00:00:29   Jason Snell and tonight we're going to [TS]

00:00:31   be talking about a fine fine film some [TS]

00:00:35   might say one of the classics it not [TS]

00:00:39   just of recent memory but of all time I [TS]

00:00:43   might actually make that proposal but we [TS]

00:00:46   will get we will will take some time [TS]

00:00:47   introducing people when i mentioned that [TS]

00:00:49   the movie i'm talking about is Groundhog [TS]

00:00:51   Day starring bill murray who is beloved [TS]

00:00:56   as well as other actors who are less [TS]

00:00:59   love it [TS]

00:01:00   ante in deed joining me to talk about [TS]

00:01:04   groundhog day are fine group of people [TS]

00:01:19   that this is a movie is a classic ships [TS]

00:01:21   others is also out there hi chip [TS]

00:01:23   Jason I'm reliving the same podcast over [TS]

00:01:26   and over the incomparable Groundhog Day [TS]

00:01:28   review today [TS]

00:01:29   that's right how'd it go in previous [TS]

00:01:31   loops chip dammit you called me out [TS]

00:01:35   dan Frakes joins us who is a an [TS]

00:01:38   occasional participant in this little [TS]

00:01:40   podcaster virus High Dam [TS]

00:01:42   hello Jason occasional it's good to have [TS]

00:01:44   you here thank you [TS]

00:01:45   do you have a reference for me know okay [TS]

00:01:48   I'm here because my wife hates this [TS]

00:01:50   movie and this is the only time I get to [TS]

00:01:51   talk about it so well there are people [TS]

00:01:54   that hate this movie [TS]

00:01:55   dan needlenose dan dan the head oh [TS]

00:01:58   that's right yeah and Monty actually is [TS]

00:02:01   also the also here hi Monty hi i can [TS]

00:02:04   think of a lot of references but I have [TS]

00:02:05   this weird feeling that somebody else [TS]

00:02:07   has already done them already [TS]

00:02:09   haha yes [TS]

00:02:12   previous universe so I 1983 little bit [TS]

00:02:17   let's let's get some things out of the [TS]

00:02:18   way here [TS]

00:02:18   first off that I'm your wet I'm your [TS]

00:02:21   weatherman song [TS]

00:02:22   is atrocious and must be can i love it [TS]

00:02:27   necessarily because we're like harold [TS]

00:02:29   ramis incident not not a not a good song [TS]

00:02:31   i disagree completely i love that song [TS]

00:02:34   everytime i hear it starting up like I [TS]

00:02:35   was grooving on the couch I don't know [TS]

00:02:37   what stephen thought I was doing but I [TS]

00:02:39   was having a very good time I enjoy the [TS]

00:02:41   list [TS]

00:02:41   it's better when the work before the [TS]

00:02:42   word start but once the word start is [TS]

00:02:45   not know the way it's ridiculous but I [TS]

00:02:47   like ridiculous it is very much of its [TS]

00:02:50   time [TS]

00:02:51   yes that yeah i'll make you smile game [TS]

00:02:55   if you don't win [TS]

00:02:59   take me about can't you [TS]

00:03:06   and then this was my larger point is [TS]

00:03:10   it's got that it's got the goofy song [TS]

00:03:12   there's so many things in this that [TS]

00:03:14   would lead you to believe that this is a [TS]

00:03:15   kind of disposable early nineties comedy [TS]

00:03:21   romantic comedy the poster also with [TS]

00:03:24   Bill Murray throwing up his hands in a [TS]

00:03:26   clock in an alarm clock as and Miguel [TS]

00:03:29   does a sort of sears photo studio pose [TS]

00:03:33   with a fist on her chin really just the [TS]

00:03:36   existence of Andie McDowell and I was [TS]

00:03:38   going to say and then also the existence [TS]

00:03:40   of Annie miquelon chris elliott as [TS]

00:03:42   supporting players in this film Lee [TS]

00:03:45   would lead you to believe that this [TS]

00:03:46   might not be a film added to the united [TS]

00:03:48   states national film registry as [TS]

00:03:51   culturally historically wrong or [TS]

00:03:53   aesthetically significant' but indeed it [TS]

00:03:55   has [TS]

00:03:56   so I guess that that might be where I [TS]

00:03:59   want to start is the credits over the [TS]

00:04:01   clouds don't both very well well you [TS]

00:04:05   know you get some stock footage of blue [TS]

00:04:07   sky with some clouds to make sense later [TS]

00:04:10   but it doesn't really get the juices [TS]

00:04:12   flowing for the fellow mile thick not [TS]

00:04:14   well erica was was bobbing and weaving [TS]

00:04:16   during that sure was a series is all [TS]

00:04:19   those clouds i was you know and i think [TS]

00:04:20   this is definitely a case of the the the [TS]

00:04:23   some it is greater than the sum of its [TS]

00:04:25   parts because yeah if that weatherman [TS]

00:04:27   song was in a different movie and [TS]

00:04:29   probably wouldn't have the nice fuzzy [TS]

00:04:30   warm feelings toward that I do i forgot [TS]

00:04:32   existed frankly until I was such a short [TS]

00:04:35   time the movie of the song the song i [TS]

00:04:37   remember the movie very well I know that [TS]

00:04:39   guitar parts on another guitar far apart [TS]

00:04:41   from the store man cause it's in the DVD [TS]

00:04:44   menu and like oh yeah right away it just [TS]

00:04:47   got about a PowerPoint file right we're [TS]

00:04:50   just having different originally because [TS]

00:04:51   mine plays the score [TS]

00:04:54   Jason you have the DVD i have which has [TS]

00:04:56   like the old almost like it looks like [TS]

00:04:58   Annie world cartoon city and that might [TS]

00:05:02   be right i I have a very early DVD and [TS]

00:05:04   then I just got the blu-ray [TS]

00:05:06   last year so nobody why have the blu-ray [TS]

00:05:08   the 15th anniversary edition that very [TS]

00:05:10   nice menu with the score over in the [TS]

00:05:12   middle of miles from my calendars and [TS]

00:05:16   then there's some heated shots of the [TS]

00:05:18   phil getting slapped [TS]

00:05:20   now that's better oh no I'm old-school [TS]

00:05:22   I've got a clear original DVD cartoon [TS]

00:05:24   punxsutawney layout map ya that ya might [TS]

00:05:27   be more grading just to get rid of that [TS]

00:05:29   guitar I don't they have room for me to [TS]

00:05:31   go on an hour long rant about how men [TS]

00:05:34   you should just not have sound on them [TS]

00:05:36   at all [TS]

00:05:37   oh I might be right there with ya it's [TS]

00:05:40   so good just saying I watched it on [TS]

00:05:41   amazon streaming video on a reading the [TS]

00:05:44   imac with chris elliott walking around [TS]

00:05:46   carrying a betacam and it just broke my [TS]

00:05:48   mind it is it's an old movie now I guess [TS]

00:05:51   issued this should be old movie club [TS]

00:05:53   this movie is 22 years old now you can [TS]

00:05:56   say that don't so no no this yeah I must [TS]

00:05:59   got the DVD very very early that there [TS]

00:06:00   was a blu-ray sale i think it [TS]

00:06:02   conveniently like about a week after [TS]

00:06:04   Groundhog Day last year when that they [TS]

00:06:05   had run out the prices in advance of [TS]

00:06:07   Groundhog Day and then afterward there [TS]

00:06:09   was a sale and blu-ray was like seven [TS]

00:06:10   bucks or something huh [TS]

00:06:12   looks good looks good on blu-ray the HD [TS]

00:06:15   version is very nice [TS]

00:06:16   we need a screenshot of that of the old [TS]

00:06:18   one Jason I do have that somewhere i [TS]

00:06:20   should actually take that awful DVD out [TS]

00:06:22   because it is it's very bad it's it's so [TS]

00:06:25   bad anyway the movie is not bad although [TS]

00:06:28   ok so the funny thing about this movie [TS]

00:06:31   the remarkable thing about this movie [TS]

00:06:32   right is that obviously Bill Murray is [TS]

00:06:35   stuck in a time loop he lives groundhog [TS]

00:06:37   day over and over again [TS]

00:06:39   spoilers for Groundhog Day you know [TS]

00:06:41   seven groundhog day are you listening to [TS]

00:06:44   this [TS]

00:06:44   what is wrong with you if you haven't [TS]

00:06:47   seen the movie and right you listen to a [TS]

00:06:49   podcast about groundhog day and then get [TS]

00:06:50   mad at us when it turned out to be about [TS]

00:06:52   groundhog day yeah haha they thought it [TS]

00:06:54   was about the holiday [TS]

00:06:55   yeah salute to ground it was like one [TS]

00:06:58   listener out there who's like quietly [TS]

00:07:00   talking to be dissing me I'm sorry [TS]

00:07:02   listener but you should stop and watch [TS]

00:07:04   and watch the movie anyway what what [TS]

00:07:07   struck me this time watching it is all [TS]

00:07:09   the scenes before they get get to [TS]

00:07:12   Punxsutawney seem like like everything [TS]

00:07:16   else seem like out of another left [TS]

00:07:19   the movie the whole he's got his whole [TS]

00:07:22   weatherman stick at the TV station in [TS]

00:07:24   Pittsburgh where he's in front of the [TS]

00:07:26   blue screen doing his his wacky [TS]

00:07:30   weatherman sort of like when David [TS]

00:07:31   Letterman was a weatherman Indiana I [TS]

00:07:33   think I I me like it's a very similar [TS]

00:07:35   kind of thing he's it these are the [TS]

00:07:37   jokes folks and obviously the the [TS]

00:07:39   anchorwoman hates him and everybody else [TS]

00:07:42   hates him argument it all just seems so [TS]

00:07:45   it's like something out of a totally [TS]

00:07:47   different movie and i find it it must [TS]

00:07:49   mean something that my brain just [TS]

00:07:50   completely blocks out everything before [TS]

00:07:52   we get to Punxsutawney i was watching [TS]

00:07:55   the the the director commentary and [TS]

00:07:58   Danny Ruben was saying that actually [TS]

00:08:00   that was never supposed to be in the [TS]

00:08:01   movie when he wrote the original [TS]

00:08:03   screenplay [TS]

00:08:04   he wanted the movie to start right where [TS]

00:08:06   where the things are happening over and [TS]

00:08:09   over and over he didn't want any of the [TS]

00:08:11   backstory he didn't think it mattered [TS]

00:08:12   and harold ramis had to say you've got [TS]

00:08:14   to set it up people have to like no [TS]

00:08:16   that's guy's a jerk beforehand and [TS]

00:08:17   they've got to know you know what she [TS]

00:08:19   was coming from and why there and and it [TS]

00:08:22   was a big point of debate actually [TS]

00:08:24   between them and / the the DVD [TS]

00:08:26   commentary Ramos told him for sure that [TS]

00:08:29   that is the one thing he would not [TS]

00:08:30   change about his script it turns out [TS]

00:08:31   that was the first thing that changed [TS]

00:08:33   the batteries Korea which i think is [TS]

00:08:35   great because it would be to me a much [TS]

00:08:38   lesser movie if it started somewhere in [TS]

00:08:39   the middle of the it needs the origin [TS]

00:08:42   story I think well indeed the origin [TS]

00:08:43   story but as far as I'm concerned you [TS]

00:08:45   can start with his first time going [TS]

00:08:47   through that day you can rely on Bill [TS]

00:08:49   Murray to convey that this character is [TS]

00:08:51   a Dirk and no one likes him [TS]

00:08:53   just on the first iteration of Groundhog [TS]

00:08:56   Day certainly in my head that's where [TS]

00:08:57   the movie starts [TS]

00:08:59   possibly because everything and that [TS]

00:09:00   they happen so many times that right we [TS]

00:09:02   need we need time to be introduced to [TS]

00:09:04   the other great characters in this how [TS]

00:09:07   could we do without the the whimsical [TS]

00:09:09   andie macdowell playing in front of the [TS]

00:09:11   blue screens and that's that [TS]

00:09:14   well it helps that there's 12 times as [TS]

00:09:16   much Stephen Tobolowsky as there is [TS]

00:09:18   anybody else the I i would also say [TS]

00:09:22   something about this that struck me was [TS]

00:09:23   when they get to Punxsutawney on the on [TS]

00:09:26   on the first I'm also surprised it out [TS]

00:09:30   how perfunctory that is I think it's an [TS]

00:09:32   interest [TS]

00:09:33   a choice that we spend time in the [TS]

00:09:34   weather you weather Center than in the [TS]

00:09:37   newsroom for the and the TV set in [TS]

00:09:39   Pittsburgh where we learn that Phil is [TS]

00:09:41   you know not very happy and not very [TS]

00:09:43   well-liked and all these things and and [TS]

00:09:46   almost no time in Punxsutawney where I [TS]

00:09:48   was wondering to myself maybe it [TS]

00:09:50   would've been better to start the movie [TS]

00:09:51   with them coming in to Punxsutawney and [TS]

00:09:53   setting up Phil is kind of an unpleasant [TS]

00:09:55   person there but we never leave the [TS]

00:09:56   outskirts you know the boundary of [TS]

00:09:58   Punxsutawney because as it is they get [TS]

00:10:01   there and you know they're they're going [TS]

00:10:03   to the cheap hotel and he's gonna [TS]

00:10:04   complain and be a prima donna right [TS]

00:10:06   prima donnas right i'm donna and she's [TS]

00:10:10   like oh no we're going to drop you off [TS]

00:10:11   here and he's like alright and then and [TS]

00:10:13   then cut to its the next morning and I i [TS]

00:10:15   always think like what what did you do [TS]

00:10:18   that night did he do anything [TS]

00:10:20   interesting you know have been thinking [TS]

00:10:22   that tomorrow would be a normal day and [TS]

00:10:24   the answer is nope nope no time for that [TS]

00:10:26   Sonny and Cher need to play let's just [TS]

00:10:27   move along and I think that's a little [TS]

00:10:29   strange i wonder if the if the movie [TS]

00:10:30   might have been better if they had just [TS]

00:10:34   started in Punxsutawney on the evening [TS]

00:10:36   of the first rather than having the [TS]

00:10:37   Pittsburgh thing i don't know i don't [TS]

00:10:38   think so I like the contrast I like the [TS]

00:10:40   fact that we do get a little bit of time [TS]

00:10:43   that's outside punxsutawney where things [TS]

00:10:45   change and things progress and then all [TS]

00:10:48   of a sudden he's in the wormhole and [TS]

00:10:50   there and there we go [TS]

00:10:51   it's also nice to see where he's coming [TS]

00:10:53   from you know he spends a lot of time [TS]

00:10:54   talking about how he he wants to move on [TS]

00:10:57   and become you don't do something better [TS]

00:10:58   and he acts like such a prima donna but [TS]

00:11:01   we've seen in the beginning of the film [TS]

00:11:02   now she was going to have anything to be [TS]

00:11:04   a prima donna about he's not really his [TS]

00:11:07   job [TS]

00:11:08   no just call himself the talent he's [TS]

00:11:10   always be not only and that is the thing [TS]

00:11:13   the TV people saying I always thought it [TS]

00:11:15   was ridiculous but that the best one [TS]

00:11:16   right is that you know how it there's [TS]

00:11:18   not gonna be any snow it's gonna be fine [TS]

00:11:20   it's gonna miss us the blizzards not [TS]

00:11:21   going to happen and he and every gonna [TS]

00:11:23   every day he gets hit with the fact that [TS]

00:11:26   he made the wrong protection as you [TS]

00:11:28   cycle through he's a very bad weatherman [TS]

00:11:30   so something I noticed that for the [TS]

00:11:32   first time when I was watching this time [TS]

00:11:34   was that as a drive into punxsutawney [TS]

00:11:36   they pass by the Alpine theatre which is [TS]

00:11:39   is presume the one theater in [TS]

00:11:40   Punxsutawney right Heidi 10 and it's [TS]

00:11:43   playing I'd had never seen that Heidi [TS]

00:11:44   too [TS]

00:11:45   classic was the one movie he was stuck [TS]

00:11:47   with and then you and then it turns out [TS]

00:11:50   later when he's a when he shows up at [TS]

00:11:52   the film with the dresses Clint Eastwood [TS]

00:11:54   wouldn't have made my he he talks about [TS]

00:11:57   how he loves this movie he's seen it [TS]

00:11:58   over a hundred times [TS]

00:12:00   that's the film he had to watch over a [TS]

00:12:02   hundred times it's heidi to you too [TS]

00:12:05   Emily classic I which doesn't exist by [TS]

00:12:07   our way there is no Heidi to unless you [TS]

00:12:09   count the fact that there is a Heidi to [TS]

00:12:10   which is a pornographic German feeling [TS]

00:12:12   pretty kind of class family classic the [TS]

00:12:16   Marquis is referring to Rome and explain [TS]

00:12:18   her costume when he takes the french [TS]

00:12:20   maid that's just why I just always [TS]

00:12:22   assumed it was wishful thinking on [TS]

00:12:23   Harold Ramis part yeah you're creating [TS]

00:12:26   your own world some of a perfect world [TS]

00:12:28   to its yeah always dreamed up its really [TS]

00:12:30   could have made Heidi to why wouldn't he [TS]

00:12:32   do that [TS]

00:12:33   well he died too soon taken us one of [TS]

00:12:36   the great games to play with this movie [TS]

00:12:37   is to try to guess how long he bill [TS]

00:12:40   murray spending his time loop and and [TS]

00:12:42   that's one of those moments that gives [TS]

00:12:44   you some perspective on the the depths [TS]

00:12:46   of of how he's lived this life is that [TS]

00:12:48   he's he's watched Heidi to like a [TS]

00:12:51   hundred times Heidi too and that's that [TS]

00:12:54   certainly didn't watch that every night [TS]

00:12:56   no I hate those trivia questions that I [TS]

00:12:59   see sometimes it asking how many times [TS]

00:13:01   to Bill Murray lived through his life in [TS]

00:13:02   Groundhog Day and the answer is always [TS]

00:13:04   whatever however mean more like you [TS]

00:13:06   however many you see on screen and it's [TS]

00:13:08   clear that that is not how many there [TS]

00:13:10   are it i mean in that this is one of the [TS]

00:13:12   few movies I've ever watched the DVD [TS]

00:13:14   extras for because I'm not usually a fan [TS]

00:13:16   of the VAM the value-added material but [TS]

00:13:18   this one was really interesting talking [TS]

00:13:20   I think it's harold ramis talking about [TS]

00:13:21   how how dark this movie actually is the [TS]

00:13:24   the number of lifetime's that this poor [TS]

00:13:27   guy has lived over and over and over [TS]

00:13:28   again [TS]

00:13:29   I mean I did that when you get to the [TS]

00:13:31   suicide part it makes sense the original [TS]

00:13:34   script was even darker it was I think [TS]

00:13:36   the original treatment it was supposed [TS]

00:13:38   to be like about 10,000 years yeah well [TS]

00:13:41   just the piano like crazy practicing the [TS]

00:13:44   piano one hour a day [TS]

00:13:46   yes but everything [TS]

00:13:48   and maybe not even everyday i'm sure [TS]

00:13:50   there are some days he decided he just [TS]

00:13:52   wanted to flip cards into a hat [TS]

00:13:54   I'm gonna assume that's the only song he [TS]

00:13:56   knows good yeah I think that's probably [TS]

00:13:59   right well he played at the day several [TS]

00:14:01   he played me played aren't you want for [TS]

00:14:03   my improv jazz and everything what's not [TS]

00:14:05   improv if you know exactly what's [TS]

00:14:07   happening tonight everybody in the world [TS]

00:14:09   and every second yeah [TS]

00:14:11   oh don't know he had to work on those [TS]

00:14:13   was faking process euphoric own back 2x [TS]

00:14:16   take what I'm gonna try and be sharp [TS]

00:14:18   there [TS]

00:14:18   oh now I've got something but several a [TS]

00:14:22   third he becomes the least popular man [TS]

00:14:24   in town because he can no longer do [TS]

00:14:25   everything else but also he robbed that [TS]

00:14:27   Bank i assumed afterwards that he [TS]

00:14:29   retained all that knowledge maybe yeah [TS]

00:14:31   artistic but I think so absolutely i [TS]

00:14:34   mean look okay with it he's a god let's [TS]

00:14:36   get it let's go you're not the god just [TS]

00:14:38   a guy's guy I i do love that I love to [TS]

00:14:40   be a barking dog but whenever he's [TS]

00:14:43   walking through the day where you get [TS]

00:14:45   the sense that he's just reading writing [TS]

00:14:46   the script of the day barking dog or [TS]

00:14:48   Cobra our media picks up the pics of the [TS]

00:14:52   bag of money and then when he does that [TS]

00:14:53   for reading in the diner and and and and [TS]

00:14:57   then goes through who everybody is and [TS]

00:14:58   how he knows every single fact there is [TS]

00:15:01   to know every atom of everything in this [TS]

00:15:04   town he knows at this point that's that [TS]

00:15:06   moment of of you know you think I'm [TS]

00:15:08   crazy but I can prove that I can i [TS]

00:15:10   actually have all these things you [TS]

00:15:11   realize he has spent literally you know [TS]

00:15:14   air every amount of time you could ever [TS]

00:15:17   conceive of a lifetime in this one day [TS]

00:15:19   and this in this one town knows it [TS]

00:15:20   completely that moment reminds me of a [TS]

00:15:23   video game you played a lot where you [TS]

00:15:25   can walk into the letter say [TS]

00:15:26   all right that guy has the script that [TS]

00:15:28   guy is this script at exactly six turned [TS]

00:15:31   up for I walk in the King goes over [TS]

00:15:32   there [TS]

00:15:33   yeah you know I wondered and maybe it [TS]

00:15:35   wasn't meant to be this but this time i [TS]

00:15:36   watched I was thinking about it [TS]

00:15:38   perhaps you know the fact that people [TS]

00:15:40   want to repeat the same exact things [TS]

00:15:42   every single day no matter kind of what [TS]

00:15:44   he starts to say to them is a commentary [TS]

00:15:46   on how much people are simply waiting [TS]

00:15:48   for you to shut up so they can see the [TS]

00:15:49   next things in the brain or is that a [TS]

00:15:51   commentary on our podcast work [TS]

00:15:53   ah interesting interesting what having [TS]

00:15:56   just been on a podcast about a subject [TS]

00:15:58   that we did a podcast about for the [TS]

00:15:59   uncomfortable [TS]

00:16:00   and having not listen to our episode [TS]

00:16:02   about it since we recorded i discovered [TS]

00:16:05   that i was saying the same things that I [TS]

00:16:07   had said in the previous podcast I just [TS]

00:16:08   you know so i think there's also that of [TS]

00:16:10   just were programmed to react when I [TS]

00:16:12   added a podcast honestly this is very [TS]

00:16:14   narrow groundhog day when I had a [TS]

00:16:16   podcast i find myself laughing at things [TS]

00:16:19   that people say and I can hear myself [TS]

00:16:21   laughing at the same time in the same [TS]

00:16:23   way on a recording to the things that [TS]

00:16:26   people are saying so yeah that's what I [TS]

00:16:28   mean that that's part of the fascination [TS]

00:16:30   of this movie right is that these [TS]

00:16:31   characters he he can he can kind of [TS]

00:16:34   program them but they're also they have [TS]

00:16:36   their default responses and and it one [TS]

00:16:39   of the joys of stephen tobolowsky and [TS]

00:16:42   the character is that that is a great [TS]

00:16:44   that is a great sequence of reactions [TS]

00:16:46   that lead to a very funny plant [TS]

00:16:48   literally punch line where it's like let [TS]

00:16:52   me try this let me try this let me try [TS]

00:16:54   this and and there's like I could punch [TS]

00:16:56   him [TS]

00:16:57   I can hug him there are many things i [TS]

00:16:59   could do with this guy [TS]

00:17:00   let's see what he does and that's kind [TS]

00:17:02   of beautiful because you know that he's [TS]

00:17:05   just he's trying to find all the [TS]

00:17:06   variations of behavior from all these [TS]

00:17:08   people because they will start in the [TS]

00:17:09   exact same place every time it does make [TS]

00:17:11   me wonder after all of the time he spent [TS]

00:17:12   on this one day weather after the [TS]

00:17:15   credits roll the realization dawns on [TS]

00:17:18   him that suddenly he's got to live a [TS]

00:17:19   different day and he just falls into a [TS]

00:17:21   deep depression about the fact that he [TS]

00:17:23   has he no longer has the whole thing peg [TS]

00:17:25   dsds to work it out on his own now he's [TS]

00:17:28   used to getting up and walking down and [TS]

00:17:29   turning on jeopardy and now something [TS]

00:17:31   else is happening and the first time [TS]

00:17:34   someone says hey there's that guy [TS]

00:17:36   what you didn't say that oh no that's [TS]

00:17:39   why i might he become so unpopular in [TS]

00:17:40   the next day because the next day and [TS]

00:17:42   jeopardise number not gonna know all the [TS]

00:17:43   answers [TS]

00:17:44   yeah this is a totally different episode [TS]

00:17:45   of Jeopardy I I think that's why the [TS]

00:17:49   last couple of scenes in the movie are [TS]

00:17:51   really important it's really important [TS]

00:17:53   to see him on the third and to see that [TS]

00:17:55   he's and we can get into the philosophy [TS]

00:17:58   of this later because i think that's [TS]

00:18:00   that's one of the most important things [TS]

00:18:01   about this movie but the when you see [TS]

00:18:05   him at the end [TS]

00:18:05   he's at peace right hehe has come to a [TS]

00:18:08   point where he's a he's a piece he's [TS]

00:18:12   he's that's it that's how he escaped [TS]

00:18:14   loop essentially is that he perfects [TS]

00:18:16   this day and and he moves on and and so [TS]

00:18:19   I think it's super important he says I [TS]

00:18:21   think we should live here you know what [TS]

00:18:23   will rent to start you know and all that [TS]

00:18:25   and that he seems ok because you're [TS]

00:18:27   right the other way to view this is that [TS]

00:18:29   he is a complete wreck because after [TS]

00:18:31   10,000 years he's in another day and now [TS]

00:18:34   he doesn't know what to do and that [TS]

00:18:35   would be really depressing ending or [TS]

00:18:37   third option [TS]

00:18:38   he now has to live the third over and [TS]

00:18:40   over again and I thought about that day [TS]

00:18:42   all around hard day to the day after day [TS]

00:18:46   after grandma 93 groundhog you to you [TS]

00:18:50   know watching this is steven spending [TS]

00:18:51   the first day of every third so he [TS]

00:18:53   decided that this is one of the cruelest [TS]

00:18:55   movies he had ever seen because it's [TS]

00:18:57   always almost as first day and it never [TS]

00:18:58   gets there the universe gave him a break [TS]

00:19:00   the third was the day that they changed [TS]

00:19:02   reels at the movie theater [TS]

00:19:04   Heidi to imagine being trapped in that I [TS]

00:19:07   love that joke is there but it's just [TS]

00:19:10   sitting there for you to notice which is [TS]

00:19:11   how you're trapped in the town where the [TS]

00:19:13   only movie you can watch as Heidi to the [TS]

00:19:15   only TV show you can watch you can watch [TS]

00:19:17   that one episode of jeopardy but he [TS]

00:19:19   learned to love Heidi too he did after a [TS]

00:19:22   hundred-plus view exposed to anything [TS]

00:19:24   that's one of the things are exposed to [TS]

00:19:26   anything for long enough to learn all of [TS]

00:19:28   its nuances like this town that he hates [TS]

00:19:31   that hates going to he learns to love it [TS]

00:19:33   but after after knowing it properly [TS]

00:19:36   uh I i tried what we do these movies on [TS]

00:19:39   the hot podcast i tried to take notes [TS]

00:19:41   about what's going on and I i did like [TS]

00:19:43   five of them and I i gave up because [TS]

00:19:45   this is a movie that's impossible to [TS]

00:19:47   chart on one level and on another level [TS]

00:19:50   I've seen it so many times that I can I [TS]

00:19:52   know what's in it so I i just kind of [TS]

00:19:54   gave up because it's so weird because [TS]

00:19:56   once we're in the time loop [TS]

00:19:57   it's just you know really where replay [TS]

00:19:59   events i always wonder that I assume [TS]

00:20:02   they shot it where all of the different [TS]

00:20:03   sequences were just shot in a row [TS]

00:20:05   because you want everything to be [TS]

00:20:07   exactly the same and that this must have [TS]

00:20:09   been a very strange movie to shoot then [TS]

00:20:10   because you're literally just doing [TS]

00:20:12   eight variations on one scene 4 days and [TS]

00:20:16   then you move on to the next set of [TS]

00:20:17   scene so you're you know you're at the [TS]

00:20:19   at the little gazebo where the where the [TS]

00:20:21   groundhog is for three days and then [TS]

00:20:24   you're off to punching net Ryerson for [TS]

00:20:27   for three days and we'll Ramos said that [TS]

00:20:30   about that scene with with phil and Ned [TS]

00:20:32   Ryerson where they they had to be [TS]

00:20:34   careful because every time they date [TS]

00:20:36   they they showed this the scene they [TS]

00:20:38   wanted the the fog be the same they [TS]

00:20:40   wanted the lighting to be the same that [TS]

00:20:41   time of day so they just you know we get [TS]

00:20:44   up in the morning and they would do like [TS]

00:20:45   shot after shot after shot after shot [TS]

00:20:47   and each time Murray would be like well [TS]

00:20:49   I'm gonna be sarcastic this time right [TS]

00:20:51   I'm gonna be I'm gonna hug you this time [TS]

00:20:53   and they would just keep doing it over [TS]

00:20:54   and over again and then if it didn't get [TS]

00:20:56   enough shoots shots in then they'd have [TS]

00:20:58   to like you know take photos the sky and [TS]

00:21:00   then wait till next day it was like that [TS]

00:21:02   and they do a bunch more but he said [TS]

00:21:04   yeah he said it was actually hard acting [TS]

00:21:06   because you're like okay I got two [TS]

00:21:07   different the last time rather than the [TS]

00:21:09   same which is how you usually do when [TS]

00:21:10   you act right [TS]

00:21:11   mmm yeah very strange I've been a miner [TS]

00:21:15   this is like sort of blending but not [TS]

00:21:17   really [TS]

00:21:18   they shot this movie in which documents [TS]

00:21:21   to kill annoy which I've been to yes [TS]

00:21:24   I've been in that town square and it is [TS]

00:21:26   yeah well right Indian you're from [TS]

00:21:28   Chicago and it's like every time I see [TS]

00:21:30   you I'm like oh yeah I had a I had a hot [TS]

00:21:32   chocolate and a doughnut at that bakery [TS]

00:21:34   that's on the corner there and they did [TS]

00:21:36   they actually have signs now of right [TS]

00:21:38   raspberry this is where this is where [TS]

00:21:41   Ned priors cut it simply was just bored [TS]

00:21:46   here this is the puddle my high school [TS]

00:21:49   used to a nice to play against [TS]

00:21:51   woodstocks team in tournaments [TS]

00:21:53   wow yeah amazing like famous yeah aren't [TS]

00:21:57   letting me yet like i was ever a team to [TS]

00:21:59   get a plumbing amazing so it's a cute [TS]

00:22:03   too cute little town it's not my mom [TS]

00:22:05   actually grew up next to Punxsutawney [TS]

00:22:07   Pennsylvania but they didn't shoot it in [TS]

00:22:09   Punxsutawney Pennsylvania once I learned [TS]

00:22:10   it was Woodstock I can't see the movie [TS]

00:22:12   now and think tanks on yeah I know stock [TS]

00:22:14   III somebody on Twitter the other night [TS]

00:22:17   was talking about how you can view this [TS]

00:22:20   movie is Bill Murray progressively gets [TS]

00:22:23   improves as a human being and so is a [TS]

00:22:26   dip but he tries to get better [TS]

00:22:27   where's chris elliott the more you know [TS]

00:22:29   about him the more awful he is easter [TS]

00:22:32   thought it was kind of talked about that [TS]

00:22:34   on the [TS]

00:22:35   I'm the holiday vault episode where this [TS]

00:22:36   was brought up and I i reject the theory [TS]

00:22:38   because I don't think he changes that [TS]

00:22:40   much in the movie no I I think it's just [TS]

00:22:41   revealed to us that using the more we [TS]

00:22:44   learn about him the more awful he is [TS]

00:22:46   right where she does really he tries to [TS]

00:22:49   pick up Nancy poorly and then he shapes [TS]

00:22:53   the waiter on the I'll get this exit and [TS]

00:22:56   then he embarrasses himself at the [TS]

00:22:57   bachelor auction [TS]

00:22:58   yeah things that yeah that's true but [TS]

00:23:00   that's not it that's not really it's not [TS]

00:23:01   just all these he's an unattractive just [TS]

00:23:04   appeal you know the way it is his fault [TS]

00:23:06   the way that he sort of like tries to [TS]

00:23:08   you know flex its muscles and dance [TS]

00:23:10   around a little bit that's that's just [TS]

00:23:11   icky i wouldn't care if he did have nice [TS]

00:23:13   muscles that looks stupid but why like [TS]

00:23:17   the idea of that sort of parallel [TS]

00:23:18   timeline going on i just i don't see it [TS]

00:23:20   that much [TS]

00:23:21   although i don't think i don't think [TS]

00:23:22   that that bill murray actually comes off [TS]

00:23:25   as that awful at the beginning either [TS]

00:23:27   mean he's clearly kind of a broken man [TS]

00:23:30   but the worst he does really is he talks [TS]

00:23:33   a little trash to Andie MacDowell [TS]

00:23:34   clearly deserves it prima donnas he [TS]

00:23:36   thinks he's a little bit you know higher [TS]

00:23:38   and mightier than he is he thinks he's [TS]

00:23:40   the talent and then he treats a chris [TS]

00:23:43   elliott kind of poorly as well but then [TS]

00:23:44   again you know it's true what most would [TS]

00:23:47   not exactly a quick perhaps I actually [TS]

00:23:49   was like crystals led in the role though [TS]

00:23:51   I think he was good for ya [TS]

00:23:53   he works very well he has one of my [TS]

00:23:55   favorite one of my favorite lines in one [TS]

00:23:57   of my favorite movies with lots of great [TS]

00:23:58   lines is when fill in the groundhog [TS]

00:24:02   drive off the great races into the into [TS]

00:24:05   the quarry is a swell he might have [TS]

00:24:06   survived and then there's a gigantic [TS]

00:24:08   impossible explosion assistance as well [TS]

00:24:11   probably not probably not now [TS]

00:24:14   now now that's beautiful minus rod I [TS]

00:24:17   didn't actually want to see this movie [TS]

00:24:18   when it came out because for one thing [TS]

00:24:20   the trailer made it look ridiculous [TS]

00:24:22   because it showed scenes of him driving [TS]

00:24:23   with the groundhog don't Drive Angry [TS]

00:24:25   thing and then I was like oh chris [TS]

00:24:27   elliott isn't it i I can't stand that [TS]

00:24:29   guy I'm i refuse to see this movie and [TS]

00:24:31   then when I was Andie McDowell's just [TS]

00:24:33   like nope [TS]

00:24:33   okay I'm out but eventually somebody [TS]

00:24:36   wants me to watch all the signs were [TS]

00:24:38   there that it would favor [TS]

00:24:40   I'm starting to think you guys are not [TS]

00:24:41   gonna be on board for the Hudson Hawk [TS]

00:24:43   yeah Andy Miguel ok let's talk let's [TS]

00:24:50   talk about the individual problems much [TS]

00:24:51   and she's in several movies that i [TS]

00:24:54   really like I still don't like her like [TS]

00:24:56   I love for weddings and a funeral but i [TS]

00:24:58   just cannot can't take her [TS]

00:25:00   I i think there are things in this movie [TS]

00:25:03   that made me laugh because I think [TS]

00:25:05   they're very ending the dow like like [TS]

00:25:06   the love of rhinestones and they're all [TS]

00:25:09   these things that I think you know if [TS]

00:25:10   this was me if this was make Ryan or [TS]

00:25:12   some other kind of romantic comedy [TS]

00:25:13   actress we would be like look like the [TS]

00:25:16   quirks that sally has and when harry met [TS]

00:25:18   sally right if those were the quirks of [TS]

00:25:20   Rita here it would be like oh that's so [TS]

00:25:23   adorable and instead they're also [TS]

00:25:24   annoying she likes the French poetry and [TS]

00:25:27   she has the sweet vermouth on the rocks [TS]

00:25:29   is your favorite rain for god sake [TS]

00:25:32   and.and she--and and wanted to post to [TS]

00:25:34   like to toast to world peace and she [TS]

00:25:36   goes oh hi mom when Bill Murray says he [TS]

00:25:38   gives a prayer and social world peace [TS]

00:25:41   and she live in altitude from the [TS]

00:25:44   mountain back at high elevation I do [TS]

00:25:47   think she's less offensively bad in this [TS]

00:25:49   movie than most of the movies she's been [TS]

00:25:50   in certainly because in this she's she's [TS]

00:25:53   supposed to be kind of a big doofus [TS]

00:25:55   so when she turns out to be one it [TS]

00:25:57   actually works a little bit although she [TS]

00:25:59   is still irritating but she does I think [TS]

00:26:00   she does successfully pull off sweet [TS]

00:26:02   yellow although it is it's it's kind of [TS]

00:26:05   in a to brain-damaged for malice kind of [TS]

00:26:07   way she's almost sort of an ethereal [TS]

00:26:10   Pixie dream girl you know she's just [TS]

00:26:12   she's just she's there to be an object [TS]

00:26:15   to be adored I mean she's not really a [TS]

00:26:17   character [TS]

00:26:18   yeah you're right you're right i think [TS]

00:26:20   there's there's a progression there we [TS]

00:26:21   learn more about here but I think you're [TS]

00:26:23   right in the sense that this is not a [TS]

00:26:24   movie about [TS]

00:26:25   Bill Murray learning who she is and [TS]

00:26:29   appreciating who she is it's it's I mean [TS]

00:26:32   it's about him perfecting himself but by [TS]

00:26:34   being willing to learn about her not [TS]

00:26:36   about her her i mean literally she can't [TS]

00:26:39   grow right cuz ya groundhog day but I i [TS]

00:26:44   I'm so I think that's I think that's [TS]

00:26:46   fair i mean what we really see is Bill [TS]

00:26:48   Murray learning to appreciate her for [TS]

00:26:49   who she is given you know what little [TS]

00:26:52   information he can clean on this one [TS]

00:26:54   particularly well but she's also a the [TS]

00:26:57   antithesis for his character the [TS]

00:26:59   beginning right men that he's a jerk and [TS]

00:27:00   sleazy and she's you know at heart a [TS]

00:27:03   good nice simple person who who you [TS]

00:27:07   can't dislike right and then it's just [TS]

00:27:09   kind of like this is your everything [TS]

00:27:11   she's not that's basically what his [TS]

00:27:13   character was the beginning right this [TS]

00:27:15   episode of the uncomfortable is brought [TS]

00:27:17   to you by mail route i use mail route it [TS]

00:27:59   largest universities and corporations [TS]

00:28:00   out there as a desktop user you'll find [TS]

00:28:02   mail routes user interface is simple and [TS]

00:28:04   effective I get a little email with a [TS]

00:28:06   list of the spam filter down with one [TS]

00:28:07   click i can deliver it whitelisted if [TS]

00:28:09   they do make a mistake and they almost [TS]

00:28:11   never make any mistakes the accuracy is [TS]

00:28:13   amazing if you're an email administrator [TS]

00:28:15   an IT professional they've got tools [TS]

00:28:17   built with you in mind there's an API [TS]

00:28:19   for easy account management their [TS]

00:28:40   ten percent off a lifetime of your [TS]

00:28:41   account go to mail route dotnet / smell [TS]

00:28:44   right now that's mail route dotnet / [TS]

00:28:47   smell stop span from coming into your [TS]

00:28:49   email box with mail route and thank you [TS]

00:28:51   so much to measure out for sponsoring [TS]

00:28:53   the incomparable I think the one the one [TS]

00:28:56   thing that bugs me a tiny little bit [TS]

00:28:58   about this movie is the resolution when [TS]

00:29:00   it comes to her because that last day [TS]

00:29:03   for whatever reason she completely Falls [TS]

00:29:07   for him in one day so she's known him [TS]

00:29:09   for you know she's new with the new [TS]

00:29:10   station but she's been there long enough [TS]

00:29:12   to get an idea of who hear the person [TS]

00:29:14   and then suddenly he makes an abrupt [TS]

00:29:16   shift in acts different and just because [TS]

00:29:19   he's nice to everybody else she [TS]

00:29:20   completely Falls for him and it just [TS]

00:29:22   seems a little bit and maybe maybe [TS]

00:29:24   that's just she is that sweet and nice [TS]

00:29:26   and perhaps a little bubble-headed that [TS]

00:29:28   that's the kind of thing that she'll [TS]

00:29:29   just go for I don't know [TS]

00:29:31   yeah the last day is sort of problematic [TS]

00:29:32   for a variety of reasons but i think [TS]

00:29:34   that's the main well and we spend the [TS]

00:29:36   whole movie with her not falling for [TS]

00:29:38   that and not falling for him even when [TS]

00:29:40   he does everything perfectly right [TS]

00:29:42   staged and then you could argue that [TS]

00:29:46   what makes her fall for him is not him [TS]

00:29:50   it so it's not him trying to put the [TS]

00:29:52   moves on it and then it's not him trying [TS]

00:29:54   to do exactly what she thinks she wants [TS]

00:29:57   to hear [TS]

00:29:58   in the end the thing that gets her is [TS]

00:30:01   him being in this community and [TS]

00:30:05   understanding these people and knowing [TS]

00:30:07   about them and sort of caring for them [TS]

00:30:09   and being able to do the right things [TS]

00:30:10   and being liked by them and so you could [TS]

00:30:12   argue that in the end what winter / is [TS]

00:30:14   that she didn't realize that when they [TS]

00:30:16   go to Punxsutawney Pennsylvania he is [TS]

00:30:18   completely beloved by all the people in [TS]

00:30:20   the town and cares about all these you [TS]

00:30:23   know strangers essentially so I mean I'm [TS]

00:30:26   not sure I buy that but that that's the [TS]

00:30:27   difference is that it she really [TS]

00:30:28   impressed with how he works with the [TS]

00:30:30   town more than when he's working on her [TS]

00:30:32   and I could like a goodbye that if they [TS]

00:30:34   were if they were there for several days [TS]

00:30:35   but when you think about the amount of [TS]

00:30:37   time he spends running around town [TS]

00:30:39   making everybody else like him she only [TS]

00:30:41   really sees him like that at that party [TS]

00:30:42   scene at the end and then when they [TS]

00:30:44   wander around town afterwards so exact [TS]

00:30:46   wherewhere with them all day but she she [TS]

00:30:48   sees him in the morning and she sees him [TS]

00:30:50   again at night and the only thing that [TS]

00:30:51   really mean sure all these people are [TS]

00:30:53   coming up to him and say well he did all [TS]

00:30:55   these great things during the day but [TS]

00:30:56   she doesn't really know what those [TS]

00:30:57   things are so why does you know and and [TS]

00:31:00   the other thing is that makes me think [TS]

00:31:03   that she's really falling for him [TS]

00:31:04   because he can play the piano because [TS]

00:31:06   the other stuff is so minor and that [TS]

00:31:09   doesn't add much to her character for me [TS]

00:31:11   why did he fall for her there's no he [TS]

00:31:12   fell for her because she's the only one [TS]

00:31:14   in town that he can't bet that's my [TS]

00:31:16   that's my opinion to theory so your [TS]

00:31:18   theory is that there's a whole series of [TS]

00:31:20   scenes where he had sex with every other [TS]

00:31:21   person in town yes i like and that's one [TS]

00:31:24   of the reason for his attraction to her [TS]

00:31:25   is because she's the only chickentown [TS]

00:31:27   has no chance a point i don't know he he [TS]

00:31:29   does say that the first time he saw her [TS]

00:31:31   and this is when she's asleep so he has [TS]

00:31:32   no reason to lie [TS]

00:31:33   the first time he saw her she changed [TS]

00:31:35   something in him and made him want to be [TS]

00:31:36   better so I think that maybe groundhog [TS]

00:31:38   day was just an opportunity for that to [TS]

00:31:41   play itself out whereas if you didn't [TS]

00:31:42   relive the steak and again he would have [TS]

00:31:44   just like squash that down like we all [TS]

00:31:46   do with so many good intention that I [TS]

00:31:48   started I these made up that mythology [TS]

00:31:50   in his own mind to explain why key by [TS]

00:31:53   easy but that's not really it she's [TS]

00:31:55   gonna tease been doing this for ten [TS]

00:31:57   thousand years he's going to get some of [TS]

00:31:59   the details wrong in the know about when [TS]

00:32:01   he first met well that's an interesting [TS]

00:32:03   point you'll notice for all his talk of [TS]

00:32:05   falling in love with her at first sight [TS]

00:32:06   he does not start in on her until he's [TS]

00:32:09   already had his way with half if not all [TS]

00:32:11   of the town do you think even remembers [TS]

00:32:13   what it's like what temporary first was [TS]

00:32:15   like does he know his old address may be [TS]

00:32:17   that one needs to move to this town has [TS]

00:32:20   not been a weatherman a long time and [TS]

00:32:23   all the weather has been exactly the [TS]

00:32:24   same so he's really out of practice [TS]

00:32:26   yeah it doesn't know where the studio is [TS]

00:32:27   c by fascinated by your theory juices [TS]

00:32:30   are you positing that uh that Phil [TS]

00:32:33   Connors has bedded the the tree of the [TS]

00:32:35   trio of old ladies [TS]

00:32:37   yes he's definitely been with them he [TS]

00:32:39   was Doris the way to break in [TS]

00:32:40   Robin ducal for a spin alrighty old hobo [TS]

00:32:43   for a bit of variety Debbie the bride [TS]

00:32:45   you absolutely girls are wearing yeah [TS]

00:32:47   she's already having questions about her [TS]

00:32:49   upcoming wedding that one of the [TS]

00:32:51   brilliant things about this movie is [TS]

00:32:52   that we really can there there are huge [TS]

00:32:54   gaps here because this this is not [TS]

00:32:57   anybody who has that trivia question [TS]

00:32:59   like Erica said about how [TS]

00:33:00   he loops are shown yes but the [TS]

00:33:03   implication here is that there is a you [TS]

00:33:06   know nearly infinite number of loops [TS]

00:33:07   that we haven't seen that has allowed [TS]

00:33:09   all sorts of crazy things to happen and [TS]

00:33:11   I actually like the movie gets dark in [TS]

00:33:12   the middle where he despairs that he [TS]

00:33:14   goes through these various points it end [TS]

00:33:18   up the process of being trapped in this [TS]

00:33:19   day it is the learning i enjoy the the [TS]

00:33:23   you know we can drive on the railroad [TS]

00:33:24   tracks so i can get put in jail and it [TS]

00:33:26   doesn't matter [TS]

00:33:27   and then and then I can rob the better [TS]

00:33:29   the armored car and it doesn't matter [TS]

00:33:32   and yeah and then that aggression he [TS]

00:33:34   goes through seems very very natural yes [TS]

00:33:37   he gets he skis confused then he's [TS]

00:33:39   panicked then he's despairing then he [TS]

00:33:41   goes through like a risk-taking phase [TS]

00:33:43   that he realizes you can take advantage [TS]

00:33:44   of the situation and then there's a [TS]

00:33:46   whole segment trying to bed and mcdowell [TS]

00:33:48   which seems kind of ill-advised maybe [TS]

00:33:49   still is risk-taking but whatever that [TS]

00:33:52   he's depressed then he suicidally [TS]

00:33:55   depressed then finally has resigned and [TS]

00:33:57   decides he's willing to take a stab at [TS]

00:33:59   redemption and that all kind of seems [TS]

00:34:00   like a really organic way that most [TS]

00:34:04   people would probably deal with this [TS]

00:34:05   situation will he snap at the moment he [TS]

00:34:07   snaps we're here where he steals the [TS]

00:34:09   groundhog [TS]

00:34:09   hey which is maybe my favorite thing in [TS]

00:34:11   the movies like destroy the ground dog [TS]

00:34:14   and and ends up going off the cliff at [TS]

00:34:17   the quarry which also has a fascinating [TS]

00:34:19   moment that I think maybe the only [TS]

00:34:21   example of this video in the entire [TS]

00:34:22   movie which is they see his dead body so [TS]

00:34:24   the implication there is that the day [TS]

00:34:26   continues whether he's alive or dead and [TS]

00:34:29   then it resets oh no that's I want after [TS]

00:34:31   he after jumping off the tower of the [TS]

00:34:33   right okay don't you write writes that [TS]

00:34:35   to their lease Oded seeing the dead body [TS]

00:34:38   that's fascinating because it's like [TS]

00:34:39   it's not just his perspective the whole [TS]

00:34:40   day goes on but there's nobody there to [TS]

00:34:42   observe it minute and then reset switch [TS]

00:34:44   is fast me but I love that he in that in [TS]

00:34:46   those depths he's that that he hits rock [TS]

00:34:50   bottom and then realizes there's nothing [TS]

00:34:51   you can do there's like literally [TS]

00:34:52   nothing he can do to stop this in my [TS]

00:34:55   dark head I you know I a fill-in extra [TS]

00:34:57   days like there had to have been times [TS]

00:34:58   where he went still some guns and went [TS]

00:35:00   on shooting rampages okay yes I'm sure [TS]

00:35:02   you've got much much darker but they had [TS]

00:35:04   to cut that sort of you know he doesn't [TS]

00:35:05   have that in a family we when you get [TS]

00:35:07   right down to it when he's trying to bed [TS]

00:35:09   and mcdowell that is actually really [TS]

00:35:11   creepy [TS]

00:35:12   oh yeah [TS]

00:35:13   I was 40 yeah i mean eat when he's [TS]

00:35:15   moving he's been pushing the right [TS]

00:35:17   buttons right room and trying harder and [TS]

00:35:18   harder it's it gets really damn [TS]

00:35:21   uncomfortable for me and I didn't know [TS]

00:35:23   if I was just watching it with the [TS]

00:35:24   2014-2015 eyes or if it felt that creepy [TS]

00:35:28   one when i saw in the first in theater [TS]

00:35:30   and I didn't remember it but that's [TS]

00:35:33   awfully don't if you're still reading [TS]

00:35:34   2014 on your eyes [TS]

00:35:37   no you're right no any and it's meant to [TS]

00:35:39   be the idea there is that he is he is [TS]

00:35:42   manipulating those situations he is [TS]

00:35:44   robotic Lee laughs I i think it's a [TS]

00:35:47   chilling scene where he is getting his [TS]

00:35:50   rehearsing what he says to her at the [TS]

00:35:52   bar and is there something wrong way and [TS]

00:35:54   the world yeah anything he says he says [TS]

00:35:56   like okay this remove remove you know [TS]

00:35:58   what he's getting been toasted world [TS]

00:35:59   peace right that is super creepy because [TS]

00:36:02   that and that that's like the phase of [TS]

00:36:04   of his relationship with her where there [TS]

00:36:06   he's just trying to please her and say [TS]

00:36:08   the right thing and it and it still [TS]

00:36:10   doesn't work the the Isle of the moment [TS]

00:36:12   also where he totally is freaked out and [TS]

00:36:15   trying to rush through the snowball [TS]

00:36:16   fight [TS]

00:36:17   hey yeah really and i love the whole [TS]

00:36:20   read a courtship exclusively because it [TS]

00:36:23   gives the opportunity for them to show [TS]

00:36:25   how on the first day as the extract some [TS]

00:36:28   new tidbit of information from from from [TS]

00:36:30   rita he sounds totally natural and then [TS]

00:36:32   on subsequent repeats of the same lines [TS]

00:36:34   they sound more and more force like he's [TS]

00:36:37   reading from a script and it culminated [TS]

00:36:39   in that that snowball fight scene where [TS]

00:36:41   he's in the first scene is playful and [TS]

00:36:43   he's having this that the fight with the [TS]

00:36:44   kids and he's kind of you know it seems [TS]

00:36:46   like he's having fun and then he goes [TS]

00:36:48   out early manic in the last one that we [TS]

00:36:50   see it's it's like a video game right i [TS]

00:36:52   mean we we made this analogy earlier [TS]

00:36:53   he's literally just going through steps [TS]

00:36:56   and realizes if he doesn't trace retrace [TS]

00:36:58   his steps he can't get to the next bit [TS]

00:37:01   and it's gonna reset and he's gonna have [TS]

00:37:02   to do it again and again it's like [TS]

00:37:04   losing in the middle of a level and [TS]

00:37:05   going back to the save point right so [TS]

00:37:07   Leslie a compare this particular so [TS]

00:37:09   great oh you guys unless there's some [TS]

00:37:12   snowballs right we're going kids lots of [TS]

00:37:14   kids posture your adoption it i like to [TS]

00:37:18   go back for a second because i think one [TS]

00:37:21   of my favorite things from just a [TS]

00:37:22   character standpoint is the risk-taking [TS]

00:37:24   phase because [TS]

00:37:26   so many people in movies get stuck in [TS]

00:37:28   weird twilight zone environments and [TS]

00:37:31   they never investigate what the rules [TS]

00:37:34   are of their reality but he has to and I [TS]

00:37:37   really appreciate seeing a kick your [TS]

00:37:39   character say alright well it's a [TS]

00:37:42   basically has a checklist [TS]

00:37:44   well what happens if I die okay what [TS]

00:37:47   happens if i stay up all night [TS]

00:37:48   nope alright he's like defining for [TS]

00:37:52   himself the rules of his world while the [TS]

00:37:54   same time defining for the character [TS]

00:37:55   that excuse me [TS]

00:37:56   defining for the audience what the rules [TS]

00:37:58   are and i would like more people to do [TS]

00:38:00   that when they're in crazy nutso world [TS]

00:38:03   has happened so often in movies i wanted [TS]

00:38:05   to say about the repeated scenes where [TS]

00:38:07   we see things sort of change aspect I i [TS]

00:38:09   think that's that's a huge that says a [TS]

00:38:12   lot about Bill Murray's acting [TS]

00:38:13   capability i think he really does a [TS]

00:38:16   fantastic job in this just some of them [TS]

00:38:19   are very subtle I mean that as he's you [TS]

00:38:21   know repeatedly coming in and doing the [TS]

00:38:22   vermouth and then the world peace thing [TS]

00:38:24   it's it's just fascinating to me how [TS]

00:38:27   those those repeated lines he does such [TS]

00:38:30   a good job of making it clear that he's [TS]

00:38:32   you know he's just kind of going through [TS]

00:38:33   the motions of that part because he [TS]

00:38:34   knows how this part works and and the [TS]

00:38:38   other thing i want to say about his is [TS]

00:38:40   acting in this film is a when Phil Marie [TS]

00:38:42   tries to be emotional [TS]

00:38:44   he usually doesn't really bad job he [TS]

00:38:47   usually either seems like he's he's [TS]

00:38:48   sarcastic or he's just being straight-up [TS]

00:38:50   psychotic like Scrooge i think is the [TS]

00:38:53   best example where you know he has a big [TS]

00:38:55   turnaround at the end of screwed and he [TS]

00:38:57   seems like he should be locked up [TS]

00:39:00   yeah once he's been redeemed he seems [TS]

00:39:02   like you know he's totally manic and [TS]

00:39:04   he's frightening more than he is you [TS]

00:39:06   know heartwarming but in this movie he [TS]

00:39:08   really does i think a really great job [TS]

00:39:10   of pulling off the emoting he's he does [TS]

00:39:13   the like even the the kind of ridiculous [TS]

00:39:15   speeches like that when you stand in the [TS]

00:39:18   snow you look like an angel that comes [TS]

00:39:20   off is really real and I was completely [TS]

00:39:22   unaware before this movie that pit bill [TS]

00:39:24   murray was actually capable of that even [TS]

00:39:27   is little to his long declaration of [TS]

00:39:29   love for reading while she's asleep i [TS]

00:39:30   think that works like gangbusters [TS]

00:39:32   yeah so although i keep saying to myself [TS]

00:39:34   oh if only were not and even tell that [TS]

00:39:37   he was talking about it [TS]

00:39:38   don't I really don't like her I think [TS]

00:39:40   it's a testament to this movie how much [TS]

00:39:42   i love this movie that I i love it even [TS]

00:39:44   though Andy McDowell is the is the the [TS]

00:39:47   romantic lead here because i don't like [TS]

00:39:50   her I don't I don't I don't I do does [TS]

00:39:54   say repeatedly series mean maybe it's [TS]

00:39:56   the Heidi to effect and the reason the [TS]

00:39:58   hands up liking her so much is simply [TS]

00:40:00   because he spends all that time with her [TS]

00:40:02   and just gets used to it like everybody [TS]

00:40:04   else in town maybe she reminds him of [TS]

00:40:06   hiding his favorite think it's possible [TS]

00:40:09   that doesn't make sense [TS]

00:40:11   she's a handwriting remind him of [TS]

00:40:12   everything at that point mm you know I i [TS]

00:40:16   do think this is the perfect moon match [TS]

00:40:18   of a character to an actor in bill [TS]

00:40:19   murray in anyway don't know in bill [TS]

00:40:22   murray that that you want the the fact [TS]

00:40:24   that it's the cynical weatherman and [TS]

00:40:26   that he starts off in a place where he's [TS]

00:40:28   not he's not a horrible human being but [TS]

00:40:30   he's not in a good place his priorities [TS]

00:40:32   are all screwed up [TS]

00:40:34   he doesn't know what he wants he's [TS]

00:40:35   unhappy and uh and then ya see if you're [TS]

00:40:39   totally right hehe takes this he takes [TS]

00:40:41   this journey and it was really [TS]

00:40:43   well-suited to what what Bill Murray's [TS]

00:40:45   good at and then when he gets them the [TS]

00:40:47   moment where you where he's finally [TS]

00:40:48   perfected this day and show some genuine [TS]

00:40:52   emotion that isn't you know anchor or [TS]

00:40:55   mania that that uh that it is it's it [TS]

00:40:59   comes across well i agree and he doesn't [TS]

00:41:02   become an angel he still recognizably [TS]

00:41:04   Bill Murray [TS]

00:41:05   yeah like I if you walked in saw [TS]

00:41:07   somebody playing the piano like that [TS]

00:41:09   with those sunglasses back i don't i [TS]

00:41:13   thought that that last day that's when [TS]

00:41:15   the other things that always bugged me [TS]

00:41:16   about the last days that he still kind [TS]

00:41:18   of an arrogant jerk and he had more [TS]

00:41:21   crazy night last at last seriously he [TS]

00:41:24   kept getting better and better and like [TS]

00:41:25   a nicer guy and everything else in the [TS]

00:41:27   last days kinda like he's very smug and [TS]

00:41:29   I always bugged me so here's another [TS]

00:41:31   theory that I have which is the it's not [TS]

00:41:35   about the perfect day right [TS]

00:41:37   it's about getting the perfect ending to [TS]

00:41:39   the perfect day and he reaches the point [TS]

00:41:41   where he's he is there with read at the [TS]

00:41:44   end and is not putting like putting the [TS]

00:41:47   moves on her [TS]

00:41:48   he's happy to be there with her [TS]

00:41:51   and it has resigned that he's gonna [TS]

00:41:53   reset and he's gonna lose everything I [TS]

00:41:55   if I've got my theory for why it moves [TS]

00:41:58   to februari third it's that which is [TS]

00:42:00   that's that's what gets him over the [TS]

00:42:02   edge is that in the end he's not doing [TS]

00:42:04   anything in that last moment with her [TS]

00:42:06   that is that is any of his game playing [TS]

00:42:10   but from before or particularly selfish [TS]

00:42:12   he sort of like he's content and [TS]

00:42:14   in-the-moment yeah he's happy to spend [TS]

00:42:15   that time with her he reaches the be [TS]

00:42:17   here now sort of philosophy that we get [TS]

00:42:19   the ramdev philosophy which my dad [TS]

00:42:21   always tells me he finally gets to that [TS]

00:42:23   point where he's not wishing it was a [TS]

00:42:24   different day he is comfortable where he [TS]

00:42:26   is and you know its enlightenment in a [TS]

00:42:28   way so he moves on however throughout [TS]

00:42:30   none of this does he ever eat the [TS]

00:42:32   chocolates on the nightstand [TS]

00:42:34   what kind of monster is he haha i assume [TS]

00:42:37   that he's had the you know the the giant [TS]

00:42:40   the giant brunch or lunch at the diner [TS]

00:42:43   every day [TS]

00:42:44   those are probably fresh chocolates on [TS]

00:42:46   his nightstand each night he's probably [TS]

00:42:48   in the date the morning chocolates and [TS]

00:42:50   the maid is coming and put our table [TS]

00:42:52   doesn't eat the chocolates immediately [TS]

00:42:54   when walking in the room I think he's [TS]

00:42:56   had those chocolates thousands of time [TS]

00:42:58   beer propane-burning yeah he's a little [TS]

00:43:00   liars Jocelyn's he's eating them a [TS]

00:43:02   thousand times he's pooped about a [TS]

00:43:03   thousand yeah i know not if he eats them [TS]

00:43:06   at the end of the day might actually end [TS]

00:43:07   up pooping at all for 10,000 years it's [TS]

00:43:10   possible that there is going to be [TS]

00:43:12   unpinned and then morning before this [TS]

00:43:14   for me [TS]

00:43:15   yeah poor read almost his alcoholism not [TS]

00:43:17   having warm water for that entire time [TS]

00:43:19   yeah follow through on the ram dass note [TS]

00:43:22   i really like the idea this is the story [TS]

00:43:23   of him learning to live in the moment [TS]

00:43:25   when he's been forced to live [TS]

00:43:27   essentially in one moment forever [TS]

00:43:30   mmhmm yeah but he ultimately makes his [TS]

00:43:33   peace with it and that's what gets him [TS]

00:43:35   out of it yeah i think so very very [TS]

00:43:37   Buddhist what what yeah absolutely [TS]

00:43:39   what do you think about so one of the [TS]

00:43:43   obviously the philosophical implications [TS]

00:43:45   here are fascinating what do you think [TS]

00:43:48   about the choice to have no clear [TS]

00:43:51   mechanism for him getting in or out of [TS]

00:43:53   this I i love it but I I'm just curious [TS]

00:43:56   that we never there's never an [TS]

00:43:58   explanation in this movie it's kind of [TS]

00:43:59   refreshing to me but there's no we all [TS]

00:44:01   just get to make it up i watch this with [TS]

00:44:03   Stephen who had never seen this movie [TS]

00:44:05   for and the the one thing that he said [TS]

00:44:06   when the movie ended he threw his hands [TS]

00:44:09   in the air innocent us he was not sure [TS]

00:44:14   that he could handle not knowing where [TS]

00:44:15   to me that the questions never even [TS]

00:44:17   occurred to me maybe it did the first [TS]

00:44:18   time I saw and I just forgot about that [TS]

00:44:20   but i like not knowing that means it's [TS]

00:44:23   not just why did this day get repeated [TS]

00:44:25   that's why did the universe or fate or [TS]

00:44:27   whatever pick this particular porsche [TS]

00:44:29   love for this torturous Redemption does [TS]

00:44:31   this happen to everybody at some point [TS]

00:44:32   in their life or is it just this guy for [TS]

00:44:34   some reason and because you don't know [TS]

00:44:36   why it started you get to make up for [TS]

00:44:38   yourself why it ended with i think makes [TS]

00:44:40   the end of the movie much more [TS]

00:44:41   interesting [TS]

00:44:42   yeah yeah i mean it would to me it would [TS]

00:44:45   ruin the whole movie for someone to say [TS]

00:44:46   this is exactly what happened why he got [TS]

00:44:48   out of it because if you set that up it [TS]

00:44:51   serve takes all the mystery out of it in [TS]

00:44:52   android i I'm like Jason glad that they [TS]

00:44:56   never say a thing about it it would make [TS]

00:44:58   it mechanical and I feel like the the [TS]

00:45:00   beauty of this movie is that it really [TS]

00:45:01   flows well i think it works really well [TS]

00:45:04   without it i think it could work with it [TS]

00:45:06   the movie edge of tomorrow which [TS]

00:45:08   recently came out the tom cruise movie [TS]

00:45:10   with this exact plot was actually really [TS]

00:45:13   good and it does have an explanation for [TS]

00:45:15   it but it but that was the worst part of [TS]

00:45:17   the whole movie I thought huh [TS]

00:45:18   explanation was the worst part of the [TS]

00:45:22   source code is a similar kind of theme [TS]

00:45:24   and I enjoyed that movie too [TS]

00:45:25   oh yeah me too there's a great novel i'm [TS]

00:45:27   going to mention it i think i put my [TS]

00:45:29   plug it when we did the holiday ball [TS]

00:45:30   episode 2 called replay by a guy named [TS]

00:45:34   Ken Grimwood and it's about somebody who [TS]

00:45:38   gets thrown back in time like 30 years [TS]

00:45:41   in his life and lives it over again and [TS]

00:45:43   gets to the same moment and then gets [TS]

00:45:44   thrown back in time like 28 years in his [TS]

00:45:47   life so weak his cycle keeps getting [TS]

00:45:48   closer but he's reliving his chunk of [TS]

00:45:51   his life over and over again and have [TS]

00:45:54   and it's from like nineteen ninety or [TS]

00:45:56   personally predates 19 or meet the [TS]

00:45:59   ladies it predates this movie but it's [TS]

00:46:02   similar kind of themes except there [TS]

00:46:03   you've got a much longer time scale and [TS]

00:46:05   so you can you can see sort of like how [TS]

00:46:07   your decisions play out over time rather [TS]

00:46:09   than here [TS]

00:46:11   Bill Murray has no I mean he's he's [TS]

00:46:13   trapped here there's nothing he can do [TS]

00:46:15   that has any lasting impact which is a [TS]

00:46:17   little bit different but I love [TS]

00:46:18   I love having that that approach and I [TS]

00:46:20   do love that that is completely open to [TS]

00:46:24   interpretation is very clear that he he [TS]

00:46:27   sets on this journey of self-improvement [TS]

00:46:28   and the end he gets out of it so you [TS]

00:46:32   know i don't i don't know I maybe [TS]

00:46:34   everybody in this world lives through [TS]

00:46:37   that right on i think that's enough even [TS]

00:46:39   though our protagonist is an infinite [TS]

00:46:41   stalker [TS]

00:46:42   this isn't romantic fantasy well and in [TS]

00:46:45   this unit area that mean you can't leave [TS]

00:46:47   so he stalks everybody in town once you [TS]

00:46:50   know exactly where everyone is [TS]

00:46:53   yeah i think that if I think I don't [TS]

00:46:55   think he starts out as a stalker I think [TS]

00:46:57   he developed into a stalker because he's [TS]

00:46:59   been on this day yes I was in dreams [TS]

00:47:01   yeah we go stalk that guy down with your [TS]

00:47:04   story right so I'm gonna hang out with [TS]

00:47:07   this guide for the next year you know [TS]

00:47:09   everything about him and tell you bored [TS]

00:47:11   with him so I think it's kind of a [TS]

00:47:13   developed stockers yeah he probably [TS]

00:47:15   rummages through everyone's house where [TS]

00:47:16   they're not home right now he had enough [TS]

00:47:19   time to he probably did and you know [TS]

00:47:21   that's one of the things that about this [TS]

00:47:22   movie watching it [TS]

00:47:24   this is the first time I've seen it in [TS]

00:47:25   years and I I I didn't feel as warm and [TS]

00:47:30   fuzzy about it as I did the way back [TS]

00:47:32   then and I keep coming back to mi older [TS]

00:47:35   and wiser now or am I just words i'm [TS]

00:47:38   just looking through it through more [TS]

00:47:39   cynical eyes or was it or you know I [TS]

00:47:42   just do I just don't know but it is the [TS]

00:47:45   I do see such darkness in the character [TS]

00:47:48   that i almost have trouble coming to the [TS]

00:47:51   end of the movie when he's redeemed and [TS]

00:47:53   and a a good guy again is it helps to [TS]

00:47:57   think about you think about it on on the [TS]

00:47:59   scale [TS]

00:48:00   I mean throughout somebody's life you [TS]

00:48:02   know safe 50 or 60 years that person is [TS]

00:48:05   not necessarily the same person that [TS]

00:48:07   they were from when they were young you [TS]

00:48:08   know maybe they did something terrible [TS]

00:48:09   in your twenties and then you know [TS]

00:48:11   redeem themself i don't think i would [TS]

00:48:13   necessarily judge a 65 year old person [TS]

00:48:15   on what they were doing when they were [TS]

00:48:17   in their twenties in this case is dark [TS]

00:48:19   period could be three and a half [TS]

00:48:21   thousand years from the end of the movie [TS]

00:48:23   where he gets his Redemption so for me [TS]

00:48:25   I'm able to sort of mitigate it in that [TS]

00:48:27   way [TS]

00:48:28   yeah he's certainly burn this town down [TS]

00:48:30   a few times murdering everybody sure and [TS]

00:48:33   some somebody in the chat room is asking [TS]

00:48:34   about the boundaries of the magical zone [TS]

00:48:36   i had actually one of the brilliant [TS]

00:48:37   things in here is its implied that [TS]

00:48:39   because of the blizzard that hit just [TS]

00:48:41   out of sight outside of town and cut off [TS]

00:48:43   all the long-distance lines and all of [TS]

00:48:44   those things that essentially [TS]

00:48:46   punxsutawney is in a bubble and it's cut [TS]

00:48:48   off by the weather from the outside [TS]

00:48:50   world but it has the net effect of it [TS]

00:48:52   being that he can't leave town [TS]

00:48:54   he is trapped in this time bubble for [TS]

00:48:57   all eternity essentially Whelan [TS]

00:49:00   yeah in fact even say during the movie [TS]

00:49:02   that the blizzards basically shutting [TS]

00:49:04   off all everything from the outside [TS]

00:49:05   world but it misses the talent [TS]

00:49:07   completely completely yea even [TS]

00:49:09   communications you know he can't get a [TS]

00:49:11   long-distance line which is watching at [TS]

00:49:12   this time made me giggle at things [TS]

00:49:14   different [TS]

00:49:15   this could have been a very very [TS]

00:49:16   different movie had his head the day [TS]

00:49:18   changed februari third right after one [TS]

00:49:21   of his killing spree de mi yeah I [TS]

00:49:24   thought of that every time for his death [TS]

00:49:26   right i mean that boy he was willing to [TS]

00:49:28   die because you need to be out of there [TS]

00:49:30   but we've been like up and then it was [TS]

00:49:32   the next day [TS]

00:49:33   oh well we'll never know why he did that [TS]

00:49:35   it's possible that there are 10,000 [TS]

00:49:37   years worth of alternate realities [TS]

00:49:39   spawned by each of those days [TS]

00:49:41   very nice I anybody have any words for [TS]

00:49:44   uh for Stephen Tobolowsky as Ned Ryerson [TS]

00:49:47   every this is my kids favorite thing in [TS]

00:49:49   the entire movie is when he said this [TS]

00:49:51   Ned and punches punches Stephen [TS]

00:49:54   Tobolowsky in the face it in riga so am [TS]

00:49:57   i right am i right all right [TS]

00:49:58   am I right or am i right right i think [TS]

00:50:00   it was probably a bad idea for Stephen [TS]

00:50:02   Tobolowsky to be so great in this [TS]

00:50:04   because i'm certain that for the rest of [TS]

00:50:06   his life [TS]

00:50:07   this is how people come up to him and [TS]

00:50:09   greet him right oh yeah I know any he's [TS]

00:50:12   been in hundreds of films and this is [TS]

00:50:14   this is you know that what you're known [TS]

00:50:16   for I'm a crybaby does that mean the [TS]

00:50:18   other an actor to have a role that's so [TS]

00:50:20   iconic that people come up to you and [TS]

00:50:22   talk about it all the time when they [TS]

00:50:23   talk about yes but specifically a [TS]

00:50:25   character who runs up to people and the [TS]

00:50:28   costs them [TS]

00:50:30   people are running up to him and costing [TS]

00:50:32   him [TS]

00:50:33   yes because I've been playing a [TS]

00:50:35   memorable polite character it's just [TS]

00:50:37   great it's just a great little bit i [TS]

00:50:38   love i love that bryerson it's just it's [TS]

00:50:41   just crazy and hey watch out for that [TS]

00:50:45   first step it's a doozy your other [TS]

00:50:51   favorite one is one that they don't [TS]

00:50:53   repeat it nearly as many times but it's [TS]

00:50:55   a guy on the stairs at the beginning [TS]

00:50:56   haseeno says off to see the groundhog [TS]

00:50:58   and that actor actually was a [TS]

00:51:01   short-lived sitcom called Herman's head [TS]

00:51:02   that yes I remember him from alongside [TS]

00:51:05   the voice of lisa simpson and and he had [TS]

00:51:09   area Molly Kagan we all know the full [TS]

00:51:10   cast and jelly time it's really this is [TS]

00:51:13   handling guys so she's also in down [TS]

00:51:16   periscope anyway but anyway so that at [TS]

00:51:21   the last time where Bill Murray gives [TS]

00:51:24   that the little speech about it about it [TS]

00:51:26   and he just liked the look on his face [TS]

00:51:28   as Bill Murray walks away down the [TS]

00:51:30   stairs like yeah he's straightened [TS]

00:51:32   himself up and use has this big grand [TS]

00:51:33   and that's where I first really start [TS]

00:51:35   seeing that bill murray's making a [TS]

00:51:36   positive or has the ability to make a [TS]

00:51:38   real positive impact on the town [TS]

00:51:41   it's even just just little things like [TS]

00:51:42   this it works yeah I like baby yeah he [TS]

00:51:45   created the he quotes the French poetry [TS]

00:51:47   at him and that's what is no man-made [TS]

00:51:50   that is yeah well that this is the kind [TS]

00:51:52   of thing where you look at the cast list [TS]

00:51:53   minutes and he's man in hallway and you [TS]

00:51:55   think well that is just like a throwaway [TS]

00:51:56   it's like nope he's got a lot of stuff [TS]

00:51:58   to do is manage hallway because we see [TS]

00:52:01   that seemed you know good eight or nine [TS]

00:52:03   times amazing i want to throw in a few [TS]

00:52:08   good words for Gus and Ralph yes do come [TS]

00:52:12   and who I remember from I can't even say [TS]

00:52:14   he was well he was in spaceballs right [TS]

00:52:17   ya think he's one of the dark helmet [TS]

00:52:20   students and he's an even and and die [TS]

00:52:22   hard and a lot of other things you know [TS]

00:52:24   over the over the years Rickman and and [TS]

00:52:27   the other guy who I recognized but I [TS]

00:52:29   can't think of what it all was in and I [TS]

00:52:31   love those guys those are the guys that [TS]

00:52:33   there's the classic line like what would [TS]

00:52:34   you guys do if every day was the same is [TS]

00:52:36   via the last and has no meaning to [TS]

00:52:39   commit to the like [TS]

00:52:41   pretty much sums it up for me yeah yes [TS]

00:52:43   oh that's the most heartbreaking moment [TS]

00:52:45   my feelings for me [TS]

00:52:47   I mean that you know i'm i'm too drunk [TS]

00:52:48   to drive my car and I'll Drive you and [TS]

00:52:50   then and then at if I wanted to run into [TS]

00:52:52   you in 24 mailboxes I couldn't [TS]

00:52:54   clarifications people don't matta [TS]

00:52:58   district do command is prison guard in [TS]

00:53:00   space ball haha yeah that's it there you [TS]

00:53:02   go [TS]

00:53:02   I just remember him with wacky makeup [TS]

00:53:05   and stuff and ya know whatever get [TS]

00:53:06   advantage about something like that how [TS]

00:53:08   now we didn't we drop the Herman's head [TS]

00:53:10   reference we're good for the rest of the [TS]

00:53:13   episode anyway I love those guys they're [TS]

00:53:14   not they're not around much after that [TS]

00:53:16   but i I just I i love that he spend that [TS]

00:53:20   time with them in the bowling alley and [TS]

00:53:21   that they have the it there's this [TS]

00:53:23   commentary on how you know they're [TS]

00:53:25   living life as if it was in that loop [TS]

00:53:27   where it's always the same sort of thing [TS]

00:53:29   I also like how they suddenly even [TS]

00:53:31   through the drunken stupor get concerned [TS]

00:53:33   about them dying as the car chases [TS]

00:53:36   killing you oh yeah don't drive on the [TS]

00:53:39   railroad tracks [TS]

00:53:40   that's what I happen to agree with my [TS]

00:53:43   favorite part of that is don't mix beer [TS]

00:53:44   and wine ever headline cracks me up [TS]

00:53:48   everytime let me ask you something about [TS]

00:53:49   the final day [TS]

00:53:50   alright do you think he robbed the bank [TS]

00:53:53   on that day know where did you get those [TS]

00:53:56   wrestlemania tickets [TS]

00:53:57   mm you might still have a credit card [TS]

00:54:01   yeah WrestleMania is coming out of you [TS]

00:54:02   forward that how did you forward a [TS]

00:54:04   thousand-dollar piano lesson on every [TS]

00:54:06   water cash remember because he gave it [TS]

00:54:08   he gave it to the old guy early in the [TS]

00:54:11   movie so he had massive out Cashin as [TS]

00:54:14   well this isn't 1910 the ATM machine [TS]

00:54:16   still work [TS]

00:54:17   yeah no I don't want the lines of my [TS]

00:54:20   wives going but that's when the blizzard [TS]

00:54:22   hits before the blizzard there's there's [TS]

00:54:23   there's no problem and I thought about [TS]

00:54:25   the piano lessons was that you know the [TS]

00:54:27   first day he goes he offers a thousand [TS]

00:54:29   dollars if it was me the next day i [TS]

00:54:31   would offer 800 ya see how that might [TS]

00:54:33   just keep pulling it down till you get [TS]

00:54:34   to the point where you know she's gonna [TS]

00:54:35   say no and then that's your baseline [TS]

00:54:37   just me piano lessons on the last day [TS]

00:54:39   but he's no he has to take some other [TS]

00:54:41   veggies are proud of your right you're [TS]

00:54:43   right that that poor piano student is so [TS]

00:54:45   devastated every to Bhutan ceremoniously [TS]

00:54:48   from her lesson [TS]

00:54:49   hey you're right you're right i i i [TS]

00:54:52   don't know i don't think he is allowed [TS]

00:54:54   to [TS]

00:54:54   rob the bank and get to the next day I [TS]

00:54:57   think he I think it's a good that's a [TS]

00:54:59   very good question now but I don't think [TS]

00:55:00   it's allowed i feel good almost be a [TS]

00:55:02   waste of time because he has to sit [TS]

00:55:03   there for a while watching them doing [TS]

00:55:05   that and he's got a lot of other stuff [TS]

00:55:06   to do you have it timed out so he [TS]

00:55:07   doesn't have to spend that time like you [TS]

00:55:09   played the level often enough you know [TS]

00:55:11   when the fireballs coming he's got that [TS]

00:55:13   sweet sweet weatherman money he doesn't [TS]

00:55:15   need around the Pacific he needs to be [TS]

00:55:16   done this game [TS]

00:55:17   yeah he's doing fine so something I [TS]

00:55:19   noticed this time that I maybe I didn't [TS]

00:55:22   notice before but i didn't pay as close [TS]

00:55:23   attention to is how good the direction [TS]

00:55:25   and the cinematography and editing our I [TS]

00:55:29   mean there are some scenes here that are [TS]

00:55:31   just so well done there's that super [TS]

00:55:33   close up shot of the clock numbers [TS]

00:55:35   turning over which i think is really [TS]

00:55:36   messing in the whole movie when it's [TS]

00:55:39   just you know that when they actually [TS]

00:55:39   built a model that that they could get [TS]

00:55:42   real for a video of the clock radio as [TS]

00:55:45   that as the time changes from 559 26 and [TS]

00:55:47   it's that's a great shot [TS]

00:55:49   I love the starkness of the scene where [TS]

00:55:51   where Phil is reciting the DJ speech in [TS]

00:55:54   bed on one of his dark days he looks so [TS]

00:55:57   motherly haunted as he saying it's cold [TS]

00:55:59   out there every day no yeah no good and [TS]

00:56:03   the the cameras kind of pulling back [TS]

00:56:05   from is though it's like we're repelled [TS]

00:56:07   by his his sadness and then I never [TS]

00:56:11   noticed this before but he he goes [TS]

00:56:13   through the whole sequence where the old [TS]

00:56:15   guys you know dying repeatedly from old [TS]

00:56:17   age and there's the scenery is trying to [TS]

00:56:19   resuscitate them out in the snow and it [TS]

00:56:23   the camera pulls back after he tries to [TS]

00:56:25   breathe you know some breath into him [TS]

00:56:27   and you can see the steam from that [TS]

00:56:29   breath kind of escaping on the breeze up [TS]

00:56:32   into the air and that is just such [TS]

00:56:34   genius cinematography right there and [TS]

00:56:36   and of course there isn't a you know a [TS]

00:56:38   subsequent breath as he kinda looks [TS]

00:56:39   around and looks up at the sky as though [TS]

00:56:41   you know why did this happen but it's so [TS]

00:56:43   lovely [TS]

00:56:44   well that and at that moment that whole [TS]

00:56:46   sequence where he's trying to take care [TS]

00:56:48   of the of the the old man is wonderful [TS]

00:56:52   because that's the moment where he [TS]

00:56:54   realizes that he's severely limited in [TS]

00:56:58   what he can do like there's some things [TS]

00:56:59   you can't change [TS]

00:57:00   he's not a god at that point that's [TS]

00:57:02   that's when he knows yeah it is a little [TS]

00:57:05   weird that he keeps calling him father [TS]

00:57:07   dad and I kind of wished you would've [TS]

00:57:09   gotten the guys name at some point I [TS]

00:57:11   don't know what does unless a mock [TS]

00:57:13   anything yeah yeah maybe yeah I'll i do [TS]

00:57:17   like the scene where he just keeps [TS]

00:57:18   feeding him soup but I think that's [TS]

00:57:20   going down there get far down there at [TS]

00:57:22   the bottom up but yeah that's so good [TS]

00:57:25   what else should we talk about about [TS]

00:57:27   this i like I said my notes are sort of [TS]

00:57:29   like a they just keep repeating things [TS]

00:57:31   over and over again highlighting my [TS]

00:57:33   notes to and and like often happens with [TS]

00:57:35   these movies that we watch that i love [TS]

00:57:36   all i do is end up just writing down all [TS]

00:57:38   the quotes that I know and love anyway [TS]

00:57:40   just because I like them [TS]

00:57:42   I'm betting he's gonna swerve first [TS]

00:57:45   oh my favorite one of my favorites is [TS]

00:57:51   the have killed myself so many times I [TS]

00:57:53   don't even exist anymore house i think [TS]

00:57:55   that that is such a plaintiff the moment [TS]

00:57:58   it is so bleak that it's which is the [TS]

00:58:01   one line captures the mood of all of [TS]

00:58:03   those scenes right there that's the [TS]

00:58:04   annihilation of the self that is like he [TS]

00:58:06   has to basically except that he's [TS]

00:58:09   nothing and then he can start to put [TS]

00:58:12   something together but it [TS]

00:58:14   yeah i mean this this is I I think [TS]

00:58:16   that's a really great example of a disc [TS]

00:58:18   or one of the others core while of this [TS]

00:58:20   movie is that it is both meaningful and [TS]

00:58:23   funny at the same time which is really [TS]

00:58:27   really hard to do and this movie does it [TS]

00:58:30   like you know Bill Murray [TS]

00:58:31   oh it's wacky Bill Murray and it is a [TS]

00:58:33   frilly funny movie and yet at the same [TS]

00:58:35   time it gets really dark and it is it's [TS]

00:58:38   meaningful it's about somebody trying to [TS]

00:58:40   search for meaning and like being given [TS]

00:58:42   this opportunity that is a blessing and [TS]

00:58:44   a curse to understand like why you know [TS]

00:58:47   who people are and appreciating other [TS]

00:58:49   people and and that's that you know [TS]

00:58:51   that's a perfect example of its a very [TS]

00:58:53   funny moment at the same time it is a [TS]

00:58:55   super meaningful moment there are [TS]

00:58:57   moments when it manages really a good [TS]

00:58:58   heartbreak to like that after his big [TS]

00:59:01   heartfelt speech to read in bed that [TS]

00:59:03   first time when you hear that click of [TS]

00:59:05   the clock turning over and then freakin [TS]

00:59:07   bono is back [TS]

00:59:08   it's like being stabbed in the gut but [TS]

00:59:10   you're thinking how could he did it [TS]

00:59:12   this was all about help help ok and you [TS]

00:59:15   know character good character [TS]

00:59:16   development is something that is [TS]

00:59:17   important for for excellent films but i [TS]

00:59:20   think very [TS]

00:59:20   few films hang everything on the [TS]

00:59:23   development of a character the way that [TS]

00:59:25   this movie does that's that's really the [TS]

00:59:27   whole point of all of it and this could [TS]

00:59:29   have been Jim Belushi and michael caine [TS]

00:59:31   and mr. destiny and why you got a chip [TS]

00:59:37   on his podcast by raising Jim Belushi's [TS]

00:59:39   that after my repeated grease two [TS]

00:59:41   references you get mad at him nice I [TS]

00:59:45   question the ice sculpting lessons I [TS]

00:59:47   think that was probably a waste of time [TS]

00:59:49   that seems a little odd doesn't it mhm [TS]

00:59:51   and education is never a waste Jason if [TS]

00:59:53   you got that much time [TS]

00:59:54   what a cool thing to be able to there's [TS]

00:59:56   a chainsaw and their blocks of ice why [TS]

00:59:58   not pay bribe the guy [TS]

00:59:58   not pay bribe the guy [TS]

01:00:00   they teach you how to do some my [TS]

01:00:01   sculpting he's gonna be sculpted nice [TS]

01:00:02   today anyway and Bill Murray's he's [TS]

01:00:04   actually using the chainsaw at one point [TS]

01:00:06   which is pre-cut pretty good but she [TS]

01:00:08   just kind of cutting cutting slots into [TS]

01:00:10   the right they still a change huh [TS]

01:00:13   and they went back to that like three or [TS]

01:00:15   four times during the movie right [TS]

01:00:17   oh we're back to the high school team [TS]

01:00:18   again yeah that's a weird one but the [TS]

01:00:21   thing is that with all these new skills [TS]

01:00:23   he's got you know that you know on [TS]

01:00:25   subsequent days nowadays out of the time [TS]

01:00:26   loop he's still going to be kind of a [TS]

01:00:28   stud mean he's a guy who can i sculpt [TS]

01:00:30   and play the piano and you can sculpt [TS]

01:00:32   one head all right yeah let's just [TS]

01:00:34   sculpt you know you're usually too many [TS]

01:00:36   teenage on the Eagle right all right [TS]

01:00:39   yeah maybe skills know maybe boy talk [TS]

01:00:43   about hell you're trapped listening to [TS]

01:00:45   the morning zoo every morning and seeing [TS]

01:00:47   terrible jokes they're ready badge but [TS]

01:00:50   that's what it's like listening to a [TS]

01:00:52   morning zoo in real life though the [TS]

01:00:55   rotating new jokes you never had the [TS]

01:00:57   best elementary school and high school [TS]

01:00:59   they they had the morning zoo on and i [TS]

01:01:01   think i have no escape [TS]

01:01:03   okay campers rise and shine well that's [TS]

01:01:05   what that's what makes that morning [TS]

01:01:07   scene so have such impact is that [TS]

01:01:10   everybody's ever listen to morning radio [TS]

01:01:11   is like yes this is exactly how it goes [TS]

01:01:14   right yeah no I have a theory that I [TS]

01:01:16   first noticed for the first time in this [TS]

01:01:18   one on his last day something changes [TS]

01:01:22   before the end because its nose when he [TS]

01:01:26   and Anna MacDonald are outside and we [TS]

01:01:27   had never seen that before which I never [TS]

01:01:30   noticed in the past but this time i [TS]

01:01:31   noticed Bill Murray's reaction to it [TS]

01:01:33   when it starts snowing [TS]

01:01:34   he looks visibly surprise like this is [TS]

01:01:37   something different so I i think that [TS]

01:01:39   maybe at that point he somehow knew or [TS]

01:01:43   suspected at least that it was it was [TS]

01:01:45   finally over [TS]

01:01:47   it's because there's a butterfly in [TS]

01:01:48   South America also having the same day [TS]

01:01:51   over and over again [TS]

01:01:52   it finally figured out what to do that's [TS]

01:01:55   a chaos theory joka its rightful is it [TS]

01:01:58   thanks for explaining that to me that's [TS]

01:01:59   why is your funny fashion culture is [TS]

01:02:03   implanted them all [TS]

01:02:04   yeah male Andie McDowell we should do a [TS]

01:02:09   movie together okay [TS]

01:02:10   yes they should because and you [TS]

01:02:12   complained about me talking about [TS]

01:02:13   involution all right some people got to [TS]

01:02:15   do their favorite lines i'm throwing [TS]

01:02:16   mine okay do a tie for me it's a tie [TS]

01:02:18   between I don't know where you're headed [TS]

01:02:20   but can you call in sick and what do you [TS]

01:02:26   say what do you say you little brat you [TS]

01:02:28   have never thank me tomorrow i love that [TS]

01:02:31   yeah I could just runs away with this [TS]

01:02:32   big smile on his face every single time [TS]

01:02:35   i'll see you tomorrow maybe maybe 51 out [TS]

01:02:39   of 10 times I just let you die [TS]

01:02:41   yeah actually my all-time favorite line [TS]

01:02:44   is yes but my father was a piano mover [TS]

01:02:47   we don't know why I had an ex-boyfriend [TS]

01:02:49   for you that line all the time and it's [TS]

01:02:52   just cracked me up ever since [TS]

01:02:53   yeah I'm with jason i think my favorite [TS]

01:02:55   is well no probably not now [TS]

01:02:59   yeah it's very light you could still be [TS]

01:03:02   a lot that is great my favorite line [TS]

01:03:04   isn't one of the funny ones i just it [TS]

01:03:06   always gets me when he says not today [TS]

01:03:08   like this is my day [TS]

01:03:11   oh that's right when he started dying [TS]

01:03:12   that's why I just died yeah oh yeah [TS]

01:03:14   that's a great line very possessive of [TS]

01:03:17   his day more than of his town I think [TS]

01:03:19   well what if there is no tomorrow there [TS]

01:03:21   wasn't one today [TS]

01:03:24   don't you worry about cholesterol I [TS]

01:03:26   don't worry about anything anything [TS]

01:03:27   that's what makes me so special that [TS]

01:03:31   scene isn't simultaneously my most and [TS]

01:03:33   least favorite scene of the movie [TS]

01:03:35   because that spread of food there and [TS]

01:03:37   just off of all of the things that he is [TS]

01:03:39   able to do in the movie i think just [TS]

01:03:41   being able to eat all of that stuff is [TS]

01:03:44   the one thing that I'm the most jealous [TS]

01:03:45   of and I don't like what that says about [TS]

01:03:47   myself but it's true i mean you totally [TS]

01:03:49   do that if there's absolutely no [TS]

01:03:51   consequences to anything [TS]

01:03:53   then why wouldn't you do it because you [TS]

01:03:55   know nothing's going to change that mean [TS]

01:03:57   that that's what the whole movies about [TS]

01:03:58   is you can literally do anything it [TS]

01:03:59   doesn't it doesn't matter [TS]

01:04:01   I going out jump off the clock tower [TS]

01:04:03   doesn't matter [TS]

01:04:04   yeah i mean watching watching this thing [TS]

01:04:06   it makes me you know wistful about we're [TS]

01:04:09   wishing i had more time to learn the [TS]

01:04:10   piano don't learn to draw all that yeah [TS]

01:04:13   you know he has that he has this [TS]

01:04:15   he's at the he gets past the I want to [TS]

01:04:18   get something from these other people [TS]

01:04:20   stop moments and he gets into the I want [TS]

01:04:23   to learn all this stuff and do all of [TS]

01:04:25   this really cool stuff [TS]

01:04:26   and that's that's the that's the [TS]

01:04:29   bittersweet thing for me it's not so [TS]

01:04:30   much the the the spread of pastry but [TS]

01:04:34   the the stuff that he gets to do that i [TS]

01:04:40   will never have all the time that I want [TS]

01:04:42   to do that's one of my favorite parts of [TS]

01:04:43   the movie is that there's this [TS]

01:04:44   underlying theme of what would you do if [TS]

01:04:46   you had all the time in the world and [TS]

01:04:49   you know and he was never gonna run out [TS]

01:04:50   right [TS]

01:04:51   learn to be an ice sculptor but there's [TS]

01:04:52   a limited number of things in the town [TS]

01:04:54   for him to use as resources and it's not [TS]

01:04:57   as turn that exists so you can only you [TS]

01:05:00   can only read the books that are in the [TS]

01:05:01   library or bookstore [TS]

01:05:02   yeah I imagine he's read every book at [TS]

01:05:04   the library there's only one diner and [TS]

01:05:06   they serve exactly the same meal in [TS]

01:05:08   exactly the same way every single day [TS]

01:05:10   yeah you probably think of those [TS]

01:05:12   pastries pretty quick but we know he did [TS]

01:05:14   not learn to become a great chef on this [TS]

01:05:16   day actually one of the things that's [TS]

01:05:19   funny is that if that if if the diner [TS]

01:05:21   literally has the same food every day [TS]

01:05:25   you could be like I want that pastry on [TS]

01:05:27   the left because that's a good that's [TS]

01:05:29   the goodness a good one you really have [TS]

01:05:31   literally no that that was the good [TS]

01:05:33   pastry but even if you order something [TS]

01:05:35   off the menu it's going to be made [TS]

01:05:36   exactly the same way unless you run back [TS]

01:05:38   into the kitchen and then you know throw [TS]

01:05:40   some salt in there so but i do like the [TS]

01:05:41   idea that you might have a favorite [TS]

01:05:42   donut my tree house that's a good donut [TS]

01:05:46   you gotta get that don't but you gotta [TS]

01:05:47   get it right away because then this [TS]

01:05:48   other guys gonna order that donut if you [TS]

01:05:50   don't get in line right away so you got [TS]

01:05:52   to get that done before he does like [TS]

01:05:54   that the perfect donut [TS]

01:05:55   i goddamn orchestrated nobody ever [TS]

01:05:57   orders the pastry know it's gonna be [TS]

01:05:59   there at the end of the day they'll give [TS]

01:06:00   it to give it to you at the end of the [TS]

01:06:01   day to come in [TS]

01:06:02   that's a certain thing they just give it [TS]

01:06:03   to you that that is the meaning of this [TS]

01:06:05   movie the true meaning of this movie is [TS]

01:06:06   if you understand all the food at the [TS]

01:06:08   diner then you can finally be at peace [TS]

01:06:12   you're right he's a total mess on [TS]

01:06:13   februari third disney and probably for [TS]

01:06:16   weeks or months afterwards he's he's a [TS]

01:06:19   mess [TS]

01:06:20   what people are saying things I don't [TS]

01:06:21   expect and don't understand he's [TS]

01:06:23   probably gonna get hit by a car because [TS]

01:06:25   not even used to looking both ways when [TS]

01:06:26   crossing the center because we know [TS]

01:06:28   what's wrong with others are that's why [TS]

01:06:29   he needs reader reader needs to take [TS]

01:06:31   care of him [TS]

01:06:32   yeah she strikes me as the kind of [TS]

01:06:33   person who would be ok with that with [TS]

01:06:35   her sweet vermouth on the ice just fire [TS]

01:06:37   some rice rhinestones will be happy that [TS]

01:06:39   this [TS]

01:06:40   this conversation we've we've spent a [TS]

01:06:42   lot of time you know dissecting and [TS]

01:06:43   cutting way deep into this and finding [TS]

01:06:46   all the darkest resource recesses of [TS]

01:06:48   this movie [TS]

01:06:49   welcome to the uncomfortable tip all [TS]

01:06:52   about dark recesses here we've poked all [TS]

01:06:54   kinds of holes in the redemption arc and [TS]

01:06:56   still we love the redemption arc well [TS]

01:06:59   it's true it feels true true to itself [TS]

01:07:01   and even though [TS]

01:07:04   well I think we can ask questions about [TS]

01:07:05   it because there's a lot of this that is [TS]

01:07:07   open to interpretation but i think it at [TS]

01:07:13   its core it is true it is true to itself [TS]

01:07:15   it is you can overlook because it's so [TS]

01:07:18   kind of hazy and weird you can overlook [TS]

01:07:21   some of the the specifics and just you [TS]

01:07:26   know i I don't I can't watch this movie [TS]

01:07:28   without feeling like it is it is earned [TS]

01:07:31   the the journey that takes I think the [TS]

01:07:34   thing for me is that every single person [TS]

01:07:36   has a certain amount of darkness and [TS]

01:07:38   them and if you found yourself in this [TS]

01:07:41   situation you know maybe not you [TS]

01:07:42   specifically but i think a lot of people [TS]

01:07:44   would go through and do some of the same [TS]

01:07:46   awful things that he finds himself going [TS]

01:07:48   through have systemic time if not you [TS]

01:07:52   know all i know is sometimes when I'm [TS]

01:07:54   dreaming i realize i'm dreaming and in [TS]

01:07:56   the lucid dream state when I realized oh [TS]

01:07:59   I can do anything and the world is [TS]

01:08:01   completely controlled by my imagination [TS]

01:08:03   is a good thing to do monte sometimes [TS]

01:08:05   you do nice things for people sometimes [TS]

01:08:09   sir [TS]

01:08:09   hey why not clean not at all dirty [TS]

01:08:13   things i do I it's a terrible thing that [TS]

01:08:17   he does early in the movie but i do [TS]

01:08:19   enjoy his strategy with Nancy just [TS]

01:08:23   because it's the it is that question of [TS]

01:08:26   like well this is something you can do [TS]

01:08:28   because there are no consequences when [TS]

01:08:29   he just he just asked the questions and [TS]

01:08:32   he's like very businesslike just what I [TS]

01:08:34   no no just don't just tell me and then [TS]

01:08:36   you flip it and and he's acting like he [TS]

01:08:39   knows her and and he goes from there and [TS]

01:08:41   I that's really amusing even though [TS]

01:08:43   again it is [TS]

01:08:45   skeezy I do find it highly unlikely that [TS]

01:08:47   she would believe that she shared a 12th [TS]

01:08:49   grade class with Bill Murray the Dino [TS]

01:08:51   but she's just gonna lie [TS]

01:08:53   don't she looks about a third his age I [TS]

01:08:56   but I'm i don't believe i don't remember [TS]

01:08:59   most of the people that I was in high [TS]

01:09:00   school with somebody could absolutely do [TS]

01:09:02   that to me and I would just buy it so [TS]

01:09:04   but they wouldn't they wouldn't look [TS]

01:09:05   three times your age more than little [TS]

01:09:07   bit you think maybe if you know all of [TS]

01:09:09   this is our way it's like that there's [TS]

01:09:11   that study where they had the the person [TS]

01:09:13   who's behind a receptionist desk and [TS]

01:09:16   when you weren't looking [TS]

01:09:18   they they dropped under the desk and a [TS]

01:09:20   different person popped up and they [TS]

01:09:22   continue the conversation and most [TS]

01:09:23   people had no idea that the person was [TS]

01:09:25   different because their brain just [TS]

01:09:27   wasn't even tracking who this person was [TS]

01:09:28   they weren't paying attention to it [TS]

01:09:30   I feel like it's a little bit like that [TS]

01:09:31   it's like if you've got these key facts [TS]

01:09:33   that unlocks the key and you're like all [TS]

01:09:34   right well I guess how how else could [TS]

01:09:36   you know you must have been there you [TS]

01:09:38   know you you haven't aged well i guess [TS]

01:09:40   but you must have been in my class so I [TS]

01:09:44   i took that on i'm right and well that's [TS]

01:09:46   not that that's not that than the nicest [TS]

01:09:48   way to pick somebody up [TS]

01:09:49   I don't really feel that that one is [TS]

01:09:51   necessarily to terrible because I mean [TS]

01:09:53   she [TS]

01:09:54   it's not like he does anything too weird [TS]

01:09:56   he just says he knows some things and [TS]

01:09:58   she completely goes along with it and is [TS]

01:10:00   you know apparently has a good time so [TS]

01:10:02   it does seem to take only one shot with [TS]

01:10:04   Nancy so perhaps she's not announced [TS]

01:10:06   never sees more accessible [TS]

01:10:09   she's she's she's comfortable in her own [TS]

01:10:11   sexuality and good liquor [TS]

01:10:13   yeah he just needs to he just needs to [TS]

01:10:14   get the right icebreaker you gotta [TS]

01:10:16   wonder how many tonight's it took him to [TS]

01:10:18   get the chipmunk noises their pic you [TS]

01:10:21   know I you know I wonder if you needed [TS]

01:10:23   to bother with that I mean she just [TS]

01:10:24   seems like she's she's pretty cool girl [TS]

01:10:26   so maybe he could have just had some [TS]

01:10:27   honest fun with her but he wasn't at [TS]

01:10:29   that point in his journey at the [TS]

01:10:30   beginning so maybe he did later maybe [TS]

01:10:32   maybe he tried the the real approach [TS]

01:10:35   later on i like to think maybe Nancy [TS]

01:10:37   maybe nancy was like a little bit of a [TS]

01:10:38   vacation for him every now and then he'd [TS]

01:10:40   be like hi then I've been doing a lot of [TS]

01:10:42   sculpting and piano lessons and reading [TS]

01:10:44   books at the library i'm going to take a [TS]

01:10:45   Nancy day now just hang out with Nancy a [TS]

01:10:48   little bit yeah tonight's of fat guy at [TS]

01:10:50   the hotel kind of pay tonight it's [TS]

01:10:54   jeopardy with the old people and [TS]

01:10:55   throwing cards and a hat I'm feeling [TS]

01:10:57   down I like the fact that he takes the [TS]

01:10:59   time to push the toast in before he [TS]

01:11:01   drops the toaster [TS]

01:11:03   yeah that's how you turn the electricity [TS]

01:11:06   that is coming as a carpenter august if [TS]

01:11:09   you don't do that the heating coils [TS]

01:11:11   aren't getting power [TS]

01:11:12   yeah but it's still an electrical the [TS]

01:11:14   appliance dropped in the middle of water [TS]

01:11:16   you gotta you gotta you know training [TS]

01:11:18   yeah something like that the toast is [TS]

01:11:20   very important Steve it's very important [TS]

01:11:22   to now the I think you're curious as to [TS]

01:11:24   what will happen if he you know the [TS]

01:11:26   toast is made well he's being [TS]

01:11:28   electrocuted course I've never texted [TS]

01:11:30   checking out the next hundred days [TS]

01:11:32   before that this and this is the best [TS]

01:11:34   way to do it you have determined the [TS]

01:11:35   first time you did it without the [TS]

01:11:36   toasted didn't work so then he just [TS]

01:11:38   knows this time that you have the toast [TS]

01:11:40   fell out and it blocked the toaster from [TS]

01:11:42   you know landing in the bathtub and when [TS]

01:11:44   he remind someone in the chatroom said [TS]

01:11:46   that toast is the most conductive what [TS]

01:11:51   those bridges the gap yeah it's nothin [TS]

01:11:54   that's exactly it i think they figured [TS]

01:11:56   it out the chatroom should have their [TS]

01:11:57   own podcast should the involving toast [TS]

01:12:00   I I do i do feel to cut circle back to [TS]

01:12:03   where we started as unlikely as it is i [TS]

01:12:06   do think this is actually one uh I think [TS]

01:12:08   this is a monumental film i think this [TS]

01:12:10   is one of my favorites and I I think you [TS]

01:12:12   could argue can make a strong argument [TS]

01:12:14   that is it is in the you know you can [TS]

01:12:17   pick a number but it is among the three [TS]

01:12:19   great films because it is not only funny [TS]

01:12:22   but it is meaningful and it is of it is [TS]

01:12:25   it is itself it is this unique amazing [TS]

01:12:29   thing and clever [TS]

01:12:31   yeah and I like a lot of movies like I [TS]

01:12:34   would I would never say that real genius [TS]

01:12:36   which is one of my very favorite movies [TS]

01:12:38   of all time is among the great films [TS]

01:12:40   that have ever been made but groundhog [TS]

01:12:42   day I think it is one of the great films [TS]

01:12:45   that have ever been made i really really [TS]

01:12:46   do i'm excited about the fact that this [TS]

01:12:48   is one of the great comedies from my [TS]

01:12:51   youth that I can actually show the kids [TS]

01:12:54   oh yeah I haven't done it yet but I mean [TS]

01:12:56   this is it's a pg-rated film IQs [TS]

01:12:58   innovated PG is for thematic elements [TS]

01:13:00   which means probably the segment where [TS]

01:13:02   he commits suicide repeatedly yeah so [TS]

01:13:05   you know I there isn't a single thing in [TS]

01:13:07   here where I have to you know like cough [TS]

01:13:09   to cover up a word or well there's the [TS]

01:13:11   suggestions of of of sex and but they're [TS]

01:13:15   pretty right hand but they are six [TS]

01:13:16   and rolling around making out kind of [TS]

01:13:18   stay exactly if you if you are old [TS]

01:13:20   enough to get what they're about [TS]

01:13:22   e you're old enough to watch the movie [TS]

01:13:24   because I younger than that you won't [TS]

01:13:26   get it don't matter i'm more concerned [TS]

01:13:29   about the use of the phrase gobblers [TS]

01:13:31   knob and I am good i have that may know [TS]

01:13:33   it's too i don't get the final line of [TS]

01:13:36   the film i just want to say that was the [TS]

01:13:39   final line [TS]

01:13:39   well the father it the legislature here [TS]

01:13:42   that's ripped Ricans we can rent to [TS]

01:13:44   start at follow-up and I there's a joke [TS]

01:13:47   in there [TS]

01:13:47   I don't get it the joke is that he [TS]

01:13:49   doesn't although he has accepted the [TS]

01:13:51   city [TS]

01:13:53   he's not accepted permanence yet let's [TS]

01:13:57   keep our options open yeah I can tell [TS]

01:13:59   how does that apply to what's come [TS]

01:14:00   before it doesn't mean maybe he just [TS]

01:14:02   realizes how weird is that he just tried [TS]

01:14:05   to get someone who he's been with for a [TS]

01:14:07   day to my house of them out places make [TS]

01:14:10   a meat that maybe I I think it's kind of [TS]

01:14:12   a joke about about the the fact that he [TS]

01:14:14   spent 10,000 years in this town and so [TS]

01:14:16   he doesn't want to fully commit to [TS]

01:14:18   staying just bizarre [TS]

01:14:20   I don't know why but I were you're right [TS]

01:14:22   Steve it's like a joke that's not a joke [TS]

01:14:25   it's like to live here is great if it [TS]

01:14:27   ended on let's live here I'd have been [TS]

01:14:29   happy and and I actually forgotten that [TS]

01:14:30   there was the follow up there but it's [TS]

01:14:33   if if you're going to end on a line [TS]

01:14:35   that's a joke like that you should end [TS]

01:14:37   on a line that's really applicable to [TS]

01:14:39   the themes of the movie and to me it's [TS]

01:14:41   just kinda know I like that he's not [TS]

01:14:43   willing to commit to the place yet [TS]

01:14:45   like let's try it out for me bent only [TS]

01:14:48   been here ten thousand days exactly [TS]

01:14:50   maybe you'll get the next one we went on [TS]

01:14:53   the edge [TS]

01:14:53   well I think he's sold i mean i think to [TS]

01:14:55   him thanks x become home right and he [TS]

01:14:58   doesn't want to freak out Rita yeah [TS]

01:15:00   exactly i just think that he's yes it's [TS]

01:15:02   home for him now but stepping out for [TS]

01:15:04   her [TS]

01:15:04   we're we're you're right it isn't it is [TS]

01:15:07   kind of weird i think it's funny because [TS]

01:15:08   it is that undercut of like he's at [TS]

01:15:10   let's live here rent with you will just [TS]

01:15:12   try out but just didn't he backs off of [TS]

01:15:15   but you know a lot of perhaps it's just [TS]

01:15:17   he's not entirely gone over to the [TS]

01:15:20   do-gooder lifestyle there's still a [TS]

01:15:22   little bit of a little bit of the road [TS]

01:15:24   is ongoing be a terrific the groundhog [TS]

01:15:27   is great [TS]

01:15:28   yeah that groundhog is extremely [TS]

01:15:30   cute yes I've angry don't Drive Angry [TS]

01:15:31   Drive Angry you doing pretty well for a [TS]

01:15:33   cock blood yeah everything according to [TS]

01:15:36   the commentary is seconds after that [TS]

01:15:38   don't Drive Angry the the groundhog [TS]

01:15:41   turned around and bit a chunk of the [TS]

01:15:43   leather gloves he was wearing very [TS]

01:15:45   excited that the spoon he puts on just [TS]

01:15:48   the line the second don't Drive Angry [TS]

01:15:50   don't Drive Angry it's really really [TS]

01:15:54   good [TS]

01:15:54   yeah yeah i would say i would put that [TS]

01:15:55   would say this is probably memories best [TS]

01:15:57   work [TS]

01:15:58   yeah oh yeah I mean yeah I mean that's [TS]

01:16:01   hard to say there's so many good ones i [TS]

01:16:03   really like obviously like Ghostbusters [TS]

01:16:06   I really like him quick change em I i [TS]

01:16:10   really like quick-change actually I [TS]

01:16:12   think that's one of his best movies but [TS]

01:16:13   i like you know that what kind of clever [TS]

01:16:15   you have the crying on the inside kind i [TS]

01:16:17   guess i like him that I like him in like [TS]

01:16:21   a min Rushmore but I feel like he's kind [TS]

01:16:22   of OneNote there [TS]

01:16:24   yeah yeah that's good darling the broken [TS]

01:16:25   schlubs a really good note but i mean [TS]

01:16:27   that's that's like his standard note [TS]

01:16:29   well it was more revelation when he [TS]

01:16:31   played in Rushmore he's played in every [TS]

01:16:34   movie since rush to get yeah like I [TS]

01:16:37   liked him and steve zissou doing the [TS]

01:16:39   same thing right well he kind of plays [TS]

01:16:41   it here too i mean it's it's been his [TS]

01:16:43   sort of lost in translation [TS]

01:16:45   Yeah right right it's good it's a good [TS]

01:16:48   note they were agreed its best movie [TS]

01:16:50   stripes [TS]

01:16:52   I like stripes it's gonna be like [TS]

01:16:55   stripes a lot a good movie [TS]

01:16:57   I this might be Harold Ramos is best [TS]

01:16:59   moment too although i still hold out [TS]

01:17:01   that Caddyshack might be better but [TS]

01:17:03   Caddyshack does not have the sort of [TS]

01:17:06   spiritual elevation yeah yeah you really [TS]

01:17:08   just like him as neurologist [TS]

01:17:10   yeah his bloated cameo which reminds me [TS]

01:17:13   so much of the bloated cameo and elf [TS]

01:17:15   where jon favreau yes as a doctor for a [TS]

01:17:17   few space is the same it's the it's the [TS]

01:17:20   doctor cameo it's really impressive to [TS]

01:17:22   look at this next to caddy shack where [TS]

01:17:23   Kenny Shaq is [TS]

01:17:25   barely organized and is just overrun [TS]

01:17:29   with people improvising and throwing out [TS]

01:17:32   the actual plot and then look at you [TS]

01:17:34   look at Groundhog Day which is so [TS]

01:17:35   tightly plotted and so you can't really [TS]

01:17:39   very anything that I up and apparently I [TS]

01:17:43   I because i do think this movie [TS]

01:17:44   obviously such a great critical success [TS]

01:17:46   of HS it works and yet apparently there [TS]

01:17:51   was during the making of this movie a [TS]

01:17:52   falling-out between Bill Murray and [TS]

01:17:54   harold ramis and until shortly before [TS]

01:17:56   harold ramis died they basically didn't [TS]

01:17:59   speak which is really yeah which is [TS]

01:18:01   really sad nobody knows nobody seems to [TS]

01:18:03   know why and I think that happens a lot [TS]

01:18:06   with things involving Bill Murray nobody [TS]

01:18:08   in the interview with him on the DVD he [TS]

01:18:10   has nothing but good things to say about [TS]

01:18:12   the memory so yeah I i get a set of [TS]

01:18:14   one-sided night yeah I get the sense [TS]

01:18:16   that Bill Murray had something that [TS]

01:18:18   really bugged him we don't know but but [TS]

01:18:21   I did read that before fairly shortly [TS]

01:18:25   before when it was clear that Harold [TS]

01:18:26   Ramis was very ill that they that they [TS]

01:18:29   spoke and they kind of buried the [TS]

01:18:31   hatchet which is which is good but that [TS]

01:18:33   is good it is a shame because that was a [TS]

01:18:35   collaboration [TS]

01:18:35   I mean again Ghostbusters one of my very [TS]

01:18:37   favorites and then this is a you know [TS]

01:18:39   this is this spectacular movie and and [TS]

01:18:41   there they both deserve a lot of credit [TS]

01:18:43   for daz does Danny rubin who who wrote a [TS]

01:18:46   book called how to write Groundhog Day [TS]

01:18:47   which tells the story of what he did did [TS]

01:18:50   the makers of edge of tomorrow read that [TS]

01:18:52   I do wonder how much of this is really [TS]

01:18:54   his original script and how much of it [TS]

01:18:56   is is Ramos well as well in the end of [TS]

01:18:58   his script is in the book apparently [TS]

01:19:00   he's really well yeah it's the story of [TS]

01:19:02   of the screenplay and the process of [TS]

01:19:05   getting it from from screenplay the [TS]

01:19:07   screen and how it changed and and all [TS]

01:19:08   that is is apparently in in the book I [TS]

01:19:10   haven't read might have to pick the [TS]

01:19:11   right about yeah i'm intrigued by myself [TS]

01:19:13   in this interview he talks about how it [TS]

01:19:15   you know he picked up the script and he [TS]

01:19:17   did all these things within the way you [TS]

01:19:19   phrase it is then I rewrote it [TS]

01:19:21   yeah oh well I get this is the Reuben [TS]

01:19:24   was involved to a certain degree and [TS]

01:19:25   that it was it was a conversation that [TS]

01:19:28   they kept having about it that could be [TS]

01:19:29   i just wonder how much of his original [TS]

01:19:31   script actually survived and given his [TS]

01:19:33   other filmic output you know compared to [TS]

01:19:36   what Harold rain has produced over his [TS]

01:19:38   lifetime and [TS]

01:19:38   astex over how much absolutely agree [TS]

01:19:41   completely but you know sometimes you [TS]

01:19:44   catch lightning in a bottle in IE [TS]

01:19:46   absolutely this there's a really cute [TS]

01:19:48   groundhog on the cover of how to write [TS]

01:19:49   ground without i'm sold check out how I [TS]

01:19:53   can't believe this hasn't been mentioned [TS]

01:19:54   yet [TS]

01:19:54   strike up the music the band has begun [TS]

01:19:58   don't you have a little vain ya poka [TS]

01:20:01   very nice pick up your partner and join [TS]

01:20:05   in the fun bow Erica just do that remind [TS]

01:20:08   you of home [TS]

01:20:09   the pencil fame this lots of polkas in [TS]

01:20:12   Wisconsin there are so many focus at [TS]

01:20:14   this [TS]

01:20:15   the funny thing is is Steven didn't he'd [TS]

01:20:17   never heard that song before I he [TS]

01:20:18   thought it sounded kind of creepy as [TS]

01:20:20   like you've never heard the Pennsylvania [TS]

01:20:21   point and it's like okay Terry Francona [TS]

01:20:23   want right there yeah but i love how we [TS]

01:20:25   get deeper and deeper into this and the [TS]

01:20:27   more uncomfortable he gets the the Polka [TS]

01:20:30   gets this reverb on reverbnation me and [TS]

01:20:33   creepier and creepier cat that was that [TS]

01:20:35   was what Stephen and he thought he [TS]

01:20:37   thought it sounded like a polka being [TS]

01:20:38   played to the speakers at the Overlook [TS]

01:20:40   Hotel because employers gasps [TS]

01:20:42   fundamentally it does you know we [TS]

01:20:43   actually we used to sing the abbey sing [TS]

01:20:45   the Pennsylvania polka in elementary [TS]

01:20:47   school in music class our memories and [TS]

01:20:50   you weren't even in Pennsylvania [TS]

01:20:52   nope nope amazing Wisconsin has adopted [TS]

01:20:56   poka poka is was for Wisconsin it [TS]

01:21:00   doesn't matter [TS]

01:21:00   well so Erica and dan you're both [TS]

01:21:02   Midwestern nurses it strikes me [TS]

01:21:04   western Pennsylvania my family is from [TS]

01:21:07   my mom's side of the family is from [TS]

01:21:08   western Pennsylvania and I've argued in [TS]

01:21:10   the past that it is more Midwestern an [TS]

01:21:13   Eastern there are a lot of people who [TS]

01:21:14   think that eastern Pennsylvania is just [TS]

01:21:16   an eastern state but but uh regardless [TS]

01:21:18   of that i mean this movie it is this is [TS]

01:21:20   a Midwestern town shot in illinois right [TS]

01:21:22   it it's got the bulk of that that do you [TS]

01:21:24   guys have any I mean just does this [TS]

01:21:26   resonate with you because it is it is [TS]

01:21:29   this little slice of kind of classic [TS]

01:21:31   Midwestern town yes absolutely [TS]

01:21:34   I've been to so many church festivals [TS]

01:21:36   and you know town things like that it [TS]

01:21:38   that that is true to life you know get [TS]

01:21:40   the little little diner restaurant with [TS]

01:21:42   the same people in their everyday and [TS]

01:21:44   you know the the the line about what [TS]

01:21:46   would you do if every day was the same [TS]

01:21:48   and you're stuck in one place and [TS]

01:21:49   nothing you didn't matter [TS]

01:21:50   yeah I know what people don't realize [TS]

01:21:53   that way so welcome to grade school [TS]

01:21:56   yeah i know i mean i-i I went to high [TS]

01:21:59   school and grew up later than life [TS]

01:22:00   outside of Chicago but when I was [TS]

01:22:02   younger it was this kind of town right [TS]

01:22:04   where the small town square where [TS]

01:22:06   everyone knows each other there's like [TS]

01:22:07   you know a hundred people in your high [TS]

01:22:10   school and everybody knows everyone [TS]

01:22:12   else's business [TS]

01:22:13   yeah it is totally a Midwestern type of [TS]

01:22:16   film rather than Eastern there's no [TS]

01:22:18   doubt about it yeah i mean i picked [TS]

01:22:20   punxsutawney again like I said western [TS]

01:22:22   Pennsylvania especially it is yeah it is [TS]

01:22:24   a mixture it is much more Midwestern [TS]

01:22:26   than you might think or you know right [TS]

01:22:28   there by the ohio border but this this [TS]

01:22:31   to me even feels like you know it's [TS]

01:22:34   fitting that they shot in Illinois [TS]

01:22:36   because it feels a little more like that [TS]

01:22:37   than it does like western Pennsylvania [TS]

01:22:39   but what will oremus for saying that [TS]

01:22:41   they were actually driving around [TS]

01:22:42   Chicago we're just looking for sites and [TS]

01:22:44   stuff and they were pulled through into [TS]

01:22:46   Woodstock and pulled up into the Town [TS]

01:22:48   Square to get coffee and they stepped [TS]

01:22:49   out and they all can look around there [TS]

01:22:51   like yep [TS]

01:22:52   huh this is it yeah that looks just like [TS]

01:22:56   that i can accept with the plaques now [TS]

01:22:59   tell you now they have examined grand in [TS]

01:23:01   advertisements corner here was it [TS]

01:23:03   pennsylvania hotel or something like [TS]

01:23:04   that [TS]

01:23:05   yeah yeah the one that the one that [TS]

01:23:07   ended with allstate at all right do they [TS]

01:23:09   purposely keep a pot hole right there [TS]

01:23:11   where Ned Ryerson i'll show ya i find [TS]

01:23:13   myself wondering you know if they got to [TS]

01:23:15   jackhammer out the pothole to create the [TS]

01:23:18   slush [TS]

01:23:18   yeah at all for the story there i'm sure [TS]

01:23:21   there is like the bonus material on the [TS]

01:23:24   D found a couple more quick notes okay [TS]

01:23:26   Leila respected my this is just a plan [TS]

01:23:29   for killing the president will skip that [TS]

01:23:30   for now we'll get back to the bonus [TS]

01:23:34   track that's more bonus traffic dear my [TS]

01:23:37   favorite early mean Phil moment is is on [TS]

01:23:41   the first day when he encounters the old [TS]

01:23:42   beggar he doesn't think where he [TS]

01:23:44   pretends to feel for his wallet and then [TS]

01:23:46   he walks on [TS]

01:23:46   oh yeah and then on the second day even [TS]

01:23:49   though he's in the midst of this near [TS]

01:23:50   panic where he's realizing what's going [TS]

01:23:52   on he does it again [TS]

01:23:53   yes it's just it's completely part of [TS]

01:23:55   his character is part of his being that [TS]

01:23:57   he fakes out that the guy begging for [TS]

01:23:59   money and doesn't give him anything [TS]

01:24:01   and then last thing does the black [TS]

01:24:05   bartender who's job seems to be just to [TS]

01:24:07   shake his head at people [TS]

01:24:08   does he know what's going on Oh is he do [TS]

01:24:11   you you think he's the magical angel who [TS]

01:24:14   spends ten thousand years standing there [TS]

01:24:16   saying when is this tour could ask me [TS]

01:24:18   why I keep taking my head and he never [TS]

01:24:20   actually gets noticed there's gotta be a [TS]

01:24:22   reason why his whole purpose is to like [TS]

01:24:24   look at in kind of smirk and shake his [TS]

01:24:27   head and go back to wiping his glass but [TS]

01:24:29   it doesn't matter what happens around [TS]

01:24:31   him [TS]

01:24:32   that's too maybe that's just it maybe he [TS]

01:24:34   just does that no matter what happens [TS]

01:24:36   around him that's his character he's [TS]

01:24:39   also stuck in the state but he gave up a [TS]

01:24:41   long yeah I like I'm actually play [TS]

01:24:44   that's one of the one of the things [TS]

01:24:45   that's interesting about the novel [TS]

01:24:46   replays that he he discovers as he goes [TS]

01:24:50   there are some other people who are also [TS]

01:24:51   replaying from various times who have [TS]

01:24:54   frames of reference that nobody should [TS]

01:24:55   know in that time and after that is [TS]

01:24:57   something that's interesting in this [TS]

01:24:58   movie where he doesn't have he doesn't [TS]

01:24:59   have anybody again it's a very short [TS]

01:25:02   time scale but that's a that's kind of [TS]

01:25:04   fun moment in that book where they [TS]

01:25:05   actually take out a classified ad in [TS]

01:25:07   like the new york times in the early [TS]

01:25:09   seventies where they list a whole bunch [TS]

01:25:11   of facts about things that happen in the [TS]

01:25:13   future hoping that they can draw out [TS]

01:25:16   other people who remember the future [TS]

01:25:17   they just get crazy people as it turns [TS]

01:25:21   out yeah [TS]

01:25:22   edge of tomorrow being more explicitly a [TS]

01:25:24   riff on these concepts as somebody who [TS]

01:25:27   used to have this problem but doesn't [TS]

01:25:29   anymore huh [TS]

01:25:30   so several times time Cruz has to go to [TS]

01:25:33   the per se I i have that thing you had a [TS]

01:25:36   business I tell you this okay let's move [TS]

01:25:38   on with that wide while they're still [TS]

01:25:40   standing there goggle-eyed he has to [TS]

01:25:42   push them to move the plot is that the [TS]

01:25:44   movie they changed the name of so they [TS]

01:25:45   could sell dvds yeah yeah it's a pretty [TS]

01:25:48   good movie but nobody would see it so [TS]

01:25:50   now it's called lived I repeat [TS]

01:25:52   yeah that was supposedly the original [TS]

01:25:54   name well the other it was it was all [TS]

01:25:56   you need is kill was the was the name of [TS]

01:25:58   the the book that is based on and that's [TS]

01:26:00   a better name too and they change the [TS]

01:26:01   edge of tomorrow which was a really bad [TS]

01:26:03   name and it was a lot and it got good [TS]

01:26:06   reviews and people everybody likes it [TS]

01:26:08   and it was just poorly marketed so they [TS]

01:26:09   yeah they basically retitled it for the [TS]

01:26:12   marketing of the of the video version [TS]

01:26:13   it's fun watching [TS]

01:26:15   I'm Cruz turn into an action hero over [TS]

01:26:17   several cycles and it's fun how brutal [TS]

01:26:21   that movie is and saying well it's time [TS]

01:26:24   to start a new cycle shoot head [TS]

01:26:26   yep i couldn't have lived that day over [TS]

01:26:29   and over i do like haha wasn't making [TS]

01:26:32   love like sea otters yeah yeah yeah yeah [TS]

01:26:34   yeah man you know how others make love [TS]

01:26:36   their horrifying little Monteith's know [TS]

01:26:40   like I'm not why do you because they are [TS]

01:26:43   answer that okay [TS]

01:26:47   gosh I wish we could all live in the [TS]

01:26:49   mountain so high altitude high altitudes [TS]

01:26:51   yeah that's where I see myself in five [TS]

01:26:53   years under your winter prediction was [TS]

01:26:56   gonna be cold it's gonna be crazy and [TS]

01:26:58   it's gonna laugh at you and rest of rest [TS]

01:26:59   so good gonna be a long winter it all [TS]

01:27:05   right well we've reached the end or have [TS]

01:27:08   we know what [TS]

01:27:09   oh uh huh I'd like to thank my guests [TS]

01:27:12   for coming i'm talking about groundhog [TS]

01:27:13   day chips under thanks for being here [TS]

01:27:22   Erica and sign thank you thank you i was [TS]

01:27:26   glad to be able to be here even though [TS]

01:29:00   yeah he just there's a moment of lost [TS]

01:29:02   consciousness and then boot at six [TS]

01:29:04   o'clock again and they could have had a [TS]

01:29:05   scene where things go jump cut to him [TS]

01:29:08   back in the bed have clarified that for [TS]

01:29:20   no mm so the thing that bugs me most [TS]

01:29:23   about Andie McDowell is the fact that [TS]

01:29:25   she's she seems to be like turning on a [TS]
