the incomparable number 237 mar 2015 we [TS]

began this journey in june of 2011 when [TS]

we watched a fine fine film called Star [TS]

Wars sometimes called star wars episode [TS]

for a new hope we conclude it now having [TS]

watched what is at least for now the [TS]

sixth and final star wars feature film [TS]

star wars episode 3 colon revenge of the [TS]

sith i believe i got the colon in the [TS]

right place that time I've gotten it [TS]

wrong everything holding is all over [TS]

  this movie [TS]

yeah so 2005 fine a film that exists for [TS]

only this is it we're here we're going [TS]

to talk about Star Wars Episode three [TS]

and then say no more about the prequels [TS]

evermore joining me on this journey as [TS]

many many of them have been here for the [TS]

entire journey and i will introduce them [TS]

  first [TS]

John siracusa hello want to go Jason go [TS]

serenity Caldwell hi there this is the [TS]

way Liberty dies Jason dan more'n hello [TS]

thus if they were avenging not good to [TS]

be here are one of our stalwart prequels [TS]

  visitors Steve lots [TS]

what up my youngs this is where the fun [TS]

  begins [TS]

this is this having fun begins I'm smart [TS]

and fun and then sort of semi [TS]

  constipated semi Pete away [TS]

well you know Steve you're so beautiful [TS]

but that's only because you're in love [TS]

this is the message of a treat [TS]

wait no that's a better movie and also [TS]

joining us is andy not co hello i just [TS]

wanted to make sure it was really dead [TS]

that's why I needed watch this is very [TS]

  very end [TS]

kill it with fire and we're tired of the [TS]

bodies and the headstones not just the [TS]

headstones nuke it from orbit the only [TS]

way to be sure ma so episode sorry [TS]

revenge of the sith I think we should [TS]

start as we always do by asking if [TS]

anybody has any opening statements [TS]

John in fact i do probably perhaps be [TS]

the last star wars opening statement cuz [TS]

i am I gonna have an opening statement [TS]

about episode 7 of course you will like [TS]

it will record right after we watch it I [TS]

don't know if all I did I did the math I [TS]

think we're probably gonna have to do [TS]

like 10 episodes about episode 17 span [TS]

of about we may do daily episodes in [TS]

December one of the might just be drawn [TS]

  Syracuse's opening statements episode [TS]

just like that one and then we'll move [TS]

on to the conversation later but I enjoy [TS]

having a newsreel 4 episode center this [TS]

is your daily news rail update of [TS]

episode 7 this is what John siracusa [TS]

feels about this on day five day yes [TS]

it's just like these movies we've [TS]

existed for so long that it [TS]

yeah I can have opening statements about [TS]

them because I've had a long time to [TS]

think about behind about episode 7 but [TS]

anyway here we go for this one so the [TS]

final movies in a trilogy they usually [TS]

have a couple of advantages I mean most [TS]

obviously you're anxious to find out how [TS]

  it all ends right [TS]

episode 3 of course is undercut here by [TS]

being part of a prequel trilogy we all [TS]

know how it's gonna end we know who [TS]

lives we know dies we know where [TS]

everybody ends up so that's kind of a [TS]

bummer for drama and this movie [TS]

ah the last movie trilogy also usually [TS]

benefits from having the audience be [TS]

familiar with and have some affection [TS]

for the characters episodes freeze [TS]

undercut here by the previous two movies [TS]

sort of failing to make these characters [TS]

into real people that we actually care [TS]

about i think this is also compounded by [TS]

the first movie using a child actor for [TS]

Anakin I which means we've only really [TS]

had one movie with this version of [TS]

mannequin and also by the way thing [TS]

about this its kind of damning that the [TS]

child Anakin and the adult Anakin seem [TS]

like such completely separate characters [TS]

like I don't even connect them at all in [TS]

my mind and I don't like either one of [TS]

  them anyway [TS]

well there's a connection ya know that [TS]

episode 3 has none of these advantages [TS]

that a final movie series usually has [TS]

and after two movies of treading water [TS]

on the question that should be [TS]

motivating the entire prequel trilogy [TS]

that is how did the good man whose looks [TS]

father become Darth Vader it can be [TS]

really hard for one movie 2 / to provide [TS]

a convincing answer that even the best [TS]

case and given this is the same group of [TS]

people who brought us the first two [TS]

prequels this is not the best-case [TS]

  that's worst-case [TS]

as I said in the episode to podcast i [TS]

initially held out hope that episode 2 [TS]

would sort of learned from the lessons [TS]

of episode 1 and take them to heart and [TS]

rise above episode 12 actually be a [TS]

semi-decent movie by the end of episode [TS]

2 i'd lost all hope and had begun to [TS]

think of the next movie and in series [TS]

under the title in which it is [TS]

permanently filed away in my mind [TS]

star wars episode 3 let's get this over [TS]

  with [TS]

so is it true that basically episode 3 [TS]

is legless armless on a lava flow while [TS]

you hold out your hand and beg for it [TS]

one last time to turn away from the [TS]

darkside with episode 3 was not supposed [TS]

to be the chosen I knew it would not be [TS]

chosen what I knew from the very [TS]

beginning I am picturing John yelling [TS]

that though we were friends we were [TS]

  brothers [TS]

hi Jason I've got an opening stage [TS]

alright Oh minor openings i know i'm [TS]

breaking tradition here but I'm gonna do [TS]

it because here's the thing that drives [TS]

me absolutely insane about episode 3 is [TS]

that there are hints of a potentially [TS]

good movie here which is to say well now [TS]

  hear me out [TS]

opening statement sorry I'm please play [TS]

the opening statement gambit here where [TS]

we can't stop her she is placed over the [TS]

night I know everybody's gonna talk over [TS]

me for like the second half pound is [TS]

happening now I'm taking it now [TS]

alright so the first two movies are crap [TS]

in all bought wide variety of different [TS]

ways that we have spoken up here but if [TS]

each of the first two movies there are [TS]

never scenes where I'm like yeah that [TS]

almost kind of works pretty much every [TS]

scene in the first two movies I'm like [TS]

no this is just this is just terrible [TS]

there's no there are no there's no [TS]

potential redeeming factor here the the [TS]

thing that drives me crazy about episode [TS]

  3 especially watch re-watching it i [TS]

rewatched it tonight after having two [TS]

thirds of the clone wars under my belt [TS]

the clone wars animated series is that [TS]

there is the potential for power here in [TS]

seeing how the Republic Falls not even [TS]

seeing how Anakin becomes Darth Vader [TS]

but in seeing how the Republic falls in [TS]

seeing how Palpatine basically engulfs [TS]

the entirety of the Senate and to a [TS]

certain extent seeing how Anakin false [TS]

and there are little bits like there are [TS]

there are bits of shining light in this [TS]

  mood [TS]

except as soon as the the door starts to [TS]

open and you were like maybe I'm in a [TS]

  good movie [TS]

it shuts closed and spent like there are [TS]

specific scenes which i'll probably [TS]

mentioned when once we go through the [TS]

the film where I'm like oh this actually [TS]

  has some emotional impact [TS]

oh I'm actually am i invested in this [TS]

movie here am i actually feeling [TS]

emotions and then as soon as I i get [TS]

that sort of glimmer of like oh I'm [TS]

actually invested in this movie the [TS]

movie reminds me just happy it is again [TS]

and that drives me so crazy I like oh I [TS]

can actually feel passion for know maybe [TS]

no maybe know and right at the end [TS]

no no not want interested in but side [TS]

note to people who listen to the show [TS]

life we are opening the no drinking game [TS]

so you take one shot or one beer every [TS]

time someone makes the no joke have a [TS]

lot of boosting but yeah i am i'm so [TS]

glad that i have a giant bottle of [TS]

  whiskey here [TS]

ya know i am no social yeah alright so [TS]

in in conclusion I everytime i watch [TS]

episode 3i get more and more frustrated [TS]

because there could have been a good [TS]

movie here they did learn a couple of [TS]

things from episode 1 episode 2 there [TS]

are scenes in here that almost works [TS]

there is one scene that I think actually [TS]

is perfectly sold in otherwise terribly [TS]

crappy movie and it just it infuriates [TS]

me especially when we have something as [TS]

good as the clone wars basically now [TS]

proceeding it all right any other [TS]

  opening statements [TS]

yeah i got a quick 1i think i said at [TS]

the tail end of the episode to podcast [TS]

that you should be excited for episode 3 [TS]

because this is the good one in case [TS]

that wasn't abundantly clear that was [TS]

just a joke and ok there is no good one [TS]

and if you accidentally thought that I [TS]

was serious and there was a good one and [TS]

you went and watched this film thinking [TS]

that perhaps that you would be in for a [TS]

decent film i am deeply and hardly sorry [TS]

ru ru revising your previous remarks [TS]

about episode 3 i'm clarifying is [TS]

obvious but sometimes you know it [TS]

entirely clear when I'm not being [TS]

  serious so sorry folks [TS]

yeah dan I was gonna mention so I i saw [TS]

this movie in the theater in 2005 which [TS]

I realizes is now 10 years ago I have [TS]

not seen it since then I'll and I know a [TS]

lot at the time as people have alluded [TS]

to it was kind of help that like alright [TS]

maybe this one will finally be good if [TS]

anybody again like Steve said if anybody [TS]

is laboring under that misapprehension I [TS]

would contend perhaps they have not seen [TS]

this movie in a while [TS]

in some ways episode 1 you know has the [TS]

the harshest time of it because it was [TS]

the one that was expected by this point [TS]

in the prequel trilogy the bar has been [TS]

set so episode 1i thinking in contrast [TS]

with episodes two and three in some ways [TS]

doesn't do is badly you know in the with [TS]

the benefit of hindsight because without [TS]

all that hype building it up over all [TS]

those years it's merely a really crappy [TS]

movie as opposed to being like a [TS]

  travesty episode 3 I don't think [TS]

necessarily has that it was not helped [TS]

in any way by that because you know by [TS]

the time it came out weird experience to [TS]

really crappy movies so if i had to pick [TS]

one of all three these movies to be the [TS]

best I would actually stabbed myself [TS]

because that is preferable none of these [TS]

are good so i will wrong argument i will [TS]

just say that I agree that the clone [TS]

wars TV show it shows a great example of [TS]

how this same automatic story could be [TS]

told much better and I'm will be glad to [TS]

see the end of this entire trilogy and [TS]

look forward to wiping the slate clean [TS]

i also have an opening statement oh my [TS]

god everybody this is the opening [TS]

  statement partisan will include [TS]

conversation but this is the opening [TS]

statement episode will record that a [TS]

lady please go ahead Andy well I just as [TS]

a teaser for a comment that might come [TS]

later in the show i have one very real [TS]

reason to be grateful to episode 3 but [TS]

let's leave that as a teaser for her for [TS]

later I will say that I semi enjoyed [TS]

episode 1 because i thought it had a [TS]

really great ending not just the fact [TS]

  that it ended and [TS]

knowing that there's going to be two [TS]

more movies after this and this is just [TS]

setting the stage I had faith through [TS]

episode 2 saying that well this is its [TS]

episode 2 so it is the middle part of [TS]

the trilogy it has to carry a lot of [TS]

water for the entire trilogy and set up [TS]

the finale the finale there i'm reminded [TS]

of a of a joke from pdq bach if you're [TS]

familiar with pdq bach that's a cake for [TS]

real composer who keeps pretending to [TS]

keep discovering lost works from a [TS]

really bad baroque composer and he says [TS]

every time we discover a new piece by [TS]

pdq bach it's always with a great sense [TS]

of anticipation because we feel like [TS]

this new piece can't possibly be as bad [TS]

as the others that we found and [TS]

nonetheless and so but it becomes it and [TS]

there's a ton of this is a point in the [TS]

car crash where you're just gonna have [TS]

to find some good to say that well I've [TS]

never had an airbag deployed before it [TS]

might be an interesting experience to [TS]

talk about later you may as well by the [TS]

third ticket i don't think it was as bad [TS]

as I I'm like damn like I think this is [TS]

must be the third time I've seen the [TS]

movie lifetime which is incredible to [TS]

for me to say about a Star Wars movie [TS]

it's not as bad as five years of hearing [TS]

people talk about the movie has set me [TS]

up for but it was still pretty not great [TS]

just add one thing the Andes point about [TS]

like not even see a long time I just [TS]

realize i saw episode one in the theater [TS]

in the first 24 hours more time and more [TS]

times than I've seen this intense [TS]

telling its tellin ya it is i can't i [TS]

can't remember anything like I could [TS]

remember half the scenes from this movie [TS]

and that should tell you something that [TS]

I remember the I've only seen this movie [TS]

this is the third or second and a half [TS]

time I've seen this movie because I [TS]

  attempted to watch this [TS]

I want to say in 2007 when I was stuck [TS]

in ithaca for a summer and i had i watch [TS]

the entirety of the matrix trilogy and [TS]

I'm like you know what I'm gonna I'm [TS]

gonna get through the prequels haha [TS]

I've recalibrated my sensor 20 by seeing [TS]

the entire matrix trilogy i can now [TS]

reevaluate was just like you know at the [TS]

matrix trilogy deeply flawed but you [TS]

know at least washable when you're stuck [TS]

  in a basement [TS]

were you thinking that was something [TS]

that was impact on my back in the box to [TS]

dip their did your father or the mob [TS]

  some money or something [TS]

unlike the prequels the matrix trilogy [TS]

does contain a good movie [TS]

yeah it does contain one good movie and [TS]

one-half arguably but yeah yeah yeah so [TS]

there's you know I'm like I have nowhere [TS]

else to go my car's broken i'm just [TS]

gonna I'm gonna watch terrible movies i [TS]

could not get through 10 minutes of this [TS]

film the only way I got through it [TS]

tonight was by watching it 2x speed [TS]

which by the way I actually recommend if [TS]

you're ever going to watch the prequels [TS]

  again [TS]

interesting I to have an opening remark [TS]

I know it's kyle i thought this would be [TS]

totally crazy for the hosts have an [TS]

opening statement then everybody did an [TS]

  opening statement [TS]

John siracusa has started a tradition [TS]

apparently my own statement i like damn [TS]

i want to say i have only seen this [TS]

movie before yesterday only seen it once [TS]

i saw it in the theater actually saw it [TS]

in the theater in boston massachusetts [TS]

where i was before the last I want to [TS]

say macworld expo I don't know if the [TS]

2005 macworld expo was the last one in [TS]

Boston but anyway I was there for that [TS]

and I had a free day and episode 3 came [TS]

out so I watched it and then never [TS]

watched it again and i think that is I [TS]

don't know whether it's a commentary on [TS]

the movie or on the prequels being kind [TS]

of this obligatory thing that leads to [TS]

like why I gotta see em all but then [TS]

once they're done I don't need to see [TS]

them again but I've revisited episode 1 [TS]

and even episode 2 cents a few times [TS]

episode 3 never I don't know what that [TS]

means my big statement we will [TS]

definitely talk about this some more is [TS]

i want to mention the plight of the [TS]

character of darth vader i refer you to [TS]

Darth Vader as the character from the [TS]

original trilogy not the character of [TS]

Anakin Skywalker who assumes the the [TS]

name Darth Vader midway through episode [TS]

3 we constantly assigned that [TS]

from apparently out of a hat I will you [TS]

know Taranis that was Vader's the name [TS]

midi-chlorians told him terrenas and [TS]

Plagueis and I insidious so insidious [TS]

and the rest were taken so the next one [TS]

in the dimness like thesaurus is data I [TS]

guess is there a Darth gumdrop over [TS]

there or did they just always just go to [TS]

that same section of the dictionary drop [TS]

was not the most successful set it turns [TS]

out he darted bad stuff Lance yeah yeah [TS]

Darth fighting guy so I mentioned Darth [TS]

Vader because I feel like one of the [TS]

core problems with that I have with this [TS]

movie and with the entire prequel [TS]

trilogy is it's hard for me to connect [TS]

the Darth Vader we see in the original [TS]

trilogy with this character in this [TS]

  character [TS]

not only does not end up in a place that [TS]

I feel really connects to where Darth [TS]

Vader is in the in the original trilogy [TS]

but more to the point I feel like the [TS]

fall of Anakin Skywalker does not map to [TS]

who at who either Darth Vader is in the [TS]

original trilogy or who I choose to [TS]

believe Darth Vader is in the original [TS]

trilogy and I think that's a fundamental [TS]

problem with the prequels that is the [TS]

fundamental problem with episode 3 so [TS]

that's my kingdom by which you mean he's [TS]

not played by James Earl Jones sir james [TS]

  earl jones in there [TS]

  I just I i will I think we'll talk about [TS]

it more but I feel like mannequins [TS]

descent as we go through it is not [TS]

fitting of where Darth Vader ends up [TS]

  because it's really dumb [TS]

it's that it's not sensible in anyway [TS]

doctor is oscillating and evil and [TS]

Anakin Skywalker is just kind of a chump [TS]

but i will say as evil as as Vader is in [TS]

the original trilogy i had not [TS]

envisioned him slicing of a bunch of [TS]

kids in the prequel trilogy [TS]

well that's to show that he's really [TS]

evil Steve otherwise you would know I [TS]

don't like I would like to think that [TS]

Anakin makes a series of terrible [TS]

choices to take the cheap and easy way [TS]

towards whatever as opposed to know he [TS]

was just easily use very easily [TS]

  bamboozled by the sucker [TS]

he's a sucker it is not that bright no [TS]

  yeah that's right [TS]

typing the chosen answer but not that [TS]

bright you know in spaceballs when [TS]

  they're like [TS]

because good is dumb it turns out the [TS]

evil is also is dumb [TS]

alright should we should we recap this [TS]

movie should i watch likes him off [TS]

  already home [TS]

war war that's my heart like to what are [TS]

you doing I was right huh [TS]

absolutely nothing say it again least it [TS]

doesn't say taxation this time riding [TS]

anyone living or less than making access [TS]

ID make it let me scroll exciting what's [TS]

its water it's time we go to war [TS]

negotiations sure nothing is more [TS]

exciting than ! and we get one right off [TS]

the bat heated debate you gotta give it [TS]

  to him [TS]

they got they got the X ! in that I i [TS]

was going to say about this the thing [TS]

that bugs me about this is like one of [TS]

the like second lines or something is [TS]

there are heroes on both sides like know [TS]

there are there are there that earlier [TS]

of the war the other side is evil the [TS]

evil side doesn't get heroes those are [TS]

called villains George their villainous [TS]

right like they did they got off with [TS]

the war and then immediately sabotage [TS]

themselves with their heroes on both [TS]

  sides like wait what [TS]

like can't we just have a single black [TS]

and cool where everyone is awesome [TS]

watching this to get the sense that like [TS]

some of the people working on this we're [TS]

working off the script with the salmon [TS]

pages and the other people working on [TS]

this off the script the blue pages and [TS]

the people working out the script with [TS]

  yellow pages [TS]

it's a bit jumbled isn't it yeah but it [TS]

might give you something for me is our [TS]

is is the script does this scroll think [TS]

that the people reading the scroll don't [TS]

know that Palpatine is Darth Sidious [TS]

don't move the whole trilogy is kinda [TS]

predicated on that and get the whole [TS]

trilogy is predicated on people not [TS]

really realizing that which is [TS]

transparent from the beginning right but [TS]

like it was a third movie and they're [TS]

saying like opacity Chancellor Palpatine [TS]

was get like we're following is it isn't [TS]

a scroll talking to the audience we know [TS]

that he city is like why are you [TS]

pretending to make any sense well that's [TS]

the weird thing that you can learn from [TS]

those the clone wars thing not to drink [TS]

drank too much of that into it but like [TS]

nobody else aside from like Count Dooku [TS]

knows the dark cities and Chancellor [TS]

Palpatine are the same person so like [TS]

General Grievous in theory does not know [TS]

that which would make that interesting [TS]

but it's not communicated the movie [TS]

anywhere it is not nor nor are we really [TS]

dealing with the fact like Palpatine in [TS]

this movie and Palpatine throughout the [TS]

clone wars could have been perceived as [TS]

you know that Jedi mind trick that you [TS]

see in the original series where the [TS]

weak-willed can be controlled by [TS]

somebody with a stronger mind turns out [TS]

that's Palpatine's big power is that he [TS]

can control people who should not [TS]

otherwise be able to fall under the [TS]

control of Jedi mind tricks and if you [TS]

assume that a lot of things seem more [TS]

interesting that was work a lot better [TS]

yeah they were disgusting or if you [TS]

could do that to the audience I didn't [TS]

have to invent whole cloth that's that's [TS]

such a sign of a movie that's not [TS]

working when you find yourself writing a [TS]

better movie in its place [TS]

yeah that was doing that so often during [TS]

  this movie [TS]

yes and that's what frustrates me so the [TS]

cross suffers from a lot of the same [TS]

problem as the rest of the writing in [TS]

this script which i will call [TS]

declarative sentence disease which is to [TS]

say every single line of dialogue is I [TS]

want this this is that that is this and [TS]

it's like all right so we don't know how [TS]

to write let me take a break and tell [TS]

you about Casper you've heard about them [TS]

here before I am a satisfied customer of [TS]

casper and let me tell you why [TS]

Casper's an online retailer of premium [TS]

mattresses are available for a fraction [TS]

  of the price [TS]

get away from the mattress industry with [TS]

  forcing customers into paying [TS]

notoriously hi markups these our tech [TS]

guys who are trying to revolutionize the [TS]

mattress industry by cutting the cost of [TS]

dealing with resellers and showrooms and [TS]

passing that savings on to you this is [TS]

an obsessively engineered mattress at a [TS]

really great price it offers just the [TS]

right sink just the right balance [TS]

because it's using two different [TS]

technologies there's a latex foam and [TS]

there's memory foam and they seamlessly [TS]

put them together and you end up with an [TS]

  amazing sleep experience [TS]

I'm not just reading ad copy when I tell [TS]

you this folks I sleep on Casper [TS]

mattress every night we have gotten rid [TS]

of our old mattress without a new bed [TS]

and we have our new Casper mattress it's [TS]

amazing what's even more amazing [TS]

risk-free trial try sleeping on a Casper [TS]

for up to 100 days there's free delivery [TS]

painless returns so you can try it out [TS]

and if you don't like this space-age [TS]

internet mattress you can return it it's [TS]

made in America $500 for a twin 954 a [TS]

  king [TS]

you could probably extrapolate the [TS]

  prices [TS]

between you compare that to the industry [TS]

averages that's actually a really really [TS]

good price so Casper it's a revolution a [TS]

revolution in construction in sales and [TS]

let me tell you it's a revelation huh [TS]

see what I did there it when you sleep [TS]

on it which I've been doing for the last [TS]

few months it's really great and I say [TS]

that there's nobody holding a gun to my [TS]

head when i tell you i really enjoy the [TS]

castro mattress I'm so glad that we got [TS]

it you should check it out you can get [TS]

fifty dollars toward any mattress [TS]

purchase by going here [TS] / incomparable I don't [TS]

know if you need the www not so you [TS]

could try Casper calm / and comfortable [TS]

see if that works too [TS]

importantly use promo code and [TS]

comfortable to get your fifty dollars [TS]

off that will let you know that we sent [TS]

you and thanks to Casper for sponsoring [TS]

the uncomfortable okay back to star wars [TS]

i am excited to have another big villain [TS]

introduced in the crawl that we neither [TS]

know nor care i'm doing better movie [TS]

interview indeed had also why did the [TS]

droids into a droid leader he's only [TS]

partially dried Steve not behind no [TS]

natural yeah I know yeah I'll its [TS]

organic which is also unclear his [TS]

wheezing lungs his heart and his I [TS]

George why does this robot have [TS]

emphysema you tellin you would you know [TS]

that if you saw the clone wars animated [TS]

  series [TS]

yeah how do we watch every inch counts [TS]

the clone wars animated series it was [TS]

clearly made by better people in this [TS]

  film [TS]

it's okay that we don't know why he [TS]

wheezes I said we didn't know why Darth [TS]

Vader result breathing and as master new [TS]

hope we're behind with it is confusing [TS]

because it's like is he a droid or a [TS]

cyborg or a person because why would a [TS]

drawing why would a droid cop there's a [TS]

  difference between breathing and [TS]

coughing and there's there is a bit [TS]

let's go to that the larger the larger [TS]

point is that like with Count Dooku we [TS]

are introduced to a major villain in the [TS]

movie with the kraal which is stupid and [TS]

that also we have the the inciting [TS]

action of the movie is the kidnapping of [TS]

the Chancellor which also of course [TS]

happens in text in the crawl rather than [TS]

seeing him so this kind of keys into the [TS]

word that comes to my mind most when [TS]

thinking about this movie and that is [TS]

unearned which is to say all these [TS]

things that happen are under and so for [TS]

example we get like the Jedi showing up [TS]

  to rescue Palpatine and [TS]

services like general Kenobi we meet [TS]

again we're like we don't know anything [TS]

about like we have no context for that [TS]

whatsoever like that does not exist so [TS]

that they're trying to bring up the sort [TS]

of like Oh they've had this game of cat [TS]

and mouse and they're like these [TS]

antagonists and embassies and it's like [TS]

but that's honored because we don't know [TS]

anything about that were just told that [TS]

it exists and in some cases not even [TS]

told that exists left to infer it so [TS]

there's a lot of clumsiness because a [TS]

lot of stuff that you were sort of [TS]

assumed to have known things this this [TS]

movie has a problem with having a lot of [TS]

texts no subtext and then like all this [TS]

stuff it assumes you know which is not [TS]

subtext it's like getting back to my [TS]

opening statement where like if you if [TS]

you had two movies is the last movie [TS]

you've got to care about these [TS]

characters but you can't have an opening [TS]

a movie that opens with a set piece with [TS]

the battle unless it's involving hey [TS]

it's your old friends again like I mean [TS]

opening return the Jedi it's your old [TS]

friends in the trying to get hot why do [TS]

you care about hot because there was two [TS]

other movies why do you care what ppl [TS]

rescuing because there's two other [TS]

movies like as opposed to oh it's these [TS]

two fools right like it like that huh [TS]

you get any it's not such a bad idea to [TS]

have an opening set piece with a space [TS]

battle but if it opens and you're like [TS]

final care about any people in space but [TS]

  I don't care about what they're doing i [TS]

don't care about what's at stake [TS]

  I don't care about like it's just it's [TS]

so hard to make a good third movie when [TS]

the first two were so terrible [TS]

unless you're gonna somehow make me love [TS]

these characters like you have to start [TS]

your starting from zero which is [TS]

terrible how can you start the third [TS]

movie from zero yeah and so here not to [TS]

talk about the clone wars too much but i [TS]

but i am going to bring it up because I [TS]

feel like it's relevant to this movie I [TS]

do kind of feel that a lot of what was [TS]

done in the Clone Wars was Lucasfilm and [TS]

probably Lucas to a lesser extent [TS]

realizing hey we have the potential for [TS]

like interesting things to happen in [TS]

this movie but we don't have anything [TS]

set up but no one cares [TS]

  there's no there's no conflict there's [TS]

no real resolution there's no excitement [TS]

so how about we fill in five seasons of [TS]

backstory to make people actually care [TS]

about those characters and like I really [TS]

do think there's a difference watching [TS]

the third film with knowledge of all of [TS]

the things that happen in the Clone Wars [TS]

and watching the film as most of us did [TS]

in the theater when the clone wars [TS]

  didn't exist because i like I I feel [TS]

like a lot of things like oh shoot [TS]

ok let's say you want to make the order [TS]

66 that much bigger betrayal skipping [TS]

you know just minor spoilers here [TS]

hey how about we make it commander cody [TS]

that sets everything off just with [TS]

people when you're watching this the [TS]

first time you're like that that whose [TS]

to the commander cody i don't care i'm [TS]

sorry I'm swearing like left and right [TS]

here but I feel like it's important but [TS]

yeah like this will make a great special [TS]

edition later I was kind of okay with [TS]

some of these appearances of some of [TS]

these characters because you can get too [TS]

bogged down by saying well everything [TS]

has to have a four-page long backstory [TS]

to it the the with one of these darts [TS]

really all you need you just need dougie [TS]

mcbadbat guy he's the guy is gonna fight [TS]

these obi-wan making sure that he's got [TS]

something distracted so he can't be with [TS]

Anakin a time when he's going to be very [TS]

  very vulnerable [TS]

  I don't really I i think it was a clumsy [TS]

thing to have so we meet again for the [TS]

last time for the first time but it's [TS]

like really that characters all about [TS]

well what if we make one if we have like [TS]

of say mostly robotic sixth floor that's [TS]

got like eight arms and 41 attachments [TS]

for his lightsabers and they'll go all [TS]

spinny and stabby sold don't waste time [TS]

on total give me his bro I don't need to [TS]

know what school he went from just show [TS]

me the spin east and west of the biggest [TS]

problem for things that are left out is [TS]

the same one that was for episode 2 [TS]

which is that there's this supposed [TS]

report and this Brotherhood Brotherhood [TS]

between obi-wan and Anakin and they're [TS]

all these great adventures they've gone [TS]

on and and fixes that Anakin's got no be [TS]

one out of and we hear about him and [TS]

they sound really cool but we don't get [TS]

to see that we can see them talk about [TS]

it in like short little clips i sat on [TS]

couch is a lot we saw that there were [TS]

here on the couch together we weren't [TS]

around someone's talking but I remember [TS]

that was two movies are those were good [TS]

  times [TS]

those are great tile that couch on 02 [TS]

reticular doesn't count that one that [TS]

  was an ottoman [TS]

so basically this is about the the [TS]

  corruption mannequin and occasional [TS]

  seating [TS]

yeah well we go back to the what made [TS]

the original trilogy successful the [TS]

original trilogy had many of these same [TS]

problems where it's like we don't you [TS]

know we we are too assuming that these [TS]

people have these adventures and these [TS]

people are fighting you know the [TS]

rebellion in between movies and all this [TS]

  crazy stuff has happened [TS]

but the report on screen is so good that [TS]

  we believe it [TS]

the difference is that interesting [TS]

things happened in those movies to know [TS]

interesting things happen in these they [TS]

were not sitting on the couch [TS]

they did not get eaten or attacked by a [TS]

wampa all of the interesting things [TS]

happen when we left the theater and went [TS]

  away for a year [TS]

yeah and when a movie is working you [TS]

don't notice these things it's really [TS]

between working and not working sir [TS]

although again with a third movie in a [TS]

in a in a series as John said you can [TS]

use the momentum that you've built up to [TS]

do shorthand to get PE audience invested [TS]

and you had a moment if Penn that's the [TS]

problem here is that we General Grievous [TS]

is a blank Count Dooku at least we [TS]

remember him from the last movie but [TS]

he's he's barely did anything in the [TS]

last minute he doesn't last long enough [TS]

and he doesn't last long in this movie [TS]

and there's this other coughing robot [TS]

that's happening with lots of collected [TS]

  lightsabers [TS]

um and so and so we don't see ya we we [TS]

don't have any of that momentum to use [TS]

here which is which is part of the [TS]

problem plus plus we know they're going [TS]

to rescue the bad guy [TS]

which means we know that this is all [TS]

addition the others don't need that the [TS]

funding the root problem of George Lucas [TS]

decided this was entirely going to be a [TS]

story about how Palpatine conned [TS]

everybody from the first you know ten [TS]

minutes of the Phantom Menace referring [TS]

to Palpatine essentially setting this [TS]

thing up this is the problem is that [TS]

it's all a sham and so as if you are I'm [TS]

like what you have it going to go save [TS]

Palpatine but it's always set up so you [TS]

  know I I don't even have a rooting [TS]

interest like I do it like yeah they're [TS]

gonna say hon that's good we like on [TS]

it's like oh they're gonna go say [TS]

Palpatine because its ground it's a [TS]

fundamentally the problem with this is [TS]

fundamentally lazy because it's relying [TS]

on the fact that we are you guys all of [TS]

  the episodes 4 5 & 6 right we're gonna [TS]

tell you the untold stories of how all [TS]

that came around but it turns out that [TS]

we're just going to connect the dots in [TS]

the most linear on surprising way that [TS]

we can think of just to get word [TS]

literally here to get from point A [TS]

Anakin Skywalker's a little kid to point [TS]

B Anakin Skywalker is Darth Vader there [TS]

are no surprises thrown him but and [TS]

there's no there's no sense of it like [TS]

  everyone in it [TS]

this has to be a dunce like for it to [TS]

work is you just it doesn't make any [TS]

sense everyone has to look stupid [TS]

there's nothing clever going on and does [TS]

after the fact that you know during it [TS]

doesn't feel true after the fact if you [TS]

examine it doesn't make any sense like [TS]

it is the worst that's why you know [TS]

jason said that he has difficulty [TS]

connecting this Vader with the the video [TS]

from the original trilogy in some ways [TS]

that's a blessing that I these movies [TS]

don't connect for me in any way but it [TS]

just shows like you haven't actually [TS]

explained how we got there those movies [TS]

  start [TS]

everything is in place in those movies [TS]

is not explained by these three movies [TS]

323 was ended by extrapolate far from [TS]

these movies it does not look like the [TS]

original trilogy like it just doesn't [TS]

look like that doesn't make any sense i [TS]

think these guys are all losers [TS]

everybody's stupid the Jedi are stupid [TS]

it Palpatine like well they're not [TS]

they're not necessarily stupid that the [TS]

weather one of the many failings of this [TS]

trilogy is that they never make you [TS]

think about how brilliant this plan to [TS]

basically get rid of the public and [TS]

established the Empire is my rear yeah [TS]

the idea the idea that i'm going to [TS]

slowly gained power i'm going to [TS]

basically create my own set of troops [TS]

are we are going to be like the heroes [TS]

to defend everybody people are going to [TS]

think that we've got these Jedi that are [TS]

actually commanding these troops were [TS]

actually we're just dispersing the Jedi [TS]

to make sure that they're gonna be [TS]

overwhelmed by 3230 clone troopers when [TS]

I need to get them all out of the way to [TS]

protect against this guy I admit this is [TS]

a case of your bored watching this [TS]

terrible movies you're writing a better [TS]

movie in its place but it was [TS]

potentially a really good plan [TS]

they just never because they were rather [TS]

much rather will have us and have us [TS]

believe that Anakin is this money I teen [TS]

tiger beat like chosen it's so tragic [TS]

and dusky that he's been tearing this [TS]

way to save the life of his love like no [TS]

that's I don't buy that either the [TS]

problem is that to Lucas in this [TS]

particular connect the dots game what's [TS]

important to him is the dots and not the [TS]

connections between them we have to have [TS]

the gym locker dot in this months ago to [TS]

show pakistan in the political science i [TS]

would say which you know like i said it [TS]

is one of the root problem here is that [TS]

is that it in fact as political science [TS]

it's bad political science because what [TS]

he's really doing is telling the rise of [TS]

Hitler allegory the idea with all of [TS]

these rises of dictators is everybody [TS]

goes along with it because it's a [TS]

gradual slide it is the parable of the [TS]

frog and the gradually boiling pot of [TS]

water you know the what ends up [TS]

opening is you turn around one day and [TS]

you realize oh my god we turned into an [TS]

empire but that's not what happens this [TS]

because that first that wouldn't be very [TS]

exciting series of science fiction [TS]

action movies I suppose it would be [TS]

boring political science but this is [TS]

already boring political science so what [TS]

we get is taxation again if you would [TS]

ask me at the beginning what's the [TS]

trilogy going to be about I'd be like [TS]

it's going to be about a kid who's [TS]

brilliant and he's gonna end and as the [TS]

lead the light of the Jedi is fading and [TS]

the light of the of the the Emperor he [TS]

  is on the rise [TS]

he's torn between these two the fading [TS]

good guys and the rising bad guys and he [TS]

make some bad decisions that end him in [TS]

a really deep dark place because along [TS]

with the whole galaxy right [TS]

instead what we get as well it's really [TS]

a story about a dictator tricking [TS]

everybody so that he can rise to power [TS]

that is really what George Lucas thinks [TS]

these movies are about when I would our [TS]

take a step further and argue that that [TS]

you know even if that's what you thought [TS]

the movies were gonna be out about [TS]

Anakin's fall i would argue that they [TS]

shouldn't have been i think because it's [TS]

really well as we're going to see later [TS]

on in this movie it becomes really hard [TS]

especially in a Star Wars movie which [TS]

even if it gets dark is still supposed [TS]

to be sort of an adventure rights that's [TS]

really precise with a character who is [TS]

going to do terrible things really the [TS]

story in my mind and he's totally right [TS]

you're writing a better story to go [TS]

along should be about obi-wan breads [TS]

well it's kind it's the counter a [TS]

counterpoint of obi-wan and Anakin right [TS]

is ideally the story here is that one of [TS]

them is this person who is who has [TS]

always dreamed of being a Jedi but the [TS]

Jedi are fading out which is part of my [TS]

problem with this by the way is that in [TS]

the original trilogy you get the sense [TS]

that the Jedi have been fading away [TS]

where it's like well no it was more of a [TS]

lightsaber away in about 10 minutes [TS]

already more or less forgotten about the [TS]

Jedi by the time of episode 4 had ever [TS]

as we've covered this before that [TS]

everyone just forgot that i never seen [TS]

anyone has never seen what is this crazy [TS]

religion you're talking about the Jedi [TS]

are not allowed to be spoken of they [TS]

were and they were expunged in the [TS]

program's exactly and then a [TS]

counterpoint is obi-wan who's basically [TS]

soldiering one and and yard I suppose [TS]

soldiering on everything's falling apart [TS]

what is the last thing we have in the [TS]

last thing we have is to get us set up [TS]

  for these kids [TS]

and that and sort of like I have to [TS]

retreat everything is sad but I'm going [TS]

to find a way through so that there's a [TS]

glimmer of hope for the future a new [TS]

hope in the future right and that's not [TS]

what we get but the problem is that [TS]

fundamentally what happens is that every [TS]

single important thing that goes on [TS]

every single piece of important [TS]

character development happens to Steve's [TS]

point about not connecting the dots [TS]

the problem is that the rationale for [TS]

every single thing from Anakin's fall to [TS]

the fall of the republic is it happened [TS]

because the script said so well right [TS]

there's no there is no connection there [TS]

is nothing there and it is to a [TS]

tangential point about the people forget [TS]

about Jedi was he usually used to watch [TS]

a recent episode of Star Wars rebels [TS]

which is quite entertaining and people [TS]

are talking about Jedi like ah yeah [TS]

those guys are fairy tales I'm like it's [TS]

been 15 years just misses like if you [TS]

forgot about like oh yeah [TS]

SEAL Team six right those guys are just [TS]

a myth that happened ten years ago where [TS]

the Jedi secret to agents [TS]

well if you weren't involved in a border [TS]

dispute I could see how you would not [TS]

have run out of the bed there enough [TS]

well I mean if you think about it if [TS]

you're talking about outer rim planets [TS]

right you've probably never seen a Jedi [TS]

again unless there's apparently they [TS]

need the internet there could be no [TS]

they're considered the mythical the [TS]

mythical saviors of the galaxy right and [TS]

then if you also put the Jedi in the [TS]

Jews situation for making a world war [TS]

two allegory do it like no I'm serious [TS]

like you put them you put them into the [TS]

slot into the the Jedi do slot and you [TS]

think about it haha yes you should stop [TS]

that presentation please the terms jus [TS]

  days haha [TS]

boo alright alright you take that [TS]

hypothesis the Empire is probably like [TS]

we don't want to hear about Jedi's we [TS]

don't want Jedi's mentioned we don't so [TS]

if you grew up in that area you're not [TS]

going to talk about Jedi's you're not [TS]

going to hear about Jedi's because it's [TS]

basically a taboo topic the topic what [TS]

you get arrested are but even taboo [TS]

topics people know about them they know [TS]

they don't they know right engineers is [TS]

  not long enough [TS]

they're not legends at that point right [TS]

there there there there memory that that [TS]

people talk about and it's but it's not [TS]

like faded they eventually would fade [TS]

into a legend but again that would be [TS]

after 50 years or fifteen hundred years [TS]

later that's one thing 15 years later [TS]

like I'm pretty sure people even on the [TS]

farm that the Galaxy would still believe [TS]

that those are actual things that [TS]

existed somewhere and John you mentioned [TS]

  on the talk show [TS]

star wars episode about this at this [TS]

point that when Han Solo is talking to [TS]

obi-wan and Luke he's like talking about [TS]

the Jedi like they're just a rumor of a [TS]

crazy thing that happened a hundred [TS]

years ago he's been all over the galaxy [TS]

seen a lot of strange things he's never [TS]

seen anything that convince them to jedi [TS]

the force even exist as a thing like I [TS]

mean he was alive when the Jedi were [TS]

around here you know they had a whole [TS]

big temple on the the the main planet of [TS]

the Empire right big building has never [TS]

seen anything you donate conference room [TS]

he said he said I deniers a force desire [TS]

huh is a really effective disinformation [TS]

  campaign [TS]

oh and we don't want to start with me we [TS]

can't root for the guy we feel you know [TS]

what he's gonna do terrible things I [TS]

think you can you just have to [TS]

understand why he's doing the terrible [TS]

things like that whole thing it's if [TS]

your main character is going to do [TS]

terrible things is going to end up [TS]

becoming evil you want to feel like boy [TS]

that's terrible but I kind of see wire [TS]

where he was coming from my name is [TS]

bringing up the Godfather me that's all [TS]

sorts of horrible things like that of [TS]

this is the dumbest person in the [TS]

universe right because you have to be [TS]

like you he makes bad choices but you [TS]

could totally understand where he's at [TS]

emotionally and why what it like it's a [TS]

difficult choice like it and then in [TS]

this movie you watchin is like no sane [TS]

person would make that choice and so you [TS]

can't empathize with them at all and so [TS]

now it's not that you're singing do bad [TS]

things you've seen him do bad things [TS]

inexplicably you're like lizards just [TS]

  nuts [TS]

the shortcut it to write because the [TS]

murder of small children is like I was [TS]

nothing more evil in the murder of small [TS]

children that will convert everybody's [TS]

evil there's no real reason to do that [TS]

they couldn't kick puppies i kept copies [TS]

and kids would come on the screen here [TS]

to stop them but this puts a hybrid evil [TS]

now i'm turning Darth Vader for some [TS]

reason yeah let me let me kill some kids [TS]

  that makes sense [TS]

Young's or worse of all of all the [TS]

people in that temple you want to go [TS]

against people who are your age where [TS]

justice skilled and trained if there's [TS]

some sort of apprentice Jedi's for about [TS]

half your height one-third your weight [TS]

and barely are trusted with a sword [TS]

  that's if I gotta kill Jedi's that's [TS]

  what I'm going first [TS]

ok Europe understand Jedi so those [TS]

babies are traders that traders the [TS]

Republic Andy yeah those kids know about [TS]

politics we you know what the little [TS]

dudes running around chopping at your [TS]

knees while you're fighting the [TS]

pls those kids were definitely old [TS]

enough to vote by the way less they put [TS]

the park they park their bikes in your [TS]

parking spot no matter how many times [TS]

you tell them not to [TS]

did you see that teenage Jedi fighting [TS]

off all those clone troopers it needed [TS]

to die he gave me lip to add a real [TS]

attitude i believe that was George [TS]

Lucas's son actually let me take a break [TS]

to tell you about mail route imagine a [TS]

world without spam viruses are bounced [TS]

email imagine opening your email and [TS]

seeing only the legitimate email you [TS]

want and need to receive mail route can [TS]

make that a daily reality they have for [TS]

  me [TS]

you don't have to install any hardware [TS]

software you don't have to maintain [TS]

hardware/software all happens in the [TS]

cloud mail received your mail sorts it [TS]

and delivers only clean email to your [TS]

  email server and mailbox [TS]

it's easy to setup reliable trusted by [TS]

  the largest universities and [TS]

corporations as a desktop user like me [TS]

you'll find mail routes user interface [TS]

super simple and effective if you're an [TS]

email administrator or an IT [TS]

professional they built all of their [TS]

tools with you in mind there's even an [TS]

API for easy account management their [TS]

support for ldap an active directory TLS [TS]

male bagging outbound relay everything [TS]

you'd want from the people who are [TS]

handling your email you can start a [TS]

risk-free trial with no credit card [TS]

required you sign up you change your MX [TS]

records and you do need to know what [TS]

that is that means that they're going to [TS]

point the male to male route surface [TS]

first and then it passes on to you you [TS]

do that your mailbox and hardware are [TS]

completely protected it is simple and [TS]

effective there's no good reason not to [TS]

  give it a try [TS]

everybody who listens to the [TS]

incomparable receives ten percent off [TS]

the lifetime of your account go to mail [TS]

route dot net / smell right now and you [TS]

can get ten percent off for the lifetime [TS]

of your mail route account now route [TS]

  dotnet / smell [TS]

thank you so much to me around for [TS]

sponsoring being comfortable so the [TS]

crawl all over an hour and we've got [TS]

into the crawl ok we could cover we've [TS]

got covered a lot here i just i'm gonna [TS]

i'm gonna mention some things that [TS]

happened and then we can go from there [TS]

  the again Palpatine's kidnapped [TS]

off-screen we do see early x-wings & Tie [TS]

Fighters and I wanted to use that as a [TS]

jumping off point to briefly discuss the [TS]

fact that there is an attempt made by [TS]

somebody in the art department [TS]

to tie this movie in yeah with a new [TS]

hope this this is very clear that they [TS]

are trying very hard so we get early [TS]

ships that look very much like x-wing [TS]

shifts that look like Thai fighters but [TS]

aren't quite there yet we see there are [TS]

cinnamon rolls on the side of padma his [TS]

head that are very ladylike and then [TS]

later in the movie we see Jimmy Smith's [TS]

traveling on a ship with white interior [TS]

that looks very much like the ship at [TS]

the beginning of a new hope so [TS]

there are instead i think it is is it [TS]

officially the same ship had to be [TS]

formulated yeah because it's captain [TS]

Antilles alright because they give the [TS]

gifts c-3po to him and have him have [TS]

have my just remember that there's a [TS]

bunch of those things i noticed subtler [TS]

indeed the displays in the jedis [TS]

fighters look exactly like the display [TS]

in Darth Vader's TIE fighter in episode [TS]

4 the little circular like targeting [TS]

thing is not yeah same display as well [TS]

so they tried but it's kinda ham-fisted [TS]

  in some places [TS]

well i don't know i like it in the same [TS]

way that i really like the music in [TS]

these movies i think the the designs for [TS]

the things are actually really good i [TS]

like the designs of the protostar [TS]

stories like the pro-x wings that the [TS]

Jedi fighters are little bit dorky it [TS]

kind of see what there is but like at I [TS]

think the sort of Mecca designs to use [TS]

the animator man in the entire prequels [TS]

for the most part are pretty good i mean [TS]

i don't really like the droids from the [TS]

prequels I don't really like most of the [TS]

robots but the ships are all pretty good [TS]

ships are pretty good work to make an [TS]

uncool starship it was really [TS]

interesting to see how they will do what [TS]

computer displays knowing that they have [TS]

to make it look that that like this was [TS]

20 years before the technology that we [TS]

saw 1977 if i was able to exactly like [TS]

we have we have to do captain we have to [TS]

do Nixie tubes somehow in here and make [TS]

it look like it's a real thing i love [TS]

the evolution somewhere out there is [TS]

like no no these these multi-purpose LCD [TS]

displays these are the most useful way [TS]

  display information Lincoln lights [TS]

arranged in a console CRT's should [TS]

really evolved from LCD that much harder [TS]

when you think about my drift there's a [TS]

terrible war i'm sure LCD panels are in [TS]

  short supply [TS]

they just have to use old technology [TS]

maybe later fruit stuff for you you just [TS]

buy one of these old panels hooked up to [TS]

two Raspberry Pi the first time through [TS]

and maybe the second movie too [TS]

it was all about look what we can do [TS]

  state-of-the-art [TS]

this movie it definitely feels like the [TS]

in the art direction like John said in [TS]

the art direction this movie is about [TS]

hinting at the original trilogy and [TS]

hinting especially episode for that day [TS]

there is an effort made by yeah i think [TS]

it's cool i think it's cool that [TS]

suddenly you're like hey wait a second [TS]

he's flying a ship that looks kind of [TS]

like Darth Vader's TIE fighter and those [TS]

look like x-wings and-and-and there [TS]

there's the superstructure of the death [TS]

star but I actually really liked the the [TS]

the freighter which is which I guess you [TS]

are the the the the ship that antilles [TS]

is on and and yeah Jimmy spits is on and [TS]

i like that because it's like hey we're [TS]

back where we started right I i like [TS]

seeing that it's the same problem as [TS]

Darth Vader where it's all shoved into [TS]

the last movie though like we didn't [TS]

build towards their like we got there [TS]

are moving more like oh crap well forgot [TS]

to mention these connect that's the [TS]

that's the whole movie is this which is [TS]

like oh jeez we squandered 10 movies and [TS]

now we gotta put it all in here all [TS]

right this is the last season of lost [TS]

squished into 12 an hour and 20 minutes [TS]

i thought i was going to say like just [TS]

gonna say was like George George Lucas's [TS]

term paper is due the next games play [TS]

crap I gotta finish this all three hours [TS]

he didn't say craft and he said no [TS]

jugular was that you will see the do we [TS]

see the proto Empire Imperial uniforms [TS]

anywhere else but the last scene because [TS]

that definitely fill out of nowhere and [TS]

almost on the Taylor said quick because [TS]

it becomes outfits whipped up we need [TS]

them for the final scene i know i'm like [TS]

you guys have epaulets and everything [TS]

else I'm like that whole planet of the [TS]

healers putting together outfits through [TS]

the time he does cuz Palpatine has the [TS]

Imperial Guards the red guys are like [TS]

ready to go you know if we wanted to ask [TS]

Dexter jettster about a planet full of [TS]

taylor's new learners they probably [TS]

wouldn't that's right as anyone I think [TS]

  I can you don't admire Palpatine's [TS]

plotting not only does he raise that [TS]

clone army but he does have new uniforms [TS]

ready to go so small himself that man is [TS]

what is it is like opening a restaurant [TS]

you do a soft launch just to get the [TS]

bugs out and then you open the doors for [TS]

these for the reefer the galaxy alright [TS]

we're wearing these great things now yes [TS]

yes all right he's got the appetizers [TS]

got the people to where the boss [TS]

Marnie alright you gonna tell us what [TS]

these Chiclets on our chests actually [TS]

mean or no it's it's tough here that's [TS]

  all uniforms [TS]

it's a style thing that that was I i [TS]

remember i distinctly remember in the [TS]

theater watching episode 3 and let the [TS]

point where I kind of gave up on the [TS]

movie was oh so not only are we seeing [TS]

wookies we are absolutely seeing [TS]

Chewbacca is just and it's not like this [TS]

not as though that he just like [TS]

accidentally showed up in episode 4 with [TS]

no connection at the ok that is I don't [TS]

  think to the audience [TS]

I have a note to that and the effect it [TS]

to that effect which reads Chewbacca [TS]

medio de this sounds like somebody's [TS]

fanfiction yeah did you did you know [TS]

that apparently in an earlier draft of [TS]

the movie they were supposed to be a [TS]

ten-year-old Han Solo as well on issues [TS]

on consumers sorry cousin because you [TS]

have a lot of sense it's it's like it's [TS]

really so at some point like they wanted [TS]

to come up with a master list of [TS]

everything we liked about the Holy [TS]

trilogy and decided to throw sand on [TS]

every gear in those mechanisms it's [TS]

  important [TS]

well into the wookies they avoided [TS]

ruining the wookies until this film and [TS]

  management's thanks guys [TS]

the Braves a brave warrior race there [TS]

was another among the last fall away i [TS]

agree that i like the ship design in [TS]

  this movie [TS]

what I dislike is the way that we are [TS]

introduced to the ship designs which is [TS]

that at the beginning of every single [TS]

scene there's a cgi establishing shot of [TS]

some sort of landscape and we get to see [TS]

this ship swoop in from the side and we [TS]

have a close-up at 44 sometimes as much [TS]

  as 35 minutes i actually I'm not 35 35 [TS]

  seconds [TS]

don't you got like that like 35 minutes [TS]

that I actually went through all the 50 [TS]

chapter stops on my DVD and of those [TS]

5022 of them start off with one of these [TS]

  sweeping cgi shots [TS]

well it just goes to the same point [TS]

about laziness this entire movie is lazy [TS]

from step one the shots are very static [TS]

they're the same all the dialogue is [TS]

very much the same like it's just they [TS]

just they just kind of pounded it out [TS]

Michael weekend but the shots they do [TS]

nothing but show off the visual effects [TS]

and get me started about the fight [TS]

  choreography fight choreography is [TS]

terrible yet to your point about visual [TS]

effects and is that watching i watch [TS]

this movie to X and O man when you watch [TS]

  something into x2 [TS]

see frames-per-second you know what else [TS]

is 60 frames per second video cutscenes [TS]

specifically in video anything in this [TS]

office so the vast majority of this [TS]

movie already you know that the cjis is [TS]

if he will you play it back at 60 frames [TS]

per second you can really tell what's [TS]

what's terrible cgi and what little bits [TS]

are real people and that kind of blends [TS]

together is the worst part of that is [TS]

the the clone troopers like there's no [TS]

reason yeah for all those clone troopers [TS]

to BCG you can put a guy in a plastic [TS]

suit we have met technology actually [TS]

looks pretty darn good especially when [TS]

like you don't even see that it's just a [TS]

torso in the background and it's the [TS]

Lucas digital you know a sort of [TS]

changing history after the fact diseases [TS]

like I like to see him but it'd be [TS]

better if we had a clone trooper in the [TS]

background sure we could just put a male [TS]

he could have had a guy standing over [TS]

the sink now what well Adam and post [TS]

with the end like it is just it they [TS]

look so bad what's damning John is that [TS]

even worse you can go back to the real [TS]

original trilogy and find places where [TS]

all those stormtroopers exist in matte [TS]

paintings and they still look better [TS]

management because they're just too darn [TS]

  close like there-there close-up [TS]

background filler but your eye is drawn [TS]

to them because you you get shiny not [TS]

right and it's like it's just it's not a [TS]

giant ship it's not a huge fist of a [TS]

city you can't build it's a guy wearing [TS]

plastic just go to a con and pull out [TS]

one of the cosplayers are bare [TS]

ya know they're all so yeah so the early [TS]

x-wings are there that the piloted by [TS]

clone clone troopers so we get our Lara [TS]

are Jango Fett actor gets to continue or [TS]

his face digital compositing only [TS]

african place in this movie yet police [TS]

screens within green screens Anakin and [TS]

obi-wan scrape off some droid bugs I [TS]

thought that was a interesting i've seen [TS]

right there's a scene where three of [TS]

them are worrying about how to get the [TS]

things off like our to both of them are [TS]

like looking over at ob one ship and I'm [TS]

like well why are they not watching [TS]

where they're going there in the middle [TS]

of a dogfight there in this big battle [TS]

but apparently there's no danger don't [TS]

you know flying is for droids flying is [TS]

for droids they don't need to actually [TS]

pay attention to where they're going no [TS]

they're too busy scripting off the bugs [TS]

you want to talk about as tragedy are [TS]

you know the one reason why we really [TS]

don't care about these these characters [TS]

at all is our five who is you know [TS]

  supposedly OB ones closest [TS]

right companion we've seen him with our [TS]

54 most movies are five gets killed the [TS]

  first meets a tragic [TS]

yeah his trash can come and even won't [TS]

be one just says oh well I hope he has a [TS]

mac know what care for you if you love [TS]

your astromech droid back him up daily [TS]

yeah he hates that robot let's just be [TS]

honest here I hope you have a backup [TS]

want to talk to him for all of episode 2 [TS]

he has now is no dispute exposition to [TS]

which just means he'll have to talk less [TS]

so you so like there's a point at which [TS]

you just intentionally drop your iphone [TS]

4s in the toilet because you really want [TS]

the iphone 6 so the other thing I kind [TS]

of informatics seen that again is [TS]

totally inferred and not spelled out is [TS]

are we supposed to get the idea that [TS]

Anakin has basically been promoted to [TS]

early because the Jedi are being pressed [TS]

into service and he's like you know we [TS]

sort of later on with his whole argument [TS]

about not becoming a master get this [TS]

idea that like yeah he's really good and [TS]

everything but it also is it supposed to [TS]

feel like oh man they promoted him too [TS]

fast because he we really need more Jedi [TS]

because we're fighting this big war was [TS]

not chosen one thing like he's supposed [TS]

to this first movie had some BS about [TS]

chosen on you i guess we have to like [TS]

promote a minor is the main character we [TS]

have to promote him know it's the [TS]

Chancellor the Chancellor is somehow [TS]

screwing with our minds and forcing us [TS]

to do this and we feel kind of kind of [TS]

bad i guess i guess we have to do this [TS]

so they landed me in the little landing [TS]

Bay thing which has got the magnetic [TS]

shields on my way gonna start going out [TS]

yeah I'm saying about the space battle [TS]

we have that in the interest of [TS]

continuity we do have a scene where [TS]

Anakin avoid some missiles by spinning [TS]

it turns out that actually was a good [TS]

track payoff a payoff and and is somehow [TS]

the Trade Federation hasn't really [TS]

upgraded its droids in all the years [TS]

that it's been doing stuff either didn't [TS]

really learn from its yeah but that's [TS]

not the problem with this [TS]

they're still dominant after they land [TS]

and horses the the lesson we should have [TS]

learned from especially episode 1 is it [TS]

a week enemies are boring it's a replay [TS]

of episode guide say they go in there [TS]

and start slicing and dicing those [TS]

droids like okay yeah we get it there [TS]

weekend amis they're not a threat to you [TS]

my notes just same more droid saber [TS]

father that's it's just like oh these [TS]

guys they're stupid and a waste of [TS]

  everyone's time [TS]

that's the latest reason I the same [TS]

thing battle droids are still use [TS]

listen includes our Father like it's the [TS]

same it's just let's put these two giant [TS]

armies here with no steaks because out [TS]

those guys are robots and those guys are [TS]

clones who really cares about anything [TS]

that you would even think their arms [TS]

would be getting tired of it by this [TS]

point that hire help to go could you [TS]

just mow down these droids because like [TS]

really they're not a threat but it's [TS]

just my arm is getting so tired from [TS]

these drugs and have just really a lot [TS]

of work i love that line from obi-wan [TS]

about the clones they're doing their job [TS]

so we can do ours and their job is to [TS]

explode basic job is to die without [TS]

honor we see them a Klingon voice it [TS]

sounds like you need to say that the [TS]

Klingon voice there is no honor and [TS]

dying is a close they are going to die [TS]

with no honor the owners they're cloners [TS]

all these cloners we gotta put another [TS]

order in for more korean food loners [TS]

best corners and so we got some elevator [TS]

shenanigans there's lots of really [TS]

exciting stuff involving elevators and [TS]

that's what I look for in a Star Wars [TS]

movie is some elevator and many [TS]

elevators they blow the top off it goes [TS]

down it comes back up i find it [TS]

interesting that the one new trade [TS]

federation do they introduced is no [TS]

longer in Asian stereotype but a surfer [TS]

dude I guess there's nothing they can do [TS]

about nute Gunray at this moment they [TS]

sure i'm gonna throw any more new [TS]

insulting Asian characters into no I [TS]

library i wrote down how come r2 d2 [TS]

needs a comlink he's a joy i wrote that [TS]

to why does are you having my radio in [TS]

parentheses for stupid comedy moments [TS]

  later [TS]

yeah all those rockets and oil injectors [TS]

that he uses but why why he's a robot [TS]

why does he have a human walkie-talkie [TS]

we didn't complain about this in episode [TS]

4 really need to close down the garbage [TS]

mashers yes because they give him [TS]

  see-three-pee-oh as a hand 3pl Threepio [TS]

doesn't have a comlink although he [TS]

really should be showed against Michelle [TS]

because of organs he doesn't because [TS]

need very little difference is they're [TS]

using the Death Star's communication [TS]

system so that they might not be wired [TS]

up to that this is like they're trying [TS]

to be in touch with each other and they [TS]

give our two of walkie-talkie it just [TS]

seems weird to me no cellphones a long [TS]

time ago in a galaxy far far [TS]

ok it's pretty cool at all of those [TS]

decks of heavy metal don't actually [TS]

interrupt the signal of the walking out [TS]

dessert initially wanted Jackie spaces [TS]

your phone too because like part of the [TS]

joke is like he's supposed to be holding [TS]

the thing and he's got it on speaker or [TS]

  something [TS]

then the voice comes in other choices [TS]

here him right just real offense to in [TS]

this film is they make are too and they [TS]

make our to the joke like what exactly [TS]

yes I know although i will say the scene [TS]

where he does the guys in oil and then [TS]

set them on fire was actually kind of [TS]

  bomb [TS]

I oh yeah i agree although the slap [TS]

stickiness of it did not need to be [TS]

there no but I felt like God you setting [TS]

  guys on fire [TS]

that's amazing magic happen all the time [TS]

flexible metals and but yeah you know [TS]

everybody figured okay we've established [TS]

that he can reject liquids and he has a [TS]

  rocket [TS]

so let's do this it's clever its clever [TS]

but he had to jason's point this entire [TS]

sequence does feel like a replay of the [TS]

episode 1 bit down to the look battle [TS]

droids oh look destroyers look we're [TS]

running around at SuperSpeed like you [TS]

know basically or many times from c-3po [TS]

but now I just a different Jedi and [TS]

we're still sort of negotiators I i [TS]

think they mean this to be like hey [TS]

aren't you getting that episode 1 [TS]

feeling it's like we've come all the way [TS]

back around and so don't wanna get it [TS]

could well I going now known as it won [TS]

again we get to see mr. mr. Dooku again [TS]

briefly before he's beheaded i want to [TS]

point out that in the background this is [TS]

one of those like we we have so much [TS]

power on our computing platforms now [TS]

that we can do anything they literally [TS]

while the entire showdown is happening [TS]

with with Dooku and General Grievous and [TS]

the Jedi there is the most insane space [TS]

battle happening behind them that we [TS]

don't care about but it's really [TS]

literally like hey guys what if we took [TS]

the insane space battle from Return of [TS]

the Jedi and just have the background [TS]

  where nobody cared about [TS]

can I can I file something under plot [TS]

points that make absolutely no sense and [TS]

therefore no reason files getting [TS]

awfully full it's a big it's a big way [TS]

to find the scene it does not exist for [TS]

any reason tel L Anakin's jumped outside [TS]

the elevator right and he jumps back [TS]

down and you know everyone goes to hit [TS]

him with the lightsaber and that goes oh [TS]

  it's you [TS]

yeah and it's like a who else is gonna [TS]

be your freaking Jedi you should know [TS]

when your pal shows up on your power is [TS]

totally useless and there's no reason [TS]

for to be there there's it serves 0 [TS]

purpose it's not be like it's sort of [TS]

camaraderie like oh these times [TS]

have together and her wacky and then [TS]

we're going to transition right into [TS]

while you're unconscious I'm gonna kill [TS]

  this guy [TS]

yeah also I'm not to mention obi-wan [TS]

unconscious but i'm pretty sure that [TS]

debt crushes his legs and then totally [TS]

fine i do ya later [TS]

no baby just gently pins him down a [TS]

column of Rock crushes legs in the [TS]

previous film I mean they came pretty [TS]

bad luck with lakes is robo let's say [TS]

one thing one thing I like in this first [TS]

segment is Dooku's crazy what what the [TS]

  what are you doing [TS]

  krazee-eyez 22 Palpatine well [TS]

Christopher Lee gives another really [TS]

game performance here however brief [TS]

which just serves to highlight the fact [TS]

that we only see him for like 30 seconds [TS]

in either film and he's the one guy that [TS]

manages to survive through two films as [TS]

a villain my note for that it's [TS]

Christopher Lee may be the only actor [TS]

who showed up for this scene [TS]

yeah yes hello again i will say that if [TS]

you if you add a cgi hand of Palpatine [TS]

waving his hand in front of an occasion [TS]

where he's like remember what your what [TS]

you told me about your mother in the [TS]

sand people you know this is is not the [TS]

  Jedi way [TS]

that's okay Anakin all of a sudden he's [TS]

crazy like pseudo super-creepy speech [TS]

makes a lot more sense [TS]

well he doesn't even do that speech in [TS]

this point this point he's like easy [TS]

he's got to go on the ropes got the [TS]

lightsabers bias neck and Anakin goes I [TS]

shouldn't and the convincing argument [TS]

that brings them over to did the fact [TS]

that he should kill this guy is [TS]

populations do it like this it like a [TS]

while but I've been convinced by the [TS]

power of your no he doesn't just say do [TS]

it he says do it [TS]

yes videos voice he's putting he's [TS]

putting his Jedi his evil Darth surface [TS]

evils of powers to the test no he just [TS]

wanted him to have a mountain dew [TS]

yeah that's what they do and i can do [TS]

what i do is my question really is Dooku [TS]

was so surprised like doing out and [TS]

brought you around that's all took what [TS]

if i said i don't do it now you're not [TS]

getting that's the rest of the movie do [TS]

it don't do it don't do it [TS]

going to have to say you're making this [TS]

a whole lot less fun for me it's just [TS]

  too easy [TS]

also does anyone else think like when [TS]

they walk in and you see Palpatine like [TS]

sitting in that chair it's like this is [TS]

kind of attended to folk episode on your [TS]

person understands look like as well [TS]

gotten and yet nobody can caught on to [TS]

the fact that he's the bad guy he's [TS]

sitting in the bad guy chair [TS]

yeah I don't understand how every single [TS]

one of these Sith dudes can sense the [TS]

great fear and anger and Anakin yet all [TS]

of his Jedi that's completely oblivious [TS]

to all guy seems cool [TS]

yeah that's just something that you get [TS]

on the dark side is the ability to sense [TS]

  fear and anger [TS]

  yeah I [TS]

  yeah I [TS]

and yoda can do it in theory search your [TS]

feelings you know that this is a time [TS]

when I will tell you about Squarespace [TS]

you know building a website can be tough [TS]

even if you do know your way around [TS]

coding creating something that looks [TS]

good and works well is a time-consuming [TS]

affair at best whether it's for [TS]

something like a business site portfolio [TS]

a restaurant something that's not in [TS]

flash for example for a restaurant we [TS]

would like more of those but today you [TS]

  probably need one [TS]

fortunately Squarespace is here to make [TS]

it easy to build beautiful websites [TS]

without being a super expert in all of [TS]

these different disciplines and even [TS]

  beautiful [TS]

the ship has hit at one point and [TS]

actually like Falls where I had that [TS]

moment of of the gravity questions which [TS]

  like this [TS]

in space how is it to think about grab [TS]

how is it falling and when they tilt the [TS]

ship everybody tells off the gravity is [TS]

  often [TS]

yeah but the falling it's like it's [TS]

falling out of the sky which doesn't [TS]

make any sense because it's a spaceship [TS]

and i know i know but i still I i was so [TS]

far out of it at this point that I was [TS]

just like what what is even what is even [TS]

  happening here [TS]

I i have note that the saber duel that [TS]

we get around here felt especially fake [TS]

to me like it was a series of one [TS]

individuals in front of a green screen [TS]

differently is not up more that's [TS]

alright Angie a non-zero terrible stunt [TS]

double for Christopher Lee a problem [TS]

with this the fighting here as is the [TS]

problem with most of the other fight [TS]

scenes in this movie is that they're all [TS]

shot in kind of medium shots a lot of [TS]

times and a lot of time there [TS]

back-and-forth shots so that's really [TS]

all there is no it's not scale but 19 [TS]

scale like there's definitely no scale [TS]

but like there's no tracking there's no [TS]

it's not like oh yeah there it's totally [TS]

disjointed and so the having a stunt [TS]

double I'm sure was problematic for [TS]

shooting this in terms of having a [TS]

composite Christopher Lee face and [TS]

working me into like oh yes now let's [TS]

have a close-up to show that he really [TS]

is here fighting him in my other mother [TS]

weird thing is Anakin's like my powers [TS]

have doubled since the last time we've [TS]

been like that even mean like by what [TS]

scale like everybody ok wednesday he [TS]

went to destiny status comments look at [TS]

  all [TS]

they have deployed the wilhelm scream by [TS]

this will help scream have 1545 what are [TS]

tired and they also have the the Jedi [TS]

get caught in the ratio thing which [TS]

seems a little opp to me because like [TS]

they're this is giant giant world that [TS]

they have with all sorts of things and [TS]

then all of a sudden something cg effect [TS]

comes out of nowhere and they're like [TS]

well this Trump's my lightsaber my force [TS]

power is like why don't they make [TS]

everything out of ratio then you could [TS]

  win this war [TS]

also let's count how many times they say [TS]

ray shield in a 37 my god yeah that was [TS]

my plan to protect the ratio owners [TS]

  shields [TS]

don't worry I didn't know that they had [TS]

  rain shields [TS]

why is it that like after how many [TS]

people have to lose a hand in a [TS]

lightsaber battle before he said well [TS]

what if I just work got 'let's I want to [TS]

force we got let's what are you gonna [TS]

make the godless out-of-home more [TS]

lightsabers ratio is not something i [TS]

like that obi-wan says when they get [TS]

  trapped [TS]

how did this happen were smarter than [TS]

this he responds like the script isn't [TS]

you know show no evidence of that and [TS]

that's why I got John took the words [TS]

right out of my notes [TS]

he's not starting over like there's a [TS]

good at the very end of this work [TS]

General Grievous has a right nice piece [TS]

of on-the-nose dialogue where he says [TS]

time to abandon the ship and then [TS]

  abandoned the ship [TS]

thank you tell us what you want [TS]

everybody in this movie I think you're [TS]

gonna scream you're saying look at his [TS]

writing style it's like if only movies [TS]

were actually made this way like where [TS]

you just write down what you want to [TS]

happen we'll get to that later in the [TS]

love scenes but like if that we provide [TS]

us the way riding work for you just [TS]

write and now there is a scene where [TS]

there is an escape i'm doing a person [TS]

says I'm going to escape and then the [TS]

people say he has escaped it's the old [TS]

rhetorical trick of like telling what [TS]

you're gonna tell him tell him what you [TS]

told this work in Charlie Chaplin films [TS]

i do want to say that the running down [TS]

the elevator shaft thing is is a little [TS]

difficult for physics reasons but this [TS]

is one of those shining moments where [TS]

you watchin you go you know that's [TS]

actually pretty neat that's a fun [TS]

sequence there so so very rare in this [TS]

film but what doesn't work is the the [TS]

meeting with general grievous where [TS]

animals is generally shorter than expect [TS]

you're shorter than I expected [TS]

is that supposed to be an insult and if [TS]

so why he thinks it is because he says [TS]

Jedi scum or maybe he just like saying [TS]

Jedi scum O'Byrne he's hunched over [TS]

maybe it's all that because all hunched [TS]

over from one place window crushing him [TS]

and the animated club are serious i also [TS]

like that he happens to have two [TS]

available lightsaber pockets just like [TS]

we're just ready they're just just to [TS]

the perfect number you will be not a [TS]

tailor planet they can just add more [TS]

pockets at any time so he's got four [TS]

  lightsaber in arms [TS]

yeah sure that's your palate Palpatine's [TS]

Taylor is tailored the planet boilers [TS]

boilers haberdasher on this thing that [TS]

the thing that really upsets me in this [TS]

is that all the sudden we've gone from [TS]

daring rescue of Chancellor Palpatine 20 [TS]

be one being like have a job to do [TS]

Anakin try not to upset him it's you [TS]

know we're gonna go back to disk [TS]

  diplomacy [TS]

hey you know he grieves said the [TS]

negotiators are here so i guess it's [TS]

time to play negotiators that at least [TS]

until we execute our daring escape [TS]

yes please don't upset him with this [TS]

meaningless insult that makes absolutely [TS]

no sense at least he has those cool cool [TS]

more droids that have the little purple [TS]

stick things those guys are awesome [TS]

you know they're tough because they take [TS]

15 seconds to destroy instead of the [TS]

usual three right no yeah the second [TS]

that their own dedicated sound effect at [TS]

least they have little buzzy things at [TS]

the end which are shown to be somewhat [TS]

of a match for lightsaber like you can [TS]

clash with the lightsaber with him as [TS]

opposed to just being sliced in half [TS]

like butter like every other things like [TS]

there was contact with absolutely what [TS]

is the head off of them and they still [TS]

work the UH the the ship crashes and we [TS]

get quick whip watch we get another [TS]

happy landing go James Bond lines to [TS]

points1 that to go with the wise the [TS]

ship sinking what is blowing grievances [TS]

cloak when he's outside shifts i didn't [TS]

  figure that one base [TS]

yeah i think the gas coming out of the [TS]

ship the solar we all style it's a force [TS]

that binds the entire source so if [TS]

you're a droid ish kind of guy i [TS]

actually thought that was kind of clever [TS]

it's like well i can i can just go out [TS]

in space so I'm just gonna break the [TS]

windshield here you guys will suffocate [TS]

and i'll just be climbing around our [TS]

psychological though so if you're gonna [TS]

have anybody do that maybe not a great [TS]

item especially not a guy with emphysema [TS]

he's got breathing problems already i [TS]

know i know but wait a minute we see [TS]

later that he has no lungs so I still [TS]

have a problem with the head and I balls [TS]

with a frozen wizard if you have know if [TS]

we're gonna go to that route [TS]

why is the ship even designed for people [TS]

to walk around in if you just have [TS]

robots if you can make robots Fighting's [TS]

youtube and watch channel to check the [TS]

  ship [TS]

yeah it's extra and its surplus they and [TS]

and to the point Jason about the another [TS]

  happy landing [TS]

I think a Jedi have only two modes [TS]

literal and deadpan or attempted man [TS]

that's the only line deliveries that [TS]

either of them having this entire movie [TS]

i would like to know when our to learn [TS]

to say he who he does it twice he [TS]

doesn't during the fight with the droids [TS]

it sounds sort of michael jackson i [TS]

think it's an okcupid he's been trying [TS]

to enlarge little Annie going on yeah it [TS]

be all so how did the fire ships know [TS]

that they're good guys crashing the bad [TS]

guys ship and why did you find other [TS]

fire shit the fire ships are confusing [TS]

is someone's idea i mean happy lands [TS]

have the ship like it's I don't know [TS]

and again it anything like that like a [TS]

daring and narrow escape or anything all [TS]

of that relies on you caring about the [TS]

characters and being invested in what's [TS]

happening to them and it doesn't matter [TS]

how well you execute something like the [TS]

  elevator scene or some [TS]

like the crash scene if you're if you're [TS]

not on board with the movie you're just [TS]

like yeah yeah but if you are on board [TS]

the same scene can be super exciting [TS]

because you really care about the people [TS]

right but the laziness keeps coming [TS]

through here the thing that got me was [TS]

so we have this big fight [TS]

it's apparently over chorus and the next [TS]

day after his crash the ship it's like [TS]

everything's been mopped up we're all [TS]

good there's no fight happening yet [TS]

another happy day of course it [TS]

what the hell presumably the Chancellor [TS]

has been kidnapped from corisande [TS]

there's gotta be some maybe my room no [TS]

no stakes everything is predestined well [TS]

but it's all applauded by the Emperor [TS]

and he knows this is where he's going to [TS]

live so he doesn't want them to make a [TS]

mess though he does it all just [TS]

  somewhere else [TS]

uh we get padma a here populations has [TS]

done is all this action secret stuff is [TS]

brace yourselves ya think that the good [TS]

  times yes [TS]

not a damn thing happens for over 30 [TS]

minutes bad times they are coming you [TS]

you'll be begging for ships shooting [TS]

each other you don't care yeah here [TS]

comes Padma she's got the she's got the [TS]

  princess leia buns [TS]

she says she says transition and any I'm [TS]

pregnant by the way my note here is [TS]

every time she calls him Annie I think [TS]

about that episode one kid and get to [TS]

super creeped out help it [TS]

and as for pregnancy apparently the Jedi [TS]

Academy believe in abstinence only [TS]

education because great Jedi can't thank [TS]

you figure out how to do not they also [TS]

give to alter sounds on on in the end [TS]

their reproductive technology saw in the [TS]

lead planet of the star republic / and [TS]

pocketing tell that its twin television [TS]

and she was kid they just like the [TS]

mystery of it they you know keep it a [TS]

mystery and she goes from all I've got [TS]

some wonderful news to looking terrified [TS]

and being like what are we going to do [TS]

so maybe you know either have her be [TS]

happy about it or have her be worried [TS]

about it but the constant fluctuations I [TS]

don't know if they're gonna blame that [TS]

on hormones or whatever but it's weird [TS]

also does anyone route room does anyone [TS]

actually remember the fact that they're [TS]

supposed to be secret spouses because it [TS]

doesn't seem like she kind of like that [TS]

behind or too high too high that's the [TS]

thing i didn't notice it until this is [TS]

this viewing the movie which maybe is my [TS]

  second or third i don't i think i've [TS]

seen it before but like it by the end of [TS]

the movies like wait a second are we [TS]

supposed to believe like I've everyone [TS]

is the end we talk about what we want [TS]

  goes Anakin's it's Anakin's baby [TS]

did you think was the father like this [TS]

he was showing everyone knows she's [TS]

pregnant we just wanna say anything [TS]

about maybe she's just putting on weight [TS]

you didn't like what is this i don't [TS]

even understand like the premise of the [TS]

movie we supposed to believe that people [TS]

don't notice she's pregnant or they do [TS]

notice but they don't think we'll be [TS]

rude to ask who the father is so we'll [TS]

be the ones like at the end and it was [TS]

charging me like you know she was [TS]

  pregnant [TS]

who did you think was the father you [TS]

just that's why Jar Jar stop talking [TS]

yes and that's a fundamental problem of [TS]

this movie is it's an entirely unclear [TS]

from one scene to the next who else in [TS]

the cast is supposed to have what [TS]

information like who's supposed to know [TS]

that Palpatine is bad or not bad who's [TS]

supposed to know that Anakin and padmé [TS]

here together or not together that that [TS]

it's his childlike none of that is given [TS]

any context is she hiding her pregnancy [TS]

is gonna do people see that she's [TS]

showing she's staying in her room [TS]

combing her hair the whole time to hide [TS]

it like I don't think she is in her room [TS]

a lot actually i would not have [TS]

remembered that their wedding with their [TS]

like marriage was supposed to be a [TS]

secret had it not been for watching the [TS]

clone wars series again where it is once [TS]

again handled way better than it's [TS]

handled here I had that moment of like [TS]

  oh right [TS]

secret wedding um I want to make a note [TS]

here and say I understand like jarred [TS]

loose a charger doesn't say anything [TS]

he's on this movie they realize okay [TS]

he's a liability we're not going to use [TS]

charger here natalie portman oh she [TS]

wasted and she is completely I mean it's [TS]

not like such performances with three [TS]

shadow of her former so the other [TS]

Murphy's character like where is that [TS]

pad me where is the one who had a gun [TS]

who is like you know leading the charge [TS]

daring and instead she combs her hair [TS]

like she doesn't stay in a room is kinda [TS]

nice just character assassination of the [TS]

height is not only is a waste of Natalie [TS]

Portman but Padme as a character is [TS]

completely destroyed by this movie she [TS]

is no she is a 0 in this movie is [TS]

ridiculous and she was pretty damn close [TS]

to zero in the previous movie right but [TS]

it's worse at least she could shoot but [TS]

she was a woman of action she did think [TS]

she was she she was living with her and [TS]

the gun leading the charge and going [TS]

into like she wanted to get things done [TS]

she wanted to make change politically [TS]

she had ambitions she was an important [TS]

person chef Angie she just stays in the [TS]

room and her biggest concern is about [TS]

like house Anakin feeling that's it yep [TS]

she's she never leaves the room with the [TS]

exception of getting on the ship to go [TS]

  find Anakin [TS]

for this entire movie and again this is [TS]

a place where that actually could have [TS]

been explained in the movie as as soon [TS]

as I figured out found out I'm pregnant [TS]

I'm hiding and you know i'm i'm staying [TS]

here I've been you know having Jar Jar [TS]

take your business or my aides take care [TS]

  of business [TS]

I don't want anybody to find out let's [TS]

go back to Naboo except we can't leave [TS]

because there's still blood like they're [TS]

there could have been so so much solved [TS]

very quickly without her seeming [TS]

  basically completely helpless [TS]

yeah and she would have to be confirmed [TS]

conflicted about that or maybe [TS]

institution just be there combing your [TS]

hair and wondering about hob make up the [TS]

baby's room she would need to be a [TS]

character you know just very blase about [TS]

the fact that the Queen will likely kick [TS]

her out of the Senate if she has a baby [TS]

so I just get really like glass ceiling [TS]

that seemed to unenlightened for a cup [TS]

for a cup for a planet that will elect a [TS]

fourteen-year-old boy girl as your queen [TS]

and then like I have a pregnancy that's [TS]

the that's the good you get knocked up [TS]

and that's it you're out now up sorry [TS]

well they have they have they have [TS]

issues with young women clearly on Naboo [TS]

clearly also i'm not sure that George [TS]

Lucas really knows how pregnancy works [TS]

but this is this is the first time we [TS]

hear that she's pregnant and the rest of [TS]

this movie that just really want it [TS]

takes place over multiple months but I [TS]

think she's ready to deliver [TS]

I mean the film itself seems like it [TS]

takes multiple months but yeah but the [TS]

action on screen does not and and also [TS]

in that scene where like so if they're [TS]

pregnant we go back is coming your hair [TS]

on the balcony and Anakin is looking at [TS]

her I like to watch you creepily brush [TS]

  your hair [TS]

I'm amazed by his ability to look creepy [TS]

while look at that wife I get the idea [TS]

of the any mention this the idiot [TS]

this is the indexer classic story of the [TS]

  she's not pregnant she's having a [TS]

pregnant except that for plot reasons [TS]

she's on Khorasan when the right thing [TS]

to do sort of the classic style would be [TS]

that she has to go visit her sister in [TS]

the country on Naboo for about nine [TS]

months right and then she comes back and [TS]

she's ok I'm back I feel better now [TS]

Jason there's war the war ! that you [TS]

know what if course not was being [TS]

invaded as we are led to believe in the [TS]

beginning wouldn't they have evacuated [TS]

the Senators given that you know the [TS]

Senators and the Chancellor kind of hold [TS]

the power and if the Chancellor has been [TS]

kidnapped then the senator should [TS]

  probably be at [TS]

deep inside she spends a lot of time on [TS]

balconies in a giant place that's a huge [TS]

yes definitely with larger really gonna [TS]

hide your pregnancy spend a lot of time [TS]

out of paparazzi we're definitely no [TS]

droid paparazzi and on top of that let's [TS]

spend it in night where the entire time [TS]

is there is there really a scene where [TS]

she's not in lingerie uncomfortable [TS]

night we're like she's bringing things [TS]

with beads and those beads are just [TS]

going to you pearls there you try to lay [TS]

down on those you're gonna have big [TS]

circular marks on your arm when you wake [TS]

up at some point I was like wait hold on [TS]

is that address or a nightgown I can't [TS]

actually tell cuz I thought it was just [TS]

a dress and she goes to bed nude so [TS]

maybe she's known i can I don't know so [TS]

i wrote down the classic dialogue that [TS]

i'm going to recite hear you I'll help [TS]

  I'll help [TS]

you're so beautiful it's only because [TS]

i'm so in love but it's only because i'm [TS]

so in love with you know you and they [TS]

might have my notes just say ugh i have [TS]

Jesus this dialogue written down at this [TS]

point so love has blinded you [TS]

yeah well that's not exactly what I [TS]

meant but it's probably true and seen [TS]

that's really I think we're getting some [TS]

insights into why like Lucasfilm was ok [TS]

with so many people writing like fan [TS]

fiction and fan fiction movies that's [TS]

where they got all this dialogue heard [TS]

someone by him up the Saurus a fan [TS]

fiction has a way better dialogue in [TS]

this like what was being established in [TS]

the scene that they love each other by [TS]

having the character say i'm so in love [TS]

with you know i'm so in love with you [TS]

and i will i will say that it does nail [TS]

the fanfiction aspect of people bragging [TS]

about romance and love who have never [TS]

had a romance or been in love [TS]

oh my god Anika wakes up at from a bad [TS]

dream with his metal arm which is just a [TS]

reminder that he lost his arm and the in [TS]

the in the intervening time between now [TS]

and when Luke gets his arm cut off in 20 [TS]

years the technology improves quite a [TS]

bit because little ones to a real the [TS]

one place but they realized we can make [TS]

this look and uh and he has a [TS]

premonition that bad things are going to [TS]

happen with Padme that is a word a [TS]

premonition i wrote down that he dreams [TS]

of Star Trek one because it kind of [TS]

reminded me of yes there's a wormhole [TS]

it's very it's a very cheap effect for a [TS]

movie that is otherwise full of very [TS]

expensive effects and yet it still [TS]

manages to look really terrible and it's [TS]

cheap and it's vague like weed [TS]

on is point i guess it's supposed to try [TS]

to communicate some kind of emotion [TS]

rather than a series of events but it's [TS]

so pivotal to his supposed to turn to [TS]

the darkside he understand exactly [TS]

what's going on here and that that he's [TS]

totally convinced this is going to [TS]

happen all we see is that she said like [TS]

it was something else to get to compare [TS]

to like Empire where Luke has [TS]

premonitions that we don't see about his [TS]

friends being in pain and the others [TS]

like they might die they might not you [TS]

know he's given a choice like it is is [TS]

not so concrete that like my entire life [TS]

is going to hinge on this thing that I [TS]

absolutely positively sure it's gonna [TS]

happen exactly this way unless I do [TS]

something there should be ambiguity that [TS]

should be like well you know if you [TS]

leave now help him you could but you [TS]

know like it's stephen now maybe that [TS]

you know always in motion but Bob this [TS]

is just like no totally solid she's [TS]

gonna die unless I kill children also so [TS]

many so many of us like think that [TS]

empires the greatest movie like in the [TS]

entire series with with good reason but [TS]

that but that was something always [TS]

annoyed me that you know it makes a big [TS]

deal no no look you can't leave now [TS]

because disaster will happen and your [TS]

friends are gonna have to die and all [TS]

  this sort of stuff [TS]

nothing really happens as a consulting [TS]

bad happens as a consequence of him [TS]

leaving we learn here that yoga doesn't [TS]

know what the hell he's talking about he [TS]

barely survived and Yoda said didn't SI [TS]

he was saying this is a safe bet the [TS]

safe bet is to stay here you need to [TS]

complete your training for the good of [TS]

the universe it's better for you to stay [TS]

here let your friends die but Lucas [TS]

showing his character by saying yes for [TS]

the good of the universe maybe it's [TS]

better for me to stay here and [TS]

potentially let my friends died because [TS]

it's better for me to get completely [TS]

trained to save everybody but look shows [TS]

us not the kind of person i am going to [TS]

try to help my friends even if it means [TS]

me almost dying a side note is is that [TS]

is that instantly as your point about [TS]

not seeing the divisions mark hamill [TS]

manages to actually sell that so you [TS]

know anyone who wants to talk about Mark [TS]

Hamill not being greatest actor he's not [TS]

a greatest acted like he manages to make [TS]

you believe that there is something bad [TS]

going to happen without us ever seeing [TS]

it was Hayden Christensen can even make [TS]

us believe what we've Johnny cine yeah i [TS]

was sleeping shirtless did you notice [TS]

let's say you to my metal arm do you [TS]

like my metal arm pressure have some [TS]

more fun my golden army visits Yoda for [TS]

some therapy but Yoda is not a very good [TS]

  therapist [TS]

no says don't sweat it death happens be [TS]

happy your wife I don't know about is [TS]

  going [TS]

you guys that this whole this whole [TS]

section is deadly scenes of people [TS]

talking on Khorasan like we're back to [TS]

like it's flashbacks of like no not the [TS]

couches not the rooms not the talking [TS]

not that not the shot of this person [TS]

shot at this person is just your doom [TS]

two catches for ever happens for 30 [TS]

  minutes John 30 minutes [TS]

I i can I can summarize this actually my [TS]

notes to a pretty great job of [TS]

summarizing the plot here here let me [TS]

let me throw some on here [TS]

political science time we're giving more [TS]

powers to the Chancellor and it can [TS]

either be on the council [TS]

I need you more than you will know haha [TS]

oh did I say that out loud [TS]

how can you be on the council and not a [TS]

master well you know it's you [TS]

at least they let him get rid of the [TS]

stupid rat tail and I return I miss I [TS]

miss puppet Yoda dimension because I I [TS]

didn't mind some of the CGI Yoda but [TS]

here I really felt like boy I miss [TS]

puppet unit that was a different guy [TS]

  than this guy [TS]

it's not the making but even if you made [TS]

public you want to say the same lines [TS]

it's just like these are these are not [TS]

great and i use of the whole the whole [TS]

attachment philosophy like I it's hard [TS]

to watch this and not try to like you [TS]

know i'm going to psychoanalyze the [TS]

people who made this movie but like I [TS]

don't think you can do that I think it's [TS]

fair correct but i find myself going [TS]

towards like is this like the Pope the [TS]

post-divorce Lucas type of you know that [TS]

all the attachments in your life end up [TS]

hurting you and it's but like I don't [TS]

think it is because like that's not the [TS]

message of the movie that's but it just [TS]

like that the philosophy espoused by [TS]

yoga and the prequels does not connect [TS]

with me in any way we have a philosophy [TS]

espoused by Yoda and the real story we [TS]

also get what is an attempt at like I've [TS]

said before some some complex thoughts [TS]

about political science and the nature [TS]

of and the nature of dictatorship and [TS]

  democracy [TS]

this represents a failure to listen but [TS]

what you get is that you know the [TS]

council wants you to spy on the [TS]

Chancellor it's literally like does he [TS]

like me does he like like your knife [TS]

practice yeah don't tell him and and I [TS]

my note is this is politics as viewed by [TS]

a child this is a childlike view of [TS]

politics even if George Lucas wanted to [TS]

make a movie about political boring [TS]

political science that's obvious and [TS]

stupid and nobody wants to see it [TS]

his grasp I have to i'm just going to [TS]

say it and I i know this is incredibly [TS]

mean but his grasp of political science [TS]

is so simplistic that it makes me wonder [TS]

is this guy stupid because this is just [TS]

  it is a joke [TS]

it is an absolute shitshow makes it [TS]

makes aaron sorkin look like a genius [TS]

because he does those ridiculous like [TS]

his things are completely unrealistic [TS]

like the west wing is like so silly and [TS]

yet it is closed and it is like a [TS]

supercharged fantasy version of reality [TS]

but it but it's so much closer than this [TS]

because like okay this is not the way it [TS]

really is but wouldn't it be cool if and [TS]

this is ok this is obviously really is [TS]

and it wouldn't be cool if it was just [TS]

like a cell stupid it's just one another [TS]

it's just another example start a [TS]

half-assed attempts to trying to turn [TS]

something into a valid point and the [TS]

other point the other place this sort of [TS]

comes up is I think Anakin has this sort [TS]

of weird inconsistency and Trust of [TS]

padmé and we get this half-assed other [TS]

half-assed attempt of trying to [TS]

insinuate that maybe he thinks obi-wan [TS]

and she have something on the side [TS]

although they never gonna decide what [TS]

they're doing with that it's never its [TS]

but it's like it's kind of brought up [TS]

towards the end it's never even hinted [TS]

it's not believable at any point that [TS]

anyone reasonable at all it's literally [TS]

like a something out of a plot automatic [TS]

  like no jealousy [TS]

yeah let's put in some jealousy like [TS]

obi-wan and pawed me might be having an [TS]

affair really good because he visited [TS]

  once [TS]

oh yeah well app obi-wan was here wasn't [TS]

his windsong stays on my mind haha yeah [TS]

once upon a time an early script of [TS]

episode three surface and i want to say [TS]

right after episode 1 but before [TS]

episodes two and three and that script [TS]

was all about basically ob1 and Padme [TS]

coming close to having an affair and [TS]

Anna can basically go to reestablish [TS]

whether that was real or just like a fan [TS]

script I have no idea but either way is [TS]

  more believable [TS]

yeah there was no chemistry between [TS]

those actors and second movie so no but [TS]

it's but it's one of those things that [TS]

like if that was in kit like of some [TS]

kind of fact it's almost been completely [TS]

stripped out of this movie and there are [TS]

hints where could it could have been in [TS]

this movie but like you said it's it's [TS]

  it's theirs [TS]

there are no connections here they're [TS]

just like Oh what about this plot point [TS]

what about this plot point maybe won't [TS]

we'll just push this all together and [TS]

hope that this is a movie works this is [TS]

the guy I think in some ways this little [TS]

second section of this movie is [TS]

the nadir of the love of Star Wars [TS]

because this is this is George Lucas's [TS]

big political science payoff and we we [TS]

know we're going to crank up the action [TS]

and have to come to the Fallen Vatican [TS]

so this is the chance so like and it is [TS]

like half an hour long so we get the at [TS]

this point it's only been 20 minutes we [TS]

get the Anakin I think this war is [TS]

destroying the principles of the [TS]

Republic what if democracy no longer [TS]

exists which is completely asinine but [TS]

he is sort of supposed to be clueless [TS]

and asinine here my wife turned to me at [TS]

this point and said what does she see in [TS]

  him [TS]

there are no answers there people [TS]

there's no answer for that Palpatine [TS]

talks to Anakin the Jedi Council want to [TS]

take control the Republican that's a [TS]

really reasonable premise I didn't [TS]

appreciate the line that Palpatine has [TS]

  resist [TS]

search your feelings you know and Vicki [TS]

don't you close to be out the opera [TS]

scene had some things to recommend it [TS]

though you have the one thing I got a [TS]

point out about an opera screensaver [TS]

it's it's it's rags flying around in [TS]

giant bubbles and I'm gonna be our it's [TS]

it looks suspiciously like the Diahann [TS]

Carroll segment from the holidays but [TS]

the teacher is trying to teach Anakin [TS]

how reproduction works it's interesting [TS]

that you say that because at this point [TS]

he brings out the story of Darth [TS]

Plagueis quote in France the wise with a [TS]

name like that you know he's a fine [TS]

fellow and the point that he makes is he [TS]

could use the Force to influence the [TS]

midi-chlorians to create dot life and at [TS]

this point he looks very pointedly at [TS]

Anakin on the last word and I believe [TS]

this is to suggest that she means virgin [TS]

birth was planted by ass it all along in [TS]

fact i read an article that said that in [TS]

a previous version of the screenplay [TS]

that was then never shot but but it was [TS]

in one of the last wraps it was stated [TS]

outright that that the Emperor [TS]

essentially created Anakin so this is [TS]

basically i am your father and yeah [TS]

India's I you gotta love Darth Plagueis [TS]

but though you know I actually there's [TS]

one thing in this scene that I really ok [TS]

so i kinda like the the implication that [TS]

he created an American i think that's [TS]

kind of fun i really like the [TS]

implication where he tells this whole [TS]

story about how amazing dark Darth [TS]

Plagueis is he could keep people from [TS]

dying which is yeah he's trying to play [TS]

  on Anakin's fear [TS]

that Padma is gonna die but I like it [TS]

here I like he's hot as apprentice [TS]

everything he knew and then there's some [TS]

printers killed him in his sleep [TS]

haha oh did I mention did I not mention [TS]

that was me that implication i don't [TS]

think is the only one who is able to [TS]

sell these lines like it's just not a [TS]

well-written scene but it is movie at [TS]

least in the kind of weird background he [TS]

is the only actor who who like I feeling [TS]

McDermott and mcdermott shows up even [TS]

for everything yeah he is pretty good i [TS]

have to say i wrote down at one point [TS]

you know I really like him he he gives [TS]

it his all in this he really is a good [TS]

to see real villain he doesn't you know [TS]

if you just give him better things to [TS]

say but in this in the scene like the [TS]

mood and the background and the fact [TS]

that the two of them are alone there [TS]

like he tells a stupid story the lines [TS]

are silly the the one note about the [TS]

readings here is they did this again and [TS]

I just I it drives me insane like a [TS]

Republican says they're playing to [TS]

betray me and Lucas is a look and [TS]

Anakin's line is I don't think and then [TS]

he gets cut off and he does it in the [TS]

worst possible like the worst possible [TS]

  like I don't think I'd like a net-like [TS]

you can tell he wasn't going to continue [TS]

design that was the end of the sentence [TS]

actually yeah exactly that's what it [TS]

  seemed like [TS]

and why how can you not do that he did [TS]

in the first movie there instances that [TS]

just that's like moviemaking 101like [TS]

when a character has a line that trails [TS]

off our they're interrupted you have to [TS]

make it seem naturalistic you can't have [TS]

them read the I don't think line and [TS]

have them stop it just boggles my mind [TS]

how even everything like there's are [TS]

important that the best scene in the [TS]

movie they can manage to blow it by just [TS]

not something like on a technicality and [TS]

something so easy to two things about [TS]

the same 11 line i do like he is good as [TS]

a point of view which is obviously [TS]

intended to hearken to obi-wan's faster [TS]

as you and actually has the benefit of [TS]

being like in a better movie [TS]

oh that's kind of what this is about [TS]

again as John mentioned earlier from my [TS]

point of view the Jedi are evil [TS]

Anakin Anakin is good like anakin thinks [TS]

he's doing something like could we see [TS]

comments on Aris to say that this at the [TS]

opera scene in particular any an [TS]

imaginary a set of prequels that were [TS]

good this opera scene might actually [TS]

have it okay if you have you have to [TS]

explain why Anakin is super interested [TS]

in the ability to keep people from dying [TS]

because I because that is that you know [TS]

this is the glimmer apart this like the [TS]

glimmer of hope in the depths of despair [TS]

of of the worst part of this movie [TS]

why is he not the least bit suspicious [TS]

about Palpatine knowing any of this [TS]

stuff is actually got on me is realizing [TS]

oh yeah let me tell you all about this [TS]

stuff and he's like that sounds really [TS]

  interesting tell me more [TS]

again in a better movie we would [TS]

actually feel the fact that Palpatine [TS]

has essentially been a father to him to [TS]

obi-wan's older brother and now he [TS]

implicitly trust him which we don't get [TS]

any of this an advocate would need to [TS]

have a lust for power like he doesn't he [TS]

never establish Anakin's lust for power [TS]

like that comes out of nowhere like I [TS]

want to be in charge and super powerful [TS]

like the only way you're attracted to [TS]

somebody who gives you the promise of [TS]

ultimate power is if you're one of those [TS]

people who just like is is you know [TS]

craves power Anakin is mostly just been [TS]

ineffectual one whiny and not really [TS]

like going to rule everybody [TS]

well as we learned earlier Anakin is so [TS]

dumb that he's actually told the [TS]

Chancellor of the the Senate or the [TS]

Republic who it believes not to be evil [TS]

at this point that he slaughtered a [TS]

bunch of innocents and people on [TS]

Tatooine because again if you go back to [TS]

the idea that Palpatine is his father [TS]

figure he trusts Palpatine he wants to [TS]

work with Palpatine and crazy alternate [TS]

universe better movie this is the you [TS]

know Palpatine is is given him life [TS]

lessons when he's worried and confused [TS]

and doesn't know who to turn to and the [TS]

Jedi are frustrating him i don't know i [TS]

remember when i told my dad about all [TS]

those dead hitchhikers and it didn't go [TS]

at all like this this this could have [TS]

been a better in a better movie this [TS]

would've been such a pivotal scene you [TS]

think about so many other movies that [TS]

happen we're in that somewhere in act 3 [TS]

there is a complete pause to the action [TS]

maybe even other movies in which there [TS]

is actually a scene like at the Opera at [TS]

the theater where this the correct [TS]

father-figure can talk to the growing in [TS]

power but still quite impressionable [TS]

young person to simply say here's my [TS]

worldview and here is a there are so [TS]

many opportunities available to you [TS]

right now I don't want you to be set [TS]

down the wrong path and i'm going to [TS]

explain to you what I how I see the [TS]

world and why i believe the things have [TS]

to be the way that they have to be [TS]

and given that this was a situation [TS]

  which [TS]

the kid is now being told by being used [TS]

by the senator to say i want you to be [TS]

sort of my eyes and ears my spy as you [TS]

will to the Jedi Council but the Jedi [TS]

saying i want you to be my spy into what [TS]

the senator is going to this could have [TS]

been a better written movie with a [TS]

better actor this could have been one of [TS]

those things that you just ski on when [TS]

  you're watching a blu-ray you just [TS]

replay that scene over and over again as [TS]

it is it's completely squandered because [TS]

what they want to do is simply say he [TS]

doesn't want his wife to die and so he's [TS]

willing to make a deal with the devil in [TS]

order to make sure his wife doesn't buy [TS]

which is boring as hell yeah in the [TS]

magical alternate version of this movie [TS]

you've got Anakin as a young kid who [TS]

believes that you know truth and justice [TS]

in the you know the american way for a [TS]

better lack of term where you know he [TS]

doesn't believe he hate slavery he wants [TS]

everybody to be free he wants you know [TS]

he has all these grand ideals about what [TS]

politics should look like and then who [TS]

are the first two people that he really [TS]

meets or the first three people that [TS]

really meets in bonds with he meets a [TS]

jedi knight who are supposed to and you [TS]

know I resemble all good and that's good [TS]

and wonderful universe he meets a queen [TS]

who is very interested in politics and [TS]

about doing the right thing and he meets [TS]

you know the senator later the [TS]

chancellor who is again extensively [TS]

believes in the right way to do justice [TS]

so in theory you could have built a [TS]

movie on basically these three different [TS]

viewpoints and how he's basically been [TS]

tugged and pulled and his view his view [TS]

has been shaped on this is the right [TS]

this is what democracy should look like [TS]

this is this is why democracy is feeling [TS]

us this is why you know everything's [TS]

falling apart and you have Palpatine [TS]

from that idea being like I'm I'm subtly [TS]

slowly shaping your view of what a good [TS]

society should be and and why the Jedi [TS]

are manipulating and destroying my [TS]

society like there's again there's so [TS]

much potential here and all of it is [TS]

completely wasted all the frustration [TS]

unfortunately all of that would require [TS]

subtext which this movie lacks yeah yeah [TS]

well and this is I mean this is a one of [TS]

the ways that i have a problem i have [TS]

these two problems i have a problem with [TS]

Anakin and the light as i mentioned a [TS]

problem with sort of how he becomes [TS]

Darth Vader and one of the problems is [TS]

  fundamentally [TS]

I don't feel like anakin is is I would [TS]

have liked to have seen that story [TS]

surrounding exactly what you're talking [TS]

about that Anakin Anakin is not making a [TS]

decision to sell his soul to save his [TS]

his wife like Andy said I I want in [TS]

Anakin to believe that this is the best [TS]

path you have genuinely doing what he [TS]

thinks is right and that he has reasons [TS]

  to think that [TS]

and although we look at it and go oh you [TS]

know stupid kid you don't understand you [TS]

don't you don't understand history [TS]

you don't realize where this leads but [TS]

we don't really get that wewe just again [TS]

if there's the shortcut which is you [TS]

know a Svengali takes him under his wing [TS]

and hoodwinks him into doing things and [TS]

and and that's like when he's tricked it [TS]

doesn't have the impact of him making [TS]

those decisions for himself and making [TS]

those mistakes doesn't have any agencies [TS]

as far as zombies like a feather in the [TS]

wind in this movie I like all his [TS]

decisions are made for him by outside [TS]

forces and he just sits there and wines [TS]

  or is creepy [TS]

yeah buddy easy he says he's a chump [TS]

he's fooled and and again if you then [TS]

think this is Darth Vader you think oh [TS]

  my god [TS]

Darth Vader is not a chump who got who [TS]

got tricked into becoming a Sith Lord [TS]

and now just sort of has to live with it [TS]

that's not the darth vader that i have [TS]

in my mind he has a consistent worldview [TS]

that says that look you you ruled by the [TS]

fist and that you can't simply let [TS]

things happen you have to make things [TS]

happen and you basically have to do that [TS]

through fear and intimidation that's a [TS]

  worldview that's not a well i guess i [TS]

guess this i guess i guess i have this [TS]

job now and I've but I don't wanna move [TS]

out of this my factory town so I'm gonna [TS]

have to be the guy who fires people [TS]

no no that's not a worldview can you [TS]

imagine a scene in the original trilogy [TS]

where the real Darth Vader is told by [TS]

the Emperor hey go kill some young and [TS]

he says sure why not [TS]

and immediately goes and doesn't sure my [TS]

  master [TS]

alright we're about halfway through this [TS]

one so come back for our next episode [TS]

when we will finish at last [TS]

our journey through the prequels thanks [TS]

for listening to the uncomfortable we [TS]

will see you next time [TS]
