:27:20   jobs and then being up Jordan ladies and [TS]

00:27:25   gentlemen the Green Lantern i'll also [TS]

00:27:27   that he does i do appreciate that there [TS]

00:27:29   was like despite the fact that you so [TS]

00:27:31   the love interest here [TS]

00:27:33   blake lively is a you know they've known [TS]

00:27:35   each other since they were kids I do [TS]

00:27:37   appreciate at least that that he's sort [TS]

00:27:39   of mask doesn't really hold up past [TS]

00:27:41   about 30 seconds when she actually liked [TS]

00:27:43   meet him face-to-face because that's one [TS]

00:27:45   of those things right with all [TS]

00:27:46   superheroes you're like Clark Kent he's [TS]

00:27:48   got glasses great whatever like you [TS]

00:27:50   can't tell the difference [TS]

00:27:52   I kind of wish comic book movies would [TS]

00:27:53   just do those straight or not to them [TS]

00:27:55   though like why give them the mask and [TS]

00:27:59   then make fun of it [TS]

00:28:00   can't you just be a sincere movie for [TS]

00:28:02   once it's not that they make fun of it [TS]

00:28:04   so much is like it's a you know it's a [TS]

00:28:06   mask and she she recognizes him because [TS]

00:28:08   she knows him and they do reference the [TS]

00:28:12   mask just being like only four cases [TS]

00:28:14   where the identity needs to be protected [TS]

00:28:16   because like what he doesn't wear it at [TS]

00:28:19   all none of them wear it when they're [TS]

00:28:20   off planet right like that matter so I [TS]

00:28:24   thought they did a decent job with that [TS]

00:28:25   I thought they did you see job with the [TS]

00:28:26   alien stuff the plot is you know fairly [TS]

00:28:29   forgettable as far as I by the way if [TS]

00:28:32   you're ever introduced to a guy whose [TS]

00:28:34   name is semester oh yeah who want to [TS]

00:28:38   think that can go bad might not be there [TS]

00:28:42   he's okay in the movie yeah well until [TS]

00:28:45   the end until you absolutely have [TS]

00:28:46   setting up for the Green Lantern to [TS]

00:28:48   movie that may never get made it his [TS]

00:28:50   twin brother genuino uh-huh gets no love [TS]

00:28:54   so let's move on enough of this green [TS]

00:28:56   lantern craziness let's move on to [TS]

00:28:59   captain america has everybody seen [TS]

00:29:02   captain america and africa right captain [TS]

00:29:05   canada way better and i also see Captain [TS]

00:29:08   America with you yes you did but some [TS]

00:29:10   three out of four the skeptic buddy [TS]

00:29:11   system in action [TS]

00:29:13   it's good to see it's safe it's safe [TS]

00:29:14   that way I thought this was great what [TS]

00:29:16   did you guys think i really liked [TS]

00:29:18   captain america [TS]

00:29:19   yeah love it yeah yeah I gave it a big [TS]

00:29:22   thumbs up [TS]

00:29:23   I enjoyed it it's so Rocketeer director [TS]

00:29:27   yeah so Johnson to Johnson i love it and [TS]

00:29:30   i know you love the rocketeer so it I [TS]

00:29:32   one of the things I loved about it was [TS]

00:29:34   its period you know just the whole [TS]

00:29:37   committing to the whole period thing [TS]

00:29:38   that it's the colors are very retro and [TS]

00:29:44   the kind of faded a little bit and you [TS]

00:29:47   know obviously it's styled as a world [TS]

00:29:49   war two thing and but even in the tone [TS]

00:29:51   it's a it's a it's a world war two movie [TS]

00:29:53   there's some stuff in it's kind of corny [TS]

00:29:54   and you know the same time like well of [TS]

00:29:57   course it's corey its sub it's a world [TS]

00:29:59   war two movie it's fine that it's corny [TS]

00:30:02   because it's from a different period and [TS]

00:30:04   you know I just loved seeing something [TS]

00:30:06   that felt different because it was said [TS]

00:30:08   in this different period in it and and [TS]

00:30:11   they could do some stuff that you don't [TS]

00:30:12   normally see in a in a comic book [TS]

00:30:14   superhero movie [TS]

00:30:15   well that whole like the whole thing [TS]

00:30:17   with the USO for example i thought was [TS]

00:30:19   great like you know where they have them [TS]

00:30:21   doing this [TS]

00:30:22   selling the war bonds basically yeah you [TS]

00:30:24   know i mean it made sense right because [TS]

00:30:26   despite the fact that you do have this [TS]

00:30:28   guy who is kind of like proven to be [TS]

00:30:29   this in a superhero whatever is like he [TS]

00:30:31   doesn't know what he's doing he's not [TS]

00:30:33   he's not trained [TS]

00:30:34   no they don't train them they whisk him [TS]

00:30:36   away and immediately use them as a [TS]

00:30:37   propaganda propaganda yeah i mean III [TS]

00:30:39   agree that the period stuff and it's [TS]

00:30:41   interesting that both of the two you [TS]

00:30:44   know the most successful superheroes of [TS]

00:30:45   them your movies of the year our period [TS]

00:30:48   right movies as well that was really [TS]

00:30:50   interesting and Captain America it's [TS]

00:30:51   hard to do captain america today right [TS]

00:30:53   you know [TS]

00:30:55   oh yeah it means something very [TS]

00:30:56   different yeah and and I think that [TS]

00:30:59   that's you know I think there's [TS]

00:31:00   something potentially really interesting [TS]

00:31:02   stuff in bringing Kimmy from the 40 like [TS]

00:31:04   the 1940s version of Steve Rogers into [TS]

00:31:08   the modern day right like there's some [TS]

00:31:09   really interesting culture class there [TS]

00:31:11   and of course with what with all the [TS]

00:31:12   stuff that the crazy [TS]

00:31:13   stuff that Marvel's done the last few [TS]

00:31:14   years with its comic book line you know [TS]

00:31:16   it's the there's a lot of potential for [TS]

00:31:20   telling an interesting story about this [TS]

00:31:22   guy who is used to this [TS]

00:31:23   hey i'm from this area of raw patriotism [TS]

00:31:25   and now i'm in the modern day where [TS]

00:31:27   things really aren't so black and white [TS]

00:31:29   but i agree i thought that the they did [TS]

00:31:32   a fantastic job of capturing Aaron [TS]

00:31:34   remaining extremely authentic and [TS]

00:31:36   honestly I gotta come down to I really [TS]

00:31:39   find Chris Evans likable he's just he's [TS]

00:31:42   really something about that you know and [TS]

00:31:44   he has actor I find him just really you [TS]

00:31:47   know fun it was not only my favorite [TS]

00:31:49   part of Fantastic Four who's my favorite [TS]

00:31:51   part of the movie the losers which is [TS]

00:31:53   yellow sleeves are voices he's the best [TS]

00:31:55   character in that and that having read [TS]

00:31:57   the complex dude like he was also [TS]

00:31:58   definitely the best actor in that prison [TS]

00:31:59   for jeffrey dean morgan who is like you [TS]

00:32:02   can't afford George Clooney that's it's [TS]

00:32:05   next Monday [TS]

00:32:07   what do you think I liked it a lot I [TS]

00:32:10   really i'm a sucker for any movie with [TS]

00:32:12   an old-timey a world's fair in it huh [TS]

00:32:15   that's a is that a lot of movies [TS]

00:32:18   well so far no but there's nobody like [TS]

00:32:21   you get out how disconcerting pandering [TS]

00:32:24   to me it's an emergency on rua I'm i one [TS]

00:32:27   thing i liked a lot was that they [TS]

00:32:30   justified him running around in the [TS]

00:32:32   actual captain america costume and [TS]

00:32:36   didn't really feel like pandering like [TS]

00:32:39   they actually recreated the first [TS]

00:32:41   captain america cover where he Sox hit [TS]

00:32:44   there on the jaw right yeah that's [TS]

00:32:47   awesome without him actually punching [TS]

00:32:49   Hitler because apparently we can't have [TS]

00:32:51   them actually fighting Nazis we get it [TS]

00:32:53   was there was a disappointing recognizes [TS]

00:32:55   yeah what does this is an interesting [TS]

00:32:57   decision they made as they made it about [TS]

00:32:58   Hydra which is like you know the Nazis [TS]

00:33:01   are bad and the real war is happening [TS]

00:33:03   and and I liked that they did he meet [TS]

00:33:05   with the real GIS who are fighting the [TS]

00:33:07   real war because it you could you could [TS]

00:33:09   almost the little world war two if you [TS]

00:33:14   said well captain america to care of [TS]

00:33:16   everything so instead they've got the [TS]

00:33:18   the real war happening and then they've [TS]

00:33:19   sort of superimposed this other war [TS]

00:33:22   which is Hydra against this special part [TS]

00:33:25   of the US government [TS]

00:33:26   according to the internet they were [TS]

00:33:28   gonna have two cameos that didn't make [TS]

00:33:29   the movie one was magneto in a prison [TS]

00:33:32   camp that captain america fries and one [TS]

00:33:36   was Wolverine just out there fighting as [TS]

00:33:39   a soldier huh [TS]

00:33:41   and I would have been interesting well [TS]

00:33:43   it is funny that there's a striking [TS]

00:33:45   absence of actual Nazis in a movie [TS]

00:33:47   that's all about World War two [TS]

00:33:48   they had not ceased in the x-men movie [TS]

00:33:50   like they're worse than Nazis but the [TS]

00:33:52   Hydra is even worse than there were [TS]

00:33:55   Nazis you know so that was a little bit [TS]

00:33:57   strange but you know i like the scene [TS]

00:33:59   with the GI where he finally decides [TS]

00:34:01   they basically they don't like his stick [TS]

00:34:03   his stick works back home but he comes [TS]

00:34:05   to entertain the troops and that they're [TS]

00:34:07   not interested they want to see the [TS]

00:34:08   girls because they think he's just a [TS]

00:34:09   pretty boy which he is really just a guy [TS]

00:34:12   in a costume is not actually fighting [TS]

00:34:13   and and that was great because it gave [TS]

00:34:16   it some of that realism of like you know [TS]

00:34:18   the war though as we know what is [TS]

00:34:19   happening and now we're going to go back [TS]

00:34:21   he's gonna go back off and find hugo [TS]

00:34:23   weaving in his that's why I really [TS]

00:34:26   really like that baby you know Steve [TS]

00:34:28   Rogers as a character right like he [TS]

00:34:30   could very easily be bland and be the [TS]

00:34:32   all-american guy but I like that he's [TS]

00:34:35   you know he's very clearly this i mean [TS]

00:34:38   if you want to call me naive or [TS]

00:34:39   idealistic sure I'm in a very very much [TS]

00:34:41   is like I want to fight because I want [TS]

00:34:43   to do my my part [TS]

00:34:45   PS bullies right i mean that's the right [TS]

00:34:48   part of him getting beaten up and why [TS]

00:34:49   Stanley Tucci chooses him which I liked [TS]

00:34:53   you know that he's like--he's and i love [TS]

00:34:55   that I actually really liked that line [TS]

00:34:57   which is the you know the weak man [TS]

00:34:58   knowing the value of strength like its [TS]

00:35:00   kind of be you know with great power [TS]

00:35:01   comes great responsibility angle but I I [TS]

00:35:04   like that and I like Stanley Tucci a lot [TS]

00:35:06   he's great in that absolutely is sort of [TS]

00:35:08   bitter i thought he was Gene Wilder for [TS]

00:35:10   half the move [TS]

00:35:10   hahaha that seems unlikely [TS]

00:35:14   well one cycle Loompas have him go we [TS]

00:35:16   had better although I have to say that [TS]

00:35:18   my my favorite see my favorite little [TS]

00:35:19   throwaway seen in the beginning that is [TS]

00:35:21   I want any chases the Nazi guys that are [TS]

00:35:24   the Hydra agent down [TS]

00:35:25   always running down the street and the [TS]

00:35:27   guy takes the kid and throws the kid in [TS]

00:35:29   the water and the kid goes I got him [TS]

00:35:33   that did make me crack up I really like [TS]

00:35:36   they spent so much time with steve [TS]

00:35:37   rogers establishing him as a character [TS]

00:35:41   before making him captain america [TS]

00:35:43   because it's so easy with the captain [TS]

00:35:46   america origin to say he's the perfect [TS]

00:35:49   soldier because he's huge and muscular [TS]

00:35:51   and blonde but they actually yeah well [TS]

00:35:54   either way I found surprisingly not see [TS]

00:35:56   when you put it that way like someone [TS]

00:35:58   else will know that's that's I think one [TS]

00:36:00   of the great tricks in the in the [TS]

00:36:04   creation of that character in the [TS]

00:36:05   forties was having him be not somebody [TS]

00:36:09   who was always the golden boy but [TS]

00:36:12   actually appreciated being the underdog [TS]

00:36:14   and you know with a clever way to have a [TS]

00:36:17   blonde super strong character who still [TS]

00:36:20   you know represents something something [TS]

00:36:22   different and yeah that was also kind of [TS]

00:36:24   amazing what they did with the effects [TS]

00:36:26   to make Chris Chris Evans actually [TS]

00:36:28   looked like a scrawny short guy from you [TS]

00:36:30   know from Brooklyn is a couple shots [TS]

00:36:33   where it looks not right but I'm gonna [TS]

00:36:36   spray it works great yeah most part i [TS]

00:36:37   can look beyond it when his face was [TS]

00:36:39   that about three-quarters angle [TS]

00:36:41   sometimes it didn't quite line up right [TS]

00:36:43   which might have been because I was [TS]

00:36:44   staring at his face the whole time [TS]

00:36:46   thinking how they do that how they do [TS]

00:36:48   that Oh his chin is wrong [TS]

00:36:49   got him know they were ever really bold [TS]

00:36:50   with it i mean i think that's the end of [TS]

00:36:52   work that they didn't just like have it [TS]

00:36:53   in one scene and then he puts on his [TS]

00:36:55   shirt and he's tall and muscular but [TS]

00:36:57   let's not speak of it [TS]

00:36:58   yeah and it looks really i mean you know [TS]

00:37:00   it looks very convincing you know as the [TS]

00:37:02   effects ago I think and they get some [TS]

00:37:05   you know we do get some time with some [TS]

00:37:06   of the secondary characters always all [TS]

00:37:08   this point i would like to have more [TS]

00:37:09   time with some of the the Howling [TS]

00:37:10   Commandos who i think are our kind of [TS]

00:37:12   fun and but we get very brief mouth with [TS]

00:37:16   them except where with with poor Bucky [TS]

00:37:17   do you think that's Nick Furies father [TS]

00:37:20   with the new lineup [TS]

00:37:22   I think it's got to be right because it [TS]

00:37:23   was originally Nick Fury yeah but [TS]

00:37:26   there's no way that's the same Nick Fury [TS]

00:37:27   is we have now probably nor is it [TS]

00:37:32   ah well da yeah no it's not [TS]

00:37:38   anyway that's it that's all settled all [TS]

00:37:41   right then no speculation need no I did [TS]

00:37:44   what what do you think about how to [TS]

00:37:45   handle Bucky I thought that was an [TS]

00:37:47   interesting way to try and and tell the [TS]

00:37:49   Bucky story without obviously it doesn't [TS]

00:37:51   happen the way it happens in the into [TS]

00:37:54   comics where it sort of bucky dies and [TS]

00:37:56   Captain America gets frozen instead they [TS]

00:37:58   sort of split those up but you know I [TS]

00:38:02   knew it was coming because Peter Bucky's [TS]

00:38:04   not gonna market but he's not going to [TS]

00:38:06   make it kids so you know it's but but [TS]

00:38:10   what do you think about how the handles [TS]

00:38:12   are all old Bucky I mean there is a I [TS]

00:38:16   mean there is a shock value to it still [TS]

00:38:17   like that in that brief moment right [TS]

00:38:19   when he when he falls and you're like oh [TS]

00:38:21   my god like oh ok well i guess that kind [TS]

00:38:24   of makes sense but like you know III [TS]

00:38:26   don't know I until your best move it [TS]

00:38:29   yeah I mean there's something to it it [TS]

00:38:31   was more realistic i like the [TS]

00:38:33   relationship because it was more [TS]

00:38:35   realistic than the comic book where he's [TS]

00:38:36   worried sidekick lucky discovers that [TS]

00:38:39   captain america is Steve Rogers because [TS]

00:38:41   he goes into his tent while he's [TS]

00:38:42   changing had steve says what you got me [TS]

00:38:47   kid [TS]

00:38:48   hey you want to go help me fight Nazis [TS]

00:38:49   incredibly dangerous fashion is your you [TS]

00:38:52   shown that you're capable of wandering [TS]

00:38:54   into attend so no this was instead of [TS]

00:38:58   his buddy who is his buddy but is [TS]

00:39:00   actually capable of fighting and that [TS]

00:39:02   was a nice thing and then he meets them [TS]

00:39:04   again and so now he's a you know now [TS]

00:39:06   he's captain america and you're right [TS]

00:39:10   that wasn't that happens awfully fast [TS]

00:39:12   where suddenly they're like part of a [TS]

00:39:13   crack team with the power & commandos [TS]

00:39:16   and they're going on a mission that was [TS]

00:39:19   that was a real quick turnaround [TS]

00:39:21   yeah i mean i don't know how much you [TS]

00:39:23   can do in a movie that's already you [TS]

00:39:24   know got a lot packed in yet and they I [TS]

00:39:27   mean they they got some-some you know [TS]

00:39:29   not like super well-known actors but [TS]

00:39:31   there are some notable actors among the [TS]

00:39:33   commandos including Neil MacDonald yeah [TS]

00:39:34   as a dum-dum Dugan and a couple of the [TS]

00:39:38   other guys to in there but you know [TS]

00:39:40   there's only so much time you can spend [TS]

00:39:41   in the home and I'm in a movie that's [TS]

00:39:43   about Captain America right i'd like to [TS]

00:39:46   see I want to see how the 80-year old [TS]

00:39:47   versions of them in adventures of a [TS]

00:39:49   Howlin commandoes movie alright that'll [TS]

00:39:51   be dad that was awesome i would totally [TS]

00:39:52   watch that I would've been perfectly [TS]

00:39:54   happy to watch an hour of [TS]

00:39:56   captain america and the Howling [TS]

00:39:57   Commandos busting up Nazis and save the [TS]

00:40:00   red skull thing to the next movie [TS]

00:40:02   yeah yeah yeah I hear that but you gotta [TS]

00:40:05   you gotta get him into the you gotta get [TS]

00:40:07   into the modern-day yeah that was part [TS]

00:40:10   of a the thing going on here they need [TS]

00:40:12   to tell this whole story because they [TS]

00:40:13   want him to be in the adventures and you [TS]

00:40:15   know I I liked how they handled it I [TS]

00:40:17   thought that the end of the movie was [TS]

00:40:18   actually pretty cool although you know [TS]

00:40:21   did didn't they know when he went [TS]

00:40:22   missing couldn't have found a baseball [TS]

00:40:24   game from from the next year [TS]

00:40:26   come on call the Hall of Famer come on [TS]

00:40:28   shield you can do better than that you [TS]

00:40:30   can do better [TS]

00:40:31   col de Havel's order to grow up like [TS]

00:40:33   that unless I mean he's he's frozen in [TS]

00:40:36   ice it's like you can keep it frozen ice [TS]

00:40:38   for a couple weeks like get the details [TS]

00:40:39   or did you know yeah let's go all gently [TS]

00:40:43   yeah and if you're going to and if [TS]

00:40:45   you're going to keep him in a special [TS]

00:40:46   hotel convince a judge cell doesn't [TS]

00:40:50   really have to be a block off times [TS]

00:40:52   where yeah yeah with no locked doors [TS]

00:40:55   yeah that was and that's a relatable [TS]

00:40:56   locked doors that is a really cool scene [TS]

00:40:58   yeah where he runs out into modern times [TS]

00:41:00   square but but it's not practical [TS]

00:41:04   really i think perhaps that seems to not [TS]

00:41:05   have been in the commercials [TS]

00:41:07   Oh was it out yeah there's a shot where [TS]

00:41:10   you see Captain America standing in [TS]

00:41:11   modern day times square that they had in [TS]

00:41:13   the TV commercial for the movie came out [TS]

00:41:15   well you get the framing story to write [TS]

00:41:17   because it opens with them finding that [TS]

00:41:19   ship right yeah yeah I'm being like oh [TS]

00:41:21   hey someone's frozen ice someone was [TS]

00:41:25   this shield where guys start on it [TS]

00:41:27   no no that would Tony words you and I [TS]

00:41:29   betting like before they really look but [TS]

00:41:31   yeah we thought it would get there going [TS]

00:41:32   like wife something away and there's [TS]

00:41:34   gonna be like he's gonna stick up [TS]

00:41:35   yeah there were introduced was because [TS]

00:41:36   there were no they don't but there were [TS]

00:41:38   no not so you know the the real Marvel [TS]

00:41:41   tie in here I think is the the fact that [TS]

00:41:44   although it's never really gone into is [TS]

00:41:46   that it's tony stark's dad yet inventor [TS]

00:41:49   of all these crazy gadgets for the for [TS]

00:41:51   the u.s. government and the guy kind of [TS]

00:41:53   a the guy who plays a much like tony is [TS]

00:41:55   reminiscent of the Tony Stark character [TS]

00:41:57   from the iron man movie so I don't know [TS]

00:41:59   yeah sadly dominic cooper who I do like [TS]

00:42:02   you can't [TS]

00:42:03   it is an ambulance guy doing a Brooklyn [TS]

00:42:05   accent [TS]

00:42:06   very strange for after i did like the [TS]

00:42:09   revelation that the whole stark family [TS]

00:42:10   is super fun to be around [TS]

00:42:12   yeah that party for good it's a party [TS]

00:42:15   with the stark boys drinking flying you [TS]

00:42:17   know that kind of invention having weird [TS]

00:42:20   subplots about fondue that was bizarre [TS]

00:42:24   oh yeah I enjoy it i enjoyed i mean i [TS]

00:42:26   gotta say i also enjoyed a Hayley Atwell [TS]

00:42:28   as Peggy Carter I thought that you know [TS]

00:42:30   she wasn't she wasn't a very you know [TS]

00:42:32   she wasn't a totally flat you know [TS]

00:42:34   heroin right she had some associates and [TS]

00:42:37   issues quirky and they made her English [TS]

00:42:39   which I thought was fun that she's an [TS]

00:42:40   English captain america like some [TS]

00:42:42   English girl like Captain how could you [TS]

00:42:45   what about our American girls they're [TS]

00:42:48   not good enough well I'll or allies i [TS]

00:42:51   like their complete refusal to explain [TS]

00:42:53   that one guy in the movie even said [TS]

00:42:55   you're British what's going on she [TS]

00:42:57   punches him that moving on anybody else [TS]

00:43:00   who brings it up i'm positive you to [TS]

00:43:02   hear me audience just shut up and watch [TS]

00:43:05   the movie so I'm one of the things as a [TS]

00:43:08   parent I was impressed with this movie [TS]

00:43:12   because i feel like this is a superhero [TS]

00:43:15   movie that i could easily shoot my kids [TS]

00:43:17   who are poor are 10 and 7 you know some [TS]

00:43:21   superhero movies are violent in a way [TS]

00:43:25   and scary in a way that I I find kind of [TS]

00:43:28   an unpleasant or at least questionable [TS]

00:43:29   for for younger kids and although this [TS]

00:43:31   movie is a pg-13 and it does have a guy [TS]

00:43:34   getting chopped up by a propeller and it [TS]

00:43:38   feels like 50 guys [TS]

00:43:40   yeah they kill lots of guys and yet I [TS]

00:43:41   didn't it didn't actually feel you know [TS]

00:43:43   Corey or or I mean doesn't really take [TS]

00:43:46   write a famous star wars they take the [TS]

00:43:48   star wars cheat to write which is ever [TS]

00:43:51   you know pretty much all the guys he [TS]

00:43:52   kills are in like the bouncer and get up [TS]

00:43:55   yeah they hydrate get up right so the [TS]

00:43:56   they're not really people they could be [TS]

00:43:58   robots that you don't know you don't [TS]

00:43:59   know and the guy and the guy who goes [TS]

00:44:01   through the propeller the the airplane [TS]

00:44:03   propeller you know he it's like watching [TS]

00:44:06   a mist come out of a vaporizer you know [TS]

00:44:08   it's just straight it's just an in-kind [TS]

00:44:11   missed it's not like chunks so it means [TS]

00:44:14   I i found the scene and raiders of the [TS]

00:44:16   lost ark is much more kind of disturbing [TS]

00:44:18   with the ball [TS]

00:44:19   Lattimore yes right like it's it's you [TS]

00:44:22   know that's that's left up to your [TS]

00:44:23   imagination which is worse yeah this is [TS]

00:44:25   a cgi going through a cgi propeller and [TS]

00:44:28   turning into you know [TS]

00:44:29   CTIC Jeb Bush see I thought it was odd [TS]

00:44:32   that this is one of the few superheroes [TS]

00:44:34   who just carries a gun around and [TS]

00:44:36   actually shoot people with it [TS]

00:44:37   yeah it even the Phantom are the only [TS]

00:44:40   movie superheroes I can have who do that [TS]

00:44:42   that's good good point he does for a guy [TS]

00:44:44   carrying a gun and maybe finds a lot of [TS]

00:44:46   excuses to punch people and slammed with [TS]

00:44:48   the shield and yeah just get us really [TS]

00:44:50   stop so that people get like you know [TS]

00:44:51   knocked out and things like that so [TS]

00:44:53   there's you know there's a lot of [TS]

00:44:56   shooting he does other stuff too i'm not [TS]

00:44:58   saying he's just mr. gotten that but you [TS]

00:45:01   just have the gun with him [TS]

00:45:02   yeah i mean the rocketeer had a gun to I [TS]

00:45:04   don't think he shoot anybody with it [TS]

00:45:05   either [TS]

00:45:06   yeah so so Dan you feel some some of [TS]

00:45:08   that Rocketeer vibe I certainly is [TS]

00:45:10   especially with the open the girl 2 I [TS]

00:45:12   was like oh joe johnston he likes having [TS]

00:45:14   that data that romantic romantic figure [TS]

00:45:17   who looks because because I looked at [TS]

00:45:20   her and I was like yes she pushes a lot [TS]

00:45:21   of the same buttons jennifer connelly [TS]

00:45:23   does the right and and they've got that [TS]

00:45:25   same sort of dynamic where it's you know [TS]

00:45:27   he's kind of a little bit bumbling [TS]

00:45:28   despite being right rear oh yeah she's [TS]

00:45:31   got it over on him on that score right [TS]

00:45:33   right Andy you know and that he's you [TS]

00:45:35   know it's kind of accidental sort of you [TS]

00:45:37   know he's becoming a superhero in some [TS]

00:45:38   ways um but yeah I know there's there's [TS]

00:45:41   a lot there and I think you know Justin [TS]

00:45:43   did it as good a job you know capturing [TS]

00:45:45   that the world of this you know the [TS]

00:45:47   world war 2 as he did with the thirties [TS]

00:45:50   in in the rocketeer and yeah I don't [TS]

00:45:54   want to do it definitely did did tug [TS]

00:45:56   some of the same chords there and i [TS]

00:45:59   think yeah they're both really I really [TS]

00:46:00   enjoyable movies and I do love the [TS]

00:46:02   rocketeer dearly so i have a one last [TS]

00:46:06   superhero a question for you guys which [TS]

00:46:08   is we've just talked for nearly an hour [TS]

00:46:11   about Green Lantern Thor Captain America [TS]

00:46:13   and the early days of Professor X and [TS]

00:46:17   Magneto so I have to ask you have they [TS]

00:46:20   run out of comic book superhero stories [TS]

00:46:25   to tell [TS]

00:46:25   have we are we scraping the bottom of [TS]

00:46:27   the barrel now know the [TS]

00:46:30   expound okay uh Superman and Batman [TS]

00:46:34   stories have been going on since the [TS]

00:46:36   nineteen forties they're not all good [TS]

00:46:38   but even if only one percent of them are [TS]

00:46:41   good [TS]

00:46:41   that's lots of stories to tell Marvel [TS]

00:46:44   has been going on since the nineteen [TS]

00:46:45   sixties and they buy 1965 had something [TS]

00:46:49   like ten separate titles all going at [TS]

00:46:51   once [TS]

00:46:53   even with an incredibly low hit rate [TS]

00:46:55   there's gotta be good stories you can [TS]

00:46:57   tell about even jerks like ant-man and [TS]

00:46:59   the wasp but making rice was at some [TS]

00:47:03   point gonna do an ant-man movie also [TS]

00:47:04   know that is happening anymore and i [TS]

00:47:06   would i would totally watch that time of [TS]

00:47:10   year i think but i mean but i think the [TS]

00:47:11   questions do people want to see those [TS]

00:47:13   characters I mean that people who read [TS]

00:47:15   the comics and know about these [TS]

00:47:17   characters is one thing but you know and [TS]

00:47:19   iron man would be the argument for right [TS]

00:47:21   which is ironman second to your [TS]

00:47:22   character and that was great movie and [TS]

00:47:23   very successful and but Green Lantern [TS]

00:47:25   would be the argument against if you [TS]

00:47:27   make a good movie with entertaining [TS]

00:47:29   characters people will be happy to go [TS]

00:47:30   see them [TS]

00:47:31   you can't just throw a hundred million [TS]

00:47:33   dollars of CGI onto film and say well [TS]

00:47:36   this guy started a comic book in 1973 my [TS]

00:47:39   work is done here [TS]

00:47:40   well I mean you know case in point [TS]

00:47:42   Superman Returns which you know arguably [TS]

00:47:45   one of the most visible unit arguably [TS]

00:47:46   the most famous superhero of all time [TS]

00:47:48   right in a movie that was not very good [TS]

00:47:51   yeah and i think that there's you know [TS]

00:47:53   there's still time there and of course [TS]

00:47:54   there they are doing a new superman [TS]

00:47:56   movie they've completely failed several [TS]

00:47:58   times to do anything with wonder woman [TS]

00:48:00   who is a challenging you know a [TS]

00:48:04   challenging figure i think in this you [TS]

00:48:06   know day and age i'm doing Batman that [TS]

00:48:08   I'm sure there's three or four more [TS]

00:48:10   Batman movies and I mean this is the [TS]

00:48:11   other this is the other thing to write [TS]

00:48:13   is like that they continually focus on [TS]

00:48:15   redoing the origin stories [TS]

00:48:17   Oh like time time so we're doing [TS]

00:48:19   spider-man again next year you know and [TS]

00:48:22   it's like except for Iron Man which I [TS]

00:48:24   actually like they're redoing of the [TS]

00:48:25   origin story I never want to see another [TS]

00:48:27   origin story like we know and jumper man [TS]

00:48:30   is we know who Batman is just world and [TS]

00:48:33   we gotta be something interesting story [TS]

00:48:35   about them [TS]

00:48:36   I kind of enjoyed that in the incredible [TS]

00:48:38   hulk which you know has a lot of issues [TS]

00:48:39   that basically they did the origin story [TS]

00:48:41   like over the [TS]

00:48:42   credit sequence in there like now the [TS]

00:48:43   movie can start so ya know I I think [TS]

00:48:46   that's looking for it you know like [TS]

00:48:47   introducing your ok if on the off chance [TS]

00:48:49   you've never heard of this guy lets lets [TS]

00:48:51   you know sort of roll that out but but [TS]

00:48:54   let's focus the story on some other far [TS]

00:48:56   more interesting part [TS]

00:48:57   yeah the Angli Hulk spent like an hour [TS]

00:49:01   timeout saying what was that green thing [TS]

00:49:05   that just did something we know what it [TS]

00:49:07   was it was the hall [TS]

00:49:08   let's see him smash stuff for your [TS]

00:49:09   wasting my time watching all three dogs [TS]

00:49:11   help Hulk dog is not even called the [TS]

00:49:14   alcoholic [TS]

00:49:15   oh thanks angrily yeah but you haven't [TS]

00:49:18   made good movies but that was not 10 so [TS]

00:49:21   before we go are there any other movies [TS]

00:49:22   that you would like to make a case for [TS]

00:49:24   being close enough to this topic to [TS]

00:49:27   bring out by before we started recording [TS]

00:49:29   I heard some I heard some chatter about [TS]

00:49:31   other movies that arguably could be [TS]

00:49:34   comic book movies that came out this [TS]

00:49:36   year i watch the movie entitled priest [TS]

00:49:38   3d although i did not watch it and all [TS]

00:49:40   of the DS that were available well did [TS]

00:49:42   it you admit you miss daddy you let or [TS]

00:49:43   did you watch it 1d I wanted to wanted e [TS]

00:49:46   I jose height and width [TS]

00:49:49   okay good i tried watching it just [TS]

00:49:51   height and depth but I couldn't really [TS]

00:49:52   see what was going on very confusing and [TS]

00:49:55   this movie is allegedly based on a comic [TS]

00:49:57   book so I'd like to share my two [TS]

00:49:59   favorite things about this movie [TS]

00:50:00   alright one you need to be a trained [TS]

00:50:03   priests to shoot the vampires vampires [TS]

00:50:06   don't move very quickly but we are told [TS]

00:50:08   they moving something called concentric [TS]

00:50:11   points so lets you know about concentric [TS]

00:50:15   point can never shoot a vampire wait [TS]

00:50:17   wait so jeans be a priest or a geometry [TS]

00:50:19   know you need to be as a trained [TS]

00:50:21   geometry test to write the screenplay i [TS]

00:50:24   believe and the other thing is there's a [TS]

00:50:26   moment when paul bettany whose character [TS]

00:50:28   is called priest where he has defied is [TS]

00:50:32   the giant cgi rhino looking thing that's [TS]

00:50:36   on a ledge above him so he runs forward [TS]

00:50:38   and then the female priests throws some [TS]

00:50:40   rocks in front of him and as Paul that [TS]

00:50:43   need leaps into the air the first rock [TS]

00:50:45   find its way under his foot and he steps [TS]

00:50:47   on it like a stairway in midair and that [TS]

00:50:51   launches himself farther into the air [TS]

00:50:53   then steps on the next rock and [TS]

00:50:56   don't forget what happens but i think he [TS]

00:50:57   killed the Rhino something at and and [TS]

00:51:00   correct me here that this is paul [TS]

00:51:01   bettany this is not the movie with the [TS]

00:51:05   angels who are trying to kill everybody [TS]

00:51:07   that's a different priest movie that's [TS]

00:51:10   legion a Legion yeah but it wasn't a [TS]

00:51:13   priest [TS]

00:51:14   yes it is also not at all been a movie [TS]

00:51:16   with the ship and mercy no reason anjel [TS]

00:51:19   I don't know I guess the Legion are you [TS]

00:51:23   crazy i've got standards i watch it on [TS]

00:51:25   netflix streaming you know i don't [TS]

00:51:27   remember i believe he's an angel any as [TS]

00:51:29   a machine gun [TS]

00:51:30   well as that was like I'm not sure they [TS]

00:51:32   got is that Michael is Michael I and he [TS]

00:51:35   he's down on earth to do good stuff [TS]

00:51:37   before and he talking all Batman come on [TS]

00:51:40   Mikey Mikey to his friends like he's [TS]

00:51:42   here to do Mikey the Archangel here to [TS]

00:51:44   do good with his machine gun [TS]

00:51:46   well he's gonna kill the bad angels oh [TS]

00:51:48   ok murderous Angela yeah yeah i hate [TS]

00:51:51   those jerks they are they're jerks ok so [TS]

00:51:54   priest skip it unless you want to see a [TS]

00:51:57   guy who walk on throne you come you can [TS]

00:52:00   probably find them on youtube right I [TS]

00:52:03   are you a big fan of the trope of after [TS]

00:52:06   the apocalypse everybody dresses in [TS]

00:52:07   western gear and everything is kind of d [TS]

00:52:10   saturated so it looks almost black and [TS]

00:52:12   white the ESI me up [TS]

00:52:14   well then good news i made another [TS]

00:52:16   excellent [TS]

00:52:18   that is my favorite genre with dan what [TS]

00:52:23   was your so I was saying that that boys [TS]

00:52:26   an alien voice cowboys and technical [TS]

00:52:28   based on a comic book i'll leave that [TS]

00:52:31   movie was pretty good it did have it I [TS]

00:52:34   feel bad that my favorite scene in that [TS]

00:52:36   movie involved the main character [TS]

00:52:40   basically breaking someone else you know [TS]

00:52:42   someone else's hand but it was but I it [TS]

00:52:45   made me laugh a lot so and that guy was [TS]

00:52:47   kind of you know he had it coming [TS]

00:52:49   they're aliens they're Cowboys check on [TS]

00:52:52   both fronts alright delivered [TS]

00:52:54   they delivered Harrison Ford and your [TS]

00:52:56   hearts are at in the indiana jones and [TS]

00:52:57   James Bond were both in that movie any [TS]

00:53:00   other movies that we should talk about [TS]

00:53:02   conan the barbarian kind of based on a [TS]

00:53:05   comic book is it based on a novel that [TS]

00:53:07   was also adapted into a comic [TS]

00:53:09   look you would like to think that they [TS]

00:53:11   read the books before making the movie [TS]

00:53:13   but i'm pretty sure they read the comic [TS]

00:53:15   book for it or just watch the arnold [TS]

00:53:17   schwarzenegger movie i don't think they [TS]

00:53:18   did that or the the animated series from [TS]

00:53:22   when I was growing up which actually [TS]

00:53:23   toss me that would be like making a [TS]

00:53:25   Godzilla movie are we watching the God's [TS]

00:53:27   elect cartoon from the eighties that had [TS]

00:53:29   God zuki Godzilla's precocious supposin [TS]

00:53:32   I would watch that [TS]

00:53:36   yeah but Sookie the motion picture i [TS]

00:53:38   would i would just just wants them are [TS]

00:53:41   you have some standard i would pay for [TS]

00:53:43   it you pirate it WI that when do I was [TS]

00:53:47   on netflix away for children are if [TS]

00:53:48   somebody was showing it in front of your [TS]

00:53:50   face you wouldn't actively close your [TS]

00:53:52   eyes I wouldn't close my eyes [TS]

00:53:54   yea Monty did you see conan I did I [TS]

00:53:56   liked it a lot cone and I guess it's not [TS]

00:53:58   about our show host they go back and [TS]

00:54:00   forth some of them in the movies a conan [TS]

00:54:03   some sake Owen and I think the nate the [TS]

00:54:05   pronunciation Conan has taken over the [TS]

00:54:08   cultural lead when conan o'brien got the [TS]

00:54:11   gig doing late-night everybody called [TS]

00:54:13   him cone an and it's come that far that [TS]

00:54:15   that that he is now the most recognized [TS]

00:54:18   Conan and that the poor sword carrying [TS]

00:54:21   barbarian is is a hat has had to change [TS]

00:54:25   his pronunciation shameful so so jason [TS]

00:54:28   momoa from Game of Thrones is conan the [TS]

00:54:31   barbarian is he any good or is he better [TS]

00:54:32   as cal Drogo in Game of Thrones it's [TS]

00:54:35   interesting because the two characters [TS]

00:54:37   while basically the same big muscular [TS]

00:54:40   dude that kills things well that's his [TS]

00:54:42   bit right Jason Momoa Stargate he was [TS]

00:54:45   also a big muscular badass dude they're [TS]

00:54:49   not really the same thing is called [TS]

00:54:50   Drogo I think likes being a ruler he [TS]

00:54:53   likes just real cleaning out his pile of [TS]

00:54:56   skulls telling people what to do as you [TS]

00:54:59   do yes partly horse horse riding horse [TS]

00:55:02   but Conan like to do is just fight stuff [TS]

00:55:05   but even right he's busy simpler soul [TS]

00:55:09   even before it's jason momoa he's killed [TS]

00:55:13   like 20 guys in the arnold [TS]

00:55:15   schwarzenegger movie cone and spent some [TS]

00:55:18   time as a slave chained to a big wheel [TS]

00:55:20   that doesn't happen to this code and [TS]

00:55:22   because he will kill anything that [TS]

00:55:23   pubs near him which happens a lot more [TS]

00:55:26   is true to your general tolerates no [TS]

00:55:28   wheels [TS]

00:55:29   yeah he doesn't need to be changed to a [TS]

00:55:32   wheel to turn into a big muscular guy he [TS]

00:55:35   doesn't like Evelyn and swearing revenge [TS]

00:55:37   huh an essential part of any medieval [TS]

00:55:41   workout I understand what does he have [TS]

00:55:43   to [TS]

00:55:44   what's his revenge with his friend was [TS]

00:55:45   he trying to avenge all the bad guys [TS]

00:55:47   calm and write the movie starts with a [TS]

00:55:50   long boring explanation about some [TS]

00:55:52   magical crown that got destroyed and [TS]

00:55:56   scattered across the four winds and then [TS]

00:56:00   the bad guy starts the movie with all [TS]

00:56:02   but one piece that he gets the piece [TS]

00:56:03   from CODIS village so it doesn't even [TS]

00:56:06   turn out to be the MacGuffin but in the [TS]

00:56:08   process of getting that he kills conan's [TS]

00:56:10   mother and father no just cut corners [TS]

00:56:12   father and everyone in the village i put [TS]

00:56:14   it towards mother dies giving versed in [TS]

00:56:16   the middle of a battle and she has his [TS]

00:56:19   father cut the baby out of her belly so [TS]

00:56:21   you can see it before she died so she's [TS]

00:56:23   his first victim [TS]

00:56:24   yes and he's on one covered in blood [TS]

00:56:26   really just you know when up from there [TS]

00:56:29   yeah there's lots of gore in this movie [TS]

00:56:31   I would not take the seven-year-old in [TS]

00:56:33   the ten-year-old ok good tip good tip [TS]

00:56:36   did you like it [TS]

00:56:37   I thought it was okay like there's only [TS]

00:56:40   so good at kona movie is going to be and [TS]

00:56:43   I think this content movie did it was up [TS]

00:56:45   on the hit the ceiling of of movies that [TS]

00:56:47   are about code and yeah it's got a giant [TS]

00:56:49   mountain shaped like a skull [TS]

00:56:52   let's go check a muscular guy waving [TS]

00:56:54   swords around and it's got a weaselly [TS]

00:56:57   little sidekick thief check so it did [TS]

00:57:01   everything I was supposed to Monte is is [TS]

00:57:03   there I i got there's the one checkbox [TS]

00:57:05   you didn't check which is there is there [TS]

00:57:07   a love interest for Conan oh yes there [TS]

00:57:10   is a check thanks here and she's a woman [TS]

00:57:13   of some sort as i remember is that she [TS]

00:57:15   does she take off her clothes at any [TS]

00:57:19   point [TS]

00:57:20   yes alright you then we have concluded [TS]

00:57:23   scientifically it's all it all helps [TS]

00:57:26   when you added up scientifically [TS]

00:57:27   by-the-numbers this is as good as a [TS]

00:57:29   conan movie can be i thought so [TS]

00:57:32   alright i watched caron and more [TS]

00:57:34   recently the rest of these movies have [TS]

00:57:36   just a guy I picked up on that i was [TS]

00:57:38   going to say your deets your [TS]

00:57:40   recollection of the details of cone and [TS]

00:57:42   is striking compared to your [TS]

00:57:44   recollection of Thor well my main [TS]

00:57:46   recollection of Thor's that i found it [TS]

00:57:47   boring [TS]

00:57:48   yeah it's hard to go into a lot of [TS]

00:57:49   detail about me going so there's that [TS]

00:57:51   other standard which was dull i like [TS]

00:57:54   when he went into the pet store and [TS]

00:57:56   wanted to buy a horse that was funny [TS]

00:57:57   that that is probably my favorite scene [TS]

00:58:01   what does natalie portman do in that [TS]

00:58:03   movie she's a scientist [TS]

00:58:05   she looks yeah yeah that's around it [TS]

00:58:07   looks pretty sure we're a lab coat she [TS]

00:58:09   falls in love with she's not that kind [TS]

00:58:10   of scientist the other kind she wasn't [TS]

00:58:12   little anymore duty from her what she [TS]

00:58:14   said on a lawn chair on the roof of what [TS]

00:58:16   i think is a restaurant she's what you [TS]

00:58:18   might consider an action sign other kind [TS]

00:58:20   of scientists that kind of doesn't wear [TS]

00:58:22   a lab coat then she's a field scientist [TS]

00:58:24   always around a funny VIN yeah in fields [TS]

00:58:26   early in the movie agent Coulson's goons [TS]

00:58:29   steal all their lab equipment which I [TS]

00:58:30   assume you're included their lab coats [TS]

00:58:33   ok so Agent Coulson does not want her [TS]

00:58:36   wearing a lab coat [TS]

00:58:37   nope probably would have stolen her top [TS]

00:58:40   two if you got no we have to get away [TS]

00:58:42   with it on neck Furies orders i'm [TS]

00:58:43   guessing fury makes me so angry so next [TS]

00:58:49   next year we'll get that avengers movie [TS]

00:58:51   directed by joss whedon then we'll see [TS]

00:58:53   what Marvel has been trying to lead us [TS]

00:58:55   up to for the last 45 make a movie that [TS]

00:58:58   u2 was like seven other movies to [TS]

00:58:59   everyone the problem also is that the [TS]

00:59:01   superhero movies often have this [TS]

00:59:03   tendency to just pack too much in and [TS]

00:59:05   adventures comes pre-packed with too [TS]

00:59:07   much unless somebody very respected the [TS]

00:59:10   Avengers is like five hours long and [TS]

00:59:12   it's really just set up for the avengers [TS]

00:59:14   2 and four two and Captain America to an [TS]

00:59:18   iron man 3 and a half and all of these [TS]

00:59:22   are which have the subtitle electric [TS]

00:59:23   really we're just building up to 20 [TS]

00:59:26   twenties west coast avengers wasn't [TS]

00:59:29   there wasn't there like a Cleveland [TS]

00:59:31   Avengers 2 there was added which great [TS]

00:59:34   lake of it leave ya feelin needed its [TS]

00:59:37   own event great lake aventurine that [TS]

00:59:39   city is in worse shape than I thought [TS]

00:59:41   yeah there was an Avengers based on the [TS]

00:59:43   Great Lakes and there was a Justice [TS]

00:59:44   League based in Detroit [TS]

00:59:46   yeah like those things are true yeah I [TS]

00:59:49   thought it was odd that the [TS]

00:59:50   The Avengers are based in New York in [TS]

00:59:51   the comic books which is also where the [TS]

00:59:53   Fantastic Four are based it's where [TS]

00:59:55   spider-man is basis for dr. Strange's [TS]

00:59:57   basis for doing a lot of crime [TS]

00:59:59   oh also [TS]

00:59:59   oh also [TS]

01:00:00   what will come next in DC comics with [TS]

01:00:01   you go there if you're a criminal [TS]

01:00:03   you're a criminal in the Marvel Universe [TS]

01:00:05   I advise you to go to someplace other [TS]

01:00:07   than New York like not you want us yeah [TS]

01:00:09   wait [TS]

01:00:11   alright i'm going to call it here at [TS]
