167: They’ve Opened the Door to Streakers

00:00:00   John Carlucci are you broke now dude you [TS]

00:00:01   gotta take it will talk about the show [TS]

00:00:03   time [TS]

00:00:04   that's the show so how's things going [TS]

00:00:08   John how was your vacation in california [TS]

00:00:12   it was very Californian he didn't he [TS]

00:00:17   didn't really live in reality everywhere [TS]

00:00:19   you went you just dropped hundred-dollar [TS]

00:00:21   bills like they were like they were [TS]

00:00:23   singles sometimes it felt like glad [TS]

00:00:25   you're expensive things there but [TS]

00:00:27   overall everything worked out if they [TS]

00:00:29   took every form of transportation except [TS]

00:00:32   for a taxi [TS]

00:00:33   I don't even know they still have those [TS]

00:00:33   in san francisco i think i've been [TS]

00:00:35   outlawed yeah so the vacations good you [TS]

00:00:38   seem to hang out with the most of the [TS]

00:00:40   Friends of the internet that i can think [TS]

00:00:41   of that are in that neck of the woods [TS]

00:00:43   yeah we did all the touristy things that [TS]

00:00:45   you can do in san francisco you know [TS]

00:00:47   that bus tours did you like Alcatraz [TS]

00:00:49   Korea and alcatraz road on a cable car [TS]

00:00:52   went to the really windy Street you know [TS]

00:00:55   did all the tourist things you can do ya [TS]

00:00:57   love the tourist things in San Francisco [TS]

00:00:59   are right on are really bad road take [TS]

00:01:03   mass transit and go to jail into the [TS]

00:01:07   woods to know and we went to beaches up [TS]

00:01:10   and down the coast on the beach in santa [TS]

00:01:12   cruz and some other beach that i don't i [TS]

00:01:13   don't know where it is but it's got [TS]

00:01:14   little tidal pools that the Pacific [TS]

00:01:15   Ocean stuff when a hike in marin county [TS]

00:01:18   you know just lots of lots of things we [TS]

00:01:21   fought in the short number of days were [TS]

00:01:23   there so as we record it is friday night [TS]

00:01:26   the 22nd we should probably talk about [TS]

00:01:30   the elephant in the room [TS]

00:01:31   wdc ticket announcements are starting to [TS]

00:01:34   trickle out as we record this how to go [TS]

00:01:36   for John and the lead-up to this I had [TS]

00:01:39   some issues that i had to deal with [TS]

00:01:41   mostly of my own creation but when you [TS]

00:01:44   sign up for the lottery [TS]

00:01:45   it has the this year I had the same [TS]

00:01:47   message they had think it was the same [TS]

00:01:48   as that in previous years but I write [TS]

00:01:51   the same realities in previous years [TS]

00:01:52   which is if you enter the lottery and [TS]

00:01:55   you win the lottery they attempt to [TS]

00:01:57   charge your credit card at the moment [TS]

00:01:59   they have decided you won the lottery [TS]

00:02:01   and if that charge doesn't go through [TS]

00:02:03   for some reason they say [TS]

00:02:05   actually you have not won lottery we're [TS]

00:02:07   moving on to the next person which is [TS]

00:02:09   very bad [TS]

00:02:10   it happened a lot of people in the past [TS]

00:02:12   and apples I'm pretty good about trying [TS]

00:02:15   to go back and give them tickets later [TS]

00:02:16   but it's a really terrible system in [TS]

00:02:18   that if they pick your name out of the [TS]

00:02:20   Hat is a winner of lottery they should [TS]

00:02:22   give you a day or two to sort out the [TS]

00:02:24   payment situation now why might your [TS]

00:02:26   credit card rejected because your credit [TS]

00:02:28   card company is fraud happy and it sees [TS]

00:02:30   this big $69 charge randomly on a card [TS]

00:02:33   night I don't know how that fraud [TS]

00:02:35   detection works but if you trip your [TS]

00:02:36   credit card companies fraud detection [TS]

00:02:37   apple will give your ticket to somebody [TS]

00:02:40   else they won't say well you got [TS]

00:02:42   rejected but will give you 24 to 48 [TS]

00:02:44   hours to start out with your credit card [TS]

00:02:45   company right now they just move on [TS]

00:02:46   immediately and so this year same [TS]

00:02:48   message they said just want you to know [TS]

00:02:50   that if we fail to charge your credit [TS]

00:02:51   card [TS]

00:02:51   we're taking your takeaway giving to [TS]

00:02:53   someone else which is terrible just [TS]

00:02:54   terrible system so it should be the n 24 [TS]

00:02:56   to 48 hours let the people sort out [TS]

00:02:58   whether they get it so I was afraid this [TS]

00:03:00   would happen when i signed up I saw that [TS]

00:03:03   the credit card had in there is my [TS]

00:03:04   traditional this is what i used to buy [TS]

00:03:06   my max with credit card which also [TS]

00:03:08   happens to be the traditional Apple [TS]

00:03:10   cannot charge my credit card because the [TS]

00:03:12   payment company rejected because it [TS]

00:03:13   thinks it's fraud i bought so many [TS]

00:03:14   thousands of dollars for the maximum is [TS]

00:03:16   one credit card same number it's never [TS]

00:03:18   been stalled on the internet it's a [TS]

00:03:19   miracle right and year after year every [TS]

00:03:21   time I try to buy Apple equipment with [TS]

00:03:23   it they market is fraud one of the [TS]

00:03:25   things i suggested hey apple says this [TS]

00:03:27   message you should call your credit card [TS]

00:03:28   company and tell them to expect a 1600 [TS]

00:03:31   charge sometime in the next you know [TS]

00:03:34   between the 22nd in the 25th from going [TS]

00:03:37   to tell you the name is just from apple [TS]

00:03:39   computer so that's what some people have [TS]

00:03:42   done and again people have done it and [TS]

00:03:44   call the credit card company and tell [TS]

00:03:45   them please don't reject my card there's [TS]

00:03:47   going to be a charge in the credit card [TS]

00:03:48   you will say yes thumbs up don't worry [TS]

00:03:50   it'll go through and that gets rejected [TS]

00:03:51   because the credit card companies well [TS]

00:03:54   and I think also like the whole thing [TS]

00:03:56   about like all your credit company to [TS]

00:03:57   like pre-approve a big transaction I [TS]

00:03:59   think that's kind of like the door close [TS]

00:04:02   button on most elevators their system is [TS]

00:04:05   all like so advanced for fraud detection [TS]

00:04:07   these days like I'm pretty sure like [TS]

00:04:09   when you when you call most greater [TS]

00:04:10   companies and tell them like oh hey [TS]

00:04:12   whitelist this thing in the future that [TS]

00:04:14   hasn't even happened yet [TS]

00:04:15   I don't think they even can doing [TS]

00:04:17   because the system is based mostly on [TS]

00:04:19   like you have a pre-approval orally or [TS]

00:04:21   the other can attempt for the charge [TS]

00:04:23   and then do you have like do we actually [TS]

00:04:25   like a commit for the charge [TS]

00:04:27   yeah and if they don't have even the [TS]

00:04:28   attempt for the charge I don't think the [TS]

00:04:30   people on the phone can even do anything [TS]

00:04:31   about it [TS]

00:04:32   yeah it's funny you bring that up [TS]

00:04:34   because last year I saw that same [TS]

00:04:36   message and the fear was put in me and I [TS]

00:04:39   called my credit card company and I got [TS]

00:04:42   on the phone with M&S ok you know I'd [TS]

00:04:43   really like to try to get this charge [TS]

00:04:45   pre-approved so really it's really [TS]

00:04:47   important to me and they basically in so [TS]

00:04:49   many words said yeah that's not a thing [TS]

00:04:51   we can't do that goodbye clunk oh so [TS]

00:04:54   this year I did the same thing and I [TS]

00:04:57   call the credit card company and i took [TS]

00:04:59   a different approach this time and I [TS]

00:05:01   said hey there's a really important [TS]

00:05:03   charge that may or may not be going [TS]

00:05:04   through and I'd really like to make sure [TS]

00:05:06   that it doesn't get held up i can you [TS]

00:05:09   like pre-approve it or annotate my [TS]

00:05:12   account in some way such that there's a [TS]

00:05:15   note that this is acceptable and so I [TS]

00:05:18   eventually got pushed to the fraud [TS]

00:05:19   department which makes sense because [TS]

00:05:20   they're the ones who keep track of this [TS]

00:05:22   thing and I got on the phone with the [TS]

00:05:23   the woman and she had said you know okay [TS]

00:05:26   well what were you trying to accomplish [TS]

00:05:27   what I'd like to prove this thing will [TS]

00:05:28   you have to understand like there's a [TS]

00:05:30   lottery and if i win the lottery when we [TS]

00:05:32   are talking like some sort of one thing [TS]

00:05:34   no no it's not getting its alright [TS]

00:05:37   here's the thing so there's this like [TS]

00:05:39   the conference it's a nerd conference [TS]

00:05:41   but it's really important to me and this [TS]

00:05:42   and that and eventually she was like [TS]

00:05:44   okay too much information already [TS]

00:05:45   yeah you've already lost yeah so she's [TS]

00:05:48   okay whatever so I've made a note and [TS]

00:05:50   then I'm thinking to myself okay well um [TS]

00:05:54   I don't know if it's relevant or not but [TS]

00:05:55   the charge would be from Apple she [TS]

00:05:57   didn't even care who the charges from so [TS]

00:05:59   I think you're right that she was like [TS]

00:06:00   yeah okay whatever that's great going [TS]

00:06:01   and then I by coincidence happen to see [TS]

00:06:04   a friend of the show underscore David [TS]

00:06:05   Smith for lunch today and he and I were [TS]

00:06:07   talking about it and he immediately came [TS]

00:06:09   to the same conclusion that you guys did [TS]

00:06:11   which is the 1i eventually came to which [TS]

00:06:12   was [TS]

00:06:13   oh yeah this is not a thing it's all [TS]

00:06:15   automated there's nothing you can do [TS]

00:06:16   about it anyway [TS]

00:06:17   good freakin lock these charges look so [TS]

00:06:19   suspicious also because like it's 1600 [TS]

00:06:23   dollars which is as much as a laptop [TS]

00:06:25   costs from a company that if you stole a [TS]

00:06:27   credit card and you want to go get a [TS]

00:06:29   quick with something you could quickly [TS]

00:06:30   flip and sell you probably go buy a [TS]

00:06:33   fancy technology product like a fancy [TS]

00:06:35   laptop from apple and so like I [TS]

00:06:37   it lots of fraudulent charges are for [TS]

00:06:39   Apple it's also a card not present [TS]

00:06:41   transaction because it's done online so [TS]

00:06:44   again if you steal credit card online [TS]

00:06:45   you probably gonna go try to place order [TS]

00:06:48   from the Apple web store which is [TS]

00:06:49   exactly where these charges come from [TS]

00:06:51   and so it's like I get and and you're [TS]

00:06:54   calling up and saying like this charge [TS]

00:06:56   might happen I can't even tell you that [TS]

00:06:58   I'm definitely trying it i haven't tried [TS]

00:07:00   it yet this church might happen in a few [TS]

00:07:03   days so there's you're basically asking [TS]

00:07:06   their fraud detection systems to [TS]

00:07:08   completely go against all of the all of [TS]

00:07:10   their hero sticks and instinct but [TS]

00:07:12   basically so the note the person made in [TS]

00:07:15   your account that's for other human [TS]

00:07:17   beings to read the thing that's going to [TS]

00:07:18   reject your WWDC charge is not a human [TS]

00:07:21   and will never look at that note and [TS]

00:07:22   therefore that notice meaningless [TS]

00:07:24   oh I completely agree and that's exactly [TS]

00:07:26   what underscored said as well and I [TS]

00:07:28   think you're right that it really was [TS]

00:07:29   just so i could go to sleep at night [TS]

00:07:32   that if for some reason I had a [TS]

00:07:35   rejection that I have done everything in [TS]

00:07:38   my power to make sure that this goes [TS]

00:07:39   through which is to say I've wasted five [TS]

00:07:41   minutes of my time and several phone [TS]

00:07:43   operators time [TS]

00:07:44   yeah so I had a an alternate strategy [TS]

00:07:46   suggested by my wife which was why don't [TS]

00:07:48   you use the credit card that doesn't get [TS]

00:07:50   rejected which is another one of our [TS]

00:07:51   credit cards that historically speaking [TS]

00:07:54   has not gotten me they rejected every [TS]

00:07:55   time we tried to buy expensive things [TS]

00:07:57   with it i think we might have gotten [TS]

00:07:59   spam heart barber with it [TS]

00:08:01   in fact i did buy some apple hardware [TS]

00:08:02   with it in California talk about later [TS]

00:08:07   and so that's a good idea so I went to [TS]

00:08:10   go change the default credit cards after [TS]

00:08:12   i dented lottery already i'm nervous and [TS]

00:08:14   like I already entered the lottery it [TS]

00:08:15   said that was gonna use that card [TS]

00:08:17   interchange a different card so I I [TS]

00:08:18   login to that Apple ID and the have you [TS]

00:08:22   seen the new site for like [TS]

00:08:23   developer.apple.com when you sign in [TS]

00:08:25   that's weird interface where thing is [TS]

00:08:26   centered and shows your certificates in [TS]

00:08:28   your itunes connect account and anyway [TS]

00:08:30   there's an option to go edit your [TS]

00:08:31   account or your change your payment [TS]

00:08:33   method and that sends you to apple ID at [TS]

00:08:34   apple.com and wants you to sign in Marin [TS]

00:08:36   and my apple ID and try to side in and [TS]

00:08:38   it says this Apple ID is not an email [TS]

00:08:40   address you cannot continue and I knew [TS]

00:08:42   this day would come someday I have an [TS]

00:08:44   apple ID that is not an email address [TS]

00:08:45   because I got over [TS]

00:08:46   long time ago and i've been using it for [TS]

00:08:48   years and years going to wtz with it [TS]

00:08:50   doing all sorts of stuff with it and [TS]

00:08:53   many people I know who had non email [TS]

00:08:55   Apple IDs had gotten that same message [TS]

00:08:58   many years pass and had to change it and [TS]

00:09:00   so I think this is the right the best [TS]

00:09:02   time to change my apple ID from one [TS]

00:09:05   that's not an email to one that's an [TS]

00:09:06   email but i also want to change the [TS]

00:09:09   payment method and this is the only i [TS]

00:09:10   tried many different ways to get around [TS]

00:09:12   this can i get my credit card [TS]

00:09:13   information without going through this [TS]

00:09:15   thing that demands they change it to an [TS]

00:09:16   email [TS]

00:09:17   eventually i gave up and said I have to [TS]

00:09:19   change it to an email so now my nan [TS]

00:09:21   email Apple ID is no more [TS]

00:09:23   it has been converted recipe miles an [TS]

00:09:25   email address Apple ID like the rest of [TS]

00:09:28   the peons and and but I could get into [TS]

00:09:32   change my credit card and i did and i [TS]

00:09:33   change the credit card that does not get [TS]

00:09:35   rejected so that was all my prep and I [TS]

00:09:38   thought long and hard about you i'll [TS]

00:09:39   just leave it the way it is or should I [TS]

00:09:42   try to call somebody to get the credit [TS]

00:09:44   card changed over the phone while [TS]

00:09:45   leaving my apple ID is a good idea [TS]

00:09:47   anyway and that was most of the [TS]

00:09:49   excitement and bother about it because I [TS]

00:09:52   thought they were going to tell us who [TS]

00:09:55   got the ticket on the twenty-fifth but I [TS]

00:09:57   guess it's just that the lower bound but [TS]

00:09:58   I saw Marco talking slack about how he [TS]

00:10:01   hadn't gotten an email that WC yet so i [TS]

00:10:03   checked my email inbox and lo and behold [TS]

00:10:06   I saw a 1500 $99 charge yeah you have a [TS]

00:10:10   WC check it and then I had to scramble [TS]

00:10:12   and buy plane tickets into all this [TS]

00:10:13   stuff so i'm going i will be there even [TS]

00:10:15   though I was just there i will be there [TS]

00:10:17   again it will cost a tremendous amount [TS]

00:10:19   of money still haven't decided which [TS]

00:10:20   hotel which of the two hotel [TS]

00:10:22   reservations I made I'm going to keep it [TS]

00:10:23   which I'm going to cancel but one of [TS]

00:10:26   them i will keep so i will be there [TS]

00:10:28   yeah right so what else is going on [TS]

00:10:32   these days you you guys have an [TS]

00:10:35   experience has been like did you [TS]

00:10:38   wouldn't a lot the ticket lottery [TS]

00:10:39   let's talk about anything else in the [TS]

00:10:41   entire world with that know if you had [TS]

00:10:44   to take it by your sadness that neither [TS]

00:10:46   one of you got tickets in the lottery as [TS]

00:10:49   as we record i have not received an [TS]

00:10:50   email i have not received a you got one [TS]

00:10:52   email and i have not received a hot [TS]

00:10:54   tough cookies email either right you've [TS]

00:10:55   got until the 25th technically to see [TS]

00:10:57   whether you get one just because you [TS]

00:10:58   don't have [TS]

00:10:59   right now does not mean you're not going [TS]

00:11:00   to get a ticket lottery because they [TS]

00:11:02   have a three-day window there so yeah [TS]

00:11:04   it's probably not happening now I did [TS]

00:11:06   not see any teach any attempted charge [TS]

00:11:09   against my card or the person wouldn't [TS]

00:11:10   even see an attempted once it went [TS]

00:11:12   through i did not see a charge go [TS]

00:11:13   through but like i said i haven't [TS]

00:11:15   received the screw you email yet my [TS]

00:11:18   coworker Jamie I'm he did get one on the [TS]

00:11:22   same master account like we're two [TS]

00:11:24   individuals to members of the same group [TS]

00:11:27   account here he got his so i'm not too [TS]

00:11:31   terribly helpful but strictly speaking I [TS]

00:11:34   have until Monday afternoon to see but [TS]

00:11:37   we'll see what happens I i have not yet [TS]

00:11:40   received any confirmation or denial and [TS]

00:11:41   Marco I believe you're in the same boat [TS]

00:11:42   that is correct i have seen no no [TS]

00:11:46   response about my ticket status and [TS]

00:11:48   they're also i checked my bank and there [TS]

00:11:51   is not a pending charge on the credit [TS]

00:11:53   card so I i I've heard you know like dat [TS]

00:11:59   tapes for the chat is saying that he [TS]

00:12:01   asked around that that apparently the [TS]

00:12:03   the charges are still being processed [TS]

00:12:05   that like it's not over yet but i think [TS]

00:12:09   it's probably over and that's you know I [TS]

00:12:11   we talked about this on on [TS]

00:12:12   under-the-radar this past week or last [TS]

00:12:14   week i guess i am totally fine going [TS]

00:12:18   without a ticket [TS]

00:12:19   like I would prefer to have a ticket but [TS]

00:12:22   every year i think my need for it goes [TS]

00:12:25   down and in this year if I if I don't [TS]

00:12:29   get one through the regular process like [TS]

00:12:31   everybody else I think obviously like [TS]

00:12:33   I'm not gonna try to pull strings or [TS]

00:12:35   anything or you know try to email around [TS]

00:12:37   or email developer relations or whatever [TS]

00:12:39   i'm not i don't think i'm gonna do any [TS]

00:12:41   of that because I don't I if I can get [TS]

00:12:44   one to the regular means that's great [TS]

00:12:46   but if I don't you know that out that's [TS]

00:12:50   fine too i'll let somebody else take it [TS]

00:12:52   so what do you think about would test [TS]

00:12:54   this briefly and it's like what do you [TS]

00:12:56   think about the idea that one or all of [TS]

00:12:59   us should get tickets because we have a [TS]

00:13:00   podcast where we talk about apple stuff [TS]

00:13:02   in other words of us going as press [TS]

00:13:03   rather than as I develop iOS developers [TS]

00:13:05   or whatever because i think that is a [TS]

00:13:08   perfectly legitimate reason people to go [TS]

00:13:09   to WC in fact I [TS]

00:13:10   even the past had press pass to WTC for [TS]

00:13:14   writing is 10 reviews which I'm no [TS]

00:13:15   longer doing but podcasts our thing and [TS]

00:13:19   people interested in technology listen [TS]

00:13:21   to podcast and at the very least you can [TS]

00:13:22   imagine especially now that they're [TS]

00:13:24   holding the keynote and the big [TS]

00:13:25   auditorium will talk about later but [TS]

00:13:27   there's more room for precedent it you [TS]

00:13:29   know for the keynote at least if not for [TS]

00:13:31   the entire conference or maybe just for [TS]

00:13:33   the first day things with the state of [TS]

00:13:34   the union everything like that [TS]

00:13:35   why shouldn't somebody who has a [TS]

00:13:38   reasonably popular apple tech related [TS]

00:13:41   podcast be in the running at least be [TS]

00:13:43   considered for press passes how many [TS]

00:13:46   tech podcast do get press passes to WC [TS]

00:13:50   as far as I know there aren't any I'm [TS]

00:13:54   not aware of any pure podcast they get [TS]

00:13:57   press passes and they're not there's not [TS]

00:13:59   an Associated website is not like oh I'm [TS]

00:14:01   from the verge cast but I'm part of the [TS]

00:14:03   Virgin the bird gets press passes like [TS]

00:14:04   just all you have is a podcast kind of [TS]

00:14:06   like we have there is no ATP website to [TS]

00:14:08   speak up Marcos got his blog and we all [TS]

00:14:10   have our own individual blogs and [TS]

00:14:11   there's an ATM website for the podcast [TS]

00:14:13   but its not like its associated with a [TS]

00:14:15   website that has any appreciable traffic [TS]

00:14:17   for just the show so why shouldn't there [TS]

00:14:21   be a category of you know we're going to [TS]

00:14:24   press passes to of course all the big [TS]

00:14:25   publications and all the big websites [TS]

00:14:27   and also one or two tech podcast that we [TS]

00:14:30   pick out of a hat or something [TS]

00:14:32   I completely agree with you I don't [TS]

00:14:33   think it's unreasonable but clearly i'm [TS]

00:14:35   extremely biased and especially right [TS]

00:14:37   now because although i'm not saying i'm [TS]

00:14:39   going to pull a bunch of strings because [TS]

00:14:40   honestly I don't think I even have [TS]

00:14:42   strings to pull but if strings were [TS]

00:14:43   pulled on my behalf people of the [TS]

00:14:45   internet i wouldn't complain because I'm [TS]

00:14:47   still better know that stuff and I would [TS]

00:14:48   still I would still love to get an [TS]

00:14:50   actual ticket into the big show [TS]

00:14:52   I will be there regardless but I would [TS]

00:14:55   love to have a ticket [TS]

00:14:55   especially since it is more pertinent to [TS]

00:14:57   my to my world than ever before [TS]

00:14:59   nobody really like 44 up among the three [TS]

00:15:03   of us I think Casey you probably have [TS]

00:15:05   the biggest justification for going this [TS]

00:15:07   year this year yeah I don't think we [TS]

00:15:10   could see that in years past but this [TS]

00:15:11   year i would agree although it's [TS]

00:15:13   probably best that have any of us John [TS]

00:15:15   gets it because all three of us know [TS]

00:15:17   that if john didn't get a ticket there's [TS]

00:15:19   no freaking way we convince him to go to [TS]

00:15:20   San Francisco for funsies exactly i was [TS]

00:15:23   just there do anything [TS]

00:15:24   exactly even more reason for you to tell [TS]

00:15:26   us to kindly screw off [TS]

00:15:27   it is worth pointing out also that like [TS]

00:15:29   the depressed tickets like that the [TS]

00:15:32   people who cover the the keynote for the [TS]

00:15:34   press who get press badges [TS]

00:15:36   first of all it's kind of awesome [TS]

00:15:37   giggles you don't have to wait in the [TS]

00:15:38   four hour long line but second of all [TS]

00:15:41   those people do not get conference [TS]

00:15:44   badges for the rest of the conference [TS]

00:15:45   it's only the keynote in in general [TS]

00:15:48   there are there are exceptions [TS]

00:15:49   yeah it's very rare to have an exception [TS]

00:15:52   though you know it would be plausible [TS]

00:15:54   unreasonable for them to consider large [TS]

00:15:57   tech podcasts to cover the developer [TS]

00:15:59   conference to give them press passes but [TS]

00:16:01   it wouldn't necessarily follow that they [TS]

00:16:03   would get conference tickets and that [TS]

00:16:04   and the press passes tend to go out far [TS]

00:16:06   later like the you know we're not like [TS]

00:16:08   the press people aren't getting invited [TS]

00:16:09   now everybody get invited to it before [TS]

00:16:11   the event [TS]

00:16:12   yeah and in the old days it used to be [TS]

00:16:14   you know that the USA Today and the new [TS]

00:16:16   york times in Time magazine stuff will [TS]

00:16:18   get press passes but websites would not [TS]

00:16:21   and then eventually a couple of websites [TS]

00:16:22   became part of the Blessed set that [TS]

00:16:25   Apple PR chose to give pass through [TS]

00:16:27   these days it seems like it's been [TS]

00:16:29   mostly websites and then of course paper [TS]

00:16:31   complications or whatever so there is a [TS]

00:16:33   progression of what are the what is the [TS]

00:16:37   the the the entities that are allowed to [TS]

00:16:39   get press passes what are they are they [TS]

00:16:42   newspapers magazines websites podcast I [TS]

00:16:45   don't think you're in that group yet but [TS]

00:16:46   it's a natural progression from only [TS]

00:16:48   inviting paper publications to also [TS]

00:16:49   including websites to eventually [TS]

00:16:51   including podcast assuming the audience [TS]

00:16:54   of any podcast is big enough to warrant [TS]

00:16:56   that may be ours isn't you know i'm not [TS]

00:16:57   saying that we you know that ATP needs [TS]

00:16:59   to get some but i am yeah i'll say that [TS]

00:17:01   yeah but come on John promote yourself [TS]

00:17:04   well you got one you're fine yeah you [TS]

00:17:06   don't care i mean i got press pass with [TS]

00:17:08   our technical perspective as a very big [TS]

00:17:09   website and the verge of a very big [TS]

00:17:11   website right where's and any individual [TS]

00:17:13   podcast can't really compare to the size [TS]

00:17:15   of a very big website like that so maybe [TS]

00:17:17   there's some minimum number that they [TS]

00:17:18   you know a minimum minimum audience size [TS]

00:17:21   or whatever they want [TS]

00:17:22   do anyway I think if someone inside [TS]

00:17:25   apples into this that it would be silly [TS]

00:17:27   not to include podcasts in your list of [TS]

00:17:29   entities who should get press passes for [TS]

00:17:31   the keynote on the first day studying [TS]

00:17:32   stuff because it wasn't the podcast [TS]

00:17:35   people like them and they're just as a [TS]

00:17:36   legitimate form of coverage and [TS]

00:17:38   discussion as anything else it's also [TS]

00:17:41   worth pointing out to that the the watch [TS]

00:17:43   event the very first watch event and [TS]

00:17:45   went over this like September November [TS]

00:17:47   2014 write something like that and that [TS]

00:17:50   was at the bill Grampa storm also [TS]

00:17:52   actually but that very first watch event [TS]

00:17:55   at that event that was the first time [TS]

00:17:57   where they really invited a very broad [TS]

00:17:59   swath of press and partly because they [TS]

00:18:01   were going into a new categories they [TS]

00:18:02   had like watch press fashion press but [TS]

00:18:04   that was also the first president I know [TS]

00:18:06   of where they invited major youtube tech [TS]

00:18:09   people like mkbhd it seems like they're [TS]

00:18:12   like breaking the YouTube barrier or the [TS]

00:18:15   YouTube seal they're breaking the [TS]

00:18:17   YouTube zeal in the last couple of [TS]

00:18:19   events recently at least the really big [TS]

00:18:22   ones I so maybe podcast have some hope [TS]

00:18:25   and unfortunately you know podcasts are [TS]

00:18:27   indeed older than you too but youtube is [TS]

00:18:29   way bigger than podcasts and like mkbhd [TS]

00:18:31   had like his audience has is probably 10 [TS]

00:18:34   or 15 times the size of ours at least it [TS]

00:18:36   probably more than that I haven't looked [TS]

00:18:37   recently millions i got millions of [TS]

00:18:39   viewers are not on the youtube channel [TS]

00:18:40   so yeah exactly yeah so so you know [TS]

00:18:43   there are there are lots of like you [TS]

00:18:45   know really popular youtubers who would [TS]

00:18:48   buy raw numbers be ranked way above a [TS]

00:18:51   tech podcast like ours but you know [TS]

00:18:53   Apple PR also it's not purely based on [TS]

00:18:56   numbers it's partly based on like you [TS]

00:18:58   know who you know it's partly based on a [TS]

00:19:00   long established reputation and probably [TS]

00:19:03   based on influence so somebody who has a [TS]

00:19:05   relatively small readership but high [TS]

00:19:07   influence like jim dalrymple is a great [TS]

00:19:09   example [TS]

00:19:10   jim dalrymple site like if you look at [TS]

00:19:12   his numbers on it on his stats and [TS]

00:19:13   sponsorship pages like there are sites [TS]

00:19:16   that get more than that that don't get [TS]

00:19:18   passes but because he's so influential [TS]

00:19:21   that and he's been around so long [TS]

00:19:22   covering this stuff I think that helps [TS]

00:19:24   him be included on those lists so this [TS]

00:19:26   there's it isn't all about numbers it is [TS]

00:19:28   also about influence and relationships [TS]

00:19:31   yeah some of the chat room is saying [TS]

00:19:33   that that [TS]

00:19:34   if they if they picked like it picked [TS]

00:19:35   all three of us maybe we'll be like you [TS]

00:19:37   know inside baseball IQ chamber [TS]

00:19:39   favoritism or whatever like that's the [TS]

00:19:40   job of PR the PR department yeah it's [TS]

00:19:43   job is just select which people and they [TS]

00:19:45   that one possible PR strategies only [TS]

00:19:47   invite people who you know love apple is [TS]

00:19:50   that the best PR strategy probably not [TS]

00:19:51   but their whole job is to decide who to [TS]

00:19:53   pick [TS]

00:19:54   of course it's all favoritism attitude [TS]

00:19:55   its who it to apple PR favors and apple [TS]

00:19:58   prf it's good [TS]

00:19:59   well not only favor you know people that [TS]

00:20:02   love Apple they will try to have an even [TS]

00:20:04   mix where they want a positive outcome [TS]

00:20:05   but they're not just going to pick [TS]

00:20:06   people who don't know never say anything [TS]

00:20:08   negative about Apple there they're [TS]

00:20:09   picking based on a complicated criteria [TS]

00:20:11   but is it is ultimately entirely their [TS]

00:20:13   choice right so there's no such thing as [TS]

00:20:14   you know favoritism [TS]

00:20:16   it's theirs it's not like there's no one [TS]

00:20:19   of the opposite of favoritism that the [TS]

00:20:20   government picks you get sick cover you [TS]

00:20:22   don't mind if animals conference it's [TS]

00:20:24   apples conference of their PR people [TS]

00:20:26   pick who gets press passes that's it [TS]

00:20:28   there's no it's not a democracy [TS]

00:20:30   it's not you know so anyway and i would [TS]

00:20:32   imagine to like the your ability to say [TS]

00:20:35   negative things about apple and still [TS]

00:20:38   get invited [TS]

00:20:39   it's probably correlated to your age and [TS]

00:20:41   size so like you know Joanna stern can [TS]

00:20:43   say in the wall street journal that the [TS]

00:20:45   iphone doesn't have enough battery life [TS]

00:20:46   but if we say that that might hurt our [TS]

00:20:49   chances of getting it you know like [TS]

00:20:50   because we are not like we're not the [TS]

00:20:53   wall street [TS]

00:20:54   yeah thanks Marco yeah sorry about that [TS]

00:20:57   you ruined it for all of us [TS]

00:20:58   well John got in something for you Casey [TS]

00:21:00   Starkey's no i mean i can once you once [TS]

00:21:04   you come out of the press around talking [TS]

00:21:05   about whether we should get passes a [TS]

00:21:07   press passes or whatever then it just [TS]

00:21:09   gets into okay well you're just another [TS]

00:21:11   iOS developer like everybody else and [TS]

00:21:13   then I have no idea what hours and they [TS]

00:21:15   used to randomly pick up i did not win [TS]

00:21:18   the lottery last year or the year before [TS]

00:21:19   the how many times years as lottery been [TS]

00:21:21   going 30 billion hits on this is the [TS]

00:21:24   first time I actually won lottery all [TS]

00:21:26   the other years I've got like you know [TS]

00:21:27   press pass and stuff so you know that's [TS]

00:21:31   probability for you [TS]

00:21:32   yeah i should also note it is very clear [TS]

00:21:36   on the wEDC website where they go [TS]

00:21:40   through the policies and whatnot that [TS]

00:21:42   tickets are non-transferable you know if [TS]

00:21:45   somebody was kind enough to [TS]

00:21:47   offer like hey Mark ok so you can have [TS]

00:21:50   my ticket because i want you to have it [TS]

00:21:52   even though you know I want it I it is [TS]

00:21:55   possible to make that happen but he [TS]

00:21:58   basically what you have to do is ask [TS]

00:22:00   apple and give them a pretty good reason [TS]

00:22:02   and they have every right to say haha no [TS]

00:22:06   so yeah it seems like if we if mark when [TS]

00:22:10   I don't get them sometime in the next [TS]

00:22:12   few hours / couple of days then we'll [TS]

00:22:15   just be goofing off in San Francisco [TS]

00:22:17   ride the cable cars eating rice a roni [TS]

00:22:19   we will be sleeping in on monday that's [TS]

00:22:21   what we're gonna be doing we're going to [TS]

00:22:23   be here I'm not waiting on the freezing [TS]

00:22:24   cold line to 5am yeah that is absolutely [TS]

00:22:27   true and will be in a lot of rice around [TS]

00:22:30   because it's the San Francisco treat [TS]

00:22:31   thinking oh my god we couldn't even make [TS]

00:22:35   that joke is my kids don't have never [TS]

00:22:37   seen that commercial that's all good [TS]

00:22:40   that's right that's your job as a parent [TS]

00:22:42   is to make jokes that are barely funny [TS]

00:22:44   to begin with that your kids won't even [TS]

00:22:46   get all right well have fun john its [TS]

00:22:50   cool actually have a good time to come [TS]

00:22:52   anyway go to go to layers conference or [TS]

00:22:54   something that's probably going to be [TS]

00:22:55   actually I I don't think it's even been [TS]

00:22:57   announced officially yet but now they've [TS]

00:23:00   announced the dates [TS]

00:23:01   there's no tickets no updates have been [TS]

00:23:02   announced yet so take it you can't buy [TS]

00:23:04   tickets yet but I i will we go [TS]

00:23:06   I think I mean if i don't get [TS]

00:23:08   everybody's eating i'll definitely be [TS]

00:23:10   going two layers and I think I'd even be [TS]

00:23:11   going anyway last year i actually got [TS]

00:23:12   both and and I didn't regret that at all [TS]

00:23:15   so i am looking forward two layers this [TS]

00:23:17   year so yes I'll be there for that at [TS]

00:23:20   least [TS]

00:23:20   and I everybody plane ticket I'm going [TS]

00:23:21   to the whole week so I'll see you I'll [TS]

00:23:24   see you there regardless of what happens [TS]

00:23:27   yeah we're all going to be there oh and [TS]

00:23:29   by the way of like everyone's talking [TS]

00:23:30   about this but like WC has been getting [TS]

00:23:32   more and more expensive as a couple blog [TS]

00:23:34   post about how much more expensive it is [TS]

00:23:35   the past [TS]

00:23:36   yeah i think this is close to my limit [TS]

00:23:38   of like next year if current trends [TS]

00:23:41   continue i may not even enter the [TS]

00:23:42   lottery because it is such a tremendous [TS]

00:23:43   amount of money and i'm not writing and [TS]

00:23:45   always 10 review so I'm basically going [TS]

00:23:48   for the purposes of this show and my own [TS]

00:23:52   edification combination but boy it is a [TS]

00:23:54   lot of money i look at how much money is [TS]

00:23:56   causing it all in and I just think about [TS]

00:23:58   what else I could [TS]

00:23:59   without money at you know as my life [TS]

00:24:01   reminds me it will be tax deductible [TS]

00:24:02   because this is a work thing but boy [TS]

00:24:05   it's it's very difficult to justify as [TS]

00:24:09   the the price keeps going up [TS]

00:24:10   yes and especially like the hotel prices [TS]

00:24:12   there are probably the biggest chunk of [TS]

00:24:14   it for most people now unless you're [TS]

00:24:15   flying from somewhere very far away but [TS]

00:24:17   otherwise your panel you're paying [TS]

00:24:19   almost two thousand dollars for the [TS]

00:24:20   hotel in most cases or more or-- yeah [TS]

00:24:22   actually you could depending on how far [TS]

00:24:24   you're willing to walk and many other [TS]

00:24:26   things whether you require a bathroom no [TS]

00:24:28   other such things that seem like they [TS]

00:24:30   should be included it [TS]

00:24:31   yeah that's why I made multiple [TS]

00:24:34   reservations so that i can just decide [TS]

00:24:37   how much you want to spend based on how [TS]

00:24:38   far i want to walk and all sorts of [TS]

00:24:40   other issues and and by the way that's [TS]

00:24:41   yeah people don't know I'm sure Marco [TS]

00:24:43   covered this in the developing [TS]

00:24:44   perspective that I'm not listen to under [TS]

00:24:46   the radar perfect moment expected it's [TS]

00:24:49   an understandable mistake one of those [TS]

00:24:51   underscore shows about prep for WBC and [TS]

00:24:54   the thing that everybody in our circle [TS]

00:24:57   tends to do these days is try to figure [TS]

00:24:59   out when wdc is going to be based on [TS]

00:25:01   reading tea leaves and stuff and then [TS]

00:25:03   just make hotel reservations many many [TS]

00:25:05   months in advance so i think i made my [TS]

00:25:07   hotel reservations in january-february [TS]

00:25:09   or something [TS]

00:25:10   yeah I made mine in February yet you can [TS]

00:25:12   cancel hotel reservations without any [TS]

00:25:14   cost and most hotels so you just guess [TS]

00:25:16   and make a whole bunch of reservations [TS]

00:25:18   for the whole bunch of weeks and when [TS]

00:25:19   apple announces that you canceled the [TS]

00:25:20   other ones [TS]

00:25:21   yep that's exactly what i did i booked [TS]

00:25:23   an early februari ended up guessing [TS]

00:25:25   correctly which was excellent and the [TS]

00:25:28   bill in early februari for the hotel [TS]

00:25:31   where we all tend to stay was 2500 [TS]

00:25:33   dollars and actually or roughly and [TS]

00:25:35   actually went through in dug up what the [TS]

00:25:38   bills were at this same hotel over last [TS]

00:25:40   year's a great blog post about this and [TS]

00:25:42   in 2013 it was 1123 dollars in 46 cents [TS]

00:25:45   and as I just said in 2016 it's going to [TS]

00:25:48   be there abouts of twenty-five hundred [TS]

00:25:50   dollars so if I were to get a ticket [TS]

00:25:52   which I'm hoping but not expecting then [TS]

00:25:56   it's roughly four thousand dollars to go [TS]

00:25:58   to exceed even go there to be in san [TS]

00:26:02   francisco teleported by magic to sleep [TS]

00:26:05   there and then go to WCC now i have not [TS]

00:26:09   eaten any dinners [TS]

00:26:10   I haven't actually made [TS]

00:26:13   get to San Francisco yet all i'm doing [TS]

00:26:14   is sleeping and going to the conference [TS]

00:26:17   and I've looked at plane tickets are [TS]

00:26:19   booked my outbound ticket because i knew [TS]

00:26:22   i was going to be there for at least a [TS]

00:26:23   couple days even without a WBC ticket i [TS]

00:26:25   have yet to book my return flight but it [TS]

00:26:27   should be about five hundred dollars all [TS]

00:26:29   told [TS]

00:26:29   so in case you're wondering it costs [TS]

00:26:31   about the same amount of money to be [TS]

00:26:32   transported in a tube through space [TS]

00:26:34   3,000 miles whatever it is across the [TS]

00:26:37   country it is it does to sleep one night [TS]

00:26:40   in San Francisco actually all across the [TS]

00:26:43   country and back i should say is [TS]

00:26:45   approximately the same as one night in [TS]

00:26:46   San Francisco a joke made last year's [TS]

00:26:48   every night you're there for WC this one [TS]

00:26:50   Apple watch go to sleep another block [TS]

00:26:52   and another on now it's gonna be it's a [TS]

00:26:54   little bit nicer Apple watch every night [TS]

00:26:56   soon we're gonna get graduate to the [TS]

00:26:58   stainless steel model everything right [TS]

00:27:02   now that I've gotten a ticket you can [TS]

00:27:03   thank me for ensuring that there will be [TS]

00:27:06   no new file system this year because i [TS]

00:27:07   didn't show up they were definitely [TS]

00:27:08   announced a new file system but because [TS]

00:27:10   i'm going to be there [TS]

00:27:11   there will be no no file system this [TS]

00:27:13   year 2017 like I said 2017 I'm gonna [TS]

00:27:15   take it and now they're all really new [TS]

00:27:17   file system and maybe we'll get the the [TS]

00:27:20   tester USB hub before then it's funny [TS]

00:27:23   because I'd said to a few people leading [TS]

00:27:26   up to the WWDC tickets being announced [TS]

00:27:29   you know here it was I've been 20 11 [TS]

00:27:31   through 15 inclusive and every one of [TS]

00:27:34   those those years you would think well I [TS]

00:27:37   kind of didn't have a lot of business [TS]

00:27:38   being there like I sort of did once ATP [TS]

00:27:40   came but in terms of like my day-to-day [TS]

00:27:42   job I had no business being there I was [TS]

00:27:45   very lucky and here it is i am now an [TS]

00:27:47   honest-to-goodness iOS developer and [TS]

00:27:49   sitting here now I do not have a WWDC [TS]

00:27:51   ticket the one time when it makes sense [TS]

00:27:53   for me to have 1i don't [TS]

00:27:55   it's okay though i'll be ok my first [TS]

00:27:58   sponsor this week is fracture fracture [TS]

00:28:01   is a company that prints photos directly [TS]

00:28:03   on glass in vivid colors these colors [TS]

00:28:05   pop like you won't believe and all [TS]

00:28:07   fracture prints come on solid backings [TS]

00:28:09   that are ready to mount right out of the [TS]

00:28:11   package all you do is take the included [TS]

00:28:13   screws in the wall and hang it up that's [TS]

00:28:15   it it's really affordable to the price [TS]

00:28:17   starting just fifteen dollars for a [TS]

00:28:19   small square fracture print and of [TS]

00:28:21   course they have rectangles to if you're [TS]

00:28:22   not part of the Instagram generation [TS]

00:28:24   they have all sorts of sizes up from [TS]

00:28:26   there and the prices here are very [TS]

00:28:28   reasonable i have these all over my [TS]

00:28:29   office we accomplished on our fracture [TS]

00:28:32   prints all time because they look great [TS]

00:28:33   and they are so modern-looking they it's [TS]

00:28:38   just a piece of glass with the photo [TS]

00:28:40   printer edge-to-edge and that's it [TS]

00:28:41   there's no there's no frame around it [TS]

00:28:43   there's no border around it doesn't need [TS]

00:28:46   to be I think it would look weird if it [TS]

00:28:47   had one these things just look like pure [TS]

00:28:49   photos and a nice modern print you don't [TS]

00:28:52   have to worry about framing their [TS]

00:28:53   lightweight you don't have to worry [TS]

00:28:55   about like a half trying to hang like a [TS]

00:28:56   really heavy duty hook in the water hold [TS]

00:28:58   this thing up it they're just great i [TS]

00:29:00   love these fracture prints so check out [TS]

00:29:02   they make great gifts also i've sent [TS]

00:29:05   them to number of people relatives [TS]

00:29:06   friends things like a picture your kid [TS]

00:29:09   if you're just sending it to to your [TS]

00:29:10   your parents or something like that [TS]

00:29:12   these things make great gifts even gag [TS]

00:29:14   gifts and your friends if you want if [TS]

00:29:16   you go on a trip with your friends you [TS]

00:29:17   want some pictures afterwards any kind [TS]

00:29:19   of holiday or celebrating birthdays [TS]

00:29:21   anything that these things make great [TS]

00:29:23   gifts or just fine for your own house [TS]

00:29:24   because they really are i think the best [TS]

00:29:26   way to get a picture printed to hang on [TS]

00:29:27   your wall so check out fracture today go [TS]

00:29:31   to fracture me.com and use code ATP 10 [TS]

00:29:35   to get ten percent off so thanks a lot [TS]

00:29:37   to fracture for sponsoring our our show [TS]

00:29:39   once again go to fracture me.com use [TS]

00:29:42   code ATP ten for ten percent off thank [TS]

00:29:44   you very much [TS]

00:29:45   we should probably do what is [TS]

00:29:47   undisputedly follow-up and we should [TS]

00:29:49   talk about what a friend of the show [TS]

00:29:51   Manresa is written in regarding this is [TS]

00:29:54   about the charging stations again [TS]

00:29:56   Tesla versus other he was pointing out [TS]

00:29:57   the standard charging connector that we [TS]

00:29:58   talked about last show on this is where [TS]

00:30:01   he is in austin texas [TS]

00:30:02   there are hundreds of what he calls [TS]

00:30:04   level 2 charging stations in austin [TS]

00:30:05   alone [TS]

00:30:06   ChargePoint comments 27,000 a total [TS]

00:30:08   vastly outnumbered supercharger so these [TS]

00:30:10   are not the super fast super charge [TS]

00:30:13   things for Tesla or otherwise there's [TS]

00:30:14   kind of like plug your car and while [TS]

00:30:17   you're shopping while your coders they [TS]

00:30:19   charge more slowly but there are many [TS]

00:30:20   many more of them some of them are free [TS]

00:30:22   some of them charge hourly rate or [TS]

00:30:23   whatever it does have a lot of respect [TS]

00:30:25   for testing trying to solve the road [TS]

00:30:26   trip problem its ambitious and the kind [TS]

00:30:28   of thing and no car company would do no [TS]

00:30:29   other company would do but they're also [TS]

00:30:31   doing a good job of having destination [TS]

00:30:33   charges at hotels and I've seen great [TS]

00:30:35   progress on the infrastructure you [TS]

00:30:36   actually need day-to-day with [TS]

00:30:38   in cities and those aren't from Tesla so [TS]

00:30:39   we talk so much about tests on the [TS]

00:30:41   superchargers but it's an important to [TS]

00:30:43   acknowledge my say this to the mall and [TS]

00:30:44   stuff that there are tons of electric [TS]

00:30:46   car park here parking spots and I guess [TS]

00:30:48   those all of the standard SATA connector [TS]

00:30:49   in them and no they don't charge you as [TS]

00:30:51   fast as the superchargers do that's why [TS]

00:30:53   the supercharger super but there's way [TS]

00:30:55   more of them [TS]

00:30:56   excellent we should also talk about and [TS]

00:30:58   we made reference to him earlier mkbhd [TS]

00:31:01   yeah now they're all jealous of the [TS]

00:31:03   press pass that he's getting and we're [TS]

00:31:05   not we should take this time to dance on [TS]

00:31:07   his self-inflicted grave is that now [TS]

00:31:09   mixing metaphors sorry what happened i [TS]

00:31:11   miss this [TS]

00:31:12   Oh quote me yeah he did to his credit he [TS]

00:31:15   tweeted this himself is a tweet from him [TS]

00:31:16   he says me and 2015 i guarantee an extra [TS]

00:31:19   macbook will have at least two USB [TS]

00:31:20   seaports and then he put me right now [TS]

00:31:22   because of course the new macbook was [TS]

00:31:24   updated talk about that a little later [TS]

00:31:26   it does not have two USB ports last year [TS]

00:31:30   or whenever he made that video he was [TS]

00:31:32   very adamant that it will have more than [TS]

00:31:34   one quote me he said and I believe we [TS]

00:31:36   had to chuckle about it on the show [TS]

00:31:38   because it's totally apple thing to do [TS]

00:31:41   to not add one more port despite the [TS]

00:31:43   fact that we had like 17 episodes of ATP [TS]

00:31:45   talking about this one port we were not [TS]

00:31:48   convinced [TS]

00:31:49   I don't think of my recollection serves [TS]

00:31:50   and now it's going to be 18 [TS]

00:31:52   yeah that that Apple was going to change [TS]

00:31:55   their mind just because we want more [TS]

00:31:56   than one port doesn't mean Apple does [TS]

00:31:58   and lo and behold there's a new macbook [TS]

00:32:00   out it does not have more than one port [TS]

00:32:01   mkbhd called himself on it to his credit [TS]

00:32:05   we will put the links in the show notes [TS]

00:32:07   so and and also I think he ran out of [TS]

00:32:09   room in the tweet because in the tweet [TS]

00:32:11   he said I guarantee an action macbook [TS]

00:32:13   and the actual quote he said I pretty [TS]

00:32:14   much guarantee the second generation of [TS]

00:32:17   this than my name a club so he said [TS]

00:32:19   pretty much so we had a walk forward in [TS]

00:32:20   this was learning learning the ways of [TS]

00:32:22   learning the ways of the waffle words he [TS]

00:32:24   said pretty much guarantee which is not [TS]

00:32:26   the same as a guarantee it's like [TS]

00:32:28   virtually spotless your dishes will have [TS]

00:32:30   spots so I gave him a pass i also agree [TS]

00:32:35   that a shot more than one port as [TS]

00:32:37   previously discussed but they don't [TS]

00:32:40   yeah i mean something tells me that we [TS]

00:32:42   have more to learn from mkbhd then he [TS]

00:32:44   has to learn from us but i think but i [TS]

00:32:48   think you know that we've seen a lot of [TS]

00:32:49   comments since they [TS]

00:32:51   so apple apple update the macbook one [TS]

00:32:54   the 12-inch MacBook which I call the [TS]

00:32:55   macbook one which actually had that name [TS]

00:32:57   has stuck around in in our circle and [TS]

00:32:59   actually very proud of that so-and-so [TS]

00:33:01   apple has updated the the macbook one [TS]

00:33:03   with skylake cpu this past week and it [TS]

00:33:08   is not a big update it is it a lot of [TS]

00:33:11   people are really expecting expecting [TS]

00:33:14   basically the impossible from this that [TS]

00:33:16   and I can't blame me know Apple has [TS]

00:33:19   cultivated a an expectation of like [TS]

00:33:21   products get a lot better in their [TS]

00:33:23   second and third generations and [TS]

00:33:26   everything is always getting better all [TS]

00:33:27   the time so it shouldn't this get better [TS]

00:33:29   by a bit by bleeps and bounds to and the [TS]

00:33:33   reality is that the macbook one uses a [TS]

00:33:37   special extremely low power consumption [TS]

00:33:40   Intel platform it uses a very low-power [TS]

00:33:43   cpu with a very limited low-power [TS]

00:33:45   chipset to power everything else also [TS]

00:33:47   and one of the one of the the core [TS]

00:33:51   principles of you know computers today [TS]

00:33:53   modern mobile computers especially [TS]

00:33:55   laptops at and it is that you basically [TS]

00:33:58   have your limited by x power and [TS]

00:34:02   thermals and so you have different [TS]

00:34:04   classes of what kind of performance and [TS]

00:34:06   what kind of connectivity what kind of [TS]

00:34:07   Port what kind of luxuries you know what [TS]

00:34:09   kind of speeds how many cores these are [TS]

00:34:12   all determined by fundamentally like how [TS]

00:34:15   much power can you supply the cpu and [TS]

00:34:17   then correspondingly how much heat can [TS]

00:34:19   you cool from this from being emitted [TS]

00:34:21   from the cpu like a macbook air those [TS]

00:34:24   CPUs are something like 17 wat [TS]

00:34:26   consumption and heat design a 13-inch [TS]

00:34:30   macbook i forget what those are [TS]

00:34:31   something like the the 25 range maybe [TS]

00:34:34   and then a 15-inch with the quad cores [TS]

00:34:36   that's going to be some somewhere in the [TS]

00:34:38   40-watt range the macbook one CPU has a [TS]

00:34:42   5 watt range a 5 watt cpu cannot do a [TS]

00:34:46   whole lot compared to even the 17 wat [TS]

00:34:50   cpus in the macbook air let alone like [TS]

00:34:53   the nicer you know 20 or 30 what's he [TS]

00:34:55   using like a 13-inch macbook pro you [TS]

00:34:57   know the macbook one is designed its [TS]

00:34:59   fanless which is one of the biggest [TS]

00:35:01   limitations of this because even a [TS]

00:35:03   little bit [TS]

00:35:05   of air moving through a heat sink can [TS]

00:35:07   cool way more effectively then totally [TS]

00:35:11   passive cooling systems so this thing [TS]

00:35:13   has no fan it has a very small battery [TS]

00:35:15   inside a very small enclosure so the [TS]

00:35:17   limitations placed on this are such that [TS]

00:35:20   the macbook one as long as it continues [TS]

00:35:22   to be there in that size enclosure and [TS]

00:35:25   not have an active cooling fan and not [TS]

00:35:27   have a substantially bigger battery it [TS]

00:35:30   will never have similar performance as [TS]

00:35:33   like even a couple generation old [TS]

00:35:36   13-inch macbook pro or even a couple [TS]

00:35:39   generation old macbook air if the [TS]

00:35:42   macbook airs continue to be updated [TS]

00:35:43   which is a giant if the answer is [TS]

00:35:45   probably no but like people who expected [TS]

00:35:47   the macbook one to be like two or three [TS]

00:35:51   times faster than it was before [TS]

00:35:53   you're gonna be disappointed because [TS]

00:35:55   there just isn't enough thermal Headroom [TS]

00:35:57   in that kind of in that enclosure you [TS]

00:36:00   like and and desktop or in a pc cpus [TS]

00:36:03   don't make those kind of jumps and power [TS]

00:36:05   efficiency in one year [TS]

00:36:07   this computer will never match the [TS]

00:36:10   macbook pro of like even two or three [TS]

00:36:13   years ago it will you know it's it's [TS]

00:36:15   very limited by what it can do and if [TS]

00:36:17   you want something basically the the new [TS]

00:36:20   macbook one is something like twenty [TS]

00:36:22   percent faster than the old macbook 1i I [TS]

00:36:25   haven't seen a whole bunch of x marks [TS]

00:36:27   yet but it's in that ballpark in the [TS]

00:36:28   ballpark in the ballpark of twenty [TS]

00:36:29   percent faster and that's a big bump too [TS]

00:36:32   because like you're normally when we get [TS]

00:36:33   new max it's like oh and the cpu is [TS]

00:36:35   fifteen percent faster and take what you [TS]

00:36:37   can get twenty twenty-five percent [TS]

00:36:38   faster and cpu is nothing to sneeze at [TS]

00:36:40   like I don't think this is a bad update [TS]

00:36:42   it is faster and gets more battery life [TS]

00:36:44   that's what updates are supposed to do [TS]

00:36:45   they just didn't end that USB port [TS]

00:36:47   whatever [TS]

00:36:47   well exactly but like a lot of people [TS]

00:36:49   especially people who have owned the [TS]

00:36:51   different the macbook one that the [TS]

00:36:52   previously on the first generation one a [TS]

00:36:54   lot of them you know the macbook one is [TS]

00:36:56   a very slow computer a lot of them were [TS]

00:36:58   hoping that this would make it a [TS]

00:36:59   reasonably speeded computer and it just [TS]

00:37:02   doesn't because like slow x 1.2 is still [TS]

00:37:06   slow you know and and you're like twenty [TS]

00:37:09   percent in in one generation is a [TS]

00:37:11   massive jump in in for pcp use these [TS]

00:37:14   days you're looking to get five or ten [TS]

00:37:15   percent most of the time so this is this [TS]

00:37:18   was a [TS]

00:37:18   substantial jump skylight was a long [TS]

00:37:20   time coming and it's a it's a major [TS]

00:37:23   advancement by Intel and so they put [TS]

00:37:26   this in here and they still it's still a [TS]

00:37:28   slow computer it's still only has one [TS]

00:37:31   port and some of that is because of [TS]

00:37:32   limitations on that low power chipset [TS]

00:37:34   adding more port requires more from the [TS]

00:37:36   chipset which the super low power chips [TS]

00:37:39   that in for something people want [TS]

00:37:41   doesn't even support it for some of the [TS]

00:37:43   things you know we don't know why the [TS]

00:37:44   reasons are that they were made but they [TS]

00:37:46   probably have to do with space and power [TS]

00:37:47   so this computer will never be what the [TS]

00:37:52   macbook air is today the role the [TS]

00:37:54   macbook air service today requires a [TS]

00:37:57   little bit more space a little bigger [TS]

00:37:58   battery and a fan this is kind of a [TS]

00:38:01   problem like Apple has replaced the [TS]

00:38:03   macbook air effectively from from the [TS]

00:38:05   way it appears they replaced the macbook [TS]

00:38:07   air with a computer that can never [TS]

00:38:11   replace the macbook air and it might be [TS]

00:38:13   it might be relevant [TS]

00:38:14   you know the people a lot of people like [TS]

00:38:17   this better [TS]

00:38:18   that's fine the macbook pro is likely to [TS]

00:38:21   get a lot thinner and lighter when it [TS]

00:38:23   gets its skylake updated you know any [TS]

00:38:25   any any day now basically probably WC so [TS]

00:38:28   the macbook air is is kind of just left [TS]

00:38:33   for nothing that there's now these [TS]

00:38:35   wonderful 17 wat cpus that Intel makes [TS]

00:38:38   that Apple is just not going to be using [TS]

00:38:40   i guess in the future which seems like a [TS]

00:38:42   mistake but I don't know [TS]

00:38:44   so the macbook one in order to get that [TS]

00:38:47   size you're giving up quite a lot and [TS]

00:38:51   one of those things is that computer [TS]

00:38:53   will never be fast relative to the rest [TS]

00:38:55   of the computers it won't even be [TS]

00:38:57   remotely competitive into compared to [TS]

00:38:59   the rest of the lineup and it will never [TS]

00:39:00   have that candy connectivity the rest of [TS]

00:39:02   the lineup if that's what you want if [TS]

00:39:04   you want some kind of modern performance [TS]

00:39:06   and decent connectivity you're gonna [TS]

00:39:08   have to go with a bigger model and [TS]

00:39:10   that's not too bad because the bigger [TS]

00:39:11   models are awesome [TS]

00:39:12   then they get a SS a speed bump to yes [TS]

00:39:15   yeah faster storage and I think faster [TS]

00:39:17   storage will probably have more of an [TS]

00:39:18   impact on people's lives of that [TS]

00:39:20   computer then cpus because i don't think [TS]

00:39:21   people are using it to do like big cpu [TS]

00:39:24   or they shouldn't be using a big cpu a [TS]

00:39:25   test but everything you do like involves [TS]

00:39:28   the disk like launching things and just [TS]

00:39:29   web browser [TS]

00:39:30   buzzing with the disk cache and [TS]

00:39:31   everything so I don't use one of these [TS]

00:39:33   in person but yeah but like that the [TS]

00:39:35   disk was already fast it was already a [TS]

00:39:37   pci-express native SSD like it they know [TS]

00:39:39   it is you know if you look at raw [TS]

00:39:42   numbers it is faster now and it's faster [TS]

00:39:45   by a pretty good margin in like disc [TS]

00:39:47   benchmarks but the whole machine is [TS]

00:39:49   still held back dramatically by the very [TS]

00:39:53   slow cpu and it's very low-power ceiling [TS]

00:39:55   you might think like I thought when I [TS]

00:39:58   bought one for a day I thought you know [TS]

00:40:00   what [TS]

00:40:01   what am i doing on a laptop that needs [TS]

00:40:02   that much power it's like not most most [TS]

00:40:04   of the time just like typing answering [TS]

00:40:05   emails and stuff so most of the time [TS]

00:40:07   it's fine right [TS]

00:40:08   first of all typing on that but also the [TS]

00:40:11   trackpad and that's the worst for stock [TS]

00:40:13   trak i have i've ever used but you'd be [TS]

00:40:17   surprised like modern OS 10 and things [TS]

00:40:20   you take for granted that do you see pu [TS]

00:40:23   power like viewing your photos like if [TS]

00:40:26   you if you wanted to like take your to [TS]

00:40:28   sync your photo library over to that [TS]

00:40:29   computer so you can take it with you and [TS]

00:40:31   like look at on vacation or add to it on [TS]

00:40:32   vacation or do even like basic [TS]

00:40:35   operations on photos that you take on [TS]

00:40:37   vacation even if there's photos from [TS]

00:40:39   your phone not from a fancy camera that [TS]

00:40:41   actually does use cpu power on the mac [TS]

00:40:44   and it actually is noticeably annoyingly [TS]

00:40:47   slow on that computer for a lot of cases [TS]

00:40:49   so again it's just like this computer if [TS]

00:40:53   what you want is is a decently speedy [TS]

00:40:56   computer that you're not going to ever [TS]

00:40:59   notice is that slow this is not the [TS]

00:41:01   computer for you because it will always [TS]

00:41:02   be slow [TS]

00:41:03   it can't be fast relative to the rest of [TS]

00:41:05   the lineup with that kind of thermal [TS]

00:41:07   headroom limitation this is the part of [TS]

00:41:10   the program or i willfully refused to [TS]

00:41:12   look up the Geekbench numbers for this [TS]

00:41:14   quote-unquote slow macbook and compare [TS]

00:41:17   them to let the 2008 mac pro that I'm [TS]

00:41:18   sitting in front of the size of soup [TS]

00:41:20   don't want to know [TS]

00:41:22   moving on i think just for reference i'm [TS]

00:41:24   pretty sure it'll probably kill you one [TS]

00:41:26   single threaded but I don't you I think [TS]

00:41:28   you have at least double a [TS]

00:41:29   multi-threaded let's not discuss what [TS]

00:41:32   you do what you have the 2.66 is an [TS]

00:41:34   eight core 2.6 remember 2.8 right let me [TS]

00:41:38   say something like that yeah now to [TS]

00:41:40   point it is a core 2.8 mac pro [TS]

00:41:43   2008a now without looking up by doing [TS]

00:41:46   what did you think he was doing John you [TS]

00:41:48   shouldn't answer that question [TS]

00:41:49   no it feels fast i have all the storage [TS]

00:41:52   check look I've got a terabyte SSD take [TS]

00:41:55   that macbook listen to your bargaining [TS]

00:41:56   with yourself [TS]

00:41:57   the story it's ok no Tara by this is the [TS]

00:42:00   option and that thing even though my [TS]

00:42:02   hookup setup pci-express but I think [TS]

00:42:04   about that it is at least it's one USB [TS]

00:42:07   port USB 3 you don't have that either [TS]

00:42:10   had no I don't usb3 don't care about [TS]

00:42:12   that way more USB ports that anyway [TS]

00:42:16   while we send the chatroom off to figure [TS]

00:42:19   out how miserable John should be [TS]

00:42:21   oh my god you're single threaded is only [TS]

00:42:23   1500 on that [TS]

00:42:25   Shh no mr. wellness come out of your [TS]

00:42:30   many year holes are imax or 4,000 2008 [TS]

00:42:33   computer give me a break it was fast but [TS]

00:42:35   I got it the multi-threaded is [TS]

00:42:36   respectable you got 10,000 ultra that is [TS]

00:42:39   respectable but 1,500 single that like [TS]

00:42:41   iphones beat that now [TS]

00:42:43   oh my new iPad is faster than this mac [TS]

00:42:45   pro anyway bumper sounds I put this in [TS]

00:42:49   there because oh I apologize show [TS]

00:42:52   yes last show Marco talked about the [TS]

00:42:54   bumper sounds and we discuss the the [TS]

00:42:56   start times you use and he said he [TS]

00:42:57   wanted to use the windows XP USB thing [TS]

00:42:59   but didn't because I wouldn't like it [TS]

00:43:00   and what are you doing the next show [TS]

00:43:02   he used the USB sound from Windows XP [TS]

00:43:04   and guess what I don't like it but [TS]

00:43:06   they're wonderful and guess what [TS]

00:43:08   everyone else looks like when I was not [TS]

00:43:10   everyone out the windows users like that [TS]

00:43:12   go windows i remember that that's great [TS]

00:43:14   of course they're gonna lie here it is [TS]

00:43:15   nothing to know what the problem is it's [TS]

00:43:17   just what Marco said it was my guess was [TS]

00:43:20   last episode is what it was just Marcus [TS]

00:43:21   said it's a perfect like mirror images [TS]

00:43:24   did you and do [TS]

00:43:26   it's perfect their bad sounds and [TS]

00:43:28   they're from windows in the front [TS]

00:43:28   windows XP for crying out loud [TS]

00:43:30   oh here's what the windows XP sounds did [TS]

00:43:32   they made me like the the startup chime [TS]

00:43:34   sounds better like by comparison even [TS]

00:43:36   though I thought the start times that he [TS]

00:43:38   chose were not the ones that I would [TS]

00:43:39   have picked at least they were ample [TS]

00:43:41   sounds they weren't from windows and [TS]

00:43:43   they weren't no i do not like them i do [TS]

00:43:46   not like the the windows XP this is not [TS]

00:43:48   the apple tech podcast it's the [TS]

00:43:50   accidental text podcast and we have [TS]

00:43:52   accidentally that's what we talked about [TS]

00:43:53   Apple all the time [TS]

00:43:54   I mean numbers even use windows anymore [TS]

00:43:56   and no it won't but we have accidentally [TS]

00:43:59   backed into the perfect and bumper [TS]

00:44:01   sounds I marco i stand with you I'm in [TS]

00:44:03   full support they're not the perfect dad [TS]

00:44:05   bumper sounds they're terrible and [TS]

00:44:06   Microsoft's gonna come to you anyway I [TS]

00:44:10   think he might be so old that maybe [TS]

00:44:11   public domain was it death of the author [TS]

00:44:13   plus 75 years that they get something [TS]

00:44:15   like that right [TS]

00:44:16   it's closed how old is windows XP [TS]

00:44:17   doesn't brian eno to do those sounds a [TS]

00:44:19   brand-new did some windows sounds maybe [TS]

00:44:21   we'll just for windows 95 he's still [TS]

00:44:22   alive [TS]

00:44:23   oh goodness I well I like them now I [TS]

00:44:25   don't wanna get sued for into oblivion [TS]

00:44:27   but i do like we're not gonna get sued [TS]

00:44:28   by the way I'm I'm filing a formal [TS]

00:44:30   protest against the windows XP USB [TS]

00:44:32   sounds add pumpers so listeners feel [TS]

00:44:34   free to tweet at siracusa about how much [TS]

00:44:37   you want the SP sounds because we all do [TS]

00:44:40   our buddy idea is that the only way it's [TS]

00:44:41   gonna go away so we have better [TS]

00:44:42   alternatives so people should come up [TS]

00:44:44   with high-quality recordings are better [TS]

00:44:45   alternatives that are either from apple [TS]

00:44:47   or from whole cloth that are not related [TS]

00:44:49   to windows or fish maybe I would except [TS]

00:44:52   fish more than windows and also liked it [TS]

00:44:56   much of the complaining about the other [TS]

00:44:58   Santa Fe old Mac sounds is that they [TS]

00:45:00   were like kinda like to jarring yeah I'm [TS]

00:45:03   great windows when windows sound design [TS]

00:45:05   is always made to be so like universally [TS]

00:45:07   pleasing that everybody feels nothing [TS]

00:45:08   like the windows sounds are like the [TS]

00:45:10   sand equivalent of the paintings in [TS]

00:45:12   hotel rooms like you just ask notice [TS]

00:45:15   that there's a like it is nice when [TS]

00:45:17   their sound there but you don't notice [TS]

00:45:19   the sound and it just it offends nobody [TS]

00:45:22   it's completely bland and it's fine i [TS]

00:45:25   think the login sounds offensive you [TS]

00:45:27   know the login sound oh ya doing [TS]

00:45:30   I don't know then that the one you login [TS]

00:45:32   and the big ugly windows XP green grass [TS]

00:45:36   desktop greets you [TS]

00:45:37   well I thought login was like blue and [TS]

00:45:39   then the logout was do do right [TS]

00:45:42   yeah maybe I remember it the wrong way [TS]

00:45:44   but anyway I think some of the window [TS]

00:45:46   sounds are offensive and I think the USB [TS]

00:45:47   sound like its emitting a sound when you [TS]

00:45:49   plug in the USB device and I don't like [TS]

00:45:51   the sound comes down [TS]

00:45:53   well I'm not gonna get into a fight with [TS]

00:45:56   the USB stack an OS 10 is is not as good [TS]

00:45:59   as the window like you can't just unplug [TS]

00:46:00   USB stick [TS]

00:46:02   even though i've been using the USB [TS]

00:46:03   stick i guess it would like buffered io [TS]

00:46:05   like it engine [TS]

00:46:07   it is used to flush I owe every single [TS]

00:46:09   eye operation and it just look at way to [TS]

00:46:11   the light's not blinking and yank it out [TS]

00:46:13   that's barbaric [TS]

00:46:13   come on why not just go back to drive [TS]

00:46:15   letters I tell you what the one thing [TS]

00:46:20   that it that drives windows you convert [TS]

00:46:23   crazy [TS]

00:46:24   anytime I talk to one and it drives me [TS]

00:46:26   crazy too is having to unmount drives it [TS]

00:46:29   drives people even have to have to eject [TS]

00:46:31   it [TS]

00:46:32   what are you talking about but that's [TS]

00:46:33   how modern i/o system works you don't [TS]

00:46:35   flush everything discount every [TS]

00:46:36   operation that would be crazypants you [TS]

00:46:38   have a buffer and you have flash that [TS]

00:46:40   buffer and you you have to know when [TS]

00:46:42   it's safe to inject something how do you [TS]

00:46:44   know how do you know when it's safe I [TS]

00:46:45   mean going back to the old unix days [TS]

00:46:47   type you know sink twice because it's [TS]

00:46:50   voodoo and the second time really counts [TS]

00:46:52   and then you can unmount your thing [TS]

00:46:53   because then you'll know all the bits [TS]

00:46:56   have made their way to the disc goodness [TS]

00:46:59   we also sponsor tonight by betterment it [TS]

00:47:03   is never too late to start saving for [TS]

00:47:04   retirement or other financial goals and [TS]

00:47:15   investment service out there so you [TS]

00:47:16   probably heard about betterment from [TS]

00:47:18   techcrunch the wall street journal other [TS]

00:47:19   major news sites betterment makes it [TS]

00:47:21   easier more straightforward and less [TS]

00:47:23   expensive to invest and i can personally [TS]

00:47:26   attest to that the fees that most [TS]

00:47:28   investors that I've seen charge are way [TS]

00:47:31   higher than the fees that betterment [TS]

00:47:33   charges it and that that adds up over [TS]

00:47:35   time a lot so betterment is built on [TS]

00:47:39   smarter cutting-edge technology to bring [TS]

00:47:41   sophisticated investing and financial [TS]

00:48:12   mint.com / ATP betterment investing made [TS]

00:48:15   better [TS]

00:48:17   WBC is gonna be a little bit different [TS]

00:48:19   this year I'm probably not gonna know [TS]

00:48:21   about it in normal Marco I'm sorry i'll [TS]

00:48:23   compose myself I'm there's going to be a [TS]

00:48:26   different location for monday we're [TS]

00:48:28   going to be at the bill graham [TS]

00:48:29   auditorium which we briefly made mention [TS]

00:48:31   of earlier this is a change from at [TS]

00:48:34   least before 2011 i mean like i said [TS]

00:48:36   i've been going since 2011 Marco since [TS]

00:48:38   09 is that right yeah no I mean they've [TS]

00:48:40   never done something like this in San [TS]

00:48:42   Francisco as far as what they used to be [TS]

00:48:44   back if you go back far enough and if [TS]

00:48:46   you include Macworld's that they have [TS]

00:48:47   like you know things in boston and [TS]

00:48:49   everything though that was all before [TS]

00:48:50   our time right [TS]

00:48:52   so monday the way Monday's typically [TS]

00:48:55   work in the past was you would line up [TS]

00:48:58   absurdly early outside of moscone which [TS]

00:49:00   is where the conference's you would be [TS]

00:49:02   letting uncomfortably close to the time [TS]

00:49:06   of the keynote usually anyway you would [TS]

00:49:09   walk up to 3 or you would migrate your [TS]

00:49:11   way up to the third floor which the [TS]

00:49:12   keynote was then there would be a mad [TS]

00:49:14   Stampede into the keynote room there be [TS]

00:49:16   the keynote everyone would get punted [TS]

00:49:19   downstairs to eat and then you would [TS]

00:49:21   come back up and you would watch the [TS]

00:49:23   developer state of the union which was [TS]

00:49:24   kinda like a keynote but for nerdier [TS]

00:49:26   types and then tuesday through friday [TS]

00:49:29   was just regular conference time this [TS]

00:49:31   year apparently on Monday it's all going [TS]

00:49:34   to be the bill graham auditorium the and [TS]

00:49:36   actually even the check in on sunday the [TS]

00:49:39   way it always used to work was you could [TS]

00:49:40   check in Moscow neon sunday now that [TS]

00:49:42   check is apparently the bill graham [TS]

00:49:44   auditorium on Sunday and then all day [TS]

00:49:46   monday is that the auditorium the that's [TS]

00:49:49   where the keynote will be that's where [TS]

00:49:51   the state of the union will be is there [TS]

00:49:52   anything else that evening I feel like [TS]

00:49:54   there's one other thing [TS]

00:49:55   ATS right Apple Design Awards that's [TS]

00:49:58   right that's going to be on Monday night [TS]

00:50:01   all the program auditorium and then the [TS]

00:50:03   thing that used to be called the beer [TS]

00:50:04   beer bash now I guess it's called the [TS]

00:50:06   wdc bash that used to be at yerba buena [TS]

00:50:09   gardens which is this like a park just a [TS]

00:50:12   couple blocks moscone now that's also [TS]

00:50:14   going to be at the bill graham [TS]

00:50:15   auditorium so it's like to be outdoors [TS]

00:50:16   anymore and it's going to be off-site [TS]

00:50:19   again as well further off site anyway [TS]

00:50:21   and this is all bit of a change and [TS]

00:50:23   there was a funny tweet by friend of the [TS]

00:50:25   show Craig Hockenberry I don't know if [TS]

00:50:27   he's being snarky or not because I don't [TS]

00:50:29   know enough about [TS]

00:50:29   San Francisco but it reads as follows [TS]

00:50:31   seriously do not take a direct route [TS]

00:50:33   from WWDC hotel bill graham get onto [TS]

00:50:36   market street pay attention from powell [TS]

00:50:38   to the Civic Center apparently because [TS]

00:50:41   that area which I guess the Tenderloin [TS]

00:50:43   I'm sorry san franciscans is a little [TS]

00:50:46   bit rough [TS]

00:50:47   so there's transportation for the beer [TS]

00:50:49   bash for the WTC bash [TS]

00:50:51   I don't believe there's any for the [TS]

00:50:54   keynote on Monday now the bigger venue [TS]

00:50:56   makes sense in terms of wanting really [TS]

00:50:59   for wanting more press like pleaded with [TS]

00:51:00   the watch event we just invite everybody [TS]

00:51:02   sure come out we will accept your [TS]

00:51:04   coverage and we need more room for you [TS]

00:51:06   so it's WABC attendees and tons and tons [TS]

00:51:08   and press come look at whatever it is [TS]

00:51:10   we're going to announce State of the [TS]

00:51:12   Union I feel like I mean the only reason [TS]

00:51:15   you're holding a bears because that's [TS]

00:51:16   where the keynote is not gonna make [TS]

00:51:17   everybody move from one location [TS]

00:51:18   together but I imagine a lot of the crab [TS]

00:51:19   will disappear once they bring the [TS]

00:51:21   engineering people up and start not [TS]

00:51:23   talking about techie stuff the bash [TS]

00:51:26   I don't know what it's not outdoors that [TS]

00:51:28   it's kinda nice when I was outdoors I [TS]

00:51:30   mean that they have weird food and the [TS]

00:51:32   band was kind of a mess because like [TS]

00:51:34   half the crowd repainted the banner half [TS]

00:51:36   will be trying to hear each other over [TS]

00:51:37   the sound of the band I mean that's I [TS]

00:51:38   think that's generous like this for me [TS]

00:51:40   like the bash it has always been [TS]

00:51:42   uncomfortable because you have a band on [TS]

00:51:46   one side and usually you know it's a [TS]

00:51:48   band that like the people they're [TS]

00:51:50   usually have heard of the band at least [TS]

00:51:52   many of them heard of the band or at [TS]

00:51:53   least they're popular song like that the [TS]

00:51:56   oh yeah i know that one song but its net [TS]

00:51:58   but the people who are there are not [TS]

00:52:01   there for the band [TS]

00:52:02   it's it's all that everybody see [TS]

00:52:04   attendees they're mostly to talk to each [TS]

00:52:06   other and so you have this band off on [TS]

00:52:09   one side playing on the stage playing [TS]

00:52:11   mostly to people's backs and there's [TS]

00:52:14   this huge like open area in front of the [TS]

00:52:17   stage where nobody wants to stand [TS]

00:52:18   because everyone's trying to get away [TS]

00:52:20   from the band's they can hear each other [TS]

00:52:22   talk to the band is playing to [TS]

00:52:25   effectively a bunch of people who would [TS]

00:52:27   rather they turn the volume down and [TS]

00:52:29   stop but it's it's a terrible gig for [TS]

00:52:33   the band like it is so awkward and I [TS]

00:52:35   feel so bad like like that the band like [TS]

00:52:37   that will finish the song and there will [TS]

00:52:39   be literally like four people near them [TS]

00:52:41   clapping and everyone else just like [TS]

00:52:42   dead [TS]

00:52:43   silently it's not that bad sometimes [TS]

00:52:44   probably as little a little group of [TS]

00:52:47   fans who are closed five actually into [TS]

00:52:48   it i mean like at the band is a separate [TS]

00:52:51   thing but like I feel like the people [TS]

00:52:52   who are not therefore the band their [TS]

00:52:53   needs are not serve much better than the [TS]

00:52:55   band I think about it being in the [TS]

00:52:57   program auditorium if there's going to [TS]

00:52:59   be a band there's nobody to run from [TS]

00:53:01   that band there's nowhere to hide like [TS]

00:53:02   you just getting here [TS]

00:53:03   that's why I like I'm curious about this [TS]

00:53:05   because it sounds like that would make [TS]

00:53:06   all the problems worse [TS]

00:53:07   yeah well no it would not eliminate the [TS]

00:53:09   problem in terms of if the only reason [TS]

00:53:11   you would possibly go to it is if you [TS]

00:53:12   want to see the band because you're not [TS]

00:53:13   gonna be able to have any discussion [TS]

00:53:14   with anybody in the giant auditorium [TS]

00:53:16   with huge sound system is that it's like [TS]

00:53:17   when you to play dinner watch events [TS]

00:53:19   like people were having conversations in [TS]

00:53:20   the bathroom you couldn't hear yourself [TS]

00:53:22   think [TS]

00:53:22   yeah I don't know we'll see how it goes [TS]

00:53:23   i would how great would it be if the [TS]

00:53:25   band was you too and they only played [TS]

00:53:28   songs of innocence [TS]

00:53:29   that's not a bad album you know first of [TS]

00:53:32   all back not know how to feel like dates [TS]

00:53:34   the single videos to play off of the [TS]

00:53:36   watch event you know not the best on [TS]

00:53:38   anyway it's not gonna be you two again [TS]

00:53:40   but if it was I would go wow I didn't [TS]

00:53:44   even go to the bash last year yeah I [TS]

00:53:46   don't think I've seen you there in [TS]

00:53:47   several years now [TS]

00:53:48   now you have a conflict with other with [TS]

00:53:50   other things and but you know I i have [TS]

00:53:51   the time i got the best i have enjoyed [TS]

00:53:53   it we can hit way in the back and you go [TS]

00:53:55   from circle of people to circle of [TS]

00:53:56   people and yell really loud and so your [TS]

00:53:58   voices don't give up but it's like it's [TS]

00:53:59   the one time I feel like I get to see [TS]

00:54:01   everybody because everybody you know all [TS]

00:54:03   the people i know are hiding in the back [TS]

00:54:05   in little clusters and I can't find the [TS]

00:54:07   words during the conference if you [TS]

00:54:08   happen to pick the same session of [TS]

00:54:09   somebody you see where they're sitting [TS]

00:54:10   you can talk to them briefly before [TS]

00:54:11   after but the batches you know it's a [TS]

00:54:13   gathering of people and it's like the [TS]

00:54:15   end of the conference and I have fond [TS]

00:54:17   memories of the few years that I that I [TS]

00:54:19   went there it's just not not ideal for [TS]

00:54:22   the purpose that I would like to use it [TS]

00:54:24   for it and that's what I think that's [TS]

00:54:25   like what most like I think most people [TS]

00:54:28   are there to socialize they're not there [TS]

00:54:29   to see a band it and you're away was [TS]

00:54:31   already like it was crowded in there [TS]

00:54:34   like even like trying to walk through [TS]

00:54:36   and just like get from one side to the [TS]

00:54:38   other or to get to the food things or to [TS]

00:54:41   you know did it to leave or to end her [TS]

00:54:43   you were going [TS]

00:54:44   it was such a crowd it was like walking [TS]

00:54:45   through Times Square like it's you're [TS]

00:54:47   like trying to wait between people like [TS]

00:54:49   we've really it was always very densely [TS]

00:54:51   packed least in recent years just look [TS]

00:54:53   for Craig Hockenberry his head and now [TS]

00:54:55   get something that's so true for those [TS]

00:54:59   who don't know Craig Hockenberry is [TS]

00:55:01   approximately 13 feet tall about that [TS]

00:55:03   so the mash is going to be a program i [TS]

00:55:05   don't know III that's a weird setup like [TS]

00:55:08   you guys said and I do feel for the [TS]

00:55:09   bands to play the best because i usually [TS]

00:55:11   whether or not you like the music [TS]

00:55:13   generally speaking the bands are good [TS]

00:55:15   and they're typically up-and-coming [TS]

00:55:16   bands but just like Marco said it's the [TS]

00:55:18   worst thing in the world because at [TS]

00:55:19   least half if not three quarters of the [TS]

00:55:22   of the audience has their back to you [TS]

00:55:24   because they are not paying attention to [TS]

00:55:26   you at all they just want to talk and [TS]

00:55:27   god I feel for them it was a lottery [TS]

00:55:29   again this year obviously I have very [TS]

00:55:31   mixed feelings about well no I don't [TS]

00:55:32   have mixed feelings about it i'm very [TS]

00:55:33   sad at the way the lottery turned out [TS]

00:55:35   selfishly speaking but i just got it [TS]

00:55:37   seriously [TS]

00:55:39   yeah I just got the you know oh so you [TS]

00:55:41   told you [TS]

00:55:42   25th you have until nothing for me sorry [TS]

00:55:45   Casey [TS]

00:55:45   that's okay so yeah so the lottery [TS]

00:55:49   generally speaking I think I I'm pretty [TS]

00:55:52   heavily in favor of it it's the least [TS]

00:55:55   crappy alternative i think that we have [TS]

00:55:59   and we talked about this [TS]

00:56:01   around a year ago I don't think I'm [TS]

00:56:04   gonna spend the time to take out what [TS]

00:56:05   episode are episodes that were it wasn't [TS]

00:56:07   the show notes might have even been two [TS]

00:56:08   years ago when this was a new thing but [TS]

00:56:09   anyways I do think even as someone who [TS]

00:56:14   has as we record now and still does not [TS]

00:56:16   have a ticket i do think it's the most [TS]

00:56:19   fair way of doing things and i am in [TS]

00:56:21   support of it because even though i [TS]

00:56:23   appreciated being johnny-on-the-spot [TS]

00:56:25   when back when there was at least a [TS]

00:56:27   moment to 2i to order [TS]

00:56:30   I just laugh because the right one ever [TS]

00:56:33   hear anybody say johnny-on-the-spot I [TS]

00:56:36   can only think of the brand of portable [TS]

00:56:39   toilet of that name that was all over my [TS]

00:56:41   baseball field of my youth [TS]

00:56:43   ok I don't even know what to make of [TS]

00:56:45   that [TS]

00:56:46   so when you say i was driving the spot [TS]

00:56:48   like no that's not what that's not now I [TS]

00:56:50   perceive that frees yeah well in any [TS]

00:56:54   case i was very quick to order ticket [TS]

00:56:57   back when back when you had some amount [TS]

00:57:00   of control over over such things and [TS]

00:57:04   I do think that in the grand scheme of [TS]

00:57:06   things the lottery is the best way to do [TS]

00:57:07   it one of the idea that i heard about [TS]

00:57:09   Billy Graham being a larger venue is [TS]

00:57:11   that they are anticipating a fall-off in [TS]

00:57:16   terms of attendance and potentially [TS]

00:57:18   could invite more people i have no idea [TS]

00:57:20   if this is true but this is a theory [TS]

00:57:21   that I heard like so say they can invite [TS]

00:57:22   5,000 people that's what Moscow knee [TS]

00:57:24   holds 5,000 people go to the keynote [TS]

00:57:26   instead of the Union and then the next [TS]

00:57:28   day comes and 4,000 people show up to go [TS]

00:57:31   two sessions for the rest of the week [TS]

00:57:32   right [TS]

00:57:33   so if you have a larger venue for Billy [TS]

00:57:35   Graham you could have for the keynote [TS]

00:57:37   you could have invited more people and [TS]

00:57:40   expect kind of like how you expect like [TS]

00:57:41   no shows or whatever get a restaurant [TS]

00:57:44   reservations like essentially over [TS]

00:57:45   booked it to account for the fact that a [TS]

00:57:49   lot of people just gonna go to the first [TS]

00:57:50   day's festivities and will not appear [TS]

00:57:51   every single day for the rest of the [TS]

00:57:53   conference that is a theory i heard I [TS]

00:57:55   don't put much stock in it but is [TS]

00:57:57   another potential benefit with getting [TS]

00:57:59   back to the lottery like how do you deal [TS]

00:58:00   with the fact that more people want to [TS]

00:58:02   come then can go you can move it to a [TS]

00:58:03   different city to a bigger venue can use [TS]

00:58:05   more Moscow knee maybe this like a weird [TS]

00:58:08   hybrid solution will say also i think it [TS]

00:58:11   so Billy Graham vs bill graham i assume [TS]

00:58:15   this is different right as you keep [TS]

00:58:17   saying Billy Graham that's very [TS]

00:58:19   different [TS]

00:58:20   I think this is I this is somebody else [TS]

00:58:22   right yeah I'm miss speaking in my [TS]

00:58:24   typical way please PLEASE autocorrect [TS]

00:58:26   what I'm saying to the place where the [TS]

00:58:28   w3c keynote is being held if I had said [TS]

00:58:30   the wrong place just pretend i didn't [TS]

00:58:32   say that pretend I said the right thing [TS]

00:58:34   it appears that bill graham was a [TS]

00:58:35   concert promoter and that's probably who [TS]

00:58:38   the state who the auditorium was named [TS]

00:58:40   after right and then Billy Graham is it [TS]

00:58:43   was not a concert with friends go call [TS]

00:58:46   them Billy you don't know [TS]

00:58:47   oh goodness ok not even know where to go [TS]

00:58:51   from here [TS]

00:58:52   in any case the other thing that was [TS]

00:58:55   interesting was i don't recall how this [TS]

00:58:58   was last year because i did get a ticket [TS]

00:59:01   last year but I'll find out this year [TS]

00:59:03   check your email i don't know just keep [TS]

00:59:05   hitting refresh yeah that's totally [TS]

00:59:06   gonna work [TS]

00:59:07   I it makes you feel better i also got [TS]

00:59:09   the email from Tesla advertising all the [TS]

00:59:10   new features of the model s that my car [TS]

00:59:12   doesn't have that makes me feel [TS]

00:59:13   marginally better but I'm they're going [TS]

00:59:16   to be broadcasting live [TS]

00:59:17   actually let me read the quote from the [TS]

00:59:19   website we will be live streaming [TS]

00:59:21   sessions daily and posting videos of all [TS]

00:59:24   our sessions throughout the week at the [TS]

00:59:25   conference did they live stream anything [TS]

00:59:27   other than like monday last year I had [TS]

00:59:29   thought they were very very quick on the [TS]

00:59:31   turnaround but i don't recall them live [TS]

00:59:34   streaming regular sessions is that true [TS]

00:59:36   or live streaming that means that [TS]

00:59:38   they've opened or two streakers that [TS]

00:59:44   offers around the world are watching [TS]

00:59:46   learning about core foundation and then [TS]

00:59:47   all of a sudden from the corner runs [TS]

00:59:50   right across the state and never got [TS]

00:59:52   over either was that guy english haha i [TS]

00:59:59   love [TS]

00:59:59   love [TS]

01:00:00   all the other people who have seen you [TS]

01:00:02   know comment on the fact they're live [TS]

01:00:04   streaming this year this cot this [TS]

01:00:06   concern is unique to you John [TS]

01:00:09   well now it's kind of like the same way [TS]

01:00:11   that they got rid of the Q&A meant that [TS]

01:00:12   used to be the end of Q&A and they got [TS]

01:00:15   rid of that for which is not [TS]

01:00:16   constructive use of everyone's tongue [TS]

01:00:17   was terrible because you know [TS]

01:00:19   accumulator like but on the other hand [TS]

01:00:20   sometimes you got some amusing or [TS]

01:00:23   interesting questions there was the time [TS]

01:00:25   they bailed on the Q&A about the app [TS]

01:00:26   store because people really angry and [TS]

01:00:28   they didn't want to deal with that so [TS]

01:00:29   they just ended and cute you know so [TS]

01:00:31   like Q&A is another example where you [TS]

01:00:33   don't know what you're gonna get you [TS]

01:00:34   have a prepared a presentation and you [TS]

01:00:37   give it and then anything can happen and [TS]

01:00:39   when you're there WC sometimes people [TS]

01:00:41   yell something out from the audience [TS]

01:00:43   that's funny that doesn't make it into [TS]

01:00:44   the video because they edited out or [TS]

01:00:46   they added out the little aside and [TS]

01:00:47   usually people being excited about a new [TS]

01:00:49   API or new parameter or something very [TS]

01:00:51   like that this is one of the unique [TS]

01:00:53   benefits of being there in person anyway [TS]

01:00:55   they live stream it and someone was to [TS]

01:00:56   yell something out in the audience are [TS]

01:00:58   then that would make the live stream but [TS]

01:01:01   probably not to the record one that they [TS]

01:01:02   had it down [TS]

01:01:03   oh def mean like the recorded ones they [TS]

01:01:05   entered out like applause and laughter [TS]

01:01:06   and like any little tiny slip-up they [TS]

01:01:09   added that out to the the record ones [TS]

01:01:12   they are extremely unfun no i agree on [TS]

01:01:17   anything else on webc enjoy you too [TS]

01:01:21   you're gonna get in plenty of time you [TS]

01:01:23   got three days casey three whole days [TS]

01:01:25   for Apple PR to listen to this podcast [TS]

01:01:27   yeah sure you all Apple PR wants to do [TS]

01:01:31   is listen the Act accidental text [TS]

01:01:32   broadcast that's that's how they spend [TS]

01:01:34   their saturday only doing what else have [TS]

01:01:35   to do with their time well actually it's [TS]

01:01:37   not even be released yet market releases [TS]

01:01:39   tomorrow give me a chance here [TS]

01:01:40   okay I'm just kidding [TS]

01:01:43   we are also sponsored tonight by ring [TS]

01:01:46   the ring video doorbell to ring dot com [TS]

01:01:49   / ATP to see the ring video doorbell now [TS]

01:01:51   video door bells are pretty cool gadgets [TS]

01:01:54   and there's lots of reasons to have them [TS]

01:01:55   for convenience of course you know [TS]

01:01:57   there's you can see who's at your door [TS]

01:01:59   you can respond and what's really cool [TS]

01:02:00   is there's advanced motion detection [TS]

01:02:02   here this alerts you whether or not [TS]

01:02:05   somebody actually rings the doorbell or [TS]

01:02:07   not if they're if there's just like a [TS]

01:02:08   person who walks up to your door ring [TS]

01:02:10   will alert you about that too it's like [TS]

01:02:12   caller ID for your house [TS]

01:02:13   no matter whether reasonable or not they [TS]

01:02:15   alert you to it and they also this is [TS]

01:02:18   the cool thing about this they alert you [TS]

01:02:19   regardless of whether your home or not [TS]

01:02:21   because it uses your phone in addition [TS]

01:02:24   to your actual doorbell like ringer [TS]

01:02:26   so if you're not home you still get [TS]

01:02:28   notified and you can respond through [TS]

01:02:31   two-way audio through the ring doorbell [TS]

01:02:33   so you can pretend like you're home [TS]

01:02:36   you can tell delivery person maybe leave [TS]

01:02:38   the package there you know whatever else [TS]

01:02:39   so the advantages here not only your [TS]

01:02:41   convenience but also safety for your [TS]

01:02:44   home in your possessions because ring is [TS]

01:02:46   found that over ninety-five percent of [TS]

01:02:49   home break-ins and burglaries happened [TS]

01:02:51   during the day and birthdays usually [TS]

01:02:53   start by reading your doorbell to see if [TS]

01:02:55   somebody's home and of course if they're [TS]

01:02:57   home you'd generally move on right [TS]

01:02:59   so with the ring video doorbell it can [TS]

01:03:01   actually be a security benefits not only [TS]

01:03:03   showing you when people walk up to your [TS]

01:03:04   door and having a record of that but [TS]

01:03:06   also it can help to her people first of [TS]

01:03:09   all they know they're being watched once [TS]

01:03:10   you respond and they'll think you're [TS]

01:03:12   home and so they'll move on and it can [TS]

01:03:15   really they've actually found in in [TS]

01:03:16   studies an end in test trials they've [TS]

01:03:19   actually found drops in breaking rates [TS]

01:03:21   when ring video doorbell Tsar installed [TS]

01:03:23   it's really quite effective at that [TS]

01:03:25   so in addition to all the incredible [TS]

01:03:27   convenience features of having a video [TS]

01:04:05   John while you're on vacation California [TS]

01:04:08   forgetting what reality was you bought [TS]

01:04:11   some new hardware i got to buy it in the [TS]

01:04:13   official apple store I don't know what [TS]

01:04:16   you call it it's the the one at one [TS]

01:04:17   infinite loop they have low apple store [TS]

01:04:19   their company store i'm i'm told that it [TS]

01:04:22   used to look very different but now it [TS]

01:04:23   just looks like a regular apple store [TS]

01:04:24   I think I used to have like racks of [TS]

01:04:26   clothes and stuff and you can buy like [TS]

01:04:27   like mugs and silly things like that i [TS]

01:04:30   don't know i never went to it is that [TS]

01:04:31   all gone i I've only seen the old one [TS]

01:04:33   and the new one the new one just looks [TS]

01:04:35   like an apple store it's a bunch of [TS]

01:04:36   tables got a big screen onto the walls [TS]

01:04:38   it really need everything with these [TS]

01:04:39   screens I don't know how they work it's [TS]

01:04:40   like a cloth type thing i said its rear [TS]

01:04:42   projection or something anyway can you [TS]

01:04:44   still buy t-shirts and stuff they do [TS]

01:04:47   have t-shirts there are displayed very [TS]

01:04:48   strangely that stretched over these [TS]

01:04:50   little rectangles so you can't tell that [TS]

01:04:52   their shirts you just have to assume [TS]

01:04:53   that the fabric stretches the rectangle [TS]

01:04:56   shape has sleeves and a place for your [TS]

01:04:57   head to come out and stuff but yeah you [TS]

01:05:00   can buy t-shirts and back someone I saw [TS]

01:05:02   someone there by a lot of t-shirts and [TS]

01:05:03   i'm just adding up how much the most [TS]

01:05:04   cost because each one of the teachers [TS]

01:05:06   surely like 30 bucks or something anyway [TS]

01:05:08   oh yeah they're not they're not well [TS]

01:05:09   priced i meant to buy it i buy something [TS]

01:05:12   before i left foot of the the date [TS]

01:05:15   approached you worried the shipping is [TS]

01:05:16   gonna come and you're gonna be on a plan [TS]

01:05:17   like you know what I'm going there [TS]

01:05:19   I'm i can just go to apple and get it so [TS]

01:05:22   i did i got myself a normal sized iPad [TS]

01:05:26   pro and a pencil and that the smart [TS]

01:05:29   cover and I got the back to silicone [TS]

01:05:31   cover thing as well and also got a [TS]

01:05:36   replacement ipad my son he got the air [TS]

01:05:39   this is combined birthday present with a [TS]

01:05:41   bunch of other things replacing his ipad [TS]

01:05:43   2 that he's destroyed utterly destroyed [TS]

01:05:45   so hopefully now that he's older and a [TS]

01:05:48   little bit wiser he will not only [TS]

01:05:50   destroy this ipad but will be a big [TS]

01:05:52   upgrade from his non retina iPad to that [TS]

01:05:54   he's been using the pro-am as you would [TS]

01:05:57   imagine upgrading from an ipad 3 is [TS]

01:05:59   fantastic [TS]

01:06:00   everything is fast and beautiful and the [TS]

01:06:03   screen is amazing i left true tone on [TS]

01:06:05   you know I tried a little demo that not [TS]

01:06:07   an off [TS]

01:06:08   I was worried that it would bother me [TS]

01:06:09   that I would notice but I don't and I [TS]

01:06:11   think it's great and I think that screen [TS]

01:06:13   is amazing and I'm really happy about it [TS]

01:06:14   the silicon back thing I don't know what [TS]

01:06:17   you call the case that's the only ? I [TS]

01:06:19   haven't on now only the back so it's not [TS]

01:06:21   the front the the smart cover i have on [TS]

01:06:23   the front the back and front fit [TS]

01:06:25   together really nicely but an image [TS]

01:06:28   looks neat when it's all closed up but [TS]

01:06:29   it makes it harder to open you have to [TS]

01:06:30   sort of find where the edges this [TS]

01:06:32   doesn't you know with put a smart cover [TS]

01:06:34   you can handle that smart cover thing [TS]

01:06:35   that I think everyone conscious [TS]

01:06:36   does where you you can slide out the [TS]

01:06:38   Smart Cover slightly to get it popping [TS]

01:06:40   off the edge of the ipad and pull it up [TS]

01:06:41   with your thumb you know i'm talking [TS]

01:06:42   about with the case the kind of seats [TS]

01:06:45   together it's a little bit harder to get [TS]

01:06:47   the edge and when you're holding it of [TS]

01:06:48   course is a little lip around the whole [TS]

01:06:50   thing and I'll of two minds on the lip [TS]

01:06:53   it is bad and that it's you know it's a [TS]

01:06:56   little Ridge where once it was smooth [TS]

01:06:58   but it is good coming from an ipad 3 and [TS]

01:07:00   that i wish the borders around the ipad [TS]

01:07:02   we're a little bit bigger for thumb [TS]

01:07:03   gripping and that little Ridge gives an [TS]

01:07:05   extra grip the area to make up for the [TS]

01:07:07   fact that the sides when held in [TS]

01:07:08   portrait orientation are not as wide and [TS]

01:07:12   also it doesn't like doesn't block the [TS]

01:07:13   speakers are a little holes in the case [TS]

01:07:14   for the four speakers to come out but i [TS]

01:07:16   wonder if it's affecting the audio [TS]

01:07:18   quality although the audio quality is so [TS]

01:07:20   again so much better than this stupid [TS]

01:07:22   one little tiny speaker on my bed three [TS]

01:07:23   god it's amazing i hardly recommend not [TS]

01:07:28   upgrading your iOS device for however [TS]

01:07:29   many years I kept that I've been great [TS]

01:07:31   because wow what a better [TS]

01:07:32   well you've also like like if you look [TS]

01:07:34   at the ipad lineup in retrospect they're [TS]

01:07:37   you know they're all pretty good like [TS]

01:07:39   there really weren't any like bad iPads [TS]

01:07:41   but if you had to pick one as the worst [TS]

01:07:43   ipad ever released its the ipad 3 i'm [TS]

01:07:46   going to the ipad for i think i've had [TS]

01:07:47   four is worse [TS]

01:07:48   this is why no more was that bad for was [TS]

01:07:50   the ipad 3 but with a faster processor [TS]

01:07:53   and the Lightning port right yeah but [TS]

01:07:55   you have to you have to wait later to [TS]

01:07:56   get that you got the ipad 3 was the [TS]

01:07:58   first reading the one you feel like I [TS]

01:08:00   waited as what i did i waited a really [TS]

01:08:01   long time I want to buy them when they [TS]

01:08:03   read that I thought it was red and the [TS]

01:08:04   four came out I didn't feel bad because [TS]

01:08:06   one came out there was slightly faster [TS]

01:08:07   and had a lightning poor I feel good [TS]

01:08:09   that I had the written one wall for the [TS]

01:08:10   three months that people were waiting [TS]

01:08:11   for the floor and the battery life has [TS]

01:08:13   been great and like any ipad 3 is it was [TS]

01:08:16   great ipad feel like it yes it was big [TS]

01:08:18   and it was hot but yeah but you know the [TS]

01:08:20   answer like none of the ipads have been [TS]

01:08:21   really bad but just like you know if you [TS]

01:08:23   had to pick one is the worst i think [TS]

01:08:25   everybody would agree ipad 3 was the [TS]

01:08:27   worst of these pretty good product i [TS]

01:08:30   would pick them the many with the two [TS]

01:08:32   internals and it was worse because I yet [TS]

01:08:34   you can't account for the time that it [TS]

01:08:35   was released the mini with the two [TS]

01:08:36   internals was released after the two but [TS]

01:08:38   it was a slow as the two and it was [TS]

01:08:40   non-retina and I think that was the dog [TS]

01:08:42   of the ipad line anyway I'm I've enjoyed [TS]

01:08:45   my ipad3 it served me well it's a [TS]

01:08:47   reasonable counter argument that serve [TS]

01:08:48   me well [TS]

01:08:49   but the I think this ipad is going to go [TS]

01:08:51   down as one of the really good ones [TS]

01:08:53   because it is it's very impressive and [TS]

01:08:55   it's a big step up from the other words [TS]

01:08:57   i'm really use the pencil yet so I don't [TS]

01:08:59   know I don't know what it wanted to use [TS]

01:09:00   the pencil for i'm debating trying to [TS]

01:09:03   use it for navigation now that all the [TS]

01:09:05   people fought for my right to use it [TS]

01:09:07   education all right well maybe I'll try [TS]

01:09:10   for that i just bought a bigger i have [TS]

01:09:12   used in the store everything and i was [TS]

01:09:13   like i just bought it because it [TS]

01:09:15   supports it and i'll surely find [TS]

01:09:16   something to do with it and if not I'll [TS]

01:09:18   have this need a little accessory [TS]

01:09:20   yeah I'm enjoying it out and what I [TS]

01:09:23   didn't enjoy was itunes nobody enjoys [TS]

01:09:25   itunes I brought my ipad3 with me on the [TS]

01:09:28   trip expecting to do it fully encrypted [TS]

01:09:32   itunes backup and then plug into ipad [TS]

01:09:34   and restore my encrypted itunes backup [TS]

01:09:36   onto it and so basically just what i had [TS]

01:09:38   in my bed 3 now is on my new iPad pro [TS]

01:09:41   that seems like it should work is work [TS]

01:09:44   for me in the past I did the backup from [TS]

01:09:46   the ipad 32 the computer that I brought [TS]

01:09:48   with me that worked fine and then I [TS]

01:09:50   tried to restore onto that pro and that [TS]

01:09:52   did not work fine [TS]

01:09:53   it would take a really long time halfway [TS]

01:09:55   through an error would occur then the [TS]

01:09:57   ipad pro would reboot and that tried [TS]

01:10:01   many different times in different [TS]

01:10:02   permutations across reboots restarting [TS]

01:10:05   both devices trying different techniques [TS]

01:10:07   to you know redoing the the backups I [TS]

01:10:09   mean it just never worked i spent many [TS]

01:10:12   many hours trying to get agents restore [TS]

01:10:14   into this i had to eventually resort to [TS]

01:10:16   an iCloud backup and everyone knows what [TS]

01:10:17   that's like you lose half your stuff [TS]

01:10:19   that you have there had to reach sign [TS]

01:10:21   into all my slack things you don't get [TS]

01:10:23   any of your password saves he has [TS]

01:10:24   re-enter all that information and it [TS]

01:10:26   takes a year in a day to put all your [TS]

01:10:27   apps back on so good old itunes screwed [TS]

01:10:31   me one last time and will continue to [TS]

01:10:33   because it like the next time i get an [TS]

01:10:34   iOS devices if I have a choice between [TS]

01:10:36   doing an encrypted back up and getting [TS]

01:10:38   all those things and doing it the iCloud [TS]

01:10:40   well with the current limitations i'll [TS]

01:10:41   still try the itunes way but agreed that [TS]

01:10:43   was not fun [TS]

01:10:44   well I'm glad you got the new hardware [TS]

01:10:46   and I'm glad you like it i mean you've [TS]

01:10:48   been waiting a long long time did you [TS]

01:10:49   get LTE i did on verizon or did you get [TS]

01:10:53   the Apple someone or you don't have a [TS]

01:10:54   choice when you buy you just say with [TS]

01:10:56   cellular and that's what you get you get [TS]

01:10:58   with cellular and so mine has cellular [TS]

01:11:01   and [TS]

01:11:01   during the setup was trying to tell me [TS]

01:11:03   hey hooked up to it but I'm not you know [TS]

01:11:05   oh add it to my verizon account when I [TS]

01:11:08   go [TS]

01:11:08   WABC which people asking why would you [TS]

01:11:11   bother doing that doesn't every place [TS]

01:11:12   has Wi-Fi and you have an iphone [TS]

01:11:14   everybody's does have Wi-Fi but Wi-Fi is [TS]

01:11:18   not made to support 3000 nerds with a [TS]

01:11:20   million devices and so the Wi-Fi is [TS]

01:11:22   usually not particularly healthy [TS]

01:11:24   tethering and my experience has not [TS]

01:11:27   worked particularly reliably the most [TS]

01:11:30   reliable way to get any kind of internet [TS]

01:11:32   access in the middle of moscone anyway [TS]

01:11:34   with a bunch of other nerds in my [TS]

01:11:35   experience has been verizon yeah I [TS]

01:11:39   couldn't agree with you more i bought [TS]

01:11:41   I've had I think for ipads and this last [TS]

01:11:44   the the prior one to this one and the [TS]

01:11:45   one I got for Christmas both minna have [TS]

01:11:48   been with cellular and I couldn't agree [TS]

01:11:52   with you more that that's the way to do [TS]

01:11:53   it in general I mean it is like a [TS]

01:11:55   hundred thirty dollars more money so it [TS]

01:11:57   is fairly expensive but i really prefer [TS]

01:11:59   to have an onboard cellular connection [TS]

01:12:02   if I so desire even in in general just [TS]

01:12:05   at even outside wEDC and then when [TS]

01:12:07   you're in WWDC holy crap it's so much [TS]

01:12:11   better being on any cellular network [TS]

01:12:13   then it is being on the wEDC Wi-Fi [TS]

01:12:16   particularly keynote day but I'm not [TS]

01:12:18   gonna have to worry about that here [TS]

01:12:19   don't know that you don't know but also [TS]

01:12:23   like the in so many ways like it just [TS]

01:12:25   makes sense to kind of like bring your [TS]

01:12:28   own connection places like you not only [TS]

01:12:30   is it generally more consistent and more [TS]

01:12:32   reliable so it's also more secure like [TS]

01:12:35   you don't you don't have to join [TS]

01:12:36   somebody's crazy Wi-Fi lemme know if [TS]

01:12:37   using a VPN software that's a little bit [TS]

01:12:40   different but like most people and you [TS]

01:12:42   know we like to think that everything is [TS]

01:12:44   done over https but it's not still [TS]

01:12:46   there's still a lot of things that [TS]

01:12:47   aren't so I think for most people using [TS]

01:12:51   a tether connection is way more secure [TS]

01:12:53   than using some hotel Wi-Fi or something [TS]

01:12:57   yeah alrighty well any other thoughts a [TS]

01:13:00   new hardware my color choices for the [TS]

01:13:03   case for kind of difficult i'd i've been [TS]

01:13:05   going with kind of gray or black in the [TS]

01:13:07   past I almost did it again but decided [TS]

01:13:09   to go with midnight blue this time my [TS]

01:13:11   were several colors there were more [TS]

01:13:12   exciting i really do like the red [TS]

01:13:14   my life has claimed the red and so do to [TS]

01:13:16   avoid in-house confusion in-house iOS [TS]

01:13:19   device confusion i have been kicked out [TS]

01:13:21   of red which is going to whatever bye [TS]

01:13:23   I wish they would like a better blues [TS]

01:13:26   look more blue but I want with the [TS]

01:13:27   midnight blue so at least it's not black [TS]

01:13:29   I of course I got the space grey device [TS]

01:13:31   but you can't see any of the space gray [TS]

01:13:32   because it's all in the case now what [TS]

01:13:34   did you get the silicon case it seems so [TS]

01:13:36   peculiar to me I've never had a bad case [TS]

01:13:38   of any my iPads I don't need arises in [TS]

01:13:40   the first one but it's so so much [TS]

01:13:42   thinner nothing have had three as you [TS]

01:13:44   can imagine and I like the idea of a [TS]

01:13:46   little bit of extra protection and a [TS]

01:13:48   little bit of extra grip and so far i'm [TS]

01:13:49   like my problems are not around back my [TS]

01:13:52   problems are like the ridge and opening [TS]

01:13:54   it and i'll see if it annoys me I'll [TS]

01:13:55   take it off and you know lesson learned [TS]

01:13:57   but so far i'm keeping it in there and i [TS]

01:13:59   kind of like it [TS]

01:14:00   space grain front party in the back now [TS]

01:14:04   that's great the front you messed up [TS]

01:14:05   black in the front my god [TS]

01:14:10   well so I so I'm curious to know if you [TS]

01:14:13   if you if you're a beer person you have [TS]

01:14:15   undoubtedly heard from somebody who's [TS]

01:14:18   ever drank beer before that oh well you [TS]

01:14:20   have to go have guinness at the guinness [TS]

01:14:22   brewery in Ireland it's so much better [TS]

01:14:24   there and I honestly haven't done that I [TS]

01:14:28   think it's about the same then please [TS]

01:14:31   don't email me all of Ireland but I [TS]

01:14:35   wonder like should-should the ipad that [TS]

01:14:38   you buy at one infinite loop at the [TS]

01:14:40   company store should that be like a [TS]

01:14:42   little bit better than all the all the [TS]

01:14:44   ipad should be like should like you know [TS]

01:14:46   smell fresher or should be like five [TS]

01:14:48   percent faster probably do you feel like [TS]

01:14:51   you have gotten something special you [TS]

01:14:52   know this is the cpu and GPU is five [TS]

01:14:54   megahertz faster yeah yeah Lee didn't [TS]

01:14:57   tell you that my mind has four gigs of [TS]

01:14:58   ram [TS]

01:14:59   yeah no I think it's about the same and [TS]

01:15:03   the only difference is I think the apple [TS]

01:15:05   store was a little bit less crowded when [TS]

01:15:07   I went in like when I when I got in [TS]

01:15:09   there like wow this is actually a pretty [TS]

01:15:12   empty for apples over by the time I was [TS]

01:15:13   done with my transaction and picking [TS]

01:15:15   everything out and get everything [TS]

01:15:16   everything all packaged up that stores [TS]

01:15:18   mob so i think i just came before the [TS]

01:15:20   rush you a lot of times like that [TS]

01:15:22   they'll have like tour buses that stop [TS]

01:15:24   there [TS]

01:15:25   yeah I don't know what though I did see [TS]

01:15:26   a company tour [TS]

01:15:27   I got there was a bunch of people in [TS]

01:15:28   suits i think they were being led around [TS]

01:15:30   by someone from apple like we have them [TS]

01:15:32   at our place there with important people [TS]

01:15:33   come and they want to show them like on [TS]

01:15:35   a big tour and all the people are all [TS]

01:15:37   dressed up like their executives from [TS]

01:15:38   Southern other company so I saw one [TS]

01:15:40   group like that and then just a bunch of [TS]

01:15:41   other people that came in a big mob [TS]

01:15:43   after me [TS]

01:15:44   the other advantage is that the parking [TS]

01:15:46   lots of Apple are filled with [TS]

01:15:47   interesting cars both the visitor [TS]

01:15:48   parking lots and the employee parking [TS]

01:15:50   lots are filled much margin cars then [TS]

01:15:53   the natick mall sorry natick mall for [TS]

01:15:55   the chestnut [TS]

01:15:56   well yeah but like it lots and lots of [TS]

01:16:00   hybrids or electric vehicles [TS]

01:16:02   hey I one of the ones i did I think [TS]

01:16:04   you're going to show you that the hybrid [TS]

01:16:05   panamera no I don't think you did it [TS]

01:16:07   could have been one of those 260,000 [TS]

01:16:09   dollar models all black with fancy [TS]

01:16:11   wheels just tons of need cars [TS]

01:16:14   excellent yeah I've never been to an [TS]

01:16:16   infinite loop i have always had [TS]

01:16:19   something else to do [TS]

01:16:21   back when they used to do the buses at [TS]

01:16:23   WTC like not the official apple ones [TS]

01:16:25   like there was a an organization like a [TS]

01:16:28   group of people that would organize a [TS]

01:16:30   bus trip down to infinite loop and I [TS]

01:16:32   just to always had something else they [TS]

01:16:34   always visit with a with a good friend [TS]

01:16:36   of mine and so I've never ever ever been [TS]

01:16:39   and Marco you said you've been John [TS]

01:16:41   obviously just went and I'm kind of [TS]

01:16:42   jealous i'd like to see it sometime [TS]

01:16:44   especially before it goes away forever [TS]

01:16:45   was organized by friends everybody Jeff [TS]

01:16:48   lamarche mm not he organized those those [TS]

01:16:50   pilgrimage bus tours i don't know i [TS]

01:16:52   don't think he still does that but yeah [TS]

01:16:53   those are those are kind of fun [TS]

01:16:55   yeah it's not like it's going away but [TS]

01:16:56   once campus to opens up I imagine a lot [TS]

01:16:58   of the important things that are [TS]

01:16:59   currently one infinite loop will be [TS]

01:17:01   moved to campus to like Tim Cook's [TS]

01:17:02   offices somewhere there when infinite [TS]

01:17:04   loop and I so move hills will move to [TS]

01:17:06   campus to as well many other people [TS]

01:17:08   maybe the apple store move I don't know [TS]

01:17:09   but this is the last the last moments [TS]

01:17:11   that one infinite loop is the face of [TS]

01:17:13   Apple yep now hopefully get to see it [TS]

01:17:16   sometime [TS]

01:17:17   madewell potentially have a lot of free [TS]

01:17:19   time he tried to car and go check it out [TS]

01:17:23   say it again thanks a lot 43 sponsors [TS]

01:17:25   this week betterment ring and fracture [TS]

01:17:28   and we will see you next week [TS]

01:17:32   now the show is over they didn't even [TS]

01:17:36   mean to be in because it was accidental [TS]

01:17:39   death was accidental [TS]

01:17:42   John research Marco and Casey would like [TS]

01:17:48   because it was accidental was accidental [TS]

01:17:53   and you can find the show know today p [TS]

01:17:57   dot m and if twitter follow them [TS]

01:18:05   yes byl ISS so that's Casey list and a [TS]

01:18:10   co a RM Angie Marco Arment and our CC [TS]

01:18:17   Syracuse [TS]

01:18:30   did you reload your your email app i've [TS]

01:18:37   been i've been looking at my bank and [TS]

01:18:39   then telling myself you're just jinxing [TS]

01:18:41   it [TS]

01:18:41   stop looking waiting five minutes [TS]

01:18:43   looking again you're jinxing yourself [TS]

01:18:45   stop looking at my drinking yourself [TS]

01:18:48   stop drinking yourself exactly stop [TS]

01:18:50   hitting yourself stop jinxing yourself [TS]

01:18:51   to stop all the things and now [TS]

01:18:53   no dice said casey sad so if you want to [TS]

01:18:57   have a bit of a neutral if we almost [TS]

01:18:59   have something else to talk about and [TS]

01:19:00   talking about my bagel most oh yeah [TS]

01:19:03   deval yeah so we have to cover your [TS]

01:19:05   bagel post so John you blog for the [TS]

01:19:08   first time in how long [TS]

01:19:10   over a year slightly over here okay the [TS]

01:19:13   content of your blog post is a bulleted [TS]

01:19:18   list can you explain this blog post [TS]

01:19:20   please [TS]

01:19:21   so on this podcast it's not called [TS]

01:19:23   developing respective and not called [TS]

01:19:24   under the radar but it's called top for [TS]

01:19:26   some people one of whom is here and [TS]

01:19:29   talked about their top-four bagel [TS]

01:19:32   varieties or flavors and I listen to [TS]

01:19:35   this podcast on the way out of san [TS]

01:19:36   francisco i thought i had prepared [TS]

01:19:38   myself one person involved the podcast [TS]

01:19:43   grew up on Long Island like I did and [TS]

01:19:45   the other person was Marco but I thought [TS]

01:19:46   I felt like I was ready I was not ready [TS]

01:19:48   for the list that would appear and i [TS]

01:19:51   could not have predicted these lists [TS]

01:19:53   they were just more upsetting and [TS]

01:19:57   fantastical and uh unexpected that I [TS]

01:19:59   could have imagined i paid for the [TS]

01:20:01   in-flight Wi-Fi just like a complaint to [TS]

01:20:03   Marco directly about this pot I vowed [TS]

01:20:07   that when I got done with this vacation [TS]

01:20:08   I was going to blog again and what I was [TS]

01:20:11   going to blog was a list of canonical [TS]

01:20:13   bagel flavors and that's exactly what i [TS]

01:20:16   did i made a blog post that lists the [TS]

01:20:19   canonical bagel flavors and I feel like [TS]

01:20:21   this needed to be done for posterity the [TS]

01:20:25   google spider it [TS]

01:20:26   archive.org will archive it somewhere [TS]

01:20:28   that someday aliens will dig up our [TS]

01:20:31   civilization were long gone and finance [TS]

01:20:33   blog posts that it's synced to the point [TS]

01:20:35   not a lot of dancing around is just a [TS]

01:20:38   list the list the canonical big flavors [TS]

01:20:40   and I feel much better having done it [TS]

01:20:42   and yes it happens to be a better year [TS]

01:20:44   since [TS]

01:20:44   this time yes so obviously i have some [TS]

01:20:48   new pics here [TS]

01:20:49   the flavors you've listed are no are [TS]

01:20:51   noticeably missing some of the ones that [TS]

01:20:53   we mentioned during our show and there [TS]

01:20:55   are some that we even said berry [TS]

01:20:56   Michelle were not canonical old-school [TS]

01:20:58   battles like the asiago cheese bagel you [TS]

01:21:01   that's don't think you need to say [TS]

01:21:02   old-school here's I don't wanna put a [TS]

01:21:04   lot of commentary in this was I don't [TS]

01:21:06   think it's necessary for the post but [TS]

01:21:07   for the purposes of the podcast there is [TS]

01:21:09   a distinction made between this is not a [TS]

01:21:12   bagel forces this is a canonical bagel [TS]

01:21:15   flavor understand like the distinction [TS]

01:21:16   like the sort of uh you know what let's [TS]

01:21:21   make up [TS]

01:21:21   I'm trying to make up one that doesn't [TS]

01:21:22   actually exist and i'm going to succeed [TS]

01:21:24   but let's say the cheesecake bagel is [TS]

01:21:27   not a bagel guaranteed exist somewhere [TS]

01:21:29   in the Midwest I'm someone who's making [TS]

01:21:31   that right but there are bagels on this [TS]

01:21:33   list that are bagels that it was not [TS]

01:21:35   among the canonical bagel flavors there [TS]

01:21:37   were some difficult decisions to make [TS]

01:21:39   and I can i thought i was going around [TS]

01:21:40   this thing off and push came to shove I [TS]

01:21:42   had to make some very hard calls here [TS]

01:21:44   that some people are upset about and I [TS]

01:21:45   understand they're upset mr. the big one [TS]

01:21:48   I feel like is garlic garlic bagel is a [TS]

01:21:50   bagel right [TS]

01:21:51   oh yes oh yes missed it just missed also [TS]

01:21:54   some curious like you have obviously you [TS]

01:21:56   have playing papi says me everything [TS]

01:21:58   those 44 bagel places those are always [TS]

01:22:01   like the top for that that think that [TS]

01:22:04   they're always on your list [TS]

01:22:05   not on your list mr. asiago cheese so [TS]

01:22:08   those tips are by sales volume actually [TS]

01:22:10   I better serve cheese is up there for [TS]

01:22:12   four stores that do sell it especially [TS]

01:22:14   those in the Midwest but not a bagel by [TS]

01:22:16   the way I know it's still look so anyway [TS]

01:22:19   there are some inconsistencies that in [TS]

01:22:21   your list so obviously playing papi [TS]

01:22:24   sesame everything those have to be at [TS]

01:22:25   everybody go list for a forward because [TS]

01:22:27   just by sales volume people have voted [TS]

01:22:28   and that's what always gonna be that's [TS]

01:22:30   not without this works that was not work [TS]

01:22:32   by sales volume well but some curious [TS]

01:22:34   you've included onion and salt yes but [TS]

01:22:37   not garlic that seems inconsistent [TS]

01:22:39   that's right it's a tough call [TS]

01:22:41   here's the here's the there is a if you [TS]

01:22:43   go through this list is like a little [TS]

01:22:45   story right it's not it's an unordered [TS]

01:22:47   that's not well there it sits now UL [TS]

01:22:49   right is not OLTL right different never [TS]

01:22:52   listens there is an order [TS]

01:22:53   so I'm not playing is there but it's not [TS]

01:22:55   next to number one next to a bullet [TS]

01:22:56   point but this [TS]

01:22:57   reason it's at the top right it's you [TS]

01:22:59   start off and you feel like is you know [TS]

01:23:01   right plane papi sesame and i spent a [TS]

01:23:03   long time thinking about whether popular [TS]

01:23:05   sesame would come second right leg [TS]

01:23:08   cinnamon raisin which Marco keep [TS]

01:23:10   submitting for some strange reason [TS]

01:23:11   everything further down the list and and [TS]

01:23:14   forbye sales volume by the way I think I [TS]

01:23:15   think says me out that does papi that's [TS]

01:23:17   not as sales volume does not factor into [TS]

01:23:20   this i think she'll finally it would be [TS]

01:23:21   playing everything sesame papi [TS]

01:23:24   alright it depends on where where it's [TS]

01:23:26   being sold and who's buying alright so [TS]

01:23:28   cinnamon raisin heroes off a little bit [TS]

01:23:31   and then you've got everything you can [TS]

01:23:33   beg everything [TS]

01:23:34   why is everything why is everything even [TS]

01:23:37   on this list why is that lot next to egg [TS]

01:23:39   why is it under everything [TS]

01:23:41   why does cinnamon raisin come between it [TS]

01:23:43   i was going to nitpick your inclusion of [TS]

01:23:45   everything as well because I don't think [TS]

01:23:47   you're on a list that this restrictive [TS]

01:23:49   and this short I don't think everything [TS]

01:23:51   belongs on that list i know but like it [TS]

01:23:53   so here's the i spent a long time so the [TS]

01:23:55   whole vacation thinking about why is why [TS]

01:23:58   is everything listen garlic is not it [TS]

01:24:00   just this is what it comes down to these [TS]

01:24:02   are the canonical flavors garlic does [TS]

01:24:04   not make the cut everything does [TS]

01:24:06   everything is the most borderline if I [TS]

01:24:08   had to delete one I would really take [TS]

01:24:09   everything right [TS]

01:24:11   if I'd make a list one shorter but not [TS]

01:24:13   this is it [TS]

01:24:14   I mean he makes it Salt make it [TS]

01:24:16   pumpernickel people don't talk about [TS]

01:24:18   comfortable but it's there [TS]

01:24:19   I talked about pumpernickel you have [TS]

01:24:21   arrived which I said the Rye family of [TS]

01:24:24   flavors which included you can't like in [TS]

01:24:26   your typical water trying to pick 17 [TS]

01:24:27   different bagels for your ID number for [TS]

01:24:29   pumpernickel is a wry i know we get to [TS]

01:24:32   pick one [TS]

01:24:33   it includes rai marble and pumpernickel [TS]

01:24:35   in the pumper in the Rye family of [TS]

01:24:37   bagels because most places don't have [TS]

01:24:39   all three of those and so if i want that [TS]

01:24:41   i will pick whichever one of those they [TS]

01:24:44   have that looks the best [TS]

01:24:45   he also pick the one that you didn't [TS]

01:24:46   know the name of which was like the one [TS]

01:24:48   with oats on the outside that's brown [TS]

01:24:49   mhm yeah what is that called according [TS]

01:24:52   to you even though it isn't on this list [TS]

01:24:53   apparently unless it's called everything [TS]

01:24:55   is the reason is not listen doesn't have [TS]

01:24:57   a name some people call it a multigrain [TS]

01:24:59   some people call it like wheat or grain [TS]

01:25:01   like that it's not even know that's not [TS]

01:25:04   make the list does not make the list i [TS]

01:25:06   have a question what is it that makes [TS]

01:25:09   bagels in [TS]

01:25:10   New York and Montreal the Montreal is [TS]

01:25:13   loose definition bagel [TS]

01:25:14   what is the middle both of those what it [TS]

01:25:17   what is it that makes both of those [TS]

01:25:18   bagels so good I uh I I don't know I [TS]

01:25:25   that's this been a lot of research about [TS]

01:25:27   this of is that the water is it this [TS]

01:25:29   starter is it the what I think I mean [TS]

01:25:32   obviously the bases like cooking [TS]

01:25:33   techniques like you don't blow your [TS]

01:25:34   bagels you're not making bagels and that [TS]

01:25:36   just forget it [TS]

01:25:37   they're totally off the rails there but [TS]

01:25:38   I mean this recipe ingredients and [TS]

01:25:41   preparation and and caring about what [TS]

01:25:44   you make I mean like six about lenders [TS]

01:25:45   bagels like lenders bagels or [TS]

01:25:46   supermarket bagels it made in techniques [TS]

01:25:49   that I that I have to scale up the huge [TS]

01:25:52   volumes real bagels they make them in [TS]

01:25:54   the morning and you come and buy them [TS]

01:25:55   and as Mark pointed out on the show if [TS]

01:25:57   you come in the afternoon they're not as [TS]

01:25:58   good and that's just the kind of problem [TS]

01:26:00   is you're not going to ship it into [TS]

01:26:01   truck across the country frozen like [TS]

01:26:02   it's just it's not going to be the same [TS]

01:26:04   thing I don't know why Montreal has a [TS]

01:26:06   particular bagel culture but it's like [TS]

01:26:07   bread like why is bread good at some [TS]

01:26:09   places better why do you have like bad [TS]

01:26:10   supermarket bread and some bakeries have [TS]

01:26:12   really good bread and the bakery's have [TS]

01:26:14   really good read where you get that [TS]

01:26:15   bread and when you get the time of day [TS]

01:26:17   and they make it everyday and you know [TS]

01:26:19   that's what it comes down to [TS]

01:26:21   you're wrong alright here's the thing in [TS]

01:26:23   the chat room is wrong you're wrong i'm [TS]

01:26:24   really disappointed everyone though the [TS]

01:26:27   origins of bagels somewhat obscure says [TS]

01:26:29   the origin of truth wikipedia it is know [TS]

01:26:31   that they were widely consumed in [TS]

01:26:33   Eastern European European Jewish [TS]

01:26:34   communities from 17th century the reason [TS]

01:26:37   that New York bagels and Montreal [TS]

01:26:40   air-quote bagels air-quote are so good [TS]

01:26:42   is because of the significant Jewish [TS]

01:26:44   population both of those cities of the [TS]

01:26:47   three of us I think we can unequivocally [TS]

01:26:50   decide which one of us is the most [TS]

01:26:52   Jewish of the three of us and that is [TS]

01:26:54   yours truly and the fact that you two [TS]

01:26:56   are arguing about something that you are [TS]

01:26:58   completely unqualified to discuss I just [TS]

01:27:01   think it's hysterical [TS]

01:27:01   false you didn't grow up in new york new [TS]

01:27:03   york metro area nothing about really [TS]

01:27:05   Johnson really know nothing about [TS]

01:27:07   nothing common part of your genetics you [TS]

01:27:09   don't make bagels for a living and even [TS]

01:27:11   if you did you don't make them in new [TS]

01:27:12   york metro area people who no one would [TS]

01:27:15   know it from where they grow up with it [TS]

01:27:16   that's where the knowledge of the food [TS]

01:27:18   comes from and not from any sort of [TS]

01:27:20   not in your DNA and never mind like that [TS]

01:27:22   the Heritage's like me claiming to know [TS]

01:27:23   stuff about Italian food i know nothing [TS]

01:27:25   about time for never been to Italy I [TS]

01:27:26   know italian-american food because I'm [TS]

01:27:28   Italian American and those immigrants [TS]

01:27:30   came to where I grew up and they sold [TS]

01:27:32   food there and I am I fully expect the [TS]

01:27:35   new york metro area bagels had nothing [TS]

01:27:37   to do with whatever because you're [TS]

01:27:37   talking about in the 17th century from [TS]

01:27:39   Europe who knows what those realizing [TS]

01:27:40   all i knows what they're like in New [TS]

01:27:41   York metro area [TS]

01:27:42   John you forget that i spent a large [TS]

01:27:45   portion of my childhood either in new [TS]

01:27:47   york state or in Connecticut literally [TS]

01:27:49   so close to New York I could walk and [TS]

01:27:51   get there [TS]

01:27:52   that's how closely ya do ya uh-huh [TS]

01:27:54   that's what people who are not in the [TS]

01:27:56   new york metro area say about it I'm i [TS]

01:27:57   was in Connecticut that's like New York [TS]

01:27:59   we have Frank Pepe's just know so so two [TS]

01:28:03   things number one I think all of our [TS]

01:28:05   cultural backgrounds aside I think this [TS]

01:28:07   is one of those things where you have to [TS]

01:28:08   pull a gift / george lucas and just say [TS]

01:28:11   you know what [TS]

01:28:12   even though academically you should be [TS]

01:28:14   right on this you're not and secondly [TS]

01:28:16   only one of us still lives in New York [TS]

01:28:18   metro area [TS]

01:28:19   well Marco the only good lord over us [TS]

01:28:22   Marco is that you have access to good [TS]

01:28:23   bagels and I've been believe me I am [TS]

01:28:25   sufficiently jealous of that believe me [TS]

01:28:28   and sometimes when we discuss you know [TS]

01:28:31   like when you're talking about like what [TS]

01:28:32   marco would never move someplace other [TS]

01:28:34   than New York and I would say why would [TS]

01:28:35   he do that he would be leaving behind [TS]

01:28:37   pizza bagels why would he ever move i [TS]

01:28:39   would hate you so much have you ever [TS]

01:28:40   movies I feel like you're throwing it [TS]

01:28:41   away you've got it right there [TS]

01:28:43   you've got a house you get a Tesla got a [TS]

01:28:45   kid you got bagels and pizzas why would [TS]

01:28:47   you ever gonna all self-employment tax [TS]

01:28:49   while blood now just north of the bagels [TS]

01:28:51   there's a reason I still tolerate all of [TS]

01:28:53   New York's BS because i like a lot of [TS]

01:28:55   the stuff i believe in New York has no [TS]

01:28:58   shortage of BS and hostility that [TS]

01:29:00   encourages people to flee but those of [TS]

01:29:04   us who are still here which is one of us [TS]

01:29:07   are are are here for good reasons [TS]

01:29:11   good round multiple reasons to make it [TS]

01:29:14   so that no one listen to this podcast [TS]

01:29:15   that I could actually have to go to this [TS]

01:29:17   blog post after the list says also be [TS]

01:29:20   Ali's which I i have no problem [TS]

01:29:22   including bialys although i'm not sure i [TS]

01:29:25   would call the the bialy a bagel flavor [TS]

01:29:27   it's not it says also just as a separate [TS]

01:29:30   list also be Ali's yeah but the title [TS]

01:29:34   the entire post is canonical bagel [TS]

01:29:36   flavors and includes list and then it [TS]

01:29:38   says these are the canonical bail [TS]

01:29:39   flavors and give a listen this is also [TS]

01:29:40   be allies is trying to say also be [TS]

01:29:42   always exist and they are good [TS]

01:29:45   wow Mike and they are good although i'm [TS]

01:29:49   not so sure about your supermarket [TS]

01:29:50   bialys I feel like something is up here [TS]

01:29:51   you should next time you're here i'll [TS]

01:29:53   have you try one you can tell me how it [TS]

01:29:55   compares i have had be always from like [TS]

01:29:57   good bagel bakery stuff and they're good [TS]

01:29:59   too but the supermarket ones i think [TS]

01:30:01   it's just better if you don't from the [TS]

01:30:02   ones I've had now granted I haven't [TS]

01:30:04   looked very hard at like what's the best [TS]

01:30:06   bialy in westchester or the city i [TS]

01:30:08   haven't looked hard but to be honest [TS]

01:30:10   I've had a bagel places have not been [TS]

01:30:12   substantially better or better at all [TS]

01:30:14   then the ones i get from my local [TS]

01:30:16   grocery store now I i know that's [TS]

01:30:18   probably i'm probably missing something [TS]

01:30:19   big here because I shouldn't be the case [TS]

01:30:21   maybe they're buying them for my local [TS]

01:30:23   bagel place it could be the same you [TS]

01:30:24   have to know where their their source [TS]

01:30:25   from you could be the same thing could [TS]

01:30:27   be the bagel place the trip to the [TS]

01:30:28   supermarket and sells them but anyway [TS]

01:30:30   i'm i'm not a big fan of realities but I [TS]

01:30:33   always felt like we would get bagels [TS]

01:30:35   growing up we want to be always turning [TS]

01:30:38   they could even you know just it's just [TS]

01:30:40   in in the mix where do we go from here [TS]

01:30:43   I don't know how can we I mean could go [TS]

01:30:46   to margos thousand buy bagels or yeah [TS]

01:30:47   well I tell you what we're going to talk [TS]

01:30:52   about about the test i was in a test [TS]

01:30:53   earlier today [TS]

01:30:55   well I i just had a minor update but [TS]

01:30:57   it's not time sensitive soup so you can [TS]

01:30:59   you look let's hear about your time and [TS]

01:31:01   Tesla really was unintentional i went [TS]

01:31:04   from work to my favorite local barbecue [TS]

01:31:08   joint and then back and I was a [TS]

01:31:09   passenger but it was good [TS]

01:31:11   cool alright we're in the backseat [TS]

01:31:13   different seat [TS]

01:31:14   yeah I was I was I was in the front seat [TS]

01:31:16   I fiddled with the comically absurdly [TS]

01:31:18   ridiculously oversized touchscreen I [TS]

01:31:23   learned that Tesla has its own like [TS]

01:31:26   Pandora s service [TS]

01:31:28   well no it's slacker whatever it is ok i [TS]

01:31:31   learned the web browser is being used by [TS]

01:31:34   enterprising developers to make kind of [TS]

01:31:37   sort of third-party mega air quotes apps [TS]

01:31:39   mega air quotes of the browser's [TS]

01:31:41   terrible [TS]

01:31:42   yeah but i forget what underscore had on [TS]

01:31:44   his but it was something that like [TS]

01:31:45   integrated [TS]

01:31:47   traffic and issue reporting from ways [TS]

01:31:50   with the onboard GPS because it just [TS]

01:31:52   uses a the html5 location API and I i [TS]

01:31:56   don't recall exactly the URL wasn't [TS]

01:31:57   recall exactly what was called but it [TS]

01:31:59   would show a map with this stuff that [TS]

01:32:01   weighs reported in ways is very good [TS]

01:32:04   about having up-to-the-second accurate [TS]

01:32:06   reports on traffic conditions and [TS]

01:32:08   obstructions and police officers and [TS]

01:32:10   things of that nature [TS]

01:32:10   that's about so here he had that up on [TS]

01:32:12   his web browser while teaching have a [TS]

01:32:14   web browser up at all but when I was [TS]

01:32:15   fiddling with it while he was driving [TS]

01:32:17   that's the last thing it had up on his [TS]

01:32:19   web browser that was pretty neat notes [TS]

01:32:22   it's impressive actually I tried when I [TS]

01:32:24   when I first got it i'd actually tried [TS]

01:32:26   to see like can I use that as an [TS]

01:32:29   overcast interface and the the basic [TS]

01:32:32   answer is no because the that there is [TS]

01:32:35   no ability for the browser to play audio [TS]

01:32:36   friday i assumed for safety or DoD [TS]

01:32:40   regulations they disabled audio and [TS]

01:32:42   video elements from playing and the [TS]

01:32:44   built-in browser but video makes sense [TS]

01:32:46   audio I don't think does because there's [TS]

01:32:48   lots of other ways to play audio from [TS]

01:32:50   the internet in the Tesla so IRA enough [TS]

01:32:54   so what's your update so I i wanted to [TS]

01:32:56   to put somewhere and I was your blog [TS]

01:32:59   post or here and here is probably the [TS]

01:33:01   better place for it just the religiously [TS]

01:33:03   the sheer difference in how other people [TS]

01:33:07   seem to be perceiving me having a test [TS]

01:33:11   like people in the world my neighbors [TS]

01:33:14   things like that jet so you know coming [TS]

01:33:16   from a loud black sporty BMW to a silent [TS]

01:33:23   red environmental future car i feel like [TS]

01:33:28   the weight like so I know like I know [TS]

01:33:30   immediately like my neighbors and people [TS]

01:33:33   on the Block hated hearing my my loud [TS]

01:33:35   car and they probably thought I was a [TS]

01:33:37   jerk for driving it and even when I [TS]

01:33:39   wasn't going fast and like I was going [TS]

01:33:40   fast and and i would imagine that didn't [TS]

01:33:43   win me any favors around the block and [TS]

01:33:46   nobody ever commented like if we think [TS]

01:33:49   about getting out of the car or you know [TS]

01:33:51   somebody saw me like in it with the [TS]

01:33:53   windows down in the parking lot [TS]

01:33:54   nobody ever commented positively about [TS]

01:33:57   the BMW except occasionally like [TS]

01:34:00   some like dude in his twenties noise you [TS]

01:34:03   know something like that but that would [TS]

01:34:04   be a car guys guys look appreciatively I [TS]

01:34:07   wouldn't look appreciate the cars that I [TS]

01:34:09   say sure ya do I still but anyway but [TS]

01:34:12   people would make snarky comments about [TS]

01:34:15   the the about the loudest other whatever [TS]

01:34:18   absolutely yeah [TS]

01:34:19   neighbors and yeah like you know it was [TS]

01:34:21   it was noticed and was generally not [TS]

01:34:23   appreciated by many of the people around [TS]

01:34:25   and I just kind of like you just kind of [TS]

01:34:28   get the feel like people think I'm a [TS]

01:34:30   jerk by driving this car you know [TS]

01:34:32   because you kind of seem like a jerk if [TS]

01:34:34   you drive allow you doing the Tesla's [TS]

01:34:36   helping with that are hurting right so I [TS]

01:34:39   expected you know this might be you know [TS]

01:34:42   a little bit worse in some ways [TS]

01:34:44   especially cuz now it's bread what's [TS]

01:34:45   more it's kind of more in your face but [TS]

01:34:48   turns out the way people treat somebody [TS]

01:34:51   driving a red Tesla is way more positive [TS]

01:34:55   and the way they treat people who are [TS]

01:34:56   having a loud black BMW not so first of [TS]

01:35:00   all I have gotten so many questions from [TS]

01:35:04   people about it [TS]

01:35:05   this is this has been the biggest [TS]

01:35:06   mistake i want to talk about like the [TS]

01:35:08   the amount of questions have gotten has [TS]

01:35:10   been shocking and and most of the [TS]

01:35:13   questions are roughly in the same small [TS]

01:35:15   group of buckets but what's interesting [TS]

01:35:17   I think is just like when you're driving [TS]

01:35:19   a loud black sports car even in an area [TS]

01:35:22   like where I live there's lots of bmw's [TS]

01:35:23   but he even in an area with lots of lots [TS]

01:35:27   of other lab black sports cars and five [TS]

01:35:29   is not a sports car [TS]

01:35:30   point of order ok i am not sure I agree [TS]

01:35:33   with that but ok yeah you don't agree [TS]

01:35:35   with that empty m5 is not a sports car [TS]

01:35:37   sports sedan mm I don't agree method [TS]

01:35:41   yea tall coops cornered the market on [TS]

01:35:43   good cars and you guys can be happy to [TS]

01:35:45   be wrong is not a sports guy that's fine [TS]

01:35:47   but I tell you what whether or not it is [TS]

01:35:50   a sports car and I know Marco said this [TS]

01:35:51   but I i think i should double down on [TS]

01:35:53   this like it is really loud like [TS]

01:35:56   stunningly loud for a stock completely [TS]

01:35:59   unmodified car in you could absolutely [TS]

01:36:02   here Marco coming from several houses [TS]

01:36:04   away if not like a block schematic of [TS]

01:36:06   the block and that's not even [TS]

01:36:08   necessarily because he tends to drive [TS]

01:36:10   quickly just in general like if you've [TS]

01:36:13   heard allowed [TS]

01:36:14   hard you're thinking to yourself oh yeah [TS]

01:36:15   whatever i've heard about our they're [TS]

01:36:17   not that loud no really this thing is [TS]

01:36:19   very loud that imply was very very loud [TS]

01:36:23   i like that it made a good sound on the [TS]

01:36:25   outside help me too me too i'm not [TS]

01:36:27   complaining I'm not complaining at all [TS]

01:36:28   I'm just saying if you've never heard an [TS]

01:36:30   m5 it you'd be surprised about how loud [TS]

01:36:34   it is [TS]

01:36:34   yeah and all the M cars are tuned [TS]

01:36:36   specifically to be loud like the 1m was [TS]

01:36:38   that loud all the m3's are that loud [TS]

01:36:40   like it that's just it that's [TS]

01:36:42   intentional you know so anyway and and I [TS]

01:36:44   didn't you know I wouldn't choose that I [TS]

01:36:46   i didn't have it because it was loud i [TS]

01:36:48   had it because it was fast and just so [TS]

01:36:50   happened to get things that fast you had [TS]

01:36:51   to also get them loud because that's [TS]

01:36:53   just the way they were sold because most [TS]

01:36:54   people who buy them wanted to that lab [TS]

01:36:56   anyway so now I i have this silent car [TS]

01:37:00   that is i guess more friendly and so I'm [TS]

01:37:05   getting tons of compliments on it from [TS]

01:37:08   strangers often times are people who [TS]

01:37:10   have never comment about my car before I [TS]

01:37:12   like when i get out of parking lot of [TS]

01:37:14   questions from people like is that what [TS]

01:37:17   is that an electric is that is a Tesla [TS]

01:37:19   and so first of all Tesla has a level of [TS]

01:37:22   awareness in the public that I was it is [TS]

01:37:25   way higher than I expected it's almost [TS]

01:37:27   like an apple level of awareness like [TS]

01:37:28   the the amount of questioning I get and [TS]

01:37:31   the excitement people have over it is [TS]

01:37:32   almost like when you like when the [TS]

01:37:34   iphone first came out if you had the [TS]

01:37:36   very first iphone you have people like [TS]

01:37:38   people would / could like see you with [TS]

01:37:40   that like oh my god that the iphone and [TS]

01:37:42   start asking a couple questions about it [TS]

01:37:43   or they want to see it [TS]

01:37:44   that's how people are with the Tesla [TS]

01:37:46   everyone seems to know first of all that [TS]

01:37:49   there's a super fast one and so we have [TS]

01:37:51   can't say no I didn't get that one so [TS]

01:37:52   you know it's always the insane what no [TS]

01:37:54   i think it's the same one [TS]

01:37:55   it's still fast cards i think about it [TS]

01:37:57   and they'll how the mighty have fallen [TS]

01:38:00   I know right na and then everyone also [TS]

01:38:04   knows about autopilot like this and this [TS]

01:38:06   was just kind of surprised I didn't [TS]

01:38:07   think it made that big of a splash in or [TS]

01:38:09   whatever it was that big of a deal but [TS]

01:38:11   everyone's like just the one that can [TS]

01:38:12   steer itself and that you can these [TS]

01:38:14   really not necessarily like carner just [TS]

01:38:17   like regular people know and they're [TS]

01:38:19   asking about this and ask how do you how [TS]

01:38:21   does it go on the highway [TS]

01:38:22   can you fill it up you know like it and [TS]

01:38:24   some people as you know how it is there [TS]

01:38:26   also a gas engine [TS]

01:38:27   a lot so you know i'm just i'm doing a [TS]

01:38:29   lot of explaining and like I assume like [TS]

01:38:31   if you wanted people were like what the [TS]

01:38:33   first previous you know I i assume that [TS]

01:38:36   you got a lot of questioning their even [TS]

01:38:38   if you had like one of the first [TS]

01:38:39   electric vehicles that were that were [TS]

01:38:41   pure electric like like the like the [TS]

01:38:43   nissan leaf or something like I would [TS]

01:38:45   imagine you occasionally get questions [TS]

01:38:47   from somebody like if they saw you plug [TS]

01:38:49   it in and so they would that we could [TS]

01:38:51   call out that this is something [TS]

01:38:52   different but this is like when I'm just [TS]

01:38:55   driving around everyone just is really [TS]

01:38:58   curious about this car i'm getting so [TS]

01:38:59   many questions [TS]

01:39:00   the one thing that seems to blow [TS]

01:39:02   people's minds the most well two things [TS]

01:39:04   number one how much space there is [TS]

01:39:06   inside if they look inside number to the [TS]

01:39:08   big thing that blows everyone's mind is [TS]

01:39:10   that super chargers are free [TS]

01:39:13   mmm interesting the idea that idea you [TS]

01:39:16   know it's just like how like that i like [TS]

01:39:17   a things being free kind of like maple [TS]

01:39:19   brains explode like I'm witnessing that [TS]

01:39:21   whenever because it usually they'll [TS]

01:39:22   inevitably ask like those how do you do [TS]

01:39:24   how you doing on long highway drivers [TS]

01:39:26   can you do it and I'll also mention the [TS]

01:39:28   superchargers and they always ask her [TS]

01:39:30   how much does it cost to fill up at [TS]

01:39:32   those and so it's it's it's free it's [TS]

01:39:34   included and they're like what and they [TS]

01:39:37   cannot be like that blows their mind [TS]

01:39:39   that you can fill up 44 he even if it [TS]

01:39:42   takes 45 minutes like it blows their [TS]

01:39:44   mind that this is just free even though [TS]

01:39:46   you know if they charge for it would [TS]

01:39:48   probably be like two dollars you know it [TS]

01:39:50   wouldn't be a lot of money if they're [TS]

01:39:51   charging like whatever you know a fair [TS]

01:39:53   rate would be for that electricity but [TS]

01:39:55   just the idea that being free just blows [TS]

01:39:57   people's minds it's really interesting [TS]

01:39:58   and I've never gotten the level of like [TS]

01:40:02   strangers coming up to me about anything [TS]

01:40:04   that i have about this car [TS]

01:40:05   so did you sell some Tesla so do they [TS]

01:40:07   eventually ask you how much it costs and [TS]

01:40:09   then they run away i tend to not bring [TS]

01:40:11   up the cost and they don't either and so [TS]

01:40:14   I I you know and I'll and also a lot of [TS]

01:40:17   know but the model 3 a lot of them are [TS]

01:40:18   like oh yeah it is you know it i heard [TS]

01:40:21   about the new one to be a lot cheaper [TS]

01:40:22   and you so I'm telling you like the the [TS]

01:40:25   level of like awareness public awareness [TS]

01:40:28   and and public interest in this company [TS]

01:40:32   is way off the charts compared to what i [TS]

01:40:35   expected so how many how old are the [TS]

01:40:37   people who are asking these questions as [TS]

01:40:39   kids adults really old people [TS]

01:40:41   i mean i-i there aren't that many kids [TS]

01:40:43   in in this area honestly i would i would [TS]

01:40:45   set the table of the kids in there [TS]

01:40:47   no I well yeah but like so you say you [TS]

01:40:49   arrive to get chickens out of the [TS]

01:40:50   Lamborghini the five kids that are in [TS]

01:40:52   your town would be talking to you about [TS]

01:40:53   that car right [TS]

01:40:55   probably but but yeah I mean like it [TS]

01:40:57   most people asking our I'd say in their [TS]

01:40:59   40s to 60s that's like average sure [TS]

01:41:02   you'd expect to see just the people that [TS]

01:41:04   are there [TS]

01:41:04   I'm just want to give it interacts it [TS]

01:41:06   like the Tesla where nas's it's killing [TS]

01:41:08   young or old [TS]

01:41:09   i would say it's all over the map like [TS]

01:41:12   the electrician to read the day like [TS]

01:41:13   they know and obviously there they've [TS]

01:41:15   seen them before because they have [TS]

01:41:16   installed Tesla outlets for people [TS]

01:41:17   before but they were asking all sorts of [TS]

01:41:19   questions about it was it was an older [TS]

01:41:21   guy younger guy and win and like today [TS]

01:41:23   at the in the miners getting lunch today [TS]

01:41:26   one of the clerks at the post office who [TS]

01:41:29   i knew from going there every time she [TS]

01:41:30   was in the park like all my god that's [TS]

01:41:32   your car that's beautiful and she called [TS]

01:41:34   she called her husband out of her car to [TS]

01:41:36   come see it [TS]

01:41:37   everyone is so interested in this car [TS]

01:41:39   and it's not like this is not the first [TS]

01:41:42   test in my neighborhood there there's [TS]

01:41:44   there's at least four others that I see [TS]

01:41:46   you're on a regular basis so like it's [TS]

01:41:48   not and have for a while now so it's not [TS]

01:41:50   like it's especially liked the first one [TS]

01:41:53   that's been around how much of a factor [TS]

01:41:55   do you think the color is certainly [TS]

01:41:57   something you know because being a red [TS]

01:41:58   cup but it's not like you know there are [TS]

01:42:00   other red cars like it's it's there's [TS]

01:42:02   lots of other red cars in town it's not [TS]

01:42:05   like Ferrari red it's not like a bright [TS]

01:42:07   cherry it's kind of like a medium red [TS]

01:42:08   it's not like super intense it doesn't [TS]

01:42:11   seem like it would be that visually [TS]

01:42:13   catchy of a car like it it doesn't look [TS]

01:42:15   that unusual compared to other cars [TS]

01:42:17   speaking of unusual cars when I was out [TS]

01:42:19   in California I saw for the first time I [TS]

01:42:22   threes which are everywhere there and [TS]

01:42:24   are butt ugly [TS]

01:42:24   yes and the model x which are also over [TS]

01:42:27   there and are also butt-ugly i have not [TS]

01:42:28   seen an ex yet in person [TS]

01:42:30   there was a lot of them a lot of the [TS]

01:42:31   California do not like yeah I I can't [TS]

01:42:34   argue with that just ungainly i saw one [TS]

01:42:36   in white it was literally look like one [TS]

01:42:38   of those uh we call it the know those [TS]

01:42:43   whales that are white starts with a be [TS]

01:42:46   maybe chat room help me out [TS]

01:42:48   beluga cases BMW haha [TS]

01:42:51   I'm already hurt and you don't need to [TS]

01:42:53   stab me in the back to you know tough [TS]

01:42:57   crowd tonight I'm sorry about your white [TS]

01:42:59   color Casey I'm not sorry about my lack [TS]

01:43:02   of the ticket but I'm not sorry about my [TS]

01:43:03   white car should be an hour didn't look [TS]

01:43:06   like moby dick dick was firm well right [TS]

01:43:11   don't open it don't they say anything I [TS]

01:43:13   actually read any book i'm supposed to [TS]

01:43:14   read in school now I don't know do you [TS]

01:43:17   like Marco having these people come up [TS]

01:43:20   and ask you these questions like I [TS]

01:43:21   obviously there's times when it's [TS]

01:43:22   convenient times or where it isn't but [TS]

01:43:24   in the grand scheme of things do you [TS]

01:43:25   find it kinda neat or you kind of like [TS]

01:43:27   dudes leave me alone I don't mean so far [TS]

01:43:31   it's just kind of its novel you know [TS]

01:43:33   because I've never had anybody express [TS]

01:43:34   their kind of interest in the things i [TS]

01:43:36   was driving in the chicken salad parking [TS]

01:43:38   lot was going to print out laminated [TS]

01:43:40   cards to just hand the people could send [TS]

01:43:42   someone asked questions haha [TS]

01:43:43   here take this card here's an FAQ right [TS]

01:43:46   yeah so yeah I mean yeah ask me again in [TS]

01:43:50   a year might have gotten old by that [TS]

01:43:51   point but uh but now I so far it's it's [TS]

01:43:54   just kind of cool like I you know I mean [TS]

01:43:56   environmental people who drive fun car [TS]

01:43:58   to drive like you know like the first [TS]

01:43:59   Hyper's or the first TV so you know that [TS]

01:44:01   people have had these questions for [TS]

01:44:02   other owners before I've seen people [TS]

01:44:04   write about it and like it seems like [TS]

01:44:06   it's kind of like kind of a fun thing of [TS]

01:44:07   having these cars i think what surprises [TS]

01:44:09   me is that it's still going on and I [TS]

01:44:11   kind of thought we'd be past the stage [TS]

01:44:13   of these things would be novel but we're [TS]

01:44:15   not [TS]
