184: Procedural Marriage Mistakes

00:00:00   it's the special episode time was doing [TS]

00:00:01   special episode of directives most topic [TS]

00:00:05   I don't know what the one [TS]

00:00:06   what the hell's the topic ever on that [TS]

00:00:08   show your libido mosquito your libido [TS]

00:00:13   yep that was a smells like teen spirit [TS]

00:00:16   for those keeping track [TS]

00:00:18   smells like teen spirit was a band no it [TS]

00:00:21   was what was the song by the band [TS]

00:00:24   Nirvana i'm aware of the song yeah and [TS]

00:00:26   in that song they were lyrics that [TS]

00:00:28   rhymed a lot and I said one of them and [TS]

00:00:31   that was a reference John is explaining [TS]

00:00:33   Nirvana to us [TS]

00:00:35   I've made the reference you had no [TS]

00:00:36   reaction that I explained the reference [TS]

00:00:37   came from still no reaction i feel like [TS]

00:00:39   i have to go deeper [TS]

00:00:40   I didn't think it was funny enough to [TS]

00:00:41   react to music is like a series of [TS]

00:00:44   sounds that people find please call us [TS]

00:00:46   at this episode is gonna go [TS]

00:00:48   is this how it's going to start it is [TS]

00:00:52   August we just recorded a show two days [TS]

00:00:54   ago and we're recording again due to [TS]

00:00:56   this time is my vacation schedule for [TS]

00:00:58   once [TS]

00:00:58   nothing really has happened I mean if [TS]

00:01:01   some some things have happened like in [TS]

00:01:03   the world but nothing really has [TS]

00:01:04   happened in tech with the exception that [TS]

00:01:06   we have some Twitter update that's kind [TS]

00:01:09   of interesting but other than that what [TS]

00:01:11   else is going on [TS]

00:01:12   can we can we dig a little deeper in [TS]

00:01:14   this vacation thing you speak up how do [TS]

00:01:15   you know whether or not you're on [TS]

00:01:17   vacation just whether or not you wake up [TS]

00:01:18   in your own bed [TS]

00:01:19   oh wow yeah that is how this episode is [TS]

00:01:24   gonna be yeah yeah yeah so let me [TS]

00:01:27   rephrase by saying i'll be out of town [TS]

00:01:28   dogs they're so yes i'll be out of town [TS]

00:01:35   next week [TS]

00:01:37   are you taking adam with you because [TS]

00:01:38   that's how you can tell right actually [TS]

00:01:40   that's true and the whole family is [TS]

00:01:42   going including [TS]

00:01:43   perhaps oh it hops interest and hops [TS]

00:01:47   yeah I already said he willing to share [TS]

00:01:49   where you're going would you rather keep [TS]

00:01:50   that close to the best we're going to [TS]

00:01:51   the beach for you know just like what [TS]

00:01:53   everyone else does it and we figure it's [TS]

00:01:54   not hot enough here we need to go [TS]

00:01:56   somewhere a little bit hotter can tell [TS]

00:01:58   you all about hot these days [TS]

00:01:59   actually today wasn't terrible is only [TS]

00:02:01   about 90 95 and I don't know what that [TS]

00:02:02   is in Celsius because I believe in units [TS]

00:02:04   to make sense anyway we should probably [TS]

00:02:06   start with some follow-up now that I've [TS]

00:02:07   given everyone at least a little bit of [TS]

00:02:09   grief market just dropped into second [TS]

00:02:12   ago twitter has enabled the quality [TS]

00:02:15   filter for everyone and as far as we can [TS]

00:02:17   tell it's the same quality filter that [TS]

00:02:19   verified users get but I I don't think [TS]

00:02:22   mark when i noticed this but we have [TS]

00:02:24   just confirmed it i think john is the [TS]

00:02:26   one that noticed this it is on by [TS]

00:02:28   default which is super interesting and [TS]

00:02:31   not the case for verified users so [TS]

00:02:33   verified users who have not turn this on [TS]

00:02:35   they wouldn't have this on in and Marco [TS]

00:02:39   looked at the overcast account which is [TS]

00:02:40   verified and in your quality filter is [TS]

00:02:42   not on is that correct yeah basically [TS]

00:02:44   like if if you if you have the setting [TS]

00:02:46   before it will keep your setting even if [TS]

00:02:50   you never touched it so it's not like [TS]

00:02:51   it's like a triple state like you know [TS]

00:02:52   10 or no kind of thing where like no [TS]

00:02:55   would just be the default it's not that [TS]

00:02:56   it's actually like if you had before and [TS]

00:02:59   you didn't set it you have it off now [TS]

00:03:00   and it doesn't matter anyway so this is [TS]

00:03:03   great news because this is exactly what [TS]

00:03:05   we were complaining about last episode [TS]

00:03:07   and last we talked about this also why [TS]

00:03:10   wouldn't you have this available for [TS]

00:03:11   everybody and last episode I even said [TS]

00:03:14   like you know I'd even go as far as to [TS]

00:03:16   say that this should be on by default [TS]

00:03:17   and when I was saying that I had no hope [TS]

00:03:21   that they would actually ever to this [TS]

00:03:23   both making the film making the feature [TS]

00:03:26   available for everybody and also making [TS]

00:03:27   it on by default either of those things [TS]

00:03:29   would have shocked me to have them both [TS]

00:03:31   happen and from 2 to both happened very [TS]

00:03:33   quickly [TS]

00:03:34   it's a pretty major step and first of [TS]

00:03:36   all it's a little bit of a slap in the [TS]

00:03:38   face that like apparently there was no [TS]

00:03:40   reason really why they couldn't have [TS]

00:03:41   done for everybody already like before [TS]

00:03:44   this but ok when it lets you know set [TS]

00:03:46   that aside for now we have it now so you [TS]

00:03:49   know positive thoughts we have it now [TS]

00:03:50   this is very good this is way better [TS]

00:03:52   than I expected [TS]

00:03:53   this is a sign that maybe maybe twitter [TS]

00:03:56   is starting to take [TS]

00:03:57   their abuse problems and they're [TS]

00:03:59   trolling problems and they're just [TS]

00:04:00   general jerkiness problems maybe they're [TS]

00:04:02   starting to take that a little more [TS]

00:04:03   seriously and you know honestly maybe [TS]

00:04:06   not this could be just like an easy [TS]

00:04:08   quick fix they just threw out there [TS]

00:04:10   because they had it ready but even doing [TS]

00:04:12   this is a big step and if it bodes well [TS]

00:04:15   for for future steps in this direction [TS]

00:04:17   additional steps in this direction [TS]

00:04:18   that's good too so I i'm hopeful about [TS]

00:04:22   I'm kind of a little bit reserved in [TS]

00:04:23   that but I'm hopeful that Twitter is [TS]

00:04:26   starting to really care about this [TS]

00:04:27   problem and then take steps to to [TS]

00:04:29   improve their service for everybody and [TS]

00:04:31   not just celebrities [TS]

00:04:33   yep John your thoughts now the verified [TS]

00:04:36   thing is still out there like the idea [TS]

00:04:37   that if you have an account that [TS]

00:04:39   frequently people are impersonating you [TS]

00:04:41   and and stirring things up by tweeting [TS]

00:04:43   things to pretend to be you that people [TS]

00:04:44   then retweeted screenshot and thank you [TS]

00:04:47   said and come back you know like the [TS]

00:04:48   whole the idea of verifying yes this is [TS]

00:04:51   the i am really the person with this [TS]

00:04:53   name and this you know picture and [TS]

00:04:56   there's all these attributes that should [TS]

00:04:58   still be open even though the quality [TS]

00:05:00   filter is open to everybody so is there [TS]

00:05:01   still a ways to go with that and like [TS]

00:05:03   the quality filter it's the type of [TS]

00:05:05   thing where they totally could like it [TS]

00:05:06   already featured exists in some ways [TS]

00:05:08   it's easier to enable for everybody's in [TS]

00:05:10   some ways it's harder because there is [TS]

00:05:12   that human component of verifying your [TS]

00:05:13   identity or whatever and as we said in [TS]

00:05:16   the past you'll find charge money for it [TS]

00:05:17   or something like that but it [TS]

00:05:19   verification continues to be the [TS]

00:05:22   appstore of twitter where rejections [TS]

00:05:25   don't make any sense and no one can [TS]

00:05:26   figure it out and it's all mysterious [TS]

00:05:28   like what we recently the ATP FM account [TS]

00:05:30   got rejected for verification [TS]

00:05:32   I saw a couple other puzzling rejections [TS]

00:05:35   Butler and people other people are [TS]

00:05:37   getting verified so no one knows how it [TS]

00:05:38   works anyway that's that's the next [TS]

00:05:40   stepping stone in easy things Twitter [TS]

00:05:43   could have done a long time ago but [TS]

00:05:44   didn't [TS]

00:05:44   yeah and also you know to give them [TS]

00:05:47   credit also you know the the whole [TS]

00:05:49   verified status is problematic as we [TS]

00:05:52   discussed before and you know one of my [TS]

00:05:54   core arguments about verified being a [TS]

00:05:56   problem was you know it was it was more [TS]

00:05:59   okay when it was only about identity [TS]

00:06:02   verification and it's it starts becoming [TS]

00:06:04   increasingly problematic as features or [TS]

00:06:08   status are tied to it and so what [TS]

00:06:10   they've done [TS]

00:06:10   here is they just removed a major [TS]

00:06:13   feature that was exclusive to verify [TS]

00:06:15   people before and they made available [TS]

00:06:17   for everybody so it has it has taken a [TS]

00:06:18   big chunk out of the out of the problem [TS]

00:06:20   the problems are still there [TS]

00:06:22   there are still lots of other problems [TS]

00:06:23   with verifies that is being what it is [TS]

00:06:25   and bring what it does and having this [TS]

00:06:27   weird inconsistent you know subjective [TS]

00:06:29   review process but removing a major [TS]

00:06:32   feature of it as an exclusive and making [TS]

00:06:34   it available to everybody is a big step [TS]

00:06:35   in the right direction the sounds [TS]

00:06:37   excellent [TS]

00:06:38   John you are poorer in the last few days [TS]

00:06:42   then you were the few days prior would [TS]

00:06:44   you like to tell us about that [TS]

00:06:46   yeah i finally bought a camera I don't [TS]

00:06:48   hate you [TS]

00:06:49   discussions about that shows no big [TS]

00:06:51   surprise about the camera that we have [TS]

00:06:53   been talking about the camera that i [TS]

00:06:54   tested for a week [TS]

00:06:56   the camera was pretty much a no-brainer [TS]

00:06:57   for me you know because like it i I'd [TS]

00:07:00   and as many people as soon as i [TS]

00:07:01   mentioned cameras all the camera people [TS]

00:07:02   wrote and tell me all the different [TS]

00:07:04   cameras they like it was good to hear [TS]

00:07:05   different people stories about what they [TS]

00:07:06   liked about their camera some people [TS]

00:07:08   trying to sell me a micro four-thirds [TS]

00:07:09   some people trying to sell me on the [TS]

00:07:10   aps-c Fugees and you know the [TS]

00:07:13   availability of lenses and how cheap [TS]

00:07:15   they are and how good quality they are [TS]

00:07:16   in this is a lots of different arguments [TS]

00:07:18   on on all sides but the you know the [TS]

00:07:21   sony is the is the devil I know sort of [TS]

00:07:23   and it has several attributes that area [TS]

00:07:25   like specifically in terms of first [TS]

00:07:27   photos for action shots and how good it [TS]

00:07:29   is at finding focus very quickly we [TS]

00:07:31   should point out once again you have [TS]

00:07:32   again failed to mention the model number [TS]

00:07:34   it is the sony a6300 hundred right i [TS]

00:07:36   mentioned that before [TS]

00:07:37   yeah x3 lot of this episode I was [TS]

00:07:40   sitting here waiting to get into the [TS]

00:07:41   shadows waiting and waiting and waiting [TS]

00:07:43   and waiting [TS]

00:07:44   you already know right yeah and the [TS]

00:07:46   small size because a lot of the other [TS]

00:07:48   aps-c cameras like oh it's also an aps-c [TS]

00:07:50   but the Saudis are really very small on [TS]

00:07:52   and that that accounts for everyone uses [TS]

00:07:54   not quite ready to sign up for the big [TS]

00:07:56   giant camera sony lenses are the [TS]

00:07:58   situation is not as great as other [TS]

00:08:00   cameras i acknowledge that was my most [TS]

00:08:02   difficult part i knew i was going to get [TS]

00:08:03   the body i got the body without any [TS]

00:08:04   lenses i know i didn't want the kit lens [TS]

00:08:06   because i had it and it's not great [TS]

00:08:08   that's I decide what I was going to get [TS]

00:08:10   the easiest and the first lens purchase [TS]

00:08:12   I'd i got was the 50 millimeter 1.8 that [TS]

00:08:17   Sony cells because i had rented that i [TS]

00:08:19   used it i used to take pictures of [TS]

00:08:20   people's face people's faces indoors [TS]

00:08:22   with low light and i got [TS]

00:08:23   a lot of good pictures out of it and i [TS]

00:08:24   really liked it and yes many good point [TS]

00:08:26   out 15 years is a little bit close yet [TS]

00:08:28   don't get a backup a lot to get people [TS]

00:08:31   from the right way an indoor environment [TS]

00:08:32   but that's somewhat problematic but the [TS]

00:08:35   thing is a tutu barks this one the sony [TS]

00:08:38   35 any other 35 so I saw were all not as [TS]

00:08:41   good lenses as the 50 in terms of [TS]

00:08:44   optical quality and you know if it has [TS]

00:08:46   stabilization all these other things the [TS]

00:08:48   50 was the you know they were not as [TS]

00:08:49   good lenses and they cost similar amount [TS]

00:08:51   so you can expect $350 for worse [TS]

00:08:53   35-millimeter I'd rather spend fifty [TS]

00:08:55   dollars on a better 50 and the second [TS]

00:08:57   part is I like to create candid shots [TS]

00:09:00   and like posed shots that much and [TS]

00:09:01   having a little bit of extra zooms even [TS]

00:09:03   indoors lets you get a nice good head [TS]

00:09:05   and shoulders portrait of someone you [TS]

00:09:08   know laughing in a natural way when they [TS]

00:09:10   don't know you're taking a picture if [TS]

00:09:11   you're not right in their face so I like [TS]

00:09:13   the 50 even if it is slightly [TS]

00:09:15   challenging in some situations and i [TS]

00:09:17   really like the pictures that come out [TS]

00:09:18   of it and then the next one I got my [TS]

00:09:20   waffles over a long time but eventually [TS]

00:09:23   pull the trigger is the really flat [TS]

00:09:25   20-millimeter pancake lens nice is not a [TS]

00:09:28   not a great lens and it's pretty [TS]

00:09:30   expensive for what you get but in the [TS]

00:09:32   end I had to say look you can't argue [TS]

00:09:33   with the the size it makes the camera [TS]

00:09:35   much smaller much lighter it's not a bad [TS]

00:09:38   lens it's just it's not probably worth [TS]

00:09:40   the money I paid for it but I got that [TS]

00:09:42   and I also got a bunch of lens [TS]

00:09:43   protectors which is not a thing that I [TS]

00:09:44   thought about before i read a couple [TS]

00:09:46   articles and I call you always get lunch [TS]

00:09:47   partner like you know what it is easier [TS]

00:09:49   to clean the lens protector and it's the [TS]

00:09:50   Quinlan's I imagine there if there's [TS]

00:09:52   dirt online protected it's worse than it [TS]

00:09:54   is during the line so maybe I'll come to [TS]

00:09:56   regret this but the cheap side bottom [TS]

00:09:57   and I'm gonna give that a go and I were [TS]

00:10:00   taking pictures just find trying to find [TS]

00:10:02   excuses to take pictures but the the [TS]

00:10:03   stuff around the house and everything [TS]

00:10:04   I've been playing with the I auto focus [TS]

00:10:08   on us that you have that assigned to one [TS]

00:10:10   of the buttons on your camera marco i [TS]

00:10:12   have not assigned to a but my camera [TS]

00:10:13   does have the iphone case i tried for a [TS]

00:10:15   few days upfront the end of turning it [TS]

00:10:19   off because sometimes like you know that [TS]

00:10:22   like most autofocus systems if you're [TS]

00:10:24   holding the the shutter that you know [TS]

00:10:26   that the trigger button down and it [TS]

00:10:28   doesn't have focus it will wait until it [TS]

00:10:30   does have focused before it shoots the [TS]

00:10:31   picture and there were a couple of [TS]

00:10:33   instances where I missed a shot that I [TS]

00:10:35   could have gotten [TS]

00:10:37   because it had focused distance wise but [TS]

00:10:40   had not found the I in time and it was [TS]

00:10:42   just a second too late finding the eye [TS]

00:10:44   and that that like medium shot so I [TS]

00:10:47   turned it off and i have experimented [TS]

00:10:48   with it since then that was a long time [TS]

00:10:49   ago and have been number firmware [TS]

00:10:51   updates instance maybe I should try it [TS]

00:10:52   but so they're mine and probably yours [TS]

00:10:54   as well has you can adjust that of like [TS]

00:10:57   what has priority should i take the [TS]

00:10:58   picture when you push the button or [TS]

00:10:59   should not take the picture until you [TS]

00:11:01   have focused and there's like three or [TS]

00:11:02   four settings in that round but you know [TS]

00:11:04   the extremes of the range are looking I [TS]

00:11:05   i press the button text picture [TS]

00:11:06   regardless whether you focus the other [TS]

00:11:08   extreme is never take the picture until [TS]

00:11:09   you have focus and the other thing with [TS]

00:11:11   autofocus it's weird on this camera [TS]

00:11:13   because there's it's not assigned [TS]

00:11:14   anything by default so you wouldn't even [TS]

00:11:15   know the future exist unless you a [TS]

00:11:16   custom assign it to a button and I [TS]

00:11:18   assigned it to about me you have to hold [TS]

00:11:19   down so i'm holding the shutter and then [TS]

00:11:22   my thumb is pressing the I autofocus and [TS]

00:11:24   if it doesn't find and I I just like go [TS]

00:11:26   back to regular you know portrait thing [TS]

00:11:27   I you can tell the green circles on [TS]

00:11:29   their face it's like I found the face [TS]

00:11:31   I'm gonna take a picture of it but if I [TS]

00:11:33   tap push down the little I autofocus [TS]

00:11:35   thing it doesn't immediately find an eye [TS]

00:11:36   then I'm like I will forget about that [TS]

00:11:38   but it doesn't really find an eye and [TS]

00:11:40   keep that held down it will track that [TS]

00:11:41   eyeball as the person moves pretty [TS]

00:11:42   amazing and here the future the cameras [TS]

00:11:45   have been hilarious up yes probably has [TS]

00:11:47   it too is a facial recognition and [TS]

00:11:51   ranking so you take small pictures of [TS]

00:11:53   everyone in your family like their face [TS]

00:11:54   looking at the camera and the camera [TS]

00:11:56   remembers them and with you all three of [TS]

00:11:58   them are in the frame it will prioritize [TS]

00:12:00   them in the order that you select who's [TS]

00:12:02   going to be in focus [TS]

00:12:03   wow it's pretty grim when you think [TS]

00:12:05   about it like Sorry Sorry second child [TS]

00:12:07   you're not as important as you have to [TS]

00:12:08   take in order right but if you think [TS]

00:12:10   about it it's actually you shouldn't [TS]

00:12:12   think about in terms of taking pictures [TS]

00:12:13   of your family think about it like [TS]

00:12:14   taking a picture of like you go on a [TS]

00:12:15   trip to New York City you want to take a [TS]

00:12:17   picture of your kid on York City Street [TS]

00:12:18   it won't accidentally grabbed focus on a [TS]

00:12:20   stranger was walking by right it will [TS]

00:12:22   always prioritize your kid looking at [TS]

00:12:24   you and never accidentally grabbed focus [TS]

00:12:26   on someone else so lots of cool [TS]

00:12:27   software-based features that are all [TS]

00:12:29   really fast and really good [TS]

00:12:31   that's probably why this thing its [TS]

00:12:32   batteries and sorry I really do I really [TS]

00:12:35   am happy with the the body of the camera [TS]

00:12:37   the lens situations a little grim [TS]

00:12:39   probably going to rent zoom for my [TS]

00:12:43   education now and if we like it we'll [TS]

00:12:45   probably buy it but no zooms out there [TS]

00:12:47   are calling out to me in terms of price [TS]

00:12:50   performance [TS]

00:12:50   I think we'll end up with is a way to [TS]

00:12:52   expensive like that uh that 17 to [TS]

00:12:55   whatever it is 17 270 thing that's not a [TS]

00:12:59   great lens but it's very compact very [TS]

00:13:01   versatile and then maybe something with [TS]

00:13:04   like a 300 millimeter range that's just [TS]

00:13:05   actually a crappy camera but it gives [TS]

00:13:07   the maximum range on it [TS]

00:13:08   I don't know anyway I think about [TS]

00:13:10   off-camera crap for a while so it's all [TS]

00:13:11   that's anyone askin I taking pictures of [TS]

00:13:14   course taking pictures of my family [TS]

00:13:16   playing pokemon go against what they do [TS]

00:13:17   when we're all homes that go out for [TS]

00:13:19   walks and capture Pokemon and taking [TS]

00:13:23   pictures in the supermarket and [TS]

00:13:24   generally and being annoying to my kids [TS]

00:13:25   and just trying out the camera but lots [TS]

00:13:27   of fun i'm happy with it like i said in [TS]

00:13:29   34 years old just buy a full-frame [TS]

00:13:31   camera [TS]

00:13:32   yeah so a couple of notes first of all [TS]

00:13:34   good call on the pancake lens the [TS]

00:13:36   20-millimeter pancake I i wish that lens [TS]

00:13:39   was available in full frame but it's not [TS]

00:13:41   so i can't really use it but we for our [TS]

00:13:45   5d mark two that we've had our big [TS]

00:13:47   camera for a long time ever since they [TS]

00:13:49   came out until I got this camera a [TS]

00:13:51   couple years back when it came out we [TS]

00:13:52   got the cannon 40-millimeter EF pancake [TS]

00:13:54   and that is a great lens and take a [TS]

00:13:56   hundred and fifty bucks and its really [TS]

00:13:58   good quality lens and it's incredibly [TS]

00:14:01   small and the effect that a very small [TS]

00:14:03   light lens has on the way your camera [TS]

00:14:06   feels and how just how how you handle it [TS]

00:14:09   where you bring it how often you bring [TS]

00:14:11   it it's a massive difference and so I [TS]

00:14:14   strongly suggest if anybody has has a [TS]

00:14:16   camera that then and you don't have any [TS]

00:14:19   really small like pancake or [TS]

00:14:20   pancake-like lenses just get one and try [TS]

00:14:23   it because you will bring your camera [TS]

00:14:25   more places you'll be amazed how how [TS]

00:14:27   much of a difference it makes if you [TS]

00:14:29   have a cannon [TS]

00:14:30   I think they recently made a second [TS]

00:14:32   pancake have been paying that much [TS]

00:14:33   attention i think there's that there's a [TS]

00:14:34   a wider angle one like somewhere in the [TS]

00:14:37   twenties but there's the 40 millimeter [TS]

00:14:39   pancake it's fantastic and whatever pain [TS]

00:14:42   tends to become popular last you know [TS]

00:14:43   five years or so so whatever system you [TS]

00:14:46   have [TS]

00:14:47   look for the pancake lens in a somewhat [TS]

00:14:49   wide focal length and use it and you'll [TS]

00:14:52   be you'll be very surprised how good it [TS]

00:14:54   is and how easy just to carry your [TS]

00:14:57   camera and with it and in fact for that [TS]

00:14:58   reason my camera like I have I have the [TS]

00:15:01   the 35 2.84 [TS]

00:15:04   I'm 55 1.8 and the 90 macro in the sony [TS]

00:15:08   fe line and i almost always have a [TS]

00:15:12   35-millimeter 2.8 on there because it is [TS]

00:15:14   just so small it is not a pancake lens [TS]

00:15:17   it is it is not quite that that short [TS]

00:15:20   distance wise but it is it is still very [TS]

00:15:23   small and just did the difference that [TS]

00:15:26   makes on how the camera feels just [TS]

00:15:28   immense they've been saying so [TS]

00:15:29   definitely get a pancake lens if you can [TS]

00:15:32   secondly i will point out also that I'm [TS]

00:15:36   kind of surprised you picked this camera [TS]

00:15:37   based on our discussions because for [TS]

00:15:41   what for what you wanted which is like [TS]

00:15:43   you basically wanted superzoom [TS]

00:15:45   replacement and this isn't that you know [TS]

00:15:48   sony has the rx10 and there are many [TS]

00:15:50   other brands that have that has two [TS]

00:15:52   presumes as well many of which are very [TS]

00:15:53   good and all of our listeners wrote in [TS]

00:15:56   to say that the micro four-thirds was [TS]

00:15:59   and that i think some people my point [TS]

00:16:01   about fuji x4 this attribute as well but [TS]

00:16:03   especially micro four-thirds was very [TS]

00:16:05   good for zoom lenses because of the [TS]

00:16:07   smaller sensors and therefore having had [TS]

00:16:09   been able to have smaller lenses and [TS]

00:16:11   less complex lenses for big zoom reach [TS]

00:16:14   so I'm kind of surprised you didn't go [TS]

00:16:16   with that for that reason all these [TS]

00:16:18   systems have these different pluses and [TS]

00:16:19   minuses as well as we discussed micro [TS]

00:16:22   four-thirds really excels in in things [TS]

00:16:24   being generally little bit cheaper lens [TS]

00:16:26   be a little cheaper a lot a lot more [TS]

00:16:28   lens choices it's been around for so [TS]

00:16:30   long and so many different brands make [TS]

00:16:31   the lenses for it [TS]

00:16:32   sony really excels in sensor quality and [TS]

00:16:36   recently in focus advances autofocus [TS]

00:16:39   advances in Maryland but its overall [TS]

00:16:42   it's only really especially excels in [TS]

00:16:44   having really amazing sensors getting [TS]

00:16:46   lots of megapixels with very low noise [TS]

00:16:48   an incredible dynamic range being able [TS]

00:16:51   to capture sony just kicks butt in that [TS]

00:16:53   area and where Sony is fall short is [TS]

00:16:57   some of the kind of pro eat type [TS]

00:17:00   handling stuff and also lends zoom [TS]

00:17:04   lenses in particular like Sony the the [TS]

00:17:06   primes that are available for sony [TS]

00:17:08   camera especially full-frame ones are [TS]

00:17:10   generally amazing they're a little [TS]

00:17:11   expensive but they're generally amazing [TS]

00:17:13   zooms are have always been so knees weak [TS]

00:17:16   point that the sony lineup has [TS]

00:17:17   had fairly mediocre zoom lenses and most [TS]

00:17:20   of the time they're like there's now [TS]

00:17:22   very recently has been a couple of [TS]

00:17:24   extremely high end ones that are huge [TS]

00:17:26   heavy and very expensive and in the new [TS]

00:17:27   sony g master line but basically [TS]

00:17:30   everything below that has been really [TS]

00:17:32   hit or miss mostly miss so I'm a little [TS]

00:17:34   bit surprised you picked it [TS]

00:17:36   given all that well so i guess i looked [TS]

00:17:39   at super Zoomers first before i was even [TS]

00:17:41   considering all this like better camera [TS]

00:17:43   thing because thatthat's all my wife's [TS]

00:17:44   thing like hey what she wants a better [TS]

00:17:45   camera right i was just like well my [TS]

00:17:47   super Zoomers getting kind of old maybe [TS]

00:17:48   look at another one and I looked at all [TS]

00:17:50   the super Zoomers they're out there and [TS]

00:17:51   they all seem like worse overall then my [TS]

00:17:55   camera like they were better in many [TS]

00:17:56   ways but also works in ways that I [TS]

00:17:57   didn't like it [TS]

00:17:58   zoom wasn't as big or like the rx10 like [TS]

00:18:00   that thing's gigantic throughout how big [TS]

00:18:01   that is it is huge and they didn't I was [TS]

00:18:04   on my things I didn't want to be too big [TS]

00:18:05   i didn't want to spend $1,500 for non [TS]

00:18:09   interchangeable lens camera just seemed [TS]

00:18:11   weird to me and I I'm you know I still [TS]

00:18:14   have my panasonic is still works [TS]

00:18:16   I don't use a bit the thing that was the [TS]

00:18:18   real convencer and you know the reason [TS]

00:18:20   I'm glad as I rented it I took it for [TS]

00:18:22   the that the one time of year take the [TS]

00:18:24   most pictures like I take pictures you [TS]

00:18:25   know throughout the year probably not as [TS]

00:18:27   much as I should but when we go on our [TS]

00:18:29   vacation going out i take literally [TS]

00:18:30   thousands of pictures right that is the [TS]

00:18:32   most pictures that take all year in the [TS]

00:18:33   most demanding circumstances of the most [TS]

00:18:35   different people and the most different [TS]

00:18:36   environments and the super zoom for the [TS]

00:18:38   waves thing you know taking pictures in [TS]

00:18:40   the ways i know is that both cameras to [TS]

00:18:42   the beach use the superzoom a lot but by [TS]

00:18:44   the end of the trip even when we were at [TS]

00:18:46   the ocean i was using this camera and [TS]

00:18:47   yeah I couldn't get up as close it [TS]

00:18:49   probably helps that the days but I was [TS]

00:18:51   doing the beat of the surf was enclosed [TS]

00:18:52   so maybe would have been different was [TS]

00:18:54   farther away but because i still have [TS]

00:18:55   the other camera and even with these [TS]

00:18:57   things zoomed out I was happier with the [TS]

00:18:59   zoomed out pictures from this camera [TS]

00:19:00   that i could crop with the crappy zoom [TS]

00:19:02   lens that I rented like I didn't rent a [TS]

00:19:03   very expensive zoom lens like a [TS]

00:19:05   four-hundred-dollar zoom lens or [TS]

00:19:07   something [TS]

00:19:08   end of the range on it was you know half [TS]

00:19:11   to a third of what it is on the super [TS]

00:19:12   zoom and still this came out ahead and [TS]

00:19:14   as I said the reason i get expensive [TS]

00:19:16   cameras once you take pictures indoors [TS]

00:19:18   without a flash with a decent camera [TS]

00:19:19   like you can't go back to the other way [TS]

00:19:22   that's why don't like to hold marcos [TS]

00:19:24   cameras it's depressing you know you [TS]

00:19:26   don't want to think about it like that's [TS]

00:19:28   why you want to market for thirds like [TS]

00:19:29   the whole reason i'm spending money is [TS]

00:19:31   I want a bigger sensor that can get more [TS]

00:19:32   light and yes that means the lenses are [TS]

00:19:34   going to be more expensive and i could [TS]

00:19:36   get better zoom lens the micro [TS]

00:19:37   four-thirds like this is what I want I [TS]

00:19:39   want I want a big sensor i want pictures [TS]

00:19:42   that I couldn't take with any other [TS]

00:19:43   camera can't take my phone can take my [TS]

00:19:45   super them because there's just not [TS]

00:19:46   enough light and this is what that gives [TS]

00:19:49   me and can i use it for all my xoom [TS]

00:19:51   things for that one week here when I [TS]

00:19:53   need zoom the answer is apparently yes [TS]

00:19:55   like it's it's a different set of [TS]

00:19:56   compromises but I do take pictures [TS]

00:19:59   indoors and other things when i'm on [TS]

00:20:00   vacation and I get the proof is in the [TS]

00:20:01   pudding had both cameras there are used [TS]

00:20:03   both of them like if you watch the ratio [TS]

00:20:04   by the last trip to the ocean was like [TS]

00:20:06   I'm not even taking that one out of the [TS]

00:20:08   bag i'm just gonna use this one for [TS]

00:20:09   everything just because everything was [TS]

00:20:10   so much better about it except for the [TS]

00:20:12   zoom so and also I keep that I keep my [TS]

00:20:14   eye out for super letters I don't rule [TS]

00:20:16   out like later if they make if panasonic [TS]

00:20:18   resemble makes another camera like mine [TS]

00:20:20   that is just updated in all the ways but [TS]

00:20:22   maybe even a little bit more compact and [TS]

00:20:25   maybe optically a little bit better over [TS]

00:20:26   the same range i'll probably buy it [TS]

00:20:28   because those are cheap they're like you [TS]

00:20:30   know six or seven hundred dollars [TS]

00:20:31   compared to you know these [TS]

00:20:32   interchangeable lens cameras are having [TS]

00:20:34   some billion dollar so i'm pretty happy [TS]

00:20:36   with that [TS]

00:20:36   yeah i mean you'll pay that much for a [TS]

00:20:38   good zoom lens at least on the 100 [TS]

00:20:40   camera you have way more than that i'm [TS]

00:20:42   very happy zoom lens with a short-range [TS]

00:20:43   a thousand bucks yes i think so its it's [TS]

00:20:46   rough like I you know but and I'm just [TS]

00:20:48   thinking about like day-to-day I think [TS]

00:20:50   this will make me take more pictures [TS]

00:20:51   just normal stuff like my family you [TS]

00:20:53   know around the house and going out and [TS]

00:20:55   taking walks and stuff because i'm not [TS]

00:20:58   going to attach pics and we'll probably [TS]

00:20:59   just had a little pancake on there but [TS]

00:21:00   it's nice and we go out like after [TS]

00:21:02   school and after dinner was kind of dust [TS]

00:21:03   gets its dark but i can actually get [TS]

00:21:05   usable pictures you know of my family [TS]

00:21:09   walking on the street lights with this [TS]

00:21:10   camera without a flash and that just [TS]

00:21:12   wasn't it was an environment where i [TS]

00:21:14   would take any pictures before I [TS]

00:21:15   wouldn't try my phone and I wouldn't [TS]

00:21:16   bring my superzoom because the Superdome [TS]

00:21:18   is actually it's not heavier than this [TS]

00:21:20   but physically dimension wise it's [TS]

00:21:21   bigger than his camera with the pancake [TS]

00:21:24   lens on right so I feel like this is a [TS]

00:21:26   good compromise for me now and i'm sure [TS]

00:21:29   i'll learn a lot using it and then you [TS]

00:21:31   know we'll see where we go from here [TS]

00:21:32   I think these days so many photographic [TS]

00:21:36   needs are solved so well by just your [TS]

00:21:38   iphone and that and the progress that [TS]

00:21:40   that iphone cameras have made has been [TS]

00:21:42   so remarkable but [TS]

00:21:44   the areas that they will never be able [TS]

00:21:47   to match a standalone cameras are in our [TS]

00:21:50   areas where you just need a large [TS]

00:21:52   advance and expensive sensor you know [TS]

00:21:55   that like iphones have a lot of [TS]

00:21:56   constraints on that camera obviously [TS]

00:21:58   size is the most obvious but also cost [TS]

00:22:00   is a big one that camera module the [TS]

00:22:02   entire camera module has to costs like [TS]

00:22:04   thirty bucks and i forgot the component [TS]

00:22:05   breakdowns show it as but it's somewhere [TS]

00:22:07   in that range like the eighth [TS]

00:22:09   it's not a ton of money that goes into [TS]

00:22:10   that and so so you have no space you [TS]

00:22:14   have very little money and you have to [TS]

00:22:15   mass produce a ton of them [TS]

00:22:17   that's always going to be more limited [TS]

00:22:19   than what you can sell in a dedicated [TS]

00:22:21   high-end camera four thousand dollars [TS]

00:22:23   like that's it and that can have this [TS]

00:22:25   big body around this big sensor that's [TS]

00:22:27   way bigger than the phone center of this [TS]

00:22:28   giant lens taking off the front of it [TS]

00:22:30   relative giant relative to the phone [TS]

00:22:32   sensors and phones are going to always [TS]

00:22:34   be able to have liked more advanced [TS]

00:22:36   processing and software and tricks they [TS]

00:22:39   can do with the software to make up for [TS]

00:22:41   some of these some of these shortcomings [TS]

00:22:43   that they have been in there just tiny [TS]

00:22:45   little cheap optics [TS]

00:22:46   however i think one area where they are [TS]

00:22:49   always going to struggle against big [TS]

00:22:51   cameras is in low-light sensitivity and [TS]

00:22:54   and dynamic range little bit too but [TS]

00:22:56   especially light sensitivity is because [TS]

00:22:57   that is something where the physics are [TS]

00:22:59   just working so much against them and [TS]

00:23:01   that's probably never going to change [TS]

00:23:03   because phones are never going to become [TS]

00:23:04   these you know two-inch-thick things [TS]

00:23:08   that have that have this thousand-dollar [TS]

00:23:10   sensor and a amazing glass in front of [TS]

00:23:12   them like the market but that's just not [TS]

00:23:13   where they're going [TS]

00:23:14   so so I i think if you're going to buy a [TS]

00:23:17   camera that is not just your phone it [TS]

00:23:19   benefits you a lot to do to get one that [TS]

00:23:21   is exceptionally good in low-light just [TS]

00:23:24   to really maximize like the difference [TS]

00:23:26   and the justification for having a [TS]

00:23:28   separate camera at all well and again [TS]

00:23:31   you can never say never because I always [TS]

00:23:32   picture like a phone that's like this [TS]

00:23:34   you know magical thin thing where the [TS]

00:23:37   entire back of the phone is basically [TS]

00:23:38   one giant sensor plus this amazing [TS]

00:23:40   computing power to somehow combine all [TS]

00:23:42   white hitting that sensor without a lens [TS]

00:23:44   in front of it to figure you know I mean [TS]

00:23:46   like like gathering the task will be I [TS]

00:23:48   will gather all the light for you and [TS]

00:23:49   then magic computers will figure out all [TS]

00:23:52   the light hitting it like maybe this [TS]

00:23:53   thing that can tell what angle they have [TS]

00:23:54   the sensor and instead of just [TS]

00:23:55   levels of light like you do have enough [TS]

00:23:57   surface area basically for to imagine a [TS]

00:24:00   future from using an as-yet undetermined [TS]

00:24:02   technology where you would gather all [TS]

00:24:03   the light hitting the back of phone [TS]

00:24:04   that's plenty to have amazing the [TS]

00:24:06   light-dark rebut that technology's no no [TS]

00:24:10   we're on the horizon but I just you know [TS]

00:24:11   like it's not [TS]

00:24:12   we won't always be stuck with pinholes [TS]

00:24:14   this is what I'm saying so in the [TS]

00:24:15   distant future that could be solved but [TS]

00:24:18   for our lifetime i think probably [TS]

00:24:20   everything you said their holds we also [TS]

00:25:20   ah we got a couple of people asking us [TS]

00:25:25   or I think I might have just been the [TS]

00:25:26   same person twice ask you that's why we [TS]

00:25:30   didn't mention dslrs at all in in these [TS]

00:25:32   camera discussions recently and I have [TS]

00:25:34   my reasons do you guys have any reason [TS]

00:25:36   before it before i jump in too big to [TS]

00:25:38   carry [TS]

00:25:39   that's a good one I mean I'm serious I'm [TS]

00:25:41   not trying to be funny like the reason I [TS]

00:25:43   one of the biggest reasons on micro [TS]

00:25:45   four-thirds it was less about costs so [TS]

00:25:47   that was a small factor but more i knew [TS]

00:25:50   i was already going to have something [TS]

00:25:52   bigger than I really wanted that I had [TS]

00:25:54   to carry and if i'm going to do that I [TS]

00:25:57   want to try to make it as small as [TS]

00:25:59   possible and like John and talked about [TS]

00:26:00   earlier to my to my requirements micro [TS]

00:26:04   four-thirds was a really good happy [TS]

00:26:06   medium [TS]

00:26:07   and I didn't want to goes as big as a [TS]

00:26:09   DSLR although i went back and forth and [TS]

00:26:11   back and forth about it and in fact I [TS]

00:26:13   think I bothered underscored Marco a lot [TS]

00:26:16   asking what about this what about this [TS]

00:26:17   what about this what about that and and [TS]

00:26:19   eventually ended up on four thirds just [TS]

00:26:21   because I didn't want to carry it if you [TS]

00:26:23   have for me was size but also like [TS]

00:26:25   giving you know we've known for years of [TS]

00:26:27   even just tangentially you know not [TS]

00:26:30   really in the camera community but just [TS]

00:26:31   like touching on it because I was like [TS]

00:26:33   read things in dpreview and I think [TS]

00:26:34   that's how I figured out which [TS]

00:26:35   supersedes again everything you just see [TS]

00:26:37   which way the wind is blowing in the [TS]

00:26:38   wind was blowing away from dslrs for [TS]

00:26:40   regular people and I had a 5d mark two [TS]

00:26:44   borrowed from a particular source for my [TS]

00:26:48   brother's wedding that I used to take [TS]

00:26:49   pictures so I know how big they are no [TS]

00:26:51   heavy they are I know how did the little [TS]

00:26:53   mirror flappy thing and all the other [TS]

00:26:54   business like it just it just seems like [TS]

00:26:57   it's kind of like market with the BMW vs [TS]

00:26:59   Tesla the mirrorless one seems like oh [TS]

00:27:01   this is clearly the future and even [TS]

00:27:03   though because the market has been for [TS]

00:27:04   so long that the DSLR the high-end i'm [TS]

00:27:08   not sure that will always entirely hold [TS]

00:27:10   and you just it was way outside that you [TS]

00:27:14   know I'm the mirrorless camera I brought [TS]

00:27:16   is the whole selling point for me was [TS]

00:27:18   like is that it's so small that like the [TS]

00:27:20   lenses like comically big on it because [TS]

00:27:22   it's so darn small you can't can't get a [TS]

00:27:24   DSLR that there's not enough room [TS]

00:27:26   the main reason why i don't have a DSLR [TS]

00:27:28   anymore is what you guys said it's it's [TS]

00:27:30   mostly about sighs and also about the [TS]

00:27:32   way the wind is blowing like one of the [TS]

00:27:34   things that swayed me like we know we [TS]

00:27:35   had we bought the the 5d mark two when [TS]

00:27:38   it came out in 2008 and and TIFF and I [TS]

00:27:41   used a pair of those for her all her pro [TS]

00:27:44   photo stuff it went through you know all [TS]

00:27:46   that went through a lot of our like [TS]

00:27:48   high-end hobby and of course all our [TS]

00:27:50   family stuff until about a year ago when [TS]

00:27:53   i got my k7r to and when I was one of [TS]

00:27:57   the reasons i upgraded finally I mean [TS]

00:27:58   first of all a camera that run that that [TS]

00:28:01   isn't common use from 2008 until 2015 [TS]

00:28:04   pretty good at that [TS]

00:28:06   that's a pretty great run and that kind [TS]

00:28:08   of shows like the one of the reasons [TS]

00:28:11   able to go that long and it's still [TS]

00:28:13   agree camera just you know it's falling [TS]

00:28:14   behind on a lot of the tech areas now [TS]

00:28:16   but when you get a really high-end [TS]

00:28:18   full-frame profession [TS]

00:28:20   no grade camera at last similarly no [TS]

00:28:22   similar jobs mac pro which is the same [TS]

00:28:25   age actually happen but anyway the thing [TS]

00:28:30   with this large though is you know yet [TS]

00:28:31   they are really like you you can't just [TS]

00:28:33   casually throw a full-frame SLR into [TS]

00:28:36   your bag like that youth you gotta [TS]

00:28:39   really decide to take that with you it [TS]

00:28:41   you know they're they're big way let the [TS]

00:28:43   lenses are baby away a lot i didn't I [TS]

00:28:45   wasn't that convinced that the size [TS]

00:28:47   difference of matter that much until I [TS]

00:28:49   lived with the sony for a little while [TS]

00:28:51   and then I picked up tips camera to do [TS]

00:28:54   something with 1 i'm like oh my god like [TS]

00:28:56   if I was picking up an aircraft carrier [TS]

00:28:58   like what is this thing like what how do [TS]

00:29:01   I possibly use this for that was fucking [TS]

00:29:04   and but that being said though there are [TS]

00:29:07   still differences and mainly while the [TS]

00:29:11   while the mirrorless cameras have all [TS]

00:29:13   the action going with a lot of the tech [TS]

00:29:15   advances these days and in particular [TS]

00:29:17   lot of the lens advancements these days [TS]

00:29:18   I would still hesitate to call them [TS]

00:29:21   professional cameras because you know [TS]

00:29:24   pro it obviously it's very loaded word a [TS]

00:29:26   lot of markets and it is mostly used for [TS]

00:29:28   marketing in most places and it and it [TS]

00:29:31   goes both ways you know companies put [TS]

00:29:33   pro on put the name pro on things that [TS]

00:29:36   aren't necessarily quote professional [TS]

00:29:38   grade and a lot of people who are [TS]

00:29:40   professionals by progear aspirationally [TS]

00:29:43   and so it it because it there's a lot of [TS]

00:29:46   like vagary and what that means [TS]

00:29:48   however when you're when you're shooting [TS]

00:29:51   things with a pro camera you need [TS]

00:29:53   certain attributes that I don't think [TS]

00:29:56   any of the Maryland vendors offer [TS]

00:29:58   certainly sony doesn't offer first of [TS]

00:30:00   all you need a battery to not be as much [TS]

00:30:02   of a problem as it is i mean like that's [TS]

00:30:03   number one with the sonys is they are [TS]

00:30:06   awesome in so many ways but the battery [TS]

00:30:07   life is terrible and with and part of [TS]

00:30:10   that is because you have to drive this [TS]

00:30:11   LCD screen in the viewfinder and in the [TS]

00:30:13   in the back display so often you know [TS]

00:30:16   and and slrs get away with only having [TS]

00:30:18   the the back review screen and having [TS]

00:30:20   optical viewfinder so you don't really [TS]

00:30:22   know you're seeing the lens you're not [TS]

00:30:23   letting up screen for all that looking [TS]

00:30:25   time I think I recall seeing like a [TS]

00:30:27   battery case for your phone or [TS]

00:30:29   somebody's whenever you see those things [TS]

00:30:31   through the cameramen yeah like it's [TS]

00:30:33   just a big big [TS]

00:30:34   I'm battery yeah I mean there's battery [TS]

00:30:35   grips and and they they basically like [TS]

00:30:37   they like shove this protrusion into the [TS]

00:30:39   battery port had this big basin the [TS]

00:30:41   camera they usually holds two or three [TS]

00:30:42   batteries and that's you know that [TS]

00:30:44   that's something it obviously makes this [TS]

00:30:46   camera a lot larger and heavier and that [TS]

00:30:48   produces a lot of the advantages that [TS]

00:30:50   has super hits floor but also you know [TS]

00:30:52   SLR just larger in general so SLR [TS]

00:30:54   batteries can be physically larger they [TS]

00:30:56   can have way more capacity and on top of [TS]

00:30:58   all that they're you know they're what [TS]

00:30:59   they're doing less because they aren't [TS]

00:31:00   letting up to screen all the time so [TS]

00:31:02   hold on know how often are you charging [TS]

00:31:03   your sony though because my micro [TS]

00:31:05   four-thirds i charge one some month in [TS]

00:31:09   and even when i was at the beach [TS]

00:31:10   snapping a ton of pictures it I i might [TS]

00:31:14   have used maybe fifty percent of the [TS]

00:31:16   battery and it has you know to lcds just [TS]

00:31:18   like you're describing Lee are you [TS]

00:31:20   charging your sony like everyday when [TS]

00:31:22   you're on vacation or when you're taking [TS]

00:31:23   a lot of pictures you have to god that's [TS]

00:31:26   terrible [TS]

00:31:26   well I'll see it like i was i was [TS]

00:31:28   worried about the the battery life [TS]

00:31:30   because I'm dpreview they always give [TS]

00:31:31   like number of shots for your battery [TS]

00:31:33   capacity and my panasonic is actually [TS]

00:31:35   pretty good i forget what they had a [TS]

00:31:37   rated as like 400 something or 500 [TS]

00:31:39   something but I think like oh I take a [TS]

00:31:42   lot of pictures like I would always [TS]

00:31:43   bring a spare better i always bring the [TS]

00:31:44   spare battery to the beach with me with [TS]

00:31:46   my panasonic I never needed to use I [TS]

00:31:48   think maybe one year because i forgot [TS]

00:31:49   the charger at night the night before I [TS]

00:31:51   needed to use it right for the sony its [TS]

00:31:53   number was lower on dpreview like it was [TS]

00:31:55   it's like it wasn't that bad but it was [TS]

00:31:57   lower and I was like I look at the [TS]

00:31:58   physical size of the battery like really [TS]

00:32:00   this looks so small because the battery [TS]

00:32:01   is physically smaller than my panasonic [TS]

00:32:02   battery so i felt like all this is a bad [TS]

00:32:04   sign [TS]

00:32:05   so i have two batteries with me and I [TS]

00:32:07   always you know charge every night and [TS]

00:32:08   put the freshman and put the other one [TS]

00:32:09   there like I was all ready to go every [TS]

00:32:11   time I went to the beach I had two [TS]

00:32:12   batteries always lasted all day i don't [TS]

00:32:14   think i got below like I maybe I went [TS]

00:32:17   below fifty percent sometimes but I was [TS]

00:32:18   pleasantly surprised about the battery [TS]

00:32:21   life but forget about more than one day [TS]

00:32:22   if you're actively shooting a lot of [TS]

00:32:23   pictures the end of the day you're gonna [TS]

00:32:25   have to charge a thing and I don't mind [TS]

00:32:27   like that's all I wanted like can't do [TS]

00:32:29   most demanding day fine like it marcos [TS]

00:32:31   right that is not if you're like doing a [TS]

00:32:32   sporting event taking a bazillion [TS]

00:32:34   pictures would probably just burn [TS]

00:32:35   through the back clean you have to be [TS]

00:32:37   swapping the batteries but for my use [TS]

00:32:38   having two batteries and having knowing [TS]

00:32:41   that one can basically last almost [TS]

00:32:42   anything that I've done [TS]

00:32:44   and you know I don't mind carrying [TS]

00:32:45   another little batteries was not big [TS]

00:32:47   they're not heavy enough battery runs [TS]

00:32:48   out and swap it and it's not a big deal [TS]

00:32:49   so I would like it to be better as with [TS]

00:32:51   many things and it's like there's more [TS]

00:32:53   room in there maybe for battery but it [TS]

00:32:55   wasn't as as bad as I thought it would [TS]

00:32:57   be but it's definitely not like your [TS]

00:32:58   micro four thirds for your press charges [TS]

00:33:00   once a month forget about that [TS]

00:33:01   no i mean because the estonian generally [TS]

00:33:03   better life is a little bit worse and [TS]

00:33:04   mine is worse than yours [TS]

00:33:06   I'm pretty sure because the full frame [TS]

00:33:08   has the even more stuff to do [TS]

00:33:09   electronically inside the images or even [TS]

00:33:11   larger process all you know all the [TS]

00:33:12   stuff my battery life is probably among [TS]

00:33:15   the worst in the in the camera industry [TS]

00:33:17   right now [TS]

00:33:18   do you have the same batteries maybe [TS]

00:33:20   that's what i was thinking you actually [TS]

00:33:21   have the same model of that like it's [TS]

00:33:23   like that whatever NP whatever whatever [TS]

00:33:24   50 yeah that the same battery i have so [TS]

00:33:27   that so that's why you're better lives [TS]

00:33:28   and works because your camera is is a [TS]

00:33:30   bigger sensor bigger screen like [TS]

00:33:32   everything about it is going to use more [TS]

00:33:33   battery than mine does and you have the [TS]

00:33:35   same actual physical battery and that's [TS]

00:33:37   no good [TS]

00:33:38   so better life is one of the things that [TS]

00:33:40   differentiates pro program again but [TS]

00:33:42   another one just like just handling [TS]

00:33:44   durability speed support your [TS]

00:33:47   professional doesn't always mean that it [TS]

00:33:50   has the best features or the fastest [TS]

00:33:53   whatever the fastest hardware or the [TS]

00:33:54   highest and hardware the highest specs [TS]

00:33:57   that is not what professional means that [TS]

00:33:59   often it you know results in that but [TS]

00:34:02   not always professional means that you [TS]

00:34:04   can use it to get your job done and it's [TS]

00:34:07   not going to fail on you [TS]

00:34:08   so that's why you know if you look at [TS]

00:34:10   you know topic that we are near and dear [TS]

00:34:12   to toasters it now [TS]

00:34:14   oh god all of the toasters that John has [TS]

00:34:17   tested and love so much well with [TS]

00:34:19   varying degrees of love so much if you [TS]

00:34:22   actually tried to use one of those [TS]

00:34:24   toasters in a bagel shop where they need [TS]

00:34:26   a toaster a lot like this is like a [TS]

00:34:28   commercial duty role if you used any of [TS]

00:34:31   those sisters even like the nice like [TS]

00:34:32   three hundred dollar ones they would [TS]

00:34:34   burn out and die in like two months at [TS]

00:34:37   most [TS]

00:34:37   because they're not made the they aren't [TS]

00:34:39   made for a heavy workload they are you [TS]

00:34:42   know they would overheat or they would [TS]

00:34:43   have problems like they're not made for [TS]

00:34:45   that and if you look at like a toaster [TS]

00:34:47   that's in like a bagel shop you have one [TS]

00:34:49   of the belt-drive toasters there's like [TS]

00:34:50   a thousand dollars and you look at your [TS]

00:34:53   like that's stupid [TS]

00:34:54   this toaster i can get at at macy's or [TS]

00:34:56   whatever is like 40 [TS]

00:34:58   bucks and has way more features in that [TS]

00:35:00   but that for your thing will die shortly [TS]

00:35:02   and you can't do like almost at the same [TS]

00:35:04   time with it and everything else and [TS]

00:35:05   that thousand-dollar really basic belt [TS]

00:35:07   drive one at the bagel shop is going to [TS]

00:35:09   work for a long time [TS]

00:35:10   progear is you know this is a metaphor [TS]

00:35:13   for most truly professional gear and if [TS]

00:35:16   you look at what what the mid-range and [TS]

00:35:18   high-end SLR like you know and i'm [TS]

00:35:21   really talking about like canon and [TS]

00:35:22   nikon here I don't think anybody's [TS]

00:35:23   really in this game anymore [TS]

00:35:25   canon nikon and I think kanan's quite a [TS]

00:35:27   bit of it [TS]

00:35:28   these are like machines that are [TS]

00:35:30   designed to do work and never fail on [TS]

00:35:32   you as much as I love my sony camera I [TS]

00:35:36   would be surprised if it still works [TS]

00:35:39   perfectly [TS]

00:35:40   eight years from now whereas the cannon [TS]

00:35:43   does [TS]

00:35:44   because if that's a program camera the [TS]

00:35:45   sony is a really high-end feature and [TS]

00:35:48   spec camera but it does not handle like [TS]

00:35:51   a professional camera doesn't feel like [TS]

00:35:52   a professional camera it doesn't feel [TS]

00:35:54   like it has the longevity and and the [TS]

00:35:56   ruggedness and I think generally [TS]

00:35:57   speaking I think people's experiences [TS]

00:35:59   online has backed up where you'll hear [TS]

00:36:02   really pro pro photographer who took a [TS]

00:36:04   sony a7 series camera like to Antarctica [TS]

00:36:06   and it failed or something like that [TS]

00:36:07   like and you can do that with other [TS]

00:36:09   campers because they're made for like [TS]

00:36:11   hard use extreme conditions they're [TS]

00:36:13   always ready they're like you know I [TS]

00:36:15   mean you know within reason of course [TS]

00:36:16   but like you know they're they're [TS]

00:36:18   generally just more rugged and they [TS]

00:36:20   they're also just you know they're there [TS]

00:36:22   faster they have more physical buttons [TS]

00:36:24   and yeah they're larger and clunkier and [TS]

00:36:25   heavier to get you all that stuff but [TS]

00:36:27   you know that's all there they have dual [TS]

00:36:29   card slots because it that way you can [TS]

00:36:31   you can have a backup in case one card [TS]

00:36:32   fails or whatever else there are so many [TS]

00:36:34   of Florence's there and if they break [TS]

00:36:36   there's generally better service [TS]

00:36:38   available 24 progear not always but [TS]

00:36:41   usually [TS]

00:36:42   and that's it that's another area where [TS]

00:36:43   sony has been criticized as having kind [TS]

00:36:44   of shoddy service for like four Pro kind [TS]

00:36:47   of use all these arrows cameras like [TS]

00:36:50   they really don't handle like pro [TS]

00:36:52   cameras they they don't have the the [TS]

00:36:54   strength and ruggedness and durability [TS]

00:36:56   of pro cameras and they don't have [TS]

00:36:58   really liked the design work load of pro [TS]

00:37:02   cameras and that one that won't change [TS]

00:37:03   so i think and i honestly I there when i [TS]

00:37:06   do handle an SLR these days there are [TS]

00:37:09   parts of it i do miss I miss how [TS]

00:37:10   incredibly respond [TS]

00:37:11   answer they are i miss Howe just how [TS]

00:37:13   fast can snap shots and had no problem [TS]

00:37:16   at all and see everything that i do miss [TS]

00:37:18   a tropical viewfinder sometimes there [TS]

00:37:20   are certain things that as amusing that [TS]

00:37:22   i missed my sony music on this thing's [TS]

00:37:23   like focus peaking which I don't think [TS]

00:37:25   you can do it all in an SLR and because [TS]

00:37:27   the way this is designed things you know [TS]

00:37:29   that there's all sorts of things that [TS]

00:37:31   you that you can use the luxuries with [TS]

00:37:32   with mirrorless cameras that you can but [TS]

00:37:34   you really can't do with all ours but if [TS]

00:37:37   i was going out like shooting an event [TS]

00:37:38   again like I used to do with Tiffany I [TS]

00:37:41   was when I was her second shooter i [TS]

00:37:43   would pick an SLR still and probably for [TS]

00:37:45   the foreseeable future because they were [TS]

00:37:47   for actual pro use where every shot [TS]

00:37:50   matters [TS]

00:37:50   you can't have any delays you can have [TS]

00:37:52   anything fail you can't worry about the [TS]

00:37:53   battery I mean when we were shooting [TS]

00:37:55   with those with the 5 d's you know [TS]

00:37:57   Tiffany shot a bunch of weddings [TS]

00:37:58   together cuz shes wedding photographer [TS]

00:37:59   and we were together and I can't I think [TS]

00:38:02   maybe I worry about the battery level [TS]

00:38:04   once in all that time you used we felt [TS]

00:38:08   the car before before the batteries run [TS]

00:38:09   out and you just never had to think [TS]

00:38:11   about the batteries it was so big with [TS]

00:38:12   the stony and thinking about the battery [TS]

00:38:13   almost every time like almost everyday [TS]

00:38:16   issues with the sony I have to watch the [TS]

00:38:17   battery level and then it goes down like [TS]

00:38:18   twenty percent i got to be at my pocket [TS]

00:38:20   you know it's it's not a professional [TS]

00:38:23   piece of equipment it produces very [TS]

00:38:24   incredible photos but it is not [TS]

00:38:27   programmed SL ours not all the mark but [TS]

00:38:29   many SLR Tsar pro-quality year and that [TS]

00:38:32   difference I think will always be there [TS]

00:38:33   just because of the the market realities [TS]

00:38:34   and physical reality is that these two [TS]

00:38:36   markets there you go with the always [TS]

00:38:38   again you know I made and I'm going to [TS]

00:38:39   jump on that gonna affect the wind is [TS]

00:38:42   blowing like it reminds me kind of the [TS]

00:38:46   not quite the same as now she's not [TS]

00:38:48   perfect but it's a think it's a similar [TS]

00:38:50   situation that can put you in the right [TS]

00:38:51   mindset to understand how this is gonna [TS]

00:38:53   go when professionals all use some [TS]

00:38:55   cameras please digital cameras were crap [TS]

00:38:57   we all remember that time our old house [TS]

00:38:59   to remember that we're of course you [TS]

00:39:00   know [TS]

00:39:00   digital cameras are fine they're [TS]

00:39:02   interesting toy but it's ridiculous you [TS]

00:39:04   will never compare to 35 millimeter film [TS]

00:39:06   film professionals all the special [TS]

00:39:08   cameras canon and nikon they're all DSLR [TS]

00:39:10   not be also they will slrs without the d [TS]

00:39:12   in the front of them because they you [TS]

00:39:13   know their professional camera for all [TS]

00:39:15   the reasons you stated and they were in [TS]

00:39:16   digital because everybody knows that [TS]

00:39:18   digital may have some weird advantages [TS]

00:39:19   but you can't take these pictures within [TS]

00:39:22   that slowly really really slowly changed [TS]

00:39:25   and there was a time when no [TS]

00:39:27   professional photographer use digital [TS]

00:39:28   and now almost all of them do unless [TS]

00:39:30   they're real artsy fartsy it just so [TS]

00:39:32   happens they stayed in the same form [TS]

00:39:33   factor the DSLR at that point and [TS]

00:39:36   there's a lot of uh you know not baggage [TS]

00:39:39   about history there it's instinct you [TS]

00:39:41   know even if it was universally better [TS]

00:39:43   it would take a long time as people have [TS]

00:39:44   tons of lenses and they're used to the [TS]

00:39:45   cameras they like as established people [TS]

00:39:47   for you know know how to fix them and [TS]

00:39:48   their kind of familiar with the machines [TS]

00:39:51   in the way they work but there are still [TS]

00:39:54   advantages to Marilyn terms of like [TS]

00:39:55   continuous autofocus of a moving target [TS]

00:39:59   that you could you never do manual [TS]

00:40:01   focusing in that DSLR is not fast enough [TS]

00:40:03   to catch for very very fast motion for [TS]

00:40:05   things like sports photography and of [TS]

00:40:08   course all the size advantages and other [TS]

00:40:09   things i'm not saying it's inevitable [TS]

00:40:11   but I feel like the main thing keeping [TS]

00:40:14   dslrs dominant now is because Manuel [TS]

00:40:17   like the inertia that manufacturers are [TS]

00:40:19   making use no reason you couldn't make a [TS]

00:40:21   professional mirrorless camera just [TS]

00:40:22   happens no one is doing that because the [TS]

00:40:24   market is in dslrs and they're really [TS]

00:40:26   good and the adventures haven't shipped [TS]

00:40:28   overnight but I feel like this is a slow [TS]

00:40:30   migration that gradually over time like [TS]

00:40:32   Sony's kind of doing it first you have [TS]

00:40:34   the mirrorless cameras like oh this is a [TS]

00:40:35   great way for consumers to get a camera [TS]

00:40:37   that has a little bit bigger sensor but [TS]

00:40:39   you know that we know consumers don't [TS]

00:40:41   want to buy an SLR just a really big so [TS]

00:40:42   this is a great advantage for them and [TS]

00:40:44   sunny was like you know we we can make [TS]

00:40:46   even better camera like that maybe we [TS]

00:40:47   can make a full-frame one and maybe we [TS]

00:40:48   can make good enough that professionals [TS]

00:40:50   might notice and all the things Marco [TS]

00:40:52   said about them not being suitable for [TS]

00:40:54   the job are still true but did you know [TS]

00:40:56   they're creeping up on that no one [TS]

00:40:58   knowing it before the a7 and your camera [TS]

00:41:01   it was that wasn't a thing that even [TS]

00:41:03   existed and now you know something's [TS]

00:41:05   probably the wrong company to do it like [TS]

00:41:06   it all it's gonna take is for you know [TS]

00:41:07   five years from now whatever for Nikon [TS]

00:41:09   and Canon to make their first [TS]

00:41:10   professional mirrorless camera and [TS]

00:41:12   that's just like then you've passed a [TS]

00:41:14   tipping point is just a matter of time [TS]

00:41:15   then before they also watch over because [TS]

00:41:17   i think the advantages are important [TS]

00:41:19   enough that eventually people will make [TS]

00:41:20   professional mirrorless cameras even if [TS]

00:41:22   they're not doing that today [TS]

00:41:23   that's a fair point i mean i-i guess i [TS]

00:41:25   should clarify that you know it i don't [TS]

00:41:28   i don't believe it's impossible to make [TS]

00:41:29   a pro grade / handling mirrorless camera [TS]

00:41:32   there's nothing about the [TS]

00:41:33   airless component layout that prevents [TS]

00:41:36   programmers from being made that i know [TS]

00:41:38   of days aren't made and I and even even [TS]

00:41:41   the very expensive ones like like the [TS]

00:41:42   seminar to our professional in quality [TS]

00:41:45   but not professional and handling and [TS]

00:41:47   responsiveness and work and ruggedness [TS]

00:41:48   and everything so that being said [TS]

00:41:50   sony is rumored to be working on [TS]

00:41:52   something that the recycling a9 that is [TS]

00:41:57   allegedly a pro like mirrorless with the [TS]

00:42:01   a7 series sensors so that could be [TS]

00:42:04   really interesting if that's real and if [TS]

00:42:05   it's if it actually is pro handling and [TS]

00:42:09   all this being said if i were to look at [TS]

00:42:11   an SLR again today I would probably end [TS]

00:42:14   up looking at nikon honestly not canon [TS]

00:42:16   because canon has just not been keeping [TS]

00:42:20   up at all with Sony in dynamic range and [TS]

00:42:23   high iso noise performance and nikon use [TS]

00:42:27   Sony sensors and so like the nikon d750 [TS]

00:42:30   is an incredible camera it's not even [TS]

00:42:33   that new anymore it's incredible camera [TS]

00:42:36   that has a beautiful sony sensor that's [TS]

00:42:38   very similar to the a7r one sensor i [TS]

00:42:42   believe and yes I would almost certainly [TS]

00:42:45   go a nikon if i was going to sell art [TS]

00:44:17   thing and I was not aware of this but [TS]

00:44:21   apparently not only are they a thing but [TS]

00:44:24   you have to go through like really [TS]

00:44:26   terrible awful other things to be able [TS]

00:44:29   to do that thing [TS]

00:44:31   oh you're talking about boot camp yeah [TS]

00:44:33   Oh God [TS]

00:44:34   so things are not going well I guess I [TS]

00:44:36   should drive your Tesla over here and [TS]

00:44:38   pick me up I'll services but Sarah [TS]

00:44:40   success on something you just go up to [TS]

00:44:43   the job so so can we just give justice [TS]

00:44:45   just a moment of background so you're [TS]

00:44:47   trying or well maybe not you actually I [TS]

00:44:49   guess it's tiff is trying to play no [TS]

00:44:51   man's sky is that I'm not trying to [TS]

00:44:53   troll I'm really knows you're feeling [TS]

00:44:54   inside [TS]

00:44:55   oh my god is that an old man crazy III [TS]

00:44:58   when it comes to this I ambit the gnomon [TS]

00:45:00   sky the pokey man's and so anyway so [TS]

00:45:05   it's so TIFF wanted to play inside and [TS]

00:45:07   that is not available on OS 10 [TS]

00:45:09   soon-to-be Mac Mac us RM a cost and it [TS]

00:45:14   is available on the xbox but not the [TS]

00:45:16   playstation 4 is that fair [TS]

00:45:18   it's coming out of the playstation 4 [TS]

00:45:19   soonish yeah that's right now maybe it [TS]

00:45:22   will maybe we'll be out by the time [TS]

00:45:23   markets bootcamp it way and and then [TS]

00:45:27   because it's not available on on OS 10 [TS]

00:45:29   and you guys only have a playstation 4 u [TS]

00:45:33   collective you thought okay we will [TS]

00:45:35   install windows and we will play it [TS]

00:45:37   there is that a reasonable summary but [TS]

00:45:40   yeah basically left off all the hemming [TS]

00:45:42   and hawing we have the whole show for my [TS]

00:45:44   rocket and xbox one was around playing [TS]

00:45:47   around anyway they but the end of that [TS]

00:45:49   shows like okay and [TS]

00:45:50   under the boot camp thing and so now [TS]

00:45:52   we're picking up at that point where the [TS]

00:45:54   decision has been made to the boot camp [TS]

00:45:56   and steam and windows is the way to do [TS]

00:45:58   it and then it was complaining about it [TS]

00:46:00   yelling at me somehow somehow this is my [TS]

00:46:02   fault on Twitter boot camp isn't working [TS]

00:46:05   out so I i assume is all Marcus faults [TS]

00:46:08   we can tell us what's going on there are [TS]

00:46:10   cute [TS]

00:46:11   hi to why is it houses my fault let me [TS]

00:46:15   just explain once again once again tip i [TS]

00:46:17   decided to do bootcamp for this game the [TS]

00:46:20   day I decided to do it i spent some time [TS]

00:46:22   walking around and seeing how much [TS]

00:46:24   windows 10 cost before eventually [TS]

00:46:25   decided to go with the copy windows [TS]

00:46:26   seven that I had I wiped my bootcamp [TS]

00:46:29   partition made a new one installed [TS]

00:46:31   windows seven install steam and played [TS]

00:46:34   all of inside everything i just [TS]

00:46:35   described took place in one day that's [TS]

00:46:37   all I'm saying [TS]

00:46:39   oh haha wait can you guys hold on a [TS]

00:46:42   second i do that for me real quick [TS]

00:46:46   I just want to play a three-hour game i [TS]

00:46:49   just want to buy it it's a three-hour [TS]

00:46:51   game it's this is the gilligan's island [TS]

00:46:54   of games here you go on a three-hour [TS]

00:46:57   tour and you end up there for your whole [TS]

00:46:59   freakin life because you're dealing with [TS]

00:47:01   Windows nightmares [TS]

00:47:04   what's going wrong here how house is not [TS]

00:47:06   happening this has been like days week [TS]

00:47:08   it's been a long time it's been been a [TS]

00:47:10   long time not even counting the whole [TS]

00:47:11   time about waffling what you should do [TS]

00:47:13   and then even after the decision has [TS]

00:47:14   been made that we're going to bootcamp [TS]

00:47:15   and still I i assume you have not played [TS]

00:47:18   this game [TS]

00:47:18   oh because this whole bootcamping was [TS]

00:47:20   pitched to us as Oh it'll be no problem [TS]

00:47:23   it's just boot camp you just put it on [TS]

00:47:24   the distal you have your little [TS]

00:47:25   partition and you just plug it in at [TS]

00:47:27   least three easy you just do it so easy [TS]

00:47:29   i did this like I just not speculation [TS]

00:47:31   like it should be easy I i actually did [TS]

00:47:33   it [TS]

00:47:34   if you actually wrote out the steps it [TS]

00:47:36   would take to how it's done [TS]

00:47:38   only one person with the initial Marco [TS]

00:47:41   idea of let's just throw some money at [TS]

00:47:44   the problem by an xbox because we should [TS]

00:47:46   have done that because in this variation [TS]

00:47:47   I i'm almost about to break [TS]

00:47:50   I i I'm gonna kick all the computers in [TS]

00:47:52   like in their faces like I'm so angry [TS]

00:47:56   wow we do alright so here's here's what [TS]

00:48:00   has happened so the other night so you [TS]

00:48:02   know we have a child [TS]

00:48:04   he is young we haven't had a ton of time [TS]

00:48:06   to devote to this problem so you know a [TS]

00:48:08   few weeks ago whenever whenever we talk [TS]

00:48:10   about our first I had created this this [TS]

00:48:13   bootcamp completed this bootcamp [TS]

00:48:14   installation of Windows 10 using a real [TS]

00:48:18   windows 10 product key thanks to a [TS]

00:48:19   listener who who graciously sent me one [TS]

00:48:21   actually well I hadn't entered it yet [TS]

00:48:23   but we'll get to that was tonight's [TS]

00:48:25   problem thanks thanks windows for your [TS]

00:48:28   tattoo of a warning signs all over [TS]

00:48:30   everything you do if you don't ha whoo [TS]

00:48:33   thank you going right so anyway anyway [TS]

00:48:37   so i installed Windows 10 choosing the [TS]

00:48:40   like remind me later option on the [TS]

00:48:41   product key screen because why wouldn't [TS]

00:48:43   you like that and then and then I saw [TS]

00:48:47   your light on the this external samsung [TS]

00:48:49   SSD so that we could plug it into any [TS]

00:48:51   computer we wanted to because sometimes [TS]

00:48:53   I might want to play a game [TS]

00:48:55   sometimes I might be my laptop sometime [TS]

00:48:56   tips desktop so we I set it all up on my [TS]

00:49:01   laptop and figuring that I could just [TS]

00:49:03   plug it into tips imac to play the game [TS]

00:49:05   when she was ready because her imac was [TS]

00:49:07   in use [TS]

00:49:08   she was working and using it and I [TS]

00:49:10   didn't want to disturb during setup so i [TS]

00:49:11   set the whole thing up as a bootable [TS]

00:49:13   bootcamp drive on this SSD from my [TS]

00:49:16   laptop and my macbook pro and I got the [TS]

00:49:18   message of ohdon't worry whenever you're [TS]

00:49:20   ready to play this game i got it all [TS]

00:49:22   setup we just need to plug in I could [TS]

00:49:24   bring it here i could bring it there i [TS]

00:49:25   could put done this like to put it on [TS]

00:49:27   that you're gonna be ready to go you [TS]

00:49:28   just let me know [TS]

00:49:30   that's exactly how I sounded am I feel [TS]

00:49:32   like you're still yelling at me about [TS]

00:49:33   that you realize this is your husband [TS]

00:49:35   I'm not me I i live over here in this [TS]

00:49:37   house [TS]

00:49:37   uh yeah I know where that house is John [TS]

00:49:40   i know but i didn't know as i think--not [TS]

00:49:42   blamed his whatsoever you should be [TS]

00:49:44   angry at Marco previous destinations in [TS]

00:49:47   my gps and I can find you [TS]

00:49:48   that's it that's all it takes is bring [TS]

00:49:51   the computer with you and how you said [TS]

00:49:53   helping just driving over to Tim now [TS]

00:49:55   wait whose house John's house yet drive [TS]

00:49:57   over to john's yeah yeah so anyway so I [TS]

00:50:02   i plug the plug the drive into this [TS]

00:50:04   computer so we know she has like this [TS]

00:50:05   one night set out which is a couple days [TS]

00:50:07   ago his one-night stay at this this is [TS]

00:50:09   the day that she's able to play this [TS]

00:50:11   game finally so put your kid to bed i [TS]

00:50:14   start shutting down your computer and [TS]

00:50:15   rebooting the bootcamp drive [TS]

00:50:17   and of course since the bootcamp [TS]

00:50:20   installation was something like two [TS]

00:50:21   weeks old [TS]

00:50:22   it had a software update the software [TS]

00:50:25   updates ok update updates [TS]

00:50:27   yeah a just a software update i think we [TS]

00:50:30   need to fix that [TS]

00:50:31   yeah had multiple software updates [TS]

00:50:33   didn't you use windows for like years [TS]

00:50:34   and years before use the mac like these [TS]

00:50:36   are the rookie mistakes that I don't [TS]

00:50:38   even know what the only reason this room [TS]

00:50:40   and even i know the day you decide to [TS]

00:50:42   play your windows game is not the day to [TS]

00:50:44   find out you have windows updates like [TS]

00:50:45   there's always a prep day where you [TS]

00:50:47   install the windows updates and make [TS]

00:50:49   sure everything is set to go every day [TS]

00:50:50   you find out everyday is a Windows [TS]

00:50:52   Update day every day but doesn't like it [TS]

00:50:54   you can you can defer them anyway you [TS]

00:50:56   have left the prep day out of that three [TS]

00:50:58   hour total of this took you then know [TS]

00:51:00   that that day that I did it I did all [TS]

00:51:02   the updates because i was a full day but [TS]

00:51:03   yeah I did I did them the hemming and [TS]

00:51:06   hawing about doing it I did the research [TS]

00:51:07   i did the creation of the partition and [TS]

00:51:09   the installation i did the endless [TS]

00:51:11   windows updates and then after that are [TS]

00:51:13   played the game because it's three hours [TS]

00:51:14   long [TS]

00:51:15   alright so anyway so you know we we boot [TS]

00:51:19   up we go to the software updates every [TS]

00:51:21   few times that boots [TS]

00:51:24   it gives the the non-system disk error [TS]

00:51:26   on boot for some reason with that old [TS]

00:51:28   with da serra put instagram like yeah so [TS]

00:51:32   windows is windows it's a total pile of [TS]

00:51:35   garbage as it always has been [TS]

00:51:36   because i haven't used windows since XP [TS]

00:51:40   of course took me a long time to find [TS]

00:51:43   certain settings and handling things [TS]

00:51:44   like how do i change the resolution [TS]

00:51:46   things like that anyway so that when i [TS]

00:51:51   first installed i thought you know just [TS]

00:51:53   in case because I because it creates [TS]

00:51:56   installation on a macbook pro but I'm [TS]

00:51:58   running it now in a5k imac just in case [TS]

00:52:01   let me update that could be one when we [TS]

00:52:03   first launched the game on the fact that [TS]

00:52:05   make the frame rate was terrible so I [TS]

00:52:06   was like all right maybe I need to [TS]

00:52:07   update video driver because digs it [TS]

00:52:09   didn't install the one for the imac [TS]

00:52:11   maybe only install the one for the [TS]

00:52:13   macbook pro even though it's like one [TS]

00:52:15   package of support files for all [TS]

00:52:17   hardware supposedly ok [TS]

00:52:19   reinstall the tools you know get try to [TS]

00:52:21   fix the stupid framerate issue [TS]

00:52:22   finally we get it we get it going and we [TS]

00:52:25   get the game going and i eventually [TS]

00:52:26   figure out the resolution have to reboot [TS]

00:52:28   they're all stupid update so we're [TS]

00:52:30   already [TS]

00:52:30   two hours in now he has a call this [TS]

00:52:32   stupid updating and rebooting and we [TS]

00:52:34   only have so much time right because we [TS]

00:52:36   have a child who goes to sleep and once [TS]

00:52:37   he goes to sleep we only have so much [TS]

00:52:39   time to play the game before we're [TS]

00:52:40   exhausted and we can't stay up anymore [TS]

00:52:43   so we had was a limited window [TS]

00:52:46   whoo oh so yeah so if this is terrible [TS]

00:52:52   like rebooting cycle and drivers and all [TS]

00:52:54   this BS eventually we get the game [TS]

00:52:57   finally to run and then it's like wait [TS]

00:52:59   there's no mass support we gotta plug in [TS]

00:53:01   a controller controller options and how [TS]

00:53:03   we do that and we look to try to use the [TS]

00:53:05   keyboard just yeah well we eventually [TS]

00:53:07   came that first first we don't have any [TS]

00:53:09   gamepads 4pcs was like but we have a ps3 [TS]

00:53:12   controller of the ps4 controller we have [TS]

00:53:15   an xbox 360 controller everything you [TS]

00:53:17   just plug these in they'll just start [TS]

00:53:18   working so we tried a few of those of [TS]

00:53:20   course none of them actually worked even [TS]

00:53:22   the xbox xbox 360 georgian closest that [TS]

00:53:26   we actually showed up in whatever than [TS]

00:53:28   the current name is for device manager [TS]

00:53:30   however it didn't the game didn't [TS]

00:53:32   recognize it for whatever reason like [TS]

00:53:33   the just couldn't find things to it so [TS]

00:53:35   oh well then oh nevermind so eventually [TS]

00:53:37   i refine keyboard with you picked the [TS]

00:53:39   keyboard then it finally starts playing [TS]

00:53:42   a game okay finally it's like you know [TS]

00:53:44   what is probably ten o'clock just [TS]

00:53:46   fucking think we can finally start [TS]

00:53:47   playing this game so I leave the room [TS]

00:53:49   because i know i didn't want to disturb [TS]

00:53:51   her with light from my computer because [TS]

00:53:52   these people so freaking reflective [TS]

00:53:54   she's playing a game a nice dark office [TS]

00:53:56   I leave the office called me back in [TS]

00:53:58   like four minutes later the game broke [TS]

00:54:01   what I come in and it just like it had [TS]

00:54:05   quit to the static like it had minimize [TS]

00:54:08   itself to the status bar as if you'd [TS]

00:54:09   what used to happen if it still happens [TS]

00:54:11   windows gaming but we used to happen if [TS]

00:54:13   you actually hit the Windows key + or [TS]

00:54:15   invoked alt-tab in any other way so I so [TS]

00:54:17   I got accused of did you did you put [TS]

00:54:19   your finger on the button and I'm like [TS]

00:54:20   no I cannot linger on a button i would [TS]

00:54:22   also like Anton my heart smart i just [TS]

00:54:25   want to rule that out because you know [TS]

00:54:27   it's it's right on the board next all [TS]

00:54:29   the buttons anyway then this happened [TS]

00:54:31   have a great but it happens to the best [TS]

00:54:33   of us every pc gamer actually hit the [TS]

00:54:35   Windows key sometimes it always happens [TS]

00:54:36   anyway so that's of course I see the [TS]

00:54:40   game like minimize the taskbar and of [TS]

00:54:42   course once the game [TS]

00:54:44   to minimize the taskbar you can't get it [TS]

00:54:46   to resume like that that's it it's over [TS]

00:54:47   you have to like force quit you can [TS]

00:54:49   still hear it you can still move the [TS]

00:54:50   character around you can't like there's [TS]

00:54:51   no way you can get a back full screen [TS]

00:54:53   again because windows game apparently [TS]

00:54:55   has an advanced is a problem in 1999 and [TS]

00:54:58   the cursor disappears the cursor totally [TS]

00:55:00   disappears you can even do anything [TS]

00:55:01   because the game captures the mouse [TS]

00:55:03   cursor still is it seemed like alt-tab [TS]

00:55:06   to nothing else to get the cursor bag [TS]

00:55:08   it's it's like I I'm shocked that [TS]

00:55:11   Windows has not fix these problems in [TS]

00:55:12   the like 16 years since i first started [TS]

00:55:16   seeing like how really how they not fix [TS]

00:55:18   this [TS]

00:55:18   anyway they haven't because windows is [TS]

00:55:20   terrible [TS]

00:55:21   so anyway we eventually like you know I [TS]

00:55:24   i get back in the game where we tried [TS]

00:55:26   rebooting we tried installing other [TS]

00:55:27   videos are overlooking the internet for [TS]

00:55:28   solutions of course the internet is full [TS]

00:55:29   of garbage so expensive i leave United [TS]

00:55:32   tries again and we start getting this [TS]

00:55:34   balloon that comes up that the video [TS]

00:55:37   driver has stopped responding but it has [TS]

00:55:40   recovered so first of all who the hell [TS]

00:55:43   writes these messages like that Wyatt [TS]

00:55:46   why does a user needs to know like what [TS]

00:55:48   what is a regular person I mean we are [TS]

00:55:51   experts sort of non-windows our gaming [TS]

00:55:53   but like we're computer experts and I [TS]

00:55:55   know what all those words mean and i [TS]

00:55:58   still can't tell you what the hell is [TS]

00:55:59   supposed to do about that [TS]

00:56:00   maybe it's the ram backmarker don't even [TS]

00:56:03   understand don't ya don't even [TS]

00:56:07   understand market the you think those [TS]

00:56:08   are messages are bad imagine just a hex [TS]

00:56:10   code that's all you get is a hex code [TS]

00:56:12   and their error an error has occured [TS]

00:56:14   hectic and then just go scouring the [TS]

00:56:17   internet hoping that somebody has hit [TS]

00:56:19   this before and has a fix [TS]

00:56:21   do you remember what I told the story in [TS]

00:56:22   the pockets because i remember to [TS]

00:56:23   remember i had to do to get my video you [TS]

00:56:25   know basically to get my video drivers [TS]

00:56:27   to remember that no because I had took a [TS]

00:56:29   few runs out where is all the bootcamp [TS]

00:56:31   drivers but i reinstall windows then [TS]

00:56:33   install the bootcamp drivers but every [TS]

00:56:35   time I saw the bootcamp drivers had made [TS]

00:56:36   my system unbootable like you would boot [TS]

00:56:37   back up and recognize you want to try to [TS]

00:56:40   repair and would try to repair and it [TS]

00:56:42   would never succeed and be like oh well [TS]

00:56:44   alright so what I had to do was install [TS]

00:56:46   the drivers then do apples little boot [TS]

00:56:48   camp driver installation but stop it as [TS]

00:56:51   soon as sound works because it makes a [TS]

00:56:53   sound when installed the driver and i [TS]

00:56:54   had to forcibly kill the driver in [TS]

00:56:56   isolation and then install like that [TS]

00:56:58   because i had three things I had that [TS]

00:57:00   windows itself i had the ati drivers for [TS]

00:57:04   the radeon drivers like third-party [TS]

00:57:06   drivers from the radeon site for [TS]

00:57:08   bootcamp specifically AMD says these are [TS]

00:57:10   the ones used for bootcamp for this [TS]

00:57:12   video card right and then I had the [TS]

00:57:13   Apple drivers and the combination of [TS]

00:57:15   three of them as I had to do them in a [TS]

00:57:16   certain order and I had to kill the [TS]

00:57:17   apple one as soon as sound worked and [TS]

00:57:20   that is a setup that work for a bit but [TS]

00:57:21   that was like an hour's worth of seng [TS]

00:57:23   there so it's never easy and I think [TS]

00:57:24   it's easy but I figured it was because [TS]

00:57:26   my computer is ancient and like it would [TS]

00:57:28   be easier on our computer I feel like [TS]

00:57:30   when people go through all of these [TS]

00:57:31   steps to to do something simple and they [TS]

00:57:34   they recount all the steps in the [TS]

00:57:35   craziness and it took me a day and I did [TS]

00:57:37   this and then I did this and then I got [TS]

00:57:39   into work and now it works it's fine i [TS]

00:57:41   feel like it's like a metal layer i got [TS]

00:57:44   a badge of honor right that everyone's [TS]

00:57:46   wearing now that almost nothing but look [TS]

00:57:48   at me things that I did to get my think [TS]

00:57:50   my mind my simple task to do to play a [TS]

00:57:53   game just a game the game it is well let [TS]

00:57:56   me remind everyone said though let me [TS]

00:57:59   remind everyone i was making a fairly [TS]

00:58:00   lucrative living in windows and did [TS]

00:58:02   everything in my power to leave that [TS]

00:58:04   behind [TS]

00:58:05   maybe maybe that was for a reason may be [TS]

00:58:08   that reason might be windows this just [TS]

00:58:10   reminds you of why why we all have max [TS]

00:58:12   like this is this is the reason why is [TS]

00:58:14   it that the trick is that if if this is [TS]

00:58:17   proposes a solution is easy way to play [TS]

00:58:19   a game by somebody [TS]

00:58:21   no but different her for you know [TS]

00:58:23   personally I had more faith and [TS]

00:58:25   marketability to the second of all local [TS]

00:58:27   the most important thing is Marco can [TS]

00:58:30   have these struggles because the [TS]

00:58:32   timeline is already incredibly stretched [TS]

00:58:33   out because of all his did you know [TS]

00:58:35   having whoring and trying to say I was [TS]

00:58:36   gonna do you don't presented as ready to [TS]

00:58:39   play unless you're sure it's ready to [TS]

00:58:41   play like you don't like it the making [TS]

00:58:44   the promise like a lot but I don't drive [TS]

00:58:45   everything's all set like you should [TS]

00:58:46   have known like tip should not you [TS]

00:58:48   should even talk to tiff about this [TS]

00:58:49   until you you've loaded it played for 15 [TS]

00:58:52   minutes [TS]

00:58:53   reset to the beginning of the game and [TS]

00:58:54   say okay now it's ready for you like [TS]

00:58:56   that's when it's actually ready you [TS]

00:58:57   don't you don't involve her unless she [TS]

00:58:59   wants to do it herself fine she can do [TS]

00:59:01   all this crap but if you're going to [TS]

00:59:02   deal with the crap don't call her in to [TS]

00:59:04   look at it until it's really done that's [TS]

00:59:05   the secret to all the geeky like stuff [TS]

00:59:08   you're you know doing for your family [TS]

00:59:10   you don't want to show them what it [TS]

00:59:11   actually takes to get this done you [TS]

00:59:12   don't call them into the room until the [TS]

00:59:14   thing is already loaded in itunes or [TS]

00:59:15   netflix until it's already queuing up [TS]

00:59:17   until you've seen the paramount logo [TS]

00:59:18   appear like you know all the network [TS]

00:59:20   characters are working you know you're [TS]

00:59:22   signed in you know everything had [TS]

00:59:23   software update the popcorn is popping [TS]

00:59:25   they come in they sit down you hit the [TS]

00:59:26   play button that was already about to [TS]

00:59:28   play like that's what you gotta do the [TS]

00:59:30   everyone who's in a relationship at any [TS]

00:59:33   kind would totally pat me on the back [TS]

00:59:36   because i didn't say i told you so at [TS]

00:59:38   that moment when he brought up it was in [TS]

00:59:42   your eyes it [TS]

00:59:43   oh yeah well I can't keep it out of my I [TS]

00:59:45   mean I gotta show you a little bit i [TS]

00:59:47   mean you're giving me like the look so [TS]

00:59:48   hard but I didn't say it [TS]

00:59:50   yes yelled at me on Twitter instead this [TS]

00:59:52   is transference just taken out of me [TS]

00:59:54   yeah so anyway so eventually it just [TS]

00:59:59   keep [TS]

00:59:59   keep [TS]

01:00:00   this stupid like display driver stopped [TS]

01:00:02   responding but we figured it out but yet [TS]

01:00:03   this is no problem to alert you with via [TS]

01:00:05   a balloon that kills your game this [TS]

01:00:07   problem kept happening and I tried you [TS]

01:00:09   know this is like is like an ati driver [TS]

01:00:11   control panel so I kept open it up and I [TS]

01:00:13   turning down settings and tried lowering [TS]

01:00:15   the resolution which is not easy anymore [TS]

01:00:17   but eventually dug down and finalists [TS]

01:00:20   crap in their new interface that's even [TS]

01:00:22   worse than the old one and eventually [TS]

01:00:25   figured out like I let me turn all the [TS]

01:00:26   settings turn all the anti-aliasing [TS]

01:00:27   Charlie turned down everything that I [TS]

01:00:29   know to be complex and it still [TS]

01:00:31   company's problems my god it's not like [TS]

01:00:33   an issue of it overloading so I I [TS]

01:00:35   thought maybe just maybe this is because [TS]

01:00:39   i had created the installation on my [TS]

01:00:40   laptop and I was running it on a [TS]

01:00:42   five-day imac and so I thought let's [TS]

01:00:44   just try playing the game on the laptop [TS]

01:00:47   so we abandon ship from the back [TS]

01:00:49   yeah so to move to the chair was invited [TS]

01:00:52   for survivors you know got in the boat [TS]

01:00:54   and we left the imac and we moved onto [TS]

01:00:57   the chair with a laptop [TS]

01:00:59   yeah so finally went over finally play [TS]

01:01:03   the game on laptop and it was suppose [TS]

01:01:07   the first problem you had There was that [TS]

01:01:09   it was that the one now I just need you [TS]

01:01:11   to get my pen right and and we've rented [TS]

01:01:14   a power almost in this that was another [TS]

01:01:15   balloon like that yesterday morning [TS]

01:01:17   right [TS]

01:01:18   yeah yeah the batteries ran out we have [TS]

01:01:20   to plug in because it's a laptop yet [TS]

01:01:21   turns out when you play games laptop [TS]

01:01:23   batteries don't last very long [TS]

01:01:24   what a surprise so it's ok so i go back [TS]

01:01:28   to play the game tonight since I stayed [TS]

01:01:30   up so late last night trying to finish [TS]

01:01:31   the game in time but I get just got so [TS]

01:01:33   late i was i was very very tired in the [TS]

01:01:36   ultimate insult [TS]

01:01:36   I went to bed before she did and then [TS]

01:01:39   alexa turns off all the lights on me [TS]

01:01:41   which was the worst but i had to turn it [TS]

01:01:43   back on [TS]

01:01:44   I felt so cool good for mood lighting [TS]

01:01:46   all right it's good atmosphere for that [TS]

01:01:48   well I had it mostly dark I just didn't [TS]

01:01:50   want the whole house to be dark like the [TS]

01:01:51   other rooms lights went off and I was [TS]

01:01:53   like plunged into the you know pit of [TS]

01:01:56   darkness so I had to have her turn it [TS]

01:01:57   back on [TS]

01:01:58   anyway so tonight he's podcasting i have [TS]

01:02:01   my game on a laptop it's portable i can [TS]

01:02:04   leave the office i can go play wherever [TS]

01:02:05   I want a nice sit-down and i'm getting [TS]

01:02:07   ready to play and a message is tattooed [TS]

01:02:11   in the corner of this dark [TS]

01:02:13   game it says activate windows go to [TS]

01:02:17   settings activate Thank You Margo never [TS]

01:02:20   activated it's right where you left that [TS]

01:02:22   part of the story is like all click the [TS]

01:02:24   see a register later like yeah you [TS]

01:02:25   caught that little little thing that you [TS]

01:02:27   have to there so it's tattooed on the [TS]

01:02:29   bottom of the game [TS]

01:02:30   everything is dark and you know if [TS]

01:02:32   anyone has played inside you kind of see [TS]

01:02:34   the video is a lot of silhouettes it is [TS]

01:02:36   it's very distracting when you have big [TS]

01:02:39   white letters right at the bottom of the [TS]

01:02:41   screen shouting at you about activating [TS]

01:02:43   your windows which whatever the hell [TS]

01:02:47   that means whatever the hell that means [TS]

01:02:49   and so I go to the settings so it could [TS]

01:02:51   tell me and it says there's a button [TS]

01:02:53   that says do you want to know what the [TS]

01:02:54   hell this means and so I click the [TS]

01:02:55   button and it tells me that I need some [TS]

01:02:58   sort of key and I need to have this [TS]

01:03:00   program go in and change settings in my [TS]

01:03:03   computer in order to get this key and [TS]

01:03:05   what does that just makes me panic so [TS]

01:03:07   I'm here texting Marco while he's [TS]

01:03:09   podcasting asking him for a kid he's [TS]

01:03:12   like Kenya wait I'm like no there's a [TS]

01:03:13   huge ugly tattoo all over my game and [TS]

01:03:16   then in that process the gamestops booty [TS]

01:03:18   it won't boot anymore it just won't it [TS]

01:03:20   just stops it's just spinning into the [TS]

01:03:23   abyss steam doesn't work nothing's [TS]

01:03:25   working [TS]

01:03:26   finally he sends me the message of with [TS]

01:03:29   the key in it so thank you whoever gave [TS]

01:03:31   us that key your awesome i put it in i [TS]

01:03:35   missed type it I put it in again and it [TS]

01:03:39   works and then i have to shut down all [TS]

01:03:41   the programs that i had open and open [TS]

01:03:42   them again because it can't figure out [TS]

01:03:45   what i just did and so now the game is [TS]

01:03:48   sitting on the laptop and it is running [TS]

01:03:50   and it looks great and Marco calls me in [TS]

01:03:53   here so that's where we are [TS]

01:03:56   I'm so glad that journey is only [TS]

01:03:59   available in the console because he [TS]

01:04:00   actually destroying the experience of in [TS]

01:04:02   Cyprus is moody you know atmospheric [TS]

01:04:05   game you really want to get into a quiet [TS]

01:04:06   house but not to worry about instead [TS]

01:04:08   you're being accosted by terrible little [TS]

01:04:11   balloon set asking you to update windows [TS]

01:04:13   tell me about your driver i really just [TS]

01:04:16   ate up all night last night and finished [TS]

01:04:17   it i think i have only about like 40 [TS]

01:04:19   minutes left [TS]

01:04:20   God yeah it's so in conclusion [TS]

01:04:25   bootcamp sucks John you were wrong and [TS]

01:04:29   windows sucks and you suck installing [TS]

01:04:31   boot camp I think that's clear [TS]

01:04:32   i I can't really argue with that but I [TS]

01:04:35   mean it sounds even from your experience [TS]

01:04:38   it sounds like there's just a baseline [TS]

01:04:40   level of windows crappiness that you [TS]

01:04:42   have to deal with even if you do [TS]

01:04:43   everything right well even if you have a [TS]

01:04:45   PC and it seems like that is [TS]

01:04:47   approximately like seventy-five percent [TS]

01:04:49   of the trouble we had so it isn't even [TS]

01:04:51   that much less than the trouble we have [TS]

01:04:53   well but you but you did you make bad [TS]

01:04:55   choices you didn't activate immediately [TS]

01:04:57   you didn't think about the fact you had [TS]

01:04:58   update you installed one attached two [TS]

01:05:00   different hardware then you're going to [TS]

01:05:01   play on like they're all mistakes that i [TS]

01:05:02   could have got you away from you you [TS]

01:05:05   presented as a tip before you knew it [TS]

01:05:06   was ready like that some of these are [TS]

01:05:07   just procedural marriage mistakes and [TS]

01:05:09   some of them are technical assistance [TS]

01:05:10   windows and like and see what I'm doing [TS]

01:05:14   it myself i am both the preparer and the [TS]

01:05:16   person who I'm playing for I'm the most [TS]

01:05:17   demanding customer for playing I don't [TS]

01:05:19   want to even begin to play session until [TS]

01:05:20   I'm absolutely dead sure that everything [TS]

01:05:22   is all set right [TS]

01:05:23   John next time you say that this is [TS]

01:05:26   going to be fine and it's so easy just [TS]

01:05:28   put something on this thing and then we [TS]

01:05:30   can play it you're gonna come over here [TS]

01:05:31   first and do it for us and then I like [TS]

01:05:34   you I feel like you should bring the [TS]

01:05:35   computer to me for the service but yeah [TS]

01:05:37   there's a surprise John doesn't want to [TS]

01:05:39   leave the house don't know but it [TS]

01:05:40   wouldn't matter I'd like to drive places [TS]

01:05:42   in his test literally making pizza we [TS]

01:05:44   can show up I'm cool with that yeah i do [TS]

01:05:46   that seems like nobody wants to hear [TS]

01:05:49   so now that we've got you both here you [TS]

01:05:50   have this terrible experience like [TS]

01:05:52   another thing you need to know is the [TS]

01:05:54   care and feeding of bootcamp partition [TS]

01:05:55   and steam like I'm gonna die and in the [TS]

01:05:58   future that for Marco's is fine there [TS]

01:06:01   will come a time in the future when you [TS]

01:06:02   want to use this again to play game will [TS]

01:06:04   there really yeah [TS]

01:06:06   don't assume that because you played a [TS]

01:06:07   game on it three months ago that you're [TS]

01:06:09   like oh I already have that i'll just go [TS]

01:06:10   into it and download the gameplay you [TS]

01:06:12   will not they'll be windows updates will [TS]

01:06:14   be steamed updates you might have to be [TS]

01:06:15   updated drivers after both of those [TS]

01:06:17   happen like it's you know you have there [TS]

01:06:20   is a care and feeding of it the longer [TS]

01:06:22   you go longer it takes that's why I [TS]

01:06:23   still usually allow for like eight with [TS]

01:06:25   an existing bootcamp partition like when [TS]

01:06:27   I had XP i allowed for one day to [TS]

01:06:29   install by the game to all the updates [TS]

01:06:30   launch it make sure it runs the next day [TS]

01:06:34   would be the play that they could ask [TS]

01:06:36   playing the game but just not you know [TS]

01:06:37   it's not that bad just that but you just [TS]

01:06:39   have to plan for if you go in and say [TS]

01:06:40   okay this new game is out [TS]

01:06:42   I've set aside this time I'm going to [TS]

01:06:44   boot back into boot camp for the first [TS]

01:06:45   time in three months you will not be [TS]

01:06:47   playing that game for a long time right [TS]

01:06:49   so you have to have the you know if you [TS]

01:06:52   use the boot campers in every day was [TS]

01:06:54   fine like it you know sort of beat you [TS]

01:06:55   it's like using your Mac everyday [TS]

01:06:56   everyone from all those updates or [TS]

01:06:58   whatever but it really kills you just [TS]

01:07:00   leave a dormant for months and months so [TS]

01:07:01   keep that in mind the next time the game [TS]

01:07:03   is out if she wants to play it get it [TS]

01:07:04   all set up for ahead of time [TS]

01:07:06   make sure all the updates to run [TS]

01:07:07   launched it play a little bit of [TS]

01:07:09   yourself [TS]

01:07:10   delete the savegame go back to the [TS]

01:07:11   beginning make sure he's and I don't [TS]

01:07:12   think you can purchase healthy already [TS]

01:07:13   because those buttons those bubbles with [TS]

01:07:15   the the you know while you maybe want to [TS]

01:07:17   activate it on the laptop is fine if [TS]

01:07:19   she's going to play their imac wipe the [TS]

01:07:20   whole thing start over install the imac [TS]

01:07:22   from the beginning when she's not there [TS]

01:07:23   something you may have to sacrifice your [TS]

01:07:25   own sleep to do this instead of just [TS]

01:07:27   going to bed early because you're tired [TS]

01:07:28   from fighting with windows so what part [TS]

01:07:30   of this is the fun playing the game [TS]

01:07:33   which is you're supposed to let her have [TS]

01:07:34   all the fun and you do all the work [TS]

01:07:35   that's is still too if I'm still here [TS]

01:07:39   I didn't really leave I did oh I just be [TS]

01:07:43   like that knowing that there is another [TS]

01:07:45   way to do this where you just turn on a [TS]

01:07:47   game and it's there and maybe there's [TS]

01:07:49   one update is just well it's better I I [TS]

01:07:52   think you already under underestimate [TS]

01:07:54   the number updates on consoles like you [TS]

01:07:56   got your xbox one out-of-the-box you're [TS]

01:07:58   not playing the you know inside on that [TS]

01:08:00   xbox and so you run through all the [TS]

01:08:01   updates the xbox system software then [TS]

01:08:03   download the game and then whatever [TS]

01:08:04   patches that it's not it's better it's [TS]

01:08:06   way better not gonna say it's not but [TS]

01:08:08   it's not like oh we the xbox just [TS]

01:08:10   arrived set that up for me after I [TS]

01:08:12   finished lunch i'll start playing now [TS]

01:08:13   you want [TS]

01:08:14   that's the problem it's like like we we [TS]

01:08:16   think of consoles like the way the Sega [TS]

01:08:18   Genesis was it just literally always [TS]

01:08:20   work exactly the same way you plug in [TS]

01:08:21   the game you eternal on it starts [TS]

01:08:23   immediately a place that game you're [TS]

01:08:24   done [TS]

01:08:25   well that's the way steam on mac works [TS]

01:08:27   sort of you constantly using your mac [TS]

01:08:30   and you constantly updating and I bet [TS]

01:08:31   steam updates like every other time you [TS]

01:08:32   launch it anyway even on your Mac it's [TS]

01:08:33   just you're constantly doing that so the [TS]

01:08:35   updates are gigantic and it's not seven [TS]

01:08:36   of them it's just you know the cost of [TS]

01:08:38   doing business the ongoing cost of just [TS]

01:08:39   using your mac and running updates all [TS]

01:08:41   the time whenever you [TS]

01:08:42   like it i don't think i want to pay this [TS]

01:08:43   cost John Marco supposed to say I said [TS]

01:08:46   why he doesn't work you have all the fun [TS]

01:08:49   yeah why is he the one paying this [TS]

01:08:50   costume why aren't you why aren't I [TS]

01:08:52   getting berated to learn how to do all [TS]

01:08:54   this stuff myself [TS]

01:08:55   come on it's obvious you could but then [TS]

01:08:57   you have to pay the costs and then you [TS]

01:08:58   have to have the fun but that's what i [TS]

01:08:59   did i no one else my family is helping [TS]

01:09:01   me set up my boot campers and i pay the [TS]

01:09:02   costs and I have the funder saying the [TS]

01:09:04   situation of the market was going to do [TS]

01:09:05   it for you then you that's the [TS]

01:09:07   arrangement you can have if you want to [TS]

01:09:08   do it all yourself and not trust market [TS]

01:09:10   to do it because maybe you have exactly [TS]

01:09:11   as much more windows he dies which is [TS]

01:09:13   entirely plausible than you can know who [TS]

01:09:18   that's insulting you [TS]

01:09:21   Marco trust me huh anyway hope this game [TS]

01:09:24   is good you want to finish yeah I need [TS]

01:09:26   to go finish this game [TS]

01:09:27   all right i'll see you on the [TS]

01:09:28   incomparable John ok to enjoy thanks a [TS]

01:09:31   lot incomparable for causing all this [TS]

01:11:37   s wrote in and said I've spotted a new [TS]

01:11:40   trend whilst commuting on the London [TS]

01:11:42   tube every day and it drives me all caps [TS]

01:11:44   nuts before returning the iphone to [TS]

01:11:47   their pocket or bag i'd say probably [TS]

01:11:48   ninety percent of the 16 to 22 year olds [TS]

01:11:50   quit all of their apps [TS]

01:11:52   ok and then flick up control center that [TS]

01:11:54   the control center panel em and turn the [TS]

01:11:57   brightness to 0 before putting the phone [TS]

01:11:59   to sleep [TS]

01:12:00   what why because they want a thinner [TS]

01:12:04   iphone yeah that fits perfectly with the [TS]

01:12:07   with the quitting on the absolute we [TS]

01:12:09   have discussed at length on other shows [TS]

01:12:10   and is mostly pointless and possibly [TS]

01:12:13   detrimental depending on what's going on [TS]

01:12:15   turning the control center brightness [TS]

01:12:17   down is exactly the same kind of like it [TS]

01:12:19   makes no logical sense if you think [TS]

01:12:20   about it because brightness must mean [TS]

01:12:22   uses the battery and even though putting [TS]

01:12:24   to sleep i feel better about turning the [TS]

01:12:25   brightness all the way down because it [TS]

01:12:26   actually wakes up in my pocket or the [TS]

01:12:28   next time I wake it up [TS]

01:12:29   it's this is a bad idea people like [TS]

01:12:31   there's no end to the number of things [TS]

01:12:33   that people do like putting chicken [TS]

01:12:35   entrails or in a circle around their bed [TS]

01:12:37   at night to make their phone charge [TS]

01:12:38   faster whatever there is no any other [TS]

01:12:40   things that they will do like if if we [TS]

01:12:42   could put more things in like control [TS]

01:12:44   center and settings and stuff it seemed [TS]

01:12:46   to be power related before they put [TS]

01:12:48   their phones to sleep is the best one [TS]

01:12:49   because the screen is basically off when [TS]

01:12:51   you put it to sleep and yet they still [TS]

01:12:52   want to turn the brightness down and you [TS]

01:12:54   know it's like the energy used by [TS]

01:12:56   pulling up control center and it's [TS]

01:12:58   probably you know negates the energy [TS]

01:13:00   they say by having the brightness down a [TS]

01:13:02   millisecond before they hit the power [TS]

01:13:03   button to put the thing to sleep but [TS]

01:13:05   wait there is some validity here because [TS]

01:13:07   if a notification comes in [TS]

01:13:09   cause of the screen to light up it will [TS]

01:13:11   then be at lower brightness for those [TS]

01:13:12   like five seconds i know i understand [TS]

01:13:14   yes very briefly on and yeah I know I [TS]

01:13:17   know but like but seriously like the [TS]

01:13:18   amount of time they send on on the [TS]

01:13:20   double tap the home button and flicking [TS]

01:13:22   those things up and the GPU cycle the [TS]

01:13:24   energy of like quickly is for like the [TS]

01:13:25   other it's just this is naughty and not [TS]

01:13:28   to mention time which is a resource that [TS]

01:13:30   is not renewable like this is not a good [TS]

01:13:32   use of your time if you're doing this [TS]

01:13:34   please stop if you see your friends [TS]

01:13:35   putting apps try to convince them that [TS]

01:13:37   it's not the thing to do I really [TS]

01:13:38   desperately hope that Apple does like [TS]

01:13:41   makes force quitting apps require like [TS]

01:13:43   double key ignition like the nuclear [TS]

01:13:46   launch code type things like makes it so [TS]

01:13:48   much more cumbersome so that to actually [TS]

01:13:50   force quit every single one of your [TS]

01:13:51   applications would just take way too [TS]

01:13:54   long and then that will force people to [TS]

01:13:55   stop this was I think there they'll give [TS]

01:13:57   up it takes 17 taps in a way that's [TS]

01:13:59   happened to hold a force press this to [TS]

01:14:01   force quit one app will they [TS]

01:14:03   yeah i think i'll just take too long [TS]

01:14:04   like they won't be able to put the phone [TS]

01:14:06   away they also has been 15 minutes did [TS]

01:14:08   like then you know we talked about it [TS]

01:14:09   for the google the other extremist just [TS]

01:14:11   give him a button that makes all the [TS]

01:14:12   pictures go away but doesn't actually [TS]

01:14:13   force quit anything but you still [TS]

01:14:14   legitimately need a way to force great [TS]

01:14:16   apps on your phone so that has to exist [TS]

01:14:18   that's just it [TS]

01:14:20   this is such a mess this this whole [TS]

01:14:22   enterprise apples partially to blame but [TS]

01:14:24   so are people passing around sort of [TS]

01:14:27   superstitions about what you should do [TS]

01:14:29   your phone and yes Marco I saw your dick [TS]

01:14:30   there yes Apple should make phones with [TS]

01:14:32   more battery we all agree yeah I mean [TS]

01:14:34   that's not gonna get the course of today [TS]

01:14:36   I wait till they announce the new phone [TS]

01:14:38   but if they did you think it would stop [TS]

01:14:39   these people from like turning Bryan and [TS]

01:14:41   I don't think it would because it's not [TS]

01:14:42   it's not founded is not evidence-based [TS]

01:14:44   medicine as they say which as we know as [TS]

01:14:46   we go call normally medicine [TS]

01:14:48   well but you know it yeah you know if if [TS]

01:14:51   people weren't always running out of [TS]

01:14:53   battery [TS]

01:14:54   they wouldn't be so desperate for [TS]

01:14:56   solutions and he even if these solutions [TS]

01:14:59   are fake or an effective they're still a [TS]

01:15:01   very clear demand here that customers [TS]

01:15:04   are saying and have been saying for a [TS]

01:15:05   very long time [TS]

01:15:07   my battery doesn't last long enough and [TS]

01:15:09   therefore i'm going to seek out stupid [TS]

01:15:11   tricks to make it last longer [TS]

01:15:12   yeah well so that but the bad thing [TS]

01:15:14   about these tricks is they do them like [TS]

01:15:16   so everyone has had the battery run out [TS]

01:15:17   at some point and the more you have [TS]

01:15:18   around the more you're going to seek out [TS]

01:15:19   the superstition so there's a true that [TS]

01:15:21   right [TS]

01:15:21   but the other thing is that like it runs [TS]

01:15:23   out because they're out for a long day [TS]

01:15:26   played a lot of games there was a bug in [TS]

01:15:27   the OSR bug in some apps that burn [TS]

01:15:29   through the battery and that triggers [TS]

01:15:31   the seeking out of soup that you know [TS]

01:15:32   asking the people in your tribe what you [TS]

01:15:34   do to make this magical device not [TS]

01:15:36   around a battery they tell you all these [TS]

01:15:37   tricks and you you do these tricks [TS]

01:15:39   religiously and the next day your [TS]

01:15:41   battery doesn't run out and you [TS]

01:15:42   attribute the fact that your battery [TS]

01:15:44   didn't run out to the fact that you did [TS]

01:15:45   all these tricks no se but you don't [TS]

01:15:46   need to do all that said no I do these [TS]

01:15:48   things and now my battery doesn't run [TS]

01:15:49   out like they don't understand that the [TS]

01:15:50   reason about a round of the day before I [TS]

01:15:51   had nothing to do with not doing those [TS]

01:15:52   things it was a different situation so [TS]

01:15:54   they every time they do these every day [TS]

01:15:56   they go through and the battery doesn't [TS]

01:15:58   run out and I do all this stuff [TS]

01:15:59   reinforces in their mind the idea that [TS]

01:16:00   doing these things cause the battery not [TS]

01:16:02   to run out which is not the case right [TS]

01:16:03   and so there's it's almost impossible to [TS]

01:16:06   convince them they should stop doing [TS]

01:16:07   this did like but when i do this is like [TS]

01:16:10   the leases rock and simpsons you know [TS]

01:16:12   this rock keeps away Tigers you know and [TS]

01:16:14   it sounds like having to rockaway tigers [TS]

01:16:16   and lisa says you don't see any Tigers [TS]

01:16:17   do you and then Homer says Lisa I'd like [TS]

01:16:19   to buy that rock like that's not the [TS]

01:16:21   human brain works so it's impossible to [TS]

01:16:23   convince people these things don't work [TS]

01:16:24   so i think the battery life and the [TS]

01:16:26   iphone could stand improvement but for [TS]

01:16:29   most people it last tour normal sort of [TS]

01:16:31   medium to light used a heavy use days [TS]

01:16:33   it's still not sufficient which is why i [TS]

01:16:35   have battery cases and those days people [TS]

01:16:37   run out of batteries and those are the [TS]

01:16:38   days that drive them to seek out these [TS]

01:16:40   things but you see but that's that's [TS]

01:16:41   that's the problem here like we [TS]

01:16:43   mentioned earlier in our in the camera [TS]

01:16:45   discussion i was saying how like you [TS]

01:16:47   these new Maryland's cameras have [TS]

01:16:48   especially to set this at the high end [TS]

01:16:50   so anyone's have terrible battery life [TS]

01:16:52   and on my sony I've done all sorts of [TS]

01:16:54   stupid tricks to try to stretch the [TS]

01:16:57   better life a little bit further because [TS]

01:16:58   it just isn't good enough and I have [TS]

01:16:59   always liked you I keep the phone on [TS]

01:17:01   airplane mode so i don't using the Wi-Fi [TS]

01:17:02   feature have always liked all the screen [TS]

01:17:04   turn off really fast and it in all this [TS]

01:17:05   stuff like all these tricks to try to [TS]

01:17:07   save a little bit about that power [TS]

01:17:09   because it's so scarce [TS]

01:17:10   meanwhile i never once had to seek out a [TS]

01:17:12   trick I had to save battery power on my [TS]

01:17:15   SLR because the battery was so [TS]

01:17:16   ridiculously big and it didn't use that [TS]

01:17:19   much of it that it was just hardly ever [TS]

01:17:20   a problem the solution to this problem [TS]

01:17:23   is to fix the symptoms that cause people [TS]

01:17:26   to see that these solutions in the first [TS]

01:17:28   place and I'm not like when people say [TS]

01:17:30   like oh we're kin phones go we they are [TS]

01:17:32   so mature now I don't know what phones [TS]

01:17:33   can get better at [TS]

01:17:34   only they can get better at this this is [TS]

01:17:36   one big thing that has always been a [TS]

01:17:38   problem with with almost all portable [TS]

01:17:40   devices especially cell phones and I [TS]

01:17:44   think it's really time to start thinking [TS]

01:17:45   about the problem differently it's very [TS]

01:17:47   clear that the way Apple things about [TS]

01:17:49   this problem is they have the way they [TS]

01:17:51   they they were these certain tests of [TS]

01:17:53   like you know voice usage and light web [TS]

01:17:56   browsing and everything but I think it's [TS]

01:17:58   increasingly clear that we keep coming [TS]

01:18:00   up with really cool things we can do [TS]

01:18:02   with these phones that use [TS]

01:18:04   something-or-other that needs a lot of [TS]

01:18:06   power whether it's the GPS chip or the [TS]

01:18:08   camera or the high-end cpu speed and you [TS]

01:18:11   may be using the GPU do a bunch of cool [TS]

01:18:13   3d stuff using AR compositing using [TS]

01:18:16   advanced processing whatever the case [TS]

01:18:17   may be we are coming up with things that [TS]

01:18:19   we can do with these phones that justice [TS]

01:18:21   or the battery and along with the ones [TS]

01:18:22   we already had things like you know [TS]

01:18:24   turn-by-turn directions like that that [TS]

01:18:25   slaughters the batteries you're keeping [TS]

01:18:26   gps on I don't think this makes for a [TS]

01:18:29   good overall product that the story is [TS]

01:18:32   the battle week will be good enough as [TS]

01:18:34   long as you don't really do much with it [TS]

01:18:36   why should be penalized for using it the [TS]

01:18:39   way you know using all these great [TS]

01:18:40   features that you've added and and [TS]

01:18:42   developed and and/or that I've bought in [TS]

01:18:44   the app store or more likely in taking [TS]

01:18:47   the appstore gotten in the app store you [TS]

01:18:49   know why is this okay why is the status [TS]

01:18:51   quo and and why why is considered good [TS]

01:18:54   enough [TS]

01:18:55   oh yeah well it's totally normal for any [TS]

01:18:58   non-trivial use of your phone even if [TS]

01:19:01   you use too trivial things for a long [TS]

01:19:02   time during the day those battery life [TS]

01:19:05   estimates are based on very light usage [TS]

01:19:07   of your phone and having it off in your [TS]

01:19:09   pocket most of the day [TS]

01:19:11   well our phones are increasingly [TS]

01:19:12   becoming our computers that's not how [TS]

01:19:14   people use computers people's computers [TS]

01:19:15   more all day than that it's like I feel [TS]

01:19:18   like we are standards are too low both [TS]

01:19:20   us as consumers are expectations and [TS]

01:19:23   apple standards in this area are too low [TS]

01:19:25   that when you start thinking about like [TS]

01:19:27   how amazing [TS]

01:19:29   could the phone be if the battery was [TS]

01:19:32   not the same as it was now was not just [TS]

01:19:34   like fifteen percent bigger what if it [TS]

01:19:36   was four times bigger like how would [TS]

01:19:39   that change the way we can use these [TS]

01:19:41   devices [TS]

01:19:42   how would it change how how many of [TS]

01:19:43   these stupid habits would people no [TS]

01:19:45   longer need to do [TS]

01:19:47   if the average person during the two [TS]

01:19:49   years they own their phone never ran a [TS]

01:19:52   battery or maybe it happened once you [TS]

01:19:54   like things would change dramatically [TS]

01:19:56   but we are never going to get there if [TS]

01:19:59   we keep making these little tiny [TS]

01:20:00   incremental improvements because we've [TS]

01:20:02   declared 10 hours wireless web or [TS]

01:20:04   whatever to be good enough [TS]

01:20:07   well I think that we are there it's just [TS]

01:20:09   were there by strapping backpacks to our [TS]

01:20:11   phones and that's why Apple made the [TS]

01:20:13   battery case what that's why mophie [TS]

01:20:14   makes a killing with every new phone i [TS]

01:20:17   agree with you by and large that we [TS]

01:20:19   really should expect and ask for a [TS]

01:20:21   little bit more juice on these phones [TS]

01:20:22   and and I think we've talked all three [TS]

01:20:24   of us to talk about this to death on [TS]

01:20:25   prior episodes but it really the the [TS]

01:20:28   fixed today is to strap a humpback here [TS]

01:20:31   to turn your phone into a humpback phone [TS]

01:20:33   and then the problem solved [TS]

01:20:35   real-time follow up on the Real pressing [TS]

01:20:37   issue here which is the Luna to the the [TS]

01:20:39   really ridiculous habits of the youths [TS]

01:20:43   of Britain when your phone is in your [TS]

01:20:46   pocket [TS]

01:20:47   it will not light up at least on iOS 10 [TS]

01:20:49   i just sent myself a push notification I [TS]

01:20:52   had my finger mashed on the ambient [TS]

01:20:55   light sensor and it did not light up [TS]

01:20:56   that maybe it maybe those chances we [TS]

01:20:58   could have it facing a certain direction [TS]

01:21:00   maybe different os's did like a lot of [TS]

01:21:01   the superstition and stuff is based on [TS]

01:21:03   like maybe the current one doesn't [TS]

01:21:04   relate they don't they don't update is [TS]

01:21:06   not evidence based on updating it based [TS]

01:21:07   on current scenarios and as we set our [TS]

01:21:09   past shows force quitting can actually [TS]

01:21:10   cost your battery life if you're just [TS]

01:21:12   going to use that same app again you're [TS]

01:21:13   causing it to launch for fresh state [TS]

01:21:14   over and over and over it's better to [TS]

01:21:16   resume is better to have it suspended [TS]

01:21:17   and resume it better for your battery [TS]

01:21:19   thing you're trying to say but i think [TS]

01:21:21   this whole topic segues nicely into the [TS]

01:21:23   actually the first time our topic this [TS]

01:21:25   was talking about the the iphone 7 [TS]

01:21:26   rumors which mostly stuff that we talked [TS]

01:21:28   about before but you know another topic [TS]

01:21:31   we visit before it's like oh this one [TS]

01:21:32   looks like it's going to be about the [TS]

01:21:33   same size and shape as the iphone 6 and [TS]

01:21:36   I assume the inside as they usually do [TS]

01:21:39   will become slightly more [TS]

01:21:40   power-efficient various ways so if it's [TS]

01:21:43   the same size of the iphone 6 the inside [TS]

01:21:45   the more power-efficient it should get [TS]

01:21:47   better battery life right like this [TS]

01:21:49   should be it's not like we're mark was [TS]

01:21:51   talking about four times bigger but it [TS]

01:21:53   it seems like it could be potentially a [TS]

01:21:55   change the trend where from year to year [TS]

01:21:57   battery life is basically the same that [TS]

01:22:00   you know they're basically like they [TS]

01:22:01   they they they have a new phone but they [TS]

01:22:03   make a little bit thinner and they try [TS]

01:22:04   to you know the insides take less power [TS]

01:22:06   but they use less but they put a smaller [TS]

01:22:07   battery in it to make it thinner and to [TS]

01:22:09   try to you know like the ipad and try to [TS]

01:22:10   keep it around 10 hours keep their stats [TS]

01:22:12   around the same and very some go up and [TS]

01:22:13   some go down it's not a smooth slope but [TS]

01:22:15   for this going to be the third year in a [TS]

01:22:17   row with the same physical size phone i [TS]

01:22:20   have to think that this has to have [TS]

01:22:22   better battery life at least better much [TS]

01:22:23   better battery life in the six not just [TS]

01:22:25   like a little bump on the graph but [TS]

01:22:26   significantly better and if it doesn't I [TS]

01:22:28   wonder what they're using like have they [TS]

01:22:30   found a new way to suck up all that [TS]

01:22:32   battery power because like it it may be [TS]

01:22:35   too much to ask as we have so many times [TS]

01:22:37   for Apple please make one fat phone like [TS]

01:22:39   ya don't make all your phones fat but to [TS]

01:22:41   make one fat phone why not make one fat [TS]

01:22:43   one for the people who wants a better [TS]

01:22:45   and one fat laptop yeah exactly right [TS]

01:22:47   but they're not going to do that this [TS]

01:22:49   may be again one of the potential silver [TS]

01:22:51   linings of the otherwise fairly [TS]

01:22:53   unremarkable iphone 7 from what we know [TS]

01:22:55   from the rumors and potentially [TS]

01:22:57   infuriating iphone 7 with no headphone [TS]

01:22:59   port is hey it could have better battery [TS]

01:23:02   life than the six and success in a way [TS]

01:23:04   that people would notice there's still [TS]

01:23:06   force quit all their apps in turn the [TS]

01:23:07   screen brightness down but whatever [TS]

01:23:09   no but it's see that something like it's [TS]

01:23:11   not the way you get better battery life [TS]

01:23:13   is by a dramatic change in the power [TS]

01:23:16   efficiency of the components or by [TS]

01:23:19   increasing the battery size and that's [TS]

01:23:21   how it that's how this happens not [TS]

01:23:22   biased like you're not like fifteen [TS]

01:23:24   percent like it's fifteen percent more [TS]

01:23:25   battery life that's nice i'll take it [TS]

01:23:27   but that's not going to change anybody's [TS]

01:23:28   behavior that's not going to be a [TS]

01:23:29   radical shift in what we can do with [TS]

01:23:31   these devices that we couldn't do before [TS]

01:23:32   it could change new users behavior [TS]

01:23:34   because if they never actually run out [TS]

01:23:36   of battery [TS]

01:23:37   they won't seek out these tweaks like [TS]

01:23:38   you said if you never get into [TS]

01:23:39   situations run out and it could be that [TS]

01:23:42   for a huge philosophy / 15 more fifteen [TS]

01:23:44   percent more is enough to get them over [TS]

01:23:45   the hump we're like before there but [TS]

01:23:48   they better would have been dead in it i [TS]

01:23:49   would have had an hour left until they [TS]

01:23:50   get home and put on the nightstand and [TS]

01:23:52   now at last that extra hour and and and [TS]

01:23:54   has 30 minutes to spare after that so [TS]

01:23:56   they feel like maybe they feel like I [TS]

01:23:57   just made it maybe have a little bit of [TS]

01:23:58   anxiety but they never actually [TS]

01:24:00   literally run out of battery [TS]

01:24:02   I think that will go a long way to [TS]

01:24:03   helping and really like three years same [TS]

01:24:05   size like the components and so i can [TS]

01:24:07   get smaller to making room for more [TS]

01:24:09   battery like all the same form factor [TS]

01:24:11   for three years I think if you add up [TS]

01:24:14   all the small games over those years the [TS]

01:24:16   difference between 26 and 27 is going to [TS]

01:24:18   be huge difference success and seven [TS]

01:24:20   maybe not as huge but this is all [TS]

01:24:22   predicated on something we're not sure [TS]

01:24:24   about which is who they could have done [TS]

01:24:26   the same thing with the cpu like oh we [TS]

01:24:27   we have a more power efficient process [TS]

01:24:29   for and we've you know reduce the number [TS]

01:24:31   of chips and some of our chips are made [TS]

01:24:33   on a smaller process than they used to [TS]

01:24:34   be like the ancillary supporting ships [TS]

01:24:36   so we do have a power drop let's use [TS]

01:24:38   that to crank the clock speed [TS]

01:24:39   let's use that to add more course to the [TS]

01:24:41   GPU like we have no idea what's inside [TS]

01:24:43   the system on the ship so could be there [TS]

01:24:45   all everything i'm saying is not true [TS]

01:24:46   and in fact they basically use their [TS]

01:24:48   budget of extra space and extra power to [TS]

01:24:52   make this phone faster because that's [TS]

01:24:53   the only thing that I've heard about [TS]

01:24:55   this phone [TS]

01:24:55   besides the dual cameras on the dawn [TS]

01:24:57   supposedly on the big one that makes you [TS]

01:24:59   make someone think that it would be [TS]

01:25:01   better than the successes like well [TS]

01:25:02   it'll be faster because you know i'll [TS]

01:25:05   have a better system on a chip on it and [TS]

01:25:06   doesn't everyone like faster yes I do [TS]

01:25:08   like faster just complaining about slow [TS]

01:25:10   iphone last week and dual cameras might [TS]

01:25:12   be neat but on the other hand and taking [TS]

01:25:14   away the headphone port anything looks [TS]

01:25:15   the same so I maybe that's not enough [TS]

01:25:18   that's the thing i mean like from what [TS]

01:25:20   we know from revolve know in quotes what [TS]

01:25:22   the rumors say so far what we've heard [TS]

01:25:25   from various birdies and tipsters is [TS]

01:25:27   basically that yet the same shape and [TS]

01:25:29   size it's a little bit lighter weight [TS]

01:25:31   and it's you know faster a lot faster [TS]

01:25:34   supposedly and there was there was very [TS]

01:25:36   briefly macrumors repost of a story [TS]

01:25:39   about Allah the hit appear on their feet [TS]

01:25:41   and was nowhere on their site but I i [TS]

01:25:43   say that of course that there is [TS]

01:25:45   allegedly a leaf d pinch test of the new [TS]

01:25:47   of the new a10 ship and it if it was [TS]

01:25:51   real it showed roughly fifty percent [TS]

01:25:53   performance increase over the the a9 [TS]

01:25:57   that's cool you know that's real and you [TS]

01:25:59   know that kind of matches up kind of [TS]

01:26:00   what we've been hearing so you know [TS]

01:26:02   that's it is probably a lot faster and [TS]

01:26:04   that's great but if if things get more [TS]

01:26:07   power-efficient Apple spends it [TS]

01:26:08   basically like any gains they get [TS]

01:26:10   inefficiency they spend it in other [TS]

01:26:12   places and they keep roughly the same [TS]

01:26:14   target battery life [TS]

01:26:15   because they they think in general [TS]

01:26:17   they've that they have good battery life [TS]

01:26:18   and that's where I think like no like we [TS]

01:26:21   too weak to work on that assumption [TS]

01:26:22   there there's a great post in six colors [TS]

01:26:24   a couple years ago where Jason basically [TS]

01:26:26   went through and graft the battery life [TS]

01:26:29   over time by Apple's various testing [TS]

01:26:31   metrics of iphones and ipads and the [TS]

01:26:34   iphone graph is very little bit but [TS]

01:26:36   they're all kind of in the same range [TS]

01:26:38   and the 6 plus comes out and it's like a [TS]

01:26:40   big jump up did it doesn't include the s [TS]

01:26:43   generation that's too old and the funny [TS]

01:26:44   thing is that the ipad battery life is a [TS]

01:26:47   straight line like this it's always 10 [TS]

01:26:49   hours but it did changed no part of that [TS]

01:26:52   because any advances they make in power [TS]

01:26:56   efficiency etc they they basically spend [TS]

01:27:00   by making the battery smaller or by [TS]

01:27:03   increasing the power budget for things [TS]

01:27:05   like a faster cpu so Apple is clearly [TS]

01:27:09   you know it is jason put it in this [TS]

01:27:11   article solving for x like they've [TS]

01:27:14   determined like a a certain battery life [TS]

01:27:16   to be this is good this is a good target [TS]

01:27:18   we don't really need to get much better [TS]

01:27:20   than this [TS]

01:27:21   so let's any games we make them we can [TS]

01:27:24   make the devices thinner and lighter or [TS]

01:27:25   whatever or make the CPUs faster or [TS]

01:27:27   whatever and that this is the problem [TS]

01:27:30   like i don't see how we get off this [TS]

01:27:31   treadmill basically like I ICS [TS]

01:27:34   continuing to make these incremental [TS]

01:27:36   advantage the incremental advances over [TS]

01:27:38   you know here and there like like you [TS]

01:27:40   next year supposedly we're getting an [TS]

01:27:41   oled screen and that will be a big power [TS]

01:27:43   savings but is that is that they're [TS]

01:27:46   going to go into making the phone [TS]

01:27:47   thinner and lighter probably or you know [TS]

01:27:49   putting other you know making other [TS]

01:27:51   components use more power or whatever [TS]

01:27:52   else like that's probably gonna happen [TS]

01:27:54   instead because Apple feels that this is [TS]

01:27:55   good enough because they didn't feel [TS]

01:27:57   this was good enough they would release [TS]

01:27:58   a thicker one that you could buy through [TS]

01:28:00   work with more battery power [TS]

01:28:01   the thing about those graphs is Apple's [TS]

01:28:03   controlling all aspects of them may [TS]

01:28:05   control the product they also control [TS]

01:28:06   the methodology of the measurement [TS]

01:28:07   that's true then i assume apples [TS]

01:28:09   adjusting the methodology because they [TS]

01:28:10   do collect like all those stats and [TS]

01:28:12   everything and what you were saying [TS]

01:28:14   before is essentially telling Apple [TS]

01:28:16   Apple year you have to change your [TS]

01:28:17   methodology even more than you have been [TS]

01:28:19   because people use your phones in [TS]

01:28:20   different ways they can do many more [TS]

01:28:21   things like if our people reading [TS]

01:28:23   Twitter you know in 2008-2009 people [TS]

01:28:26   reading Twitter on their phones it's [TS]

01:28:27   like it's a table view full text [TS]

01:28:29   scrolling it now people are snapchatting [TS]

01:28:31   that is a whole different you know a [TS]

01:28:33   battery use sort of profile so I so [TS]

01:28:36   Apple does updates methodology overtime [TS]

01:28:39   and based on our diagnostic data they [TS]

01:28:41   just say while people are really using [TS]

01:28:43   more power per minute of staring at [TS]

01:28:46   their phones because the applications [TS]

01:28:48   are using as you said are doing more [TS]

01:28:49   interesting things so I hope that they [TS]

01:28:51   wanted their methodology I can see a [TS]

01:28:52   scenario where they keep that graph [TS]

01:28:54   basically level but keep changing their [TS]

01:28:56   methodology to say [TS]

01:28:58   normal usage is now uses way more power [TS]

01:29:01   than it used to [TS]

01:29:02   and I think they must have been doing [TS]

01:29:03   that already because it's not as if [TS]

01:29:04   normal usage and a 3gs is the same as [TS]

01:29:05   normal usage on on a six like they must [TS]

01:29:08   be doing that it's just that you again [TS]

01:29:09   we're we're all saying that they're [TS]

01:29:10   they're off the curve like they think [TS]

01:29:12   everything is fine and they're dead [TS]

01:29:13   they're under maybe just under maybe [TS]

01:29:15   under by a big amount and there are many [TS]

01:29:16   ways they can solve they don't seem to [TS]

01:29:18   be doing it if there but I still feel [TS]

01:29:19   like they're within shooting distance of [TS]

01:29:21   it especially keeping the form factor [TS]

01:29:22   the same for three years in a row and [TS]

01:29:24   the faster cpu and like fifty percent is [TS]

01:29:26   a big jump [TS]

01:29:27   yeah you know it and so you get the [TS]

01:29:30   advantage of things like race to sleep [TS]

01:29:31   where how can a faster cpu help you save [TS]

01:29:33   battery because it gets done with its [TS]

01:29:35   computation goes back into the low power [TS]

01:29:36   mode faster right there are you don't [TS]

01:29:39   you know we're all specs we don't know [TS]

01:29:40   what the profile this chip is they could [TS]

01:29:42   burn all the extra energy i'm just more [TS]

01:29:44   GPU cores for all we know because they [TS]

01:29:46   love to do that and it's really easy to [TS]

01:29:47   add them and they do make your games [TS]

01:29:48   faster but what he hears that here's the [TS]

01:29:51   problem though so much of modern [TS]

01:29:53   computing it you know and much of it [TS]

01:29:55   with Apple devices right in the middle [TS]

01:29:56   of it is based on this idea that we have [TS]

01:29:59   to just conserve conserved conserved to [TS]

01:30:01   sit power everywhere and never push [TS]

01:30:03   anything too hard for too long the race [TS]

01:30:05   to sleep it is a big part of that [TS]

01:30:07   what if we had so much power that we [TS]

01:30:10   could actually use the cpu I know this [TS]

01:30:12   is a radical concept that's called [TS]

01:30:14   that's called a desktop computer and i [TS]

01:30:15   have one yeah this is a radical concept [TS]

01:30:17   i know but like like over the weekend I [TS]

01:30:20   was a this past weekend I was getting [TS]

01:30:22   some work done on my macbook pro not [TS]

01:30:25   playing games on it in the mouth of a [TS]

01:30:27   pro and i was running Xcode and i was i [TS]

01:30:29   was working on mp3 encoder doing some [TS]

01:30:31   tests that we talked about last episode [TS]

01:30:32   using Xcode doing some builds and [TS]

01:30:35   occasionally having having like a one [TS]

01:30:37   minute or so burst of all four course [TS]

01:30:39   being maxed out [TS]

01:30:41   going back to Xcode code and going back [TS]

01:30:43   and so you know it was moderate to heavy [TS]

01:30:45   use not even i'm not even talking about [TS]

01:30:46   like a handbrake transcode for two hours [TS]

01:30:48   like I'm just talking like it would max [TS]

01:30:50   out the course sometimes for a minute or [TS]

01:30:53   so and then go back to moderate use [TS]

01:30:54   xcode this made this laptop that is not [TS]

01:30:57   very old and that when you're not doing [TS]

01:30:59   much fun it has like a 10-hour quoted [TS]

01:31:01   battery life have instead a four hour [TS]

01:31:04   battery life and that sucks like it [TS]

01:31:07   totally changed how you use it like when [TS]

01:31:10   if I can use it around the around the [TS]

01:31:11   house which I was doing like all over [TS]

01:31:12   anyway we were we were upstate at my [TS]

01:31:15   in-laws place so i was like you lounging [TS]

01:31:18   around not not being plugged in tied [TS]

01:31:21   down anywhere like it was great but if [TS]

01:31:23   you have if you have to plug in like [TS]

01:31:25   every few hours to boost that backup [TS]

01:31:27   that's a lot less useful and it's a lot [TS]

01:31:29   less compelling and wouldn't it be nice [TS]

01:31:31   if you didn't have to do that and here [TS]

01:31:32   they are Apple has basically you know [TS]

01:31:35   we'll see what the new MacBook Pros have [TS]

01:31:37   in store but i'm guessing they're not [TS]

01:31:40   going to have twice the battery life i'm [TS]

01:31:42   guessing they're gonna have about the [TS]

01:31:43   same battery life and be thinner and [TS]

01:31:45   lighter and that's what people want [TS]

01:31:46   that's fine i wish that was the only [TS]

01:31:48   option because right now it's like [TS]

01:31:49   everything apple makes is a thin light [TS]

01:31:51   and thin lights are great for being thin [TS]

01:31:53   and light they're only ok for battery [TS]

01:31:55   life a lot of customers have different [TS]

01:31:57   needs and this is why I like I really i [TS]

01:32:00   mean i don't i guess i'll stop harping [TS]

01:32:02   on this after this but I just I really [TS]

01:32:04   am sad to see that Apple really keep [TS]

01:32:06   reducing the amount of choice we have we [TS]

01:32:08   have we have more and more choice in [TS]

01:32:11   areas that don't matter like color and [TS]

01:32:13   we have ever ever less choice on factors [TS]

01:32:17   that are important to people like me [TS]

01:32:20   things like battery life and and [TS]

01:32:22   high-end specs and things like that and [TS]

01:32:25   that worries me for my future happiness [TS]

01:32:28   on this platform [TS]

01:32:30   well but you're you're painting your [TS]

01:32:32   concerns is the only ones that matter [TS]

01:32:34   and apples clearly making these [TS]

01:32:36   decisions based on on what all of the [TS]

01:32:40   millions upon millions upon millions of [TS]

01:32:42   iphone users want i do agree with you [TS]

01:32:45   that twenty-five to fifty percent more [TS]

01:32:48   battery life I think would make every [TS]

01:32:50   single iphone user happier but with that [TS]

01:32:53   said I [TS]

01:32:54   I don't think doubling the thickness and [TS]

01:32:57   maybe that's aggressive i don't know but [TS]

01:32:59   but even even a hundred twenty-five [TS]

01:33:01   percent of the thickness now that we're [TS]

01:33:03   all used to these little slivers of of [TS]

01:33:05   metal [TS]

01:33:06   I don't know if that would make a lot of [TS]

01:33:07   people happy and I think a lot of people [TS]

01:33:08   look at that and go all even even if the [TS]

01:33:11   same person that just went little wood [TS]

01:33:13   would really love to have fifty percent [TS]

01:33:15   more battery life the first reaction [TS]

01:33:17   will be whole kind of like if they are [TS]

01:33:19   no remove the headphone jack or [TS]

01:33:20   something but iight I'm torn because I [TS]

01:33:25   think I think to some degree you're [TS]

01:33:27   projecting a little bit what your [TS]

01:33:28   personal needs and desires are in and [TS]

01:33:30   and saying these are the only ones that [TS]

01:33:32   matter because I guess what you're human [TS]

01:33:34   and since i have similar wants and needs [TS]

01:33:36   for my devices i tend to agree with you [TS]

01:33:38   but I don't think we should throw [TS]

01:33:40   everything out and say oh this is BS and [TS]

01:33:43   they're not really they're not really [TS]

01:33:45   doing what anyone wants because i think [TS]

01:33:46   most people do you just want to thin [TS]

01:33:48   white phone that lasts all day [TS]

01:33:49   the problem is is that i don't think [TS]

01:33:51   many people can get to that last all day [TS]

01:33:53   part the way it is now and John alluded [TS]

01:33:55   to earlier said earlier you know if he [TS]

01:33:57   was fifteen percent better maybe that [TS]

01:33:58   would get you over the hump well yeah [TS]

01:34:00   that that's probably true or are you for [TS]

01:34:03   a lot of people but in my case i am i'm [TS]

01:34:08   probably at between 10 and 30 percent of [TS]

01:34:11   the end of most days and i think another [TS]

01:34:13   ten or fifteen percent if I ended the [TS]

01:34:15   day at between let's say twenty and [TS]

01:34:17   forty percent that wouldn't make me stop [TS]

01:34:20   stressing about my battery life if I [TS]

01:34:23   ended the day at fifty percent all the [TS]

01:34:24   time like I did on my watch [TS]

01:34:26   then i would not be stressed about [TS]

01:34:27   battery life anymore configured as a [TS]

01:34:29   personal problem is the personality just [TS]

01:34:31   like with my percentage you become [TS]

01:34:33   anxious because we all know people who [TS]

01:34:34   like use their phone with a little [TS]

01:34:35   battery meter and the red and they're [TS]

01:34:36   fine with it and other people will get [TS]

01:34:38   close to fifty percent same thing with [TS]

01:34:39   gas tanks by the way is the 15 but my [TS]

01:34:42   wife asked me the other day she was [TS]

01:34:43   talking about the light on the dash for [TS]

01:34:45   like what like like you know the light [TS]

01:34:46   comes on when you're running low on gas [TS]

01:34:47   like I've never seen that light and [TS]

01:34:49   neither should you [TS]

01:34:49   what are you doing here know that life [TS]

01:34:53   existed but like you know cases like I [TS]

01:34:54   i'm not arguing that Apple should make [TS]

01:34:57   products to fit me period and ignore [TS]

01:35:00   what everyone else wants [TS]

01:35:01   I do wish there was more choice and even [TS]

01:35:03   if that choice wasn't perfect for me you [TS]

01:35:05   know right now like you know these the [TS]

01:35:07   way Apple target [TS]

01:35:08   the battery life and and other factors [TS]

01:35:10   but you know the better i think the big [TS]

01:35:12   one the way they target this you [TS]

01:35:14   basically have an entire product line [TS]

01:35:16   where everything has roughly the same [TS]

01:35:18   battery life or you know or fairly close [TS]

01:35:21   are we talking about the laptops we talk [TS]

01:35:23   about the phones because the homes if [TS]

01:35:24   you really wanted [TS]

01:35:26   if you really want battery life go + [TS]

01:35:27   club not the screens on the plus has way [TS]

01:35:30   better battery life if you're talking on [TS]

01:35:32   it or if it's playing music with the [TS]

01:35:33   screen off but when the screens on it [TS]

01:35:36   isn't that much better it's it's a it's [TS]

01:35:38   a little better but not that much better [TS]

01:35:40   so you know a lot of these areas where [TS]

01:35:42   we're like using the screen of the GPU [TS]

01:35:44   or like a lot of these things it will [TS]

01:35:45   actually wouldn't be tremendously better [TS]

01:35:47   but that and that is fair that is you [TS]

01:35:49   know it is a lot bigger phone and I you [TS]

01:35:51   know I would I wouldn't mind if my [TS]

01:35:53   success was thicker I anyway Apple has [TS]

01:35:56   spent the last few years basically [TS]

01:35:58   reducing the amount of choice we have in [TS]

01:36:00   in key areas or in in something like the [TS]

01:36:04   iphone were now we have more choice in [TS]

01:36:05   the iphone but we have a lot of choice [TS]

01:36:08   in in ways that maybe don't matter as [TS]

01:36:10   much [TS]

01:36:11   and one of the big things that like [TS]

01:36:13   everyone is that it is so so often needs [TS]

01:36:16   is more battery life and we don't really [TS]

01:36:18   have a choice that the only choice we [TS]

01:36:19   have is a crappy choice of bolting on [TS]

01:36:21   additional battery packs to it was like [TS]

01:36:23   external which suck because they are [TS]

01:36:26   they have to have you know all the all [TS]

01:36:28   the overhead of being an excellent [TS]

01:36:30   peripheral their own casing their own [TS]

01:36:32   circuitry their own charging their own [TS]

01:36:34   port their own cables or connectors like [TS]

01:36:36   all the all the crap that's overhead it [TS]

01:36:38   isn't just the additional battery so [TS]

01:36:41   that is a crappy solution and I hope [TS]

01:36:43   that is not apples long-term only plan [TS]

01:36:45   and finally I will close this by there's [TS]

01:36:48   a great line in our chat room a few [TS]

01:36:49   minutes ago from chris ltd saying what's [TS]

01:36:53   the point of having consumer and [TS]

01:36:54   prolines if the consumer and pro lines [TS]

01:36:57   are basically the same thing [TS]

01:36:59   consumer lines get updated haha oh my [TS]

01:37:06   god that's amazing [TS]

01:37:08   thanks a lot 43 sponsors this week [TS]

01:37:12   hover indochino and betterment and we'll [TS]

01:37:16   see you next week [TS]

01:37:18   now the show is over they didn't even [TS]

01:37:23   mean to be in because it was accidental [TS]

01:37:26   was accidental [TS]

01:37:29   John research Marco and Casey would [TS]

01:37:35   because it was accidentally was [TS]

01:37:38   accidental and you can find the show [TS]

01:37:42   know the day EP that and if twitter [TS]

01:37:48   follow them [TS]

01:37:51   yes eyl ISS that's Casey list and a [TS]

01:37:57   co-pay RM Angie Marco Arment and our AC [TS]

01:38:03   C recuse it [TS]

01:38:18   so John and I shared a private moment [TS]

01:38:23   before the show is something that you [TS]

01:38:24   need to keep private [TS]

01:38:25   well no now we want to tell the whole [TS]

01:38:27   world about a private moment we used [TS]

01:38:30   google duo together is that the thing [TS]

01:38:33   where people can show obscene pictures [TS]

01:38:35   to other people who didn't agree to it [TS]

01:38:38   yep that's the one yes you could choose [TS]

01:38:41   to do that if you so desired that was [TS]

01:38:42   the whole idea is that it shows what's [TS]

01:38:44   on the you know the before you even [TS]

01:38:46   accept the call you see video from the [TS]

01:38:48   others i think there was something about [TS]

01:38:49   that when i was doing it that like only [TS]

01:38:51   if they're in your contacts already that [TS]

01:38:53   happens or there somewhere we talked [TS]

01:38:55   about it was after Google i/o and they [TS]

01:38:57   demoed the features they didn't remember [TS]

01:38:58   i said they didn't say anything about [TS]

01:38:59   the needs to just say sense said of [TS]

01:39:01   course you can turn his offer of course [TS]

01:39:02   it only works on X my situations but [TS]

01:39:04   instead they said nothing and just [TS]

01:39:05   presented as look isn't this great when [TS]

01:39:08   you pick it up before you hit the button [TS]

01:39:10   that says yes except this video call [TS]

01:39:12   you're already seeing video from them is [TS]

01:39:13   like no no one thought about it for two [TS]

01:39:15   seconds that's terrible [TS]

01:39:16   unless unless there's some kind of [TS]

01:39:18   limitations and i'm not sure what they [TS]

01:39:20   are still not sure what service [TS]

01:39:21   Casey I was calling each other and we [TS]

01:39:23   don't care yeah but i don't think i saw [TS]

01:39:27   you before I agree to the call i thought [TS]

01:39:29   that feature was android only what is it [TS]

01:39:31   said there was a thing that came up on [TS]

01:39:33   my screen that I thought well I tapped [TS]

01:39:35   in like like a typical computers you tap [TS]

01:39:37   it away before you agree the thing it [TS]

01:39:38   was like oh [TS]

01:39:39   keep in mind that you're going to be [TS]

01:39:40   anybody it was that okay no it was the [TS]

01:39:41   button was like okay got it now [TS]

01:39:43   unfortunately try this like just before [TS]

01:39:44   we came on to get your phone with no [TS]

01:39:47   it's alright i'll try right now here we [TS]

01:39:48   go [TS]

01:39:49   I'm gonna do your little alright so do [TS]

01:39:52   you want my phone do all my phone to be [TS]

01:39:53   a lot to be locked to be in the duo app [TS]

01:39:56   how do you want to do this doesn't [TS]

01:39:58   matter I video call go to you on the [TS]

01:40:02   phone okay incoming call from Syracuse [TS]

01:40:05   is a notification and come okay i do see [TS]

01:40:07   you see me there but before you hit [TS]

01:40:09   except god oh god sorry no i did not see [TS]

01:40:13   before him except i thought i was muted [TS]

01:40:15   what the hell's a settings [TS]

01:40:18   knock knock on it that's what I'm [TS]

01:40:21   talking about now yeah i was gonna be [TS]

01:40:23   trouble let me tell you don't enjoy it [TS]

01:40:24   accepts all right that we are you [TS]

01:40:26   calling me or by calling you you can [TS]

01:40:28   call me sir [TS]

01:40:28   all right let me try calling [TS]

01:40:29   communication smile knocks on alright [TS]

01:40:33   gotta say that's the thing is saying [TS]

01:40:34   doing your smile your video and yeah I [TS]

01:40:36   see you right now and i have not had [TS]

01:40:37   except oh then i might get a little [TS]

01:40:39   decline i can hit decline or accept i'm [TS]

01:40:41   going to decline you [TS]

01:40:43   well i will then we go the other way one [TS]

01:40:47   more time I want to see this now [TS]

01:40:49   yeah so the future all exist here we go [TS]

01:40:51   this is super into interesting [TS]

01:40:54   ok so i can see you right now you can't [TS]

01:40:56   see me nope [TS]

01:40:58   how interesting I'm declining you [TS]

01:41:00   because now being so this is the exact [TS]

01:41:01   feature we were talking about the fact [TS]

01:41:02   that my mistake my mistake before casey [TS]

01:41:05   had decided whether you want to accept [TS]

01:41:06   this call he's forced to see me and [TS]

01:41:08   they're that's the the feature is called [TS]

01:41:11   knocking I think if you turn that [TS]

01:41:12   setting off but would you know anyway i [TS]

01:41:14   mostly want to use it just to see how [TS]

01:41:15   they compare to facetime because that's [TS]

01:41:17   the roll this thing it's basically [TS]

01:41:18   cross-platform facetime if you can't do [TS]

01:41:20   face time with your relatives because [TS]

01:41:21   they all have android phones because you [TS]

01:41:22   have an android phone and they have [TS]

01:41:24   iphones or whatever if everybody gets [TS]

01:41:26   google duo then you can do essentially [TS]

01:41:28   the same stuff as space-time across [TS]

01:41:31   platforms that worrying about getting [TS]

01:41:33   everyone in your family to use iPhones [TS]

01:41:34   are getting everyone in your family to [TS]

01:41:35   use android or whatever the predecessor [TS]

01:41:37   up to this was if there was one so i [TS]

01:41:39   think that's good [TS]

01:41:40   the brief time that we used it the one [TS]

01:41:42   feature that was annoying both of us was [TS]

01:41:43   that the little window that shows you [TS]

01:41:46   like [TS]

01:41:46   show yourself like this is what the [TS]

01:41:48   other person is seeing right now it is [TS]

01:41:50   cropped to a circle which is infuriating [TS]

01:41:52   because of all the things were showing [TS]

01:41:54   each other i was trying to show him like [TS]

01:41:55   my files box in the basement you're [TS]

01:41:57   comparing our BIOS boxes this is the [TS]

01:41:59   Savannah Georgia [TS]

01:42:00   anyway I couldn't tell I couldn't tell [TS]

01:42:03   the whole files box was in the frame [TS]

01:42:04   because I had I was holding my phone in [TS]

01:42:06   portrait orientation because that's [TS]

01:42:08   basically the orientation of the files [TS]

01:42:09   box and I want to get the whole thing in [TS]

01:42:10   the shot but because the preview is [TS]

01:42:12   circular I could never tell if it was [TS]

01:42:14   entirely in the frame that you can tap [TS]

01:42:16   the circle which switches it and now all [TS]

01:42:18   of a sudden the the video i'm sending [TS]

01:42:20   takes up my whole phone and Casey's [TS]

01:42:22   video is in the tiny little circle and [TS]

01:42:24   that helps me frame things but it's not [TS]

01:42:25   really improvement now he's in a little [TS]

01:42:27   circle and I want to see him so I feel [TS]

01:42:28   like this is a softball [TS]

01:42:29   them make the preview of the video the [TS]

01:42:31   other person is seen the same aspect [TS]

01:42:33   ratio and like show the full image so i [TS]

01:42:36   know what the the frame batteries are [TS]

01:42:37   because the circles like I was looking [TS]

01:42:39   through a little porthole and you [TS]

01:42:40   currently trying to like make sure he [TS]

01:42:42   was seeing the whole thing but other [TS]

01:42:43   than that the video quality look good we [TS]

01:42:46   didn't have any disconnections at work [TS]

01:42:47   find the little ringtone you kind of [TS]

01:42:49   hurt over microphone depending on how [TS]

01:42:50   much marco and it's out [TS]

01:42:52   sounds nice and pleasant so I mostly [TS]

01:42:53   good duo thumbs up except for the [TS]

01:42:55   knockout feature being on by default and [TS]

01:42:57   possibly existing at all and the [TS]

01:42:59   circular profit [TS]

01:43:00   I didn't think it was won by default i [TS]

01:43:02   thought i had to turn it on maybe i'm [TS]

01:43:04   wrong about that but i thought yeah i [TS]

01:43:05   think maybe on first launched it says [TS]

01:43:07   that little like I said the thing that I [TS]

01:43:08   swept away without even looking at it [TS]

01:43:09   the thing I hit up was like okay got it [TS]

01:43:12   i think it was telling you about knock [TS]

01:43:13   knock just so you're aware it's not [TS]

01:43:15   connecting is on i think the only option [TS]

01:43:17   was ok got it but I can't go through the [TS]

01:43:19   first launch will do i what i saw was [TS]

01:43:21   what you saw because i had only received [TS]

01:43:22   a call I'd not placed one and it was [TS]

01:43:25   just telling you hey right now you're [TS]

01:43:27   actually visible so you know don't do [TS]

01:43:29   anything stupid but I had thought in [TS]

01:43:32   settings where there is absolutely a [TS]

01:43:34   switch to flip for knock knock on or off [TS]

01:43:37   I thought I'd expressly going in there [TS]

01:43:39   and turned it on but if you don't [TS]

01:43:40   remember doing that perhaps i'm [TS]

01:43:42   remembering right now I don't I [TS]

01:43:43   definitely didn't do that is first time [TS]

01:43:45   actually we should see so turn knock [TS]

01:43:47   knock off on your end and then i'm going [TS]

01:43:48   to call you one more time because i [TS]

01:43:49   think the setting applies to your end [TS]

01:43:51   we're going home [TS]

01:43:52   I mean it's only yeah that's evidence [TS]

01:43:55   knock knock don't you wish you hadn't [TS]

01:43:57   told Margo I'm so upset that i missed [TS]

01:44:00   this [TS]

01:44:00   ok i am prepared for you to knock on me [TS]

01:44:03   what did you just didn't listen to [TS]

01:44:04   Instagram story when you introduced I [TS]

01:44:06   think mr. I'm story that the the [TS]

01:44:08   screenshot of your windows thing that [TS]

01:44:10   booting yeah okay i do i'm getting an [TS]

01:44:11   incoming video call i see nothing I just [TS]

01:44:13   see a screen [TS]

01:44:14   yeah so that so basically you're [TS]

01:44:16   controlling and not what you said but [TS]

01:44:17   what you receive yeah okay so wait so [TS]

01:44:19   with me having knock knock off i'm now [TS]

01:44:22   going to call you can you see me at this [TS]

01:44:25   point I'm twisting my phone back and [TS]

01:44:27   forth just to show you that something is [TS]

01:44:28   moving [TS]

01:44:29   no and in fact the dish was a blank [TS]

01:44:31   screen like yeah that's basically what I [TS]

01:44:33   saw [TS]

01:44:33   so apparently if either of us was [TS]

01:44:35   knocked off then don't have it doesn't [TS]

01:44:38   happen yeah so we just need to have that [TS]

01:44:40   off by default or mean make people more [TS]

01:44:43   aware of their first launcher anyway who [TS]

01:44:45   knows I've had regular people won't mind [TS]

01:44:48   but it just seems like you won't mind [TS]

01:44:49   until the first time you do mind and [TS]

01:44:50   then you like a better [TS]

01:44:54   did you know did it quiz you after the [TS]

01:44:57   fact as to whether or not the call was [TS]

01:45:00   good did you notice that I did not kiss [TS]

01:45:02   me no quizzes [TS]

01:45:03   oh interesting i got on mine order to [TS]

01:45:07   say one second i took a screenshot of it [TS]

01:45:10   this is a terrible screenshot that I [TS]

01:45:12   won't be able to put the show notes cuz [TS]

01:45:13   I look like an idiot but how the call [TS]

01:45:15   quality skip unhappy face bad or happy [TS]

01:45:18   face good actually i'll take it I'll [TS]

01:45:20   crop just that little dialogue but that [TS]

01:45:22   show notes and I skip this entire topic [TS]

01:45:24   no I put on a happy face on it if you'd [TS]

01:45:27   like or you could do you know what you [TS]

01:45:29   should do is also i will put this this [TS]

01:45:32   image in the show notes and you can just [TS]

01:45:34   like sketch red circle the bad one [TS]

01:45:37   how about that is that what that means [TS]

01:45:39   but it was able to pinpoint now forget [TS]

01:45:42   we've been using we've been talking [TS]

01:45:44   about this for a minute and a half we [TS]

01:45:45   talked about photography for 20 minutes [TS]

01:45:47   more than that and you're already [TS]

01:45:49   getting grumbly he doesn't have [TS]

01:45:51   installed should have been stolen right [TS]

01:45:52   now you're gonna get like us it's so far [TS]

01:45:56   you you have not given a ringing [TS]

01:45:57   endorsement in my opinion do you have [TS]

01:45:59   family that doesn't have iphones that [TS]

01:46:00   you would like to face time with no see [TS]

01:46:03   that's the thing that we do you have as [TS]

01:46:05   I've talked about many times in the past [TS]

01:46:07   my whole family is all iOS errands whole [TS]

01:46:09   family except aaron is all android and [TS]

01:46:12   there have been times that we would [TS]

01:46:14   really like to video chat with Aaron's [TS]

01:46:17   mom or actually my grandmother has a [TS]

01:46:20   some sort of android phone that's I [TS]

01:46:23   believe expressly designed for senior [TS]

01:46:25   citizens so there's I think had the [TS]

01:46:27   whatever physical buttons are on their [TS]

01:46:29   very large and and I think that it's [TS]

01:46:31   it's been sent over simplified and all [TS]

01:46:33   the fonts are gigantic by default [TS]

01:46:35   anyway uh next time I'm around her I [TS]

01:46:38   hope I will be able to put [TS]

01:46:40   duo on her phone even those ancient and [TS]

01:46:43   then we would be able to video chat with [TS]

01:46:45   her it's not a jitterbug but it's along [TS]

01:46:46   those lines just get an ipad I've [TS]

01:46:49   thought about it but I don't know it's [TS]

01:46:51   just one more thing for her manage sorry [TS]

01:46:53   I so i'm i'm excited about this i [TS]

01:46:55   completely agree with John that the [TS]

01:46:57   circular little porthole into yourself [TS]

01:47:00   is freaking terrible i do like that you [TS]

01:47:03   can tap into your own image and bring it [TS]

01:47:06   up full screen like John it said because [TS]

01:47:07   there's been times I've wanted to do [TS]

01:47:08   that facetime and I can't it handled [TS]

01:47:10   rotation just like FaceTime does which [TS]

01:47:12   is a good thing that's a compliment and [TS]

01:47:15   the video quality was great [TS]

01:47:16   dials instantly when I was [TS]

01:47:19   video-chatting with John on the show [TS]

01:47:21   moments ago it seemed like there was [TS]

01:47:22   very very low latency and if all good my [TS]

01:47:26   book I i approve but i would certainly [TS]

01:47:29   use facetime by as my default modus [TS]

01:47:33   operandi and then if for some reason i [TS]

01:47:35   need to video shows an Android user then [TS]

01:47:37   that's what do I was four I just get [TS]

01:47:40   different friends know it's only a [TS]

01:47:42   different family too and I try to keep [TS]

01:47:44   you can you can pick your nose you can [TS]

01:47:47   become less pounds now you're gonna keep [TS]

01:47:50   my phone because I keep all sorts of [TS]

01:47:51   apps on iphone i really do through and [TS]

01:47:52   clean stuff out but that I'll probably [TS]

01:47:54   keep it cool [TS]
