The Incomparable

234: The Only Way Out Is In

00:00:00   not brain science its rocket surgery [TS]

00:00:01   we're talking about the core the [TS]

00:00:04   incontrovertible number 234 februari [TS]

00:00:09   2015 Jason snow [TS]

00:00:14   i'm dan Morin I'm Tony similar and I [TS]

00:00:17   continue to be John syracuse ah oh you [TS]

00:00:21   know Joe steel asked us suggested to us [TS]

00:00:24   that we should watch the core he's dead [TS]

00:00:26   to all of us now which i'd like to say [TS]

00:00:29   according to wikipedia is a 2003 [TS]

00:00:32   american science fiction disaster film [TS]

00:00:34   and that is that it literally all we can [TS]

00:00:36   say about that i'm going to make an edit [TS]

00:00:37   because disasters in the wrong place and [TS]

00:00:39   that's hey you can't really tell it's [TS]

00:00:41   like German you can't really tell what [TS]

00:00:43   part of the thing that were part of [TS]

00:00:45   sentence the disaster is modifiable so [TS]

00:00:46   we could science fiction is one thing [TS]

00:00:48   and disaster film is another so that's [TS]

00:00:50   where they're going with that you know [TS]

00:00:51   well this film is a disaster [TS]

00:00:53   do I have to speak in defense of the [TS]

00:00:54   core is no way you'll have your time are [TS]

00:00:58   we have the welding statement i was [TS]

00:01:01   speaking of which john any opening [TS]

00:01:02   statements dan anybody got an opening [TS]

00:01:04   statement [TS]

00:01:05   no no can I say that I'm shocked that [TS]

00:01:07   neither roland emmerich or Dean Devlin [TS]

00:01:09   was involved with him in any way it is a [TS]

00:01:12   memory memory escape its it is below [TS]

00:01:16   that quality lime Rickey and this makes [TS]

00:01:19   2012 look like just a masterpiece [TS]

00:01:21   no no thoughts we haven't you ever seen [TS]

00:01:25   those in close proximity like i have i [TS]

00:01:27   was thinking more like stargate but yeah [TS]

00:01:29   I'll Stargate at least had some like [TS]

00:01:31   dependence day is is is better than this [TS]

00:01:34   for sure [TS]

00:01:35   so yeah not coming out yeah this is um [TS]

00:01:37   yeah I don't support spoilers i don't [TS]

00:01:40   know we'll find out later what I thought [TS]

00:01:41   is it the core begins on green world day [TS]

00:01:44   the city of my in our in our lovely [TS]

00:01:46   hotel as a as a resident of the city of [TS]

00:01:48   Boston i can tell you it doesn't look [TS]

00:01:50   like that that's clearly Cooper so I was [TS]

00:01:53   impressed that they painted the team [TS]

00:01:55   logo onto the bus even though it's the [TS]

00:01:57   wrong bus the bus look still totally [TS]

00:01:59   wrong but the logo is correct [TS]

00:02:01   yeah it's I mean it's funny because [TS]

00:02:03   they're like let's like you know until [TS]

00:02:05   later [TS]

00:02:06   yeah let's let slaps them like the from [TS]

00:02:08   Boston pasties on here like have [TS]

00:02:09   somebody walked past the camera eating [TS]

00:02:11   clam chowder [TS]

00:02:12   something then someone vomit up green to [TS]

00:02:15   the series [TS]

00:02:16   yeah but yet you know we will film in a [TS]

00:02:18   city that is that is beautiful and you [TS]

00:02:20   know clearly not Boston you know nothing [TS]

00:02:22   bad ever happens in vancouver though so [TS]

00:02:24   also GreenWorld day I just want to make [TS]

00:02:26   sure because there's a lot of [TS]

00:02:27   misinformation in this movie I don't [TS]

00:02:30   think green world day is an actual [TS]

00:02:31   holiday so let's get that be four times [TS]

00:02:34   are you saying the Green World day while [TS]

00:02:36   a day is not is not honored as a holiday [TS]

00:02:39   are you saying it's not even that may be [TS]

00:02:41   the first scientific in accuracy in the [TS]

00:02:43   movie it's not the last [TS]

00:02:45   well is it similar to the World Peace [TS]

00:02:50   Festival at as seen in the movie [TS]

00:02:52   spider-man they probably something in [TS]

00:02:55   common [TS]

00:02:56   the world is somebody own the rights to [TS]

00:02:57   legitimate holiday for mr. solo birthday [TS]

00:03:02   earth is trademarks guys sorry [TS]

00:03:05   hey everybody its Arbor Day know you you [TS]

00:03:09   don't want to mess with the Arbor Day [TS]

00:03:10   lobby they are big Arbor is gonna come [TS]

00:03:13   get ya we say three days nope to close [TS]

00:03:16   our lawyers say that in french dangerous [TS]

00:03:18   how about green well trees of green but [TS]

00:03:20   you can get away with it if you want [TS]

00:03:22   another word there how about you know [TS]

00:03:23   you don't do you know what the logo for [TS]

00:03:26   green world days it's an earth to Blue [TS]

00:03:28   Earth shaped as what's green but what's [TS]

00:03:31   green everybody an apple [TS]

00:03:32   that's right an apple they picked a red [TS]

00:03:36   fruit apples are sometimes green it's [TS]

00:03:40   not like they think that's the man is [TS]

00:03:41   there sometimes green but if you're [TS]

00:03:42   picking a log over green world then you [TS]

00:03:44   need to make the earth shake like [TS]

00:03:45   something green picking an apple seems [TS]

00:03:47   on John Syracuse's someday you're going [TS]

00:03:49   to granny smith apples going to blow [TS]

00:03:50   your mind [TS]

00:03:51   I said I understand that some apples are [TS]

00:03:53   green but not a great choice for green [TS]

00:03:55   load the file like the fruit lobby has a [TS]

00:03:57   big part in this movie [TS]

00:03:59   between that and the whole like [TS]

00:04:00   flambĂ©ing uh was it like a peach and [TS]

00:04:02   apricot or something later in the [TS]

00:04:04   meeting who didn't understand what [TS]

00:04:06   burning is I also yeah I have a lot i'm [TS]

00:04:08   a lot to say but you're already me to [TS]

00:04:10   skip ahead [TS]

00:04:11   no no yeah you're gonna miss some [TS]

00:04:12   important things because we are we see a [TS]

00:04:16   bunch of yuppies and one of them says [TS]

00:04:19   let's go make 30 million dollars which i [TS]

00:04:22   thought would be really funny if this [TS]

00:04:23   movie didn't make 30 million dollars but [TS]

00:04:24   it did so [TS]

00:04:25   I'm this money made 30 million dollars i [TS]

00:04:27   recognize that actor too and I thought [TS]

00:04:29   he was going to be in the whole movie [TS]

00:04:30   you would think he looks your earlier [TS]

00:04:32   that was that was about the first of [TS]

00:04:34   your disappointments with instead he [TS]

00:04:35   slams his face into a glass table [TS]

00:04:37   yeah that was one of my favorite parts I [TS]

00:04:39   said I that was what Lauren was saying [TS]

00:04:41   before I came in here should i like the [TS]

00:04:43   beginning where it's really creepy and [TS]

00:04:44   people are dying and then there was the [TS]

00:04:46   rest of the move [TS]

00:04:47   well when I was watching the beginning [TS]

00:04:49   when I was thinking of is the leftovers [TS]

00:04:51   HBO show it destroys opens with the real [TS]

00:04:55   steinadler that period yes yes some are [TS]

00:04:57   just but it's the same type of thing [TS]

00:04:59   where either people die or they [TS]

00:05:00   disappear and if they happen to have [TS]

00:05:01   been driving a car or you know doing [TS]

00:05:04   something that needed a person they're [TS]

00:05:06   all sorts of disasters happen and if you [TS]

00:05:08   can so uh flashforward yeah same same [TS]

00:05:11   type of thing I think all those TV shows [TS]

00:05:12   did this scene better than this movie [TS]

00:05:15   plant leaps and bounds just said because [TS]

00:05:16   it's supposed to be like movies have [TS]

00:05:17   bigger budgets and TV shows and stuff [TS]

00:05:19   it's not even close [TS]

00:05:20   also it seems like maybe a lot of people [TS]

00:05:24   had pacemakers like a lot like within [TS]

00:05:27   that one particular area [TS]

00:05:29   yeah but you know young people old [TS]

00:05:31   people do something or are just [TS]

00:05:33   sensitive to electricity man in somewhat [TS]

00:05:36   which is funny because immediately even [TS]

00:05:38   though i'd never seen this movie by [TS]

00:05:40   media thought when they started dropping [TS]

00:05:41   dead with other probably all have [TS]

00:05:42   pacemakers and my mind healthy right [TS]

00:05:45   smart lovely i really am freaky good guy [TS]

00:05:48   with you and encyclopedia brown a [TS]

00:05:50   capitalist way to the earth and good [TS]

00:05:52   luck [TS]

00:05:52   I don't even know your updates that I'm [TS]

00:05:54   not gonna risk it down you go but he's [TS]

00:05:56   also smarter than everybody in the [TS]

00:05:58   military in this movie whoa wow so this [TS]

00:06:01   madness outside there's a crane shot [TS]

00:06:02   there's a there's like buses that are [TS]

00:06:05   slamming into things in a fire truck and [TS]

00:06:07   it's very bad but we did we can't stay [TS]

00:06:09   there long in Boston Boston because we [TS]

00:06:13   have to go to Chicago where Professor [TS]

00:06:15   aaron eckhart is playing a trumpet into [TS]

00:06:18   rocks [TS]

00:06:19   this is also i love this i wish they [TS]

00:06:21   didn't cut away from that because I [TS]

00:06:22   would have loved to known what that was [TS]

00:06:23   going to damage like it's easy doing it [TS]

00:06:26   was going through rockman yes we start [TS]

00:06:28   the demo and he gets interrupted I'm [TS]

00:06:30   like no please continue what was going [TS]

00:06:32   to show us [TS]

00:06:32   I would like I just I really appreciate [TS]

00:06:34   the g-men always show up to recruit [TS]

00:06:37   faculty while their lecture [TS]

00:06:39   and the average research faculty member [TS]

00:06:41   maybe spends two hours a week lecturing [TS]

00:06:44   if it's like if it comes up that they're [TS]

00:06:47   in their schedule but this is the day of [TS]

00:06:48   the big trumpet demo so there's so many [TS]

00:06:50   other hours where they're like they're [TS]

00:06:52   at home there in a lab they're sitting [TS]

00:06:55   in their office the reading email no one [TS]

00:06:57   ever shows up to recruit you for your [TS]

00:06:59   government project while you're like [TS]

00:07:00   you're reading email it's always in the [TS]

00:07:02   middle of a lecture even though faculty [TS]

00:07:04   don't actually spend that much time [TS]

00:07:05   lecturing per week [TS]

00:07:06   well but I mean the cord is not wait [TS]

00:07:07   they might have been coming in just a [TS]

00:07:09   comb his hair also yet someone should [TS]

00:07:11   have told aaron eckhart the frosted [TS]

00:07:13   blond tips for not a thing for him don't [TS]

00:07:16   work for him it was 2003 that was there [TS]

00:07:19   were a lot of mistakes were made in 2003 [TS]

00:07:20   I like the appearance of glenn moore [TS]

00:07:22   show over here you may ask you know him [TS]

00:07:23   as the guy who is always an agent in [TS]

00:07:25   something and yep except when he's [TS]

00:07:27   searing the airport [TS]

00:07:28   well no he's not stealing the enterprise [TS]

00:07:29   he's he's like a security officer so [TS]

00:07:31   even in the future on the starship [TS]

00:07:32   enterprise and structure connect [TS]

00:07:34   generation [TS]

00:07:34   he's also we're security he's always in [TS]

00:07:36   security he wasn't 24 as the same [TS]

00:07:38   character is my character you mean music [TS]

00:07:41   I with some an earpiece [TS]

00:07:43   I mean this again this is a movie i [TS]

00:07:46   enjoy but most of the characters don't [TS]

00:07:49   really have more than likely our [TS]

00:07:52   dimension there are characters [TS]

00:07:53   yeah I mean it's the french guy he's [TS]

00:07:56   French what do you mean he's French [TS]

00:07:58   that's all you need to know it drinks [TS]

00:07:59   wine he likes cheese i'm not entirely [TS]

00:08:01   sure what Aaron Eckhart's scientists [TS]

00:08:04   name is called so i'm just going to call [TS]

00:08:05   them sexy good scientists like just [TS]

00:08:07   calling Aaron Eckhart is josh is josh [TS]

00:08:09   the scientists use our scientists pal [TS]

00:08:10   okay well but there's a lot of other [TS]

00:08:12   scientists oh it's you know [TS]

00:08:14   yeah but he's our scientists pal yeah [TS]

00:08:15   well he's yeah scientists power works [TS]

00:08:17   for me he is the palace i did i did [TS]

00:08:19   enjoy the line so when glenmore shower [TS]

00:08:20   comes to take him away i did enjoy the [TS]

00:08:23   have a security clearance [TS]

00:08:25   I haven't yet i like I I don't know how [TS]

00:08:28   you get security clearance without [TS]

00:08:30   knowing about it I feel like that is a [TS]

00:08:33   challenge [TS]

00:08:33   he's a scientist answer we scatter [TS]

00:08:35   brained he did he forget he had it or do [TS]

00:08:37   they just like give it to him [TS]

00:08:39   it totally assigned to you that is not [TS]

00:08:40   the stupidest thing in this movie that [TS]

00:08:42   this military plays fast and loose with [TS]

00:08:45   everything giving security clearances [TS]

00:08:46   people they haven't met bringing a bunch [TS]

00:08:48   of signs onto a base and letting the [TS]

00:08:49   wall [TS]

00:08:49   into the room with dead bodies for [TS]

00:08:51   dramatic effect also creepy one of the [TS]

00:08:54   nicer creepier moments in the movie [TS]

00:08:55   although I felt like they were walking [TS]

00:08:57   so they're taken to I guess back to [TS]

00:08:59   Boston are they [TS]

00:09:01   but it's never it's really unclear they [TS]

00:09:03   have been watching you i see at some [TS]

00:09:05   point and then they seem to be in Boston [TS]

00:09:06   because that's where the dead bodies are [TS]

00:09:07   but they're walking and they walk it is [TS]

00:09:09   creepy when they discovered that it's a [TS]

00:09:11   room full of dead bodies but they're [TS]

00:09:12   walking it for a long time before they [TS]

00:09:14   notice that there are tables with body [TS]

00:09:17   bags all over they can only see what the [TS]

00:09:19   camera sees and also like why is that [TS]

00:09:21   you if you're a military institution and [TS]

00:09:23   you bring people onto the base you said [TS]

00:09:25   let's let's arrange for things you know [TS]

00:09:27   the fader styles of funnel them so they [TS]

00:09:29   enter the room with the dead bodies for [TS]

00:09:30   dramatic if I say to that is I said it [TS]

00:09:33   was more like punked [TS]

00:09:34   yeah i mean that is the definition of [TS]

00:09:36   where you should give a trigger warning [TS]

00:09:37   is when we're going to send you into a [TS]

00:09:39   room that's literally just stacked with [TS]

00:09:40   corpses and while you're chatting the [TS]

00:09:42   guy whose job it is in the army to [TS]

00:09:44   disclose what they're about to see how [TS]

00:09:47   the pacemaker so he died [TS]

00:09:49   yeah also also I why I'm just the could [TS]

00:09:52   be convenient to the fact that like his [TS]

00:09:53   best friend is a high weapon scientist I [TS]

00:09:57   don't know where they met or like we do [TS]

00:09:58   they just hang out like science club is [TS]

00:10:00   that is that also i just know each other [TS]

00:10:02   yes I'll sign all the good scientists [TS]

00:10:03   you know not the battery intense [TS]

00:10:05   apparently the military has no scientist [TS]

00:10:07   whatsoever because they needed to bring [TS]

00:10:09   these guys in special then they needed [TS]

00:10:12   to talk to them for 30 seconds and then [TS]

00:10:14   they decided yeah we flew all the way [TS]

00:10:16   out here for good [TS]

00:10:17   30 second conversation and the guy says [TS]

00:10:19   alright not a weapon i'm satisfied [TS]

00:10:20   you're free to go that we should have [TS]

00:10:22   considered email or maybe a phone call [TS]

00:10:24   yeah would have been like hey you think [TS]

00:10:25   this could be a weapon no ok done to be [TS]

00:10:27   fair the military does have a scientist [TS]

00:10:29   that's who the bad scientist that we're [TS]

00:10:31   about to be introduced but you're right [TS]

00:10:33   he does they go a long way for a moment [TS]

00:10:35   where essentially what Dan did which no [TS]

00:10:37   no offense Dan that was really really [TS]

00:10:39   good leg work I mean I've seen movies [TS]

00:10:41   before Jason maybe if they move for [TS]

00:10:44   their be on board with this was a world [TS]

00:10:45   without movies but meanwhile we can't we [TS]

00:10:48   can't wait any longer [TS]

00:10:49   you're dismissed it's not a it's not a [TS]

00:10:51   net matter of national security so far [TS]

00:10:53   as we know [TS]

00:10:54   meanwhile in London is that what that's [TS]

00:10:57   supposed to be there are intended auger [TS]

00:10:59   square there are heard I mean it's a [TS]

00:11:01   disaster movie except for [TS]

00:11:03   Boston vancouver everything else is a [TS]

00:11:05   place you're supposed to recognize [TS]

00:11:06   thereby thought it was supposed to be [TS]

00:11:07   Rome I couldn't have rolled his later [TS]

00:11:09   later later that is Rome when they melt [TS]

00:11:12   when they melt the the the Coliseum but [TS]

00:11:14   I'll explode but here but here there in [TS]

00:11:18   baranagar square where there are lots of [TS]

00:11:20   birds and and then there's crazy bird [TS]

00:11:23   action happens [TS]

00:11:24   birds are flying birds or breaking [TS]

00:11:26   windows because something has happened [TS]

00:11:27   that has driven the birds crazy and also [TS]

00:11:29   increase their density to the point that [TS]

00:11:31   they if you've ever seen it i mean all [TS]

00:11:33   of us homeowners know that if you leave [TS]

00:11:35   a window clear without like a stick [TS]

00:11:36   around or something a bird will smash [TS]

00:11:38   through it right through and just [TS]

00:11:40   explode your window seeing seriously but [TS]

00:11:43   it's basically comedy it's like okay not [TS]

00:11:45   like it's supposed to be it's supposed [TS]

00:11:47   to be all know these birds but it how [TS]

00:11:49   can you not laugh at this how does it [TS]

00:11:51   not play like comedy like I'm just [TS]

00:11:52   saying I'm glad someone finally had the [TS]

00:11:54   gall to remake the bird the parents in [TS]

00:11:57   five minutes of the call five minutes a [TS]

00:11:59   to turn that you didn't need the hour [TS]

00:12:00   and a half or whatever it's being filmed [TS]

00:12:03   by camcorder then someone drops the [TS]

00:12:04   camcorder and the camera shows with the [TS]

00:12:06   camcorder is recording it's like what [TS]

00:12:08   that was supposed to be like like [TS]

00:12:09   touching like alas they left here but [TS]

00:12:12   it's just not it's ok so my favorite [TS]

00:12:14   part about that is the fact that they [TS]

00:12:15   establish later on when they're like [TS]

00:12:16   Harper's navigate with magnetism which i [TS]

00:12:19   had actually also remembered from a [TS]

00:12:20   radio lab I heard a few weeks ago but [TS]

00:12:24   they also a camcorder which in that age [TS]

00:12:27   is probably using magnetic tape does not [TS]

00:12:29   seem to suffer any sort of effects from [TS]

00:12:31   some sort of magnetic from the table [TS]

00:12:33   magnetic stuff is very inconsistent for [TS]

00:12:35   example people people with pacemakers [TS]

00:12:37   drop-dead nothing else bad happens words [TS]

00:12:40   go crazy [TS]

00:12:41   nothing else bad happens all that little [TS]

00:12:42   baby cries that's for narrow spectrum [TS]

00:12:44   there a spectrum electromagnetic field [TS]

00:12:46   interview with that there's that one [TS]

00:12:48   bird a points to it first was dead and [TS]

00:12:50   it's like that bird a pacemaker it's on [TS]

00:12:52   the bird where many lames guys don't [TS]

00:12:55   don't make me lecture you on birds [TS]

00:12:56   science I'm ready okay not only to the [TS]

00:12:58   birds have this super like the density [TS]

00:13:00   of lead so they can smash through [TS]

00:13:02   windows instead of just you know [TS]

00:13:03   whacking them but also there's a great [TS]

00:13:05   scene where there's the double-decker [TS]

00:13:07   bus driver who might as well just have [TS]

00:13:09   that the big beefeater hat and go I [TS]

00:13:11   governor because he's just like a [TS]

00:13:13   special guest appearance by john cleese [TS]

00:13:15   and it was still not British [TS]

00:13:16   enough to to sell John on it John that [TS]

00:13:19   was roaming yeah in fact i think i was [TS]

00:13:22   just misremembering the movie because ok [TS]

00:13:24   whatever is left my head since I saw two [TS]

00:13:25   days ago I just love the double take he [TS]

00:13:27   does because there's there's a moment [TS]

00:13:29   like what birds and then everything goes [TS]

00:13:32   badly for the double-decker bus because [TS]

00:13:34   the revivers right by Brian child though [TS]

00:13:36   because he's landing one day after [TS]

00:13:38   happens they just show the child's face [TS]

00:13:40   and like not only has all this disaster [TS]

00:13:42   taking place but a child is upset [TS]

00:13:44   don't forget the London cabbie who a [TS]

00:13:45   bird-like dives through the windshield [TS]

00:13:47   light sweet side buttocks the Kamikaze [TS]

00:13:50   brood yeah those windshield on those [TS]

00:13:52   cars must be made a you know I'm telling [TS]

00:13:54   John that glorious damage your magnetism [TS]

00:13:56   weekend the glass in the fogger square [TS]

00:13:59   area clearly pardon the birds weekend [TS]

00:14:00   the glass good news though it wasn't a [TS]

00:14:02   weapon [TS]

00:14:03   no no we say it's not that there's no [TS]

00:14:05   property includes not even in America if [TS]

00:14:07   you want to make information about [TS]

00:14:08   national security talk to some dude [TS]

00:14:10   never met 45 seconds he has a ph.d [TS]

00:14:12   what more do you need and and bleach [TS]

00:14:14   blonde you know it's my care and it's in [TS]

00:14:16   that one such as me that just means he's [TS]

00:14:19   kool good that the internet is used [TS]

00:14:22   really well in this movie about it we'll [TS]

00:14:23   have more on that later but i like the [TS]

00:14:26   moment here where there's the basic web [TS]

00:14:28   search literacy which nothing basically [TS]

00:14:30   they instruct do a web search for weird [TS]

00:14:33   things involving animals and I'm [TS]

00:14:35   thinking to myself you've just described [TS]

00:14:36   everything that's on the internet i [TS]

00:14:38   think the most unbelievable part of this [TS]

00:14:39   is that he has to bribe his graduate [TS]

00:14:41   students to do what he wants graduate [TS]

00:14:43   students do whatever you tell them your [TS]

00:14:44   PhD students like it i'll sign off on [TS]

00:14:47   your dissertation is no question not a [TS]

00:14:48   they always do what you tell them to do [TS]

00:14:50   you don't need to promise them anything [TS]

00:14:52   that's their relationship yet somehow [TS]

00:14:54   feels like oh what you want his web [TS]

00:14:56   search for me I like the fact like a [TS]

00:14:58   jason said the via web searches like oh [TS]

00:15:00   did sir I found this cycle BuzzFeed it's [TS]

00:15:03   really seems to have everything will be [TS]

00:15:05   actually it's about weird things [TS]

00:15:06   involving animals I I have a note on the [TS]

00:15:08   paint the Penguins in the pigeon seen [TS]

00:15:10   the machine is when I first notice how [TS]

00:15:12   terrible the score is for this movie [TS]

00:15:14   community with James Horner and I feel [TS]

00:15:16   bad in retrospect because James are [TS]

00:15:18   actually writes decent music but this [TS]

00:15:20   guy's someone clearly trying to be James [TS]

00:15:22   Horner and it's kind of hilarious [TS]

00:15:24   I thought someone bought a CD of like [TS]

00:15:25   and movie soundtrack like dramatic scary [TS]

00:15:28   scene and like just [TS]

00:15:30   all its to its super bad like i don't i [TS]

00:15:32   don't know he said he's a horror movie [TS]

00:15:35   he's most last most violent Perry score [TS]

00:15:39   yeah it is very generic well we have [TS]

00:15:41   things involving animals and little I [TS]

00:15:43   mean the cgi pigeons don't look awful [TS]

00:15:46   those are all CGI pitches and they don't [TS]

00:15:47   love you [TS]

00:15:48   your higher recalibrating your own what [TS]

00:15:50   looks I assumed they were rubber pigeons [TS]

00:15:52   that someone was standing up screen and [TS]

00:15:54   hurling people and you just a tremor bid [TS]

00:15:57   you can't a dividing line on those I [TS]

00:15:59   thought someone was running a pigeon [TS]

00:16:00   screensaver on top of a movie that was [TS]

00:16:02   playing I was able to graduate students [TS]

00:16:05   one of them is a cylon just FYI [TS]

00:16:08   yes yes notice that you gotta watch that [TS]

00:16:10   one yeah when they're using an [TS]

00:16:11   appointment online to do you think God [TS]

00:16:13   to download sailor moon huh and do it [TS]

00:16:16   and then where things involving animals [TS]

00:16:18   yeah at that giant web search which [TS]

00:16:20   takes up is all [TS]

00:16:21   text by the way it's going to max out [TS]

00:16:23   51like that's how the internet works and [TS]

00:16:25   yeah if you're really picky about [TS]

00:16:26   computers you should probably stop [TS]

00:16:28   watching them do it just it just gets [TS]

00:16:31   better [TS]

00:16:31   well there was that one day remember [TS]

00:16:32   when the movie people first learned a [TS]

00:16:34   few words about internet they learned [TS]

00:16:36   firewall and a lot of them learn t1 line [TS]

00:16:38   i don't think they learned anything else [TS]

00:16:40   John I think they've been stuck with [TS]

00:16:41   apple press 25 yorkie you don't you want [TS]

00:16:43   anybody still your firewalls everywhere [TS]

00:16:45   eyes up the space shuttle makes an [TS]

00:16:47   appearance which which lauren pointed [TS]

00:16:50   out it is like it's like it's a period [TS]

00:16:52   piece now hey remember when we had the [TS]

00:16:54   space shuttle and it did lots of [TS]

00:16:55   unlikely things in movies but here the [TS]

00:16:58   space shuttle captain by hilary swank [TS]

00:17:03   fresh from her fresh from her Oscar win [TS]

00:17:06   Oh what was she doing in this movie [TS]

00:17:08   Bruce Greenwood is captaining and Bruce [TS]

00:17:10   well there's the candlelight pilot and [TS]

00:17:12   the copilot doesn't actually pilot [TS]

00:17:14   because the commander commands it and [TS]

00:17:15   and Bruce Greenwood is there and but [TS]

00:17:18   Hilary Swank fresh from winning her [TS]

00:17:20   Oscar this is one of the first role she [TS]

00:17:22   did after that I hope you paid her a lot [TS]

00:17:25   of probably filmed it before she won the [TS]

00:17:28   oscar know it's like three years later [TS]

00:17:30   it's it's like terrible is probably the [TS]

00:17:32   first big deal she made that cash in the [TS]

00:17:35   old cash grab [TS]

00:17:36   I think this might be it I think we may [TS]

00:17:38   be whisking Hillary's Italian house here [TS]

00:17:41   I believe this is the shuttle in [TS]

00:17:43   never which is the same shuttle they [TS]

00:17:45   drove through Los Angeles yeah she [TS]

00:17:47   doesn't well yes [TS]

00:17:48   yeah I hope they took it down in the LA [TS]

00:17:50   River very versatile this one its way [TS]

00:17:52   but I think it's way bigger than the [TS]

00:17:54   scale of that crash actually implies [TS]

00:17:57   like when they crash it in the river [TS]

00:17:59   I've like I don't have you guys seen a [TS]

00:18:01   spatial in person because they're really [TS]

00:18:03   have also seen grease those things are [TS]

00:18:05   pretty big [TS]

00:18:06   yeah I guess that's true I i just have [TS]

00:18:08   only ever been to it in Grand Theft Auto [TS]

00:18:10   so I don't know how big their yes [TS]

00:18:12   yeah that's pretty that scale so this [TS]

00:18:14   part of the movie is supposed to show us [TS]

00:18:15   that Hilary Swank has exceptional skills [TS]

00:18:17   in some area and it's gonna just goes in [TS]

00:18:20   all areas John in fact she's so [TS]

00:18:23   competent I don't know why anyone else [TS]

00:18:24   is in this mission they could have just [TS]

00:18:26   said her she can do everything else but [TS]

00:18:28   she hasn't yet learned what leadership [TS]

00:18:30   means yes [TS]

00:18:31   after that so the computers are trying [TS]

00:18:33   to work out like where is she supposed [TS]

00:18:35   to land she figures it out with a grease [TS]

00:18:36   pencil apparently by I don't know [TS]

00:18:38   looking at a map looking out the window [TS]

00:18:39   and saying flat spot there go there and [TS]

00:18:41   then she has to get that confirmed and [TS]

00:18:43   it's just it i guess they're showing [TS]

00:18:45   he's like a supernap and shit magnets in [TS]

00:18:47   her head like a pigeon she's a good [TS]

00:18:48   navigator [TS]

00:18:49   no she doesn't that's why she don't get [TS]

00:18:50   that out the window yeah that would be [TS]

00:18:53   no good the movie will be launched in [TS]

00:18:54   order just know she is she is she she's [TS]

00:18:58   a you know she's a woman in the [TS]

00:18:59   passenger seat and there's a man next to [TS]

00:19:01   her doesn't want to listen ask for [TS]

00:19:02   directions and she knows where to go [TS]

00:19:04   she's willing to think the other thing [TS]

00:19:05   in my right and i'm sorry i've i've [TS]

00:19:08   fallen into just as bad stand-up comedy [TS]

00:19:11   now that is sort of what this joke is [TS]

00:19:13   right it's just like but I know but I [TS]

00:19:14   know NASA will no one at NASA listen to [TS]

00:19:17   me i have a map right here [TS]

00:19:19   hey bruce bruce greenwood has Captain [TS]

00:19:22   starships ok you knows what's true [TS]

00:19:25   let's just remember this is the only [TS]

00:19:26   character that attempts to have an arc [TS]

00:19:28   so are they uh of course they're in [TS]

00:19:32   downtown Los Angeles because of the [TS]

00:19:33   magnetism they fly over Dodger Stadium [TS]

00:19:35   there's a moment where i can see that [TS]

00:19:37   Dodger Stadium in the background i think [TS]

00:19:38   a dodger stadium and then of course [TS]

00:19:40   immediately cut to Dodger Stadium [TS]

00:19:42   bye-bye Dodger fouled a ball off the the [TS]

00:19:45   spatial comes over like right over the [TS]

00:19:47   top of the stadium like three feet oh [TS]

00:19:49   but it's still got many minutes before [TS]

00:19:51   will actually need to land so that's [TS]

00:19:53   nice [TS]

00:19:54   I caught up but they land in the LA [TS]

00:19:56   River you may know it from various video [TS]

00:19:59   games and you know Terminator 2 when [TS]

00:20:02   many other many other things from the LA [TS]

00:20:05   River yeah sure [TS]

00:20:07   la rivers in everything and they land [TS]

00:20:10   they landed and there's like there's a [TS]

00:20:12   guy who's listening [TS]

00:20:13   who's like welding things wearing [TS]

00:20:15   headphones and he almost was crushed by [TS]

00:20:16   the space shuttle but in the end he [TS]

00:20:18   spared [TS]

00:20:20   I like how there's that there's a I ate [TS]

00:20:22   a section of the movie where they want [TS]

00:20:24   you to think that the people who piloted [TS]

00:20:25   this thing are in trouble like somehow [TS]

00:20:26   this is their fault like you drove the [TS]

00:20:28   spatial to the wrong place and it's your [TS]

00:20:31   fault this expensive piece of machinery [TS]

00:20:32   your career is over rear is over they [TS]

00:20:35   would be heroes for successfully landing [TS]

00:20:37   here on medicine [TS]

00:20:39   yeah exactly the guy on the planet knows [TS]

00:20:41   that you flew into birds you stupid i [TS]

00:20:45   encourage you see the birds [TS]

00:20:47   I don't understand what you the planet [TS]

00:20:48   is pretty big place but you know just [TS]

00:20:50   look down and land on the runway that [TS]

00:20:51   space shuttle [TS]

00:20:52   let's take a break so i can tell you [TS]

00:20:54   about our good friends at Harry's you've [TS]

00:20:57   heard me talk about Harry's before it's [TS]

00:21:00   all about shaving for many people [TS]

00:21:01   shaving is a pain it's uncomfortable [TS]

00:21:03   causes Nicks and cuts and scrapes and [TS]

00:21:05   razor burn shopping for razor blades is [TS]

00:21:08   awful the blades are really expensive if [TS]

00:21:10   they're even in stock behind that locked [TS]

00:21:13   case at the drugstore so Harry's was [TS]

00:21:16   started by two guys who wanted a better [TS]

00:21:18   product and they didn't want to pay an [TS]

00:21:20   arm and a leg to get it and make their [TS]

00:21:22   own blades they bought the factory in [TS]

00:21:24   Germany where the blades are made and [TS]

00:21:26   that means that you're giving factory [TS]

00:21:28   direct pricing because you're buying [TS]

00:21:29   from the people who own the factory it's [TS]

00:21:32   a better shave and it respects your face [TS]

00:21:34   and your wallet these are high-quality [TS]

00:21:36   blades and the ship for free to your [TS]

00:21:39   front doorstep at about half the cost of [TS]

00:21:41   the other big branded blades a great [TS]

00:21:43   starter set that they offer $15 get your [TS]

00:21:46   razor moisturizing shape cream and three [TS]

00:21:48   razor blades wipe a $32 for a pack of [TS]

00:21:52   blades when it's half the price at [TS]

00:21:54   Harry's i've been using Harry's blades [TS]

00:21:56   for a while I love their shape cream [TS]

00:21:58   that light mint smell I use it every day [TS]

00:22:01   well I don't go to an office anymore so [TS]

00:22:04   sometimes it's every other day and [TS]

00:22:06   actually one of the nice things about [TS]

00:22:07   hair [TS]

00:22:08   places you can figure out how often you [TS]

00:22:10   need a refill [TS]

00:22:11   like I do since I don't shave every day [TS]

00:22:12   anymore i can cut back and like every [TS]

00:22:15   month or two I get a new order through [TS]

00:22:17   Harry's i love the shape cream they've [TS]

00:22:19   also got a a foaming shave gel if you [TS]

00:22:22   prefer that and I really like the blade [TS]

00:22:25   it the the handle is a really high [TS]

00:22:27   quality metal handle and then the blades [TS]

00:22:29   are fantastic they're not kidding when [TS]

00:22:32   they say that they are their [TS]

00:22:34   high-quality I understand why they [TS]

00:22:35   bought the factory so you too can [TS]

00:22:38   experience this clean close comfortable [TS]

00:22:41   shave and smell that nice mint shaving [TS]

00:23:12   we make some bad choices I mean isn't [TS]

00:23:14   all of the Transformers movies I think [TS]

00:23:17   he's better in the Transformers movies I [TS]

00:23:18   haven't seen those seats 10 their eyes [TS]

00:23:21   in my house somewhere [TS]

00:23:22   I'm just saying that the man's a [TS]

00:23:24   professional ok that's all I'm saying [TS]

00:23:26   yep i wish he did his like hammy [TS]

00:23:27   transformers performance here he's so [TS]

00:23:29   subdued and like you've got more than [TS]

00:23:31   that really that whole scene where he [TS]

00:23:33   likes starts foaming from the mouth [TS]

00:23:34   later on and what is a little bit of it [TS]

00:23:36   but I don't think he plays like the feet [TS]

00:23:39   intellectual arrogant guy as well as he [TS]

00:23:41   plays the crazy angry person but there's [TS]

00:23:43   a top-secret binder guys that's the most [TS]

00:23:45   important part [TS]

00:23:47   there's a binder and it says top-secret [TS]

00:23:49   will see it later too because nothing [TS]

00:23:51   keeps a binder the contents of binder [TS]

00:23:52   more secret than the big sticker on the [TS]

00:23:54   front that says secret [TS]

00:23:56   well it's just like when the military [TS]

00:23:57   guy tells the people and just so you [TS]

00:23:58   guys know everything here is all totally [TS]

00:24:00   classic is totally classified they're [TS]

00:24:02   like oh yeah totally got a spot right [TS]

00:24:04   that's pretty much how security goes [TS]

00:24:05   military will not be more classified [TS]

00:24:07   guys someone reminds you oh and by the [TS]

00:24:09   way everything I just told you totally [TS]

00:24:11   class but yeah check thumbs up dude [TS]

00:24:13   that's how national security works [TS]

00:24:15   yep only as the Northern Lights happened [TS]

00:24:18   in Washington Redskins your organisation [TS]

00:24:20   was out there [TS]

00:24:21   lights the Aurora appears over [TS]

00:24:22   Washington the FBI reappears and says [TS]

00:24:26   now we need you to come to the Pentagon [TS]

00:24:27   I'm and and stanley tucci is there and [TS]

00:24:30   they have there's there's a little [TS]

00:24:32   sparring between stanley tucci and aaron [TS]

00:24:34   eckhart about like science science about [TS]

00:24:38   sciency things and all that and a a a [TS]

00:24:41   peach ends and some air freshener is [TS]

00:24:44   required to explain the core of the [TS]

00:24:45   earth stop spinning i do enjoy the two [TS]

00:24:47   of them working together to flame [TS]

00:24:49   through a peach plum they were even [TS]

00:24:51   explaining any of the cat the concepts [TS]

00:24:53   involving the problem they were just [TS]

00:24:54   like suffice it to say there's a problem [TS]

00:24:56   the result of that problem is burning [TS]

00:24:57   you guys know burning is wait hang on [TS]

00:24:59   let me demonstrate this it is it isn't [TS]

00:25:01   really for dramatic effect and not for [TS]

00:25:03   science effect [TS]

00:25:04   I mean he is a likely use of the the [TS]

00:25:06   peaches like this is the representation [TS]

00:25:08   of the earthquake that kind of makes [TS]

00:25:09   sense but I don't know this whole part [TS]

00:25:11   is a little ridiculous because you know [TS]

00:25:12   if anything a giant military [TS]

00:25:15   organization what's like PowerPoint [TS]

00:25:16   slides and you know lengthy text [TS]

00:25:18   documents they don't want and then know [TS]

00:25:20   how but your science [TS]

00:25:21   yeah they're they're pretty up on [TS]

00:25:22   burning it could have been a lot more [TS]

00:25:24   spectacular thank god aaron eckhart [TS]

00:25:25   forgot to pack his trumpet okay yeah [TS]

00:25:27   yeah I'm now going to play my trumpet of [TS]

00:25:29   the speech trust me it will then drive [TS]

00:25:32   it again i like using the peach to [TS]

00:25:34   explain how the earth like has a core i [TS]

00:25:36   think that was actually for people who [TS]

00:25:37   don't know what corn that is that is an [TS]

00:25:39   educational element of it in terms of [TS]

00:25:41   also you know the beach is actually [TS]

00:25:42   pretty representative in terms of you [TS]

00:25:44   know the skin of the peach being [TS]

00:25:45   relative to the crust of the earth but [TS]

00:25:47   he calls to the Congressional pages or [TS]

00:25:48   the FBI enter into whatever fruit for a [TS]

00:25:50   can of renews it or something right and [TS]

00:25:52   I i keep thinking like okay he's gonna [TS]

00:25:54   get the lemon blade and he's gonna spray [TS]

00:25:56   it and it's gonna be one of the things [TS]

00:25:57   like well this is the solar wind but [TS]

00:25:59   looks well look what happens it gets [TS]

00:26:00   covered in this and move into goo and [TS]

00:26:02   all that you know that at some point in [TS]

00:26:03   the middle of it I think he's like Oh [TS]

00:26:04   screw it let's just set this thing on [TS]

00:26:06   fire maybe that'll get their attention [TS]

00:26:08   because in a year we will be this [TS]

00:26:11   flaming peach we will be peach flambĂ© I [TS]

00:26:14   i like that scene because i don't know i [TS]

00:26:16   think it's silly as a funny ad hoc [TS]

00:26:18   science mo but you know what ruins it [TS]

00:26:19   for me when he drops the peach into the [TS]

00:26:22   glass of water it is clearly not a peach [TS]

00:26:24   really gotta have some charcoal problem [TS]

00:26:27   and then I went and read and they for [TS]

00:26:29   some reason in a movie where no expense [TS]

00:26:31   is spared they could not find a good [TS]

00:26:33   peach [TS]

00:26:34   so they took a nap and painted to look [TS]

00:26:37   like a beach and it kinda looks okay [TS]

00:26:40   most of the scene but not in a hold of [TS]

00:26:42   it the Apple lobby has its fingers all [TS]

00:26:44   over this movie first the sign now [TS]

00:26:45   that's a man how much how much time and [TS]

00:26:47   energy did something like propensities [TS]

00:26:49   been like maybe an apple to look like a [TS]

00:26:52   peach instead of displaying a peach and [TS]

00:26:54   I think that that is a metaphor for this [TS]

00:26:56   movie so when someone ate all the [TS]

00:26:58   peaches [TS]

00:26:58   how much time do they spend making Aaron [TS]

00:27:00   Eckhart's hair looks so carelessly that [TS]

00:27:04   is their only chance of an Oscar that is [TS]

00:27:06   just that's how that's how Aaron Eckhart [TS]

00:27:07   comes out-of-the-box everything else [TS]

00:27:09   have did you hire anyone get that that's [TS]

00:27:11   yeah everything else with aftermarket [TS]

00:27:12   that's that's default yeah so that the [TS]

00:27:15   scene has the line that everyone made [TS]

00:27:17   fun over there appeared in various [TS]

00:27:18   videos like you know the person saying [TS]

00:27:21   we just can't get there in the end he [TS]

00:27:23   says yes but what if we could [TS]

00:27:26   yeah uh we can't [TS]

00:27:29   ah but what if we could no no no I here [TS]

00:27:33   we had a couple we can't actually do [TS]

00:27:34   that but what if we could also like how [TS]

00:27:36   they describe what will happen when the [TS]

00:27:38   course is shutting down whether they're [TS]

00:27:40   basically like a plane will fall from [TS]

00:27:42   the sky okay well we've got other planes [TS]

00:27:44   will be super storms everywhere right [TS]

00:27:46   well not scaring me and hopefully all of [TS]

00:27:49   your a borealis we visible everywhere [TS]

00:27:51   that sounds kinda pretty actually I [TS]

00:27:53   really ok with that are so I'm cut two [TS]

00:27:57   were in the desert out need another [TS]

00:28:00   scientist and we meet Delroy Lindo he is [TS]

00:28:03   a man with a plan [TS]

00:28:04   yeah amazing little character actor has [TS]

00:28:07   apparently unlimited funds he has a [TS]

00:28:08   laser drill he has a magical he works [TS]

00:28:10   for the government and he's obviously [TS]

00:28:11   this is a boondoggle that's been going [TS]

00:28:13   on for a long time [TS]

00:28:14   he's a laser drill is a magic box that [TS]

00:28:16   has a mouse in it didn't you shoot the [TS]

00:28:18   box with the laser and the mouse is fine [TS]

00:28:20   and since the abyss they've been legally [TS]

00:28:22   required that science demonstration see [TS]

00:28:24   including mouse [TS]

00:28:25   yeah that's a nice thought I thought [TS]

00:28:26   I'll contractual I hope there's like [TS]

00:28:28   hyper oxygenated fluid inside that box [TS]

00:28:30   the mouse can breathe it [TS]

00:28:32   do you know how many mice they killed [TS]

00:28:33   filling that up I mean they'll be dead [TS]

00:28:35   by now and moving very very dark [TS]

00:28:38   don't let her eyes unless one of them [TS]

00:28:40   got into a longevity experiment with [TS]

00:28:42   like calorie restriction but you call [TS]

00:28:43   that living room [TS]

00:28:44   there's but there's that scene where [TS]

00:28:46   they like I i have i put this mouse in a [TS]

00:28:47   box and a fire laser out-of-the-box is [TS]

00:28:49   fine limp sitting there thinking well [TS]

00:28:50   the applications for this technology or [TS]

00:28:52   non-existence thanks Delroy Lindo knows [TS]

00:28:55   you may have exactly one application [TS]

00:28:57   chasing to build a ship ever did was lie [TS]

00:29:00   anymore [TS]

00:29:01   unobtainium that's like the best part [TS]

00:29:03   about this movement at least they made [TS]

00:29:05   it as a joke at least they're like you [TS]

00:29:07   know like he says it as a joke it's not [TS]

00:29:09   like your avatar where it said seriously [TS]

00:29:11   yeah oh yeah that's ridiculous [TS]

00:29:14   now we meet our hacker friend Oh DJ [TS]

00:29:18   Qualls good rat Finch actually better [TS]

00:29:22   hacker named take but noche [TS]

00:29:25   damn he got in on the ground floor his [TS]

00:29:26   handle is rat it's not like that like 19 [TS]

00:29:28   and you not learn for ratatat accused [TS]

00:29:31   yeah I don't know whether or not it [TS]

00:29:33   ground floor that's that's how good a [TS]

00:29:34   hacker here for years before Twitter [TS]

00:29:36   launched he was there [TS]

00:29:37   yeah he's not rat spelled with a for I [TS]

00:29:39   mean he's doing great and he's when we [TS]

00:29:42   first see him he's purging the memory [TS]

00:29:44   core huh core mm he's nothing floppy [TS]

00:29:48   disks down the sink [TS]

00:29:50   we see my daughter might weigh something [TS]

00:29:52   he's going to Magnus he's got magnets [TS]

00:29:56   he's doing some night you guys have [TS]

00:29:57   magnets but the floppy disks his best [TS]

00:29:59   bet is let me try to shove these down [TS]

00:30:00   the drain all of them by the way are [TS]

00:30:02   larger than the diameter of the Dragon [TS]

00:30:04   soon as a garbage disposal it's the [TS]

00:30:05   garbage disposal we could meet back up [TS]

00:30:07   John the first problem is that he's a [TS]

00:30:09   hacker with floppy disks and there are [TS]

00:30:10   magnets on the garbage disposal [TS]

00:30:12   there's nothing there's nothing worth [TS]

00:30:14   having on floppy disks even in 2003 [TS]

00:30:15   maybe he has like some shareware he [TS]

00:30:17   hasn't paid for and maybe those were all [TS]

00:30:20   like leftover AOL discs i don't know but [TS]

00:30:23   i don't think a single one fits in the [TS]

00:30:24   drain like that scene is not very long [TS]

00:30:26   but like if he's supposed to go through [TS]

00:30:27   the motions doesn't know what they're [TS]

00:30:29   they're not going to fit they simply not [TS]

00:30:31   going to fit them buy rating is a hacker [TS]

00:30:33   not a synthesis maybe he's like a misfit [TS]

00:30:36   look who's being raided by the FBI [TS]

00:30:38   he's just about to CDs into a microwave [TS]

00:30:40   he doesn't know anybody he has ten guys [TS]

00:30:42   with guns busted and he tells them these [TS]

00:30:44   are not computers he is not a master at [TS]

00:30:47   well you know how many languages do you [TS]

00:30:50   speak I speak at 1 10 100 the way that [TS]

00:30:54   sounds like minor readers do threatening [TS]

00:30:57   so threat [TS]

00:30:58   on that culminates in him making the [TS]

00:31:00   2600 talking to herself hard on a [TS]

00:31:03   digital fun with like aluminum foil [TS]

00:31:06   I know yeah you know yeah your long [TS]

00:31:08   distance forever the almost plausibility [TS]

00:31:11   of like you got so close to something [TS]

00:31:13   that is actually a real story about all [TS]

00:31:15   around for decades but yeah so close [TS]

00:31:18   though [TS]

00:31:18   yeah you know it's true that waits for [TS]

00:31:20   proximity i do not have a great deal of [TS]

00:31:22   respect for our hacker friend through [TS]

00:31:25   the how many languages do you speak [TS]

00:31:26   through the line you want me to hack the [TS]

00:31:30   planet and the fact that he demands inna [TS]

00:31:33   tapes and a bunch of hot pockets [TS]

00:31:35   dude don't lindo got like a billion [TS]

00:31:37   dollars to build the like laser mouse [TS]

00:31:39   box aspire higher it is really unclear [TS]

00:31:43   why they need this guy around have to [TS]

00:31:47   control the flow of information I felt [TS]

00:31:49   like they just needed to have a hacker [TS]

00:31:51   in the movie like I don't understand [TS]

00:31:53   he's in the command center later [TS]

00:31:55   yeah it's like couldn't you could you [TS]

00:31:56   outsource this like why why why is he in [TS]

00:31:59   the same room like dinner if everybody [TS]

00:32:01   else is like they're serious desks and [TS]

00:32:02   he's got all his little toys and other [TS]

00:32:04   it's like you think it's safe to have [TS]

00:32:06   the world's best hacker hanging out in [TS]

00:32:07   the room of das fine he's playing [TS]

00:32:09   partner feels my song kind of relate [TS]

00:32:11   addition we're like your movie doesn't [TS]

00:32:13   have enough young people in it you know [TS]

00:32:15   all that old astronaut is not pulling in [TS]

00:32:17   the demography interacting who is this [TS]

00:32:19   is accurate remove a young teenage girls [TS]

00:32:21   maybe I believe he I think TJ calls was [TS]

00:32:24   actually in a bunch of dumb like teenage [TS]

00:32:26   companies so I think he can keys in it [TS]

00:32:28   he is their lowest bid attempt to get [TS]

00:32:30   your day is going to give him all the [TS]

00:32:33   funny lines await me yeah I speak one so [TS]

00:32:37   Hilary Swank gets to fly a new mission [TS]

00:32:39   they decided not to blame her for the [TS]

00:32:41   your score stopping and and and her [TS]

00:32:43   having to land in the LA River yeah and [TS]

00:32:47   there's a little aside here with [TS]

00:32:49   planting a seed for a plot development [TS]

00:32:50   later on which is that this that destiny [TS]

00:32:53   we hear about and it might be something [TS]

00:32:55   important that Stan Kroenke is not going [TS]

00:32:58   to come up again I'm sure she's a [TS]

00:32:59   perfectly aboveboard scientists and [TS]

00:33:01   destiny is like I don't know like some [TS]

00:33:05   nice experiment where he's going to make [TS]

00:33:07   gorillas talk or something [TS]

00:33:08   I'm sure that he was just programming [TS]

00:33:10   that bungee game years [TS]

00:33:11   for it came out yeah i was disappointed [TS]

00:33:13   when i find that wasn't spelled the same [TS]

00:33:14   way [TS]

00:33:14   yeah he is very important because later [TS]

00:33:17   on he needs to spell it out for [TS]

00:33:18   everybody exactly what it means [TS]

00:33:20   it said we're never gonna get the [TS]

00:33:21   follow-up project destiny's child who [TS]

00:33:25   wow yeah you think this movie is bad i [TS]

00:33:28   do everything I do [TS]

00:33:29   unlike you apparently I you know I i [TS]

00:33:33   love this movie for what it is i was [TS]

00:33:35   gonna say he really like spelling things [TS]

00:33:37   because then he explains the concept of [TS]

00:33:38   mad [TS]

00:33:39   yeah i mean this was far enough after [TS]

00:33:40   the call board that you could have to [TS]

00:33:42   explain that I guess you have to spell [TS]

00:33:44   it do [TS]

00:33:45   yeah well people don't know that it [TS]

00:33:46   might be spelled in a strange like with [TS]

00:33:47   a lot or something [TS]

00:33:49   yeah i mean let's be clear he is not [TS]

00:33:50   spelling it for the other scientists the [TS]

00:33:53   character is standing in the room with [TS]

00:33:54   his spelling it for the audience that is [TS]

00:33:57   you know presumably a mildly altered [TS]

00:33:58   state watching at this point the [TS]

00:34:02   soundtrack is normally where you go to [TS]

00:34:06   put the screenplay itself is all that's [TS]

00:34:07   required to get you out of your right [TS]

00:34:09   mind let me outline our plan and then we [TS]

00:34:13   get a montage now unfortunately it's not [TS]

00:34:15   an eighties musical montage it's more of [TS]

00:34:16   a narrated montage we get a voiceover [TS]

00:34:19   mhm morning we have voiceover we have [TS]

00:34:22   disinterested voiceover we're going to [TS]

00:34:23   build a laser mouse box ship and fly it [TS]

00:34:28   except not in the area we're gonna fly [TS]

00:34:31   it downward into the core and we're [TS]

00:34:33   gonna blow some stuff up and it's gonna [TS]

00:34:34   solve everything [TS]

00:34:35   yeah if we if we did that made about [TS]

00:34:38   this or anything a bomb can't do it can [TS]

00:34:40   destroy asteroid it's been our the [TS]

00:34:41   course car like if you're having [TS]

00:34:43   relationship problems we can get right [TS]

00:34:46   shipping magnate a nuclear bomb you [TS]

00:34:47   can't let can teach other people to love [TS]

00:34:49   Tony uh is that improvement anything [TS]

00:34:53   that's an open door they should have had [TS]

00:34:55   the the nuclear weapon open-front [TS]

00:34:57   characters in movies that we say I'm not [TS]

00:34:59   a good mom [TS]

00:35:01   yeah there you you're suggesting a [TS]

00:35:03   sequel to the court where the bombs have [TS]

00:35:05   like personalities and chat and funny [TS]

00:35:06   roadways get the leads to run for their [TS]

00:35:08   money I feel like no portal turrets okay [TS]

00:35:11   yeah it's nice that everybody gets to go [TS]

00:35:13   on this mission like all the scientists [TS]

00:35:15   the guy who made the laser yeah [TS]

00:35:17   everybody except a hacker guy [TS]

00:35:18   yes yeah but this is my kungfu and it is [TS]

00:35:21   strong but let's not repeat it is [TS]

00:35:24   yeah well it's not like it's like to [TS]

00:35:26   talk about kind of food they he thinks [TS]

00:35:28   he's really cool and I think at times I [TS]

00:35:30   think the movie thinks he's really cool [TS]

00:35:32   he is not really cool he's really not [TS]

00:35:34   cool Jason remember 2003 would popular [TS]

00:35:38   culture thinking look like yeah it's [TS]

00:35:41   just I think it's simply a comment i [TS]

00:35:43   think this is no I think this is behind [TS]

00:35:45   the times either even for hat i don't [TS]

00:35:46   know i mean yeah like the sloppiness in [TS]

00:35:48   2003 that just strikes they were off a [TS]

00:35:50   little bit [TS]

00:35:51   this is what eight years after hackers [TS]

00:35:54   came out [TS]

00:35:55   yeah i think i think it should be a [TS]

00:35:57   little more advanced today and and the [TS]

00:35:58   net hackers in the net came out the same [TS]

00:36:00   here [TS]

00:36:01   what a magic hear that so they're [TS]

00:36:03   starting at Marianas Trench I guess [TS]

00:36:05   because they want to go through as [TS]

00:36:07   little or as possible but in the grid is [TS]

00:36:09   not things that's also not geologically [TS]

00:36:12   corrected no no I is that same note [TS]

00:36:14   Russia's sticker there they're saving [TS]

00:36:16   seven miles out of like a 2,000 mile [TS]

00:36:18   trail now so having seven they're out [TS]

00:36:19   there not saving it sticker there sorry [TS]

00:36:21   yeah sorry [TS]

00:36:23   science is that because it like divots [TS]

00:36:25   in basically I mean it's just it's a [TS]

00:36:27   place of the middle of the ocean that [TS]

00:36:29   has a name that you would recognize so [TS]

00:36:30   they even they mislabeled it that the [TS]

00:36:33   like they say that it's in the wrong [TS]

00:36:34   part of the specific don't worry at and [TS]

00:36:37   in exchange for getting this place where [TS]

00:36:39   they think like oh we're going to a big [TS]

00:36:40   hole because that gives us a head start [TS]

00:36:42   the only thing we have to contend with [TS]

00:36:43   is the massive pressure of the ocean [TS]

00:36:45   sitting on top of it as opposed to [TS]

00:36:47   starting in the air [TS]

00:36:48   maybe but don't worry though because [TS]

00:36:49   their ship you know deals with pressure [TS]

00:36:51   just fine also it's a place where it [TS]

00:36:53   they think it'll be a shortcut but also [TS]

00:36:55   there's a risk of earthquakes so it'll [TS]

00:36:57   be extra dangerous [TS]

00:36:58   yeah well see that's the thing about a [TS]

00:37:00   movie if you have a movie where people [TS]

00:37:02   like travel to the Center of the Earth [TS]

00:37:03   three two drills learn where it's just [TS]

00:37:05   nonsense down there right because you [TS]

00:37:07   don't know what it is or your entire [TS]

00:37:09   movie super boring because it's all dark [TS]

00:37:11   and it's all filled with rock and you [TS]

00:37:13   know and I wonder how they were going to [TS]

00:37:14   handle this in this movie because I'm [TS]

00:37:15   like if that's gonna be half of the [TS]

00:37:17   movie where they're just tunneling like [TS]

00:37:18   maybe it'll be like a a locked-room [TS]

00:37:21   mystery will be added to his throat in [TS]

00:37:22   the ship or something like that that's [TS]

00:37:24   that's give this movie a lot of credit [TS]

00:37:25   shoppin but I mean like what are you [TS]

00:37:27   gonna do once they start tunneling like [TS]

00:37:29   there's nothing to see i guess i can [TS]

00:37:30   look at a screening to see how far you [TS]

00:37:31   going to go but the way they handle it [TS]

00:37:33   is guess what the earth is filled with [TS]

00:37:35   mostly what looks like empty space with [TS]

00:37:37   a bunch of [TS]

00:37:37   exploding gonna look like John this is [TS]

00:37:41   not somewhat interesting movie club this [TS]

00:37:43   is bad movie yeah this is to you you big [TS]

00:37:58   till final judgment no wait no that's [TS]

00:38:00   not what we're calling it i mean sorry [TS]

00:38:02   legally just dig final yes that's right [TS]

00:38:04   tilt toward the end of the podcast [TS]

00:39:58   thanks to look great for sponsoring the [TS]

00:40:00   incomparable I either we also missed [TS]

00:40:02   where Rome gets hit by a static [TS]

00:40:05   discharge that melted so that's that's [TS]

00:40:07   later we also you what you did miss with [TS]

00:40:10   their wales and that's very important [TS]

00:40:11   yeah they are surprisingly sprightly [TS]

00:40:14   Wales that's foreshadowing they move a [TS]

00:40:16   dolphin speed i feel like i'm pretty [TS]

00:40:18   sure it'll get smelted before we meet [TS]

00:40:20   the whales now I thought that later it's [TS]

00:40:23   later than the static discharge goes up [TS]

00:40:25   because DJ Qualls is in the light [TS]

00:40:26   control room and it's all like Oh Rome [TS]

00:40:29   looks really bad [TS]

00:40:30   according to my weather forecast where [TS]

00:40:31   it looks partly cloudy [TS]

00:40:33   yeah also the in Rome I don't know I've [TS]

00:40:36   got I've got in my notes here that they [TS]

00:40:38   do this is my country and its strong and [TS]

00:40:40   then we get to see Rome and then and [TS]

00:40:42   then they go to the Marianas Trench [TS]

00:40:43   anyway the wit reason you know it's [TS]

00:40:45   Italy just as a tip is in about two [TS]

00:40:47   seconds there's like espresso machine [TS]

00:40:49   and soccer on the TV and so yeah it's a [TS]

00:40:53   patient just have the Pope walking to go [TS]

00:40:54   it's a me and then we're gonna be [TS]

00:40:57   setting up the Pope the Pope talks just [TS]

00:40:59   like Mario did you not know that that's [TS]

00:41:01   what even even the Pope's from other [TS]

00:41:02   countries when they get in their name [TS]

00:41:04   the Pope they just talk like Mario this [TS]

00:41:06   is a it's a it's a rule anyway lightning [TS]

00:41:08   effects in the in the room scene so bad [TS]

00:41:11   pretty much sharknado level like I was [TS]

00:41:13   that's not the movie the camp in mind [TS]

00:41:15   yeah also please explain to me how [TS]

00:41:17   lightning striking the Coliseum which is [TS]

00:41:20   a not that big likely to be examining [TS]

00:41:24   also made of rock and steel generally [TS]

00:41:27   there is not enough electricity to know [TS]

00:41:30   that was that doesn't make any sense to [TS]

00:41:32   my knowledge as a not real scientist you [TS]

00:41:36   have to put a lot of lecture city into [TS]

00:41:37   rock to make an explosion is it possible [TS]

00:41:40   that electricity is attracted to famous [TS]

00:41:42   monuments because well that's I mean you [TS]

00:41:45   know [TS]

00:41:45   yeah we're not going to blow up anything [TS]

00:41:47   that you don't recognize it isn't it was [TS]

00:41:49   a well-known fact that disasters are [TS]

00:41:51   attracted to well-known well the older [TS]

00:41:52   Iraq building is the more electricity [TS]

00:41:55   builds up in its core now wait a second [TS]

00:41:58   Jason if you play the trumpet near these [TS]

00:41:59   buildings what happens if they would [TS]

00:42:01   explode that's why you place your bet [TS]

00:42:02   you get interrupted [TS]

00:42:03   sample ranks the poor Victor Emmanuel [TS]

00:42:07   monument to also gets blown up here [TS]

00:42:08   which is a yeah with all the horse [TS]

00:42:10   sculptures on and everything very sad [TS]

00:42:12   very sad that the point is that 52 [TS]

00:42:15   minutes into this movie they finally get [TS]

00:42:16   on the ship and they do are visited by [TS]

00:42:18   wales was anyone else concerned that [TS]

00:42:21   those whales probably have cancer from [TS]

00:42:22   happening [TS]

00:42:23   thank you yes I i thought the same thing [TS]

00:42:25   because there's that one scene where [TS]

00:42:27   Hilary Swank tweaks the x-ray thing and [TS]

00:42:29   then a person walks past the acting like [TS]

00:42:31   that person has cancer now you all right [TS]

00:42:33   yeah look look he's not gonna die d [TS]

00:42:35   we're trying to save the earth here go [TS]

00:42:37   through three feet of lead but it's [TS]

00:42:38   harmless don't worry those whales are [TS]

00:42:40   just going to glow in the dark forever [TS]

00:42:41   that's me that way that will be a [TS]

00:42:42   downside is why i also have free long [TS]

00:42:45   distance forever i will also i was [TS]

00:42:50   concerned as they are experiencing the [TS]

00:42:52   dramatic underwater earthquake that's [TS]

00:42:54   totally just here because if we don't [TS]

00:42:55   want them to just take off easily like [TS]

00:42:57   they're just really getting rattled [TS]

00:42:58   around and like they don't they just in [TS]

00:43:00   jumpsuits like they don't have any like [TS]

00:43:02   I felt like they should be wearing hats [TS]

00:43:03   or you know or something I also like the [TS]

00:43:06   scene where bruce greenwood reminds them [TS]

00:43:08   to fasten their seatbelts get my [TS]

00:43:10   question at this point is like why are [TS]

00:43:12   they steering I mean later they tell you [TS]

00:43:13   why they're steering but like you know [TS]

00:43:15   you're going to their scores pretty much [TS]

00:43:17   a straight shot like isn't just down [TS]

00:43:18   like you can we just be going down the [TS]

00:43:20   hallway good gravity gravity really [TS]

00:43:22   helps you out there i have a positional [TS]

00:43:24   question here which is they're going [TS]

00:43:26   straight down right i mean the whole [TS]

00:43:27   movie they're just going straight down [TS]

00:43:29   but they're not they're all over the [TS]

00:43:31   place because they have dodged like yeah [TS]

00:43:32   it's the button on for something it [TS]

00:43:35   seems like the way the ship is laid out [TS]

00:43:36   it's like a ship that's designed to go [TS]

00:43:38   like a ship yeah [TS]

00:43:38   45 degrees straight as opposed to being [TS]

00:43:41   like built on unlike levels where you [TS]

00:43:43   have to climb up because they're going [TS]

00:43:45   down and they're headed straight down in [TS]

00:43:47   the into the ocean to the bottom of the [TS]

00:43:48   ocean and they're all riding it like the [TS]

00:43:50   skimming across Ramos is also tell you [TS]

00:43:52   Jason to insert some more science as you [TS]

00:43:55   get closer to the earth core gravity is [TS]

00:43:57   going to diminish rapidly well that [TS]

00:43:58   night over with it didn't have the [TS]

00:44:00   budget for that [TS]

00:44:00   yeah I mean I would you know yeah that [TS]

00:44:03   would that would it would be cumbersome [TS]

00:44:04   to have all those scenes later on [TS]

00:44:05   ladders you know that the actors don't [TS]

00:44:07   do that but they do make a blocking [TS]

00:44:09   showing you the internal thing that's on [TS]

00:44:11   pivots and they said pivot up to 45 [TS]

00:44:13   degrees it's like if you could have made [TS]

00:44:14   that 90 it would have been a lot more [TS]

00:44:16   comfortable [TS]

00:44:17   the strip straight down you know well we [TS]

00:44:19   made the cabin pivot 45 degrees so if [TS]

00:44:21   you don't tell more than 45 you'll still [TS]

00:44:22   be level with the ground doesn't matter [TS]

00:44:24   it doesn't mean we have to travel twice [TS]

00:44:25   as far to get to the Earth's core don't [TS]

00:44:27   worry about it don't work they also [TS]

00:44:29   didn't design the pods to eject unless [TS]

00:44:31   they were damaged it seems like an [TS]

00:44:33   oversight and and its really lucky that [TS]

00:44:35   they damage they managed to damage them [TS]

00:44:37   in order from back to be honest I [TS]

00:44:38   haven't won in the middle or they will [TS]

00:44:40   real product gets blown off [TS]

00:44:42   I I i did like how the script actually [TS]

00:44:45   does complain about that and Delroy [TS]

00:44:48   Lindo basically says look you made me [TS]

00:44:50   build this damn thing in three months [TS]

00:44:52   yeah i was i I made lots of decisions [TS]

00:44:54   their skills that there's probably an [TS]

00:44:56   easier way to do that way the ship they [TS]

00:45:00   decide if they go into the stuff for the [TS]

00:45:03   into the earth [TS]

00:45:04   everybody cheers the ship looks like [TS]

00:45:05   it's a worm in a tunnel a tunnel with [TS]

00:45:08   nothing in it with nothing in it that [TS]

00:45:10   there can be a camera shot pulled back [TS]

00:45:12   it shows them passing through it like [TS]

00:45:14   like it's a lobby is a glowy lobby [TS]

00:45:18   yeah like something out of trying if you [TS]

00:45:20   if you figure out how fast they have to [TS]

00:45:22   be going to get there to them like what [TS]

00:45:23   40 hours or something to get there [TS]

00:45:24   they're making good headway through the [TS]

00:45:27   earth it's a straight shot straight [TS]

00:45:30   others like where does there where does [TS]

00:45:31   the rock one it's a laser with no [TS]

00:45:33   resistance place the lasers just there's [TS]

00:45:36   not a lot of traffic the laser the laser [TS]

00:45:38   makes the rock just vanish into like [TS]

00:45:40   right it goes it goes someplace else [TS]

00:45:42   like it certainly doesn't become a gas [TS]

00:45:43   because we saw like the whole close [TS]

00:45:45   behind them when they went in so where [TS]

00:45:46   is that gasps going you know when [TS]

00:45:48   there's no traffic is really easy John [TS]

00:45:49   you're you're confused you're dealing [TS]

00:45:51   with like Massachusetts travel time like [TS]

00:45:53   you get out in the Midwest you get from [TS]

00:45:55   like like Dallas toma hot like two and a [TS]

00:45:57   half hours [TS]

00:45:58   nobody else is down there yeah that [TS]

00:46:00   later that they are really impressive [TS]

00:46:01   for cutting the path in front of them [TS]

00:46:03   until they encounter a genial jamia and [TS]

00:46:07   so I can cut through everything but that [TS]

00:46:09   purple crystals like out-of-work we're [TS]

00:46:11   gonna have to take this one out with the [TS]

00:46:12   blowtorch [TS]

00:46:13   I thought that scene was actually kind [TS]

00:46:15   of imaginative it's also stupid like [TS]

00:46:17   Morgan what they had a moment of like [TS]

00:46:19   please tell me they have to go outside [TS]

00:46:20   please tell me why well that all my god [TS]

00:46:22   they're actually going outside [TS]

00:46:23   I mean that I mean I appreciate that [TS]

00:46:26   probably you can tell a lot of there [TS]

00:46:28   were a lot of compromise [TS]

00:46:30   when they were making this script [TS]

00:46:31   because it's like I'm really just going [TS]

00:46:32   to be the whole compromised hour and a [TS]

00:46:34   half of the movie like that's kinda [TS]

00:46:35   boring all right we'll come with me [TS]

00:46:37   everybody was movie ever and it's like [TS]

00:46:40   why did they bring suits to go outside [TS]

00:46:42   that doesn't make any sense they were [TS]

00:46:43   expected to go out like they didn't even [TS]

00:46:45   know this was here they were gonna go [TS]

00:46:47   outside of the lava part like it's in [TS]

00:46:49   case they need to inject in the center [TS]

00:46:51   of the year they might fall forward we [TS]

00:46:55   just shoot them up and they would [TS]

00:46:56   immediately hit the edge of the tunnel [TS]

00:46:57   and I well in case there's like a cave [TS]

00:46:59   down there were dinosaurs in it that way [TS]

00:47:02   yeah don't go outside in the cave with [TS]

00:47:03   Dinosaurs go outside the cave that's not [TS]

00:47:05   that's why they bother brought their [TS]

00:47:07   giant dinosaur hunting guys ooh I'm a [TS]

00:47:10   trained Boy Scout don't get out in the [TS]

00:47:11   cave with that let's go to the other [TS]

00:47:13   cave without those get out when you're [TS]

00:47:15   in doubt your earth where the pressure [TS]

00:47:16   is so high that you'll be crushed into a [TS]

00:47:18   diamond [TS]

00:47:18   yeah no I mean there's nothing that [TS]

00:47:21   happens in this movie that is surprising [TS]

00:47:23   or scientifically actually yes and this [TS]

00:47:26   is this is one of those moments where [TS]

00:47:27   they need to have a thing where they [TS]

00:47:28   have to go outside and fix the ship they [TS]

00:47:30   needed and also because we need to start [TS]

00:47:32   picking off they needed so that they can [TS]

00:47:34   have a you know a tragic death and make [TS]

00:47:35   him an amp up the and a sacrifice this [TS]

00:47:37   is it is it's paint-by-numbers right [TS]

00:47:39   like it is literally you can you get [TS]

00:47:41   every single development that happens in [TS]

00:47:43   this movie is telegraphed it's and even [TS]

00:47:46   when they do the things like all the [TS]

00:47:47   things that we've seen before we see in [TS]

00:47:48   the scene where you make the noble [TS]

00:47:49   sacrifice you seen that you know we have [TS]

00:47:51   to go outside we have to repair the ship [TS]

00:47:52   who's gonna do it is that like all those [TS]

00:47:54   things we've seen in other movies and [TS]

00:47:55   every one of them is done in this movie [TS]

00:47:57   is done worse than I've ever seen it [TS]

00:47:58   done by i was watching anything right [TS]

00:48:00   into it and we were trying to like lay [TS]

00:48:02   out odds I'm like alright which one [TS]

00:48:04   which of them dies first [TS]

00:48:05   and in which way do they died and were [TS]

00:48:07   like alright the asshole like asking [TS]

00:48:08   eventually redeem himself but like [TS]

00:48:10   sacrificing yourself nobody all the [TS]

00:48:12   french guy he's don't we got written off [TS]

00:48:14   there like you can just you can pretty [TS]

00:48:16   much just figure out like who is going [TS]

00:48:18   to make it was not gonna make it within [TS]

00:48:20   the first 30 seconds of meeting them [TS]

00:48:22   yeah yeah and so when bruce greenwood [TS]

00:48:24   dies like he always does movies like [TS]

00:48:26   this [TS]

00:48:26   he's got he's got sean bean disease yeah [TS]

00:48:28   yeah so he's gonna you know he's going [TS]

00:48:30   to be he said you liked him your root [TS]

00:48:32   form and you know he's gonna die and [TS]

00:48:33   everybody's gonna be sad and somebody [TS]

00:48:35   else is gonna be inspired by his death [TS]

00:48:37   so when they you know it [TS]

00:48:39   aaron eckhart plugs in his oxygen to [TS]

00:48:41   save the ship and they fix things [TS]

00:48:43   since sacrifices everything he does [TS]

00:48:45   secretly is like is there any oxygen [TS]

00:48:47   anywhere i'm sure the stuff in the suit [TS]

00:48:49   comparable start but we have not used to [TS]

00:48:51   be a use the same plugs and it was gonna [TS]

00:48:54   say they're superoxide need to make sure [TS]

00:48:56   does it but here's here's the thing that [TS]

00:48:57   I love most in that scene as he's as [TS]

00:48:59   he's dying is apparently awkward when [TS]

00:49:01   they said Aaron ok you have no oxygen [TS]

00:49:03   and he's thinking what would that be [TS]

00:49:05   like how do i act like somebody who has [TS]

00:49:07   no oxygen and can't breathe anymore and [TS]

00:49:09   you know what he does he makes that an [TS]

00:49:10   interesting creative decision to use I'm [TS]

00:49:12   gonna just make it like I hold my own [TS]

00:49:14   like I'm holding my breath [TS]

00:49:15   so we seriously instead of like trying [TS]

00:49:18   to breathe because you'd be breathing [TS]

00:49:19   and all your beginnings carbon dioxide [TS]

00:49:20   and be like like again to go back to [TS]

00:49:22   some movie I mean like like 2001 or like [TS]

00:49:26   the abyss where you've got these things [TS]

00:49:27   for people with breathing problems [TS]

00:49:28   instead it's like he just hold his [TS]

00:49:31   breath until he dies and interesting [TS]

00:49:33   they didn't learn anything from the [TS]

00:49:35   Apollo program they're currently filling [TS]

00:49:36   their their suits with pure oxygen well [TS]

00:49:38   it's different when you're under [TS]

00:49:40   pressure of the core it's totally the [TS]

00:49:42   rules that are totally different what he [TS]

00:49:44   thought was good because they let him [TS]

00:49:45   bring his cigarette too so it's all [TS]

00:49:47   gonna work out my god [TS]

00:49:48   but let's focus on the idea that like [TS]

00:49:50   this thing is just tunneled through the [TS]

00:49:52   Earth's crust and it is hung up on one [TS]

00:49:55   purple Chris yeah into its mouth after [TS]

00:49:58   transfer vehicle laser the runs [TS]

00:49:59   impervious to lasers yeah it's a special [TS]

00:50:03   laser crystal i think they were trying [TS]

00:50:04   to say was like to close for the lasers [TS]

00:50:06   or somebody don't go over here cuddling [TS]

00:50:09   with the earth I weren't prepared to be [TS]

00:50:10   in that void with the geode which was a [TS]

00:50:12   beautiful thing that they never thought [TS]

00:50:13   would would be there but of course by [TS]

00:50:15   puncturing into it they've they've [TS]

00:50:17   allowed lava to come in and what's lava [TS]

00:50:20   starts falling from the ceiling I said I [TS]

00:50:22   guess we can hang out here a little [TS]

00:50:23   longer yeah you know hey especially [TS]

00:50:24   since they could just wait right a lot [TS]

00:50:25   of exactly that is what I was a pretty [TS]

00:50:28   thing like that purple crystal because [TS]

00:50:30   that's not going anywhere really [TS]

00:50:31   it's lovely i guess that they would yeah [TS]

00:50:33   I don't know they probably needed to get [TS]

00:50:35   out of there [TS]

00:50:35   you already built a ship that can [TS]

00:50:37   obviously withstand mag because you're [TS]

00:50:39   driving through most of the time but [TS]

00:50:40   they need to be able to shoot the you [TS]

00:50:42   know cut that crystal out because what [TS]

00:50:44   good is it said something like that yeah [TS]

00:50:47   they don't I mean it's don't worry about [TS]

00:50:49   it like you can make up like mad about [TS]

00:50:51   the engine stalls like it's not really [TS]

00:50:52   difficult to come up with some other [TS]

00:50:54   reason why they might be stranded of [TS]

00:50:55   and poke crystals poking interpreters [TS]

00:50:57   else that the other side thing is you [TS]

00:50:59   have the scene where old astronaut dies [TS]

00:51:01   and falls and it's like is he gonna be [TS]

00:51:02   okay that's like he falls into the llama [TS]

00:51:03   it's going to be okay i think it's just [TS]

00:51:05   a lot that goes into his helmet and it's [TS]

00:51:07   clear that's melting into his brain it [TS]

00:51:08   doesn't matter what happens I just that [TS]

00:51:10   scene bothers me because people wouldn't [TS]

00:51:12   sink into the lava so you only think in [TS]

00:51:14   the stuff that you know the density it [TS]

00:51:16   might catch on fire but the net yeah you [TS]

00:51:18   did on flex might be bad for you but [TS]

00:51:20   they're also have any like two feet from [TS]

00:51:21   lobbyists like to take a step back you [TS]

00:51:23   know [TS]

00:51:24   yeah it should I just stand here on the [TS]

00:51:26   edge and he's standing in front of the [TS]

00:51:27   laser like I and my notes that he [TS]

00:51:29   deserves a fiber standing in front of [TS]

00:51:30   that laser because no matter what you're [TS]

00:51:31   doing don't only turn on three of the [TS]

00:51:33   way also let us take a couple steps back [TS]

00:51:35   if we're gonna go outside the ship [TS]

00:51:37   why are you gonna send the commander [TS]

00:51:38   everybody went like it pretty much [TS]

00:51:40   everybody left the ship totally having a [TS]

00:51:42   lot of shape of the crystals that just [TS]

00:51:44   like somebody somebody needs to stay [TS]

00:51:46   inside so I think I hilary swank [TS]

00:51:48   stateside ratio yesterday's learn about [TS]

00:51:50   leadership [TS]

00:51:50   yeah exactly at anyway they do they do [TS]

00:51:53   saw the usual chainsaw to saw through V [TS]

00:51:56   big that they have with them incase [TS]

00:51:58   littoral we need to get our loads [TS]

00:52:00   whatever the advantages in case they [TS]

00:52:01   need to get out and do things and they [TS]

00:52:05   go back inside and everybody sad because [TS]

00:52:06   bruce greenwood has died in the he had [TS]

00:52:08   he got like love in his brain and dials [TS]

00:52:11   everything because they had previously [TS]

00:52:12   seen lavas falling from the CM they [TS]

00:52:15   could also see where it was falling from [TS]

00:52:16   and he continued to stand under the [TS]

00:52:19   place where the lavas falling without [TS]

00:52:20   looking up french scientist makes it [TS]

00:52:22   precise calculation that they have [TS]

00:52:24   exactly three minutes until the layout [TS]

00:52:26   all their math is done in their head all [TS]

00:52:28   the scientist that means you you do math [TS]

00:52:30   in your head without ever write anything [TS]

00:52:31   down on the spot in the moment and it's [TS]

00:52:33   a cure-all the science in this movie is [TS]

00:52:35   improvised mind-blowing it precise and [TS]

00:52:38   there is a line later it's like so we [TS]

00:52:40   need to do this and then have these [TS]

00:52:41   things off and everything is going to be [TS]

00:52:43   within a few inches within a few seconds [TS]

00:52:44   of each other [TS]

00:52:45   no problem they totally ignore that they [TS]

00:52:47   have a clock point later one of them [TS]

00:52:48   doesn't matter yeah throws everything [TS]

00:52:50   off so science is not an exact science [TS]

00:52:52   people get paid for this movie kind of [TS]

00:52:54   delights in I mean I guess specifically [TS]

00:52:57   with the the [TS]

00:52:58   you know Snoopy arrogant science [TS]

00:52:59   delights in sort of an anti-intellectual [TS]

00:53:01   like ridiculing the scientists every [TS]

00:53:04   time they tried to say or do something [TS]

00:53:06   to say haha something you don't know [TS]

00:53:08   about scientists that proves that [TS]

00:53:09   science is wrong [TS]

00:53:11   there's a lot about like these guys [TS]

00:53:12   should probably write some stuff down [TS]

00:53:14   well yeah hilary swank a grease pencil [TS]

00:53:15   so does made her the best navigator in [TS]

00:53:17   the world and everything worked out [TS]

00:53:19   great for him but these scientists just [TS]

00:53:20   walking around saying stuff no good when [TS]

00:53:23   you're riding with a grease pencil try [TS]

00:53:24   to try to puzzle that out [TS]

00:53:25   did no one stopping and like at least [TS]

00:53:27   enjoy the part where science is [TS]

00:53:29   apparently so important in this world [TS]

00:53:31   that a scientist get stopped and asked [TS]

00:53:33   for his autograph just like mob for his [TS]

00:53:36   out exact time he's very peace peace the [TS]

00:53:38   deal grass Tyson of any other thing I am [TS]

00:53:41   like no scientist everybody's having the [TS]

00:53:44   grass Tyson is not pulling out I so when [TS]

00:53:47   they go back inside after bruce [TS]

00:53:48   greenwood his dietary sad aaron eckhart [TS]

00:53:50   said he's bummed out he's right he's a [TS]

00:53:53   he's been revived from dot his oxygen [TS]

00:53:56   when he was holding his breath too long [TS]

00:53:57   and hilary swank and he share a moment [TS]

00:54:00   because she sad because pre-screen would [TS]

00:54:01   died and I really delighted miss there's [TS]

00:54:04   a tossed off line where he says who's [TS]

00:54:06   steering the ship and she's a video [TS]

00:54:08   screen autopilot sure to use that the [TS]

00:54:10   whole time and white knuckling this [TS]

00:54:12   entire trip and now all of a sudden it's [TS]

00:54:14   like I just gotta let the autopilot [TS]

00:54:15   we're doing we're doing good it's right [TS]

00:54:17   here on my iPad don't worry about it and [TS]

00:54:18   she had not bad it was forward-looking [TS]

00:54:19   it's like I don't have to pay that much [TS]

00:54:21   attention to this thing practically [TS]

00:54:22   flies this all mean seriously we're just [TS]

00:54:23   going straight down just keep going down [TS]

00:54:26   just keep going to turn left [TS]

00:54:27   can I sell can't miss it was not a [TS]

00:54:30   slogan for this movie the only way out [TS]

00:54:32   is in or the only way out is through [TS]

00:54:33   what was that tagline I don't think this [TS]

00:54:36   movie has a slogan because i don't think [TS]

00:54:39   it was in that and I'm thinking of [TS]

00:54:41   another movie with a tunnel through [TS]

00:54:42   which is possible it was like the only [TS]

00:54:43   way out is in yet you're right it is the [TS]

00:54:45   only way out is in this one also [TS]

00:54:47   elsewhere in the guests earth has a [TS]

00:54:50   deadline [TS]

00:54:51   oh I've seen that one yeah yeah so don't [TS]

00:54:55   go don't go through anything black you [TS]

00:54:58   know that's where standards diamond I [TS]

00:55:00   guess it can't cut through that with [TS]

00:55:02   those reasons [TS]

00:55:03   John it's like skiing black diamonds are [TS]

00:55:05   bad yeah very difficult and disarmed i [TS]

00:55:08   like how the diamonds are sort of like [TS]

00:55:10   it [TS]

00:55:10   it is seriously as if there [TS]

00:55:11   enter an ocean the whole time because [TS]

00:55:13   everything is yellow wood and things are [TS]

00:55:14   floating in it and they're swishing and [TS]

00:55:16   floating through the anything that's [TS]

00:55:17   kind of what the mantle is like well we [TS]

00:55:20   don't know that did you not learn what [TS]

00:55:22   do you mean we don't know [TS]

00:55:24   geologists know that yeah well do they [TS]

00:55:27   come in science is really its kind of [TS]

00:55:29   whatever you want it to be good with [TS]

00:55:30   Dinosaurs down there we don't know [TS]

00:55:32   besides what you believe Tony God we we [TS]

00:55:34   were talking site that the earth is like [TS]

00:55:36   a peach or sometimes that my attention [TS]

00:55:38   that that is literally the 1 educational [TS]

00:55:40   component of the of the movie and it was [TS]

00:55:43   lost on you [TS]

00:55:44   I just learned about burning that was i [TS]

00:55:46   mean thats that was for dramatic effect [TS]

00:55:48   that was not educational and I seems [TS]

00:55:50   seems like all of a lot of swishing [TS]

00:55:52   around dodging and moving and obviously [TS]

00:55:54   they have to make it seem vaguely [TS]

00:55:56   exciting and not just like a dark hole [TS]

00:55:58   that you're like we're on a train ride [TS]

00:56:00   yeah that's what I mean that the thing [TS]

00:56:02   doesn't know how to deal with empty [TS]

00:56:03   space so it's just as well [TS]

00:56:05   yeah they didn't plan for that I don't [TS]

00:56:07   know so then they breached by a pokey [TS]

00:56:09   diamond mhm so the french guy has to go [TS]

00:56:13   back to get the things with numbers on [TS]

00:56:15   them that are like bomb stickers or [TS]

00:56:18   something I me now [TS]

00:56:19   now that one person has died like it's [TS]

00:56:21   like now it's on like Donkey every 15 [TS]

00:56:24   minutes easy now [TS]

00:56:25   yeah we gotta like somebody's gotta go [TS]

00:56:27   sorry so so he gets he gets locked in [TS]

00:56:31   the back and aaron eckhart yells hilary [TS]

00:56:35   swank to open the door but she learns an [TS]

00:56:37   important lesson about leadership that's [TS]

00:56:39   what my no she said she does she live in [TS]

00:56:41   learning portal whooshes to ignore [TS]

00:56:43   everybody and and be a coward and not [TS]

00:56:45   open the director and their lesson was [TS]

00:56:46   like I know if everything goes okay [TS]

00:56:49   you're not a leader so make sure people [TS]

00:56:51   die make sure you let him die [TS]

00:56:52   guys I'm going to choose i'm going to [TS]

00:56:54   choose my words carefully here but i [TS]

00:56:55   think that may be the stupidest scene in [TS]

00:56:57   the movie [TS]

00:56:58   I'm not following he worries squished [TS]

00:57:01   into the room where most then we're like [TS]

00:57:03   like we're a bunch of interns are [TS]

00:57:05   pushing props for your space [TS]

00:57:07   he said that his face is like this room [TS]

00:57:08   is really small and like and like really [TS]

00:57:11   and even though the room itself is being [TS]

00:57:13   crushed by the Earth's pressure like the [TS]

00:57:16   camera is still fine up until 5p [TS]

00:57:18   left-hand see them but we can see him my [TS]

00:57:20   notes say he dies very slowly [TS]

00:57:22   embarrassingly with a little dignity was [TS]

00:57:25   good enough to put down all his [TS]

00:57:26   important equations in a notebook that [TS]

00:57:28   was discarded from his daughters like [TS]

00:57:30   kindergarten class or something [TS]

00:57:31   mainly I thought that scene could have [TS]

00:57:34   been not the worst thing in the entire [TS]

00:57:36   movie if we didn't see his face on the [TS]

00:57:38   little video camera he might have just [TS]

00:57:39   been bad as people said push the little [TS]

00:57:42   green spaces like it had just been audio [TS]

00:57:45   of him like you know that would have [TS]

00:57:47   been way better when I would have done [TS]

00:57:48   it a hundred times better and that's the [TS]

00:57:50   kind of choice the director of the court [TS]

00:57:52   doesn't make I was waiting for the lava [TS]

00:57:54   flow in and kill him and instead is too [TS]

00:57:56   expensive it's like metal shelves keep [TS]

00:57:58   crushing him until he goes uh it's [TS]

00:58:00   really just looks crowded it doesn't [TS]

00:58:02   know Gabrielle pressure there it's like [TS]

00:58:04   someone keeps putting this metal in my [TS]

00:58:06   face but otherwise like but as soon as [TS]

00:58:08   he gives up comfortable as soon as he's [TS]

00:58:10   like uh then cut the outside thing Jax [TS]

00:58:13   crumbled like a tin can and that's all [TS]

00:58:15   you need to show was the bed cg [TS]

00:58:16   crumpling we get it he's in there and [TS]

00:58:18   some french guy who is also why are [TS]

00:58:19   those timers so large [TS]

00:58:22   well they have to hook they have to [TS]

00:58:23   connect to an old-timey nuclear bomb [TS]

00:58:25   that's been sitting a seven-second cold [TS]

00:58:27   warriors are essential for nuclear they [TS]

00:58:29   wanted to like they're like rack mounts [TS]

00:58:30   though [TS]

00:58:31   yeah well yeah but they have to [TS]

00:58:32   interface with cold war technology that [TS]

00:58:34   looks Delroy Lindo only had three months [TS]

00:58:36   okay yeah no change in whatever he has [TS]

00:58:39   on hand is whatever is left over and [TS]

00:58:41   also I'm the video gaming attack that [TS]

00:58:45   aaron eckhart mix on Hilary Swank is I [TS]

00:58:47   was two inches from him other than like [TS]

00:58:50   you were we dragged you through a whole [TS]

00:58:52   other room and closed the second set of [TS]

00:58:54   doors so he wasn't too he was but every [TS]

00:58:57   store was kind of slowly closed [TS]

00:58:59   compartment and the movie did take its [TS]

00:59:00   time like out when he was making that [TS]

00:59:02   argument was like you know the way that [TS]

00:59:03   was shot it really did seem like there [TS]

00:59:05   was time yeah I thought when the doorway [TS]

00:59:06   or right I thought when the door closed [TS]

00:59:08   like always dead now wait now let's talk [TS]

00:59:10   to him for five always dead yeah you [TS]

00:59:13   could and that's that's what makes her [TS]

00:59:14   stupid lesson about leadership it's like [TS]

00:59:16   you got to make the hard choice you [TS]

00:59:17   think you just made the wrong choice [TS]

00:59:18   there mean just go well that's the labs [TS]

00:59:20   lesson about leadership is the stone [TS]

00:59:22   that choice man [TS]

00:59:23   yepp baby maybe he would for a lead-in [TS]

00:59:26   the movement charge you'll probably live [TS]

00:59:28   to the ends and let everyone else die [TS]

00:59:31   we're going to make it through did you [TS]

00:59:32   read the script or fine but it's ok [TS]

00:59:34   we're checking off our ways that people [TS]

00:59:36   will die we've got guy dies in [TS]

00:59:37   unfortunate accident guy sacrifices [TS]

00:59:40   himself in an unfortunate accident you [TS]

00:59:42   know I think we're up for Plan sacrifice [TS]

00:59:44   I feel like we really gotta get that I'm [TS]

01:01:17   route check out the free trial and thank [TS]

01:01:19   you so much to mail route for sponsoring [TS]

01:01:21   the uncomfortable but first we have to [TS]

01:01:23   visit interspace central where everybody [TS]

01:01:25   look sad [TS]

01:01:26   I just yeah that awkward scene where you [TS]

01:01:27   realize like oh crap did we leave the [TS]

01:01:29   mic on for all of that [TS]

01:01:30   yeah Shh have been listening to this [TS]

01:01:32   which was also kind of weird because we [TS]

01:01:34   have not actually had any kind of bad or [TS]

01:01:37   mean like yeah like 35 minute [TS]

01:01:39   conversation but what function today [TS]

01:01:40   serving any way other than like watching [TS]

01:01:42   the progress they don't seem to be 18 [TS]

01:01:44   given direction anyway they should just [TS]

01:01:46   have like screens up in the in like and [TS]

01:01:48   parks around the clock and I just asked [TS]

01:01:50   how when you dive through the thing that [TS]

01:01:52   has like giant like electromagnetic [TS]

01:01:54   waves and whatever you want like how are [TS]

01:01:56   you using radio to communicate still [TS]

01:01:57   with people they were trailing a line [TS]

01:01:59   behind them that goes all the way back [TS]

01:02:00   up to uhf antenna I get it that's [TS]

01:02:02   something the lauren ask me which was [TS]

01:02:04   why did they even send people on so I [TS]

01:02:07   said well probably because you know you [TS]

01:02:10   never know what might happen and and [TS]

01:02:11   down there by the core you probably [TS]

01:02:13   can't get radio [TS]

01:02:13   signals through except did also this [TS]

01:02:16   movie is slightly more boring it is [TS]

01:02:18   clearly more expensive to make it what's [TS]

01:02:20   up just robots are you going on man why [TS]

01:02:22   are you sure that you're boring [TS]

01:02:23   characters I mean why is every movie [TS]

01:02:26   about space a bunch of astronauts [TS]

01:02:27   instead of a bunch of robots imagine if [TS]

01:02:29   it was r2d2 and c3po 2001 was trying to [TS]

01:02:31   take care of that problem i watch that [TS]

01:02:33   cartoon series stanley tucci is [TS]

01:02:35   basically the c-3po yes that's true you [TS]

01:02:39   make it you make a strong point [TS]

01:02:40   unfortunately they end of the core and [TS]

01:02:42   the core material is too thin and thus [TS]

01:02:44   we said it turns out destiny is now ago [TS]

01:02:46   we will fire destiny it which leads to [TS]

01:02:49   have seen where I so desperately turns [TS]

01:02:53   out is this thing that Stanley Tucci's [TS]

01:02:54   been working on that's kind of like an [TS]

01:02:55   evil science earthquake weapon thing [TS]

01:03:00   it's all done retro actively and very [TS]

01:03:02   rarely seen the military uses science [TS]

01:03:05   for bad military yeah some people think [TS]

01:03:08   it might have had something to do with [TS]

01:03:09   the problems they did inside this movie [TS]

01:03:11   bond likely doesn't seem like it yeah [TS]

01:03:14   probably just happened on its own after [TS]

01:03:15   millions gentle strange billions of [TS]

01:03:18   years or just hanging out the earth just [TS]

01:03:20   decided yet i'm done but it leaves it [TS]

01:03:22   leads to a great moment where where [TS]

01:03:24   Stanley Tucci rages and everybody down [TS]

01:03:28   in the little core in the little [TS]

01:03:29   courtship or as I put it in my notes [TS]

01:03:31   stanley tucci gets very angry about [TS]

01:03:33   having to be in this movie because it [TS]

01:03:36   really feels like why am I even here [TS]

01:03:38   that's what he's tapping that's this is [TS]

01:03:39   happening 30 method actor [TS]

01:03:41   why why why am i down here with you [TS]

01:03:44   people there to get punched in the face [TS]

01:03:45   by Delroy Lindo who he stole all the [TS]

01:03:48   science off of but we know secretly [TS]

01:03:49   they're actually in love [TS]

01:03:51   yeah i did like it I didn't enjoy daily [TS]

01:03:53   to getting punched in the face that was [TS]

01:03:55   one of my favorite moments in the entire [TS]

01:03:57   movie i think is one of the only lines [TS]

01:03:59   that I gotta send out anyways had to [TS]

01:04:01   happen eventually [TS]

01:04:02   there's a little never little fourth [TS]

01:04:05   wall breaking there's like yeah you're [TS]

01:04:07   right i'm not a scientist does have to [TS]

01:04:09   get punched eventually so to amp up the [TS]

01:04:10   attention we have to see we have to see [TS]

01:04:14   more destruction on a global scale up [TS]

01:04:15   above [TS]

01:04:16   how about the Golden Gate Bridge does [TS]

01:04:18   that ever get destroyed in movies so a [TS]

01:04:19   lot of my notes say like with bruce [TS]

01:04:21   greenwood my notes at Golden Gate Bridge [TS]

01:04:22   dies like it does in all these movies [TS]

01:04:24   but invisible microwaves from space [TS]

01:04:27   which are visible yeah is it they say [TS]

01:04:29   they're invisible and then they show [TS]

01:04:30   them immediately as invisible [TS]

01:04:32   I mean that can be that can be moisture [TS]

01:04:34   in the air and they works like like a [TS]

01:04:36   microwave oven you see if you're bad [TS]

01:04:38   sunburn [TS]

01:04:39   yeah yeah they boil the water they give [TS]

01:04:40   you a son because it's totally what [TS]

01:04:42   microwave radiation does is this where [TS]

01:04:44   the phrase boiling the ocean comes from [TS]

01:04:45   because you're fine [TS]

01:04:47   yeah the boiler bridge to you get the [TS]

01:04:49   bridge melted bridge mixed up in your in [TS]

01:04:51   your boiled ocean then so there's a guy [TS]

01:04:53   on the Golden Gate Bridge driving and it [TS]

01:04:54   is a traffic jam on the golden gate [TS]

01:04:56   bridge which never happened which [TS]

01:04:57   doesn't really have another the most [TS]

01:04:59   realistic thing in the morning and he [TS]

01:05:00   and he gets the end against his arm [TS]

01:05:02   burned right and and it's one of those [TS]

01:05:03   moments where like we're supposed to [TS]

01:05:05   identify with this random character and [TS]

01:05:07   see it through his so that we get so we [TS]

01:05:09   get a personal version well so this is [TS]

01:05:11   my my premise that I want to share with [TS]

01:05:13   you guys which is as the golden gate [TS]

01:05:15   bridge falls apart and i'm watching the [TS]

01:05:16   core and I'm questioning things about my [TS]

01:05:18   life I thought you know what would be [TS]

01:05:20   good is if we just look we've stayed [TS]

01:05:22   with this random guy to see his arm get [TS]

01:05:25   burned and to see through his window as [TS]

01:05:27   the golden gate bridge starts to fall [TS]

01:05:29   apart [TS]

01:05:30   why not just keep staying with him we [TS]

01:05:31   watch his car fall in the ocean we [TS]

01:05:34   follow it down to the bottom we see [TS]

01:05:35   drives down to the core see we see the [TS]

01:05:38   water fill up we see him drown we [TS]

01:05:39   watched his body float away maybe we [TS]

01:05:41   follow it [TS]

01:05:42   maybe it gets eaten by a shark later [TS]

01:05:43   part of it doesn't part of it washes [TS]

01:05:45   that would be I think that might be a [TS]

01:05:47   better movie than but unfortunately we [TS]

01:05:50   don't follow his body so this is [TS]

01:05:52   probably not even your favorite movie [TS]

01:05:54   scene of the Golden Gate Bridge getting [TS]

01:05:55   destroyed [TS]

01:05:56   oh no ok do you want to do is a top [TS]

01:05:59   three of your preferably the x-men 1 [TS]

01:06:01   making that would be my top of the x-men [TS]

01:06:03   1 although that is a really terrible [TS]

01:06:04   movie but yeah but it's pretty [TS]

01:06:07   spectacular destruction of the golden [TS]

01:06:09   gate bridge i really like if I really [TS]

01:06:11   like hanging out in a jay from Star Trek [TS]

01:06:12   movie where they show the golden gate [TS]

01:06:13   bridge and they have the giant laser [TS]

01:06:15   fired at the golden gate bridge and then [TS]

01:06:16   they turn it off and then and then they [TS]

01:06:18   break the the chain and it's going to [TS]

01:06:20   the whole laser is going to fall on the [TS]

01:06:21   golden gate bridge and it just pops next [TS]

01:06:23   to the bridge and the bridge is fine [TS]

01:06:24   actually that really made me laugh [TS]

01:06:26   because you know they didn't destroy the [TS]

01:06:29   goal i think i want to Godzilla killed [TS]

01:06:30   it and yea God's oh yeah and Pacific Rim [TS]

01:06:34   doesn't Pacific Rim kill and bridgeton [TS]

01:06:36   maine bridge is just a scout for yeah [TS]

01:06:38   it's just like I you and me [TS]

01:06:40   your story gets hit by meteors clobbered [TS]

01:06:43   by a shark i'm just looking at the [TS]

01:06:44   golden gate bridge in popular culture [TS]

01:06:46   page on wikipedia which claimed nice i'm [TS]

01:06:49   glad we have that I also I'll i think my [TS]

01:06:51   favorite thing is that we see the golden [TS]

01:06:53   gate bridge destroyed and then there's [TS]

01:06:55   the like to cut to the news footage [TS]

01:06:56   where they tell us that all of San [TS]

01:06:58   Francisco's destroyed also [TS]

01:06:59   but they didn't show us that becomes [TS]

01:07:01   larger place with large parts of it were [TS]

01:07:03   my car to see it like moving over [TS]

01:07:05   towards clearly that's going expensive [TS]

01:07:07   yeah we can we can we got it we got the [TS]

01:07:08   budget for one bridge and then just [TS]

01:07:10   imagine that the rest of the city when [TS]

01:07:12   you have disaster movies when you're [TS]

01:07:13   gonna kill like lots of people is kind [TS]

01:07:15   of two ways you can go with it one is [TS]

01:07:17   that you get cat you established [TS]

01:07:19   characters and you have them sort of in [TS]

01:07:21   the disaster area like main characters [TS]

01:07:23   are family of main characters and you [TS]

01:07:24   focus on them and the other one is you [TS]

01:07:26   never see a person and it's more like [TS]

01:07:27   independence day we're just blowing up [TS]

01:07:28   models right and this is the weird [TS]

01:07:30   in-between your legs [TS]

01:07:31   yeah I want you to identify with this [TS]

01:07:33   one guy who will immediately die it's [TS]

01:07:35   like you have your gonna go for [TS]

01:07:37   spectacle are you gonna try to make me [TS]

01:07:38   care that people are in peril and they [TS]

01:07:39   didn't either but they were shooting for [TS]

01:07:42   both yeah that the inserting the [TS]

01:07:45   characters into it is is kinda weird to [TS]

01:07:47   i mean there's have you guys another [TS]

01:07:48   horrible disaster movie The Day After [TS]

01:07:50   Tomorrow where there's like places where [TS]

01:07:52   there's like a cold front chasing [TS]

01:07:54   characters and it's like nail know that [TS]

01:07:56   it's like a weather man's nightmare [TS]

01:07:58   might as well you might as well use the [TS]

01:07:59   Yeti at that point for their arms later [TS]

01:08:02   it's like we have with there's a [TS]

01:08:03   blizzard and also but but making a [TS]

01:08:05   polluted scary is really hard so how [TS]

01:08:06   about some bull that's what homes that [TS]

01:08:09   are immune to the coals are practically [TS]

01:08:11   weather [TS]

01:08:11   hey at least we didn't get to the part [TS]

01:08:13   with the wolves in the corvere yeah this [TS]

01:08:15   movie is better than that if this movie [TS]

01:08:16   was on that scale there be like course [TS]

01:08:18   takes in the middle of the computers i [TS]

01:08:19   was waiting out a part way to go out [TS]

01:08:21   into the geode cavern I might know the [TS]

01:08:23   only way this can get better as if [TS]

01:08:24   there's things alive in your abs [TS]

01:08:26   yeah it would have been in this movie [TS]

01:08:28   would have been improved by subterranean [TS]

01:08:31   dwelling creatures of some kind of this [TS]

01:08:33   movie is to try to level your steaks at [TS]

01:08:36   science man come on [TS]

01:08:38   science has never proved or disproved [TS]

01:08:40   course takes let's be really hard to [TS]

01:08:41   disprove course makes I enjoy that [TS]

01:08:43   destiny is being run entirely by dudes [TS]

01:08:47   in white shirts and ties in front of [TS]

01:08:49   CRT's yeah HP the cgi for the destiny [TS]

01:08:53   thing is [TS]

01:08:54   Morsi is he it is like real genius level [TS]

01:08:57   it's like a reboot level [TS]

01:08:59   yeah it is reboot level I mean there's [TS]

01:09:01   no there's no texture it's like we've [TS]

01:09:03   just got flat giant things and like a [TS]

01:09:05   green army truck texture on its one of [TS]

01:09:08   the rare movie special effects from the [TS]

01:09:11   two thousands that modern game consoles [TS]

01:09:13   can trump hundred times and really in [TS]

01:09:16   real time [TS]

01:09:17   yeah i mean like any actual game destiny [TS]

01:09:19   looks way better than back and it's you [TS]

01:09:23   know probably they didn't want to spend [TS]

01:09:24   a lot of money on that scene they put [TS]

01:09:26   all their money into pigeons but ya [TS]

01:09:28   didn't screensaver invented by a site [TS]

01:09:32   like oh but they got those sweet gauges [TS]

01:09:34   though with the power levels make those [TS]

01:09:37   I don't think those are cgi think those [TS]

01:09:39   are just likes no I'm just saying those [TS]

01:09:40   are pretty sweet though we have leftover [TS]

01:09:42   props from war games like we can do is [TS]

01:09:43   write to that number is running its in [TS]

01:09:46   fact all the same caste who they were [TS]

01:09:47   locked in a bunker 30 years ago [TS]

01:09:50   meanwhile that are our friend the hacker [TS]

01:09:51   kid is is hacking something which will [TS]

01:09:53   come back and I think they give him [TS]

01:09:54   something to do he is their man on the [TS]

01:09:56   inside helping to delay the people who [TS]

01:09:59   don't have faith in the people like [TS]

01:10:01   that's you know that I'm glad they had [TS]

01:10:02   the forethought to set up that coded [TS]

01:10:04   exchange of messages [TS]

01:10:06   yes a penas that was there would be a [TS]

01:10:09   secret hidden and also people get very [TS]

01:10:11   angry because the code exchange of [TS]

01:10:13   messages that's based on prime numbers [TS]

01:10:15   includes the use of one as a prime [TS]

01:10:17   number [TS]

01:10:17   no we yeah isn't one the Primus number [TS]

01:10:21   really what that would have been great [TS]

01:10:22   if you just type 357 take off our [TS]

01:10:26   computer literate nerds we've ticked off [TS]

01:10:28   our geologist nerds you gotta get them [TS]

01:10:30   all we take off our bridge nerds we [TS]

01:10:32   forgot to mention on the bridge seen the [TS]

01:10:34   bridge bends the wrong way after cut a [TS]

01:10:36   hole in it should bend back and yeah [TS]

01:10:38   well it's like them up they melt the [TS]

01:10:40   cable bridge bridge nerds are the worst [TS]

01:10:42   to work sorry but you're not sorry [TS]

01:10:46   ah they're not as bad as flag near ok at [TS]

01:10:48   the anything butt off the typeface nerds [TS]

01:10:50   too because the typeface they use for [TS]

01:10:52   the little titles of like where they are [TS]

01:10:54   with the time they're lighter already a [TS]

01:10:55   face that is but it looks several [TS]

01:10:57   decades in gray look I expect to see a [TS]

01:10:59   typeface over total recall [TS]

01:11:00   no one's afraid of typeface nerds that's [TS]

01:11:02   not good it's not good [TS]

01:11:04   we're going to current me to death [TS]

01:11:05   meanwhile down on me i'm down [TS]

01:11:07   on the the the core Core shuttle uh [TS]

01:11:10   Aaron Eckhart and Delroy Lindo are [TS]

01:11:13   actively doing math there's a lot of [TS]

01:11:16   math going on [TS]

01:11:18   well they already have the answers the [TS]

01:11:19   investigators shouting them out the [TS]

01:11:20   other words they're working out there [TS]

01:11:22   dude lots to talk about math when [TS]

01:11:23   Stanley party some hardcore mapping and [TS]

01:11:25   so they're massing and Stanley she's [TS]

01:11:27   really mad but he's so mad in fact that [TS]

01:11:30   he gets inspired and will tell tell them [TS]

01:11:32   the secret of everything if he'll let [TS]

01:11:35   him get into his cache of cigarettes and [TS]

01:11:37   which one really establishes a thing [TS]

01:11:40   going on why looks like he's using one [TS]

01:11:42   like there's a point earlier on where I [TS]

01:11:44   thought he was like 2 and on 1 or [TS]

01:11:45   something it's like they're they never [TS]

01:11:47   made a point of him not being allowed to [TS]

01:11:48   have cigarettes yeah there's 20 minutes [TS]

01:11:50   on the cutting-room floor separates [TS]

01:11:52   exactly 22 nicotine if you show him [TS]

01:11:54   smoking a lot but just like staring at a [TS]

01:11:57   cigarette like doing like a ham what [TS]

01:11:58   thing with it i think about how much [TS]

01:12:00   more fleshed out his character would be [TS]

01:12:01   if we knew we knew that about his [TS]

01:12:03   nicotine addiction that's his entire [TS]

01:12:05   character if I mean that is that he's [TS]

01:12:08   he's got he's you know he's kind of a [TS]

01:12:10   mesh of like you're you're you know [TS]

01:12:12   Jacques Cousteau doing his narration he [TS]

01:12:14   make him dress like Carl Sagan yeah you [TS]

01:12:16   know what he's like a mean jerky Carlson [TS]

01:12:19   make fun of him for pretending to be [TS]

01:12:20   Carl Sagan so he helped me says we need [TS]

01:12:22   to we need to to wrap bombs in each [TS]

01:12:26   compartment and time them up so it's [TS]

01:12:28   really fortunate we learned about the [TS]

01:12:30   auto ejection system earlier because now [TS]

01:12:32   we need it and they have to begin an [TS]

01:12:36   argument about who gets the privilege of [TS]

01:12:37   dying by a setting up the manual [TS]

01:12:40   ejection that has to happen and Delroy [TS]

01:12:43   Lindo cheats because he wants to die the [TS]

01:12:46   most of all of them but they really they [TS]

01:12:48   argue about bad cos an aircard remember [TS]

01:12:51   like guys guys listen it's just me [TS]

01:12:52   Hilary Swank come on yeah now later [TS]

01:12:55   doesn't you just choosing who goes first [TS]

01:12:57   yeah so the hacker or hacker pal messes [TS]

01:13:00   with destiny they reject the bits hacker [TS]

01:13:03   stops destiny just in time and says [TS]

01:13:06   sorry Tony [TS]

01:13:08   gotcha your comfort food is not strong [TS]

01:13:11   at least at least he didn't say I mean [TS]

01:13:13   like he's required it's something like [TS]

01:13:14   he was already in I know it was like [TS]

01:13:16   regular people but I mean if there was a [TS]

01:13:18   scene where the monitor is reflected in [TS]

01:13:20   his [TS]

01:13:21   passes the way it totally doesn't happen [TS]

01:13:22   with glasses and yes to say I mean [TS]

01:13:24   that's you know that's the next level [TS]

01:13:26   off they didn't have been playing pong [TS]

01:13:28   was nice [TS]

01:13:29   yeah yeah but instead we get your [TS]

01:13:31   country is not strong [TS]

01:13:32   come on it's worse than and we have our [TS]

01:13:35   third third scientists death as he walks [TS]

01:13:37   into that tube which I did not [TS]

01:13:39   understand where that tube was in their [TS]

01:13:41   ship that looks like it's just five [TS]

01:13:42   rooms connected together but there's [TS]

01:13:44   like a big tube somewhere [TS]

01:13:45   although that was that's the amount of [TS]

01:13:47   revenue sacrificing himself for when the [TS]

01:13:49   stamina to she dies no no don't lindo [TS]

01:13:52   died yes he's got a he's got a set up [TS]

01:13:54   the injector and he's in like the tube [TS]

01:13:56   where the impeller is so once they once [TS]

01:13:59   they turn the power back on [TS]

01:14:00   you know the whatever stuff there [TS]

01:14:03   they're going through like an earthworm [TS]

01:14:04   will get sucked back through that's [TS]

01:14:06   where it goes John at after the blazer [TS]

01:14:09   is it goes through this little chamber [TS]

01:14:11   on the inside of the ship [TS]

01:14:13   I don't know but so he doesn't hear [TS]

01:14:15   there's a spooky tube that he's gonna [TS]

01:14:17   walk down and melted and I do not want [TS]

01:14:18   to be melted to death that maybe it [TS]

01:14:20   won't work that was hot [TS]

01:14:22   they made the to look I didn't look as [TS]

01:14:24   embarrassing as the room or things that [TS]

01:14:25   closer to your face [TS]

01:14:26   yeah and his glasses crack and you know [TS]

01:14:28   I mean that's a lot that you guys have [TS]

01:14:31   to get to the end and push all the [TS]

01:14:32   buttons and needs to do and dealer [TS]

01:14:34   middle and happy [TS]

01:14:35   yeah yeah he transferred to do an [TS]

01:14:37   elaborate thing where there's like a [TS]

01:14:38   adoria to open and then around thing he [TS]

01:14:40   has to turn and push in and all that [TS]

01:14:43   it's could see it's complicated but he [TS]

01:14:44   built it so he knows how are they going [TS]

01:14:46   to send a robot to do but obviously they [TS]

01:14:48   don't have any robot also forget it [TS]

01:14:49   help again no robots so that this is all [TS]

01:14:54   great and we're going to we're going to [TS]

01:14:55   save the day and it's gonna be awesome [TS]

01:14:56   except it turns out that there was a [TS]

01:14:57   massive miscalculation and they need six [TS]

01:15:00   pounds of plutonium leading to the great [TS]

01:15:02   line where we going to get six plants [TS]

01:15:04   pounds of plutonium and then and then [TS]

01:15:06   doc brown shows up this movie would have [TS]

01:15:08   done so much better with a laugh track [TS]

01:15:09   by the way [TS]

01:15:10   yeah well well the best part about the [TS]

01:15:12   plutonium line is it's immediately cut [TS]

01:15:14   to something sparkly happens outside the [TS]

01:15:17   ship and hilary swank shouts we've been [TS]

01:15:19   hit by an energy flare ok something else [TS]

01:15:23   that has not been discussed obviously [TS]

01:15:25   maybe it was hanging out with stanley [TS]

01:15:26   tucci cigarette yes in that yeah the [TS]

01:15:28   energy flare on the cutting-room floor [TS]

01:15:29   so aaron eckhart is [TS]

01:15:31   is trapped in a compartment and and he's [TS]

01:15:37   going to play and I guess he's the euro [TS]

01:15:38   I know but still have the date that the [TS]

01:15:41   the double fake-out sacrifice and let [TS]

01:15:43   you go on ahead [TS]

01:15:44   saved by the plot no you go on ahead [TS]

01:15:47   this big everything rolled on top of me [TS]

01:15:49   oh no you go ahead wait now the big [TS]

01:15:51   heavy thing is rolled up me it was [TS]

01:15:53   everybody gets a sacrifice sweet now the [TS]

01:15:56   big heavy thing rolls off of me after [TS]

01:15:58   I've sacrificed myself so I can sit [TS]

01:16:00   around and have a cigarette [TS]

01:16:01   it didn't even look that heavy like it [TS]

01:16:02   was wobbling somebody and they're [TS]

01:16:04   working on it is like seems like you do [TS]

01:16:06   stand-up dude they only had seconds to [TS]

01:16:07   get into the little little door thing [TS]

01:16:09   just hold the door hold the doing it but [TS]

01:16:12   he gets the he gets the information that [TS]

01:16:15   they got anything i will write about [TS]

01:16:17   like just putting like a crow bar where [TS]

01:16:19   the door is going up and down its by the [TS]

01:16:21   cells in the crockpot minutes [TS]

01:16:22   can we go back a second more where they [TS]

01:16:24   talk about the fact that in order to [TS]

01:16:25   like set all these bombs off they have [TS]

01:16:27   to be in very precise location and [TS]

01:16:28   involve them just sort of ejecting [TS]

01:16:30   somewhere in the middle somewhere [TS]

01:16:32   isolated six pounds of six pounds of [TS]

01:16:35   plutonium you don't give or take [TS]

01:16:38   yeah it's not it's not a clear brothers [TS]

01:16:40   out of precise application [TS]

01:16:42   yeah also not science yeah we go but [TS]

01:16:45   that's that's where there's that [TS]

01:16:46   actually funny line where they say they [TS]

01:16:48   list all the reasons this is ridiculous [TS]

01:16:50   and say yeah no problem [TS]

01:16:51   I mean you know if you're trapped in a [TS]

01:16:54   courtship at the middle of the earth you [TS]

01:16:55   might as well try but these kids are [TS]

01:16:57   good these are the finest minds on the [TS]

01:16:59   planet [TS]

01:16:59   guys Leila's other 200 guys who were the [TS]

01:17:02   press conference early could write them [TS]

01:17:04   up again [TS]

01:17:05   yeah you know I have to think that like [TS]

01:17:06   a better plan to save these people of [TS]

01:17:08   time and energy is like if they cause [TS]

01:17:10   this thing with the giant destiny device [TS]

01:17:12   which apparently has magical sources of [TS]

01:17:13   huge amounts of energy to affect the [TS]

01:17:15   Earth's core [TS]

01:17:16   surely if you wanted to restart their [TS]

01:17:18   score your best bet is to use the [TS]

01:17:20   Machine proven to have the strength to [TS]

01:17:22   to mess with your score rather than [TS]

01:17:25   sending someone down here to set off [TS]

01:17:27   bombs [TS]

01:17:27   I don't know it just seems like you've [TS]

01:17:30   you know this is a system that works [TS]

01:17:32   I mean for certain values of works well [TS]

01:17:35   it up again like blood setting off a [TS]

01:17:38   bunch of bombs in your scar that might [TS]

01:17:40   restarted the core is like an engine you [TS]

01:17:42   know it would be great if this entire [TS]

01:17:43   movie [TS]

01:17:44   we're about how like some secret shadowy [TS]

01:17:46   cabal was trying to take over by [TS]

01:17:48   diverting all those billions of dollars [TS]

01:17:50   to build delray lindos worthless ship we [TS]

01:17:53   always really got to see what like the [TS]

01:17:54   aftermath like now we've seized control [TS]

01:17:56   of the world like this is this is a [TS]

01:17:58   communist conspiracy this is the real [TS]

01:17:59   sackler that's how they get you [TS]

01:18:01   maybe this was the Cold War all along [TS]

01:18:03   that right there trying to bankrupt the [TS]

01:18:04   US by making them think the Earth's core [TS]

01:18:06   and i think i'm giving too much credit [TS]

01:18:07   to this mood [TS]

01:18:08   I mean are you giving it any credit [TS]

01:18:09   that's you know that you're right you're [TS]

01:18:11   right positive massive credit nonzero [TS]

01:18:12   massive credit is a bad idea [TS]

01:18:14   I mean it's the it's the trope about big [TS]

01:18:16   weapons of mass destruction being [TS]

01:18:18   repurposed for good right I mean that's [TS]

01:18:20   the you know sure that's just the kind [TS]

01:18:22   of science fiction movie trope of you [TS]

01:18:24   know sort of washers when you win you [TS]

01:18:26   let the science get involved with with [TS]

01:18:28   military i mean because that comes up in [TS]

01:18:30   other movies right that's in sunshine [TS]

01:18:32   we're gonna restart the earth and the [TS]

01:18:33   sun by throwing during extended house [TS]

01:18:35   whatever whatever you got super and [TS]

01:18:37   regretted that and see you know [TS]

01:18:39   yeah in fact if we had Superman he could [TS]

01:18:41   just start the core spinning again [TS]

01:18:42   probably so i would really so but you [TS]

01:18:44   know there's only like seven movie plus [TS]

01:18:45   boy meets girl you know Gotye through [TS]

01:18:48   some hoops to the Sun for your birthday [TS]

01:18:50   stop screams stop spinning at your you [TS]

01:18:52   know I'm like just feed me nukes I'm [TS]

01:18:54   ready [TS]

01:18:55   you know core of a thousand faces what [TS]

01:18:57   do you want from me yeah I preferred it [TS]

01:18:58   when the the the core spinning part of [TS]

01:19:01   the odyssey though I thought that was [TS]

01:19:03   much more of a classic story than this [TS]

01:19:05   dispersion I i think the moment where r [TS]

01:19:10   where scientists Josh aaron eckhart puts [TS]

01:19:14   the fuel rods or way that was like a [TS]

01:19:15   star trek to kind of moment he's got the [TS]

01:19:17   burn hands like I sacrifice with those [TS]

01:19:20   answer her fine later but because you [TS]

01:19:22   are totally irradiated here [TS]

01:19:24   yeah he's not he's not good i mean like [TS]

01:19:26   you know that those RX hands he's got [TS]

01:19:28   yeah he's never liked it better but just [TS]

01:19:30   his hands though it doesn't it doesn't [TS]

01:19:31   matter i mean his hands are probably [TS]

01:19:33   burned off the rest of us just a little [TS]

01:19:35   cancer but it's okay i'm gonna die [TS]

01:19:36   they're very big there's no way out of [TS]

01:19:38   this situation so it's fine that he's [TS]

01:19:40   gonna die or anything [TS]

01:19:41   maybe in the core two he's a superhero [TS]

01:19:43   or super villain I definitely feelin so [TS]

01:19:47   anyway they're waiting to die he and [TS]

01:19:48   hilary swank easy she's taking off his [TS]

01:19:50   gloves and now he feels better and after [TS]

01:19:53   moving around six pounds of plutonium [TS]

01:19:54   and they're just hanging out waiting to [TS]

01:19:57   die because my notes say if this movie [TS]

01:20:00   made any success they be ok but in terms [TS]

01:20:02   of the mission but they don't be dead [TS]

01:20:03   down but nope we need like 20 more [TS]

01:20:05   minutes [TS]

01:20:06   so another idea which is we can use the [TS]

01:20:10   unobtanium power source that we sort of [TS]

01:20:13   wave their hands at an hour and a half [TS]

01:20:14   ago to drive the impeller but we won't [TS]

01:20:17   have the lasers [TS]

01:20:18   so we're just gonna have to serve our [TS]

01:20:19   way to the surface what in which case [TS]

01:20:21   why haven't we been doing that the whole [TS]

01:20:23   time I knew they were gonna have to [TS]

01:20:26   serve the way but i really wish that [TS]

01:20:27   they had harnessed the power of love [TS]

01:20:28   instead [TS]

01:20:29   well they harness the power of Wales and [TS]

01:20:30   that's like the next best thing that [TS]

01:20:31   love i did i did like Stanley cut to [TS]

01:20:33   stanley tucci recording his thoughts [TS]

01:20:35   into a tape recorder and he's like what [TS]

01:20:39   am i doing and then the whole thing [TS]

01:20:42   explodes and he dies but meanwhile cut [TS]

01:20:45   back to the other little pod that's left [TS]

01:20:47   and aaron eckhart in Hilary Swank are [TS]

01:20:49   like welding some wires onto a door or [TS]

01:20:51   something [TS]

01:20:51   it's traveling so seemingly dangerous [TS]

01:20:53   i'm sure it will be fine [TS]

01:20:56   it's ok there's a part where they had to [TS]

01:20:57   override a door they just pry something [TS]

01:20:59   over and there's like a breadboard it [TS]

01:21:00   because it's like you know liars [TS]

01:21:02   yeah that's what's inside site three [TS]

01:21:04   months again three months it's pretty [TS]

01:21:06   good for three months of the ship when [TS]

01:21:07   they they just completely redone the [TS]

01:21:09   power source on that entire ship in like [TS]

01:21:11   10 minutes with a little bit of water [TS]

01:21:12   with a hundred degrees inside and them [TS]

01:21:15   about to die so yeah that's pretty good [TS]

01:21:18   meanwhile though we have to cut we have [TS]

01:21:19   to come back to the service to see the [TS]

01:21:20   thing w effects of the core implosion [TS]

01:21:22   are being felt now for the rooty deep [TS]

01:21:25   lotion reap lotion i don't know all the [TS]

01:21:27   high school Howard there's clouds around [TS]

01:21:28   the eiffel tower there are some camels [TS]

01:21:30   in the desert there's a shock wave that [TS]

01:21:32   moves the sand around a little bit [TS]

01:21:35   ah yeah and that's pretty much it [TS]

01:21:38   16 hours later yeah I like the part [TS]

01:21:40   where they're like oh we can totally [TS]

01:21:42   surf this shockwave all the way back to [TS]

01:21:43   earth and it's like all sweet it's going [TS]

01:21:45   really great for like the five minutes [TS]

01:21:46   without 12 hours later on earth era [TS]

01:21:50   where on earth tent is that all the way [TS]

01:21:52   back to it they're actually in earth [TS]

01:21:53   first edition [TS]

01:21:55   the lights are out playing cards playing [TS]

01:21:57   a card game maybe on a crossword puzzle [TS]

01:21:58   like there's to pass the time while they [TS]

01:22:01   apparently straight through come on the [TS]

01:22:03   autopilot you know our pilot screen it's [TS]

01:22:06   a man stop playing pong [TS]

01:22:08   yeah yeah but somehow they are made they [TS]

01:22:10   managed to find a way to get up to the [TS]

01:22:12   surface to shallow water near Hawaii [TS]

01:22:16   entirely without laser where they're met [TS]

01:22:18   by the aircraft carrier which contains [TS]

01:22:19   the hacker person for some reason they [TS]

01:22:21   have gelled as a team amazingly they are [TS]

01:22:24   there's an entire like naval group that [TS]

01:22:27   is is sailing in the area where they [TS]

01:22:29   would have emerged and all the people [TS]

01:22:31   who were in the computer lab wherever it [TS]

01:22:33   was are now they fall flown to Hawaii [TS]

01:22:36   and on these ships but only just to give [TS]

01:22:39   up and be like up i guess we can't find [TS]

01:22:41   him a good thing they brought that [TS]

01:22:43   computer with them you have to get a [TS]

01:22:44   signal though it's but it's just wales [TS]

01:22:46   and whales don't know anything [TS]

01:22:48   as pointed out in the chat room in [TS]

01:22:50   accurately suggest that Hawaii is at the [TS]

01:22:52   edge of the plate when it's in the [TS]

01:22:54   center they basically get all our ocean [TS]

01:22:56   ocean to geology and geography mixed up [TS]

01:22:59   but whatever reason I was hoping to come [TS]

01:23:00   up through a volcano like yes it has [TS]

01:23:03   also had today too expensive i wanted [TS]

01:23:05   them to shoot out of like an erupting [TS]

01:23:08   volcano in Hawaii and like land on the [TS]

01:23:10   side of the of the mountain the mountain [TS]

01:23:12   and be like it could have been the new [TS]

01:23:14   tagline earth has it and we're gonna pop [TS]

01:23:17   that would have been awesome if they [TS]

01:23:19   will be very junior round of a of a [TS]

01:23:22   hawaii volcano and then like outcome [TS]

01:23:24   some lava and a ship and lands on the [TS]

01:23:27   beach and a surfer walks up to and goes [TS]

01:23:29   whoa what a ride dude [TS]

01:23:32   aaron eckhart could have said he has and [TS]

01:23:34   a high five and fire off some flare guns [TS]

01:23:37   and it's and and then they eat a pizza [TS]

01:23:40   so we've established that that Jason's [TS]

01:23:42   prefer bad movie is in the bad eighties [TS]

01:23:45   movies exclusively I think we were [TS]

01:23:47   already pretty clear on that one right [TS]

01:23:50   I'm sorry I'm sorry this movie was made [TS]

01:23:52   to this being saved by whales in the [TS]

01:23:54   shallow part of the ocean near Hawaii [TS]

01:23:56   instead of them coming up through a [TS]

01:23:58   volcano i think that would have been [TS]

01:23:59   more awesome anyway they the the [TS]

01:24:03   existence of the pod of orcas that is [TS]

01:24:06   not the one that jumps up in the air is [TS]

01:24:08   pretty awesome [TS]

01:24:08   right in front of the helicopter [TS]

01:24:10   whatever it is not the right whales they [TS]

01:24:12   do say well they're way off course yet [TS]

01:24:13   because they're not no no wrong Wales [TS]

01:24:16   but that but it's okay they'll send a [TS]

01:24:19   bunch of scuba divers with flippers [TS]

01:24:22   instead I was really holding a scuba [TS]

01:24:23   divers we're gonna swim down 800 feet [TS]

01:24:25   and get instead is surface that was like [TS]

01:24:28   oh come on do it do it they can swim the [TS]

01:24:29   200 feet it's fine [TS]

01:24:31   how do they even hook the cables on the [TS]

01:24:33   it's got all kinds of funny things they [TS]

01:24:35   already did that don't know how do you [TS]

01:24:37   get the cables down all the magnets [TS]

01:24:39   obviously ok magnets thank you okay so [TS]

01:24:41   that's what I wanted I just want a [TS]

01:24:42   simple answer like that [TS]

01:24:44   alright my neck and they work my next [TS]

01:24:46   one I'm not quite sure what this means [TS]

01:24:47   it's it's a OS it's things that they're [TS]

01:24:50   going to do I have my note is obscure [TS]

01:24:52   it's NASA pizza classroom but those are [TS]

01:24:55   the things they want to do hilary [TS]

01:24:56   swank's gonna go back to net NASA she's [TS]

01:24:58   gonna take a shower [TS]

01:24:59   see she has an art and take a shower [TS]

01:25:01   she's not just a one-dimensional [TS]

01:25:03   character that pilots the ship CS wants [TS]

01:25:05   and needs see as a person and aaron [TS]

01:25:07   eckhart once you eat pizza and go back [TS]

01:25:09   and teach in his classroom yeah that's [TS]

01:25:11   totally different than at the start of [TS]

01:25:12   the movie where he was teaching in a [TS]

01:25:13   classroom without beat yeah we never saw [TS]

01:25:16   me pizza [TS]

01:25:17   those kids were just left hanging at the [TS]

01:25:18   trumpet did you see him talking about a [TS]

01:25:20   trumpet I think not [TS]

01:25:21   that's an arc that's true you make a [TS]

01:25:22   good point strong argument Tony they [TS]

01:25:24   don't seem too broken up about their [TS]

01:25:25   whole team died except for them they [TS]

01:25:26   just kinda like what are you gonna do I [TS]

01:25:28   don't know just a bad 12 hours to grieve [TS]

01:25:30   yeah I remember those people on the ship [TS]

01:25:33   with us you have good times you know [TS]

01:25:35   what somebody really find out about [TS]

01:25:36   their their her heroism [TS]

01:25:38   yeah that the big you know the big [TS]

01:25:41   capper like like we care so much about [TS]

01:25:42   the world knowing about these people [TS]

01:25:44   like now don't really care about the [TS]

01:25:45   world know about these people [TS]

01:25:46   it is not the you know the little cherry [TS]

01:25:49   on top of this movie [TS]

01:25:50   what everybody else in the world think [TS]

01:25:52   was going on after the the same the [TS]

01:25:54   Golden Gate Bridge you he's not really [TS]

01:25:56   orbital wobble that's what the the ya-ya [TS]

01:25:59   navy guy says that that does cause the [TS]

01:26:01   Coliseum to explode in trouble so you [TS]

01:26:04   know like like well that was just that [TS]

01:26:05   was like it comes time to change the [TS]

01:26:07   season that sometimes the bridge [TS]

01:26:09   collapses it's very similar thing it's [TS]

01:26:11   just worth stuff don't want to swap gas [TS]

01:26:14   so i'm guessing so we get to our we get [TS]

01:26:16   our hacker kid to leaked the info so [TS]

01:26:18   that we can get I I really truly see [TS]

01:26:21   these heroes [TS]

01:26:22   how do you leaked information secretly [TS]

01:26:24   Edward Snowden here's the answer you go [TS]

01:26:26   to a cafe in lsi cyber cafe by myself [TS]

01:26:29   sorry cyber cafe in LA with big binders [TS]

01:26:32   with the big secret stickers on the [TS]

01:26:33   front paper binders I don't know is he's [TS]

01:26:35   gonna feed those through something [TS]

01:26:37   why does he have the big paper binders [TS]

01:26:39   you need to see something stamp [TS]

01:26:40   top-secret that's right he has to read [TS]

01:26:42   yesterday type them all [TS]

01:26:44   yeah you don't want to put your hot [TS]

01:26:45   pocket directly on the cafe no no so he [TS]

01:26:47   does he also has a hot pocket on top of [TS]

01:26:49   the big secret question so he's eating a [TS]

01:26:51   cold hotpokket hotpokket this is even [TS]

01:26:53   closer than I what I don't think that [TS]

01:26:55   was a hot pocket i think there was a [TS]

01:26:56   mcdonalds like no it's he establishes [TS]

01:26:58   its from the line earlier yeah it's Xena [TS]

01:27:00   tapes and hot pilot hi no but i'm saying [TS]

01:27:02   things actually that's a hot pocket [TS]

01:27:04   that's what they look like then I'm out [TS]

01:27:05   of touch with modern hotpokket [TS]

01:27:06   technology there's no such thing as [TS]

01:27:08   water for me just solid rocket [TS]

01:27:10   technology so they look at the apple [TS]

01:27:12   pies from mcdonalds that burn your mouth [TS]

01:27:14   yeah it's pretty much up for all we know [TS]

01:27:16   they couldn't get a hot pocket okay [TS]

01:27:18   no thanks like that painting is like a [TS]

01:27:20   great American race shield with rubber [TS]

01:27:23   pigeon it's an apple pie instead of a [TS]

01:27:24   hot pocket because i couldn't get it to [TS]

01:27:26   close behind cyber cafe and upload [TS]

01:27:28   everything with a very slow progress bar [TS]

01:27:30   that includes the phrase on its way with [TS]

01:27:32   the apostrophe in the wrong place my god [TS]

01:27:35   I killed me a killer on the wrong [TS]

01:27:37   apostrophe s way that is a character [TS]

01:27:39   error not a film there is no apostrophe [TS]

01:27:41   their rat hacker kid anyway that hacker [TS]

01:27:46   guy was then immediately arrested and [TS]

01:27:47   put in Guantanamo Bay as far as i know [TS]

01:27:49   he's lost lost a lot of hacker credit [TS]

01:27:52   for using a word document feel like [TS]

01:27:54   that's a demerit well you know he had to [TS]

01:27:57   scan in all those things from the [TS]

01:27:59   binders and that's the end of the movie [TS]

01:28:01   guys forgot because if you just in case [TS]

01:28:04   you're not jazzed up enough by this [TS]

01:28:06   movie guess what we have an awesome rock [TS]

01:28:08   song and some computer graphic letters [TS]

01:28:11   for the credits that look like they were [TS]

01:28:12   made in 984 I stop this [TS]

01:28:15   you got to know all the credit you want [TS]

01:28:18   to know all the names of the people were [TS]

01:28:20   involved in this travesty is on saying [TS]

01:28:22   those things are going to be huge and [TS]

01:28:23   front and center and boy they are so now [TS]

01:28:26   really get you going they are proud of [TS]

01:28:28   what they've done [TS]

01:28:28   jon amiel who directed this directed The [TS]

01:28:31   Singing Detective which is a wonderful [TS]

01:28:32   british TV mini-series written by Dennis [TS]

01:28:36   potter and starring michael gambon that [TS]

01:28:39   i highly recommend to people and I and [TS]

01:28:43   then he also made the core so that he [TS]

01:28:46   made a man who knew too little which i [TS]

01:28:47   kinda like actually the Bill Murray [TS]

01:28:49   movie but then he made the core so [TS]

01:28:51   that's not what that's pretty much the [TS]

01:28:54   death sentence for him [TS]

01:28:56   I don't know these yeah they put him in [TS]

01:28:58   a pod rejected that pod and watch the [TS]

01:29:00   crumpled man so so what do we think Tony [TS]

01:29:06   I'm gonna start with you i'm going to [TS]

01:29:07   survey the the panelists about what we [TS]

01:29:11   thought of this movie and and how you [TS]

01:29:12   would rate it not using anything that [TS]

01:29:15   you might hear on like another podcast [TS]

01:29:17   about bad movies do you want to [TS]

01:29:19   institute a new rating system just like [TS]

01:29:21   like three smells or something I'll [TS]

01:29:23   remember it well Tony I would like to [TS]

01:29:24   know from you you seem to actually [TS]

01:29:26   appreciate this movie so I guess you [TS]

01:29:29   would say that all I don't put words in [TS]

01:29:32   your mouth you usually you usually the [TS]

01:29:34   prosecution goes first and just say it [TS]

01:29:35   would you would you know I want you to [TS]

01:29:37   explain yourself here why do you why do [TS]

01:29:40   you actually want to defend this is a [TS]

01:29:42   and enjoyable bad movie [TS]

01:29:44   oh yeah i think this is an enjoyable mad [TS]

01:29:46   movie I mean there's not a lot of [TS]

01:29:49   substance to this movie and I don't [TS]

01:29:50   think it pretends to have a lot of [TS]

01:29:51   substances there's not really any even [TS]

01:29:53   like kind of gaps for you to it you know [TS]

01:29:56   stop and appreciate or think about [TS]

01:29:57   anything it's just explosion dialogue [TS]

01:30:00   CGI effect explosion dialogue cgi of [TS]

01:30:03   packages up yet pigeons which are [TS]

01:30:05   spoiler cgi FM um you know I have seen [TS]

01:30:09   this movie four times I can't tell you [TS]

01:30:11   the names of any of the characters i'm [TS]

01:30:13   not sure why it's two hours 14 minutes [TS]

01:30:15   that's all we got [TS]

01:30:17   I did positive fighters like there's 15 [TS]

01:30:19   minutes left in this movie don't get on [TS]

01:30:21   the ship until it's 55 is not a great [TS]

01:30:23   movie [TS]

01:30:24   it's not be the best movie I've seen [TS]

01:30:25   this week but we could agree [TS]

01:30:28   uh-uh it's a movie [TS]

01:30:29   in 2003 about being going to the center [TS]

01:30:31   of the earth [TS]

01:30:32   I think it's a fun bad movie um I mean I [TS]

01:30:35   think it's stupid and I don't think it [TS]

01:30:36   takes itself too seriously and this is [TS]

01:30:38   the kind of bad movie that I like [TS]

01:30:40   watching there's not i mean you compare [TS]

01:30:42   this to a lot of the you know the really [TS]

01:30:44   bad stuff and that they feature on mst3k [TS]

01:30:46   we're like I think the hallmark of mst3k [TS]

01:30:48   bad movies is you know that they make [TS]

01:30:50   funny with their their their comedy but [TS]

01:30:52   uh is long scenes of people driving [TS]

01:30:54   places we don't have a lot of that we [TS]

01:30:56   have like 10 seconds if you're going [TS]

01:30:57   through your score and there's someone [TS]

01:30:58   in the house be able to drive traffic to [TS]

01:31:00   the core [TS]

01:31:01   that's what if not about the journey [TS]

01:31:03   it's about the desk space i know to me [TS]

01:31:08   this is this is one of the best bad [TS]

01:31:11   movies I've seen this movie four times [TS]

01:31:13   I've seen this movie [TS]

01:31:15   I you know I saw this week I'd seen it [TS]

01:31:18   at least in the last two years I've seen [TS]

01:31:20   it several times i think it's stupid and [TS]

01:31:22   doesn't take itself seriously um I think [TS]

01:31:24   it's my favorite of the very narrow [TS]

01:31:26   genre of bad disaster movies and I don't [TS]

01:31:29   know if you guys have others they may [TS]

01:31:30   prefer then like armageddon and time [TS]

01:31:33   again deep impact 2012 which I think [TS]

01:31:35   it's awful but you know there's another [TS]

01:31:38   format movie [TS]

01:31:39   yeah all i think it is the best of all [TS]

01:31:41   of those are in terms of a it keeps [TS]

01:31:44   things moving [TS]

01:31:45   you know it's just interesting enough [TS]

01:31:47   but like yeah i mean this is not i'm not [TS]

01:31:48   suggesting this is a good movie [TS]

01:31:50   I'm suggesting it's a good bad movie [TS]

01:31:52   it's not about the story is not about [TS]

01:31:53   the character it's about amusing [TS]

01:31:55   flashing lights that you look at with [TS]

01:31:57   your eyes [TS]

01:31:58   did you see knowing i don't think i've [TS]

01:32:00   seen know that you should if you throw [TS]

01:32:02   that in your name to a bunch of bad [TS]

01:32:04   disaster movies I think knowing has a [TS]

01:32:06   little special something that you might [TS]

01:32:09   might enjoy and that something is named [TS]

01:32:11   nicolas cage I and that's usually where [TS]

01:32:14   i stopped working toward a visit to [TS]

01:32:17   start going the other way just but i did [TS]

01:32:19   Roger Nicolas Cage movie this week it [TS]

01:32:21   was probably better the clip let's just [TS]

01:32:22   say that it is it is one of one of more [TS]

01:32:25   than one movie where Nicholas Cage has [TS]

01:32:27   knowledge of future events [TS]

01:32:30   yeah it's hard to believe but also [TS]

01:32:33   really one called did the numbers or [TS]

01:32:36   next nast yeah he will be in anything [TS]

01:32:40   yeah was this was this actually [TS]

01:32:43   released in theaters knowing oh yes oh [TS]

01:32:45   yes I remember the commercials and there [TS]

01:32:47   are people who defend the movie as an [TS]

01:32:49   actual good movie so that if you need [TS]

01:32:50   well that's preposterous [TS]

01:32:51   well i'll check that out and if i don't [TS]

01:32:56   like it i will never watch anything John [TS]

01:33:00   syracuse recommends again oh I think [TS]

01:33:02   this is not a good movie about your [TS]

01:33:03   listing bad disaster movies and you said [TS]

01:33:05   this was your favorite bad disaster [TS]

01:33:07   movie is actually I'm looking at the [TS]

01:33:08   director of The Crow Dark City yeah what [TS]

01:33:11   is good girls i've seen so there is a [TS]

01:33:14   out there [TS]

01:33:15   yeah I mean yeah I mean I don't I don't [TS]

01:33:18   like the trajectory those are and i made [TS]

01:33:19   have negative Cajun it like you know you [TS]

01:33:22   know what you're in for i think yeah you [TS]

01:33:25   know I don't know I watched a faceoff [TS]

01:33:26   earlier this week you know which is a [TS]

01:33:28   John Woo nicolas cage but yeah that's [TS]

01:33:30   all that's what makes my like me [TS]

01:33:33   yeah i mean i-i think that maybe a high [TS]

01:33:35   water mark for movies that have nicolas [TS]

01:33:37   cage in the mile and john travolta i [TS]

01:33:39   have I haven't done the math so I don't [TS]

01:33:41   think of raising arizona oh you're right [TS]

01:33:43   so that is that I rice wraps the rock [TS]

01:33:46   yeah we're not here to talk about [TS]

01:33:48   Nicolas Cage because he was not in [TS]

01:33:50   bacoor although imagine that oh my that [TS]

01:33:52   would have that would have helped a lot [TS]

01:33:53   oh man good i don't that is not what [TS]

01:33:56   helped looks like sir I damn damn what's [TS]

01:33:59   your what's your verdict on the core is [TS]

01:34:01   a movie that I've seen [TS]

01:34:02   yep now check got nothing else alright [TS]

01:34:07   uh no I a beauty I grew Tony it's not [TS]

01:34:10   the worst bad movie I've seen that title [TS]

01:34:12   as I think still held by mortal kombat [TS]

01:34:14   annihilation i have seen a hundred [TS]

01:34:16   movies worse than this movie I just want [TS]

01:34:19   to be clear [TS]

01:34:19   yeah so I I you know so there's the [TS]

01:34:22   thing about we said it's like a [TS]

01:34:23   paint-by-numbers movie and it is and [TS]

01:34:25   there's something comforting in that is [TS]

01:34:26   like I know exactly what's gonna happen [TS]

01:34:27   everything right beer [TS]

01:34:29   it's like you realize oh I have [TS]

01:34:31   internalized the structure Mary [TS]

01:34:34   Hollywood action movie completely [TS]

01:34:36   because it isn't every boss that except [TS]

01:34:40   for maybe that that aaron eckhart and [TS]

01:34:43   Hilary Swank don't like explicitly get [TS]

01:34:45   together at the end of the film like is [TS]

01:34:47   there like like they kiss at one point [TS]

01:34:49   sling just like those are happy like to [TS]

01:34:51   survive but like they didn't throw in [TS]

01:34:52   the gratuitous love story thing I feel [TS]

01:34:55   like that might be the only like [TS]

01:34:56   clichĂ© narrative convention that we [TS]

01:34:58   really lacked here so maybe there [TS]

01:35:01   there's something in the quarter [TS]

01:35:02   surprised even me John your thoughts so [TS]

01:35:06   I've seen most of those bad disaster [TS]

01:35:08   movies are listed Armageddon deep impact [TS]

01:35:09   day after tomorrow 2012 and maybe it's [TS]

01:35:12   because I haven't seen them recently [TS]

01:35:13   enough although 2000 that is it 2012 is [TS]

01:35:16   fairly recent but the thing that really [TS]

01:35:18   blew me away about this movie or two [TS]

01:35:21   parts of one the general blandness of [TS]

01:35:25   the scenes and it what that means when [TS]

01:35:28   you're watching a bad movie is like well [TS]

01:35:30   the dialogue here is not totally [TS]

01:35:32   embarrassing [TS]

01:35:33   it seems kind of self-aware like what I [TS]

01:35:35   was thinking is like comparing it to you [TS]

01:35:37   know other movies that I've seen far [TS]

01:35:39   worse in many different ways the actors [TS]

01:35:40   in this movie not the worst actors in [TS]

01:35:42   the world their performances not great [TS]

01:35:44   but they're just it was kind of like [TS]

01:35:46   bland and what I'm looking for in a bad [TS]

01:35:49   movie now that i'm really looking for [TS]

01:35:50   anything I don't like bad movies in [TS]

01:35:51   general but if if I'm going to enjoy it [TS]

01:35:53   as a like boy is this ridiculous [TS]

01:35:56   someone needs to go the the movie needs [TS]

01:35:59   to go more over-the-top and this was [TS]

01:36:00   kind of bland the second thing that [TS]

01:36:01   struck me about it is how much worse [TS]

01:36:04   like the sort of the basic stuff about [TS]

01:36:06   the movie was the soundtrack stands out [TS]

01:36:08   really strongly because it is but so [TS]

01:36:10   sort of 30 if you had them making a [TS]

01:36:13   movie inside a movie and they showed the [TS]

01:36:15   soundtrack when they were like looking [TS]

01:36:16   at the footage of the movie they're [TS]

01:36:17   making inside the moving like a comedy [TS]

01:36:19   this is the soundtrack it would have [TS]

01:36:20   super generic really cliche like just [TS]

01:36:25   just embarrassing the same thing with [TS]

01:36:27   the voiceovers and just every scene with [TS]

01:36:29   CGI the way everything was shot it was [TS]

01:36:31   just it was just like down a notch from [TS]

01:36:34   just like how can I kept looking at the [TS]

01:36:36   year of the movie 2003 like yeah it [TS]

01:36:38   looks it looks so much worse than I [TS]

01:36:40   thought it should for the period and [TS]

01:36:42   it's like okay so finally we looked like [TS]

01:36:44   you shouldn't really doing it for that [TS]

01:36:45   because if it was if it was like [TS]

01:36:47   over-the-top and bad in other ways i [TS]

01:36:50   think it would have enjoyed it more but [TS]

01:36:51   it just it was when i was kinda bored by [TS]

01:36:54   it like and you know again it's because [TS]

01:36:57   maybe the performances in the writing [TS]

01:36:58   were not crazy enough like they weren't [TS]

01:37:02   they weren't willing to embrace the idea [TS]

01:37:03   that what they were making here was a [TS]

01:37:05   bad [TS]

01:37:05   movies that they just made like it just [TS]

01:37:07   kind of laid there and it was like I was [TS]

01:37:09   just bored by it and that there was no [TS]

01:37:11   character i was excited about seeing [TS]

01:37:12   shoot scenery there was no event that i [TS]

01:37:15   saw that i was excited to see like [TS]

01:37:17   everything even the pigeons early on [TS]

01:37:19   like more of that would have been better [TS]

01:37:20   because once they're tunneling with that [TS]

01:37:22   stupid thing is just so dire and take [TS]

01:37:24   itself seriously and I i just i did not [TS]

01:37:27   enjoy if 2012 came back on TV I feel [TS]

01:37:30   like I would watch it just to see the [TS]

01:37:31   radicalization same thing with deep [TS]

01:37:32   impact and Armageddon both of which i [TS]

01:37:34   think i've seen multiple times in [TS]

01:37:35   various pieces but this came on TV again [TS]

01:37:37   I would never stay on a channel i would [TS]

01:37:38   I just like to remind you guys of some [TS]

01:37:40   of the other movies that came out in [TS]

01:37:42   2003 which I know was a long time ago [TS]

01:37:44   and there are some good movies in 2003 [TS]

01:37:46   but I i would suggest is not even the [TS]

01:37:48   worst movie of 2003 because he doesn't [TS]

01:37:51   fit three features such things as the [TS]

01:37:52   angley's the Hulk [TS]

01:37:54   oh I like that guy thats easily that's [TS]

01:37:57   that's attractive it was not a good [TS]

01:37:58   movie but I liked it was it was more [TS]

01:38:00   extremely now we simply at evidence a [TS]

01:38:03   evidence be the League of Extraordinary [TS]

01:38:05   Gentlemen movie can't say well let your [TS]

01:38:10   unit you're missing out on a movie that [TS]

01:38:12   it's that it's called that those before [TS]

01:38:14   they figured out how to do superhero [TS]

01:38:16   comic book movies right [TS]

01:38:17   oh yes well be that segues directly into [TS]

01:38:20   evidence see the daredevil movie [TS]

01:38:22   Oh multicare double the the daredevil [TS]

01:38:25   movie might be better no yes better than [TS]

01:38:27   this it might be better to Michael and I [TS]

01:38:29   have not gone back to it i only saw it [TS]

01:38:31   once in the theaters that was enough [TS]

01:38:33   yeah we also the classic from 2003 which [TS]

01:38:36   might be better than this 2 fast 2 [TS]

01:38:37   furious so you know best name movie [TS]

01:38:40   sequel ever i think we can all agree I i [TS]

01:38:43   think this i'm kinda with John on this [TS]

01:38:47   that I feel like this was not quite [TS]

01:38:48   ridiculous enough like like deep impact [TS]

01:38:50   like I can watch that just to watch the [TS]

01:38:52   the backpedaling of Morgan Freeman as [TS]

01:38:57   the president where he always comes on [TS]

01:38:58   to reassure people that everybody's [TS]

01:39:02   going to be okay and then because comes [TS]

01:39:03   on again this is ok that thing I said [TS]

01:39:04   before that turned out to be totally [TS]

01:39:06   false but this next they are reassuring [TS]

01:39:08   so reassuring and so wrong until the [TS]

01:39:11   last his last dresses like there's a [TS]

01:39:12   system of caves we're gonna hide the [TS]

01:39:14   casing [TS]

01:39:15   just click right now where the games are [TS]

01:39:17   you're not gonna be night and I was [TS]

01:39:19   thinking about that movie and how I saw [TS]

01:39:21   in the movie theater and how I remember [TS]

01:39:23   too much of it on this [TS]

01:39:25   that's always photo right yep yeah the [TS]

01:39:27   legend was when they were is escapes by [TS]

01:39:30   climbing uphill slightly faster [TS]

01:39:31   yes right like a motorcycle downhill at [TS]

01:39:34   some point or something I ever i was [TS]

01:39:36   gonna say the number of people in the [TS]

01:39:37   court who have made other very good [TS]

01:39:40   movies is a sounding to me because not [TS]

01:39:43   only do you have aaron eckhart and [TS]

01:39:45   hilary swank and stanley tucci you've [TS]

01:39:47   got like Delaware liberals but younger [TS]

01:39:49   great movies [TS]

01:39:50   alfre woodard in a terribly miss Eugenia [TS]

01:39:53   we didn't even mention her she has just [TS]

01:39:54   gotten do I i will say having recently [TS]

01:39:57   seen i Frankenstein aaron eckhart yeah [TS]

01:39:59   does not make good choices all I could [TS]

01:40:01   think about it that's what excuse she [TS]

01:40:03   did a fantastic Daily Show interview at [TS]

01:40:05   some point where I think he's probably [TS]

01:40:06   high it's kind of hilarious and who else [TS]

01:40:10   was in there 0 ID so DJ Qualls i would [TS]

01:40:13   say has made good movies but yeah I [TS]

01:40:15   could do a goodwill run on supernatural [TS]

01:40:16   where he was very funny he was in movies [TS]

01:40:18   he's is he still in stuff as he is he [TS]

01:40:20   gonna surround is right there's like a [TS]

01:40:22   weird story about him where he had [TS]

01:40:24   like.he I I think he was diagnosed with [TS]

01:40:27   something that might have been terminal [TS]

01:40:28   like as a as a young kid and so he spent [TS]

01:40:31   like his entire youth in hospitals and [TS]

01:40:33   then he got better and he was like 19 [TS]

01:40:35   just like what job can i do with zero [TS]

01:40:38   training and having knock on high school [TS]

01:40:39   and they're like how about a tactic [TS]

01:40:41   it's like and that's where the court [TS]

01:40:42   came from pastor he did he was diagnosed [TS]

01:40:44   a good [TS]

01:40:45   according to wikipedia you diagnosed [TS]

01:40:46   with Hodgkin's lymphoma age 14 and got [TS]

01:40:48   better and that's a story of milk or [TS]

01:40:51   alright but I with john III thought this [TS]

01:40:55   book was all too boring and i would [TS]

01:40:56   rather watch something that was even [TS]

01:40:57   more even something like armageddon [TS]

01:41:00   which I just think it's ridiculous [TS]

01:41:02   Aerosmith songs the cheesy romance well [TS]

01:41:05   that it's bruce willis sailor singing [TS]

01:41:07   listen listen listen mr. president I'm [TS]

01:41:10   gonna ignore what you say because I [TS]

01:41:11   promised my little girl and their oil [TS]

01:41:13   drillers and they're macho man [TS]

01:41:16   yeah Ben Affleck is you know it's [TS]

01:41:18   terrible but it's ridiculous that like [TS]

01:41:20   this soon and it's so it's so broad and [TS]

01:41:23   ridiculous and over-the-top and doesn't [TS]

01:41:26   really take itself seriously accepting [TS]

01:41:28   sort of macho gung-ho USA all oil [TS]

01:41:30   drillers rule that you know that that's [TS]

01:41:34   what we're going to do real John easy to [TS]

01:41:35   and and deep impact like the they try to [TS]

01:41:39   get people are psychic who's the lead in [TS]

01:41:41   that the woman is at a Lyon ay-ya-ya [TS]

01:41:43   show and she like reconciled with your [TS]

01:41:45   father on the beach and the tidal wave [TS]

01:41:47   comes and hits or at least they gave [TS]

01:41:48   those people story and it has an end you [TS]

01:41:51   know kind of a point and end or whatever [TS]

01:41:52   then further runs away from whatever [TS]

01:41:54   like it's it's kind of a mess but i [TS]

01:41:57   think they managed to deepen back was [TS]

01:41:59   going like as the title suggests for [TS]

01:42:00   more dramatic thing and Armageddon was [TS]

01:42:02   going for you know explosions in macho [TS]

01:42:05   and the core was just kind of like that [TS]

01:42:08   yeah i don't i just i just finished [TS]

01:42:10   skimming a wikipedia lists of like the [TS]

01:42:12   first 300 movies from 2003 and I'm just [TS]

01:42:16   gonna say most of these are worse than [TS]

01:42:17   the core there are some other a lot [TS]

01:42:19   better that come on Jason made us watch [TS]

01:42:21   the core yeah this is true that I didn't [TS]

01:42:23   see their devil or a lot of movies so [TS]

01:42:25   now it's time for our listeners may help [TS]

01:42:28   no we don't have that that's not what [TS]

01:42:29   are you the same day simply not gonna [TS]

01:42:31   sing a letter song that's also not gonna [TS]

01:42:33   happen [TS]

01:42:33   that's how we can Sudan the first essay [TS]

01:42:35   can't sing a lot of songs busy as [TS]

01:42:37   established you can carry a tune so use [TS]

01:42:38   this quite that's good letters yeah you [TS]

01:42:41   can't do it I can't do it now we we love [TS]

01:42:44   the flophouse and and what we're trying [TS]

01:42:46   to do here is not do the floor we're not [TS]

01:42:48   going to do like new releases that just [TS]

01:42:49   came out of the video and all that we're [TS]

01:42:51   going to try to have them all be sort of [TS]

01:42:52   science science fiction aliso anyway [TS]

01:42:54   here's a here for your listeners out [TS]

01:42:56   there [TS]

01:42:57   we're going to tell you what the next [TS]

01:42:58   movie is that we're gonna watch i'm not [TS]

01:43:00   suggesting that you go watch this and [TS]

01:43:02   subject yourself to it we just watched [TS]

01:43:04   the core for pete's sake but if you [TS]

01:43:06   would like to know what's coming next [TS]

01:43:08   here it is it's 1984 Tony compile a list [TS]

01:43:11   of films made many for that are worse [TS]

01:43:13   than the ice pirates no movie enforcing [TS]

01:43:15   the ice pirates [TS]

01:43:16   I've gotta do is write about this I have [TS]

01:43:19   fond memories of really liking the movie [TS]

01:43:21   but I have also not seen it probably [TS]

01:43:23   since the eighties so I don't know what [TS]

01:43:25   I'm in for [TS]

01:43:26   I don't think I've seen it since the the [TS]

01:43:27   nineties i couldn't get past the sea [TS]

01:43:29   with the bear trap that castrate people [TS]

01:43:31   that started off well remind have no [TS]

01:43:35   ring forward to that any movie starring [TS]

01:43:37   Robert Urich is my no you're being funny [TS]

01:43:39   and it was on TV a lot like and this is [TS]

01:43:41   gonna be sacrilegious but I lump in my [TS]

01:43:43   memory with like big trouble in little [TS]

01:43:45   china which as I understand it still [TS]

01:43:47   stands up as a movie that is bad that [TS]

01:43:49   you can actually enjoy but i have no [TS]

01:43:51   idea what I start its gonna be like well [TS]

01:43:52   we'll find out next time with until then [TS]

01:43:54   it's time to close up the old mailbag [TS]

01:43:57   when I don't even know and say goodbye [TS]

01:43:59   thank you everybody out there and thank [TS]

01:44:01   you too to everybody here i have been [TS]

01:44:04   and continue to be your friend Jason [TS]

01:44:07   snow i hope that i'm still dan moore and [TS]

01:44:10   after having watched this movie i'm [TS]

01:44:12   always Tony similar i watch the movie 2 [TS]

01:44:14   i'm john [TS]
