00:03:04 ◼   ► feeling I guess unfulfilled a little bit [TS]

00:03:18 ◼   ► their little life they're not [TS]

00:03:19 ◼   ► necessarily their surviving right but [TS]

00:03:23 ◼   ► they're not necessarily these altruistic [TS]

00:03:25 ◼   ► people there it's him in a survivalist [TS]

00:03:27 ◼   ► kind of shooting anybody who comes near [TS]

00:03:29 ◼   ► them in in this airport but he yearns [TS]

00:04:29 ◼   ► come down yeah because he has this sad [TS]

00:04:31 ◼   ► you know every time he's flying here he [TS]

00:04:34 ◼   ► runs through like the the the intercom [TS]

00:04:36 ◼   ► the tower the tower communications just [TS]

00:04:38 ◼   ► in case there's somebody out there and [TS]

00:04:39 ◼   ► one time he hears from like a far-off [TS]

00:04:41 ◼   ► location that's I guess he could fly [TS]

00:04:43 ◼   ► there but he couldn't get he wouldn't [TS]

00:04:44 ◼   ► have enough fuel to get back and [TS]

00:04:45 ◼   ► everything is calculated by I need to [TS]

00:04:47 ◼   ► have at least half a tank so I can get [TS]

00:04:48 ◼   ► back to my home airport and and I it is [TS]

00:04:53 ◼   ► I do have some questions I mean that the [TS]

00:04:55 ◼   ► the author who is a pilot obviously he [TS]

00:04:59 ◼   ► he makes this whole sort of thing about [TS]

00:05:01 ◼   ► how the gases it some gas is still good [TS]

00:05:04 ◼   ► and then eventually we'll have to get [TS]

00:05:05 ◼   ► the jet fuel but I kept thinking what a [TS]

00:05:07 ◼   ► luxury to in after the apocalypse be [TS]

00:05:09 ◼   ► able to just kind of fly around to [TS]

00:05:11 ◼   ► various places it's kind of a it [TS]

00:05:14 ◼   ► yeah this book want to have its cake and [TS]

00:05:16 ◼   ► eat it too like in terms of it wanted to [TS]

00:05:18 ◼   ► be like a gritty realism but it also had [TS]

00:05:22 ◼   ► a certain conceits that were built into [TS]

00:05:23 ◼   ► the be the premise of the book as an man [TS]

00:05:26 ◼   ► is dog a plane that type of thing and [TS]

00:05:29 ◼   ► they don't necessarily fit together in [TS]

00:05:32 ◼   ► any sort of logical manner you even if [TS]

00:05:33 ◼   ► you accept everything you just discussed [TS]

00:05:35 ◼   ► about the plane and everything like that [TS]

00:05:36 ◼   ► it's like you know part of the [TS]

00:05:38 ◼   ► limitation was well how much range as we [TS]

00:05:40 ◼   ► have always flying assessment like your [TS]

00:05:41 ◼   ► options for if you have the entire world [TS]

00:05:44 ◼   ► and most people are dead your options [TS]

00:05:46 ◼   ► for aircraft expand greatly so there's [TS]

00:05:48 ◼   ► no real reason that he has to be flying [TS]

00:05:50 ◼   ► around and assessment with very short [TS]

00:05:52 ◼   ► range even if you accept all the stuff [TS]

00:05:54 ◼   ► about the fuel and everyone although you [TS]

00:05:55 ◼   ► don't know how to you do know how to [TS]

00:05:57 ◼   ► have to know how to fly these certain [TS]

00:05:59 ◼   ► kinds of got all the time in the world [TS]

00:06:35 ◼   ► and those who visit orphans who have the [TS]

00:06:39 ◼   ► apocalypse and give them some stuff I'm [TS]

00:06:41 ◼   ► thinking every time you making that trip [TS]

00:06:43 ◼   ► you're losing like the last gasp that [TS]

00:06:45 ◼   ► exists in the world nobody he'd already [TS]

00:06:48 ◼   ► calculated how much he had but it [TS]

00:06:49 ◼   ► reminded me of the most recent episode [TS]

00:06:51 ◼   ► of revolution not to turn this into a TV [TS]

00:06:53 ◼   ► episode but don't know if anyone saw [TS]

00:06:54 ◼   ► that they could be increasingly [TS]

00:06:56 ◼   ► hilarious some for some reason not [TS]

00:06:58 ◼   ► cancelled television series about the [TS]

00:07:00 ◼   ► members of the things that some people [TS]

00:07:01 ◼   ► have helicopters and these are like [TS]

00:07:03 ◼   ► helicopters did like sneak up on you [TS]

00:07:06 ◼   ► like on your tippy-toes wearing their [TS]

00:07:08 ◼   ► their quiet socks and how exceptional [TS]

00:07:10 ◼   ► helicopter you go you don't know the [TS]

00:07:12 ◼   ► helicopter is there until it is [TS]

00:07:14 ◼   ► literally filling the frame of the [TS]

00:07:15 ◼   ► camera which is not zoomed in stock [TS]

00:07:17 ◼   ► account somehow open the helicopter [TS]

00:07:19 ◼   ► around that cutting off our way you can [TS]

00:07:20 ◼   ► hear a helicopter from especially in the [TS]

00:07:22 ◼   ► world wouldn't anyway so the same thing [TS]

00:07:24 ◼   ► with this plane if if your goal is not [TS]

00:07:26 ◼   ► to be killed by like the other people [TS]

00:07:28 ◼   ► who apparently are all hostile or at [TS]

00:07:30 ◼   ► least you think they're all hostile [TS]

00:07:31 ◼   ► don't fly praying this it's gonna be the [TS]

00:07:33 ◼   ► only plane of the sky you could hear [TS]

00:07:35 ◼   ► from miles and miles and miles around [TS]

00:07:37 ◼   ► I assume that's why people come to the [TS]

00:07:39 ◼   ► airport or they know that the that if [TS]

00:07:41 ◼   ► you come like within five miles of here [TS]

00:07:43 ◼   ► for your shot down but I don't like it's [TS]

00:07:45 ◼   ► it's it's that they're causing their own [TS]

00:07:47 ◼   ► problems it's ok so it if you didn't fly [TS]

00:07:50 ◼   ► the plane people wouldn't come to the [TS]

00:07:51 ◼   ► airport but they're flying a plane to [TS]

00:07:53 ◼   ► make sure they can see the people who [TS]

00:07:54 ◼   ► are coming to the airport but the only [TS]

00:07:55 ◼   ► coming because this can see your plane [TS]

00:07:56 ◼   ► from 300 miles away because it's gonna [TS]

00:07:58 ◼   ► be playing in the sky and they really [TS]

00:07:59 ◼   ► noisy like he's he's flying the plane [TS]

00:08:02 ◼   ► not just for the practical reasons of [TS]

00:08:04 ◼   ► scouting out you know the hostile forces [TS]

00:08:07 ◼   ► but i think it's his one escaped from [TS]

00:08:09 ◼   ► the horrible reality of the world right [TS]

00:08:13 ◼   ► here longer pieces and he can ya read [TS]

00:08:15 ◼   ► beyond collapse here [TS]

00:08:17 ◼   ► your options for like self-actualizing [TS]

00:08:19 ◼   ► hobbies are limited to something that's [TS]

00:08:22 ◼   ► more limited but he has a plane and fuel [TS]

00:08:24 ◼   ► and he's living in an airport so why not [TS]

00:08:27 ◼   ► he's basically got you know two things [TS]

00:08:28 ◼   ► to live for in the immediate in the [TS]

00:08:30 ◼   ► start of the book he's got his dog which [TS]

00:08:33 ◼   ► I thought was a that i found it i think [TS]

00:08:36 ◼   ► Jon might have been referencing a little [TS]

00:08:37 ◼   ► bit annoying or try to cliché to say [TS]

00:08:40 ◼   ► well I'm here and i'll have someone to [TS]

00:08:42 ◼   ► talk to because I've got my Wilson I've [TS]

00:08:43 ◼   ► got my dog and he's got is flying right [TS]

00:08:46 ◼   ► because there is nothing to do he can [TS]

00:08:47 ◼   ► hang out with [TS]

00:08:48 ◼   ► his he's got hunting and fishing right [TS]

00:08:50 ◼   ► now but he can hang out with his [TS]

00:08:51 ◼   ► neighbor who he mostly paints and yeah [TS]

00:08:53 ◼   ► the neighbor is really well-prepared for [TS]

00:08:56 ◼   ► the apocalypse prize essentially [TS]

00:08:58 ◼   ► thrilled by the existence of the Act [TS]

00:09:00 ◼   ► listen listen we've got down humans and [TS]

00:09:01 ◼   ► he's you know he's one of those [TS]

00:09:02 ◼   ► newspaper so I i did the you know I did [TS]

00:09:06 ◼   ► not at all mind the conceit of his sort [TS]

00:09:09 ◼   ► of wasting fuel from time to time and [TS]

00:09:11 ◼   ► flying around for the hell of it because [TS]

00:09:13 ◼   ► there's nothing to do but yes he can [TS]

00:09:15 ◼   ► forage for food so that he could survive [TS]

00:09:17 ◼   ► but then if you want to do anything he [TS]

00:09:18 ◼   ► i'm pretty sure they even have an iphone [TS]

00:09:20 ◼   ► which just makes it horrible [TS]

00:09:22 ◼   ► well we get into more hobbies of people [TS]

00:09:24 ◼   ► have to the apocalypse later in the book [TS]

00:09:26 ◼   ► within the ending that Scott can't [TS]

00:09:27 ◼   ► remember but when we bring it up i'm [TS]

00:09:33 ◼   ► or not the only hobbies available to you [TS]

00:09:39 ◼   ► so the heat the i would say about hige [TS]

00:09:43 ◼   ► is that he is obviously uneasy and he is [TS]

00:09:48 ◼   ► searching for something right so hehe [TS]

00:09:49 ◼   ► his his uh his companion this doomsday [TS]

00:09:53 ◼   ► prepper guy is happy to have it be [TS]

00:09:56 ◼   ► doomsday like you said and he's all [TS]

00:09:59 ◼   ► prepared and he is not happy about it i [TS]

00:10:01 ◼   ► mean he has you know he's growing things [TS]

00:10:03 ◼   ► flying around but even then he's [TS]

00:10:04 ◼   ► wandering he is that that's just part of [TS]

00:10:07 ◼   ► who he is he's wondering and searching [TS]

00:10:08 ◼   ► for something he's talking on the radio [TS]

00:10:10 ◼   ► trying to find people he's visiting the [TS]

00:10:12 ◼   ► the kids in the family that's got the [TS]

00:10:14 ◼   ► disease [TS]

00:10:15 ◼   ► he's taking these hikes up into the [TS]

00:10:17 ◼   ► mountains that his his buddy says he's [TS]

00:10:20 ◼   ► crazy for doing it he's gonna get [TS]

00:10:21 ◼   ► himself killed but and he almost does [TS]

00:10:23 ◼   ► right into lease saved by a mob by [TS]

00:10:26 ◼   ► mortar fire from his crazy his crazy [TS]

00:10:29 ◼   ► buddy at the airport but you know [TS]

00:10:32 ◼   ► clearly everything he does is because he [TS]

00:10:34 ◼   ► is he's uncomfortable he's searching [TS]

00:10:37 ◼   ► he's not he's not happy in the end the [TS]

00:10:39 ◼   ► apocalypse big surprise but his buddy is [TS]

00:10:42 ◼   ► happy and he's looking for something [TS]

00:10:43 ◼   ► right he we learn as we go [TS]

00:10:45 ◼   ► that he you know that he's lost his his [TS]

00:10:48 ◼   ► wife and and we learn about the endtime [TS]

00:10:50 ◼   ► and how you know how it all kind of fell [TS]

00:10:52 ◼   ► apart and he wants to find something [TS]

00:10:55 ◼   ► else and so and that's really the story [TS]

00:10:56 ◼   ► of the book as we get this whole first [TS]

00:10:58 ◼   ► part where it's setting up his world and [TS]

00:11:00 ◼   ► then he goes kind of [TS]

00:11:01 ◼   ► this little walkabout where he can [TS]

00:11:03 ◼   ► almost tries to get himself killed [TS]

00:11:05 ◼   ► spoiler horn [TS]

00:11:10 ◼   ► but his dog dies of natural causes not [TS]

00:11:14 ◼   ► kid not did of natural causes [TS]

00:11:17 ◼   ► well he might have also frozen to death [TS]

00:11:18 ◼   ► it's really hard to tell maybe but [TS]

00:11:20 ◼   ► that's natural process was not killed by [TS]

00:11:22 ◼   ► like zombies or anything it's right by [TS]

00:11:24 ◼   ► heat no not yet not right away he wasn't [TS]

00:11:28 ◼   ► murdered know who was not murdered the [TS]

00:11:30 ◼   ► doctor was dr. it's not murdered and he [TS]

00:11:32 ◼   ► comes back from any almost gets killed [TS]

00:11:34 ◼   ► and that there's that whole section but [TS]

00:11:36 ◼   ► but with the story you know in some ways [TS]

00:11:38 ◼   ► it is really about is what happens next [TS]

00:11:39 ◼   ► which is he says I gotta get out of here [TS]

00:11:41 ◼   ► I'm gonna I'm gonna follow that that [TS]

00:11:43 ◼   ► stray thing that I heard on the radio [TS]

00:11:45 ◼   ► that's going to take me out of range and [TS]

00:11:47 ◼   ► it's i'm making a risk but I'm not I'm [TS]

00:11:51 ◼   ► this is a book a bit about a guy who has [TS]

00:11:53 ◼   ► survived the apocalypse and and still [TS]

00:12:41 ◼   ► from kroger yeah i think but Percy that [TS]

00:12:44 ◼   ► particular style especially early on [TS]

00:12:46 ◼   ► when he sort of giving the quick [TS]

00:12:47 ◼   ► background on like what happened and how [TS]

00:12:49 ◼   ► like you know people were telling people [TS]

00:12:53 ◼   ► write that by sickness is your fevers [TS]

00:12:55 ◼   ► would kill them like the fluid they [TS]

00:12:56 ◼   ► would die and then some people live with [TS]

00:12:57 ◼   ► this blood disease and at one point in [TS]
