27: Overflow Gallery In The Bathroom

00:00:00   enduring like in line and a monumental instruct me nuts lately I keep seeing [TS]

00:00:03   accusing online meaning on the internet is grown people I guess also intelligent [TS]

00:00:12   people saying on accident rather than by accident [TS]

00:00:16   yeah like not like ironically not isolated cases but just as rampant it's [TS]

00:00:22   like it there I think this whole sections populations of think that's [TS]

00:00:26   perfectly acceptable and talking and don't think anything of it is the [TS]

00:00:32   weather is nice that's why they go to Florida but the weather in florida is [TS]

00:00:35   terrible I know if there is an ongoing right that's the whole Snowbird [TS]

00:00:39   phenomenon they go down in the winter to Florida and then come back to New York [TS]

00:00:44   and and summer less than I grandparents to my jewish grandparents who live in [TS]

00:00:48   Boca Raton every other senators primp and santa came out numbered on the show [TS]

00:00:52   on the pronunciation of that state too so just let that one slide sorry Florida [TS]

00:00:56   to be a New Yorker now you do have to support jobs from Ohio give me a ride [TS]

00:01:01   with you in the shape I don't even speak well for an Ohio and it makes you feel [TS]

00:01:08   any better [TS]

00:01:09   mongrel had a home has to say and I think I think be being from Ohio cities [TS]

00:01:14   like warship and the shopping cart is a buggy no but you do say you do say the [TS]

00:01:19   workers reasons I'm sacks you say the word qu ery like either in Ohio in or [TS]

00:01:25   crazy or crazy person yes it's not Querrey its worry that's what we have [TS]

00:01:35   follow-up to get to the very first items that ancient follow-up that we never [TS]

00:01:40   meant to mention I think one passion somehow compared with version of [TS]

00:01:44   buckshot I was running and couldn't think of a way to look up the version of [TS]

00:01:48   the app and many people and tell us if you go to Settings General usage and [TS]

00:01:52   select the apt you can see the number I did that but apparently it didn't so [TS]

00:01:56   they go they asked us if we did address the fact that if you if you even if you [TS]

00:02:03   use ice cozy you can't just take the drive and put it in your Mac on the [TS]

00:02:07   implementation of the enclosure whether it has raw disk access our weather is [TS]

00:02:11   awesome [TS]

00:02:12   media glare at an ass probably doesn't but maybe just some you know box for the [TS]

00:02:16   discounted that being said I still haven't tried it yet so I still can't [TS]

00:02:23   actually tell you whether like psychology doesn't not gonna talk about [TS]

00:02:27   that today [TS]

00:02:29   eventually someday we have tons of topics and yeah yeah we do need to talk [TS]

00:02:33   about that did you open your present yet an I did I could not resist so good but [TS]

00:02:39   let's keep right and so they will follow up here some people talking to me about [TS]

00:02:45   backups who talked about on the three phones show three phones ago show about [TS]

00:02:50   the problem of preserving your photos on your phone or otherwise [TS]

00:02:55   first one is from been grateful and he says one thing came to mind what if [TS]

00:03:01   backing up photos simply isn't as important to the current or younger [TS]

00:03:04   generation of people when you have a thousand photos on your phone how [TS]

00:03:07   important is anyone photo I thought I mentioned on the show like maybe both [TS]

00:03:11   ideas don't worry about it I don't worry some don't be such a pack rat like [TS]

00:03:15   taking pictures enjoy them look at them and ten years from now yeah you won't [TS]

00:03:19   have these photos but so what I don't think that's the case I I think it's [TS]

00:03:24   really just that [TS]

00:03:25   trying to deal with it every like trying to with all of everybody's photos is [TS]

00:03:30   just such a large-scale problem and has so many other problems we discussed with [TS]

00:03:34   things like upload bandwidth and storage things like that [TS]

00:03:38   videos are holed a problem where you know these devices can can capture new [TS]

00:03:43   data so quickly like if you love your iPhone and record a 30 second video [TS]

00:03:49   that's a few hundred megs right and some of that and so you know it's these [TS]

00:03:54   devices and the photos are that much better you know if you snap a bunch of [TS]

00:03:58   photos in the night that could be fifty mix photos are way better soon as I [TS]

00:04:02   think photos were there in the round positively video forget it like there's [TS]

00:04:05   no there's no chance that just a mean storage storage capacity alone you can [TS]

00:04:09   even start on her photos it's within the realm of reason but it's it's it's like [TS]

00:04:14   a dirty problem to Apple Inc AAPL they know that they can do online backup of [TS]

00:04:19   all your photos and videos [TS]

00:04:21   even though these devices try to meet those two things very easy to capture [TS]

00:04:24   and encourage you to capture them and they put them all together in one big [TS]

00:04:27   been on the device that's why I think like since they can't really do it well [TS]

00:04:32   and they probably won't be able to do it well for the foreseeable future of [TS]

00:04:36   backing up all of all your photos forever and all your videos for ever I [TS]

00:04:40   think they just kind of say you know what that you're on your own for that [TS]

00:04:43   even though whatever we think of that solution I think that's the clear [TS]

00:04:46   message from them I think they'll be like they would like to do it and they [TS]

00:04:50   just a bad job of it actually if we just talk more about some other things that [TS]

00:04:55   have come up related to this but yeah but bans point is that maybe it's not [TS]

00:05:02   important to the consumers to the current are your own generation like [TS]

00:05:05   we're talking about a world or whatever but like maybe younger people don't care [TS]

00:05:08   I suppose that's possible but I have a hard time believing that there is such a [TS]

00:05:13   generation gap values change change in values in terms of memories it's true [TS]

00:05:20   that the younger generations are producing much more of its maybe that [TS]

00:05:23   makes each individual photo worth a lot less but I think the idea that you know [TS]

00:05:29   you want to see pictures from your honeymoon or wedding are from when your [TS]

00:05:33   baby was born 04 when you graduated college or when you're in highschool [TS]

00:05:36   like the desire to see those and to preserve those in some form somewhere is [TS]

00:05:43   not a generational thing that people will want to do that and that's the [TS]

00:05:46   killer that's the it's not so much like I don't care about the 4 o'clock last [TS]

00:05:50   year it's ten years from now fifteen years now twenty years now you almost [TS]

00:05:54   certainly will want to see something that not every single picture but you [TS]

00:05:57   want to see something that's kind of you know maybe that would actually be a [TS]

00:06:00   viable strategy of just finding out your pictures as you go through the past I [TS]

00:06:04   don't think that's a storage capacity increased so much that won't be [TS]

00:06:08   necessary but that was one interesting point and another one this is one of [TS]

00:06:13   those emails and Jared take said he he said it should not be anyone else's [TS]

00:06:19   responsibility for the end user for backup siemens is too complex issue [TS]

00:06:24   discussed by a treat I agree with that but ignorance is not a good enough [TS]

00:06:27   reason to force autonomous backup so this present position seems to be that [TS]

00:06:34   I was asking for Apple to take care of this and said it's not apples it's not [TS]

00:06:37   obvious problem it's not apples responsibility only to persons whose [TS]

00:06:40   responsibilities to any responsibility and ignorance and you don't know enough [TS]

00:06:45   to know how to do your backups is not a good enough reason to force autonomous [TS]

00:06:49   backups in like it's like the state or the apple or whatever forcing you or [TS]

00:06:53   putting up on you this automated backup system and there's no justification for [TS]

00:06:58   that I guess this person doesn't want apple getting in their business are [TS]

00:07:01   pulling their photos down or you know whatever so there's a little bit of [TS]

00:07:05   temporal hat area here but against what kind of short to understand the law did [TS]

00:07:10   that it's not anyone's responsibility but the end-user [TS]

00:07:13   that's this is a time for this type of feelings but the train passes right so [TS]

00:07:18   it's like you know it it should be anyone else in the drivers to to you [TS]

00:07:24   know to figure out what the correct fuel air mixture is at a given temperature [TS]

00:07:28   and barometric pressure and rpm and throttle position really I mean it's not [TS]

00:07:33   really the responsible I really you know seriously drivers had 6 I'm responsible [TS]

00:07:37   for themselves and you know what was it like a joke or something you know that's [TS]

00:07:46   that's your responsibility as a driver you should not be pushing off the car [TS]

00:07:50   manufacturers but now it sounds crazy right [TS]

00:07:52   you know so the bar ships like things that used to be the responsibility of [TS]

00:07:56   the operator and people get self righteous about like I just talked about [TS]

00:07:59   shifting everything will be the responsibility of the driver and it's [TS]

00:08:01   fun to do it makes a real driver and so on and so forth but none of us would be [TS]

00:08:05   like I really I really need to control the fuel injectors you know otherwise I [TS]

00:08:10   feel like I'm really driving I'm not doing things I even heard our show [TS]

00:08:14   because I'm guessing I mean what do you think the chances are that he's a [TS]

00:08:17   desktop Linux user you can tell from to treat if he thinks user and we only we [TS]

00:08:25   only encode the show as an mp3 we don't we don't do a Globus and so I'm actually [TS]

00:08:31   kind of surprised he's he has heard the show at all [TS]

00:08:33   30 Marco I think the idea it's easy to make fun of that like people saying you [TS]

00:08:40   know you should take responsibility like this we've all had that feeling [TS]

00:08:43   especially when we're younger at certain points at like that [TS]

00:08:46   the skills that you have that you're proud of that other people don't have [TS]

00:08:50   they don't deserve the benefits that come to school so if you can't figure [TS]

00:08:53   out how to do your backups finds a problem to solve your problem you know [TS]

00:08:56   it's kind of a nanny state kind of all they're going to come and solve all your [TS]

00:08:58   stuff that's not their problem that's your problem but like its ridiculous [TS]

00:09:03   like him what do you think you're paying Apple for like they're giving you a [TS]

00:09:06   device that does things that every year does more and better things and [TS]

00:09:09   previously didn't do these things like you want them to solve your problems for [TS]

00:09:13   you if your problem is I'm worried that thirty years from now I won't have any [TS]

00:09:16   pictures of my children yes of course it is our responsibility no they're not [TS]

00:09:21   held at gunpoint having to do they want to make a product of people on the bus [TS]

00:09:23   you got to give it one so if this person doesn't want those people [TS]

00:09:27   features and is happy taking responsibility for his own backups [TS]

00:09:30   that's perfectly fine but that's not how Apple stays in business and makes [TS]

00:09:35   products that people want to buy think he has a minority opinion is also [TS]

00:09:40   probably some and I'm sure this is a relatively small effect but there will [TS]

00:09:45   be some effect where you know if if somebody had a horrible disaster which [TS]

00:09:51   really isn't uncommon these days let's say you know fungus on the toilet while [TS]

00:09:54   I'd expect their house and they're just going to drives so all this stuff is [TS]

00:09:58   gone they they get some new stuff in their insurance companies check they [TS]

00:10:02   they they go to the Apple store get a new MacBook they they log into their [TS]

00:10:06   stuff and all the stuff is back on their phones are back on their their kids [TS]

00:10:09   memories are all back that could make them incredibly loyal customers for life [TS]

00:10:14   in the same way that bring in the car now G eleven people who have been in a [TS]

00:10:19   serious car accident in which their car has performed extremely well in safety [TS]

00:10:23   and had really really protected them a lot of times then after that the only [TS]

00:10:27   will ever buy that kind of car because it doesn't make much sense and just the [TS]

00:10:32   Apple they really what you want to happen is for it to go past like that's [TS]

00:10:35   the honeymoon period transition you want to go to the point where no one is [TS]

00:10:39   overjoyed that their pictures of preserving the house burns down but [TS]

00:10:41   they're furious of every single picture is not preserved like that's the next [TS]

00:10:44   phase where you like every takes for granted [TS]

00:10:46   and it's only a downside like as a vendor you know we're not even close to [TS]

00:10:50   you right there were definitely appeared like I was thinking if you were the [TS]

00:10:53   company's do this first ever you like these pictures and Paul Bunyan be like [TS]

00:10:58   well I don't have to worry about that because insert name of company or [TS]

00:11:00   product or service that is proving itself again and again to to keep your [TS]

00:11:04   crap lots of people or emailing me and triggering mean something like why is an [TS]

00:11:08   iCloud backup in the Business Edition except for the fact that you have to pay [TS]

00:11:11   which I think I complained about like making money making him be like a small [TS]

00:11:16   amount and then thing I gotta pay taxes back up everything that's on your phone [TS]

00:11:19   I think it's cruel and still bit but you know the money is what it is and why she [TS]

00:11:24   said fine you can charge forever but the same well alright so if you charge money [TS]

00:11:28   you pay for iCloud backup your phone is not a perfect solution and I was amazed [TS]

00:11:32   at the number of people who came up with that and I was like you know children [TS]

00:11:36   were born before 2007 just screw them I guess I mean like their pictures on the [TS]

00:11:41   phone you didn't take them on the phone because you don't have an iPhone and [TS]

00:11:44   people have you think all cameras I know they're so rare and stuff like that and [TS]

00:11:47   people most people to take all the pictures on their phone I know phones [TS]

00:11:51   are popular but I think people still have cameras like I think that is a big [TS]

00:11:55   enough for you can't ignore so people have cameras and people have children [TS]

00:11:59   born in 2007 there exists pictures that are not on their phone and it's just not [TS]

00:12:04   a tenable solution like storage phones on increasing rapidly enough especially [TS]

00:12:08   people going to take any video at all for you to be able to have your library [TS]

00:12:11   or even if your entire phone is completely backed up with iCloud all [TS]

00:12:15   that good stuff and because you pay for it [TS]

00:12:17   that does not solve your photo problem for your family or even for your [TS]

00:12:20   individual life unless you have no cameras and no no memories that you care [TS]

00:12:25   about before you got your first iPhone that you've been sleeping a pic to your [TS]

00:12:28   phone serve your pictures from one point I think that is currently not tenable [TS]

00:12:32   this maybe in the future knowing well have cameras and all the babies born [TS]

00:12:35   before 2007 cares about them anymore I noticed be like you know I came of age [TS]

00:12:40   in the age of the iPhone all the pictures always been my phone every year [TS]

00:12:43   i transfer everything on my pictures to my new phone there are backed up and I [TS]

00:12:45   caught myself and I pay for it every year and therefore I never have to worry [TS]

00:12:49   about my photos but I think that is incredibly rare I'm not there [TS]

00:12:53   so let me ask stupid question the night why doesn't apple with their eight [TS]

00:12:59   gazillion dollars in the bank just by CrashPlan or or I'm drawing a blank are [TS]

00:13:04   ever take some pics I just signed up for exact after the last shot I know about [TS]

00:13:09   it for a while and I'm just trying to sever big thing was a good night like I [TS]

00:13:15   don't know if I keep using it like $50 for your newspaper the whole year I just [TS]

00:13:19   wanted to see how they did like how long will take them to get all my photos how [TS]

00:13:22   good will they be closed every Pixie's the takes all your photos and like the [TS]

00:13:27   name says the keep them forever for resolution they're organizing for you [TS]

00:13:30   and they will suck them from any one of your devices and by the way many [TS]

00:13:33   children tell me the Google+ promised to do something similar for taking on your [TS]

00:13:37   Android foreign they've pulled into Google+ yeah I thought about it like [TS]

00:13:42   people saying you know that our Google+ will do that for you I keep getting like [TS]

00:13:46   they have not they have long way to go before I'm going to trust them to take [TS]

00:13:49   care of all my pictures from early on and trust and keep track of my email for [TS]

00:13:52   every every female I have on my own computer that's backed up like they have [TS]

00:13:57   not heard that word ever picks at least you said look at the whole business is [TS]

00:14:00   in there for good name like maybe they're going to go into business maybe [TS]

00:14:03   they're starting maybe Apple gonna buy them and shut them down but clearly for [TS]

00:14:06   as long as they're in business they're totally serious about keeping your [TS]

00:14:09   pictures and so I I signed up for it it pulled out all my pictures his first I [TS]

00:14:14   just let it go on like a little library and I saw that it was working on a star [TS]

00:14:17   and that was like the free trial when I signed up their account my wife but [TS]

00:14:21   she's got there the family iPhoto library on her computer it pulled the [TS]

00:14:25   mall and pick up location but it was pretty seamless network their web [TS]

00:14:30   interface is probably not how it won a match traffickers but it's interesting [TS]

00:14:34   that if someone says where's that picture of whatever now no matter where [TS]

00:14:37   I am in the world I could ever text.com and like find the picture they're asking [TS]

00:14:41   about and give them the full res lied I did already after came back from [TS]

00:14:43   vacation on on a slope where is the picture of us with the grandkids because [TS]

00:14:47   I hadn't copied onto their sdcard last day we were there right before we left [TS]

00:14:51   right and she sent me an email how does it work I just pulled the website pulled [TS]

00:14:54   out the high res pictures email them so I gave the the December thumbs up I [TS]

00:14:59   still think I should buy them and just like they seem to have worked out most [TS]

00:15:03   of these things are what is an apple do that [TS]

00:15:04   at charges similar amount of money may be less built into every iPhone I know [TS]

00:15:09   that kind of trying to do the same thing with photostream but nobody I know even [TS]

00:15:13   the Super geeks knows all the rules about how photostream works and we [TS]

00:15:16   shouldn't have to think it should just be like every picture of their pics we [TS]

00:15:19   grab all your photos as soon as we can keep them forever that's easy to [TS]

00:15:22   remember that being said though you know it's it's it agree I have actually used [TS]

00:15:29   to have heard great things they've been sponsored the talk show like a year ago [TS]

00:15:32   or something I heard that then daring fireball that instance it talks about [TS]

00:15:36   the same thing I know that's what I think I think you know it's it's a great [TS]

00:15:48   service for the role you just described of you know having everything having [TS]

00:15:54   instant access to everything from anywhere that's fantastic that being [TS]

00:15:58   said though I still don't think it's wise to trust any web service for the [TS]

00:16:02   primary storage and backup of your photos I like what comes after tertiary [TS]

00:16:10   whatever comes after yeah that's what is because I've got like you know backups [TS]

00:16:15   in local backup to have crashed lands one more because it's cheaper than I [TS]

00:16:19   guess it is cheaper $50 to the year something it seems cheap to me that it [TS]

00:16:24   was like unlimited was so focused on photos I like the idea that this would [TS]

00:16:28   be extra backup because like I'm willing to spend the extra money not to back up [TS]

00:16:31   all my crap to yet another service but just like now now we're getting down to [TS]

00:16:35   brass tacks like what do you really care about right [TS]

00:16:37   photos and video but like thats like a twenty years up think about whether I [TS]

00:16:43   want to do it again whether it's earned its value but I would definitely say [TS]

00:16:46   like now that I'm done this and I need to backup my iPhoto library no no [TS]

00:16:49   definitely not just you know it's another backstop against disaster but [TS]

00:16:55   but I think a lot of people wouldn't use it like that like a lot of people use [TS]

00:16:58   these things as primary story like a better than nothing though when should [TS]

00:17:03   we go out like someone someone someone who wasn't any backup before and there's [TS]

00:17:06   no way you're going to be able to convince and even used time machine [TS]

00:17:09   because it's too complicated for every like look sign up for the service at [TS]

00:17:12   least then you feel like [TS]

00:17:13   these you have some backstopping that's your version of crash land yet but you [TS]

00:17:18   know the problem the problem of photos you as you said you care less about a [TS]

00:17:22   photo you took one year ago and more about a photo you money taken ten years [TS]

00:17:25   ago I got my first digital camera thirteen years ago and so that's what I [TS]

00:17:31   have pictures I have a good number of like you know regularly taking pictures [TS]

00:17:36   not like two or three year like in the film days but you know I have a good [TS]

00:17:39   number of pictures being taken from the year 2000 forward and back then I mean [TS]

00:17:47   first of all they look like crap because even though it's really nice camera it [TS]

00:17:50   was low resolution but they still believe it was like 1.3 megapixels and [TS]

00:17:54   it was 2.0 it was very high-end 2.0 [TS]

00:17:57   paradox that these ones that you care about from 10 years ago that they look [TS]

00:18:01   terrible and you care about them so deeply cry cry me a river mine were [TS]

00:18:06   taken with this camera's memory disk space it's not like I think it's [TS]

00:18:11   negative was like the size of my pinky pinky finger now but I still have these [TS]

00:18:18   in Lightroom although at some point along the way lost full resolution [TS]

00:18:22   versions of many of them and so I only have like thumbnails I believe like from [TS]

00:18:26   aperture six years ago or something like that but anyway you as a whole lot of [TS]

00:18:32   these that I really care alot about and I would love to keep and certainly the [TS]

00:18:36   older I get the more I want to keep them because they'll be further away more [TS]

00:18:40   distant memories but you know any kind of web service that will never will [TS]

00:18:46   never satisfy that kind of time schedule doesn't work that way I mean it's it's [TS]

00:18:50   like you are you saying that no web service will be around that long [TS]

00:18:56   unlikely that that a a photo storage and backup service or feature of a bigger [TS]

00:19:03   service will generally be around for greater than 10 year time scales but [TS]

00:19:08   they don't have to be like that they definitely don't have to be like all [TS]

00:19:11   they have to do is have duplicate copies of everything you have somewhere else [TS]

00:19:15   and when they go out of business it's on you to find an alternate service to take [TS]

00:19:19   to be a backstop and luxury some other backup services company you're not [TS]

00:19:22   expecting a single thing it's kind of like your day to your data is an [TS]

00:19:26   expected [TS]

00:19:26   to live on whatever hardware was created on you carried along with you and [TS]

00:19:30   storage increases you just keep bringing and copy it from thing to think so I [TS]

00:19:33   envisioned as having various backup services and they're having to go out of [TS]

00:19:37   business are all prefer one to the other whatever I will stop using that 10 they [TS]

00:19:40   would disappear and I will take it that's my backup it would I will take [TS]

00:19:44   that data which I already have a copy of that's just one of the many backups and [TS]

00:19:47   put it onto another services let it go out of another I think that's a [TS]

00:19:50   reasonable way of the only way really to bring your date along with you through [TS]

00:19:54   your life is to constantly move it for services service hardware hardware so I [TS]

00:19:58   don't think you have to worry about like the longevity of the company's except [TS]

00:20:01   within like 10 for companies going to get a six-week waste your time but other [TS]

00:20:06   than that I think I'm comfortable that oh yeah but that's what we're nerds you [TS]

00:20:09   know we're ok doing that kind of Management and everything for web [TS]

00:20:13   services you don't think regular people can do that I can just sign up and then [TS]

00:20:18   will the problem is if you're relying only on a web service like you know [TS]

00:20:22   let's say all your photos are backed up to Apple's magical thing that that [TS]

00:20:26   doesn't exist but say it's exhausting all your photos I club let's say in four [TS]

00:20:31   years Apple stuff starts to really suck and you want to switch to Android or [TS]

00:20:35   whatever is existing in four years [TS]

00:20:38   how do you do that you stop using Apple service be forced to have all of your [TS]

00:20:43   photos because they were just the backup that wasn't the only copy of another [TS]

00:20:47   place where google like six hours they're very good about letting you get [TS]

00:20:50   your crap out right now and again randy is little bit tacky but at least you can [TS]

00:20:54   get it but with the online services you just discontinue use of those services [TS]

00:20:57   discontinue service products and when you set up your new thing you copy all [TS]

00:21:02   your old crap on to your new thing and if the if the new thing really is better [TS]

00:21:05   and a smart the problem of some kind of migration assistant has windows [TS]

00:21:09   Migration Assistant to grab your windows and put it on your Mac so you don't lose [TS]

00:21:13   like your Excel file your taxes in or whatever that's the biggest part of the [TS]

00:21:18   process online services easiest to switch up because it's really just a [TS]

00:21:23   matter of stop using the Website stop paying the bill [TS]

00:21:26   canceled hopefully through their website and sign up for another one in a web [TS]

00:21:29   form that's easier I think the transferring your day with the Migration [TS]

00:21:32   Assistant when you upgrade from one computer to another [TS]

00:21:38   but I think we're within the realm of possibility I would be happy if everyone [TS]

00:21:44   in my family just used every Pixar something similar could even though I [TS]

00:21:47   know that inadequate I tried to get them all the time machine and mounting and [TS]

00:21:51   unmounting volumes is beyond the realm of normal computers apparently but [TS]

00:21:59   that's why you get a time capsule and it all happens magically through the air [TS]

00:22:03   very slowly and imagine time capsule sell that welcomes think about you know [TS]

00:22:08   the the health problems in their it you know already [TS]

00:22:12   airport extremes are way more expensive the most wireless routers and most [TS]

00:22:16   people now have internet service if they have broadband at home in the USA at [TS]

00:22:19   least usually earn a service comes with a wireless router or they they talk you [TS]

00:22:24   into leasing there's every month cuz they tell you that you need it and so [TS]

00:22:29   the market for wireless routers already pretty cheap and commodity oriented but [TS]

00:22:35   then Apple comes out with a $200 router which of course we have nobody else does [TS]

00:22:40   everyone else is sane and if you want you can spend like $400 to get this [TS]

00:22:46   moment scientist inside of it and their interests are referred to toaster like [TS]

00:22:50   what you like taiwan around her and I want like something like a network [TS]

00:22:54   attached storage backup saying those both sound like good things but while I [TS]

00:22:57   went a combined nine your time like what if you want more storage but your [TS]

00:23:00   address will find what you want if you want to read every story just want like [TS]

00:23:04   you're you're combining two things don't need to be combined in time plus they [TS]

00:23:08   had terrible reputation for reliability and I still think times that work is not [TS]

00:23:12   great but I don't know why I mean like conceptually it sounds good but they're [TS]

00:23:17   not realistically speaking the product was great and I don't think you're right [TS]

00:23:20   I think it's not a public that's a tough sell [TS]

00:23:22   rich people who come into the Apple store and they're like well you know [TS]

00:23:26   they're really good one to your backups automatic like that sounds good to [TS]

00:23:29   people in the store I don't want to have to worry about backups I'll do this and [TS]

00:23:33   most normal people do like 200 bucks but a lot of money like all right and then [TS]

00:23:37   you later see but I have to disagree with the with you guys because if you [TS]

00:23:41   are ok with the party said we have a little bit extra money other expensive [TS]

00:23:45   but it let's say you just got burned [TS]

00:23:47   and you just lost a bunch of data and your Mac user and you just wanted the [TS]

00:23:51   problem to be solved [TS]

00:23:52   what do you do you find out that there's this thing called time machine and you [TS]

00:23:56   need an external drive to do it on and you don't wanna you're not officially [TS]

00:24:00   kind of person so you don't want to go to Amazon getting closure even getting [TS]

00:24:03   closer with driving you just want one box that will solve all of these [TS]

00:24:07   problems and whether or not it actually solves these problems I think to Joe [TS]

00:24:12   consumer that's maybe just slightly more intelligent but has the wherewithal to [TS]

00:24:18   think about backing things up I think a time capsule is a really good solution [TS]

00:24:22   for that person now granted technically may not be the best it's very slow kinda [TS]

00:24:28   crummy but if you just want the problem to go away he just went through a little [TS]

00:24:32   bit of money the problem and make it go away I think it's a pretty reasonable [TS]

00:24:35   answer if she actually did that then I'm not time to time capsule he did that [TS]

00:24:39   maybe you have a point but I still think the price will be a big barrier that [TS]

00:24:43   like I think it's easier I think at this point [TS]

00:24:44   easier to sell people on spending a little extra for the iCloud backup then [TS]

00:24:47   would be for them to play out ahead of time even though the club I could have [TS]

00:24:51   done more for the long haul or whatever that's not how people think but at the [TS]

00:24:54   products doesn't do like it doesn't do what they say it's going to do it does [TS]

00:24:58   not solve your problems that lets you experience the joy of sharing questions [TS]

00:25:02   of that thing i menu bars are we spending is there a reason for that last [TS]

00:25:07   backup was like six months ago [TS]

00:25:09   time capsule EA if if it actually pulled it off if if it weren't reliably we will [TS]

00:25:19   talk about now stop and get the transporter which I have now and I've [TS]

00:25:22   been using that works the way you expected to work it works as advertised [TS]

00:25:27   whereas the time capsule it it's like the whole thing is gonna do Time Machine [TS]

00:25:30   backups to it and it's not really the time capsule harbors fault probably but [TS]

00:25:35   many things conspired to make Network Time Machine backups in time as you in [TS]

00:25:39   general less efficient and good and potentially have the potential get [TS]

00:25:44   wedged my new thing is that now [TS]

00:25:46   Time Machine deal so poorly with when the disc fills up it's such a bad [TS]

00:25:51   judgment you're going to need you now just sitting there with him you told the [TS]

00:25:54   manually deleting old backups cause I can't figure out like it takes like two [TS]

00:25:57   days to figure out looked just delete [TS]

00:26:00   the backups and you're not gonna make it like tries again and again it goes all [TS]

00:26:04   the way through its limit bills and start over again was always through its [TS]

00:26:07   limited to just take hours and hours for to figure out this all I didn't make [TS]

00:26:10   enough free space I know you didn't so the leading all day long so I can [TS]

00:26:16   finally get enough free space to make a complete back that is absolutely painful [TS]

00:26:20   you're absolutely right [TS]

00:26:21   anyone ever I'd like I haven't actually had the the news my psychology said I [TS]

00:26:24   haven't had that Philip yet it's a giant is going there but when it does feel [TS]

00:26:28   like historically what I've done whenever my time machine fills up is I [TS]

00:26:33   just for my wife and start over I just delete the partition is way faster than [TS]

00:26:37   the files just leave partition the disc and start over and you know if if I lose [TS]

00:26:43   data during that time I have back please [TS]

00:26:44   yeah it's time machine does do ok with small incremental backups but like if [TS]

00:26:52   you use VMware always at work all the time like any modification to make a [TS]

00:26:56   couple of my big PM's and it's like oh my god another 3 gigabytes to back out [TS]

00:26:59   because you just touch lots of pages on his little to you might strike files to [TS]

00:27:02   VMware writes out and you just see times like you're not going to get a free [TS]

00:27:07   space I don't know why you're not going to but you're not going to answer sure [TS]

00:27:11   enough when I manually but small backups like 1500 mags it can make it through [TS]

00:27:16   it's the big ones [TS]

00:27:18   track of stuff to technical reasons why file Time Machine the way it does [TS]

00:27:23   everything is inefficient and crappy and like when it first came out like [TS]

00:27:28   argument chance of doing all files that I'm really inefficient and the Crazy [TS]

00:27:31   Heart Link 31 I'm sure they will enhance it over the years no really well [TS]

00:27:36   something that is actually be enhanced overtime and actually works is our [TS]

00:29:43   them that it's [TS]

00:29:45   I'm not going to I'm not gonna sit here and tell you that you should host every [TS]

00:29:47   website that you will ever make in your life on Squarespace it's all about [TS]

00:29:50   priorities and needs and values and the fact is you know I would not have any [TS]

00:29:56   provider of any blog platform be the only place where the all the photos of [TS]

00:30:02   my kids live that's just not what these things are supposed to do however when [TS]

00:30:07   I'm launching something and I don't have time to make a whole new site code a [TS]

00:30:12   whole CMS or install somebody else's and keep you updated and all that stuff is [TS]

00:30:17   not part of the value [TS]

00:30:18   exactly like and for most people from most sites that exist they don't need to [TS]

00:30:23   be anything custom they don't need to be coded from scratch they don't need to be [TS]

00:30:26   having their own installation of WordPress somebody has to maintain like [TS]

00:30:30   there's so there's so many site types out there but I wish every restaurant [TS]

00:30:35   that I ever search for would just have this i dont Squarespace because they all [TS]

00:30:39   have these crappy custom-built flash sites from 10 years ago that don't work [TS]

00:30:42   on any mobile devices these days near out somewhere you entrust Iran yeah it's [TS]

00:30:46   a disaster there's so many categories like that my wife is a nice Christmas [TS]

00:30:50   for her photography site there's all sorts of categories where it just does [TS]

00:30:55   not make sense even if you could make make it yourself it doesn't make sense [TS]

00:30:58   to hand code every single thing because no one's going to say well I was gonna [TS]

00:31:02   listen to this podcast as their website by hand like it you can't even tell him [TS]

00:31:06   that the odds are the odds that year especially for most people the odds are [TS]

00:31:09   you going to handle the website it looks and works better than a safe space one [TS]

00:31:12   are slim and also have you seen other podcast website they're usually pretty [TS]

00:31:16   bad I mean you know templeton gonna fight by five and a lot of the other [TS]

00:31:19   podcast sites out there [TS]

00:31:21   terrible it's not a core part of the park has experienced just like they [TS]

00:31:24   arrived on their phone like that's how it works and we have to have a website [TS]

00:31:27   it has to be there and that's what they are like this this reasons for it but [TS]

00:31:31   it's not it's like is that where you want to spend your time answers you know [TS]

00:31:34   I'd rather and rather delegate that exactly anyway what's hot topic in a few [TS]

00:31:41   things I could bring up but we have such a long list the rest of us I was shocked [TS]

00:31:46   I was busy reading her Squarespace add tab [TS]

00:31:50   I think the first item which probably saved for last make sense but good yeah [TS]

00:32:02   that is gonna be alright so what else do you want to talk about this and that and [TS]

00:32:08   Twitter I read that article two spans are about something he wrote but [TS]

00:32:15   friend of the show running for TechCrunch now yeah I did he leave next [TS]

00:32:22   webber's yeah he left the next web and got quite emotional TechCrunch actually [TS]

00:32:27   alright well anyway he did write that they didn't jive ji be with the new [TS]

00:32:33   tweet display rules and so I want to see him for that job rate you stay away from [TS]

00:32:40   those words I'm like I it's like whom [TS]

00:32:43   and yes we don't even get me started on that I every once in case you every [TS]

00:32:50   person on all of the Internet has sent me that link and I appreciate every one [TS]

00:32:56   of you being you know lists famous do whatever you have to it that angry [TS]

00:33:07   feeling you're getting like you have to use the rational part of your brain to [TS]

00:33:11   wrangle that because each person who sending it to you doesn't know about all [TS]

00:33:16   the other people I know it's not really it's not reasonable to ask them please [TS]

00:33:21   before you send me anything [TS]

00:33:23   check my replies to make sure 800 people like people are still sending me like [TS]

00:33:27   that [TS]

00:33:27   pop art culture whatever poster you can buy of all the video game controller I [TS]

00:33:34   still get that like every week [TS]

00:33:36   your inclination as a you know as a lizard brain you know perilous APIs to [TS]

00:33:42   be like stop sending me these things I know don't you know I know but like in [TS]

00:33:46   the human part of your brain to be no they don't know you know nor should they [TS]

00:33:50   have to know you know they're just trying to do something nice for you so [TS]

00:33:53   don't get frustrated [TS]

00:33:54   where you can actually not be frustrated like you phase one is like being [TS]

00:33:58   pressured phase two is realizing you should be frustrating tamping down phase [TS]

00:34:01   three is actually not getting frustrated so I'm repeater breakthrough it is nice [TS]

00:34:08   because you know I was nice to the people think of me and that amazes me [TS]

00:34:13   that anyone thinks that I exist outside of an hour or two that they listen to [TS]

00:34:16   the podcast but that being said I got a million copies of it and I was like my [TS]

00:34:22   goodness that this is a lot one thing you can do though because you do know [TS]

00:34:26   that we're getting it is not see see us on your replies to those people you [TS]

00:34:32   don't have to include me and Marco because you actually use lead teller [TS]

00:34:36   sometimes I do but usually I don't I used to do it a lot when we fight this [TS]

00:34:40   is terrible we should talk about something else but alright well I'll be [TS]

00:34:43   put before either do like the other thing about this is the first person who [TS]

00:34:47   sends to you actually is providing a service because before the first person [TS]

00:34:51   sent it to you you hadn't seen it and then you had every other person is doing [TS]

00:34:55   exactly the same things that first person that saw the gratitude of the [TS]

00:34:58   first person should extend all those people because any one of them could [TS]

00:35:02   have been the first person and if no one sent it to you you would be living a [TS]

00:35:05   life not having seen that will come back unless you read them every day which I [TS]

00:35:08   seem you don't actually do follow me on Twitter which was the worst part of all [TS]

00:35:12   its headlights fly-by crap I know it's a boom boom boom boom boom boom and I'm [TS]

00:35:18   getting like at replies from the entire internet I do appreciate it was funny [TS]

00:35:23   and it didn't help you learn more now you know the funny thing is somebody had [TS]

00:35:28   said to me a while ago [TS]

00:35:29   here's what you do in this is between her and I apologize 22 who you are yeah [TS]

00:35:35   I think that's right i pod us to remember that is they said you're just [TS]

00:35:39   substitute either hear him and figure it out if its he its who benefits him its [TS]

00:35:44   who was not a new thing you know elementary schools hundred years exactly [TS]

00:35:51   so [TS]

00:35:52   I don't remember what you were asking did actually help viewers like many [TS]

00:35:57   things it's kind of a humorous rehash of things that might seem before it's all [TS]

00:36:01   about the presentation and delivery and they look for that was like oh you're [TS]

00:36:05   doing this you know gathering humorous things from the internet and packaging [TS]

00:36:10   up in an attractive form in a single place that's that's called you know [TS]

00:36:13   that's that's that's called entertainment that he had so much crap [TS]

00:36:18   and he says it is because he like he has his mistake was being honest about like [TS]

00:36:25   look I find things that are funny on the internet and you know sympathize i [TS]

00:36:30   single fighting had of them that hopefully is greater than the sum of its [TS]

00:36:33   parts [TS]

00:36:34   people say I've seen that before thats derivative which is ridiculous because [TS]

00:36:37   that's what all art is he was just he was just more honest about it and freaks [TS]

00:36:41   people out so he is really funny I love his stuff I i have his picture about his [TS]

00:36:47   his poster about dogs I have it on my bathroom wall like he's I love his are I [TS]

00:36:52   love his style of his humor like i think is really funny and he gets he gets an [TS]

00:36:56   amazing amount of crap for people I really don't get it [TS]

00:36:59   more subjective like you're someone you know something insurance and financing [TS]

00:37:05   for their meals that it exists but it's not funny well if you don't find it [TS]

00:37:07   funny humor subjective I think that the guy can be obnoxious in the doctor's [TS]

00:37:12   humor is annoying and if you don't find it funny if you don't find the art style [TS]

00:37:15   funny like you know you don't like it I'm just you know you're right it's a [TS]

00:37:19   it's a lot of crap and I think he has a lot of crap because he's honest about [TS]

00:37:23   how he makes things and it seems like low class and he seems fine with it but [TS]

00:37:26   there's like no you I want you to do things for you know be inspired and [TS]

00:37:31   completely original and not really in any way and not tell me the crash crash [TS]

00:37:36   commercialism that enters into your calculus like a techniques as living [TS]

00:37:39   that's part of being good at what he does and he's good at it so I can add up [TS]

00:37:43   but there's there's two funny things that come out of what you just said [TS]

00:37:46   firstly with regard to the oatmeal I'm the king of sending the there versus [TS]

00:37:52   there [TS]

00:37:53   comic to people because that drives me nuts when people confused T H ey [TS]

00:37:58   apostrophe re with tht I R and thare and that drives me insane it's often sending [TS]

00:38:04   these links people forever in some really I deserve every one of these [TS]

00:38:08   links and all the links that will come after I've [TS]

00:38:10   media statement of purpose with elementary school children who is [TS]

00:38:13   messing up their there and they're you have no idea I don't want anybody yet [TS]

00:38:18   exact people have impeccable grammar I don't blame people for any more on the [TS]

00:38:27   edge of autocorrect autocratic but always pick the wrong on my fingers my [TS]

00:38:35   fingers typed the wrong ones all the time [TS]

00:38:37   right and I told him no controller is broken at my fingers typed the wrong one [TS]

00:38:44   and I totally know the right 1 I'm never had any confusion about it but I don't [TS]

00:38:48   know why I never learned the real when I was in third grade and just never forgot [TS]

00:38:51   it never any confusion and yet they come out of your fingers like that but [TS]

00:38:55   they're they're they're like those are spelled out everything like one key [TS]

00:38:57   difference in your but anyway the other thing I wanted to say is with regard to [TS]

00:39:03   Marco having the poster pro tip if you ever happened to be in the arm and [TS]

00:39:07   household go to the bathroom because that's where the best artists well yeah [TS]

00:39:12   because you know if we'll let me keep a lot of the best art in general purpose [TS]

00:39:15   rooms so I can get the bathroom [TS]

00:39:19   raw deal you should get the computer room I don't like the laws in the [TS]

00:39:28   computer room and so I have to accept overflow gallery so to speak [TS]

00:39:36   called overflow gallery in the bathroom so we have anything to say about this [TS]

00:39:44   and that and Twitter I guess not [TS]

00:39:45   and even if I told him that story I read the article in the manner you tell me I [TS]

00:39:51   just thought it was interesting that there there as I phrase in the show [TS]

00:39:54   notes sitting in a tree KS ing Justin at that Twitter's allowing worked with this [TS]

00:40:00   and that even more than just allowing it they work [TS]

00:40:02   together in order to get the to get that integration back in and I thought that [TS]

00:40:06   was kinda cool in a positive step it's only a story if you think this is part [TS]

00:40:10   of a turnaround Twitter and I do not know that's very fair I would also say [TS]

00:40:14   not I mean if this than that they have funding and everything right now have a [TS]

00:40:18   staff writers and then I think so the fact is like in a Twitter will give API [TS]

00:40:24   access to two partners and so if you're willing to devote enough time and money [TS]

00:40:28   into like courting them with sales people and relations and everything else [TS]

00:40:33   you can become a partner and so you know it's not that surprising that a company [TS]

00:40:39   with funding and a staff was able to convince her to give them a pixs like [TS]

00:40:42   that real end especially since they're really not in any way competitive with [TS]

00:40:47   Twitter and they don't look like they ever will be competitive with Twitter [TS]

00:40:50   Facebook being cut off from their products and interacting with Twitter [TS]

00:40:55   and vice versa [TS]

00:40:55   that's because traders afraid of the competition and avena boosting some of [TS]

00:40:59   the social network or or some of the social network coming in and like [TS]

00:41:02   stealing all the all the following released its way from Twitter all the [TS]

00:41:05   traffic and everything if this and that is not really a threat at all they're [TS]

00:41:10   they're big enough that Twitter can can make a deal with them but they're small [TS]

00:41:15   enough and and narrow enough in scope of what they do that they're really never [TS]

00:41:19   gonna be a threat it's very very clear they're not they're not looking to take [TS]

00:41:23   over and replace Twitter you know so it doesn't surprise me that they were able [TS]

00:41:26   to make a deal I do want to talk about the gold iPhone that's not cold [TS]

00:41:31   champagne anything to say about that called itself as a champagne is that I [TS]

00:41:37   am keeping up with the rumors that someone somewhere rumor that that is [TS]

00:41:40   what they're going to call the colored people just saying that as a backlash [TS]

00:41:43   against the really really go look they're saying it as a description of [TS]

00:41:46   what the color is there any doubt that Apple would called Golden State of [TS]

00:41:50   champagne they have to make a phone that end with a goldish color they're gonna [TS]

00:41:54   call gold do things like calling at like midnight mist or something right [TS]

00:42:00   yeah that's a reasonable but usually it's going to be cold to me I put many [TS]

00:42:05   was gold [TS]

00:42:06   I feel like it's something that I was expecting is you know what was the you [TS]

00:42:13   got one of those with the power powerbook III with the bronze keyboard [TS]

00:42:18   or was it achieves a PowerBook with a bronze keyboard and bronze perfectly [TS]

00:42:24   fits with the caller to some brands but gold bronze yellowish whatever they've [TS]

00:42:31   made ugly divisive before they were diploid came in like a lime green and [TS]

00:42:36   pink and like this terrible teal pastels and gold is not outside the realm of [TS]

00:42:41   something that I would make if they make it good for them I mean even the iPod [TS]

00:42:45   touch has come in pretty terrible colors I would say I would say the current [TS]

00:42:49   yellowish green it whatever that yellow green color as for the iPod touch at the [TS]

00:42:55   terrible color it's hideous it but they do they sell it yeah it's people like [TS]

00:42:59   you so you know if they're obviously they're all the rumors are playing [TS]

00:43:04   pretty solidly to this iPhone 5 seed having this plastic back and being cheap [TS]

00:43:09   and coming in all these iowa 7 palette colors or at least three or four of them [TS]

00:43:15   and that looks pretty likely and that makes a lot of sense we just need the [TS]

00:43:20   name it after hipster beer and will sell like hot cakes and find that the same [TS]

00:43:25   shade I don't know the beers main market if they find some beer that is the same [TS]

00:43:28   color as this phone is and there you go call that the funny thing is they get so [TS]

00:43:33   much crap every every funds come out pretty much since the iPhone 4 they've [TS]

00:43:37   gotten so much crap for not being different enough not being knew enough [TS]

00:43:40   not being innovative all that crap mostly for superficial reasons mostly [TS]

00:43:45   because they didn't change the case or even the iPhone 5 came out which is a [TS]

00:43:48   massive change people say well it's kind of similar like that I think now they're [TS]

00:43:55   gonna have what appears to be two different models with one model being [TS]

00:44:00   totally new exterior wise and the other model being you know the same quote as [TS]

00:44:07   the iPhone 5 but having new got a new camera probably new faster CPU probably [TS]

00:44:12   and having the extra color that's radically different looking from the [TS]

00:44:15   other two [TS]

00:44:16   I think people will be very happy with this release I think I think they'll [TS]

00:44:20   actually say wow this finally we got new new stuff and then iOS 7 also looks very [TS]

00:44:25   new and the software I think that this is like an overall like massive [TS]

00:44:30   reactionary storms can all hit launched in response to the last three or four [TS]

00:44:34   years of everyone saying Apple is innovating at all we talked to several [TS]

00:44:39   shows back in like if they could have an iPhone 6 a new form factor boy that [TS]

00:44:43   would really just bring it home but you know they probably wouldn't probably [TS]

00:44:47   gonna do five thousand that seems like I mean I gotta do what they gotta do that [TS]

00:44:51   you know you can't just magically know it you know you know would also be great [TS]

00:44:54   if we had a brand new iPhone 6 well there seems like that going to unless [TS]

00:44:57   they really really surprises but I what they have rumored if all those things [TS]

00:45:01   are true that is totally adequate more more more than adequate now what do you [TS]

00:45:05   think you know my my my statement on Twitter couple of days back was that you [TS]

00:45:10   know it looks because right now [TS]

00:45:12   iPhones we can we can predict pretty well in advance these days because the [TS]

00:45:17   supply chain to make enough iPhones satisfy the demand for them is so huge [TS]

00:45:22   so far ahead of time that it's almost inevitable that supply chain will leak [TS]

00:45:27   in the months leading up to an iPhone so that's why i like it that's what we've [TS]

00:45:30   seen pretty much the entire iPhone 5 see already we've seen the back shelf for [TS]

00:45:35   the iPhone 5s and who knows we represent different the front so it's pretty [TS]

00:45:42   obvious now what we're getting and what we're not getting and so it is pretty [TS]

00:45:46   obvious that there's probably not going to be a quote iPhone 6 or anything [TS]

00:45:50   beyond what we see as the five see and what we see as the 5s online and so I [TS]

00:45:56   tried it a few days ago that it it appears pretty pretty clear now that [TS]

00:46:00   we're not going to get a larger screen iPhone this year and I think that's a [TS]

00:46:04   mistake what do you think about that I think they could have made a bigger [TS]

00:46:08   found this year they would have but they can I mean we talked about the bigger [TS]

00:46:11   fun like it they've got to do it it's going to happen but we're like oh [TS]

00:46:15   because they pull it off this year until we started talking about the iPhone 6 [TS]

00:46:18   and different form factors be like they like it or not they can't do it like the [TS]

00:46:22   five seed rumor thing is the new form factor this year I've been playing a [TS]

00:46:26   long time [TS]

00:46:27   doesn't seem like they had a large hole in the pipeline for now but I i'm not as [TS]

00:46:32   down on them as it being a mistake as you are cuz I think I think they can [TS]

00:46:35   last one more holiday season but just barely like it would be better if you [TS]

00:46:39   was out now I think they'll survive as it is I bet they wish they could have it [TS]

00:46:44   out sooner too I know some people giving you crap on trial I go to talk about I [TS]

00:46:48   meet people who don't listen to our podcast they think you're saying they're [TS]

00:46:51   gonna have one of those ridiculous you know I can take holding up a trader had [TS]

00:46:57   things like we're talking about a slightly larger iPhone not even you know [TS]

00:47:01   not but like the context and a half inches maybe not even in the context of [TS]

00:47:08   all those shows that we talked about this to understand that we're not saying [TS]

00:47:11   the apples gonna make a giant phone without that context or Treat might seem [TS]

00:47:14   silly but like we're talking about the happenings to make a bigger one it's not [TS]

00:47:18   going to be massively bigger they need it sooner rather than later I think [TS]

00:47:21   they'll survive without it I but I bet they're disappointed too I bet they're [TS]

00:47:24   disappointed that they can have a larger one is the fact is they are definitely [TS]

00:47:28   losing sales to people who buy Android phones primarily not necessarily only [TS]

00:47:33   but primarily because of the bigger screens yeah I don't know why I feel I [TS]

00:47:38   have me says you're out having says user on part of firstly as someone else for [TS]

00:47:42   us I would kill to have the five form factor [TS]

00:47:46   any day now cuz I'm too cheap to get a new phone every year you don't have [TS]

00:47:49   someone for it it's a it's a lot cheaper than fair enough [TS]

00:47:53   alright so I guess I'll just have to save my pennies but no you know I mean [TS]

00:47:56   I'm really excited to have even if it looks exactly like what you get when you [TS]

00:48:00   have Marco and it's just a little bit quicker I'm very very very excited for [TS]

00:48:04   that now to be fair there there's no chance to buy an Android phone [TS]

00:48:08   this year I also think that you're right that a lot of people do by Android [TS]

00:48:12   phones and I have heard some people with iPhones on various degrees of the Nerds [TS]

00:48:17   scale say [TS]

00:48:19   I might not go iPhone this year because I really want something with a bigger [TS]

00:48:22   screen and so I think you're right about that but I also think that a lot of the [TS]

00:48:25   reason people buy Android phones is because oftentimes they're cheaper is [TS]

00:48:29   specially a prime you know instead of paying 100 200 300 dollars whatever it [TS]

00:48:33   is these days for a brand new iPhone and granted this is where he comes in and so [TS]

00:48:37   on and so forth in theory but a lot of people today will buy Android phones [TS]

00:48:42   because simply because they're cheaper we talked about that show is back as [TS]

00:48:47   well like what if what if the cheaper iPhone is also the bigger one that seems [TS]

00:48:50   like that's not going to be the case in which case I'll be awkward cuz it's like [TS]

00:48:54   what you want to be your phone you get the slower one and like it turns out [TS]

00:48:58   there's not going to be an issue and you know these slightly ever so slightly [TS]

00:49:02   like it's like not much bigger because they like the iPhone 5 was kind of [TS]

00:49:06   awkward the dimensions because they basically just me to talk which is a [TS]

00:49:10   really weird way to think about it ever expand I can you think of any other [TS]

00:49:13   device with a screen with the screen expanded and only one dimension and a [TS]

00:49:16   significant amount is really weird so like it's it's very tall and very skinny [TS]

00:49:21   and just like that a little bit wider maybe just maybe a little bit bigger and [TS]

00:49:25   again not not gonna be only phone they offer people who want smaller ones will [TS]

00:49:28   have smaller ones I think they will you know but like slightly bigger would [TS]

00:49:33   really help I agree in you know a couple things are not considering both with the [TS]

00:49:37   cold iPhone and the size is that we're taking an extremely American centric [TS]

00:49:41   myopic view of the world and I wonder if I heard a lot of reports that the gold [TS]

00:49:47   or champagne color is very popular in China I have no earthly idea if that's [TS]

00:49:51   true or not please email anyone but me I've heard a lot of that someone the [TS]

00:49:57   chatroom said a second ago that you know a lot of people in Asia will buy [TS]

00:49:59   specifically around screen size I don't know if that's factual or not but look [TS]

00:50:04   at Samsung sales numbers like this no phones and cell phones really big [TS]

00:50:09   screens and people are not like grudgingly taking the big screens they [TS]

00:50:13   like them they want them and you can complain with it like they should like [TS]

00:50:15   them or not or whether it's too big and phone shouldn't be that big and [TS]

00:50:18   applications are principled stand people want it like an Apple AAPL I don't think [TS]

00:50:23   it's going to make something comically large just gonna go a little bit bigger [TS]

00:50:26   because people want a little bit bigger [TS]

00:50:30   especially you know you figure the middle [TS]

00:50:32   the bigger they would have room for a lot more battery volume and share the [TS]

00:50:36   screen to take up more power because it would be a larger area however I don't [TS]

00:50:39   refresh I bet it would not take up I bet it wouldn't totally cancel out the [TS]

00:50:44   battery increase so I bet if they made a larger phone it would have overall [TS]

00:50:48   better battery life than the current five size models did you see that one [TS]

00:50:52   guy who's tweeting about the internal changes to the iPhone came to the bus [TS]

00:50:56   and stuff oh yes and apparently the PCI Express bus might come next year to it [TS]

00:51:00   would be awesome yeah I've said it was self refresh coming which is like a [TS]

00:51:04   feature not they're gonna be until they smell like that as well just basically [TS]

00:51:08   so that the video hardware doesn't currently have to tell the screen keeps [TS]

00:51:11   one that keeps playing that same thing [TS]

00:51:14   displaying that the screen can sit there and not keep getting signals from the [TS]

00:51:20   graphics hardware if the picture is changing which is a big power savings [TS]

00:51:23   that's come over to the new MacBook Airs but it's part of Intel's push with their [TS]

00:51:27   has whatsapp sets for PC hardware and it makes perfect sense to do in the phone [TS]

00:51:31   you know any way you can get power saving so maybe that's part of that but [TS]

00:51:35   yeah the changing of all the internal buses I think this is probably where the [TS]

00:51:38   Lightning connector design will pay off because I'm assuming Apple built it so [TS]

00:51:42   that when they do change all the internal buses they brought have to have [TS]

00:51:45   a new connector new like you know like it's it's disengaged isolated from the [TS]

00:51:49   internals to the degree that they should be ok with lightning connector I'm [TS]

00:51:53   hoping that maybe that was the plan all along and now we're seeing their plan [TS]

00:51:56   comes together because the Lightning connector it has enough pins that if you [TS]

00:52:01   if you fudge the spec a little bit on grounding I believe you can have a full [TS]

00:52:05   USB 3 speed out of it at least I believe you can just make a usb3 lightning cable [TS]

00:52:11   and and it pretty much good work and and so obviously like they made this thing [TS]

00:52:17   they didn't just make the same to last two years you know if it'll last a while [TS]

00:52:22   that's why doctor has a crazy chip in its running the little tiny embedded in [TS]

00:52:27   the reason they did that is because like look we could the old way was like we [TS]

00:52:32   just hooked up the connected directly to some hardware that output video signal [TS]

00:52:35   that ties us 20 we have to continue doubt but that was really need to just [TS]

00:52:38   totally isolate you know this bus from the rest of the thing and yet maybe [TS]

00:52:43   that'll make it sorry doctors had to [TS]

00:52:44   weird stuff but now we're not tied to the internal implementation so that's a [TS]

00:52:47   price they're paying in the this is supposedly going to be the payoff of [TS]

00:52:50   like we don't have to change the character we don't have to bend over [TS]

00:52:53   backwards to keep adding things to be sending out signals on all those pins [TS]

00:52:57   because that's what the old one did you know we've we've pushed their [TS]

00:53:00   responsibilities upwards into the phone in the software and downwards into the [TS]

00:53:03   adapter and then it's a nice character designs through speaking of sending [TS]

00:53:08   things out of your phone and into it [TS]

00:53:10   our second sponsor today very good maybe depends on how you define anyway [TS]

00:55:30   scanner home button thing I think it's time for John to get angry [TS]

00:55:36   that's a good idea that's way more interesting right to get angry about [TS]

00:55:39   your recommendation and better player when I just basing the chatroom are [TS]

00:55:42   uncomfortable episode about it we did not like it as much really I loved it [TS]

00:55:47   finally we can argue that we can argue about that no time but speaking of you [TS]

00:55:53   being angry about things how do you like the new TiVo I actually had an [TS]

00:55:57   opportunity to review the new TV I could have had it in a little pause and play [TS]

00:56:04   with it but I don't have time to do that for obvious reasons so I have not even [TS]

00:56:08   seen this thing in person used it done anything with it at all casino but I [TS]

00:56:15   messaging for it I was glad to see that one of the items one of like the three [TS]

00:56:21   items they were marketing was that it's faster which is like whether or not it's [TS]

00:56:26   really faster and at this point I have [TS]

00:56:28   hard time actually believing that actually going to be faster in the ways [TS]

00:56:32   I want to be or if it is faster to be like slightly less embarrassingly slow [TS]

00:56:36   at least at least they have figured out that this is a problem that we have to [TS]

00:56:42   address and that we can't just not saying about it [TS]

00:56:44   were going to say here is the new TiVo it's got tax it's got wifi and the [TS]

00:56:49   interfaces faster so I applaud them for that we have this thing they do like [TS]

00:56:53   surveys of their you know their customers that figure what they call [TS]

00:56:56   this a really good customer service survey right to ask you questions and [TS]

00:57:02   you answer like demographic stuff advertising stuff but also you get a [TS]

00:57:06   chance to say like what features would you like to see in the next TiVo and you [TS]

00:57:10   have any general comments and i actually answer these surveys every month like [TS]

00:57:13   you know I do a little customer filling out the little boxes from the movies in [TS]

00:57:17   theaters cuz I have kids and when I get to the end part Irish say please make a [TS]

00:57:21   user to post master please like every every guy should just save it as a text [TS]

00:57:25   expander slipped something like the love of God made your user interface and so [TS]

00:57:30   they you know whether or not they have done it they have acknowledged that this [TS]

00:57:33   is a problem please this thing here I was saying to get TiVo to sponsor the [TS]

00:57:39   show and I think a lot of people think like that I hate people and you know [TS]

00:57:42   because I will these rants about it on the record about everything but I feel [TS]

00:57:47   like someone who's like a real hypocritical and her actually listen to [TS]

00:57:50   that side knows that is certainly not the case because despite all my youngest [TS]

00:57:53   claiming that TiVo when I always say again and again and I'll say hearing on [TS]

00:57:57   the show is it is the best DVR you can buy I have them all over my house I [TS]

00:58:01   could not live without them if someone took away my Tivo be very upset is it as [TS]

00:58:05   good as it could be you know and that's why I'm about it but it's it's kind of [TS]

00:58:08   like Apple like you know first DVR with criticizing I'm going to TV user for [TS]

00:58:12   ages so i think im sponsoring the show would not be crazy and this new TiVo [TS]

00:58:17   looks to be the best TiVo they've made in a long time isn't as responsive as a [TS]

00:58:22   TiVo Series 2 I don't know I haven't tried it I can't say whether but the [TS]

00:58:26   very least there they understand the responsiveness Ruru eyes issue we should [TS]

00:58:31   dress that I am disheartened to see all the other features that their [TS]

00:58:35   advertising because you know you can stream to iOS and it's got this thing [TS]

00:58:39   built in and get sixteen years instead of four [TS]

00:58:41   high-end models like us don't work stuff just can't agree group you need to have [TS]

00:58:47   a snow leopard released internal only get rid of the standard definition menus [TS]

00:58:51   everywhere [TS]

00:58:52   the thing blazing fast the next really sad like oh we have new because like I [TS]

00:58:57   was little you know we can do Amazon Netflix we can do that we can do this [TS]

00:59:00   weekend to search across all like I know there's not going to be as good as I [TS]

00:59:05   wanted to be and I like it just point out he nor the Netflix teacher on my [TS]

00:59:08   Tivo because in the competition among all the boxes connected to my TV looks [TS]

00:59:12   like in last place maybe maybe the head to blu-ray player piano Apple TV is my [TS]

00:59:19   number one silent no fan responsive interface actually works in that it [TS]

00:59:23   looks like so I understand the TiVo has to advertise all those fancy features [TS]

00:59:26   but that's not what I want even if I was telling someone about it why they should [TS]

00:59:30   buy to vote would say to record programs and watch them later like a backhanded [TS]

00:59:35   does that amazingly well and it's reliable and it doesn't crash and you [TS]

00:59:41   just want to record the programs and county watching later and in that job [TS]

00:59:44   that indispensable job that household cannot function without TV doesn't [TS]

00:59:49   everything else about it I am NOT interested in as those key feature so I [TS]

00:59:55   refer to try it out I did think about like maybe I'll get rid of my existing [TS]

00:59:59   keep it was like kind of like a gift to myself this christmas is something it [TS]

01:00:02   would not be economically wise because I just bought this TV show like two years [TS]

01:00:05   ago is not even I warranty yet cuz I bought like the extended three year [TS]

01:00:08   warranty I bought lifetime service for it [TS]

01:00:11   people but yeah like this it's like all theall the past he was I've had lifetime [TS]

01:00:17   service has been a good deal like i've i've had them and used them far past the [TS]

01:00:22   point where lifetime several I would have been paying way more about had paid [TS]

01:00:24   monthly or yearly that lifetime service but if I was to get rid of my current [TS]

01:00:28   email now which was the previous top end table it would not be wise to have paid [TS]

01:00:34   for lifetime service two years ago in the digit and you can't transfer and [TS]

01:00:37   left answers and he was expensive like no two ways about it and [TS]

01:00:41   I don't complain too much about the expenses I know he said make a $1,500 [TS]

01:00:45   box just make it fast I'll buy it right and this is like $600 plus $400 a [TS]

01:00:51   lifetime service like it's expensive I don't know how much it probably under [TS]

01:00:55   $1000 be willing to pay a huge amount of money for this because it's not [TS]

01:00:58   important like you know my life in the functioning of my house but i cant [TS]

01:01:03   really like you just bought it and I'd rather I think I'd rather spend the [TS]

01:01:07   money on PlayStation 4 so that's probably how that's gonna go I'm very [TS]

01:01:12   disappointed that your not absolutely infuriated that some of the screens the [TS]

01:01:16   user fees screens are apparently still standard that all you know how long I've [TS]

01:01:19   been living with that inside liked what I heard from various people is that the [TS]

01:01:23   actual like you know the actual application is running TiVo to record [TS]

01:01:28   all the shows and everything is standard death and all the high definition menus [TS]

01:01:32   are just like one of those extra applications that you launch from the [TS]

01:01:35   real application that's running TiVo so the high-definition menus are you know [TS]

01:01:39   that's one more layer up right so soon as you exit out of the menus that you [TS]

01:01:44   see the real interface underneath it and it really takes it out of that they just [TS]

01:01:47   do nothing when be regarding stuff anymore that is in terms of their staff [TS]

01:01:50   but like thats why did the high death you know the standard menu that's the [TS]

01:01:54   actual underlying machine and I can kind of understand you know why they didn't [TS]

01:02:00   go away immediately BC don't want to screw with the reliability but now it's [TS]

01:02:03   been like how many years has been high def is just embarrassing like maybe they [TS]

01:02:06   don't maybe the Sun deep technical reason why they can't get rid of it [TS]

01:02:09   would never like if I had to choose crashing screws up my recordings but as [TS]

01:02:14   a hi-def menus versus the current situation I would use the car when I [TS]

01:02:17   just think it's embarrassing for them technically they haven't been able to [TS]

01:02:19   get rid of these but if forced to choose I would say look if something if you [TS]

01:02:23   feel like you don't have the technical chops to ditch the the the underlying [TS]

01:02:27   thing that's recording all the stuff and has the standard used as your friend of [TS]

01:02:30   instability I'm going to believe that you your assessment of your competencies [TS]

01:02:34   his accurate and I prefer to have a kiss my Tivo you know there was time so [TS]

01:02:39   they've been deliberate crash in in like you know many years ago this thing has [TS]

01:02:43   not spontaneously rebooted has not crash has been like a champ against you know [TS]

01:02:47   MPEG artifacts and stuff in [TS]

01:02:49   things I record a record four shows all the time it's really quiet it just it [TS]

01:02:53   just works and does what it's supposed to do and even though I i you know I [TS]

01:02:57   grit my teeth and think having seen it is that I can't scroll through the menu [TS]

01:03:01   was like wait reaction reaction of moved down wherever you know it's like that [TS]

01:03:07   infuriates me but instead of like you know me as well as hierarchy of needs [TS]

01:03:11   like our shows recorded yes can i watch them yes [TS]

01:03:15   cannot be given to quickly no but you know I've got like food shelter safety [TS]

01:03:21   that's about the level I i wud if anyone wants a DVR I have a good read reviews [TS]

01:03:28   of the satellite coverage preview thing people are just getting them now I was [TS]

01:03:32   able to use it as a good deal do you get when I'm I'm very happy with the TV as I [TS]

01:03:37   have and I guess that if you took them away from me I would be pissed because [TS]

01:03:40   what's my alternative I cable company DVR'd No thank you I have used many of [TS]

01:03:44   those over relatives houses and they are so much worse right so with that in mind [TS]

01:03:49   I am genuinely not trolling you the only DVR I've ever had is the Verizon FiOS [TS]

01:03:54   DVR that we got months ago and we didn't have a DVR until like six months ago as [TS]

01:03:59   I was too cheap to pay for the monthly fee what makes a TiVo again I'm really [TS]

01:04:04   honestly asking what makes a TiVo so much better than that [TS]

01:04:06   so the first thing is capacity like cable company DVRs can hold like nothing [TS]

01:04:11   even if you get too fancy shmancy is one that that they may current top of ninety [TS]

01:04:15   felt like 10 times as much like the ones that like 450 hours of each day do you [TS]

01:04:19   know how many hours but she holds I want to say to measured in tens or even [TS]

01:04:24   hundreds if not even close and that might sound crazy so I'm not going to [TS]

01:04:28   record that much but once you have a bunch of kids and a bunch of season [TS]

01:04:31   passes and like you know I have queued up at the you know a maximum of five [TS]

01:04:35   episodes of seventeen different shows for all the different kids and all [TS]

01:04:37   around things that whole series that I like you up like that's that's what I'm [TS]

01:04:41   paying all this money for this box it do under the dome I watched like the first [TS]

01:04:44   couple episodes announcing now say therefore that I'm letting the whole [TS]

01:04:48   series cue up I'll get to it later I and you can't do that unless you have a [TS]

01:04:51   three terabyte drive in there and you know or if you have you ever seen it all [TS]

01:04:54   service I but even then [TS]

01:04:55   the capacity is not that great so that's the biggest thing like I got our [TS]

01:04:59   household but not function my wife has no idea I was going like the one that [TS]

01:05:03   holds the most you could possibly hold and she still like I was 80% full I [TS]

01:05:07   gotta delete stuff like she has that paranoia about you know the thing [TS]

01:05:10   filling up or whatever like don't worry the little delete off the ones that were [TS]

01:05:13   not marked to save it'll be fine but like capacity so that number one number [TS]

01:05:18   two most now the DVR so you get from the cable companies can record four shows at [TS]

01:05:24   once are now six shows at once and never return you to record six years it once I [TS]

01:05:28   don't think I ever need a record four shows at once but you look at the thing [TS]

01:05:31   and she's very frequently all our lights lit up and those are not all suggestions [TS]

01:05:35   like it can also record shows that the things you want I don't really see what [TS]

01:05:39   is recording like you know what those are for legitimate shows that are going [TS]

01:05:43   on at the same time granted maybe the two that are recording for the kids we [TS]

01:05:46   could defer until later repealed but I like being able to record all those [TS]

01:05:49   things it wants now too quickly erupted at actually does make sense because [TS]

01:05:52   there was only been once or twice but there there are a couple times where we [TS]

01:05:56   were recording two different shows and then I wanted to watch live TV for [TS]

01:06:00   whatever reason and not watch those shows at the moment and our DVR was like [TS]

01:06:04   I've got two tuners you gotta pick either one of those two shows or leave [TS]

01:06:09   me alone so that that actually does make sense and the final thing I was 32nd [TS]

01:06:13   skip which is like every time I use someone else's DVR R U verse they never [TS]

01:06:18   ever and commercials come on and I have to fast forward through them I just it's [TS]

01:06:23   terrible like someone does I don't know how many seconds it is but it does a [TS]

01:06:27   bulk skip met some of them have some kind of saving feature but most of them [TS]

01:06:32   have like the fast or its can feature and then like they had varying amounts [TS]

01:06:36   of over on where you wait to you see the first seen the show and tell it to stop [TS]

01:06:39   at all actually put like 10 seconds back to the old and have better emergency and [TS]

01:06:44   TV does the same thing but i think is tuned for people with better reflexes [TS]

01:06:48   but 32nd skip anything 32nd 32nd back like being how to be single button [TS]

01:06:54   presses that's one thing that pissed me off about the the fancy TiVo have now is [TS]

01:06:57   the 32nd scapegoats lower like if you press a 30 second snippet really fast it [TS]

01:07:01   will not sure who will stop showing you a different frame of video and you have [TS]

01:07:04   no idea how are you going [TS]

01:07:05   like that's why that's performance issues but even with the performance [TS]

01:07:10   issue even with me throughout and manual throwing myself I would much rather 34 [TS]

01:07:14   it back 7 back whatever it is then too fast or its can and any other day I [TS]

01:07:19   would say those are the cornerstones of why white Evo is essential to my life [TS]

01:07:23   and why their DVRs infuriate me and there's many many other features you be [TS]

01:07:27   interested in transferring things and they're actually a very amazing to have [TS]

01:07:31   a nice iOS app the iOS interface on the iPad or even the iPhone is faster more [TS]

01:07:36   responsive everything it's like how do you make a nice I was a grandiose crash [TS]

01:07:41   early on and has some really want but like when you're using it to move stuff [TS]

01:07:43   like only the TV interface was like this you know it looks just like the TV [TS]

01:07:48   interests why can't you do this over there at the cost 200 bucks gearbox cost [TS]

01:07:52   600 just put the iPod Touch inside the box I don't understand what's going on [TS]

01:07:58   over there with our remember this only does it bring all sorts of other [TS]

01:08:02   features that that other people have been interesting for me those are the [TS]

01:08:05   big ones it's a Mac Pro of DVR space like what you need a macro I can just [TS]

01:08:09   get an iMac rob you could I want the Mac Pro and so I have a macro view Sobeys [TS]

01:08:16   out reasonably optimistic about this it's a weird one of the reasons given by [TS]

01:08:24   Mr fans another fan is pretty darn good and pretty quiet but the front of the [TS]

01:08:31   front panel metal boxes found the powers out there than the old one in my opinion [TS]

01:08:35   but oh well [TS]

01:08:39   anything else we want to talk about it wanted to stand slightly well I [TS]

01:08:44   discovered that are we will hit the fifty mag limit with our audio settings [TS]

01:08:49   roughly at like an hour forty really I think our 43 is like the exact like the [TS]

01:08:55   limit of how long we can go even if you don't wanna know if you had that thing [TS]

01:08:59   we found are you doing stereo before and yeah I've been doing my now for four [TS]

01:09:02   weeks yeah so as long as you want to keep 64 quemando [TS]

01:09:09   to blow an hour 43 minutes let's wrap it up we have so much to talk about [TS]

01:09:16   trying to keep it shows are on our I kinda like that and we are going well [TS]

01:09:20   it's like we're on that hypocritical show or something happens like this lol [TS]

01:09:24   we're right back into that thanks to sponsors this week [TS]

01:09:31   Squarespace and audible and we will see you next week now to show they didn't [TS]

01:09:41   even mean to begin accidental accidental John [TS]

01:09:50   Casey [TS]

01:09:53   because it was a joke and it s [TS]

01:10:11   thats Casey list and Marco [TS]

01:10:36   you can hear the opening quarter the song can you think of people don't know [TS]

01:10:46   is like they talk about the kids are being scheduled for us to find myself [TS]

01:10:50   thinking about what you think about the songs to your own damn podcast but it [TS]

01:10:54   happens that the whole reason we picked that song was because we couldn't get [TS]

01:10:58   get out of our own heads and because you don't have good taste appreciate [TS]

01:11:01   bulletin boards [TS]

01:11:09   I mean there's a whole lot going on but I guess john has a review going [TS]

01:11:16   yeah I mean like that at this point I have another section then I had to write [TS]

01:11:22   but then after that I'm waiting on out by waiting for another building waiting [TS]

01:11:27   to see what new things weren't with screenshots get changed I'm doing a book [TS]

01:11:30   production and all that crap [TS]

01:11:35   bookstore this year we'll see how that goes [TS]

01:11:38   interesting actually I'm curious how has your ebook workflow change since last [TS]

01:11:43   year because you mentioned you describe it in a pretty good chunk of [TS]

01:11:45   hypocritical back for the last review and I know obviously the whole world of [TS]

01:11:50   the book tools is awful [TS]

01:11:52   some wondering if anything is different this year like the you know the [TS]

01:11:55   programmers the programmers pile of crap because a bunch of terrible scripts and [TS]

01:12:01   all I did was copy those bunch of terrible scripts and modify the terrible [TS]

01:12:04   news inside them like at a certain point maybe I shouldn't make these not crappy [TS]

01:12:10   but it's just I'm just too efficient and a lot of scripts to work with the new [TS]

01:12:15   thing and things like leaving old stuff in there are comments are you now maybe [TS]

01:12:20   later like so humiliating residue that description terrible but these are all [TS]

01:12:25   just hand assembles me BBEdit in peril and that's all you need to be a book and [TS]

01:12:33   the thing is I fought it all last year like to make these scripts and now I [TS]

01:12:36   know I don't bother you the tools like just you know it's just a bunch of files [TS]

01:12:40   and it contained therein a format [TS]

01:12:42   taxed at up through some executables like whatever that's what it comes down [TS]

01:12:49   to analyze things it's like it's like Android like you know fragmentation [TS]

01:12:52   didn't process you know till the book loaded on this device see what scrappy [TS]

01:12:57   build a lot of changes that are now looks good on the Kindle Touch around [TS]

01:13:03   look at an iBook so now looks bad they're like the worst one is Kendall [TS]

01:13:06   Kendall Jackson two formats into a single file the mobile format in the [TS]

01:13:11   cafe bombing campaign has recently featured in mobiles power crap but you [TS]

01:13:15   can't give different you know different content to two formats you have to find [TS]

01:13:21   some crappy with CSS [TS]

01:13:23   do you know like these terrible acts like ok well apply to this stylesheet [TS]

01:13:26   you can apply style sheets on each device you just can't miss Tasha Starzz [TS]

01:13:31   applies to Moby and that is sufficient to do anything you want is fine display [TS]

01:13:36   none on cafe and then you know you just you can just hide things but like come [TS]

01:13:40   on guys like I'm generating these files I could generate two totally different [TS]

01:13:43   files this won't be optimized for mobile this won't be out to us instead I can [TS]

01:13:47   make one set of markup and do stupid as CSS hacks to make it look good and both [TS]

01:13:51   of them and then by the way make it sure looks good on you know on the iPhone [TS]

01:13:55   screen on the big iPhone on the small icon now I gotta check out books on the [TS]

01:13:58   Mac as well and i know that every candles and singles on the Kindle Fire [TS]

01:14:02   and Kindle previewer to show things but they cannot preview of crashes when you [TS]

01:14:05   use a particular I see how to use the real device and how do you get the same [TS]

01:14:09   book on to all your 7 devices and then see where it looks right so that's that [TS]

01:14:13   process sucks and continues to suck so market you ship all of your old devices [TS]

01:14:18   up to the Boston area in order for John got plenty I i dont have Marcos [TS]

01:14:23   collection of candles but I've got sufficient candles lit last year did [TS]

01:14:26   have to ask Scott McNulty from the income people who also has every man to [TS]

01:14:30   test something I didn't have a Kindle Touch and the simulator was lying to you [TS]

01:14:33   if anything like the previewer they give you to say here it's a terrible [TS]

01:14:38   application and it lies apparently yeah like I previewed it on the Kindle Touch [TS]

01:14:42   any luck finding someone sent me pictures Kindle Touch after her or even [TS]

01:14:45   upload to the Amazon start he bought it got in there was like unreadable like [TS]

01:14:49   well that's not what the previous generally speaking the Kindle previewer [TS]

01:14:51   does not tell you anything you wanna see you shouldn't even be using it it's not [TS]

01:14:58   because it'll it'll tell you that something looks a certain way and their [TS]

01:15:02   actual device is nothing like that like there's that they get differences it's [TS]

01:15:06   it is completely useless because it gives you a false sense of security [TS]

01:15:09   it does it does give me feature support them like the the iOS version you can [TS]

01:15:13   read about the ways terrible like it doesn't it doesn't support like I don't [TS]

01:15:17   even know it doesn't support cafe maybe it doesn't support only the Kindle Fire [TS]

01:15:21   Sports Cafe but I'm amazed that this new campaigns like it two years old year old [TS]

01:15:27   and the iOS reader still acts like a Kindle but like fancy graphics photos [TS]

01:15:32   images to the side [TS]

01:15:33   know that you know that kind of thing like does is the speech was supported in [TS]

01:15:39   iOS the prettier can usually show-bizzy try to float something you will not [TS]

01:15:42   float in the preview and it will not slow down and the iOS app so you know [TS]

01:15:47   something I don't trust it entirely [TS]

01:15:48   the device is here but when I'm making changes changes of change sometimes I [TS]

01:15:52   just wanna go to the preview and three times editorial of the book the great [TS]

01:15:56   thing about the Kindle for Mac works by the way out onto testing which does this [TS]

01:15:59   is you have to like right click the book delete the book go to the Finder find [TS]

01:16:05   the book dragon under the candle things you can do open from the copies in the [TS]

01:16:10   library repeatedly doing that task force is like so annoying you can't just like [TS]

01:16:15   you know you want to say okay I'll change reloaded reloaded hasn't changed [TS]

01:16:20   I have my own copy in my library in that when I went through that process which [TS]

01:16:26   is in the beginning that process is a nice break from writing but eventually [TS]

01:16:29   like you know this sucks at flashbacks are you feeling relatively confident [TS]

01:16:39   about it [TS]

01:16:42   I thought it would kind of be similar length amount of money on and I think [TS]

01:16:47   after just like session it will be maybe a little bit shorter but it feels longer [TS]

01:16:51   to make his I know I feel like maybe feel like I don't think there's more [TS]

01:16:56   screenshots than there were before maybe they're even less but all the more twice [TS]

01:17:00   as big so like the production workflow those big images and that's the thing [TS]

01:17:04   with Kendall they charge you for the download the charger per megabyte as an [TS]

01:17:07   object double the size of my book and it's like it's a $4 book and I'm already [TS]

01:17:11   you know [TS]

01:17:12   Amazon's already you know it's $5 Amazon already getting like four bucks you know [TS]

01:17:17   like I'm going to double the size of its gonna take even more I don't want to [TS]

01:17:21   raise the price of the book so I had to rush down the images with even bigger [TS]

01:17:25   compression in the candle and that's that's the advantage of the iBooks chip [TS]

01:17:29   full res paintings america's Apple as far as I know does not charge anything [TS]

01:17:32   for download some I can you go [TS]

01:17:34   35 MacBook enjoy I mean like that's why it was David Sparks book was a paperless [TS]

01:17:40   the great yeah and it was finally Apple isn't charging different costs like $150 [TS]

01:17:48   and download trees from Amazon has to deal like you can do 70 percent royalty [TS]

01:17:53   or just pretty good like so you get seventy percent of the purchase price of [TS]

01:17:56   the book of course you don't get to pick the purchase price changed price [TS]

01:17:58   matching but I am I seventy percent but there's that per megabyte fee or you get [TS]

01:18:03   30% and no per megabyte fee so they know what they're doing over there but I'll [TS]

01:18:08   be much happier to get the seventy percent and also know if I can get [TS]

01:18:12   through the process of submitting a book that I books and getting it published an [TS]

01:18:16   approved in which is much harder than cannot get Amazon lecture uploaded click [TS]

01:18:20   the button and eventually will put up for sale but then will refuse loaded [TS]

01:18:23   onto an iPad for no reason that was last year's drama this year I don't know [TS]

01:18:29   what's gonna go wrong who knows but you just totally powerless you like you [TS]

01:18:32   can't get in touch with human and days are passing and people like yourselves [TS]

01:18:37   book loaded an iPad and you totally can but their website says you can't and [TS]

01:18:43   their and their website refuses to send it to an iPad like in the center by [TS]

01:18:47   Kendall it won't even list your iPad like sorry this book can be sent to a [TS]

01:18:50   night [TS]

01:18:50   yes you can get totally can I'm looking at it right now and then then they fix [TS]

01:18:56   it and then uploaded a new version of the type of six American be looking at [TS]

01:18:59   that again [TS]

01:19:00   yeah that's all upset about that because of because of the audio obviously this [TS]

01:19:05   is not a good solution for for most books because of the audience of an [TS]

01:19:09   in-depth [TS]

01:19:10   tens of thousands of words Mac OS 10 version version review obviously this is [TS]

01:19:16   a somewhat technical audience could you do the things that I believe a really [TS]

01:19:21   does want to publish it does I probably all do it where you sell the book on [TS]

01:19:26   your own site and/or I on our site or whoever whoever's doing it and and then [TS]

01:19:31   you can use download a movie version for a few if you want but I Kindle I guess [TS]

01:19:35   that we do ours does not like if you if you sign up for a month like ours from [TS]

01:19:39   here which is like five bucks the same price as buying right as you get you get [TS]

01:19:44   the Kindle ebooks compatible epub no DRM you get a PDF version and I believe they [TS]

01:19:51   also put the Kindle version of you get them so like that is that is the best [TS]

01:19:57   deal if you wanna do that but then people are wary like oh I don't want to [TS]

01:20:00   subscribe doesn't have your number to cancel and all this other stuff and it's [TS]

01:20:03   like 15 bucks you can get every single one of these books and every format but [TS]

01:20:07   if you'd rather by people who come from backgrounds on such why put it up on [TS]

01:20:11   Amazon a lot of people ask about iBooks if I can get my book up there on and do [TS]

01:20:15   that as well as if I'm giving I think everyone should read on the web for free [TS]

01:20:18   I think that is by far the best version of this book to read but sometimes you [TS]

01:20:22   just want to give me money sometimes people just really want to read on the [TS]

01:20:24   Kindle like if you can read this review a can-do like the images some people [TS]

01:20:29   want to do that and who am I to say they can't give me money so that's why I [TS]

01:20:33   think how much how much of your time and trouble is it really worth to give an [TS]

01:20:38   amazing experience to these devices where it's already doomed to be a pretty [TS]

01:20:41   crappy amazing I'm just trying to do well but it's you know it's pretty much [TS]

01:20:45   do like it's not going to be good and you know and why not an official dealing [TS]

01:20:50   with like the weird megabyte limitations and Amazon stupid tools and in every [TS]

01:20:55   every to land on makes for publishers [TS]

01:20:57   is ridiculously horrible and suggest dealing with all that stuff is you can [TS]

01:21:02   sign up for KDP Select and then you get you know per megabyte download all the [TS]

01:21:07   great stuff but [TS]

01:21:09   you bought your book must be for sale exclusively oh yeah and I said that I [TS]

01:21:15   mean seriously why it concerns about not wanting to sign up for a subscription [TS]

01:21:21   and haven't remember to cancel it [TS]

01:21:23   those are very very valid why not just you know obviously I'm sure the people [TS]

01:21:30   at ours and they're coming out right I'm sure I'm sure they they want people to [TS]

01:21:35   subscribe and that's part of the reason of having on their site but certainly [TS]

01:21:38   they can also realize the value of just like make a dedicated page for just this [TS]

01:21:44   book put a stripe warm up there and just have some way to pay five bucks and get [TS]

01:21:50   the files for download right there without how do I sign up like they would [TS]

01:21:54   make so much more and they would make so much more from have that much money in [TS]

01:21:58   the grand scheme that many people buy the book so we don't want to get into or [TS]

01:22:02   like end and they do sell more books than just my night I think you're right [TS]

01:22:04   like at this point they sell like maybe there's like 40 bucks a year that they [TS]

01:22:09   sell think you know get significant sales it's maybe probably worth of them [TS]

01:22:14   to do it just put up a page have striped do it or whatever but like I don't think [TS]

01:22:18   that's how like that's something that would have to make on its own Conde Nast [TS]

01:22:22   has no destruction for like a were gonna sell stuff over the books that make you [TS]

01:22:27   go to make four-year yeah they put on Amazon like that's just just put them up [TS]

01:22:31   on Amazon I think they may have done something I books and I remember maybe [TS]

01:22:35   the first I books when I don't know but like if they did it themselves but like [TS]

01:22:40   if you think about the development cost of how many developers how much time it [TS]

01:22:43   would take to do that they would eat up the first and second year sales like we [TS]

01:22:47   sell some ebooks but like the $5 your books and like tons of people read them [TS]

01:22:53   on the web and slice off many men easier to see how many people actually buy them [TS]

01:22:58   like it's not that much money so I kind of understand it's kind of on the [TS]

01:23:03   balancing of like well we could have a developer said futures to the website or [TS]

01:23:06   whatever or we could have been put up a strike page and at this point I think [TS]

01:23:09   sending them out at two times honored I books and sort of delegating that an [TS]

01:23:14   outsourcing it I think it's still reasonably selling you know everything [TS]

01:23:18   articles development ebook former like some percentage of it but it's really [TS]

01:23:21   sad [TS]

01:23:22   for high profile vehicles a year and you know who knows it could happen like they [TS]

01:23:27   do have good to me like that they wrote their own lives you know we can invent [TS]

01:23:32   like was covered live for many things like when you're going to covering into [TS]

01:23:36   yeah because they kept using third-party vendors and kept crapping out so they [TS]

01:23:39   wrote their own but that's like more of a core competency of the silence you go [TS]

01:23:43   to our satellite bloggers like you know twenty of those year and that's big [TS]

01:23:46   traffic time so they wrote their own one of those and you know how the developers [TS]

01:23:50   do it and and awesome don't think there at that point now for books and talk [TS]

01:23:59   about them for speaking of gold every time I see them I that's got to be [TS]

01:24:07   Photoshop no real object is to win when the Dodge Neon first came out in like 90 [TS]

01:24:12   yes it had one like a mustard yellow coloration terrible is the exact same [TS]

01:24:18   gonna do that I B&W has has some bad ecology they have that all of their cars [TS]

01:24:25   have to be available in like two or three great colors three or four [TS]

01:24:30   forgettable colors and like to completely awful I can't believe it's [TS]

01:24:34   even available colors and I don't think a cultural thing I can Germany those [TS]

01:24:38   colors are popular just no one like the taxi taxis were what how did you [TS]

01:24:43   describe Marcos [TS]

01:24:46   like this love very very light beige it's like it's plastic from the late [TS]

01:24:51   eighties that when it was new was white outside scorched it's like when you [TS]

01:24:55   leave when you leave our that hardly call backs out in the Sun they aren't [TS]

01:24:59   exactly yes the white MacBook had that problem I have had that problem we're [TS]

01:25:05   like the entire [TS]

01:25:07   what they called the top case looks like the whole service the keyboard is part [TS]

01:25:10   of that that whole panel would discolor into the dust gross orange you looking [TS]

01:25:15   thing because of heat and people thought it was because of like dirty hands to be [TS]

01:25:20   lots I'm done in like that the hand resting area but even if you put like [TS]

01:25:23   films on top of it which I did immediately when it was brand new [TS]

01:25:27   you would still get that discoloration underneath the film and turned out they [TS]

01:25:31   had this problem that it was just like the plastic was agent poorly with all [TS]

01:25:34   the Heat had to deal with being [TS]

01:25:35   laptop and eventually replace the mall or a body double that same issue among [TS]

01:25:40   many others with the white iPhone that that so much trouble I'm sure that was [TS]

01:25:44   part of it so yeah so the m4 was announced its hideous golden when we see [TS]

01:25:49   gold we don't mean fun looking champagne if you can consider that hideous [TS]

01:25:53   if you miss mustard in mercury yes yes and it's awful I think it's a decent [TS]

01:26:00   looking car under the pain maybe it's so hard to see because I'm too busy [TS]

01:26:04   cleaning up my own comment but but they're saying it's a twin turbo version [TS]

01:26:09   of my motor the in 55 which is about the same power output as the g8 i-ninety [TS]

01:26:15   anything in a little bit maybe was it was not a blog post it was expected to [TS]

01:26:22   be a triple turbo v-6 30 with roughly 400 horsepower can you put a link in the [TS]

01:26:30   chat room to that one of these pictures I'm trying to multitask is not working [TS]

01:26:35   and so the other interesting thing that they announced today and I'm putting [TS]

01:26:40   them in now is that it's losing the manual transmission which makes me that [TS]

01:26:45   Autobot reported that they said their source like but then maybe repose chimed [TS]

01:26:50   in and said we've actually heard the opposite and here's a photo of a person [TS]

01:26:54   saipan on you know that was spotted some weather had a stick and there's like all [TS]

01:26:58   the end like here is like the VIN database that this one says it has a DCT [TS]

01:27:02   in this one doesn't say that's what probably has a stick like there's [TS]

01:27:05   there's all sorts of of pretty good reasons the contrary it's Photoshop you [TS]

01:27:13   know it you know it you know it looks like marker will know what caused it [TS]

01:27:16   looks like actually I i've dealt with [TS]

01:27:20   you're probably talking about like infant pooper something that's in front [TS]

01:27:26   of color totally they're not under solid foods quite like mostly milk is there no [TS]

01:27:31   kind of yellowish on the split pea that is in the diaper [TS]

01:27:36   no I mean I spent all day dealing with a sick dog and I seen some of those colors [TS]

01:27:41   today actually yeah it's also the is also dug well as usual yellowish [TS]

01:27:45   now I have also seen and I think I sent this landmark oh I don't remember if I [TS]

01:27:51   sent this to John but somebody found her put together [TS]

01:27:54   sales numbers take rates for annual rite the e90 m3 and how when it when they [TS]

01:28:05   started offering DCT you saw the take rate of manual transmissions just [TS]

01:28:09   plummet everywhere except the USS which seems totally backwards to me because [TS]

01:28:14   nobody in america drives a stick and everyone drives stupid automatics [TS]

01:28:18   whereas in Europe in my experience everyone drives a stick and nobody [TS]

01:28:21   drives automatics but apparently the m3 it was reversed and so one of the [TS]

01:28:25   arguments they've had marco was martin ever talked about this earlier and I am [TS]

01:28:28   is well maybe the USB get the stick and nobody else will but then it could be [TS]

01:28:33   like the m5 were like yeah the USB stick but it sucks no longer will you know if [TS]

01:28:38   you look at the stake rates it does look like though that you know the m5 the [TS]

01:28:42   take rate for the stick was was getting pretty bad but the m3 take rate for the [TS]

01:28:46   stake in the us- was I think like 50 percent to 33 stick was good and the m5 [TS]

01:28:52   sick every review I've read it is like machine not satisfying to you could [TS]

01:28:55   stick until I go find here you know what it was but it was a bad stick it was [TS]

01:28:59   that like the rest of the car designed around the stick and so was so much [TS]

01:29:05   better with the DCT [TS]

01:29:06   every year I read of it said it's a bad thing we talked about the east sixty [TS]

01:29:13   which was the v10 m5 universally everything I've heard you absolutely [TS]

01:29:17   right [TS]

01:29:17   total piece of crap where the f10 m5 which is Marcos I read one article and [TS]

01:29:23   it was only one and to be fair I think it might have been in the BMW owners [TS]

01:29:27   magazine but they said oh my god this the six-speed f10 m5 is an extremely [TS]

01:29:36   effusive about it the the groupings of magazines from my youth which I keep [TS]

01:29:42   reading like an old motor trend motors kind of race [TS]

01:29:47   none of them like this take I completely agree this is the one to get and that [TS]

01:29:52   like even though even like car drivers like the whole save the manuals campaign [TS]

01:29:57   like we can't recommend that you can anyone get this manual it's not a good [TS]

01:30:02   manuel you should you know maybe not anymore [TS]

01:30:08   yeah it seems like I i I think it would have to I totally believe that person [TS]

01:30:14   who said that the US is gonna get it I do worry though that it will be like the [TS]

01:30:18   m5 his life like Marco said not well matched the car but also like the m5 not [TS]

01:30:22   a satisfying manual by all the reports that I read it which is a shame was like [TS]

01:30:25   it's not it's not a check markets you don't be like oh it's got a manual check [TS]

01:30:29   the box therefore I feel good you want to get the enjoyment of the manual BMW [TS]

01:30:32   manuals are really nice [TS]

01:30:34   my fathers and I'm during his Audi and you know many only during manuals my [TS]

01:30:39   whole life in the BMW man we've got his car thing nice going on that I've ever [TS]

01:30:42   driven and they have something there if they're going to preserve it for the USA [TS]

01:30:47   as a kind of a throwback of his people wanted a good one [TS]

01:30:49   something like like I had when I had the one that was an amazing stick it was [TS]

01:30:54   that was fantastic stick our fantastic stick experience everything now they're [TS]

01:31:00   they're replacing that effectively with the new M 235 I model that is going to [TS]

01:31:06   the us- and that for all intensive purposes looks like this [TS]

01:31:10   the sequel to the apt to the one that's the kind of thing I bet that's that's [TS]

01:31:16   probably the last car in the lineup available the stick [TS]

01:31:21   possible because they always said the 1 a.m. was as close to you could guess you [TS]

01:31:25   could get what the e30 m3 in a regional lightweight relatively high power but [TS]

01:31:30   extremely lightweight high revving m3 and they always in everything I read [TS]

01:31:34   about the one and was it was very very very so now that you know that you know [TS]

01:31:40   it's I think with a car and this is going to sound crazy but with the car [TS]

01:31:47   the size of of the three series and we're being bitten the m3 now with with [TS]

01:31:52   the new M three and four they have focused a lot of weight savings that's [TS]

01:31:56   been like that's one of the reason they went from the view to the V six [TS]

01:31:58   and they they doing more carbon fiber more lumen only they're saying like one [TS]

01:32:03   of the main reasons when the mingles with the m3 and m4 was to be lighter [TS]

01:32:07   weight than their regular non and three series counterparts so maybe maybe this [TS]

01:32:12   won't hold your quite yet but I think enthusiasts who like the feel of driving [TS]

01:32:19   a lot and who and who want that kind of like direct connection between you know [TS]

01:32:25   your body and the road that you can feel so well with a stick and a couple of [TS]

01:32:29   control I think I think they're gonna be pushed smaller and smaller cars and you [TS]

01:32:35   know I don't think it would be that bad if the m2 35 I comes out and ends up [TS]

01:32:40   being awesome and you know maybe five years from now that's the only BMW [TS]

01:32:45   available the stick I don't think that would be that bad because the enthusiast [TS]

01:32:49   who like having a stick [TS]

01:32:51   who like the advantages that gives you tend to also like smaller and lighter [TS]

01:32:55   cars and eventually go to casino generation of kids will grow up not ever [TS]

01:33:02   using this technology ever desire a mistake and they will appreciate all the [TS]

01:33:06   good things about it [TS]

01:33:07   automated manual and there are many and that so eventually will die but yes I do [TS]

01:33:13   you know what he called the adjusting the next year with the rods taken out of [TS]

01:33:17   the dashboard you know we don't care about we don't care about that people [TS]

01:33:20   used to build [TS]
