00:04:17 ◼   ► know hits someone over the head or hits [TS]

00:04:18 ◼   ► any creature with a log and she is [TS]

00:04:21 ◼   ► pretty much the only woman in the entire [TS]

00:05:23 ◼   ► clothes on a mini turns cases like [TS]

00:05:25 ◼   ► strategically plays and she is [TS]

00:05:27 ◼   ► incredibly sort of petty and cliff is [TS]

00:05:30 ◼   ► not much better he is kind of a [TS]

00:05:31 ◼   ► boozehound and a super jealous and all [TS]

00:05:33 ◼   ► this like for a cup for a comic that's [TS]

00:05:35 ◼   ► supposed to be sort of a light-hearted [TS]

00:05:36 ◼   ► pulp none of the characters seem very [TS]

00:05:39 ◼   ► sympathetic so yeah I think the movie [TS]

00:05:42 ◼   ► actually does a service to the comic [TS]

00:05:44 ◼   ► book in making this much more of a [TS]

00:05:47 ◼   ► certainly family-friendly movie and [TS]

00:05:50 ◼   ► certainly more palatable and sympathetic [TS]

00:06:48 ◼   ► coincident look I love jennifer connelly [TS]

00:06:52 ◼   ► apparently went to college with Glenn [TS]

00:06:53 ◼   ► uncle ending by remote is the worst kind [TS]

00:06:56 ◼   ► of way and you know she have went on to [TS]

00:07:19 ◼   ► talking about in slack it's definitely [TS]

00:07:21 ◼   ► the case that like this is a this is a [TS]

00:07:23 ◼   ► boy's story basically a boy's life boys [TS]

00:07:26 ◼   ► a great adventure story in fact I will [TS]

00:07:28 ◼   ► say and this is a tie into our the fact [TS]

00:07:30 ◼   ► that it's our member period here the [TS]

00:07:34 ◼   ► raiders lost ark you know has the same [TS]

00:07:36 ◼   ► issue right we watched raiders of the [TS]

00:07:38 ◼   ► lost ark for a special member episode [TS]

00:07:39 ◼   ► and you know Karen Allen is the only [TS]

00:07:42 ◼   ► woman in that and she hits a guy over [TS]

00:07:44 ◼   ► ahead with a log at one point and she's [TS]

00:07:47 ◼   ► a very spunky capable character but [TS]

00:07:49 ◼   ► again it's the one woman who is the [TS]

00:07:52 ◼   ► heroes love interest who doesn't have a [TS]

00:07:55 ◼   ► lot to do and and Jennifer Connelly is [TS]

00:07:57 ◼   ► stuck in that same in that same spire [TS]

00:07:59 ◼   ► and both movies are you know they're [TS]

00:08:02 ◼   ► specifically aping a certain style and [TS]

00:08:04 ◼   ► period and everything and you know I [TS]

00:08:06 ◼   ► think Raiders at least she's a lot [TS]

00:08:09 ◼   ► sharper she's able to hold her own [TS]

00:08:11 ◼   ► against the characters whereas in this [TS]

00:08:14 ◼   ► she the characters a little bit more [TS]

00:08:16 ◼   ► girly in a preoperative sense and I [TS]

00:08:21 ◼   ► think they went too far thinking well [TS]

00:08:23 ◼   ► how would we do this if it were 1938 [TS]

00:08:26 ◼   ► whereas in Raiders it's like you know [TS]

00:08:28 ◼   ► okay this is what we're gonna do we're [TS]

00:08:30 ◼   ► is here they're like well all the [TS]

00:08:31 ◼   ► Germans would be white guys and well all [TS]

00:08:33 ◼   ► the people in Hollywood films would be [TS]

00:08:35 ◼   ► white guys and you know it it's just [TS]

00:08:37 ◼   ► it's like I don't think that was even on [TS]

00:08:40 ◼   ► their radar well right I mean Raiders is [TS]

00:08:42 ◼   ► obviously a huge inspiration point for [TS]

00:08:44 ◼   ► this movie as well very clearly I mean [TS]

00:08:46 ◼   ► this the scene later on with Dalton [TS]

00:08:49 ◼   ► giving Jennifer Connelly the dress is [TS]

00:08:51 ◼   ► Bella yep and Marion oh yes the same [TS]

00:08:53 ◼   ► exact same based on it good call there's [TS]

00:08:56 ◼   ► a number of things like that where I [TS]

00:08:57 ◼   ► might better [TS]

00:08:58 ◼   ► rest of the rocketeer better doesn't [TS]

00:08:59 ◼   ► have that doesn't have the flower on the [TS]

00:09:01 ◼   ► butt but like same thing where it's used [TS]

00:09:04 ◼   ► trick right like there's a lot of beats [TS]

00:09:09 ◼   ► production goes it seems to be [TS]

00:09:10 ◼   ► intentional because a lot of what I came [TS]

00:09:13 ◼   ► from what I gather they were pointing to [TS]

00:09:15 ◼   ► Raiders as a successful franchise that [TS]

00:09:16 ◼   ► would let them set this in the 30s [TS]

00:09:18 ◼   ► rather than trying to modernize it as [TS]

00:09:20 ◼   ► some of the earlier arguments were that [TS]

00:09:23 ◼   ► it should be which would have been [TS]

00:09:24 ◼   ► really really bad apparently they wanted [TS]

00:09:27 ◼   ► like a NASA helmet for him was like no [TS]

00:09:30 ◼   ► no no that's kinda not the point you [TS]

00:09:33 ◼   ► know you guys you must have seen a [TS]

00:09:35 ◼   ► different movie than I did because when [TS]

00:09:37 ◼   ► this movie came out I was ten years old [TS]

00:09:39 ◼   ► and I had some very complicated thoughts [TS]

00:09:42 ◼   ► about Jennifer camellias 10 year old oh [TS]

00:09:47 ◼   ► her as a 20 it was 20 and my thoughts [TS]

00:09:49 ◼   ► about her we're not complicated at all [TS]

00:09:50 ◼   ► case and I say I'd say that jokingly but [TS]

00:09:55 ◼   ► but all snark aside I mean she was 20 [TS]

00:09:58 ◼   ► and she wasn't even 21 with us when this [TS]

00:10:02 ◼   ► when she was like 19 or 20 years old and [TS]

00:10:03 ◼   ► in I was barely alive at 20 years old as [TS]

00:10:08 ◼   ► barely scrape two words together and [TS]

00:10:10 ◼   ► here was I mean III don't think this is [TS]

00:10:12 ◼   ► an oscar-winning performance because of [TS]

00:10:15 ◼   ► that it wasn't that much of a [TS]

00:10:16 ◼   ► performance but every scene she was in I [TS]

00:10:18 ◼   ► thought she did a phenomenal job and and [TS]

00:10:20 ◼   ► I thought I thought she handled it [TS]

00:10:22 ◼   ► really really well and I thought that [TS]

00:10:23 ◼   ► she was more than as you said than just [TS]

00:10:25 ◼   ► a damsel in distress and and it's funny [TS]

00:10:27 ◼   ► because I would agree that she was not a [TS]

00:10:30 ◼   ► critical role maybe that's not the best [TS]

00:10:33 ◼   ► word for it but she was not she was not [TS]

00:10:35 ◼   ► a frequent seen Yoshi you wouldn't see [TS]

00:10:40 ◼   ► her that much but nevertheless I don't [TS]

00:10:42 ◼   ► reflect on this movie and think that she [TS]

00:10:44 ◼   ► was an afterthought I reflect on it and [TS]

00:11:27 ◼   ► not actually how the movie is laid out [TS]

00:11:31 ◼   ► it as a writer and watching it in terms [TS]

00:11:37 ◼   ► done that with this and you know it's [TS]

00:11:40 ◼   ► like I know that it went through many [TS]

00:11:43 ◼   ► many rewrites and many many revisions in [TS]

00:11:45 ◼   ► many many you know let's let's do this [TS]

00:11:47 ◼   ► outline those two that I well they like [TS]

00:11:49 ◼   ► this from the old outline and they've [TS]

00:11:50 ◼   ► you know they just it it's like this [TS]

00:11:52 ◼   ► weird Frankenstein monster of scripts [TS]

00:11:54 ◼   ► and outlines and it almost feels and I'm [TS]

00:11:59 ◼   ► saying this as someone who loves the [TS]

00:12:00 ◼   ► movie it does still feel like it needed [TS]

00:12:02 ◼   ► one more polish or two because it's sort [TS]

00:12:05 ◼   ► of like it's a very linear here's where [TS]

00:12:07 ◼   ► we go from here and this leads to this [TS]

00:12:09 ◼   ► and oh what if she's an actress and she [TS]

00:12:11 ◼   ► connects this and oh what if she's at [TS]

00:12:13 ◼   ► the club when they're doing the thing [TS]

00:12:15 ◼   ► and it's it's very easy i see i disagree [TS]

00:12:18 ◼   ► i'm at very i think it's very yeah is [TS]

00:12:20 ◼   ► very schematic but i think it's also [TS]

00:12:22 ◼   ► very tightly plotted in that way in that [TS]

00:12:24 ◼   ► there there is nothing extraneous about [TS]

00:12:25 ◼   ► it exactly but it could it could use a [TS]

00:12:27 ◼   ► little extraneous it could use a little [TS]

00:12:30 ◼   ► breathing I think it's a Walt Disney [TS]

00:12:31 ◼   ► picture from 1981 that's the amount of [TS]

00:12:34 ◼   ► extraneous that needs the only Campbell [TS]

00:12:36 ◼   ► I went to mention now it Billy Campbell [TS]

00:12:38 ◼   ► is actually a lot older than Jennifer [TS]

00:12:40 ◼   ► Connelly um and and and yet here's the [TS]

00:12:44 ◼   ► thing Billy Campbell is uh he's boyish [TS]

00:12:48 ◼   ► he just is he he's a boyish fellow and [TS]

00:12:51 ◼   ► so I I don't have a problem with that [TS]

00:12:53 ◼   ► part at all the fact that they don't [TS]

00:12:55 ◼   ► feel like they're you know more than a [TS]

00:12:57 ◼   ► decade apart in age because the reason [TS]

00:13:00 ◼   ► that Billy Campbell works in this part [TS]

00:13:01 ◼   ► as cliff who discovers the rocket pack [TS]

00:13:04 ◼   ► and start inputs on and get the helmet [TS]

00:13:06 ◼   ► and starts to fly around and thinks it's [TS]

00:13:07 ◼   ► fun is that he is so boyish and it is [TS]

00:13:10 ◼   ► like I said it's in an adventure story [TS]

00:13:11 ◼   ► like this you kind of want to have that [TS]

00:13:13 ◼   ► golly golly gee whiz your kind of [TS]

00:13:16 ◼   ► harkening back to that era and that's [TS]

00:13:18 ◼   ► that's what Billy Campbell has in spades [TS]

00:13:19 ◼   ► here right like this is what this part [TS]

00:13:22 ◼   ► requires and it's what he gives the part [TS]

00:13:24 ◼   ► after after this movie [TS]

00:13:26 ◼   ► and partly because of Billy Campbell's [TS]

00:13:28 ◼   ► performance I did go back to the you [TS]

00:13:29 ◼   ► know I had always seen the comic but I'd [TS]

00:13:31 ◼   ► never picked it up and I went back and [TS]

00:13:32 ◼   ► read it at the time and was very [TS]
