00:01:06   yeah [TS]

00:01:07   hey that's right behind the last year [TS]

00:01:09   ever [TS]

00:01:12   have to hear about the Mayan at the [TS]

00:01:14   entry here the Mayans all will climb on [TS]

00:01:16   to it like a boat and push off a ghost [TS]

00:01:19   just disappear into the sea [TS]

00:01:22   I believe they're boarding a comet [TS]

00:01:23   wearing their Nikes excellent and purple [TS]

00:01:26   munchos that's right that's good [TS]

00:01:28   sassy yeah ah this is so the topic of [TS]

00:01:30   our podcast is the heavens gate doomsday [TS]

00:01:32   colors because he's gonna say these [TS]

00:01:34   jokes are ripped-from-the-headlines [TS]

00:01:35   we've got ahold lemon grove california [TS]

00:01:38   hello you're on the air I honestly can't [TS]

00:01:42   so I'm rolling it way back [TS]

00:01:44   that's the last year i have any [TS]

00:01:46   recollection of also joining me are [TS]

00:01:50   serenity Caldwell [TS]

00:01:52   hello hello Jason and Dan Morin I'm on [TS]

00:01:56   this podcast you are I am [TS]

00:01:58   hello I'm glad so so we have we have [TS]

00:02:01   four people here with me to have the [TS]

00:02:03   podcast episode that has no topic other [TS]

00:02:05   than 2011 [TS]

00:02:07   yes we're talking about time and we'll [TS]

00:02:09   also relive some exciting moments [TS]

00:02:11   because this is the incomparable clip [TS]

00:02:13   show exciting moments from the past but [TS]

00:02:15   before we do that I wanted to ask our [TS]

00:02:18   esteemed panel if they would like to [TS]

00:02:21   share a favorite thing from 2011 [TS]

00:02:25   something you discovered or enjoyed in [TS]

00:02:28   2011 just a single it out and give it a [TS]

00:02:30   little last people love before we move [TS]

00:02:32   into the hate and violence and horror [TS]

00:02:34   and torment that is 2012 [TS]

00:02:37   Scott what about you something you like [TS]

00:02:38   from 2011 I should wear I 2011 will go [TS]

00:02:42   down in history [TS]

00:02:44   well it's got history which is a very [TS]

00:02:46   and focus the register yes it's true [TS]

00:02:49   it's a has limited appeal but it's big [TS]

00:02:52   in Germany as the year but I discovered [TS]

00:02:55   in mcdonald who is the author of the [TS]

00:02:58   different shall be tracked was my [TS]

00:03:00   favorite novel of 2011 [TS]

00:03:02   I believe you mentioned that on a [TS]

00:03:03   previous podcast i did but i thought i'd [TS]

00:03:06   mention it again since i have this [TS]

00:03:07   opportunity [TS]

00:03:08   no no Scott you're on a clip show [TS]

00:03:12   I believe you mentioned it on a previous [TS]

00:03:13   podcast I i remember incident like it [TS]

00:03:16   with you [TS]

00:03:18   his settings are non-western which makes [TS]

00:03:23   it very interesting to me because it's [TS]

00:03:26   an alien culture and yet it's you know [TS]

00:03:28   still humans so in the Dervish houses [TS]

00:03:31   case it we get it set and in Turkey [TS]

00:03:33   yep in the near future and like what 20 [TS]

00:03:37   40 20 30 something like that yeah it's [TS]

00:03:39   great because i have no idea i don't [TS]

00:03:40   know the cultural enough to know what is [TS]

00:03:42   actually current behavior I mean know [TS]

00:03:44   the technology of course but I don't [TS]

00:03:47   know what's current behavior and what's [TS]

00:03:48   supposed it feels it feels very genuine [TS]

00:03:51   so even if it's wrong and feels right [TS]

00:03:53   but I'm but make it into the [TS]

00:03:54   displacement and a travel log kind of [TS]

00:03:56   feel to it was like this is cool i'm [TS]

00:03:58   learning things that may or may not be [TS]

00:03:59   true but I'm i feel like i'm learning [TS]

00:04:01   things about Turkey and about attitude [TS]

00:04:04   of the Turks toured europe and then [TS]

00:04:06   there's the whole sci-fi element on top [TS]

00:04:07   of him and the the story of the the [TS]

00:04:09   mellah fide man I don't know that which [TS]

00:04:12   is which is like again i don't know if [TS]

00:04:14   it's true or not but it's the the heats [TS]

00:04:15   honey until he dies and then they put [TS]

00:04:20   him in a stone casket full of honey and [TS]

00:04:22   they stored away in the ground and he [TS]

00:04:24   turns it's like his body turns into [TS]

00:04:26   honey and then it's supposed to like [TS]

00:04:28   have magical healing properties of [TS]

00:04:30   course i love that [TS]

00:04:31   word i was just like Mel ified you read [TS]

00:04:33   that you're just like well I want to [TS]

00:04:35   know what that is but I love the Jewish [TS]

00:04:38   now didn't you didn't you read the [TS]

00:04:40   Dervish house because you read another [TS]

00:04:42   book of his because you thought it was [TS]

00:04:44   required for the Dervish house which it [TS]

00:04:45   wasn't right i did i read the river of [TS]

00:04:48   God's which is a much longer book also [TS]

00:04:49   very good and for some reason i thought [TS]

00:04:51   the dermis house was a sequel to the [TS]

00:04:53   river of gods and it turns out they're [TS]

00:04:55   completely unrelated not even a little [TS]

00:04:58   have you read other a mcdonald this I i [TS]

00:05:00   did he actually he wrote a young adult [TS]

00:05:03   book which is came out last month maybe [TS]

00:05:06   december I'm was last month december i [TS]

00:05:10   don't know our planes runner which was [TS]

00:05:12   you know find it was so the thing I like [TS]

00:05:14   about in mcdonald is that he has in his [TS]

00:05:17   adult books I suppose several plots that [TS]

00:05:21   seemingly are unrelated and then they [TS]

00:05:23   come together and you go oh my god this [TS]

00:05:26   is a beautiful tapestry of wonderful [TS]

00:05:28   writing for his young adult thing he [TS]

00:05:31   decided I kids are stupid so let's have [TS]

00:05:34   one plots and lots of action and so it I [TS]

00:05:38   mean he's though it's it's the will [TS]

00:05:40   well written but it's not as complex or [TS]

00:05:42   as a doesn't have the depth of his other [TS]

00:05:45   works laughing seems like it just put [TS]

00:05:48   kids are stupid on the first page left [TS]

00:05:50   the rest blank true we summed up [TS]

00:05:53   existence at that point so so dan do you [TS]

00:05:56   have a favorite thing from 2011 [TS]

00:05:58   yeah a something that I didn't get to [TS]

00:06:01   manage mention a podcast unfortunately I [TS]

00:06:03   I want to kind of a clip show caster you [TS]

00:06:06   I i mentioned it on a future point this [TS]

00:06:09   is the new content but it's new to you [TS]

00:06:11   yes Shh you mentioned it in the future [TS]

00:06:13   clip I did I did [TS]

00:06:16   can we can we roll that clip yet what's [TS]

00:06:17   wrong now I was gonna say a video game I [TS]

00:06:22   played I played much video games here [TS]

00:06:24   the one that I that I found myself [TS]

00:06:25   returning to thinking about the most is [TS]

00:06:28   a game called deus ex human revolution [TS]

00:06:29   which is a a flawed game in many ways [TS]

00:06:33   but also a really fascinating game just [TS]

00:06:35   in terms of the world that it exposes [TS]

00:06:37   you to and this is a sort of a cyberpunk [TS]

00:06:39   near future game where a lot of people [TS]

00:06:41   have these human the cybernetic [TS]

00:06:43   augmentation [TS]

00:06:44   and there's a guy i try to figure out [TS]

00:06:47   what I like so much about this game and [TS]

00:06:48   i finally watched a video online from a [TS]

00:06:52   I can't remember where it was but it was [TS]

00:06:53   hosted a penny arcade's one of the [TS]

00:06:55   videos they sort of do for their [TS]

00:06:56   rotating TV series where some people are [TS]

00:06:58   talking about why they thought it was [TS]

00:06:59   like the best game of the year and they [TS]

00:07:01   kept seizing upon well as you know they [TS]

00:07:02   were frustrating parts in the game and [TS]

00:07:04   they had these weird boss battles that [TS]

00:07:06   didn't make they were totally throwbacks [TS]

00:07:07   but in and of itself it provides it was [TS]

00:07:10   such a case [TS]

00:07:11   syntactically perfect exploration of [TS]

00:07:15   this world and it's so the atmosphere [TS]

00:07:17   and the ambience of it were so so [TS]

00:07:20   pervasive and so consistent that it was [TS]

00:07:22   really immersive and i just i found [TS]

00:07:24   myself caught up in this entire world [TS]

00:07:26   just wanted to walk around and explore [TS]

00:07:28   things and not even always following the [TS]

00:07:30   plot that was given me but also I think [TS]

00:07:32   I really appreciated the fact that it [TS]

00:07:35   took this idea of sort of branching [TS]

00:07:37   choices and morality in a direction that [TS]

00:07:40   was was much more subtle a lot of games [TS]

00:07:42   that they're trying to implement this [TS]

00:07:44   now and I think this is something going [TS]

00:07:45   forward this can be really important [TS]

00:07:46   video games is idea like you want to be [TS]

00:07:48   a good guide you wanna be a bad guy but [TS]

00:07:49   they didn't make it into this like do [TS]

00:07:51   you want to save all these people or do [TS]

00:07:53   you want to kill all these people it [TS]

00:07:54   wasn't a heavy-handed choice there was a [TS]

00:07:56   there's a point very early in the game [TS]

00:07:58   where you have to get into a police [TS]

00:08:00   department and you're a former cop and [TS]

00:08:02   so you stopping you you talking to the [TS]

00:08:04   guy at the desk was the guy you served [TS]

00:08:05   with and depending on how you approach [TS]

00:08:07   it [TS]

00:08:08   there are a number of ways to accomplish [TS]

00:08:09   that objective and I chose to do it by [TS]

00:08:12   serving really sympathetic but this guy [TS]

00:08:14   who's been sort of fallen from grace and [TS]

00:08:16   you know had this terrible experience [TS]

00:08:18   and is oh my i played the character very [TS]

00:08:20   sympathetic and the guy was modified and [TS]

00:08:23   eventually let me and my friend Jason [TS]

00:08:25   Tasi who is also appeared on this [TS]

00:08:27   podcast took the entire opposite tack he [TS]

00:08:29   browbeat the guy into letting him in and [TS]

00:08:31   in a normal game you know me you might [TS]

00:08:33   think that's that's sort of interesting [TS]

00:08:34   you can approach those two ways but it [TS]

00:08:36   struck me later in the game as you're [TS]

00:08:37   exiting your apartment I hadn't it's a [TS]

00:08:39   second encounter with the guy works at [TS]

00:08:41   all you know i decided to leave police [TS]

00:08:42   department i was i just wasn't feeling [TS]

00:08:44   it didn't feel like I felt that you know [TS]

00:08:46   fit in there anymore and I said hello [TS]

00:08:48   let me get you a job i put in your name [TS]

00:08:49   or something so that'd be great [TS]

00:08:51   Jason least his apartment and the guy [TS]

00:08:53   tries to kill it is like you ruined my [TS]

00:08:54   life and tries to shoot when I was like [TS]

00:08:57   we and so neither of us knew about this [TS]

00:08:58   until we discuss was like wow that [TS]

00:09:00   that's fascinating these little like [TS]

00:09:01   things you set in motion and then later [TS]

00:09:03   on they have these huge you know little [TS]

00:09:05   implications or whatever and and it was [TS]

00:09:08   just it was a great game i really [TS]

00:09:09   enjoyed playing it and despite its flaws [TS]

00:09:11   i just found it was one of my favorite [TS]

00:09:13   things this year [TS]

00:09:14   alright that's great uh miss Caldwell do [TS]

00:09:18   you have a favorite thing my favorite [TS]

00:09:20   thing is is is broad and specific at the [TS]

00:09:23   same time which is just new things in [TS]

00:09:25   general I mean no this isn't yeah new [TS]

00:09:29   things are great this was taking a [TS]

00:09:31   letter here that last year's new things [TS]

00:09:32   we're good that 2010 things suck though [TS]

00:09:35   there yeah i was awarded more than old [TS]

00:09:37   things here now but I mean to elaborate [TS]

00:09:40   a little bit more on that in 2007 I did [TS]

00:09:43   this thing where i basically i looked at [TS]

00:09:45   what i was reading and I looked at what [TS]

00:09:47   i was watching and and basically said [TS]

00:09:48   you know alright i have i have a certain [TS]

00:09:51   amount of literature that I wanted my [TS]

00:09:52   belt but here it is here some books that [TS]

00:09:54   i really want to read and hear some [TS]

00:09:55   movies that i really want to watch and I [TS]

00:09:57   just lock myself up in a room for a [TS]

00:09:59   while in 2007 and did all that and 2011 [TS]

00:10:02   was a another similar year where I went [TS]

00:10:06   through a lot of content that I'd never [TS]

00:10:07   seen before I went through a bunch of TV [TS]

00:10:11   shows that I had been told repeatedly to [TS]

00:10:13   watch like Veronica Mars and party down [TS]

00:10:15   and buffy and supernatural thanks Dan [TS]

00:10:18   and you know so I television shows yeah [TS]

00:10:22   yeah she did sound that enthused when [TS]

00:10:24   she said things [TS]

00:10:25   uh-huh well it did take whatever and yes [TS]

00:10:28   seasons to slog through i should point [TS]

00:10:31   out but the lightning it's a delightful [TS]

00:10:34   romp it ruined your 2011 to romp through [TS]

00:10:38   the fields of of undead things I but I [TS]

00:10:42   mean aside from television shows i mean [TS]

00:10:43   i saw real genius for the first time I [TS]

00:10:45   bring yeah I blame the podcast for a lot [TS]

00:10:48   of it because having book club and [TS]

00:10:51   having you know our regular television [TS]

00:10:53   until talking about TV shows and talking [TS]

00:10:55   about movies and books like that it [TS]

00:10:58   gives me a reason beyond I need to be [TS]

00:11:01   more literate and I need to find more [TS]

00:11:03   things to inhale into my brain [TS]

00:11:05   I gives me an additional yes I know [TS]

00:11:08   and inhale and my brain maybe not the [TS]

00:11:11   best word choice but you know anyway [TS]

00:11:13   learning new things is fun and in 2011 I [TS]

00:11:16   did a lot of that who all right [TS]

00:11:19   was there any new thing in particular [TS]

00:11:21   that struck your fancy more than the [TS]

00:11:23   others or is it just all new things are [TS]

00:11:26   good [TS]

00:11:26   that's a good question i was really [TS]

00:11:29   happy to have seen short circuit for the [TS]

00:11:31   first time because I i adore robots and [TS]

00:11:35   robot movies and I hadn't seen this one [TS]

00:11:37   before and books wise I finally sat down [TS]

00:11:43   and read myself some neal stephenson and [TS]

00:11:45   I had been putting it off for ages and [TS]

00:11:48   I'm very very glad that I finally got [TS]

00:11:50   around to it sort of ice and fire maybe [TS]

00:11:52   not so much but else even I will count [TS]

00:11:54   as a win [TS]

00:11:55   alright that's great I Steve what about [TS]

00:11:59   you [TS]

00:12:00   well I 2 i'm going to tout the joys of [TS]

00:12:03   new things in the same way that that Ren [TS]

00:12:06   appreciates them which is to say I have [TS]

00:12:08   a very old thing that I would like to [TS]

00:12:10   talk about because as you know perhaps [TS]

00:12:14   you figured out from my discussion of [TS]

00:12:16   the heavens gate guys earlier how my [TS]

00:12:20   life is basically a tivo that's running [TS]

00:12:21   about 10 years back so this year I [TS]

00:12:26   finally got around to watching a film [TS]

00:12:28   that people have been recommending to me [TS]

00:12:30   for the better part of a decade [TS]

00:12:32   it's a japanese film that's that hails [TS]

00:12:35   from around 2000 and finally had a spare [TS]

00:12:39   moment i was sitting there with the DVD [TS]

00:12:40   and I said let's watch this [TS]

00:12:42   so I finally put on battle royale nice [TS]

00:12:45   which no doubt you know I'm sure that [TS]

00:12:48   most of you have probably absorbed [TS]

00:12:49   already i have not yet an email back [TS]

00:12:52   into my brain oh well you [TS]

00:12:53   yes it's a good it's a good inhale you [TS]

00:12:55   should really have you have you read the [TS]

00:12:56   hunger games because this is better [TS]

00:12:58   right that's another reason why I'm [TS]

00:12:59   bringing it up is because my wife read [TS]

00:13:01   The Hunger Games and she was describing [TS]

00:13:03   the plot to me and I was thinking that [TS]

00:13:04   sounds an awful lot like the plot battle [TS]

00:13:07   royale so it's it's topical even though [TS]

00:13:11   its ancient so yeah basically the film [TS]

00:13:14   is a is about a a dystopian future where [TS]

00:13:18   the children have rebelled and have no [TS]

00:13:20   respect for [TS]

00:13:21   our elders and it sounds like a stretch [TS]

00:13:23   but but it happens and apparently the [TS]

00:13:27   solution to this is the Japanese [TS]

00:13:29   government each year sequester's a kind [TS]

00:13:33   of its high school but whatever their [TS]

00:13:34   final their final year of schooling is [TS]

00:13:36   in Japan takes one class and they [TS]

00:13:39   sequester them on a deserted island and [TS]

00:13:41   they basically tell them you know one of [TS]

00:13:43   you can survive at the end of three days [TS]

00:13:45   and they give each of them a random [TS]

00:13:48   weapon i think one guy has like a pot [TS]

00:13:50   lid whereas it and somebody else [TS]

00:13:53   randomly ends up with a chainsaw and the [TS]

00:13:55   guy has an Uzi sony has a stun gun and [TS]

00:13:58   basically their dispatch to to dispatch [TS]

00:14:00   each other and if there's not one person [TS]

00:14:03   standing if there are multiple people [TS]

00:14:05   standing on the final day than everybody [TS]

00:14:07   dies it's never really explained how [TS]

00:14:10   this is supposed to cause the youth to [TS]

00:14:13   fall into line since apparently this [TS]

00:14:15   class was totally unaware of the [TS]

00:14:17   existence of this this annual event so [TS]

00:14:20   there are some plot holes at any rate [TS]

00:14:23   it's a it's a heck of a ride had is it [TS]

00:14:26   set in Japan or just the Japanese [TS]

00:14:28   government come to America and take the [TS]

00:14:30   students at the moment it is in fact [TS]

00:14:32   said in Japan that's really huh that [TS]

00:14:34   makes its yeah it's a heck of a ride [TS]

00:14:36   it's got liberal keepings of Japanese [TS]

00:14:40   over-the-top sort of cartoonish core [TS]

00:14:42   although not as bad as some films and [TS]

00:14:45   I've seen like itchy the killer and a [TS]

00:14:47   few others and it has some interesting [TS]

00:14:50   sort of poignant satire in it as well [TS]

00:14:52   although I'm not sure I understand more [TS]

00:14:55   than maybe a third of it there are a lot [TS]

00:14:57   of sort of recurring scenes from from [TS]

00:14:59   the past of the how the students [TS]

00:15:01   interacted with each other at school and [TS]

00:15:04   in some background as to why certain of [TS]

00:15:06   the students become just utterly [TS]

00:15:08   psychopathic and and seemed to take joy [TS]

00:15:11   and trying to kill their fellow students [TS]

00:15:12   and others can try to band together and [TS]

00:15:14   in sort of form a society or so it's [TS]

00:15:17   like lost except everybody kills each [TS]

00:15:19   other more or less yes they're all [TS]

00:15:20   they're all teenagers but it's a really [TS]

00:15:24   good film and and surprisingly moving in [TS]

00:15:27   places and [TS]

00:15:28   and I don't get all right and since I [TS]

00:15:31   didn't actually consume anything from [TS]

00:15:33   2011 in 2011 [TS]

00:15:35   that's my pick for 2011 that is fine but [TS]

00:15:38   it's a new thing perfectly acceptable [TS]

00:15:40   pick in New Year's thing Jason may ask [TS]

00:15:43   what was your was your favorite thing [TS]

00:15:44   for 2011 why thank you for asking damn i [TS]

00:15:47   don't want to i'd like to know I way [TS]

00:15:49   home we're out of time I'm sorry for [TS]

00:15:52   this next time I guess real genius [TS]

00:15:54   that's my favorite thing for all eras [TS]

00:15:57   ever but in if I had to narrow down to [TS]

00:16:01   2011 I I think the thing that I enjoy [TS]

00:16:07   the most [TS]

00:16:09   which surprises me when I was coming [TS]

00:16:11   down a list of stuff I liked is the HBO [TS]

00:16:16   TV series Game of Thrones which I [TS]

00:16:19   enjoyed a lot and having read those [TS]

00:16:21   books i was very impressed at how good [TS]

00:16:26   job they did in translating it into a TV [TS]

00:16:30   series that was both faithful to the [TS]

00:16:33   books and yet not so slavishly faithful [TS]

00:16:37   that they didn't work as individual TV [TS]

00:16:40   episodes and as a whatever was 10 [TS]

00:16:43   episode story arc the you know the [TS]

00:16:46   special effects were effective the [TS]

00:16:47   acting was good the writing was good it [TS]

00:16:50   could have been a train wreck and [TS]

00:16:52   instead i think it was one of the better [TS]

00:16:54   TV shows of the year and and so I really [TS]

00:17:00   enjoyed game of thrones in the in the [TS]

00:17:03   book category i can throw in somebody [TS]

00:17:06   asked me what my favorite book of the [TS]

00:17:07   year was I think it's probably among [TS]

00:17:09   others which I mentioned on the podcast [TS]

00:17:11   a while back by Joe Walton which I know [TS]

00:17:15   Scott read it and liked it too [TS]

00:17:16   I finally just I finally figured out a [TS]

00:17:18   way to describe what this book is it's a [TS]

00:17:19   fantasy novel about science fiction and [TS]

00:17:24   it's and and it's also about a Welsh [TS]

00:17:27   schoolgirl going to a an English private [TS]

00:17:30   school and it's it's great and strange [TS]

00:17:33   and not what you'd expect and i'm sure [TS]

00:17:36   there are lots of people out there who [TS]

00:17:37   hated because sort of on one level [TS]

00:17:39   nothing happens in it and yet it's great [TS]

00:17:41   and and then if I threw another pick for [TS]

00:17:44   a young adult that i read that i really [TS]

00:17:46   liked would be ship breaker by paulo [TS]

00:17:49   basico loopy who wrote the windup girl [TS]

00:17:51   which I liked in 2010 and this is an [TS]

00:17:55   older I think this is for also from 2010 [TS]

00:17:57   but uh as as the young adult novels go [TS]

00:18:00   it's actually kind of a shame that it [TS]

00:18:02   isn't more well-known it's a really [TS]

00:18:04   well-executed fun adventure story that [TS]

00:18:08   also has its own you know take on [TS]

00:18:11   environmental consequences and you could [TS]

00:18:14   have wrecked oil tankers figure in the [TS]

00:18:16   plot and it was really good too so but [TS]

00:18:19   if I had to pick one i think i think i'd [TS]

00:18:21   actually picked game of thrones much to [TS]

00:18:23   my own surprise now I this is the [TS]

00:18:25   portion of the program where I'd like to [TS]

00:18:26   share some listener feedback [TS]

00:18:30   oh I I didn't I didn't sign up for that [TS]

00:18:33   are you aware that there are listeners [TS]

00:18:34   to this podcast and we know my words [TS]

00:18:37   against tax basat yeah besides you go I [TS]

00:18:40   gotta go [TS]

00:18:42   I was that correct me if I'm wrong jason [TS]

00:18:45   but it is my understanding that there [TS]

00:18:47   were there were more listeners before a [TS]

00:18:50   podcast that we entitled Stephen Fry [TS]

00:18:52   does not appear [TS]

00:18:53   oh and then after that it that number [TS]

00:18:56   sort of dropped off sharply we had to [TS]

00:18:58   rebuild our listenership alligator we [TS]

00:19:00   have to make it stronger cousin so the [TS]

00:19:03   Stephen Pryor fri podcast is what [TS]

00:19:05   happened when we basically got like five [TS]

00:19:07   members of the incomparable in a room [TS]

00:19:08   together and close the door and it was a [TS]

00:19:11   very small room with no air and over the [TS]

00:19:14   course of an hour we became increasingly [TS]

00:19:15   loopy and and we discussed about 20 or [TS]

00:19:20   50 or 90 topics and about an hour and [TS]

00:19:24   none of it made any sense [TS]

00:19:26   that did not met never ever left down [TS]

00:19:30   wow you're like this is like the swerve [TS]

00:19:32   easiest podcast ever issue what we'd [TS]

00:19:34   only been drinking would have a much [TS]

00:19:35   more sense [TS]

00:19:36   ya know we've already men that are I [TS]

00:19:38   think something called all the time I've [TS]

00:19:40   recommended our listeners drink before [TS]

00:19:42   the same I think you should put a recipe [TS]

00:19:44   at the outset of this please pour for [TS]

00:19:46   example martini [TS]

00:19:48   this is the incomparable after dark that [TS]

00:19:51   was not Muslim you know locked in a room [TS]

00:19:54   Stephen Fry no longer live TV show [TS]

00:19:56   called a bit of fry and laurie at the [TS]

00:19:57   end of each other with you Lori to be [TS]

00:19:59   more he has done your house you won t be [TS]

00:20:02   one of America's finest actors and [TS]

00:20:03   please sing it's not really anybody been [TS]

00:20:06   imitating trumpet very convincing yes [TS]

00:20:07   and they always serve a drink what shall [TS]

00:20:10   we order for the drink can dissolve i'll [TS]

00:20:11   have the hat tricks like all you take [TS]

00:20:12   three pounds of dried ice shavings and [TS]

00:20:16   arsenic mixing together and Shake and [TS]

00:20:18   Shake swell mr. music plays and that's [TS]

00:20:21   what I cannot believe that you brought [TS]

00:20:22   it around to stephen fry again there [TS]

00:20:24   that is I Williams processing plant I am [TS]

00:20:28   amazed by then it's stephen fry did not [TS]

00:20:31   appear never did Elizabeth great find [TS]

00:20:34   when we could still breathe [TS]

00:20:35   yeah I member and not so much after we [TS]

00:20:38   were all about to die so you're more or [TS]

00:20:40   less inhaling each other in the [TS]

00:20:41   operations [TS]

00:20:42   yeah and you can hear it's all it's [TS]

00:20:43   there on the tape if you play it back [TS]

00:20:44   you can you was that the episode where [TS]

00:20:47   Lex Friedman was joking and jokingly [TS]

00:20:49   laughing at all of our misfortunes in [TS]

00:20:50   the background [TS]

00:20:51   yeah he was our studio audience for that [TS]

00:20:53   poor bastard he was using up the oxygen [TS]

00:20:55   we should have kicked him out so well I [TS]

00:20:58   don't have any listener feedback about [TS]

00:20:59   the stephen fry episode because really [TS]

00:21:01   nobody listened to it because it was [TS]

00:21:03   unlistenable but i do have some [TS]

00:21:05   interesting i asked on the incomparable [TS]

00:21:08   twitter account at the incomparable [TS]

00:21:10   follow that by the way if you aren't [TS]

00:21:13   already it's full of fans doing it right [TS]

00:21:14   now [TS]

00:21:15   what is that no at the incomparable that [TS]

00:21:19   I asked i asked the listeners on twitter [TS]

00:21:23   if they have any favorite uncomfortable [TS]

00:21:27   moments from 2011 and here are some of [TS]

00:21:30   the responses i got listener [TS]

00:21:32   chris said John siracusa covertly [TS]

00:21:36   reconstructing the Firefly Firefly cast [TS]

00:21:38   from discarded part [TS]

00:21:40   mr. Adam similarly said easy [TS]

00:21:45   Syracuse's sneaky lightning but direct [TS]

00:21:47   pic with accompanying see lawyer and [TS]

00:21:50   over Han Solo status as a TV character [TS]

00:21:52   holiday hon or my fifth round pick [TS]

00:21:58   John Syracuse's selects on solo from the [TS]

00:22:01   star wars holiday special [TS]

00:22:02   oh I almost went there [TS]

00:22:06   judges charges and i quote from the [TS]

00:22:10   rules that a good time that with any TV [TS]

00:22:13   show ever [TS]

00:22:14   true it counts so does that mean life [TS]

00:22:18   day will feature prominently in your [TS]

00:22:19   thinking the character of Han Solo he [TS]

00:22:23   has an established character from the [TS]

00:22:24   movies yes but he appeared on television [TS]

00:22:26   in that which is any TV show ever in the [TS]

00:22:29   history of TV the exact words from the [TS]

00:22:32   email i'll allow it i'll allow it but it [TS]

00:22:35   but there's there's got to be a [TS]

00:22:37   holiday-themed he always has to remark [TS]

00:22:40   about wiki holiday is I like that rule [TS]

00:22:45   is that where you're at santa hat for [TS]

00:22:47   the whole thing it does not in Star Wars [TS]

00:22:49   and if he shoots first he uses a candy [TS]

00:22:52   cane it's 500 years in the future [TS]

00:22:55   mankind has slipped the surly bonds of [TS]

00:22:57   Earth is spread across the galaxy thanks [TS]

00:22:59   to a repulsion breakthrough that [TS]

00:23:00   harnesses the powerful electrostatic [TS]

00:23:02   discharges founded the atmospheres of [TS]

00:23:03   gas giant planets yes that'll make sense [TS]

00:23:05   a planetary government controls most of [TS]

00:23:08   the civilized plants but on the more [TS]

00:23:10   outer rim planets let's say government [TS]

00:23:12   authorities less potent on solo is the [TS]

00:23:14   captain of a starship and a smuggler [TS]

00:23:16   surprise river song is the [TS]

00:23:18   second-in-command a tough competently he [TS]

00:23:19   knows their way around a gun an old war [TS]

00:23:21   buddy of Hans its pilot and trusted [TS]

00:23:24   friend Hank Stallworth a ruffled [TS]

00:23:26   good-natured fellow will also happens to [TS]

00:23:27   be riversong husband jay-z Steiners [TS]

00:23:29   ships mechanic she's young and innocent [TS]

00:23:31   but with a hydrospanner James Ford is a [TS]

00:23:34   hired gun he's great in a fight but the [TS]

00:23:36   others on the crew not are not sure that [TS]

00:23:37   he can be trusted your own higher Harris [TS]

00:23:39   is a high-class corazon tagging along [TS]

00:23:41   and hardship for transport and [TS]

00:23:43   protections her presence lends an air of [TS]

00:23:45   legitimacy to another wise ragtag crew [TS]

00:23:47   but there's definitely some sexual [TS]

00:23:48   tension between jones scruffy-looking on [TS]

00:23:50   into the life of this crew falls Jack [TS]

00:23:52   Shephard a doctor [TS]

00:23:53   one of the civilized planet mr. myko [TS]

00:23:55   from the government but would explain [TS]

00:23:58   why Tywin Lannister's the government [TS]

00:24:01   officer in charge of apprehending Jaco [TS]

00:24:03   and he has no trouble going through some [TS]

00:24:04   anti-government rebels come to get what [TS]

00:24:06   he wants [TS]

00:24:06   finally at the far reaches of the known [TS]

00:24:08   plants like the nomadic tribes known as [TS]

00:24:09   the Horde by Khal Drogo Oh even [TS]

00:24:12   government ships hear them together on [TS]

00:24:14   his crew flip from planet to planet in [TS]

00:24:16   the tiny spaceship making a dishonest [TS]

00:24:17   living as smugglers what they avoid any [TS]

00:24:19   Imperial entanglements and steer clear [TS]

00:24:20   of the hoard all still trying to be the [TS]

00:24:22   good guys in the movie of their lives [TS]

00:24:24   there on ship crushes the trails heist [TS]

00:24:26   of the week episodes and remote planets [TS]

00:24:28   and overall story are concerning the [TS]

00:24:29   mysterious backstory of jackin echo the [TS]

00:24:32   show's title is the name of hardship the [TS]

00:24:34   lightning bug well and we grow now [TS]

00:24:40   really it's gonna make a million dollars [TS]

00:24:42   well I never heard of anything like this [TS]

00:24:43   before I have a feeling that this show [TS]

00:24:45   will be canceled after 13 episodes only [TS]

00:24:48   10 of which will air not not in the [TS]

00:24:50   correct i'm not even in correct order [TS]

00:24:52   wow so I have nothing to say to that I [TS]

00:24:55   executed the plan not very creative but [TS]

00:24:57   it's kind of like like a pet cemetery [TS]

00:24:59   when the dad really wants a little boy [TS]

00:25:02   to come back to life so he uses dark [TS]

00:25:04   magic antenna and reanimates the corpse [TS]

00:25:08   that's what I've done here I'm still [TS]

00:25:11   upset about that [TS]

00:25:13   that's ok that's ok move on there was no [TS]

00:25:15   life day mentioned at all in the [TS]

00:25:17   lightning bug pitch as i recall it's [TS]

00:25:20   shameful wrong [TS]

00:25:22   so listen Laurie liked the cancelled TV [TS]

00:25:28   show draft but she says the TV character [TS]

00:25:31   draft made her laugh from beginning to [TS]

00:25:32   end so i guess my favorite moment steve [TS]

00:25:35   was the drafting of Skeletor yes mr. [TS]

00:25:39   Janus said I laughed so much of the [TS]

00:25:41   character draft that my sister thought i [TS]

00:25:42   was nuts [TS]

00:25:43   well there's a good chance you're [TS]

00:25:46   welcome mr. Chad road in simply saying [TS]

00:25:49   Skeletor i must needs to be sick [TS]

00:25:55   well i'm gonna go with one that's a [TS]

00:25:57   that's close to my heart for various [TS]

00:25:59   reasons and I know somebody's just [TS]

00:26:01   raring to pick him so I better grab him [TS]

00:26:03   now i'm going to pick a pic Skeletor [TS]

00:26:05   from the last of the universe seems yeah [TS]

00:26:09   i do not think you should be on the show [TS]

00:26:13   with Tom servo well the beauty of [TS]

00:26:14   Skeletor is that he can die every [TS]

00:26:16   weekend yet miraculously reappear from [TS]

00:26:18   under the pile of rocks that he was [TS]

00:26:20   buried under in subsequent hooks so if [TS]

00:26:23   Anthony tries to send Skeletor the [TS]

00:26:25   cornfield what happens is back to the [TS]

00:26:27   next week [TS]

00:26:28   that's the intention of the show's [TS]

00:26:30   spoilers no spoilers alright okay so [TS]

00:26:32   you're you're pretty girly it's crucial [TS]

00:26:34   to my plot which which I look forward to [TS]

00:26:37   making up on the candle [TS]

00:26:40   yeah that's appropriate it its Skeletor [TS]

00:26:47   is the alpha and the omega of our [TS]

00:26:49   podcast he won that draft by killing [TS]

00:26:52   everyone else so scary [TS]

00:26:56   in addition to the TV drafts wear it in [TS]

00:27:01   which mr. Lutz had the best pic and one [TS]

00:27:04   the pitch session after all of that you [TS]

00:27:07   were also steve the master of trash talk [TS]

00:27:10   i believe i believe telling me to eat it [TS]

00:27:13   in the classic dual image which actually [TS]

00:27:20   I think we may have been John Syracuse's [TS]

00:27:22   favorite moment of people [TS]

00:27:23   well you know every village needs its [TS]

00:27:26   idiot [TS]

00:27:27   so I've been happy to provide that role [TS]

00:27:30   you got me Steve nice the bed liners in [TS]

00:27:34   the cornfield with Anthony now eat it [TS]

00:27:36   smells all right I'm gonna trash-talk [TS]

00:27:38   alright it's getting good [TS]

00:27:39   normally I would reserve that for the [TS]

00:27:40   chat window well played it again Snell [TS]

00:27:43   oh man so you will each I mean it when I [TS]

00:27:47   say it's now [TS]

00:27:49   yes no that's that's Steve's line i [TS]

00:27:52   recommend it it's it's highly [TS]

00:27:54   questionable say it [TS]

00:27:55   that's right mr. mark rhodium that it's [TS]

00:27:59   a tie between the TV draft and pitch [TS]

00:28:01   please do that again he says huh [TS]

00:28:04   okay i think people will have a license [TS]

00:28:06   revoked if we if we do that again thank [TS]

00:28:08   you i will be draft and the i think i [TS]

00:28:11   think we should do a favorite movie drop [TS]

00:28:12   that would be good and the empire [TS]

00:28:14   strikes back to partner he also liked [TS]

00:28:16   listen risk mr. chris l wrote in and [TS]

00:28:19   said both the two-part draft pick and [TS]

00:28:22   pitch and the two-part star wars were [TS]

00:28:24   golden [TS]

00:28:24   so people like the star wars episodes [TS]

00:28:28   Adam wrote in and said he thought the [TS]

00:28:30   Empire Strikes Back episode was [TS]

00:28:31   incomparable haha there that doesn't [TS]

00:28:34   mean good Jason let's just be clear [TS]

00:28:36   yes it's well it's not necessarily [TS]

00:28:38   conveying a value judgment of any kind [TS]

00:28:40   listener Brandon wrote in and said [TS]

00:28:42   empire strikes back all the way listener [TS]

00:28:45   David wrote in and said to come to mind [TS]

00:28:48   episode 59 1 episode is 59 I don't [TS]

00:28:52   actually read the tip and the tail end [TS]

00:28:54   of the TV draft and the Empire Strikes [TS]

00:28:56   Back series especially the after dark [TS]

00:28:59   the where we were we talked about the [TS]

00:29:01   empire strikes back for an extra 20 [TS]

00:29:02   minutes after having board everybody to [TS]

00:29:04   death already and this says about about [TS]

00:29:09   things notice how they're not saying the [TS]

00:29:10   star wars two-parter they're saying the [TS]

00:29:12   Empire to know someone said the star [TS]

00:29:14   wars 2 part that I think I think they [TS]

00:29:15   mean the Empire to partner Dan let's [TS]

00:29:17   just face it the empire strikes back [TS]

00:29:19   it's just a vote in the sweet spot me a [TS]

00:29:21   favor just if I might recall where you [TS]

00:29:23   were you on the Star Wars two-parter I [TS]

00:29:25   was not [TS]

00:29:26   oh yeah so you know what is a no one [TS]

00:29:28   could possibly say that is what youre so [TS]

00:29:30   the reason the star wars episode i think [TS]

00:29:31   it's so touching is because you know we [TS]

00:29:34   we learned so many things in the star [TS]

00:29:37   wars episode we learned that start [TS]

00:29:39   seeing Star Wars can change your life [TS]

00:29:40   and we also learned about the coffee [TS]

00:29:43   drinking habit [TS]

00:29:44   darth vader that is true my my life [TS]

00:29:49   exists in into separate dimensions one [TS]

00:29:51   pre star wars and one post Star Wars it [TS]

00:29:54   was the transformative experience I I [TS]

00:29:57   was nine years old when Star Wars was [TS]

00:29:59   released and I saw at nine times during [TS]

00:30:03   its initial theatrical run i was just [TS]

00:30:05   totally blown away by everything in it [TS]

00:30:08   was it was perfect in every way and i [TS]

00:30:09   still believe that and I will argue it [TS]

00:30:11   with anybody who wants to that it is it [TS]

00:30:14   remains perfect despite its flaws [TS]

00:30:16   it is the Socratic ideal of what a [TS]

00:30:19   science-fiction movie should be so what [TS]

00:30:21   you're saying is even its flaws are part [TS]

00:30:23   of its reaction that exactly it would it [TS]

00:30:26   it is perfect because of its flaws [TS]

00:30:28   that's for old people like me and Greg [TS]

00:30:30   that's um that's such a strange idea the [TS]

00:30:33   idea that star wars was always there [TS]

00:30:35   I have to think that it would be a [TS]

00:30:37   little disappointing having it always [TS]

00:30:39   around because you didn't get to [TS]

00:30:40   discover it didn't like up here you know [TS]

00:30:44   dawn i might argue that that as as as [TS]

00:30:48   your idea Greg that star wars a Socratic [TS]

00:30:51   ideal in some ways up hasn't it always [TS]

00:30:53   been there [TS]

00:30:53   we just didn't know it's been inside of [TS]

00:30:55   us it was inside the block of marble it [TS]

00:30:58   was a long time ago in a galaxy far far [TS]

00:31:00   away you don't use the word faith there [TS]

00:31:02   to find his lack of faith disturbing [TS]

00:31:04   I want you need to have faith i'm [TS]

00:31:05   choking you dude you don't have to [TS]

00:31:07   believe believe that I believe it may go [TS]

00:31:12   Greg can you explain [TS]

00:31:14   can you explain the darth vader coffee [TS]

00:31:15   thing by the way for those who don't [TS]

00:31:16   know because this is one of my favorite [TS]

00:31:18   things about the original star wars in [TS]

00:31:20   the comic version there's the conference [TS]

00:31:22   room scene where they're discussing how [TS]

00:31:24   the plans got away and who's to blame [TS]

00:31:26   and your ancient religion blah blah blah [TS]

00:31:29   and it just as as the people are talking [TS]

00:31:32   around the table Vader floats over a [TS]

00:31:35   Styrofoam cup of coffee and a little yes [TS]

00:31:41   how does he drink it [TS]

00:31:42   yes I don't know using the force and [TS]

00:31:46   then United States he's holding it for [TS]

00:31:48   the rest of the scene including on shoka [TS]

00:31:49   together [TS]

00:31:50   need to do all the only thing that would [TS]

00:31:52   have been awesome about that is it well [TS]

00:31:54   to give you guys something of a copy [TS]

00:31:55   then throws it in his face installed [TS]

00:31:57   that would be hilarious you should have [TS]

00:32:00   been quietly sipping through his helmet [TS]

00:32:01   while choking the guy that's the dark [TS]

00:32:03   side band confidence for chokers Vader [TS]

00:32:07   doesn't put the cream in his coffee by [TS]

00:32:09   the way he likes it black takes that [TS]

00:32:10   black just like you like I like my [TS]

00:32:12   coffee like my like my evil select [TS]

00:32:14   myself Lords I really should have been [TS]

00:32:19   on the real genius episode back job man [TS]

00:32:21   yeah I know I I made it I made a [TS]

00:32:23   horrible mistake with that episode it [TS]

00:32:27   was I booked the wrong guests I I needed [TS]

00:32:29   more people on my side [TS]

00:32:30   it happens i went for diversity instead [TS]

00:32:33   of a monoculture that would agree with [TS]

00:32:34   me like that lesson [TS]

00:32:37   yeah it's very strange to me that so [TS]

00:32:40   there's so much love for the TV draft [TS]

00:32:41   episodes when we were all convinced that [TS]

00:32:43   that was going to be the second coming [TS]

00:32:44   of the stephen fry said I after we [TS]

00:32:47   posted the TV draft episode I really [TS]

00:32:49   they were evenings when I would look out [TS]

00:32:51   my window just to make sure that the [TS]

00:32:53   torches and pitchforks poured out there [TS]

00:32:54   you know if I had it all to do over [TS]

00:32:57   again I think I would do it differently [TS]

00:33:00   are those was that serious wow maybe a [TS]

00:33:06   little little little muslim are you [TS]

00:33:08   expecting us to create a flashback were [TS]

00:33:10   either a song that's about to start that [TS]

00:33:12   goes with that [TS]

00:33:13   well I drafted a bunch of vampire [TS]

00:33:16   detective and I have no I have no more [TS]

00:33:21   than that sign but even greater problems [TS]

00:33:24   don't seem dry so so more comments about [TS]

00:33:27   Star Wars listener Ryan said Star Wars [TS]

00:33:29   of course now John siracusa must turn [TS]

00:33:32   his lecture like I on episodes one [TS]

00:33:34   through three and he specifies the [TS]

00:33:37   analytical Hannibal Lecter not the [TS]

00:33:39   murderer apartment kind of like I i did [TS]

00:33:42   you get to choose which part of him and [TS]

00:33:44   passage deal i can guess which part [TS]

00:33:47   John would choose to inflict on the [TS]

00:33:48   prequels too and it's not the analytical [TS]

00:33:50   part it's the murder part i see but [TS]

00:33:53   here's the thing if you would just be [TS]

00:33:54   two hours of Dijon saying I don't know [TS]

00:33:57   what movie you're talking about [TS]

00:33:58   it's true that movie existed really is [TS]

00:34:01   his power of self-delusion is great [TS]

00:34:04   you know considering the impact that [TS]

00:34:06   ripples had on Star Wars fans i would [TS]

00:34:08   say that those two were life-changing [TS]

00:34:10   films troops in a different in a [TS]

00:34:13   different sort of way in a vastly [TS]

00:34:15   different sort of way if I could do it [TS]

00:34:17   all over again I think I would do it [TS]

00:34:19   differently [TS]

00:34:20   mr. Matt throat and said that a episode [TS]

00:34:24   67 68 where the best of the year where [TS]

00:34:26   siracusa got down on Empire Strikes Back [TS]

00:34:28   my favorite moment from this episode yes [TS]

00:34:31   I am bleeding into a clip here is when [TS]

00:34:34   John Syracuse's summed up Han Solo's [TS]

00:34:37   character in just a few seconds the [TS]

00:34:41   character is established to immediately [TS]

00:34:43   fired his weapon upon seeing the enemy [TS]

00:34:45   the only reason he didn't immediately [TS]

00:34:46   shoot gritos gonna get the jump on them [TS]

00:34:48   and had the gun grunting him first and [TS]

00:34:50   he had to talk while he got his general [TS]

00:34:51   Han shoots first for crying out loud he [TS]

00:34:53   doesn't he doesn't even like Chewie [TS]

00:34:55   growls at least on just immediately [TS]

00:34:58   fires and draws his fast again doesn't [TS]

00:34:59   fire once you just aim shoot kill kill [TS]

00:35:01   kill [TS]

00:35:02   that's hot that's hot solo in that scene [TS]

00:35:04   he is a mayor and of action on solo and [TS]

00:35:06   shoots first people John kill cancerous [TS]

00:35:13   he's succinct yeah yeah but general [TS]

00:35:16   member Hannibal Lecter saying something [TS]

00:35:18   very similar in yeah it's somewhat more [TS]

00:35:21   eloquent my generally in the Empire [TS]

00:35:25   podcast there were some serious nerdery [TS]

00:35:27   going on between Dan and John no I find [TS]

00:35:30   that uh yeah I was nerded out I thought [TS]

00:35:33   I knew a lot but it's a bit of romance [TS]

00:35:36   I just have a curiosity everything from [TS]

00:35:39   your guy's perspective how many days do [TS]

00:35:41   you think he's there [TS]

00:35:42   not that long maybe like oh we're trying [TS]

00:35:44   to calculate based on like how long they [TS]

00:35:46   spent running away from the the fuckin [TS]

00:35:49   Spencer anyway [TS]

00:35:49   yeah you don't know how long it took [TS]

00:35:51   them to fly without warp speed 22 miles [TS]

00:35:54   to Cloud City exactly i mean it seems [TS]

00:35:56   like not more than a few days though [TS]

00:35:58   right they make it seem like it's not [TS]

00:36:00   long but I better be like a week yeah [TS]

00:36:02   they spend a week running away from the [TS]

00:36:03   empire but they were they spend a week [TS]

00:36:05   fly they couldn't they couldn't go to [TS]

00:36:06   light speed and takes awhile to get [TS]

00:36:08   around you also don't know how long they [TS]

00:36:10   were sitting on the back of the Star [TS]

00:36:12   Destroyer until they get dumped off for [TS]

00:36:13   track because you see them there and [TS]

00:36:15   it's all dark and you're like you know [TS]

00:36:17   what's our next move that could hang out [TS]

00:36:18   there for a while I i don't know i [TS]

00:36:20   always seems to me like three or four [TS]

00:36:22   days and like man that's a that's a very [TS]

00:36:23   short time to cram in your Jedi training [TS]

00:36:25   it does seem faster in the movie like [TS]

00:36:27   this look what exactly how much Jedi [TS]

00:36:29   training to look actually get but I [TS]

00:36:30   think even if you think it's only been a [TS]

00:36:32   few days [TS]

00:36:32   it shows he looks like someone who's had [TS]

00:36:34   like a three day course on you know [TS]

00:36:36   professional driving and now he's not [TS]

00:36:38   camp Jedi boot camp right and and has [TS]

00:36:40   not absorbed it's like if you took a [TS]

00:36:42   three-day professional driving course [TS]

00:36:43   such as our weekend really well yeah [TS]

00:36:45   he's a Jedi weekend warrior yah-yah-yah [TS]

00:36:50   dress venue and I had to basically stand [TS]

00:36:52   on the sidelines while while damage on [TS]

00:36:54   just listed all the things they loved [TS]

00:36:56   about the empire strikes back [TS]

00:36:57   yeah we we get our mouths open and then [TS]

00:37:00   John when ordered and will put it more [TS]

00:37:01   succinctly and then and then we go back [TS]

00:37:03   to our caves and be like yeah i really [TS]

00:37:05   love that movie to be there we really [TS]

00:37:08   love that movie [TS]

00:37:09   like a lot yeah I give it was legal in [TS]

00:37:11   my state to marry that movie [TS]

00:37:12   yeah i think it is it matches [TS]

00:37:15   Massachusetts were very liberal true [TS]

00:37:17   then you and John would have to fight [TS]

00:37:19   over who married that movie [TS]

00:37:21   oh I'm sure it's a slippery slope it's [TS]

00:37:22   great just maybe both married in three [TS]

00:37:25   two people in the movie are all married [TS]

00:37:26   together and it's it is madness dr. now [TS]

00:37:29   it's a sitcom sitcom there's yeah [TS]

00:37:32   there's the start of values conquers all [TS]

00:37:36   so mr. Clinton wrote in and said he [TS]

00:37:41   liked the star wars podcast but he also [TS]

00:37:43   specifically like to single out the [TS]

00:37:45   doctor who episodes and our review of [TS]

00:37:48   feed you see some people love it when we [TS]

00:37:53   are critical Scott well that's good [TS]

00:37:55   because that book is crap [TS]

00:37:58   let's relive just how bad that book is [TS]

00:38:02   feed by mira Grant who read fee i did [TS]

00:38:05   mean for child and neither of us like to [TS]

00:38:07   feed is is a novel about bloggers yes [TS]

00:38:12   who are essentially news reporters of [TS]

00:38:16   the future and this is set in the near [TS]

00:38:18   future as well where technology is a [TS]

00:38:20   little more advanced also there's been a [TS]

00:38:22   zombie apocalypse and everybody who dies [TS]

00:38:24   becomes a zombie and if you get bitten [TS]

00:38:27   if by a zombie you die and then your [TS]

00:38:31   zombie and an interesting i think that [TS]

00:38:33   her world building was interesting so [TS]

00:38:34   you can also since the the whatever the [TS]

00:38:38   the zombie particle or whatever you [TS]

00:38:40   wanna call it is been around it has not [TS]

00:38:42   a virus yet the virus that's probably [TS]

00:38:44   better is it so it's in everyone and it [TS]

00:38:47   can just spontaneously activate so you [TS]

00:38:50   don't have to be bitten by a zombie you [TS]

00:38:52   could just spontaneously turn into a [TS]

00:38:54   zombie and animals also turned into [TS]

00:38:57   zombies over 40 pounds or something so [TS]

00:39:00   right there's like there's a law that [TS]

00:39:01   you can't have a pet that's over 40 [TS]

00:39:03   pounds because it could spontaneously [TS]

00:39:04   turn into like a zombie my Marmaduke but [TS]

00:39:08   think how Bad's on be like mosquitoes [TS]

00:39:10   would be slung be one rat that's why you [TS]

00:39:12   can't do that yet so but zombie horses [TS]

00:39:14   yes this was really not very good know [TS]

00:39:17   it was you mean it would have had [TS]

00:39:19   bringing an endorsement [TS]

00:39:21   I cannot believe I actually i look at [TS]

00:39:24   this and think how did this get [TS]

00:39:26   nominated for hugo award [TS]

00:39:27   I don't understand a world where this [TS]

00:39:30   book and the Dervish house can be [TS]

00:39:32   considered in the same group [TS]

00:39:35   it's just the gap is so why don't [TS]

00:39:37   understand it [TS]

00:39:38   so Dan and Glenn what what can I tell [TS]

00:39:40   you you gotta reach yeah I'm gonna take [TS]

00:39:42   an article [TS]

00:39:43   oh I'm gonna go right out i'm so glad [TS]

00:39:45   that I didn't just like go on mute for [TS]

00:39:46   this then come back and guys like a [TS]

00:39:48   totally repeat happy [TS]

00:39:50   sucker and the best part is it's the [TS]

00:39:53   first book in a trilogy so [TS]

00:39:55   oh of course after i love it i love [TS]

00:39:58   however scott i had hate to break it to [TS]

00:40:00   you [TS]

00:40:01   some people also hate it when we are [TS]

00:40:03   critical listener ash road in and said [TS]

00:40:06   the most infuriating episode was when [TS]

00:40:08   you ravage the best book of the year [TS]

00:40:10   ready player one I have a special i have [TS]

00:40:14   a message [TS]

00:40:16   I i assume listener ashes illiterate [TS]

00:40:18   because then that book is also crap that [TS]

00:40:25   as much crap as feed i will give him at [TS]

00:40:26   still crap i read the that doesn't I'm [TS]

00:40:30   sample and I felt illiterate after [TS]

00:40:31   finishing just an efficient i think [TS]

00:40:34   that's an episode like the real genius [TS]

00:40:35   episode i think that's an episode with a [TS]

00:40:37   host Letta let the guests get away from [TS]

00:40:40   get wet get away from him now I think [TS]

00:40:43   that hosted an excellent job I i would [TS]

00:40:45   say he was one of the best host of the [TS]

00:40:47   year everything about this book is is [TS]

00:40:50   basically a trope right like the plot [TS]

00:40:53   the characters and the amaj and I guess [TS]

00:40:56   you know it seems like it's one of those [TS]

00:40:59   situations that should be a perfect [TS]

00:41:02   storm of things that people like and yet [TS]

00:41:04   it doesn't quite seem to succeed just [TS]

00:41:07   immune it doesn't have that one thing [TS]

00:41:08   that people like which is a story is a [TS]

00:41:11   story that keeps them guessing and I [TS]

00:41:13   mean like with fine pandered to whatever [TS]

00:41:15   but you want to you want to be kept like [TS]

00:41:18   I'm i was going to the story but it was [TS]

00:41:20   just you just saw where was going in [TS]

00:41:22   there isn't much surprised that's why [TS]

00:41:24   the pacman steam so it out so much [TS]

00:41:26   because there was so little in this [TS]

00:41:27   thing that you knew I'd like in a movie [TS]

00:41:29   that you know anything they show you [TS]

00:41:31   it's like a wall that's going to be [TS]

00:41:32   significant is probably gonna save them [TS]

00:41:33   in the end that because no one else is [TS]

00:41:35   doing it like there wasn't enough stuff [TS]

00:41:37   for it because it like a good mystery [TS]

00:41:38   even a short little mystery novel that [TS]

00:41:40   mean enough stuff going on that you can [TS]

00:41:42   immediately pick out haha when that guy [TS]

00:41:44   came into the room put that thing down [TS]

00:41:45   that was important because so much other [TS]

00:41:46   stuff happens in the story and you [TS]

00:41:48   wrapped up in the people in this thing [TS]

00:41:49   it was just everything was just poking [TS]

00:41:51   up out of the the ground really tall [TS]

00:41:53   appears this tower which is this plot [TS]

00:41:55   point this tower which is this plot [TS]

00:41:56   point and it wasn't any meat on the [TS]

00:41:58   bones you know that it's a new overclock [TS]

00:42:00   processor that's so fast its cycle time [TS]

00:42:03   board on [TS]

00:42:04   precognition first of all overclocking [TS]

00:42:05   that was like so two decades ago and [TS]

00:42:07   cycle time board its recognition make no [TS]

00:42:10   sense but like I asked my mother to [TS]

00:42:12   write a sentence about how fast the cpu [TS]

00:42:13   I'm glad we didn't get any comments from [TS]

00:42:17   people who said I'll i really like the [TS]

00:42:19   episodes where people who are Jason [TS]

00:42:21   hosted at least in getting episodes [TS]

00:42:23   where they're like I really hated the [TS]

00:42:25   people who subbed in for Jason cuz that [TS]

00:42:27   make me said I liked the episode where [TS]

00:42:29   Glenn breathe a lot thank you enough [TS]

00:42:32   so let them roll the clip you know so [TS]

00:42:35   critical i mean we are we are sometimes [TS]

00:42:36   critical and some people hate that and [TS]

00:42:40   some people like it we don't try to tear [TS]

00:42:42   everything down every week i mean i [TS]

00:42:44   think that reaction of the star wars [TS]

00:42:45   episode shows that people also enjoy it [TS]

00:42:48   when we talk about things we love and so [TS]

00:42:51   it's it's hard to strike a balance I had [TS]

00:42:53   somebody on Twitter the other day said [TS]

00:42:54   that we were all a bunch of a bunch of [TS]

00:42:58   pedis and infrared yeah that's that's [TS]

00:43:01   John job but the rest of us are are are [TS]

00:43:04   are much more kind of you know we love [TS]

00:43:06   things we hate things and that's okay i [TS]

00:43:07   think criticism is good is good to share [TS]

00:43:10   and sometimes we hate things and talk [TS]

00:43:12   about why we hate them but that's not [TS]

00:43:14   all we also love things we hate the dark [TS]

00:43:16   night though nobody likes the dark [TS]

00:43:20   ok we destroyed that that's ahead movie [TS]

00:43:22   held in high regard high regard but what [TS]

00:43:25   we did we toured that into little tiny [TS]

00:43:26   pieces i think i think i missed out on [TS]

00:43:28   that 1i might have defended who ya [TS]

00:43:31   always something that was the superhero [TS]

00:43:33   movie episode where you I was i believe [TS]

00:43:35   i was absent a little i would i would [TS]

00:43:38   argue that were united air [TS]

00:43:39   let's check the tape oh let's go to the [TS]

00:43:42   videotape [TS]

00:43:44   overrated is the dark knight not because [TS]

00:43:47   it's such a terrible movie because it [TS]

00:43:49   isn't terrible is a superhero movie that [TS]

00:43:52   tries to have everything in it you know [TS]

00:43:54   great acting dramatic fight scenes and [TS]

00:43:57   amazing villain and every possible [TS]

00:43:59   scenario you can imagine for the villain [TS]

00:44:01   to go in a you know a love story the [TS]

00:44:04   loss of a main character revenge and it [TS]

00:44:06   just it just ends up being too much the [TS]

00:44:08   dark knight is a great great movie for [TS]

00:44:09   about sixty percent and then it just [TS]

00:44:11   doesn't end it keeps going keeps trying [TS]

00:44:13   to have more and it it goes off the [TS]

00:44:16   rails at the end I don't wanna I don't [TS]

00:44:18   want to draw a parallel between the dark [TS]

00:44:21   knight and batman returns the second of [TS]

00:44:25   the tim burton Batman's which is a far [TS]

00:44:28   Batman Returns far inferior to the dark [TS]

00:44:30   knight i would say the dark knight is a [TS]

00:44:31   good movie it's just horribly overrated [TS]

00:44:34   but they are similar in that both of [TS]

00:44:37   them the first movie was successful had [TS]

00:44:39   a lot of constraints that I think may [TS]

00:44:41   have made them successful and then they [TS]

00:44:43   took all the constraints off and and the [TS]

00:44:45   with batman returns it was really like [TS]

00:44:48   okay well we made Tim Burton act like a [TS]

00:44:50   grown-up he made a good movie now will [TS]

00:44:52   let him do whatever the hell he wants [TS]

00:44:53   oh god he made he's made something [TS]

00:44:55   atrocious [TS]

00:44:57   not to mention the fact that that why is [TS]

00:44:59   it that superhero movie franchises feel [TS]

00:45:01   that once a movie is successful the best [TS]

00:45:03   way to do a sequel is by multiplying the [TS]

00:45:06   number of villains in it by a factor of [TS]

00:45:08   three [TS]

00:45:08   Oh God well the doctor i didn't have [TS]

00:45:11   that problem with the multiple villain [TS]

00:45:12   well I could have Harvey today's any of [TS]

00:45:15   this stuff comes at the end which is in [TS]

00:45:17   my mind the worst part of that movie is [TS]

00:45:19   with because that I know where are you [TS]

00:45:21   always try is trying to lead into the [TS]

00:45:22   next movie with my biggest complaints [TS]

00:45:24   are they like the fairy scene and the [TS]

00:45:26   sort of little brother moralizing those [TS]

00:45:28   two bits didn't need to be in that movie [TS]

00:45:31   a fairy stone i think is terrible and [TS]

00:45:33   that's actually happening simultaneous [TS]

00:45:35   with another scene that is bad which is [TS]

00:45:38   Batman gets equipped morgan freeman [TS]

00:45:42   equips Batman with his his bat radar [TS]

00:45:45   right his ballot all right he goes into [TS]

00:45:47   a tall building and he's trying to fight [TS]

00:45:49   bad guys in this tall building and it's [TS]

00:45:51   one of the most incompetent we put [TS]

00:45:52   together action scenes I've ever seen in [TS]

00:45:54   a major movie you at no point do you [TS]

00:45:56   really understand what [TS]

00:45:57   going on you're completely lose track it [TS]

00:46:01   sort of transformers level of confusion [TS]

00:46:03   and it's a shame because again if [TS]

00:46:06   somebody come in and said no no this is [TS]

00:46:08   too much you've got a great movie here [TS]

00:46:09   if we chop off most of the last 30 [TS]

00:46:11   minutes or 45 minutes it would be a much [TS]

00:46:14   better movie than it is [TS]

00:46:15   yeah because it starts really strong and [TS]

00:46:17   it's focused and strong and dramatic and [TS]

00:46:19   I think the worst decision was that they [TS]

00:46:20   tried to make the big dramatic thing [TS]

00:46:24   that happens in the final act is bad [TS]

00:46:27   one of the things is there's not a [TS]

00:46:29   problem is 10 different things that [TS]

00:46:30   happen the final actress Batman [TS]

00:46:31   rejecting the idea of spying on the [TS]

00:46:34   citizenry you know I'll do it this once [TS]

00:46:37   but you have to burn the computers down [TS]

00:46:38   when you're done you know and his and [TS]

00:46:40   his faithful helper almost you know [TS]

00:46:42   threatens to quit because of this great [TS]

00:46:43   decision like no one cares about this [TS]

00:46:45   this is not of Batman's world [TS]

00:46:47   I don't care about Batman spies on his [TS]

00:46:49   to fight the bad guys i was on a later [TS]

00:46:52   superhero movie episode [TS]

00:46:54   yeah you were talking about this we're [TS]

00:46:56   talking about this year's superhero [TS]

00:46:58   movies i was on that one when I was not [TS]

00:46:59   on the one where we talked about [TS]

00:47:00   superhero movies in general right in the [TS]

00:47:02   dark knight which we didn't like even [TS]

00:47:04   though my design [TS]

00:47:05   I liked it I liked it speaking of being [TS]

00:47:08   critical now would probably be a good [TS]

00:47:10   time to interject my personal favorite [TS]

00:47:12   podcast moment of this year [TS]

00:47:14   oh yes which is John siracusa in the TV [TS]

00:47:17   draft picking Jack Shephard and he's so [TS]

00:47:21   proud of himself for getting to the [TS]

00:47:22   third round and and still having Jack [TS]

00:47:24   Shephard on the board and immediately he [TS]

00:47:27   gets slammed relentlessly by every [TS]

00:47:28   single other person on the on the [TS]

00:47:30   podcast for picking such a drab dull [TS]

00:47:32   character and literally everybody has [TS]

00:47:35   their say I think 11 a time everybody [TS]

00:47:37   leans it and what is nothing to say at [TS]

00:47:39   the end of him because he's been so [TS]

00:47:42   abused [TS]

00:47:44   I'm happy to have made into the third [TS]

00:47:46   round for this pic Jack Shephard from [TS]

00:47:48   lost the lead of one of the best shows [TS]

00:47:51   in recent years at least interesting [TS]

00:47:53   there are you sure he wants that well [TS]

00:47:55   maybe I have a plan for him everything [TS]

00:47:57   that everybody has a plan for Jack's [TS]

00:47:59   gonna cry a lot [TS]

00:48:00   boredom is that you're playing i hope i [TS]

00:48:02   hope you're not counting on your show [TS]

00:48:04   involving him asking perceptive [TS]

00:48:05   questions i think i think he looks I [TS]

00:48:09   think you look sad a lot and he stares [TS]

00:48:11   in the middle distance a lot so you know [TS]

00:48:13   what would be a good episode of your [TS]

00:48:14   show but let's find out how Jack got his [TS]

00:48:16   tattoos I hear that would be really [TS]

00:48:19   interesting [TS]

00:48:20   he knew he just needed a doctor for his [TS]

00:48:22   little Firefly show right of course it [TS]

00:48:24   turned out to be you know part of the [TS]

00:48:25   plan but still it was it's it's so funny [TS]

00:48:28   because he's pleased just even John [TS]

00:48:30   siracusa needs needs a little needs to [TS]

00:48:32   be taken down a peg every once in awhile [TS]

00:48:34   it siracusa yeah listen Scott who is not [TS]

00:48:41   scott McNulty crazy or he would become [TS]

00:48:45   invited said that he enjoyed episode 33 [TS]

00:48:48   win Syracuse's skewered real genius [TS]

00:48:50   oh good times and I episode 23 when [TS]

00:48:54   serenity Caldwell picked Mystery Men as [TS]

00:48:57   her superhero movie that she enjoyed I [TS]

00:49:00   believe who Diana and skeletor yeah [TS]

00:49:04   there you go just yet and Scotts request [TS]

00:49:06   is more drafts and more old movies so [TS]

00:49:09   vote for old things [TS]

00:49:11   whoo yeah you can do that much for that [TS]

00:49:14   are you things that are also old no old [TS]

00:49:17   things [TS]

00:49:18   nice um I just big 40 you things have a [TS]

00:49:23   lot of canceled shows strapped to which [TS]

00:49:25   wich a which was our lesson same of our [TS]

00:49:28   tube perhaps that we did but there was [TS]

00:49:32   some good stuff and my favorite moment [TS]

00:49:33   of that episode is where we all forgot [TS]

00:49:35   to pick firefly except Scott who hates [TS]

00:49:38   firefly but the rest is just for God [TS]

00:49:40   didn't win forget didn't we make an [TS]

00:49:42   explicit agreement upfront that was [TS]

00:49:44   afterwards that I was named can we make [TS]

00:49:47   it explicit agreement at the word yes it [TS]

00:49:49   was red card I i think if you if you [TS]

00:49:51   listen carefully to a clip that i might [TS]

00:49:53   play in a second you might notice that [TS]

00:49:55   there is a slight edit their where [TS]

00:49:58   we actually went through the first round [TS]

00:49:59   realize nobody picked firefly I need [TS]

00:50:02   that it would be the first pic and then [TS]

00:50:04   moved that section ahead to make it seem [TS]

00:50:06   as if we planned the whole sexy [TS]

00:50:09   oh it's likely they changed the Darren's [TS]

00:50:12   secrets are revealed [TS]

00:50:14   oh here so i guess it's my choice but [TS]

00:50:18   before I make my my selection did [TS]

00:50:21   everybody just assumed that everybody [TS]

00:50:22   else is going to pick Firefly is that [TS]

00:50:24   what happened [TS]

00:50:25   I mean what should I just bought us [TS]

00:50:26   should we just site Firefly and spot it [TS]

00:50:29   as saying like number one is firefly but [TS]

00:50:32   and none of us are going to pick it [TS]

00:50:33   because really I could pick it here but [TS]

00:50:35   I've got such a long list and I think it [TS]

00:50:37   kind of goes without saying that [TS]

00:50:38   everybody knows that Joss Whedon's sci [TS]

00:50:41   fi Western e thing firefly got cancelled [TS]

00:50:43   way too soon and was really quite good [TS]

00:50:46   and it died young and left a beautiful [TS]

00:50:48   corpse [TS]

00:50:48   but you know please somebody wants to [TS]

00:50:50   wants to pick it we can do that but [TS]

00:50:51   otherwise i'm willing to just put it up [TS]

00:50:53   on the word was it was taking anybody's [TS]

00:50:55   was it not on anybody's list [TS]

00:50:57   oh it's on my list but of course I just [TS]

00:50:58   assumed also take it so I didn't you [TS]

00:51:00   know I think we should take it as read [TS]

00:51:02   and move on yes we've talked about it [TS]

00:51:03   all the time and other episodes it was [TS]

00:51:05   20 f pic of the dream it was not on my [TS]

00:51:09   list because i do not like it but I'm I [TS]

00:51:12   you always gonna be Scott and yeah [TS]

00:51:14   anybody [TS]

00:51:16   yeah I assumed everybody else but Scott [TS]

00:51:18   would pick it will see they're all right [TS]

00:51:20   so I I you get firefly i will like a [TS]

00:51:23   firefly on the board [TS]

00:51:27   thank God we have an editor wait this [TS]

00:51:29   podcast is ended only slightly I our [TS]

00:51:34   army doctor who / podcasts know these [TS]

00:51:38   are completely unedited yes i have to [TS]

00:51:40   say and it shows [TS]

00:51:41   ya mean but originally just usually we [TS]

00:51:44   come up with greatness i particularly [TS]

00:51:46   liked our let's quilt Hitler episode if [TS]

00:51:49   only for the nonsense that it happens at [TS]

00:51:52   the very end when we go into things like [TS]

00:51:53   quilting Hitler and finding ways to make [TS]

00:51:57   nazis funny a new plot i just decided [TS]

00:52:00   that i'm going to write a book called [TS]

00:52:01   what's quilt Hitler oh look [TS]

00:52:04   uh-huh okay I know what Scott is my [TS]

00:52:08   daughter should people behind the [TS]

00:52:11   spaceship that's also a man come up with [TS]

00:52:14   a new plan called let's build Hitler i [TS]

00:52:18   like the idea of selling a book called [TS]

00:52:19   but schools filter for me to like now we [TS]

00:52:21   can suss out all the Nazis that's [TS]

00:52:24   expandable that's the way my name is [TS]

00:52:26   some overlap Nazi quilters who doesn't [TS]

00:52:30   want to smuggle with Hitler tonight but [TS]

00:52:33   they're all these while you're over 40 [TS]

00:52:35   so i can have blackmail material [TS]

00:52:36   I'm i know i am still recording our girl [TS]

00:52:40   yeah yeah we discovered one of the [TS]

00:52:44   things about Scott in the podcast and a [TS]

00:52:48   lot about ourselves so i also have have [TS]

00:52:53   have some more reader feedback here [TS]

00:52:55   these are she stayed on two stages on [TS]

00:52:56   studying these are from the contact form [TS]

00:52:59   and if you're wondering how to send us [TS]

00:53:01   information via the contact for perhaps [TS]

00:53:04   a newsletter is it to Center clock yeah [TS]

00:53:08   this historic courthouse that's that's [TS]

00:53:11   that's right it will be delivered to you [TS]

00:53:13   Fred Mertz miracle other forestry will [TS]

00:53:17   read them from the judges desk you go to [TS]

00:53:19   five-by-five a TV / contact and then you [TS]

00:53:24   can send messages like this one from [TS]

00:53:25   Stephen who writes in great show on [TS]

00:53:28   holiday movies but you missed my [TS]

00:53:30   favorite remember the night with Barbara [TS]

00:53:32   Stanwyck and Fred MacMurray are you have [TS]

00:53:36   not seen that 1i have no idea what he's [TS]

00:53:37   talking about [TS]

00:53:38   now I've never heard of it do you think [TS]

00:53:39   that stephen fry [TS]

00:53:41   it's possible you know it's a bad sign [TS]

00:53:43   when the title is remember the night and [TS]

00:53:45   nobody does nobody remembers remember [TS]

00:53:47   that night the day you'll always [TS]

00:53:50   remember question from mr. David volada [TS]

00:53:53   who says i'm new to the show and enjoy [TS]

00:53:55   it tons [TS]

00:53:56   thank you used in in your recent book [TS]

00:53:59   club episode you joked about this being [TS]

00:54:02   a book club [TS]

00:54:02   it's not it's not a joke okay maybe it [TS]

00:54:05   is a book club [TS]

00:54:06   he says I'm new so I apologize if this [TS]

00:54:10   is common knowledge but is there such a [TS]

00:54:11   thing where I can learn of a book to be [TS]

00:54:13   discussed in the future read it on my [TS]

00:54:14   own and then listening as its discussed [TS]

00:54:16   and the answer is if we get our act [TS]

00:54:18   together in the previous book club we [TS]

00:54:21   will mention it if we don't get our act [TS]

00:55:23   this 2012 but but he wants to hear us [TS]

00:55:26   discuss cult christmas movies so maybe [TS]

00:55:45   yesterday at least partially satisfy as [TS]

00:55:46   if we listen to Christopher even though [TS]

00:55:48   we didn't read his letter until much [TS]

00:55:50   later he's an avid listener of 2011 [TS]

00:55:56   review of the podcast please go to [TS]

00:55:58   iTunes and give us a positive review [TS]

00:56:05   ugh OH was unless my Kathy five people [TS]

00:56:12   talking over top of each other laughing [TS]

00:56:14   at their own poor quote jokes [TS]

00:56:16   close quote and then repeating them [TS]

00:56:18   again because no one else laughed no [TS]

00:56:20   insight no interesting points of view [TS]

00:56:23   no entertainment value unless you have [TS]

00:56:24   no friends to sit around a table and [TS]

00:56:26   chat with listen to be uncomfortable is [TS]

00:56:28   like listening to five different podcast [TS]

00:56:30   being played at once [TS]

00:56:32   that's an idea a stain on the otherwise [TS]

00:56:35   mostly excellent five-by-five network i [TS]

00:56:38   like that i like the qualifier mostly [TS]

00:56:40   closely [TS]

00:56:41   I'd like to apologize again for the [TS]

00:56:43   stephen fry episode i'm clearly we're so [TS]

00:56:47   I i think this gentleman might be an m16 [TS]

00:56:50   friday so Stephen Fry I've been playing [TS]

00:56:54   twenty-year-old game [TS]

00:56:55   oh and I bought it you name nine out of [TS]

00:56:59   ten models when they're shot die by [TS]

00:57:01   saying ugh [TS]

00:57:03   oh good point so it's you're saying he's [TS]

00:57:05   a pixelated not see it in the in his [TS]

00:57:07   death throes as he's taken a review [TS]

00:57:09   30 mr. sure he listened to a second [TS]

00:57:12   episode that wasn't Stephen Fry it [TS]

00:57:15   probably it was probably this one and [TS]

00:57:16   this one is subsequently he drafted he [TS]

00:57:18   wrote that i remember seeing that one [TS]

00:57:19   yeah so not everybody loved it [TS]

00:57:22   not everybody loved the TV draft that's [TS]

00:57:25   ok that's ok you can love us you can [TS]

00:57:27   hate it's exactly you're allowed to be [TS]

00:57:28   critical of us we week so good we can [TS]

00:57:31   add ago we can be praised phul you [TS]

00:57:33   should be critical in principle to [TS]

00:57:34   exactly what you're gonna be critical [TS]

00:57:36   keep it to yourself don't want to hear [TS]

00:57:40   it cries your position [TS]

00:57:42   whenever i'm criticizing if your [TS]

00:57:44   critical at least be at least be [TS]

00:57:46   inventive and innovative don't criticize [TS]

00:57:48   thought you were gonna say at least be [TS]

00:57:49   critical of jobs siracusa for that or [TS]

00:57:52   that God knows I dude he's Syracuse is [TS]

00:57:55   too big to be on this episode tonight by [TS]

00:57:56   the way it's nice to be so this proxies [TS]

00:57:59   and his eye his agent is agent would let [TS]

00:58:02   up here [TS]

00:58:03   he doesn't do clip shows sadly strictly [TS]

00:58:07   regulated yeah ever since Eric's gonna [TS]

00:58:09   work without the star wars holiday [TS]

00:58:11   season we couldn't afford him couldn't [TS]

00:58:14   afford John cerquita up so I've [TS]

00:58:16   exhausted all of our reader interaction [TS]

00:58:18   for for 2011 there that was able to [TS]

00:58:21   thank goodness [TS]

00:58:22   can I ask can I throw out my favorite [TS]

00:58:24   moment moment from about yes please God [TS]

00:58:27   I right you know I was racking my brains [TS]

00:58:28   that it popped into my head because I [TS]

00:58:30   just I love this moment I don't remember [TS]

00:58:32   exactly where you put it and i think it [TS]

00:58:33   may be at the beginning of one of one of [TS]

00:58:35   the Empire episodes which is everybody's [TS]

00:58:37   impression of a imperial probe droid [TS]

00:58:39   oh yes that's at the beginning of one of [TS]

00:58:40   the Empire episodes and the other the [TS]

00:58:42   other one ends with yes largely you [TS]

00:58:44   doing your series of sound effects from [TS]

00:58:47   you can learn story star wars soundboard [TS]

00:58:49   very real problem guard and imap matter [TS]

00:58:53   and a proper environment [TS]

00:58:55   ok and I'll try it remember where ya [TS]

00:58:59   riverbrook super oh how forgot but maybe [TS]

00:59:09   it's a little crass two favorite my own [TS]

00:59:11   appearance and about getting you know [TS]

00:59:13   what no one else did [TS]

00:59:14   so no I thought it was that that was a [TS]

00:59:15   funny moment with John mentioned the [TS]

00:59:17   imperial probe droid have been all four [TS]

00:59:19   of us begin doing our impressions all of [TS]

00:59:20   which are extremely different which is [TS]

00:59:22   also strange its yes but all of them [TS]

00:59:26   good in their own way [TS]

00:59:27   oh i think i will like to give a [TS]

00:59:28   shout-out as the kids say maybe sure [TS]

00:59:31   this will say that to glen relations [TS]

00:59:33   Jack Donaghy impersonation so glad i [TS]

00:59:39   love and II we love we love Glenn Glenn [TS]

00:59:42   Glenn could do a one-man show [TS]

00:59:45   I think he did so so Glenn would do his [TS]

00:59:49   Jack Donnie impression and I believe he [TS]

00:59:52   mispronounces Jack Donaghey we could [TS]

00:59:56   have them do some heavy breathing that's [TS]

00:59:58   right and and then [TS]

00:59:58   right and and then [TS]

01:00:00   you could have him to host an episode [TS]

01:00:02   about they might be giants and [TS]

01:00:03   repeatedly delivered of the demand as [TS]

01:00:06   they may be Giants they must be Giants [TS]

01:00:08   there could be done I don't know go and [TS]

01:00:11   don't forget of course is also excellent [TS]

01:00:12   impression of Jimmy Stewart the holiday [TS]

01:00:15   movies episode but of course one of [TS]

01:00:18   these days to the moon [TS]

01:00:19   stop your yapping we have a shipment of [TS]

01:00:21   10 million blackberry playbook stew [TS]

01:00:23   process for the unobtanium that the [TS]

01:00:25   Canadians actually baked into the cpu [TS]

01:00:27   Canadians to the moon [TS]

01:00:31   Sulu's probables a man of one voice [TS]

01:00:36   stroked out Jimmy's but many [TS]

01:00:39   Impressionists but we love God and a bag [TS]

01:00:43   claim my favorite thing about about the [TS]

01:00:46   Glen contributed to the podcast this [TS]

01:00:47   year is that he came up with the idea [TS]

01:00:50   for the TV draft man wasn't in it as [TS]

01:00:53   well and then refused to to play with [TS]

01:00:56   the team that we in fact drafted for yes [TS]

01:00:58   yes he's he's told me several times that [TS]

01:01:01   this is phase one of his multi-phase [TS]

01:01:03   plan to destroy the podcast [TS]

01:01:05   well I thought phase one with Stephen [TS]

01:01:06   fra that was more like phase zero well [TS]

01:01:10   so you know it was a it was a good year [TS]

01:01:12   we started this podcast in 2010 but we [TS]

01:01:15   did a whole lot of episodes in 2011 and [TS]

01:01:18   it was all it was a lot of fun i'm [TS]
