00:00:13   heard us we were midway through our [TS]

00:00:15   discussion of the lord of the rings [TS]

00:00:17   movies i showed remarkable restraint in [TS]

00:00:20   only making two episodes instead of [TS]

00:00:22   three or four or five or six like Peter [TS]

00:00:25   Jackson would do but we should jump back [TS]

00:00:27   into it so that uh so that I'm not [TS]

00:00:30   tempted like being tempted by the power [TS]

00:00:32   of the Ring the power of splitting [TS]

00:00:34   podcasts in two more episodes is strong [TS]

00:00:37   so too here to save me from the tip that [TS]

00:00:40   temptation are the members of my [TS]

00:00:42   fellowship indian taco is here hi Andy [TS]

00:00:55   couple hours before this we started [TS]

00:00:57   talking about the second part that's it [TS]

00:00:58   would be exhausting to do it all [TS]

00:01:00   everywhere in the world before we start [TS]

00:01:01   talking about this [TS]

00:01:02   no Andy I don't drive people see I don't [TS]

00:01:06   remember the shower only when the Ellis [TS]

00:01:08   the elves were still in the world then I [TS]

00:01:12   damage or destroy you you did not would [TS]

00:01:15   not could not believe me I know yaar my [TS]

00:01:21   habit i do not trust that Hobbit strict [TS]

00:01:24   see hobbitses that bugs body or column [TS]

00:01:27   rascally rabbits though it's Elmer Fudd [TS]

00:01:30   it's john syracuse hi John do not meddle [TS]

00:01:34   in the affairs of handy because he is [TS]

00:01:35   subtle and quick to anger [TS]

00:01:36   well you've got a million of its great [TS]

00:01:38   head that that's not going to be my new [TS]

00:01:40   twitter like description that's their [TS]

00:01:44   knows Elvis and we don't [TS]

00:01:46   oh I'm sorry I wasn't paying attention i [TS]

00:01:47   was forging more brings up our want me [TS]

00:01:49   guys reason or no and you around if I [TS]

00:01:52   had a ring of power i would become [TS]

00:01:54   terrible and beautiful [TS]

00:01:58   if i had a good a hammer I'd hammer out [TS]

00:02:00   some rings of power you put those up on [TS]

00:02:02   etsy you get this big long story about [TS]

00:02:04   how you were trying to make these in the [TS]

00:02:06   roads but you just bordering this for a [TS]

00:02:08   supplier in China 11 i'm sick of [TS]

00:02:11   pretending for were made for the elves [TS]

00:02:13   nine were made for men and 15 were made [TS]

00:02:15   for SC the 15 million QVC got a shipment [TS]

00:02:20   of a hundred and fifty i like i like the [TS]

00:02:21   alternate version of lord of the ring [TS]

00:02:23   I swear or Gandalf throws the ring into [TS]

00:02:25   the fire the very beginning and it just [TS]

00:02:26   melts in these look right does its job [TS]

00:02:28   well done [TS]

00:02:29   unfortunately that didn't happen and so [TS]

00:02:31   now we need to talk more about the lord [TS]

00:02:33   of the ring now let's go shoot a [TS]

00:02:35   nine-hour shifts comedy with so treating [TS]

00:02:38   jerry not well one of the things that i [TS]

00:02:40   would say was a strong traumatic change [TS]

00:02:42   in the movies over the books and I [TS]

00:02:44   appreciate it and actually going back at [TS]

00:02:45   times in fact i did this when watching [TS]

00:02:47   it recently and checked the book to [TS]

00:02:49   remind me of the scene because the scene [TS]

00:02:51   in the movie is so strong is that in the [TS]

00:02:54   book Saruman is an important character [TS]

00:02:56   is often the background off to the side [TS]

00:02:58   he sort of another malicious force until [TS]

00:03:01   they actually confront him and organic [TS]

00:03:03   off will recall meeting with mr we know [TS]

00:03:05   he was reticent at the White council and [TS]

00:03:07   the hobbit era and whatever in the [TS]

00:03:10   movies when they decided they brought [TS]

00:03:11   much father but much closer to four and [TS]

00:03:14   made him the big villain as a proxy for [TS]

00:03:16   Sarang as you move through the movies [TS]

00:03:18   and I think it worked very well so when [TS]

00:03:20   they're climbing the mountain the past [TS]

00:03:22   of colorado colorado ass across the the [TS]

00:03:25   mines of moria below they're trying to [TS]

00:03:27   go across the mountain is opposing them [TS]

00:03:29   in the books [TS]

00:03:30   it's the mountain the mountain sort of [TS]

00:03:31   part of that sense of evil it's signed [TS]

00:03:34   so forth in the movie they have this [TS]

00:03:36   great thing of of Christopher Lee [TS]

00:03:38   standing on top of our of you know of [TS]

00:03:41   the our thang camera or thank Thor thank [TS]

00:03:44   it which is a North is beautifully [TS]

00:03:47   conceived of it is exactly how I thought [TS]

00:03:49   of it from the books and stay there and [TS]

00:03:51   stealing their instant orrible island [TS]

00:03:53   about over you know it [TS]

00:03:55   speaking of these words of power and [TS]

00:03:57   creating the storm that is traveling [TS]

00:03:59   across all of middle-earth to prevent [TS]

00:04:01   them across the past that's great movie [TS]

00:04:03   making is a great thing because you [TS]

00:04:05   can't just have in the fellowship [TS]

00:04:07   specifically everything is against the [TS]

00:04:09   rocks the trees the land the earth the [TS]

00:04:11   markings the orcs and in this to have [TS]

00:04:13   one malicious force and then I think [TS]

00:04:16   there's other elements as well we're [TS]

00:04:17   Saruman is directly engaged in opposing [TS]

00:04:20   them the the scene in row and row and [TS]

00:04:23   two towers where the garden is under [TS]

00:04:27   warm tongues you know control [TS]

00:04:29   essentially you seen this old man is a [TS]

00:04:31   wonderful this i think the most [TS]

00:04:33   evocative scene in the movie it's be [TS]

00:04:36   full and it's also a terrific scene in [TS]

00:04:38   the book and I went and read the scene [TS]

00:04:39   in the book and realize it's completely [TS]

00:04:40   different in many ways as Gandalf goes [TS]

00:04:42   in there he has his staff in the movie [TS]

00:04:45   and the staff is an important thing and [TS]

00:04:47   he's battling Saruman the movie Saruman [TS]

00:04:49   has essentially put a spell over theta [TS]

00:04:51   and he says I will draw you from him [TS]

00:04:53   like poison from a wound and does this [TS]

00:04:55   thing and then you sort of knock [TS]

00:04:57   ceremony you cut back to or thanks [TS]

00:04:58   either Monacan is asked come back there [TS]

00:05:01   when you watch the King become younger [TS]

00:05:03   and stand up and resume is sort of what [TS]

00:05:06   has been removed the and social event [TS]

00:05:08   and the book it's a more gradual process [TS]

00:05:11   of Saruman is not mentioned his words [TS]

00:05:13   may have poison but the King gradually [TS]

00:05:15   comes back to himself over the course of [TS]

00:05:17   a number of pages and I think of all the [TS]

00:05:20   things they did I think that's one of [TS]

00:05:21   the best enhancements because it's not [TS]

00:05:23   that Saruman becomes the focus of the [TS]

00:05:25   films but it's more like it makes sense [TS]

00:05:27   there are things in the book where you [TS]

00:05:28   feel like there's just too much evil in [TS]

00:05:31   too much sort of in coey action going on [TS]

00:05:35   and to have him actually directing it [TS]

00:05:37   and then for him to be defeated you have [TS]

00:05:39   this point well now we are now stepping [TS]

00:05:41   forward we're going into the might of [TS]

00:05:42   Sauron in Mordor now a wonderfully done [TS]

00:05:45   all that stuff kind of works in the book [TS]

00:05:47   when the whole world is against you like [TS]

00:05:48   this nameless evil where is it moving [TS]

00:05:50   you don't you when you met do a movie [TS]

00:05:52   adaptation you have to say okay we need [TS]

00:05:53   an actual antagonist we can't be in a [TS]

00:05:55   book you have plenty of time to describe [TS]

00:05:57   the evilness of the roots of those trees [TS]

00:05:59   and all that because not everything [TS]

00:06:00   being against you you can you can [TS]

00:06:02   actually convey that the trees hit men [TS]

00:06:03   for whatever is in the hit man because [TS]

00:06:05   you've got you down for narration [TS]

00:06:07   basically in the book you have the [TS]

00:06:08   writer writing stuff and you can [TS]

00:06:09   describe in the movie you either have to [TS]

00:06:11   have a literal narrator which is usually [TS]

00:06:12   death or you have to say well let's just [TS]

00:06:14   have an actual antagonist then we'll [TS]

00:06:16   make it Saruman so yeah that's that's [TS]

00:06:19   what you gotta do when you make [TS]

00:06:19   something a movie those are they made a [TS]

00:06:21   lot of good choices in the adaptation [TS]

00:06:22   but all those choices necessarily make [TS]

00:06:26   it different from the book because the [TS]

00:06:27   book it's not like one of those books [TS]

00:06:28   sometimes I read a book and I'm like [TS]

00:06:30   this could be a movie just take it right [TS]

00:06:31   off the page throw it on the screen it's [TS]

00:06:33   a movie boom is Lord of the Rings is not [TS]

00:06:35   one of those books at all i think we can [TS]

00:06:37   argue the Balrog is actually also [TS]

00:06:38   well-conceived because even though it's [TS]

00:06:40   that scene is nearly word identical to [TS]

00:06:43   the book they did the thing where you [TS]

00:06:46   don't see it as distinctly they didn't [TS]

00:06:48   say oh here [TS]

00:06:49   balrog you know we all know that from [TS]

00:06:50   dnd with a ball gag is I had the monster [TS]

00:06:52   manual let's bring one out folks [TS]

00:06:54   ladies and gentlemen the Balrog I think [TS]

00:06:56   that's one of my favorite scenes in the [TS]

00:06:57   movie is that you bring him out he's [TS]

00:06:58   still you can't see him exactly again of [TS]

00:07:00   spending on you like this poor old man [TS]

00:07:02   we've thought of his without his powers [TS]

00:07:04   like oh he can actually battle this huge [TS]

00:07:07   thing all rocky you know it's a great [TS]

00:07:09   that that was of my favorite part of [TS]

00:07:11   showing these movies to my son was we [TS]

00:07:13   have I remember I remember if we had [TS]

00:07:15   taken a break between discs or not but [TS]

00:07:16   of course you know so fellowship ends [TS]

00:07:18   and Gandalf is gone and everything and [TS]

00:07:19   two towers opened an office in the very [TS]

00:07:21   opening but somewhere near the very [TS]

00:07:22   beginning to terrorists like they take [TS]

00:07:25   you back to hey remember Gandalf falling [TS]

00:07:27   down the pit guess what he's falling and [TS]

00:07:29   he's next to this guy and that was that [TS]

00:07:30   that's how you know the Gandalf is back [TS]

00:07:32   and he was so excited to see that like [TS]

00:07:34   it's a reminds me the beginning of [TS]

00:07:36   castle in the sky where they show that [TS]

00:07:37   the girl falling off of the the airship [TS]

00:07:40   and the credits roll then they resumed [TS]

00:07:41   on her fall and also that you come back [TS]

00:07:42   to this movie and it's like guess what [TS]

00:07:44   he's fallen down to put that wasn't the [TS]

00:07:46   end of him falling down with the Balrog [TS]

00:07:47   it's a really deep pit and they're [TS]

00:07:49   fighting as they fall they're means that [TS]

00:07:51   was photo was having a dream which I [TS]

00:07:52   forgot until I saw the films that [TS]

00:07:53   they've struck that that he wakes and so [TS]

00:07:55   you don't you see him fall you see that [TS]

00:07:57   whole part and you get that emotional [TS]

00:07:59   resonance of the end of the film you [TS]

00:08:01   know the end of that part and then or of [TS]

00:08:03   the ghetto get enough said i should say [TS]

00:08:05   and then they break away so you can [TS]

00:08:07   often tell it later when he meets yeah [TS]

00:08:10   it is somewhere in the second movie like [TS]

00:08:11   if you had been waiting between the [TS]

00:08:13   movies but of course he's not waiting in [TS]

00:08:14   the movies he just we got to see the end [TS]

00:08:15   of our and then the next one like at [TS]

00:08:17   some point they show you like and it's [TS]

00:08:19   like resuming in progress that you [TS]

00:08:20   thought it was the end but like it when [TS]

00:08:22   people fall into bottomless pits like [TS]

00:08:23   well the bottomless when they still be [TS]

00:08:24   fine guess what he was still falling and [TS]

00:08:26   while he was falling he was still [TS]

00:08:28   fighting the rotten that was an exciting [TS]

00:08:30   scene [TS]

00:08:30   can we all at least agree that gandalf [TS]

00:08:32   the grey is way cooler than getting off [TS]

00:08:34   the way to as a giant staff opens but [TS]

00:08:35   again off the White has things to [TS]

00:08:38   recommend off the white is boring he's [TS]

00:08:40   too powerful guess when she's beautiful [TS]

00:08:42   and get off the grace to Bigfoot bigger [TS]

00:08:44   hippie yeah I love Gandalf the Grey he's [TS]

00:08:47   got character homespun close smokes a [TS]

00:08:49   lot of pot he's got he's got a fireworks [TS]

00:08:52   on the side he lives off of this like [TS]

00:08:54   okay [TS]

00:08:55   Gandalf the White has an important job [TS]

00:08:56   to do again dealing with geopolitics and [TS]

00:08:58   important Bigfoot off and get off the [TS]

00:09:00   great just want to hang out with [TS]

00:09:01   hobbits he's the Hillary Clinton of the [TS]

00:09:03   shower using his fireworks are neither [TS]

00:09:05   safe nor say Mandy the Wizards are [TS]

00:09:07   fascinating thing I think in the books [TS]

00:09:08   too because unless you read in the [TS]

00:09:10   background material they make no sense [TS]

00:09:12   in the books other like yeah we came out [TS]

00:09:14   of the west and we've been here a long [TS]

00:09:15   time and yep that's it we got some [TS]

00:09:17   amount of power but not tell you what [TS]

00:09:18   it's like I started reading the [TS]

00:09:20   wikipedia entry on the wizards and holy [TS]

00:09:22   crap is that confusing really the best [TS]

00:09:24   surgeon in a book in the book I get the [TS]

00:09:27   sense that the Wizards you know in in [TS]

00:09:30   the book they say the Wizards are not [TS]

00:09:31   humans [TS]

00:09:32   the Wizards are not writing the Wizards [TS]

00:09:33   our own rather race of of of people and [TS]

00:09:36   in the movies [TS]

00:09:37   it's just like the Wizards are guys with [TS]

00:09:39   powers right they're all there just [TS]

00:09:40   magic guys where they live forever and [TS]

00:09:44   they know their thousands of years old [TS]

00:09:45   and their powers are incredibly [TS]

00:09:47   inconsistent like you're half the time [TS]

00:09:49   you're like Gandalf do just like Wizard [TS]

00:09:50   this you know with this crap to take [TS]

00:09:52   care of it but he can whisper to the [TS]

00:09:54   butterfly which then works great Chinese [TS]

00:09:57   equals a damn hippie way you think he's [TS]

00:09:59   a pretty badass and then like you know [TS]

00:10:00   the than the witch-king shows up at the [TS]

00:10:02   end is like I'm gonna break her staff [TS]

00:10:04   can explore that a Booma no man can [TS]

00:10:07   defeat him then that was assured i had [TS]

00:10:10   to have a lot of progress that i read [TS]

00:10:12   that in Macbeth the fields of pellet [TS]

00:10:14   very nice the fields of Pellinor will [TS]

00:10:15   also in the trees from tons of Maine [TS]

00:10:17   woods [TS]

00:10:18   yeah that sounds amazing right the trees [TS]

00:10:20   come I don't know man born of woman man [TS]

00:10:23   born of woman in the trees will come to [TS]

00:10:25   forget what this is for Shakespeare [TS]

00:10:27   podcast save that for no no it's in the [TS]

00:10:28   believe it the home steep the trees come [TS]

00:10:31   to the home steep so it's just like [TS]

00:10:34   mcbath I'm sorry it's the trees of [TS]

00:10:36   burning wood come towards Dunsinane just [TS]

00:10:38   to get it right sign Shakespeare fans [TS]

00:10:41   are gonna be I know what any of them [TS]

00:10:43   hey I I got an idea let's talk about the [TS]

00:10:46   performances in this movie a good idea [TS]

00:10:48   Jason John Syracuse's suggested that i [TS]

00:10:50   do that that's a wonderful idea [TS]

00:10:53   it is John do you want to talk about the [TS]

00:10:54   performances together started when [TS]

00:10:56   you've got people in roles like this [TS]

00:10:58   like that the script for the most part [TS]

00:11:00   is set down like they're gonna have to [TS]

00:11:02   say what they're gonna have to say it's [TS]

00:11:04   going to be Lord of the Rings stuff even [TS]

00:11:06   the lines aren't right from the book [TS]

00:11:07   there's no really getting around the [TS]

00:11:08   fact [TS]

00:11:09   you're going to talk about magic and use [TS]

00:11:10   lots of weird words & hobbies are going [TS]

00:11:12   to talk about habits so it's like it's [TS]

00:11:13   what you do with the material we talked [TS]

00:11:15   about like you know Han Solo you know [TS]

00:11:17   saying laugh it up fuzzball and you can [TS]

00:11:18   sell that line is not a well-written [TS]

00:11:20   line but you know he could sell it and I [TS]

00:11:23   so I'm judging these people by how well [TS]

00:11:24   did you sell the kind of silly sounding [TS]

00:11:29   out of context Swiss cheese lines that [TS]

00:11:32   you were given did i believe your [TS]

00:11:33   performance um I'm not let you guys talk [TS]

00:11:35   about who you thought but I just want to [TS]

00:11:36   start with my least favorite performance [TS]

00:11:38   in the entire series this is kind of a [TS]

00:11:40   shame because he is the main character [TS]

00:11:41   Elijah Wood operatic I do not like him [TS]

00:11:44   totally agree i do not know how does a [TS]

00:11:46   good job at destroido I he's not a bad [TS]

00:11:49   actor he does his best with what he's [TS]

00:11:52   given but he just does not read this [TS]

00:11:54   photo to me and I don't know why he just [TS]

00:11:57   doesn't it's not it's not that it's not [TS]

00:11:59   that he for me something he was bad it's [TS]

00:12:01   just that he was not my feet up in a [TS]

00:12:03   movie weather so many characters that [TS]

00:12:06   actors that really managed to nail [TS]

00:12:07   things with Elijah Wood the only thing [TS]

00:12:10   that I didn't like is that ok he's gonna [TS]

00:12:12   get the easy at some point he reaches [TS]

00:12:14   down deep inside and he flips that [TS]

00:12:16   switch is ok and time to get my browser [TS]

00:12:18   my eyes and I'm looking at this and I'm [TS]

00:12:21   going to get my brows another one of my [TS]

00:12:23   scouts that he's got it Sam expression [TS]

00:12:25   he's got his ring expression like it and [TS]

00:12:27   the reason i really like him because he [TS]

00:12:29   has the he has the pivotal scene in the [TS]

00:12:31   entire movie where he changes his mind [TS]

00:12:32   about the ring and by that point I was [TS]

00:12:34   like I just shot on here I don't believe [TS]

00:12:37   that you've changed your mind or that [TS]

00:12:39   you've struggled with this ring at all [TS]

00:12:40   it's so heavy oh is it [TS]

00:12:42   I mean it's just he just and it really [TS]

00:12:44   really hurts me because that part of the [TS]

00:12:46   books sam and frodo going through more [TS]

00:12:47   on doing that thing works for me in the [TS]

00:12:49   book and I don't like him in the movie [TS]

00:12:52   I don't know if I agree with that [TS]

00:12:53   entirely i think that he and sean astin [TS]

00:12:55   managed to pull out some some otherwise [TS]

00:12:57   some scenes that we've all agreed are [TS]

00:12:59   kind of dull and boring you know it yes [TS]

00:13:01   he's not he's not giving the most [TS]

00:13:03   interesting material to work with and [TS]

00:13:04   his role is basically that of martyr for [TS]

00:13:06   the second two books especially [TS]

00:13:08   pronounced Mordor no way at the bottom [TS]

00:13:11   are thorns [TS]

00:13:13   for everybody he does he has he only has [TS]

00:13:16   he's like the kristen stewart in this [TS]

00:13:18   movie he only had a few naughty Matt's [TS]

00:13:20   pretty that's pretty rough man you may [TS]

00:13:22   already be seeing have just one [TS]

00:13:24   expression he's like 4 i'm gonna agree I [TS]

00:13:26   agree with John i was so tired I'd [TS]

00:13:27   forgotten and i don't think i'd watch [TS]

00:13:29   the whole sequence for a couple years [TS]

00:13:31   and I forgotten how much I just blank [TS]

00:13:33   out on Elijah Wood ways instead on [TS]

00:13:35   screen because he's got the sloggi [TS]

00:13:37   scenes and he's just I don't know I its [TS]

00:13:40   photo is stronger in the books and I [TS]

00:13:42   think it works but it has to be strong [TS]

00:13:43   enough yeah because you have to see his [TS]

00:13:45   strength away from you have to see him [TS]

00:13:47   lose instead of Weathertop he [TS]

00:13:49   practically gives up the fight or his [TS]

00:13:51   eyes rolled back in his head again and [TS]

00:13:52   he puts the ring on your like if it's [TS]

00:13:54   that easy he doesn't get to Mordor you [TS]

00:13:56   just seem awfully weak and that scene [TS]

00:13:57   right yeah and and the two of them like [TS]

00:14:00   Sam Sam holds up his weight more than [TS]

00:14:02   Frodo and the same photo relationship in [TS]

00:14:04   the movie but even I mean he does his [TS]

00:14:06   gimmick his performance a little gamey [TS]

00:14:08   to what's-his-name sean astin anybody [TS]

00:14:10   does better than photo of the two of [TS]

00:14:12   them like they're they're such a tough [TS]

00:14:14   little like tough little plumbers and in [TS]

00:14:17   the book and in the movies they're just [TS]

00:14:19   two guys so so whatever so who's your [TS]

00:14:23   favorite I'm not favorite performances [TS]

00:14:25   from other people [TS]

00:14:26   I'd say favorite is a I think Viggo [TS]

00:14:28   Mortensen oh yeah I loved him sir he [TS]

00:14:31   certainly commits to that role yet again [TS]

00:14:33   that is that he had that man is a method [TS]

00:14:35   actor like he is he's like a Daniel [TS]

00:14:36   day-lewis right like I think he just [TS]

00:14:38   totally he totally embraces it totally [TS]

00:14:40   rolls with it LOL i wouldn't go Daniel [TS]

00:14:42   day-lewis maybe I'm just saying I i [TS]

00:14:45   think i think from an element of you [TS]

00:14:47   know you're talking about people who can [TS]

00:14:48   spew nonsense and sound like it's [TS]

00:14:50   actually they're actually talking about [TS]

00:14:51   something real [TS]

00:14:52   I think he does a great job with a role [TS]

00:14:54   that as a ton of jargon and yet he looks [TS]

00:14:56   like he just completely believes in it [TS]

00:14:59   but Peter Jackson decided that he was [TS]

00:15:01   the most relatable character essentially [TS]

00:15:03   for mainstream audiences in action [TS]

00:15:05   fantasy movie and and and so you know [TS]

00:15:09   aragorn's like the main character of the [TS]

00:15:11   movie in many ways hehe has I think he [TS]

00:15:14   doesn't have the weight the emotional [TS]

00:15:15   weight of of photos journey but he has [TS]

00:15:18   much more to do throughout is more [TS]

00:15:21   boring in the book that isn't [TS]

00:15:22   yeah he's very tedious in the book it's [TS]

00:15:25   a decision I mean when they decided to [TS]

00:15:27   make this make these movies and have the [TS]

00:15:29   big action scenes and all of that you [TS]

00:15:31   know the decision is that one through [TS]

00:15:33   line will be Frodo and Sam in the ring [TS]

00:15:35   and and column and the other one is the [TS]

00:15:37   the awesome adventures of a record right [TS]

00:15:40   and and and i think Viggo Mortensen does [TS]

00:15:43   a great job he does have a little bit of [TS]

00:15:44   personal struggle to like to give them a [TS]

00:15:46   little bit of personal struggle with [TS]

00:15:48   like do I want this crown and like do I [TS]

00:15:50   want to change i'll hit my elbow [TS]

00:15:51   girlfriend will do they even put him [TS]

00:15:54   puts the hand over the ring which I [TS]

00:15:55   don't think it happens in the at the end [TS]

00:15:58   of fellowship I don't think aragorn [TS]

00:15:59   never directly confront taking the ring [TS]

00:16:02   and he does not think it's a great [TS]

00:16:03   little if it's in addition which i think [TS]

00:16:05   it is it's a great little bit where he [TS]

00:16:07   everyone is obliged to come to confront [TS]

00:16:09   the ring in the movie [TS]

00:16:10   not everyone is obliged to the books to [TS]

00:16:12   say that's not mine i have its put in [TS]

00:16:15   front of me you know fair mirrors [TS]

00:16:16   rejection is very critical obviously but [TS]

00:16:19   aragorn's in the movie i think it's just [TS]

00:16:21   the same he took his chance he said ok [TS]

00:16:23   let's go to go away and moves on to his [TS]

00:16:25   own story [TS]

00:16:26   well and I think you give the fact that [TS]

00:16:28   they do a good job of though he is you [TS]

00:16:29   know a good-looking guy he also comes [TS]

00:16:31   across with it a certain amount of [TS]

00:16:32   menace and over cute especially in his [TS]

00:16:35   introduction [TS]

00:16:36   there's a certain amount of you know [TS]

00:16:37   scariness German I remember I remember [TS]

00:16:39   watching the the trailer for the first [TS]

00:16:42   time and i was looking at me like I was [TS]

00:16:44   kind of rough in my friend Jen who is [TS]

00:16:45   like dyed-in-the-wool diehard Lord of [TS]

00:16:48   the Rings fan was like come on all that [TS]

00:16:50   is gold does not glitter which is the [TS]

00:16:52   the target line from the from the other [TS]

00:16:54   poem and I think Viggo does a good job [TS]

00:16:56   of also selling the fact that that [TS]

00:16:59   aragorn in the movies is a competent [TS]

00:17:01   warfighter my keys [TS]

00:17:03   he's able he's he's he's not like a [TS]

00:17:05   pretty boy like like some people he [TS]

00:17:08   sells the fact that this guy is this is [TS]

00:17:09   the guy who would be dangerous with a [TS]

00:17:11   sword because he's been using a sword [TS]

00:17:12   his entire life and you don't want to [TS]

00:17:14   get into a fight with him like I really [TS]

00:17:16   believe the heel and it's not ceremonial [TS]

00:17:18   right that he is the match of five works [TS]

00:17:20   i totally buy that from his performance [TS]

00:17:22   because he's so severe and you know [TS]

00:17:24   seriously everybody that he is a little [TS]

00:17:26   bit goes into a little bit of [TS]

00:17:27   self-parody but again the things he has [TS]

00:17:28   to say those wonderful line that [TS]

00:17:30   wonderful 12 that I think is directly [TS]

00:17:32   from the books which is I think he would [TS]

00:17:33   look you know I don't think he's an [TS]

00:17:35   agent more [TS]

00:17:36   barbie is a tricky would it look they [TS]

00:17:38   would look fairer and seen Fowler yep [TS]

00:17:40   that's line right i think it's also [TS]

00:17:42   right from the book at it they drop [TS]

00:17:43   those in there and sometimes it's like [TS]

00:17:44   oh wait hey that talking i had a way [TS]

00:17:46   with words out back to the script so so [TS]

00:17:48   might my pick for a and I was just [TS]

00:17:51   trying to think who do I think is the [TS]

00:17:52   best performance in this in this movie [TS]

00:17:54   i'm super nerd he'll as made and I think [TS]

00:17:58   partially this is because he's got a [TS]

00:17:59   really interesting story arc that he [TS]

00:18:02   begins this kind of he's been enchanted [TS]

00:18:05   by Wormtongue and he's all confused and [TS]

00:18:07   all but I i get the sense with him that [TS]

00:18:09   he has a you know he has a lot that he [TS]

00:18:12   has to think about and that i really [TS]

00:18:14   like that he he's a good man but he's [TS]

00:18:17   got a lot of responsibilities and he's [TS]

00:18:19   not entirely sure that the request that [TS]

00:18:22   everybody else is going is the bet he [TS]

00:18:24   has to be convinced that it's the best [TS]

00:18:26   thing for his kingdom because he's [TS]

00:18:28   concerned he knows what his job is he [TS]

00:18:30   receives resigned to death twice in this [TS]

00:18:32   ya series of movies once at helm's deep [TS]

00:18:33   and then he can and he agrees after that [TS]

00:18:36   say alright I'll go down with us other [TS]

00:18:37   place [TS]

00:18:38   yeah yeah and it's a it's a really [TS]

00:18:40   interesting character you know he's not [TS]

00:18:41   one of the main characters but you get [TS]

00:18:43   that sense of weight that this is a man [TS]

00:18:44   who you know first off he had this [TS]

00:18:46   terrible you know enchantment thing [TS]

00:18:48   happened to him but that he was a good [TS]

00:18:50   man before he's a good man again he's [TS]

00:18:52   really concerned about his people [TS]

00:18:54   he's skeptical of the whole the [TS]

00:18:56   obviously the relationship between Rohan [TS]

00:18:59   and Gondor has cooled over the years [TS]

00:19:02   right so he's like why should we [TS]

00:19:03   you know why should we take care of [TS]

00:19:04   Gondor if they don't they don't take [TS]

00:19:06   care of us [TS]

00:19:06   it's just it's a really interesting [TS]

00:19:07   performance and yes indeed he dies at [TS]

00:19:09   the end inter said and there isn't a [TS]

00:19:12   field and works I think it's because [TS]

00:19:13   unlike Gondor of Rohan is populated [TS]

00:19:16   gatineau in unison Gondor but it's like [TS]

00:19:19   it's like you know / DC it's like a [TS]

00:19:21   bunch of monuments but then I guess [TS]

00:19:22   tourists in ghost town is in the [TS]

00:19:24   mountains that strip for fair point in [TS]

00:19:26   the movies that was the weirdest thing [TS]

00:19:28   is given that they could have populated [TS]

00:19:29   stuff with CGI yonder has enormous [TS]

00:19:31   population is shrunken but Rohan has [TS]

00:19:34   fewer number of people but in the movies [TS]

00:19:36   they portrayed it as if Gondor was [TS]

00:19:38   totally depopulated which was alright [TS]

00:19:40   and that's why you feel about the [TS]

00:19:41   identities like he's he's responsible [TS]

00:19:43   for all these people they're all looking [TS]

00:19:44   to him and is on there on this week's [TS]

00:19:45   web tail and it's cold and they're all [TS]

00:19:47   die and you know we're gonna go to this [TS]

00:19:49   this keep and just hope the orcs don't [TS]

00:19:51   tell us in the night and you know i like [TS]

00:19:54   that performance I you know if there's a [TS]

00:19:55   lot of dignity and and and just wait to [TS]

00:19:59   to that character that I really like and [TS]

00:20:01   I'm reminded I'm surprised by watching [TS]

00:20:03   something know right because he's just [TS]

00:20:05   suppose with john noble who has a who [TS]

00:20:07   has a a tougher task if his just chewing [TS]

00:20:10   the scenery and you know I like John [TS]

00:20:12   Noble and some fringe and it's great [TS]

00:20:14   mall but you compare his his his his [TS]

00:20:17   stuff to Bernard hill it's like I'm [TS]

00:20:19   always pleasantly surprised by fade and [TS]

00:20:21   what an interesting and and [TS]

00:20:22   multi-dimensional character is that he's [TS]

00:20:24   a little more time you he does get more [TS]

00:20:26   time and he gets more time where he's [TS]

00:20:28   not completely just crazy and what [TS]

00:20:32   you're suggesting you wouldn't set [TS]

00:20:33   himself on fire and throw himself off [TS]

00:20:34   the wall it so it is actually rare in [TS]

00:20:37   lots of movies it's rare to see somebody [TS]

00:20:39   who you can tell that they that this [TS]

00:20:42   character has their own motivations and [TS]

00:20:44   they may be a cross purposes with a plot [TS]

00:20:46   and the characters that we like in the [TS]

00:20:48   movie and it's not that they're a [TS]

00:20:49   villain it's just that they they aren't [TS]

00:20:52   motivated in the same way and they have [TS]

00:20:54   to work out what they really think about [TS]

00:20:56   what's going on in that they didn't [TS]

00:20:58   really does that and Bernard healthcare [TS]

00:20:59   set off so I can get a really great [TS]

00:21:00   character his character is in this [TS]

00:21:03   product I think this is where Bernard [TS]

00:21:04   helped raise him so well and I think the [TS]

00:21:05   script serves and well is he's a man [TS]

00:21:09   he's a king is a leader but he's a man [TS]

00:21:11   among what he seems as you know God's [TS]

00:21:12   and legends there's the wizard there's [TS]

00:21:14   hobbits and elves and you know god no [TS]

00:21:16   then there's you know the the return of [TS]

00:21:18   the king is the guy who is the direct [TS]

00:21:19   descendant man of n├║menor this whole [TS]

00:21:21   thing in the book and then Bernard [TS]

00:21:22   humanize that's like he's like I don't [TS]

00:21:25   even know if I'm worthy to be mentioned [TS]

00:21:27   among you know my predecessors and he [TS]

00:21:29   finds that in himself even though you [TS]

00:21:32   know because he needs to for his people [TS]

00:21:33   it's a great job other other [TS]

00:21:36   performances to praise from people [TS]

00:21:38   cate blanchett i love k planchette [TS]

00:21:40   didn't she do all four scenes in in like [TS]

00:21:43   with the camera sped up so that they're [TS]

00:21:44   in slow motion no did she really she [TS]

00:21:47   doesn't actually talk like is that they [TS]

00:21:51   actually the way the way they shot for [TS]

00:21:52   seems to make her seem kind of ethereal [TS]

00:21:54   is a shot at with the camera running a [TS]

00:21:56   higher frame rate and slowed it down and [TS]

00:21:58   then she read up your dialogue but that [TS]

00:22:00   the whole idea was to make [TS]

00:22:01   seemed almost like out of step from [TS]

00:22:03   everybody else and that's why she's all [TS]

00:22:05   but what's funny [TS]

00:22:06   so what I'll say about that character is [TS]

00:22:08   she's pulled their couple scenes that I [TS]

00:22:11   really like i like where she she [TS]

00:22:13   basically says if i take the ring I you [TS]

00:22:15   know you think I'm all pretty and [TS]

00:22:16   wonderful but i would be a terrible [TS]

00:22:17   terrible we were right the end she also [TS]

00:22:21   gives her her scene with gimli where [TS]

00:22:24   he's you know talk about stupid else [TS]

00:22:26   they don't know and then he stole my [TS]

00:22:27   lady you're so beautiful and she gives [TS]

00:22:29   him [TS]

00:22:30   it turns out she gives him 13 her hair's [TS]

00:22:34   me he asks he asks for it that's what he [TS]

00:22:37   wants when he was one she gives him [TS]

00:22:38   three right but that that's really sweet [TS]

00:22:40   scene and it's funny because it that [TS]

00:22:42   character [TS]

00:22:43   those are the little notes that you get [TS]

00:22:45   that fill out that character because she [TS]

00:22:47   doesn't have a lot to do i also see from [TS]

00:22:49   for me as a super geek well it you know [TS]

00:22:51   an electric performance quite a bit i [TS]

00:22:53   thought they may try to to put her in I [TS]

00:22:55   mean she becomes the connective tissue [TS]

00:22:57   and then issues a narrator for the [TS]

00:22:59   opening bit and fellowship of the rings [TS]

00:23:00   which is and they use her character [TS]

00:23:03   better i think to enhance the fact that [TS]

00:23:04   there's no more than one woman in the [TS]

00:23:06   movies which is hard to see Chiefs all [TS]

00:23:09   over the place and using a bit in the [TS]

00:23:11   hobbit I think that way there are three [TS]

00:23:12   as well there are three words for there [TS]

00:23:14   are three wins a win [TS]

00:23:15   galadriel and our went up our when live [TS]

00:23:20   for one and uh but I thought I thought [TS]

00:23:23   she got the tone just right is that [TS]

00:23:25   there's this odd thing about the elves [TS]

00:23:27   have reserved essentially three kingdoms [TS]

00:23:30   we only see two of them and where [TS]

00:23:32   everything is in the past they should [TS]

00:23:34   rivendell that way they shoot shoot my [TS]

00:23:38   camera team of it they shoot lorien that [TS]

00:23:41   way as well or in that it looks like [TS]

00:23:43   it's out of keeping and they make her [TS]

00:23:45   even more ethereal but then she's [TS]

00:23:47   brought the earth she's given that [TS]

00:23:48   moment and I thought planets performance [TS]

00:23:51   of that was great as a super geek super [TS]

00:23:53   talking pan that is something that is [TS]

00:23:55   deeply rooted that moment is traced back [TS]

00:23:57   when she turns down the ring is traced [TS]

00:23:59   back to practically the the early [TS]

00:24:01   history that token set in that she's a [TS]

00:24:04   descendant of you know someone who [TS]

00:24:06   basically caused the elves to leave who [TS]

00:24:08   allowed the great evil to come in the [TS]

00:24:10   middle earth and her moment of rejecting [TS]

00:24:12   that in the book is one of the key [TS]

00:24:14   moments I think [TS]

00:24:15   he played the scene well I think she [TS]

00:24:16   played it well and it comes across as [TS]

00:24:18   being something more than just know she [TS]

00:24:20   turned on the ring like everybody else [TS]

00:24:21   does I will diminish that's what she [TS]

00:24:24   says this [TS]

00:24:24   yes she's gonna go in the West going to [TS]

00:24:26   the west and remain Galadriel another [TS]

00:24:28   example of you passed the test [TS]

00:24:30   I feel like we skipped override and [TS]

00:24:32   miquelon who i think i dont i love i [TS]

00:24:35   love his performances get off to me he [TS]

00:24:37   is he's now you know forever burned in [TS]

00:24:40   my mind as Gandalf he is the best [TS]

00:24:42   headmaster of Hogwarts has ever had [TS]

00:24:44   so you are your ways are we got [TS]

00:24:47   criticism i want to know I i think is [TS]

00:24:49   great scandal is fantastic [TS]

00:24:51   he's great i mean i know that was one of [TS]

00:24:52   my moments of concern when you know they [TS]

00:24:54   started talking about filming The Hobbit [TS]

00:24:55   was like well Jesus you know because you [TS]

00:24:58   have someone else do this could you have [TS]

00:24:59   someone else play Gandalf and I feel [TS]

00:25:01   like for me it would have been it would [TS]

00:25:04   have been weird it would like he's just [TS]

00:25:06   so identified with that character in my [TS]

00:25:07   head there's another great job of of [TS]

00:25:09   inhabiting a character and arguably two [TS]

00:25:12   characters depending on how you view [TS]

00:25:13   grande off again off the gray and [TS]

00:25:15   Gandalf the White he regenerates it's [TS]

00:25:17   very doctor who yeah help it but it [TS]

00:25:19   doesn't you may he manages to do a good [TS]

00:25:21   job of keeping of keeping them distinct [TS]

00:25:24   well yet clearly the same character it [TS]

00:25:27   would have been a shame if he wasn't [TS]

00:25:28   able to do the hobbit and michael gambon [TS]

00:25:30   had to step in but you know no he it's [TS]

00:25:35   great it's a great performance and I ido [TS]

00:25:39   point I'm glad it was Christopher Lee a [TS]

00:25:41   sarah man and and not Patrick Stewart [TS]

00:25:43   because again i would be confused with [TS]

00:25:44   other movies but it's a great it's a [TS]

00:25:47   great performance and it's funny because [TS]

00:25:48   he's been in all the genres stuff nobody [TS]

00:25:50   is he's a great actor and you want that [TS]

00:25:52   he got older English you know English [TS]

00:25:55   experian actor with a lot of gravitas [TS]

00:25:57   and yet and he has that and he also has [TS]

00:25:59   all those really nice funny light [TS]

00:26:02   touches as the gandalf the grey before [TS]

00:26:04   he gets the staff up is but it's very [TS]

00:26:06   warm and he has a couple someone in the [TS]

00:26:08   chatroom pointed out the he gets a [TS]

00:26:10   couple good lines and as Gandalf the [TS]

00:26:12   White including in return of the king [TS]

00:26:14   the don't say anything about aragorn or [TS]

00:26:17   anything about the ring actually don't [TS]

00:26:20   really say anything at all so the joss [TS]

00:26:21   whedon dialogue section of the movie i [TS]

00:26:24   know we're not talking about The Hobbit [TS]

00:26:25   but there is a very little fun [TS]

00:26:26   moment which is he goes into Bilbo's [TS]

00:26:29   front parlor and knocks his head into [TS]

00:26:31   the the chandelier area just like he [TS]

00:26:34   does and I was like oh that's cute like [TS]

00:26:36   you're making sure we're watching that [TS]

00:26:37   we saw the other movies said alright I [TS]

00:26:39   like a lot like Christopher Lee too [TS]

00:26:40   although for a very different reason [TS]

00:26:42   because he's he's like just awesome [TS]

00:26:45   I think we're the reasons in mcallen [TS]

00:26:46   come up is because he's so good in the [TS]

00:26:48   role I don't even think of him as ian [TS]

00:26:51   mckellen yeah i mean i was thinking like [TS]

00:26:52   an added to its about a little portray [TS]

00:26:55   and don't know you don't stand back from [TS]

00:26:56   and go here enter the URL that's just [TS]

00:26:59   his that's what that's what happens when [TS]

00:27:00   you have an actress selling the lines [TS]

00:27:02   like I gave you my least favorite one [TS]

00:27:03   was Elijah Wood i'm not sure if he would [TS]

00:27:06   be my favorite but he's close because he [TS]

00:27:07   has to say ridiculous things to a he [TS]

00:27:09   manages to say every single one of them [TS]

00:27:11   and like in a way that's perfectly [TS]

00:27:13   fitting with the character when he [TS]

00:27:14   supposed to be like a rascal who loves [TS]

00:27:15   hobbits you totally if his rascally was [TS]

00:27:17   Earl of time between has to be dignified [TS]

00:27:18   and Gandalf the White you believe him in [TS]

00:27:20   that rolling at every stage like that [TS]

00:27:22   doesn't seem like he's playing a role we [TS]

00:27:24   don't we don't see his acting even when [TS]

00:27:26   he says that crazy thing in Moorea which [TS]

00:27:28   is a great scene one of the many great [TS]

00:27:29   scenes was like I am the keeper of the [TS]

00:27:31   secret flame I let you know you totally [TS]

00:27:33   buy it which is not and then he does it [TS]

00:27:35   but you're like it's actually it's you [TS]

00:27:36   know that he's in the book you just like [TS]

00:27:38   coast of canada says in the movie he [TS]

00:27:40   sells it as he is reinforcing his own [TS]

00:27:42   believe he has to remind himself who he [TS]

00:27:45   is and then just to be able in the book [TS]

00:27:46   in the lines are fly you fools [TS]

00:27:48   he says it like wow that was great it's [TS]

00:27:51   actually only that line still get a [TS]

00:27:53   chill out such a great thing as a good [TS]

00:27:55   actor he has a bright future in the [TS]

00:27:57   industry i feel like he does and in the [TS]

00:27:59   even the beginning when he's talking to [TS]

00:28:01   Bilbo about the ring and you know Bilbo [TS]

00:28:05   tries to keep it for a bit and you know [TS]

00:28:07   where to use is afraid Gandalf is going [TS]

00:28:08   to try to steal the ring for many does [TS]

00:28:10   the whole draw himself up Bilbo Baggins [TS]

00:28:13   right thats great lot of your country [TS]

00:28:18   yeah we have other other positive things [TS]

00:28:20   before we go back go back to the [TS]

00:28:21   negative the pound-for-pound to your [TS]

00:28:24   presentation because the volunteers are [TS]

00:28:25   ridiculous device in the books i had to [TS]

00:28:28   do a lot of pausing to explain those [TS]

00:28:30   things like well because ok so there's [TS]

00:28:33   magic in the books and there's lots of [TS]

00:28:34   people being able to have [TS]

00:28:36   visions and larger reality can see afar [TS]

00:28:38   and they cut the secret Elvis rings like [TS]

00:28:41   all this you know stuff permeating in [TS]

00:28:43   the great eye of sauron can cast design [TS]

00:28:45   see so there's all of this sort of [TS]

00:28:47   far-seeing already but the palantir is [TS]

00:28:49   the closest thing to like technology [TS]

00:28:50   unlike the internet yeah they've got [TS]

00:28:52   Wi-Fi on those crystal globe and that is [TS]

00:28:55   it really is is very internetting is [TS]

00:28:57   that it's a party-line dangerous party [TS]

00:28:59   line that's more like a security camera [TS]

00:29:01   this is this my first time I my first [TS]

00:29:04   time watching the movies since reading [TS]

00:29:07   dark tower and of course i said for John [TS]

00:29:09   i started to give black 13 immediately [TS]

00:29:11   which I had never made that connection [TS]

00:29:13   before I don't [TS]

00:29:15   yeah it's like it's like we said all [TS]

00:29:17   these things that seem like there have [TS]

00:29:19   been done before i thinkyeah in nineteen [TS]

00:29:21   world could write exactly make much much [TS]

00:29:23   later whatever clearly o modules do that [TS]

00:29:25   but yeah well the but the the palantir I [TS]

00:29:27   think the way they use them in the movie [TS]

00:29:29   was more effective [TS]

00:29:30   I mean obviously you can do it visually [TS]

00:29:31   I understand that but even the way that [TS]

00:29:33   I picture them being used that was sort [TS]

00:29:35   of i have to say my own imagination was [TS]

00:29:36   blender then what they did in the film [TS]

00:29:39   where they used you know they're sort of [TS]

00:29:41   burning flames of and they showed so [TS]

00:29:44   having kind of hijack the network more [TS]

00:29:47   effectively to is the original hacker he [TS]

00:29:49   hijacked that palantir network and [TS]

00:29:50   turned into his own ends but it's it's a [TS]

00:29:53   more effective thing you can't do like [TS]

00:29:55   in the books in any book at a magical [TS]

00:29:57   item you can you can imbue a boring [TS]

00:30:01   physical item with incredible medicine [TS]

00:30:02   and import and the only reason the movie [TS]

00:30:05   is visually unless you have narration [TS]

00:30:07   because you can't spend an hour talking [TS]

00:30:08   about the monitory Lian Yu [TS]

00:30:11   I know but like it's not you have to [TS]

00:30:13   change it for the movie like to convey [TS]

00:30:14   the same sense of power i think you can [TS]

00:30:16   get a lot of like again with the dark [TS]

00:30:18   tower there's a lot of things in and [TS]

00:30:19   stephen king books for example that have [TS]

00:30:21   incredible menace to them and visually [TS]

00:30:25   there's nothing interesting about that [TS]

00:30:26   because it's all about the description [TS]

00:30:28   and the the effects they have on the the [TS]

00:30:30   internal mental dialogue with people [TS]

00:30:31   that you just don't hear in movies well [TS]

00:30:32   and in some ways you know the I mean a [TS]

00:30:34   good counter examples of that is the [TS]

00:30:36   ring right like which is you know that [TS]

00:30:38   it has on visual effects in movies too [TS]

00:30:40   but yeah it does but that's not the [TS]

00:30:42   important part like that's so little of [TS]

00:30:44   the time that you see the ring on screen [TS]

00:30:46   i think is devoted to its effects are [TS]

00:30:48   it's you know it's special presidency [TS]

00:30:50   it's the the effect it has on the people [TS]

00:30:52   who carry it and people around it and [TS]

00:30:54   what makes them do i think is is far [TS]

00:30:56   more interesting as a as an artifact [TS]

00:30:58   right I can I say that a I know it's a [TS]

00:31:01   thankless part but Liv Tyler not only is [TS]

00:31:04   she the person who if you see your [TS]

00:31:05   on-screen you can go to the bathroom if [TS]

00:31:07   you're in the theater or even if you're [TS]

00:31:08   not in the theater on your couch chicken [TS]

00:31:13   arguing about the right now someone's [TS]

00:31:14   someone's watching it somewhere in the [TS]

00:31:16   world we posit no don't just let it [TS]

00:31:18   right slamming on Dan mentioned on a [TS]

00:31:20   recent podcasts that when m night [TS]

00:31:22   shyamalan's name came up in the screen [TS]

00:31:23   everybody boo'd 000 times that I saw [TS]

00:31:27   fellowship of believers out twice and [TS]

00:31:28   they're both times I saw in the theater [TS]

00:31:29   when Liv Tyler appears on the screen [TS]

00:31:31   everybody laughed and it's just because [TS]

00:31:33   like at that particular moment in time [TS]

00:31:35   when that movie was put out she was in [TS]

00:31:37   that particular place in pop culture [TS]

00:31:38   that seeing her as an like people [TS]

00:31:41   because he was overexposed it's like oh [TS]

00:31:43   it's live yeah and that laugh both times [TS]

00:31:46   when she when she appeared which is a [TS]

00:31:47   shame because it's not a bad performance [TS]

00:31:49   she does she does find it's just that it [TS]

00:31:51   was she just happened to be in that [TS]

00:31:52   place in pop culture that we couldn't [TS]

00:31:55   buy her is that person was great [TS]

00:31:57   it's a thankless performance though it's [TS]

00:31:59   a thankless reports because she she has [TS]

00:32:01   nothing to do and I don't think she's a [TS]

00:32:04   very good actress either so I don't [TS]

00:32:05   think she's a bad actors I don't think [TS]

00:32:07   she's even bad in this movie it's just [TS]

00:32:09   the subject matter is not it's not a [TS]

00:32:11   very good actress but that's the black [TS]

00:32:13   hole smoothie went with that because [TS]

00:32:15   that is a plot that I mean that that's [TS]

00:32:17   where it feels calculated to me it's [TS]

00:32:19   like we don't have it we need more [TS]

00:32:20   female characters we need two more [TS]

00:32:21   romantic elements we're gonna put in [TS]

00:32:23   this subplot up about their relationship [TS]

00:32:26   the flash-forward scene with their [TS]

00:32:27   babies and the his coffin and everything [TS]

00:32:30   I like that that was that that scene i [TS]

00:32:32   liked right there trying to add to the [TS]

00:32:34   movies that we have to have for [TS]

00:32:35   something to do [TS]

00:32:36   okay we can't just have to show up at [TS]

00:32:38   the end anyway we're married now it's [TS]

00:32:40   like who the hell is this [TS]

00:32:41   that's what I'm doing the book [TS]

00:32:43   practically that was like a nose like a [TS]

00:32:44   minority report moment where it's like [TS]

00:32:46   in the future if you stay you know he [TS]

00:32:49   gets married he has a job [TS]

00:32:50   oh my god i just always pictured the [TS]

00:32:52   voice-over of the part where the kid [TS]

00:32:53   wearing the necklace is like totally [TS]

00:32:55   story the elf stuff where it feels like [TS]

00:32:58   the old stuff you know again with with [TS]

00:33:00   with galadriel a [TS]

00:33:02   it feels like she's underwater in your [TS]

00:33:04   underwater and it's all this weird slow [TS]

00:33:06   kind of strange feeling that they do [TS]

00:33:09   that with Liv Tyler too and it just [TS]

00:33:10   feels like I'm being smothered to death [TS]

00:33:12   because you can't carry cate blanchett [TS]

00:33:14   can carry that often live Todd cannot [TS]

00:33:15   yeah yeah exactly right and so you know [TS]

00:33:18   it's not her fault and yet that that for [TS]

00:33:20   me I so I i guess not the performance [TS]

00:33:22   but the character and also good when [TS]

00:33:24   she's on the horse with a sword i buy [TS]

00:33:26   that are young 19 year old looking elf [TS]

00:33:29   under on you know it's one hell of an [TS]

00:33:30   entrance when they raided an enchanted [TS]

00:33:32   grotto in in it you know in orange is [TS]

00:33:36   wanting to her daddy that she wants to [TS]

00:33:37   date the boy that she wants to date like [TS]

00:33:39   it's too much of a cross over here all [TS]

00:33:42   thousands of years old you is it is is [TS]

00:33:44   this the second little mermaid [TS]

00:33:45   comparison you've made a kickass [TS]

00:33:47   characters well right yeah why don't you [TS]

00:33:51   kiss [TS]

00:33:52   don't be so much of your self just tease [TS]

00:33:57   LOL well it's not good it's just not [TS]

00:34:01   it's not only the song to encourage them [TS]

00:34:03   to kiss the alphabets kissing the filthy [TS]

00:34:05   humans that's the problem if they shave [TS]

00:34:07   once in awhile maybe you know a one is [TS]

00:34:09   an interesting character that I like [TS]

00:34:11   that actress to it I really marine auto [TS]

00:34:13   she's great is forced into this work [TS]

00:34:15   into this actually think that the [TS]

00:34:17   problem with the characters that she's [TS]

00:34:18   forced into this kind of ridiculous [TS]

00:34:19   pining over aragorn then I think I know [TS]

00:34:22   you didn't like them and i thought i [TS]

00:34:23   bought that because she really is [TS]

00:34:25   trapped in this bad family / kingdom [TS]

00:34:28   situation well that's true yeah [TS]

00:34:30   apparently officer dead her surrogate [TS]

00:34:33   father has been in a week on the throne [TS]

00:34:35   her brother has been killed another [TS]

00:34:38   brother because of fathers and sons [TS]

00:34:41   mother is bones McCoy her brother her [TS]

00:34:44   brother has been banished and is out [TS]

00:34:45   with all the other horse guys riding [TS]

00:34:47   around and Aaron comes in and like the [TS]

00:34:49   arrogant as a way out for her so of [TS]

00:34:51   course she's going to clean them and I [TS]

00:34:52   like the fact that clean doesn't need [TS]

00:34:54   anything because the only reason she was [TS]

00:34:55   cleaning it was like well freedom he can [TS]

00:34:57   lead me out of this life and and she [TS]

00:34:59   what does I'd really to believe that she [TS]

00:35:01   wants to be a warrior and stuff which is [TS]

00:35:03   not easy to pull off your supposed to be [TS]

00:35:05   like the pretty princess tiana supposed [TS]

00:35:06   to believe you want to go off to war [TS]

00:35:08   well I like that to do that very well [TS]

00:35:10   she just seemed sharper to me to click [TS]

00:35:12   she clung to aragorn I felt like for [TS]

00:35:14   longer [TS]

00:35:15   I would have liked to have seen her kind [TS]

00:35:16   of figure figure out just as an elf [TS]

00:35:20   girlfriend who put before sucking [TS]

00:35:21   mortality or yes right third right so [TS]

00:35:24   she should be like oh sorry [TS]

00:35:25   he encouraged her more though in the in [TS]

00:35:27   the movie and the book he's much cooler [TS]

00:35:29   and fairer to her and he feels bad from [TS]

00:35:32   the start because she can feel but she's [TS]

00:35:34   the human link right she is she's the [TS]

00:35:36   person he would marry and the movie [TS]

00:35:38   Aragorn is torn too yeah it would marry [TS]

00:35:41   her if she left if there are we didn't [TS]

00:35:44   exist [TS]

00:35:44   this is he would marry it's another [TS]

00:35:45   Kingdom will be the right thing would be [TS]

00:35:47   a good yeah [TS]

00:35:47   merging of the people it's actually good [TS]

00:35:49   match and he's torn over like do I [TS]

00:35:51   really want to do this elf thing I'm IPC [TS]

00:35:54   feels bad about like I'm keeping you [TS]

00:35:55   here with me instead of going west with [TS]

00:35:58   your family it's it's not [TS]

00:36:00   yeah it's not my favorite part of it but [TS]

00:36:01   i like that i really like that character [TS]

00:36:02   and she had stuff to do and is [TS]

00:36:04   interesting in a way that Liv Tyler is [TS]

00:36:05   not able she has not she got nothing out [TS]

00:36:09   is that no one picked the column because [TS]

00:36:11   i remember when the movies were first [TS]

00:36:12   out everyone was raving about columns [TS]

00:36:14   performance in motion capture and I [TS]

00:36:15   think you know cg is great in circles a [TS]

00:36:17   good performance and everything but yeah [TS]

00:36:19   what they have gone do in the movie [TS]

00:36:21   feels a lot more not one note but let's [TS]

00:36:25   say to note and the government the books [TS]

00:36:27   feels and more multivariate to me [TS]

00:36:30   easy easy you know he's a crack addict [TS]

00:36:32   so he really is all about crack that the [TS]

00:36:34   one ring addict [TS]

00:36:36   nothing not thats circus shouldn't be [TS]

00:36:39   praised for the job he did I just think [TS]

00:36:42   that the people process the idea that oh [TS]

00:36:44   well he got into the he got to the [TS]

00:36:46   special suit with markers on it and then [TS]

00:36:48   there is aimed the camera and they [TS]

00:36:49   attract matter then that is simply [TS]

00:36:51   basically dressed the model the [TS]

00:36:54   wherewithal these motions that really I [TS]

00:36:56   I think it kind of just diminishes the [TS]

00:36:58   amount of work for the animators put [TS]

00:36:59   into that character because you you the [TS]

00:37:03   amount of work that has to be done to [TS]

00:37:04   take that motion then I take the [TS]

00:37:06   performance data and actually turn it [TS]

00:37:08   into column is immense giving that [TS]

00:37:11   episodes actually that was a conference [TS]

00:37:14   with one of the lead animators on calm [TS]

00:37:15   years ago and she was explained to me [TS]

00:37:18   that well think that the the big problem [TS]

00:37:20   was that column is a crack addict who [TS]

00:37:22   weighs about 10 pounds he has no meat on [TS]

00:37:25   his bones whatsoever is andy serkis is [TS]

00:37:27   essentially [TS]

00:37:28   essentially an athlete with muscle and [TS]

00:37:31   bone and muscle and tissue and so what [TS]

00:37:33   the legs we had to make sure that we had [TS]

00:37:36   given these spindly legs that would sort [TS]

00:37:38   of move in with each other and like move [TS]

00:37:39   as though there's no flashes of any kind [TS]

00:37:42   that was preventing those those those [TS]

00:37:44   legs from doing things that no human [TS]

00:37:45   legs would possibly do and that's the [TS]

00:37:47   sort of this sort of maybe thinking okay [TS]

00:37:49   guess I'm stupid and thinking that ok [TS]

00:37:51   then just push record and then say okay [TS]

00:37:53   let's just drag this with this is this [TS]

00:37:55   capture file onto this model file and [TS]

00:37:57   then exported to iMovie good whose squad [TS]

00:38:00   for what yes that's what I think it's a [TS]

00:38:02   lot of people were praying at the time [TS]

00:38:04   was wow what a technical achievement and [TS]

00:38:05   it was but now it's going with hindsight [TS]

00:38:07   you can look RK technical achievement is [TS]

00:38:09   fine and everything and we've done such [TS]

00:38:11   a great job but let's just look at it as [TS]

00:38:12   a character for you pretend I don't know [TS]

00:38:13   how it was done how does that work and [TS]

00:38:15   the character I field is flatter than [TS]

00:38:17   like people like always [TS]

00:38:19   what an amazing performances yeah you [TS]

00:38:21   know he only especially with the the [TS]

00:38:25   really very it struck me watching the [TS]

00:38:27   blu-rays how pronounced they did these [TS]

00:38:29   Smeagol versus Tom split yeah like I [TS]

00:38:33   bought that the first couple times I saw [TS]

00:38:34   but now my car I like maybe it's just [TS]

00:38:36   watching them altogether my ok we get it [TS]

00:38:38   yeah they do what they do it maybe one [TS]

00:38:41   too many times but you know technically [TS]

00:38:43   it is I I think it's one of the one of [TS]

00:38:44   the most amazing cinematic achievement [TS]

00:38:46   of the last you know maybe ever write [TS]

00:38:50   the fact that this is a fully-realized [TS]

00:38:51   character I i still think you're over [TS]

00:38:54   him by the way talking about achievement [TS]

00:38:55   something like well yeah the original yo [TS]

00:38:57   shorty yes yes that's not what is there [TS]

00:38:59   any other yo what are you talking about [TS]

00:39:00   that [TS]

00:39:01   touche your puppet is great but I mean [TS]

00:39:03   that the fact that they they have a CGI [TS]

00:39:05   character and it is my kids how do you [TS]

00:39:09   think you know they did column and they [TS]

00:39:11   said you know they had fit my I think my [TS]

00:39:13   son said they found a very skinny man in [TS]

00:39:16   put him in a little suit and and no he's [TS]

00:39:19   from a computer entirely it its it's [TS]

00:39:21   amazing calling himself yeah he you know [TS]

00:39:24   he's a funny character he's a memorable [TS]

00:39:26   character there's no doubt about it i [TS]

00:39:28   mean tricksy hobbitses right that [TS]

00:39:30   happens all [TS]

00:39:31   yeah I bring I speak like Gollum [TS]

00:39:34   frequently perhaps I've said too much [TS]

00:39:35   but uh but he is he is a he has some [TS]

00:39:39   plot points that he does he needs to be [TS]

00:39:42   in [TS]

00:39:42   tagme Stewie the only thing interesting [TS]

00:39:44   happening in those sam and frodo scenes [TS]

00:39:46   for God's sake so I mean that there when [TS]

00:39:48   he has he has a tough job because he's [TS]

00:39:51   trying to like keep it interesting keep [TS]

00:39:52   the plate spinning and but yeah I mean [TS]

00:39:55   he's he's a he's like a comic relief [TS]

00:39:58   antagonist you don't know the other part [TS]

00:40:01   that's like that was bred to reef [TS]

00:40:02   playing as a pronounced to rephrase [TS]

00:40:04   playing in a hour we're going to [TS]

00:40:06   reference is playing in I don't know how [TS]

00:40:08   you pronounce it I tell anyone and I [TS]

00:40:10   were not in Spain as an Elvish do I [TS]

00:40:13   plane were playing Grima Wormtongue in [TS]

00:40:17   the books it's really ridiculous part i [TS]

00:40:20   mean it's kind of like colony and its [TS]

00:40:21   way and I think the more the one role [TS]

00:40:24   that I think I like more than more watch [TS]

00:40:26   the films is brad dourif that I think he [TS]

00:40:28   is able to take a sort of ridiculous [TS]

00:40:30   role where the guys serving two masters [TS]

00:40:33   whatever and I think he actually pulls a [TS]

00:40:36   lot of nobility out of this being a [TS]

00:40:37   lickspittle partner i think i think [TS]

00:40:40   that's more of a 10 character then a [TS]

00:40:41   medium is no one remembers you remember [TS]

00:40:43   the scene I don't know what's in the [TS]

00:40:44   extended aim is Wormtongue well as names [TS]

00:40:47   grima but why would you trust that guy [TS]

00:40:50   don't forget name is warm time yeah [TS]

00:40:53   don't have missed your advisee I've got [TS]

00:40:55   my mind my advisors name is John bad [TS]

00:40:58   advice like yeah exactly yeah whatever [TS]

00:41:01   that guy said sign me up breakfast great [TS]

00:41:03   but he's I've seen him to that he did it [TS]

00:41:05   back 15 did the x-files it's what he [TS]

00:41:07   does and he does it it's funny because [TS]

00:41:09   he voices i play a video game right now [TS]

00:41:11   where he plays use the voice actor of [TS]

00:41:12   one of the characters it's like I came [TS]

00:41:14   here I can see grateful working on every [TS]

00:41:16   time I look it wasn't he didn't do that [TS]

00:41:17   ruling doin also yeah well he was a [TS]

00:41:19   mentat into a mental seemed he was a [TS]

00:41:22   little nervous in turn he was a turncoat [TS]

00:41:24   his name was a Phil backstabber i think [TS]

00:41:26   was never used to typecast in roles that [TS]

00:41:31   are just described by their character [TS]

00:41:33   names he was the murderer Eugene tooms [TS]

00:41:35   in the x-files so yeah this is what no [TS]

00:41:38   he's that he's the guy that i love but [TS]

00:41:39   he's a scene that I like with him know [TS]

00:41:41   that I think is the best apartments [TS]

00:41:42   services both the same with Saruman at [TS]

00:41:44   the end when they both are killed but [TS]

00:41:46   the one where he's talking to me when he [TS]

00:41:49   has this discussion [TS]

00:41:50   you know he's like where they always [TS]

00:41:52   trying to sort of to seduce ER [TS]

00:41:54   and I actually think it's a great little [TS]

00:41:56   scene that's his moment that's another [TS]

00:41:58   moment tube is that defines her [TS]

00:41:59   character his moment is skeezy he's [TS]

00:42:02   already squeezies it's a subtle moment [TS]

00:42:05   you think that he may actually working [TS]

00:42:06   her now I don't know haha i don't think [TS]

00:42:10   that I don't know I'm 56 handle oh let's [TS]

00:42:14   see that subtlety but he can't even [TS]

00:42:17   stabbed Saruman right i don't know if [TS]

00:42:19   people in the chat room are complaining [TS]

00:42:21   about my saying yo was better than gamma [TS]

00:42:23   want to address these people now Angela [TS]

00:42:26   what you're gonna stand on a soapbox and [TS]

00:42:28   address them [TS]

00:42:29   well I have time to heat up a microwave [TS]

00:42:31   pizza at the reason I say Yoda is is [TS]

00:42:33   more impressive is because like is you [TS]

00:42:35   know it's like wow computers are made [TS]

00:42:36   like you have so much more freedom with [TS]

00:42:39   a computer it's much more difficult to [TS]

00:42:42   have a bunch of foam on a guy's hand and [TS]

00:42:44   then buy it as a dramatic part than it [TS]

00:42:46   is to do computers at this stage the [TS]

00:42:49   technology was I'm saying that the [TS]

00:42:50   achievement of making someone's hand [TS]

00:42:53   shoved up into a doll with a phone leaf [TS]

00:42:56   a muppet buying that is what is a much [TS]

00:42:59   greater an amazing achievement then [TS]

00:43:01   making gone with computers now the [TS]

00:43:04   government also my puter she was [TS]

00:43:05   everything to be just so much more [TS]

00:43:06   freedom [TS]

00:43:07   I mean like it yo get you can't even see [TS]

00:43:09   his feet [TS]

00:43:10   well that's a bit like CGI you know like [TS]

00:43:11   the same problem every time you look at [TS]

00:43:14   cgi you become you know painfully aware [TS]

00:43:15   that it is CG on a sec I and I think you [TS]

00:43:18   can soon that to a certain degree with [TS]

00:43:20   God by agree with you I i mean i agree [TS]

00:43:22   with you that I like you as a muppet [TS]

00:43:23   because it's like so the in mcallen [TS]

00:43:25   effect where it's like I don't see a [TS]

00:43:27   puppet and I see Yoda and with gollum [TS]

00:43:30   i'm still always in the back of my head [TS]

00:43:32   aware that like it's not the Lighting's [TS]

00:43:34   not quite right and it's the seat like [TS]

00:43:36   I'm not as followed bothered by the [TS]

00:43:37   helicopter shop but golem is very common [TS]

00:43:40   very close but the promise column has to [TS]

00:43:42   be human a little bit so like when i see [TS]

00:43:44   you die say for all I know that alien [TS]

00:43:46   skin looks exactly like foam rubber [TS]

00:43:48   I think I i think the service between [TS]

00:43:50   respect and admiration and actually [TS]

00:43:53   thinking it's it's more solid I mean and [TS]

00:43:56   it's just I'm I'm going to talk about [TS]

00:43:58   Star Wars just as an illustration of [TS]

00:43:59   this concept but i think that the Yoda [TS]

00:44:03   puppet had at least as much person [TS]

00:44:06   personality if not more than C driver [TS]

00:44:08   conversion but the fact that they have [TS]

00:44:11   the freedom to say well we if we were [TS]

00:44:12   shooting a real actor we would have an [TS]

00:44:14   establishing shot which he walks into [TS]

00:44:16   the frame and then takes a position on [TS]

00:44:19   it's a mark right in front of this [TS]

00:44:20   person is going to talk to the ability [TS]

00:44:22   to actually do that shot in CGI I think [TS]

00:44:25   that's you know that that's a more solid [TS]

00:44:27   choice and that's why column is a I [TS]

00:44:30   think he's a more realized character [TS]

00:44:32   than yoga was in public forum but you [TS]

00:44:34   can't do column as a bunch more premium [TS]

00:44:36   wordpress because of what he's asked to [TS]

00:44:38   talk say I'm saying in terms of like [TS]

00:44:40   being a being impressed by the [TS]

00:44:41   technology [TS]

00:44:42   I mean I think we need to advise cgi [TS]

00:44:44   there's so much more you can do with me [TS]

00:44:46   i'm impressed by the technology I just [TS]

00:44:47   don't necessarily buy it as a former [TS]

00:44:49   character it takes me out of it but i [TS]

00:44:50   think the same thing with Jason was [TS]

00:44:52   saying about the helicopter shot just [TS]

00:44:53   like I'm aware of it but i but I am [TS]

00:44:56   impressed i really i like him as a [TS]

00:44:58   character i think between the hobbit [TS]

00:44:59   version i'm sorry the the version in the [TS]

00:45:02   movie The Hobbit and The version of the [TS]

00:45:03   First Lord of the Rings movie because [TS]

00:45:05   they were able to put a wire up that [TS]

00:45:07   face so much better again and rig it so [TS]

00:45:10   much better for the hobbit that there's [TS]

00:45:13   that extra I I believed it was the first [TS]

00:45:15   movie but when you compare the 2i didn't [TS]

00:45:18   even think about how impressive this the [TS]

00:45:20   CGI character was in the hobbit just ok [TS]

00:45:22   there's column don't know how the dead [TS]

00:45:24   and I don't have to think about how they [TS]

00:45:26   did that that's just a really good life [TS]

00:45:28   like character now is the time when I i [TS]

00:45:31   believe as a fellowship we should [TS]

00:45:33   consider going our separate ways and [TS]

00:45:36   saying goodbye so i'm considering this [TS]

00:45:38   the end of this episode [TS]

00:45:41   what else what should we talk about I [TS]

00:45:43   thought we had another hour to go but we [TS]

00:45:45   do that was just the first ending [TS]

00:45:46   oh shoot there's plenty more to talk i [TS]

00:45:49   just want to work in semantics in in two [TS]

00:45:51   hours we all get on a boat [TS]

00:45:53   I want to talk about my favorite other [TS]

00:45:54   seen the movie of my many favorite [TS]

00:45:55   scenes the movie about seven favorite [TS]

00:45:57   scenes there's 15 endings i have seven [TS]

00:45:59   favorite seems like one or two hours [TS]

00:46:00   telling the Battle of Pellinor fields i [TS]

00:46:03   think is a wonderful thing it's true [TS]

00:46:05   it's actually i think one of the most [TS]

00:46:07   readable battle scenes in the book and [TS]

00:46:09   it's it goes it has a lot of interesting [TS]

00:46:11   detail and it tells the story very well [TS]

00:46:13   even with so much actually on token [TS]

00:46:15   tends to do like army generals he throws [TS]

00:46:18   wave after wave of people in New York [TS]

00:46:19   City [TS]

00:46:20   other at times the movie does that too [TS]

00:46:22   but pound or fields in the movie it it's [TS]

00:46:25   you know it's sort of a crazy amount of [TS]

00:46:26   action there's all the giant elephant [TS]

00:46:28   monsters that come with the old fonts [TS]

00:46:30   that come in and wave after wave of [TS]

00:46:33   things happening but there's that bit [TS]

00:46:35   with the race with the with the [TS]

00:46:37   witch-king and wear ao when the reason [TS]

00:46:41   that all different themes have come [TS]

00:46:43   together you know something going back [TS]

00:46:45   thousands of years now in the books [TS]

00:46:47   mythology it all comes together and [TS]

00:46:50   she's there for the right reason and [TS]

00:46:51   mary poppins Pippin know Mary Pippin I [TS]

00:46:55   can be one of those is it charlie was [TS]

00:46:56   lost in the other ones that Mary was a [TS]

00:46:58   pic but I've lost check out the scene [TS]

00:47:00   we're talking about those guys hot in it [TS]

00:47:03   and there's a guy with the brown mean [TS]

00:47:06   Hobbit fathobbit Charlie from water any [TS]

00:47:09   other arm huh anyway so they're one of [TS]

00:47:14   the purposes there and he's got the [TS]

00:47:15   sword in the books as Pippin I'm sorry [TS]

00:47:17   Spencer he's got the sword in the books [TS]

00:47:20   they described he got a sword in the tom [TS]

00:47:22   bombadil seen that is the only thing [TS]

00:47:24   that could possibly affect the [TS]

00:47:26   witch-king so in the book at all comes [TS]

00:47:27   together more but it still plays in the [TS]

00:47:29   movie that you have this bit where the [TS]

00:47:31   battle is going it goes back and forth [TS]

00:47:32   you know it looks like everything that [TS]

00:47:34   he lost us the moment you know in the [TS]

00:47:36   movie can't happen there's going to be [TS]

00:47:37   some kind of outcome and then we have [TS]

00:47:41   students downfall he's knocked over the [TS]

00:47:43   witch-king comes in the head ringwraith [TS]

00:47:45   to sort of you know to finish him off [TS]

00:47:49   and eat then i'll take the horse the [TS]

00:47:51   whole thing [TS]

00:47:51   scrape it and if anyone comes up it's [TS]

00:47:54   more in the book she's hidden immunity [TS]

00:47:55   for this long [TS]

00:47:56   she is going to you know she's battles [TS]

00:47:59   this guy and she lets the air out of the [TS]

00:48:01   which case shasha g that she's got a big [TS]

00:48:04   she's got the big flail he's gonna [TS]

00:48:07   conquer this woman suddenly seems weak [TS]

00:48:08   you know she's a shieldmaiden right and [TS]

00:48:10   then Pippin just you know cuts his leg [TS]

00:48:13   basically stabs him and kill she'll [TS]

00:48:15   exactly exactly and that she's able to [TS]

00:48:18   to kill him and then it suddenly like [TS]

00:48:19   that's the turning they've got this [TS]

00:48:21   great moment happens that's the turning [TS]

00:48:22   of the tide and it's I think it's a [TS]

00:48:24   wonderful thing that that seems not that [TS]

00:48:26   I like the extended edition scene with [TS]

00:48:27   the mouth of Sauron where aragorn's just [TS]

00:48:30   decide what have had enough [TS]

00:48:31   that's just cut it off as equipment gets [TS]

00:48:35   better as a wonderful scene that doesn't [TS]

00:48:36   read this thing on the the the the mouth [TS]

00:48:39   which isn't quite right as a mouth is [TS]

00:48:41   very creepy you have two big in the [TS]

00:48:43   strange and optional lips move weird and [TS]

00:48:46   it all is gonna be cooking mouth there's [TS]

00:48:48   to cleanse favorite scenes from 41 [TS]

00:48:51   Glenn's favorite since it's been great i [TS]

00:48:53   really enjoyed being on the show and [TS]

00:48:54   yeah it's been great but it's sadly it's [TS]

00:48:57   time I think maybe we must all go into [TS]

00:48:59   the West now and and because i'm feeling [TS]

00:49:02   that the world is an end so we may have [TS]

00:49:04   to all say goodbye [TS]

00:49:05   what else we talked about was a deal [TS]

00:49:06   with galadriel and Gandalf was that [TS]

00:49:08   about I think you know what the deal i [TS]

00:49:11   don't know i mean caliber when she [TS]

00:49:13   married to and their ring bearers know [TS]

00:49:15   she's I thought she was married to the [TS]

00:49:16   other dude another guy in the forest [TS]

00:49:18   Delabar and what everyone called him [TS]

00:49:20   celery kill a boat but that's not the [TS]

00:49:23   guy from the major celebrate the unabomb [TS]

00:49:24   no no she never tell rod or one's wife [TS]

00:49:27   was killed by works long ago [TS]

00:49:28   what is true read the books man i did [TS]

00:49:33   like 10 years ago his wife that's why he [TS]

00:49:35   hates works [TS]

00:49:36   do you ever wonder why L run hoods works [TS]

00:49:38   so much everybody hates or does anybody [TS]

00:49:42   like those on loves them hangs out with [TS]

00:49:44   the lost found her sorry mom doesn't [TS]

00:49:46   like works here's the thing about what I [TS]

00:49:47   mean let's talk about orcs orcs are [TS]

00:49:49   terrible [TS]

00:49:50   they're really bad at their jobs they [TS]

00:49:51   die very easily you have like a thousand [TS]

00:49:53   orcs and five guys and they just kill [TS]

00:49:55   the orcs there the stormtroopers of the [TS]

00:49:57   lord of the rare the stormtroopers right [TS]

00:49:58   so so so sorry Mon doesn't like works [TS]

00:50:01   that's why he goes to all the trouble of [TS]

00:50:03   cutting down all the trees and mining [TS]

00:50:05   all the metal so he can make Eric I [TS]

00:50:07   because or acai are actually kind of [TS]

00:50:09   competent than warriors works you know [TS]

00:50:11   we have they're there because the great [TS]

00:50:13   warriors they dance from hockey and [TS]

00:50:15   displays being a great performances as [TS]

00:50:18   we were earlier can we just give a good [TS]

00:50:20   hand to all the people who play the orc [TS]

00:50:21   extras [TS]

00:50:22   I got a UH you a great job there they're [TS]

00:50:25   great no I love the ones especially the [TS]

00:50:26   ones of lines would be with the crazy [TS]

00:50:28   like New Zealand British accent and [TS]

00:50:30   everything makeup is awesome on some of [TS]

00:50:32   those do a great job with the makeup and [TS]

00:50:34   all mia the physicality and everything [TS]

00:50:36   of it i love that work like sergeant [TS]

00:50:38   what was he the guy with the great [TS]

00:50:39   misshapen head with the limp and then [TS]

00:50:41   sort of half arm who sort of pink is [TS]

00:50:43   like like colored like our [TS]

00:50:44   sir and that giant stone comes lobbed [TS]

00:50:47   anime stands aside because Jackson large [TS]

00:50:49   databases got a blue one in the harlot [TS]

00:50:50   my recollection traits but they are kind [TS]

00:50:54   much scarier I just like I like this I [TS]

00:50:56   like the simple ones like the one in in [TS]

00:50:58   Mordor who takes a when when photos all [TS]

00:51:02   tied up in the in the web I like you [TS]

00:51:05   know I just I don't know if there's [TS]

00:51:06   something he's kinda you know he's like [TS]

00:51:07   he's like a London docket [TS]

00:51:09   yeah yeah the mortar arcs have something [TS]

00:51:11   going to them they have more of like a [TS]

00:51:12   sniveling sneaky nature I feel like [TS]

00:51:14   they're like the archivist big dumb [TS]

00:51:16   brutes but the the more orcs like yeah [TS]

00:51:18   they're wimpy and get our daily but like [TS]

00:51:21   there's the guys their blue-collar orcs [TS]

00:51:23   yet know about their they'll slit your [TS]

00:51:24   throat in the night and steal your stuff [TS]

00:51:26   and your livestock as the orcs are like [TS]

00:51:28   hatch to like that's something that's [TS]

00:51:30   only hinted at in the books and [TS]

00:51:32   appendices never mentioned the books [TS]

00:51:33   they have no women have sex with someone [TS]

00:51:35   might have Tommy had 10 women apparently [TS]

00:51:38   like everybody reproduces asexually or [TS]

00:51:40   like buds or something I don't stephanie [TS]

00:51:42   l so lov I just don't they don't [TS]

00:51:44   reproduce heels look at each other with [TS]

00:51:46   a smoldering passion for a couple years [TS]

00:51:48   and then standing still a couple hundred [TS]

00:51:50   years probably better than babies are [TS]

00:51:52   born somehow somehow they have the [TS]

00:51:54   dwarves build their children don't huge [TS]

00:51:58   them know that the door for women you [TS]

00:52:00   know look like if we're at your service [TS]

00:52:03   we can't tell the difference where women [TS]

00:52:05   have beards that's one of the better [TS]

00:52:06   added lines that's from the books and [TS]

00:52:09   we're trying to say positive things but [TS]

00:52:10   like what something that comes up is the [TS]

00:52:12   John cannot fight his nature mom what [TS]

00:52:15   about John let it out when i watch these [TS]

00:52:17   movies i know they're necessary for plot [TS]

00:52:19   purposes but i always like to ponder [TS]

00:52:20   like that we really need the ants I know [TS]

00:52:22   that's sacrilege but like yeah because [TS]

00:52:24   you do need them for so many important [TS]

00:52:26   plot points but i don't think they come [TS]

00:52:28   off well in the movie there's some funny [TS]

00:52:31   you know i like i like the end meeting [TS]

00:52:33   where there's the scene where my kids [TS]

00:52:35   actually thought that was hilarious [TS]

00:52:36   where they're saying good morning in a [TS]

00:52:39   nighttime that's a funny bit and I'll i [TS]

00:52:41   kinda like it when they get pissed off [TS]

00:52:42   and they start throwing rocks at at [TS]

00:52:44   Saruman [TS]

00:52:46   other than the end in the end they're [TS]

00:52:47   walking trees and like somehow that [TS]

00:52:49   works better in the book is really does [TS]

00:52:51   John is saying there John saying that he [TS]

00:52:53   walks basically it [TS]

00:52:55   well he's not quick be mean he's right [TS]

00:52:58   that that uh that it you've got to [TS]

00:53:00   portray them and that makes you have to [TS]

00:53:02   have sentries and how the heck do you do [TS]

00:53:05   that [TS]

00:53:06   yeah yeah I think they lose me a little [TS]

00:53:07   bit that part where the the end the the [TS]

00:53:09   young and steals the speeder bike and [TS]

00:53:11   draws its alright [TS]

00:53:13   actually it's it's exactly like return [TS]

00:53:16   of the jedi x1 speeder bike it's the [TS]

00:53:17   tree the tree is really angry with my [TS]

00:53:20   brother it back i like that John [TS]

00:53:23   rhys-davies gets double billing yes [TS]

00:53:25   because he's game Lee and reappeared and [TS]

00:53:28   Sawa wait they're digging in the wrong [TS]

00:53:32   mines of moria oh that's good i got [TS]

00:53:37   there yet far out man that I like them [TS]

00:53:39   tired so I like mines of moria i really [TS]

00:53:42   like that i think that the foreboding I [TS]

00:53:43   Johnson looks like i said earlier but [TS]

00:53:45   like the foreboding I like the comedy in [TS]

00:53:48   the middle of it there's that there's a [TS]

00:53:49   bit there's that quite part where I [TS]

00:53:51   don't think i'll figure out where to go [TS]

00:53:53   and and they and they see it always [TS]

00:53:55   climbing and then he's like oh you know [TS]

00:53:57   i like when Pip and knocks the thing [TS]

00:53:59   down the well and it's just like keeps [TS]

00:54:00   going [TS]

00:54:01   oh he's like everybody thinks it's over [TS]

00:54:03   and it just keeps echoing down and they [TS]

00:54:05   got that great close shot on him just [TS]

00:54:07   watching him wince every time it hits [TS]

00:54:09   something we did open with me trying to [TS]

00:54:10   do that but this it's pronounced mental [TS]

00:54:12   on but it is that very funny bits funny [TS]

00:54:14   in the books too [TS]

00:54:15   we're sitting in from the doors and [TS]

00:54:16   again it's like all these stores used to [TS]

00:54:18   be us but you're open to all comers [TS]

00:54:20   let's see it says speak friend and enter [TS]

00:54:21   and he tries like every smell and in the [TS]

00:54:24   books it gets darker and darker there [TS]

00:54:25   for hours he's trying everything he's [TS]

00:54:28   learned over thousands of years and [TS]

00:54:30   finally photos like does it literally [TS]

00:54:31   say speak friend and enter these saying [TS]

00:54:33   speak the word friend enters a cold [TS]

00:54:36   that's it once again punctuation and or [TS]

00:54:40   if he had you there John would have it [TS]

00:54:42   all set to some parentheses semicolon [TS]

00:54:46   so how come how come the writing on the [TS]

00:54:47   dwarf doors in alvin because of oh god [TS]

00:54:51   don't ask that question because i'll [TS]

00:54:52   give you an answer i'm going to give you [TS]

00:54:53   an answer it's like why it's like why [TS]

00:54:55   everything is Latin away [TS]

00:54:57   nevermind [TS]

00:54:57   I take it back I think about art don't [TS]

00:54:59   you tell rest assured there is an [TS]

00:55:01   explain Longo dream and the whole [TS]

00:55:04   ridiculous to think that Tolkien screwed [TS]

00:55:06   up somewhere but anyway I I like those [TS]

00:55:09   I like that scene and it's not like a [TS]

00:55:10   lot of the other you know these giant [TS]

00:55:12   battles that happen later in the movie [TS]

00:55:13   that in that scene or those series of [TS]

00:55:15   scenes it's dark and foreboding in the [TS]

00:55:17   in and they stop for a moment and [TS]

00:55:19   there's some comedy and then and then [TS]

00:55:21   humor is immediately replaced you know [TS]

00:55:22   once once they uh they awaken all the [TS]

00:55:26   all the guys there's all that foreboding [TS]

00:55:28   although even there's that funny moment [TS]

00:55:30   because there's that great line [TS]

00:55:31   they have a cave troll right and then [TS]

00:55:34   the cave troll cousins really awful and [TS]

00:55:36   then and then when they're back out [TS]

00:55:37   after they defeat all the works very [TS]

00:55:39   easily because works are easy to kill [TS]

00:55:40   cave trolls not but orcs are easy to [TS]

00:55:43   kill [TS]

00:55:44   then they go out into the big open space [TS]

00:55:46   and I i kinda like that that shot we're [TS]

00:55:48   now you can you can see that they're all [TS]

00:55:50   coming in there they're hopelessly [TS]

00:55:51   outnumbered but there's also like the [TS]

00:55:53   fire off in the distance of the Balrog [TS]

00:55:54   and then everybody leaves again like to [TS]

00:55:56   buy I'm out of here and that's really [TS]

00:55:58   foreboding and i love that whole [TS]

00:56:00   sequence on this great that there's an i [TS]

00:56:02   said there's a through-line there now to [TS]

00:56:03   with the hobbit as well because that's [TS]

00:56:06   balanced tomb em where they were they [TS]

00:56:08   find themselves and of course balance is [TS]

00:56:11   in the hobbit one of the door nah he's [TS]

00:56:14   he's exposition a dwarf in The Hobbit [TS]

00:56:16   and he's old dwarf he's a you know he's [TS]

00:56:20   wrestled for Fallon exposition I think [TS]

00:56:22   his name that i mentioned howard shore [TS]

00:56:25   score with oh yeah i will give a big [TS]

00:56:28   thumbs up 2i I own all three lord of the [TS]

00:56:31   rings albums as well as i just bought [TS]

00:56:33   the hobbit after seeing that and I love [TS]

00:56:35   his stuff i think you know he has the [TS]

00:56:37   right Peppa can take on this music he [TS]

00:56:40   does a great job of weaving these [TS]

00:56:42   disparate themes for all the characters [TS]

00:56:44   it's very it's a very John Williams [TS]

00:56:46   score and I really i love it i think [TS]

00:56:49   it's great i don't think my objection is [TS]

00:56:50   with the music I think it's with [TS]

00:56:52   Howard's to use because some of his [TS]

00:56:53   themes i really like in my very favorite [TS]

00:56:56   theme and I [TS]

00:56:56   favorite musical over the whole movie is [TS]

00:56:58   the music that plays when they showed [TS]

00:56:59   the Lord of the Rings title text and [TS]

00:57:02   fellowship whatever that little [TS]

00:57:03   sequences you know that sound right do [TS]

00:57:06   that dude right that that that is that [TS]

00:57:09   is the perfect one but he had his action [TS]

00:57:12   like his little action thing like [TS]

00:57:14   aragorn's theme and like the exciting [TS]

00:57:16   things are happening thing they play it [TS]

00:57:18   too much is too much on the nose like [TS]

00:57:20   this is the movie where every time you [TS]

00:57:22   want to you're supposed to feel an [TS]

00:57:24   emotion they play the music is supposed [TS]

00:57:25   to make it to that emotion and you're [TS]

00:57:26   right John Williams does that as well [TS]

00:57:28   it's somehow like I don't know maybe [TS]

00:57:30   because it this the same ques happen so [TS]

00:57:33   many different times over the nine hours [TS]

00:57:34   whereas in the much shorter three hours [TS]

00:57:37   of the Star Wars trilogy or whatever and [TS]

00:57:38   you know it doesn't come up as bad but [TS]

00:57:40   like it just feels like he's someone's [TS]

00:57:41   hitting me over the head and it's not so [TS]

00:57:43   much the music as written you know how [TS]

00:57:45   its laid into him he doesn't he doesn't [TS]

00:57:46   vary it quite as much as Williams those [TS]

00:57:48   Williams yeah great job definitely [TS]

00:57:50   weaving it in different arrangements and [TS]

00:57:52   there's such sneaky things even if I i [TS]

00:57:54   hesitate to bring up the score for the [TS]

00:57:56   Phantom Menace but he does a great job [TS]

00:57:57   in the Anakin theme in the Phantom [TS]

00:57:58   Menace i like i like that Fame i like [TS]

00:58:01   the music fun of doing of working the [TS]

00:58:03   imperial march into it in a very subtle [TS]

00:58:05   way that I had to point out to someone [TS]

00:58:06   recently because they're like where is [TS]

00:58:08   the Imperial will help you pointed out [TS]

00:58:09   to them and they never spoke to him [TS]

00:58:11   again isn't yeah that's probably true [TS]

00:58:12   how short should again peter jackson the [TS]

00:58:15   garageband files with the loop stuff in [TS]

00:58:17   it that would be good for the extended [TS]

00:58:18   version there is still a lot of great [TS]

00:58:20   stuff and I was thinking when you're is [TS]

00:58:22   talking about your favorite music I've [TS]

00:58:23   seen my favorite music which is the [TS]

00:58:24   scene not necessarily that you've got [TS]

00:58:27   that big bombastic part in the bridge of [TS]

00:58:29   Gaza doom we're running across but i [TS]

00:58:31   think the the music the softer music [TS]

00:58:33   that plays after Gannon local falling is [TS]

00:58:36   is just is perfect is so it's haunting [TS]

00:58:39   and it's just it's every time I think of [TS]

00:58:42   it gives me it makes my hair stand up [TS]

00:59:10   I even like the ending song [TS]

00:59:14   yeah she the hard to make a although i [TS]

00:59:17   think the unappreciated gem of the vocal [TS]

00:59:19   songs is the Golem song at the end of [TS]

00:59:22   the two towers which is extremely creepy [TS]

00:59:25   but every little piece know there's a [TS]

00:59:27   song at the in the end credits of two [TS]

00:59:29   towers oh there's a song that sort of [TS]

00:59:32   the golem song and it's it's sung by i [TS]

00:59:35   think a female new zealand vocalist if I [TS]

00:59:37   recalls she's the only one because you [TS]

00:59:39   get analytics at the end of Return of [TS]

00:59:40   the King and yet at the end of [TS]

00:59:42   fellowship and so this one kinda i think [TS]

00:59:45   is underappreciated but it's a very [TS]

00:59:46   creepy nice little does that song go [TS]

00:59:49   with sticky habits always stealing my [TS]

00:59:54   food you can find it you know I i hear [TS]

00:59:57   John siracusa loves it when you put [TS]

00:59:59   music clips [TS]

00:59:59   music clips [TS]

01:00:00   the shows so you can we can go find a [TS]

01:00:02   clip of that and put it in certain right [TS]

01:00:03   my clip my favorite clip should be [TS]

01:00:05   before anyone speaks in this episode or [TS]

01:00:08   actually after the the theme song think [TS]

01:00:09   it's the beginning [TS]

01:00:10   yes music and I actually like the [TS]

01:00:13   opening narration to fellowship and I [TS]

01:00:14   now live there remember it that's why [TS]

01:00:16   was that was again that and then the [TS]

01:00:18   opening scene of fellowship like this is [TS]

01:00:19   gonna be the greatest movie ever and [TS]

01:00:21   then press the movies coming out but you [TS]

01:00:22   know that was my high point is kind of [TS]

01:00:25   like watching the trailer to a movie you [TS]

01:00:27   like me watching the Superman trailer [TS]

01:00:28   it's all downhill after that at least at [TS]

01:00:30   least I think the fact that they filmed [TS]

01:00:33   everything back-to-back-to-back you know [TS]

01:00:36   as a benefit in terms of total [TS]

01:00:37   consistency because they're it's this is [TS]

01:00:39   not a a situation like you know the [TS]

01:00:41   matrix where it's like well it first [TS]

01:00:43   movie was pretty good at MIT Wow really [TS]

01:00:45   went off the rails really quick there is [TS]

01:00:47   it it's one continuous movie right and i [TS]

01:00:50   think that's that's impressive and [TS]

01:00:51   that's the way it needed to be done but [TS]

01:00:53   don't you feel like fellowship like post [TS]

01:00:55   production technologies must have come a [TS]

01:00:57   long way but I still feel like [TS]

01:00:58   fellowship is like the okay guys what [TS]

01:01:00   are we doing here and then the second [TS]

01:01:01   movie is like finding their stride the [TS]

01:01:02   third movie is like guess what we're [TS]

01:01:04   firing on all cylinders really just a [TS]

01:01:06   smaller movie I think I maintain that [TS]

01:01:08   night i like it because of that because [TS]

01:01:09   there is less like we're gonna worry [TS]

01:01:11   about things you like it because you saw [TS]

01:01:12   when you're ten you're only like five [TS]

01:01:16   years older than me so much more mature [TS]

01:01:19   in so so John said that he really likes [TS]

01:01:22   the first scene in the first movie so I [TS]

01:01:24   guess that really should take us into [TS]

01:01:25   our next part of the show where we go [TS]

01:01:27   through every scene step-by-step right [TS]

01:01:29   picture Sicily in 77 yeah this is this [TS]

01:01:38   is just like watching the real movie [TS]

01:01:40   because we're two hours in and I really [TS]

01:01:42   have to pee but I don't know what a [TS]

01:01:43   quickness of always just like what Liv [TS]

01:01:45   Tyler and now with tyler is on the show [TS]

01:01:47   talk about everybody please one world [TS]

01:01:51   oh yes but so is sadly I think the [TS]

01:01:58   Eagles have come to to take us away from [TS]

01:02:00   this terrible place which means I'm just [TS]

01:02:02   say goodbye and that'll be the end of [TS]

01:02:03   the podcast talons are so sharp and [TS]

01:02:06   bleeding is there anything else that [TS]

01:02:07   should talk about work and it's as I'm [TS]

01:02:10   going through various endings there how [TS]

01:02:12   it should [TS]

01:02:12   ended with the Eagles for this is [TS]

01:02:15   dropped the ring in the Eagles the [TS]

01:02:17   Eagles are not at your beck and call you [TS]

01:02:18   can just you know it just find a mafia [TS]

01:02:21   and and the eye of sauron is looking [TS]

01:02:24   everywhere and and more doors at its [TS]

01:02:26   height of power and if you try to fly [TS]

01:02:28   eagles to mount doom when sorrows [TS]

01:02:30   looking around here just like like a [TS]

01:02:32   beam will come out and go to sue the [TS]

01:02:34   Eagles will just be feathers this scene [TS]

01:02:36   in the return of the king with the ISR [TS]

01:02:37   I'm like stairs and frodo for like 30 [TS]

01:02:39   seconds and then he's like quick fall [TS]

01:02:41   down it's like really yes Senor by that [TS]

01:02:44   point is easy nearsighted he's got focus [TS]

01:02:47   problems [TS]

01:02:48   a fitting end what here will be the [TS]

01:02:51   endings this is this movie is famous in [TS]

01:02:53   return of the king is what I'm talking [TS]

01:02:55   about the the for its many many endings [TS]

01:02:57   it there are really i saw this i [TS]

01:03:02   remember seeing this in a theater and I [TS]

01:03:05   kept thinking and this has happened on a [TS]

01:03:06   few movies that I've seen where I [TS]

01:03:08   thought that would be a really good way [TS]

01:03:09   to end it but there's more [TS]

01:03:11   except it happened in Return of the King [TS]

01:03:13   King it happens like 5 i'm really glad [TS]

01:03:16   they didn't end when when everyone's all [TS]

01:03:18   like and now the hit single from they [TS]

01:03:22   ended it right before that one of the [TS]

01:03:24   world as silly as it is for there to be [TS]

01:03:27   multiple endings and I remember being [TS]

01:03:28   bothered by it when I saw the recurring [TS]

01:03:29   in theater I like all the endings [TS]

01:03:31   I you know you could have you could have [TS]

01:03:33   picked one or maybe that's what I mean [TS]

01:03:34   they can wrap everything up right but [TS]

01:03:36   like yeah I nobody get you have to do I [TS]

01:03:38   like every single one of those ends with [TS]

01:03:39   the possible exception of them standing [TS]

01:03:41   on a soundstage seeing photo off onto [TS]

01:03:43   the great ships but oh yeah but it's [TS]

01:03:45   like they got to do that though there's [TS]

01:03:47   good in their ways like the big ceremony [TS]

01:03:48   where they all bowed to the hobbits [TS]

01:03:50   that's a good one and then you know that [TS]

01:03:51   everyone parting from each other and [TS]

01:03:53   they could have been some more montage [TS]

01:03:55   in there maybe instead of having me [TS]

01:03:56   individual like that like the photo [TS]

01:03:58   goodbye could have been like a montage a [TS]

01:04:01   little you know just not a whole let's [TS]

01:04:03   walk out and oh I'm gonna go but they [TS]

01:04:04   say they are they earned it though right [TS]

01:04:06   after 10 hours or whatever of movie I [TS]

01:04:09   think they earned all a big goodbye [TS]

01:04:11   because that's a lot of movie now this [TS]

01:04:13   time when I was watching them all bout [TS]

01:04:15   of the hobbit I just kept thinking like [TS]

01:04:16   Frodo thinking if I'd kept the ring you [TS]

01:04:18   don't bow to me by this my furry fate [TS]

01:04:23   well site again like I think that links [TS]

01:04:25   in with weird [TS]

01:04:26   talking about earlier where you know the [TS]

01:04:27   the sort of allegorical aspects of it [TS]

01:04:29   you know that he doesn't i like that [TS]

01:04:32   photo feels like you know I don't really [TS]

01:04:33   fit in so I gotta go [TS]

01:04:36   and you know I can't really deal with [TS]

01:04:38   coming back to this normal wife plus CS [TS]

01:04:40   it's all allegory right so I'm gonna get [TS]

01:04:42   on a boat and think of it this way if it [TS]

01:04:45   if you had ended on what I think most [TS]

01:04:46   people would agree is the best ending [TS]

01:04:48   with everyone value the hobbits that [TS]

01:04:49   wouldn't have been the right ending for [TS]

01:04:51   the for the movie or the series of ways [TS]

01:04:52   because that's not how it ends it's like [TS]

01:04:54   100 was the whole thing that now finally [TS]

01:04:56   how to get some recognition is not like [TS]

01:04:58   a hobbit civil rights movie they're [TS]

01:04:59   watching you can't you can't have like [TS]

01:05:03   Frodo and this movie by thinking oh well [TS]

01:05:05   you know what I i expanded my horizons [TS]

01:05:07   and I became a better Hobbit forward and [TS]

01:05:10   everybody knows me though the whole [TS]

01:05:12   point is that the you-know-what would [TS]

01:05:14   always always really took me in about [TS]

01:05:16   this story was the idea that by the way [TS]

01:05:20   yeah I know that you're taking this ring [TS]

01:05:22   back in destroying it because it has to [TS]

01:05:23   be done but you realize that the you you [TS]

01:05:25   will be forever damaged by the by virtue [TS]

01:05:28   of the fact you did this you are doing [TS]

01:05:30   ruin the implication the implication is [TS]

01:05:32   that you will be the hero and he'll win [TS]

01:05:34   but you will be destroyed by this ring [TS]

01:05:37   you may live but you will be destroyed [TS]

01:05:39   that's what makes him such a hero and [TS]

01:05:41   that's it for a father for all the from [TS]

01:05:44   the fun we've been poking at that actor [TS]

01:05:45   it's the the i love it when we get to [TS]

01:05:48   the end that hollow look just reacted [TS]

01:05:51   better at that time up this this is this [TS]

01:05:53   is exactly what is needed at the heart [TS]

01:05:55   of them just really died and he has two [TS]

01:05:57   he is no longer of this world and he has [TS]

01:06:00   to the the fact that he's the fact that [TS]

01:06:02   he is back in the Shire and the shower [TS]

01:06:05   only reminds him of the part of him that [TS]

01:06:08   can he can never revisit ever again is [TS]

01:06:10   the reason why you have to leave so [TS]

01:06:11   that's why that is the only ending that [TS]

01:06:13   that's why that as sappy little bit as [TS]

01:06:17   that analytic song is it's very it's [TS]

01:06:19   very good song but it really is designed [TS]

01:06:21   to manipulate you [TS]

01:06:22   that's why it's like a bit scared of you [TS]

01:06:25   i think they got the sort of [TS]

01:06:26   special-effects this movie because i'm [TS]

01:06:28   going to need six bits and credits to [TS]

01:06:29   get these tears ya eyes before the [TS]

01:06:32   lights come back up really does it [TS]

01:06:33   really does not get so in this in this a [TS]

01:06:35   post Marvel blockbuster world the way [TS]

01:06:39   the Lower East [TS]

01:06:40   man would be that would be the ending [TS]

01:06:41   and there'd be some credits and then [TS]

01:06:42   would be the post-credit sequence with a [TS]

01:06:44   board Gandalf recruits Frodo for the and [TS]

01:06:47   then there'd be more credits and then be [TS]

01:06:51   last seen right the fellowship saw [TS]

01:06:52   leaving shawarma well what happens is [TS]

01:06:55   Nick Nick Fury appears at the end out of [TS]

01:06:57   the shadows and says get off i need you [TS]

01:06:59   know what would happen is that we find [TS]

01:07:02   that we finally get to see sauron at the [TS]

01:07:04   very end after the end credits and we [TS]

01:07:07   would never have gotten we would know [TS]

01:07:09   that always this guy who has this ring [TS]

01:07:11   and he's going to be good and we don't [TS]

01:07:14   know who this guy is we saw him like a [TS]

01:07:15   fleeting glance and only at the end the [TS]

01:07:17   crisis bro that's the guy that the story [TS]

01:07:20   has been all about all we have climbed [TS]

01:07:22   out of the rubble of the tower basically [TS]

01:07:24   like shaking his fists there's another [TS]

01:07:27   palantir we went through a 10-hour [TS]

01:07:30   preview for the next damn ten dollar [TS]

01:07:32   movie ticket you want to sell me screw [TS]

01:07:33   you [TS]

01:07:35   marvel I just that you know let's stick [TS]

01:07:37   let's stick various ending scenes in in [TS]

01:07:39   the credits before the credits after the [TS]

01:07:41   credits between parts of the credits [TS]

01:07:44   just stack them up that way then people [TS]

01:07:46   will be like getting up and filing out [TS]

01:07:47   and be like goddamn and they have to go [TS]

01:07:49   back and sit down again and you think [TS]

01:07:51   you know but again I i think after a [TS]

01:07:55   movie this long the endings are are good [TS]

01:07:57   and it has earned them [TS]

01:08:00   I i think it's something about the way [TS]

01:08:01   it's done where it kind of mislead the [TS]

01:08:04   audience into I maybe the music could [TS]

01:08:06   have been different I don't question we [TS]

01:08:08   really have to pee at that point then [TS]

01:08:09   you really okay and I'm gonna get the P [TS]

01:08:11   now I know damn well that's why you [TS]

01:08:12   gotta go with Liv Tyler's on the screen [TS]

01:08:14   then you can make it through the the [TS]

01:08:15   ending its protip have you have you [TS]

01:08:18   never seen the scenes with tyler it that [TS]

01:08:20   said that's always in the bathroom I i [TS]

01:08:23   have now because at home video I don't [TS]

01:08:26   always let it run i did make a point of [TS]

01:08:28   watching them one at least one time this [TS]

01:08:30   should make a version you can carry with [TS]

01:08:32   you [TS]

01:08:32   so when you walk in there's like a [TS]

01:08:33   little summary of hircine so while [TS]

01:08:35   you're sitting on the toilet you could [TS]

01:08:36   read located at the heat of the the [TS]

01:08:38   words of the elders leaving you [TS]

01:08:41   she goes no coma ok now [TS]

01:08:42   that's the kind of thing you want to be [TS]

01:08:44   reading on the toilet thanks going [TS]

01:08:46   that would be a great app though there [TS]

01:08:48   is an app i think i think it's actually [TS]

01:08:49   called run Peter traffic that's that I [TS]

01:08:52   I'm not letting where they really [TS]

01:08:54   sitting there so it is designed so that [TS]

01:08:56   you started going like when the it's it [TS]

01:08:58   has a database of like movies and times [TS]

01:09:00   when ok here is a sequence in which is [TS]

01:09:02   just like three guys doing a riff on [TS]

01:09:05   this one joke at last two-and-a-half [TS]

01:09:06   minutes right here right now is a good [TS]

01:09:08   time to get up and go to the bathroom [TS]

01:09:09   you need to as you will note you will [TS]

01:09:11   miss nothing [TS]

01:09:12   you know the the animated lord of the [TS]

01:09:14   rings movies you're making fun of before [TS]

01:09:16   the show the ralphs actually wanted [TS]

01:09:18   everything I think actually actually [TS]

01:09:19   over someone after the return of the [TS]

01:09:21   movie the ending of the enemy's lord of [TS]

01:09:23   the rings movies which are not good i [TS]

01:09:24   actually i did like that ending the head [TS]

01:09:27   that fannie mae chose to do was to have [TS]

01:09:28   Gandalf look at Merry and Pippin and go [TS]

01:09:30   we'll look at you you notice that you're [TS]

01:09:32   taller than you know that your that you [TS]

01:09:35   young hobbits are taller than you older [TS]

01:09:37   hobbits and it's likely you know your [TS]

01:09:38   habits are coming to belittle people for [TS]

01:09:40   much longer and the time as the elves [TS]

01:09:42   and the magic people is gone and don't [TS]

01:09:44   support smooch aw no they did that with [TS]

01:09:46   the with them drinking the water from [TS]

01:09:47   the ends and everything and and they [TS]

01:09:48   move your butt right I kind of like [TS]

01:09:50   that's what you're looking for in the [TS]

01:09:52   end the proper end to lord of the rings [TS]

01:09:54   no matter who's doing the adaptation of [TS]

01:09:55   whatever is that the world is moving on [TS]

01:09:57   this this dramatic things happened and [TS]

01:09:59   ages over in the world has moved on how [TS]

01:10:01   do you express that the elves leave the [TS]

01:10:03   hobbits the showers and what it used to [TS]

01:10:05   be you can have the scouring of the [TS]

01:10:06   shower you can have the hobbits getting [TS]

01:10:07   taller my long-winded contention about [TS]

01:10:09   talkin is every talking everything is [TS]

01:10:12   better in the past and every word you [TS]

01:10:14   read in the book is the thing the word [TS]

01:10:16   you just read it was better than and you [TS]

01:10:18   know you get the next book it's like [TS]

01:10:19   everything is degrading falling apart [TS]

01:10:21   whatever simulating what we like we got [TS]

01:10:24   to the third age it's the age of man oh [TS]

01:10:26   man this sucks i mean like it i usually [TS]

01:10:30   using the phrase from the dark tower the [TS]

01:10:31   world is moving on is it good it's a bad [TS]

01:10:33   it is what it is you know the world has [TS]

01:10:35   moved on since chain and like I when I [TS]

01:10:37   was a kid I always viewed as good as [TS]

01:10:38   like oh you know all that magic elf [TS]

01:10:40   stuff and everything but not get out of [TS]

01:10:41   the house hands time and our time magic [TS]

01:10:44   isn't there it's just it's you know that [TS]

01:10:45   that heroin there's no more magic is [TS]

01:10:47   just heroism and [TS]

01:10:48   man who live normal lifespans that don't [TS]

01:10:50   have any wizards or giant eagles and [TS]

01:10:52   we're just going to do it for ourselves [TS]

01:10:53   it's man time now man yeah so gentle so [TS]

01:10:56   that's a true triangles [TS]

01:10:59   let's go back well i can tell by the by [TS]

01:11:01   the clock on the wall in the beginning [TS]

01:11:03   of the 10 minutes of end credits that [TS]

01:11:05   are about to run that we should probably [TS]

01:11:06   trouble in the plan again I know you can [TS]

01:11:08   learn interesting dream probably wrap i [TS]

01:11:11   just want to tell the good luck the here [TS]

01:11:13   we go [TS]

01:11:13   I'm going in we should probably wrap up [TS]

01:11:15   this edition [TS]

01:11:17   this is we were covering I know this is [TS]
