185: The Delaware of Europe

00:00:00   it's been a long time it has Pence [TS]

00:00:02   surprisingly long time it was like two [TS]

00:00:04   weeks ago right [TS]

00:00:05   yes it was the 18 so it's two weeks and [TS]

00:00:08   a day Wow am I missed you guys a lot has [TS]

00:00:12   happened in the meantime chiefly that I [TS]

00:00:14   determined that i like the beach now [TS]

00:00:16   funny how that is we should we should [TS]

00:00:17   actually examine that how old are you [TS]

00:00:20   now that it took so long [TS]

00:00:22   well before you beat up on Marco I was [TS]

00:00:25   lucky that i just discovered i like the [TS]

00:00:27   beach about two to three years and then [TS]

00:00:28   maybe three years ago so apparently mark [TS]

00:00:31   and I are equally slow on this [TS]

00:00:33   realization i don't know what's wrong [TS]

00:00:35   with you guys [TS]

00:00:35   how so how many times did you have to [TS]

00:00:38   rent a house on the beach for a few days [TS]

00:00:40   to like it [TS]

00:00:42   I actually would say the first time we [TS]

00:00:45   did that i liked it but but it is [TS]

00:00:48   important to note that I was well into [TS]

00:00:50   adulthood at this point and i don't [TS]

00:00:52   remember it was it with you guys i was [TS]

00:00:54   discussing this might have been on the [TS]

00:00:55   post-show but the pop-up what they call [TS]

00:00:58   them like awnings are not wanting shoot [TS]

00:01:00   after they call them umbrellas you push [TS]

00:01:02   the middle and the you-know-where tent [TS]

00:01:04   the little 10 thingies [TS]

00:01:05   yes like a tent but it's just the roof [TS]

00:01:07   part of the tent so it's like a big [TS]

00:01:08   square that's like yeah we saw a picture [TS]

00:01:10   of your thing that you should never ever [TS]

00:01:12   bring on a beach [TS]

00:01:13   why because this is not a thing design [TS]

00:01:15   that's for like having like a catered [TS]

00:01:18   outdoor wedding [TS]

00:01:19   oh yeah mostly not from breaking on the [TS]

00:01:20   beach instant canopy is apparently what [TS]

00:01:23   is officially called do not bring it to [TS]

00:01:25   the beach you know if you want a lot of [TS]

00:01:28   shade from the Sun which is what i want [TS]

00:01:31   when i go to the beach [TS]

00:01:32   that's perfect way to do it well but add [TS]

00:01:33   disqus I'm those those tend to have a [TS]

00:01:35   pretty poor shade to weight ratio there [TS]

00:01:38   they're also yeah yeah the amount of [TS]

00:01:39   shade they provide we we got we had a a [TS]

00:01:43   very large kind of extended umbrella [TS]

00:01:46   like the idea you put it like diagonally [TS]

00:01:48   down like the polls running diagonally [TS]

00:01:49   the one in the sand and then the other [TS]

00:01:51   side kind of resting on the sand but it [TS]

00:01:54   has like extra-long flaps on two sides [TS]

00:01:56   so it kind of makes like a tent but [TS]

00:01:59   that's open on one side so you get a ton [TS]

00:02:02   of shade in the total weight of an [TS]

00:02:04   umbrella so it's pretty that was pretty [TS]

00:02:05   awesome [TS]

00:02:06   yeah that works out nicely I've seen [TS]

00:02:08   things like that so yeah so to go back a [TS]

00:02:10   half step so the first time we rented a [TS]

00:02:12   house that [TS]

00:02:13   I will that I participated in any way we [TS]

00:02:15   had one of these instant canopies the [TS]

00:02:17   point is not as much the instant can be [TS]

00:02:19   just canopy just the fact that their [TS]

00:02:21   shade [TS]

00:02:22   however you decide to get your shade [TS]

00:02:23   umbrella 10t thing instant canopy [TS]

00:02:25   doesn't matter the shade indoor its own [TS]

00:02:27   independent so we had shade i had i [TS]

00:02:32   think the first year I when I read ready [TS]

00:02:33   player one and don't listen to what John [TS]

00:02:35   says about ready player wants a great [TS]

00:02:37   book i also have booze and that [TS]

00:02:39   combination really worked out nicely for [TS]

00:02:42   me and ever since then I've found that [TS]

00:02:45   if i shade and a book or a you know iOS [TS]

00:02:50   device with the internet connection and [TS]

00:02:53   I don't even need booze anymore although [TS]

00:02:54   it helps its it actually is not too bad [TS]

00:02:57   experience so what turn the corner for [TS]

00:02:59   you Marco what what made you decide this [TS]

00:03:00   is not so bad [TS]

00:03:01   so last year we went to the same place [TS]

00:03:04   fire island we spent five days they're [TS]

00:03:07   so part of the problem was that i was [TS]

00:03:10   really sick for them for most of that [TS]

00:03:12   time so I wasn't really able to fully [TS]

00:03:14   enjoy the time this year we were there [TS]

00:03:16   for seven or eight days eight days and I [TS]

00:03:19   was not sick so even last year the [TS]

00:03:22   shorter time and being fairly [TS]

00:03:24   uncomfortable most of the time I still [TS]

00:03:26   enjoyed it last year I still enjoyed the [TS]

00:03:28   place i enjoyed walking around because [TS]

00:03:30   while I don't really care for the actual [TS]

00:03:33   beach itself very much i do like the the [TS]

00:03:37   ocean breeze the air i do like the the [TS]

00:03:40   beach town and Firearms pretty awesome [TS]

00:03:42   that you kind of walk around everywhere [TS]

00:03:44   there's no cars and everything is really [TS]

00:03:45   kind of tightly packed on this little [TS]

00:03:47   tiny strip violin so everything's very [TS]

00:03:48   walkable and so I really enjoyed that [TS]

00:03:51   part of it last year but just it was it [TS]

00:03:54   was hard to really enjoy the whole trip [TS]

00:03:56   because of my condition but this year I [TS]

00:03:58   spent a little more time on the actual [TS]

00:03:59   beach this year and I kind of learned [TS]

00:04:02   how to make it work for me a little bit [TS]

00:04:04   i still don't love like being in the sun [TS]

00:04:07   or going in the water or eating seafood [TS]

00:04:08   but i found ways to enjoy myself on the [TS]

00:04:13   actual beach and then because we were [TS]

00:04:15   there for longer and I was feeling [TS]

00:04:16   better this year i greatly enjoyed the [TS]

00:04:18   rest of the town and the weekend the [TS]

00:04:19   environment as well so basically i [TS]

00:04:23   really enjoyed it quite a bit and and [TS]

00:04:25   and like a [TS]

00:04:26   days was enough time I feel like if [TS]

00:04:29   you're if you're somewhere for it for [TS]

00:04:31   like three to five days you kind of were [TS]

00:04:33   still in vacation like sightseeing kind [TS]

00:04:36   of metallic active mode the whole time [TS]

00:04:37   and there's a certain threshold which i [TS]

00:04:40   think i passed this trip where like if [TS]

00:04:42   you somewhere for long enough you can [TS]

00:04:43   start living there [TS]

00:04:45   does that make sense it does actually i [TS]

00:04:47   dunno what you're saying like you can [TS]

00:04:48   let you can get into a different mode [TS]

00:04:50   with okay now this is just like what [TS]

00:04:51   it's like to live here basically for a [TS]

00:04:52   short time as opposed to like being like [TS]

00:04:54   active doing stuff vacation mode you [TS]

00:04:58   know the whole time so i got a brief a [TS]

00:05:00   brief sense of that like living mode and [TS]

00:05:02   I really enjoyed it [TS]

00:05:04   so what made the beach itself bearable [TS]

00:05:07   that like I had said that you know in [TS]

00:05:09   the past having booze in a book and I [TS]

00:05:11   should actually elaborate that having [TS]

00:05:12   Declan their particular reason it and [TS]

00:05:14   then positive mood which is usually [TS]

00:05:16   that's also just tremendously fun what [TS]

00:05:18   turned the corner for you on the beach [TS]

00:05:19   specifically also part of it was that [TS]

00:05:21   you know part of it was that the entire [TS]

00:05:23   family really enjoys it so everyone's [TS]

00:05:25   happy everyone's having fun just always [TS]

00:05:27   like stuff to do nobody's ever bored I'm [TS]

00:05:29   so that's really nice but also you know [TS]

00:05:31   I just kind of figured out like how to [TS]

00:05:32   sit in the shade for a little bit this [TS]

00:05:35   year I've kind of I don't know if this [TS]

00:05:37   is a good thing or a bad thing it's [TS]

00:05:39   probably some of both but I'm finally [TS]

00:05:42   learning how to be able to turn my brain [TS]

00:05:46   off for more than like 20 minutes at a [TS]

00:05:48   time like in the sense that i'm able to [TS]

00:05:50   like relax and not wish i was sitting at [TS]

00:05:54   a computer getting stuff done all the [TS]

00:05:56   time and this this could be dangerous [TS]

00:05:58   like this could go too far and I never [TS]

00:06:00   want to work again i think i'm going to [TS]

00:06:03   try to get a better balance of that and [TS]

00:06:05   so I kind of got that this year where I [TS]

00:06:08   like last year because i was pretty sick [TS]

00:06:11   and it was a shorter time and I was [TS]

00:06:13   right in the middle of trying to write [TS]

00:06:15   piece last year actually worked a lot on [TS]

00:06:17   that trip I mostly like state back the [TS]

00:06:19   house and everyone to the beach and I [TS]

00:06:20   mainly for my laptop this year I brought [TS]

00:06:24   all my work with me I thought get a lot [TS]

00:06:27   done and I got almost nothing done they [TS]

00:06:29   would like shockingly little considering [TS]

00:06:32   like out how much i get done last year [TS]

00:06:34   versus this year so I kind of learned [TS]

00:06:36   how to take a vacation and it was to the [TS]

00:06:39   point where like I want to [TS]

00:06:40   i'm home i really missed it which has [TS]

00:06:42   never ever happened with any vacation [TS]

00:06:44   ever taken [TS]

00:06:45   that's also every every occasion ever [TS]

00:06:46   take when i get home i can't thank God [TS]

00:06:48   home i can get back to everything this [TS]

00:06:49   time I was like online i miss vacation [TS]

00:06:51   anyway so I'm broken forever how are you [TS]

00:06:54   guys [TS]

00:06:55   well I'm waiting for john to to [TS]

00:06:58   completely obliterate us for having just [TS]

00:07:01   realized that the beach is a thing and [TS]

00:07:03   you've been distressingly quiet John so [TS]

00:07:05   tell us what what do you have to say [TS]

00:07:07   about the beach i love it like it it's [TS]

00:07:09   extra insulting that i'm also going to [TS]

00:07:11   fire island which I'm pretty sure is [TS]

00:07:12   where John has gone for beaches for [TS]

00:07:14   years now I'm gonna fire around but I go [TS]

00:07:16   the butterflies and I i don't think i [TS]

00:07:18   think i have to add is that I have not [TS]

00:07:20   wanted to work and love the beach since [TS]

00:07:22   I was a single digit that way ahead of [TS]

00:07:25   you you just now getting to the point [TS]

00:07:27   where you don't want to work and love [TS]

00:07:28   the beach congratulations [TS]

00:07:30   they think they're pretty much the rest [TS]

00:07:32   of the human race his wish [TS]

00:07:34   yeah you can I curve that's what [TS]

00:07:36   everybody wants to do is not work and go [TS]

00:07:38   to the beach and you're just like you [TS]

00:07:39   know what the beach is fun working sucks [TS]

00:07:42   turns out hey I never knew so there's a [TS]

00:07:45   few ways actually in many ways in which [TS]

00:07:47   i am a terrible geek by typical geek [TS]

00:07:50   standards one of those things i don't [TS]

00:07:52   like anime or star trek or fantasy like [TS]

00:07:56   Lord of the Rings type stuff you don't [TS]

00:07:58   know you don't like anime ok and so [TS]

00:08:02   anyway I think in this way John I think [TS]

00:08:04   you're a bad geek i think most geeks [TS]

00:08:06   will have the problem that I've had [TS]

00:08:08   forever which is not really being able [TS]

00:08:10   to turn my brain off for more than like [TS]

00:08:12   a day or two without getting restless [TS]

00:08:14   no you're that mean that's not a geek [TS]

00:08:16   thing that's a workaholic thing there's [TS]

00:08:17   a difference [TS]

00:08:18   yep concur is it well I think there's a [TS]

00:08:21   lot of overlap there because like it's [TS]

00:08:23   not necessarily that I want to do [TS]

00:08:25   specific work that I want to do some [TS]

00:08:27   like I want to do something that's but [TS]

00:08:29   that's why your workaholic but I'm not [TS]

00:08:32   because I don't want to work on like you [TS]

00:08:34   know boring stuff to get it done I want [TS]

00:08:35   to work on like weird mp3 encoder [TS]

00:08:37   install your also you're also better [TS]

00:08:39   relaxing when you're describing like I [TS]

00:08:40   felt like I got into like the vacation [TS]

00:08:42   mode where it's like you're living [TS]

00:08:43   there's like no you just finally relaxed [TS]

00:08:44   like it in the street like what Merlin [TS]

00:08:47   talks about this to like he goes on [TS]

00:08:48   vacation takes like three days to do in [TS]

00:08:50   to get into whatever mode [TS]

00:08:51   is another weird great phrase was just [TS]

00:08:53   like you have to learn how to relax and [TS]

00:08:54   that's another skill that I've always [TS]

00:08:56   been very good at I'm really good at [TS]

00:08:57   relaxing i'm an expert relaxing in fact [TS]

00:09:00   i think most people if you said starting [TS]

00:09:03   now sit on your butt and do nothing they [TS]

00:09:05   just descend into a little puddle under [TS]

00:09:07   like but some other people takes a while [TS]

00:09:09   to sort of to untie the 700 twisty ties [TS]

00:09:13   that are around their invisible twisty [TS]

00:09:15   ties that are around their brain at all [TS]

00:09:16   times and just slowly unwind and turn [TS]

00:09:19   and turn and then finally they released [TS]

00:09:21   you can go and then you go home [TS]

00:09:23   applications / yeah and I did finally I [TS]

00:09:27   was thinking of you John much of the [TS]

00:09:29   time because as i was trying to like [TS]

00:09:31   manage having a big camera and my phone [TS]

00:09:33   at the beach of course sand is [TS]

00:09:36   everywhere sand in my pockets you know [TS]

00:09:39   what else in people's pockets sand like [TS]

00:09:40   that i was thinking of you and your [TS]

00:09:42   quotes from this show going back years [TS]

00:09:44   of you everytime out of the exact doing [TS]

00:09:47   something bad so how did your dad your [TS]

00:09:50   big fancy camera fair and the hostile [TS]

00:09:51   environment of the beach very well [TS]

00:09:53   actually [TS]

00:09:54   iid funnily enough I did appreciate when [TS]

00:09:58   I had the slightly longer lens on it [TS]

00:10:01   I mean I brought the my brother 35 and [TS]

00:10:04   55 primes and the the 35 pictures were [TS]

00:10:09   decent but I I was happier in general [TS]

00:10:11   255 pictures so i got a lot of amazing [TS]

00:10:15   pictures and just destroyed my laptop [TS]

00:10:17   trying to process them in Lightroom on [TS]

00:10:19   battery which is hilarious but so how [TS]

00:10:21   far how far you out in the water with [TS]

00:10:23   the expensive camera like ankles knees [TS]

00:10:26   well i was i was still in the wave zone [TS]

00:10:29   so like not necessarily a fixed depth [TS]

00:10:32   but at the the closest i would let it [TS]

00:10:35   get was like like the bottom of my [TS]

00:10:37   shorts like once I was that deep i would [TS]

00:10:39   hold the camera up with my head if it [TS]

00:10:41   was a big wave coming in or like the end [TS]

00:10:44   they were I think twice it got a little [TS]

00:10:46   bit of splash on it but but otherwise [TS]

00:10:48   was putting up i think for someone with [TS]

00:10:50   not a lot of beach experience I don't [TS]

00:10:52   think you realize exactly how close you [TS]

00:10:54   are that entire time to destroy your [TS]

00:10:56   camera because you're like oh you know [TS]

00:10:57   the wave comes to hold up you don't [TS]

00:10:59   realize that like all it takes is one [TS]

00:11:01   false move or not paying attention for [TS]

00:11:03   two seconds in one way that's a little [TS]

00:11:04   bit [TS]

00:11:05   getting the other ones to put your on [TS]

00:11:06   your butt and put that camera in the [TS]

00:11:08   water so I think you were pretty lucky [TS]

00:11:10   and pretty brave to go out even that [TS]

00:11:11   deep with your camera [TS]

00:11:13   I think you might be overestimating how [TS]

00:11:14   deep I was it was literally like I was [TS]

00:11:16   only in like the waves splash zone and [TS]

00:11:19   the most i got was if if the wave at [TS]

00:11:22   maximum splash was tall enough to get [TS]

00:11:25   the bottom of my shorts wet [TS]

00:11:26   yeah those waves they look pretty [TS]

00:11:28   small-time a few pictures you have but [TS]

00:11:29   you haven't liked you [TS]

00:11:30   if the water is touching your bathing [TS]

00:11:32   suit yeah you think I'm fine right [TS]

00:11:34   especially because when the big one [TS]

00:11:35   comes the so much water will go out but [TS]

00:11:37   it will just be barely touching your [TS]

00:11:38   ankles and take two steps in and the big [TS]

00:11:40   one comes in and pay attention [TS]

00:11:41   sprüche anyway I'm glad you you dodged [TS]

00:11:45   the bullet and managed to keep your [TS]

00:11:48   camera live and take some good pictures [TS]

00:11:50   yeah they really got a lot of great [TS]

00:11:51   pictures and I spent a lot of time just [TS]

00:11:53   like picking through them and bloody [TS]

00:11:54   processing them posing for some [TS]

00:11:55   instagram and i finally started I think [TS]

00:11:58   I'm kind of getting the vacation is [TS]

00:11:59   about funnily enough though every time I [TS]

00:12:02   take a vacation where I have my giant [TS]

00:12:05   15-inch macbook pro i'm so happy i have [TS]

00:12:09   that 15-inch macbook pro and not [TS]

00:12:11   anything smaller or weaker is like the [TS]

00:12:13   things I do in vacation like either i [TS]

00:12:16   need nothing from it or I need all the [TS]

00:12:19   power and screens because i can get so [TS]

00:12:21   my my previously stated plans about [TS]

00:12:23   maybe going to a 13 macbook pro in the [TS]

00:12:25   new ones come out those plans are out [TS]

00:12:28   the window [TS]

00:12:28   I'm going to either keep what I have to [TS]

00:12:30   get the new 15 yeah I honestly don't [TS]

00:12:32   understand how anyone who doesn't travel [TS]

00:12:35   for a living has anything smaller than a [TS]

00:12:38   15-inch laptop like I typically do not [TS]

00:12:42   use my work laptop at home and it's [TS]

00:12:45   always clamshell dat work and whether or [TS]

00:12:48   not you think that's a smart choice [TS]

00:12:49   whatever but the point is I very rarely [TS]

00:12:51   use the screen on the laptop but every [TS]

00:12:54   time I do I couldn't agree with you more [TS]

00:12:57   I don't understand how anyone could do [TS]

00:12:59   anything productive with less real [TS]

00:13:01   estate again if you're like traveling [TS]

00:13:03   professionally totally get that but for [TS]

00:13:05   regular humans of 15 all the way oh yeah [TS]

00:13:08   i mean it and like I had tweeted the [TS]

00:13:10   other day i'm pissed everybody off where [TS]

00:13:13   I said basically like as as using my [TS]

00:13:15   laptop like the things i want our [TS]

00:13:18   better battery and faster thing I don't [TS]

00:13:20   really care about is make it a like [TS]

00:13:23   fifteen percent lighter i think i think [TS]

00:13:24   whatever whatever measure right i used [TS]

00:13:27   and it's got a lot of people angry they [TS]

00:13:29   were saying I where I walk with mine to [TS]

00:13:31   work every day blah blah and I would [TS]

00:13:33   love for to be fifteen percent lighter [TS]

00:13:34   and i get that x is that too is that for [TS]

00:13:37   years and the majority of the time of [TS]

00:13:39   tumblr i was walking with laptop in a [TS]

00:13:40   bag pretty far every day and most of the [TS]

00:13:43   time with 15-inch and this was back when [TS]

00:13:45   the 15-inch was like five point seven [TS]

00:13:46   pounds now I think they're 4.5 and [TS]

00:13:48   probably about to get lighter so like I [TS]

00:13:51   I know what that's like [TS]

00:13:53   and in fact much of the time i also had [TS]

00:13:54   an SLR and a couple links in the bed [TS]

00:13:56   with his wife Alex was not kind of my [TS]

00:13:58   shoulders so I i get that if you're [TS]

00:14:01   walking with it back and forth that does [TS]

00:14:03   that does you know that the total weight [TS]

00:14:05   of it does matter however when you get [TS]

00:14:08   down to like you have like already a [TS]

00:14:10   four-and-a-half or whatever pound laptop [TS]

00:14:12   if the weight savings brings it down [TS]

00:14:14   like let's say it's a pretty good saving [TS]

00:14:16   let's say it goes from four and a half [TS]

00:14:17   pounds 24 pounds that's a pretty [TS]

00:14:19   substantial savings in the world of like [TS]

00:14:20   you know laptop upgrades basically [TS]

00:14:22   suppose a blow out of the water somehow [TS]

00:14:25   I think it's unrealistic but let's say [TS]

00:14:26   to go to three-and-a-half let's shave a [TS]

00:14:28   whole pound off it again I think it's [TS]

00:14:30   unrealistic but if they do that the [TS]

00:14:32   total weight of the bag you're carrying [TS]

00:14:34   is probably like 15 pounds like people [TS]

00:14:37   carry a lot of stuff in their bag the [TS]

00:14:38   bag itself weighs a lot [TS]

00:14:40   empty if you're carrying a power adapter [TS]

00:14:42   or not that's like another like almost [TS]

00:14:43   pounds eight people carry so much that [TS]

00:14:46   if you really really need to save half a [TS]

00:14:49   pound or one pound in the carry weight [TS]

00:14:51   of your bag there are probably many [TS]

00:14:53   other ways you can do that and if you're [TS]

00:14:55   carrying enough stuff [TS]

00:14:56   you actually might not quite notice that [TS]

00:14:59   very much like it so basically i think [TS]

00:15:02   people when when they speculate on how [TS]

00:15:04   much they need laptop weight savings in [TS]

00:15:07   these little increments [TS]

00:15:08   I think that might be overestimating how [TS]

00:15:10   much they would actually notice that in [TS]

00:15:12   practice how much different it would [TS]

00:15:13   actually make in practice and ignoring [TS]

00:15:15   ways that you could say that not in some [TS]

00:15:17   other way so for example like one of the [TS]

00:15:20   ways i save weight when I was walking to [TS]

00:15:21   and from work with laptops everyday is [TS]

00:15:23   actually got a second power adapter and [TS]

00:15:25   kept one at work so I never had a power [TS]

00:15:27   adapter in my bag up and that alone at [TS]

00:15:30   these are you know this with 15-inch day [TS]

00:15:31   so that's it [TS]

00:15:32   the pound right the hair you know like [TS]

00:15:34   simple stuff like that and you know if [TS]

00:15:36   you carry you know a an ipad and maybe [TS]

00:15:39   don't need you don't care the keyboard [TS]

00:15:40   like their stuff like that like there's [TS]

00:15:42   there are ways you can you can either [TS]

00:15:44   spend a bit of money to have some [TS]

00:15:46   redundancy on both ends and things like [TS]

00:15:48   power adapters or accessories or just [TS]

00:15:50   make some tough decisions about do i [TS]

00:15:52   really need to carry this thing if [TS]

00:15:54   Carrie it's a big problem i highly [TS]

00:15:55   suggest using a backpack and not a [TS]

00:15:57   messenger bag like there's lots of other [TS]

00:15:59   ways you can do this that will have way [TS]

00:16:00   larger effects then if your laptop alone [TS]

00:16:03   with no other changes got fifteen [TS]

00:16:05   percent lighter agree all right we [TS]

00:16:09   should probably do a little bit of [TS]

00:16:11   follow-up now that were 20 that program [TS]

00:16:13   is a little I'd like to start with a [TS]

00:16:18   couple of notes first of all I have [TS]

00:16:21   returned my 32 gigs of ram i have i have [TS]

00:16:25   received 32 replacement gigs of ram and [TS]

00:16:29   my uptime is currently nine days are you [TS]

00:16:31   plug into the UPS yes I am okay and I'm [TS]

00:16:35   expecting the google apps are you [TS]

00:16:38   recording in mob format i am recording [TS]

00:16:41   every freakin format and his son what [TS]

00:16:43   color are your recording in here [TS]

00:16:44   regarding mob is not even how you [TS]

00:16:47   pronounce the company [TS]

00:16:50   oh my goodness but anyway but as I've [TS]

00:16:54   nine days sometimes so far we'll see if [TS]

00:16:56   it continues of course now i have [TS]

00:16:58   several system updates I've been putting [TS]

00:17:00   off for my testing purposes so please [TS]

00:17:02   don't have me but so far so good as i [TS]

00:17:05   knock very quietly on wood moving on I i [TS]

00:17:10   have not yet looked at the reddit [TS]

00:17:12   because i don't really go to read it [TS]

00:17:14   ever and i haven't been trolling their [TS]

00:17:17   mentions because i haven't had the time [TS]

00:17:18   nor the inclination [TS]

00:17:20   however if the entire internet isn't [TS]

00:17:22   beating the piss out of hello internet [TS]

00:17:25   for issuing an episode on vinyl then i [TS]

00:17:27   give up because i paid the price for [TS]

00:17:30   saying that vinyl may not be an [TS]

00:17:32   embarrassment for months and here it is [TS]

00:17:36   they're releasing an entire special [TS]

00:17:37   episode of Hello internet on vinyl if [TS]

00:17:41   all of you jerks aren't going after they [TS]

00:17:43   really i didn't even know this is going [TS]

00:17:45   to [TS]

00:17:45   ok if all of my jokes are going after [TS]

00:17:46   them like you went after me then I'm [TS]

00:17:48   sorely disappointed because they deserve [TS]

00:17:51   it you shouldn't be because they're [TS]

00:17:52   doing it as a joke get it's funny and on [TS]

00:17:55   the show where they talk about it they [TS]

00:17:56   both it they throw in a few digs at the [TS]

00:17:59   people who think vinyl sounds better [TS]

00:18:00   haha those people were they thinking [TS]

00:18:02   right like so they're on there on the [TS]

00:18:04   right side there on the on this whole [TS]

00:18:06   thing and the whole idea is that it's [TS]

00:18:07   silly in the joke the entire thing is a [TS]

00:18:09   joke so why would people make fun if [TS]

00:18:11   they had released and said finally [TS]

00:18:13   people can listen to our voices and [TS]

00:18:14   higher fidelity format then people would [TS]

00:18:16   be on them believe me that's not what [TS]

00:18:18   they said [TS]

00:18:19   I'll i wonder like how many people who [TS]

00:18:21   saw this is this is apparently extremely [TS]

00:18:24   sold out now how many people who buy [TS]

00:18:26   this have a way to even play it like if [TS]

00:18:28   I have discussed on the program like I [TS]

00:18:30   went here to come by it but like if if I [TS]

00:18:33   even could get myself a copy which I [TS]

00:18:35   can't right now they're sold out but if [TS]

00:18:36   i could get 1i have to like go to my [TS]

00:18:38   mom's house to go to casey's dad's house [TS]

00:18:40   to actually play it and by the way [TS]

00:18:42   because vinyl is so stupid it's only 45 [TS]

00:18:44   minutes long and flip in the middle you [TS]

00:18:48   clearly did not live through the [TS]

00:18:49   laserdisc era should use the Smart speed [TS]

00:18:52   to record it could've been more on well [TS]

00:18:56   yeah at least laces players they would a [TS]

00:18:58   most of them with with the whole head [TS]

00:19:00   would flips you didn't have to move the [TS]

00:19:01   disk but uh but yeah it's I'm glad you [TS]

00:19:04   pointed out that you'd have to go to my [TS]

00:19:05   dad's house because i I really don't [TS]

00:19:07   think most people understand that I [TS]

00:19:08   don't even have a record player i have a [TS]

00:19:10   turntable because I i don't have the [TS]

00:19:11   space nor the inclination for it but the [TS]

00:19:13   terrible [TS]

00:19:14   in any case I i backed the internet i [TS]

00:19:18   expect the internet to say hello hello [TS]

00:19:20   Internet [TS]

00:19:21   you guys are idiots because that's what [TS]

00:19:23   you did to me and I understand the [TS]

00:19:24   distinction but usually you shouldn't [TS]

00:19:26   expected you understand the joke you [TS]

00:19:28   understand that on the program they [TS]

00:19:30   directly address the thing that everyone [TS]

00:19:31   was yelling at you about it instead of [TS]

00:19:33   what you said yes sort of [TS]

00:19:36   uh-huh and I heard it I heard it but [TS]

00:19:38   anyway so yeah so all of you jerks you [TS]

00:19:41   can go after them now it can be [TS]

00:19:44   releasing episode cassette sure maybe [TS]

00:19:46   actually although you know we should do [TS]

00:19:47   many discs a track floppy disk 8-track [TS]

00:19:51   god you are old and floppy disk you're [TS]

00:19:54   not going to get a lot of state right [TS]

00:19:55   you don't have to flip that it just [TS]

00:19:56   keeps playing its true light if we [TS]

00:19:58   really crammed down the bit rate and do [TS]

00:20:00   like heaa see I'm pretty sure we can get [TS]

00:20:03   like 10 minutes on a floppy maybe I [TS]

00:20:06   should come on like 17 floppy disks [TS]

00:20:08   anybody like you do that would you [TS]

00:20:12   I remember tippy I think I've told the [TS]

00:20:13   story before with the biggest flop into [TS]

00:20:15   stories you remember the 1984 apple [TS]

00:20:18   commercial well in the early days of [TS]

00:20:20   quicktime Apple put out a quicktime [TS]

00:20:22   version of the 1984 commercial which [TS]

00:20:25   must have been like a lower resolution [TS]

00:20:27   than then Mac OS icon is today and it [TS]

00:20:31   was like with the centre-back [TS]

00:20:31   compression algorithm it looked terrible [TS]

00:20:34   and it was really small and but i was so [TS]

00:20:37   excited to have it like i had a digital [TS]

00:20:38   version of that commercial died you know [TS]

00:20:40   because back before you had a video on [TS]

00:20:42   the internet how many times as a maximum [TS]

00:20:44   had you seen the Apple 1984 commercial [TS]

00:20:47   on like on the clear awards you know [TS]

00:20:49   retrospectives and stuff like that but [TS]

00:20:51   in general you tended not to see the ad [TS]

00:20:53   anywhere you could just go look at it on [TS]

00:20:55   youtube there was no YouTube has no [TS]

00:20:56   videos finally I had a copy on video but [TS]

00:20:58   the only way i could start anywhere was [TS]

00:21:00   to put it on floppy disk because that [TS]

00:21:01   was my only rule media so i did a [TS]

00:21:03   multi-part stuffit expander archive in [TS]

00:21:06   20-25 parts and 125 floppy disks good i [TS]

00:21:11   think i still have like a rubber band [TS]

00:21:12   around the things like 25 floppy disks [TS]

00:21:14   right and I was take them but each like [TS]

00:21:16   the skin piece at a time onto like a [TS]

00:21:18   hard drive or something and then [TS]

00:21:20   reassemble them into hole then [TS]

00:21:21   decompressing I would have a tiny [TS]

00:21:23   postage stamp-sized video of this [TS]

00:21:25   commercial so my favorite sloppy the [TS]

00:21:27   story which I mentioned probably on the [TS]

00:21:29   show before was when I was kid we ran [TS]

00:21:33   os/2 at home because that work for IBM [TS]

00:21:35   and you can say a bunch of terrible [TS]

00:21:38   things about us too but in some ways was [TS]

00:21:40   superior god this doesn't sound familiar [TS]

00:21:42   halt it anyway [TS]

00:21:44   yes so let's do is the vinyl with [TS]

00:21:46   operating systems in some ways it was [TS]

00:21:48   superior but i got my hand will dad got [TS]

00:21:53   his hands on a beta of os/2 warp and [TS]

00:21:56   that thing was on i kid you not [TS]

00:21:58   something like 50 floppy disks are well [TS]

00:22:02   they were they were the you know what is [TS]

00:22:03   a three-and-a-half so they weren't [TS]

00:22:05   really floppy at that point but anyway [TS]

00:22:07   three-and-a-half-inch day they were [TS]

00:22:08   internally floppy yeah you're right and [TS]

00:22:11   so [TS]

00:22:12   I remember installing that thing took me [TS]

00:22:13   like 14 weeks because it was just sit [TS]

00:22:15   there and wait across each of these [TS]

00:22:17   discs it was ridiculous [TS]

00:22:19   see this is why I like I'm not nostalgic [TS]

00:22:22   about vinyl because I grew up with a [TS]

00:22:25   record player in the house that my mom [TS]

00:22:27   used regularly and I would occasionally [TS]

00:22:29   uses well and I like it annoyed me and I [TS]

00:22:32   grew up then you know eventually when [TS]

00:22:34   computers happened I grew up with with [TS]

00:22:36   five and a quarter and then [TS]

00:22:38   three-and-a-half inch floppy disks and [TS]

00:22:40   lived through cassette tapes before CDs [TS]

00:22:42   were thing so all these old technologies [TS]

00:22:45   like like us looking back on vinyl i [TS]

00:22:47   think is gonna be like if our children [TS]

00:22:49   when they are old enough to to become [TS]

00:22:51   their own version of hipsters when they [TS]

00:22:53   look at that age they have like a fond [TS]

00:22:56   recollections of cassette tapes even [TS]

00:22:58   like they really kind of never used them [TS]

00:22:59   and they're terrible like that I don't [TS]

00:23:04   know [TS]

00:23:04   vinyl to me is it I don't see why any [TS]

00:23:07   better than cassette tapes and cassette [TS]

00:23:08   tapes themselves are terrible and we [TS]

00:23:11   moved on and I've moved on and the world [TS]

00:23:12   has moved on and everyone's moved on [TS]

00:23:14   except Casey right so speaking of moving [TS]

00:23:18   on from old things [TS]

00:23:20   let's talk about installing operating [TS]

00:23:22   systems on one machine and then moving [TS]

00:23:24   to another [TS]

00:23:25   oh she's afraid about this a lot of [TS]

00:23:27   people are angry at Marco because all a [TS]

00:23:29   lot of Denmark's that mean things about [TS]

00:23:31   windows [TS]

00:23:33   and he was angry and now people are [TS]

00:23:34   angry that he was angry but I'm mostly [TS]

00:23:37   setting that aside because I feel like [TS]

00:23:38   Marco has taken his medicine from all [TS]

00:23:40   the windows users who have emailed him [TS]

00:23:42   to tell him what he said is wrong and i [TS]

00:23:44   don't know i have meetings about that [TS]

00:23:46   oh alright well anyway you can address [TS]

00:23:47   that the only reason i put this in here [TS]

00:23:49   is because one of one of the points that [TS]

00:23:50   was brought up in fact I brought up in [TS]

00:23:52   the program is the idea that marco was [TS]

00:23:53   going to install windows onto an [TS]

00:23:55   external drive and boot multiple [TS]

00:23:57   possibly different machines from like [TS]

00:24:00   Buddha laptop not just 25 k imax Buddha [TS]

00:24:02   laptop from it and then reinstall [TS]

00:24:04   windows when it's connected to a laptop [TS]

00:24:05   then use that same disk to boot the 5k [TS]

00:24:07   iMac which has very different hardware [TS]

00:24:09   and many windows were going to tell us [TS]

00:24:12   well why did you ever think that would [TS]

00:24:13   work and I said on the program that's a [TS]

00:24:16   bad idea for a variety of reasons but [TS]

00:24:19   it's not just as a you know Mac or Apple [TS]

00:24:22   fans might think because OS 10 is better [TS]

00:24:25   anyone knows this crappy because i was [TS]

00:24:27   ten days most mac users know you can [TS]

00:24:29   install that on a disconnected to pretty [TS]

00:24:31   much any computer and then plug it into [TS]

00:24:32   pretty much any other computer and boots [TS]

00:24:35   that computer fine [TS]

00:24:36   yeah which one person wrote in to say [TS]

00:24:38   you know Lois 10 wouldn't work that way [TS]

00:24:40   either and it yeah actually does work [TS]

00:24:41   that way the vast majority of the spin [TS]

00:24:43   and I reply to the reply to the present [TS]

00:24:45   yeah doesn't everybody here's the thing [TS]

00:24:47   alright so this is all true it does work [TS]

00:24:48   that way and if you're mostly mac user [TS]

00:24:50   or mostly recently a Mac user you might [TS]

00:24:53   think that windows work the same way [TS]

00:24:54   like it's a reasonable mistake not quite [TS]

00:24:56   as reasonable for Marco spent a long [TS]

00:24:57   time with Windows but still set that [TS]

00:24:59   aside but like i said the reason OS 10 [TS]

00:25:02   works that way when it doesn't is not [TS]

00:25:03   because Microsoft is done and apples [TS]

00:25:05   Smart in this particular case it's [TS]

00:25:08   because it's basically impossible for [TS]

00:25:09   windows to do it always tend to always [TS]

00:25:11   10 installed everything in its almost [TS]

00:25:14   insulation all the drivers everything on [TS]

00:25:16   there because why not it only supports a [TS]

00:25:18   very limited range of hardware Apple [TS]

00:25:20   knows every piece of hardware in every [TS]

00:25:22   single machine that is officially [TS]

00:25:23   supported by his operating system and [TS]

00:25:25   that set of hardware is small windows [TS]

00:25:29   can't take every driver for every [TS]

00:25:31   machine that windows could possibly run [TS]

00:25:33   on and install it because your [TS]

00:25:34   installation would be gigantic it's that [TS]

00:25:37   it's literally impossible there's too [TS]

00:25:38   many drivers from too many different [TS]

00:25:40   places they have to do a thing where [TS]

00:25:41   they do is kind of like a custom install [TS]

00:25:43   for just the hardware that you [TS]

00:25:45   now you might say that windows could [TS]

00:25:46   then after bootup time be smarter about [TS]

00:25:48   pulling down new drivers on demand or [TS]

00:25:50   whatever but anything involved in the [TS]

00:25:52   boot process or like getting the video [TS]

00:25:53   driver to work so you're thinking even [TS]

00:25:55   get to the point where it's downloading [TS]

00:25:56   stuff it's very complicated like [TS]

00:25:57   basically the option that Apple goes [TS]

00:26:00   with is not available to Microsoft they [TS]

00:26:02   cannot say we're just going to install [TS]

00:26:04   the same files and every single windows [TS]

00:26:05   installation and then it will boot every [TS]

00:26:07   single computer so if you thought about [TS]

00:26:09   it for a little while you had no [TS]

00:26:11   experience your for with as you would [TS]

00:26:12   think wait they can't do the apple thing [TS]

00:26:15   which is kind of a shame and Microsoft's [TS]

00:26:17   own fault for having the business model [TS]

00:26:19   that brought them to massive dominance [TS]

00:26:21   of the pc industry for most of my entire [TS]

00:26:22   life but here it is going back around [TS]

00:26:26   and it means that Marco can get a game [TS]

00:26:28   to work in the time but alright so [TS]

00:26:31   couple of very small updates that story [TS]

00:26:33   basically so that the most of the hatred [TS]

00:26:36   for my actions in this story which again [TS]

00:26:39   was was quite strong have most of the [TS]

00:26:42   hatred of photon a few a few key points [TS]

00:26:44   number one was I can't believe you [TS]

00:26:45   expected that to work by having an [TS]

00:26:47   external drive installation move between [TS]

00:26:49   computers use into coverage now [TS]

00:26:51   yeah you're right I shouldn't expect [TS]

00:26:52   that to work i forgot how picky windows [TS]

00:26:54   about drivers i haven't used windows [TS]

00:26:56   reliably i have used windows really at [TS]

00:26:58   all in about 10 years and I haven't used [TS]

00:27:01   heavily in about 12 years so yeah well I [TS]

00:27:03   am NOT very move on to the next thing [TS]

00:27:05   there is a somewhat reasonable chance [TS]

00:27:08   that you could have thought that this [TS]

00:27:10   would work because you are of course [TS]

00:27:12   installing the bootcamp drivers in the [TS]

00:27:13   boot camp drivers are in exactly the [TS]

00:27:15   same situation is like they only have to [TS]

00:27:16   support a limited amount of hardware so [TS]

00:27:18   in theory [TS]

00:27:19   perhaps the bootcamp drivers had they [TS]

00:27:21   been really good and comprehensive could [TS]

00:27:24   have installed the full set of drivers [TS]

00:27:25   that booty boot camp cable machine but [TS]

00:27:27   obviously they did not do that then [TS]

00:27:29   we've heard from many people that the [TS]

00:27:30   bootcamp drivers are a little bit old [TS]

00:27:31   and creaky and have not kept up with the [TS]

00:27:33   advancements in windows which doesn't [TS]

00:27:35   surprise me because Apple supportive for [TS]

00:27:37   bootcamp always seems kind of [TS]

00:27:38   half-hearted in the last let's say half [TS]

00:27:40   decade right but but yet to be fair I [TS]

00:27:42   that is that is that is something [TS]

00:27:44   something made secondly the issue came [TS]

00:27:47   up that i did i did hit the Skip [TS]

00:27:49   activation thing i like about me later [TS]

00:27:51   observation and set up the reason why I [TS]

00:27:53   hit that is not because being lazy and i [TS]

00:27:55   forgot to mention during the show it's [TS]

00:27:57   because I knew people had told [TS]

00:27:59   me that if you activate on the external [TS]

00:28:01   drive and you plug into the computer it [TS]

00:28:02   will break the activation and you have [TS]

00:28:04   to reactivate by calling Microsoft or [TS]

00:28:06   whatever whatever you have to do so I [TS]

00:28:08   knew that was that was a risk so I was [TS]

00:28:10   waiting until it was going to be on the [TS]

00:28:12   computer the games to be played on to [TS]

00:28:14   activate was trying to get the whole [TS]

00:28:15   thing set up my laptop so I wouldn't [TS]

00:28:17   have to disturb tips computer and its up [TS]

00:28:19   time because she was working on it so i [TS]

00:28:22   was trying to get it also my laptop [TS]

00:28:23   first and then i'm going to move the [TS]

00:28:24   driver they're activated there so it [TS]

00:28:27   wouldn't break and then move on [TS]

00:28:30   there's also ways that you can get like [TS]

00:28:31   you know pirate keys volume license keys [TS]

00:28:33   get around this but I was doing this [TS]

00:28:35   legally so you know that i couldn't i [TS]

00:28:36   had to actually follow the the [TS]

00:28:38   wonderfully abusive legitimate customer [TS]

00:28:40   restrictions [TS]

00:28:41   thank you safety around yeah but that's [TS]

00:28:44   that's apparently i get for doing things [TS]

00:28:45   legally and finally the the argument [TS]

00:28:49   that I was being unfair to windows and [TS]

00:28:52   that Windows doesn't suck and I am on [TS]

00:28:54   that i suck for saying that windows are [TS]

00:28:56   stupid i respectfully disagree even [TS]

00:28:59   though that some of the things I did [TS]

00:29:00   were not correct [TS]

00:29:01   windows is stupid and it does suck i'm [TS]

00:29:04   sure that will totally undressed me know [TS]

00:29:07   yes only good good counter argument yes [TS]

00:29:10   they will summarize that but in all cast [TS]

00:29:13   by saying no you with the o in the U [TS]

00:29:15   transpose one more ticket inside before [TS]

00:29:19   we move on to Marco's fame and glory if [TS]

00:29:23   you want to hear both me and tiff talked [TS]

00:29:25   about inside as played on both the mac [TS]

00:29:28   ps4 there will be an upcoming episode of [TS]

00:29:30   the incomparable that we are both on [TS]

00:29:31   where we discuss it then I hope marco [TS]

00:29:33   was far away from the room when I was [TS]

00:29:34   going on because we spoil the whole [TS]

00:29:35   thing I actually I went to the entire [TS]

00:29:37   other side of the house just so I [TS]

00:29:38   wouldn't overhear anything good plan [TS]

00:29:40   anyway play the game that was in the [TS]

00:29:42   incomparable we have a new sponsor this [TS]

00:29:45   week or sponsored by content full [TS]

00:29:47   content folder content management [TS]

00:29:48   developer platform that enables web and [TS]

00:29:51   mobile developers to manage integrate [TS]

00:29:52   and deliver digital content to any kind [TS]

00:29:54   of device or service that connect to an [TS]

00:29:56   API get smart cars vr mobile web digital [TS]

00:29:59   signage or any new platform in other [TS]

00:30:02   words it's a constant as a service [TS]

00:30:03   platform based around a content API it's [TS]

00:30:06   kinda like a CMS is ultimately is used [TS]

00:30:08   for managing content but very much [TS]

00:30:09   unlike wordpress joomla drupal joomla [TS]

00:30:12   things like that content full expect you [TS]

00:30:14   to bring your own custom front end so [TS]

00:30:16   you still create and manage to structure [TS]

00:30:18   your content but you wouldn't set up its [TS]

00:30:20   appearance directly in the CMS content [TS]

00:30:22   full is optimized for and loved by [TS]

00:30:24   developers using the API they request [TS]

00:30:27   content from content full and then [TS]

00:30:29   they're free to do whatever is necessary [TS]

00:30:30   with it for display or whatever else the [TS]

00:30:33   advantage of this approach is the [TS]

00:30:34   process becomes much more flexible while [TS]

00:30:36   editor still enjoy familiar way of [TS]

00:30:38   creating content developers can easily [TS]

00:30:40   plug content fall into their projects [TS]

00:30:42   that the content becomes structured and [TS]

00:30:44   code friendly the contents of service [TS]

00:30:46   approach means there's no tech [TS]

00:30:47   infrastructure to set up and maintain [TS]

00:30:48   your content is always available in the [TS]

00:30:51   content full cloud and you simply use it [TS]

00:30:54   content folders by a number of [TS]

00:30:55   well-established companies such as [TS]

00:30:57   specialized jack-in-the-box nasty gal [TS]

00:30:59   and many others if you want to learn [TS]

00:31:15   hey and many more check it out a Content [TS]

00:31:18   full com for more information thank you [TS]

00:31:20   very much to content for sponsoring our [TS]

00:31:22   show today or 10 was yesterday yesterday [TS]

00:31:28   I'm sorry I'm the app store made some [TS]

00:31:32   news and then I think it was it was a [TS]

00:31:35   little bit more today as well so [TS]

00:31:37   yesterday [TS]

00:31:38   Apple has said that they're going to [TS]

00:31:40   start removing old and busted apps from [TS]

00:31:43   the store that's my summary but that's [TS]

00:31:46   basically what it amounts to [TS]

00:31:48   and they also said that the names of [TS]

00:31:51   apps can no longer be something like [TS]

00:31:54   tweak pot a power users twitter client [TS]

00:31:56   or something like that actually probably [TS]

00:31:58   still fit well you know what i mean so [TS]

00:32:00   it has to be 50 characters or less and [TS]

00:32:03   the idea is they don't want you gaming [TS]

00:32:05   their piss-poor search by adding search [TS]

00:32:09   keywords and terms into your apt title [TS]

00:32:13   so they expect the app titles to be 50 [TS]

00:32:15   characters less also this is great news [TS]

00:32:18   i'm really pleased by this so I have [TS]

00:32:21   nothing really haven't had much more to [TS]

00:32:23   say I think fast [TS]

00:32:25   excellent run afoul of this most likely [TS]

00:32:27   and to be honest that's a good thing [TS]

00:32:29   yeah i mean it this is a very very good [TS]

00:32:31   thing in general I mean you know if you [TS]

00:32:33   look at like that they they're a little [TS]

00:32:34   light on the specifics of what they're [TS]

00:32:36   going to print out but it basically it's [TS]

00:32:38   like you know if the app crashes on [TS]

00:32:39   launch it will be removed immediately so [TS]

00:32:42   I can if you have some some old app that [TS]

00:32:44   no longer literally doesn't even work [TS]

00:32:46   they're just pulling it with no warning [TS]

00:32:47   to the developer just you know well you [TS]

00:32:49   know that they're also they're enforcing [TS]

00:32:51   basically if there's any new rules that [TS]

00:32:54   weren't around when the app first passed [TS]

00:32:56   app review but it is actually fighting [TS]

00:32:58   those rules then they they are retro [TS]

00:33:00   actively enforcement so basically like [TS]

00:33:01   you know it used to be that if you got [TS]

00:33:03   through once an hour before the rules in [TS]

00:33:06   effect you could basically keep doing it [TS]

00:33:08   forever and as long as you didn't update [TS]

00:33:10   your app which is you know not a great [TS]

00:33:12   system so that they're kinda close that [TS]

00:33:14   loophole never going to go back and [TS]

00:33:16   andrey review apps under modern rules [TS]

00:33:19   and if if they if they no longer pass [TS]

00:33:22   the rules because the rules have changed [TS]

00:33:23   or the North something slip through that [TS]

00:33:26   they will now be enforcing that on those [TS]

00:33:28   apps and removing them if they have to [TS]

00:33:30   and then the big thing which i think is [TS]

00:33:32   more interesting is the is basically the [TS]

00:33:35   Africans that has a phrase but it's like [TS]

00:33:37   unmaintained or abandoned apps and so [TS]

00:33:40   what they haven't said specifically what [TS]

00:33:42   that means but what I what I assume that [TS]

00:33:44   would mean are things like if you still [TS]

00:33:47   don't have a sixty four-bit binary [TS]

00:33:48   because i'm assuming part of the reason [TS]

00:33:51   we're doing this is to get the app store [TS]

00:33:52   ready for a future version of iOS [TS]

00:33:55   probably i was eleven doesn't have [TS]

00:33:57   32-bit support at all and won't launch [TS]

00:33:59   there too but absent all things like if [TS]

00:34:01   you still don't have retina support or [TS]

00:34:03   if you still don't have support for the [TS]

00:34:05   larger screens on the phones on the ipad [TS]

00:34:08   I'll be interested to see like how how [TS]

00:34:11   strict they will because the ipad has a [TS]

00:34:12   lot more challenges department there an [TS]

00:34:15   ipad were non-retina for longer and a [TS]

00:34:17   lot of ipad software got written in the [TS]

00:34:19   non grata days and never updated because [TS]

00:34:21   it wasn't worth it to like you know pay [TS]

00:34:23   some consultants to update your software [TS]

00:34:24   or rewrite games or whatever else I [TS]

00:34:26   wonder like are they going to be as [TS]

00:34:28   strict on the ipad you know the the 12.9 [TS]

00:34:32   inch iPad launched and it's really it's [TS]

00:34:35   really crappy to use 9.7 inch apps on [TS]

00:34:38   the 12.9 [TS]

00:34:39   ipad especially if you have to use the [TS]

00:34:41   keyboard for any kind of text input the [TS]

00:34:43   on-screen keyboard is horrible it gets [TS]

00:34:44   blown up so it'll be interesting to see [TS]

00:34:47   like you know basically how strictly [TS]

00:34:48   they enforce that kind of unmaintained [TS]

00:34:51   abandoned rule and if it applies [TS]

00:34:54   assuming it applies to things like [TS]

00:34:55   supporting screen sizes and you knew you [TS]

00:34:58   know modern builds that include the [TS]

00:34:59   architecture stuff like that but then [TS]

00:35:01   basically how strict they be in and what [TS]

00:35:03   else will include I can't imagine them [TS]

00:35:05   doing the screen size thing because I'm [TS]

00:35:07   unless they include other factors [TS]

00:35:08   because I i have apps from large [TS]

00:35:11   multinational corporations that are [TS]

00:35:12   upgraded updated very frequently that [TS]

00:35:15   still don't support my iphone 6 screen [TS]

00:35:17   size you can tell from like the slightly [TS]

00:35:19   too-big keyboard and everything that [TS]

00:35:21   these are not abandon these apps that [TS]

00:35:23   are frequently updated bugs are fixed [TS]

00:35:24   features are added and yet they still [TS]

00:35:26   don't support this screen size so i [TS]

00:35:29   don't think that qualifies as abandoned [TS]

00:35:31   and I don't think Apple can politically [TS]

00:35:33   speaking pole apps like that under the [TS]

00:35:35   guise of we're cleaning out abandoned [TS]

00:35:37   things the 64-bit and 32-bit yeah [TS]

00:35:39   because that's coming no matter what [TS]

00:35:40   anyway and just laying the groundwork [TS]

00:35:42   but screen size and they especially like [TS]

00:35:45   I think their definition of abandoned [TS]

00:35:47   has to be some set of those things plus [TS]

00:35:49   also has not been updated in six months [TS]

00:35:51   or a year or something maybe but i don't [TS]

00:35:54   know i mean looking at some of these [TS]

00:35:55   things they can enforce at the iTunes [TS]

00:35:57   Connect level so they could say like our [TS]

00:35:59   iTunes Connect no longer accepts apps [TS]

00:36:02   that are 30 only which probably hasn't [TS]

00:36:03   for what over a year now and they could [TS]

00:36:05   say things like I didn't take no longer [TS]

00:36:06   support or no longer will allow you to [TS]

00:36:08   submit an app that doesn't support the [TS]

00:36:10   iphone 6 and 6 plus screen sizes and [TS]

00:36:13   then six months after that they can say [TS]

00:36:15   well if you if you don't support the [TS]

00:36:16   screen sizes and how did it happen over [TS]

00:36:18   six months but the feeling that they can [TS]

00:36:21   make a loophole they want to and and [TS]

00:36:23   that is probably have some of these [TS]

00:36:24   things will play out but I mean one [TS]

00:36:26   thing like you know most apps that do [TS]

00:36:28   that they're still getting updates like [TS]

00:36:29   the actually the official test lap is [TS]

00:36:32   one of these apps where the Tesla app is [TS]

00:36:35   it gets updates like every few months [TS]

00:36:37   but it still doesn't support the iphone [TS]

00:36:40   6 and 6 plus screen sizes like it has [TS]

00:36:42   the modern keyboard and everything but [TS]

00:36:43   it's just it's still just not supporting [TS]

00:36:45   larger screens like it's all like pixel [TS]

00:36:48   perfect ios6 style designed and I assume [TS]

00:36:50   they don't want to like go back and [TS]

00:36:52   paste [TS]

00:36:52   monitor redesigned to to blow it up and [TS]

00:36:54   everything but like that's kind of [TS]

00:36:56   crappy and so this if they can use this [TS]

00:36:59   to to push companies to update their [TS]

00:37:03   their ancient broken apps that they're [TS]

00:37:04   basically it's not updating out of [TS]

00:37:06   laziness or not you're not moving [TS]

00:37:07   tomorrow stuff because of laziness or [TS]

00:37:09   just not want to allocate the funds for [TS]

00:37:10   it [TS]

00:37:11   this is probably a good thing it's [TS]

00:37:12   definitely good thing for users and for [TS]

00:37:15   developers who are in the consulting [TS]

00:37:16   business it is almost certainly a good [TS]

00:37:18   thing because this is probably going to [TS]

00:37:20   be a big boon to consulting because all [TS]

00:37:24   these companies that have all these [TS]

00:37:25   ancient iphone and ipad apps who they [TS]

00:37:27   didn't they didn't really have any kind [TS]

00:37:29   of push before too want to put more [TS]

00:37:31   money into them but now they're going to [TS]

00:37:33   have a big push of apple says you need [TS]

00:37:35   to update this to support XO we're going [TS]

00:37:36   to pull you out the after one 30 days [TS]

00:37:38   well I still think the vast majority of [TS]

00:37:40   this is going to be cleaning out the [TS]

00:37:41   crap that no one has looked at in [TS]

00:37:42   forever that it also isn't making any [TS]

00:37:44   more money so i think the vast majority [TS]

00:37:46   of the garbage is just just crap that [TS]

00:37:48   was released once never updated stop [TS]

00:37:50   making money three-and-a-half years ago [TS]

00:37:52   and it's just in the store like and and [TS]

00:37:54   the the meta story about this has [TS]

00:37:56   everyone who has written anything about [TS]

00:37:57   it is pointed out and as I think it's [TS]

00:37:59   obvious to everybody looking at is this [TS]

00:38:01   marks the end of the era when Apple is a [TS]

00:38:03   counting the number of applications in [TS]

00:38:05   the app store is their primary sure how [TS]

00:38:07   awesome they are doing [TS]

00:38:08   it's like I mean they should stop this [TS]

00:38:09   longer because as I think we've all [TS]

00:38:12   talked about on past programs over the [TS]

00:38:13   years once you get into the hundreds of [TS]

00:38:15   thousands or millions the number of apps [TS]

00:38:17   you have the app store is a detriment to [TS]

00:38:20   the user experience not not a boon so [TS]

00:38:22   you know because it's just they're just [TS]

00:38:24   especially when your searches horrendous [TS]

00:38:26   Apple but yeah so like the out the app [TS]

00:38:29   store it's better if they delete several [TS]

00:38:31   hundred thousand crap apps [TS]

00:38:33   that's another thing I mean like the [TS]

00:38:34   search is a is a massive angle to this [TS]

00:38:36   like you know so the other side you know [TS]

00:38:38   as Eddie said first like there-there [TS]

00:38:40   prohibiting spamming your appt with [TS]

00:38:42   keywords that are they're not related to [TS]

00:38:44   what it does and they're sending a cap [TS]

00:38:46   on 50 characters now I don't know what [TS]

00:38:48   the campus before but I've seen some [TS]

00:38:49   pretty long appt titles definitely visit [TS]

00:38:51   like four sentences after the after the [TS]

00:38:53   first heard of describing all the things [TS]

00:38:55   it does mention every Big Apple this [TS]

00:38:56   works for Instagram Twitter and all [TS]

00:38:58   those all the spammers but a lot of this [TS]

00:39:00   like these these things wouldn't be as [TS]

00:39:03   big of a problem in the app store if the [TS]

00:39:05   search was better [TS]

00:39:06   and so a lot of critics have pointed out [TS]

00:39:08   rightly so that like these things are [TS]

00:39:10   nice but if you just fix the search like [TS]

00:39:13   you know obviously it would [TS]

00:39:14   yeah it was really crap to become [TS]

00:39:16   exactly define stuff on exactly so it is [TS]

00:39:19   it is kind of I mean on one hand it's a [TS]

00:39:22   little bit frustrating that like apples [TS]

00:39:23   kind of jumping through hoops to do [TS]

00:39:25   things that better search would [TS]

00:39:26   alleviate on the other hand it seems [TS]

00:39:29   pretty clear that better search is not [TS]

00:39:30   coming [TS]

00:39:31   yeah that Apple just isn't very good at [TS]

00:39:34   at church especially on the whoever [TS]

00:39:36   manages App Store search like whatever [TS]

00:39:38   they're doing over there whatever [TS]

00:39:39   methods and algorithms are using the [TS]

00:39:42   they just can't seem to pull together a [TS]

00:39:43   really good search and so if it's not [TS]

00:39:45   going to happen then you might as well [TS]

00:39:47   do things around it to to alleviate how [TS]

00:39:50   crappy it is for people but I should do [TS]

00:39:52   both likely i'm assuming they are doing [TS]

00:39:54   both but this is like the easy first [TS]

00:39:55   thing to do like it really is a benefit [TS]

00:39:57   to like it because the app store is not [TS]

00:40:00   the weapons mentioned the web like the [TS]

00:40:01   web is just full of crap in the magic [TS]

00:40:03   Google's it finds out the pages that are [TS]

00:40:04   actually worth you finding even though [TS]

00:40:06   millions and millions of pages match [TS]

00:40:08   whatever you type into the search box [TS]

00:40:09   they find the one that is the best match [TS]

00:40:11   meaning a not just a spammy abandonware [TS]

00:40:13   you know like but google doesn't control [TS]

00:40:15   the web entirely yet told they can't not [TS]

00:40:19   coming out [TS]

00:40:20   yeah they can't really out of the they [TS]

00:40:22   can't clean out the crappy a web pages [TS]

00:40:24   but the whole idea behind the apps are [TS]

00:40:26   if you had read any story about the app [TS]

00:40:28   store in the first few years I your [TS]

00:40:30   chance to see the word curated in the [TS]

00:40:32   article are very very high and what [TS]

00:40:36   happened has done with the app store is [TS]

00:40:38   does not really fit any reasonable [TS]

00:40:41   definition of curated because if you are [TS]

00:40:43   curating any kind of collection of [TS]

00:40:45   anything you just wouldn't allow this [TS]

00:40:47   kind of crap to a enter in the first [TS]

00:40:49   place which they've been getting better [TS]

00:40:50   about you know hey we don't need any [TS]

00:40:52   more fart apps remember that error right [TS]

00:40:53   and be you wouldn't let it sit there [TS]

00:40:56   curating means realizing that there is a [TS]

00:40:58   three hundred thousand applications that [TS]

00:41:00   cross on launch that haven't been [TS]

00:41:01   downloaded in several years except for [TS]

00:41:03   by supporting suspecting people who get [TS]

00:41:05   better results from your terrible search [TS]

00:41:06   right curating means you've gotta clean [TS]

00:41:08   that crap out [TS]

00:41:09   yes they should make search better but [TS]

00:41:11   you should also do this otherwise don't [TS]

00:41:12   pretend that you're really curating up [TS]

00:41:14   all you're really doing is exerting [TS]

00:41:16   control but you don't care about the [TS]

00:41:18   state of the class [TS]

00:41:19   you know you care about is like the gate [TS]

00:41:20   like we don't want to let any apps in [TS]

00:41:22   that violate our current set of [TS]

00:41:24   arbitrary rules but once they're in [TS]

00:41:26   whatever we don't curate the collection [TS]

00:41:28   we just curate the door you know we're [TS]

00:41:30   just the bouncer but once you get in you [TS]

00:41:31   can you can die on the floor and slowly [TS]

00:41:33   decompose and we won't even look at you [TS]

00:41:36   maybe that better analogy got a little [TS]

00:41:38   grim in the end but yeah a little bit [TS]

00:41:40   goodness and then Apple has also updated [TS]

00:41:46   their official review guidelines i guess [TS]

00:41:49   that's what happened and they've made [TS]

00:41:50   some clarifications about subscriptions [TS]

00:41:52   with which is interesting to several [TS]

00:41:55   people and Marco you caught wind of this [TS]

00:41:57   yeah i mean a logical data there's a lot [TS]

00:41:59   of sites now that that basically provide [TS]

00:42:01   gifts for like any time Apple changes [TS]

00:42:03   review guidelines the the site now that [TS]

00:42:05   will just tell you here's what changes [TS]

00:42:06   will even like alert you some people [TS]

00:42:08   email you like it there or the tweet [TS]

00:42:10   about it's pretty pretty great services [TS]

00:42:11   so anyway everyone immediately notices [TS]

00:42:14   that although the review guidelines have [TS]

00:42:15   had some modifications and some of it is [TS]

00:42:18   no simple expected stuff to do things [TS]

00:42:21   like sticker pack rules for the upcoming [TS]

00:42:24   iOS 10 launch that's probably happening [TS]

00:42:26   probably next week or something very [TS]

00:42:28   soon and that's cool but then they also [TS]

00:42:31   basically clarified the author noon [TS]

00:42:34   subscription rules a little bit because [TS]

00:42:36   you know as well as you learned early in [TS]

00:42:37   the summer it for WC they they announced [TS]

00:42:40   they were bringing descriptions [TS]

00:42:41   basically allowing them for all [TS]

00:42:42   categories of apps not just like [TS]

00:42:44   publications anymore and they work it [TS]

00:42:47   was kind of left vague and unstated and [TS]

00:42:51   then later slightly clarifies by phil [TS]

00:42:53   schiller on the talk show live actually [TS]

00:42:55   WTC about like you know could like [TS]

00:42:59   productivity apps just charge you [TS]

00:43:01   subscription for updates and you [TS]

00:43:03   basically can you charge a subscription [TS]

00:43:05   for just using the app instead of like [TS]

00:43:08   content that was being delivered or a [TS]

00:43:10   web service or anything else and that [TS]

00:43:13   was left unspecified and vague until [TS]

00:43:16   yesterday when they basically said [TS]

00:43:18   exactly said it was like it was a list [TS]

00:43:20   of things that would be most likely [TS]

00:43:22   permitted and there's still a little [TS]

00:43:24   non-committal and it basically it's like [TS]

00:43:26   basically submit and try but it was [TS]

00:43:28   always that way but one of the things in [TS]

00:43:30   the list of examples that would be [TS]

00:43:32   permitted [TS]

00:43:32   was apps that have continued that had [TS]

00:43:35   like a frequent and substantial updates [TS]

00:43:37   close so close if only there were a way [TS]

00:43:39   for you to know what that rule said yeah [TS]

00:43:42   if only if only I would have done some [TS]

00:43:44   homework [TS]

00:43:45   Casey and I are both staring at it as [TS]

00:43:46   you say there's no way to really know is [TS]

00:43:48   that exactly but if it had been in the [TS]

00:43:50   notes and somehow put into bold text [TS]

00:43:53   other it look exactly which part but you [TS]

00:43:55   should look at just had to change tabs [TS]

00:43:58   we're still in follow-up yes [TS]

00:44:00   now this should have been more efficient [TS]

00:44:01   moving out is when tested before this [TS]

00:44:03   was before the second part of the story [TS]

00:44:05   came out about the you know 50 character [TS]

00:44:06   limit and the whatever like so anyway [TS]

00:44:08   this would have been follow up on [TS]

00:44:10   because that we were all these I was [TS]

00:44:11   remembering very angry about this rule [TS]

00:44:14   because the written rule and what Phil [TS]

00:44:16   said seem to be at odds and it was like [TS]

00:44:18   just make it clear like it doesn't [TS]

00:44:20   really matter what Phil Schiller says [TS]

00:44:21   because you can't submit your app and [TS]

00:44:22   then say well Phil Schiller said this [TS]

00:44:24   thing I saw wwc like that's not how [TS]

00:44:26   rules work you have to like your writing [TS]

00:44:28   rules make them as clear as you possibly [TS]

00:44:29   can and it was frustrating to me that [TS]

00:44:31   didn't seem like Apple had its its act [TS]

00:44:34   together and we're questioning like does [TS]

00:44:36   that mean that if you make an [TS]

00:44:38   application for like a Productivity app [TS]

00:44:40   or whatever and you just offer updates [TS]

00:44:42   every year or so like major updates can [TS]

00:44:45   use to make a description that or not [TS]

00:44:46   that's what we all wanted to know and [TS]

00:44:48   the clarification and the exact words [TS]

00:44:50   that the type of things that can offer [TS]

00:44:52   the first weekend pricing or perhaps [TS]

00:44:54   that offer consistent substantive [TS]

00:44:56   updates which is not particularly [TS]

00:44:59   precise but it clearly lays out you [TS]

00:45:02   don't need to have new game little [TS]

00:45:04   levels are episodic content or anything [TS]

00:45:06   like that just consistent support [TS]

00:45:09   consistent updates and substantive [TS]

00:45:11   updates so that's the open to [TS]

00:45:13   interpretation but it doesn't say [TS]

00:45:14   anything about you being a media app [TS]

00:45:16   anything about you being a game anything [TS]

00:45:18   about you having like a magazine issues [TS]

00:45:21   are new content just merely says you got [TS]

00:45:23   updated those got to be subsist that [TS]

00:45:25   consistent and there has to be something [TS]

00:45:27   in them have to be like not just so I [TS]

00:45:28   editable you know I had one tiny little [TS]

00:45:30   tweak here one new preference right and [TS]

00:45:33   so I think that's what people want [TS]

00:45:34   they just wanted to get clearance for [TS]

00:45:35   like oh ok if I think and then it's just [TS]

00:45:37   arguing over what counts as a [TS]

00:45:39   substantive update and I think people do [TS]

00:45:42   a to point out it's got like you did to [TS]

00:45:44   point on and include streaming [TS]

00:45:45   you'd win that argument with any [TS]

00:45:47   reasonable person if you were allowed to [TS]

00:45:48   have to say that's a substantial update [TS]

00:45:50   this is a major feature major new [TS]

00:45:51   capabilities and if you have a [TS]

00:45:53   subscription pricing the overcast one [TS]

00:45:55   point I didn't have streaming in to [TS]

00:45:56   point out did I think everybody [TS]

00:45:58   including Apple would be all thumbs up [TS]

00:46:00   on that and that's all we were looking [TS]

00:46:00   for [TS]

00:46:01   back when this rule came out just to [TS]

00:46:04   understand the scope of subscription and [TS]

00:46:06   then we can just argue about the details [TS]

00:46:07   right and it still is going to be like [TS]

00:46:09   you still have to submit kind of blindly [TS]

00:46:12   and just hope they allow you to do it [TS]

00:46:14   but this at least gives you a a pretty [TS]

00:46:17   good indication that like if you're [TS]

00:46:19   using this responsibly they will [TS]

00:46:21   probably allowed you can start [TS]

00:46:22   development is the best thing about it [TS]

00:46:24   like before you didn't even know whether [TS]

00:46:25   it was worthwhile to start developing [TS]

00:46:26   now you can start development I feel [TS]

00:46:27   like you get rejected they can say oh [TS]

00:46:30   that's not a substantial enough update [TS]

00:46:31   you can say okay well I'll just work [TS]

00:46:33   more and more features and certainly [TS]

00:46:34   presumably at some point you could say [TS]

00:46:36   now this surely is worthy of a [TS]

00:46:37   substantial update and now I you know of [TS]

00:46:40   course if you take too long your updates [TS]

00:46:41   and are consistent but it's like this [TS]

00:46:43   gives people the cover they need to [TS]

00:46:45   begin development which is all anyone [TS]

00:46:47   really wants to know like am I wasting [TS]

00:46:48   my time entirely on this or if I have [TS]

00:46:51   been acting in good faith with my [TS]

00:46:52   understanding of how this works the [TS]

00:46:54   language is now on the same page with [TS]

00:46:55   Phil Schiller said and I feel like this [TS]

00:46:57   should make everybody relax and feel [TS]

00:46:59   better [TS]

00:47:00   he says foolishly before everyone gets [TS]

00:47:01   rejected for major updates but we'll see [TS]

00:47:03   how this works out but we respond to [TS]

00:47:06   this week by Casper and excessively [TS]

00:48:57   ah John posted a week ago a collection [TS]

00:49:04   of scans I presume or perhaps pictures [TS]

00:49:07   of old artwork that he had done [TS]

00:49:09   generally speaking as a kid I found this [TS]

00:49:12   fascinating and we'll put links to all [TS]

00:49:14   these pieces in the show notes basically [TS]

00:49:15   it was on John's Instagram account [TS]

00:49:18   profile whatever you call it [TS]

00:49:20   I known John that you fancy yourself a [TS]

00:49:23   bit of an artist when you were a kid and [TS]

00:49:25   I thought that meant that your your [TS]

00:49:27   artistic skills were better than just [TS]

00:49:31   stick figures which puts you ahead of [TS]

00:49:33   almost everyone i know then I see all [TS]

00:49:35   these pictures and I realize holy crap [TS]

00:49:38   like you i don't know if you knew this [TS]

00:49:39   but you could like really really draw [TS]

00:49:41   really been well yeah they were really [TS]

00:49:43   good so fYI that's like you don't read [TS]

00:49:46   anything that i write is the first [TS]

00:49:48   hypercritical thing that I wrote [TS]

00:49:49   what's the first line of that it's like [TS]

00:49:51   it's a good fellows reference even into [TS]

00:49:53   double whammy [TS]

00:49:54   honey look we we knew from following you [TS]

00:49:56   and reading and listened to your stuff [TS]

00:49:58   we knew that you used to be some kind of [TS]

00:50:00   artist but we met we do I know like the [TS]

00:50:03   degree or what you drew really all we [TS]

00:50:06   knew is that you had said that you had [TS]

00:50:08   done for a while and you were too [TS]

00:50:10   critical about it and you [TS]

00:50:11   couldn't get over how critical you work [TS]

00:50:13   your own word now you got to reread that [TS]

00:50:15   to understand and probably the point of [TS]

00:50:18   that thing was [TS]

00:50:19   yes in the beginning was you know as far [TS]

00:50:22   back as I can remember blah blah [TS]

00:50:23   installed i want to grow up to be an [TS]

00:50:25   artist and then you read the whole thing [TS]

00:50:26   you realize like why didn't I do that [TS]

00:50:28   it's because my actual skill wasn't [TS]

00:50:30   artistic talent is why didn't pursue an [TS]

00:50:32   actual scale was being able to draw [TS]

00:50:35   something look at it no was wrong with [TS]

00:50:36   it and you just fix it you just repeat [TS]

00:50:37   that process and if you just keep [TS]

00:50:38   repeating it [TS]

00:50:39   the picture gets better and better the [TS]

00:50:40   longer you work on but that's not how [TS]

00:50:42   that's not how a real artist work well [TS]

00:50:44   they kind of how they work but anyway I [TS]

00:50:47   realized my limitations in all fairness [TS]

00:50:48   you that you have made a very good [TS]

00:50:50   living by being a complainer [TS]

00:50:51   professionally exactly we're going to [TS]

00:50:54   look at how are you going to make more [TS]

00:50:55   money to drawing pictures that during [TS]

00:50:58   copies of other people's pictures are [TS]

00:50:59   complaining about stuff really complain [TS]

00:51:01   about stuff is much more lucrative well [TS]

00:51:02   if you're good and you are really going [TS]

00:51:04   to complain about stuff got a lot of [TS]

00:51:06   practice to be good to complain about [TS]

00:51:08   stuff you can't just complained a lot [TS]

00:51:10   about it you have to go to complain well [TS]

00:51:13   about it and that's what like you are so [TS]

00:51:15   good at complaining well anybody can [TS]

00:51:17   complain i complain all the time but I'm [TS]

00:51:19   not nearly as good as you are you a [TS]

00:51:20   professional top-notch like world-class [TS]

00:51:23   complainer about anything you need to [TS]

00:51:25   get the practice to mess it up [TS]

00:51:28   complaining Carnegie Hall practice kid [TS]

00:51:31   well you don't even know that's saying [TS]

00:51:33   I'm angle too much it was unrecognizable [TS]

00:51:35   hi apologize i'm an old man but my [TS]

00:51:40   goodness so anyway I didn't I don't have [TS]

00:51:43   too much more to say about these other [TS]

00:51:45   than I genuinely genuinely was [TS]

00:51:49   dumbfounded at how good they were cuz i [TS]

00:51:52   expected it to be like you know stick [TS]

00:51:55   figures plus plus if you will and that's [TS]

00:51:57   not a new underscore app what i mean by [TS]

00:51:59   that is you the next the next door up [TS]

00:52:01   from if we had not yet anyway I would [TS]

00:52:03   love to see that actually probably [TS]

00:52:05   pretty awesome it'll it'll be like a [TS]

00:52:08   pinpoint / mug shot but but with [TS]

00:52:11   underscore spin on it [TS]

00:52:12   yes I thought it was just gonna be like [TS]

00:52:14   better than your average you know 12 or [TS]

00:52:17   15 year-old what have you but which I [TS]

00:52:19   guess yes this was but but these were [TS]

00:52:21   like way better than your average 12 to [TS]

00:52:23   15 years [TS]

00:52:24   old i remember vividly when I was I [TS]

00:52:27   don't like 2nd or 3rd grade which is [TS]

00:52:29   younger than what we're talking about [TS]

00:52:31   I had free hand drawn a picture of [TS]

00:52:33   garfield the cat and done if I may say [TS]

00:52:37   so and extraordinarily impressive job of [TS]

00:52:40   it this is my crowning achievement as an [TS]

00:52:42   artist in fact it's pretty much my only [TS]

00:52:44   achievement as an artist and I would [TS]

00:52:47   show all my like classmates like a first [TS]

00:52:49   or second grader what this was and they [TS]

00:52:51   would all be like oh you just trace that [TS]

00:52:53   and how do you fix this problem when [TS]

00:52:56   you're in first or second grade i've got [TS]

00:52:58   to have this somewhere and I but it'll [TS]

00:52:59   take me 10 years to get out what I did [TS]

00:53:02   to fix this problem of all you just [TS]

00:53:03   trace that is I wrote in big very thick [TS]

00:53:06   letters in all caps [TS]

00:53:07   I did not trace this next picture are [TS]

00:53:10   filled with the most great artists put [TS]

00:53:12   other things actually if you look at [TS]

00:53:13   their very fine for it but anyway agency [TS]

00:53:17   i was stunned by how good these were and [TS]

00:53:19   and i and i'm really really genuinely [TS]

00:53:21   impressed by them and and I want to see [TS]

00:53:24   more of them so I find more posts with [TS]

00:53:26   people and mathematics follow this crap [TS]

00:53:28   but a piano like i said in my [TS]

00:53:29   hypercritical see the secret all this [TS]

00:53:31   stuff is first of all as i stated i [TS]

00:53:33   think every single description on [TS]

00:53:35   instagram for these things almost all [TS]

00:53:37   these things are from another like [TS]

00:53:40   direct copies of painting or a poster or [TS]

00:53:44   something that was you know probably on [TS]

00:53:47   my wall from something like I didn't do [TS]

00:53:48   the these are originals right [TS]

00:53:50   even the ones that are just of random [TS]

00:53:51   people are taken from like people for [TS]

00:53:53   magazines or composite pictures in [TS]

00:53:55   magazines but most of them are just [TS]

00:53:57   exactly direct copies and all you need [TS]

00:54:00   to make a perfect copy of like a cool [TS]

00:54:03   poster or painting or book cover or [TS]

00:54:05   something else and I was into all these [TS]

00:54:07   in a fantasy book series or whatever and [TS]

00:54:09   i got these calendars with the big [TS]

00:54:10   posters and stuff [TS]

00:54:11   all you need to be able to make an [TS]

00:54:13   amazing copy of of what is already an [TS]

00:54:15   amazing piece of art is the ability to [TS]

00:54:17   know when you've drawn something have i [TS]

00:54:20   drawn it like that thing over there or [TS]

00:54:22   have I messed up in some way and that's [TS]

00:54:24   it right and you just repeat that [TS]

00:54:26   process and eventually you end up with [TS]

00:54:27   essentially a larger version of the book [TS]

00:54:30   cover that you were copying the whole [TS]

00:54:32   time [TS]

00:54:32   and the better the barrier most people [TS]

00:54:34   have to doing that is somewhat artistic [TS]

00:54:37   ability but mostly they will draw what [TS]

00:54:40   they think is they see in the book cover [TS]

00:54:41   and then they will look down look up the [TS]

00:54:43   book cover and look down what they've [TS]

00:54:44   drawn on their giant poster sized piece [TS]

00:54:46   of paper and thank yeah that's about [TS]

00:54:48   right and let's continue and if you do [TS]

00:54:50   that repeatedly you end up with this [TS]

00:54:51   telephone misshapen blob that only looks [TS]

00:54:53   vaguely like what was in the book cover [TS]

00:54:54   and it doesn't look good you gotta draw [TS]

00:54:56   it's actually on the book cover [TS]

00:54:58   you have to know when you've done [TS]

00:54:59   something you know too big to small at [TS]

00:55:01   the wrong angle and then you too if you [TS]

00:55:05   have this one particular skill can [TS]

00:55:07   essentially make an amazing copy of some [TS]

00:55:10   other artists piece of work and get all [TS]

00:55:12   the credit for making this great picture [TS]

00:55:13   and also the people look at this you [TS]

00:55:15   know the the dragonlance series [TS]

00:55:17   recognize these pictures they're famous [TS]

00:55:19   pictures from that series made by [TS]

00:55:20   amazing actual artists and they grew it [TS]

00:55:23   from whole cloth from their head because [TS]

00:55:24   their actual artist I was merely a very [TS]

00:55:27   skilled mimic well regardless of what [TS]

00:55:32   you think you were and whether or not [TS]

00:55:33   you think you were good [TS]

00:55:34   I why it was and remain extremely [TS]

00:55:37   impressed I was good for my age that's [TS]

00:55:39   why i put most of these entities like [TS]

00:55:40   that as i get older it's less impressive [TS]

00:55:42   to do something like this on your 18 but [TS]

00:55:43   doing 13like pretty good for a [TS]

00:55:45   thirteen-year-old even a [TS]

00:55:46   thirteen-year-old mimic i did have some [TS]

00:55:48   other originals and you've seen my [TS]

00:55:49   crappy paintings that are around the [TS]

00:55:50   house to be painting is obviously much [TS]

00:55:51   harder but they're from a similar time [TS]

00:55:53   period when I'm like late single-digit [TS]

00:55:55   ages or like getting close into my teens [TS]

00:55:57   but you know these things have [TS]

00:56:00   sentimental value because i had other [TS]

00:56:02   things all over my walls for my [TS]

00:56:04   childhood bedroom so I was just happy to [TS]

00:56:07   find them in the attic and have them all [TS]

00:56:08   be intact and like you know what I [TS]

00:56:10   should record these because who knows [TS]

00:56:11   what will happen to them in the future [TS]

00:56:12   now I've got them in digital form [TS]

00:56:15   yep real-time follow-up from my buddy [TS]

00:56:18   Spencer I it appears that it is about 10 [TS]

00:56:22   minutes per Megan a half of mp3 data if [TS]

00:56:26   you really really really break it down [TS]

00:56:28   but that's using the HEA c-format thank [TS]

00:56:32   you yes and pretty well compressed so [TS]

00:56:34   are our dream of issuing an episode of [TS]

00:56:37   ATP on 17 floppy disks might actually be [TS]

00:56:40   reasonably possible [TS]

00:56:43   indeed sir there's been something [TS]

00:56:46   assembly crap yesterday when you have to [TS]

00:56:48   find someplace to buy floppy disks in [TS]

00:56:50   bulk and a door and a drive to right the [TS]

00:56:53   ball [TS]

00:56:53   I've got you covered there oh yeah [TS]

00:56:55   actually might have a fly a USB floppy [TS]

00:56:58   drive around here somewhere i did have [TS]

00:57:00   one very recently and i don't know what [TS]

00:57:02   i did with it but I might be able to [TS]

00:57:04   help out regardless I Cloud Storage has [TS]

00:57:07   a new option now there's now two [TS]

00:57:09   terabytes for twenty bucks month that's [TS]

00:57:12   cool I guess [TS]

00:57:13   yeah before was he kept a one terabyte [TS]

00:57:15   and that's actually planet if and i have [TS]

00:57:18   for our giant photo libraries and it's [TS]

00:57:20   nice [TS]

00:57:21   however before like if you needed more [TS]

00:57:23   than one terabyte probably for photos [TS]

00:57:24   you basically just couldn't there was no [TS]

00:57:27   option now there is now you can go to [TS]

00:57:29   two terabytes which is nice [TS]

00:57:31   twice the money twice space ok still and [TS]

00:57:34   i think it's it's not insanely [TS]

00:57:36   competitive on that pricing but it's not [TS]

00:57:39   too terrible and it's nice to have the [TS]

00:57:40   option as you pointed out if you don't [TS]

00:57:42   have the option you just feel terrible [TS]

00:57:44   my brother was in the situation with his [TS]

00:57:45   photo library has a similar-sized sony [TS]

00:57:48   camera anybody got as many years ago and [TS]

00:57:50   he has multiple kids and he shoots [TS]

00:57:52   everything in raw he was over the [TS]

00:57:54   terabyte i have is like having over [TS]

00:57:56   terrible your oldest kid is like three [TS]

00:57:58   but me takes long years and rose are [TS]

00:58:00   really big not but anyway he was over [TS]

00:58:02   terabyte so he couldn't use 14 of the [TS]

00:58:04   iCloud photo library and he just had to [TS]

00:58:06   find other things to do in other ways to [TS]

00:58:09   back up stuff and it was you know that [TS]

00:58:11   such as kind of hamburgers no amount of [TS]

00:58:13   money could give the Apple so please [TS]

00:58:14   just take my photos and now finally they [TS]

00:58:17   offer a two terabyte option so I excited [TS]

00:58:19   the sentiment my messages hey you can [TS]

00:58:21   finally upload your photo library said [TS]

00:58:22   no after the summer i'm over 2 terabytes [TS]

00:58:24   to my solution is actually very simple [TS]

00:58:27   delete photos if anything that is that [TS]

00:58:30   is being shot by a real camera first [TS]

00:58:32   goes into lightroom and lightroom is [TS]

00:58:35   where I do all the picking all the [TS]

00:58:36   editing then when it's when i'm done [TS]

00:58:39   with like processing an event i export [TS]

00:58:42   all those as very high-quality jpegs [TS]

00:58:44   into Photos app and that's because like [TS]

00:58:47   basically a raw never goes into photos [TS]

00:58:49   because lightroom is better at first of [TS]

00:58:52   all and also just for that for again the [TS]

00:58:54   space reasons of [TS]

00:58:55   of sinking least all the devices even [TS]

00:58:57   when even thumbnail or not and then [TS]

00:58:59   speed and the catalog sighs and icloud [TS]

00:59:01   limits of space like this so that kind [TS]

00:59:04   of system is much more cumbersome but [TS]

00:59:07   does result in a way better photos [TS]

00:59:09   experience with the bonus that when i [TS]

00:59:12   import invent into photos because I've [TS]

00:59:15   already like picked all the crappy [TS]

00:59:16   photos out and have only exported [TS]

00:59:18   perfectly processed awesome ones [TS]

00:59:20   it looks like it does in apple [TS]

00:59:21   commercials and demos were like all the [TS]

00:59:23   pictures are perfect because like [TS]

00:59:25   normally leave you look at my bride my [TS]

00:59:27   raw lightroom library before everything [TS]

00:59:28   gets picked through and edited it you [TS]

00:59:31   know you have like a million pictures of [TS]

00:59:32   the same thing we're trying to exactly [TS]

00:59:34   the right shot a half these are blurry [TS]

00:59:36   or miss exposed to whatever else and it [TS]

00:59:39   does not look anything like the Apple [TS]

00:59:40   commercials but my photos were actually [TS]

00:59:42   looks pretty close a lot of time because [TS]

00:59:44   it's it is only receiving the edited [TS]

00:59:46   ones there's another example where it [TS]

00:59:47   seems like apple doesn't quite [TS]

00:59:49   understand how these some set of its [TS]

00:59:51   users use its products like these i [TS]

00:59:53   think everybody who is even remotely [TS]

00:59:55   into photography or has kids and likes [TS]

00:59:57   to take pictures of them ends up with [TS]

00:59:59   exactly like you set up [TS]

00:59:59   exactly like you set up [TS]

01:00:00   a library filled with tons of pictures [TS]

01:00:02   some of them are just a mess and then in [TS]

01:00:04   the good ones like it's not like you [TS]

01:00:06   didn't burn even if you're not personal [TS]

01:00:07   you take 50 pictures of you know the kid [TS]

01:00:09   blowing out the candles try to get the [TS]

01:00:10   one shot right everybody does that [TS]

01:00:12   that's how you take foots you know the [TS]

01:00:14   secret different degrees take a ton of [TS]

01:00:15   pictures then then hopefully you'll find [TS]

01:00:17   one good one out of a thousand and [TS]

01:00:18   eventually if you really good one good [TS]

01:00:19   one out of five hundred right but you [TS]

01:00:22   still have all those pictures and I [TS]

01:00:23   guess the smart thing to do is to delete [TS]

01:00:25   the other ones but if you have any sort [TS]

01:00:27   of pak-rat tendencies like well even [TS]

01:00:29   though these are the best picture maybe [TS]

01:00:30   it's some day I want to look back on the [TS]

01:00:32   one where they make a funny face or [TS]

01:00:34   whatever you know you don't want to like [TS]

01:00:35   there's the really excellent pictures [TS]

01:00:37   that they graduate to could appear in [TS]

01:00:39   apple and but there's kind of mediocre [TS]

01:00:41   ones that are still endearing I got lots [TS]

01:00:43   of pictures of my kids making funny [TS]

01:00:44   faces that i would never have never seen [TS]

01:00:46   a plan or maybe even a little bit of [TS]

01:00:47   focus as they're running out of the [TS]

01:00:48   frame but it's like a funny scene or [TS]

01:00:50   something i don't want to delete those [TS]

01:00:51   right but you do want to have a photo [TS]

01:00:54   library that is just the good ones i do [TS]

01:00:56   that with the favorite feature which is [TS]

01:00:58   you know putting the hearts in or [TS]

01:00:59   whatever but imagine if they had to work [TS]

01:01:01   something that supported marcos workflow [TS]

01:01:02   which I would do it was all within one [TS]

01:01:04   half witches upload the raws go through [TS]

01:01:06   them sort them out pick the ones you [TS]

01:01:08   really like do the adjustments burned [TS]

01:01:10   down to jpg and then hide everything [TS]

01:01:12   that doesn't make the cut [TS]

01:01:15   I guess they would still forced to be [TS]

01:01:16   forced to allow you to upload everything [TS]

01:01:18   for backup purposes but it would sure [TS]

01:01:19   make browsing a lot easier if you could [TS]

01:01:22   if you don't have to choose between [TS]

01:01:23   delete forever and ever and ever and [TS]

01:01:26   mostly don't show those and i know they [TS]

01:01:28   have the ability to hide pictures and [TS]

01:01:29   again they have favorite and stuff like [TS]

01:01:30   that so they kind of give a hybrid [TS]

01:01:33   solution but the fact that Marco has to [TS]

01:01:34   use two apps to do what I think is a [TS]

01:01:36   very reasonable workflow is kind of a [TS]

01:01:38   shame and the two terabyte officer [TS]

01:01:40   twenty bucks it's like Apple i know not [TS]

01:01:42   a lot of people do this but [TS]

01:01:44   technologically speaking its and [TS]

01:01:47   financially speaking and business [TS]

01:01:49   practice speaking it's not that much [TS]

01:01:51   harder two or three terabytes or 30 and [TS]

01:01:53   four terabytes or 40 I can keep going [TS]

01:01:55   with this this is crazy sequence that I [TS]

01:01:58   like I don't know how much your storage [TS]

01:01:59   costs help put it on a different curve [TS]

01:02:02   is not linear but either way like I bet [TS]

01:02:05   there are people out there i know one of [TS]

01:02:07   them with libraries that are bigger than [TS]

01:02:08   two terabytes and they will pay you more [TS]

01:02:10   money for more storage [TS]

01:02:12   I know that's weird sounding [TS]

01:02:13   but it will happen so it would be great [TS]

01:02:15   of Apple didn't wait another two years [TS]

01:02:17   before they offer the 3 terabyte option [TS]

01:02:18   for more money for money Apple when and [TS]

01:02:23   i mean i don't i don't see my my to [TS]

01:02:24   absolution changing anytime soon because [TS]

01:02:26   for this to change realistically anytime [TS]

01:02:29   soon you would either need the Photos [TS]

01:02:32   app to really have more pro-style [TS]

01:02:35   editing controls and and mechanics and [TS]

01:02:38   workflows possible which it really still [TS]

01:02:40   doesn't date it is it is better than I [TS]

01:02:42   photo used to be but not good enough for [TS]

01:02:45   like you know really Pro editing and it [TS]

01:02:47   seems like Apple is also not they're not [TS]

01:02:49   very interested in making it so and/or [TS]

01:02:53   you have to have lightroom get a lot [TS]

01:02:55   better at cloud stuff and given Adobe's [TS]

01:02:58   history there they've they've tried a [TS]

01:03:01   lightroom like or directly lightroom [TS]

01:03:03   cloud service something like three or [TS]

01:03:05   four times by now and they've all had [TS]

01:03:07   really big flaws and really big problems [TS]

01:03:09   so i think both of those are unlikely to [TS]

01:03:12   be solved in the foreseeable future [TS]

01:03:14   so we this is left undone and i will be [TS]

01:03:16   using two apps for a very long time as [TS]

01:03:18   probably a lot of people do or they just [TS]

01:03:21   put everything in Lightroom don't touch [TS]

01:03:22   photos [TS]

01:03:23   fair enough we still have predictions [TS]

01:03:26   for next week's event to cover but [TS]

01:03:28   there's been a big brouhaha about tax [TS]

01:03:32   stuff with apple in Ireland and we [TS]

01:03:34   should attempt to briefly cover it [TS]

01:03:38   kids this is when you look at the time [TS]

01:03:40   count that's not exactly how long this [TS]

01:03:42   chapter last so the short version which [TS]

01:03:46   was actually summarized really really [TS]

01:03:48   well in a box article that will have in [TS]

01:03:50   the show notes or an article on box i [TS]

01:03:52   should say the short version as i [TS]

01:03:54   understand it is the European Union the [TS]

01:03:56   European Union which has some amount of [TS]

01:03:59   governing power in general over Ireland [TS]

01:04:02   as a member of the European Union [TS]

01:04:03   although they have no power over [TS]

01:04:05   Ireland's tax that you attacked singh [TS]

01:04:07   rules and situation has come to the [TS]

01:04:10   conclusion that Apple in Ireland have [TS]

01:04:13   some sort of backroom deal that is [TS]

01:04:16   beneficial to apple and that's against [TS]

01:04:18   the non-competitive rules of the [TS]

01:04:20   European Union so guess what Apple Oh [TS]

01:04:22   somebody I guess Ireland Ireland 13 [TS]

01:04:25   billion euros something to that effect [TS]

01:04:29   interestingly one interestingly apple [TS]

01:04:32   says no freaking way but interestingly [TS]

01:04:34   Ireland is saying no freaking way which [TS]

01:04:38   you would think [TS]

01:04:39   here it is they're setting there they [TS]

01:04:41   are setup they are a loop that's a [TS]

01:04:44   basketball thing Marco they think they [TS]

01:04:46   have been given the value for 13 billion [TS]

01:04:49   euros and they're saying no thank you [TS]

01:04:53   and it appears that the best in well [TS]

01:04:57   that the super simple explanation for [TS]

01:04:59   that is they don't want to appear [TS]

01:05:01   unfriendly to the many corporations that [TS]

01:05:04   have based their European operations out [TS]

01:05:07   of Ireland because Ireland is the [TS]

01:05:09   Delaware of Europe seconds and so that's [TS]

01:05:15   the extraordinarily a bridge summary my [TS]

01:05:19   two cents on it I don't feel like Apple [TS]

01:05:21   has done anything wrong but I also not [TS]

01:05:24   so sure that these laws i'm not so sure [TS]

01:05:26   these laws are really correct as written [TS]

01:05:29   I i think both the American laws about [TS]

01:05:32   money and elsewhere and repatriating [TS]

01:05:34   that money seem kind of backwards messed [TS]

01:05:37   up the Irish laws from an outsider's [TS]

01:05:40   point of view seemed like maybe they [TS]

01:05:41   should be a little more aggressive on [TS]

01:05:42   collecting taxes but from what little [TS]

01:05:45   i've read on this and admittedly it has [TS]

01:05:47   not been a lot it doesn't feel to me [TS]

01:05:49   like apples done very much wrong they [TS]

01:05:51   just haven't exactly been forthcoming [TS]

01:05:53   with stuff that may be morally they [TS]

01:05:56   should have paid even if legally didn't [TS]

01:05:57   have to [TS]

01:05:58   so Marco it appears you have some [TS]

01:05:59   thoughts on this go ahead i'll meet mine [TS]

01:06:02   quick because the the more I learn about [TS]

01:06:04   this the less I have to say about it [TS]

01:06:05   basically it because it's very [TS]

01:06:07   complicated and it is there's multiple [TS]

01:06:10   sizes the I think the there's there's [TS]

01:06:13   like the European politics side of it [TS]

01:06:15   which that's politics you know it who [TS]

01:06:19   cares is it isn't really a tech topic [TS]

01:06:21   and then there's the there's the like us [TS]

01:06:24   basically tax haven side of it where you [TS]

01:06:27   have companies that if they if they [TS]

01:06:30   divert all their international sales to [TS]

01:06:32   international subsidiaries and don't [TS]

01:06:34   bring the cash back [TS]

01:06:35   in the u.s. they basically campaign know [TS]

01:06:38   us tax on it so Tim Cook is going around [TS]

01:06:40   basically like it obviously taking [TS]

01:06:43   advantage of all the same things that [TS]

01:06:44   most big companies do and and i think [TS]

01:06:48   they are honestly you know morally a [TS]

01:06:51   little tricky or worse but that is [TS]

01:06:55   what's legal and so there are these [TS]

01:06:58   giant loopholes and workarounds in our [TS]

01:07:00   tax code that allow big companies to do [TS]

01:07:03   this so the big companies do it Tim Cook [TS]

01:07:06   as the CEO is basically responsible for [TS]

01:07:10   doing this like if he didn't do stuff [TS]

01:07:12   like this of Apple didn't use all the [TS]

01:07:14   same tax saving schemes as other big [TS]

01:07:18   companies do that are perfectly legal [TS]

01:07:20   at least in the u.s. when you know [TS]

01:07:21   ignoring the European politics is for [TS]

01:07:23   now if Apple didn't do that all the same [TS]

01:07:25   things that the shareholders would have [TS]

01:07:27   Tim Cook's head because he basically [TS]

01:07:29   throwing away billions of dollars so [TS]

01:07:31   like em he is so basically as long as [TS]

01:07:33   these things continue to be the legal [TS]

01:07:35   way to do things in the u.s. that all [TS]

01:07:37   the big companies do apple has to them [TS]

01:07:39   as well [TS]

01:07:40   otherwise it could be fired or suit so [TS]

01:07:42   you know they they have to do it however [TS]

01:07:45   i don't believe that they have to do as [TS]

01:07:50   much campaigning as Tim Cook does about [TS]

01:07:52   have about how us must change tax code [TS]

01:07:56   to basically give them a huge tax break [TS]

01:07:58   to bring that money back in the hole [TS]

01:08:02   that the summary of this basically is [TS]

01:08:04   that if you keep them money offshore you [TS]

01:08:05   don't have to us tax if you bring it [TS]

01:08:07   back into the US from your international [TS]

01:08:08   subsidiaries you have to pay us tax on [TS]

01:08:11   it- whatever you paid in foreign tax so [TS]

01:08:13   the idea is you don't have to end up [TS]

01:08:15   paying like double tax you just have to [TS]

01:08:17   pay at least the US tax and if the [TS]

01:08:20   foreign taxes higher that's you that's [TS]

01:08:21   your deal with the foreign government [TS]

01:08:23   handle but you but if if you end up like [TS]

01:08:26   it pay something an apple basically is [TS]

01:08:28   paint no tax on all three were European [TS]

01:08:30   earnings and you know that's a [TS]

01:08:33   high-level overview i apologize i got [TS]

01:08:34   these details wrong and Tim Cook is [TS]

01:08:37   going around in in all these public [TS]

01:08:39   statements and and things basically [TS]

01:08:41   campaigning Washington and the public to [TS]

01:08:44   support him in this effort to have [TS]

01:08:46   corporate tax reform to let them bring [TS]

01:08:48   in the center [TS]

01:08:49   national money into the u.s. at a what [TS]

01:08:52   appears to be the goal of a [TS]

01:08:54   substantially reduced tax rate and me as [TS]

01:08:57   a person who makes money worldwide but [TS]

01:09:00   pays all my taxes in the great state of [TS]

01:09:02   New York I think that's BS i think if if [TS]

01:09:06   the companies can do all these little [TS]

01:09:09   tricks and stuff by basically applying [TS]

01:09:11   lots of accountants and lawyers and [TS]

01:09:13   loopholes to save themselves billions of [TS]

01:09:15   dollars [TS]

01:09:16   well that's you know I hope the [TS]

01:09:17   government fixes that because that's [TS]

01:09:18   that seems like a like a poor allocation [TS]

01:09:20   of the tax burden but for apple for Tim [TS]

01:09:25   Cook personally to use like the same [TS]

01:09:27   level of energy that he was using for [TS]

01:09:29   the FBI fight for our privacy to now [TS]

01:09:32   beasts to basically try to try to have [TS]

01:09:34   that same energy being spent on i demand [TS]

01:09:37   that we be able to bring our money back [TS]

01:09:39   into the US and get a discount on our [TS]

01:09:41   taxes no that's that's not that's not [TS]

01:09:45   morally defensible it's just not so I I [TS]

01:09:49   don't support tim cook in that I think [TS]

01:09:50   yeah if they want to do the same [TS]

01:09:52   loopholes fine but but don't go like you [TS]

01:09:55   know complaining in public that the US [TS]

01:09:58   needs to allow you to bring your money [TS]

01:09:59   back in and not pay your share of taxes [TS]

01:10:01   on it no you should pay your taxes the [TS]

01:10:03   way almost pay our taxes [TS]

01:10:05   well he's not the same as the rest of us [TS]

01:10:07   so i think most of his defense species [TS]

01:10:08   that have a giant multinational [TS]

01:10:09   corporation itself physical goods [TS]

01:10:11   overseas right you know when you're not [TS]

01:10:13   doing that but i think most of his [TS]

01:10:15   defense seems to be centered around the [TS]

01:10:16   idea that has been put forth by the the [TS]

01:10:19   european union and recommit that two [TS]

01:10:21   things that Apple did something like [TS]

01:10:24   wrong like a look like they're not going [TS]

01:10:26   to say legal because it wasn't legal but [TS]

01:10:28   like sneaking and wrong and that it was [TS]

01:10:33   sneaking wrong back then and there for [TS]

01:10:35   you all those back taxes like it was you [TS]

01:10:36   know you even though you and Ireland [TS]

01:10:38   agreed at the time that you agree and I [TS]

01:10:40   you didn't know this but it was against [TS]

01:10:42   are anti-competitive laws of the [TS]

01:10:43   European Union so we want you to pay not [TS]

01:10:46   from now on not going forward because [TS]

01:10:47   that's what I feel like that's between [TS]

01:10:48   the European Union and ireland in terms [TS]

01:10:50   of deciding like are some Irish tax laws [TS]

01:10:54   in violation of the anti-competitive [TS]

01:10:55   they basically don't want like one [TS]

01:10:57   country like that the Delaware of Europe [TS]

01:10:59   to be able to attract all the economic [TS]

01:11:02   tivity starving out the other countries [TS]

01:11:04   like they're trying to keep the [TS]

01:11:05   country's from undercutting each other [TS]

01:11:07   and hurting supposed to be a big you [TS]

01:11:08   know your opinion i suppose to have like [TS]

01:11:11   it [TS]

01:11:12   one country one stronger country [TS]

01:11:13   crushing another one with the power of [TS]

01:11:16   its tax subsidies for big companies or [TS]

01:11:18   whatever so that's what the EU is trying [TS]

01:11:20   to do it i think that's between you and [TS]

01:11:21   Ireland to figure out what the deal is [TS]

01:11:23   there but I think apples defenses we're [TS]

01:11:25   not a sneaky criminal and if you decided [TS]

01:11:29   if if you guys working out amongst [TS]

01:11:30   yourselves Ireland European whatever you [TS]

01:11:32   gotta do if you decide that going [TS]

01:11:33   forward this isn't going to be any more [TS]

01:11:34   change laws will comply with them but we [TS]

01:11:36   don't want to pay you back taxes on 13 [TS]

01:11:39   billion and the US laws being like you [TS]

01:11:41   pay the difference in taxes [TS]

01:11:43   I feel like it is kinda weird for [TS]

01:11:44   physical goods that you would that you [TS]

01:11:46   sell in a particular place like tax that [TS]

01:11:49   where if you sell something I'm sneaking [TS]

01:11:51   that you sell something in France and [TS]

01:11:52   you get tax word in Ireland that still [TS]

01:11:54   kind of messed up but the idea that the [TS]

01:11:57   only reasonable tax system is no matter [TS]

01:11:59   where you sell your things the entire [TS]

01:12:01   world because the corporate headquarters [TS]

01:12:03   is in the United States the UK united [TS]

01:12:05   states tax rates i think that is what [TS]

01:12:08   you need some amount of diversity in the [TS]

01:12:10   world you need to allow countries to [TS]

01:12:12   have lower tax rates to encourage [TS]

01:12:14   economic activity countries out of the e [TS]

01:12:16   i'm sure this point plenty of countries [TS]

01:12:18   elsewhere in the world that are not in [TS]

01:12:19   the EU and the not in the US that have [TS]

01:12:20   lower corporate tax rates writer like [TS]

01:12:22   Hong Kong or Singapore whatever on [TS]

01:12:25   singapore's a bad example but you can't [TS]

01:12:28   say that the US law is basically we [TS]

01:12:30   don't care what your tax laws are if you [TS]

01:12:31   are us cooperation and you make money [TS]

01:12:33   then we tax you with the u.s. rate I [TS]

01:12:36   don't care if we're taxing you want to [TS]

01:12:38   sale that was made from a store in some [TS]

01:12:40   other country to personal other country [TS]

01:12:42   I don't care about that i want your [TS]

01:12:44   money because your US corporations I [TS]

01:12:45   feel like that's not a great system and [TS]

01:12:48   it could lead to situations or people [TS]

01:12:49   don't want to incorporate the United [TS]

01:12:51   States and they incorporate in the the [TS]

01:12:52   global delaware instead or whatever but [TS]

01:12:55   anyway [TS]

01:12:56   Tim Cook's sort of anger about this I [TS]

01:12:59   feel like mostly is motivated by the [TS]

01:13:01   injustice of having to pay essentially [TS]

01:13:03   back taxes that are not Otis is that the [TS]

01:13:05   IRS says you know the tax law has been [TS]

01:13:06   in effect for the past decade we decided [TS]

01:13:08   that was actually not a good tax law so [TS]

01:13:10   we're changing it and by the way pretend [TS]

01:13:13   like it was in effect for the past 30 [TS]

01:13:14   years or so [TS]

01:13:15   and you all us all back taxes on so he's [TS]

01:13:18   going against that because i feel like [TS]

01:13:19   that's just not fair right who knows [TS]

01:13:20   about what actually happened but this [TS]

01:13:21   weekend later and the idea that they're [TS]

01:13:23   sneaky wrong which is borderline because [TS]

01:13:26   it's pretty sneaky like everything [TS]

01:13:28   having to do with tax avoidance is [TS]

01:13:29   pretty sneaky I don't think Tim Cook was [TS]

01:13:31   responsible for setting up these sneaky [TS]

01:13:33   laws but on the other hand it was like [TS]

01:13:34   sneaky between a corporation and a [TS]

01:13:37   government like again Ireland result for [TS]

01:13:39   it because they want their little point [TS]

01:13:41   zero zero five percent point zero zero [TS]

01:13:43   five percent of a whole jillion dollars [TS]

01:13:44   is way better than thirty-five percent [TS]

01:13:47   of zero dollars because apple doesn't do [TS]

01:13:48   its thing in Ireland anymore so it's [TS]

01:13:51   kind of gross and kind of sneaky between [TS]

01:13:53   Apple but I really don't think saying [TS]

01:13:55   that they are back taxes makes all that [TS]

01:13:57   much sense unless like I don't know what [TS]

01:13:59   the European process unless some sort of [TS]

01:14:01   process where they can prove that as it [TS]

01:14:04   turns out that said your that Ireland [TS]

01:14:06   law tax law was always against the EU [TS]

01:14:08   charter and then you gotta work [TS]

01:14:09   something out and that's repatriating [TS]

01:14:11   the money again I think it's kind of [TS]

01:14:14   weird that the US wants all the taxes to [TS]

01:14:16   be at the US right no matter where you [TS]

01:14:18   sell things I don't feel like that's a [TS]

01:14:19   scalable solution to a world economy but [TS]

01:14:24   if you're going to do that [TS]

01:14:25   yeah like I don't think it Tim Cook [TS]

01:14:27   saying we would like to bring that money [TS]

01:14:28   back but give us a lower rate a you can [TS]

01:14:32   say that only once but I think it's good [TS]

01:14:34   you know everyone wants to have lower [TS]

01:14:36   taxes and if your cooperation saying oh [TS]

01:14:38   we totally bring that money back is like [TS]

01:14:39   holding the Money ransom you know like [TS]

01:14:41   will bring these trillions back just [TS]

01:14:44   give us a lower rate and I feel like [TS]

01:14:46   that's not going to go anywhere and i'm [TS]

01:14:47   not quite sure why Tim Cook is lobbying [TS]

01:14:49   for that much because honestly does he [TS]

01:14:52   need that money back into the US or is [TS]

01:14:53   that just trying to be like an olive [TS]

01:14:54   branch like we totally bring that money [TS]

01:14:56   back and I can imagine the u.s. lowering [TS]

01:14:58   the rate and that Apple going now stick [TS]

01:15:01   with your 0.5% thanks a lot about [TS]

01:15:03   changing law and everything but your [TS]

01:15:05   point zero zero five percent versus that [TS]

01:15:07   like I don't know the details of why he [TS]

01:15:08   would want to bring it back specifically [TS]

01:15:10   um but as for like the you know the [TS]

01:15:13   shareholders are people get angry at him [TS]

01:15:14   cook you know he does that all the time [TS]

01:15:16   in terms of like tank telling the [TS]

01:15:18   shareholder if you don't you know we [TS]

01:15:19   know that this is not the best way to [TS]

01:15:21   make money but if you don't like it like [TS]

01:15:23   you know the the soul you know [TS]

01:15:24   sustainable energy or whatever may be [TS]

01:15:27   your human rights [TS]

01:15:28   many times you said to investors if [TS]

01:15:30   you're in it for the short term and you [TS]

01:15:31   just want to do this thing just get out [TS]

01:15:33   of the stock that's plenty of other [TS]

01:15:34   stocks you can buy right so i think it's [TS]

01:15:36   totally within reason for him to take a [TS]

01:15:38   similar ethical stand on taxable here he [TS]

01:15:41   just hasn't chosen to that I think it's [TS]

01:15:44   two parts at one [TS]

01:15:45   I don't think this is the same category [TS]

01:15:46   as a you know it's I don't think it [TS]

01:15:49   really is a moral issue maybe too mild [TS]

01:15:52   ethical issue but morally speaking the [TS]

01:15:54   environment and human rights are way [TS]

01:15:56   bigger causes than arguing over whether [TS]

01:15:58   tax dollars go to the EU or to the US or [TS]

01:16:01   whatever it is just it's not quite the [TS]

01:16:04   same thing is just shuffling paper [TS]

01:16:06   around and I know there are consequences [TS]

01:16:07   of all that and so on and so forth but i [TS]

01:16:09   think it's hard to draw a really [TS]

01:16:10   straight line between arguments between [TS]

01:16:13   these giants about tax law and things [TS]

01:16:15   like the environment which is like not [TS]

01:16:17   doesn't doesn't recognize borders and [TS]

01:16:19   shared by the entire planet and has [TS]

01:16:21   reparable effects and then it just seems [TS]

01:16:24   like him personally and Apple as a [TS]

01:16:27   corporation don't feel like they are on [TS]

01:16:29   the wrong side of this if they did they [TS]

01:16:31   felt like they were on the wrong side of [TS]

01:16:33   this and needed to change something they [TS]

01:16:34   would change it and they would go to the [TS]

01:16:35   shareholders and say if you don't like [TS]

01:16:36   us doing this then fine but you know [TS]

01:16:39   it's I think you don't get to be the CEO [TS]

01:16:41   of one of the biggest companies in the [TS]

01:16:42   world by doing things saying like I know [TS]

01:16:45   our tax rated x but I just don't feel [TS]

01:16:47   it's absolutely right for us to pay that [TS]

01:16:49   lotion we should place an extra taxes [TS]

01:16:50   this year like there's a limit to how [TS]

01:16:52   far people's minds can bend you are [TS]

01:16:57   around the other way I think your mind [TS]

01:16:59   eventually bends to the idea that [TS]

01:17:01   voluntarily pay more taxes than you need [TS]

01:17:03   to do is not a good business plan and so [TS]

01:17:06   that's that i think that's that's where [TS]

01:17:08   they're at and maybe in his deathbed [TS]

01:17:09   typical say you know what I should've [TS]

01:17:11   brought that money back and just pay the [TS]

01:17:12   taxes so that the the bridge that [TS]

01:17:14   collapsed with my loved one on it didn't [TS]

01:17:16   collapse because America doesn't know [TS]

01:17:18   how to fund infrastructure anymore and [TS]

01:17:19   if only i had given 20 trillion more [TS]

01:17:21   dollars that it would have helped but I [TS]

01:17:24   don't know I I feel like it's you know [TS]

01:17:26   he's a company man he's a good CEO and [TS]

01:17:29   this does not rise to the level of human [TS]

01:17:31   rights for the environment [TS]

01:17:32   well then that's why i like it kind of [TS]

01:17:34   rubs me the wrong way like how much cook [TS]

01:17:36   is kind of trying to bring the public to [TS]

01:17:39   support him on this like he he's kind of [TS]

01:17:41   bring this [TS]

01:17:41   into the public with his statement but [TS]

01:17:44   both the armed with a care right darlin [TS]

01:17:46   things and the and the corporate tax [TS]

01:17:48   rate in a repatriation thing and it just [TS]

01:17:51   seems like like it this is one of those [TS]

01:17:54   reminders like that for all the good [TS]

01:17:56   things they do and for all the good [TS]

01:17:57   people their apple is still a giant [TS]

01:18:00   corporation and the CEO of it is still [TS]

01:18:02   the CEO of a giant corporation and one [TS]

01:18:03   of his main jobs is trying to pay as [TS]

01:18:05   little tax as possible trying to do all [TS]

01:18:07   sorts of tricks and it's a little bit [TS]

01:18:08   weird [TS]

01:18:09   it's a little bit weird that that cook [TS]

01:18:11   seems to not sense how bring this in [TS]

01:18:16   public is probably not a good use of [TS]

01:18:17   that political capital but he is not i [TS]

01:18:20   don't think he's bringing it to the [TS]

01:18:21   public to convince them over to my side [TS]

01:18:23   he's doing damage control what he [TS]

01:18:24   doesn't want for if you didn't say [TS]

01:18:26   anything what comes out of this is just [TS]

01:18:27   the repeated idea that Apple cheats on [TS]

01:18:29   his taxes and had doesn't pay its fair [TS]

01:18:31   share and that's what he's coming out to [TS]

01:18:32   say is like we don't cheat [TS]

01:18:34   we're not doing things against long [TS]

01:18:35   repair fair share that's always his [TS]

01:18:37   message and if he wasn't being attacked [TS]

01:18:39   like it he said nothing and just said [TS]

01:18:41   like whatever the public doesn't care [TS]

01:18:42   about this eventually we'll just be [TS]

01:18:44   common knowledge that Apple cheats on [TS]

01:18:45   his taxes and doesn't pay its fair share [TS]

01:18:47   right and that's what that's why he [TS]

01:18:49   feels like he has to go to the public [TS]

01:18:50   now I think in general the public [TS]

01:18:51   doesn't care about that much anyway but [TS]

01:18:53   i still think if he didn't come out and [TS]

01:18:55   argue strongly against it [TS]

01:18:57   fast forward five years and you make a [TS]

01:18:59   joke with Apple not paying taxes and [TS]

01:19:00   everyone go home yeah although the [TS]

01:19:02   company doesn't pay taxes where when in [TS]

01:19:04   reality all corporations don't pay taxes [TS]

01:19:06   because they all use the polls & but [TS]

01:19:07   only Apple would be getting the bad PR [TS]

01:19:08   you know I mean so I feel like that's [TS]

01:19:10   why he is so vocal about it but in the [TS]

01:19:15   grand scheme of things I don't think as [TS]

01:19:16   a campaign to convince the world to call [TS]

01:19:18   your Congressman two-level repatriated [TS]

01:19:20   trillion dollars like that's I don't [TS]

01:19:21   think that anybody's head our final [TS]

01:19:25   sponsor this week is 0 [TS]

01:19:27   our homes are coming online speaker [TS]

01:19:29   thermostats lightbulbs front door lock [TS]

01:19:31   security cameras everything increasingly [TS]

01:19:33   services like Netflix Hulu and Spotify [TS]

01:19:35   ER where return for home entertainment [TS]

01:19:37   Wi-Fi is a foundation for all it is [TS]

01:19:40   probably the technology we depend on [TS]

01:19:41   most outside of the smartphone which [TS]

01:19:43   itself that depend on Wi-Fi the core [TS]

01:19:45   utility of 21st century home is Wi-Fi [TS]

01:19:47   now Wi-Fi despite this importance is [TS]

01:19:50   broken [TS]

01:19:51   imagine if electricity didn't reach [TS]

01:19:52   certain parts of your house or were like [TS]

01:19:54   intermittent [TS]

01:19:55   or week in others now that would be [TS]

01:19:56   ridiculous for electricity but this is [TS]

01:19:58   the status quo for Wi-Fi Wi-Fi is just [TS]

01:20:01   not reliable enough when you just have [TS]

01:20:03   one router in your house now 0 was [TS]

01:20:07   designed to change all this year [TS]

01:20:08   manufacturers a single device a small [TS]

01:20:10   elegant box about the size of an apple [TS]

01:20:12   TV and with their dead simple iphone app [TS]

01:20:15   you put zeros throughout your entire [TS]

01:20:16   home you can have as many as you want [TS]

01:20:18   you can have just one but you really [TS]

01:20:20   should have is like two or three and [TS]

01:20:22   they're at makes it really simple here's [TS]

01:20:24   what you do you plug the first one into [TS]

01:20:25   your internet connection and acts as a [TS]

01:20:27   router and then you plug in the other [TS]

01:20:30   hero or heroes anywhere else in your [TS]

01:20:32   house that you want more coverage don't [TS]

01:20:34   you try to spread them out and the Apple [TS]

01:20:35   help you help you do this try to spread [TS]

01:20:36   them out in a way that's effective kind [TS]

01:20:38   of covers the whole house they all talk [TS]

01:20:39   to each other and they form this this [TS]

01:20:41   giant mesh we're just covers your entire [TS]

01:20:43   house and Wi-Fi and the other ones that [TS]

01:20:46   aren't the first one don't have to be [TS]

01:20:47   plugged into it too like ethernet or any [TS]

01:20:49   other kind of interconnections between [TS]

01:20:50   power and communicate wirelessly with [TS]

01:20:53   the other ones it is really great and it [TS]

01:20:54   is so much easier to cover multi-room [TS]

01:20:57   houses any kind of large apartment and [TS]

01:21:00   anyhow really large areas is so much [TS]

01:21:03   better covering it with multiple access [TS]

01:21:05   points then trying to get just one super [TS]

01:21:06   high powered one we all know this you [TS]

01:21:08   know the Wi-Fi industry has tried to [TS]

01:21:10   sell these like rather than 60 antennas [TS]

01:21:13   on them in his eldest this one this time [TS]

01:21:14   we'll cover your whole house and never [TS]

01:21:16   does that doesn't work so ero changes [TS]

01:21:19   all this in a really simple easy way it [TS]

01:21:21   is so easy to use their app is great [TS]

01:21:23   their service is great to help you [TS]

01:21:25   manage all this stuff and it's just [TS]

01:21:27   incredibly effective so check it out [TS]

01:21:29   there is there so much I can't even fit [TS]

01:21:30   on one read there's parental controls [TS]

01:21:33   there's AB notifications there's there's [TS]

01:21:35   so much cool stuff they recommend about [TS]

01:21:37   10 per thousand square feet so the [TS]

01:21:39   average house we need two or three of [TS]

01:21:41   them three pack is a good starting point [TS]

01:21:43   for most people and if you don't like it [TS]

01:21:45   is a 30-day money-back guarantees you [TS]

01:21:47   can always return one or more of euros [TS]

01:21:49   if you have not needing it or not liking [TS]

01:21:50   it so check it out the ero Wi-Fi system [TS]

01:21:53   is currently rated at 4.4 stars and [TS]

01:21:55   Amazon with over 750 reviews people are [TS]

01:21:57   really liking this thing go 20 calm and [TS]

01:22:00   use promo code ATP at checkout to get [TS]

01:22:03   overnight shipping [TS]

01:22:04   thank you very much to ero for [TS]

01:22:06   sponsoring our show [TS]

01:22:07   so as we record it is friday the second [TS]

01:22:13   of September on the seventh which is [TS]

01:22:16   this coming Wednesday convenient for [TS]

01:22:19   recording next week actually didn't even [TS]

01:22:21   think about that on the 7th apple will [TS]

01:22:23   be releasing ostensibly the new version [TS]

01:22:27   of the iphone which may or may not be [TS]

01:22:29   called the iphone 7 I it may or may not [TS]

01:22:33   be announcing a new Apple watch and may [TS]

01:22:35   or may not be releasing new macbook pros [TS]

01:22:39   thoughts on what's happening here [TS]

01:22:43   I think we can all agree that there will [TS]

01:22:45   be a new iphone 7 I or well as sorry i [TS]

01:22:49   shouldn't say that will be the name just [TS]

01:22:51   that there will be a new phone [TS]

01:22:52   it sounds to me like it's pretty much a [TS]

01:22:54   given that it will not have a headphone [TS]

01:22:57   jack [TS]

01:22:58   I think I'm okay with that [TS]

01:23:01   I'm not thrilled by it but I'm not [TS]

01:23:04   devastated by it either [TS]

01:23:05   well this was the genius of apples PR [TS]

01:23:07   campaign over the CD / basically the [TS]

01:23:09   entire spring and summer of what seems [TS]

01:23:12   it you know in retrospect and even seen [TS]

01:23:14   a bit like at the time it seemed like a [TS]

01:23:16   very good controlled league campaign to [TS]

01:23:18   do you set expectations accordingly and [TS]

01:23:21   get all the anger out slowly over the [TS]

01:23:23   whole summer so because like we started [TS]

01:23:25   hearing pretty clear rumors about there [TS]

01:23:27   being no headphone jack from pretty well [TS]

01:23:29   known sources like pretty good [TS]

01:23:31   publications a long time ago so we've [TS]

01:23:34   had the whole summer to get all mad [TS]

01:23:35   about it and now we just kind of all [TS]

01:23:37   accepted as okay well yeah this this for [TS]

01:23:39   iphone headphone jack and like had we [TS]

01:23:42   not known ahead of time by so long and [TS]

01:23:44   so much time to get mad about it and [TS]

01:23:45   then finally accept it that was that all [TS]

01:23:48   that anger would have blown up like next [TS]

01:23:51   week at the same time that Apple's using [TS]

01:23:53   a design for the third year in a row for [TS]

01:23:55   the first time and by the way if I may [TS]

01:23:56   say again not a particularly great [TS]

01:23:58   design so like imagine the anger that [TS]

01:24:02   would have played and like the negative [TS]

01:24:03   press coverage that would have had the [TS]

01:24:05   product that now probably won't happen [TS]

01:24:07   as much as I said there will be some but [TS]

01:24:10   i think it won't be nearly as much as it [TS]

01:24:12   would have been if we hadn't been able [TS]

01:24:14   to still better from like Bloomberg and [TS]

01:24:16   rumor sites for the entire summer [TS]

01:24:18   yeah that's they did the best they could [TS]

01:24:19   with that but there's a limit because i [TS]

01:24:22   think almost everybody who goes to buy [TS]

01:24:25   this new iphone will not know that it [TS]

01:24:27   has no i phone jack [TS]

01:24:28   so even though we are and the tech media [TS]

01:24:31   which is really operative who's [TS]

01:24:32   interested in the story at all months [TS]

01:24:34   before comes out the tech media and us [TS]

01:24:35   to read the text me diya so that's all [TS]

01:24:37   they can do right so we're kind of [TS]

01:24:38   getting over it and learning to deal [TS]

01:24:40   with it and had all things pieces about [TS]

01:24:42   and so on and so forth but we are tiny [TS]

01:24:45   tiny sliver of the huge number of people [TS]

01:24:47   who buy iphones and pretty much to a [TS]

01:24:49   first approximation every single person [TS]

01:24:51   who goes into by the new iphone in you [TS]

01:24:53   know the first month or two is going to [TS]

01:24:55   be like because the headphone jack until [TS]

01:24:57   the story goes on your local news and [TS]

01:25:00   USA Today and all sort of mainstream [TS]

01:25:03   media that people watch and eventually [TS]

01:25:06   the public will know what Apple has [TS]

01:25:08   spared is the incredible outraged that [TS]

01:25:11   would have been if it was a surprise to [TS]

01:25:12   us like Parker said like if the tech [TS]

01:25:14   press also was blindsided by it it would [TS]

01:25:16   just be way bigger but i still think [TS]

01:25:18   there will be a fairly substantial like [TS]

01:25:21   speaking of tonight's show monologue [TS]

01:25:23   worthy gags about the new iphone not [TS]

01:25:26   having a headphone port among the [TS]

01:25:28   regular people who don't follow exactly [TS]

01:25:30   what the new iphone is going to be [TS]

01:25:31   months in advance and they learn about [TS]

01:25:33   it when the product is announced and [TS]

01:25:35   when it's really stuck everybody else [TS]

01:25:36   and you know and they'll get over it in [TS]

01:25:38   their own time so i think i'll do the [TS]

01:25:40   best i could with the PR campaign but [TS]

01:25:42   we'll see if you know this is another if [TS]

01:25:45   their timing is right on this or if the [TS]

01:25:47   future you know [TS]

01:25:48   yeah times on their side or their the [TS]

01:25:50   wave of the future as they have been so [TS]

01:25:52   many other times i could tell you that [TS]

01:25:53   the other day I tried to plug my [TS]

01:25:55   headphones into the Lightning port on my [TS]

01:25:56   iphone 6 obviously I've been stewing in [TS]

01:25:59   the idea that there won't be a headphone [TS]

01:26:00   port for a long time but I felt like I [TS]

01:26:03   got so far is that i touch the two of [TS]

01:26:05   them together that's how far i gotta [TS]

01:26:06   start pressing buttons touch the two of [TS]

01:26:08   them together and it's mostly because [TS]

01:26:09   I've been thinking for you know six [TS]

01:26:11   months now or whatever it's been about [TS]

01:26:13   what it might be like to have lightning [TS]

01:26:15   had headphones and several months ago I [TS]

01:26:17   think I sort of can't my my personal [TS]

01:26:19   peace with this issue is that what all i [TS]

01:26:22   ever connect to my phone are the earpods [TS]

01:26:24   that came with it if it comes with your [TS]

01:26:27   pods that I can still plug into the [TS]

01:26:28   phone which it will find [TS]

01:26:30   fine then then like with how does this [TS]

01:26:32   tech person that just me personally not [TS]

01:26:34   saying this is a good idea of the [TS]

01:26:35   product so on and so forth just for me [TS]

01:26:36   personally I really don't think this [TS]

01:26:38   change will affect my life except if [TS]

01:26:41   this means that the extra number of [TS]

01:26:43   plugs and unplugs where my lightning [TS]

01:26:45   port faster but other than that I think [TS]

01:26:47   my life won't change [TS]

01:26:48   i'm also very interested in the you know [TS]

01:26:50   rumors of the wireless you know your pod [TS]

01:26:55   things and like i'll try them out i'll [TS]

01:26:57   probably buy a pair of those and give [TS]

01:26:58   Apple some money because i'm kind of [TS]

01:27:01   fascinated by that idea but some yeah I [TS]

01:27:04   don't know how much they come across [TS]

01:27:05   gonna be a hundred bucks I got some some [TS]

01:27:07   person sent one to the show like someone [TS]

01:27:09   who works for like this headphone [TS]

01:27:10   company whose name I can't remember [TS]

01:27:11   things like 801 something anyway but [TS]

01:27:14   they're not why your list they have a [TS]

01:27:16   wire from one year to the other [TS]

01:27:17   that's what most of the divya and and on [TS]

01:27:20   that wire is the little clicker thing [TS]

01:27:21   and I know they're not wired in the same [TS]

01:27:24   way but that why are going from one year [TS]

01:27:26   to the other even though give me a place [TS]

01:27:28   for the clicker still feels weird like [TS]

01:27:30   it doesn't feel like their wireless [TS]

01:27:32   demanded they are like there's no [TS]

01:27:34   connection to my jacket pocket and the [TS]

01:27:35   thing but it still feels strange to me [TS]

01:27:36   so the rumors IC of Apple Apple [TS]

01:27:39   potentially having one that literally [TS]

01:27:40   don't have any wires on them [TS]

01:27:42   I might give that a try if it's an apple [TS]

01:27:44   thing but yeah I think I think we've [TS]

01:27:47   covered the headphone jack and the [TS]

01:27:48   iphone 7 as as has been the case with [TS]

01:27:50   most iphones for the past many years we [TS]

01:27:53   feel like we know every single thing [TS]

01:27:54   about it we feel like seen pictures of [TS]

01:27:55   the actual phone we know the only thing [TS]

01:27:58   we never know is like alright 8n [TS]

01:28:00   system-on-a-chip will be better how much [TS]

01:28:03   better because that's the type of stuff [TS]

01:28:05   doesn't leak is knowing slicing the top [TS]

01:28:07   of the ship and analyzing and I before [TS]

01:28:09   the thing but well they're there was [TS]

01:28:10   that one leak bank thing that should be [TS]

01:28:12   about fifty percent faster but i don't [TS]

01:28:15   know if that was real but they have made [TS]

01:28:17   jumps of that magnitude before so it is [TS]

01:28:20   certainly plausible that maybe it might [TS]

01:28:21   be three percent faster would be cool [TS]

01:28:23   yeah I'm with and we get those you know [TS]

01:28:25   those diapers like is it gonna be way [TS]

01:28:26   faster a little bit faster this one [TS]

01:28:28   seems like another way faster one [TS]

01:28:29   obviously but i think that is you know [TS]

01:28:32   it's kind of boring for these apple [TS]

01:28:34   events especially like the next year [TS]

01:28:36   event the 10th anniversary super-thin [TS]

01:28:37   phone with like no home button and the [TS]

01:28:39   touch ID in the screen and the edge to [TS]

01:28:41   edge like all those rumors are already [TS]

01:28:42   getting it'll be kinda [TS]

01:28:43   said if we know everything about that [TS]

01:28:45   one before it comes out because i would [TS]

01:28:46   like to be surprised again but this [TS]

01:28:48   seems last night to be possible when you [TS]

01:28:50   sell so many hundreds of millions of [TS]

01:28:52   these things it's impossible for the [TS]

01:28:54   horizontal weekend for the September [TS]

01:28:56   event like that's that's the main that's [TS]

01:28:58   the headline attraction every single [TS]

01:29:00   rumor story has been saying don't look [TS]

01:29:03   for max don't bother is not the type of [TS]

01:29:04   event so humble bar i'm already prepared [TS]

01:29:07   not to see anything about Max I'm fine [TS]

01:29:09   with the max coming out at a later date [TS]

01:29:11   see that you can't let it go and I mean [TS]

01:29:15   everyone everyone is basically saying [TS]

01:29:17   like everyone basically reporting as [TS]

01:29:18   fact now so which sounds a lot like [TS]

01:29:20   controlled weeks they're basically [TS]

01:29:21   reporting as fact that like there won't [TS]

01:29:23   be max announced that will come later [TS]

01:29:25   which of course max are always coming [TS]

01:29:28   later it'll be great next year so it i'm [TS]

01:29:32   not ready to let go yet if only because [TS]

01:29:34   so we're pretty sure it's not gonna be [TS]

01:29:36   iPads this event and the phone updates [TS]

01:29:39   are going to be not that major like you [TS]

01:29:41   know not taking a lot of stage time [TS]

01:29:44   so what that is going full time in the [TS]

01:29:45   event like this is going to take small [TS]

01:29:47   event yeah but that's how it sounds like [TS]

01:29:49   Apple watch 2 is also pretty minor [TS]

01:29:51   yeah but two minor things you know first [TS]

01:29:53   of all you know how long they can go on [TS]

01:29:54   about anything they'll be showing you a [TS]

01:29:56   million pictures from the dual camera [TS]

01:29:57   i'll be showing you all the graphs and [TS]

01:30:00   the probably show iOS 10 features again [TS]

01:30:03   yes like it will take a lot and then the [TS]

01:30:05   watch this is the deep first and only [TS]

01:30:07   significant update to the watch besides [TS]

01:30:09   new colors new bands they're gonna spend [TS]

01:30:11   a long time and that especially if it's [TS]

01:30:12   God we have these a these tips from the [TS]

01:30:15   not from the tipsters and on tips are [TS]

01:30:17   tips so who knows the problem is that i [TS]

01:30:19   couldn't even more fabricated stories [TS]

01:30:21   about USB hubs not stickered yeah is [TS]

01:30:25   that is the watch to GPS which would be [TS]

01:30:28   big deal of it was true because they're [TS]

01:30:29   all we've been hearing from from random [TS]

01:30:32   rumors over the past year or so is that [TS]

01:30:34   Apple has learned that pretty much the [TS]

01:30:36   most important function of the Apple [TS]

01:30:38   watch for those customers [TS]

01:30:39   fitness-related and people are still [TS]

01:30:41   wearing fits and stuff so you know if [TS]

01:30:43   you have gps on the watch itself that [TS]

01:30:45   really changes the story in terms of [TS]

01:30:47   applications to keep track of your [TS]

01:30:48   exercising do running if you want to do [TS]

01:30:50   without your phone if that's the thing [TS]

01:30:52   that people want to do improve [TS]

01:30:53   waterproofing which is hard to imagine [TS]

01:30:55   because Craig Hockenberry is taking [TS]

01:30:56   something like [TS]

01:30:57   250 swims in the ocean with his watching [TS]

01:30:59   is still going strong so affect the [TS]

01:31:01   waterproofing is already pretty good at [TS]

01:31:02   the apple watch one will stick around a [TS]

01:31:04   lower price which is totally Tim Cook [TS]

01:31:06   thing to do but the other hand sounds [TS]

01:31:07   crazy to me but you know he's left the [TS]

01:31:10   cpu dies fast spot ya more health [TS]

01:31:14   sensors did not make it again this is [TS]

01:31:16   the persistent rumor when the first [TS]

01:31:17   watch came out everyone's like Oh Apple [TS]

01:31:18   wanted to do like a blood oxygenation [TS]

01:31:20   but they couldn't because of FDA blah [TS]

01:31:22   blah and second watch same set of rumors [TS]

01:31:25   I want to do more health stuff but they [TS]

01:31:26   couldn't because lots of regulation so [TS]

01:31:28   they can you just run that remember [TS]

01:31:29   forever because if there's never any new [TS]

01:31:31   healthier like he just missed it ever [TS]

01:31:33   wanted to do it but couldn't not you [TS]

01:31:34   know show me the features or don't and a [TS]

01:31:38   potential for an improved model with [TS]

01:31:39   more health sensors and six months but [TS]

01:31:41   it could be pushed into Christmas 2017 [TS]

01:31:43   so yeah you're right the apple watch [TS]

01:31:45   tumors if even if you believe every [TS]

01:31:47   single one of these tips gps i think [TS]

01:31:50   that's that's pretty big if they can [TS]

01:31:52   make it thinner but i doubt they will [TS]

01:31:53   that's kinda big but I fully believe [TS]

01:31:56   that we can make a full presentation out [TS]

01:31:58   of a new line of phones and new line of [TS]

01:32:02   watches and not mention anything about [TS]

01:32:04   the mac lab and let's not forget that we [TS]

01:32:07   also have watching us three which I i [TS]

01:32:09   know was covered at WCC but it's a big [TS]

01:32:12   change and especially if the watch sales [TS]

01:32:15   have been kind of myth which is what [TS]

01:32:16   everyone seems to think whether or not [TS]

01:32:18   that's true who knows then they're going [TS]

01:32:20   to want to really do a pretty [TS]

01:32:22   significant dog-and-pony show about [TS]

01:32:23   watch us three there could be a video [TS]

01:32:25   game demo or 2 on iOS 10 with new [TS]

01:32:28   hardware i mean we could easily what [TS]

01:32:30   you're saying Marco is how could a [TS]

01:32:32   teepee have an episode of more than 20 [TS]

01:32:33   minutes when there's nothing going on in [TS]

01:32:35   the middle of the summer [TS]

01:32:36   well we always find a way and Apple came [TS]

01:32:39   to going back a step though I a couple [TS]

01:32:42   things one I would love for my Apple [TS]

01:32:46   watch to be thinner this is the only [TS]

01:32:47   Apple device that i can think of that I [TS]

01:32:51   really really really want to be thinner [TS]

01:32:53   very much so and I think that there's [TS]

01:32:56   plenty of room to give even while [TS]

01:32:58   keeping the same band compatibility [TS]

01:32:59   which I think they will and i think [TS]

01:33:00   that's important i think there's plenty [TS]

01:33:03   of room for them to give on the [TS]

01:33:04   thickness and if the battery life stays [TS]

01:33:07   roughly the same and to be honest if the [TS]

01:33:10   performance only gets a little bit [TS]

01:33:12   faster i'm okay with that but i would [TS]

01:33:14   love for this thing to be thinner [TS]

01:33:16   I have another question I want to ask [TS]

01:33:17   you guys for market yes it sounds like [TS]

01:33:18   you have some thoughts on this [TS]

01:33:19   I just I i was i'm laughing everytime i [TS]

01:33:22   see like there's there's the recent [TS]

01:33:24   rumor is that the battery for the watch [TS]

01:33:27   got like thirty percent bigger and [TS]

01:33:29   better they achieve this in roughly the [TS]

01:33:31   same test cases by making that some of [TS]

01:33:32   the screen components smaller and it's [TS]

01:33:35   like this is the one Apple product that [TS]

01:33:38   doesn't really need more bad it looks [TS]

01:33:40   like the 42 millimeter getting three [TS]

01:33:43   getting a third percent bigger battery [TS]

01:33:44   life it's like this like it already has [TS]

01:33:46   an amazing battery life well they said [TS]

01:33:48   that the battery got three percent [TS]

01:33:50   bigger but if you have gps on it doesn't [TS]

01:33:52   mean it gets any better battery life [TS]

01:33:54   well that's true although it to be [TS]

01:33:56   fairly and I think this wasn't connected [TS]

01:33:57   we're talking about like what that is [TS]

01:33:59   likely to be or maybe with upgrade we're [TS]

01:34:01   basically like you know assuming this [TS]

01:34:03   thing its GPS it's probably going to be [TS]

01:34:05   a lot like the like the workout mode [TS]

01:34:07   something where like you can turn it on [TS]

01:34:08   you have to explicitly turn around when [TS]

01:34:09   you want it and it's probably not going [TS]

01:34:11   to be on the vast majority of the time [TS]

01:34:12   you probably got like really explicitly [TS]

01:34:15   called us there i turn on gps now it'll [TS]

01:34:17   be the absolute i think the app will be [TS]

01:34:19   able to control like for you go for your [TS]

01:34:20   our long-run you start your workout and [TS]

01:34:22   your app gets to run the whole time [TS]

01:34:23   because they have the new feature and [TS]

01:34:24   watching us three where you get the run [TS]

01:34:26   for during the whole workout and that [TS]

01:34:28   will slaughter your battery if you run [TS]

01:34:29   for an hour or two if they don't give [TS]

01:34:31   you a 3-percent bigger battery so I feel [TS]

01:34:33   like it'll probably a wash [TS]

01:34:34   yeah well you probably although it's [TS]

01:34:36   it'll be a massive boom people don't use [TS]

01:34:38   gps so there you go [TS]

01:34:40   yeah well this is why like I really i [TS]

01:34:42   would love it if Apple it basically [TS]

01:34:44   split the sport features off into their [TS]

01:34:46   into the sport model and and also had [TS]

01:34:50   like maybe take the steel model and make [TS]

01:34:51   it like a little bit like dressy or one [TS]

01:34:53   like the office one you know I get like [TS]

01:34:55   that's the one you wear to work or you [TS]

01:34:57   know whatever and like the a few if you [TS]

01:35:00   don't need some of the more advanced [TS]

01:35:01   fitness features like some of the more [TS]

01:35:02   some of the more advanced sensors or GPS [TS]

01:35:05   maybe you can get a thinner steel watch [TS]

01:35:08   for couple hundred dollars more looks a [TS]

01:35:10   little bit nicer and then the sport [TS]

01:35:11   model which is most of the ones are [TS]

01:35:12   selling anyway can still get all this [TS]

01:35:14   big bulky stuff and some of the more [TS]

01:35:16   fitness stuff because that's what that's [TS]

01:35:17   what most of its buyers actually want so [TS]

01:35:20   you want a day watching and i watch got [TS]

01:35:21   it to go back to the phone [TS]

01:35:24   but if they go with killing the [TS]

01:35:27   headphone jack which seems pretty much [TS]

01:35:29   given i have seen a rumor that answers [TS]

01:35:32   this question but i'm curious what you [TS]

01:35:34   guys thinking let's start with John do [TS]

01:35:36   you think that they will include some [TS]

01:35:39   sort of lightning to what is the acronym [TS]

01:35:42   for the headphone port trrs thank you [TS]

01:35:46   a lightning to TRS adapter will that be [TS]

01:35:49   in the box yes or no John siracusa i had [TS]

01:35:52   to put money out i would say no just [TS]

01:35:54   because I feel like they're gonna [TS]

01:35:55   include earpods with a lightning [TS]

01:35:57   connector on the end in the box because [TS]

01:35:59   they've been so you know sort of stingy [TS]

01:36:01   with the accessories lately [TS]

01:36:03   the only thing that's making me question [TS]

01:36:05   a little bit is how they would sell the [TS]

01:36:09   presumed passive no chips required [TS]

01:36:12   connector for the adapter because apple [TS]

01:36:14   doesn't like to sell things for less [TS]

01:36:16   than like 20 colors and can i sell that [TS]

01:36:19   adapter for ten and twenty dollars it's [TS]

01:36:21   so tiny the box it would be like the [TS]

01:36:23   size of the old ipod shuffle tried a [TS]

01:36:25   stick of gum box maybe even smaller like [TS]

01:36:28   i don't i don't know how they sell this [TS]

01:36:30   in a way like even just thinking of like [TS]

01:36:32   shrinkage as they call the industry or [TS]

01:36:34   theft like how can you even have these [TS]

01:36:36   like it would have a tic-tac dispenser [TS]

01:36:38   that just dumps these things out like oh [TS]

01:36:39   that's the only thing that's making its [TS]

01:36:41   like they don't sell the pin that the [TS]

01:36:43   the sim card removal tool right don't [TS]

01:36:45   sell that separately they also don't [TS]

01:36:46   give it to you in the Box a lot of times [TS]

01:36:47   with the phone but that's the type of [TS]

01:36:49   thing like it's so freaking small and so [TS]

01:36:51   cheap [TS]

01:36:52   how can you sell it separately and yet [TS]

01:36:54   they must sell it separately if they [TS]

01:36:56   don't included in the box but i still [TS]

01:36:57   think that the smart money is on no [TS]

01:37:00   adapter in the box but but it's [TS]

01:37:01   borderline the chat room is saying [TS]

01:37:03   exactly what i was going to say to you [TS]

01:37:05   which is they sold the mac safe 122 [TS]

01:37:06   adapter which was ten dollars right and [TS]

01:37:08   that was super weird right there was [TS]

01:37:10   super-weird a really small and like not [TS]

01:37:12   a normal did they do and also way fewer [TS]

01:37:15   people need magsafe 122 there then could [TS]

01:37:17   potentially be in the market is a [TS]

01:37:19   difficult obviously every third party in [TS]

01:37:20   the world will also sell this adapter [TS]

01:37:22   but they're not Apple like it's weird [TS]

01:37:24   for Apple to be selling something anyway [TS]

01:37:26   yeah just lightning lightning your pods [TS]

01:37:28   in the box also as tips are set in the [TS]

01:37:30   chat like even if they include the box [TS]

01:37:32   still to sell it separately as people [TS]

01:37:34   going to need more than one [TS]

01:37:35   well that's interesting play now I'm [TS]

01:37:37   it's just it's just a weird product for [TS]

01:37:38   apple celery I guess that this upper 30 [TS]

01:37:40   bucks it's not weird anymore than then [TS]

01:37:42   they'll be screaming I mean you know I [TS]

01:37:44   am I'm as much of a skeptic and cynical [TS]

01:37:47   about about the the temple care of Apple [TS]

01:37:49   being super profitable and driving a [TS]

01:37:50   protection sales and everything however [TS]

01:37:52   even I don't think it's gonna be 30 [TS]

01:37:54   bucks i think it's going to be your 10 [TS]

01:37:56   or 20 i would agree with that but Marco [TS]

01:37:58   do you think it will be in the box yes [TS]

01:38:00   for now [TS]

01:38:00   no because and I think Gruber mentioned [TS]

01:38:02   this at one point basically be like if [TS]

01:38:04   they put in the box that's kind of an [TS]

01:38:06   admission that it's necessary and I [TS]

01:38:08   don't see them i don't see them doing [TS]

01:38:09   that I see them saying this this is the [TS]

01:38:12   future [TS]

01:38:13   up until today I would have said no [TS]

01:38:14   freaking way that adapter will be in the [TS]

01:38:16   box however there was a post that I saw [TS]

01:38:19   earlier today I'm never gonna be able to [TS]

01:38:20   find the link and I'm sorry but there's [TS]

01:38:22   a post with a picture of like it [TS]

01:38:26   included many different things but one [TS]

01:38:28   of the things that included was a list [TS]

01:38:29   of the things in the iphone 7 box and [TS]

01:38:31   believe it was called iphone 7 and this [TS]

01:38:33   was like a korean model gosh only knows [TS]

01:38:36   it was legit or not but it said in there [TS]

01:38:38   lightning powered earpods that wasn't [TS]

01:38:41   exactly raising but something like that [TS]

01:38:42   and a lightning to headphone jack [TS]

01:38:44   adapter in the box which I would be very [TS]

01:38:47   surprised if that's the case i think the [TS]

01:38:50   same that that it is a position of [TS]

01:38:52   strength to or a a a strong move not to [TS]

01:38:56   include it and it is an admission of [TS]

01:38:57   weakness if they do include it [TS]

01:39:00   I I think it's more customer-friendly to [TS]

01:39:02   include it but that's not generally [TS]

01:39:04   apple style when it comes to these sorts [TS]

01:39:06   of things i'll be surprised if it's in [TS]

01:39:07   there but the the smoke is saying that [TS]

01:39:10   it will be well that there is more [TS]

01:39:12   perilous Thunderbolt Display than you [TS]

01:39:13   think there's no thunderbolt display [TS]

01:39:14   thing was alright so we're so on this [TS]

01:39:16   thing and all of a sudden we sell a line [TS]

01:39:20   of computers that don't work with the [TS]

01:39:22   little magsafe things dangling off of it [TS]

01:39:24   right so we have one product and that [TS]

01:39:27   product is fine as it is but we [TS]

01:39:29   introduce another product here like some [TS]

01:39:30   it doesn't match up with the rest of our [TS]

01:39:32   product line so now we have to pick one [TS]

01:39:34   of these products to ship with a thing [TS]

01:39:36   that says okay when you buy this one you [TS]

01:39:38   can be weird to buy thunderbolt display [TS]

01:39:40   and not to be able to use it with the [TS]

01:39:42   brand new laptop that you just brought [TS]

01:39:43   along side for selling them [TS]

01:39:44   simultaneously or you know one no matter [TS]

01:39:47   what [TS]

01:39:47   you didn't say you buy a laptop then you [TS]

01:39:49   know six months later use the [TS]

01:39:50   Thunderbolt Display has been out for [TS]

01:39:51   like a hundred years for the cancel it [TS]

01:39:53   six months later you by a thunderbolt [TS]

01:39:54   display you'd be surprised what I put [TS]

01:39:56   this laptop not that long ago and now [TS]

01:39:58   i'm buying a brand new monitor doesn't [TS]

01:40:00   work with it so Apple wants his products [TS]

01:40:02   to work together well apple owns beats [TS]

01:40:04   say you buy beats headphones and then a [TS]

01:40:07   couple months later the new iPhone comes [TS]

01:40:09   out it feels kind of weird you just [TS]

01:40:11   bought this product in an apple store [TS]

01:40:12   from basically apple that you can't use [TS]

01:40:15   with your just purchased iphone i think [TS]

01:40:18   it was asking what you thought they [TS]

01:40:19   would do I think they should include [TS]

01:40:21   adapter in the box especially if it's [TS]

01:40:22   passive and that's why I feel like it's [TS]

01:40:24   borderline where it's not the apple [TS]

01:40:25   thing to do but if they were it's kind [TS]

01:40:29   of like the bumper case like they didn't [TS]

01:40:31   include the bumper case with the iphones [TS]

01:40:32   but eventually save jobs like find your [TS]

01:40:34   bumpers [TS]

01:40:35   free bumpers for everybody like it's a [TS]

01:40:36   nice way to make a problem go away to [TS]

01:40:38   have liked to have a ready answer when [TS]

01:40:40   they say but you took away the headphone [TS]

01:40:42   ports like that becomes in the box i was [TS]

01:40:45   still bet against it but it's a lot [TS]

01:40:46   closer than I would have thought of [TS]

01:40:48   never having cute on the side past [TS]

01:40:50   several months I would not bet super [TS]

01:40:52   heavily on it but it's still my bet [TS]

01:40:54   no I i agree that they should put in the [TS]

01:40:57   box for customer statins they really [TS]

01:41:00   should and that would help a lot [TS]

01:41:02   dig that would change the story from [TS]

01:41:04   you're making us by new crap to most [TS]

01:41:08   people just saying oh now we have to use [TS]

01:41:10   other things in the box which it's still [TS]

01:41:12   a crap move i think overall remove this [TS]

01:41:15   jack for apparently no need in this [TS]

01:41:18   generation but at least that would that [TS]

01:41:22   would really change like it would make [TS]

01:41:24   it so that when you get these things no [TS]

01:41:26   matter what kind of headphones use with [TS]

01:41:28   your phone [TS]

01:41:28   you don't have to buy anything extra [TS]

01:41:30   just to use your headphones with your [TS]

01:41:31   new iphone and that that is a big [TS]

01:41:33   satisfaction when at the purchase point [TS]

01:41:36   like it makes it less and less like a [TS]

01:41:37   quote money grab this phrase I hate that [TS]

01:41:39   everyone loved so much like if they make [TS]

01:41:42   you spend after twenty bucks to adapt [TS]

01:41:44   you're using happens to it people are [TS]

01:41:45   getting that they're not gonna get mad [TS]

01:41:46   as twenty bucks for that matter that [TS]

01:41:48   this that it's like an add-on at all the [TS]

01:41:50   other confused the moneygram as the [TS]

01:41:51   storage [TS]

01:41:52   happy graduation [TS]

01:41:54   and there's a money-grab here it's not [TS]

01:41:56   that bad phones yeah and all all the [TS]

01:41:58   rumors finally they're saying now what [TS]

01:42:00   now that now that even 32 is becoming [TS]

01:42:02   too small apple is finally upgrading [TS]

01:42:04   from 16 to 32 for the baseline I was [TS]

01:42:07   like we could we could move to 32 but [TS]

01:42:10   it's 32 painfully small for people let's [TS]

01:42:12   wait another year and then finally say [TS]

01:42:13   we can move to 32 is 32 painfully small [TS]

01:42:15   it's actually painful small for a lot of [TS]

01:42:17   customers good let's move to announce [TS]

01:42:18   yeah we actually uh a couple year [TS]

01:42:21   yeah but about a year ago or so a year [TS]

01:42:23   and a half we bought my mother-in-law [TS]

01:42:25   and ipad air or air to it was her first [TS]

01:42:28   ipad so and we weren't sure she was [TS]

01:42:30   going to use it that much so we only got [TS]

01:42:32   the base 32 model they were preparing [TS]

01:42:34   for a trip and you want to like put [TS]

01:42:35   videos on here I'm like juggling like [TS]

01:42:38   are we going down this video for the [TS]

01:42:39   plane now we're going to delete this [TS]

01:42:40   video and try to figure how to download [TS]

01:42:41   this video in SD instead of HD which is [TS]

01:42:44   not easy and it's like all this juggling [TS]

01:42:47   like that 32 turns out every 32 kind of [TS]

01:42:49   isn't big enough anymore either [TS]

01:42:51   so it is definitely time to move to 32 [TS]

01:42:54   and the thing is with the storage that [TS]

01:42:56   mean I'm glad they're moving out from 16 [TS]

01:42:58   because it is 16 and come on it's [TS]

01:42:59   getting ridiculous but you know like [TS]

01:43:01   Google photos just had that and i think [TS]

01:43:04   was a TV ad or an online and had you [TS]

01:43:07   know ridiculing apple for like four [TS]

01:43:09   people who basically own iPhones and [TS]

01:43:11   take a lot of pictures and eventually [TS]

01:43:12   you can take your picture it says your [TS]

01:43:14   storage is full [TS]

01:43:15   yep and this is a thing that happens [TS]

01:43:16   because people take lots of pictures [TS]

01:43:18   with their phones and people don't [TS]

01:43:20   delete the pictures when they're done [TS]

01:43:21   with them because they you know like why [TS]

01:43:23   would I believe them i want to keep my [TS]

01:43:24   photos and apple has iCloud photo [TS]

01:43:26   library that supposed to take care of [TS]

01:43:28   this for you in practices I've seen in [TS]

01:43:30   person for myself many many times the [TS]

01:43:32   so-called of the sort of like optimized [TS]

01:43:34   storage form of you automatically does [TS]

01:43:36   not do it when you want to you fill it [TS]

01:43:38   up and you're like okay optimized [TS]

01:43:40   storage now like what signal you need [TS]

01:43:42   that money from the operating system i [TS]

01:43:44   am full i can't find him on my things [TS]

01:43:46   like I was trying to import photos into [TS]

01:43:48   into the like I'm in the photos [TS]

01:43:49   application [TS]

01:43:50   I mean maybe photos isn't something that [TS]

01:43:52   optimize the story maybe it's the [TS]

01:43:53   background ubiquity demon or whatever [TS]

01:43:54   you know who knows but I'm trying to [TS]

01:43:57   import photos nose and trying to import [TS]

01:43:59   photos tells me there's not enough room [TS]

01:44:00   like you but I have the optimized [TS]

01:44:02   storage then check just purged a bunch [TS]

01:44:03   of old pictures like do it now and [TS]

01:44:05   there's no button that says please [TS]

01:44:07   three of my disk space by purging [TS]

01:44:08   pictures because that's not the Apple [TS]

01:44:09   way and so I'm just stuck there staring [TS]

01:44:11   at going well you won't let me in Port [TS]

01:44:13   offers SD card i have optimized storage [TS]

01:44:15   check do I just like wait 24 hours to [TS]

01:44:17   see if you'll you know that do i import [TS]

01:44:19   just enough photos to push the disc [TS]

01:44:21   basket storage limit like in practice it [TS]

01:44:24   doesn't work the way it's supposed to [TS]

01:44:25   work but Apple really believes their [TS]

01:44:27   tech line up their bullet points like oh [TS]

01:44:29   we have appt thinning and we have you no [TS]

01:44:32   incremental download the content and we [TS]

01:44:34   have the optimizing storage for photos [TS]

01:44:37   library and for movies and iCloud [TS]

01:44:39   storage and backup so 16 is actually not [TS]

01:44:41   that bad remember that story for the [TS]

01:44:42   past few years and make those shoulders [TS]

01:44:43   said in person one of the things like 16 [TS]

01:44:45   doesn't seem like a lot but we have all [TS]

01:44:46   these amazing technologies for [TS]

01:44:47   compression and putting the files from [TS]

01:44:49   your desktop and mac mac OS Sierra up to [TS]

01:44:51   get like yeah you've got all that stuff [TS]

01:44:53   but a you're fighting back against the [TS]

01:44:55   tide like people use more stories as [TS]

01:44:57   time goes on period that's just the way [TS]

01:44:58   it works and be that crap doesn't work [TS]

01:45:01   like it doesn't work when you need it [TS]

01:45:02   most when you run out of space there is [TS]

01:45:05   no recourse there's no button to push [TS]

01:45:06   and doesn't magically automatically [TS]

01:45:08   imagine what it does to give you is the [TS]

01:45:09   dialogue that says you're out of space [TS]

01:45:11   and people don't know how to deal with [TS]

01:45:12   that and then you get the dialogues [TS]

01:45:13   about you can't fit your your backup on [TS]

01:45:15   iCloud as you increase the storage so [TS]

01:45:17   Apple in theory has tech surrounding [TS]

01:45:20   this that that mitigated somewhat but in [TS]

01:45:22   practice that google ad was you know [TS]

01:45:25   right on the money like this is a real [TS]

01:45:27   experience that people had google google [TS]

01:45:29   is promising out there delivering cuz I [TS]

01:45:31   musical photos writing on the back up [TS]

01:45:32   what Google is promising is hey we have [TS]

01:45:35   essentially exactly the same system but [TS]

01:45:37   are actually works and we won't give you [TS]

01:45:39   the out of space because I imagine [TS]

01:45:40   google on the fly when you're taking a [TS]

01:45:42   picture it doesn't remember started [TS]

01:45:44   immediately delete one photo and stores [TS]

01:45:45   it like it does it does a better job of [TS]

01:45:47   what apple says it's going to do so [TS]

01:45:50   yeah about Apple's its cloud storage [TS]

01:45:52   situation remains brought but if they're [TS]

01:45:55   finally ready to move to 32 [TS]

01:45:57   that's good if they give their getting [TS]

01:46:00   rid of 64 is going to be 3 2 128 256 [TS]

01:46:02   actually I think that's actually not [TS]

01:46:05   that bad because I feel like 64 should [TS]

01:46:08   be the minimum anyway and I like the [TS]

01:46:09   fact that you have to jump from 32 to [TS]

01:46:11   128 but it's going to make apples [TS]

01:46:13   storage pricing cheering look really [TS]

01:46:17   weird like 32 128 is an extra hundred [TS]

01:46:19   dollars [TS]

01:46:20   well but already did yeah i know it [TS]

01:46:22   always like that anyway you just try to [TS]

01:46:23   think about that's that's where the [TS]

01:46:25   magic money is made it closely with the [TS]

01:46:27   tears are also some real-time follow-up [TS]

01:46:29   i forgot that my ipad is also 32 gigs [TS]

01:46:32   like when i ordered my 9.7 ipad pro in [TS]

01:46:36   may I I wasn't sure if I would take to [TS]

01:46:39   the ipad against I've been I've been [TS]

01:46:41   kind of an ipad skeptic for so long so i [TS]

01:46:44   also just got 32 and that was a big [TS]

01:46:45   problem when i tried a lot of videos on [TS]

01:46:47   it for the plane ride home from WTC and [TS]

01:46:50   there's basically no space to do [TS]

01:46:52   anything useful [TS]

01:46:53   I think mine might be as well I don't [TS]

01:46:55   have it next to me additional real-time [TS]

01:46:57   follow-up panda 19 and the chat was able [TS]

01:46:59   to find the link i was thinking of it [TS]

01:47:01   was on macrumors it looking at this [TS]

01:47:03   again I mean it's super sketchy but it [TS]

01:47:04   reads includes iphone 7 plus earpods [TS]

01:47:07   with lightning contact connector [TS]

01:47:08   lightning to headphone jack adapter [TS]

01:47:10   lightning to USB cable and USB power [TS]

01:47:12   adapter you know it's real [TS]

01:47:15   yeah we don't say and by the way [TS]

01:47:17   speaking of announcements that the [TS]

01:47:18   alternate show idea have because very [TS]

01:47:21   frequently i think of the show we have a [TS]

01:47:22   pretty bad track record of predicting [TS]

01:47:24   what's going to be announced but the the [TS]

01:47:25   alternate theory of what could play out [TS]

01:47:26   in the show is a new iphone nothing [TS]

01:47:30   about Apple watch and the new laptops [TS]

01:47:32   even though they're not shipping until [TS]

01:47:33   much later that is that also a show that [TS]

01:47:35   I could totally envision because it that [TS]

01:47:37   I think that fits into the thing of like [TS]

01:47:38   hey we spent all this time talking about [TS]

01:47:40   Apple watch to Apple didn't say a single [TS]

01:47:41   word about it i don't think it's likely [TS]

01:47:43   but that's the feeling you know usually [TS]

01:47:44   have to redo one of the shows that i [TS]

01:47:46   watch the actual announcement like [TS]

01:47:47   that's nothing like what we talked about [TS]

01:47:48   we totally got this wrong i'm pretty [TS]

01:47:50   sure there'll be a new iphone though [TS]

01:47:51   well the question is like are they going [TS]

01:47:53   to have multiple events this fall or not [TS]

01:47:55   and it's I think so far most of the [TS]

01:47:58   rumblings point2 know it's a single [TS]

01:47:59   event again so if there's only one [TS]

01:48:01   public event to keep in mind that this [TS]

01:48:04   is like their whole like holiday [TS]

01:48:05   shopping lineup that they're debuting [TS]

01:48:06   here too so I think the watch has it has [TS]

01:48:10   it has to be a part of it like even if [TS]

01:48:12   all they have to announce is a [TS]

01:48:14   relatively minor boost of like you know [TS]

01:48:16   what if if watch to isn't even called [TS]

01:48:19   watch to or if it's you know if it is [TS]

01:48:21   coming down plays ago now the new Apple [TS]

01:48:24   watch the new Apple watch has gps at the [TS]

01:48:26   you know 499 price point and then the [TS]

01:48:28   cheaper ones don't have any know what [TS]

01:48:30   however they do it there the watch is [TS]

01:48:32   going to be there because they're going [TS]

01:48:33   to [TS]

01:48:33   have maybe new colors are gonna [TS]

01:48:34   definitely have new bands you know [TS]

01:48:36   because it's like bands are seasonal [TS]

01:48:38   it's fashion and lots of wonderful [TS]

01:48:39   attachment profit sales they're so like [TS]

01:48:41   yeah there's gonna be a new bands for [TS]

01:48:42   the fall in the winter your debut all [TS]

01:48:45   those at this event so unless the only [TS]

01:48:47   reason they wouldn't is if they're doing [TS]

01:48:48   another event later in the fall like [TS]

01:48:50   right before big shopping season really [TS]

01:48:52   starts but I think they're probably not [TS]

01:48:54   and if they're not this event is gonna [TS]

01:48:56   be full of stuff to buy for the holiday [TS]

01:48:58   season and if max don't fit [TS]

01:49:00   that's really sad to me but I i could [TS]

01:49:02   see there's no chance the Washington [TS]

01:49:05   being mentioned and there's no chance [TS]

01:49:06   you're going to new bands of the thing I [TS]

01:49:08   the reason I mentioned like not showing [TS]

01:49:11   the Washington showing the laptops are [TS]

01:49:13   just showing laptops at all even though [TS]

01:49:14   they're totally not ready or whatever is [TS]

01:49:15   just because the whole whole whole LED [TS]

01:49:18   strip thing on the keyboard [TS]

01:49:20   it just seems like the type of feature [TS]

01:49:21   that apple would like to announce makino [TS]

01:49:24   Jason Snelling six colors said you know [TS]

01:49:26   they would just do individual press [TS]

01:49:27   briefings that's a possibility which [TS]

01:49:29   have done many times before that's true [TS]

01:49:30   but I feel like they've never done this [TS]

01:49:32   sort of private embargoed individual [TS]

01:49:34   press briefings for feature that's so [TS]

01:49:37   demands a demo and video like a pet [TS]

01:49:42   presentation directly from apple to the [TS]

01:49:44   public about this feature because [TS]

01:49:45   normally they would have those briefings [TS]

01:49:46   about you know a new version of the OS [TS]

01:49:49   that's been seen several times before [TS]

01:49:50   but here's the official release or [TS]

01:49:51   oriented you know that the first look at [TS]

01:49:54   a new OS or new laptops that are better [TS]

01:49:57   in a couple ways but I just feel like [TS]

01:49:58   Apple should be the one to present [TS]

01:50:01   whatever this weird new strip thing is [TS]

01:50:03   because it is weird like even though pc [TS]

01:50:04   makers already doing it and everything [TS]

01:50:05   like it's something I feel like they [TS]

01:50:07   need to explain to the public in some [TS]

01:50:09   way and it even if it's not going to [TS]

01:50:13   ship until like november it would be [TS]

01:50:15   great if they put just maybe maybe just [TS]

01:50:17   a 15 inch pro like just pick one model [TS]

01:50:19   to to explain this whole strip thing and [TS]

01:50:22   then dole out the other ones and also [TS]

01:50:24   save them from the indignity of pretty [TS]

01:50:28   much missing another narration like you [TS]

01:50:30   know that the kb or can be like I don't [TS]

01:50:32   know how to pronounce it that the one [TS]

01:50:34   that comes after sky like has been [TS]

01:50:35   announced in the laptop chips are coming [TS]

01:50:37   out and everything so if Apple weights [TS]

01:50:39   much longer by the time they get there [TS]

01:50:41   they're you know brand-new sky like a [TS]

01:50:44   macbook pros out [TS]

01:50:45   the next one will already be shipping in [TS]

01:50:49   pcs that's that's not a great look after [TS]

01:50:52   all complaints about them being behind [TS]

01:50:54   like hey we finally did it we updated [TS]

01:50:56   the macbook pros I I'm okay Blake isn't [TS]

01:50:59   that big of a deal i maybe people are [TS]

01:51:00   something like all the reason waiting so [TS]

01:51:01   long as they're gonna have to be like [TS]

01:51:03   guys don't hold your breath [TS]

01:51:04   yeah yeah yeah just give me like you [TS]

01:51:06   know like sky like was announced a long [TS]

01:51:08   time ago to we don't have that yet you [TS]

01:51:10   know that entails announcements this is [TS]

01:51:12   the same process so there's you know but [TS]

01:51:14   but it's visit is a chance if they you [TS]

01:51:18   know [TS]

01:51:18   wait a really long time for them to ship [TS]

01:51:20   but Katie like all gives you is [TS]

01:51:22   essentially better hardware decoding of [TS]

01:51:24   video which is great but i don't know [TS]

01:51:25   how much of that Apple uses and a clock [TS]

01:51:28   speed boost because they're have the [TS]

01:51:30   process allows them to crank it up a [TS]

01:51:32   little bit that their new FinFET process [TS]

01:51:33   or whatever I was all great and good [TS]

01:51:35   Apple should totally use it as soon as [TS]

01:51:36   they possibly can but at this point i [TS]

01:51:38   would say even if you're going to be a [TS]

01:51:40   little embarrassed just shit but you've [TS]

01:51:41   got shipped the freakin sky like things [TS]

01:51:43   just do it and then upgrade them to keep [TS]

01:51:45   it like as soon as you can because [TS]

01:51:46   however like whatever you whatever Apple [TS]

01:51:49   feels about like whatever is holding us [TS]

01:51:50   back that the status quo has to be worse [TS]

01:51:53   of selling these ancient macbook pros as [TS]

01:51:56   new to anybody who needs one right now [TS]

01:51:59   like that's that's got to be worse than [TS]

01:52:00   what everyone is back but anyway who [TS]

01:52:02   knows we'll find out one thing actually [TS]

01:52:04   do wanna mention before we leave the mac [TS]

01:52:05   topic hear the rumor has come out in the [TS]

01:52:07   last couple days that they that in [TS]

01:52:10   addition to the macbook pros also a [TS]

01:52:11   macbook air update to us bc and I wanted [TS]

01:52:16   to to tie this into something else there [TS]

01:52:20   was maybe a few months back I forget [TS]

01:52:22   when or who i think it might have been [TS]

01:52:25   ming-chi Kuo who said one room report [TS]

01:52:27   from somebody who is actually fairly [TS]

01:52:29   well source that kind of got blown over [TS]

01:52:31   that basically said that we know we're [TS]

01:52:33   going to see like new macbook pros [TS]

01:52:35   everything and they also going to be a [TS]

01:52:36   new 13-inch macbook one and at the time [TS]

01:52:40   we were like what that doesn't make [TS]

01:52:41   sense [TS]

01:52:42   and now there's a rumor that there's [TS]

01:52:45   gonna be a new macbook air update to us [TS]

01:52:47   bc so I think this is the same computer [TS]

01:52:50   talking about and we've heard nothing [TS]

01:52:52   about this in the tips are so I'm you [TS]

01:52:53   know this who knows what whether there's [TS]

01:52:55   anything behind this but I think this is [TS]

01:52:58   the [TS]

01:52:59   rumors about the same thing that it that [TS]

01:53:01   it basically is an update to the macbook [TS]

01:53:03   air to the 13-inch macbook air maybe [TS]

01:53:06   only three you know maybe the 11 isn't [TS]

01:53:08   even included maybe it's only up to 13 [TS]

01:53:09   macbook air and maybe it goes retina [TS]

01:53:12   because you know Apple obviously tried [TS]

01:53:15   but the macbook one and to a large [TS]

01:53:17   degree succeeded but not that they tried [TS]

01:53:20   to replace the macbook air line with [TS]

01:53:22   something even more extreme even thinner [TS]

01:53:25   even lighter even more limited but turns [TS]

01:53:27   out the macbook air is really great in a [TS]

01:53:29   lot of ways the macbook one can't or [TS]

01:53:31   won't be because it's too limited to you [TS]

01:53:34   know in size or thermals or whatever [TS]

01:53:36   else it can achieve the same thing with [TS]

01:53:38   the macbook air so what if Apple kind of [TS]

01:53:42   was was pressured by really customer [TS]

01:53:45   reaction to the macbook one and what if [TS]

01:53:47   they are going to continue kind of a [TS]

01:53:50   macbook air maybe you even if just [TS]

01:53:52   called a macbook and it happens to be a [TS]

01:53:53   13-inch one day that's that there were [TS]

01:53:55   no it's not going to be an error in in [TS]

01:53:58   anything it's just going to be a 13-inch [TS]

01:53:59   macbook one and when it starts engine [TS]

01:54:02   suddenly we have more room for USB ports [TS]

01:54:04   right yeah so maybe the new 13-inch [TS]

01:54:07   macbook one quote which is really an air [TS]

01:54:09   maybe that uses the macbook air internal [TS]

01:54:11   platform those wonderful 15-watt cpus [TS]

01:54:14   that are an amazing balance of battery [TS]

01:54:16   life and performance and Intel's lineup [TS]

01:54:18   that right now with what we know today [TS]

01:54:20   so far like with if the if the macbook [TS]

01:54:22   air goes away [TS]

01:54:24   there's nowhere for those cpus to be [TS]

01:54:25   using the lineup and that would be such [TS]

01:54:27   a waste because they're so good they're [TS]

01:54:28   so compelling and such a great balance [TS]

01:54:30   of what most people need a performance [TS]

01:54:32   and battery life to have that be [TS]

01:54:35   available in a 13-inch enclosure that is [TS]

01:54:37   macbook air like and macbook like you [TS]

01:54:40   know somewhere in the middle there and [TS]

01:54:41   to have those nice cpus it would have to [TS]

01:54:43   have a fan of course because you know [TS]

01:54:45   those are a lot hotter cpus but that's [TS]

01:54:47   ok for a lot of people everyone seems to [TS]

01:54:49   get along with just find whatever the [TS]

01:54:50   laptop that would be I think an amazing [TS]

01:54:52   product to basically be a new 13-inch [TS]

01:54:55   retina air [TS]

01:54:56   I've been assuming this whole time that [TS]

01:54:58   rather than continue the macbook air [TS]

01:55:00   line in a new way that they were going [TS]

01:55:02   to just shrink the knife of proline [TS]

01:55:04   enough so that the 13-inch macbook pro [TS]

01:55:06   would get small enough to replace their [TS]

01:55:08   chair but if they really want to keep 13 [TS]

01:55:11   chair [TS]

01:55:12   shape and slot in the lineup going they [TS]

01:55:15   really could do a better job at keeping [TS]

01:55:16   it going [TS]

01:55:17   we're in with the same shapes and Susan [TS]

01:55:18   now with with that line of processors [TS]

01:55:20   and internals and general shape and size [TS]

01:55:22   rather than trying to make the Pro [TS]

01:55:24   smaller with the pros hotter cpus more [TS]

01:55:27   ports marketability cetera so if this is [TS]

01:55:29   true that there's gonna be a macbook air [TS]

01:55:31   update and if that old rumor of a [TS]

01:55:33   13-inch macbook is actually tied [TS]

01:55:35   interact with the same thing [TS]

01:55:36   this could be an amazing computer that [TS]

01:55:38   comes out of nowhere [TS]

01:55:39   well I think you're kind of forgetting [TS]

01:55:41   the Tim Cook factor which is the only [TS]

01:55:42   reason I'm still entertaining the ideas [TS]

01:55:44   of the silly macro care continuation I [TS]

01:55:46   mean like this is the Apple look at the [TS]

01:55:48   ipad 2 around for a long time this is [TS]

01:55:50   the Apple that is rumored to keep the [TS]

01:55:51   apple watch one around like what kind of [TS]

01:55:54   company we continue selling and non [TS]

01:55:56   retina macbook air with us bc upgrade [TS]

01:55:58   because you could make that machine put [TS]

01:56:00   you know you said put 15 want cpu and [TS]

01:56:02   they're with us be supporting chipset [TS]

01:56:04   keep the same old crappy non retina [TS]

01:56:06   screen just keep selling it what kind of [TS]

01:56:07   monster would do that [TS]

01:56:09   Tim Cook sample scripts i'm not saying [TS]

01:56:12   it's like to redeem it seems really but [TS]

01:56:14   I can't totally discount it because [TS]

01:56:16   that's that's the thing like hey people [TS]

01:56:19   want to keep it it's like its like the [TS]

01:56:21   taking father away from the whole speeds [TS]

01:56:23   and feeds I think that's plenty of [TS]

01:56:24   product categories where like we have a [TS]

01:56:28   popular model and you just keep selling [TS]

01:56:30   I think I just retweeted a someone [TS]

01:56:32   posted a link to a teardown of you know [TS]

01:56:37   that the shaver in a barbershop shave [TS]

01:56:39   like the back your neck with the little [TS]

01:56:41   getting rid of getting you know share my [TS]

01:56:43   whole head but that John yeah well they [TS]

01:56:44   go one of those this 50 years old and [TS]

01:56:47   then the same device it purchased in [TS]

01:56:50   2016 so 50 years yeah and it and they [TS]

01:56:53   pull apart to see whether like they're [TS]

01:56:55   different on the inside because we've [TS]

01:56:56   all seen that share our entire lives [TS]

01:56:57   right it's a fifty-year-old product and [TS]

01:56:59   if you look at modern they don't look [TS]

01:57:00   that much different guess what on the [TS]

01:57:01   inside they're also not that different [TS]

01:57:03   lots of industries sell a product that [TS]

01:57:06   becomes popular like if people keep [TS]

01:57:08   buying it [TS]

01:57:09   let's keep selling it what don't have it [TS]

01:57:11   ain't broke don't fix it right and like [TS]

01:57:13   yeah but computers you can have to [TS]

01:57:15   update those right and today's apples [TS]

01:57:18   like do you may be upselling on retina [TS]

01:57:21   screen for really really [TS]

01:57:22   a lot of people keep buying it like [TS]

01:57:24   people love that macbook air and yeah [TS]

01:57:26   they would like the computer the Marco [TS]

01:57:27   described even better but you know cheap [TS]

01:57:29   we can make that are now we paid for the [TS]

01:57:31   tooling and those non-retina screens are [TS]

01:57:32   dirt cheap and like you know how long [TS]

01:57:35   can we sell the ipad 2 well education [TS]

01:57:38   blah blah blah you know what people [TS]

01:57:39   suckers keep buying this thing why are [TS]

01:57:41   we bend over backwards to make new [TS]

01:57:43   models you know so I don't like that [TS]

01:57:44   idea [TS]

01:57:45   I don't think that's a good fit for [TS]

01:57:46   technology but Apple in recent years has [TS]

01:57:49   really been stretching the bounds of [TS]

01:57:51   what we previously considered a [TS]

01:57:53   reasonable thing for technology company [TS]

01:57:55   to do and their argument would be like [TS]

01:57:57   look we keep selling them like you think [TS]

01:58:00   it's bad Oh boohoo [TS]

01:58:02   does your opinion matter customers are [TS]

01:58:03   buying them right and then are you know [TS]

01:58:05   counter is obviously like your long-term [TS]

01:58:06   customers had a stupid you're being [TS]

01:58:08   penny wise pound foolish blah blah we [TS]

01:58:09   can all have that debate but that's the [TS]

01:58:12   only reason I'm not one hundred percent [TS]

01:58:13   discount the idea of an actual product [TS]

01:58:15   labeled macbook air with a non retina [TS]

01:58:17   screen the USBC port on the side would [TS]

01:58:20   just be an abomination that no one wants [TS]

01:58:22   to see lurched out onto the stage in any [TS]

01:58:24   sort of presentation but i live in fear [TS]

01:58:27   of it [TS]

01:58:28   well that's always there was no way we [TS]

01:58:30   mentioned the event we just kind of [TS]

01:58:31   happened and how they would hope nobody [TS]

01:58:32   notices website where people would [TS]

01:58:35   notice [TS]

01:58:35   like what not right now but the more i [TS]

01:58:38   think about this the more I think [TS]

01:58:40   well obviously we know that there's a [TS]

01:58:42   September seventh and then but what I [TS]

01:58:43   think about that is it will be an iphone [TS]

01:58:45   which everyone pretty much knows i think [TS]

01:58:47   there will be Apple watch two and i [TS]

01:58:49   think that will be the whole then I [TS]

01:58:51   think there will be a brief event after [TS]

01:58:55   this that will include a possibly [TS]

01:58:58   entirely reflect / refreshed line of [TS]

01:59:01   macbooks and maybe even desktop max I'm [TS]

01:59:07   looking at you Minnie and pro god help [TS]

01:59:09   us all right on and also the new monitor [TS]

01:59:14   that that it seems is probably coming [TS]

01:59:18   I think we'll be at that second event [TS]

01:59:20   what I'm not sure of as if the ipad will [TS]

01:59:22   get the updates [TS]

01:59:23   I don't think so and even if it does [TS]

01:59:25   where would that fall you know do they [TS]

01:59:28   put that in in next week's event because [TS]

01:59:30   its iOS do they put it in the [TS]

01:59:34   phantom later on event because it's a [TS]

01:59:36   computer replacement i'm not really sure [TS]

01:59:38   but i would guess iphone and matt and [TS]

01:59:43   watch next week which is not a very [TS]

01:59:46   controversial gas but i do think there [TS]

01:59:48   will be an event that is after that that [TS]

01:59:51   has many different kinds of Max and a [TS]

01:59:54   new display and whatever else they might [TS]

01:59:56   want to release before the end of the [TS]

01:59:59   year such [TS]

01:59:59   year such [TS]

02:00:00   optimist i would i would love for that [TS]

02:00:01   to be true and like i said i really do [TS]

02:00:03   think that that little touch screen [TS]

02:00:04   above the keyboard something Apple [TS]

02:00:05   should present to the public itself and [TS]

02:00:07   not just do press briefings but then the [TS]

02:00:11   fancy event that market that Casey's [TS]

02:00:13   outline or it's like they'll be a whole [TS]

02:00:14   second of veteran help the update the [TS]

02:00:16   mac mini in the Pro please I can't I [TS]

02:00:19   can't bring myself to believe that [TS]

02:00:20   anymore [TS]

02:00:21   I mean I i still believe that all those [TS]

02:00:22   lines will be updated at some point in [TS]

02:00:24   the future and I really do believe the [TS]

02:00:26   new laptops will be announced this year [TS]

02:00:28   but the idea of like hey like we're [TS]

02:00:31   revamping the whole Mac line and even [TS]

02:00:33   that obscure computer that we never [TS]

02:00:34   update gets an update and even the mac [TS]

02:00:36   pro like that's just too much i can't i [TS]

02:00:39   can't fit that in my brain [TS]

02:00:40   yo to be clear the the mac mini mac pro [TS]

02:00:43   that those army reaching I'm not too [TS]

02:00:45   confident about that but i think the [TS]

02:00:47   laptop refresh is big enough to them [TS]

02:00:50   that it'll get its own event and I think [TS]

02:00:52   they feel like they have too much to [TS]

02:00:53   talk about between iOS 10 iphone 7 or [TS]

02:00:56   whatever it's called backpedaling except [TS]

02:00:59   we're not really back and justifying the [TS]

02:01:01   headphone jack and watch us three and [TS]

02:01:05   probably watch two I think that's more [TS]

02:01:07   than enough for two hour event next week [TS]

02:01:09   and thus i think that I hope in think [TS]

02:01:14   that there will be enough laptop news to [TS]

02:01:16   justify a brief event subsequent to next [TS]

02:01:20   week and my hope in my reach is that [TS]

02:01:24   maybe it will be more than just laptops [TS]

02:01:26   hmm i hope some part of that is right [TS]

02:01:29   yeah i'm gonna feel like a fool when I'm [TS]

02:01:31   completely wrong but you know what [TS]

02:01:32   there's no fun and getting the obvious [TS]

02:01:34   that the worst thing about the max that [TS]

02:01:35   ever got my brain is already moved on to [TS]

02:01:37   think about what they can be like ones [TS]

02:01:39   will be like like this you know the [TS]

02:01:41   other ones are near as just like already [TS]

02:01:43   moved on because the United one of the [TS]

02:01:45   chatroom a lot of the stuff they have is [TS]

02:01:47   like two old fixed function units for [TS]

02:01:50   decoding new codex for the what-is-it [TS]

02:01:52   hevc the to say is that you're 65 1 [TS]

02:01:56   yes like better hardware support for the [TS]

02:01:59   higher the higher performance profiles [TS]

02:02:00   of that and like a bunch of drm crap [TS]

02:02:03   of course so that you can basically like [TS]

02:02:05   all the streaming services they want to [TS]

02:02:07   send 4k they demand new drm crap [TS]

02:02:11   absolutely you can you know the so that [TS]

02:02:13   your pc or mac is allowed to show [TS]

02:02:15   netflix 4k content to do the be happy [TS]

02:02:18   handshake and you know support hdmi 2.0 [TS]

02:02:20   or hdcp 2.2 and I like I hate all that [TS]

02:02:23   stuff that'll fix piracy and I yes I [TS]

02:02:26   thought so dumb i always think like what [TS]

02:02:29   where is the blu-ray limit like example [TS]

02:02:31   didn't even include blu-ray because it [TS]

02:02:32   was too much of a pain in the ass at a [TS]

02:02:34   certain point all the drm stuff is going [TS]

02:02:36   to like you know what you can watch [TS]

02:02:37   necklace on your computer anymore it's [TS]

02:02:38   too much up and netflix is a bag of [TS]

02:02:40   heart watching your damn TV let they let [TS]

02:02:42   the TV manufacturers deal with all this [TS]

02:02:44   stuff but so far apple still seems on [TS]

02:02:47   board with it certainly until is and [TS]

02:02:48   please give me like 10 super low power [TS]

02:02:50   ones they're not the ones that are going [TS]

02:02:52   to desktop i don't think any of the ones [TS]

02:02:54   with the good gpus that Apple wants [TS]

02:02:56   their approach things are out so it's [TS]

02:02:58   not as if we're expecting these this [TS]

02:02:59   year but you know after seven past shows [TS]

02:03:02   what you can do able to show that you're [TS]

02:03:04   dedicated to the max line is when these [TS]

02:03:07   can be like things ship in volume [TS]

02:03:08   upgrade your computers to use them next [TS]

02:03:11   year [TS]
