00:04:12 ◼   ► they're the sorts of songs maybe that [TS]

00:04:19 ◼   ► long way because of a lot of the rest of [TS]

00:04:24 ◼   ► with the songs whether they're overdub [TS]

00:04:33 ◼   ► couple of the interviews you know it's [TS]

00:04:38 ◼   ► these like mockumentaries kind of don't [TS]

00:04:46 ◼   ► a huge success 15-20 years ago [TS]

00:04:51 ◼   ► ago 15 years ago there there on the way [TS]

00:04:53 ◼   ► but they can still like bringing a crowd [TS]

00:04:55 ◼   ► and most mockumentaries would be well [TS]

00:04:58 ◼   ► let's gets like stupid songs that just [TS]

00:05:00 ◼   ► don't work people who just cant play the [TS]

00:05:03 ◼   ► fact that they are decent musicians they [TS]

00:05:05 ◼   ► can really play the stuff [TS]

00:05:07 ◼   ► not only does it sell that idea but also [TS]

00:05:09 ◼   ► you sort of get another layer in when [TS]

00:05:11 ◼   ► you figure out that ok so they're good [TS]

00:05:15 ◼   ► can compose good songs they're probably [TS]

00:05:17 ◼   ► the reason why they never made it to [TS]

00:05:18 ◼   ► that next level is that they just have [TS]

00:05:20 ◼   ► absolutely no taste whatsoever what they [TS]

00:05:23 ◼   ► wanted to the really stupid songs about [TS]

00:05:25 ◼   ► bottoms and sex farms and let's do a [TS]

00:05:29 ◼   ► song about Stonehenge it'll be all like [TS]

00:05:30 ◼   ► we'll be there huge master fiance was [TS]

00:05:33 ◼   ► just this is this [TS]

00:05:34 ◼   ► yeah and everything like every song [TS]

00:05:36 ◼   ► every song that they write is like the [TS]

00:05:38 ◼   ► doodle on the cover of anybody's trapper [TS]

00:05:40 ◼   ► keeper with her 14 years old and a boy [TS]

00:05:43 ◼   ► and puberty that's every single song [TS]

00:05:46 ◼   ► with spinal tap does and and they're all [TS]

00:05:48 ◼   ► they all sound like you know we've we've [TS]

00:05:52 ◼   ► heard those songs by other bands for [TS]

00:05:55 ◼   ► real that were completely straight and [TS]

00:05:57 ◼   ► perfectly sincere in there in there you [TS]

00:06:05 ◼   ► longings I mean at you know the one [TS]

00:06:08 ◼   ► thing that after i saw this movie for [TS]

00:06:13 ◼   ► don't know 1985-86 I had a hard time [TS]

00:06:16 ◼   ► taking going to concerts and not [TS]

00:06:19 ◼   ► laughing excellent and tax on state [TS]

00:06:22 ◼   ► because they were exactly the same and [TS]

00:06:25 ◼   ► apparently i guess a number i was doing [TS]

00:06:27 ◼   ► a little bit of reading beforehand about [TS]

00:06:28 ◼   ► this and I I didn't realize how many [TS]

00:06:30 ◼   ► rock and rollers watch this movie and [TS]

00:06:34 ◼   ► either didn't get the joke or were [TS]

00:06:37 ◼   ► where the first time or were sort of [TS]

00:06:41 ◼   ► shocked and appalled and said this is [TS]

00:06:43 ◼   ► liquid that that they made a movie of us [TS]

00:06:45 ◼   ► you know this is all this is this is [TS]

00:06:48 ◼   ► like our lives so one of the one of the [TS]

00:06:51 ◼   ► things that's amazing about these songs [TS]

00:06:52 ◼   ► right i saw this movie for the first [TS]

00:06:54 ◼   ► time on video in after having heard [TS]

00:06:57 ◼   ► about it and it being famous [TS]

00:06:59 ◼   ► I think maybe right before I went to [TS]

00:07:02 ◼   ► college or right right when i started in [TS]

00:07:05 ◼   ► college and and i remember i literally [TS]

00:07:07 ◼   ► being on the floor pounding the floor [TS]

00:07:10 ◼   ► and crying with laughter as I watched it [TS]

00:07:12 ◼   ► so it was it was not overhyped it lived [TS]

00:07:15 ◼   ► up to the hype it more and more than did [TS]

00:07:17 ◼   ► that but when you talk about the [TS]

00:07:18 ◼   ► songwriting I mean it is that perfect [TS]

00:07:19 ◼   ► combination these are songs the [TS]

00:07:21 ◼   ► reasonable songs they're actually catchy [TS]

00:07:23 ◼   ► and it's not just that they're juvenile [TS]

00:07:25 ◼   ► but it's the it's the they they come [TS]

00:07:28 ◼   ► across as being written by somebody who [TS]

00:07:30 ◼   ► thinks they're being really really [TS]

00:07:32 ◼   ► clever and and and they're not when [TS]

00:07:35 ◼   ► there's a fine line between its City [TS]

00:07:39 ◼   ► stupid another level with this is spinal [TS]

00:07:42 ◼   ► tap starting with big bottom right with [TS]

00:07:45 ◼   ► big bottom let's get it out of the way [TS]

00:07:47 ◼   ► right at the beginning there is nothing [TS]

00:07:49 ◼   ► subtle here and there's nothing clever [TS]

00:08:36 ◼   ► out a series of drummers and the first [TS]

00:08:41 ◼   ► let's say the first thing after the [TS]

00:08:43 ◼   ► after the opening number one first their [TS]

00:08:45 ◼   ► interviews with a bunch of real fans and [TS]

00:08:49 ◼   ► that is that is a real aspect of this is [TS]

00:08:51 ◼   ► the piece [TS]

00:08:51 ◼   ► the lady who says well I feel like you [TS]

00:08:53 ◼   ► know that you musically connected with [TS]

00:08:56 ◼   ► the band real person actual person you [TS]

00:09:00 ◼   ► till you can't make this stuff up but [TS]

00:09:02 ◼   ► then we that but then the movie launches [TS]

00:09:04 ◼   ► with this party that is kicking them off [TS]

00:09:06 ◼   ► on their american tour right and and [TS]

00:09:08 ◼   ► this is that moment where I think how [TS]

00:09:09 ◼   ► did anybody think this was this was real [TS]

00:09:11 ◼   ► because it's because we get Fran [TS]

00:09:13 ◼   ► Drescher as Bobby flagman who says her [TS]

00:09:16 ◼   ► name again and again and then they put [TS]

00:09:17 ◼   ► up the title that says her name is just [TS]

00:09:19 ◼   ► a stupid joke but it's great and this [TS]

00:09:21 ◼   ► has got the mind for are serving food [TS]

00:09:23 ◼   ► and and it's inexplicably Dana Carvey [TS]

00:09:25 ◼   ► and Billy Crystal who and they end up [TS]

00:09:28 ◼   ► with one line each and I imagine there's [TS]

00:09:30 ◼   ► an entire thing with the mines that just [TS]

00:09:32 ◼   ► got completely cut out because this [TS]

00:09:33 ◼   ► movie was famously i think five hours or [TS]

00:09:36 ◼   ► so in running time at in its first edit [TS]

00:09:38 ◼   ► and then they ended up cutting it to 90 [TS]

00:09:40 ◼   ► minutes which is not unlike any [TS]

00:09:42 ◼   ► documentary right you're gonna find the [TS]

00:09:44 ◼   ► stories you go [TS]

00:09:45 ◼   ► I bet especially since this was so this [TS]

00:09:47 ◼   ► was improvisational and they got great [TS]

00:09:50 ◼   ► people who knew how to really they [TS]

00:09:52 ◼   ► stayed in character the whole time this [TS]

00:09:54 ◼   ► something that really didn't like from [TS]

00:09:55 ◼   ► the later like Christopher Guest [TS]

00:09:57 ◼   ► mockumentaries you can tell that these [TS]

00:09:58 ◼   ► are people who are dying to say [TS]

00:10:06 ◼   ► these extended dvds that have like hours [TS]

00:10:11 ◼   ► you to seek out by 11 applying on ebay [TS]

00:10:18 ◼   ► like every scrap of footage that that [TS]

00:10:20 ◼   ► ever was even considered foreigners like [TS]

00:10:21 ◼   ► five hours for the bonus stuff and i [TS]

00:10:23 ◼   ► paid like a hundred and forty dollars [TS]

00:10:45 ◼   ► is the criterion DVD not only doesn't [TS]
