150: A Mac Pro in Every Pot

00:00:00   but I did see Star Wars last night we [TS]

00:00:01   talked about that for a while [TS]

00:00:03   that's old news me and i miss my chance [TS]

00:00:06   DeMarco seen that it's old news all [TS]

00:00:09   downhill from there [TS]

00:00:10   do you understand follow sure we [TS]

00:00:13   actually have some one person is not [TS]

00:00:15   have this i don't know this person who [TS]

00:00:18   lives in Dubai or just knows about the [TS]

00:00:20   apple store in Dubai but i'm trying to [TS]

00:00:22   think of a reason why this person is not [TS]

00:00:23   like every single person in the united [TS]

00:00:25   states on vacation and not sending us [TS]

00:00:28   any follow-up but an episode 149 we [TS]

00:00:32   talked about the foliage walls and the [TS]

00:00:34   Apple model store things from the 60 [TS]

00:00:37   minutes television show they showed like [TS]

00:00:40   oh here's a store where we try out all [TS]

00:00:43   the different ideas bad apple stores and [TS]

00:00:44   they have this one wall of the store [TS]

00:00:45   that had plants like real living plants [TS]

00:00:47   just sort of cascading down the wall and [TS]

00:00:49   I thought that would be funny if they [TS]

00:00:50   actually put that in a store [TS]

00:00:51   apparently they have this just goes to [TS]

00:00:54   show that everything they show on 60 [TS]

00:00:55   minutes has to be something that already [TS]

00:00:56   exists so there's no secrets are [TS]

00:00:58   revealed and the apple store in dubai [TS]

00:01:00   they have a foliage wall so there you go [TS]

00:01:02   that's super exciting that is a definite [TS]

00:01:05   reason to visit their just pet the [TS]

00:01:08   foliage I wonder how that like I mean I [TS]

00:01:11   guess they have to have people keeping [TS]

00:01:12   the plants alive but again why don't we [TS]

00:01:15   get for a bit if it's a good idea why [TS]

00:01:16   isn't a good idea everywhere [TS]

00:01:18   why is it only a good idea a desert I [TS]

00:01:19   don't know [TS]

00:01:22   beats me I'd it struck me as a little [TS]

00:01:25   weird although I really did like and I [TS]

00:01:26   think John you had briefly mentioned [TS]

00:01:28   mention this when we talked about it i [TS]

00:01:30   really liked the display case for all [TS]

00:01:34   the cases the iphone cases where the [TS]

00:01:37   case is on the outside of what ends up [TS]

00:01:40   being a drawer so you grab the case and [TS]

00:01:42   pull the case and then there's a drawer [TS]

00:01:44   of these cases behind it that was a [TS]

00:01:46   terrible word picture but hopefully that [TS]

00:01:48   makes sense i thought that was really [TS]

00:01:49   clever don't recall having ever seen [TS]

00:01:51   that before someone did right and I [TS]

00:01:52   missed I misplace their either email or [TS]

00:01:54   maybe was tweet and said that those plot [TS]

00:01:57   door things actually existing store [TS]

00:01:58   still so basically there's nothing in 60 [TS]

00:02:00   minutes that they showed you that does [TS]

00:02:02   not exist in an apple store which is not [TS]

00:02:04   surprising not surprising that a little [TS]

00:02:06   bit said [TS]

00:02:07   that's okay though alright so any other [TS]

00:02:09   follow-up we need to talk about [TS]

00:02:11   that's it everyone stone vacation [TS]

00:02:12   including including us so not only [TS]

00:02:14   California but everyone is on vacation [TS]

00:02:16   in california is always on vacation [TS]

00:04:14   christmas time has come and passed [TS]

00:04:16   and Casey has some new toys ladies and [TS]

00:04:19   gentlemen it's exciting [TS]

00:04:21   so we have talked about the new Apple TV [TS]

00:04:25   I now have a new Apple TV and now i will [TS]

00:04:30   make everyone sit here and listen to my [TS]

00:04:32   show so outdated thoughts about the [TS]

00:04:35   apple TV that's right I'll talk about [TS]

00:04:36   the mac pro later so I got to get back [TS]

00:04:38   oh god if you're serious then then all I [TS]

00:04:40   will happily forgo the apple TV talk if [TS]

00:04:43   that means you will forego the mac pro [TS]

00:04:44   talk [TS]

00:04:45   well i have to tell you that about the [TS]

00:04:46   new micro I got oh dear god I hope [TS]

00:04:48   you're kidding [TS]

00:04:48   I don't have any alcohol nearby says [TS]

00:04:50   it's gonna be a long night for me [TS]

00:04:52   well on a happier note set up the [TS]

00:04:54   bluetooth on my new apple TV flawless no [TS]

00:04:57   issues whatsoever so let this be a [TS]

00:04:59   lesson children that you never actually [TS]

00:05:01   do want to have the fear of missing out [TS]

00:05:03   that i have a chronic case of and you do [TS]

00:05:05   actually want to wait just a little bit [TS]

00:05:07   to get something new because i had no [TS]

00:05:10   problems with bluetooth setup I had no [TS]

00:05:13   real problems with the remote app [TS]

00:05:15   although it took me a minute to realize [TS]

00:05:17   that I needed to do the the software [TS]

00:05:21   update in order to get it if memory [TS]

00:05:22   serves [TS]

00:05:24   speaking of software update at seven [TS]

00:05:25   o'clock i think this is Christmas Day [TS]

00:05:27   seven o'clock in the evening on [TS]

00:05:28   christmas day flawless no issues i [TS]

00:05:31   connected via ethernet which might have [TS]

00:05:33   made things a lot easier but that was [TS]

00:05:35   really nice [TS]

00:05:36   oh that's what was it wasn't that the [TS]

00:05:38   software update screwed me up for the [TS]

00:05:40   remote app i actually did take notes i [TS]

00:05:41   just didn't read far enough [TS]

00:05:43   it took me a while to remember that the [TS]

00:05:46   remote app is paired to your home [TS]

00:05:49   sharing account and i had not yet set up [TS]

00:05:53   my home sharing account in the apple TV [TS]

00:05:55   even after I've done the update and all [TS]

00:05:57   that so for the life of me I couldn't [TS]

00:05:58   understand why the remote app wouldn't [TS]

00:06:00   see the apple TV and then I forget how I [TS]

00:06:02   figured it out but somehow or another I [TS]

00:06:03   realized oh no I need to sign into Home [TS]

00:06:06   Sharing and so once I did that that on [TS]

00:06:08   that work no problem which was really [TS]

00:06:10   nice [TS]

00:06:11   the control receiver for the the remote [TS]

00:06:15   in general have a bluetooth remote is is [TS]

00:06:17   wonderful I've learned that from the [TS]

00:06:19   fire TV stick but it's really great [TS]

00:06:21   having that bluetooth remote on the [TS]

00:06:23   appletv as well I also really really [TS]

00:06:25   liked and maybe we talked about this and [TS]

00:06:27   i just had a brain fart or something but [TS]

00:06:30   I really liked that it gave me the [TS]

00:06:33   option of instead of controlling volume [TS]

00:06:36   on my TV via hdmi cec or whatever magic [TS]

00:06:39   it uses I could program and ir remote [TS]

00:06:42   that it would use it would admit that [TS]

00:06:45   same ir to change a different things [TS]

00:06:48   volume which is exactly what i needed to [TS]

00:06:51   do because i have my receiver doing the [TS]

00:06:53   the speakers and all that and so I had [TS]

00:06:55   the remote learn my receivers you know I [TS]

00:06:58   our profiles or whatever you want to [TS]

00:06:59   call it and that work no problem and so [TS]

00:07:01   now the volume controls the receiver [TS]

00:07:02   which is really awesome i didn't even [TS]

00:07:04   know that was the thing i didn't like [TS]

00:07:06   that I had no idea how much battery [TS]

00:07:09   power the remote has and I at some point [TS]

00:07:12   or another I saw some dialogue or [TS]

00:07:13   something that said Oh will tell you [TS]

00:07:15   when the remote needs charging which is [TS]

00:07:17   an apple thing to do and that's fine but [TS]

00:07:19   it was weird that I couldn't even see it [TS]

00:07:20   when i went digging into the remote [TS]

00:07:21   setting screens I didn't like and I [TS]

00:07:24   don't like that there's no native [TS]

00:07:25   spotify app yes I am aware that there is [TS]

00:07:29   such a thing as airplay that is what [TS]

00:07:31   I've been doing with my apple TV for a [TS]

00:07:32   long time now but it seems to me like [TS]

00:07:34   there's no reason why couldn't you know [TS]

00:07:36   select songs or do what happened [TS]

00:07:37   whatever in a native app or just have [TS]

00:07:41   the have some sort of scenario wherein [TS]

00:07:43   the Spotify up my phone controls an [TS]

00:07:47   instance of it on the TV because that's [TS]

00:07:50   what Spotify works as I can control the [TS]

00:07:52   the playback from my computer from [TS]

00:07:55   Spotify up on my phone and it kinda like [TS]

00:07:57   the remote app works and its really [TS]

00:07:58   really awesome and I'd like to not have [TS]

00:08:00   to have my phone be beaming all that [TS]

00:08:03   data to the appletv it when it could [TS]

00:08:05   just do that on its own and on a final [TS]

00:08:08   note surprising precisely no one [TS]

00:08:11   oh my god you has plus it's so good it's [TS]

00:08:14   good it's worth the cost of admission [TS]

00:08:16   just reflects but to that end I have [TS]

00:08:19   like four apps on this thing i have flex [TS]

00:08:21   like Netflix and I put the ESPN app on [TS]

00:08:24   there and I think that might be it [TS]

00:08:26   and so I'm not really seeing what's [TS]

00:08:28   what's so great about the app store yet [TS]

00:08:30   with the exception of plex of course and [TS]

00:08:31   but that there's been no other killer [TS]

00:08:34   app that have thought to myself man I [TS]

00:08:35   really really really want to download [TS]

00:08:37   whatever [TS]

00:08:39   well to be fair be like that the kind of [TS]

00:08:41   device that is wherever this is like [TS]

00:08:43   this TV content box [TS]

00:08:44   I mean how many apps do most people [TS]

00:08:47   really use in that kind of context I [TS]

00:08:49   mean to me like it is useful to have a [TS]

00:08:52   large selection of apps but to any one [TS]

00:08:54   person anyone user of this device it [TS]

00:08:57   might only ever use 24 apps and that [TS]

00:09:01   might be perfectly fine enough for them [TS]

00:09:02   you know just like for you it might be [TS]

00:09:04   flex and netflix yeah for me it might be [TS]

00:09:07   like you know you know a game and [TS]

00:09:10   netflix and maybe I probably won't use [TS]

00:09:13   flex I might you know I i will use the [TS]

00:09:14   itunes store stuff and then maybe down [TS]

00:09:17   the road i might get HBO now go [TS]

00:09:20   whichever one that doesn't use cable [TS]

00:09:21   that you know one of those like us like [TS]

00:09:23   it's the kind of thing and and if [TS]

00:09:26   everything works well which is still [TS]

00:09:28   debatable but everything works well then [TS]

00:09:31   I think that's enough [TS]

00:09:32   you know you don't need it is it isn't a [TS]

00:09:34   phone you know you don't need to be [TS]

00:09:36   doing tons of different apps all the [TS]

00:09:38   time on your TV [TS]

00:09:39   I think most people are going to pick [TS]

00:09:40   like three or four at most you know so [TS]

00:09:43   wouldn't it be a good enough device and [TS]

00:09:45   a valuable purchase even if you never [TS]

00:09:47   use any other apps for it and then we [TS]

00:09:49   use now I think you're absolutely right [TS]

00:09:51   and you know as you were talking about [TS]

00:09:53   seeing myself why am I don't not bummed [TS]

00:09:56   out but I can't think of a better way to [TS]

00:09:57   describe it but i might be a little [TS]

00:09:58   disappointed that i don't have 305 apps [TS]

00:10:02   on this thing that I was really excited [TS]

00:10:03   about in you know what I think a part of [TS]

00:10:05   it is is that it looks so paltry in [TS]

00:10:07   silly compared to the prior gen apple TV [TS]

00:10:10   which had like what is it 40 or 50 apps [TS]

00:10:13   and new ones just spawning like rabbits [TS]

00:10:16   constantly but to be fair you're exactly [TS]

00:10:18   right that I really never used any of [TS]

00:10:22   those and so in the end of the day it [TS]

00:10:23   was really clutter but because it feels [TS]

00:10:26   like i have fewer things now it's all it [TS]

00:10:29   feels worse even though in reality it's [TS]

00:10:31   actually probably a lot better you [TS]

00:10:33   should put some some other lesser [TS]

00:10:35   staples on there like I think you should [TS]

00:10:37   probably put the YouTube app on there [TS]

00:10:39   and maybe those amazon have like free [TS]

00:10:41   video maybe amazon video one if they [TS]

00:10:43   have something for free or if you have [TS]

00:10:45   amazon product no I don't think there is [TS]

00:10:46   any of the video at the thought that's [TS]

00:10:48   kind of the whole point of the whole [TS]

00:10:49   thing now I'd i use the series thing [TS]

00:10:52   reason [TS]

00:10:52   where ID I I think you have to say show [TS]

00:10:55   me i don't know it sounds so does a show [TS]

00:10:57   me but I said show me and then spoke a [TS]

00:10:59   movie title and I was impressed by two [TS]

00:11:01   things one that actually transcribed [TS]

00:11:03   what i was saying as I spoke it all [TS]

00:11:05   three things to that it properly title [TS]

00:11:08   case the title of the movie haha as I [TS]

00:11:12   spoke it [TS]

00:11:13   wait which proper title casing that just [TS]

00:11:16   you know the regular one so it didn't [TS]

00:11:18   capitalize prepositions and articles in [TS]

00:11:21   the middle the title and stuff like that [TS]

00:11:22   it doesn't matter was it was my son want [TS]

00:11:24   to see the maze runner so all those [TS]

00:11:26   words are capped right but as I said [TS]

00:11:27   show me the major Runner and the as [TS]

00:11:30   capital mazes capital and are and you [TS]

00:11:32   know in real time as it has it spat it [TS]

00:11:33   out so that was impressive and three it [TS]

00:11:35   gave me a bunch of options for where to [TS]

00:11:39   watch it one of which was because i was [TS]

00:11:40   if I had done it then put it this way if [TS]

00:11:42   I had done it with the old apple TV I [TS]

00:11:44   would've been like we don't have the [TS]

00:11:45   maze runner so let me just look to see [TS]

00:11:47   if it's available on iTunes and either [TS]

00:11:48   buy it or rented based on how likely i [TS]

00:11:50   think we as a household are to want to [TS]

00:11:53   watch this again but instead I said show [TS]

00:11:54   me the Maze Runner and put it down there [TS]

00:11:56   is an option and i clicked on it and it [TS]

00:11:59   was available on HBO GO [TS]

00:12:01   so I just played it for free and so [TS]

00:12:03   that's that's a pretty flawless victory [TS]

00:12:05   for the new Apple TV over the old one [TS]

00:12:07   because it took less time is expected to [TS]

00:12:09   the remote and spoken to it it did the [TS]

00:12:11   right thing and let me watch for free [TS]

00:12:12   you know because I already pay for HBO [TS]

00:12:14   it didn't have to go rent it from itunes [TS]

00:12:17   so thumbs up there is something i [TS]

00:12:19   haven't tried but I'd really like to and [TS]

00:12:22   I just didn't think about until he said [TS]

00:12:23   that is yo can I get into my plex [TS]

00:12:27   library through Siri from like the home [TS]

00:12:30   screen and I believe there's api's that [TS]

00:12:32   allow that to happen but I don't have [TS]

00:12:35   the faintest idea whether or not plex [TS]

00:12:36   supports it had some flex a couple [TS]

00:12:39   run-ins with flex I was trying to watch [TS]

00:12:41   i forgot i was wanted trying to watch [TS]

00:12:43   something that I had available in many [TS]

00:12:46   different ways and my my TV due to [TS]

00:12:48   weirdness of hdmi and misguided attempt [TS]

00:12:52   to copy protection if I play through the [TS]

00:12:54   DLNA client on my television very often [TS]

00:12:57   it only wants to help put like stereo [TS]

00:12:59   down to my receiver it won't even though [TS]

00:13:01   it will be fed 5.1 [TS]

00:13:03   from my DLNA server in the basement that [TS]

00:13:06   5.1 goes into my television but it never [TS]

00:13:08   gets to leave what comes out the back of [TS]

00:13:10   it instead is like even though it's on [TS]

00:13:12   the Audio Return Channel anyway I fought [TS]

00:13:14   with it for a while and like bottom line [TS]

00:13:15   is if it goes if I have my the [TS]

00:13:17   television itself the smart TV feature [TS]

00:13:19   do it sometimes I don't get the high [TS]

00:13:21   quality audio so I'm like well this [TS]

00:13:22   video has high-quality 5.1 audio I want [TS]

00:13:25   to get that directly but i didn't wanna [TS]

00:13:26   turn on the PlayStation which also work [TS]

00:13:28   because it's noisy so I said it's time [TS]

00:13:29   for the appletv to do it yet and then I [TS]

00:13:32   did like a search like is there a simple [TS]

00:13:33   DLNA client for apple TV and are a bunch [TS]

00:13:35   of the rest of you don't let me try plex [TS]

00:13:37   because i have the public server setup [TS]

00:13:39   on technology so I did and the thing was [TS]

00:13:41   there and for whatever reason it just [TS]

00:13:44   wouldn't play off of the synology I [TS]

00:13:47   don't know if this analogy couldn't [TS]

00:13:47   transcoded because it was too high [TS]

00:13:49   bitrate there didn't understand the [TS]

00:13:51   codec or something but then i remembered [TS]

00:13:53   like a flexible over the place so I just [TS]

00:13:55   started plex on my wife's new imac [TS]

00:13:57   pointed at the same you know I i had [TS]

00:14:00   already had set up there to mount this [TS]

00:14:01   analogy there and my wife's imac no [TS]

00:14:04   problem transcoding it and I played it [TS]

00:14:06   from there so flex kind of came through [TS]

00:14:09   for me they're like halfway i mean it [TS]

00:14:11   was it was flexible enough that if it [TS]

00:14:13   didn't work off of mine ass I could just [TS]

00:14:15   run it on the much more powerful neck [TS]

00:14:16   and that did work so kind of thumb [TS]

00:14:19   sideways there but anyway let me let me [TS]

00:14:21   let me play the video i wanted to play [TS]

00:14:24   in the quality i wanted with 5.1 without [TS]

00:14:26   having to irfan so it's good yeah it's [TS]

00:14:28   funny because I moved the now old and [TS]

00:14:32   busted apple TV from the family room to [TS]

00:14:36   the bedroom and I had on like mtv [TS]

00:14:40   unplugged or something like that this [TS]

00:14:41   morning if you specifically what it was [TS]

00:14:42   but I was hoping the alice in chains of [TS]

00:14:44   the best 1i no don't think i have that [TS]

00:14:46   one [TS]

00:14:46   I'm sure whatever what it was you would [TS]

00:14:47   judge me for and and if we don't need to [TS]

00:14:49   go into that what will say that for the [TS]

00:14:50   after-show many of them are very good [TS]

00:14:52   including the seal one that you gave me [TS]

00:14:54   that that I don't think it's available [TS]

00:14:55   legally anywhere i believe that's right [TS]

00:14:57   and and that was one of them that we [TS]

00:14:59   watched it was an mtv unplugged morning [TS]

00:15:01   maybe we can argue about that the [TS]

00:15:02   after-show since that appears to be what [TS]

00:15:03   we do these years I mean everyone [TS]

00:15:05   everyone loved the Nirvana and there are [TS]

00:15:06   no one is very good when I think the [TS]

00:15:08   alice in chains one is better [TS]

00:15:09   yeah i feel like i've heard it at some [TS]

00:15:11   point but not anytime recently so I [TS]

00:15:13   should take a note too [TS]

00:15:15   to listen to that again but anyway so i [TS]

00:15:18   was trying to the point of the matter is [TS]

00:15:19   I was trying to play plex from onto the [TS]

00:15:22   old apple TV which was wired via [TS]

00:15:26   ethernet now is Wi-Fi and is the way the [TS]

00:15:30   crow flies so to speak through the house [TS]

00:15:32   and home probably like 15 to 20 feet [TS]

00:15:35   away from my my airport extreme now [TS]

00:15:40   granted that's through like two or three [TS]

00:15:41   walls and all my god the new Apple TV I [TS]

00:15:44   don't know if it's because of ethernet I [TS]

00:15:46   don't know if it's because i'm not doing [TS]

00:15:48   airplay hop [TS]

00:15:49   I'm sure it's a combination of both but [TS]

00:15:51   it was so much nicer watching this stuff [TS]

00:15:54   on the new Apple TV then it was airplane [TS]

00:15:57   from the flex app on the old apple TV [TS]

00:15:59   anyway but so yeah I'd say at least one [TS]

00:16:03   thumb probably two thumbs up for the new [TS]

00:16:04   Apple TV the planet the flex experience [TS]

00:16:07   just is everything to me and it's in [TS]

00:16:09   this wonderful and there's a couple of [TS]

00:16:10   minor issues i have here and there but [TS]

00:16:12   but overall really really like it do you [TS]

00:16:15   like the I think the Plex you I on able [TS]

00:16:17   to explain to me like I know I'm place [TS]

00:16:19   you can pick like a background for the [TS]

00:16:21   things that they have all these you know [TS]

00:16:22   background images that people have made [TS]

00:16:24   and I remember the the mac plex client [TS]

00:16:27   had all these fancy backgrounds in the [TS]

00:16:30   UI like all different the appletv one is [TS]

00:16:32   kind of boring especially if you buy [TS]

00:16:33   folder i use flex by the way to watch [TS]

00:16:35   pharmacy specialized editions my parents [TS]

00:16:37   wanted to see the the first three star [TS]

00:16:40   wars movies before going to see the [TS]

00:16:41   seventh not not the first episode 12 and [TS]

00:16:44   three guys got a new album Bayern and [TS]

00:16:47   Jedi and i want to show them harming it [TS]

00:16:50   was the same situation i could play it [TS]

00:16:52   off my playstation but then you have to [TS]

00:16:54   hear the PlayStation fan so and I wanted [TS]

00:16:56   to get all you know that the [TS]

00:16:58   multi-channel sound and everything and [TS]

00:17:01   so plex to the rescue again it could it [TS]

00:17:03   could play them and they played them [TS]

00:17:05   correctly and I don't have to hear fan [TS]

00:17:07   but when you view by folder went into my [TS]

00:17:09   little star wars folder and navigate to [TS]

00:17:11   it was kind of boring looking just like [TS]

00:17:12   a list of words and you know cover art [TS]

00:17:16   off to the left I don't know I I I just [TS]

00:17:18   expected flex to be fancier like not [TS]

00:17:20   that I demanded to be fancy but it [TS]

00:17:24   seemed it seem to be not up to the [TS]

00:17:26   standards of the [TS]

00:17:27   other plex client so i can remember same [TS]

00:17:29   thing with the playstation 4 client by [TS]

00:17:31   the way but that's the least of my [TS]

00:17:32   concerns if it just gets the video and [TS]

00:17:33   place it I'm happy so flex is rising in [TS]

00:17:37   a steam in this household let me know i [TS]

00:17:40   agree with you i think that the UI is [TS]

00:17:41   good i would not say it's great and I [TS]

00:17:44   think it could definitely use some shop [TS]

00:17:46   massaging here and there however it is [TS]

00:17:49   so much a better experience than having [TS]

00:17:51   to have some like iOS device sitting [TS]

00:17:52   around ere playing everything that it [TS]

00:17:55   even with the world's ugliest you I it [TS]

00:17:57   could still in many ways do no wrong in [TS]

00:17:59   my book because oh my goodness it's so [TS]

00:18:02   nice having that natively on the appletv [TS]

00:18:04   now you can share your flex library with [TS]

00:18:06   me I would be happy to [TS]

00:18:08   I should do hmm ok or both of you i [TS]

00:18:12   don't think i can share with you guys my [TS]

00:18:13   my my mass is not exposed to the [TS]

00:18:17   internet at all so i don't think i can [TS]

00:18:19   share with you but it doesn't matter i [TS]

00:18:20   just want to get your stuff are you [TS]

00:18:21   running plex on your Synology yeah [TS]

00:18:24   really [TS]

00:18:25   you can do that well yeah you can but i [TS]

00:18:27   found it was whenever I tried to [TS]

00:18:29   transcode anything live it was a [TS]

00:18:31   disaster that's what I'm saying I [TS]

00:18:32   couldn't I couldn't watch the one of the [TS]

00:18:34   things i wanted to watch just didn't [TS]

00:18:36   play at all and had to use the imac but [TS]

00:18:37   harmony specializations played fine [TS]

00:18:39   mm you know I think what it might be as [TS]

00:18:42   if you have it format it formatted as [TS]

00:18:44   like I'm gonna get this wrong video [TS]

00:18:45   nerds I apologize but if you have it in [TS]

00:18:47   some apple friendly format let me just [TS]

00:18:49   pee vee lake [TS]

00:18:49   no i don't i do not pre transcode [TS]

00:18:52   anything like so whatever i downloaded [TS]

00:18:54   the Army says that's what they are [TS]

00:18:55   refused to like throw them into [TS]

00:18:57   handbrake and reconvert them because [TS]

00:18:58   then you're getting you're going double [TS]

00:19:00   lossless right so it won't play exactly [TS]

00:19:02   as it was downloaded then I find [TS]

00:19:04   something else to play it completely [TS]

00:19:05   agree i I've lamented in the past that [TS]

00:19:07   this isn't the technology that we all [TS]

00:19:09   have which is an 18-13 plus is does not [TS]

00:19:12   have a quick enough processor to do [TS]

00:19:13   transcoding and a lot of people have [TS]

00:19:16   complained about this and pastel just [TS]

00:19:18   transcode everything and make it all in [TS]

00:19:19   you know whatever magical Apple format I [TS]

00:19:21   i need and i completely agree John [TS]

00:19:23   that's just a bunch of work whether or [TS]

00:19:24   not you double [TS]

00:19:25   do you have the double aussie conversion [TS]

00:19:27   it's just so much work that I just don't [TS]

00:19:29   want to have to do and and I found [TS]

00:19:30   myself how she does [TS]

00:19:32   transcode a whole bunch of stuff on the [TS]

00:19:33   fly at a reasonable speed for me like he [TS]

00:19:35   was it you don't need to do is be able [TS]

00:19:37   to keep up with real-time and [TS]

00:19:38   can a lot of cases other cases it just [TS]

00:19:40   doesn't matter that's that's why I threw [TS]

00:19:41   the imac at it which you know didn't [TS]

00:19:43   break a sweat can transcode anything on [TS]

00:19:45   the fly because it's super fast and make [TS]

00:19:47   some mac pro feel bad and that's why I [TS]

00:19:50   have my old platter driven macbook pro [TS]

00:19:53   sitting on constantly I probably never [TS]

00:19:55   use this thing if it wasn't for the fact [TS]

00:19:56   that it is my plex server setup so why [TS]

00:19:59   will i will i'll invite you guys after [TS]

00:20:01   the fact to to share them to see my [TS]

00:20:04   specs stuff and so you can stream all of [TS]

00:20:06   the all the things that I have legally [TS]

00:20:08   totally when you can only stream you [TS]

00:20:11   can't download it [TS]

00:20:12   I'd like to talk about another gift I [TS]

00:20:14   got but do you want to talk about what [TS]

00:20:16   about something else that's awesome what [TS]

00:20:17   you want to just keep on truckin we also [TS]

00:20:20   sponsor this week by Casper Casper is an [TS]

00:22:13   thank you very much to Casper for [TS]

00:22:15   sponsoring our show once again [TS]

00:22:17   alright so the other thing that I [TS]

00:22:18   received this Christmas which I know [TS]

00:22:21   everyone is so excited about the [TS]

00:22:22   accidental look at me [TS]

00:22:23   humble bragging podcast is aaron cut me [TS]

00:22:26   a new retina ipad mini she got me an [TS]

00:22:29   ipad mini 4 with with retina and [TS]

00:22:31   cellular and i am really into this [TS]

00:22:35   device I've always loved my ipad mini's [TS]

00:22:37   my fight this is my fourth ipad i had [TS]

00:22:40   the original I had the ipad 3 which was [TS]

00:22:44   the first with retina which is what you [TS]

00:22:46   are still rocking John is that right [TS]

00:22:48   yeah [TS]

00:22:48   still it's it's getting long in the [TS]

00:22:50   tooth man i don't know i keep it up [TS]

00:22:51   getting heavy in the tooth had to then I [TS]

00:22:55   had the original original retina mini [TS]

00:22:59   and now the ipad mini 4 and the last two [TS]

00:23:03   both knees have been cellular in the [TS]

00:23:05   last couple of months I've given up on [TS]

00:23:07   my AT&T unlimited plan and so now I can [TS]

00:23:10   actually tether i'm not entirely sure [TS]

00:23:12   going cellular was the most right choice [TS]

00:23:16   but so far i've liked it and the Apple [TS]

00:23:18   sim is actually pretty cool i put a post [TS]

00:23:21   on my site about some random things that [TS]

00:23:24   I've discovered with regard to the apple [TS]

00:23:26   Sam and so you can go check that out if [TS]

00:23:28   that's interesting to you the short [TS]

00:23:30   version is it's a single sim card that [TS]

00:23:32   you can use with multiple carriers which [TS]

00:23:34   is really kind of fascinating i don't [TS]

00:23:37   have too much to say about the device [TS]

00:23:39   other than why didn't somebody tell me [TS]

00:23:41   that this ipad multitasking stuff was [TS]

00:23:43   really cool like I wish [TS]

00:23:44   federico ethics said something or [TS]

00:23:46   something like that because this is kind [TS]

00:23:47   of exciting i love that is this episode [TS]

00:23:49   is like Casey discovers after Christmas [TS]

00:23:52   what everyone else an apple community [TS]

00:23:53   discovered in the fall [TS]

00:23:55   it's been talking about for months well [TS]

00:23:57   welcome to october and and he's a star [TS]

00:24:00   wars 2 [TS]

00:24:01   yeah i saw Star Wars they just yesterday [TS]

00:24:03   actually as we record so anyway so i [TS]

00:24:05   won't [TS]

00:24:05   we'll go on about this like i like i did [TS]

00:24:08   about the apple TV but suffice to say it [TS]

00:24:10   genuinely I'm not trying to be funny [TS]

00:24:12   it genuinely changes how you use the [TS]

00:24:16   device when you can genuinely do more [TS]

00:24:19   than one thing at once on the old mini I [TS]

00:24:21   could do I believe it slide over where [TS]

00:24:23   you can just slide something in and [TS]

00:24:25   interact with it then you have to make [TS]

00:24:26   it go away because they wouldn't let you [TS]

00:24:28   do a full-on to pain multitasking I [TS]

00:24:32   could do picture-in-picture which by the [TS]

00:24:34   way quick aside flex on the ipad [TS]

00:24:37   actually does support picture-in-picture [TS]

00:24:39   even though it doesn't have the same UI [TS]

00:24:41   that everything else on the planet does [TS]

00:24:42   as it turns out if you just hit the home [TS]

00:24:45   button while you're playing something it [TS]

00:24:46   will automatically kick on [TS]

00:24:47   picture-picture which is really awesome [TS]

00:24:50   so anyway so I really really have liked [TS]

00:24:55   having multitasking on it and I can't [TS]

00:24:58   think of any like specific thing that [TS]

00:25:00   I've done that has been amazing but just [TS]

00:25:04   the ability to be able to say hang out [TS]

00:25:06   and slack while catching up on Twitter [TS]

00:25:09   or what-have-you has been so awesome and [TS]

00:25:12   genuinely changes i know that was like [TS]

00:25:15   18 times but it really does it changes [TS]

00:25:17   the way i think about my iPad and it [TS]

00:25:21   makes me feel like even my mini is so [TS]

00:25:23   much more capable this new many is so [TS]

00:25:26   much more capable than the mini that [TS]

00:25:27   came before it for me and and i'm really [TS]

00:25:30   excited to be able to dig into using [TS]

00:25:33   this little more not for work stuff or [TS]

00:25:35   anything like that but just to be more [TS]

00:25:37   and more productive or efficient maybe [TS]

00:25:40   is the word I'm looking for [TS]

00:25:41   well even just goofing off and so I'm [TS]

00:25:44   really stoked with it really pleased [TS]

00:25:45   with it and so far i'm excited that i am [TS]

00:25:48   that i got a cellular one and I now [TS]

00:25:51   understand Federico's rage over people [TS]

00:25:54   over apps that don't support the the two [TS]

00:25:57   pain multitasking because it is really [TS]

00:25:59   annoying marker you're the one who [TS]

00:26:02   tweeted retweeted something showing some [TS]

00:26:05   person saying you know guys it doesn't [TS]

00:26:06   take too many changes to you I window to [TS]

00:26:09   make it into it like they had they had [TS]

00:26:11   like windows [TS]

00:26:12   yes safety Esther did that looks like a [TS]

00:26:14   little like mock up like a working [TS]

00:26:16   mock-up demo of like multiple you I [TS]

00:26:18   windows [TS]

00:26:19   on screen at once with draggable edges [TS]

00:26:20   and trackable title passed and this is [TS]

00:26:22   on the ipad and what they're basically [TS]

00:26:23   had to look like is OS 10 windows but [TS]

00:26:25   with really big finger-sized widgets for [TS]

00:26:28   the little stop light winds right and it [TS]

00:26:30   looked look silly and I'm going to say [TS]

00:26:32   this is probably not the way you should [TS]

00:26:33   go but people are mad with power now [TS]

00:26:35   basically like a thick like split view [TS]

00:26:38   it is [TS]

00:26:39   wait a second cpu is capable of doing [TS]

00:26:41   more than things at once i need windows [TS]

00:26:43   and I need to arrange the Majesty not [TS]

00:26:44   recreating all they're recreating my [TS]

00:26:46   desktop on their iPads which is probably [TS]

00:26:48   not what they want they're not ready for [TS]

00:26:50   that but it's you know I guess someone [TS]

00:26:53   could do that maybe apple rejected [TS]

00:26:54   because they're kinda like that all this [TS]

00:26:56   tries to make a new you know window [TS]

00:26:58   bring environment i'm sure apple and [TS]

00:27:00   find some way to reject it because like [TS]

00:27:02   imagine a nap [TS]

00:27:02   yeah well there's been a rule forever [TS]

00:27:04   against apps to try to create their own [TS]

00:27:06   like desktop type environments inside [TS]

00:27:09   themselves to have any kind of like [TS]

00:27:10   multiple widgets inside of one central [TS]

00:27:12   at there again it's a very vague rule [TS]

00:27:14   but that's been there since the very [TS]

00:27:15   beginning it was like the one that got [TS]

00:27:16   that a sport rejected but then not [TS]

00:27:18   because they're ridiculous to reject [TS]

00:27:19   satisfied but like but definitely making [TS]

00:27:21   actual windows because I don't even know [TS]

00:27:23   how you would what you what would you [TS]

00:27:25   put in those windows like well I think [TS]

00:27:26   maybe if someone did like a sketching [TS]

00:27:29   application for the ipad pro where it [TS]

00:27:31   had a bunch of pallets that were like [TS]

00:27:32   literally just pallets like photoshop [TS]

00:27:34   pallets some kind of reared dockable [TS]

00:27:36   palace with big finger size things in [TS]

00:27:38   the top of them what Apple reject that [TS]

00:27:40   because it gives too much flexibility [TS]

00:27:41   about where you put the pallets I don't [TS]

00:27:43   like it seems like there is there's [TS]

00:27:46   something there where people somebody is [TS]

00:27:48   daring enough because the ability to [TS]

00:27:50   arrange the palace the way you wanted [TS]

00:27:51   photoshop or any other design [TS]

00:27:53   application that's a feature like people [TS]

00:27:54   have different tools that they want to [TS]

00:27:55   use it certain times and I mean and it's [TS]

00:27:58   not that the mac versions these [TS]

00:27:59   applications are infinitely flexible [TS]

00:28:01   you're still kind of stuck with this set [TS]

00:28:02   of power that you can arrange them make [TS]

00:28:04   them skinny or white or wherever but [TS]

00:28:05   talking designer watch them work people [TS]

00:28:08   have preferences about what goes where [TS]

00:28:10   on the screen where is the layers [TS]

00:28:11   palette where is the history pal what's [TS]

00:28:13   hidden was shown by default is it [TS]

00:28:15   skinnier wide what stopped here and [TS]

00:28:17   there like is it the full screen thing [TS]

00:28:20   is the small window like these are just [TS]

00:28:22   options with him you know photoshop if [TS]

00:28:24   there was an ipad pro sketching [TS]

00:28:26   application that gave similar [TS]

00:28:27   flexibility people use that flexibility [TS]

00:28:29   because maybe they wanted [TS]

00:28:31   what is the the thing that they always [TS]

00:28:32   go to go to the color well frequently to [TS]

00:28:34   change brush size is frequently they [TS]

00:28:36   don't have like a keyboard at the square [TS]

00:28:38   brackets to make the brush size go up [TS]

00:28:39   and down so being able to sort of a [TS]

00:28:41   range their workspace within an [TS]

00:28:42   application using things that I guess [TS]

00:28:45   you kind of not call them windows to [TS]

00:28:47   avoid getting rejected but i really hope [TS]

00:28:48   Apple wouldn't reject an app like that [TS]

00:28:50   because I think that's a great idea for [TS]

00:28:51   and for all I know is I'm not designed [TS]

00:28:53   for all I know their ipad perhaps that [TS]

00:28:54   already do this so if that's the case [TS]

00:28:56   then nevermind has already been done but [TS]

00:28:58   I if not that's definitely a direction [TS]

00:29:01   that I think it's safe [TS]

00:29:02   it should be safe to go in that [TS]

00:29:04   direction with design applications for [TS]

00:29:06   example on the ipad pro in seeing this [TS]

00:29:09   multitasking and taken to bring it back [TS]

00:29:11   around just makes me understand that [TS]

00:29:13   much more [TS]

00:29:14   why someone would really like an iPad [TS]

00:29:17   pro despite the fact that i do think it [TS]

00:29:19   is just comically large I can see how it [TS]

00:29:23   would be really really useful to have [TS]

00:29:24   all that extra screen real estate so [TS]

00:29:26   it's interesting but I i really really [TS]

00:29:28   like the new the new retina ipad mini I [TS]

00:29:32   two thumbs up for that two thumbs up for [TS]

00:29:33   the ipad multitasking really really been [TS]

00:29:36   doing it on the ipad pro being comically [TS]

00:29:39   large I still as I dwell on this [TS]

00:29:41   I think the problem is that is not big [TS]

00:29:43   enough not problem that is a problem [TS]

00:29:45   with a precursor but like the reason it [TS]

00:29:46   seems so large is because we are [TS]

00:29:48   comparing it to like the end of the [TS]

00:29:51   quarter full-size iPad if it was really [TS]

00:29:54   comically large like as in 21-inch no [TS]

00:29:56   one would be comparing it to like no one [TS]

00:29:59   would think i'm gonna put this in my [TS]

00:30:00   backpack [TS]

00:30:01   it would be for designers to work with [TS]

00:30:02   at their desks likewise it even an ipad [TS]

00:30:04   that point why aren't you just buys into [TS]

00:30:06   just a Mac why you know well because you [TS]

00:30:08   draw on the screen with a pen and you [TS]

00:30:09   don't do that with a mac and it's not [TS]

00:30:11   indirect like a cintiq where you at the [TS]

00:30:12   mac over here you know like I i still [TS]

00:30:14   feel like that's the direction we're [TS]

00:30:15   going in all be this at this point we're [TS]

00:30:17   going there at a snail's pace because it [TS]

00:30:19   took this long to get us a stylist and [TS]

00:30:21   slightly larger iPad but i think that [TS]

00:30:24   will solve the problem of will look at [TS]

00:30:26   the size of this giant iPad when it you [TS]

00:30:28   stop making that comparison to a certain [TS]

00:30:30   point when it becomes a thing that sits [TS]

00:30:31   on your desk [TS]

00:30:32   I don't mean that you have to plug it in [TS]

00:30:33   although you could plug it in but I mean [TS]

00:30:35   I think there have been people who made [TS]

00:30:38   these very large tablet size things like [TS]

00:30:41   21 inches or what [TS]

00:30:42   over and they just haven't caught on i [TS]

00:30:45   just don't think the software is [TS]

00:30:46   therefore yet but uh the same way that I [TS]

00:30:48   feel like the ipad pro features will go [TS]

00:30:50   down scale some point you can make that [TS]

00:30:53   pepper even bigger like why not if if it [TS]

00:30:56   becomes a tool for designers who wants [TS]

00:30:59   to design things on something as puny as [TS]

00:31:01   an ipad pro like why wouldn't you don't [TS]

00:31:03   want something bigger I think you would [TS]

00:31:05   naturally eventually [TS]

00:31:06   well why did they stop making the [TS]

00:31:08   17-inch macbook pro I i think that is [TS]

00:31:11   kind of like because the laptops that [TS]

00:31:14   role is to be portable right and i don't [TS]

00:31:16   think the tablet the ipad scrolls [TS]

00:31:18   necessarily to be portable for [TS]

00:31:20   especially for design things because you [TS]

00:31:21   just want to draw on the screen right I [TS]

00:31:23   thinks antiques are bigger than that [TS]

00:31:25   sighs well I i think the reason they [TS]

00:31:27   killed a 17-inch macbook pro is probably [TS]

00:31:30   because things weren't selling enough of [TS]

00:31:32   them to to make it worth continuing to [TS]

00:31:34   sell it so a larger iPad than the pro [TS]

00:31:36   might have that same problem they might [TS]

00:31:38   you know there is a maximum size above [TS]

00:31:40   which it is just too specialized and not [TS]

00:31:43   enough people will buy it to make it [TS]

00:31:45   worth Apple making it and for for [TS]

00:31:47   macbooks that appears to be 15 inches so [TS]

00:31:49   what is it for ipads it might be the the [TS]

00:31:51   ipad pro sighs it might be bigger who [TS]

00:31:52   knows i don't buy into that because i [TS]

00:31:54   think the generation is throwing my [TS]

00:31:55   surround the room want something they're [TS]

00:31:57   going to touch like that's what I keep [TS]

00:31:58   saying the ipad is the future of [TS]

00:31:59   computing is not going to be too [TS]

00:32:00   specialized what's going to be too [TS]

00:32:02   specialized as the pieces that you can't [TS]

00:32:03   touch so Apple is eventually for those [TS]

00:32:06   kids who are throwing those mice around [TS]

00:32:07   the computer lab or in kindergarten now [TS]

00:32:08   when they are 30 years old I think [TS]

00:32:12   they're gonna want a really big [TS]

00:32:13   touchscreen somewhere in their house to [TS]

00:32:16   do this type of stuff I can't do on [TS]

00:32:17   their phones like you're sitting down [TS]

00:32:19   like in the same way that we have an [TS]

00:32:20   imac or our laptops or maybe maybe I'll [TS]

00:32:23   just stick with us i don't like because [TS]

00:32:24   i had a 17 inch laptop it's an old form [TS]

00:32:27   factor and it's meant to be portable and [TS]

00:32:28   a non-portable laptop is called desktop [TS]

00:32:30   when we already have that like we have a [TS]

00:32:32   massive 5k I'm act like I don't I 212 [TS]

00:32:36   the thing to think about it what is the [TS]

00:32:37   upper size limit on desktop computer [TS]

00:32:40   screens 27 inches that like we went up [TS]

00:32:42   to 30 is that like the limit their did a [TS]

00:32:46   certain point it becomes you can't find [TS]

00:32:48   like a desk space big enough it starts [TS]

00:32:50   blocking your view out of your home like [TS]

00:32:52   it's just it's just it's just too darn [TS]

00:32:55   big [TS]

00:32:55   I have a friend who uses a television [TS]

00:32:56   like people have a vision problems of [TS]

00:32:58   not that it's low resolution but it's [TS]

00:33:00   just massive right I guess you know [TS]

00:33:03   maybe VR headsets coming and make all [TS]

00:33:06   this is moot point but anyway thinking [TS]

00:33:08   about the sizes screens can be in the [TS]

00:33:11   future I think it's the lots of [TS]

00:33:14   interesting possibilities and I think a [TS]

00:33:17   lot of our view today is colored by what [TS]

00:33:20   we're comparing it to or where we [TS]

00:33:21   slotted yeah you know that the soldiers [TS]

00:33:23   getting back to kc think of this [TS]

00:33:24   comically large and like in some [TS]

00:33:26   respects it is it's it's like the [TS]

00:33:28   world's biggest iphone or it's a [TS]

00:33:30   comically large ipad with other respects [TS]

00:33:32   it's a comically small laptop screen [TS]

00:33:35   detach from a keyboard so comically [TS]

00:33:37   small I package i'm actually in touch [TS]

00:33:39   right anyway that was an aside we also [TS]

00:33:44   sponsor this week by blue apron go to [TS]

00:33:46   blue apron dot-com / ATP to your first [TS]

00:33:52   how to cook [TS]

00:33:53   not only should know your way around the [TS]

00:33:55   kitchen cooking at home eating healthier [TS]

00:33:57   and saving money instead of ordering [TS]

00:34:16   printed right on the recipe cards and [TS]

00:34:18   many more online how to video to teach [TS]

00:34:20   you any fundamentals and techniques you [TS]

00:34:22   may not be familiar with now i use blue [TS]

00:34:24   paper my wife and I have used for a [TS]

00:34:25   while now and I can honestly say it is [TS]

00:34:28   as easy as they say and we do enjoy it [TS]

00:34:30   now each meal can be prepared in 40 [TS]

00:34:32   minutes or less and comes with exactly [TS]

00:34:34   the ingredients you need no role in trip [TS]

00:34:36   to the grocery store [TS]

00:34:38   no writing leftovers in the fridge and [TS]

00:34:40   no more sad take out regardless your [TS]

00:34:42   dietary preferences blue paper makes it [TS]

00:34:44   a breeze to discover and prepare dishes [TS]

00:34:46   like apple cider glazed chicken with [TS]

00:34:48   roasted parsnip carrots and baby sweet [TS]

00:34:50   potatoes right in your own kitchen also [TS]

00:34:53   cook with ingredients that you've never [TS]

00:34:54   used before like watermelon radishes [TS]

00:34:57   Pharaoh and purple potatoes all the [TS]

00:35:00   labor and recipes are between 500 to 700 [TS]

00:35:02   calories per portion this is delicious [TS]

00:35:04   and good for you right now you can get [TS]

00:35:07   your first two meals for free [TS]

00:35:09   blue apron dot-com / ATP once again [TS]

00:35:13   that's blue apron dot-com / ATP blue [TS]

00:35:16   apron a better way to cook [TS]

00:35:18   alright so John you had come up with a [TS]

00:35:22   topic or theme perhaps for the remainder [TS]

00:35:26   of today's episode which like to [TS]

00:35:27   introduce that kind of kick us off the [TS]

00:35:29   last episode 2015 that means they have a [TS]

00:35:31   sort of a year and thing you could do a [TS]

00:35:32   year in review you could do predictions [TS]

00:35:36   for next year but i wanted to do with [TS]

00:35:38   something kind of in between which is [TS]

00:35:40   2016 wish list with a set of rules of [TS]

00:35:44   course there are rules [TS]

00:35:45   so the first rule is that these are not [TS]

00:35:47   predictions so that gets us entirely out [TS]

00:35:49   of the game of trying to predict what is [TS]

00:35:51   actually going to happen in 2016 because [TS]

00:35:53   that's fun to do sometimes it's easy to [TS]

00:35:56   tell whether you're right for the most [TS]

00:35:57   part but i don't know like I'm I'm less [TS]

00:36:01   interested in predicting what will [TS]

00:36:03   happen then in talking about what i [TS]

00:36:05   would like to happen and for stuff that [TS]

00:36:07   you would like to happen you can't pick [TS]

00:36:10   like blue sky stuff where it's like if I [TS]

00:36:12   you know if I could have a pony and the [TS]

00:36:14   unicorn this is what i would want so the [TS]

00:36:17   rules are not predictions and pick [TS]

00:36:19   things that are plausible and feasible [TS]

00:36:22   and that you want to see in 2016 and I [TS]

00:36:24   guess we'll have to just judge whether [TS]

00:36:25   you put the thing you're asking for is a [TS]

00:36:28   fantasy that's never gonna happen and [TS]

00:36:29   has to be stricken from the list but [TS]

00:36:31   those are the ground rules i hope you [TS]

00:36:33   guys did some semblance of homework I [TS]

00:36:36   have a text file in front of me [TS]

00:36:37   that sounds serious as hell doesn't have [TS]

00:36:39   more than one thing in it it has 36 [TS]

00:36:42   lines with text on the blah blah input [TS]

00:36:44   including whitespace 36 lines all right [TS]

00:36:46   and this is not even like top for that [TS]

00:36:48   don't need to be ordered this is an [TS]

00:36:49   unordered list UL so you might actually [TS]

00:36:52   do okay if this marker [TS]

00:36:53   well it was very hard for me to do this [TS]

00:36:56   in a way that wasn't just predictions [TS]

00:36:58   yeah you have like not like that keeping [TS]

00:37:01   it too plausible things was it was [TS]

00:37:03   fairly easy but making it not just a [TS]

00:37:05   list of what i think will happen or what [TS]

00:37:07   i think is very likely to happen that [TS]

00:37:09   that is harder and i have i've [TS]

00:37:11   definitely different hard time with that [TS]

00:37:12   so my list is a little bit predictive [TS]

00:37:14   and did well to get away from [TS]

00:37:16   predictions reason to predictions is [TS]

00:37:18   because that allows a cynicism and [TS]

00:37:20   dogs you could say these dummies are [TS]

00:37:21   going to do this even though they [TS]

00:37:22   shouldn't and this is more just like [TS]

00:37:24   what do you want to happen [TS]

00:37:26   like what yeah if you could if you could [TS]

00:37:27   make certain things happen and you know [TS]

00:37:29   not magical things [TS]

00:37:31   what do you want to see in 2016 and it [TS]

00:37:33   can be anything tech I guess I mean [TS]

00:37:35   we're probably all thinking of apple [TS]

00:37:36   stuff and realize that we can be [TS]

00:37:37   anything tech related and honestly I [TS]

00:37:39   mean my list is actually pretty [TS]

00:37:41   optimistic or like it isn't a [TS]

00:37:44   pessimistic or cynical list because you [TS]

00:37:47   know look at my list is very very Apple [TS]

00:37:49   focused I just wasn't thinking of other [TS]

00:37:51   stuff because frankly the rest of the [TS]

00:37:53   country is kind of boring most of the [TS]

00:37:55   time to be honest but you know for me [TS]

00:37:57   the the Apple side of it i am i [TS]

00:37:59   optimistic simply because i think apple [TS]

00:38:02   in in 2015 2014 really did a lot of one [TS]

00:38:08   point I was like a lot of things are [TS]

00:38:10   either brand-new product lines or new [TS]

00:38:13   product sublines like the ipad pro or [TS]

00:38:16   you know new services like Apple music [TS]

00:38:18   and and photo cloud stuff like there [TS]

00:38:21   there's a lot of restarts and one point [TS]

00:38:24   was recently began in this past year and [TS]

00:38:27   some i'm really hoping that 2016 brings [TS]

00:38:32   a lot of 1.1 2.1 is usually just like a [TS]

00:38:35   lot of a lot of revision a lot of maybe [TS]

00:38:38   maturing of these lines and of these [TS]

00:38:40   various new products you know just kind [TS]

00:38:42   of a slowdown in brand new cutting-edge [TS]

00:38:45   launches because apples cutting-edge [TS]

00:38:47   launches have been all over the map in [TS]

00:38:48   terms of quality and and usefulness and [TS]

00:38:50   everything and so to have some time [TS]

00:38:53   where that can be kind of calm down and [TS]

00:38:56   matured and stabilized and developed [TS]

00:38:58   further rather than just more more one [TS]

00:39:02   point of everything would be very [TS]

00:39:04   welcome and I think that's why i think [TS]

00:39:06   that will happen and I hope that's what [TS]

00:39:08   will happen and that so that is my main [TS]

00:39:10   theme of my wishes is just stop with the [TS]

00:39:14   one point was for a little while I just [TS]

00:39:15   like take take all these one point is [TS]

00:39:17   forward to their to their next steps in [TS]

00:39:21   their in their growth there was a really [TS]

00:39:23   good why didn't finish it only had time [TS]

00:39:25   to read about the first half but I think [TS]

00:39:27   its new I patel wrote something on the [TS]

00:39:29   verge yesterday i believe it was it's [TS]

00:39:33   entitled Apple 2015 apples year in beta [TS]

00:39:37   and it very much echoes what you just [TS]

00:39:39   said that basically there's been a lot [TS]

00:39:41   of half cooked stuff that's been [TS]

00:39:42   released in this year and that's really [TS]

00:39:45   kind of unfortunate and I didn't get to [TS]

00:39:47   the portion which actually sounds [TS]

00:39:49   perhaps even more interesting to me [TS]

00:39:50   which is new platform ideas in search of [TS]

00:39:54   sticky user behavior so for example 3d [TS]

00:39:56   touch which i find i'm using more in [TS]

00:39:59   more overtime but i did not have the [TS]

00:40:02   instinct like oh my god i'm using this [TS]

00:40:05   always experience that I was kind of [TS]

00:40:07   expecting to actually sold like this in [TS]

00:40:10   the show notes but it was it was a [TS]

00:40:11   little on the negative side but i think [TS]

00:40:14   it was pretty fair [TS]

00:40:15   all told ya I mean you know that this at [TS]

00:40:17   this point and apples evolution they are [TS]

00:40:19   really throwing a lot more spaghetti at [TS]

00:40:21   the wall to see what sticks and and [TS]

00:40:23   whether that used to happen more in [TS]

00:40:24   private is now more public or whether it [TS]

00:40:27   you know as I said in a recent sure like [TS]

00:40:29   I think they're just been a lot of [TS]

00:40:31   low-hanging fruit that has all been [TS]

00:40:32   picked and now like in order to find the [TS]

00:40:35   next the next big thing or the next the [TS]

00:40:38   next success in the business [TS]

00:40:40   it's harder and and the successes are [TS]

00:40:42   getting smaller relatively speaking and [TS]

00:40:45   you know it all the low-hanging fruit is [TS]

00:40:46   already been picked on a lot of industry [TS]

00:40:49   so it is it's just getting harder to [TS]

00:40:50   find what's next and define success and [TS]

00:40:52   so we are seeing things that come out [TS]

00:40:55   that are kinda like really like or or [TS]

00:40:58   things that you're not really sure will [TS]

00:40:59   work and many of them don't many of them [TS]

00:41:02   do and it's happening more in public now [TS]

00:41:05   with Apple than it used to i think and [TS]

00:41:07   maybe worth remembering wrong I don't [TS]

00:41:09   know but it does seem like we are seeing [TS]

00:41:11   a lot more things come out of Apple that [TS]

00:41:13   are not clear winds from day one [TS]

00:41:16   obviously you can look back in the past [TS]

00:41:18   and you can you can say well it's never [TS]

00:41:20   perfect and that's true but i think if [TS]

00:41:22   you look at like the iphone 1 point 0 or [TS]

00:41:25   even the early ipods and and you know [TS]

00:41:28   many of their earlier like 1.8 kind of [TS]

00:41:30   releases vs today's one point over [TS]

00:41:32   Lisa's I i think the number of asterisks [TS]

00:41:35   and and downsides in the past was [TS]

00:41:37   probably lower then than it is today and [TS]

00:41:40   and in part that's because they are [TS]

00:41:42   bigger company i do think it has to do [TS]

00:41:44   in part with [TS]

00:41:45   he's not being there anymore and I think [TS]

00:41:47   in part just because the products in our [TS]

00:41:48   more complicated and as you said like [TS]

00:41:50   it's more challenging now to find new [TS]

00:41:53   territory that will be a success yet [TS]

00:41:56   from this piece that i was talking about [TS]

00:41:58   this newly patel and that's really the [TS]

00:42:00   issue we're not used to apple being just [TS]

00:42:02   fine we used to apple being wildly [TS]

00:42:03   better than the competition or sometimes [TS]

00:42:05   much worse but always ahead of the curve [TS]

00:42:08   on some significant taxes but we got in [TS]

00:42:10   2015 was an apple that released more [TS]

00:42:12   products never all of which felt [TS]

00:42:13   incomplete in extremely meaningful ways [TS]

00:42:15   ways that meant that their products were [TS]

00:42:17   just fine and often just the same as [TS]

00:42:20   everyone else's yeah i don't know if i [TS]

00:42:22   buy that the premise is again a long [TS]

00:42:25   memory but one one thing when i think of [TS]

00:42:27   the problem like the underlying thing I [TS]

00:42:29   keep coming back to my hobby horse which [TS]

00:42:32   is I don't know that like it in a world [TS]

00:42:35   where products increasingly have a [TS]

00:42:38   back-end service component that works [TS]

00:42:42   against apple because i don't know if [TS]

00:42:45   they can make those things like all [TS]

00:42:46   their one point know their buggy [TS]

00:42:48   whatever like I just need one more year [TS]

00:42:50   to work out the kinks when it was just [TS]

00:42:51   software and hardware that ship to [TS]

00:42:53   customers that was true they could work [TS]

00:42:55   out the kinks that would make the [TS]

00:42:56   hardware better but when its server [TS]

00:42:59   component things like I don't see a lot [TS]

00:43:02   of like there's some progress there but [TS]

00:43:04   it's really slow and I'd that's why [TS]

00:43:06   don't have the confidence like Oh given [TS]

00:43:08   given a year or two like contact syncing [TS]

00:43:11   will be a solved problem you know how [TS]

00:43:12   long Apple from working on contacting I [TS]

00:43:14   don't you people don't have many [TS]

00:43:15   contacts I don't have many contacts got [TS]

00:43:17   like hundreds of a couple hundred [TS]

00:43:19   contacts I just wanted to be the same [TS]

00:43:21   everywhere and to be in sync and that [TS]

00:43:24   this should be a solved problem but it [TS]

00:43:27   isn't and it like is it is it because [TS]

00:43:28   Apple hasn't had time to work on contact [TS]

00:43:30   syncing know like it's just I I feel [TS]

00:43:33   like there is a fundamental in [TS]

00:43:35   capability of the organization to get [TS]

00:43:37   past some threshold of quality and as [TS]

00:43:39   more and more things they make have that [TS]

00:43:41   component I worry that there's like a [TS]

00:43:45   ceiling on how good those things are [TS]

00:43:47   going to be how good can Apple music be [TS]

00:43:48   if there's necessarily a server [TS]

00:43:50   component how good can Apple TV if this [TS]

00:43:52   is you know I don't know maybe maybe [TS]

00:43:54   that's my imagination but certainly it's [TS]

00:43:56   true that more and more product [TS]

00:43:58   even if you think of the watch where the [TS]

00:44:01   server is kind of the phone more and [TS]

00:44:03   more products rely on something that is [TS]

00:44:05   not inside the physical device to to do [TS]

00:44:09   like their main job not as a frail or [TS]

00:44:11   something right [TS]

00:44:12   so I I don't know if like no I i found [TS]

00:44:17   is better then got mad cuz you know and [TS]

00:44:20   mobileme and all that other stuff and [TS]

00:44:22   things have improved and they are going [TS]

00:44:23   in the right direction but boy it feels [TS]

00:44:26   like slow going and as that slowly [TS]

00:44:29   evolves [TS]

00:44:30   I like the number of new products the [TS]

00:44:32   end and new platforms for that matter [TS]

00:44:34   that they introduced that rely on server [TS]

00:44:36   infrastructure things to be reliable and [TS]

00:44:39   fast and always available is outpacing [TS]

00:44:41   the quality of their implementation of [TS]

00:44:44   those things so don't be too pessimistic [TS]

00:44:45   I think I feel like it is a positive [TS]

00:44:47   trend but they are apple in this passage [TS]

00:44:51   / characterize it would be a year in [TS]

00:44:53   which they a year or two in which they [TS]

00:44:55   introduced a lot of new platforms and [TS]

00:44:58   every new platform is kind of crappy in [TS]

00:45:00   the beginning and so if you're into the [TS]

00:45:01   whole bunch of new platforms you can [TS]

00:45:03   have a whole year or two of a kind of [TS]

00:45:05   crappy and you gotta give them time to [TS]

00:45:08   get their feet underneath them and every [TS]

00:45:09   platform to go through cycles like the [TS]

00:45:11   mac has been shaky platform that saw the [TS]

00:45:14   shaky than solid and shake it and solid [TS]

00:45:15   and totally in crisis can really grab [TS]

00:45:17   you for a whole bunch of years that's a [TS]

00:45:18   daughter of the last 10 and then solid [TS]

00:45:20   again and shaky again like these things [TS]

00:45:22   go in cycles so i hope will be on an [TS]

00:45:23   upswing with you know I don't know where [TS]

00:45:26   are we and currently in an upswing with [TS]

00:45:27   iOS or downswing i can't i can't really [TS]

00:45:29   tell [TS]

00:45:30   I think we're kind of plateauing with [TS]

00:45:33   like you feel like iOS is is in a [TS]

00:45:35   downswing in terms of the quality as [TS]

00:45:37   compared to like the Golden Age of what [TS]

00:45:39   is that iOS four maybe [TS]

00:45:41   honestly I think iOS is great apple iOS [TS]

00:45:44   on the iphone i think is fantastic [TS]

00:45:46   iOS even on the ipad if it is is in many [TS]

00:45:51   ways still pretty half-assed on the ipad [TS]

00:45:55   like as as its own thing versus the [TS]

00:45:57   iphone like versus just being a blown-up [TS]

00:45:59   phone OS it is still it still needs a [TS]

00:46:01   lot of work to really stand out zone the [TS]

00:46:04   ipad but iOS in general and iOS on the [TS]

00:46:07   iPhone itself i think the current [TS]

00:46:09   version which is which is nine is [TS]

00:46:11   is very solid I i'm very happy with nine [TS]

00:46:13   so like performance see you I [TS]

00:46:15   reliability api's I got all the seams [TS]

00:46:18   like is this a new you know a good a [TS]

00:46:21   good period for iOS we're like the UI [TS]

00:46:24   and seven is kind of had most of the [TS]

00:46:25   kinks worked out of it you feel [TS]

00:46:27   yeah for the most part i mean like you [TS]

00:46:29   know nothing's perfect but I think iOS [TS]

00:46:31   is is pretty solid now both design-wise [TS]

00:46:35   obviously there's a lot that that can [TS]

00:46:37   use improvement with the ios7 design [TS]

00:46:39   language and and some of it i just think [TS]

00:46:42   will not be improved you know some of it [TS]

00:46:44   would require changing that design [TS]

00:46:45   language in ways that i don't think the [TS]

00:46:48   the current software designers and power [TS]

00:46:50   and Apple would ever allow so so i don't [TS]

00:46:52   i don't think it's going to happen but [TS]

00:46:54   overall I i think it's hiding iOS and [TS]

00:46:58   especially i was on the iphone is solid [TS]

00:47:00   there are some things that are weird as [TS]

00:47:02   you mentioned anything that touches the [TS]

00:47:03   cloud service can be weird i don't have [TS]

00:47:05   any how many people out there with with [TS]

00:47:07   iphones are very frequently asked to go [TS]

00:47:10   every enter their iCloud password and [TS]

00:47:12   settings here periodically asked like [TS]

00:47:14   something yeah it comes it's like rain [TS]

00:47:16   that's a dark sky app for what yeah what [TS]

00:47:19   am I going to be asked for my class [TS]

00:47:20   today you're gonna be a 17 times then [TS]

00:47:23   you will not be asked again for three [TS]

00:47:24   weeks [TS]

00:47:25   why I don't know in my case I I very [TS]

00:47:28   frequently will wake up to a phone that [TS]

00:47:30   i need to re-enter my passcode on that [TS]

00:47:32   hasn't rebooted but it just won't do it [TS]

00:47:34   says dr. idea has been more than 48 [TS]

00:47:36   hours and it's been like seven hours [TS]

00:47:38   yeah and so you know it's like there's [TS]

00:47:40   little stuff like that but in general [TS]

00:47:43   using the phone like the the you at the [TS]

00:47:45   OS like in general I would say both iOS [TS]

00:47:48   and Mac os10 in their current versions [TS]

00:47:51   of iOS 9 + l capitana I think both are [TS]

00:47:55   pretty solid pretty good releases I i [TS]

00:47:58   would say that the the apple TV needs a [TS]

00:48:01   lot of work in the softening of the [TS]

00:48:03   actual like the OS level like the the [TS]

00:48:07   like or you know colonel and everything [TS]

00:48:09   seemed fine [TS]

00:48:10   the the UI on the appletv I think it's a [TS]

00:48:13   lot of work it [TS]

00:48:15   it is very much a UI designed to look [TS]

00:48:18   good in screenshots and add [TS]

00:48:20   and very much not a UI design to use [TS]

00:48:22   well at all and the only thing you need [TS]

00:48:24   to do to see this is by TV show on [TS]

00:48:26   iTunes but it's so it's so bad but by TV [TS]

00:48:30   season on itunes it's oh my god like it [TS]

00:48:34   is so like so clearly not designed to [TS]

00:48:36   buy anybody who ever actually has done [TS]

00:48:38   this or needs to do this [TS]

00:48:39   it was designed to look good on the [TS]

00:48:41   screen shot once and it does seem like [TS]

00:48:43   the print marketing group or whoever [TS]

00:48:46   like took over the software UI design I [TS]

00:48:49   think the appletv the new apple TV is is [TS]

00:48:52   an example of how that can go pretty [TS]

00:48:54   badly wrong against usability and and I [TS]

00:48:56   hope they see that and and work on that [TS]

00:48:58   because it is it is pretty rough right [TS]

00:49:00   now in a few areas like that are pretty [TS]

00:49:02   pretty common and to the point where [TS]

00:49:03   like this [TS]

00:49:05   this Christmas you know usually we give [TS]

00:49:07   Apple TV's to our relatives here and [TS]

00:49:08   there and it's Christmas we didn't [TS]

00:49:10   belong to anybody because we don't want [TS]

00:49:12   to support it [TS]

00:49:13   it's yeah it's not it's not a good spot [TS]

00:49:16   but it's got a kind of ironic a way that [TS]

00:49:18   unlike the the print design mentality [TS]

00:49:20   when really what they need is like what [TS]

00:49:22   print design morphed into which is web [TS]

00:49:23   design because when print war one friend [TS]

00:49:25   former to web design they brought on the [TS]

00:49:28   information architecture people to [TS]

00:49:29   explain to them it's not so much but [TS]

00:49:31   your screens look like it's what screens [TS]

00:49:34   are and how they connect to each other [TS]

00:49:35   and how people get a sense of place [TS]

00:49:37   about it and how many screens you know [TS]

00:49:38   like plain-old wireframe information [TS]

00:49:41   architecture came into combined with the [TS]

00:49:43   print people to say when you do web [TS]

00:49:44   design is not a bunch of pages you have [TS]

00:49:46   to actually design you know the the [TS]

00:49:48   information flow and how it's connected [TS]

00:49:50   now it's organized in a way that makes [TS]

00:49:52   sense to people allows them to get where [TS]

00:49:53   they want to go in a reasonable fashion [TS]

00:49:55   and not feel lost and all that other [TS]

00:49:56   stuff whereas yeah that I feel about the [TS]

00:49:59   apple TV with a lot of the screens look [TS]

00:50:01   really good but they're they're not [TS]

00:50:04   connected to each other in a sensible [TS]

00:50:05   way they seem to be too many of them [TS]

00:50:07   and a lot of time I I feel like I'm [TS]

00:50:10   going through too many screens or i'd [TS]

00:50:11   i'd lose track of where I am so that's [TS]

00:50:13   that's just plain old straight up a [TS]

00:50:15   rally polar bear book business [TS]

00:50:18   yeah so that is one thing on my wish [TS]

00:50:20   list i really hope that the apple TV [TS]

00:50:23   gets just some some UI tweaks to make it [TS]

00:50:26   more usable because right now it is it [TS]

00:50:29   is so poorly usable in in so many little [TS]

00:50:33   areas like that and it seems like the [TS]

00:50:35   fix is not difficult it just takes some [TS]

00:50:37   rethinking of certain screen layouts and [TS]

00:50:40   and so I i hope they do that so that is [TS]

00:50:43   that one item that market forces that is [TS]

00:50:45   that counts to one item is he saying [TS]

00:50:47   that he thinks what what he wants to see [TS]

00:50:49   is the apple TV getting some [TS]

00:50:53   improvements some reasonable improvement [TS]

00:50:55   because the same platform as a lot of [TS]

00:50:57   obvious things they can do [TS]

00:50:58   yeah and also I mean while i'm talking [TS]

00:51:00   about the apple TV i would also say you [TS]

00:51:03   know this is this has a brand new app [TS]

00:51:05   store the implementation of the store [TS]

00:51:07   itself is pretty bad and i would love to [TS]

00:51:09   see that improved as well and and in the [TS]

00:51:12   area of apps for the apple TV you know [TS]

00:51:15   it's still very early there are there [TS]

00:51:17   are very few apps available for it i [TS]

00:51:19   would love to see you know whenever a [TS]

00:51:21   new platform comes out you have people [TS]

00:51:23   like an apple TV I know guide which has [TS]

00:51:25   talked a lot about this on his podcast [TS]

00:51:26   and blog like you kinda want to see like [TS]

00:51:30   not just porting iphone apps to it but [TS]

00:51:33   we want to look what-what new kinds of [TS]

00:51:35   apps [TS]

00:51:36   does this make possible that we haven't [TS]

00:51:38   thought of yet and on the appletv we [TS]

00:51:40   haven't seen that yet [TS]

00:51:41   I i'm curious to know if during 2016 we [TS]

00:51:44   will see some new kind of app take off [TS]

00:51:47   on the appletv that that wouldn't work [TS]

00:51:50   just as well or better on a phone like [TS]

00:51:51   something that really take advantage of [TS]

00:51:53   being a TV app you know so i would love [TS]

00:51:55   to see that come from the third-party [TS]

00:51:57   community and I hope it does I really do [TS]

00:52:00   hope it does and i also hope that the [TS]

00:52:01   appletv becomes a first-class game [TS]

00:52:05   platform to release on for iOS games [TS]

00:52:08   like I i I'm gonna have a pie-in-the-sky [TS]

00:52:10   buzzer on that one [TS]

00:52:11   no I know I know that like that like [TS]

00:52:13   obviously like I'm not expecting get [TS]

00:52:16   like console games to be launched to it [TS]

00:52:17   but but I think games that are launching [TS]

00:52:19   on iOS [TS]

00:52:20   or that are that are having success in [TS]

00:52:22   iOS i hope that they get ported quickly [TS]

00:52:25   to the apple TV or launched [TS]

00:52:26   simultaneously would be like probably [TS]

00:52:28   the finest gotta go for now but it would [TS]

00:52:30   be nice to see it get more gaming status [TS]

00:52:33   because it is really fun to play good [TS]

00:52:35   games on the appletv but I that I think [TS]

00:52:38   you know if I would if this is the [TS]

00:52:40   predictions episode I would honestly [TS]

00:52:42   predict neither of those things happen [TS]

00:52:44   either it being a first-party thing for [TS]

00:52:46   games nor us seeing some really amazing [TS]

00:52:48   ask for i would actually say neither of [TS]

00:52:49   us are likely to happen but there but [TS]

00:52:52   they're both plausible and I and they're [TS]

00:52:54   both things that I wish would happen so [TS]

00:52:56   how are we summarizing the 93 points you [TS]

00:52:58   just made apple TV colon get better [TS]

00:53:01   yeah there you go he had some definitely [TS]

00:53:04   some plausible things that could be done [TS]

00:53:05   to apple TV i think it drifted off into [TS]

00:53:07   into unicorns in the beginning are you [TS]

00:53:09   get a pass for now you don't have to [TS]

00:53:11   worry about that goodness I'd okc your [TS]

00:53:13   turn [TS]

00:53:15   so I have a handful and what I want to [TS]

00:53:18   use first ok i will use App Store [TS]

00:53:21   improvements that app store colon get [TS]

00:53:24   better and i think that it's easy for me [TS]

00:53:28   to to make these sorts of wishes and [TS]

00:53:32   hopes and dreams and and decisions from [TS]

00:53:35   the position of someone who really this [TS]

00:53:37   is this doesn't affect me but for those [TS]

00:53:39   friends that I have like Marco like [TS]

00:53:41   underscore and so many others that they [TS]

00:53:43   try to make a living out of the app [TS]

00:53:44   store i would really love to see things [TS]

00:53:49   get better for independent developers [TS]

00:53:51   and I I'm not really clear how I mean a [TS]

00:53:54   lot of the the standard answers like [TS]

00:53:56   trials and things like that that may or [TS]

00:53:58   may not improve things but whatever the [TS]

00:54:00   answer is especially what with the [TS]

00:54:03   shake-up that we discussed be the last [TS]

00:54:04   week in week 4 i'd really like to see [TS]

00:54:07   and I think it's plausible to see the [TS]

00:54:09   appstore get better actually but both [TS]

00:54:12   for independent developers which is how [TS]

00:54:13   is originally coming at this but also [TS]

00:54:15   for users you'll see search get better [TS]

00:54:17   to see things like a Home Sharing I've [TS]

00:54:20   never tried because I was petrified of [TS]

00:54:22   trying because I've heard it's terrible [TS]

00:54:24   all of that can we just make that better [TS]

00:54:26   please [TS]

00:54:27   that's pretty vague item i mean it is is [TS]

00:54:29   plausible definitely possible give you [TS]

00:54:30   picked one thing for example say you [TS]

00:54:32   picked up great pricing [TS]

00:54:33   hundred percent plausible that is merely [TS]

00:54:35   a policy change it could happen you [TS]

00:54:36   could have said but instead you just [TS]

00:54:38   kind of pointed and said I want [TS]

00:54:39   something better to happen for the app [TS]

00:54:41   store but you're not willing to say what [TS]

00:54:42   that is i can see that is definitely a [TS]

00:54:44   lot of plausible things [TS]

00:54:45   yeah and I think the thing of it is that [TS]

00:54:47   I'm not so convinced that all the things [TS]

00:54:50   everyone's been whining about our the [TS]

00:54:52   right answer [TS]

00:54:53   they may be CEO upgrade pricing might [TS]

00:54:55   help a lot trials might help a lot but [TS]

00:54:59   i'm not sure those are the silver [TS]

00:55:01   bullets everyone says they are and i [TS]

00:55:03   haven't been able to come up with the [TS]

00:55:04   silver bullet and i'm pretty sure if i [TS]

00:55:06   if i could i I would be much better [TS]

00:55:09   compensated than i am and i probably [TS]

00:55:11   working at apple but whatever the answer [TS]

00:55:13   maybe there's gotta be something out [TS]

00:55:15   there's gotta be a way to make things [TS]

00:55:17   better [TS]

00:55:17   maybe it's more transparency let ok I'll [TS]

00:55:19   go with that because just a little bit [TS]

00:55:21   more transparency now you might have to [TS]

00:55:23   hit the pie in the sky buzzer but now [TS]

00:55:25   better than anyone like to say that like [TS]

00:55:27   that the problem when one app developers [TS]

00:55:30   have their application review and they [TS]

00:55:32   have just like a status line with a [TS]

00:55:33   canned message that tells them what [TS]

00:55:35   phase it's in or when it gets rejected [TS]

00:55:38   like the fact that they can't [TS]

00:55:41   immediately connect with someone to have [TS]

00:55:44   a humane discussion about the issues at [TS]

00:55:47   hand like that just is like some [TS]

00:55:49   misunderstanding will be cleared up with [TS]

00:55:50   a five-minute conversation with a person [TS]

00:55:52   who is empowered to do something in that [TS]

00:55:53   conversation can never happen to you can [TS]

00:55:55   send email you can sit and wait for a [TS]

00:55:57   response [TS]

00:55:58   sometimes the response makes it clear [TS]

00:55:59   they didn't understand what you said and [TS]

00:56:01   just like I don't know if you call a [TS]

00:56:02   transparency or like communication or [TS]

00:56:05   like maybe it's a scaling problems can't [TS]

00:56:06   have individual people talk to [TS]

00:56:09   individual developers about their [TS]

00:56:10   problems with your applications and a [TS]

00:56:11   lot of it has to be canned responses but [TS]

00:56:13   yeah I think that could definitely [TS]

00:56:15   improve even if you just through [TS]

00:56:17   manpower and a charwoman power our human [TS]

00:56:20   power but just a higher power more [TS]

00:56:22   people to you know so there's someone [TS]

00:56:25   always someone available the [TS]

00:56:27   knowledgeable person available to [TS]

00:56:29   discuss and a projection to explain what [TS]

00:56:32   the deal is what needs to be done to fix [TS]

00:56:34   it if there's a misunderstanding going [TS]

00:56:36   on you know because at one of the ones [TS]

00:56:38   I've ever seen a couple times is someone [TS]

00:56:41   will submit an application and I'll get [TS]

00:56:43   rejected for reading or writing files [TS]

00:56:45   from her forbidden ok [TS]

00:56:46   ocean but the code that is reading or [TS]

00:56:48   writing forbidden files is from inside [TS]

00:56:49   an apple framework and it's not clear [TS]

00:56:53   like did I use the framework wrong that [TS]

00:56:55   called that i miss configure it and call [TS]

00:56:57   an API you know that on some kind of [TS]

00:56:59   misconfigured object and that's why i [TS]

00:57:01   wrote an overall bad place or is it a [TS]

00:57:03   bug in Apple's own code where number how [TS]

00:57:05   you use API it has the potential to [TS]

00:57:07   write files on a forbidden place or [TS]

00:57:08   whatever and so developers who get that [TS]

00:57:10   message i get that rejection like what [TS]

00:57:13   what do i do not come because I not use [TS]

00:57:15   that framework because it's like as far [TS]

00:57:16   as they're concerned it's not their code [TS]

00:57:18   that's doing it and all the need is [TS]

00:57:20   someone who ever did this rejection but [TS]

00:57:21   if Apple even knows to say oh you know [TS]

00:57:23   you there [TS]

00:57:24   you know I know it's our code doing it [TS]

00:57:26   but it's because you're using our API [TS]

00:57:28   and the wrong way using like this that [TS]

00:57:30   and it causes the right files here if [TS]

00:57:32   you use it in this other way I want to [TS]

00:57:33   that or have someone have the [TS]

00:57:35   conversation and go oh you're right [TS]

00:57:36   you're not doing anything wrong that's [TS]

00:57:38   just a bug in our framework and those [TS]

00:57:40   conversations either seem to happen way [TS]

00:57:43   too slowly or not happen at all and a [TS]

00:57:45   lot of developers get frustrated by you [TS]

00:57:48   know a rejection that's not actionable [TS]

00:57:50   like they don't know what it is they [TS]

00:57:51   just throw up their hands and say well [TS]

00:57:52   what am I supposed to do about that and [TS]

00:57:53   I'm not supposed to use the framework am [TS]

00:57:55   i doing something on it and some [TS]

00:57:56   respects like well you know it's not [TS]

00:57:58   apples job to write your application for [TS]

00:57:59   you but I don't know I've seen enough of [TS]

00:58:02   those cases that I think a a better more [TS]

00:58:05   human connection with the faceless [TS]

00:58:08   machine that is a perv you could benefit [TS]

00:58:10   all developers me to me like my 2016 [TS]

00:58:13   wish in regards to appstore improvement [TS]

00:58:15   is much more broad and vague because [TS]

00:58:19   honestly i don't expect a lot of these [TS]

00:58:22   things that you've mentioned happen [TS]

00:58:24   my wish is simply show us a sign that [TS]

00:58:30   things might be changing for the better [TS]

00:58:32   because you know like we got the the [TS]

00:58:35   phil taking over thing last week show us [TS]

00:58:38   a sign of movement in the right [TS]

00:58:40   direction in actual app store status or [TS]

00:58:43   behavior or policy for years the [TS]

00:58:46   attitude of the appstore shown by both [TS]

00:58:50   their communication and by the other [TS]

00:58:52   action or rather in action for the most [TS]

00:58:54   part the attitude has been really [TS]

00:58:57   nothing here needs needs to be changed [TS]

00:58:58   everything is fine [TS]

00:58:59   and we know that the system we have now [TS]

00:59:01   is good and works well in reality the [TS]

00:59:04   system they have now is ok and works ok [TS]

00:59:07   but it I i would not say that there's no [TS]

00:59:11   room for improvement where the attitude [TS]

00:59:13   from them keeps being by by their [TS]

00:59:15   actions he's being we don't need to [TS]

00:59:17   improve this because they really just [TS]

00:59:19   haven't you know so i would like to see [TS]

00:59:22   you some sign that they believe that [TS]

00:59:25   they agree inside that they believe that [TS]

00:59:28   there are things that could use [TS]

00:59:29   significant improvement and that they [TS]

00:59:31   are working on them because we really [TS]

00:59:33   have seen nothing of that sort so far [TS]

00:59:35   you just want to like issue an apology [TS]

00:59:36   or making a statement of purpose or make [TS]

00:59:39   it make a mission statement to say we [TS]

00:59:41   agree things are wrong and we will fix [TS]

00:59:42   them somehow vaguely know i mean i would [TS]

00:59:45   like to see action but it doesn't have [TS]

00:59:47   to be a big action yet just like some [TS]

00:59:49   kind of action that shows that that they [TS]

00:59:52   are changing things in the after that [TS]

00:59:54   they are not satisfied with the asteroid [TS]

00:59:55   let something like they appear so [TS]

00:59:57   incredibly satisfied with it and that [TS]

00:59:59   and [TS]

00:59:59   and [TS]

01:00:00   just so little has changed about it in [TS]

01:00:02   seven years where like I i guess i want [TS]

01:00:05   to see something that indicates that [TS]

01:00:07   Apple truly believes this is not good [TS]

01:00:10   enough [TS]

01:00:10   Casey said that he didn't know you know [TS]

01:00:12   like it didn't have any specific plans [TS]

01:00:13   maybe trials on it maybe upgrade pricing [TS]

01:00:16   isn't it wasn't sure exactly what it was [TS]

01:00:18   well apples not sure sure about the same [TS]

01:00:21   things they're not sure that because if [TS]

01:00:23   they were sure that upgrades and fix it [TS]

01:00:24   they would do it they sure the trials [TS]

01:00:25   would make things better they would do [TS]

01:00:26   it so obviously they also agree with you [TS]

01:00:28   Casey they're not quite sure what to do [TS]

01:00:29   and so they're doing nothing and like [TS]

01:00:32   it's the same same thing with markers [TS]

01:00:34   request here if you don't have a [TS]

01:00:35   specific thing like i know you want [TS]

01:00:38   something to happen but someone inside [TS]

01:00:40   Apple have to pick which thing it is and [TS]

01:00:43   it's potentially dangerous could say [TS]

01:00:44   you're wrong and trials makes the [TS]

01:00:46   appstore worse instead of better I yeah [TS]

01:00:48   I mean I guess that kind of film archos [TS]

01:00:50   things at least we'll be showing what we [TS]

01:00:51   tried something at least instead of just [TS]

01:00:52   saying I work you know like but i think [TS]

01:00:55   the impression you're getting Margo is [TS]

01:00:56   like because if they don't do anything [TS]

01:00:57   we just assume i guess they must make [TS]

01:00:59   its fine because they never do anything [TS]

01:01:00   it doesn't change yes and so it's like [TS]

01:01:03   yeah and so them doing something even [TS]

01:01:05   who was the wrong thing would at least [TS]

01:01:07   show that they have some internal [TS]

01:01:09   dissatisfaction it could be argued they [TS]

01:01:11   the management reshuffle it counts as [TS]

01:01:13   something even though it is not a change [TS]

01:01:15   yet that affects developers it does at [TS]

01:01:18   least show that they think there's [TS]

01:01:19   something amiss somewhere inside apples [TS]

01:01:21   organization whether they think the [TS]

01:01:22   thing that's in this is the app store or [TS]

01:01:25   some other thing that was affected by [TS]

01:01:26   the shuffle we don't know but uh know [TS]

01:01:28   how do i can let that one slide by [TS]

01:01:30   because it is definitely plausible that [TS]

01:01:32   it will do something what something [TS]

01:01:34   vague will not specified [TS]

01:01:36   hey if I had to scrape the system [TS]

01:01:39   somehow just for you [TS]

01:01:40   alright what's your first by here you [TS]

01:01:43   guys are gonna be vague and big picture [TS]

01:01:45   minds are just so super specific and so [TS]

01:01:48   easy i want to know Mac Pro so does [TS]

01:01:51   Marco so does everybody everyone who [TS]

01:01:53   doesn't want to hang around a macro [TS]

01:01:55   every play [TS]

01:01:57   it's a new mac pro with the you know [TS]

01:02:01   thunderball three and and my sub item is [TS]

01:02:04   a new 5k external display to drive off [TS]

01:02:06   the thing like if we all know we want it [TS]

01:02:08   we know it has to be coming just make a [TS]

01:02:11   new mac pro is entirely possible [TS]

01:02:13   represent plausible and it should come [TS]

01:02:14   in 2016 and when it comes I'll be [TS]

01:02:16   excited because i like that and i might [TS]

01:02:18   even buy one [TS]

01:02:19   yeah this is I have this i have that [TS]

01:02:21   also on my list of course under a [TS]

01:02:24   heading of just complete the retina [TS]

01:02:27   transition and so what this would have [TS]

01:02:29   to include is a desktop standalone 5k [TS]

01:02:32   display and the ability for the mac pro [TS]

01:02:37   and the laptops to drive it and and [TS]

01:02:41   maybe the mac mini as well be nice i'm [TS]

01:02:43   not expecting much on that front because [TS]

01:02:45   that many is so really updated but that [TS]

01:02:47   would be nice [TS]

01:02:47   people look up screens to make monies [TS]

01:02:49   that are tvs are yes so yeah I totally I [TS]

01:02:54   mean and and this is very plausible [TS]

01:02:55   because this is this is going to be the [TS]

01:02:59   year of Sky lake and and you know we we [TS]

01:03:01   got like little trickle sky like so far [TS]

01:03:03   2016 should be if intel has everything [TS]

01:03:06   together which is not a given but if [TS]

01:03:08   they have everything together [TS]

01:03:09   this should be the year of the sky like [TS]

01:03:11   everywhere so this should be the laptops [TS]

01:03:14   finally all them all the pros going [TS]

01:03:16   skylake the macbook one going to Sky [TS]

01:03:18   lake and getting us USBC port upgraded [TS]

01:03:20   to also have Thunderbolt coming out of [TS]

01:03:22   it [TS]

01:03:22   the macbook pro retina line I I expect [TS]

01:03:26   to be not only upgrade to Sky like but [TS]

01:03:28   to also get a redesign we've heard [TS]

01:03:30   rumors here in the will and i think the [TS]

01:03:32   timing is right because the current [TS]

01:03:33   design came out 2012 and Scarlett gives [TS]

01:03:35   them an excuse to make the battery [TS]

01:03:36   smaller so i expect there to be a [TS]

01:03:39   macbook pro sky like refresh this is [TS]

01:03:41   start getting into predictions me that [TS]

01:03:43   but this is all just part of it you like [TS]

01:03:45   I want this to be finally completing the [TS]

01:03:49   the retina transition in the mac lineup [TS]

01:03:52   because it has been partially complete [TS]

01:03:54   literally since 2012 and we are so close [TS]

01:03:58   we're so close and and we're just not [TS]

01:04:00   quite there yet until we can get sky [TS]

01:04:03   like that can drive scarlet chipset with [TS]

01:04:05   Thunderbolt three that can drive extra [TS]

01:04:07   5k displays or personal cable and and [TS]

01:04:09   that is so close we are so close to that [TS]

01:04:12   do you want to see them get rid of the [TS]

01:04:13   macbook air so here's what I think will [TS]

01:04:16   happen on that front not what you think [TS]

01:04:17   will happen do you want them together [TS]

01:04:19   like would you be happy like if you [TS]

01:04:20   could if you could tell Apple to do [TS]

01:04:22   essentially is discontinuing in the [TS]

01:04:24   macbook air is entirely [TS]

01:04:25   feasible so if you were in charge of [TS]

01:04:26   Apple you say you know in 2016 stop [TS]

01:04:28   making a macbook air [TS]

01:04:30   first of all and i think that would be [TS]

01:04:31   too soon I I wouldn't i would expect the [TS]

01:04:34   macbook air to get updates from now on a [TS]

01:04:36   similar schedule to win the mac mini [TS]

01:04:38   kiss updates i would expect that they [TS]

01:04:41   wouldn't get rid of the air without [TS]

01:04:42   compelling things taking its place so [TS]

01:04:44   obviously on the low end you have the [TS]

01:04:46   macbook one but the macbook one really [TS]

01:04:49   does not replace the air in a number of [TS]

01:04:53   ways because it is so much slower and so [TS]

01:04:56   much more limited has so many more [TS]

01:04:57   compromises for that for that thinness [TS]

01:05:00   than even the air does i do think though [TS]

01:05:02   that when they redesign the the sky lake [TS]

01:05:05   macbook pros the retina macbook pro I do [TS]

01:05:08   think the the newly thinner lighter [TS]

01:05:11   13-inch retina MacBook Pro will be so [TS]

01:05:15   close to it to the 13-inch macbook air [TS]

01:05:17   that i think it will make the macbook [TS]

01:05:19   air far less relevant so then on the low [TS]

01:05:22   end you have the macbook one eating into [TS]

01:05:26   the 11-inch and then you have the the [TS]

01:05:28   new thinner 13-inch macbook pro eating [TS]

01:05:31   into the 13-inch air and then I think [TS]

01:05:33   the airline is pretty much obviously at [TS]

01:05:35   that point that doesn't mean Apple will [TS]

01:05:37   stop selling it because Kurt today's [TS]

01:05:38   Apple does not stop selling anything [TS]

01:05:40   ever [TS]

01:05:40   but i do think that both ends will then [TS]

01:05:43   be adequately attacked and will be [TS]

01:05:46   clearly replaced for most air buyers at [TS]

01:05:49   that point so Marco you would said that [TS]

01:05:53   you want a new mac pro and God help me [TS]

01:05:57   for encouraging you to talk about this [TS]

01:05:58   more but why what would this phantom new [TS]

01:06:02   mac pro do for you that your and i don't [TS]

01:06:05   mean that sarcastically beloved I'm a 5k [TS]

01:06:08   imac doesn't do for the most part i'm [TS]

01:06:12   not sure i would get the next generation [TS]

01:06:15   mac pro i might get the one after that [TS]

01:06:17   ultimately what I want out of my [TS]

01:06:19   computer that the current imac is not [TS]

01:06:21   satisfying me with is just even more [TS]

01:06:24   sheer cpu performance like that I i [TS]

01:06:27   always want more cpu performance than [TS]

01:06:29   what i have and the way Intel's moving [TS]

01:06:31   these days new cpu performance does not [TS]

01:06:34   come easily [TS]

01:06:35   it does not come quickly skylight is [TS]

01:06:38   isn't a substantial boost not not like [TS]

01:06:40   you know twice as fast but it's you know [TS]

01:06:42   it's faster by a noticeable amount and i [TS]

01:06:45   would i would get way more course i [TS]

01:06:47   would probably go 8-core if i got a Mac [TS]

01:06:49   Pro maybe even 12 but if that would [TS]

01:06:51   probably insanely price so i would [TS]

01:06:53   probably go with eight as time goes on [TS]

01:06:55   my cpu needs just are increasing you [TS]

01:06:57   know I now i'm taking way more pictures [TS]

01:07:00   and that now they have this awesome new [TS]

01:07:01   camera process those pictures is insane [TS]

01:07:03   i'm shooting 4k video now with my [TS]

01:07:06   awesome iphone camera and my fancy [TS]

01:07:08   camera even more the iphone and some [TS]

01:07:09   dealing with bigger video files with [TS]

01:07:11   bigger photos as I'm compiling your code [TS]

01:07:13   and i'll be transitioning to Swift [TS]

01:07:15   fairly soon all the cpu needs everything [TS]

01:07:17   keep going up for comfort compilation [TS]

01:07:19   and everything so ultimately I push my [TS]

01:07:22   computer to the limit fairly often in my [TS]

01:07:25   work and you know not for like massively [TS]

01:07:28   long sustained periods for the most part [TS]

01:07:30   but for like brief periods of I just [TS]

01:07:33   need all the horsepower i can get for [TS]

01:07:34   the next two minutes kind of thing and I [TS]

01:07:36   do that kind of thing frequently so I [TS]

01:07:38   really would like more cpu power and [TS]

01:07:41   that's that is mainly what I've been [TS]

01:07:42   looking for in in all other ways i'm [TS]

01:07:45   extremely happy with this with the time [TS]

01:07:46   act and even cpu power wise versus the [TS]

01:07:50   wife is available today it is at the top [TS]

01:07:52   for single-threaded I go I guess the the [TS]

01:07:55   newer Broadwell based one probably be to [TS]

01:07:57   buy a few percentage points but it is [TS]

01:07:59   relative to the entire math lab it is it [TS]

01:08:01   is one of the like top couple or cut top [TS]

01:08:03   three that have ever existed in [TS]

01:08:05   single-threaded performance and even in [TS]

01:08:07   multi-core it is pretty far up the list [TS]

01:08:10   until you go to the very high court [TS]

01:08:12   count mac pros so it is it is really [TS]

01:08:14   close to as good as you can get already [TS]

01:08:16   that's why I'm saying like I would [TS]

01:08:18   probably wait a generation of mac pro [TS]

01:08:20   but I don't know the generations keeping [TS]

01:08:23   two or three years long that might [TS]

01:08:25   change it so that the matter has a [TS]

01:08:26   timing issue because the the Zeon's that [TS]

01:08:29   that it would use that would go in and [TS]

01:08:32   update the the Broadwell Zeon's are [TS]

01:08:34   coming out next week but though that [TS]

01:08:36   chipset will not support Thunderbolt [TS]

01:08:38   three so that chipset most likely won't [TS]

01:08:41   be able to drive a theoretical 5k apple [TS]

01:08:44   display but the sky lake city are coming [TS]

01:08:46   out you know quote later this year that [TS]

01:08:49   would be a way better chip to use in a [TS]

01:08:50   macpro updated the [TS]

01:08:52   three because then you could read the [TS]

01:08:53   whole thing with Thunderbolt three USBC [TS]

01:08:56   port and the ability to drive new 52 [TS]

01:08:59   monitor so I hope that's what they do [TS]

01:09:02   I don't know that's what the loop but I [TS]

01:09:03   hope they will wait for sky like eat [TS]

01:09:05   chips and thank us and I saw that and if [TS]

01:09:07   they do that would be a really [TS]

01:09:10   interesting option for me to consider [TS]

01:09:12   but i probably would probably still [TS]

01:09:14   wanna way to generation just to get a [TS]

01:09:16   bigger boost over what i have now you're [TS]

01:09:18   talking like me now all I don't want to [TS]

01:09:20   buy this one I wanted by the next one [TS]

01:09:21   but the the president's historically is [TS]

01:09:23   that you do buy this one and also the [TS]

01:09:25   next one truth that that's usually the [TS]

01:09:26   case yeah well once I learned how easy [TS]

01:09:28   it is to resell max it it makes it a lot [TS]

01:09:31   easier than that then becomes like well [TS]

01:09:33   is it worth spending like you know a [TS]

01:09:35   thousand dollars to use this computer [TS]

01:09:36   for 18 months and it's like sometimes [TS]

01:09:38   the answer is yes you know yet if if you [TS]

01:09:41   can get like the best computer in the [TS]

01:09:43   world for what you do every single day [TS]

01:09:44   by it when it comes out and installed a [TS]

01:09:47   year later for you know five hundred to [TS]

01:09:49   a thousand dollars less than what you [TS]

01:09:50   paid that's not that bad [TS]

01:09:52   that's pretty good actually it's always [TS]

01:09:53   the mega college of business you could [TS]

01:09:55   be the only client to make it as a rent [TS]

01:09:57   to you max like they rent to head phones [TS]

01:09:59   and cameras right yeah so I mean I guess [TS]

01:10:01   that's fine and make sense knowledge i'm [TS]

01:10:04   surprised that you really are cpu-bound [TS]

01:10:06   that often because about the only time [TS]

01:10:07   cpu-bound is what I'm you're compressing [TS]

01:10:09   video files that have like ripped from a [TS]

01:10:10   blu-ray or something like that it's so [TS]

01:10:12   rare that i'm cpu-bound on anything else [TS]

01:10:14   that i do I don't know [TS]

01:10:16   alright so who's turn is it now Marcos i [TS]

01:10:19   believe i made basically least it's [TS]

01:10:21   still Johnny Mac Pro topic but you have [TS]

01:10:23   in your list it was a duplicate [TS]

01:10:25   yeah it really is you know for me it [TS]

01:10:26   really is part of this kind of this [TS]

01:10:27   general thing of like it's good i hope [TS]

01:10:29   to be the year of sky like everywhere [TS]

01:10:31   and also finally finished the retina [TS]

01:10:33   transition on Mac finally cover the [TS]

01:10:35   whole product line with retina now I [TS]

01:10:37   know how to feel so the market is it [TS]

01:10:38   cannot follow instructions know all [TS]

01:10:40   about what he predicts what he just no [TS]

01:10:43   that's a wish that's because that is not [TS]

01:10:44   that is not guaranteed you know like [TS]

01:10:47   this this 5k display might not actually [TS]

01:10:49   come out [TS]

01:10:50   yeah you know it the new mac pro using [TS]

01:10:52   scarlet might not come out or Michael [TS]

01:10:54   not using Broadwell and not have [TS]

01:10:56   Thunderbolt three for the next three [TS]

01:10:57   years we have neglected [TS]

01:10:59   yeah like my eyes and my items are two [TS]

01:11:02   things like I want a new mac pro even if [TS]

01:11:05   its [TS]

01:11:05   the broad one and the sub items i'm [TS]

01:11:07   gonna do 5k display and so if I get one [TS]

01:11:09   of those i got a Mac Pro yeah I'm glad [TS]

01:11:11   it was because here's what here's what i [TS]

01:11:13   want to do micro even though it doesn't [TS]

01:11:14   drive the five guys playing even though [TS]

01:11:15   I've said that i'm not gonna buy it [TS]

01:11:16   until it does a new macro would signal [TS]

01:11:20   that hit that the mac pro is not on the [TS]

01:11:22   mac mini update cycle you don't mean [TS]

01:11:24   like that is a line of computers that [TS]

01:11:26   they consider updating on something [TS]

01:11:28   approaching a reasonable schedule based [TS]

01:11:30   on the availability of the chips that [TS]

01:11:32   everyone thinks they should put in [TS]

01:11:33   unlike the mini which is like skipped a [TS]

01:11:35   year or two whatever then someone wakes [TS]

01:11:37   up because not many what [TS]

01:11:38   alright yeah here's another one that [TS]

01:11:40   goes back to sleep again i would like to [TS]

01:11:43   see some sort of solid story i guess [TS]

01:11:49   around Swift on the server something [TS]

01:11:51   that's that's considered that's [TS]

01:11:53   deliberate that's well thought out some [TS]

01:11:56   sort of nice Swift on the server package [TS]

01:11:59   setup framework whatever adjective you'd [TS]

01:12:02   like to use I want to switch on the [TS]

01:12:04   server I think that'd be cool [TS]

01:12:06   from Apple are from somebody else don't [TS]

01:12:08   care i mean from Apple be better I guess [TS]

01:12:10   since its first party but really if [TS]

01:12:12   there was some accepted and understood [TS]

01:12:15   standard I would really love to see it's [TS]

01:12:18   something we would not one of those [TS]

01:12:19   situations like copepods vs Carthage or [TS]

01:12:22   anything like that like an [TS]

01:12:23   honest-to-goodness good robust mature as [TS]

01:12:27   much as it can be given this is all new [TS]

01:12:29   swift on the server framework I think [TS]

01:12:32   that would be really really awesome i [TS]

01:12:33   almost had an item like that on my list [TS]

01:12:35   but I didn't quite know how to phrase it [TS]

01:12:36   and I have obviously more demanding [TS]

01:12:38   about avoiding vagueness than either of [TS]

01:12:41   you are I was like yeah you know like it [TS]

01:12:43   like a maybe you know we just need a [TS]

01:12:47   bunch of libraries for HTTP or just [TS]

01:12:50   handling the protocol and then like you [TS]

01:12:52   know sort of web frameworks on top of [TS]

01:12:54   that or another possibility is some [TS]

01:12:58   standardized way to talk to databases [TS]

01:13:01   from a swift you know like it is there [TS]

01:13:03   so many pieces i'm thinking obviously [TS]

01:13:05   you know quote-unquote web applications [TS]

01:13:07   or web applications may just be [TS]

01:13:09   something that that you no exception [TS]

01:13:11   returns JSON over HTTP is that web [TS]

01:13:13   application or you know but just what we [TS]

01:13:15   think of as when you say server-side [TS]

01:13:16   think that's what we're all [TS]

01:13:17   about like not many people are making [TS]

01:13:19   service these days that aren't talking [TS]

01:13:21   HTTP right and so that i don't know if [TS]

01:13:26   you need like especially in the first [TS]

01:13:29   year like IE it's too much to ask i [TS]

01:13:31   think to say oh there should be a giant [TS]

01:13:34   plug proliferation of web framework [TS]

01:13:37   things and they should all do get out [TS]

01:13:38   until one clear Victor emerges like it's [TS]

01:13:40   gonna take like five years right so [TS]

01:13:42   maybe we'll start smaller and say how [TS]

01:13:44   about just a standard for starting the [TS]

01:13:47   server listening on a port dealing with [TS]

01:13:49   HTTP sending and receiving requests in [TS]

01:13:52   sending responses sort of the bare-bones [TS]

01:13:53   the equivalent of you know wsgi and [TS]

01:13:57   Python or PSG I plaque and pearl or [TS]

01:13:59   whatever like maybe we start with that [TS]

01:14:01   that seems like a reasonable year one [TS]

01:14:03   year goal and even there but they'll be [TS]

01:14:05   like five competing standards and they [TS]

01:14:06   have to just Duke it out and then the [TS]

01:14:08   second year will be clear which one is [TS]

01:14:10   the best support or whatever yeah I I i [TS]

01:14:12   would really like that too i just didn't [TS]

01:14:14   know how to phrase it [TS]

01:14:15   yeah and I mean people have started [TS]

01:14:17   doing this there's a tailor which the [TS]

01:14:20   chat room is linking me to put that in [TS]

01:14:22   the show notes I feel like there was [TS]

01:14:23   something else with a really cheesy name [TS]

01:14:25   and that was one called nest i think i'm [TS]

01:14:27   not familiar with that those wasn't one [TS]

01:14:28   called like perfect or something that [TS]

01:14:30   i'm sure there's like 19 of them like it [TS]

01:14:31   exactly we will we're asking for is like [TS]

01:14:34   there to be one or two [TS]

01:14:35   let's get that are really good well [TS]

01:14:37   supported debugged the people are [TS]

01:14:39   building things on like it's really a [TS]

01:14:41   tough year one called like I mean I i [TS]

01:14:43   think we'll be making progress in it but [TS]

01:14:45   anytime you sort of give this kind of [TS]

01:14:47   playground to people [TS]

01:14:49   no pun intended there they're just going [TS]

01:14:51   to everyone's going to try a whole bunch [TS]

01:14:52   of things and there's i don't know if [TS]

01:14:53   you can really fast forward through that [TS]

01:14:55   to get to the end part where we all [TS]

01:14:57   decide on jquery or whatever and ready [TS]

01:14:59   to begin we have to do [TS]

01:15:01   yeah I don't wanna bring JavaScript into [TS]

01:15:03   this is too painful [TS]

01:15:05   God even new JavaScript alright have any [TS]

01:15:08   other thoughts on this or should we move [TS]

01:15:09   back to John [TS]

01:15:10   alright John alright so my second or [TS]

01:15:14   third if you count the 5k display item [TS]

01:15:16   list and I'm gonna throw this out there [TS]

01:15:17   but remember this is not a prediction [TS]

01:15:19   not a prediction new file system did a [TS]

01:15:22   system for 40 s 10 and for iOS sure they [TS]

01:15:26   can have it too if they really want [TS]

01:15:28   that's fine i think it's plausible [TS]

01:15:31   how long has apple menu new file system [TS]

01:15:33   for a really really long time they [TS]

01:15:36   should have been working on this for [TS]

01:15:37   years and years and years and years and [TS]

01:15:38   years and they should be working out and [TS]

01:15:40   they have been like they've worked long [TS]

01:15:42   enough to have a ZFS dead end with many [TS]

01:15:44   years back [TS]

01:15:45   like I feel like it is plausible I don't [TS]

01:15:47   think it's gonna happen i feel like if i [TS]

01:15:49   had to predict that would say 20 17 ish [TS]

01:15:51   but it is plausible and so when I sit [TS]

01:15:53   down to watch WWE see whether in person [TS]

01:15:56   or remotely in 2016 [TS]

01:15:59   i am going to have a plausible hope as [TS]

01:16:02   opposed to this year which was a [TS]

01:16:03   slightly less plausible hope that they [TS]

01:16:06   announced a new file system and I guess [TS]

01:16:08   they would announce it in the context of [TS]

01:16:09   the mac or maybe they would announce it [TS]

01:16:11   all don't even know i just wanted to [TS]

01:16:12   exist so again this is not a prediction [TS]

01:16:15   this is the wish and i believe it is [TS]

01:16:17   planned if it's not plausible shame on [TS]

01:16:18   Apple because if you say well it's too [TS]

01:16:20   soon we just started work on this [TS]

01:16:21   project six months ago you did did you [TS]

01:16:23   really start six months ago anyway the [TS]

01:16:26   filesystem and good luck [TS]

01:16:28   alright Marco for you so i have this [TS]

01:16:32   whole section here on the Apple watch [TS]

01:16:36   what i want the apple watch to find it [TS]

01:16:38   away by all accounts the apple watch is [TS]

01:16:41   doing decently but by many people's [TS]

01:16:44   estimations looking at server logs and [TS]

01:16:46   everything it does seem like many of [TS]

01:16:48   them are given as Christmas gifts this [TS]

01:16:50   this past week and you know before that [TS]

01:16:52   it seems like the Apple watch was doing [TS]

01:16:53   decently sales-wise you know not a [TS]

01:16:56   massive like something on fire kind of [TS]

01:16:58   thing not the next iphone by any means [TS]

01:17:01   but doing decently so sales-wise it [TS]

01:17:04   seems like it's gonna be here to stay [TS]

01:17:06   it's it's a it's a line that is working [TS]

01:17:09   for apple I worry that it will have the [TS]

01:17:12   same growth curve as the ipad it will [TS]

01:17:15   shoot up now as it's the new cool thing [TS]

01:17:17   and then a lot of people will just drop [TS]

01:17:20   off or the upgrade cycle will become [TS]

01:17:22   very long way [TS]

01:17:23   overlapping wanted to be I think the [TS]

01:17:25   apple watch is a product that it is like [TS]

01:17:29   75 percent good it just needs a lot of [TS]

01:17:33   refinement because everything it does [TS]

01:17:36   like it does things that are incredibly [TS]

01:17:38   compelling and it just does them all [TS]

01:17:40   like almost really well so for the last [TS]

01:17:43   few days I have been wearing a [TS]

01:17:45   mechanical watch i have not warm apple [TS]

01:17:47   watch since I don't know week ago or so [TS]

01:17:49   so I very mechanical watches i got a [TS]

01:17:52   Christmas gift and and I'm and I'm [TS]

01:17:53   learning what this world is like one of [TS]

01:17:56   the cool things about a mechanical watch [TS]

01:17:57   besides the fact that I think honestly [TS]

01:17:59   I'm finally understanding when the when [TS]

01:18:03   the the watch people said with the Apple [TS]

01:18:05   watch launch that that is just not a [TS]

01:18:08   fashion item like it when you compare [TS]

01:18:10   the way like traditional style watches [TS]

01:18:14   look versus the way the apple watch [TS]

01:18:16   looks I think you can say in isolation [TS]

01:18:19   that the Apple watch can look good you [TS]

01:18:21   know and many of its configuration think [TS]

01:18:23   it does look good but when you compare [TS]

01:18:26   it fashionability wise to mechanical [TS]

01:18:29   watch I think it's honestly no contest [TS]

01:18:32   but it's not even the same league but [TS]

01:18:34   that's ok you know that doesn't need to [TS]

01:18:36   be it just needs to be good anyway there [TS]

01:18:38   are so many areas of it and which like [TS]

01:18:40   like the notifications i do miss now I'm [TS]

01:18:42   wearing this watch i do miss like when [TS]

01:18:45   when case you sent me a message earlier [TS]

01:18:47   my pocket vibrated and I i glanced at my [TS]

01:18:49   wrist can only stop if it wasn't and i [TS]

01:18:53   do miss like having my phone out does [TS]

01:18:55   feeling convenient now that when i get a [TS]

01:18:57   message to go try to read it and see and [TS]

01:18:59   see what it is but that feature of the [TS]

01:19:01   Apple watch is also very frustrating [TS]

01:19:03   because for me it works most of the time [TS]

01:19:06   but not all the time every so often at [TS]

01:19:09   seemingly random intervals i will just [TS]

01:19:11   stop receiving notifications on my Apple [TS]

01:19:14   watch but my phone thinks its into the [TS]

01:19:16   watch so then just they got dropped on [TS]

01:19:19   the floor and I just don't receive [TS]

01:19:20   messages until next time i checked my [TS]

01:19:21   phone which I'm not in the habit of [TS]

01:19:23   doing anymore because the Apple watch [TS]

01:19:25   I can look at all the Apple watches core [TS]

01:19:27   benefits and they all work like 75% well [TS]

01:19:31   like that and it's frustrating and yes [TS]

01:19:33   it is it is still its first year and so [TS]

01:19:36   yes many [TS]

01:19:37   things are like one point about you know [TS]

01:19:38   technically it's on software version 2.1 [TS]

01:19:40   but that doesn't seem to mean what you [TS]

01:19:42   would expect from A to point out i just [TS]

01:19:45   think that this product has so much [TS]

01:19:48   promise but it just needs to be better [TS]

01:19:51   and it needs to be better in ways that [TS]

01:19:54   typically don't happen quickly you like [TS]

01:19:56   like if a product is launched and it's [TS]

01:19:58   like almost really great that's that [TS]

01:20:02   almost is really hard to resolve and to [TS]

01:20:04   remove into just being really great and [TS]

01:20:07   I I hope Apple can do that with the [TS]

01:20:09   watch because it really is a very [TS]

01:20:12   compelling product in a number of ways [TS]

01:20:14   most of the time and it's just so [TS]

01:20:17   frustrating that isn't all the time I am [TS]

01:20:20   so I am so happy having this thing on my [TS]

01:20:23   wrist now these past few days that just [TS]

01:20:25   it doesn't do nearly as much as the [TS]

01:20:27   apple watch by a long shot but it does [TS]

01:20:30   it every single time every time I look [TS]

01:20:33   at my wrist the time is displayed every [TS]

01:20:36   single time and that's what you want to [TS]

01:20:38   something like that you want it to be [TS]

01:20:40   that reliable the apple watch isn't and [TS]

01:20:43   I hope it can be and I hope it is [TS]

01:20:44   because some good hope for the upgrade [TS]

01:20:47   cycle because if any device had [TS]

01:20:50   fashioned going forward it's got that [TS]

01:20:51   both got a tech thing where this is the [TS]

01:20:53   big fat version and surely they're going [TS]

01:20:55   to get dinner right so that will help [TS]

01:20:56   because it'll make it feel less like a [TS]

01:20:58   giant screen trailer in your wrist and [TS]

01:21:00   it's got the fashion thing even if they [TS]

01:21:03   had made it like as thin as they wanted [TS]

01:21:05   to make it and they were actually making [TS]

01:21:06   it bigger again for fashion reasons the [TS]

01:21:08   way you get someone to buy a new watch [TS]

01:21:10   next year is can you know commit them [TS]

01:21:13   this really is a fashion accessory and [TS]

01:21:15   then make it look different because [TS]

01:21:16   people or into fashion and fashion [TS]

01:21:18   things when things look different they [TS]

01:21:19   don't want to wear the same thing year [TS]

01:21:20   after year so at the very least it will [TS]

01:21:23   have a motivator to shorten the upgrade [TS]

01:21:27   cycle that the ipad doesn't have because [TS]

01:21:29   no one is upgrading their iPad because [TS]

01:21:30   their old one is not fashionable yeah I [TS]

01:21:32   think that's true i recently of animals [TS]

01:21:35   week or two ago wrote a Apple watch [TS]

01:21:37   revisited post on my site and i agree [TS]

01:21:41   with you Marco that I have very mixed [TS]

01:21:43   feelings about the Apple watch and in [TS]

01:21:44   fact on [TS]

01:21:45   the upgrade ease on relay this is with [TS]

01:21:50   Jason Snelling my curly they do their [TS]

01:21:52   year-end kind of recap and in you know [TS]

01:21:54   funny award show and they had solicited [TS]

01:21:57   feedback from any of the relay hosts [TS]

01:22:00   that felt like they wanted to [TS]

01:22:01   participate and I forget exactly what [TS]

01:22:03   the categories were but I had listed the [TS]

01:22:06   apple watch both for the most [TS]

01:22:08   disappointing device as well as the one [TS]

01:22:12   that has changed my life and host [TS]

01:22:13   because I really do feel both of those [TS]

01:22:15   things are true that I had such high [TS]

01:22:19   expectations for the watch i don't think [TS]

01:22:20   they've really it's really mad but at [TS]

01:22:25   the same at the same time that you have [TS]

01:22:27   to quote myself from my sight you know [TS]

01:22:31   it's it's become it's made my myphone [TS]

01:22:35   transition from being a personal device [TS]

01:22:40   to a private device and that's a really [TS]

01:22:43   big change [TS]

01:22:45   it's now my phone is only for me and [TS]

01:22:49   it's not taking it out constantly unless [TS]

01:22:51   I choose to it stays in my pocket all [TS]

01:22:54   the time unless I'm choosing to get it [TS]

01:22:57   out and that's very different than it [TS]

01:22:59   used to be when it was buzzing [TS]

01:23:00   constantly and I would take my phone out [TS]

01:23:02   in order to see what was going on and [TS]

01:23:04   triage and whatnot and I agree with you [TS]

01:23:07   Marco that having notifications on your [TS]

01:23:09   wrist as long as they work which [TS]

01:23:10   ninety-nine percent of the time it does [TS]

01:23:12   for me although occasionally my watch [TS]

01:23:14   just kind of forgets that it's connected [TS]

01:23:15   to the phone as long as they work it's [TS]

01:23:17   phenomenal and it's really changed the [TS]

01:23:19   way I interact with my phone and so I [TS]

01:23:22   agree with you I'd like to see here [TS]

01:23:23   Apple watch colon get better height it [TS]

01:23:26   is an extremely impressive device and i [TS]

01:23:28   think i would really miss it if I [TS]

01:23:30   stopped wearing it [TS]

01:23:31   yeah i'm also eating on on the on the UI [TS]

01:23:34   side of the Apple watch [TS]

01:23:36   I think that's another product where the [TS]

01:23:38   UI needs a lot of help in certain areas [TS]

01:23:40   like just the way I mean honestly I i [TS]

01:23:42   don't think the idea i think this falls [TS]

01:23:44   off the end of possibility but i would [TS]

01:23:46   love to see a completely rethinking of [TS]

01:23:49   the entire app launching paradigm on the [TS]

01:23:51   watch you know make it more of a like a [TS]

01:23:54   clock face plus glances only kind of [TS]

01:23:57   thing and get rid of [TS]

01:23:59   the entire honeycomb screen and the idea [TS]

01:24:01   of launching apps that way to get rid of [TS]

01:24:03   an entire paradigm like I i want to see [TS]

01:24:06   major rethinking of watching why I also [TS]

01:24:10   just like it is a smart watch it is a [TS]

01:24:13   computer be smarter like the the clock [TS]

01:24:16   faces himself the watch faces themselves [TS]

01:24:19   are I'm anyways still somewhat dumb and [TS]

01:24:23   and I you know I've met i mentioned [TS]

01:24:24   before I wanna go too far into it just [TS]

01:24:26   like get just get smarter with what can [TS]

01:24:28   be shown in the face [TS]

01:24:30   what you have to choose between the [TS]

01:24:33   relevance of certain information certain [TS]

01:24:36   kind of like you know some kind of hero [TS]

01:24:39   stick of like you know do I have to have [TS]

01:24:41   the timer always showing on the face in [TS]

01:24:44   order to have it show when it's counting [TS]

01:24:46   down when I have one running like stuff [TS]

01:24:48   like that just like make the watch face [TS]

01:24:51   is smarter [TS]

01:24:52   why does the minute hand of the utility [TS]

01:24:56   face ever cover up the date so you can't [TS]

01:24:59   see what date it is like simple things [TS]

01:25:01   like that your resume that's why Riley [TS]

01:25:04   it's a computer you can do smarter [TS]

01:25:07   things when you compare it to mechanical [TS]

01:25:09   watches now that I've seen this one a [TS]

01:25:11   little bit when you when you compare it [TS]

01:25:13   to mechanical watches the apple watch [TS]

01:25:14   face isn't that much smarter it has many [TS]

01:25:17   of the same downsides and mechanical [TS]

01:25:19   watches do it's a computer it has the [TS]

01:25:21   ability to show anything to be smarter [TS]

01:25:23   to to be considerate and to be really [TS]

01:25:27   you know intelligent and and flexible [TS]

01:25:29   you know in a way that the current Apple [TS]

01:25:31   watch face environment doesn't take [TS]

01:25:34   advantage of it and doesn't really [TS]

01:25:35   expose or allow and I i really hope to [TS]

01:25:38   see more of that and and you know but [TS]

01:25:40   again this i think this push the bounds [TS]

01:25:42   of possibility because a lot of that [TS]

01:25:44   would require cutting and redoing and [TS]

01:25:48   redesigning and rethinking much of the [TS]

01:25:50   Apple watches existing existing you I [TS]

01:25:52   honestly don't see Apple doing that [TS]

01:25:54   instead we have these rumors that the [TS]

01:25:56   version too hard it'll just be like [TS]

01:25:57   FaceTime camera added and that sounds [TS]

01:26:00   insane to me like I hope that that might [TS]

01:26:03   but i have listed on here is like 2nd [TS]

01:26:05   gen hardware please let it be [TS]

01:26:07   substantially faster because the the [TS]

01:26:09   speed of the watch really impedes [TS]

01:26:12   kinds of usefulness that you can do with [TS]

01:26:14   it saps it would be nice if it was a [TS]

01:26:15   little bit thinner they probably won't [TS]

01:26:16   happen and i have here [TS]

01:26:18   facetime camera ? i hope i missing [TS]

01:26:20   something because i really like I I hope [TS]

01:26:25   there's a good use for that camera that [TS]

01:26:27   I'm not thinking of because I can think [TS]

01:26:29   of one really bad use which should be [TS]

01:26:31   facetime oh I really hope that's not it [TS]

01:26:36   so much for Apple to sell nose hair [TS]

01:26:37   trimmers in its stores soon as people [TS]

01:26:41   start using that facetime camera is [TS]

01:26:43   gonna be a running nose hair trimmers [TS]

01:26:44   you know it they could sell them right [TS]

01:26:47   next to the hedge trimmers they need to [TS]

01:26:49   treat to trim it became a total employee [TS]

01:26:52   at what we got a badge for you god bless [TS]

01:26:54   america [TS]

01:26:55   don't worry Casey you almost get credit [TS]

01:26:57   for that joke yeah that was going to [TS]

01:26:59   come on [TS]

01:26:59   goodness alright so does that make it [TS]

01:27:04   it's my turn again to keep with the [TS]

01:27:07   super nerdy topics [TS]

01:27:09   there's a swift package manager for OS [TS]

01:27:13   10 i'd like to see that on iOS four [TS]

01:27:15   shirts coming and I'd like to see that [TS]

01:27:18   get adopted so the previously mentioned [TS]

01:27:20   Carthage vs cocoapods war just goes away [TS]

01:27:25   all right be careful what you wish for [TS]

01:27:26   their because they're like for all the [TS]

01:27:30   faults you may find that the existing [TS]

01:27:31   package managers there's still more [TS]

01:27:33   mature than this brand spanking new [TS]

01:27:34   swift one so it would I i think what [TS]

01:27:37   you're asking for is like unification [TS]

01:27:39   even if it unifying around something [TS]

01:27:40   that is less mature at this point and [TS]

01:27:42   yeah that would be good i don't know if [TS]

01:27:44   that's plausible for next year because [TS]

01:27:48   yeah that's that's that's like a [TS]

01:27:49   forward-looking thing where like I would [TS]

01:27:50   like to see this mess sorted out so that [TS]

01:27:52   I don't have to deal with these [TS]

01:27:54   differences and there's just one way [TS]

01:27:56   that everyone agrees on of of doing this [TS]

01:27:58   thing like you know German ruby or [TS]

01:28:00   c-band pearl or whatever and having one [TS]

01:28:04   thing is better than that one thing [TS]

01:28:06   being particularly debug door worked out [TS]

01:28:08   or whatever but the grand for a couple [TS]

01:28:10   years and more pain and that [TS]

01:28:12   oh I think you're right but I think if [TS]

01:28:14   Apple made something really robust and [TS]

01:28:16   really solid i think it could kind of [TS]

01:28:19   solve the problem once and for all four [TS]

01:28:21   yet far for mac and iOS i have probably [TS]

01:28:23   but like them what are the [TS]

01:28:25   hope your previous thing about the [TS]

01:28:27   service I people maybe they come up with [TS]

01:28:28   their own says matter [TS]

01:28:29   yeah but that's all I had for well for [TS]

01:28:32   this one anyway so John alright next [TS]

01:28:36   item is another see how simple and [TS]

01:28:39   concise mine are new mac pro new file [TS]

01:28:41   system 5k display and another concise [TS]

01:28:43   one Apple pencil for ipad non-pro that's [TS]

01:28:47   it for the regular what we used to call [TS]

01:28:49   full-sized iPads not one of those with [TS]

01:28:52   pencil support it is totally plausible [TS]

01:28:53   and it would be awesome and I would [TS]

01:28:55   probably buy one [TS]

01:28:56   yeah and that honestly that's pretty [TS]

01:28:59   plausible I i would i'm pretty sure I i [TS]

01:29:02   wouldn't expect to see it in the mini [TS]

01:29:03   but i would expect to see at least in [TS]

01:29:06   the airline this that you know the next [TS]

01:29:08   heir probably this fall or whatever I [TS]

01:29:10   hope they do that i mean that's that's [TS]

01:29:11   probably the main reason i'm not buying [TS]

01:29:14   him and new ipad magazine ipad3 like [TS]

01:29:16   it's really it's really checking these [TS]

01:29:18   days it's slowing down with iOS 9 is [TS]

01:29:20   making it slow down or just like I'm [TS]

01:29:21   getting used to my iphone 6 too much i [TS]

01:29:23   just can't i'm doing much more on my [TS]

01:29:25   phone using it as a really really small [TS]

01:29:27   iPad because I just can't stand going [TS]

01:29:29   over tonight slope is I would've bought [TS]

01:29:31   an ipad this year except i couldn't get [TS]

01:29:33   out of my head that I don't want to buy [TS]

01:29:34   one this year and the next year they [TS]

01:29:35   have only the pencil because that would [TS]

01:29:37   be cool so yeah I would like to see you [TS]

01:29:39   next year [TS]

01:29:40   alright Marco I would like to see [TS]

01:29:43   general maturing of the ipad pro you [TS]

01:29:47   know the word on this topic the ipad pro [TS]

01:29:50   obviously it's very new it's like you [TS]

01:29:51   know a month old something out so it's [TS]

01:29:54   very new the the hardware seems really [TS]

01:29:58   great the software seems like it needs [TS]

01:30:01   still a lot of time to bake and that's [TS]

01:30:03   both first party and third-party [TS]

01:30:04   software my worry is that this fall [TS]

01:30:08   before you have had pros even out we saw [TS]

01:30:11   as you mentioned earlier case we saw the [TS]

01:30:12   launch of of multitasking on the ipad [TS]

01:30:14   and there are still so many incredibly [TS]

01:30:17   useful ipad apps that have not been [TS]

01:30:20   updated for multitasking and this is not [TS]

01:30:23   just you know some fluke [TS]

01:30:25   this is because it is not really worth [TS]

01:30:27   developers put a lot of effort into most [TS]

01:30:29   ipad apps and that is a press a big [TS]

01:30:31   problem for the ipad so I i really hope [TS]

01:30:34   that in 2016 we see enough worthwhile [TS]

01:30:39   games on the ipad market wise to be [TS]

01:30:42   worth developers updating the software [TS]

01:30:43   because as any ipad pro owner can tell [TS]

01:30:46   you it is really great when you're using [TS]

01:30:48   apps that resize properly the ipad pro [TS]

01:30:50   and support multitasking properly and [TS]

01:30:52   it's really rough when you're not and [TS]

01:30:55   you know that's it's bad enough on the [TS]

01:30:57   on the no 1024 x 768 ipad the the air in [TS]

01:31:00   the mini it's bad enough on those when [TS]

01:31:03   you have someone doesn't support [TS]

01:31:03   multitasking but it's way worse on your [TS]

01:31:06   iPad pro when you have something that [TS]

01:31:08   brings up that tremendous old keyboard [TS]

01:31:10   for cooking because the app is being [TS]

01:31:12   scaled up [TS]

01:31:14   it's really rough that will hold the [TS]

01:31:16   ipad pro back until it is resolved right [TS]

01:31:19   now it doesn't appear as though that's [TS]

01:31:21   going to be resolved easily you know [TS]

01:31:24   because developers of many ipad apps are [TS]

01:31:27   really not rushing to update them for [TS]

01:31:29   these new capabilities because it has [TS]

01:31:32   been it historically it has been so hard [TS]

01:31:34   to justify putting more effort into ipad [TS]

01:31:37   programming because this is the market [TS]

01:31:39   has not rewarded it in a commensurate [TS]

01:31:41   way for foremost app types i really hope [TS]

01:31:44   to see that change and then to see a lot [TS]

01:31:47   more ipad software get updated for [TS]

01:31:49   modern devices because if that doesn't [TS]

01:31:50   happen a year from now we're going to [TS]

01:31:53   hear a lot of really disappointed ipad [TS]

01:31:55   owners talking about it i don't have an [TS]

01:31:57   ipad pro side nothing to contribute to [TS]

01:31:59   this but it makes sense but you just [TS]

01:32:01   said you know you do have an ipad now [TS]

01:32:03   with most and support and it does suck [TS]

01:32:05   when you when you want to multi-task [TS]

01:32:06   with NASA doesn't support it so that [TS]

01:32:08   this is all tied it [TS]

01:32:09   yeah yeah that yeah you're absolutely [TS]

01:32:11   right about that can we just lump in the [TS]

01:32:13   lack of Instagram ipad app and they're [TS]

01:32:15   just for the healthy think things that [TS]

01:32:17   will annoy every ipad or yet it is [TS]

01:32:19   always amazed me the iOS applications [TS]

01:32:22   that don't think it's important to pick [TS]

01:32:25   your thing to be updated for the I [TS]

01:32:27   iphone 6 size to do anything sensible on [TS]

01:32:30   the ipad to have an ipad app at all it's [TS]

01:32:34   tough when you're not number one even [TS]

01:32:35   just you know the number to iOS device [TS]

01:32:38   platforms just that's a big drop off [TS]

01:32:40   after the iphone yeah and then while i'm [TS]

01:32:43   on a little the quick iOS topic your iOS [TS]

01:32:45   device topic here the iphone 7 have a [TS]

01:32:49   quick little bullet list bullet point [TS]

01:32:50   here of [TS]

01:32:51   you know iphone 7 that this year it's [TS]

01:32:53   gonna be you know but if they follow the [TS]

01:32:55   pattern which they will almost certainly [TS]

01:32:56   follow it's gonna be a redesign year for [TS]

01:32:59   the for the external casing of the [TS]

01:33:00   iphone is here i'm not going to wish [TS]

01:33:02   more battery life because that's not [TS]

01:33:04   possible it is possible you could you [TS]

01:33:06   could totally what yes it is a hundred [TS]

01:33:08   implausible you could say you could say [TS]

01:33:10   you want more battery life in terms of [TS]

01:33:11   the number of minutes like wall clock [TS]

01:33:14   time are you could just say i want more [TS]

01:33:15   milliamp hours you know what i would [TS]

01:33:18   actually get this is I would like more [TS]

01:33:20   million powers and i know i know they [TS]

01:33:21   won't do that because that would make it [TS]

01:33:22   heavier and thicker they won't get Walt [TS]

01:33:24   the way Apple gets battery life these [TS]

01:33:26   days is a combination of power saving [TS]

01:33:28   parts as technology advances and [TS]

01:33:31   software improvements to kind of reduce [TS]

01:33:34   the idol draw and to end to get that get [TS]

01:33:36   to get more into idle time the the [TS]

01:33:39   problem i have with with the modern [TS]

01:33:40   battery life is we're talking about to [TS]

01:33:42   death so I'm going to go very quickly [TS]

01:33:43   now is that we have not seen significant [TS]

01:33:47   advancement in the the battery life of [TS]

01:33:49   things that are under load things that [TS]

01:33:51   are like processors that are being used [TS]

01:33:53   if you're playing no game or using GPS [TS]

01:33:57   we're streaming music over the cell [TS]

01:33:58   network through bluetooth or something [TS]

01:34:00   where things are not going into [TS]

01:34:01   low-power states or if your laptop your [TS]

01:34:04   processing photos you're compiling [TS]

01:34:06   you're doing you're doing hard work [TS]

01:34:07   you're making the computer work hard [TS]

01:34:10   we're not seeing big changes in the [TS]

01:34:12   battery life under load we're seeing [TS]

01:34:15   almost all the games have last four [TS]

01:34:16   years have been by stretching out idle [TS]

01:34:18   time but by making it by making idle [TS]

01:34:21   time more efficient but am I making the [TS]

01:34:23   CPUs and travel time more often so I [TS]

01:34:25   want to see that that top and be raised [TS]

01:34:27   also and i just think that's not going [TS]

01:34:29   to happen I i think it's very obvious [TS]

01:34:31   that Apple is is content to mostly not [TS]

01:34:34   address that and to instead address the [TS]

01:34:36   bottom end because the bottom and can be [TS]

01:34:38   addressed without bigger thicker [TS]

01:34:40   batteries so I I don't think it's going [TS]

01:34:43   to happen but I would like my plausible [TS]

01:34:46   thing my plausible wishlist item on the [TS]

01:34:47   iphone 7 is 22 somehow address the [TS]

01:34:51   handhold ability and make it make it [TS]

01:34:55   more hand-holding bowl without a case [TS]

01:34:57   because the iphone 6 the first my views [TS]

01:34:59   of the case I before that every previous [TS]

01:35:01   iphone I've used that case because I [TS]

01:35:04   just like it [TS]

01:35:05   I don't like having you as a case I like [TS]

01:35:06   having an iphone that just feels good [TS]

01:35:08   enough and secure enough in my hand that [TS]

01:35:09   I don't feel the need for a case the six [TS]

01:35:12   did not do that all the way too slippery [TS]

01:35:15   and both shape and finish the 6s [TS]

01:35:17   improved a little bit in that it is [TS]

01:35:19   still slippery and shape but the finish [TS]

01:35:20   was less slippery the surface itself i [TS]

01:35:23   would like to see the seven design [TS]

01:35:24   hopefully address the the ability to [TS]

01:35:27   handhold it in a way to feel secure and [TS]

01:35:29   that is secure it because the all the [TS]

01:35:32   previous ones i thought were way more [TS]

01:35:34   handle the six design i think was is [TS]

01:35:38   pretty rough in that way i'm hoping the [TS]

01:35:40   seventh we better just the handhold [TS]

01:35:42   ability to rest of the rest i know is [TS]

01:35:44   mostly not plausible but that that I [TS]

01:35:47   want I think you don't you're not [TS]

01:35:48   following my definition of plausible [TS]

01:35:50   eyes and able to be done in the physical [TS]

01:35:52   world without any magic without saying i [TS]

01:35:54   wanted to be 5 gigahertz CPU but anyway [TS]

01:35:55   for your capability you just need to [TS]

01:35:58   fully 12 they just need to put moss on [TS]

01:36:00   the outside of it but the testing that [TS]

01:36:02   right now that the iphone foliage wall [TS]

01:36:05   little just a little you know it's like [TS]

01:36:07   a chia pet [TS]

01:36:07   you just you order it going to use fuel [TS]

01:36:10   cell technology to give out Marco is [TS]

01:36:12   increased battery life that he does [TS]

01:36:13   afraid to ask for and then it'll be like [TS]

01:36:16   a chia pet because you followed up with [TS]

01:36:17   liquid and that will run the fuel cell [TS]

01:36:18   and the water vapor that comes out will [TS]

01:36:20   will help the little hydroponic Moscow [TS]

01:36:24   and will be really grippy that would be [TS]

01:36:26   awesome and will be green [TS]

01:36:27   yeah literally alright my next one hand [TS]

01:36:32   on heart is written in my field notes [TS]

01:36:34   earlier today is increased battery life [TS]

01:36:38   is hard for her to do I say he has the [TS]

01:36:41   the he has the guts to say it [TS]

01:36:43   he it's alright it's possible you just [TS]

01:36:44   put more battery that you just made me [TS]

01:36:45   think it's straightforward totally [TS]

01:36:48   doable could be done [TS]

01:36:50   you could say Andy and it would make you [TS]

01:36:52   happy if it was done and so there you go [TS]

01:36:54   yeah and I mean maybe the answers just [TS]

01:36:56   don't make the next iphone thinner [TS]

01:36:59   because to my memory every single iphone [TS]

01:37:02   redesign has been just that little bit [TS]

01:37:04   thinner than last [TS]

01:37:05   maybe you know what Apple you go really [TS]

01:37:07   crazy and you just don't make it thinner [TS]

01:37:10   this year and just a battery for making [TS]

01:37:13   dinner but then have a lump on the back [TS]

01:37:15   where the extra battery [TS]

01:37:16   haha [TS]

01:37:18   because then they could say look out [TS]

01:37:20   much thinner it is we made it doesn't [TS]

01:37:22   make it really thin and they just put it [TS]

01:37:23   on the lump like I don't count the lump [TS]

01:37:25   or not counting that in thickness [TS]

01:37:26   no I mean like what this comes down to [TS]

01:37:28   is that the thinnest is not the main [TS]

01:37:32   problem here the main problem here is [TS]

01:37:33   wait [TS]

01:37:34   the thinnest is is the consequence of [TS]

01:37:36   that like you're like they're not [TS]

01:37:38   minimizing battery size to make it [TS]

01:37:41   thinner they they want to make it [TS]

01:37:43   thinner over all and they're they're [TS]

01:37:45   trying to hit a weight goal and then the [TS]

01:37:48   the size of the battery batteries like [TS]

01:37:50   the heaviest thing in there so the size [TS]

01:37:51   of the battery is is what lets them you [TS]

01:37:54   know if they can keep the battery small [TS]

01:37:56   that keeps the weight down and then they [TS]

01:37:59   can make the enclosure really small and [TS]

01:38:01   thin around it so it's this is really [TS]

01:38:04   about wait one more than thickness by [TS]

01:38:06   itself you know I think this is a [TS]

01:38:09   secondary consequences of reducing [TS]

01:38:11   weight so what we're really asking for [TS]

01:38:13   if we want bigger batteries were asking [TS]

01:38:16   for us make the phones heavier and i'm [TS]

01:38:18   at that's why I'm not sure they would do [TS]

01:38:19   it then the iphone sexy and heavier than [TS]

01:38:22   5s I believe it did I thought that was [TS]

01:38:25   the 6s two verses 6 because of the 3d [TS]

01:38:29   touch stuff yeah I just mean like one [TS]

01:38:31   that when the phone got bigger than [TS]

01:38:32   enough the foreign screen you know well [TS]

01:38:34   but that's explainable even to a regular [TS]

01:38:37   consumer because I look it's bigger than [TS]

01:38:39   us there's more stuff I know but just [TS]

01:38:40   like is it's not it's not on it's not [TS]

01:38:43   unprecedented to to go heavier anyway [TS]

01:38:45   the amount the amount of extra weight [TS]

01:38:46   added by the batteries is nobody yet is [TS]

01:38:49   reversing a trend like they're making a [TS]

01:38:50   thinner because they want to be lighter [TS]

01:38:51   than to be lighter than you know that's [TS]

01:38:53   the direction are going but I still [TS]

01:38:55   think for a list of possible things that [TS]

01:38:57   could go enlist that was my last one so [TS]

01:39:00   I'm tapped out from here and I got two [TS]

01:39:03   related ones one since we're talking [TS]

01:39:05   about iphone things I don't even know if [TS]

01:39:08   it's something that I really care about [TS]

01:39:09   that much i guess it gets more into [TS]

01:39:11   production I guess I kinda do care about [TS]

01:39:12   it i'm always screens and phones as [TS]

01:39:14   rumours about that and 44 power [TS]

01:39:18   efficiency reasons and maybe because it [TS]

01:39:20   will encourage more user interfaces that [TS]

01:39:22   are all white and maybe because they can [TS]

01:39:25   make it thinner and lighter i don't know [TS]

01:39:27   all the the advance [TS]

01:39:28   just a little bit but I feel like LCD on [TS]

01:39:31   phones as as a power draw a source and [TS]

01:39:34   just that you know that technology [TS]

01:39:36   especially as they incorporate more [TS]

01:39:38   things in there like maybe they will if [TS]

01:39:39   they ever let you use the pencil with [TS]

01:39:41   the phone or something i really like to [TS]

01:39:43   see Apple take the next sleep with their [TS]

01:39:45   iOS devices and start transitioning to [TS]

01:39:47   oled everywhere because that seems to be [TS]

01:39:49   the way things are going in my related [TS]

01:39:53   item actually getting awful apple stuff [TS]

01:39:55   for a change is I want to see more non [TS]

01:39:58   curved OLED televisions they [TS]

01:40:00   concentrated picture quality [TS]

01:40:02   this year has been the year that old TVs [TS]

01:40:04   become a thing that you can buy for a [TS]

01:40:07   reasonable price they're the new picture [TS]

01:40:09   quality King a whole bunch of them are [TS]

01:40:11   curved but it's really early to be [TS]

01:40:14   buying like this is not the year to buy [TS]

01:40:17   an oled TV unless you just want to buy [TS]

01:40:18   it like i said people ask for advice [TS]

01:40:20   buy it with the idea that you're gonna [TS]

01:40:21   sell it because it's like the people who [TS]

01:40:23   bought the plasma is like the first or [TS]

01:40:24   second year they were out that's fine [TS]

01:40:26   you get to enjoy a fancy new TV but [TS]

01:40:29   assume you're going to sell it in the [TS]

01:40:30   year or two because the year or two or [TS]

01:40:31   three the ones that come out are going [TS]

01:40:33   to be so much better than yours for so [TS]

01:40:34   much less money that you just you can [TS]

01:40:36   have to you know be resigned to sell and [TS]

01:40:40   trade up to a nicer model but I feel [TS]

01:40:43   next year is the year when Woods [TS]

01:40:45   hopefully they get rid of this stupid [TS]

01:40:47   curve thing because I don't know who is [TS]

01:40:49   buying these things with herv's who [TS]

01:40:50   wants some occurs I don't there's no [TS]

01:40:52   advantage to its dumb it needs to just [TS]

01:40:55   go away [TS]

01:40:56   yeah flat oled tvs that concentrate [TS]

01:40:59   concentrate on picture quality because a [TS]

01:41:01   lot a lot of the old legs now letís in [TS]

01:41:05   general usually don't concentrate a [TS]

01:41:06   picture quality control and smart TV [TS]

01:41:07   type features or you know some other gee [TS]

01:41:11   whiz thing or they just want to say this [TS]

01:41:12   is the cheapest 4k TV you can get this [TS]

01:41:14   particular size I want the ones that [TS]

01:41:16   actually concentrate on picture quality [TS]

01:41:19   not that I would particularly by one but [TS]

01:41:20   I I just you know I hate looking year [TS]

01:41:24   after year at TVs that are available and [TS]

01:41:26   realizing i don't want any of these tvs [TS]

01:41:28   and just praying that my poor partially [TS]

01:41:31   burned in plasma just keeps working [TS]

01:41:32   until I can until someone makes TV that [TS]

01:41:35   i can replace it with ultimately you can [TS]

01:41:37   just wish that that burned spot [TS]

01:41:39   eventually wears out during one st [TS]

01:41:41   well I mean I'm still pretty well like [TS]

01:41:43   the cartoon network logo the other day [TS]

01:41:44   and it's it has paid substantially the [TS]

01:41:46   Destiny Hut is still kind of family [TS]

01:41:48   visible but yeah that the television [TS]

01:41:51   logos this channel logos are honestly [TS]

01:41:52   worse than destiny now there's not much [TS]

01:41:54   you can do about that the channel logo [TS]

01:41:55   screen except for tell these television [TS]

01:41:58   stations because guess what [TS]

01:41:59   oh it burns into so please television [TS]

01:42:02   stations make your logos transparent or [TS]

01:42:03   maybe don't show them on the screen the [TS]

01:42:05   entire show I get it I understand what [TS]

01:42:07   network i'm watching put it on like 43 [TS]

01:42:09   seconds and then you come out of [TS]

01:42:10   commercial break or or not at all [TS]

01:42:12   that should be a feature like your back [TS]

01:42:14   to luxury TV network we never put us [TS]

01:42:16   through the local on your screen that [TS]

01:42:18   the real luxury past extra money and we [TS]

01:42:20   never shown add that is a luxury that's [TS]

01:42:22   what people like HBO [TS]

01:42:23   hey what let's watch HBO show it just [TS]

01:42:25   plays there's no commercials in it and [TS]

01:42:27   there's no breaks or commercial just [TS]

01:42:28   play straight through that is that is a [TS]

01:42:31   desirable experience who doesn't like [TS]

01:42:34   that of course you also would like to [TS]

01:42:35   get your television for free to [TS]

01:42:36   understand advertisers have to work but [TS]

01:42:38   for four stations that you know the idea [TS]

01:42:41   of its quality of life issue four [TS]

01:42:43   stations that are that have ads on the [TS]

01:42:45   different plan on regular TV they could [TS]

01:42:47   advertise the fact that we never cover [TS]

01:42:49   the screen with like a promo for an [TS]

01:42:50   upcoming show [TS]

01:42:52   I guess they have to put the rating [TS]

01:42:53   thing in there you know the TV lsv and [TS]

01:42:56   you know whatever i guess i watch shows [TS]

01:42:58   with too many letters in them [TS]

01:42:59   yeah they're all HBO shows but everybody [TS]

01:43:02   you know they have to put a little of [TS]

01:43:04   the little logo up on the screen and let [TS]

01:43:06   you guys know this because I don't know [TS]

01:43:08   I turns anyway they put that in the four [TS]

01:43:10   by three you know that the frame the [TS]

01:43:13   four by three frames like they don't put [TS]

01:43:14   in the corner of the sixteen by nine [TS]

01:43:15   screen they put it so will be visible if [TS]

01:43:19   you're watching 16 by 9 content with [TS]

01:43:21   this sides cut off so it's 4 by 3 [TS]

01:43:24   I don't think I was going to my own [TS]

01:43:25   pictures on my phone and then had a good [TS]

01:43:27   picture of what i was watching a sense [TS]

01:43:28   of Anarchy back when it was on back when [TS]

01:43:30   I was actually kind of not terrible [TS]

01:43:32   where the logo that the TV MA LSB [TS]

01:43:37   whatever logo was dead center over an [TS]

01:43:40   actor's face like it is their head was [TS]

01:43:43   enjoying their head was a gigantic [TS]

01:43:44   square like seriously like you can't [TS]

01:43:47   even and like you move that out of the [TS]

01:43:48   way it's like when you re watch it later [TS]

01:43:50   that will be gone [TS]

01:43:51   that's it that's your missing you know [TS]

01:43:53   part of the [TS]

01:43:53   so because of that in the same thing [TS]

01:43:55   when they the promos for the upcoming [TS]

01:43:56   shows go up anyway [TS]

01:43:58   yeah I guess that's another bullet item [TS]

01:44:00   television stations it is within your [TS]

01:44:02   power both technically and policy wise [TS]

01:44:04   to stop doing that stop please stop [TS]

01:44:07   doing that I i'll pay you extra money to [TS]

01:44:09   not put your logo on the screen and do [TS]

01:44:10   not interrupt my program with other [TS]

01:44:12   things dancing across the bottom of my [TS]

01:44:14   screen [TS]

01:44:14   alright Marco I mean my I think my my [TS]

01:44:18   overall wrap up here for my topic list [TS]

01:44:21   but the lesson I have on here really is [TS]

01:44:23   for Apple to just show more focus you [TS]

01:44:28   know focus it has been i think the [TS]

01:44:30   attribute that I've been missing the [TS]

01:44:31   most in Apple's recent launches because [TS]

01:44:34   they're just getting so much more broad [TS]

01:44:36   that they're there are dressing so many [TS]

01:44:38   more kinds of products the larger [TS]

01:44:40   picture than ever the services list is [TS]

01:44:41   bigger than ever I i had it it does seem [TS]

01:44:45   like their focus is not where it used to [TS]

01:44:46   be and so I would like to just see more [TS]

01:44:49   focus and maybe that means ending some [TS]

01:44:51   product lines or ending some initiatives [TS]

01:44:53   that haven't worked out like you know [TS]

01:44:55   all the various like kits on iOS i think [TS]

01:44:58   a lot of those have not quite worked out [TS]

01:45:00   just like you just they've started so [TS]

01:45:02   much a lot of it has has fallen flat [TS]

01:45:05   maybe they should end of things and [TS]

01:45:07   actually increase their focus so we'll [TS]

01:45:08   see what happens there i'm not really [TS]

01:45:10   hold my breath on that one [TS]

01:45:12   you may be saved because the car is not [TS]

01:45:14   going to come out 2016 so you can [TS]

01:45:15   pretend right focus then all of a sudden [TS]

01:45:17   in 2018-19 guess what we make car like a [TS]

01:45:20   apple what happened to the focus [TS]

01:45:22   yeah and you buy one of the cars 2 [TS]

01:45:26   that'll be fun [TS]

01:45:26   probably super fun but what do I want [TS]

01:45:29   that [TS]

01:45:30   what do I want a one-point of Apple car [TS]

01:45:32   and whether you want one or not doesn't [TS]

01:45:34   it may appear here is the test at least [TS]

01:45:37   we'll be up by then you'll be looking [TS]

01:45:38   around you'll be restless [TS]

01:45:39   no see it's gonna happen already [TS]

01:45:41   replacing your tehsil hasn't arrived yet [TS]

01:45:44   I goodness right [TS]

01:45:47   I told John done so Johnny anything else [TS]

01:45:49   for any closing thoughts now the only [TS]

01:45:52   other item I had on my list was like a [TS]

01:45:54   vague one that I couldn't nail down was [TS]

01:45:56   you know they're there are so many [TS]

01:45:59   remaining bugs so many sort of obvious [TS]

01:46:01   bugs that not obvious and how to fix [TS]

01:46:04   them but obvious that something is not [TS]

01:46:06   working great [TS]

01:46:07   and you always just hope that some kids [TS]

01:46:10   job somewhere to fix those and it's kind [TS]

01:46:14   of I don't know if this one counts as [TS]

01:46:16   this is the vague and probably not [TS]

01:46:18   really plausible because I don't know if [TS]

01:46:20   Apple makes I don't know how much extra [TS]

01:46:22   value Apple ads by fixing the staff of [TS]

01:46:24   bugs but we all encounter them from time [TS]

01:46:27   to time and just just makes me wish like [TS]

01:46:29   the only time i can feel like this wish [TS]

01:46:32   is not a fantastical are wishing for a [TS]

01:46:35   pony is when like I know the developer [TS]

01:46:38   who makes the application it's like one [TS]

01:46:41   person who makes an application and I [TS]

01:46:44   know that if I report this bug this one [TS]

01:46:46   person will see that bug report and [TS]

01:46:50   realize that they are embarrassed that [TS]

01:46:53   this bug happens and they don't want [TS]

01:46:54   their application to have this bug and [TS]

01:46:56   they'll fix it and then within a month [TS]

01:46:58   or two it will be fixed but that just [TS]

01:47:02   doesn't happen with things that are made [TS]

01:47:04   by apple if you find some small bug like [TS]

01:47:07   that was just kind of embarrassing i [TS]

01:47:08   like text overruns the bounding box that [TS]

01:47:11   is supposed to be in or clicking on this [TS]

01:47:13   thing doesn't work until the second time [TS]

01:47:15   you click it because of some event you [TS]

01:47:16   know responder chain business or [TS]

01:47:18   whatever an individual developer who you [TS]

01:47:21   know will want to fix that because it [TS]

01:47:24   doesn't seem like a big deal on their [TS]

01:47:25   embarrassed that they have an [TS]

01:47:26   application that you have to click the [TS]

01:47:27   checkbox twice to make it you know what [TS]

01:47:28   I mean like it's not a crasher not a [TS]

01:47:31   data loss bug but they'll fix it kind of [TS]

01:47:34   just individual pride and craftsmanship [TS]

01:47:37   or whatever and it depresses me that the [TS]

01:47:40   larger the organization gets the less [TS]

01:47:42   hope you have to those type of bugs will [TS]

01:47:44   ever get addressed unless you just [TS]

01:47:45   happen to catch somebody on a good day [TS]

01:47:47   when they don't have anything else to do [TS]

01:47:48   you know when they're not working on [TS]

01:47:50   their p1's or whatever they just [TS]

01:47:52   happened to go and fix that because [TS]

01:47:53   fixing that could cause some other [TS]

01:47:54   problem that could cascade into a thing [TS]

01:47:56   that costs are multi-billion dollar [TS]

01:47:57   company lots of money and reduces their [TS]

01:48:00   customer set an individual developer [TS]

01:48:02   just fix it in their app and I kinda [TS]

01:48:05   like that and I kind of Miss that from [TS]

01:48:06   for Apple but that's that's getting into [TS]

01:48:10   that's that's why it's not on my list of [TS]

01:48:12   a corner anyway but some of my list i [TS]

01:48:14   have a bunch of simple concrete things [TS]

01:48:16   that could totally happen [TS]

01:48:18   would make me happy and by the way i [TS]

01:48:20   think most of them if I had to predict [TS]

01:48:22   will these things happen [TS]

01:48:24   it's a pretty good shot for a lot of [TS]

01:48:25   them so I think 2016 will be a good year [TS]

01:48:28   for me hold out hope for the filesystem [TS]

01:48:30   well maybe maybe not that front i keep [TS]

01:48:33   saying 2017 not that good [TS]

01:48:35   yeah goodness all right we good are we [TS]

01:48:37   good [TS]

01:48:38   thanks a lot 23 sponsored this week [TS]

01:48:40   backblaze casper and blue apron and [TS]

01:48:42   we'll see you next week [TS]

01:48:44   now the show is over they didn't even [TS]

01:48:49   mean to begin as it was accidental [TS]

01:48:53   it was accidental John research Marco [TS]

01:48:59   and Casey would let [TS]

01:49:01   because it was accidentally was [TS]

01:49:05   accidental and you can find the show [TS]

01:49:09   know today [TS]

01:49:10   DP died and it for twitter follow them [TS]

01:49:17   yes eyl ISS so that's Casey list and a [TS]

01:49:23   co-pay rm20 Marco Arment are see you at [TS]

01:49:31   Syracuse [TS]

01:49:44   we did it [TS]

01:49:47   it clearly you need to give much more [TS]

01:49:48   specific instructions for Marco and I i [TS]

01:49:50   thought i was so specific [TS]

01:49:52   I like it was concise and specific [TS]

01:49:55   instructions and just that I don't know [TS]

01:49:57   maybe I should have given more examples [TS]

01:49:59   maybe we should give more examples of [TS]

01:50:00   what not to do [TS]

01:50:01   I don't know it's just forget to wish [TS]

01:50:02   for my my theoretical 17 inch 4k macbook [TS]

01:50:07   pro that with skylight might be around [TS]

01:50:09   five pounds right 17 inch 4k macbook pro [TS]

01:50:14   mmm thinking about it makes a lot of [TS]

01:50:17   sense think you'd be better off wishing [TS]

01:50:20   for a 17 inch iPad pro with a keyboard [TS]

01:50:23   that is more firmly attached and that'll [TS]

01:50:27   be as fast as year as the sky like a [TS]

01:50:29   macbook pro in like three or four years [TS]

01:50:31   mmm yeah no I mean it thats a dude [TS]

01:50:34   that's why it's a longshot stretch i'm [TS]

01:50:36   not even sure i would buy one [TS]

01:50:37   yeah would you use the 17 inch laptop [TS]

01:50:39   dunno well bigger than you are haha he's [TS]

01:50:43   like when you know I I'm not carrying my [TS]

01:50:45   life everyday I i bring it on trips when [TS]

01:50:48   I have to get worked on and whenever i [TS]

01:50:50   do that i am always starving for more [TS]

01:50:52   screen space just screen share to your [TS]

01:50:55   imac home [TS]

01:50:56   well and it's all in your mind man [TS]

01:51:02   yeah i mean like we have giant space is [TS]

01:51:04   just like your opinion man i'm just [TS]

01:51:08   doing a 5k imac you're using a bigger [TS]

01:51:11   screen it's not a smaller screen but [TS]

01:51:14   it's bigger [TS]

01:51:15   there's so many pixels you won't notice [TS]

01:51:17   the difference [TS]

01:51:18   I mean like it you we have everyone's [TS]

01:51:21   like you always do this everything [TS]

01:51:22   because this giant heavy aircraft [TS]

01:51:23   carrier and yes the last time we saw [TS]

01:51:25   what it was but now like that the [TS]

01:51:28   17-nation i think last time we start [TS]

01:51:30   with something like six pounds right [TS]

01:51:32   something like that but like in at the [TS]

01:51:34   same time the 15-inch was like five or [TS]

01:51:37   five and a half while the 17-inch was [TS]

01:51:39   like six and a half so you know you can [TS]

01:51:41   see that the ratio there you know it's [TS]

01:51:43   not that much more than efficient well [TS]

01:51:45   now since then the 15-inch has gotten [TS]

01:51:48   way smaller and lighter with the red [TS]

01:51:50   transition with the Scylla tradition [TS]

01:51:52   it's probably gonna be even more so [TS]

01:51:54   so i'm guessing it would be possible [TS]

01:51:56   with Sky lake [TS]

01:51:57   make a 72-inch that had a reasonable [TS]

01:51:59   battery life that is roughly five and a [TS]

01:52:02   half pounds and maybe even five pounds [TS]

01:52:05   depending on you know how can they can [TS]

01:52:06   they can go with the battery without [TS]

01:52:08   having to be too small so that is [TS]

01:52:11   different like it puts a different spin [TS]

01:52:14   on things i mean like with the sky like [TS]

01:52:15   thing I bet we're going to see a lot [TS]

01:52:18   more people saying you know what now [TS]

01:52:20   that it's so much thinner and lighter i [TS]

01:52:22   might go 15-inch next time we're would [TS]

01:52:24   have gone 30 days before you go I think [TS]

01:52:26   we'll start seeing people justify going [TS]

01:52:28   bigger in the same way like look all the [TS]

01:52:31   ipad people just discovered you know [TS]

01:52:33   what after all having a much bigger one [TS]

01:52:36   is more productive [TS]

01:52:37   look at that like the same thing applies [TS]

01:52:39   with computers laptops like as they're [TS]

01:52:42   going to get thinner and lighter we're [TS]

01:52:43   going to see a lot more people say you [TS]

01:52:45   know what i was gonna go air but now [TS]

01:52:46   I'll go 13 inch pro I was into a 13 inch [TS]

01:52:49   pro now I'm gonna go 15-inch brokers and [TS]

01:52:51   I i fell in the store it was so much [TS]

01:52:52   lighter than I expected and wow all this [TS]

01:52:55   extra screen space is really nice i can [TS]

01:52:57   get a lot more stuff done [TS]

01:52:59   like obviously this is not news people [TS]

01:53:01   use computers where it seems like that's [TS]

01:53:02   news to ipad people but you know that [TS]

01:53:04   might happen at the mac line where if [TS]

01:53:06   they have a bigger one [TS]

01:53:07   you know what that actually is pretty [TS]

01:53:09   nice so I don't know again it's just a [TS]

01:53:13   stretch and i'm not even sure i would [TS]

01:53:14   buy one but that would be really cool i [TS]

01:53:16   think it's an opportunity for them to [TS]

01:53:19   make up for the sins of the past and [TS]

01:53:20   actually put a different keyboard on it [TS]

01:53:22   than the one that's on the macbook one [TS]

01:53:23   right well and that's a big deal until [TS]

01:53:25   like I didn't mention the keyboard like [TS]

01:53:27   I would expect all the new skylight [TS]

01:53:29   macbook pros if they're going to be [TS]

01:53:31   redesigned it all looks and sounds like [TS]

01:53:32   they probably will be i would expect [TS]

01:53:34   them to get not the macbook one keyboard [TS]

01:53:36   but the keyboard that's that's in the [TS]

01:53:38   new standalone apple keyboard the magic [TS]

01:53:40   is a comment keyboard is that the new [TS]

01:53:42   standalone keyboard i'm guessing it get [TS]

01:53:43   that one which is it not nearly as bad [TS]

01:53:47   as the map on keyboard it's you know it [TS]

01:53:50   is in that style but it is done i think [TS]

01:53:53   way better [TS]

01:53:54   I don't mean like a travel I mean as in [TS]

01:53:57   morkie specific the 17-inch you have so [TS]

01:53:59   much more room to put keys so put [TS]

01:54:01   full-size our keys and put in all the [TS]

01:54:03   home and keys and page up and page down [TS]

01:54:05   instead of taking these remember one of [TS]

01:54:08   my early [TS]

01:54:08   reviewed like being at one of the non [TS]

01:54:10   unibody aluminum powerbook g4 is for [TS]

01:54:13   arstechnica and like that that is [TS]

01:54:16   seriously screenshot showing the same [TS]

01:54:17   keyboard on the 12-inch the 15-inch [TS]

01:54:20   SMU's literally the same keyboard and [TS]

01:54:23   you know on a 12-inch goes edge-to-edge [TS]

01:54:24   and on the 17 inch its vast sea of [TS]

01:54:27   aluminum with this tiny little keyboard [TS]

01:54:29   floating at it's like bring you have so [TS]

01:54:30   much more room [TS]

01:54:31   add more keys please I don't know I i [TS]
