106: ‘Star Wars Holiday Spectacular’, With Guests John Siracusa and Guy English

00:00:14   so I don't know how else can I don't live when the last time I've had more [TS]

00:00:19   than one person on the show probably more I was on stage wbez work out a deal [TS]

00:00:24   with you can be able yeah that's right [TS]

00:00:27   john-john abducted my my basic just though is shouldn't star wars for two [TS]

00:00:36   hours [TS]

00:00:36   movies you know what's funny before you decide to do the christmas spectacular [TS]

00:00:42   again this year [TS]

00:00:44   ship them actually have again I thought about and it's actually scrupulous and [TS]

00:00:50   it's actually circus well that's when it is here we are making up for last year [TS]

00:00:54   where it was a total sham and surprising amount of email from people who told me [TS]

00:01:01   that we must have screwed up the editing because we cut it off before Gianmarco [TS]

00:01:05   made it on lemme they were a little bit in the back of the stage no driving home [TS]

00:01:16   in there so I have you guys done John year on the incomparable semi frequently [TS]

00:01:24   frequently semi frequently have you done Star Wars on the incomparable [TS]

00:01:30   I don't let anybody shows now I we have done all of the Star Wars movies the [TS]

00:01:39   original Star Wars movies and we've done so 21 into the prequels and we did with [TS]

00:01:44   the Star Wars Holiday Special [TS]

00:01:48   see I've never seen that guy have you seen the Star Wars Holiday Special no I [TS]

00:01:52   don't especially after listening to the content don't thought I'd I feel exactly [TS]

00:01:58   the same way you do for the team their next watches yeah I can possibly avoid [TS]

00:02:05   the jasons revenge for me making him watch like hours and hours of anime [TS]

00:02:09   play video games special a couple of years ago one of the sites published a [TS]

00:02:15   like what they call now explain Ernst you know like this concept of an [TS]

00:02:20   explainer which I kind of like it's sort of like a blog post crossed with like [TS]

00:02:25   Wikipedia entry is an exercise tried to think pretending word explainer doesn't [TS]

00:02:31   exist and then try to think of another phrase or summary description of what we [TS]

00:02:37   now know as unexplained because whenever I do and I come up with something that's [TS]

00:02:42   insulting what would it be I'm not treated outside I mean I like this for [TS]

00:02:49   dummies things are never let me simplify this to the point where it seems [TS]

00:02:53   understandable but what you're actually coming away from the article with is not [TS]

00:02:57   a true understanding of the subject because really complicated let me take a [TS]

00:03:01   complicated thing and make it really simple let me like you just don't know [TS]

00:03:05   explain errors I i understand why you but some people are attracted to the [TS]

00:03:09   concept but the actual articles I've read that are described as explainer is [TS]

00:03:13   just leave me angry over you may be a good summary executive summary overview [TS]

00:03:19   like it does not much I don't know whenever I read something that's [TS]

00:03:23   described as an explainer is just like you know like it is an article in the [TS]

00:03:29   Atlantic something nobody calls it an explainer an article supposed to explain [TS]

00:03:33   things once you call it an explainer that's like code 404 not actually get [TS]

00:03:37   you the real and unreasonably angry about explainer gone well I remember I [TS]

00:03:42   appreciated with someone from fox.com on it was Benghazi or one of these things [TS]

00:03:51   where it seemed like I would have had to read 20 articles to catch up and it [TS]

00:03:56   didn't make any sense and I read their quote unquote explainer and it kind of [TS]

00:04:01   figured I figured the whole thing out because you know in the just and explain [TS]

00:04:05   their they're like this is really nothing it's really just political shit [TS]

00:04:09   but it is called it the news the Euro watching it would tell you a summary of [TS]

00:04:13   what's going on [TS]

00:04:14   and well anyway somebody wrote an explainer on the Star Wars Holiday [TS]

00:04:18   Special and had just enough screencaps where I was like holy cow it really is [TS]

00:04:23   worse than the terrible reputation would have you believe and so I knew I never [TS]

00:04:27   had to watch and not only that as I said in income people think it's not even the [TS]

00:04:31   type of thing if you care about stories that are all that you can watch and be [TS]

00:04:34   like high level does it so bad you know i mean you can't even do that it's just [TS]

00:04:38   it's just bad just not fun not interesting that you care about two [TS]

00:04:42   hours and it was shocking video camera shot at least so we're having a holiday [TS]

00:04:51   special we're talking about stars but it has nothing to do with the store ways [TS]

00:04:54   Star Wars Holiday Spectacular whatever they called it not yet at least alright [TS]

00:05:02   and also I only want to talk about the movies the whole expanded university as [TS]

00:05:07   a pilot crap as far as I'm concerned [TS]

00:05:10   cartoons as much but I don't they're different thing like yours give the [TS]

00:05:15   movies are like a good steak dinner they're gonna get beef jerky that you'd [TS]

00:05:18   buy their meat but you know I'm not really same kind of thing I have you [TS]

00:05:25   watched all of the cartoons clone wars and now the Star Wars rebels and there's [TS]

00:05:31   some there's some things to commend them to Sun star was a stuff but I don't see [TS]

00:05:38   how they could possibly fit into the story to the movies chillin in any [TS]

00:05:42   sensible way I mean you know but you know if they let a traditional sense [TS]

00:05:53   where it's like a TV show out of the movies and it's in the same universe and [TS]

00:05:57   at the same time line but there's no specific expectation that they feel are [TS]

00:06:04   behaving as I like the movie because they're not there and animated [TS]

00:06:07   television show as opposed to movies and for what they're actually pretty decent [TS]

00:06:13   wasn't the original premise for Star Wars rebels though [TS]

00:06:16   that it would be live action but there was the talk of a live-action Star Wars [TS]

00:06:21   TV series very long time ago [TS]

00:06:24   round by the time I think the prequels of either in the process of being made [TS]

00:06:27   before they were made and that seemed to fall by the wayside it just didn't it [TS]

00:06:31   didn't didn't work out for whatever reason they forget the actual situation [TS]

00:06:34   was and more recently ever heard the idea of it coming back up again I'm not [TS]

00:06:40   opposed to such a thing I think it would be cool but the Clone Wars the computer [TS]

00:06:45   anyone with kind of weird because there was another animated thing called the [TS]

00:06:50   Clone Wars there was so animated as opposed to CG and the Great Mall them [TS]

00:06:58   very different stylistic choices than the movie wait when was this round by [TS]

00:07:03   round about the time of maybe I guess episode 2 or something it was so [TS]

00:07:08   animated Disney for episode two very stylized kind of like Samurai Jack [TS]

00:07:12   Antonoff was the same guy that said it was the same game and it was great and [TS]

00:07:16   you know what it ends with it ends with the opening scene from episode to the [TS]

00:07:24   end of that are that animation art ends with the invasion of the result [TS]

00:07:29   encouragement from the bridges grievances gives his army shows up and [TS]

00:07:35   that's the did you finally get one or the CD one where you learn why General [TS]

00:07:43   Grievous is always in everything she says she'll say that the Showa shell [TS]

00:07:48   shaded so these things about how come I'm not aware of this how can that kind [TS]

00:07:54   of the right age I don't associate of mine I don't know I don't think john was [TS]

00:07:57   born yet but also that he wasn't it certainly wasn't as big as my what was [TS]

00:08:03   it called and I think well here's the thing I think you actually had to be a [TS]

00:08:09   bit of an animation urged to get into it were to hear about it that's great did [TS]

00:08:14   you know from whence the movies came but they do you think I'm gonna be able to [TS]

00:08:21   get these are night [TS]

00:08:23   I would have found the right acct Clone Wars has got to be available oh yes eg [TS]

00:08:28   is i've i've seen i i i to him I'm completely caught up [TS]

00:08:32   seen every episode of The Clone Wars saw the theatrical release which is really [TS]

00:08:37   just a two-hour episode of the TV show and just recently caught up Jonas and I [TS]

00:08:43   caught up on the I think there's only seven episodes of Star Wars we're just [TS]

00:08:47   talking to Lisa well if that's the case then I like the way that the rebels TV [TS]

00:08:53   show is doesn't feature any of the characters from the feature films yet [TS]

00:08:58   but it's very clearly in the world and its creeping up on a new hope [TS]

00:09:01   timeline so you start seeing typewriters look like Thai fighters and you know [TS]

00:09:04   kind of rebels in the empire in more or less the shapes that you would've [TS]

00:09:09   expected but it's a totally different thing it's a different cast of [TS]

00:09:12   characters doing different things within the same university and it's a there's a [TS]

00:09:16   bit of a sorry there's a bit of awareness in it [TS]

00:09:21   jenna is running around where is it as a new hope you know that there's at least [TS]

00:09:26   two believes it is no other time in hiding I mean you have a Star Wars show [TS]

00:09:30   it's a good idea to have some citizens and lightsabers oh yeah it in terms of [TS]

00:09:35   the narrative device yes for sure but I mean it kind of goes against what we [TS]

00:09:38   heard last year yeah that's what it says on his deathbed and there are no way is [TS]

00:09:44   it empire is a Return of the Jedi when he's dying might be Return of the Jedi [TS]

00:09:47   when he's dying and he says something to the effect of you know in 10 seconds [TS]

00:09:52   from now when I dot last at the Jedi you will be [TS]

00:09:56   here last edited so I there something new that I have to learn but I don't [TS]

00:10:09   know my way around the underground internet so now and get these sell any [TS]

00:10:14   QuickTime movies they're probably like 320 by 240 [TS]

00:10:22   I'll remember when that was the big size I remember when 160 120 was was the [TS]

00:10:30   regular so it's set up a compression is high fidelity that's a look great I'm [TS]

00:10:37   surprised that that wasn't like a bigger deal anyway and what I understand is [TS]

00:10:43   with the Disney purchase of Lucasfilm in the archive night I mention this with [TS]

00:10:48   West Coast a couple weeks ago that there there marlys saying with this movie [TS]

00:10:52   all those novels and should that you've been reading for twenty years that all [TS]

00:10:55   out the door we are not looking at any of that and you know that Canada anymore [TS]

00:11:00   they have to do that because they're going to make it run illogically after [TS]

00:11:04   Return of the Jedi the expanding universe is like told all those stories [TS]

00:11:07   like 20 times over let me know what happens to all the characters that we [TS]

00:11:10   love this whole other bad guys and good guys and like they just run it out [TS]

00:11:14   safely you can't put anything chronologically after July unless you [TS]

00:11:17   either do exactly what happened in the books which probably a bad idea or put [TS]

00:11:21   it way way way past where the books go or something then say okay it's the [TS]

00:11:24   distant distant its way better so I was always called expanded I think this is [TS]

00:11:29   the only possible way to make a movie with the original actors you just gotta [TS]

00:11:34   say forget about the books I read it I think there's a there's a problem with [TS]

00:11:39   fetishes and candid going to hamstring Astoria Hotel good reason just don't let [TS]

00:11:45   it rest doesn't mean you can't read those books and have fun but you know [TS]

00:11:49   you don't need to be in the exact same canonical University [TS]

00:11:54   only read the first of those books the first one with the Grand Admiral Timothy [TS]

00:12:01   Zahn so bad it kept me from ever reading anymore but I i've at least aware of [TS]

00:12:10   what happened in it in one of you know I saw the headlines one of the novel's [TS]

00:12:14   Chewbacca catskill and you know there's no way they're not bringing Chewbacca [TS]

00:12:18   back in the new movie does eventually gonna kill him in the movie then I can [TS]

00:12:26   they're not going to just say we're sure to bacha [TS]

00:12:29   like they did in like they did in Last Crusade where they just kind of pan over [TS]

00:12:34   to a picture of sean connery on his desk [TS]

00:12:38   yeah because they couldn't get him to do the movie or whatever yeah I always [TS]

00:12:50   understood I like to pretend it didn't happen and happen in the same could have [TS]

00:12:58   University people's 2007 potentially as in the same kind of danger zone because [TS]

00:13:04   everyone's excited ready for a long time and they couldn't get [TS]

00:13:08   principles together to do it by the time they did her supporters really old and I [TS]

00:13:12   was like you know it's also here we have a little better here because I think [TS]

00:13:17   chronologically speaking everyone is more comfortable with the actors being [TS]

00:13:21   the ages to be an episode 7 it's like how many years of best and that's [TS]

00:13:24   exactly how much older you're supposed to be so you're fine make up this is [TS]

00:13:28   what you look like when you're this age fine and and the other thing to do the [TS]

00:13:34   same point is there's clearly gonna be a cast of 22 thirty-something heroes and [TS]

00:13:41   villains major roles to do that sort of running and jumping and falling stuff [TS]

00:13:48   that you need not Shia LaBeouf right so that the classic characters can also [TS]

00:13:54   take on the roles of like obi-wan and Grandma Tarkenton [TS]

00:13:58   to be there though like when they said I guess what everybody's coming back in [TS]

00:14:03   psychology everybody's conduct and you start to worry that like it's going to [TS]

00:14:08   be like their last hurrah and the gang will be the young actors but like it'll [TS]

00:14:12   be a movie for the old stairs and transition to the youngsters during the [TS]

00:14:16   movie that was the fear that I hear you make it they'll guys run around for as [TS]

00:14:19   long as you've got them and you'll kill some of them all for those kind of you [TS]

00:14:23   know passed the baton and the next move you be really about youngsters but like [TS]

00:14:27   what they like what they did with obi-wan in the Phantom Menace yeah kind [TS]

00:14:32   of I mean it like well it it's like we're going to introduce what's going to [TS]

00:14:36   be one of the flagship characters of the whole six movie series obi-wan Kenobi [TS]

00:14:40   and then we'll just spend the entire Middle our the movie with him waiting on [TS]

00:14:45   a spaceship in the desert you just don't know who the hell is I know so little [TS]

00:14:51   about the movies I've been avoiding spoilers that just based on the casting [TS]

00:14:55   alone you say well given this cast I can make a movie [TS]

00:14:58   mostly about the old people and about the idea of like now their past their [TS]

00:15:01   prime in the passing the baton as you generation but this they're like one [TS]

00:15:04   last heist or whatever you know if you want to use another movie cliché you [TS]

00:15:09   could do movie entirely about young people and these guys are just in [TS]

00:15:12   supporting roles in the their brief glimpses of them or whatever I still [TS]

00:15:15   know what kind of movies gonna be based on the trailer is no basis in a trail at [TS]

00:15:19   also there's a clear signal of the gates as I know we've got his great people but [TS]

00:15:24   does a movie about these youngsters and here they all are on the trailer and [TS]

00:15:27   we're not even gonna show you any of the other people who is playing the fucking [TS]

00:15:31   somebody well I gotta be there are honored to have surely be like $200 [TS]

00:15:42   don't know fly casual a great line yeah so I i mean starting out with our [TS]

00:15:51   anticipation of the force awakens as good a place as any [TS]

00:15:55   does it really what motivated me to do the show it to get me excited about Star [TS]

00:15:59   Wars again to and the severe let I would describe indeed for as more of a letdown [TS]

00:16:08   than even the Phantom I would not just good to see you you would not disagree [TS]

00:16:14   you think you know I would not know someone is the biggest disappointment of [TS]

00:16:22   our generation because of the massive anticipation and like it was promised it [TS]

00:16:29   was foretold ride we wanted to know what happened in this whole you know how I [TS]

00:16:34   can turn to Darth Vader what's the deal we want to know we're promised like a [TS]

00:16:39   nine movie magazines for so long and we waited and waited 24 was like suppose [TS]

00:16:45   they can make another indie movie but if they never make another one I feel [TS]

00:16:48   satisfied that the arc of Indian 03 good movies 2 good movies in the movie that [TS]

00:16:53   was ok and that's fine you weren't taking to know something that has been [TS]

00:16:58   talked about or alluded to the entire run of the series of whether it be for [TS]

00:17:04   you massively anticipated with a huge gap in between and the disappointment I [TS]

00:17:10   think was even more crushing only seen any for once but my recollection is it [TS]

00:17:15   was not as incompetently made as it's it's like the journey dangers I signed [TS]

00:17:21   for once [TS]

00:17:22   you in with us we're talking about excitement about the new Bond who added [TS]

00:17:32   the new Star Wars and hands down is going to be the next year as much as I [TS]

00:17:36   like 25 bonds now has the hit the out that it's like there's going to be some [TS]

00:17:45   bad movies there's gonna be some good ones are currently in an upswing 27 [TS]

00:17:48   those Daniel Craig and like no matter how big a Bond fan you are you're like [TS]

00:17:52   well this is a bad bomb but always like it's it's it's evergreen just mentioning [TS]

00:17:56   celebrate the same way that resulted franchises you like well I don't like [TS]

00:17:59   the spawned a different that you don't have to worry about continuity in order [TS]

00:18:02   it actors aging out the disaster like doctor who this new guy the ups and [TS]

00:18:07   downs in its signs were a Star Wars is a defined continuity in stories specific [TS]

00:18:11   actors playing specific characters the doesn't have that out so it's like it's [TS]

00:18:15   got its gotta count you don't get a million jobs well even if Specter and of [TS]

00:18:19   stinking we would get just as excited next time when whatever they cashed it [TS]

00:18:23   just felt like it would just be me said you like and you expect Asians would be [TS]

00:18:28   fine cool another you think it's safe to say I think I forget exactly when [TS]

00:18:32   goldeneye came out but I would say in the last twenty years we've had four [TS]

00:18:36   pretty good Bond movies we've had goldeneye and in the three Daniel Craig [TS]

00:18:40   ones so in 20 years we've already we've got four good ones under her belt so [TS]

00:18:44   does a dud next year wouldn't ways down the swing and a Miss is not weird [TS]

00:18:49   foreboding understand your attraction to go then I but I'm willing to concede [TS]

00:18:53   that we've had pretty good set of Bond movies sprinkled throughout the bad ones [TS]

00:18:58   and even the bad ones are like Mao whenever you know I don't love gold star [TS]

00:19:03   wars on the other hand weird Ryan yeah well but I do think the long term and [TS]

00:19:10   this is another reason I thought to convene in you know I've done specials [TS]

00:19:15   on bond back in the day with Dan [TS]

00:19:17   and now we're doing Star Wars I do think though that ultimately like twenty [TS]

00:19:22   twenty five years from now we'll look back at Star Wars as a sort of bond like [TS]

00:19:26   franchise where I I think we're going to see an endless series of trilogies we [TS]

00:19:31   hope so because when it was tied up in Lucas like Lucas is the one who waited [TS]

00:19:34   16 years or whatever to to give us episode one and there was all because he [TS]

00:19:37   controlled everything no no cooperation would never have waited that long civil [TS]

00:19:43   like you're sitting on this cash cow what you're doing right and turning into [TS]

00:19:47   a franchise freeze it from the constraints imposed by the time this new [TS]

00:19:52   trilogy is over we'll also freed from the constraints of those characters that [TS]

00:19:55   we know and love because although all be two older dead certainly actors well and [TS]

00:20:00   then you're free to do whatever you want with his university could have done all [TS]

00:20:03   along but because I didn't want to do that never happened right so I have had [TS]

00:20:08   a weird take on that maybe that I i've seen [TS]

00:20:14   University like stories being told in the universe but I'm kind of the opinion [TS]

00:20:18   that the universe exists in order to tell this story and it becomes a hero [TS]

00:20:25   story and while it's fun to go play in a playground I don't know is I don't know [TS]

00:20:33   the value of the universe [TS]

00:20:36   it is worth it like maybe there's maybe you can have another university other [TS]

00:20:42   interesting stories like it seems like just because you've got is well-defined [TS]

00:20:47   City University [TS]

00:20:48   lead out to tell this particular story the fact that you can shoot other [TS]

00:20:52   stories into it is cool but maybe not the best use of your storytelling skills [TS]

00:20:59   it's not really sure it's kind of like in the Star Trek universe where like [TS]

00:21:03   this story [TS]

00:21:04   captain kirk and the enterprise is one story but what you're left with when [TS]

00:21:09   you're done with that story are you set it aside is essentially a sci-fi a [TS]

00:21:13   fleshed-out size by universe with a built-in audience and it's really just [TS]

00:21:16   an excuse to make sci-fi movies like i'm looking for anything that will that will [TS]

00:21:21   let sci-fi movies be made where they don't have to be constrained by world [TS]

00:21:26   because everyone understands the starter interests what I mean [TS]

00:21:28   TV next generation is like next generation is not Captain Kirk again [TS]

00:21:35   right but it is the enterprising reverend alway over to you know the the [TS]

00:21:39   more snow Voyager and stuff like that i mean saying that those are great [TS]

00:21:42   examples of what you can do but the ideas once you have an established [TS]

00:21:45   sci-fi universe you can do lots of interesting sci-fi things in it and I [TS]

00:21:49   want to see more soap I think there's not enough of it every time someone to [TS]

00:21:53   do something [TS]

00:21:54   sci-fi ish there are faced with the problem of I have to describe the sci-fi [TS]

00:21:59   world before I can even tell my story and 30 minutes 30 minutes establishing I [TS]

00:22:07   think what you i think we need is exactly what you said guy but it led to [TS]

00:22:11   the writer just concentrate on just give us a handful of really interesting [TS]

00:22:15   protagonists and antagonists who have an arc and [TS]

00:22:22   then you you have a world to put him in immediately but given a different you [TS]

00:22:25   know just givin give us some but don't give us a new version of Vader for God's [TS]

00:22:28   sake don't just you know yeah anyway it's like they call it these these sort [TS]

00:22:34   of fault because they end up telling the origin story over and over again because [TS]

00:22:38   they don't have a universe they have like each superheroes University up to [TS]

00:22:42   his house not like we've established University we can just tell stories it's [TS]

00:22:44   like well I have a new character design memo gotta tell you are in america wait [TS]

00:22:50   a second who is Captain America each character is a universe is just normal [TS]

00:22:55   is nothing about like Birds Star Wars University Star Trek universe have rules [TS]

00:22:58   about like people get from place to place how is the system of government [TS]

00:23:02   organized how do the alien race go on roughly and the beauty of Star Wars is [TS]

00:23:07   that these stories the original story that's told the university so many [TS]

00:23:11   things are inside out and touched on that may be interesting that are already [TS]

00:23:14   there could you just want to have an entire story about you know what [TS]

00:23:20   happened on or you can take that you can end it but I can do about interest or [TS]

00:23:26   not both had maybe something else if you're lucky you get this to the right [TS]

00:23:29   people you can end up with a new many franchise where say this I'm bounty [TS]

00:23:33   hunter that uses a very charismatic actor becomes like a cross between [TS]

00:23:36   Indiana Jones and Han Solo but in the Star Wars universe and they get a series [TS]

00:23:42   of movies and they never know which one is going to hit the same way you never [TS]

00:23:44   know which one of these disappear but there's lots of things that it touched [TS]

00:23:49   upon you could say oh we tried that is a movie and the stakes are lower like well [TS]

00:23:52   this is mostly going to be a Star Wars heist movie or you can make a a sort of [TS]

00:24:00   like the clone wars in like a rebel Academy time movie where it's more like [TS]

00:24:04   top gun in their jockeying to be the best x-wing pilot so many movies you can [TS]

00:24:08   make in this universe with things that are established it can just be plain old [TS]

00:24:12   science fiction space movies you can do it you could do like a protagonist [TS]

00:24:19   bounty hunters a little bit more like a real bounty hunter those looking to [TS]

00:24:24   bring people in a live now [TS]

00:24:26   assassin you know what some of the other those guys know disintegrate who's maybe [TS]

00:24:35   like high indeed the way that indeed kept losing out to block everything he [TS]

00:24:39   went for Bella cut first like a guy who's you want to root for because he is [TS]

00:24:44   not evil he just a bit of a road but he keeps losing out to IG 88 or something [TS]

00:24:49   like that and IgD his bounty they are doing like so they have the 379 that [TS]

00:25:00   they're doing right and there's also going to be stand-alone movies and just [TS]

00:25:03   understanding and the stand-alone movies will feature you know one of the most [TS]

00:25:08   well-known characters but that's trying starting to establish the cadence of [TS]

00:25:12   like our there's there's a trilogy that are clear for these three movies that's [TS]

00:25:16   going to be a main story but then we're going to have to stand alongside get [TS]

00:25:19   people used to the idea and I bet you have any one of those standards like [TS]

00:25:22   really catches that stand alone you know those characters that are that conflict [TS]

00:25:27   or whatever else been softened its own little mini are giving you the freedom [TS]

00:25:31   to try a bunch of things he was 16 without people being upset you know only [TS]

00:25:37   three chances we get episode 12 in 30 11 things you may be able to be good every [TS]

00:25:41   two secs after getting there was no purpose of three and that's it I'm [TS]

00:25:45   actually really excited about the show and Johnson me well at least writing we [TS]

00:25:53   don't know I don't think is directing eight and then he's doing [TS]

00:25:59   thought but I i'm not quite sure what officials either way it's pretty cool [TS]

00:26:08   yeah yeah but a lot of going to set up the conflict over the course yes I do [TS]

00:26:16   think that's a strength of GM's oh he does a great setup yeah I just hope it's [TS]

00:26:22   a strong because they like in the original trilogy had such a strong claim [TS]

00:26:28   like an iconic villain and an iconic hero hero dad hero gets to evolve over [TS]

00:26:35   the course of things but it's such a clear conflict and later a little bit of [TS]

00:26:40   twisting you know your stuff in there I am your father all the stuff like that [TS]

00:26:45   is such a good satisfying sturdy symbol arc and modern movies I find tend to [TS]

00:26:50   over complicate things like too much too much nuance but like that [TS]

00:26:59   bones are not as sturdy like there always has to be a lot of a lot of [TS]

00:27:03   things in the nixon it's just our economy seems to be more about clarity [TS]

00:27:08   simplicity and sturdiness of you know archetypes and he had to do it well and [TS]

00:27:14   that's that's what you can hang your three movies on the start the talk-show [TS]

00:27:19   research department is just beat me according to IMDB at least ryan Johnson [TS]

00:27:24   has been named as the director for both episodes so that is good it's good [TS]

00:27:30   because I'd like to apply now I do agree that judges said is is in a nutshell and [TS]

00:27:35   I feel like we can continue on for most of the rest of the show and sort of [TS]

00:27:39   compared the first trilogy versus the prequel trilogy [TS]

00:27:42   in detail in broad strokes but in broad strokes the single biggest problem [TS]

00:27:46   between the two [TS]

00:27:48   well that's hard to say the single biggest cause there's maybe three or [TS]

00:27:50   four an enormous problems but 11 of them is the simple lack of clarity over who's [TS]

00:27:55   the good guys and the bad guys in the first one right before you ever see [TS]

00:28:00   anything it you see the logo you hear the fan fair and it's already very [TS]

00:28:04   exciting because it's a cool logo and it's really cool fan fair to start the [TS]

00:28:09   theme song and then boom you get the scroll and the scroll says right at the [TS]

00:28:13   beginning of the scroll there's these good guy rebels have just won their [TS]

00:28:18   first victory against the evil Galactic Empire and there you've already got the [TS]

00:28:23   basic gist of it you could if you're a little kid and you can even read that [TS]

00:28:27   fast if you could at least get that first parent rebels win first victory [TS]

00:28:32   against evil Galactic Empire just right there evil and then all of a sudden you [TS]

00:28:37   miss the rest of the words and then you see a little tiny space ship being [TS]

00:28:40   chased by an enormous badass looking spaceship you know exactly what's going [TS]

00:28:44   on [TS]

00:28:44   you've already got it good guys outgunned bad guys enormous resources [TS]

00:28:50   and their says that's the whole three movies rather than the previous set up [TS]

00:28:56   like the type of movie would have to be to use that time setup is like you would [TS]

00:29:02   have to be kind of like this even disassembler like like like a Roman HBO [TS]

00:29:08   or like you know it's not politically entry again the fall of a decade in [TS]

00:29:12   Empire and that is a much more complicated story [TS]

00:29:15   and you know underdog rebels vs oppressive empire you know like it's [TS]

00:29:20   it's it's a different story it's like it's like turning it into a political [TS]

00:29:24   thrillers like well that's not really what stores this and then failed to [TS]

00:29:28   competently execute sort of geopolitical geopolitical throws don't have a lot of [TS]

00:29:35   special cases in gunfights like they're all about backroom dealings and and you [TS]

00:29:41   know it's like a house of cards in space like they just it's not no one involved [TS]

00:29:45   in that movie was equipped to do that script in support of the characters and [TS]

00:29:48   support and that's not the story 12 here we want to hear hey guys who supposedly [TS]

00:29:53   was nice turn into a theater that's what we want to hear your three movies to [TS]

00:29:56   tell me that and you just like actually want to tell you about the the fall the [TS]

00:30:00   decadent Jedi and I'll do it really crappy job of it not interested and you [TS]

00:30:04   did a petrol yeah I think its debt to levels deep or one he didn't want to [TS]

00:30:08   political thriller anyway and to the political thriller that George Lucas [TS]

00:30:13   wrote a maiden 0 sense whatsoever and I don't mean that in a small sent only to [TS]

00:30:18   to exaggerate a little sense it just doesn't hold any water at all I can see [TS]

00:30:23   the story he was going for [TS]

00:30:25   because you can sort of like this if he tells you like this is his characters [TS]

00:30:31   say things that are basically the text of the movie with the Ember saying stuff [TS]

00:30:36   like that I can imagine a story like that as like a side story or I'd like [TS]

00:30:43   maybe one of the expanding universe novels describing the fall of the [TS]

00:30:46   Republic and why the republic fell but it would have to involve entirely [TS]

00:30:50   different characters and it would have nothing to do with Darth Vader anything [TS]

00:30:55   we cared about knowing any spiegel's I would think it's a mistake to tell the [TS]

00:30:59   backstory of you most intriguing billing or anti-hero because all you can do is [TS]

00:31:05   listen them like a lot of the power comes in there is a cartoon villain in [TS]

00:31:12   the first movie and by the final movie you sympathize with the arc of his [TS]

00:31:16   character [TS]

00:31:16   yeah so that's it you're done that's that's right you wanna know you still [TS]

00:31:20   wanna know how did they get to the place where he is [TS]

00:31:23   New Hope pattern to suppose that person you know come and I always compared to [TS]

00:31:28   the best-case scenario this is the Godfather series not counting movie 3 [TS]

00:31:32   where you take Michael Corleone who is a good person [TS]

00:31:36   Martin he he means well is thrust into a difficult situation and he tries to do [TS]

00:31:42   the right thing in every every time his present position he tries to do what he [TS]

00:31:46   thinks is the right thing for himself and his family and a series of what he [TS]

00:31:50   thinks are good decisions lead him to the place where he is at the end of [TS]

00:31:52   godfather to its how can how can a good person make series of moves they think [TS]

00:31:57   you're right and up in a super dark place and the Godfather is a high bar [TS]

00:32:02   right you know but if you want to say good goodfellas the same thing anyway [TS]

00:32:06   right kind of place is being witness protection that's more like things fall [TS]

00:32:12   apart [TS]

00:32:12   whereas which is how do things come together and come to an end where you [TS]

00:32:17   are just this you know where he's one of the top people in the Empire defense by [TS]

00:32:24   the time I expect you are you know the the fist of the empire crushing [TS]

00:32:28   everybody else you like this was a good person had that happen and so we speak [TS]

00:32:33   at the end tried I would like to see the story of how does this good person fall [TS]

00:32:38   into that because that can be a very nice like this store is kind of like [TS]

00:32:40   calls it a tragedy if the downfall of a great person who you identify with his [TS]

00:32:48   Thrall through the Godfather movies you feel for Michael Corleone you identify [TS]

00:32:51   with him you you you feel like he's the the protagonist that he is the good just [TS]

00:32:55   got to celebrate the good gonna get it takes you to the journey realizes makes [TS]

00:33:00   you realise along with the movie that this has been done in a particular [TS]

00:33:05   direction I would like to see that movie so I agree with you i would like to you [TS]

00:33:11   know since I was a kid have always been curious about how turned to the dark [TS]

00:33:17   side that that's fascinating [TS]

00:33:19   but I think the degree of difficulty of telling their story in a satisfactory [TS]

00:33:22   manner is so high that you run the risk of ruining the character basically if [TS]

00:33:31   you pay attention to this the prequels they did so basically you have to you [TS]

00:33:39   have to do it because you can't believe that you don't you don't root for him [TS]

00:33:44   really Michael Corleone is a good example because you do and you [TS]

00:33:49   sympathize with his decisions I mean I think clearly probably the biggest [TS]

00:33:53   decision to start him here's to you know of a sudden he's not up until then on [TS]

00:34:08   paper he claims he's a war hero he's you know he's college-educated you know his [TS]

00:34:14   father she employed all over you have a lecture some like that you know he set [TS]

00:34:19   up for a career in politics and where maybe his family isn't clean he is [TS]

00:34:23   somebody could look at whatever is done and if they knew the truth they'd find [TS]

00:34:27   out that you know he's a good kid from gangster family whereas once he pulls [TS]

00:34:32   the hit on you know he's gotta keep it and it's motivated by love of family [TS]

00:34:36   love right thing they could go too difficult to tell that story I one of [TS]

00:34:41   the videos that Johnson around the US to watch for this was the last thing where [TS]

00:34:47   they're trying to show some of the influences that cutting those influences [TS]

00:34:51   into the video of New Hope like like George Lucas is inspired by you know [TS]

00:34:58   these Kurosawa movies in westerns and Flash Gordon and he just posting those [TS]

00:35:03   inputs the movie end of the month the modern example of the best Quentin [TS]

00:35:06   Tarantino movies movies that he loved particular movies particularly in [TS]

00:35:11   particular images that he grew up with [TS]

00:35:12   kiri purposes and and remixes and filters through his own mind and [TS]

00:35:17   imagination and make something greater than the whole if you want to tell the [TS]

00:35:22   downfall of drugs did a story he didn't have any better ideas you can do that [TS]

00:35:25   same appropriation every mixing directly from gangster movies The Godfather [TS]

00:35:29   Goodfellas rainy there are so many sources for you to perform the same [TS]

00:35:33   creative function of saying you can just pull that story straight out and use [TS]

00:35:39   that as the bones to heroin use particular scenes in like you know there [TS]

00:35:43   are there other examples of this type of story from sentiment is essentially [TS]

00:35:47   tragedy even when we know the ending that makes it all the more poignant [TS]

00:35:50   because the first few movies you'd really want to have a identifying with [TS]

00:35:54   and rooting for and against and in the end all be all all the worst the [TS]

00:35:59   audience they would feel terrible that they know what's coming [TS]

00:36:01   kinda like Titanic me know that you got a build-up had the sinking be meaningful [TS]

00:36:07   because now you become attached even like historical busy season and he goes [TS]

00:36:14   and basically becomes a member that's it seems like a decent model for the [TS]

00:36:20   takeover of the Republic of it and you know what's going to happen to get to [TS]

00:36:23   that story made exactly happened to see how can I tell that story so that I care [TS]

00:36:29   when it happened yet knowing that knowing me knowing the ending is [TS]

00:36:32   actually a very well as a well-trodden path 44 especially I think track tragic [TS]

00:36:39   fiction I mean shakespeare all the ship most of so many of Shakespeare's plays [TS]

00:36:44   were not original stories they were either historical or they were these you [TS]

00:36:50   know parables that had been passed down by spoken word four hundred years people [TS]

00:36:54   knew the gist of them all he did was do them really really well with really [TS]

00:36:59   clever dialogue and [TS]

00:37:00   really crisply defined characters but the fact that people knew they were [TS]

00:37:04   going emphasizes the tragedy has got thing was the bombing of the guys chair [TS]

00:37:11   the character doesn't know the bomb there's that show the audience the bomb [TS]

00:37:14   under the chairs of the audience knows ahead of time that is about the [TS]

00:37:17   characters don't you know any good attorney if you're reading frantically [TS]

00:37:21   everything and again does that brings them closer to the dark side like the [TS]

00:37:24   audience knows like no and it is a bombing like this [TS]

00:37:29   ample precedent for how to do this well is it wasn't done well in Munich [TS]

00:37:33   couldn't be you lose the surprise and you gain tremendous tension tension at [TS]

00:37:39   last whereas like and I think in that the other side of that Hitchcock parable [TS]

00:37:44   you know his advice on show the audience the bomb under imported under a little [TS]

00:37:47   girls seat have a little girl eating pizza popcorn you show the bomb it under [TS]

00:37:51   her seat he said you know everybody's first instinct though if they're making [TS]

00:37:56   a thriller is to make the Obama secret and we don't find it goes off until it [TS]

00:38:01   goes off and that makes us the real audience no different than the audience [TS]

00:38:05   in the theater where the Obamas and he says it's you know you can surprise the [TS]

00:38:09   hell out of the audience that way but there's no there's no tension tension is [TS]

00:38:15   what interesting I think that there's there's there's just no arc with Anakin [TS]

00:38:30   in the in the prequel trilogy it's just annoying annoying and endearing annoying [TS]

00:38:37   and then all of a sudden 45 minutes to go flip to the dark side so i dont no [TS]

00:38:42   good reason I'm sure but it's like you got three movies to explain why this [TS]

00:38:48   guy's going to turn and just the movie hours are ticking by and you're talking [TS]

00:38:52   about the Emperor and you're talking about people running around shooting [TS]

00:38:55   each other there and other things and at no point you're like so why is he going [TS]

00:39:01   to suddenly turn evil because the script tells them to my god I guess and I kill [TS]

00:39:05   children sure that comes right that fits perfect sense yeah I was so excited [TS]

00:39:11   after the [TS]

00:39:12   they should have the original teaser trailer for Phantom Menace there's one [TS]

00:39:17   shot Anakin standing in everybody's cheering him the little boy and I told [TS]

00:39:25   he had this weird [TS]

00:39:26   my interpretation which cities just so forceful that everybody thinks is [TS]

00:39:30   awesome and it basically he's zhigo's gonna end up turning into innovator and [TS]

00:39:35   then it turned out it was goofy things that they could have done with that [TS]

00:39:43   character and that is a simplified way to go like oh he's super powerful goes [TS]

00:39:47   to his head like that's more of the Marvel Dylan type of thing where you and [TS]

00:39:51   you're just like you know what i'm saying just genius everyone else on [TS]

00:39:55   earth is like ants to me I should rule over them and there you know that's one [TS]

00:39:58   way to go it's a little bit more cartoonish villains it is definitely not [TS]

00:40:01   as sophisticated as Michael Corleone think that's what you want to promise [TS]

00:40:05   new trilogy is that Vader is actually a sinking feeling sympathetic person who [TS]

00:40:11   found it connects but Luke and has a you know cares for his son repent for his [TS]

00:40:17   sins dies for them and you know has like that's the person that you promised and [TS]

00:40:23   the crazy egomaniac it's difficult to reconcile that was a good thing you have [TS]

00:40:28   to go kind of a market where it's like he did want to do the right thing and [TS]

00:40:32   they tried to that it's like a whiny and annoying and and the romance angled is [TS]

00:40:37   no chemistry there there's romance is a way you can kind of go bad but it's more [TS]

00:40:42   like video into a crime of passion doesn't lead you to come in a rule over [TS]

00:40:47   a giant Empire until the Jedi and start by slaughtering children and it's like [TS]

00:40:51   well I really do my mom died so I guess now I should kill these children I [TS]

00:40:55   promise I'll be able to help people stay alive like if you want people stay alive [TS]

00:40:58   children [TS]

00:41:00   yeah I did do some other desserts right there where they advertised as being [TS]

00:41:09   incredibly powerful powerful money order [TS]

00:41:12   and he doesn't do anything helpful I felt it when this sort of lost [TS]

00:41:18   opportunity in the second movie when first of all I don't like any of this [TS]

00:41:22   but when the same people that catches his mother and he loses it like I just [TS]

00:41:27   want them to just forced to strip the city you know encampment just tearing [TS]

00:41:33   apart with his my anguish time that he's super powerful then you can start point [TS]

00:41:39   for child prodigy movies yes very good efficient type thing I care a chess [TS]

00:41:47   genius or like you and Enders game type thing where their their child and they [TS]

00:41:51   have amazing powers but they're not emotionally ready to deal with them and [TS]

00:41:55   that wasn't playing up like he was just like these chimps equivalent peridot [TS]

00:42:08   stupid it doesn't but he's not super powers are kinda like the marble power [TS]

00:42:15   in that depending on the scene especially the prequels there there's no [TS]

00:42:20   real art to the general powers and it's not clear what they're able to do or not [TS]

00:42:25   able to do like where is it needs at the time and original trilogy it's like [TS]

00:42:29   before us is serious and we're in pretty weak and by the time it's genuinely [TS]

00:42:36   impressive whereas the prequels like sometimes removing the giant rock [TS]

00:42:39   sometimes are pushing one due to a sometimes removed a salt shaker Apple [TS]

00:42:44   sometimes about lightning but you can block the lightning but it's like the [TS]

00:42:49   rules are all worked out where as in the original trilogy with a clear our car [TS]

00:42:52   thrust three home movies they made an ARCA force powers like to peer into the [TS]

00:42:55   third movie and when it does you surprised it's clearly a higher echelon [TS]

00:42:59   of power and pickles that's all I thought that the other lessons that was [TS]

00:43:04   very very clear in the original trilogy from all three movies but in a growing [TS]

00:43:10   especially in the second to where Luke is more [TS]

00:43:15   training to be a Jedi growing as a young Jedi was this this point of you if your [TS]

00:43:26   gonna be a Jedi you cannot you can't touch the dark side like once you go [TS]

00:43:30   it's it's all corrupted like you can't just dip your toes in the dark side [TS]

00:43:34   you know once you touch it it's it's going to corrupt you know I haven't [TS]

00:43:38   theory on that jonathan klein some of the time I think so I mean the response [TS]

00:43:47   has been positive force and effectively doesn't the murdering everybody who's [TS]

00:43:49   got four stars except for luke and I think this thing with Luke is that he [TS]

00:43:56   does touch the dark side he uses force choke on a guard that's not cool know [TS]

00:44:03   the generals don't we just walked into James Palace and chanclas ago he's just [TS]

00:44:09   only black and he beat see defeats later by just getting really really angry ya [TS]

00:44:16   BB in the crap out of him but I think I think the balance is wary when he tosses [TS]

00:44:22   his leg side and decide that like no I can be uniquely can pull back from the [TS]

00:44:29   dark so I'm so I'm so willing to reject the dark side that I leave myself [TS]

00:44:32   defenseless [TS]

00:44:34   accepted it is not entirely a creation of the prequels the tires yep that's why [TS]

00:44:42   i think its BS because it's like it's like saying we need to have a balanced [TS]

00:44:45   machine like you know murder and and safety we never balance beam robbery and [TS]

00:44:50   having your goods be security need to have some robberies but then sometimes [TS]

00:44:54   things are stolen and we'd have summer mostly not murders that we need to have [TS]

00:44:58   some you know anger and hatred but not know I disagree disagree I think so I [TS]

00:45:04   think if anything to Jedi Order is depicted as being emotionally detached [TS]

00:45:12   and ultimately that kind of leads to their downfall but that's about it [TS]

00:45:21   but I think tank said he's basing the passion and love it [TS]

00:45:28   only passionately loving anybody [TS]

00:45:37   depicted again this is all dependent on existing markets clear the dark side is [TS]

00:45:43   using your powers for evil and I have tremendous power is an absolute power [TS]

00:45:47   corrupts absolutely that's the dark side and all ideas look we're gonna give you [TS]

00:45:51   these powers and can be really tempting to use his powers to essentially get [TS]

00:45:54   your way and even if the way that your ways the good like the Empire you still [TS]

00:45:59   should be careful because it's really easy to slip into like you know using [TS]

00:46:03   your emotions to you to tell you what to do with these powers and his whole arc [TS]

00:46:07   is like I'm gonna try is haunted and we're going to try to stay away from the [TS]

00:46:12   dark side but you know by the second movie that you know his father had [TS]

00:46:15   problems dealing with this and he's a hundred too and he really wants it to be [TS]

00:46:18   better and better does terrible things and you with the audience alike pound to [TS]

00:46:21   move kilmer never but in the end of talk about to die in the end of story of [TS]

00:46:25   pacifism where is the only movie hero ever to embrace pacifism in the [TS]

00:46:30   climactic scene he gets away with it because Vader was already completely [TS]

00:46:34   corrupted as no problem killing the Emperor buddies like I would rather die [TS]

00:46:38   then fall to the dark side because it's a personal victory center says I'm he's [TS]

00:46:43   he's had his victory his whole victory was like can I master the force can I [TS]

00:46:47   messed myself cannot give into matron everything in the end he does and that [TS]

00:46:50   is his victory even he had been killed by the emperor by Vader he still would [TS]

00:46:55   have won and you would have been proud of him but we still have a happy ending [TS]

00:46:58   because that's his orkut not like what I had to do I had to choke the morning [TS]

00:47:03   guard I had to get angry if he better you didn't have to do stuff that was his [TS]

00:47:08   battle against himself when when when he's doing and they heard the sad music [TS]

00:47:12   is playing not to happy music there's no there's no balance and using his anger [TS]

00:47:16   to beat up on Vader that is his slow defeat the balance angle come from the [TS]

00:47:21   prequel I think you have a better argument for the balance being that the [TS]

00:47:26   general I have to you know sort of be more in touch with their emotions [TS]

00:47:29   and not be you know it's kind of like arguing for the priests should be sold [TS]

00:47:34   in the church yet from Jenna squeaky clean right he's he's gone to the dark [TS]

00:47:44   side and he's come back to the bring himself like he was not trained for his [TS]

00:47:52   entire life to be a part of the training it's like you know like pretty sure [TS]

00:47:59   whatever you are denying our parlance because we just a few mins and [TS]

00:48:02   everything you're denying a part of you gonna be sold it because you're among [TS]

00:48:06   its like what's important for your spiritual I'm so on so forth but the [TS]

00:48:10   number of humans who deal well being sold as is very low because it's a [TS]

00:48:13   strong urge to be havin so wouldn't it be better if there was a philosophy that [TS]

00:48:17   embraced everything that it means to be human and just took the good from that [TS]

00:48:20   anyway nevermind to who those two also that like let's say with the Catholic [TS]

00:48:30   Church where where the priests are selling it there is no argument with in [TS]

00:48:36   church doctrine that what makes somebody a good priest is an inherent quality [TS]

00:48:43   like genetic where the Jetta even in the in not even going to the second trilogy [TS]

00:48:48   with a backwards you know we wrote in the M word but even in the first trilogy [TS]

00:48:57   they say you know the force is strong with the sky walkers and stuff they even [TS]

00:49:00   admit then that it's you know why in the world with the Jedi orders everybody be [TS]

00:49:09   celibate if like the dress the best source for new jet I would be their [TS]

00:49:13   offspring anger makes sense in this disrespecting that because priests on [TS]

00:49:18   have magical powers right so these individuals have tremendous power and it [TS]

00:49:25   seemed as if I had described what the whole purpose would be like look some [TS]

00:49:29   percentage of people in this universe that is amazing magical power that is [TS]

00:49:33   like super dangerous who we need to get these kids young and we need to tamp [TS]

00:49:37   down some aspects of human nature essentially we need to get the [TS]

00:49:41   temperature under control [TS]

00:49:43   we need to make it because it's very easy gift you give like a five-year-old [TS]

00:49:47   you know the ability to use the Force and learned you know but I'm there [TS]

00:49:51   thirteen year olds they will have built up in an amazing abilities as far as I [TS]

00:49:54   know they'll be very destructive like we need to act in the balanced against the [TS]

00:50:00   the the worst part of human nature because if we don't we're gonna have a [TS]

00:50:03   bunch of these people running around with the power would corrupt that they [TS]

00:50:07   may have to have been good people who need to get there early and what we need [TS]

00:50:10   to do is give them more of a monk type mindset because if we don't have a bunch [TS]

00:50:13   of hot head teenagers around the superpowers and that is a really bad [TS]

00:50:17   formula for for peace and so there is some I could I come from the [TS]

00:50:21   justification for why it's really important to find for sensitive kids [TS]

00:50:24   young get them into the program and teach them to maybe they took it too far [TS]

00:50:30   by total detachment in celibacy or whatever like that i think is too far [TS]

00:50:33   but have them in a program that lets them deal with their emotions and [TS]

00:50:38   understand that they have you know with great power comes responsibility to [TS]

00:50:42   ensure that they have to deal with that in a certain way so make some sense that [TS]

00:50:46   the program for Jenny would be like she'll like otherwise you can you can [TS]

00:50:52   you imagine teenagers with the force it would be bad scene let's take a break [TS]

00:50:59   and we'll come back to them and come back to this question of the Jedi Order [TS]

00:52:38   Backblaze dot com slash daring fireball back bit Backblaze dot com which I can [TS]

00:52:46   never pronounced correctly / daring fireball generator see this is one of [TS]

00:52:54   those things big picture big picture Star Wars 2 double trilogy the thing [TS]

00:53:00   that has always stood out to me even I thought even with the original trilogy [TS]

00:53:05   by the time we got to return of the Jedi that Lucas didn't really have all the [TS]

00:53:10   shit worked out at the beginning i mean that even by a long shot but then with [TS]

00:53:14   the second trilogy just just reeks to high hell of stuff that he made up on [TS]

00:53:20   the fly like almost everything in the prequel trilogy to me shows in it and [TS]

00:53:26   almost Rex the stuff in the original trilogy so I think it was great I think [TS]

00:53:31   it worked really well when you doing struggles you can just say stuff as [TS]

00:53:37   throwaway lines and people can fill in the background because it's not [TS]

00:53:41   particularly pertinent to the tale of destroying the desperate and Empire kind [TS]

00:53:48   of builds on that a little bit because there was there was a flimsy enough so [TS]

00:53:54   that she'll before it could build into it [TS]

00:53:56   return the Jetta it just kind of understand [TS]

00:54:01   what's going on so much but the prequel trilogy makes no sense at all I don't [TS]

00:54:06   understand the Jetta order this it seems like the most effective what I don't get [TS]

00:54:13   it I don't understand the rationale for that all that can be legitimate threat [TS]

00:54:19   to a to a Jedi Order of thousands of work is it took them out but not sure [TS]

00:54:26   it's explained in the span University having read but it makes sense to me [TS]

00:54:29   that kind of an organization where like might makes right if you are mighty [TS]

00:54:37   enough there is no reason to have a bunch of henchmen hang around and so if [TS]

00:54:43   these settle kill each other into his line 222 left I mean I didn't listen to [TS]

00:54:47   the talk show with missus yet but the title these are really do you can have [TS]

00:54:52   an apprentice then it's like a wolf pack [TS]

00:54:55   eventually the lead both gets old and some other wolf challenges into fighting [TS]

00:54:59   winds and then then he's been that type of model where the strongest survive and [TS]

00:55:06   thus if tradition you can hang a lot of Southern tradition because jurors like [TS]

00:55:10   the way it's always been done like the biggest the biggest bad as the big bad [TS]

00:55:15   but you gotta have someone who's an apprentice because eventually you're [TS]

00:55:19   gonna get old and die or get defeated him any time to replace it we'd rather [TS]

00:55:22   have happened if you train some guy i fundamentally it's true to you and it's [TS]

00:55:26   kind of like that's an honorable way for you to go out and he keeps it going and [TS]

00:55:30   so it's not entirely crazy system ok fair enough but you know two games to [TS]

00:55:38   interject also the way the generators of sits next to the republican government [TS]

00:55:45   that that's exactly what i think is a huge mistake I felt like being in exile [TS]

00:55:52   make some sense where where you know because of the empire Yoda and Obi one [TS]

00:55:57   or both [TS]

00:55:58   but I thought that the way that the Jedi were set up in in the first trilogy was [TS]

00:56:04   that they not that they were hiding but that they they weren't centralized there [TS]

00:56:11   was an error like nights yes sandra is exactly what I'm doing where there's not [TS]

00:56:18   like one central like samurai headquarters were all the samurai come [TS]

00:56:21   out there's there's tradition and there's a code clearly there's a code [TS]

00:56:25   and the training might be regularize you know there's a systematic training to [TS]

00:56:32   become a new one but then once you do you're also the lone wolves you know and [TS]

00:56:36   there you know I don't really get a good government of the Republic essentially [TS]

00:56:44   like they were you know they would be the sort of benevolent enforcement I [TS]

00:56:47   think you could make again you can make an interesting sort of geopolitical [TS]

00:56:50   thriller about it is weird system of government you know where they have a [TS]

00:56:53   kind of weird Jedi Order with these magic people at an uneasy truce with the [TS]

00:56:58   democratically elected non magic people like that could work out the different [TS]

00:57:03   kind of movie and you can see how government could get into a really weird [TS]

00:57:07   shape especially if there's legitimate magic running around like well who [TS]

00:57:11   should run the show should be those magic people should be like vote for [TS]

00:57:13   people that were voting for a queen inches of teenager in like this all [TS]

00:57:17   sorts of the government ends up in all sorts of weird distorted shapes [TS]

00:57:20   unwilling to to believe any weird galactic government shape could work out [TS]

00:57:25   but if you move is going to be about that then that's what your movies about [TS]

00:57:28   us about like how do we reconcile this thing and what if the match people don't [TS]

00:57:31   go crazy and what if the political people start to become a correct what [TS]

00:57:34   are the checks and balances here and how do empires fall and so on and so forth [TS]

00:57:37   now the story I was interested in hearing about better an addict in but [TS]

00:57:41   that's a story you know right from the start in the Phantom Menace where you [TS]

00:57:46   first thing we see is quite on in his you know padovano be one [TS]

00:57:51   you know being sent by the Chancellor to do some could you know fix a trade [TS]

00:57:56   dispute or whatever it is dead just didn't seem to me what the jet over [TS]

00:58:00   about it didn't seem to me like the jet over people who did the bidding of the [TS]

00:58:03   government cops like night serve the king right yeah I like samurai serve [TS]

00:58:11   their their fuel master well I do that I think they were grown and i think is the [TS]

00:58:16   right word I thought I always imagined the Jetta is as a sort of Ronan you know [TS]

00:58:20   that they didn't serve a master they serve the force was the master and like [TS]

00:58:24   a natural sense of just truth and justice that would make sense that I [TS]

00:58:28   mean and then you don't have counsel at all the day you have basically a [TS]

00:58:31   government you could still do the government angle they really into that [TS]

00:58:34   was like what you've got through public but what's the deal with these yet I [TS]

00:58:36   don't serve any master that are super powerful that are running around we just [TS]

00:58:40   lost a trust that they're gonna be like benevolent or whatever you can only goes [TS]

00:58:44   like Marilyn serving King Arthur it's like well there's not that many of these [TS]

00:58:48   guys but they are running around [TS]

00:58:50   and we would like to have one in house but the other ones out there how do you [TS]

00:58:54   deal with it said you deal with people who can who are not not constrained by [TS]

00:58:58   any government and have powers that you don't understand it but that are really [TS]

00:59:03   powerful and then you can have something like that we're maybe 11 or so very [TS]

00:59:10   small handful of the Jedi could volunteer to be the handful of one to [TS]

00:59:15   serve the the chancellor of the senate or something like that but not the whole [TS]

00:59:20   order I feel like I did you know they would they were like a sort of quasi [TS]

00:59:24   independent police force which I thought was just way off for the tone and they [TS]

00:59:29   did was they bring in the whole Yuengling like this because of [TS]

00:59:34   everything i mean that that the present for that was said in the movie when the [TS]

00:59:37   shows up and databases like he's too old yes too old to be in the training as I [TS]

00:59:40   well remember when I watch a movie like to oldies like he's just just barely an [TS]

00:59:45   adult like it's it's the perfect time to that's like when you would go into the [TS]

00:59:50   army or between to order but the that comment from you and the prequels make [TS]

00:59:55   clear that the whole idea was like a get them when they're young getting like [TS]

00:59:57   pull them away from their parents to get their toddlers bring him in here and [TS]

01:00:01   then again my explanation for that in my head can it's like well you really need [TS]

01:00:05   to get them when they're young because if you left to their own devices you [TS]

01:00:08   have a serious problem so that the whole order and system is like that seems like [TS]

01:00:13   it would be the most important function of the Jedi Order would be finding these [TS]

01:00:17   people and bring them into our and training them as they could disperse [TS]

01:00:20   after they don't have to remain become a general counsel sit around and surface [TS]

01:00:23   certainly makes pronouncements you don't need to do that but once you've [TS]

01:00:26   established that very young kids get the force early and the Yoda said that we [TS]

01:00:31   need you need to be trained for me very young age I think you it's reasonable to [TS]

01:00:35   stick with that and say we've got to be there's got to be like a school like [TS]

01:00:39   zebras to school for gifted you know same thing with the x-men like if you [TS]

01:00:42   don't get them into Xavier School they might end up falling Magneto [TS]

01:00:45   even even with just the original trilogy even not even going to the prequel [TS]

01:00:49   trilogy I always thought that Yoda's protestations in that scene he was just [TS]

01:00:56   playing hard to get to make loop work that no intention a minute because even [TS]

01:01:01   in even from what we only know from the original trilogy we know that been lived [TS]

01:01:06   near Luke his entire life and that he'd sort of how do you know they'd met each [TS]

01:01:11   other before he knew his bed and you know they'd met each other before wasn't [TS]

01:01:16   the first time they met when when he rescued him from the same people so [TS]

01:01:20   obi-wan Kenobi clearly purposefully first twenty years of his life never [TS]

01:01:26   even mentioned the forced to him not even like it is like telling stories [TS]

01:01:30   like gluten even know what a lightsaber yeah they have a timing problem with the [TS]

01:01:34   prequels to of this like you to tell me that these days I were around but then [TS]

01:01:38   within one generation they're so forgotten that exist like and Luke [TS]

01:01:43   doesn't know it'll 80 as if every kid in our world where the Jedi are fictional [TS]

01:01:48   nose with a lightsaber is how in the world does in every kid nat gas like [TS]

01:01:52   even invaded killed them all before just before you were born you still didn't [TS]

01:01:56   know about it [TS]

01:01:58   carded in the same way that in the same way that we all know who the samurai [TS]

01:02:02   where the timing wise that's a problem but about one when you see all the [TS]

01:02:08   reasons set out to me because because he seems to be the perfect age and the fact [TS]

01:02:12   that you're will pull out the two old and that you know soon be ridiculous [TS]

01:02:16   like well it would say like he's too short like it would be the same time we [TS]

01:02:19   need to show he's like average height for person seems fine maybe just have to [TS]

01:02:22   be super short right so when he said he's too old he wouldn't pull that out [TS]

01:02:26   and yes he didn't wanna train was trying to back out or whatever but why put [TS]

01:02:29   something so preposterous and the answer is it's not preposterous that I actually [TS]

01:02:33   are trained from a super young age and don't usually get in by the time they're [TS]

01:02:38   they're practically an adult by then they're there to set in their ways it [TS]

01:02:42   doesn't make much sense in the country because they can buy all rationale [TS]

01:02:45   warning them young is like they should be feeling the force when they're very [TS]

01:02:49   young and by the time they get that all they'll just be like totally reckless [TS]

01:02:52   forces resolute has no idea that even [TS]

01:02:54   until 10 so let's just do things are a don't believe for a second did your dad [TS]

01:02:59   did not intend to train look he's just saying that he wants to see what I look [TS]

01:03:04   reacts that's why he's testing him know that he doesn't whatcha gonna do not [TS]

01:03:10   train lieutenant you select let the Galaxy go on being the way it is no but [TS]

01:03:14   he didn't like it out of the game is on database hanging around is looking at [TS]

01:03:18   the animals in the lizard to stop checked out just he trained was at best [TS]

01:03:26   a protestation I kinda wanna get out of bed and is Luke doesn't believe he can [TS]

01:03:42   lift the X-wing and that goes to him being 20 because he's got an experienced [TS]

01:03:47   and it's got like he he understands how heavy the other hand like yeah I'm sure [TS]

01:03:53   you did not fail you can't you don't believe in this stuff and when the [TS]

01:03:59   little kid is no problem you know you're older it's harder because the other [TS]

01:04:08   angle for him being too old I think it's the least problems with the boys [TS]

01:04:16   reckless yeah just it should be public [TS]

01:04:22   hundred years yeah it should not have been only fifteen years old and then [TS]

01:04:26   baghdad don't say that while they do say before the Empire you could have had a [TS]

01:04:29   benevolent Empire clarence but you don't know how old is he could have long [TS]

01:04:36   lifespans are in this university and he's a Jedi Yoda super old too [TS]

01:04:41   there are many outs like the chronology made sense when you just had the [TS]

01:04:45   original trilogy but when you when you connect it up in the way they did then [TS]

01:04:49   you're like than you think it's far away and stop it seriously man like you get [TS]

01:04:56   TV tells voters in each of the last practitioner to ancient you know twenty [TS]

01:05:07   years and a day when you have a computer system that old [TS]

01:05:11   I always see I always just had the vague sense just as a rock analogy and whether [TS]

01:05:17   it actually worked out but that lets say like in that scene on the Death Star [TS]

01:05:21   with the guys saying you know the last practitioner that they that at least the [TS]

01:05:26   age of the empire and the age when the Jedi word either a dominant force [TS]

01:05:31   missing or reduced to just a handful hidden around the galaxy was around the [TS]

01:05:36   length of those men ages they back I was born in a world where the Jedi were [TS]

01:05:41   already decimated you know like 35 40 years you know because if it wasn't you [TS]

01:05:47   know it's sorta like for what people like us like the world without TV like [TS]

01:05:53   we know that there was a world without TV we believe in a world without TV but [TS]

01:05:57   we don't we haven't experienced it which makes it because it predates our life [TS]

01:06:00   you know it seems freedom black-and-white TV black-and-white TV [TS]

01:06:05   seems ancient to me it's intellectually fattened kind of physically just can't [TS]

01:06:11   really picture it right whereas if I was maybe ten years older than black and [TS]

01:06:15   white TV would seem like something from a child you can go to explain the [TS]

01:06:22   chronology is the backwater thing where ya these things around but information [TS]

01:06:26   is not evenly distributed and so if you are really far away from all the action [TS]

01:06:31   and some remote planted [TS]

01:06:34   you're not interested in the history of the republic or any sort of government [TS]

01:06:38   or anything like that and maybe just you know like the general story that we [TS]

01:06:42   heard some stories demands not too far away [TS]

01:06:45   a war with them and we know about Japanese stuff in their culture came [TS]

01:06:49   over here how much culture about maybe they didn't get any older brother John [TS]

01:06:53   it still doesn't Johnson down the street he's purposely not mentioning it maybe [TS]

01:06:57   that's part of his strategy of keeping an eye on that put him in a backwater [TS]

01:07:00   where they've never even heard of the Jedi you can kind of explain it but once [TS]

01:07:04   you get like Han Solo is Jen over the galaxy and he's like never seen anything [TS]

01:07:09   that made me think before you never seen anything like it seemed like movies of [TS]

01:07:13   July thing yeah and then in the new trilogy and then again he's supposedly [TS]

01:07:20   super super powerful PC Anakin as a kid doing some things that would require the [TS]

01:07:25   force you know that if just because the jet are decimated doesn't mean that [TS]

01:07:29   human beings who have forced related powers [TS]

01:07:33   you know that you wouldn't run into him with what we can only assume to be the [TS]

01:07:36   wide variety of action that Han Solo is seen you know here to porn is is well I [TS]

01:07:43   mean and it's all things like he's good reflexes he's the only human who can [TS]

01:07:47   Padres you could just be a child proud of you have amazing reflexes you don't [TS]

01:07:50   necessarily have to he's not he's not moving salt shakers has migrated I just [TS]

01:07:55   that I just think that if a seven-year-old is showing those [TS]

01:07:57   capabilities that Han Solo would have seen something cheated dice you no doubt [TS]

01:08:07   I mean I'm the fact that it works in the context of the region attack on the [TS]

01:08:11   prequels with that time line between them and all of a sudden it just doesn't [TS]

01:08:16   read is this true [TS]

01:08:17   you have to be willfully stupid so I want to touch on some of the right [TS]

01:08:25   things that to me just clearly showed that it wasn't thought out in advance [TS]

01:08:29   and I'm going to say this before do that so many writing complaints that we can [TS]

01:08:34   do and should do and I think it's fundamental to prequels emptiness [TS]

01:08:39   I'll say though I'll forgive Lucas for the those exposition of problems like [TS]

01:08:45   like Luke not knowing what a lightsaber is of the forces I'll forgive those [TS]

01:08:48   completely because of the need to explain to us the audience what those [TS]

01:08:53   things are and yes it was a little clumsy if you try to you know if you [TS]

01:08:57   really think about it thanks a little clumsy but you know it's in hindsight [TS]

01:09:02   overall it was a good scene I remember you know very finely looking back on [TS]

01:09:06   that scene in OB one's house where he gets the lightsaber and turns it on [TS]

01:09:09   fears about the Jedi in the photo is perfectly acceptable at the prequel to [TS]

01:09:14   exist as perfect as he he really wouldn't have known as a farm boy how [TS]

01:09:17   would you know about the farmer shows up the old man the old man chosen something [TS]

01:09:20   ancient thing is it's it's it's it's a device that you get someone who is naive [TS]

01:09:26   and you have the wiser person explained to them and you really works perfectly [TS]

01:09:30   in the context of that story I think it would be a little bit more elegant if it [TS]

01:09:33   was a little bit more and I hate to say it but a little bit more like the scene [TS]

01:09:37   in the Phantom Menace we're young Anakin asked if his agenda I could seize you [TS]

01:09:44   know he sees his laser sword he doesn't even know the name lightsaber but even [TS]

01:09:49   if you just said you know just expressed some sort of I've heard of lightsabers [TS]

01:09:53   but never believed I'd see what you don't want to know about to be complete [TS]

01:10:02   me if I because he's got his art is he's a farm boy who dream something more and [TS]

01:10:06   is waterworld opens up to him so I'm perfectly happy with him not knowing at [TS]

01:10:09   all I'm explanation as delivered by Alec Guinness but so laid back and not going [TS]

01:10:14   to let a detail not mentioning declaring its like two or three sentences invade [TS]

01:10:19   it's the type of exploration you would get if these guys like I've decided that [TS]

01:10:23   I'm gonna bring on board this thing but I can't explain it all to you and give [TS]

01:10:27   you the broad strokes and move on to the next right and it's well you know Luke [TS]

01:10:32   is are you know he's there for us we see yes we we see that whole thing through [TS]

01:10:37   Luke size and up until that point the movie [TS]

01:10:40   you know it's actually it's not like this hybrid fantasy science fiction [TS]

01:10:44   combo it's more just science fiction it's just spaceships and laser guns and [TS]

01:10:49   then all of a sudden in that scene where weird explained that it's also a little [TS]

01:10:53   magic and then movie a new hope is not force him lightsabers force general I [TS]

01:10:59   guess players got my excuse to have a sword fight but like really look like to [TS]

01:11:06   my I think it's only the my tree that is that his magic you didn't even do the [TS]

01:11:10   force moves like Luke Luke dreams about is being a pilot like he wanted to fly a [TS]

01:11:16   spaceship and he's interested in the rebellion you know about the rebellion [TS]

01:11:19   he's totally understand their billions of liberal basically like he just wants [TS]

01:11:25   a big sis friend has gone off during the rebellion and he's totally into flying [TS]

01:11:30   things and be like he's he's a young punk who you know once they get off this [TS]

01:11:35   thing can rock and do great things and none of that has anything to do with the [TS]

01:11:39   four swords are stored finding a moving things your mind is totally the second [TS]

01:11:43   movie gets him into that first movie he's just like you know it's coming of [TS]

01:11:47   age story I'm going off to the war and even though he does a little bit of for [TS]

01:11:51   stuff like iran says taking the first step into a larger world he has but that [TS]

01:11:55   larger world is not yet interest him he doesn't realize the importance of it [TS]

01:11:58   until more or less he sees obi-wan disappear in a puff of smoke in and [TS]

01:12:02   starts talking to him through his you know his mind is like something to piss [TS]

01:12:06   poor thing and that aspect of it I do think was loosely plotted out by Lucas [TS]

01:12:12   we're here in this first movie the forces really just for Vader and obi-wan [TS]

01:12:16   and Luke gets a taste of it [TS]

01:12:19   few drops on his tongue you know and it helps it helps to have final victory in [TS]

01:12:25   the movie like it appalling skills are not enough and he has to you know the [TS]

01:12:30   whole big takeaway from and that's what has he done he's barely scratched the [TS]

01:12:34   surface of like he didn't find anyone like that for the whole movie right he [TS]

01:12:38   got shot in the butt a little floating ball but in the end of the movie [TS]

01:12:42   resonated so much the forced others like this in turn off your targeting computer [TS]

01:12:48   but like you know that the things they're inside you [TS]

01:12:51   your emotions and feelings and thoughts are that feels so powerful inside you [TS]

01:12:55   can actually have next time on a manifestation of that power and they [TS]

01:12:59   will lead you to victory and it will be a good victory in a blah but no one else [TS]

01:13:02   could have made that shot and I think and I know this is maybe controversial I [TS]

01:13:09   think John you and i talked about this I think that when Lucas Road Star Wars or [TS]

01:13:15   Star Wars a new hope and I think he thought if this is a hit and I get to [TS]

01:13:21   make the rest of the trilogy you know that was the whole day gotta make this [TS]

01:13:24   first one and if it's successful he said that they can write and finished in a [TS]

01:13:29   planned trilogy I think he wrote it with the idea that Luke was going to be the [TS]

01:13:33   guy who gets the girl I think so yeah it's reasonable and the first movie [TS]

01:13:40   completely supports that right I don't think there was any plan at all for [TS]

01:13:44   Leyna to be his sister did plan on Vader beings father I mean there's a whole [TS]

01:13:48   thing where voters I think the German word for father I think that might have [TS]

01:13:54   been there although I'm still not even convinced them that because when OB one [TS]

01:13:58   tells him that later he was killed by Vader it plays well in hindsight but I [TS]

01:14:06   can't help but think that from what we know of Lucas overall the keys if that's [TS]

01:14:11   what he thought overall he would have overplayed it and it would have been [TS]

01:14:13   like he killed her father so I just as it happens I just my scene just before [TS]

01:14:19   coming on this podcast and this too is you can take it one way if you look at [TS]

01:14:25   it with hindsight it is acted perfectly to be like [TS]

01:14:28   he's thinking of like what he's gonna say you know how you gonna say as he [TS]

01:14:34   knows gonna lie right there in hindsight it can look like it the other way that [TS]

01:14:37   the same performance from Alec Guinness can look is you don't tell kids what [TS]

01:14:42   happened to his father especially inspired died while I gotta tell you [TS]

01:14:47   that you know he was killed by Darth Vader and it's unpleasant and the same [TS]

01:14:52   performance really like either one of those things reads on it perfectly [TS]

01:14:55   obvious with hindsight I go to event permits but it could also just as easily [TS]

01:14:59   be a little kid is asking about his father and I know this father was killed [TS]

01:15:04   he didn't he didn't die peacefully in his sleep he was killed by Darth Vader [TS]

01:15:08   does the bad guy leading people who are you know like everything always well I [TS]

01:15:13   don't know if Lucas told Alec Guinness by the way when Lucas about what [TS]

01:15:18   happened to his father you going to be essentially line even if I can tell you [TS]

01:15:21   what did happen just follow what you gonna tell the truth I get the feeling [TS]

01:15:27   that Lucas meter reader being his father in the second one and I get the feeling [TS]

01:15:31   did he just went back in so many things and jet fuel that he just went back to [TS]

01:15:36   the well he made another Dexter that even as a kid but it kind of makes it [TS]

01:15:42   nice circle like I do hope when 3G is going to the oil bath then I forgot [TS]

01:15:50   talking to or whatever it is like you know I'm just the protocol droid and not [TS]

01:15:53   very good at telling stories like it at throwaway lines like that they get paid [TS]

01:15:57   off to movies later I guess I could but I do think that he he [TS]

01:16:02   into being the Skywalker family in general because I think he felt that he [TS]

01:16:09   needed to reveal that was akin to the one in empire but he but he did an [TS]

01:16:14   empire is that no there is another so he's gotta pay off the is there is [TS]

01:16:17   another I'm glad you didn't leave that dangling the fact that the another [TS]

01:16:20   mostly material as they build on that episode 7 days mostly nurtures like [TS]

01:16:26   basically says another which means they like best let's there to let you know [TS]

01:16:30   that Lucas easily die an empire and became pretty darn close to dying like [TS]

01:16:35   to make you think guess what guys I'm going to call me character because there [TS]

01:16:38   is another right and just so happens it turns out that he lives and in general [TS]

01:16:41   we find out who the other is but it's mostly inconsequential because hey Lucas [TS]

01:16:44   alive [TS]

01:16:45   look again at died a Jedi than the other would-be we would be hanging around on [TS]

01:16:50   for the future will be the consequence is that it makes go ballistic and yeah I [TS]

01:17:01   mean it was working to the movie just talked about making it up as you go [TS]

01:17:05   along I'm I'm willing to believe that like having major turn out to be a [TS]

01:17:09   father [TS]

01:17:10   find that works but how many surprise familiar relationships are you allowed [TS]

01:17:13   in a trilogy guess what another main characters also related to you [TS]

01:17:19   everybody related to me yeah it could have been it didn't have to be a sister [TS]

01:17:24   could have just been that later was the other one [TS]

01:17:28   latent untapped force me to meet 3 p.m. Hamas ridiculous and that's exactly what [TS]

01:17:37   he does he does like the Vulcan mind chat with leslie has escaped investment [TS]

01:17:44   yeah I know who the other is and how they relate that communication with each [TS]

01:17:51   other as you there they related for the both guys are both would be semi Plaza [TS]

01:17:57   because plenty of movies you like I just feel that my non magical movies like I [TS]

01:18:01   have something somehow my brother is in a terrible car and you know people [TS]

01:18:05   totally buy into it specially trained and we have established telepathic link [TS]

01:18:10   between people in one of them is dead man is in his ear like I guess you see [TS]

01:18:22   and I think if you look member the original posters and it's even the Star [TS]

01:18:27   Wars logo is a little different and maybe even a lot different still got [TS]

01:18:30   like the connected letters but it's like in a different almost like a pyramid [TS]

01:18:33   shape [TS]

01:18:34   and it's like there's a lot more stylized it doesn't I don't know that [TS]

01:18:40   any of the characters quite look like likenesses that the actual actors but [TS]

01:18:44   Luke is holding his lightsaber above his head and chest to get a big test coming [TS]

01:18:49   out of his leg it to me that that poster gets authorised because it's a tale of [TS]

01:18:59   this boy from a farm which is what it ended up being who goes on this grand [TS]

01:19:04   adventure and gets the girl he rescues the princess he rescues across the [TS]

01:19:10   canyon on a rope to get there like it should give him a kiss for that for luck [TS]

01:19:14   and then there's the famous kiss in on haha in your doing actual romance and [TS]

01:19:20   gentle it's like Disney movie has like Belkis the BC there is no kissing on the [TS]

01:19:28   lips it's just like all kind of understood that Lucas save the princess [TS]

01:19:32   nothing is nothing is sexual though as that poster because that was the movie [TS]

01:19:41   palaces like you have to promise even if there's no actual sex movie at the [TS]

01:19:44   promise is going to be God is going to be a girl and the girls gonna be [TS]

01:19:48   submissive Princesa wraps herself around here as leg and hear his chest is gonna [TS]

01:19:51   be gigantic and Mark Hamill stressed out of his white tunic you know it's I'm [TS]

01:20:00   looking at it now and if I'm correct and Han Han and Chewie I don't think or even [TS]

01:20:05   in it it's you know there's a big Vader behind them but it's Luke and Leia and [TS]

01:20:12   the Droid yeah and it's a good call what they like if you if your gonna call an [TS]

01:20:18   audible it's a good call it an empire so greatest because after the first movie [TS]

01:20:22   you've got you know the child fairy tale we're gonna save the princess gets its [TS]

01:20:26   way across the canyon with their they'll get medals at the end legs in a special [TS]

01:20:30   smile during the medal ceremony it's appropriate for like prepubescent boys [TS]

01:20:34   who understand the concept of giving the girls whatever but once you're about to [TS]

01:20:39   make the second movie you say you know what you know later actually the [TS]

01:20:44   bickering led [TS]

01:20:45   a better indication of a budding romantic relationship than anything that [TS]

01:20:49   happened between legs and look at that is a much more interesting relationship [TS]

01:20:52   so why don't we go in that direction and they did it was smart and sister to do [TS]

01:20:57   that because that that is the actual relationship with chemistry between [TS]

01:21:02   lukin well I don't know about at the time I was very young but you can tell [TS]

01:21:10   when when she kisses Luke that it's basically just to get on very little to [TS]

01:21:18   do with getting ready to handle put his hands behind his head gone off a girl [TS]

01:21:24   kissed me it's like it's hot as you know yet but he did not look as far as we [TS]

01:21:35   know that hasn't even had a girlfriend here where it's not you know worldly [TS]

01:21:39   wise and like he's he's not even upset with lucrative thing is like she wants [TS]

01:21:48   it basically he's resigned as she won that argument to do with the two of them [TS]

01:21:54   and that's that's exactly that's what he does not have any part of empire overlay [TS]

01:22:02   for thinking about her friend like when he's having his transit Sunday nobody's [TS]

01:22:07   like Olay like in terms of his friends is gonna save on legs got to go save his [TS]

01:22:12   friends he's not he's not hung up on led all speaking about the sort of being [TS]

01:22:18   part of a vampire [TS]

01:22:20   what I loved you know we decided we could do this said of course I want them [TS]

01:22:25   all over again [TS]

01:22:27   destroy your hand in in in the first one ends with him basically turning out in [TS]

01:22:33   saving the day helping to exceed the day and then we come immediately into Empire [TS]

01:22:40   Strikes Back and we keep building on that as soon as he finds out the Lucas [TS]

01:22:45   out in the cold [TS]

01:22:46   he's willing to die to go get him make the character progression starts exactly [TS]

01:22:51   where it ended like minded already decided it like know he's only and he's [TS]

01:22:55   committed to saving that these people are as friends and he's going to go help [TS]

01:22:58   them and also we don't know we don't need to repeat the arc immediately is [TS]

01:23:04   jumping on his see people in his continuation of the arc of a chase [TS]

01:23:09   because he's got a price on his head but he did but we don't see him being that [TS]

01:23:15   the scandal to his friends anymore he goes out for Luke and when the detective [TS]

01:23:23   base he immediately goes to get later and try to get out it's the first time [TS]

01:23:29   removed because the end of a new hope and the beginning of time during which [TS]

01:23:35   there is more like they've been together so now they're essentially not just [TS]

01:23:39   friends but warm bodies [TS]

01:23:40   hijinks and it does that to me is that the brilliant that's like Star Wars at [TS]

01:23:47   its best is the Lord Mandelson story where it's just they just mentioned it a [TS]

01:23:51   cool sounding name you know something happen you know they're just in in the [TS]

01:23:57   in the quickest way possible simply through dialogue they just imply [TS]

01:24:02   feels genuine that they've been through some shit in between the two movies in [TS]

01:24:06   mind you the bounty hunters exists in the universe which comes in later and I [TS]

01:24:15   think I can't I could do a whole show just because I think Empire I think [TS]

01:24:20   empires what holds the whole thing together I think Star Wars was clearly [TS]

01:24:23   was a huge sensation the biggest pop cultural you know the whole series [TS]

01:24:31   nothing is ever top that [TS]

01:24:33   but the one that makes it something that we keep hoping for when trend house has [TS]

01:24:40   there been a sequel is as good or better than the other godfather to think about [TS]

01:24:50   maybe aliens but here is the thing about Star Wars Empire empire took it to [TS]

01:24:56   another level like it's not just because the Godfather 1952 are at the same level [TS]

01:25:00   they're both the same kind of adults they're serious they're they're they're [TS]

01:25:05   aiming for the same type of things in the past 52 was just as good in some [TS]

01:25:08   people might say better [TS]

01:25:10   Star Wars a new hope it's like kind of more of a kids movie again with the [TS]

01:25:16   romance is not real romances very simplified it's very sort of fairy tale [TS]

01:25:20   you know is it a drag along with the kids at Empire is like action we're [TS]

01:25:25   going to take this even more serious and not in a everything is greedy you know [TS]

01:25:29   Tim Burton's Batman Dark Knight Batman Begins like everything's gonna be dark [TS]

01:25:33   and gritty river just say we're gonna have a real emotional stakes could have [TS]

01:25:37   relationships between adults did you read as true to adults rights and kids [TS]

01:25:42   will take up on the fact that the relationship between is a more [TS]

01:25:47   legitimate [TS]

01:25:47   adult relationship than anything that took place in New Hope and that's why [TS]

01:25:52   it's taking it to the next level i love u observation and then to get [TS]

01:26:07   interrupted but when they end up and include city and she's directed their [TS]

01:26:11   discreet hookup on its kind of thought of it before but you had the observation [TS]

01:26:20   that excluded slept good about that just like there's so much more relaxed around [TS]

01:26:26   each other in the release of tension yeah yeah [TS]

01:26:31   they relate to each other is that finally will they won't they [TS]

01:26:36   the answer was that they will and they did and now they can relate to each [TS]

01:26:39   other directly without their so guarded with each other before kind of like you [TS]

01:26:44   know they're trying to guard themselves but not reveal too much of themselves [TS]

01:26:47   but show that they want to get together and they go in and eventually that [TS]

01:26:50   settled down and they can finally relate to each other directly without the [TS]

01:26:56   artifice like and it happens it happens on camera and all you see is like that [TS]

01:27:00   just a familiarity in like that he's still teasing each other but it did so [TS]

01:27:05   much there's less tension going on you know up until then nothing that they've [TS]

01:27:09   said to each other is actually would either one is actually feeling exactly [TS]

01:27:12   except maybe oh you do have a few moments not many but you do have them [TS]

01:27:22   yea yea again together where they believe that both me and Mr and as often [TS]

01:27:30   happens at the same time yet but on the whole take up until then as I can take [TS]

01:27:37   you would leave you and which isn't true is obsessed and hurt angle is I'm not [TS]

01:27:42   interested in you at all which is not true she's interested even know she [TS]

01:27:45   knows she shouldn't be like if there's a line that that is honest it's her I like [TS]

01:27:51   nice man but that that brings us to to me what was the great thing about Empire [TS]

01:28:01   was it seemed as though George Lucas recognized his weaknesses and recognized [TS]

01:28:07   everything that would could have been improved in the first one and then did [TS]

01:28:13   they either took action to rectify it or or delegated so for examples tilted [TS]

01:28:19   character dialogue guess what George Lucas very creative in making stories [TS]

01:28:22   create brilliant seriously brilliant world builder probably I would argue the [TS]

01:28:28   most brilliant cinematic world builder we've ever seen like you can argue that [TS]

01:28:33   the Lord of the Rings is more fully realized but that's a novel is that it's [TS]

01:28:38   not cinema you know as a purely cinematic world would say he's imperiled [TS]

01:28:43   guess what he can't write dialogue was the Harrison Ford line george you can't [TS]

01:28:48   say you can't say it so he brings in two great screen writers Larry Kasdan who [TS]

01:28:57   guessed yet did Raiders came first [TS]

01:29:00   did great work on readers which is a fantastic story and has fantastic [TS]

01:29:05   dialogue and a fantastic relationship between Harrison Ford and Marian Rivera [TS]

01:29:12   Kansas again [TS]

01:29:15   well and talk a legend Leigh Brackett who wrote stuff for humphrey bogart and [TS]

01:29:24   yeah from the forties as forties or which is great and that's what you know [TS]

01:29:34   now that I'm older obviously in 1981 when it came out I had not seen The [TS]

01:29:38   Maltese Falcon you know I thought black-and-white movies you know old [TS]

01:29:43   people but now that I have like a richer vocabulary see movies like that that's [TS]

01:29:49   what the Empire Strikes Back crackles with Jose through most of that script [TS]

01:29:53   though like in the spirit of it still buys it like a big empire making a [TS]

01:29:58   vampire book by [TS]

01:29:58   vampire book by [TS]

01:30:00   her something bad that the big Jack coffee-table book while making a number [TS]

01:30:02   of great I recommend everybody reading that made me feel like that Lucas pick [TS]

01:30:08   these people were amazingly talented workers who are you are new or you know [TS]

01:30:11   like a pic to pick people whose work he admired and then when they set about [TS]

01:30:16   doing things either he was disengage from it or if he was engaged the feeling [TS]

01:30:20   I got from him is like guys doesn't have to be that good like that he would be [TS]

01:30:24   fine with that they were they want to make it the best it can possibly be and [TS]

01:30:28   if it up to him he black you just go home what you've got is fine like for [TS]

01:30:32   today yet that's fine whereas the people actually involved in making the movie [TS]

01:30:36   were just like we're gonna make this as good as we can possibly make it and they [TS]

01:30:40   were arguing with each other but everything right down to the actors and [TS]

01:30:42   Harrison Ford argue about Hans motivations of what he would say in the [TS]

01:30:45   scene of like very collaborative very contentious aggressive filmmaking on the [TS]

01:30:50   part of actually making the movie and it looks like it's just that it's a kids [TS]

01:30:55   movie guys just chill like you don't like it was more involved he would not [TS]

01:31:00   have been pressing people too and we see what happens when he didn't have the [TS]

01:31:03   same of everything involves like what he cared about deeply was like the design [TS]

01:31:07   of the ships and the computer graphics and stuff like that and when he cared [TS]

01:31:12   less about was like dialogue story acting performances you know of that [TS]

01:31:17   type of stuff to anyway [TS]

01:31:21   ticket average sponsor break but anybody who's looking for some good order movies [TS]

01:31:25   to watch would could do worse than some of the ones that leave bracket worked on [TS]

01:31:29   the screenplay for going backwards in time I'm just looking at her IMDB [TS]

01:31:34   credits some of the ones I've seen that I know a standout [TS]

01:31:37   the long goodbye from 1973 that was robert altman movie but to make a philip [TS]

01:31:45   marlowe detective story set in the seventies starring what's his name the [TS]

01:31:52   guy from Ola gold from young kids on them from oceans 11 like I seventies [TS]

01:32:00   take on a forties film noir which is awesome [TS]

01:32:03   probably my one of my favorite westerns ever made [TS]

01:32:08   Howard Hawks Rio Bravo you guys ever see Rio Bravo oh my god is one of the best [TS]

01:32:14   movies ever seen Dean Allen are not in Alan Dean Martin plays alcoholic [TS]

01:32:19   you don't say but it's actually to me like a pretty interesting take on [TS]

01:32:26   alcoholism in a kid's action movie you know with John Wayne as great great [TS]

01:32:32   great movie and The Big Sleep from 1946 with Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall [TS]

01:32:42   morning that's probably why you're gonna watch one of the ones I did and I know [TS]

01:32:51   you're right didn't use a large parts of her script but it definitely infused the [TS]

01:32:56   dialogue of Empire Strikes Back alright second spot sorry I mean thank our good [TS]

01:33:03   friends had fracture [TS]

01:33:06   remember fracture they were here but they responded to show while back [TS]

01:33:09   fracture is a service you send your photos to them and they print them [TS]

01:33:15   directly on glass right how many of our photos never even get printed all will [TS]

01:33:20   never look at him anywhere except I photo in your phone you don't get to [TS]

01:33:27   hang on your wall [TS]

01:33:28   you want us to bring some more photos go check out fracture they do this in an [TS]

01:33:33   amazing way with fracture you send them your photos they print them directly on [TS]

01:33:39   glass sound like a piece of paper behind glass they have decided how the hell [TS]

01:33:43   they do it I've never seen anything else like it you send your pictures they [TS]

01:33:48   print them directly on glass it's almost like the effect like the whole thing [TS]

01:33:52   like with iPhones I used to look like you had asked screen under the glass and [TS]

01:33:56   then when they first started using the screen closer to the touch you know to [TS]

01:34:00   the surface it looks like the pixels around on glass that's what fracture [TS]

01:34:03   photos they look like pictures printed directly on glass the prints come with a [TS]

01:34:08   foam back that's ready to mount right out of the box frame and desktop [TS]

01:34:13   standard something you can hang on the wall [TS]

01:34:15   all-in-one right out of the box really clever packaging frankly and it just [TS]

01:34:21   looks like no other picture that i've ever seen [TS]

01:34:25   it's a really cool gift just in time for the holidays [TS]

01:34:29   hey they're the ones who booked this week but it is if you have a future [TS]

01:34:34   gifts to give out birthdays and stuff like that seriously fracture is great we [TS]

01:34:39   do it all the time it is like the easiest to just go to think my back [TS]

01:34:42   pocket like mothers day just find a picture of my kid [TS]

01:34:45   couple fractures for all the grandmothers in the family and boom [TS]

01:34:50   there's a great gift [TS]

01:34:51   here's where you go to find out here's their website fracture me all one word [TS]

01:34:55   fracture me.com and use this code just my last name [TS]

01:35:00   grouper GRU BER and you can save 20% a whole bunch of sizes ranging from really [TS]

01:35:08   small square ones which are perfect for printing like Instagram they want to [TS]

01:35:12   save and print out [TS]

01:35:13   to its enormous Liebig all sorts of sizes great great quality you won't [TS]

01:35:20   regret it [TS]

01:35:20   use the code grouper and you'll save 20% and I know our friend michael has [TS]

01:35:28   fractured fairy his [TS]

01:35:30   makes fractures in his arrogance thanks man as well as a nice idea yeah that's [TS]

01:35:35   only useful if you come out with a new a barrier like Marco and sell the old one [TS]

01:35:39   but it's a good idea I like it is going to hurt other people say that Empire we [TS]

01:35:48   could go on and on about empire but it's there's almost no wasted exposition [TS]

01:35:52   you're just like you said you're thrust back in this world it feels like yes [TS]

01:35:56   some stuff is going on but the characters are on this exact same mark [TS]

01:35:59   that they were before I always use this word to me it epitomizes the sense of [TS]

01:36:05   comradery between the heroes of the original trilogy it's this palpable [TS]

01:36:11   sense of camaraderie which i think is so hard to capture in movies I feel like TV [TS]

01:36:17   shows do a better job of it because can do a better job of it because they have [TS]

01:36:21   so much more time right if you watch Mad Men for six seasons there's a [TS]

01:36:25   camaraderie between Roger and done because they've been through so much [TS]

01:36:30   together because we've seen them through I don't know a hundred and forty hours [TS]

01:36:36   of television whereas for Star Wars to have gotten to this palpable sense of [TS]

01:36:41   camaraderie between these characters that you truly believe it after just you [TS]

01:36:46   know two hours and 15 minutes of of them so far when honda says you know they say [TS]

01:36:54   you're never going to survive the main you as well then I'll see you in hell [TS]

01:36:56   you just believe it I believed it as a kid I'd still it chokes me up I get a [TS]

01:37:01   lump in my throat when I when he does that when I want you to feel to me like [TS]

01:37:05   it's the it's not just [TS]

01:37:06   serving the story it's that's what this guy would of course he's going of course [TS]

01:37:11   what else is unity and the way bill that camaraderie is you have to have the [TS]

01:37:16   people the ensemble cast you have to have them not sort of come together and [TS]

01:37:23   just be friends from the beginning of the you need to have them be like at [TS]

01:37:27   odds over certain things and have them but heads about those things and come to [TS]

01:37:32   some entries all those things but come to an understanding about those things [TS]

01:37:35   whatever things they disagree on I'm totally into the forest think it's great [TS]

01:37:39   you think it's hokey and with the rebellion you're not so sure about it [TS]

01:37:43   you know I'm hot I'm more calm like whatever think whatever personality [TS]

01:37:49   traits that you know don't mesh you have to show them clashing and you have to [TS]

01:37:54   show that they threw things become more important they they come to an [TS]

01:37:58   understanding about those differences in become friends and have them that go [TS]

01:38:01   through things like Johnson by men men you had to have them go through the [TS]

01:38:05   moment where they succeed in business [TS]

01:38:07   failing to score was one person is vulnerable because he's drunk and says [TS]

01:38:10   something the other person to have one or two true moments between people and [TS]

01:38:13   have like are you can even on a TV series you could have a misunderstanding [TS]

01:38:17   your betrayal that eventually you know they they figure out how to work out [TS]

01:38:21   like you have so much more time to have those things but in stars of the [TS]

01:38:25   ensemble cast in the first movie you throw these guys together didn't know [TS]

01:38:28   what to make of each other day probably never seen anybody like each other and [TS]

01:38:31   it's only characters in the next and that you know that obi-wan is there and [TS]

01:38:34   honest just you know gonna do a job that you know kind of steel city's people in [TS]

01:38:40   the old guys weird he dies in the book there when the old guy dies like you [TS]

01:38:44   have to have that I think the promise lot of ensemble movies the more modern [TS]

01:38:47   ones is your throat again this group of attractive personable well-adjusted [TS]

01:38:51   smart witty people and they just kind of walk parallel to each other side by side [TS]

01:38:56   through the plot and that does not build camaraderie yes icon it's very clear I [TS]

01:39:01   cause I just watched a new hope [TS]

01:39:02   recently and [TS]

01:39:03   it's very clear how and when he first meets them he just doesn't even believe [TS]

01:39:07   him he doesn't believe he doesn't know what the hell kind trouble there but he [TS]

01:39:10   it just is is cynical self things whatever problem whatever it is they [TS]

01:39:15   want me to take them to all around for its no big deal they're telling me it's [TS]

01:39:18   the Empire I've trust me I've seen trouble with the Empire this is bullshit [TS]

01:39:21   he doesn't believe I'm going until the 22 starters yeah actually they mentioned [TS]

01:39:26   in the cantina all he's thinking about is ripping them off and vastly over [TS]

01:39:32   charging that the incumbent upset about Empire so on is doing the thing where [TS]

01:39:38   he's talking to them and negotiate the price and Lucas being a good negotiator [TS]

01:39:43   and obi-wan stranded you know to calm down market outright they both leave the [TS]

01:39:47   table what you're left with a nap I think at that point you seen on a [TS]

01:39:51   greater and I have a neighbor you saw on dealing with these guys as like I've got [TS]

01:39:55   a passionate peres as soon as they leave the table he talks too chewy [TS]

01:39:59   person-to-person with his true self these guys me yes and at that point when [TS]

01:40:04   you see him talking with his true self you realize this guy's not such a [TS]

01:40:07   hardass right he's clearly cat cares for you to have a real relationship with [TS]

01:40:13   each other he doesn't talk to Julie like hired help you don't have a block behind [TS]

01:40:16   his bluster and everything with you as you know that sort of like this a heart [TS]

01:40:19   of gold inside the scoundrel so that's up from the very beginning and that's [TS]

01:40:24   why that's how it works out it's not like this guy as you know a hard ass and [TS]

01:40:28   then suddenly turned over a new leaf the whole movie is he's had this conflict [TS]

01:40:32   about I have to show that I'm tough on the outside but on the inside I'm [TS]

01:40:36   sentence all is going well just also that the sense that he's in some [TS]

01:40:42   financial trouble too bad but that's almost immediately after this after [TS]

01:40:49   their destructive you show up and then the next time we disagreed with me [TS]

01:41:00   that's kind of the circuit leading Indian Johnson Council blended a lot on [TS]

01:41:03   my mind is the kid because there's a lot of crossover in terms of Harrison Ford [TS]

01:41:07   playing the kind of you know going to talk his way out of a jam type of thing [TS]

01:41:12   he'll find his way out of a jam in the talks we have jimmy is able to do both [TS]

01:41:15   and he'll switch between [TS]

01:41:16   based on the situation eventually doesn't shoot nobody tried to talk his [TS]

01:41:20   way out first and if that doesn't work he setting up his shooting and I think [TS]

01:41:24   I'm getting my own self point but I think that's why it's ok that shoots [TS]

01:41:29   first is that she really did try to get out of there without any trouble and [TS]

01:41:33   only when it became really clear that greeted was just gonna shoot him and as [TS]

01:41:38   you say that sets up his moral journey that he is slightly more immoral the [TS]

01:41:43   beginning of the movie like I just care about he's trying to is trying to put up [TS]

01:41:46   a front that says I'm tough I only care about myself it's not true but that's [TS]

01:41:51   the front is trying to put up later I don't care about your ability and he can [TS]

01:41:54   actually stick to that but he's totally willing to shoot first cuz that's what [TS]

01:41:58   he's he's play acting the tough guy that he wishes he himself into a corner might [TS]

01:42:03   be in touch and it has to agree to its common like the guy in the store [TS]

01:42:09   industry doing this job i think is 11 seen an empire that I think really [TS]

01:42:19   speaks to this aspect of Hon which is easier to see if luke and looks been [TS]

01:42:24   rehabilitated in that and it back to tank and is about to go out in this snow [TS]

01:42:28   speeder to try to slow down the Imperial assault meanwhile highness on top of the [TS]

01:42:37   Falcon came back and asked about you enjoy gives me a big hug and then [TS]

01:42:45   there's just no words spoken between between hunting work they just gonna [TS]

01:42:49   smile at each other and had and it's still it's it's kind of accepting hands [TS]

01:42:57   are Irish led can't say they can't actually say anything but there is this [TS]

01:43:04   just a good connection between them in that 11 at 11 [TS]

01:43:08   there was no intention of choice not to provide any dialogue there is anything [TS]

01:43:13   you could have said what did you think was walking away from a walk away and [TS]

01:43:21   basically stopped by yelling hey but then after after he's got his attention [TS]

01:43:24   that doesn't need to be a big exactly kinda just not exact but it's not even [TS]

01:43:31   that much smoke could be but it is not what they would say that it's like take [TS]

01:43:40   care out there because you are a good friend that I like you [TS]

01:43:42   yes it's it's something like to get so many it still minimal but the way that [TS]

01:43:48   they're communicating its not attack I think it's more like a good training do [TS]

01:43:55   not mean it's not like yeah like this month it's not that it's not only those [TS]

01:44:00   carried and bringing down that wall ever so slightly exotic communicating without [TS]

01:44:07   that will be in the way but if you look on the outside that yes they take that [TS]

01:44:14   but it's it's an interesting contrast with chewy who is the actual toughest of [TS]

01:44:20   the heroes and you know the one with the bourse temper and he's the one who dis [TS]

01:44:25   lets the hugs in touch with his emotions right whales because a friend is out [TS]

01:44:32   there is much more if not feel the need to take them down like right right he [TS]

01:44:39   always lets I was asked to me [TS]

01:44:48   certainly all the way back to earlier in the show and I said that I found in D [TS]

01:44:52   for more disappointing Phantom Menace I agree with your assessment that the [TS]

01:44:57   Phantom Menace had more [TS]

01:44:59   the hope that would be good was bigger than the hope that in my thought might [TS]

01:45:04   my line of thinking on that was simply though that bill Berg it's still a very [TS]

01:45:08   talented filmmaker thought that meant you know there is a good chance it could [TS]

01:45:13   still be a good movie [TS]

01:45:14   whereas by the time Phantom Menace came out because of the special editions I [TS]

01:45:18   was already so deeply pessimistic because almost everything I would say [TS]

01:45:23   like nine out of every 10 changes in the special editions for the worse I just [TS]

01:45:28   made me think this man George Lucas has lost his fucking mind and now he's going [TS]

01:45:32   to make a home movies and everything that I thought would be go wrong because [TS]

01:45:38   of the special editions of the trilogy was exactly what the whole original [TS]

01:45:43   trilogy so I will back it is the only one that survived being special edition [TS]

01:45:49   and and i think is better for it in many ways I think the changes they made him [TS]

01:45:54   special edition pointless they did not need to be made but because empire was [TS]

01:45:59   so perfect so what can you do to it might even find things to put in like [TS]

01:46:05   well how does he get back to start a story we should see that so that stupid [TS]

01:46:10   crap used that is that is stupid but the running down to the hallways of Plant [TS]

01:46:14   City makes it look nice words you can see it when it was always that simple [TS]

01:46:19   exalting has like what can I not do because of budget or technology or time [TS]

01:46:23   or both [TS]

01:46:24   like well I couldn't have things through the windows and paint them all whites [TS]

01:46:26   are put something like that being overweight when I was a kid I didn't [TS]

01:46:31   feel like a wire the walls opaque I thought like this is a weird [TS]

01:46:34   futuristic-looking set where they changed it jumped out to me and she [TS]

01:46:39   didn't make it worse it was it was the movie that didn't get worse for being so [TS]

01:46:43   it didn't get a free because who cares about it like it's my we get to see them [TS]

01:46:46   fly into cloud city doesn't fit in with the rest of the movie that sticks out [TS]

01:46:50   you don't need it but like there was so little they had to do it entirely new [TS]

01:46:54   musical numbers for example you know they weren't that during major plot [TS]

01:46:59   points like having agreed oh shoot it like there was no they didn't load up [TS]

01:47:03   twenty more [TS]

01:47:04   ads in the battlefield I wish I could have more things going on in the [TS]

01:47:09   hospital not doing things and a half thousand was appropriate it was fine you [TS]

01:47:13   don't need to have the background to and then we have a whole other second [TS]

01:47:17   section where we fly around I couldn't be cleaned up the madeleines had a few [TS]

01:47:22   things here and there they showed that I'm getting didn't remember but they [TS]

01:47:29   redid them outlines for wasn't called special edition but they did a [TS]

01:47:32   cleaned-up Effects version of it I don't remember would release it was for maybe [TS]

01:47:35   but they they did go back and clean up a lot of the worst of the optical mapping [TS]

01:47:42   and that was the approach like that's why I kind of had high hopes the special [TS]

01:47:46   missions because it was kind of like it's going to be more of that stuff is [TS]

01:47:49   going to be like things that we're limitations of technology behind with [TS]

01:47:52   the mountain lions were super annoying over there was some of you member but in [TS]

01:47:56   this news feed is used to be able to see through the copied into the slightly [TS]

01:48:00   translucent and opaque now because that's changing the movie and it's a [TS]

01:48:06   special edition like insert entirely new food and I i remember and I believe it [TS]

01:48:12   too as I read that with the mat lines on the space ships like in the dog fighting [TS]

01:48:17   in a new hope when it was theatrically shown originally they might you might [TS]

01:48:23   have to squint see them but just because of the nature between projecting versus [TS]

01:48:27   the home video transfer they were nowhere near as noticeable lot of it was [TS]

01:48:31   really just that it was the first home video transfer was too light they blew [TS]

01:48:35   out the blacks whereas everything looked at it was a lot richer black it wasn't [TS]

01:48:40   like wow I don't remember seeing those lines around type theater fighters when [TS]

01:48:43   I was a kid who didnt yeah but anyway that was my tears I tend to mean nothing [TS]

01:48:50   epitomizes it more than the hot-shooting first and I know it's a cliche I know [TS]

01:48:54   it's like a super popular t-shirt shop first [TS]

01:48:58   but I feel like it's one of those things that it's a cliche because it really [TS]

01:49:02   does it it's a way to just put your finger on everything that's wrong with [TS]

01:49:06   the special editions because it seems to me this is where I put it is it's almost [TS]

01:49:11   as though like if George Lucas its old star wars to Disney in ninety-three and [TS]

01:49:16   end is needed the exact same things you'd be like oh my god [TS]

01:49:21   corporation doesn't know jack shit I don't even understand Star Wars and [TS]

01:49:25   ruining this great then it's almost mind-boggling that it was all done by [TS]

01:49:30   the guy who made it makes sense to me because the guy who made it got older [TS]

01:49:35   the same thing that happened on the walkie talkies ETV it's like about both [TS]

01:49:38   people are like I'm I'm very well known for this famous movie now I'm an older [TS]

01:49:42   person and when I go back and look at the movie and I made when I was younger [TS]

01:49:45   man I i feel differently about it and if I was making it today would make it [TS]

01:49:48   differently and I feel it's it's too harsh for 400 should first be as hot as [TS]

01:49:53   sympathetic character and you start our driver and like the whole lesson for [TS]

01:49:58   this is fine then make a different movie now this is the movie you made when you [TS]

01:50:02   were a young man and a young man and if you go back and change that like that is [TS]

01:50:09   the worst movies like I know that you have changed if you have changed making [TS]

01:50:13   new art that expresses where you are today but don't and the fact that his [TS]

01:50:17   contemporary spielberg did the same thing with et oh it's too upsetting that [TS]

01:50:20   the people chasing after you have shotguns put a walkie-talkie in there [TS]

01:50:23   that's how you feel now is a 56 year old man butt kicking back and change a thing [TS]

01:50:28   you made when you did you go back and change that back to guns and he's also [TS]

01:50:33   you know George it's the same impulse because the people who made the movie [TS]

01:50:39   got older and they still have the creative control to say you know what I [TS]

01:50:43   want to make a new version this movie that better reflects Who I am today and [TS]

01:50:46   make a new movie for you are then when you were a different person and I agree [TS]

01:50:54   with both of you are saying the same thing which is that [TS]

01:50:56   you know you would have to write an entirely different scene tonight because [TS]

01:51:02   the thing if you if you've seen the film even once you can see that that he tries [TS]

01:51:06   to talk his way out of it he realizes he doesn't end there is no way out for him [TS]

01:51:10   other than to shoot credo is going to kill him right now over my dead body [TS]

01:51:14   that's the idea I mean he's prepping he's he's a Cajun person he's prepping [TS]

01:51:19   for the whole time hes like he's not going to say oh after I feel talk myself [TS]

01:51:22   out of it then think of a plan B plan B is already ready already be ready cuz [TS]

01:51:26   that's how he lived this long in this business it feels like a change that was [TS]

01:51:29   mandated by like Disney corporate you know like we we can't have a hero shoot [TS]

01:51:34   first [TS]

01:51:35   barely can be to take out the blackface well I'm just upset about I'm just say [TS]

01:51:45   no it feels like somebody outside the film who hadn't even seen it is just [TS]

01:51:49   holding up a check lock necklace that says heroes can't do this I feel like [TS]

01:51:54   somebody from like there what is that thing the something parents association [TS]

01:51:58   is right to the SEC to sort of like an old person who was like Oh kids these [TS]

01:52:05   days and they're cursing and baggy pants and we really need to stop and money [TS]

01:52:09   like that type of that type of idea that older people who are uncomfortable with [TS]

01:52:14   things that younger people think are cool I guess you know it's just too [TS]

01:52:19   harsh and for that character feels like Han Solo is is a lovable likable good [TS]

01:52:23   character and he would never do something that bad whereas younger [TS]

01:52:26   filmmaker anyone who would like to say is good people do bad things people grow [TS]

01:52:30   the same reason you know that he was like when he was younger and less wise [TS]

01:52:36   and you know and when I made the movie that's the character I made and now on [TS]

01:52:40   is older and more wise and kinder and he has changed but you can't retroactive to [TS]

01:52:43   go back to make yourself it's like retroactive going back in your own life [TS]

01:52:46   and not do stupid things when you're a teenager that's part of who you are [TS]

01:52:51   we haven't spoken much about Return of the Jedi just the opening where Luke you [TS]

01:52:57   know sort of such an airline and maybe what I would do in terms of the dark [TS]

01:53:04   side so that movie that movie I think the more I watch it as I get older the [TS]

01:53:10   more I like yeah I don't love it and it's nowhere near it doesn't make me [TS]

01:53:14   anywhere near as happy as Star Wars or Empire does but I almost feel like I [TS]

01:53:18   don't know how else so I put it above stores for me just because it's like [TS]

01:53:30   Empire took up to the next level say here's a movie this appreciate for all [TS]

01:53:33   ages [TS]

01:53:34   sophisticated story emotion things for adults in it and also kids will love it [TS]

01:53:39   that brought up to the adult level Jedi things back down a little bit with the [TS]

01:53:43   UART business but I feel like the culmination of the arc how this story [TS]

01:53:46   ends with the whole angled like Luke movie heroes never do which is pacifism [TS]

01:53:52   is the victory like that never happened pacifist are wimps nobody want to pass [TS]

01:53:57   by John McClain to shoot the guy you want the cop who is guilty about [TS]

01:54:02   shooting and drop drop drop him off the roof the cop who felt bad you couldn't [TS]

01:54:07   pick up is gonna get a shot that kid to get his gun back and say now I'm [TS]

01:54:11   confident that I can shoot people again like pacifism never wins can you think [TS]

01:54:15   of any other movie anywhere where pacifism least get the kind of a junk [TS]

01:54:20   bond trader does that thing maybe guys like you know like that is the struggle [TS]

01:54:27   the end it is a sophisticated struggle in emotional struggle between Luke not [TS]

01:54:33   giving in to his anger and fighting fighting Vader and the moment when when [TS]

01:54:38   Luke is winning the fight which is what you want the good guy to do in most [TS]

01:54:41   movies gives you rooting for the tide beat the bad guy good guy beat the dog [TS]

01:54:44   may be down for the count could go beyond the report is gonna come back and [TS]

01:54:48   he's strong he's going to be the bad guy that's when that's happening in general [TS]

01:54:52   I that's the best you like no don't do [TS]

01:54:55   bring little kids along and that journey to bring little kids along to the point [TS]

01:55:01   where they're sad when the good guys beating the bad guy I think it's a nice [TS]

01:55:06   message I think it's a message that it never ever seen and I think the [TS]

01:55:09   sophistication of that culmination yes they do blockbuster game but the [TS]

01:55:12   sophistication of the resolution of her story [TS]

01:55:16   elevates the rest of that movie ok I so I totally agree with you in terms of [TS]

01:55:21   Luke sorry and yes that is the most satisfactory and ultimately teams they [TS]

01:55:27   do and always good to know you don't think that it's not just you care about [TS]

01:55:39   you know how you can do is find someone else to ship you can't like the three [TS]

01:55:44   fronts thing people down the planet people in the space station in the Death [TS]

01:55:48   Star the coordination between those three lines of action is I think very [TS]

01:55:52   well done I tend to do him any other movies I think this is you know in a [TS]

01:55:57   modern devices like that all the time the multiple lines of action culminating [TS]

01:56:00   round one thing but this was an early occurrence and I think the balance [TS]

01:56:04   between the three parlance is this just very nice sometimes when they're not [TS]

01:56:08   that interested but at least it's all connected in a way that you understand [TS]

01:56:11   it but it is so if anything it could just as well I'm just going to say that [TS]

01:56:18   it makes sense not scientifically not like you're really trying to think it [TS]

01:56:22   through but if you just go with the flow of Star Wars level logic makes sense [TS]

01:56:26   that all three things are simultaneously yeah I mean just as an avid relying on [TS]

01:56:32   each other like this this this cast that we've come to know and if they've been [TS]

01:56:35   with each other they're ensemble cast their friends they are spread out to [TS]

01:56:40   different missions for this final battle here and there are relying entirely upon [TS]

01:56:44   doesn't get that she'll down they can't do the attack and if it doesn't hamper [TS]

01:56:48   inside there doesn't matter because you know if he gets turned then the globe [TS]

01:56:52   this star but then they have a problem anyway the Emperor will survive the only [TS]

01:56:55   person killed the Emperor's mayor so they're all depend on each other and [TS]

01:56:59   their leverage of Emperor saying all your friends out that you think there we [TS]

01:57:03   know about their plan they're screwed like it all so I [TS]

01:57:07   completely against the the last thirty second half of them is great he's [TS]

01:57:15   amazing [TS]

01:57:16   the ship battles good surprise appearance at the bulk of the [TS]

01:57:21   beautifully amazing the shield being up and all of those ships have dodged [TS]

01:57:25   amazing everything's great and love it and you told anybody coming together [TS]

01:57:30   generated me start so the world's most inane [TS]

01:57:36   repeatedly plan of leg what the hell are you doing so you can you give the Droid [TS]

01:57:42   2 job and you've got Lando embedded and then you handle that then wait and you [TS]

01:57:52   had to redo baka and then you try to get released but here's the thing and you [TS]

01:58:03   you thought you were going at dragged her son so that aren't EDT would be [TS]

01:58:07   serving drinks and jettison like a lightsaber to use you could not have it [TS]

01:58:13   is the stupidest plan in their outgunned right because the people are going after [TS]

01:58:18   Han is not the entire day coming down right and so they can frontal assault is [TS]

01:58:25   not going to work so they seem to have planned abcd to have a lot of things [TS]

01:58:30   going on here there people in better there they have the droids [TS]

01:58:33   goes there like he's planned you know he's prob his primary plans for you you [TS]

01:58:38   know talked his way we can get maybe we can get him out with these guys were [TS]

01:58:40   embedded if they can't send in Luke but don't send in the lightsaber because [TS]

01:58:43   Lucas group we need to have a viable so smuggled out and are too right it's a [TS]

01:58:48   lot of contingency plans and basically all their continued season needed to be [TS]

01:58:52   there because everything goes wrong and they're at the brink of death and their [TS]

01:58:56   final continues he was looking get out of this paper we do have his lightsaber [TS]

01:59:01   like yeah I don't see them as contingencies so much is likely going to [TS]

01:59:04   set up a bunch of things that may be useful and maybe it'll all work out but [TS]

01:59:09   that's a good opening seems like a good bond opening scene it's like it yes [TS]

01:59:13   exactly [TS]

01:59:16   mind opening scene is a little bit contrived but you get to see you got to [TS]

01:59:19   resolve the movie and second of all it's it's like a series of fun action set [TS]

01:59:25   pieces it's like you know three bond you've got the satellite pit and then [TS]

01:59:32   you've got a lot of like entry good people in this sadly sorry gonna keep [TS]

01:59:36   the only Star Wars movie that doesn't have any scenes on Tatooine [TS]

01:59:42   right and here they are back on Tatooine and instead of feeling at that time [TS]

01:59:47   because at that point fifty percent of All Star Wars movies had scenes on [TS]

01:59:51   Tatooine just just the one here it is it it felt like a you know started on [TS]

01:59:58   Tatooine need to know shit about the force now he's back on Tatooine and he's [TS]

02:00:01   felt like a closer just closing the loop on high on being kidnapped and frozen in [TS]

02:00:08   carbonite your closing the loop on Luke's childhood my setup the rest of [TS]

02:00:15   the arc of the movie though because he the end of empire and he's defeated [TS]

02:00:19   hands cut off is a mess emotionally to stand out various father he is at his [TS]

02:00:24   low you see him and just like who is this guy was drenched in sweat with his [TS]

02:00:29   hand cut off and with my crap now these guys confidently strolling into here [TS]

02:00:33   behind strangling people that's going in he's like super powerful like wow I [TS]

02:00:40   guess his his art is done and you find out his art is not done because what [TS]

02:00:44   he's going to deal with now is also you think you're the master even know what [TS]

02:00:48   the actual battle is against your nature of not using your newfound powers for [TS]

02:00:52   evil that is the actual bed and that's why he goes back to you it is like how [TS]

02:00:55   you think your agenda I'd know you have to face murder why does it matter it's [TS]

02:00:59   not like some trial and you had to understanding of music is like you had [TS]

02:01:03   to face better because that shows you the best guy because you have to you [TS]

02:01:08   have to deal with the whole dark side angle like to remember your failure in [TS]

02:01:11   the cave you have to pay spader to show that you really do you really are on the [TS]

02:01:15   light side of the force and not the dark side the only way to do this a test [TS]

02:01:18   yourself against someone that you totally want to kill and not do it I [TS]

02:01:23   agree with a guy that logically probably should've gone in with them [TS]

02:01:28   you know that the whole idea that instead of going with the lady bra [TS]

02:01:32   smuggling in our two and I'll just assume that if and when I really need it [TS]

02:01:36   will be in because if he's gotta kill every man woman and child in Jabba's [TS]

02:01:41   palace is going to run out of there with a gigantic army buddy grab somebody's [TS]

02:01:46   gonna interests of blacks jam in the face that is not nice to tease [TS]

02:01:52   improvising at that point because he's trying to shoot an unknown began in the [TS]

02:01:56   face that is trying to negotiate his way out of this thing and then I go actually [TS]

02:02:01   we're gonna send you into the pit he tries to get out of it like things don't [TS]

02:02:04   go well for him and isn't isn't that the first time in the movies we've skies we [TS]

02:02:08   you know the whole whole original trilogy is relatively light on Jedi [TS]

02:02:13   action you know it's the first time we've seen the Jedi mind trick not work [TS]

02:02:18   and that's what we learn that it only works well no action to force can have a [TS]

02:02:27   powerful influence on the original trilogy really good at paying off things [TS]

02:02:32   are in ways that are not patient about now have something in the beginning of [TS]

02:02:38   the movie and they're going to pay it off at the end of a very really do have [TS]

02:02:41   something in one movie impaled on a second movie and the Star Wars trilogy [TS]

02:02:44   has tons of things in the first movie to do not get paid off until two movies [TS]

02:02:48   later which nobody had the guts to do it may be like the big bucks now that they [TS]

02:02:53   have any but even that is like you're much more sure that they set up so much [TS]

02:02:56   stuff and Jabba the Hutt himself to set up a new hope I would have been in the [TS]

02:03:00   mood to head the tire budget didn't put him in the second movie he's in the [TS]

02:03:03   third [TS]

02:03:04   yeah pay off the debt that would remove first scene we meet Han Solo 40 minutes [TS]

02:03:10   in a new hope we don't pay it off until Dec 22 ya know they say that death was [TS]

02:03:20   the general says I get that sense yet but I don't mention [TS]

02:03:25   and I think Luke's idea that hey I'll try the Jedi mind trick on maybe this [TS]

02:03:32   would be easy job of it you have to end up puncturing looks company comes in as [TS]

02:03:41   a dark hooded figure who could this be a Nike works any super confident you'll [TS]

02:03:45   give it to me and I congratulate things fall apart but he gets kinda like how we [TS]

02:03:49   do it you know same as usual and that bad huh [TS]

02:03:51   that point like his his confidence in boston has been pierced his back to the [TS]

02:03:56   old like a balloon was like well he's more powerful now but things really are [TS]

02:04:00   going well in the gym and that's what said yeah yeah yeah [TS]

02:04:13   his twisted headed consiglio yeah I'm sure people yelling at us right now my [TS]

02:04:20   only problem with the opening scene which I agree piecewise even more than [TS]

02:04:24   the battle which is almost more of like an opening act because it involves [TS]

02:04:28   everything from you know getting captured by the way to the whole battle [TS]

02:04:34   that to me that the job is seen pace wise feels like a blonde my way that [TS]

02:04:44   both yes No [TS]

02:04:47   good says this is not a sign of things to come home which is a little respect [TS]

02:04:56   that well I just don't understand you know they knew they knew there was a lot [TS]

02:05:08   of slapstick humor and slapstick that which i think for the most part works [TS]

02:05:13   but the fact that bubble that gets wrapped up in a slapstick and that ends [TS]

02:05:17   up being his death is a shame he's the only guy that can go toe-to-toe with the [TS]

02:05:20   Jetta and he looks normal he's crafty and waiting for a moment like he's [TS]

02:05:27   established is not the toughest found 200 but the smartest the street exactly [TS]

02:05:32   an empire that establishes and he doesn't even get taken out my purpose [TS]

02:05:36   taken out by a blind and he either should not have been there at all and [TS]

02:05:44   just leave you know he's not there or he should have gotten away [TS]

02:05:47   well I mean I'm ok with cutting his gun in half because like well you up against [TS]

02:05:51   a Jedi [TS]

02:05:51   that can happen I'm not OK with the way he died but they made it even worse by [TS]

02:05:58   having him into their musical scene that they acted like they just keep making [TS]

02:06:02   bombs if it well they did in the original run he just gives the little [TS]

02:06:06   not the sexy girl dancing yeah yeah you know and listening even get into Jango [TS]

02:06:16   Fett no character well you know and the only thing I'll say about returning to [TS]

02:06:26   me the weak spot is the whole thing on and/or moon then it doesn't and it's it [TS]

02:06:37   partly just that the Holy walk there was where the merchandising started getting [TS]

02:06:41   out of hand because it was like have you heard this I don't know how much this [TS]

02:06:46   apocryphal and I'm which is true but that the toys that already been put into [TS]

02:06:49   production before they made the costumes in the costumes were like just [TS]

02:06:53   incredibly hot and just get really limited actors ability to move that's [TS]

02:06:59   why they just sort of water that a walk [TS]

02:07:02   hadn't heard that I had heard that eventually is going to be too pushy yeah [TS]

02:07:08   yeah well which would have been a lot cooler but you will get a constructive [TS]

02:07:12   you can't believe that right and there's just a silliness to it that these little [TS]

02:07:17   furry you know to talk creatures are beating stormtroopers literally I do [TS]

02:07:22   like the insurgents people insurgent one of the characters that are mostly for [TS]

02:07:31   kids and don't have much value for adults I do like the notion that you [TS]

02:07:36   represent nature the imperial troops represent I get some kind of [TS]

02:07:42   technological terror acts like an insurgent force against yes much more [TS]

02:07:47   dominant military force the fact that insurgents could ya its native American [TS]

02:07:52   Union [TS]

02:07:56   the same type of territory that was tried much more seriously about star [TS]

02:07:59   Galactica yes and I feel like the other thing that was evident with the whole [TS]

02:08:06   segment is that they had these characters Han and Leia who we wanted to [TS]

02:08:14   see more of and with a just so we got these scenes with them having this [TS]

02:08:19   action salt on the shield generator whereas the real world really matter [TS]

02:08:24   what was left to really matter in the story was the other two angles which was [TS]

02:08:28   the big space battle with the elite the two fleets fighting each other and you [TS]

02:08:34   know and then primarily the Luke later Emperor yeah I mean the whole and/or [TS]

02:08:38   thing in addition to being silly just because they're literally walks it it [TS]

02:08:43   really felt a little force because it's like well we just want more on in late [TS]

02:08:46   whenever the guerrilla actions supporting the larger things like you [TS]

02:08:51   got to deactivate the shield generator which is in a remote place you gonna [TS]

02:08:54   send a small straight into the city or stealth mission that's why go on is in [TS]

02:08:58   danger in the mission you shouldn't have come as they could sense it does peter [TS]

02:09:01   Chase [TS]

02:09:02   the Redwoods that's also in there ya go if it's a lot better than like the pod [TS]

02:09:08   racing scene which is just this hold giant digression whereas the the the [TS]

02:09:14   speeder bikes in the moon was just a really cool actions and then it's like [TS]

02:09:18   you know the whole idea that stealth and so it's jam they're coming yes script [TS]

02:09:23   used to say we won't have a chase scene in the states of the chase scene areas [TS]

02:09:27   if you like he's got a scathing tell-all empire that you're down here nevermind [TS]

02:09:30   that point the audience but there's a reason for the chase scene as a reason [TS]

02:09:34   for the desperation is basically hide-and-seek we don't want the Empire [TS]

02:09:38   tonight we're down here some people start getting us the whole thing you [TS]

02:09:40   think you got them all then you see two other guys get off on spear bikes then [TS]

02:09:43   you get a jump on his bed about to make sure they don't get so used to bother me [TS]

02:09:47   as a kid and only recently have I come around to the thought that maybe Lucas [TS]

02:09:51   actually this is like his last hurrah he knew what he was doing and it's actually [TS]

02:09:54   pretty good character development and screenwriting is it always bothered me [TS]

02:09:59   as a kid that in Empire Vader doesn't really want to even really just doesn't [TS]

02:10:06   wanna kill Luke he wants to turn Luke and doesn't want to turn in for the [TS]

02:10:09   Emperor [TS]

02:10:10   I think he truly and sincerely mean when he says join me in a prior to possess [TS]

02:10:17   the whole but it's only an empire he doesn't even make the offer in return of [TS]

02:10:22   the Jedi [TS]

02:10:23   takes custody Luke and at that moment retakes custody Luke any any it takes [TS]

02:10:28   his lightsaber he says he was carrying this certainly gives his lightsaber [TS]

02:10:32   and it's the little I've said this before another podcast it's one of my [TS]

02:10:35   favorite little moments in all of the whole series is what is Vader do when he [TS]

02:10:39   gets Luke's lightsaber [TS]

02:10:41   of course he turns it on and he tries it odd little just waves around feels that [TS]

02:10:45   way it's nice to ride a skateboard I was a teenager you get somebody else to [TS]

02:10:49   skateboard what he did you know you may not take it all the way around the block [TS]

02:10:53   you just try it out see what it's like you know the whole father son angle like [TS]

02:10:57   you coming in the beginning like an empire it's like oh my god daughter is [TS]

02:11:03   my father was a dramatic revelation said about and so on so forth but I'm Jenna [TS]

02:11:07   comes around you're looking at it from the other direction Vader's going Lucas [TS]

02:11:11   is known as always somebody now he's like I've seen my son this is my son if [TS]

02:11:15   your son made a lightsaber you be kind of proud of my son made pretty good [TS]

02:11:19   lightsaber here you know like you training is complete if you are [TS]

02:11:22   internally a sinking feeling person and you meet up with your son like this [TS]

02:11:28   feeling you're gonna be there like the fatherly feelings are gonna be there and [TS]

02:11:31   that is the feeling that Vader has in general you know there is no conflict [TS]

02:11:34   but there is in the conflict is that you know my son is actually pretty cool and [TS]

02:11:38   I wanted to join me in the last one that was me rationalizing my I can still be [TS]

02:11:42   even still have my son here when it's clear that my son is never join you [TS]

02:11:45   right chris is not gonna join me I'm not to go home killing my son is actually [TS]

02:11:50   pretty cool things and I feel ashamed of the things that I've done in front of my [TS]

02:11:54   son too late for me son boba that conflict is present and because dr. [TS]

02:11:58   wears a mask progetto I you get to be like is Luke like wishing that was there [TS]

02:12:03   is not really in our theater you know and like many times like you know he [TS]

02:12:07   tries to come with me follow we can go and get nothing from his face mask is it [TS]

02:12:14   doesn't change expression and he is totally wrong about that is that is that [TS]

02:12:20   when he turns later in the tournament he walks out CNN and just call him father [TS]

02:12:25   immediately yeah I down the hole that I always thought I saw as a kid was that [TS]

02:12:37   why does invader try to make the same offer again and just be like look I give [TS]

02:12:41   you a lightsaber back let's go kill this guy [TS]

02:12:43   you and I have our differences we can sort them out of the hole you know i i [TS]

02:12:49   was threatening to kill you trying to kill you still turn me down like that [TS]

02:12:53   happen now and then watching it again recent years I think that that's [TS]

02:12:56   actually the way it play it plays out and it also fits with the way that Luke [TS]

02:13:02   is clearly a more mature character and and Morgan posed at the beginning even [TS]

02:13:07   just a beginning of Return of the Jedi then he was that thats that scene on [TS]

02:13:13   Bespin in Cloud City that was Vader's chance to win just the fact that he [TS]

02:13:16   surrenders willingly handovers late too strong to patrol shows her resolve in [TS]

02:13:26   Luke did I think they recognize he won't be able to bring optimistic he thought [TS]

02:13:31   he thought he could turn later he was right in the end but he thought he could [TS]

02:13:34   be there is good in him I felt that when he feels he felt today at the end of [TS]

02:13:38   empire invader freshly minted could have killed him and then went when I was [TS]

02:13:44   going off is like their communicate telepathically as father and son right [TS]

02:13:48   that's the point where you feel the same good because he is not communicate [TS]

02:13:51   telepathically pointed to get you when I see you next time I'm not only that one [TS]

02:13:57   of my favorite parts of empire is when the fuckin finally jumped into [TS]

02:14:02   hyperspace invader doesn't kill anybody to you did everything it'll do you did [TS]

02:14:11   everything it did go it didn't work out but my son got away and kind of [TS]

02:14:16   depressed and I can't even be bothered to murder anybody at this point it's an [TS]

02:14:22   emotional moment for changes in its not even that much body language when you've [TS]

02:14:28   got it just turns around and walks Jetta dot dot head there was constant killing [TS]

02:14:33   people I you know the frustrated hot-headed was consulate killing people [TS]

02:14:35   because he wasn't getting what he wanted nothing can get him what he wanted here [TS]

02:14:39   because what he wants [TS]

02:14:42   for some reason the helmet is oddly expressive is certain and I want to [TS]

02:14:48   write write you know I think it's all tied with musical cues but it like the [TS]

02:14:55   whole first movie it just looks like the most evil bad as you can imagine there [TS]

02:15:00   are some differences I know that in the next to it was a lot more polished he [TS]

02:15:05   changes and they had a problem in the original one of getting the eyes to be [TS]

02:15:11   completely black and OPA like sometimes there is there a little bit lighter gray [TS]

02:15:14   and it was little Empire think is the best Vader because it is it is sleek and [TS]

02:15:20   menacing but like you said also there is more body language no more expressive [TS]

02:15:24   reaching out with his hand he's able to act more with his body empire also in in [TS]

02:15:30   in in Empire his keep seems to not cover his shoulders a lot like you see those [TS]

02:15:35   big massive shock waves behind them and there's wind like you've got like the [TS]

02:15:40   body language of Vader when you know the surprise dinner with leaving them open [TS]

02:15:45   the doors that made her standing at the head of the table [TS]

02:15:48   Chancellor Angela text ya proudest moment it should just start shooting [TS]

02:15:58   that's what you do this it's that's the answer isn't worried [TS]

02:16:06   James Bond James Bond James Bond sequences are the sequences in which [TS]

02:16:12   bond bond reacts in the appropriate way before the audience has time to think [TS]

02:16:18   about what the appropriate way exactly he's the one who's been in the situation [TS]

02:16:21   made everything you still alive is because he immediately knows what to do [TS]

02:16:24   and there's not a lot of reaction shot what should I do [TS]

02:16:28   blog bond is a man of action he knows when it's called for action to catch the [TS]

02:16:33   audience by surprise is the kind of so that everybody wants to think they're [TS]

02:16:38   gonna pinch but that's the only time I think we've ever seen [TS]

02:16:45   just catches a bunch of little balls which is super badass the ramping up of [TS]

02:16:54   what is possible but the force you know we knew that you could block blaster [TS]

02:17:01   bolts with the lightsaber but he doesn't put his hands and it shows that he's we [TS]

02:17:04   don't we don't see that we don't see that too actually a special like Yoda [TS]

02:17:09   moves lots of stuff [TS]

02:17:10   shows that it is powerful but he's not teaching Luke like you know karate moves [TS]

02:17:15   or like how to chop things is not a lot of things and think about where he's [TS]

02:17:19   showing them fancy lightsaber chopsticks so so the dark side force like what [TS]

02:17:26   would you do if you were not in the School of how the forces all about and [TS]

02:17:31   that could involve things with your hands and a third movie shooting [TS]

02:17:35   lightning bolts out of your hands like we don't know where how far this this [TS]

02:17:38   leveling tree goes but if I would almost say that it comes a horror movie where [TS]

02:17:44   you don't you know let the monster something happens and what you want to [TS]

02:17:53   show their as being a man of action and not go I knew I would find to be that [TS]

02:17:58   stupid to block right and also shown that may have that inclination but he is [TS]

02:18:03   not of the magic using his everything he can do it is like a child's toy doubt [TS]

02:18:10   he'll block a few things then take on the gun safe please [TS]

02:18:13   down because you you going to be so it's never been clear to me that I'm not [TS]

02:18:25   quite sure though if that that move of blocking the blaster with your hand as [TS]

02:18:28   we never see that even in the clone or where the general [TS]

02:18:32   it might be because he's got robot that's what I was thinking I'm not sure [TS]

02:18:35   I'm just going to go with the forces that i'm gonna go with a little bit ago [TS]

02:18:44   a little bit column a little bit column be at both like maybe Vader's the only [TS]

02:18:47   guy you could maybe [TS]

02:18:49   script your hand if you had a bill and either way you got a row exists as a [TS]

02:19:02   small small observation this is such a small detail but it seems as though the [TS]

02:19:08   advances in what would you call it what you call it like like when somebody gets [TS]

02:19:17   artificial limb prosthetics press the heck technology advanced significantly [TS]

02:19:24   in the twenty do you think it's the only technology like one is most like humans [TS]

02:19:32   and the other one is can you make me into machine of War two different goals [TS]

02:19:36   away with it to me when he's got ya yeah I'm not even talking about being young [TS]

02:19:44   and you know it was like brass kind of like art deco steampunk kind of things [TS]

02:19:53   like Luke went to a nice cosmetic surgery [TS]

02:20:01   patty garlic steam steam engine it has to be used [TS]

02:20:06   how we doing on time I know that it's getting late 15 more minutes [TS]

02:20:20   sponsor at the very least I want I want John to get a good night's sleep [TS]

02:20:42   tomorrow you know where to get off [TS]

02:20:47   well I mean take one more break and thank our third sponsor it's our good [TS]

02:20:56   friends at Casper Casper Casper is an online retailer of premium mattresses [TS]

02:21:03   and sound for a fraction of the price now first time I heard this I thought [TS]

02:21:07   holy shit is crazy I would buy a mattress online [TS]

02:21:11   well guess what makes a lot of sense it's almost like you know eventually [TS]

02:21:15   we're gonna buy everything online whenever you have to leave the house the [TS]

02:21:19   mattress industry is so crooked it's ridiculous you go from one mattress [TS]

02:21:24   store to another you can't compare prices because the series they sell in [TS]

02:21:28   one story all have different model names from another store and are all marked up [TS]

02:21:32   and there's cartel few high-priced manufacturers who collaborate together [TS]

02:21:38   to keep prices high it's it's just a racket and it's a real pain in the ass [TS]

02:21:44   if you've ever done it so what do you do you go to Casper and it's so much easier [TS]

02:21:49   they don't make you choose between stuff you don't understand they have one kind [TS]

02:21:52   of mattress it's a hybrid that combines latex foam and memory foam [TS]

02:21:57   new mattresses in retail stores typically cost over 1500 bucks casper [TS]

02:22:03   mattresses cost between 500 for a twin size mattress 754 full-size 854 queen [TS]

02:22:10   and just nine hundred and fifty bucks for a king size mattress now how do you [TS]

02:22:16   get a mattress ship to your house this is the part that baffled me I had no [TS]

02:22:19   idea they vacuum packed these things using I don't even know how they do it [TS]

02:22:23   but it comes it doesn't come in a tiny box it's not like you're getting a [TS]

02:22:27   little pill and you put water on it comes in a box like the size of a dorm [TS]

02:22:33   room refrigerator maybe a little bigger than that easily fits the road or you [TS]

02:22:38   can see how they ship them then you open the thing up and should expand into one [TS]

02:22:45   thing I would say follow their directions open in the room where you [TS]

02:22:48   want to use its really really amazing and they sent me one a couple months ago [TS]

02:22:55   and it for sponsors to show its fine mattress it is really good I don't [TS]

02:23:01   expect that I'll ever buy a mattress in a story where do you go to find out more [TS]

02:23:06   go to caspar sleep CAS P E R ii p [TS]

02:23:13   casper sleep dot com slash talk show just talk show that on a [TS]

02:23:18   got a nice think it's got a nice bounce it's not the memory foam thing we're [TS]

02:23:24   like when you wake up in the morning there's like an outline of your body on [TS]

02:23:27   a mattress I can't stand that I wouldn't like that it's not like that at all it's [TS]

02:23:32   just a nice mattress just feels good and his think they're made right here in [TS]

02:23:37   America made in America and the other thing to you think I just cant C span [TS]

02:23:43   and you know hundred thousand bucks on a mattress online they have a risk free [TS]

02:23:47   return policy [TS]

02:23:49   try sleeping on any casper for a hundred days get three months with the thing and [TS]

02:23:54   if you don't like it [TS]

02:23:55   343 they'll take it back to get out your house so you can't lose go there by a [TS]

02:24:03   mattress opened it up and use it [TS]

02:24:06   three months and then if you don't like it you can send it back if you need a [TS]

02:24:11   new mattress you're not if you don't check out casper go to caspar sleep dot [TS]

02:24:15   com and / the talk show host / talk show that brings me to a point is a point I [TS]

02:24:25   wanted me it's a funny time but I wanted to make this before we wrap up the show [TS]

02:24:28   one thing that Star Wars does and I think it's a good thing too but it [TS]

02:24:34   doesn't really make any logical sense is there just always been very and wavy [TS]

02:24:40   yadda yadda yadda about how long it takes to get from one plant to another [TS]

02:24:45   in hyperspace it's it's seemingly a big deal to get from tattoo intolerant [TS]

02:24:52   because they have to pay a thousand credit twenty thousand and it's enough [TS]

02:24:58   that looks almost pirate ship it you know [TS]

02:25:01   but how long is it nobody change their clothes you know the movie is not about [TS]

02:25:08   long space flights so that's not an important part of movies to be in there [TS]

02:25:12   and all you gotta do is make it seem like a real long car trip because that's [TS]

02:25:14   what people can relate to its gonna be like a really long car trip guys and [TS]

02:25:17   that's how much time you have in terms of time passing on the movie that I like [TS]

02:25:21   well if you're if you're in some town in the middle of nowhere near wanna get to [TS]

02:25:24   the big city you got to somehow get there either by doing a long car trip or [TS]

02:25:28   taking a bus or train or something like that is a lot of public transportation [TS]

02:25:30   the galaxy of it if you could have any galaxy spanning civilization you just [TS]

02:25:34   gotta hand wave [TS]

02:25:36   under the assumption that Turkey and does not want to blow up down to win [TS]

02:25:41   because it's too remote to make an effective demonstration I don't know [TS]

02:25:44   what the media situation is yeah like its way but the media situation again [TS]

02:25:49   you know they're going to sail to remote like they don't have any kind of [TS]

02:25:52   galactic media that is sort of giving any sort of shared like that not all [TS]

02:25:57   watching space seinfeld together that all of culture and also the same songs [TS]

02:26:02   they're not interested in news about what's going on the other systems if [TS]

02:26:06   your system you can be like rebellion Empire doesn't really affect me we're [TS]

02:26:10   kind of in the lowest plan cuts anyway so no big deal it's more like the entire [TS]

02:26:14   galaxy is about the size of the United States and its in the united states like [TS]

02:26:19   in the in the pre interstate high-wage tattooing is like the wild west slope of [TS]

02:26:26   the Wild West know what's going on the big city and there is organized crime [TS]

02:26:29   and maybe this prohibition and you know like that type of communication delay [TS]

02:26:34   American Century thinking but yeah I attention again and what about this time [TS]

02:26:43   so this timeline to me is it's just his very accepted I don't mind but it if you [TS]

02:26:48   think about it too much it's pretty hard to explain is the Falcon leaves hot [TS]

02:26:54   hyperdrive hyperdrive doesn't work so they go hide in an asteroid field [TS]

02:27:00   because of the very least we can go there and they started stories will [TS]

02:27:04   start stop shooting at us so far so good [TS]

02:27:07   this is forget that the space worms somehow gets huge on an asteroid with no [TS]

02:27:13   atmosphere in the biology that thing is [TS]

02:27:16   yeah so what so what was a cool scene and a great surprise so I agree but they [TS]

02:27:26   don't have a hybrid drive and they never fix the hyperdrive and in high and is [TS]

02:27:30   flipping through his computer and he goes and so somehow he can get the best [TS]

02:27:36   but it's there in the system he saw that he left no stone left there in the newer [TS]

02:27:46   faster but if you're willing to just you know go along Highway 55 it's [TS]

02:27:53   scientifically speaking again but then he wanted to go to the land assists so [TS]

02:27:59   continued but that that's a different solar system it's not they're not trying [TS]

02:28:04   to say that best ben is on a different planet in the Solar System [TS]

02:28:08   I actually don't know I don't know more about Star Wars polymath is out for us [TS]

02:28:12   but I don't think the planet being essential and the moon's being the [TS]

02:28:17   system I think that the loosey-goosey site you know star Scientific hyperdrive [TS]

02:28:25   is really really fast and gets you a couple of hours you can get from one to [TS]

02:28:30   be and if you don't take hyperdrive there still some kind of faster than [TS]

02:28:35   light way that you're gonna get a hundred years from now you get there a [TS]

02:28:41   couple of weeks because that's the whole period where Lucas training on Dec yeah [TS]

02:28:45   exactly right [TS]

02:28:47   the time it takes the Falcons again from the asteroids to bass bin is the time [TS]

02:28:52   the entirety of it I'm that Luke trends either Luke spends a grand total of [TS]

02:28:56   about eight hours training or playing an awful lot of topics in fact this was the [TS]

02:29:07   the title of one of the episodes of an empire was July weekend there for a [TS]

02:29:14   month is never week was just like a Jedi weekend [TS]

02:29:16   what's the show you speak of you put it in your show and had to add to google [TS]

02:29:23   that is the question on the SWTOR dot com how did you get the best of best [TS]

02:29:28   with no light speed the question right in the forums and the first answer is [TS]

02:29:32   that it's Patil ya know do you know what this is classic writing the heroes only [TS]

02:29:41   ever as powerful as you need to be very given scene like Superman can move the [TS]

02:29:46   moon in one scene and just get beaten down by bad men in the next it's it's [TS]

02:29:50   fine like I i think you know Scott McNulty forgive me but start a kind of [TS]

02:30:01   fetishes this kind of thing and it's just a detailed doesn't matter it's it [TS]

02:30:05   has nothing to do with the narrative version of the story right like Star [TS]

02:30:09   Trek has gone on to explain that the warp factor factor going from zero to [TS]

02:30:14   ten is like a lot more sense given separately investment are both me know [TS]

02:30:23   at system I sent you just know that this was backwards this is somebody who this [TS]

02:30:33   really bothered and less than expanding universe everything has to explain all [TS]

02:30:42   this people are more intimate know all these answers already because they have [TS]

02:30:46   to make the movie it's due throwaway lines when you right now left a novel in [TS]

02:30:49   this universe you have to eventually figure out where I know I know it's not [TS]

02:30:53   the same solar system [TS]

02:30:54   sector matter it's all just us and we still need fast channel [TS]

02:31:00   III and I feel like the movie doesn't suffer for it if they had and it would [TS]

02:31:07   have been a whole medical Orion moment if they had gone the whole star trek [TS]

02:31:11   factor and explained that we can no longer go in hyperdrive past Speedway [TS]

02:31:17   just started doesn't do that either started mislead us if if it's a dramatic [TS]

02:31:22   part of a plot we would simply have someone explain in the moment we're [TS]

02:31:26   going now is either adequate or inadequate [TS]

02:31:29   for some made up reason to escape or not escape from its like when they're trying [TS]

02:31:32   to do is turning out of the black hole in the judge Abrams reboot like this [TS]

02:31:36   matter in the Trinity River like world where maximum warp not gonna make about [TS]

02:31:41   to blow things up in like they just need a dramatic moment like there's no [TS]

02:31:44   there's no before that they didn't have long discussions about what it would be [TS]

02:31:48   like trying to escape from and antimatter bomb with a dramatic moment [TS]

02:31:54   in the moment something else something that set too much but in terms of empire [TS]

02:32:01   what we needed as we needed to be trained by Yoda and we needed time 402 [TS]

02:32:09   sort of come together in some kind of way and sort of the down time in both [TS]

02:32:16   the asteroid field and provides that story temper and then after you're done [TS]

02:32:23   with that it's you know wave your hands in time to the next great and it also [TS]

02:32:29   makes sense then that the empire could have gotten there before they did [TS]

02:32:32   because they have ships with fully functioning hybrid drives and could get [TS]

02:32:36   there and you know work out their dastardly yes i mean clearly and it well [TS]

02:32:40   before you did so how does he said that just before I mean obviously not be for [TS]

02:32:48   it you know they just has time to plan a dinner party I was that there was pretty [TS]

02:32:54   classic Bond villain yeah I think it makes sense to test the company freezing [TS]

02:33:07   on hand and against that we don't have the Emperor's prize damage but even at [TS]

02:33:14   that point even at that point he's got delusions that it's going to be like [TS]

02:33:22   father and son duo yeah either way just think it's made further uncomfortable I [TS]

02:33:31   mean I presume that they did get a meal I do I thank you very much a comparative [TS]

02:33:38   where they they play out the rest of the scene where there are really eating and [TS]

02:33:42   I didn't see have to put this in the show it's got it was just sitting there [TS]

02:33:48   so well and both both wear masks that they don't take off for a vote if it [TS]

02:33:57   sticks in from the other people enjoying their food but we've both made being in [TS]

02:34:01   that scene is basically just to fuck you tan solo at that point yeah I guess he [TS]

02:34:12   wants the ban is like he is worth a lot to me I think Vader his meals alone in [TS]

02:34:21   his little meditation chamber off in the prequels and had like robots playing [TS]

02:34:33   football some kind of American cell phone [TS]

02:34:36   rebels they bring my little whatever it's called the circular table with the [TS]

02:34:43   little yeah animation monsters that they really enjoyed playing american football [TS]

02:34:53   is even something vaguely once you've gotta go through the prequel trilogy [TS]

02:35:13   just blown up and stand ya to me among the worst things are in the dialogue is [TS]

02:35:19   terrible the character motivation to terrible the definition of who's the [TS]

02:35:24   main characters in this movie are terrible things right and yeah that's [TS]

02:35:30   the again I would highly recommend them except for all the weird side plot stuff [TS]

02:35:39   said I don't like the plague of things I don't like the characterization of the [TS]

02:35:43   framing device change device laying eggs and the thing about the know that no [TS]

02:35:48   main character in ensemble movies it's perfectly fine character and the usual [TS]

02:35:55   suspects rate who is the main character in Firefly like it is possible to have [TS]

02:35:59   you know are you can argue until now the main character in Firefly well as is [TS]

02:36:04   Kevin Spacey the main character gabriel byrne ensemble cast a fine was the main [TS]

02:36:10   character and oceans 11 is George Clooney is the most famous singer paid [TS]

02:36:13   the most likely but that what he was trying to get out with the who is the [TS]

02:36:18   main character in The Phantom Menace is that we don't care about any of these [TS]

02:36:21   people right I told the main characters like who do I care about who and who do [TS]

02:36:25   identify with who I rooting for and and and phantom as the answer is nobody in [TS]

02:36:32   the entire people should be an end to effectively saved and never heard him [TS]

02:36:43   and his partner [TS]

02:36:45   and in fact there so why we not likely I like everybody's trained by you know [TS]

02:36:55   it's like saying I was taught by famous professor at school you really want one [TS]

02:37:00   class with him [TS]

02:37:00   yeah that's it was trained by you every level of the people's problems you get a [TS]

02:37:10   little things you can complain about them in the micro level you can call me [TS]

02:37:13   back to level I was like to go out and said they just felt their fundamental [TS]

02:37:16   tasks explain why they say hi I think the reason quite this is because I world [TS]

02:37:23   one of the reasons is that I feel like Lucas got a bug up his butt to have a [TS]

02:37:26   parallel to the first one where you know there's this great moment where obi-wan [TS]

02:37:31   sacrifices himself and eyes and my god this jet I was so wise and sage and [TS]

02:37:36   powerful throughout this movie is dead I didn't expect that all I want that again [TS]

02:37:40   but it can't be obi-wan Kenobi one you know for the next six movies as I will [TS]

02:37:44   invent this new guy and then what happened obi-wan well he gets to sit on [TS]

02:37:47   a spaceship 4:45 [TS]

02:37:49   the one thing and we'll see about that one thing is quite honest death kinda [TS]

02:37:54   gives them the option at least to do what I did in the Jetta just goes [TS]

02:38:03   bananas and Colin other character we don't care but that doesn't really even [TS]

02:38:10   happen as well but it it does but then you don't get there's no there's no [TS]

02:38:16   there's no idea that is more like quite gone is kind of like the the problem [TS]

02:38:25   student who is always a little bit disrespectful and kind of you know I [TS]

02:38:32   don't know a little bit of a rebel but never do you get the idea that quite [TS]

02:38:36   honest teetering on the edge of their kind of like the kind of like the [TS]

02:38:41   you know that the trouble students but everywhere is that the whole thing is [TS]

02:38:45   like your 2010 be going on we're not sad music is not playing we are rooting for [TS]

02:38:52   everyone to win he does win there is no you know what you think about it first [TS]

02:38:57   of all I loved it he visually stunning as is contrived just as it was it looked [TS]

02:39:05   pretty cool I liked the as those arbitrary doors closed quonset down and [TS]

02:39:15   meditated start back and forth that was nice I'd like to the after I had been [TS]

02:39:25   killed bobby one was a jumping up and down that just made the girl he's [TS]

02:39:30   clearly pitch to hit you right there was no path and worse than being a payoff [TS]

02:39:35   and this is horrible he ends up in like a tactical position is basically [TS]

02:39:44   halfway down the hall and he manages to beat by jumping over him for scanning [TS]

02:39:51   lights even cutting a man thing when henchman the movie and movies like just [TS]

02:39:57   get into position in front of the hero and stand motionless while the hero [TS]

02:40:00   doesn't exactly now here's the thing that is incredibly inferior position and [TS]

02:40:05   at the end of the city we see we we have to be in in a marginally elevated [TS]

02:40:15   position over Anakin and they have to align because I need you to understand [TS]

02:40:23   that now I have the advantage because I want you to know that just doesn't make [TS]

02:40:31   any sense because we've seen Kenobi beat Wake razor odds against a guy that was [TS]

02:40:37   probably one of the benefit is that we've seen tonight so it's [TS]

02:40:43   it's just it's sort of every possible to really picky you like medium level like [TS]

02:40:51   moment seemed to seeing action action motivation motivation right things make [TS]

02:40:57   no sense [TS]

02:40:58   stories make their sons to take a look at the pool to jump to that while you [TS]

02:41:08   watch video but they micanopy once fight in invented the set in in that very [TS]

02:41:13   fight scene it is I never thought about it before how it parallels the Darth [TS]

02:41:17   Maul a lower position and he didn't even have a late seventies and yet you're [TS]

02:41:21   right though that is pretty damning but even in that one fight scene in the ebb [TS]

02:41:26   and flow of one guy Avenue Upper and one guy up in the lower and upper and lower [TS]

02:41:31   and flow [TS]

02:41:32   the fight going back and forth that was so far and away not the worst position [TS]

02:41:37   one of the guys should come back from so much more [TS]

02:41:41   position and you want to go further and that scene where the two of them [TS]

02:41:44   fighting you want the fight to not be about the fight something else but the [TS]

02:41:50   something else it's about his stupid and you don't care about it all you've [TS]

02:41:53   totally checked out an addict is a character 43 home movies could give a [TS]

02:41:56   damn about what they liked the underlying he didn't even check out yeah [TS]

02:42:01   right exactly like if you're gonna have a long fight scene like culminate in a [TS]

02:42:08   trilogy of movies a long fight scene between two people you have to have [TS]

02:42:11   established whatever the underlying issue is the degree that the attention [TS]

02:42:15   of the fight scene is not just about the fighting part of what I'm just like [TS]

02:42:19   whatever just like I was dragged on so long and it's boring who cares who cares [TS]

02:42:25   who wins you know who wins you know what happens you don't there's no emotional [TS]

02:42:28   stakes you don't care about any of the people and then the mechanics of the [TS]

02:42:31   fights in any event the medicine they had a well-choreographed right scene [TS]

02:42:34   with some interesting things in it didn't make too much sense that you care [TS]

02:42:40   about the characters maybe you kind of knew he was going to be quite gone [TS]

02:42:44   fairly charismatic and his character [TS]

02:42:48   total cipher is stupid and then they killed themselves so much that he was [TS]

02:42:54   like a red red scary guy who's going to lines and the only reason you think like [TS]

02:43:02   you assume he's a good fighter and you later to see that he is and that he [TS]

02:43:06   seems scary but later had a home movie to be intimidating before he took out a [TS]

02:43:10   briefly that final fight would have almost been better suited [TS]

02:43:17   extended oranges dissipates immediately just chopped into pieces like that's [TS]

02:43:25   what you need to have happen like that [TS]

02:43:27   well i maybe you need to have the emotional payoff of whatever their [TS]

02:43:30   supposed conflict is about it whatever as I go to turn it was just so [TS]

02:43:35   squandered yes but I decided once cannabis decided I think it needs to be [TS]

02:43:43   decisive thing and what happened was not decisive really you know [TS]

02:43:48   supposedly holding back at like I really don't want to kill you I can kill you [TS]

02:43:52   because you're stupid kid didn't take my license I'm a good fighter but I don't [TS]

02:43:56   want to I'm trying to convince even talk you down from the dimensions of the hard [TS]

02:44:01   grounder the next move you make it says the audience like high and setting up a [TS]

02:44:05   scenario which now this fight is over now and I'm telling you that makes now [TS]

02:44:10   will determine whether the fight ends for him for me and for him I'm telling [TS]

02:44:15   him don't do this because since the congress and terrified I am simply run [TS]

02:44:23   out so now I'm just going to tell you what is going to happen here I can [TS]

02:44:28   actually make it happen organically through a story of our events unfold and [TS]

02:44:33   situations arise we can't have that because I'd be too complicated just [TS]

02:44:36   gonna tell certain the ending part of a dick move to let your friends / I [TS]

02:44:40   thought if you like a brother to burn alive maybe you know him out of his [TS]

02:44:45   misery yeah like I tried to save him [TS]

02:44:51   lights it's like he's a goner or just let them burn to death that is like it's [TS]

02:45:01   making this is not there's no reason it has to play out them like your writing [TS]

02:45:07   the script is the type of thing you think about like you know where you want [TS]

02:45:10   to go and you have to have a series of events that leads naturally to you need [TS]

02:45:13   to check your protagonist into course of action down to nothing was nothing was [TS]

02:45:22   forcing over everyone have like an appointment to get do I it's not it's [TS]

02:45:27   not even that hard to think of something very close where you are and this is one [TS]

02:45:32   of those things that if you guys remember but I remember even as a kid [TS]

02:45:35   that the fan magazines had rumors that if there ever if they ever made the [TS]

02:45:40   prequel trilogy that the way that Vader got the way he was and the whole [TS]

02:45:44   reference to you know last we met I was but the learner now I'm the master you [TS]

02:45:49   know these guys knew each other [TS]

02:45:51   was that you know there were rumors all the way back then like 80 81 that it was [TS]

02:45:55   some kind of lightsaber duel and obi-wan the lava yet what's something something [TS]

02:46:02   they did you know be one gave my ass kicking any moment so just make it an [TS]

02:46:06   edge in a cliff or something like a volcano and you he cut off his arm is [TS]

02:46:11   lightsaber falls to the ground and he falls into it and he did it [TS]

02:46:14   intentionally or unintentionally if I wanted to do it what I would have got to [TS]

02:46:20   have a whole different movies in front of the story don't want to have happen [TS]

02:46:23   is to have them have whatever underlying issue and how to play out through [TS]

02:46:27   through a lightsaber thing and have basically have a B-one try and fail to [TS]

02:46:33   save him from the lava think like that is not like he he liked him into love [TS]

02:46:38   than a second thoughts and try to save them like the fight led to a situation [TS]

02:46:40   in which an again was gone was going to have was going to fall lava and the [TS]

02:46:46   battle was over you on trying to save him and push him into lobby and then you [TS]

02:46:51   have what he needs to the dark side and from physical demands write what you [TS]

02:46:58   want the conflict to be if you want the conflict to be that can feel like he was [TS]

02:47:02   betrayed by Obi Wan than you could have it be like you know trying shown that he [TS]

02:47:06   was betrayed you want to come up with something different like I love it I [TS]

02:47:10   don't know it depends on how you want to play out but already written a thing [TS]

02:47:13   where he has to survive and he's also and obi-wan has his say those things are [TS]

02:47:19   already set so you haven't cut off his hand is Sabres their underground he [TS]

02:47:23   falls in the pit and he's gone you know she's not jumping down into a lava pit [TS]

02:47:28   to make sure the guys dead he just assumes its debt and somehow he still so [TS]

02:47:32   powerful he's got the dark side he can keep himself alive in a lava pit even [TS]

02:47:36   while he's getting all burnt up there you go you're done you probably also I [TS]

02:47:40   would want to know that he's still and know that He has failed to save you know [TS]

02:47:45   like biggest did he knows like hiding the only things I like the idea of being [TS]

02:47:54   a thing and then slowly it's you know that's what happened I wouldn't be tired [TS]

02:48:03   a lot of it is from from Lucas from the family but who cares it's like Lord of [TS]

02:48:11   the Rings the first and see [TS]

02:48:13   like anything we were established anything that involves like a pratfall [TS]

02:48:20   slapstick lost my balance and it's such a God imagine they dropped to look at so [TS]

02:48:28   yeah someone bumped into my guess is we're going on a shooting so the whole [TS]

02:48:42   the whole prequel trilogy I feel like it mostly in hindsight it's [TS]

02:48:46   a like fanfiction asked trying to write in as many coincidences as possible he [TS]

02:48:54   mentioned don't see see see 3 p.m. made by a boyhood you know and even know who [TS]

02:49:01   he's clearly as we've seen through all of the movies is right off the assembly [TS]

02:49:07   line is like others like him and he was not very imaginative child looks exactly [TS]

02:49:14   like the ones you like but somehow we didn't have the outer shell for you [TS]

02:49:24   noted Django fat we always killed Boba Fett he was a badass so we can't stop [TS]

02:49:29   around his father and then we'll say that he's also that cool fat guy he's [TS]

02:49:34   the parent of all the clones [TS]

02:49:38   template clone 0 that's horrible it seems like to getting away from that in [TS]

02:49:44   the well who knows I i dont even if you could listen i'd safe flight number two [TS]

02:49:51   is turning the Jedi from these like martial artists who are masters of [TS]

02:49:57   subtlety to superheroes like it just suddenly jumped from you know like these [TS]

02:50:04   guys who specialized mostly in like going unnoticed I mean that's what it [TS]

02:50:07   does to shut down the reactor being it's it's awesome it's so cool in the first [TS]

02:50:12   movie the way over low know how he deals with the same people to just makes it [TS]

02:50:17   crazy he doesn't go slow and there's this totally cool seen you know super [TS]

02:50:24   cool scene where there's the two storm troopers by the tractor beam controlling [TS]

02:50:29   you seen the new TK 421 is pretty hurts quite as Han Solo is what's the model [TS]

02:50:42   name of the sky jumper that he's talking about whatever they give you seen the [TS]

02:50:47   new the new Camaro [TS]

02:50:48   it's just a cool scene and it's a nice little it's like George Lucas when he [TS]

02:50:53   made films for humans it's like you know what has probably talked about you know [TS]

02:50:57   spaceships and stuff like that then in all he does is make like a little noise [TS]

02:51:02   like they hear something has gone person that's where the generals did and then [TS]

02:51:09   the whole trilogy its established that they're like Marvel superheroes and [TS]

02:51:16   going out that deadline of you know I thought in the clone wars with you from [TS]

02:51:23   there I never thought of it like they would generals anything I just got [TS]

02:51:29   together and they happen to be sorry I did but I didn't think that they were [TS]

02:51:35   commanders of troops known and I didn't think that they were outside of the [TS]

02:51:42   weird general commensurate I just thought that they would happen to be [TS]

02:51:48   part of the army [TS]

02:51:52   you can have you know the people certainly a possibility but like when I [TS]

02:52:01   when I was a kid but I thought of them you find out what I pictured was [TS]

02:52:04   fighting in the way that the fight and that they were pilots of you know [TS]

02:52:10   explains or whatever and they were shooting things with guns and flying [TS]

02:52:13   expertise around in that that happened to have the force maybe gave them a [TS]

02:52:16   little bit better pilots that's how they were operating within the machinery of [TS]

02:52:20   the war as young man as a warrior of the type that's maybe a black people but [TS]

02:52:28   when you need to get to the honors thing going you can put a bunch of priests in [TS]

02:52:34   robes [TS]

02:52:35   round and you're gonna make normal and you're gonna have a lot of them they're [TS]

02:52:46   they're no longer special and you have to embrace that to a degree that the [TS]

02:52:49   prequels didn't feel comfortable embracing like it's as if you had a [TS]

02:52:53   movie in which one person had a gun and it was a big special thing are you [TS]

02:52:58   thinking the gunslinger series guns are a rarity whatever and then you do [TS]

02:53:02   prequel to them where everybody has guns if you get everybody has guns you have [TS]

02:53:06   to do it like Saving Private Ryan guns are not part of the story at all it's [TS]

02:53:10   just normal and you move on from it very quickly on to whatever the actual story [TS]

02:53:13   is the story is not can you believe all these guys have gunmen now we know they [TS]

02:53:18   are like it's normal you have to have another story there that's the story of [TS]

02:53:22   you know a dramatic thing happening and we're gonna have enjoyed running around [TS]

02:53:26   the Jenna can't be that special you have to have another story takes place in [TS]

02:53:31   people's happened have lightsabers in the same way to be completely agree and [TS]

02:53:35   one thing that I always liked about star was that a fuel has been sort of between [TS]

02:53:40   over the years is something that sets it apart from Star Trek and Star Trek each [TS]

02:53:46   alien species each race has prescribed set certain values and cultural aspect [TS]

02:53:58   to it [TS]

02:53:59   klingon warriors the trickier traders humans are vaguely fleshed out the [TS]

02:54:05   Romulans a duplicitous [TS]

02:54:06   Falcons are logical and I had always thought and I think it stems from the [TS]

02:54:11   from the cantina sinister was that these are just a bunch of people hanging out [TS]

02:54:17   islands like it's even have credo can be a hassle but that doesn't mean that [TS]

02:54:23   everybody looks like we do is going to be about how to kill people [TS]

02:54:27   well you've got the hots that are all gangsters suppose I could not in the [TS]

02:54:30   movies movies that don't see it as Jabba the Hutt about you mentioned that the [TS]

02:54:36   huts run the show sure but I mean that could be a maybe the hot [TS]

02:54:40   his family I don't know yeah exactly maybe this is an end but that's what I [TS]

02:54:48   mean about its been slowly between of the use of this notion of Lake this [TS]

02:54:52   grouper species Act's in this way and there is a nice touch like that Star [TS]

02:55:00   Wars say nice things about the prequels in the Phantom Menace one of an against [TS]

02:55:07   childhood friends is a yes he's actually gonna tell you do I really do [TS]

02:55:17   oh yeah that's right I tried to forget that it's David the Jedi Council [TS]

02:55:34   invented the United Colors of Benetton every single story through and one of [TS]

02:55:41   them including whatever you it is one thing you should not have the late [TS]

02:55:52   singer I never thought I was eight years old when I was like no you know when it [TS]

02:55:58   whenever it came out not have done it doesn't [TS]

02:56:01   before I was after Jerry trying to figure out if you re can be the Emperor [TS]

02:56:10   and it was always like he didn't fight he's he's just he's beyond that Canada [TS]

02:56:20   level doesn't matter to him he definitely people in pieces i i couldnt [TS]

02:56:28   agree more house so proud Jonas and I were talking about star was quickly and [TS]

02:56:33   I was so proud of me he said [TS]

02:56:35   Jonas came up with the same thing he thought you shouldn't have had a [TS]

02:56:38   lightsaber because in the first trilogy the Emperor dinner and would not be cool [TS]

02:56:43   if like the top dark side guys so powerfully doesn't have a lightsaber and [TS]

02:56:47   the top flight side guide [TS]

02:56:50   looking like an elegant looking weapon for a more civilized age and any weapons [TS]

02:56:56   they're dead and insect secondarily even if you're going to say okay he doesn't [TS]

02:57:01   he shouldn't fight like a pinball bouncing around in my seat once you're [TS]

02:57:08   gonna have tried to fight with a lightsaber that's really is only viable [TS]

02:57:13   strategies to be a little devil whirling dervish because otherwise I like the [TS]

02:57:17   bend down and even like social you down there somehow he should be so powerful [TS]

02:57:22   if he does have a lightsaber that it's like it would be like his his battles [TS]

02:57:26   would be like that the first battle between obi-wan and very slow very [TS]

02:57:31   simple and it's like he's just it's a mistake to give a brief you do give them [TS]

02:57:40   on that you go with the the anime cliche today also doing samurai movies where [TS]

02:57:44   it's like to motionless people standing facing each other then there's some [TS]

02:57:48   flash of action than one guy falls apart he's been sliced in half [TS]

02:57:51   yeah like I wouldn't do it should be a fun and the frenetic pace of his [TS]

02:58:00   lightsaber just just reeks to me like they they were so hobbled when he was a [TS]

02:58:07   practical and backed by the limits of puppetry and it's so hard to make him [TS]

02:58:11   even like walk right and they had like seven puppeteers working Yoda [TS]

02:58:16   simultaneously so the eyes could move on his mouth moved in it's a fascinating [TS]

02:58:20   you know back story of how they made that Yoda puppet as realistic as they [TS]

02:58:25   did include they had trouble making him eat soup and the first and make him [TS]

02:58:30   believable and then all of a sudden they come to George Lucas and they're like [TS]

02:58:34   well as a computer-generated effect he can do a stripper somersault right over [TS]

02:58:39   Count Dooku has led the other way they look as wanted to see him fight with [TS]

02:58:42   lightsabers yeah yeah I yeah I blame George Lucas entirely [TS]

02:58:47   that it was a bad idea you know that he saw no beauty in in the economy of the [TS]

02:58:53   limits of as a practical no it's shit doesn't even like the hope the whole [TS]

02:58:57   philosophy of the force has expressed an empire which is Lucas's least favorite [TS]

02:59:01   movie which is it varies as you surprised now I just hadn't heard that I [TS]

02:59:11   mean now I mean I'm stay still [TS]

02:59:18   explicable because it's not that I don't think he doesn't like the shining is [TS]

02:59:22   that the shining is so different from the book is like this is not an [TS]

02:59:26   adaptation I think my book is good in this movie is a different movie I think [TS]

02:59:30   he would admit that the shining is a good movie but he would say it's vaguely [TS]

02:59:33   know actually he's said that the tibetan but because he doesn't think it under [TS]

02:59:37   seat he's he's a fan of like typical horror movies like he likes darkness he [TS]

02:59:41   likes surprises he'll appreciate psychological hard to resist that it's [TS]

02:59:46   now it is it doesn't capture anything about his book that he feels like [TS]

02:59:49   there's value in my book of his movie captures none of it is true that [TS]

02:59:52   captures different value that is not in the book [TS]

02:59:54   yea well actually we know the answer if you guys ever seen his shining [TS]

02:59:54   yea well actually we know the answer if you guys ever seen his shining [TS]

03:00:00   series for ABC which starred the guy from now because he was angry at him the [TS]

03:00:05   guy from think I found you can see what he you can we see we we know what [TS]

03:00:10   Stephen King thinks is a good film and I think it's good but at least its faith [TS]

03:00:16   more faithful to the bucket and I know he likes it that tells me it's basically [TS]

03:00:25   like this is based on the book in the same way that blade runner's based on to [TS]

03:00:31   Andrew's Church yeah yeah yeah [TS]

03:00:35   source center and its good anyway whatever they've heard today but I don't [TS]

03:00:41   get to her anyway yeah so no I'm not surprised by it is listed one that that [TS]

03:00:55   boggles my mind that it didn't turn out the way the way like that's a reason to [TS]

03:01:00   start taking over a little bit more control in jet I even told control the [TS]

03:01:03   prequels is that he was distracted by you know building his empire and like [TS]

03:01:07   the success of stars that whatever that he basically had outsourced and he [TS]

03:01:11   didn't wanna director of the movie was so exhausting to start the book it's [TS]

03:01:14   yeah JWU Rinzler their huge hard covers 14 New Hope 14 Empire 14 Jedi their [TS]

03:01:20   beautiful giant hardcover book can also get eBook version and they're a long and [TS]

03:01:24   there's tons of stuff in them about the making of all these movies have the [TS]

03:01:33   first to complete that now but despite a private jet as as annoying as he works [TS]

03:01:42   are that the integrations the stop motion animation of the discount workers [TS]

03:01:48   into the forest seems is it is just like the top of the highest level the peak [TS]

03:01:55   bunch of model station sculley's that it was going to be CG and I was like this [TS]

03:02:00   is you know that the most money the most experienced the people who know how to [TS]

03:02:03   do it best during the kind of battles that they could have only dreamed up in [TS]

03:02:07   a new hope and then after that I was basically like and no one will ever top [TS]

03:02:10   that because everything else after that will be CG that space finds it is good [TS]

03:02:14   but it's a different context based on is ever going to spend a blue might like [TS]

03:02:17   the you see it from the front of the cockpit of the developed in like you [TS]

03:02:22   said swim firefighters coming at you or even just the thing where they were they [TS]

03:02:26   you know flip over to go into little tunnel into the motion control camera [TS]

03:02:31   moves that you know that they didn't just do the straightforward easiest [TS]

03:02:36   thing they wanted to which is why is great in the force awakens trailer their [TS]

03:02:40   ridiculous camera moves and tracing the that's part of the start the start [TS]

03:02:44   more as an aesthetic is that unlike for example Star Trek ships going to fight [TS]

03:02:48   like naval things within a movie which is cool but it's not the same thing [TS]

03:02:52   different stores it's like everybody flies fancy like everyone does [TS]

03:02:57   everything like the hard way it looks cool because it looks like why do you [TS]

03:03:02   have to spiral twist around when you go into this is the camera fault because it [TS]

03:03:06   looks exciting dramatic I like the way that on parks in the ass over his [TS]

03:03:12   parking spot and then doesn't really matter he's got like you just know that [TS]

03:03:20   his signature he does not fly casual and and the fact that you know if you think [TS]

03:03:26   about how the most control with all these models was done for Jedi you know [TS]

03:03:29   everything all shot several whatever the way that space battle was choreographed [TS]

03:03:33   the different things that happened in it and so that you get coherent action it's [TS]

03:03:37   just a minute it's easier to do it as easy as you go plan the whole thing and [TS]

03:03:41   you put the camera with models you got it she added to individual model doing [TS]

03:03:47   its thing and then knowing you put them all together is gonna make one coherency [TS]

03:03:50   don't sound like you can move the camera to a different position and tried from [TS]

03:03:53   here like you get it you get a sense of speciality that [TS]

03:03:59   and then the thing is to have you don't realize it but if you go back on that [TS]

03:04:08   with a stopwatch and see at how much time during this space battle scene are [TS]

03:04:12   models on the screen and it's incredibly song is so expensive and time-consuming [TS]

03:04:17   to do spend a lot of time seeing people's faces and stuff like that and [TS]

03:04:21   the trick is how do I make a coherent battle scene where I can only show the [TS]

03:04:25   models for a total of like 10 percent of the of the battle time because it's just [TS]

03:04:30   so damn expensive and so every camera every shot of models has to be like in [TS]

03:04:34   this scene is like three story boards we have to see big ship big ship move this [TS]

03:04:38   way [TS]

03:04:39   desktop fire ship scattered and the message is getting here is the test are [TS]

03:04:43   active it should ship ships are scattered in this scene yes no like and [TS]

03:04:48   you get like three seconds of screen time to convey an entire movement a [TS]

03:04:53   bunch of people's faces and talking and stuff and then you get three more [TS]

03:04:56   seconds of ships moving and what happened during that one shot ships [TS]

03:04:59   moving the other one its communique by the people talking by the interior shots [TS]

03:05:03   by a black bar yelling or whatever but it still always together and it's [TS]

03:05:07   exactly don't show the shower you make do with what you have to make do with [TS]

03:05:14   what you have and you say how do I make this coherent when I know that I can [TS]

03:05:19   only show that the ships flying around the screen for frankness every 10 [TS]

03:05:23   seconds versus like you know episode 39 everywhere that brings me to my man I'm [TS]

03:05:31   basically just using you as my therapy at this point the battle at the end of a [TS]

03:05:37   new hope to take this as history is brilliant [TS]

03:05:41   you can tell what's happening you know the rebel ships are now holding pattern [TS]

03:05:45   similar but the death stare and they keep going on changing hands in [TS]

03:05:49   effectively getting cut down whatever so basic it's great and there's a there's a [TS]

03:05:54   map and the rebel bases that shows how close is it is it is think about it we [TS]

03:06:02   can go across the galaxy but the last 10 metres we have [TS]

03:06:05   doing whatever let's fight for artistic life and the same thing with like the in [TS]

03:06:11   broad strokes a very large space station which they were well it weren't careful [TS]

03:06:19   you know it wasn't designed for a test for an attack like this and this kind of [TS]

03:06:23   attack is going to happen to typical underdog type story we're going to [TS]

03:06:27   tackle the small number of people were gonna go through the exhaust like [TS]

03:06:30   insurance works in broad strokes but the most important thing is like you said [TS]

03:06:34   once you've established stuff even if the idea that there's a trench there's a [TS]

03:06:40   target told you it is going to make a bunch of runs at it and it's going to [TS]

03:06:44   look cool because changes to this is exactly what this is america it's about [TS]

03:06:49   the battles as portrayed in movies that battle makes sense [TS]

03:06:54   granted you know you did gerry has it done design then you know everything [TS]

03:06:59   that you said the Battle of Hoth makes perfect sense kind of I don't know how [TS]

03:07:09   jumping out of the hand waving of like why can't we just bring these things [TS]

03:07:12   down well as a shield and the perimeter and the rebels are fighting a holding [TS]

03:07:28   action they have no illusions win but the fighting a holy action mostly [TS]

03:07:33   ineffective but they standard range and it's dark blessing is good the kinda [TS]

03:07:39   crazy [TS]

03:07:40   attack crazy little bit of the insurgency thing I think it would work [TS]

03:07:45   if those guys which is working that would work because you could picture [TS]

03:07:49   with a stone and it would you know you be laid down in the way that in the [TS]

03:07:56   first movie The Empire overlook the possibility of hers being something to [TS]

03:08:01   worry about [TS]

03:08:08   there is an implicit racism to the Empire because everybody knew umpires [TS]

03:08:14   example you can see them overlooking and really if they had a bigger budget or CD [TS]

03:08:23   basically what they may not realize many occupying forces don't realize that you [TS]

03:08:27   are vastly outnumbered by the new technology is being used as slaves and [TS]

03:08:33   then lick overthrow the way more interesting things you could have done [TS]

03:08:37   them anyway didn't but that said at least a battle make sense and certainly [TS]

03:08:41   the the space engagement makes a lot of sense [TS]

03:08:46   totally it's a trap it and it works because they have a plan to execute on [TS]

03:08:53   their plan their plan does not go as planned because that is the typical you [TS]

03:08:58   know any type or types scenario where you battle seem to be dramatic you can't [TS]

03:09:04   simply execute your plan and win in the end you have to have things are going [TS]

03:09:08   badly we thought this was going to be a plan to turn them over here is the [TS]

03:09:11   entire row and parsley to attract between the Imperial fleet and an [TS]

03:09:17   entirely operational gesture not a good place to be a little of his band but [TS]

03:09:24   let's go totally well I would say this is the first trilogy that's it takes [TS]

03:09:32   place over roughly six years which is what the movies took place in real life [TS]

03:09:37   to make them takes place over six years that the three movies spend an [TS]

03:09:41   inordinate number of most of their time on the most interesting things that [TS]

03:09:44   happened in the whole galaxy in those six years the space battles that took [TS]

03:09:49   place word monumentally important historically and the personal scenes are [TS]

03:09:55   about the most important people in the galaxy in that time right [TS]

03:09:59   now go to the original trilogy which takes place over like more and more than [TS]

03:10:04   60 people yeah it's like 20 something like seven and then he's like at the [TS]

03:10:19   beginning of it there's a gap there's a galactic Senate and there's a Jedi Order [TS]

03:10:24   that seems to be ordered in a number in like the thousands and by the end of it [TS]

03:10:29   tired jet orders wipe down then the republicans replacement empire they [TS]

03:10:34   spent like a grand total of like two and a half minutes on screen showing the [TS]

03:10:40   Jedi Order wiped out and you know the Empire just says he's the emperor so [TS]

03:10:46   they they just the most interesting things that you would think they would [TS]

03:10:50   show over the trilogy they discovered about two and a half so ok the battle in [TS]

03:10:57   Phantom Menace won the gunman's [TS]

03:11:02   boring because you fighting on a flat plane but what if you get the shields [TS]

03:11:08   and it's kind of cool in a weird Roman challenge kind of way until until it [TS]

03:11:15   falls apart [TS]

03:11:16   that throwing big glowing purple balls yeah I could starts out kinda cool when [TS]

03:11:24   they start applying the army's his flight in the field given this kind of [TS]

03:11:28   level attack on the Windows XP exactly and you know the idea that they're [TS]

03:11:36   fighting droids that you know if their control ship goes off their heads so [TS]

03:11:42   this space rental is inane completely in going after what the control she ate and [TS]

03:11:48   it's stupid and and and and if you get lucky [TS]

03:11:53   so that can't touch and even can't even tell you a little about the UIC Germany [TS]

03:12:05   the gunman's or anybody Chrissy do you expect to get shut down and the other [TS]

03:12:10   hand you establish them as characters like capturing and bringing them back in [TS]

03:12:15   discussing them being convinced by 3 p.m. that he's a god and I think it [TS]

03:12:20   works in their favor that you can't understand what they're saying because [TS]

03:12:24   he was the guy who got he was like an explosion that goes off in the one he [TS]

03:12:28   walked yeah he rubs the other one [TS]

03:12:33   yeah it's getting it's getting a bit but at least it's at least there some sense [TS]

03:12:39   that there are serious and you could win but using sunscreen that's that's [TS]

03:12:44   something in the second one we have to be in a new beginning of the Clones [TS]

03:12:52   whatever I don't talk about that does not make sense what they did how dollars [TS]

03:12:59   Genesis walking there I don't know why would you I'm not arguing tactic but if [TS]

03:13:08   I was five hundred yet as I would not walk into the middle of an amino [TS]

03:13:11   everything can just shoot me so honored to have you know Roman Colosseum good [TS]

03:13:18   guys versus the Lions type of thing yeah big stadium the only the only cool so [TS]

03:13:26   about that is that vietnam helicopter gunship coming in with all the storm [TS]

03:13:32   troopers basically shooting other magazine Canada 2010 China extract that [TS]

03:13:40   that's the only thing like I don't care about you decide of these battles like I [TS]

03:13:46   vaguely know that the good guys the guys I know they're gonna do like the one of [TS]

03:13:51   the good guys using storm troopers in that weird but you don't care it's just [TS]

03:13:55   a bunch of things it's it's like many other [TS]

03:14:01   more than that but it's more than that they get tackled tactically stupider as [TS]

03:14:06   the movies gone so as you say dust off their land and the end up taking squads [TS]

03:14:13   of Stormtroopers and the stormtroopers of decline troopers are a finite [TS]

03:14:18   resource have been cloned over 10 years against an advancing Jordan me and what [TS]

03:14:25   do they do they just run at them they just flat-out run at a bunch of robots [TS]

03:14:32   that we've seen it a factory pumping them out by the hundreds like it's it's [TS]

03:14:37   it's the George Lucas is a min the entire movies the idea and everybody [TS]

03:14:45   succumbs especially older people but the idea that the well I'm not everybody [TS]

03:14:51   mean James Cameron has the Droid armies obviously going to be inferior to even [TS]

03:14:56   clone because living things are so much smarter than juries in this message [TS]

03:14:59   because it will cover and shoot at the dumbass robots do like you so many [TS]

03:15:05   droids enjoyed it even the gunman's can defeat them and when it's the clones [TS]

03:15:08   versus the droids even those effect returning them out obviously the living [TS]

03:15:11   things and I think they're much more likely and reasonable scenarios the term [TS]

03:15:15   there was like no the machines because they're really good yes that would be my [TS]

03:15:19   it's like at least take cover that's why the living thing wins because it's got a [TS]

03:15:23   sense of self-preservation effectively and here's where we get to where I want [TS]

03:15:28   to just murdered I don't see a lot so that's ok [TS]

03:15:36   is a chic the working and third movie and the droid army is coming and for [TS]

03:15:44   whatever reason the droid army has decided to cross the lake and land on [TS]

03:15:53   the beach and the beach is covered on two sides by elevated kiss and on the [TS]

03:15:58   top of the cliffs are a bunch of clones with machine guns [TS]

03:16:05   and on a trench on the beach are a whole bunch of rookies with all of them and [TS]

03:16:14   then the dragster coming and as they get onto the beach the wookies in the trench [TS]

03:16:20   what do you think they do they jump up I would have to change and run at the work [TS]

03:16:27   he's in the water and landed the droids and wonder why would you jump out of the [TS]

03:16:34   trench [TS]

03:16:35   it it's it's horrible it's like it is it is it's the most likely scenario of [TS]

03:16:49   assaulting a Dexter with multiple fighter squadrons into such a simple [TS]

03:16:53   scenario where it's like these living things should probably not jump out of [TS]

03:16:58   cover why would the trench I've often said about like the Roger Moore Bond [TS]

03:17:04   movies that he he gets you know like when he gets captured and is facing [TS]

03:17:09   seeming certain death he doesn't even seem perturbed he's not worried sweaty [TS]

03:17:13   and he say he acts as though a character who's read the rest of the script and [TS]

03:17:18   knows he knows he's getting out of it I get take the woodies we read that we [TS]

03:17:22   don't have a good analogues for the starter kit enables samurai sword and so [TS]

03:17:36   the analog analog for infantry this plenty of Alex then depending on what [TS]

03:17:40   you wanna do they just chose not to do anything like the Lord of the Rings [TS]

03:17:44   thing you do medieval [TS]

03:17:45   formation of you know it's a candidate in detecting Lord of the Rings movies [TS]

03:17:51   including The Hobbit ones and everything like they did a reasonable job of saying [TS]

03:17:55   here's something looks vaguely like it might have been done by large standing [TS]

03:17:59   armies with whatever they may be protective parents but shields that you [TS]

03:18:03   serve your your Bowman and the use of cavalry and mounted things and there's [TS]

03:18:09   plenty to choose from Star Wars like they do have trenches like they were [TS]

03:18:13   doing that you know how serious is that they're like to a certain point I like [TS]

03:18:17   ok [TS]

03:18:17   here's the setup but rather than trying to sort of model footage from similar [TS]

03:18:22   large infantry battles will just do whatever things the most dramatic and [TS]

03:18:28   two of these leaping from the barricades [TS]

03:18:30   it's it's it's been out it might complain with that is it I don't know if [TS]

03:18:35   those who care about anything is going on there well that's it I think more and [TS]

03:18:42   more investment and yes exactly I think you might have had the acted in any kind [TS]

03:18:48   of way to make any kind of sense though I think that's probably characters least [TS]

03:18:53   10 PCs but whatever the extras in Empire Strikes Back that you are more [TS]

03:19:01   interested in any of those working control button that fires said that can [TS]

03:19:09   it do you the Edit leg in Empire Strikes Back that was a battle that was [TS]

03:19:17   happening around here so we can do that they had at the end of July as well [TS]

03:19:24   survey survey of conflicts happening across the galaxy not involving anybody [TS]

03:19:29   care about that express the idea of we've given this order and everywhere in [TS]

03:19:34   every planet and we checked out there are being killed and so it's like a [TS]

03:19:37   survey of like this but these people are finding that does not make a movie that [TS]

03:19:43   is a documentary ken burns like you have to you have to have investment in the [TS]

03:19:48   conflict and you can briefly show that maybe something else is going on [TS]

03:19:51   elsewhere like they do this in disaster movies like in the beginning to show [TS]

03:19:54   that the crumbling of civilization but that's just like a brief aside to the [TS]

03:19:59   main story can't be the climax can't be a survey of battles happening on other [TS]

03:20:04   planets [TS]

03:20:04   devices to save the good guys bad guys in front of people everywhere and we [TS]

03:20:08   will tell through music user whatever which side is winning I don't care as [TS]

03:20:11   anybody here that I care about where are my heroes like imagine if the first and [TS]

03:20:18   only time we meet sunny godfather [TS]

03:20:20   two minutes before he leaves and goes through the death scenes they wouldn't [TS]

03:20:28   show the movie for killed in a revolving door [TS]

03:20:32   killed that we care about sunny in the tollbooth because we've seen him in two [TS]

03:20:38   hours and we've seen him before [TS]

03:20:40   act out of bad temper and you know we don't want to be as kind of a bad guy [TS]

03:20:46   but was still kinda like you know and it's become a national plan is old [TS]

03:20:51   people dying it's because we realize is the culmination of plan we know who [TS]

03:20:55   those people are we you know and we understand how he is coordinated all [TS]

03:20:59   this to happen when he is he is it someplace that essentially untouchable [TS]

03:21:02   while it's going on and by the time he gets out at all settle right to hire [TS]

03:21:07   three movies showing the wrong stuff and developing the wrong stuff and then just [TS]

03:21:13   rushed through therefore with no emotional impact whatsoever [TS]

03:21:17   these characters who should develop we had three home movies where they could [TS]

03:21:21   have developed this assay 6 generalize who in the course of three movies could [TS]

03:21:28   have been made into real characters with varying flaws and personalities and then [TS]

03:21:33   they die at the show even if you do or you just show whatever is happening to [TS]

03:21:37   the characters be supposedly care about and have them have been established to [TS]

03:21:43   be I care about the Jedi and have them here that are dying elsewhere you don't [TS]

03:21:47   need to show them because if you can have here as in situations when they [TS]

03:21:51   find out that bad things are happening elsewhere but you don't need to show the [TS]

03:21:55   bad things to show that my main characters care about this therefore I [TS]

03:21:58   care about it but it's not so how do you feel about the execution of 66 cause I [TS]

03:22:04   thought that was actually one of the most effective [TS]

03:22:06   I you know there should have been a musical you know like one of the column [TS]

03:22:16   that is not a Segway the motiva I I keep thinking about goodfellas when when he's [TS]

03:22:23   trying to get the cocaine asserted that any of that [TS]

03:22:29   like it but you have to have you can if you have a better movie leading up to it [TS]

03:22:34   how you communicate that a coordinated attack is taking place with essentially [TS]

03:22:39   you know like The Manchurian Candidate like go to get us and they all just do [TS]

03:22:44   this or that they all know this order and they killed the general fine you can [TS]

03:22:49   you can do that we need to show the people who care about that we care about [TS]

03:22:56   these people and these people care that all the Jedi that's what you need to [TS]

03:22:59   vote but it did kind of work it was it was ham-fisted but we had seen many of [TS]

03:23:05   those Jedi do stuff for at least being in the back on line they SAT around a [TS]

03:23:10   table they they they helped out and some other movies and now they're now they're [TS]

03:23:15   getting done they played said music but it's just like yeah and something done [TS]

03:23:20   can do at that point yeah yeah [TS]

03:23:25   which brings us to the end of love that movie and it's the whole end of the [TS]

03:23:31   whole trilogy is the whole reason that the truth that prequel trilogy was even [TS]

03:23:34   made which was to set up the middle trilogy which was already established [TS]

03:23:39   and had to therefore had to leave as in place and had to explain certain things [TS]

03:23:45   the whole point of this is the whole point this is the only reason that the [TS]

03:23:49   prequel trilogy was even made a written and it makes no goddamn sense so let's [TS]

03:23:55   just say let's just give it up that all the most of the Jedi have been [TS]

03:23:59   extinguished the dead execute order 66 killed him but obi-wan in Europe and [TS]

03:24:09   they figure out what's gone on the November so why in the world would they [TS]

03:24:16   split up why wouldn't they either a go get go after I would I would suggest [TS]

03:24:23   that the first thing they should do is go after Anakin together well I think [TS]

03:24:29   maybe instead of that point at least a non-factor know they decide Yoda's goes [TS]

03:24:35   before a wee ones gonna go even after the end when they view on what they can [TS]

03:24:42   say that doesn't make any sense either but before that when they decide who to [TS]

03:24:46   fight if they decide we should get the Emperor first they should go together if [TS]

03:24:50   they decide we should go take care of Anakin either see if we can turn it back [TS]

03:24:54   to the good side or do something with them why in the world with him makes no [TS]

03:25:00   sense whatsoever not the only conceivable rationale is that if you [TS]

03:25:07   actually buy space and taking both of them may be counter something but I [TS]

03:25:14   would like it if you have to do it you know like that while I i mean even says [TS]

03:25:26   on stage and screen and then you the sense now go do it why would you [TS]

03:25:34   basically said that but then even given the asinine nature of their let's split [TS]

03:25:44   up even though there's only two of his left hand [TS]

03:25:46   you know right now we have we could have the element of surprise and goat if [TS]

03:25:50   there's any chance that one of us could be the Emperor surely we have a better [TS]

03:25:53   chance together we could do it right now even if you take that just let him do [TS]

03:25:57   that and say you don't fight the Emperor and obi-wan fights Vader and things he [TS]

03:26:03   kills even then afterwards you find out well obi-wan did almost killed later and [TS]

03:26:09   left him deformed into my crippled and Yoda at least 5 p.m. prior to a [TS]

03:26:15   standstill and then they decide well well now we'll just spent 20 years [TS]

03:26:21   teamed up and taken at the imperative [TS]

03:26:25   regular unit did remain closed as part of their plan wasn't ok you go take a [TS]

03:26:33   look at a tween hiding from the Emperor as they turn into the Jedi that wasn't [TS]

03:26:37   the plan either be there keep your eye on them but they waiting for their what [TS]

03:26:45   was their plan for victory right at the moment that they split up and went into [TS]

03:26:49   hiding [TS]

03:26:50   they both had fought the wanted defeated the other and OB wanted soundly defeated [TS]

03:26:55   Vader and Yoda had fought the Emperor to a standstill I would say and certainly I [TS]

03:27:00   would say given any thought into an almost an still if they went after him [TS]

03:27:04   together obi-wan and you you you know I like their chances [TS]

03:27:08   hope comes in an empire what what those movies say is that checked out here he [TS]

03:27:15   had a colossal failure institutional failure to deal with the whole you know [TS]

03:27:19   he he was he's failed in it he thought he could you know ahead of the light [TS]

03:27:25   side and you know he's basically not in exile but he's like he's given up he's [TS]

03:27:29   gone too often live in the woods right now he's checked out right and obi-wan [TS]

03:27:32   same thing he's a crazy old man who lives out in the both of them are like [TS]

03:27:36   we are defeated this is a great shame the best obi-wan can do is to make sure [TS]

03:27:40   Luke continues to hide from the amber hope he never exhibited any force powers [TS]

03:27:44   keep him down on the farm and then the very least you can say at least I'm [TS]

03:27:47   keeping these kids safe but the Empire's one we are defeated we have no plan for [TS]

03:27:52   victory at the end of stupid episode 3 [TS]

03:27:54   they're not in that headspace they're not so massively defeated and so crushed [TS]

03:28:00   by their own personal failings that they check out entirely from the conflict and [TS]

03:28:03   say well this is never going to change was gonna go out somewhere height and I [TS]

03:28:06   exactly exactly I just assumed even as I was suffering through those prequel [TS]

03:28:13   trilogy like something's going to happen at the end of this that's going to leave [TS]

03:28:16   obi-wan and Yoda both like morally defeated and instead they both left like [TS]

03:28:21   oh my god we were so close like if you're going to kill him and he was [TS]

03:28:27   right there you could have killed them know he was still alive [TS]

03:28:31   agencies like the bundle just wanna leave the room now when I see you later [TS]

03:28:38   the movie I'll be genuinely surprised I do I do kind of understand the notion of [TS]

03:28:43   not wanting to murder which is effectively what it was but then you say [TS]

03:28:48   exactly you the same for once he catches fire maybe walk back down an embankment [TS]

03:28:53   and just like I'm not going to kill you but if you happen to live in a little [TS]

03:28:58   farther 1901 to his sister and I hated that fight between you and the infer [TS]

03:29:11   that was awful [TS]

03:29:13   yeah I like when you walk in and just just totally destroyed the two Emperors [TS]

03:29:21   a fun guy to watch fight because he's kind of ugly and he even if he was fine [TS]

03:29:26   when the 4G data showed a loser in the Jetta showed up your best him I was fun [TS]

03:29:29   with that because I like the fact that he actually would I could see him using [TS]

03:29:34   a lightsaber because we'll AAA eighties night night so it's not that obscure but [TS]

03:29:39   I also like the notion that he's just hasn't quite reached that level of [TS]

03:29:44   enlightenment that he doesn't need one you know always strikes me as somebody [TS]

03:29:48   who's just before the israeli member seemed kind of like kind of Fair Oaks [TS]

03:29:54   and like when member and you're fighting you it was like using the force to move [TS]

03:29:58   heavy things in the empire [TS]

03:29:59   as you know the landing at least he gets he gets thrown off his nails get stuck [TS]

03:30:10   into the question why I never seen a good Jonas and I have talked about that [TS]

03:30:16   a lot so that we never even mentioned to me I love Sanjit exactly oh wait what a [TS]

03:30:23   waste of him [TS]

03:30:24   yeah what a waste because he's awesome and you could have been a bad kind of [TS]

03:30:29   weird Vendetta is also into Star Wars he wanted to be in the movies in what he [TS]

03:30:35   was given as like he just a bad job at the winery is he had no reason to the [TS]

03:30:38   character character has nothing to do he doesn't seem like a bad assets just like [TS]

03:30:42   how can send Jackson not seem like a bit like he seems more than anybody else [TS]

03:30:46   because everybody else is completely so there is a cool thing in that scene [TS]

03:30:52   where they go to confront the anywhere in the Emperor just jumps at them with a [TS]

03:30:56   weird fighting style like you said Farrell is perfect and I love the way [TS]

03:31:00   that he killed four of them in like 10 seconds like he's so badass and there's [TS]

03:31:05   never been a lightsaber fight every other lightsaber fight we've ever seen [TS]

03:31:08   up until this point was dramatic and had ebbs and flows and even like when du [TS]

03:31:13   coup in the second movie was kinda dominant over obi-wan and Anakin it took [TS]

03:31:18   him awhile took a while to cut off and contain it took him a while to get [TS]

03:31:21   obi-wan whereas the Emperor's boom boom boom I mean they daylight down over the [TS]

03:31:33   fight scenes in a fight scene in western movie is about fighting styles like a [TS]

03:31:38   classic movies about technique and I'm gonna learn the tiger technique in my [TS]

03:31:44   technique is better than your technique and I'm going to train in a monastery [TS]

03:31:46   like your home for good movies about fighting techniques the fight can't be [TS]

03:31:51   about who is a better fighter the fight has to be something else and in the case [TS]

03:31:54   of the end the embargo on the part of that fight the most dramatic is the [TS]

03:31:59   Emperor is revealed he's revealed in a sudden fashion to people who are there [TS]

03:32:02   are surprised that he's revealed that is not about how exactly he defeats as [TS]

03:32:06   people have [TS]

03:32:07   amber vs units not about who is stronger who is not the fight always has to be [TS]

03:32:11   about something else because again unless your movie is a kung-fu you are [TS]

03:32:14   you're actually concentrating on fighting styles you always have to have [TS]

03:32:17   the fight be happy about something else inside because that's what happens when [TS]

03:32:20   we're not like otherwise you'd have a movie where people have a conflict have [TS]

03:32:25   a long drawn-out sword fight in the winner of the sword fight when's the [TS]

03:32:27   movie that can't be what the fight is about the fight has to be about [TS]

03:32:30   something else and they just have to happen to be fighting to work out [TS]

03:32:33   whatever else it doesn't mean that you have a conversation the whole time the [TS]

03:32:36   late Princess Bride style or anything but they do the fight has to be about [TS]

03:32:40   the fight that particular fight is about I am revealed this is me about your [TS]

03:32:47   surprises old guy can do the same here I am and quickly kill them in one and once [TS]

03:32:50   that is done the fight as well so here's the thing that any I totally agree with [TS]

03:32:54   you and I think that goes back to the point is to make it the battles is that [TS]

03:32:59   you know without anything any skin in the game just really doesn't matter [TS]

03:33:03   really the only character that showed up to arrest palestine was when do the [TS]

03:33:11   other guys were just fighting to prove that I quote this get serious and sure [TS]

03:33:16   enough we dispatch them and and you know they didn't didn't matter that the [TS]

03:33:23   actual fact to win doing and property manager is actually pretty good fight I [TS]

03:33:29   did today was the only the best part of the whole thing at stake [TS]

03:33:34   certainly Windu represented the old-school strict generator and [TS]

03:33:41   Palestine was is it my interpretation of the way that scene when was that mace [TS]

03:33:50   Windu is indeed a bad as maybe he's even more powerful than Yoda disease at least [TS]

03:33:58   I will be I want to be a swordfight of them may 2010 massive something like or [TS]

03:34:08   maybe they definitely shout out to win due to be like always held in that [TS]

03:34:14   whatever the company's yeah yeah there is one that shout out sort of props when [TS]

03:34:24   do I is being a badass and if you get one of those but Sam Jackson the actor [TS]

03:34:29   could not gonna body doubles forever he just looked kind of old and tired I like [TS]

03:34:35   the way you move that because I kind of like the idea that I mean he hasn't [TS]

03:34:41   really been well actually just some fighting the second one I was going to [TS]

03:34:45   say I liked it because it was less frenetic and you could just sort of see [TS]

03:34:51   them my interpretation ya know my interpretation of the scene though is [TS]

03:34:58   that when do actually actually got the better of him and Palpatine was not [TS]

03:35:03   sandbag he was desperate and that the only way he could save himself the only [TS]

03:35:09   way he could completely if he could complete and against turned to the dark [TS]

03:35:13   side either he could turn it back in and have a mannequin you know knock window [TS]

03:35:20   out the window of his arms every did first [TS]

03:35:22   or he was dead Palpatine was a loser his only chance had nothing he couldn't be [TS]

03:35:27   mace Windu in the fight he'd lost so the only way he could win was to complete [TS]

03:35:32   any win due to failure of the filmmaking that it's not clear that a little bit [TS]

03:35:42   just because that's kind of his demo you know it's hard to say hi again that's my [TS]

03:35:48   take but I have to admit that the other take that he was sandbagging and he [TS]

03:35:52   could've [TS]

03:35:52   up the force on when do at any moment you know in my reading it was him [TS]

03:36:03   explain he was shooting the force lightning at when due and when do it [TS]

03:36:07   successfully blocking it with his lightsaber and his dad when he got [TS]

03:36:11   deformed and you know that was him like to Pete depleting his own life force I [TS]

03:36:16   don't think he wanted to be disfigured it wasn't like it was his true form is [TS]

03:36:21   not a shapeshifter he was like wrecking himself because he was so desperate you [TS]

03:36:26   know he was giving it everything he had and even everything he had wasn't enough [TS]

03:36:29   to to be if only because again he different himself but I'd really do [TS]

03:36:37   think that it's just it's just a condemnation of the filmmaking that it's [TS]

03:36:41   ambiguous because this at the same level when you know the combination in Return [TS]

03:36:46   of the Jedi it's all very clear what the stakes couldn't be in 2011 the company [TS]

03:36:52   also gonna be the best you could say both of them came two drawers or maybe [TS]

03:36:56   makes that upper hand but that doesn't make sense in the context of the labor [TS]

03:37:01   is the idea that the Emperor is the top of the heap on the dark side and you [TS]

03:37:07   would assume one on one member could take out any of the single light side [TS]

03:37:11   people simply because the dark side you know more powerful but like in terms of [TS]

03:37:16   killing people you know how do you get to be well we also do not have to be [TS]

03:37:23   depending if he gets more powerful you know like I don't know why is that is [TS]

03:37:30   the question is is the Emperor the end of Return of the Jedi [TS]

03:37:32   more powerful than the Emperor and if so who knows who cares I would say yes I [TS]

03:37:39   think so to get like more powerful as they had twenty years to get maybe not [TS]

03:37:49   with his later but at least with his you know his research into being able to [TS]

03:37:57   talk about that at the Opera that's a great scene well it's it's it's really [TS]

03:38:02   do to stop people from dying did you ever care about somebody maybe should [TS]

03:38:11   slow but it's it's tense it's an opera which I thought was kind of interesting [TS]

03:38:16   stuff like and the actor what's his name is one of the better actors deliver the [TS]

03:38:30   regret saying you know in the toilet bowl in which its winds it's actually [TS]

03:38:38   pretty it's pretty great isn't it so telling though the like in the first [TS]

03:38:46   trilogy the original trilogy everybody was at least clamoring for these [TS]

03:38:50   backstory prequels well how did Vader get like this how did and again turned [TS]

03:38:54   to the dark side whereas after the prequels nobody was like well how did [TS]

03:38:59   they learn to be assists while he was in a new hope we're like the offhandedly [TS]

03:39:06   mentioned certain things like clone war Mir mandel you know all these things [TS]

03:39:11   like they lay these little seeds like are you could flushes out forward or [TS]

03:39:14   backwards what seats relating the prequels it's like time began in the [TS]

03:39:18   previous there was nothing mentioned in the prequels about things that have [TS]

03:39:22   plagued its biggest that's not that's actually spoken in the thing is not like [TS]

03:39:35   you know something casual [TS]

03:39:40   right like the one and only thing I can think of that I kind of wanted to know [TS]

03:39:44   more about was this I have to thank you for being a nap is dead none of that [TS]

03:39:48   makes it was a Jedi who somehow Commission building a new post is him [TS]

03:39:57   too much exposition too much plot happening around like the structure [TS]

03:40:02   isn't sturdy and hanging tinsel and ornaments all over the freakin thing [TS]

03:40:06   until it's just a big giant mess and it's like you don't have good bone [TS]

03:40:09   structure and strong it's gotta be hundreds of thousands wait for me see [TS]

03:40:17   just appears and lactic Republic is a cool that's mind boggling that doesn't [TS]

03:40:30   matter what the clothes and even if it's not a matter of what it's like saying if [TS]

03:40:41   you want a standing army made entirely of identical twins it would be ok [TS]

03:40:50   anybody shares their genes but he even a guy like Dooku who has in broad strokes [TS]

03:41:00   sounds like an interesting guy was a real jet I turned to the dark side left [TS]

03:41:05   the or each you know when big deal he's an extra day do that so that makes me [TS]

03:41:12   think the texturizer think yeah that's some guys leavin get whatever they did [TS]

03:41:19   ya going to be home in broad strokes if you just defined the character before [TS]

03:41:29   you showed me the movie I would think that's an interesting [TS]

03:41:32   to know more about him than you watch the movie I am NOT interested in the [TS]

03:41:42   yeah he's a robot with forearms and eight letters I like the idea of taking [TS]

03:41:56   lightsabers from here he worked well in that cell animation when they were [TS]

03:42:03   talking about at the top of the show I like their character and then I saw him [TS]

03:42:09   and interviewing many thinks he's hopeful it's just he was just empty he [TS]

03:42:16   was just empty bad guys and they even the idea of having a respiratory [TS]

03:42:21   problems later [TS]

03:42:52   hilarious that previous two starts should be despite the fact that any kids [TS]

03:43:01   good doing it despite the fact that can shut up to his injury like you can [TS]

03:43:07   escape its like you to pieces I'm pretty sure I'm doing pretty good year like he [TS]

03:43:13   jumped into the ring of a hundred joins and then just you know chopped up the [TS]

03:43:18   bag and the bad guys still giving him shit like you know if you turn it back a [TS]

03:43:23   little bit so there's there's Darth Maul there's Count Dooku there's grievous and [TS]

03:43:29   even the Emperor himself you got four major bad guys in a whole trilogy and [TS]

03:43:33   there's one of them who I would like to know more about you know [TS]

03:43:36   how he came to be known you can combine them all into geography maybe maybe [TS]
