00:00:29   it belongs [TS]

00:00:31   but before we bury the body we're going [TS]

00:00:33   to do something we do here on the [TS]

00:00:35   incomparable which is look back at our [TS]

00:00:50   panelists in 2016 and i'm going to [TS]

00:00:53   introduce them to you now in the order [TS]

00:00:56   in which they they rank on our top [TS]

00:01:12   david jail or hello hello [TS]

00:01:15   I don't want to spoil anything but but [TS]

00:01:17   some of my favorite things [TS]

00:01:18   raindrops on roses and whiskers on [TS]

00:01:21   kittens [TS]

00:01:22   ah Jin mhm just saying I kinda like the [TS]

00:01:26   tails out kittens but ok oh they're [TS]

00:01:29   they're cute they're like they're like 6 [TS]

00:01:30   630 ok good [TS]

00:01:31   yeah yeah they're in there they're next [TS]

00:01:33   whiskers as their favorite thing about [TS]

00:01:35   kittens oscar hammerstein yeah i'm also [TS]

00:01:37   means man no Bertie and with 22 [TS]

00:01:42   appearances Erica and sign [TS]

00:01:44   hello hello you need to bump davidoff of [TS]

00:01:47   some episodes is all that song was [TS]

00:01:49   saying it's good to have a goal for 2017 [TS]

00:01:52   so you take him down a peg 26 is too [TS]

00:01:54   many anyway it's fine and number three [TS]

00:01:57   with 18 appearances Monty Ashley hello [TS]

00:02:00   hello [TS]

00:02:01   and number four is that if I've already [TS]

00:02:05   talked to budget corrupting other [TS]

00:02:06   people's introduction I thought we would [TS]

00:02:08   do in my own stick during my day hasn't [TS]

00:02:11   I submit to do and number four with 16 [TS]

00:02:14   appearances Steve lot number for man [TS]

00:02:16   that's embarrassing [TS]

00:02:18   i sat down to prepare for this episode a [TS]

00:02:20   couple of weeks back the way i usually [TS]

00:02:22   do which is I download all of our [TS]

00:02:24   episodes and I kind of start going [TS]

00:02:26   through them in the car at at high [TS]

00:02:29   speeds is the current high speed or the [TS]

00:02:31   or the party was just going to 18 the [TS]

00:02:33   Congo 15 in the car but the podcast is [TS]

00:02:35   it three times okay okay gonna say [TS]

00:02:37   counters that cancel each other out and [TS]

00:02:39   find the part that's better if I'm in [TS]

00:02:40   terror for my life [TS]

00:02:41   yes I looked at that total and I said [TS]

00:02:43   this is gonna be over in no time and [TS]

00:02:45   then I noticed that there were low [TS]

00:02:47   definitions and other games shows and [TS]

00:02:50   timely kills and I said oh crap [TS]

00:02:54   so if you count other episodes my total [TS]

00:02:57   is not quite so embarrassing i prepared [TS]

00:02:59   for this the same way I always do which [TS]

00:03:01   is starting out the year by taking notes [TS]

00:03:03   as I'm listening to the podcast and then [TS]

00:03:05   very swiftly forward to getting to do [TS]

00:03:07   that [TS]

00:03:07   uh let's see I got through who episode [TS]

00:03:11   292 which I don't have a pretty good at [TS]

00:03:15   was that's 11 episodes in yeah that's [TS]

00:03:17   better than I did [TS]

00:03:18   alright well that's good I guess what [TS]

00:03:19   you weeks in makeup make a new year's [TS]

00:03:21   resolution to dethrone him try to make [TS]

00:03:23   it 2-2 March that's worked out so well [TS]

00:03:25   the last three years I would like to [TS]

00:03:27   thank some of our panelists who didn't [TS]

00:03:28   make it tonight who are also in our in [TS]

00:03:30   our hearts our top list no don't think [TS]

00:03:51   Lisa Schmeisser no no thanks Glenn [TS]

00:03:53   fleischmann definitely not a little bit [TS]

00:04:07   of our many panelist this year [TS]

00:04:09   no thanks or the listeners and that's it [TS]

00:04:12   so here's what we're going to do as we [TS]

00:04:14   always do in these new years episode [TS]

00:04:15   we're going to talk first about some [TS]

00:04:17   stuff that we liked this year just to to [TS]

00:04:20   have some kind of positivity of like [TS]

00:04:21   stuff we liked out the world meet [TS]

00:04:23   the stuff we consume that we liked just [TS]

00:04:25   to make a little list and maybe it'll be [TS]

00:04:27   stuff you haven't heard of or you can [TS]

00:04:30   you can check it out and then we'll [TS]

00:04:31   we'll talk about ourselves after that so [TS]

00:04:34   we're going to start by by praising [TS]

00:04:35   others before we turn around and strain [TS]

00:04:37   our shoulder a little bit and pat [TS]

00:04:39   ourselves on the back with favorites and [TS]

00:04:41   I do have some some know that eclipse [TS]

00:04:43   there there will be clips who I love [TS]

00:04:46   Clips I have some notes from listeners [TS]

00:04:48   as well and a couple of listeners sent [TS]

00:04:51   in their clips and those are my favorite [TS]

00:04:55   people in the world and and we'll hear [TS]

00:04:57   from them in a little bit and after us [TS]

00:05:00   right Jason [TS]

00:05:01   ye-yes after you sure but not the others [TS]

00:05:05   not the of them so let's talk about [TS]

00:05:08   favorite things in the world first David [TS]

00:05:11   lure you have some favorite stuff of [TS]

00:05:13   movies TV books whatever that you'd like [TS]

00:05:15   to talk about [TS]

00:05:16   I do have some favorite whatever i have [TS]

00:05:19   been enjoying the third collection of [TS]

00:05:24   bandit comics from dark horse comics by [TS]

00:05:27   Paul Tobin and kala Coover bandit is a [TS]

00:05:31   sheet and I don't know that she's a [TS]

00:05:33   super her but she's a masked cat burglar [TS]

00:05:36   in Paris and her adventures are [TS]

00:05:38   delightful and if if you listen to radio [TS]

00:05:42   theatre you will pick this up and go oh [TS]

00:05:44   dear god no wonder he loves it so the [TS]

00:05:47   third book just came out in October the [TS]

00:05:49   first two are sitting happily on my [TS]

00:05:51   shelf of things i love also the black [TS]

00:05:56   beetle by francisco franco mila also a [TS]

00:06:00   masked superhero of sorts a very good [TS]

00:06:03   story it's it's it's been out before but [TS]

00:06:06   i just i finally got it this year and [TS]

00:06:09   I've been doing a lot of nonfiction [TS]

00:06:12   reading because i'm busy writing fiction [TS]

00:06:14   so i've been reading spqr by Mary beard [TS]

00:06:20   which is a really engaging history of [TS]

00:06:23   the Roman Empire you you wouldn't think [TS]

00:06:25   gee I really need to sit down and read a [TS]

00:06:28   book about the roman empire but you'd be [TS]

00:06:29   wrong because this is a really good one [TS]

00:06:31   and wonderland by steven johnson [TS]

00:06:35   who he did a PBS show last year called [TS]

00:06:38   how we got to now and wonderland is [TS]

00:06:41   follow-up to this it's it's sort of an [TS]

00:06:44   interesting look at how the technologies [TS]

00:06:49   and everything everything that has [TS]

00:06:51   basically benefited humanity started out [TS]

00:06:56   as innovations for playthings and [TS]

00:06:58   diversions and entertainment and then [TS]

00:07:01   someone said hey you know we could [TS]

00:07:02   actually use that to do something useful [TS]

00:07:04   so it's kind of an interesting in [TS]

00:07:07   version of things because you know you [TS]

00:07:10   think Oh the car was invented and did [TS]

00:07:12   this and you don't look at what led to [TS]

00:07:14   the car and and his thesis is that [TS]

00:07:17   playthings really influenced a lot of [TS]

00:07:20   this stuff which is kind of wild on the [TS]

00:07:24   fiction side my favorite novel of the [TS]

00:07:27   year so far is Moonglow by michael [TS]

00:07:29   chabon which is sort of a fictional [TS]

00:07:33   memoir because it's about a writer named [TS]

00:07:35   michael chabon and talking about his [TS]

00:07:38   grandfather and a somewhat true details [TS]

00:07:43   and somewhat very not true details and [TS]

00:07:46   it's an interesting blend and it's not [TS]

00:07:48   you're not sitting there trying to piece [TS]

00:07:50   together or what's real and what's not [TS]

00:07:51   you know what really happened to him but [TS]

00:07:54   it's it's really engaging if you if you [TS]

00:07:56   liked Kavalier and clay and Wonder Boys [TS]

00:07:58   and the yiddish policemen's union and I [TS]

00:08:02   think you'll get a kick out of this it's [TS]

00:08:03   it's a lot of fun and there are pockets [TS]

00:08:05   yeah okay so you know your rockets in [TS]

00:08:09   terms of things I just enjoyed doing [TS]

00:08:11   this year I got to go to the concert [TS]

00:08:14   against humanity up in indianapolis from [TS]

00:08:16   our friends at cards against humanity [TS]

00:08:18   which was way longer than anyone [TS]

00:08:21   expected and it was quite delightful and [TS]

00:08:24   I went to the Austin television festival [TS]

00:08:25   where I got to meet heavier griot Mars [TS]

00:08:29   wash of lost in the middle man and got [TS]

00:08:33   to hang out with tom fontana from [TS]

00:08:35   homicide and sink elsewhere who i met [TS]

00:08:38   long ago and got to meet voices tree on [TS]

00:08:41   in person and Tim Goodman in person [TS]

00:08:43   which was great fun and and [TS]

00:08:46   probably i mean the whole thing was [TS]

00:08:48   wonderful but one of the most special [TS]

00:08:51   moments was just actually getting to [TS]

00:08:53   meet Norman Lear and say thank you for [TS]

00:08:57   influencing a huge amount of my [TS]

00:08:59   childhood and he was very gracious and [TS]

00:09:01   he outlasted this all that was like 1am [TS]

00:09:03   in the morning and we all went home and [TS]

00:09:05   he was still partying at the bar so go [TS]

00:09:09   Norman attaboy Norman knows there's my [TS]

00:09:11   year of none things things that I didn't [TS]

00:09:13   read or watch for the show [TS]

00:09:15   yeah that's just like all the other [TS]

00:09:16   stuff that works alright [TS]

00:09:18   Erica what a what things did you like [TS]

00:09:20   this year I quite enjoyed the Doctor Who [TS]

00:09:23   spin-off class which isn't actually [TS]

00:09:25   available on a BBC america yet so sorry [TS]

00:09:28   us listeners but you've got to look [TS]

00:09:30   forward to next spring sometime i like [TS]

00:09:34   that i finished the three watch that [TS]

00:09:37   Stephen and I were doing for gilmore [TS]

00:09:39   girls because we wanted to be ready for [TS]

00:09:41   the new movies which sadly we've only [TS]

00:09:43   watched one of the four new movies yet [TS]

00:09:45   but it was still fun to get all the way [TS]

00:09:47   through and determined that season 7 was [TS]

00:09:49   not as bad as I remember it being [TS]

00:09:50   watching in real-time i highly recommend [TS]

00:09:53   marathoning it works better that way [TS]

00:09:56   I've still been very slowly catching up [TS]

00:09:58   on flash and arrow [TS]

00:10:00   I'm still only the first season of the [TS]

00:10:01   flash so gives you an idea of just how [TS]

00:10:03   far I've gotten but i'm still chugging [TS]

00:10:05   along very slowly and just at the end of [TS]

00:10:08   2016 i discovered a show called the [TS]

00:10:10   younger which I completely fell in love [TS]

00:10:12   with one day before they took it away [TS]

00:10:14   and made it not playable anymore online [TS]

00:10:17   but I've managed to see like I don't [TS]

00:10:20   know quite a few episodes in that one [TS]

00:10:22   day that I had and I'm probably just [TS]

00:10:24   gonna buy it on Amazon because i really [TS]

00:10:26   wanna watch it so check that out if you [TS]

00:10:29   are if you like a it is a half-hour [TS]

00:10:31   comedy about a woman played by Sutton [TS]

00:10:34   Foster whom I love who pretends to be 26 [TS]

00:10:38   to get a job in advertising because she [TS]

00:10:40   had taken time off to have a child and [TS]

00:10:43   raise a child and she's actually 40 and [TS]

00:10:45   it sounds like kind of a ridiculous and [TS]

00:10:48   stupid Jackie premise but they treat it [TS]

00:10:51   very well it's it's very well done so [TS]

00:10:53   it's awesome [TS]

00:10:55   it was the year of no Doctor Who if your [TS]

00:10:58   doctor who fan a because there was no [TS]

00:11:00   doctor who this year I it was fun to see [TS]

00:11:04   what we can come up with to talk about [TS]

00:11:05   on Verity we did very much sort of [TS]

00:11:07   stretched are stretched our seem to its [TS]

00:11:10   limits and then it also i think aloud [TS]

00:11:13   more time for lazy doctor who for [TS]

00:11:15   Stephen and I to do our other [TS]

00:11:17   incomparable network podcast and we we [TS]

00:11:20   tracked through quite a bit and I'm [TS]

00:11:22   pretty proud of the pace we're going at [TS]

00:11:24   this point it abs and flows but you know [TS]

00:11:27   eventually we'll we'll get through it a [TS]

00:11:31   really cool thing to be able to do is go [TS]

00:11:33   to the now hear this festival and see [TS]

00:11:35   what you guys in person with something [TS]

00:11:37   that I think does not happen often [TS]

00:11:39   enough so that was that was wonderful [TS]

00:11:42   plus getting to see other podcast live [TS]

00:11:44   and in two hours live that was that was [TS]

00:11:46   very cool another in person thing was [TS]

00:11:48   actually getting to meet colleen sims in [TS]

00:11:50   person i took a family vacation to [TS]

00:11:52   sonoma Arizona earlier this year and was [TS]

00:11:56   able to arrange a meet up with her and [TS]

00:11:58   Justin so Stephen and I got to meet in [TS]

00:12:00   person and it was it was just great [TS]

00:12:03   I didn't do a whole lot of reading [TS]

00:12:07   actually i think most of the reading [TS]

00:12:08   that I did was for episode 301 of the [TS]

00:12:11   incomparable all the best words [TS]

00:12:13   yep but it worked out great because so [TS]

00:12:16   many of those books were once that I [TS]

00:12:17   either liked a lot or positively adored [TS]

00:12:20   so even though I didn't get to read a [TS]

00:12:22   lot of other things my podcast reading [TS]

00:12:24   was at least for that episode top top [TS]

00:12:27   notch and then of course the other [TS]

00:12:29   reading that I do consistently is for [TS]

00:12:31   uncanny magazine which I think has had [TS]

00:12:33   just a kind of a banner year as far as [TS]

00:12:36   his stories that i have been passionate [TS]

00:12:38   about and I still gotten to read the [TS]

00:12:40   store some of the stories for the [TS]

00:12:41   uncanny magazine podcast which is always [TS]

00:12:44   wonderful and that led to probably the [TS]

00:12:47   coolest thing that happened to me this [TS]

00:12:49   year which was winning a hugo award [TS]

00:12:51   everyone in that doesn't quite seem real [TS]

00:12:57   yeah that was that was a very strange [TS]

00:12:59   thing and then also you know some [TS]

00:13:02   particle words also for uncanny and [TS]

00:13:04   charity and the uncomfortable so [TS]

00:13:06   yea even among share URL i'll send it to [TS]

00:13:09   you [TS]

00:13:09   ok that's ok we still need to find room [TS]

00:13:12   for it get 660 that's Rob hang at the [TS]

00:13:18   very last thing on my list is more of a [TS]

00:13:19   sort of a real-world thing and that is I [TS]

00:13:22   got a job this this last year in 2016 [TS]

00:13:24   and it is kind of my dream job [TS]

00:13:27   I'm a writer for the government in a [TS]

00:13:29   unit that I'm actually passionate about [TS]

00:13:31   what I'm writing about so it's it's been [TS]

00:13:33   fantastic and I actually work with [TS]

00:13:35   really good dedicated civil service [TS]

00:13:38   which is just a it's a wonderful [TS]

00:13:40   experience in between that and you know [TS]

00:13:43   starting a small business with Stephen [TS]

00:13:45   to produce podcasts on the side has been [TS]

00:13:47   kind of a the beginning of the year was [TS]

00:13:49   kind of rocky financially but at the end [TS]

00:13:51   of the year everything seems to have [TS]

00:13:52   smooth out so well 2016 was was crap on [TS]

00:13:55   a lot of fronts it finished strong and [TS]

00:13:58   in a couple of ways for me so I'm [TS]

00:14:00   alright nice [TS]

00:14:02   I i should say going lego shopping in [TS]

00:14:04   anaheim with you and Stephen was also [TS]

00:14:06   one of my favorite things this is david [TS]

00:14:08   i was gonna say I noticed you mentioned [TS]

00:14:09   the ATX festival and the concert against [TS]

00:14:11   humanity but didn't mention it's all [TS]

00:14:12   getting together an area that was saving [TS]

00:14:14   that for my favorite episode [TS]

00:14:16   ok alright yeah [TS]

00:14:18   now see because it doesn't mind my [TS]

00:14:21   outside the podcast I'm why don't why [TS]

00:14:23   don't you love us now it's a holiday [TS]

00:14:26   special yeah only 26 episodes this year [TS]

00:14:28   he must be disgusted yeah i mean i can't [TS]

00:14:31   i can't take it I can't take all right [TS]

00:14:33   let's move on to monty monty my favorite [TS]

00:14:35   comic book that i discovered this year [TS]

00:14:37   is called the unbelievable go in pool [TS]

00:14:38   which is extremely silly [TS]

00:14:41   let me explain the premise really quick [TS]

00:14:43   if people haven't heard of this [TS]

00:14:44   character she's actually a brand new [TS]

00:14:46   Marvel character invented in 2016 and [TS]

00:14:49   has her own comic book she started as a [TS]

00:14:52   joke there was the amazing spider Gwen [TS]

00:14:55   which was a version of when Stacy that [TS]

00:14:57   had been bitten by a radioactive spider [TS]

00:14:59   and then one month they had a whole [TS]

00:15:01   bunch of other hypothetical Gwen's like [TS]

00:15:04   the Gwen ventures and there was a joke [TS]

00:15:07   on a Dead Pool cover about Gwen pool [TS]

00:15:09   everybody liked the costume so they [TS]

00:15:14   reconfigure the costume into this [TS]

00:15:15   character who is not Gwen Stacy her name [TS]

00:15:18   is Gwen pool pol ii and she appears to [TS]

00:15:23   have been put into the marvel universe [TS]

00:15:25   from our universe [TS]

00:15:28   whoa she has no powers at all except [TS]

00:15:31   that she's read a bunch of marvel comics [TS]

00:15:33   so she knows everybody's secret [TS]

00:15:35   identities and she knows all the troops [TS]

00:15:39   so the first thing she does is get [TS]

00:15:41   herself a costume because if you have a [TS]

00:15:44   costume you're a main character and are [TS]

00:15:46   less likely to get randomly killed in [TS]

00:15:48   the background [TS]

00:15:50   I love this idea and I'm ordering this [TS]

00:15:52   right now is amazing [TS]

00:15:54   there is a collection called a the [TS]

00:15:56   unbelievable when pool believe it [TS]

00:15:58   the first thing she does is start [TS]

00:16:01   blowing stuff up because whatever it's a [TS]

00:16:03   comic book you people die all the time [TS]

00:16:05   it doesn't matter but she kind of [TS]

00:16:08   discovered that's not true and it she is [TS]

00:16:12   forced to take the universities in more [TS]

00:16:13   seriously but not entirely seriously [TS]

00:16:16   because she knows that for instance [TS]

00:16:18   howard the duck is around and how dumb [TS]

00:16:21   that that's a good for instance it's [TS]

00:16:26   super meta she gets to make jokes to mow [TS]

00:16:29   docs face and hang out with Batroc the [TS]

00:16:32   leaper and i'm really enjoying it [TS]

00:16:35   the other books that i read that i [TS]

00:16:37   really enjoyed this year one was the [TS]

00:16:38   union of the state which is an oral [TS]

00:16:41   history of the comic are the sketch [TS]

00:16:44   comedy group the state who you might [TS]

00:16:46   remember from having a show on MTV in [TS]

00:16:49   the nineteen nineties oh yeah there were [TS]

00:16:52   11 guys and well there are ten guys and [TS]

00:16:54   one woman in the state and they kind of [TS]

00:16:56   taken over the comedic landscape that [TS]

00:16:59   Tom Lennon and ben garant are all over [TS]

00:17:02   the place [TS]

00:17:03   david Wayne is all over the place can [TS]

00:17:05   Marino's all over the place and this is [TS]

00:17:07   a really good oral history in which all [TS]

00:17:09   11 people share their memories the [TS]

00:17:12   network people they were arguing with [TS]

00:17:14   share their memories [TS]

00:17:16   it's a super thick book and I went [TS]

00:17:18   through it in a day and if you like the [TS]

00:17:21   kind of comedy that has the earmarks of [TS]

00:17:24   the state this book about how 11 guys [TS]

00:17:27   from nyu somehow got a TV show on MTV [TS]

00:17:31   and then lost it and kind of ruin their [TS]

00:17:36   careers until later when they came back [TS]

00:17:38   is super fun third book i'm going to [TS]

00:17:41   mention keeping the nerd theme is the [TS]

00:17:42   Caped Crusader by glenn weldon closes of [TS]

00:17:45   course one of the panelists on the [TS]

00:17:47   podcast pop-culture happy hour from NPR [TS]

00:17:50   he knows everything about Batman and in [TS]

00:17:53   this book he shares it with us [TS]

00:17:56   that's all I'm gonna say about it either [TS]

00:17:58   you want to read a cultural history [TS]

00:18:00   about Batman or you don't [TS]

00:18:01   I recommend that you do it is great i [TS]

00:18:04   did it is the TV shows i really enjoyed [TS]

00:18:08   bajillion dollar properties which is [TS]

00:18:10   barely a TV show because it is on seeso [TS]

00:18:13   a streaming app allowed i enjoyed it [TS]

00:18:15   anyway it is executive-produced by cool [TS]

00:18:18   appeal i sock who is on the airwolf [TS]

00:18:20   podcast who charted the wife of Scott [TS]

00:18:23   Aukerman of comedy bang bang [TS]

00:18:25   it's produced by comedy bang bang [TS]

00:18:27   productions and also common and Robert [TS]

00:18:31   grant we just mentioned has been having [TS]

00:18:32   been part of the state [TS]

00:18:33   they also produce at midnight in a bunch [TS]

00:18:36   of other stuff [TS]

00:18:37   it's a mostly improvised show that's [TS]

00:18:40   making fun of real estate shows and it's [TS]

00:18:44   super funny [TS]

00:18:45   there have been two seasons already in [TS]

00:18:48   2016 each season is six episodes long it [TS]

00:18:51   looks like they may have been shot in [TS]

00:18:53   six days to but if you pay attention [TS]

00:18:56   when they go to these lavish mansions [TS]

00:18:59   that they have to sell three of per [TS]

00:19:01   episode they you reuse certain mentions [TS]

00:19:05   a lot and I think it's great to see [TS]

00:19:06   oh now we're shooting from this angle [TS]

00:19:08   and putting this captain on so it says [TS]

00:19:11   no steam shower 19 Grotto's and stuff [TS]

00:19:15   like that the other TV show i want to [TS]

00:19:17   mention is also barely a TV show called [TS]

00:19:20   window warriors and is on the game show [TS]

00:19:22   network [TS]

00:19:23   it was terrible but i really enjoyed it [TS]

00:19:25   too competitive reality show about [TS]

00:19:29   people who make shop display windows [TS]

00:19:32   like for macy's like I just have to say [TS]

00:19:34   that that sentence was maybe the most [TS]

00:19:35   Monteith I stand by it somehow this [TS]

00:19:40   terrible show had a [TS]

00:19:41   hundred-thousand-dollar prize because [TS]

00:19:43   some genius realized they can get the [TS]

00:19:45   entire show under written by having it [TS]

00:19:48   entirely be advertisements so there are [TS]

00:19:51   two of like the eight episodes sponsored [TS]

00:19:54   by macy's and they're designing macy's [TS]

00:19:57   think we're watching people figure out [TS]

00:19:59   how to advertise macy's to you [TS]

00:20:01   and then there's a hot topic episode it [TS]

00:20:04   I enjoyed that show partly for its [TS]

00:20:07   audacity and pretending to be a [TS]

00:20:09   television show but also its was [TS]

00:20:11   interesting seeing people seeing the [TS]

00:20:13   conflict some of the contestants had [TS]

00:20:15   between making a window display that [TS]

00:20:20   will please the eye and making a display [TS]

00:20:24   that will sell the product there was one [TS]

00:20:26   guy on the show i'm pretty sure was just [TS]

00:20:27   a visual artist it doesn't actually work [TS]

00:20:29   in advertising and I was gonna say my [TS]

00:20:31   favorite movie of the year was probably [TS]

00:20:33   Zootopia which is weird because the [TS]

00:20:35   first time i watched utopia I got super [TS]

00:20:37   bored didn't finish it the first time I [TS]

00:20:39   watch it I was viewing it as a buddy cop [TS]

00:20:41   movie and it seemed really by the [TS]

00:20:43   numbers and boring the second time i [TS]

00:20:45   watched it I realized it was a film noir [TS]

00:20:47   and a love story and I really really [TS]

00:20:50   liked at that time I think that's it [TS]

00:20:53   alright and i hated everything else ok [TS]

00:20:56   good okay except things that will bring [TS]

00:20:57   up in the talking about our podcast [TS]

00:20:59   section all right especially John [TS]

00:21:01   siracusa dan morally in Sims Tony [TS]

00:21:03   similar Scott McNulty etc all those guys [TS]

00:21:06   they're not here to defend themselves [TS]

00:21:08   Steve what are your favorite things [TS]

00:21:10   nothing ok moving on let's move on now I [TS]

00:21:14   actually did write some things down [TS]

00:21:16   I so although it's not as extensive list [TS]

00:21:19   this year for some reason I'm not sure [TS]

00:21:21   why but I did like some things this year [TS]

00:21:23   top thing on my list is the now hear [TS]

00:21:26   this podcast festival well I look [TS]

00:21:28   forward to for weeks and weeks and it [TS]

00:21:30   did not disappoint the festival was the [TS]

00:21:32   festival but given the opportunity to [TS]

00:21:35   hang out with all of you find people and [TS]

00:21:38   to finally meet colleen and Brian and to [TS]

00:21:41   meet again Dan and Erica and Steven and [TS]

00:21:44   the 50 other people that showed up from [TS]

00:21:47   the example was that was great fun and I [TS]

00:21:50   really enjoyed myself and the [TS]

00:21:53   opportunity to meet the magic tavern [TS]

00:21:55   people and a couple of the other folks [TS]

00:21:57   Aaron Mackie from lure was really [TS]

00:22:00   enjoyable and gave me a new appreciation [TS]

00:22:02   for the podcast community which I didn't [TS]

00:22:05   realize I was part of internal yeah i'm [TS]

00:22:08   going to hear this and now it turns out [TS]

00:22:09   i am so there you go [TS]

00:22:11   things that were not podcast festivals [TS]

00:22:14   many books this year I don't think [TS]

00:22:16   unless it was going through my old [TS]

00:22:18   Calvin and Hobbes collections just to [TS]

00:22:20   soothe myself but movies wise best movie [TS]

00:22:25   I saw this year was actually a movie [TS]

00:22:27   from 2014 which buy new things standards [TS]

00:22:30   is actually basically brand-new I best [TS]

00:22:33   movie I saw here was the babadook which [TS]

00:22:35   is a Australian I almost hesitate to [TS]

00:22:38   call it a horror movie because it's [TS]

00:22:39   really more of a psychological thriller [TS]

00:22:41   although it is kind of a monster movie [TS]

00:22:42   in a way but it is a wonderful film that [TS]

00:22:46   i recommend to even non-horror people [TS]

00:22:49   basically it's about a single mom who's [TS]

00:22:53   husband actually died on the way to [TS]

00:22:56   deliver their young son who is now I [TS]

00:22:59   think seven or eight years old and he is [TS]

00:23:02   kind of a handful he's probably [TS]

00:23:04   somewhere on the spectrum and he keeps [TS]

00:23:06   her awake night after night and he gets [TS]

00:23:10   in a lot of trouble at school and she's [TS]

00:23:11   basically kind of at her wits end and [TS]

00:23:14   about to lose it anyway and then they [TS]

00:23:16   run across a book one night I that just [TS]

00:23:20   appeared from nowhere called the [TS]

00:23:21   babadook which introduces this monster [TS]

00:23:25   called the babadook who when you let him [TS]

00:23:28   into your life he you'll wish you were [TS]

00:23:30   dead and you can never get rid of him [TS]

00:23:32   and her son freaks out and obsesses over [TS]

00:23:35   it and soon enough sure enough the [TS]

00:23:37   babadook turns up at the house it's I [TS]

00:23:40   don't want to go into too much detail on [TS]

00:23:42   it because it's a really complex and [TS]

00:23:45   very a kind of subtle plot that's not [TS]

00:23:48   entirely about the monster although yet [TS]

00:23:51   you can kind of today determine for [TS]

00:23:54   yourself how much the babadook is a real [TS]

00:23:56   monster and how much it's something that [TS]

00:23:58   is is more of a metaphor but it's really [TS]

00:24:03   really good [TS]

00:24:04   I consider probably one of the best [TS]

00:24:06   horror movies I've seen in the last 10 [TS]

00:24:08   years and maybe one of the best movies [TS]

00:24:10   i've seen in that long just a solid film [TS]

00:24:14   beautifully acted wonderfully directed [TS]

00:24:16   very inventively filmed and I recommend [TS]

00:24:20   it it's good stuff here like the sixth [TS]

00:24:22   person to tell me how good that will be [TS]

00:24:24   as I really need to see it I kind of [TS]

00:24:26   just sort of [TS]

00:24:27   randomly picked up after hearing a [TS]

00:24:28   couple of people recommended i don't [TS]

00:24:31   know it wasn't overly hyped to me so [TS]

00:24:33   hopefully that won't impact you do much [TS]

00:24:35   but I just sort of randomly turned it on [TS]

00:24:38   because it i noticed it on netflix and [TS]

00:24:39   it's still there by the way if you want [TS]

00:24:40   to stream it and I was shocked at how [TS]

00:24:43   good it was the people that had told me [TS]

00:24:46   about it really undersold it so it's [TS]

00:24:49   there's there's very little gore in it [TS]

00:24:51   so if that's not your thing you know [TS]

00:24:54   there you go [TS]

00:24:54   although i know there are people out [TS]

00:24:57   there for whom seeing animals put in [TS]

00:25:00   peril is worse than seeing people [TS]

00:25:01   eviscerated and if you're one of those [TS]

00:25:03   there's a scene in this that will be [TS]

00:25:05   very difficult for you so you should be [TS]

00:25:07   prepared for that but it's not graphic [TS]

00:25:10   so at least there's that [TS]

00:25:12   anyway wonderful movie i will say that [TS]

00:25:14   the babadook looks incredibly cool like [TS]

00:25:17   the creature itself [TS]

00:25:19   man i love that creature design it is a [TS]

00:25:21   good design i also really enjoyed [TS]

00:25:24   Zootopia like Monty I think that said I [TS]

00:25:27   always root for disney animation because [TS]

00:25:29   they've been having their lunch eaten by [TS]

00:25:30   pixar for the last 10 years or so and [TS]

00:25:33   every time a Disney film comes out I'm [TS]

00:25:35   always like come on maybe this will be [TS]

00:25:36   the one that's as good as Pixar and then [TS]

00:25:38   oh no not quite sorry but you get closer [TS]

00:25:41   and I think Zootopia finally did it [TS]

00:25:44   they finally made a computer animated [TS]

00:25:47   movie that I put on a level with Pixar [TS]

00:25:49   it's I i really enjoyed the story I [TS]

00:25:54   liked all the various threads that were [TS]

00:25:56   going on throughout the plot [TS]

00:25:57   I think it's a very effective commentary [TS]

00:26:00   on racism and bullying and a variety of [TS]

00:26:03   other things and it does that without [TS]

00:26:05   being remotely on the nose which i think [TS]

00:26:08   is a far more effective way to pass that [TS]

00:26:10   message on to kids and hit him over the [TS]

00:26:12   head and I really really enjoyed it I'd [TS]

00:26:15   like to go back and watch it again soon [TS]

00:26:18   it's got some transcendently stupid [TS]

00:26:20   jokes too [TS]

00:26:21   that's true too yeah it's funny as well [TS]

00:26:22   and it does both without breaking a [TS]

00:26:24   sweat [TS]

00:26:25   let's see i play some games last year i [TS]

00:26:27   think i was happy because i just [TS]

00:26:29   finished fallout one this year finished [TS]

00:26:32   fallout 2 so there's that [TS]

00:26:35   well as good as fallout 1 it was too [TS]

00:26:37   long and it was buggier and I have [TS]

00:26:38   filled real difficulty with RPGs that [TS]

00:26:41   your buggy because I never know if that [TS]

00:26:43   guy died because I screwed up or because [TS]

00:26:45   this the person who wrote the script to [TS]

00:26:47   govern that character screwed up and so [TS]

00:26:50   it was overall entertaining but it was [TS]

00:26:53   too long and now I moved on to fallout 3 [TS]

00:26:56   and I'm about 50 hours into that and [TS]

00:26:58   I've barely scratched the surface and [TS]

00:27:00   I'm loving every minute of it [TS]

00:27:01   it is a basically as expected is [TS]

00:27:06   basically elder scrolls in a [TS]

00:27:08   post-apocalyptic universe with guns and [TS]

00:27:11   mutants instead of swords and trolls and [TS]

00:27:15   it is absolutely wonderful idea i love a [TS]

00:27:18   game where I can just kind of randomly [TS]

00:27:20   explore things and I feel like it i can [TS]

00:27:22   drop into the subway tunnel that's [TS]

00:27:24   totally not part of the main plot but [TS]

00:27:27   there's a whole like a you know a group [TS]

00:27:29   of people who think they're vampires [TS]

00:27:31   living down there that you just sort of [TS]

00:27:32   run across and you spend several hours [TS]

00:27:35   just kind of talking to all of them and [TS]

00:27:37   doing side quests for them and then you [TS]

00:27:39   move on to something else and I don't [TS]

00:27:40   find that very very compelling although [TS]

00:27:43   it is in a min credible bear to get [TS]

00:27:45   running on Windows 10 but i won't go [TS]

00:27:48   into detail on that but that really [TS]

00:27:51   needs to get their stuff together and [TS]

00:27:52   come up with a patch to make it easier [TS]

00:27:53   because it was a huge pain and actually [TS]

00:27:57   i think i spent more time games wise on [TS]

00:28:01   launch box this year than anything else [TS]

00:28:03   which is basically a front-end for for [TS]

00:28:08   all the emulators that you have laying [TS]

00:28:10   around [TS]

00:28:10   I've been into emulators for a long time [TS]

00:28:12   playing on my old Atari and sega games [TS]

00:28:15   and whatnot but something about I [TS]

00:28:19   importing them all into into this [TS]

00:28:22   front-end and downloading all of the box [TS]

00:28:25   art and having all the boxes lined up [TS]

00:28:27   the old seventies boxart that were you'd [TS]

00:28:31   like the Atari box art from the [TS]

00:28:32   seventies where I clearly somebody who [TS]

00:28:34   smoked a whole lot of pot before they [TS]

00:28:36   decided they were going to come up with [TS]

00:28:38   the art for air-sea battle or basic math [TS]

00:28:41   or whatever and something about just [TS]

00:28:44   seeing all those boxes with their [TS]

00:28:45   they're crazy seventies are all lined up [TS]

00:28:47   side-by-side if you really wake ins the [TS]

00:28:50   the kid in me who every time his mom [TS]

00:28:52   dragged him to the mall i used to go [TS]

00:28:55   running to that weird corner of sears [TS]

00:28:57   where they inexplicably stocked atari [TS]

00:28:59   games right next to the hardware just so [TS]

00:29:01   I could stare longingly at the shelves [TS]

00:29:03   and and dream of playing all those games [TS]

00:29:05   and so I really enjoyed that I played a [TS]

00:29:08   lot of old games and they kind of [TS]

00:29:10   started an unofficial quest now to play [TS]

00:29:12   every single console game made before [TS]

00:29:16   say like 1995 for the PlayStation era [TS]

00:29:19   i'm gone very far yet i'm in 1982 so [TS]

00:29:23   that's so that was it [TS]

00:29:25   alright get some stuff had some laughs [TS]

00:29:28   shed some tears came out to the coast [TS]

00:29:30   have a family laughs yeah sure but with [TS]

00:29:33   a party david all right I've gotta have [TS]

00:29:35   a few really quick [TS]

00:29:36   my favorite movie of the year I've [TS]

00:29:38   decided was arrival I really loved it i [TS]

00:29:41   thought it was I thought it was great [TS]

00:29:43   it made me I left the theater very very [TS]

00:29:45   happy emotionally touched and kind of [TS]

00:29:48   happy and sad and it did all the right [TS]

00:29:51   things I i loved it a lot [TS]

00:29:54   my top five TV shows of the year because [TS]

00:29:59   i actually made a list any weirdo me I [TS]

00:30:01   know game of thrones heard [TS]

00:30:02   oh yeah i watch that to the worst great [TS]

00:30:04   comedy I think I probably mentioned last [TS]

00:30:06   year on FX [TS]

00:30:08   yeah it's fantastic mr. robot season two [TS]

00:30:11   I liked a lot the expanse and West world [TS]

00:30:14   and so i'll mention all those also [TS]

00:30:18   really liked Atlanta which I had at [TS]

00:30:21   number 16 list with Donald Glover just [TS]

00:30:24   really great books I the ones i wanted [TS]

00:30:27   to call out i mean we we talked about [TS]

00:30:28   the fifth season because it was a nebula [TS]

00:30:30   nominee but NK jemisin and then the [TS]

00:30:34   sequel to that on the obelisk gate and [TS]

00:30:37   the their third book in the trilogy is [TS]

00:30:39   coming out in 2017 i really love those [TS]

00:30:43   books I think she's wonderful writer and [TS]

00:30:45   the world building is pretty amazing [TS]

00:30:47   and there are a few little things in it [TS]

00:30:48   that you she does a very nice trick [TS]

00:30:51   where there's things that you read his [TS]

00:30:52   world building that are just kind of [TS]

00:30:54   tossed off world-building details that [TS]

00:30:56   turn out later not to be and i really [TS]

00:30:59   love it when a writer can do that where [TS]

00:31:01   you absorb this thing that they're [TS]

00:31:02   telling you [TS]

00:31:03   but you sort of take it as color and [TS]

00:31:05   then like 300 pages later you're like oh [TS]

00:31:07   that's important right [TS]

00:31:09   I that's a great trick when you can do [TS]

00:31:11   that and she did that mean in that [TS]

00:31:13   setting up that world because you know [TS]

00:31:15   it's just totally kind of foreign world [TS]

00:31:17   and you make some assumptions and then [TS]

00:31:19   she gets to say sometimes know that was [TS]

00:31:22   the wrong assumption that you made [TS]

00:31:23   they're so pretty good stuff and I'm [TS]

00:31:25   looking for the third book and the other [TS]

00:31:26   book that I really liked was uprooted by [TS]

00:31:28   Naomi Novik I I liked it a lot it is and [TS]

00:31:31   i was reading about it today and in [TS]

00:31:33   trying to describe what it's about i [TS]

00:31:34   realized there's a way you can describe [TS]

00:31:36   it that makes it sound like the most [TS]

00:31:37   boring road with fantasy book never it's [TS]

00:31:41   like there's a girl in a village and it [TS]

00:31:42   turns out she has a special magical [TS]

00:31:44   talent and there's a wizard and the [TS]

00:31:46   wizard takes her from the village and [TS]

00:31:47   there's a there's a creature and its [TS]

00:31:49   trying to destroy the world with its [TS]

00:31:51   darkness and there's a prince and [TS]

00:31:52   there's yeah it's not like that it's a [TS]

00:31:55   bit but it's really good and I liked it [TS]

00:31:57   a lot and the villains in that our [TS]

00:31:59   bureaucracy politics and a monstrous [TS]

00:32:02   tree that is trying to eat the world you [TS]

00:32:03   know the usual as you do but i like i [TS]

00:32:07   like that book a lot comics i just wish [TS]

00:32:09   we didn't ask for city episode and I [TS]

00:32:11   really got into reading Astro City thank [TS]

00:32:13   you David for right yeah [TS]

00:32:16   that stuff is so good so I'm still I'm [TS]

00:32:18   still kind of reading through master [TS]

00:32:19   city i really like the amazing [TS]

00:32:21   spider-man this year as somebody who [TS]

00:32:23   loves spider-man has for a very long [TS]

00:32:25   time I feel like they really lost their [TS]

00:32:27   way with that character and they did [TS]

00:32:28   lots of things for several years that [TS]

00:32:30   kind of made me not want to read [TS]

00:32:32   spider-man comics and their latest [TS]

00:32:34   iteration where is Peter Parker like is [TS]

00:32:38   successful and he's got a big [TS]

00:32:40   international conglomerate and [TS]

00:32:41   scientists who work for him and [TS]

00:32:42   spider-man is known to the world as [TS]

00:32:44   Peter Parker's bodyguard and employee [TS]

00:32:48   which is a and he actually hires another [TS]

00:32:50   guy to be spider-man when he can't be so [TS]

00:32:52   that he can be seen in the same place [TS]

00:32:54   it's fun because he has gadgets and he [TS]

00:32:56   has adventures and he's in china half [TS]

00:32:58   the time and then he's back in the US [TS]

00:33:00   and it's a lot of fun and light and [TS]

00:33:03   interesting in a way that spider-man [TS]

00:33:04   really hadn't been for i'd say like five [TS]

00:33:07   years so I I've enjoyed this arc where [TS]

00:33:10   Peter Parker is a you know a millionaire [TS]

00:33:12   industrialist it's it's nice for Peter [TS]

00:33:14   Parker to win some of the time it will [TS]

00:33:16   all come crashing down of course because [TS]

00:33:18   the spider-man but for now it's good and [TS]

00:33:21   on Marvel unlimited i have been catching [TS]

00:33:23   up on squirrel girl which is delightful [TS]

00:33:25   and funny [TS]

00:33:26   yeah and wacky and if people haven't [TS]

00:33:29   been reading squirrel girl they [TS]

00:33:31   shouldn't check it out we did that whole [TS]

00:33:32   marvel unlimited draft and scroll down a [TS]

00:33:34   lot of praise there but i want to [TS]

00:33:35   mention it again so good [TS]

00:33:37   alright so let's shift gears and talk [TS]

00:33:39   about favorite things from the [TS]

00:33:41   incomparable for the last year I i wanna [TS]

00:33:44   first we're going to start with the [TS]

00:33:45   listeners and then we'll move on to our [TS]

00:33:47   our selections the listeners are here [TS]

00:33:49   why do they get to go first because we [TS]

00:33:51   love the listeners are because we love [TS]

00:33:53   our listeners Steve they're always in [TS]

00:33:55   fact if they're not listening [TS]

00:33:57   there's no podcast if they're not [TS]

00:33:59   listening we don't exist that's not true [TS]

00:34:01   we would still be doing this stupid [TS]

00:34:02   thing if nobody was it so totally deep [TS]

00:34:04   me I did have a dimension from junk [TS]

00:34:06   siracusa who told me to mentioned the [TS]

00:34:10   alien episode because he got to [TS]

00:34:12   rediscover the film and then apparently [TS]

00:34:13   scared the bejesus out of his son by [TS]

00:34:15   showing you all right here some here [TS]

00:34:19   some letters with some some of these [TS]

00:34:21   letter-writer sent clips which is the [TS]

00:34:23   best thing [TS]

00:34:24   those are the best listen you love those [TS]

00:34:26   listen we don't break us because we did [TS]

00:34:28   not do [TS]

00:34:29   that yellow letters from listeners [TS]

00:34:31   leopards we get them here is our first [TS]

00:34:34   letter oh yeah you have a song for this [TS]

00:34:35   one [TS]

00:34:36   no no no I'm just singing but I don't [TS]

00:34:39   have a swing on a letter song for this [TS]

00:34:40   now [TS]

00:34:41   alright well okay then here it is this [TS]

00:34:43   is this is a letter from jeff last name [TS]

00:34:45   withheld who says hello incomparable [TS]

00:34:48   host my favorite moments from 2016 mr. [TS]

00:34:51   Jeff involve a crossover source thanks [TS]

00:34:54   to Jason John others i spent much of [TS]

00:34:56   2015 catching up with dance to elliot [TS]

00:34:59   and the house cat [TS]

00:35:00   wow so imagine my delight when the [TS]

00:35:03   flophouse podcast was repeatedly [TS]

00:35:05   referenced across the network and i hope [TS]

00:35:08   you enjoy a few of my favorites when [TS]

00:35:13   somebody's gonna knock four times i'm [TS]

00:35:16   not back to my readers that's how it [TS]

00:35:17   works okay everybody ready [TS]

00:35:19   that's how it works anyway that's how it [TS]

00:35:21   works thank you to know haha oh hello [TS]

00:35:26   alright those are the potential [TS]

00:35:29   suggestions that autocomplete might have [TS]

00:35:31   added onto my what if mr. Spock search [TS]

00:35:33   term i'm really disappointed that meta [TS]

00:35:35   dinosaur was not one of those but many [TS]

00:35:37   dinosaurs this man that's gaga it'sit's [TS]

00:35:41   um he's a good bad movie bad either of [TS]

00:35:44   you kinda like Jason well brian i think [TS]

00:35:46   it's a piece of shit [TS]

00:35:47   if I may open up a fourth category [TS]

00:35:49   should I just do as I traditionally [TS]

00:35:53   doing which is walk us through the plot [TS]

00:35:54   and let you stop me and tell me what you [TS]

00:35:56   want to tell and then I tried to move on [TS]

00:35:58   and then steve says what wait wait wait [TS]

00:35:59   you missed something and then we back up [TS]

00:36:01   and then we go forward we do that it's [TS]

00:36:03   it's working also how it works that's [TS]

00:36:05   how it works [TS]

00:36:06   no haha I should we stop now hello hello [TS]

00:36:09   and it's just you know I I feel like [TS]

00:36:12   they could have had a dangerous space [TS]

00:36:14   weapon or some other thing on a planet [TS]

00:36:17   that was not literally [TS]

00:36:18   what if the Death Star wasn't a planet [TS]

00:36:20   instead of a space station and it bugs [TS]

00:36:23   me [TS]

00:36:24   not as much as seeing estar were one of [TS]

00:36:27   us [TS]

00:36:27   yeah I just what if anything thats what [TS]

00:36:30   if any metal just started the more i [TS]

00:36:33   think about gallant like I i like that [TS]

00:36:34   actor and you mad about mad star mad [TS]

00:36:37   about mad he's so mad about mad got that [TS]

00:36:40   reference acknowledged keep on flopping [TS]

00:36:43   in the new year Jeff last name withheld [TS]

00:36:45   see I took me awhile to realize that was [TS]

00:36:47   listener Jeff because you introduced him [TS]

00:36:49   as Jeff last name withheld but now I [TS]

00:36:51   understand it's across the room and [TS]

00:36:53   listen I know right [TS]

00:36:55   that'll be in next year's closer i just [TS]

00:36:56   want to praise that by the way listeners [TS]

00:36:58   this is how you get elevated to godhood [TS]

00:37:01   make your own clip montage and send it [TS]

00:37:04   in to me my fingers press buttons [TS]

00:37:06   Zachary it's the best that's how it [TS]

00:37:09   works [TS]

00:37:10   that's how is work it's not that hard we [TS]

00:37:12   repeat ourselves a lot we do this is [TS]

00:37:14   true we do just take a ready themselves [TS]

00:37:16   a lot of the hard part is choosing we do [TS]

00:37:19   which wich times we repeat ourselves [TS]

00:37:21   listener Kevin road in mr. Kevin and [TS]

00:37:26   disappointed me by saying hi jason i had [TS]

00:37:27   grand plans of extracting audio which I [TS]

00:37:30   didn't oh but I took these no next when [TS]

00:37:34   walking around listening to a comparable [TS]

00:37:35   properties i think i ever gave a time [TS]

00:37:37   stamp or direct overcast link in every [TS]

00:37:39   case of some of my favorite moments okay [TS]

00:37:40   well I can do some work and put this [TS]

00:37:42   together no more than i did i miss many [TS]

00:37:45   great moments because i was driving my [TS]

00:37:46   car and in my selfishness didn't want to [TS]

00:37:49   die [TS]

00:37:50   yeah I am I get a little more to the [TS]

00:37:53   podcast so here [TS]

00:37:55   here are some here are some suggestions [TS]

00:37:56   from listen Kevin in a total party kill [TS]

00:38:00   71 strumming his piccolo in which carlos [TS]

00:38:02   learns to stroma piccolo it is filthy [TS]

00:38:06   and erotic right yeah yeah and wonderful [TS]

00:38:11   and this actually earlier it's where [TS]

00:38:13   where Scott initially makes the mistake [TS]

00:38:15   of suggesting that a piccolo is an [TS]

00:38:17   instrument community struggles yeah [TS]

00:38:19   funny too yep one little mistake and it [TS]

00:38:22   all goes horribly wrong [TS]

00:38:24   it does that's when we're at our best [TS]

00:38:25   when it's less we're asking my again [TS]

00:38:29   when you can be super and it's like whoa [TS]

00:38:31   there there's a lot of more pan in that [TS]

00:38:33   thing you can get a what's new [TS]

00:38:35   that's it with serious amount of managed [TS]

00:38:38   in this episode you see an elven barred [TS]

00:38:41   a shrooming a piccolo you strum a pickle [TS]

00:38:46   leave with me doesn't make any noise but [TS]

00:38:48   you can do it he's doing it she that's [TS]

00:38:50   good because you don't never stole from [TS]

00:38:53   my piccolo in public is kind of a [TS]

00:38:55   classic powered well it's a phase ii and [TS]

00:38:59   piccolo it's just see if he thinks the [TS]

00:39:04   pic above it's just a guitar with one [TS]

00:39:07   string becomes a nice guitar it's a [TS]

00:39:10   pickle all obviously there are a number [TS]

00:39:14   of open tables [TS]

00:39:15   you don't need a restoration because of [TS]

00:39:19   yeah because of the piccolo strumming [TS]

00:39:22   and there anything else that you guys [TS]

00:39:29   want to do [TS]

00:39:29   yeah can I album art if you let me start [TS]

00:39:32   from his pickle [TS]

00:39:34   Wow roll christmas show you know as you [TS]

00:39:40   know so you do a carlos don't know [TS]

00:39:42   that's not cool man that's not cool [TS]

00:39:46   don't don't do it bad [TS]

00:39:49   it's a critical hit hi [TS]

00:39:52   he says you you look like someone who [TS]

00:39:55   would appreciate a good pickle I want to [TS]

00:39:59   leave now we're ready i'm ready to help [TS]

00:40:03   and he heads over his Piccolo and just [TS]

00:40:05   let me let me show you how to strum it [TS]

00:40:07   Carl anybody wants attention know how [TS]

00:40:17   Carlos knows how to strum an elven [TS]

00:40:22   Nicola my Carlos is gonna get better [TS]

00:40:25   information that's good and yeah but [TS]

00:40:32   also you like when it comes out and you [TS]

00:40:33   might not be too happy about it [TS]

00:40:35   oh god no oh man he just snapped me you [TS]

00:40:42   can love it too [TS]

00:40:43   can I uncomfortable gameshow 29 [TS]

00:40:45   inconceivable when we learned that the [TS]

00:40:48   acronym from Star Trek lcars stands for [TS]

00:40:51   make something I think you might get one [TS]

00:40:53   of the words right well that's what i [TS]

00:40:54   was thinking like doesn't have to [TS]

00:40:55   can we just make a powerful yeah totally [TS]

00:40:57   i would love for you to make up their [TS]

00:40:58   own acronyms you must [TS]

00:41:00   let's start with life-form l always like [TS]

00:41:03   for our laser laser calls music ah these [TS]

00:41:09   cars are really sweet [TS]

00:41:11   come on you you'd basically their cars [TS]

00:41:14   yeah if you guys give me the laser cars [TS]

00:41:16   are really sweet unfortunately for [TS]

00:41:17   Michael but if you guys give me that you [TS]

00:41:18   got a point you have a wall washer total [TS]

00:41:22   party kill 73 two moles of the filer and [TS]

00:41:24   a beetle place he says I like when Scott [TS]

00:41:27   just made Dungeons and Dragons efficient [TS]

00:41:29   by banning hairbrained schemes no more [TS]

00:41:32   it's no longer Rita it's a ruin [TS]

00:41:35   but it's also a camp for the house Sean [TS]

00:41:39   guards and you guessed that they're [TS]

00:41:41   probably 50 or so guards just camping [TS]

00:41:44   out in the arena how we can take a let [TS]

00:41:46   me ask a question and then this arena is [TS]

00:41:48   kind of set down into the ground a [TS]

00:41:49   little bit you cannot fill it with water [TS]

00:41:52   your clothes we feel close the door [TS]

00:41:57   web them close and then just what is [TS]

00:41:59   that the question you're going to ask [TS]

00:42:00   yes we like why bunch of the momentum a [TS]

00:42:04   geyser question I've got this rope if [TS]

00:42:08   you use your page had and tie rope class [TS]

00:42:10   i hovered above the areata know you [TS]

00:42:13   still cannot fill it with water we can [TS]

00:42:15   convince them it's raining that we [TS]

00:42:16   control the power of whether you walk [TS]

00:42:18   past that because you thought out there [TS]

00:42:19   there are way too many people there yes [TS]

00:42:21   to handle and all of our hairbrained [TS]

00:42:23   schemes will just get us killed so let [TS]

00:42:25   us focus on the mission and go towards [TS]

00:42:27   the cigarette and you you walk around [TS]

00:42:31   the cigarette i'm just going to sit back [TS]

00:42:33   and drink my beer and see what we do you [TS]

00:42:36   know like relearning has never felt so [TS]

00:42:38   good just arrived rain-shortened those [TS]

00:42:42   episodes by like seventy percent but she [TS]

00:42:45   isn't telling us and now you're going to [TS]

00:42:47   go through the door which is not trapped [TS]

00:42:49   ok what from the incomparable 300 the [TS]

00:42:54   incomparable as people when Steve let's [TS]

00:42:56   said oh I think spending hours and days [TS]

00:42:59   and weeks of your life obsessing about [TS]

00:43:01   every little detail of some sort of fan [TS]

00:43:03   property yeah kind of a waste of time [TS]

00:43:05   rocky there you go question the whole [TS]

00:43:09   premise of this podcast Steve what's [TS]

00:43:11   going on i was in the context of saying [TS]

00:43:13   controversial things that we were and [TS]

00:43:15   were forced to do that by a listener I [TS]

00:43:17   didn't want to say that under normal [TS]

00:43:19   conditions i would probably say that [TS]

00:43:21   here's here's one from mr. dan who I [TS]

00:43:24   should say is actually now panelist Dan [TS]

00:43:26   because he was damn from Mara Twilight [TS]

00:43:28   Zone episode panelist analyst can [TS]

00:43:30   exactly right is breaking for my pattern [TS]

00:43:33   i don't have an audio submission this [TS]

00:43:35   time [TS]

00:43:35   oh come on but here are some notes with [TS]

00:43:38   timecode dan brought he brought the [TS]

00:43:40   timecode about the incredible 2016 is [TS]

00:43:43   gonna get demoted back to listeners [TS]

00:43:45   well there's one here [TS]

00:43:48   episode 2 81 from the 2015 recap show [TS]

00:43:52   within which future Steve warrants [TS]

00:43:55   president Steve about the dangers of [TS]

00:43:57   chipotle what when did that happen [TS]

00:44:00   PE were out of the room or you may have [TS]

00:44:02   been only [TS]

00:44:03   you need him soon and future play [TS]

00:44:05   episode 27 Nausicaa always enjoyed [TS]

00:44:07   professor syracuse are leading us [TS]

00:44:09   through these great films this was no [TS]

00:44:10   exception [TS]

00:44:11   including this clip in which John notes [TS]

00:44:14   that a key point of the film is that [TS]

00:44:16   heroism is not manliness [TS]

00:44:18   yes that's a favorite moment it's not a [TS]

00:44:20   joke this movie emphasizes many many [TS]

00:44:22   many times that heroism does not equal [TS]

00:44:25   quote-unquote manliness right she [TS]

00:44:27   doesn't kill the all that the job to be [TS]

00:44:29   nice to save the person she resolves the [TS]

00:44:31   conflict by calming leone down they [TS]

00:44:34   don't hit you over the head with it but [TS]

00:44:35   almost every conflict but it with her [TS]

00:44:38   interaction in that conflict is to try [TS]

00:44:40   to do something good which is the good [TS]

00:44:41   guy i try to save people say people who [TS]

00:44:44   might even be your enemy or whatever and [TS]

00:44:46   to resolve conflicts she's always trying [TS]

00:44:48   to de-escalate she was put in normal [TS]

00:44:50   situations that she has to be the hero [TS]

00:44:51   but she doesn't do the stereotypical [TS]

00:44:54   physical dominance manly macho solution [TS]

00:44:58   to these problems she is not a killing [TS]

00:44:59   machine she's not even the world's best [TS]

00:45:01   swordsman she can barely lift the sword [TS]

00:45:02   that she uses an anger later in the [TS]

00:45:04   movie and also from that episode when [TS]

00:45:07   Erica saying the song from the movie [TS]

00:45:09   na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na yeah it's it's [TS]

00:45:15   still in my head [TS]

00:45:16   he also mentioned episode through and [TS]

00:45:17   the spaceship draft including this clip [TS]

00:45:19   we're John tries to conceal his delight [TS]

00:45:22   when pill picking the Millennium Falcon [TS]

00:45:24   and fails if you were to see this ship [TS]

00:45:26   you may find yourself thinking what a [TS]

00:45:28   piece of junk pressure maybe this one is [TS]

00:45:31   garbage [TS]

00:45:32   mmm saw me arrive in the ship you say [TS]

00:45:34   you came here and that thing you're [TS]

00:45:36   braver than I thought [TS]

00:45:37   fast ship you've never heard of the [TS]

00:45:39   Millennium Falcon the ship that made the [TS]

00:45:41   Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs it's [TS]

00:45:43   outrun Imperial starships not the local [TS]

00:45:45   bulk cruisers mind you talking about the [TS]

00:45:46   big Corellian ships now she may not look [TS]

00:45:48   like much but she's got it where it [TS]

00:45:50   counts kid the morning Falcon is my [TS]

00:45:52   number one pick and i can't believe it [TS]

00:45:54   wasn't already chosen and then later [TS]

00:45:59   later in that episode John also stole [TS]

00:46:01   chips pic and the best thing that [TS]

00:46:03   happens in the draft is that people in [TS]

00:46:06   general and chip in particular you get [TS]

00:46:08   angry [TS]

00:46:09   this is the gym [TS]

00:46:10   cool of the Star League the gun star [TS]

00:46:13   Starfighter yeah this was a very [TS]

00:46:19   interesting design very good record [TS]

00:46:23   how can you tell when Syracuse expressed [TS]

00:46:25   his delight because I think he gets [TS]

00:46:28   louder so dizzy I think that might be a [TS]

00:46:30   UH listener panelist and also liked [TS]

00:46:33   episode 3 20 are Frankenstein island [TS]

00:46:36   specifically he wanted me to play this [TS]

00:46:37   clip of me doing one of my many [TS]

00:46:39   impressions of Jaco or no its beauty [TS]

00:46:41   says you you you I have to take this to [TS]

00:46:43   the the the house instead of and it's [TS]

00:46:46   like instead of having it for dinner [TS]

00:46:48   haha haha ah i just did that with live [TS]

00:46:56   that wasn't even a clip i could do that [TS]

00:46:59   I demand [TS]

00:47:00   wow yeah that's only left because I'm [TS]

00:47:03   not be happy when Jacko roles in today [TS]

00:47:04   you cannot that dude and i will say [TS]

00:47:08   having seen that live it's amazing other [TS]

00:47:11   favorites from dan he loved a batman the [TS]

00:47:13   animated series episode alien The [TS]

00:47:16   Godfather the live draft and his least [TS]

00:47:20   favorite moment was in a beer episode [TS]

00:47:23   when we discussed the matter we put [TS]

00:47:24   coconut porter he said it sounds [TS]

00:47:25   delicious and i discovered it is not [TS]

00:47:27   available anywhere near me and finally [TS]

00:47:30   the biggest dream come true and [TS]

00:47:32   reporters at the episode there are we [TS]

00:47:33   find a better one episode 3 27 biggest [TS]

00:47:36   dream came true even though i fell [TS]

00:47:37   victim to the same listening more than [TS]

00:47:39   talking trap so many others have getting [TS]

00:47:41   invited to participate in the episode [TS]

00:47:42   was great fun thank you for having me [TS]

00:47:44   listener Dan Thank You mr. damn mr. [TS]

00:47:47   panelist and listener dad / panels damn [TS]

00:47:50   alright I've got a couple more Clips [TS]

00:47:52   here so here we go hit this is I believe [TS]

00:47:56   if I've done this right this is our [TS]

00:47:58   friend listener in friend Ian there [TS]

00:48:03   Jason and company now in McCann on here [TS]

00:48:05   in the islands Lewis and Scotland [TS]

00:48:06   another year has come on going on the [TS]

00:48:09   incomparable has delivered as always [TS]

00:48:11   delivered what had some fantastic [TS]

00:48:13   episodes this year some of the stuff [TS]

00:48:16   that springs to mind would be the david [TS]

00:48:18   bailey episode the nebula nominees [TS]

00:48:21   episode which sorted me out for my [TS]

00:48:23   entire [TS]

00:48:23   vacations reading thank you so much for [TS]

00:48:25   that the BR episode was a lot of fun [TS]

00:48:28   the monster supervillain draft also [TS]

00:48:31   fantastic fun ongoing stuff as well like [TS]

00:48:34   the game show episodes which are always [TS]

00:48:36   just fantastic and total party kill [TS]

00:48:38   phenomenal but this year if i was going [TS]

00:48:43   to nail it down i would have to say that [TS]

00:48:45   two episodes of rocket surgery in [TS]

00:48:47   particular have cost me to go online Lou [TS]

00:48:51   keep the original material that you are [TS]

00:48:52   discussed i watch it and then waste more [TS]

00:48:55   time real listening for class [TS]

00:48:57   multivac mistakes were made the first of [TS]

00:49:00   these would be episode 322 Frankenstein [TS]

00:49:03   island in which you discuss the power [TS]

00:49:06   the power the power of power and ours me [TS]

00:49:09   right out of that summer I spent in [TS]

00:49:11   southern california by our network it [TS]

00:49:15   where do the ultimate cake can only [TS]

00:49:18   really be one thing the kool Kat episode [TS]

00:49:21   ah there he is there it is not picking a [TS]

00:49:24   moment from the kool Kat episode is [TS]

00:49:26   almost impossible as the entire thing is [TS]

00:49:29   solid gold but as a sort of [TS]

00:49:31   Representative clip [TS]

00:49:33   here's my pick Philip Michaels [TS]

00:49:35   sabotaging a rare incidents of Steve [TS]

00:49:39   lots trying to be diplomatic and kind [TS]

00:49:41   about particular I have no recollection [TS]

00:49:44   of this i don't want to pick on which [TS]

00:49:47   the boy he's just a kid he's a bully [TS]

00:49:49   it's not his fault he got cast in this [TS]

00:49:51   movie it's the fault of the [TS]

00:49:52   quote-unquote casting director with the [TS]

00:49:55   comma csa after his name which [TS]

00:49:57   theoretically makes him a member of some [TS]

00:49:59   sort of professional casting society now [TS]

00:50:01   but which the bully strikes me as the [TS]

00:50:03   kind of kid who would be so quickly [TS]

00:50:05   bullied by every other child on the [TS]

00:50:07   street including the weird mascot man [TS]

00:50:09   i'm gonna i'm gonna fight you on this [TS]

00:50:11   because i think it's the bully maybe the [TS]

00:50:13   best character in this movie is [TS]

00:50:15   wonderful don't get me wrong as i was [TS]

00:50:18   asleep he has turned him he has turned [TS]

00:50:20   to bully because when you're a doughy [TS]

00:50:21   albino [TS]

00:50:22   good hunting am i right [TS]

00:50:27   yeah alright lets out there that was [TS]

00:50:29   going to try to avoid saying but it's [TS]

00:50:30   out there now you've got to use weapons [TS]

00:50:32   and his weapons are his wits and his [TS]

00:50:35   crew laughs yes [TS]

00:50:38   delhi albino with a speech and pick up [TS]

00:50:44   that's our foot shut up bonehead the [TS]

00:50:46   bully ok t-bone it [TS]

00:50:48   oh alright and I have one more clip from [TS]

00:50:51   a listener and it is listener Taylor [TS]

00:50:54   Oh Taylor yeah hello nerds this is [TS]

00:50:58   listening to Taylor here and my favorite [TS]

00:51:00   moment from the incomparable this year [TS]

00:51:01   was every time anybody said dare he is [TS]

00:51:05   in reference to ya mother if Jason could [TS]

00:51:08   combine a supercut of everyone saying [TS]

00:51:10   there he is right here [TS]

00:51:12   yeah Jason do that nope haha yeah he is [TS]

00:51:17   oh yeah here he is there anybody there [TS]

00:51:20   make lemonade [TS]

00:51:22   do you want to know what vivica did i do [TS]

00:51:24   not yeah he ok time for us to talk about [TS]

00:51:28   our favorite our own favorite things now [TS]

00:51:30   that we've gotten the those listeners [TS]

00:51:32   out of the way who sent those clips and [TS]

00:51:34   things like very nice helpful people [TS]

00:51:36   that they were of those listening [TS]

00:51:38   David would you like to tell us your [TS]

00:51:42   favorite and comfortable things beer [TS]

00:51:43   sure i also have some favorite rocket [TS]

00:51:47   surgery episodes I I highly enjoyed GOG [TS]

00:51:51   rocket science is such members got [TS]

00:51:54   frightening it and the and then kool Kat [TS]

00:52:01   kool Kat would be my favorite episode [TS]

00:52:02   that I was not on this year [TS]

00:52:04   why do I was going to be on it and i [TS]

00:52:06   watch the damn thing three times so [TS]

00:52:09   nobody to blame but yourself for that [TS]

00:52:12   you ended up ahead [TS]

00:52:14   yeah really i love finally getting to [TS]

00:52:19   talk Astro City because i think i think [TS]

00:52:22   that was one of the very first things [TS]

00:52:24   they suggested yeah [TS]

00:52:25   way way back it was on my list somewhere [TS]

00:52:28   in four years takes three or four years [TS]

00:52:30   you know and also finally talking about [TS]

00:52:33   twilight zone [TS]

00:52:34   is that I love those two I enjoyed the [TS]

00:52:37   star wars travesties draft and maybe my [TS]

00:52:41   favorite episode of the year was the [TS]

00:52:44   Anaheim doing the the live episode now [TS]

00:52:47   hear this and partly to have an audience [TS]

00:52:50   and partly to have a ridiculously [TS]

00:52:52   wonderful topic and partly just to hang [TS]

00:52:54   out with you guys for three days that [TS]

00:52:58   was utterly delightful between that and [TS]

00:53:00   and hanging out in Anaheim it's been a [TS]

00:53:02   good year [TS]

00:53:02   Erica what about you you have some [TS]

00:53:04   favorite incomparable things i do so so [TS]

00:53:07   the first part of my list is is from [TS]

00:53:10   those those glorious few weeks where I [TS]

00:53:12   was actually good job and yeah and I I [TS]

00:53:15   don't have clips but I think I have time [TS]

00:53:17   codes for at least most of them to high [TS]

00:53:19   200 huh yep so I don't even have episode [TS]

00:53:23   numbers for some of these moved here but [TS]

00:53:26   the the first one is the clip show [TS]

00:53:28   I'm oh good that's where it's always [TS]

00:53:30   good yeah reference like you do [TS]

00:53:32   what's what's about to happen here [TS]

00:53:33   there's there was one where there is a [TS]

00:53:36   funny exchange between Steve and Glenn [TS]

00:53:39   which that's not possible which I [TS]

00:53:41   thought was sort of the perfect [TS]

00:53:42   encapsulation of Glenn's participation [TS]

00:53:44   to participation on the podcast let's [TS]

00:53:47   see just a few more episodes to film on [TS]

00:53:49   somerset you're one to talk led I don't [TS]

00:53:54   want a dog and then there was also a [TS]

00:53:57   moment to where I actually admitted that [TS]

00:54:00   I quite like wat Oh from episode one of [TS]

00:54:03   the Phantom Menace but then then I also [TS]

00:54:06   said I know he's awful but I love him [TS]

00:54:08   anyway I love a lot of awful people from [TS]

00:54:11   haha the title this episode you know you [TS]

00:54:14   done i was gonna say I'm here aren't I [TS]

00:54:16   but I think that's just too small [TS]

00:54:19   no I i I'll allow it hey who you calling [TS]

00:54:22   awful i also liked an episode 2 92 which [TS]

00:54:28   was called I have an appointment with a [TS]

00:54:29   fully ambassador which was about bad new [TS]

00:54:32   star trek we're near the beginning of [TS]

00:54:34   the project podcast brianna is on inch [TS]

00:54:36   she just comes clean right off the bat [TS]

00:54:39   eh i feel like i have a history of [TS]

00:54:41   having positive things to say but [TS]

00:54:44   mountings that many geeks don't like I [TS]

00:54:47   am blank this week I got nothing for [TS]

00:54:49   that will help me and bri doesn't have [TS]

00:54:52   anything there is a very bad it's over [TS]

00:54:54   that was just like I am ready to dig [TS]

00:54:57   into this episode now that was a great [TS]

00:54:59   moment [TS]

00:55:00   yeah that was good i was i I was pretty [TS]

00:55:02   cool with those selections I gotta say [TS]

00:55:03   we all had to watch nemesis that still [TS]

00:55:06   is tough it was tough [TS]

00:55:07   good let's see and then later in that [TS]

00:55:10   episode there was a moment where Jason [TS]

00:55:13   was describing how Picard talking to his [TS]

00:55:15   clone should be good and dan just starts [TS]

00:55:18   shouting and the idea that you have [TS]

00:55:21   scenes work regarding his clone are [TS]

00:55:23   doing like hello I'm just like you it [TS]

00:55:26   sounds like those students would be good [TS]

00:55:28   right so boring it's so boring why is [TS]

00:55:32   this boring i can't figure it out it [TS]

00:55:34   should be good but it's boring you know [TS]

00:55:37   you don't get yelling damn quite as [TS]

00:55:39   often as I would like to feel like we [TS]

00:55:40   are bad things episodes because I I [TS]

00:55:42   appreciate yelling dan yelling dan is [TS]

00:55:45   utterly like from as it is my want i [TS]

00:55:47   scanned through the episode titles and [TS]

00:55:51   made a quick list of some of the other [TS]

00:55:52   ones that I quite enjoyed and the first [TS]

00:55:54   one was actually one of the ones that [TS]

00:55:56   Antony johnston was the host for and [TS]

00:55:59   that was the David Bowie episode which [TS]

00:56:02   was very early in 2016 like one of the [TS]

00:56:06   first first signs that it was going to [TS]

00:56:07   go downhill and fast that was a podcast [TS]

00:56:11   that kind of meant a lot to me and I got [TS]

00:56:13   a little emotional and I don't usually [TS]

00:56:15   cry and podcast but that was I think one [TS]

00:56:17   of the exceptions so it was it was good [TS]

00:56:20   and in a different way from a lot of [TS]

00:56:21   these podcast but another one that was I [TS]

00:56:26   didn't get we people was kind of [TS]

00:56:27   important along the same lines was a [TS]

00:56:29   episodes 288 and 289 I wish I was back [TS]

00:56:33   in [TS]

00:56:33   norway and it's not Hamilton and those [TS]

00:56:35   were the album draft which while they [TS]

00:56:38   were super fun to participate in the [TS]

00:56:40   preparation for those was one of the [TS]

00:56:42   hardest things I've ever had to do for a [TS]

00:56:44   podcast i had to go through the list of [TS]

00:56:47   elves like picking favorite children it [TS]

00:56:49   was really it was tough [TS]

00:56:50   yeah i think we liken it to sophie's [TS]

00:56:52   choice in the reference also really was [TS]

00:56:56   but i noticed i have learned that Jason [TS]

00:56:58   and I have very similar case so it's [TS]

00:57:01   nice to have somebody that I can I can [TS]

00:57:02   be you know mostly trust their musical [TS]

00:57:05   tastes so when I need a recommendation [TS]

00:57:07   for something I know to go to and that [TS]

00:57:09   guy is Jason k number 297 i'm going to [TS]

00:57:12   agree with one of our listeners the only [TS]

00:57:15   whisper which was finally a miyazaki [TS]

00:57:17   movie that i have seen and it's it's one [TS]

00:57:20   that i love so I got 22 beyond that that [TS]

00:57:22   was great i liked episode three hundred [TS]

00:57:25   because we took listener questions and I [TS]

00:57:27   thought that was really fun just to hear [TS]

00:57:29   what they wanted to know which was [TS]

00:57:32   sometimes interesting and sometimes [TS]

00:57:33   baffling so it was that one time we love [TS]

00:57:36   our listeners we love them like those [TS]

00:57:38   egos we love our listeners la alright [TS]

00:57:41   episode 301 we've mentioned a couple [TS]

00:57:44   times that was the the one about the [TS]

00:57:46   nebula books and i'm going to echo what [TS]

00:57:48   Jason said the two favorite books [TS]

00:57:50   Jason's were also my favorite books 309 [TS]

00:57:53   boats in space you gotta have a draft [TS]

00:57:56   oh yeah sure you can get through year [TS]

00:57:58   without picking a draft is a favorite [TS]

00:58:00   and I think spaceships is one of the [TS]

00:58:02   nerdier things possible to draft a [TS]

00:58:04   podcast so it was right up my alley [TS]

00:58:06   that was a lot of fun one that I [TS]

00:58:08   listened to but was not on was episode 3 [TS]

00:58:11   13 the ziggurats of Yavin 4 which was [TS]

00:58:15   another one of those handy Johnston ones [TS]

00:58:17   was a and I quite liked how you guys [TS]

00:58:19   framed it as sort of the rebel podcast [TS]

00:58:21   breaking in to the main feed that was [TS]

00:58:24   was clever and took a little bit of [TS]

00:58:25   editing and as an editor myself i always [TS]

00:58:28   appreciate when that is done well and [TS]

00:58:29   that was done well nice work this is the [TS]

00:58:32   best Erica selections of the best [TS]

00:58:33   everybody she's so every barn raising me [TS]

00:58:36   hi back [TS]

00:58:38   haha and then i'm also gonna say upset [TS]

00:58:42   325 the monster mash which was our live [TS]

00:58:44   episode that now hear this [TS]

00:58:46   which is just all kinds of fun and the [TS]

00:58:50   of the fact that we had so many people [TS]

00:58:52   that we had have some of the panelists [TS]

00:58:54   at the kids table which was lower than [TS]

00:58:56   all of the rest of it and and I just [TS]

00:58:59   have to to give a quick shout-out to [TS]

00:59:01   like even when the incomparable is [TS]

00:59:03   difficult shall we say it's still fun [TS]

00:59:06   because there were some episodes that [TS]

00:59:08   sort of left me shaking my head but but [TS]

00:59:11   in a good way [TS]

00:59:12   um episode 291 I like complicated books [TS]

00:59:15   Glenn where we read Aurora and Luna boy [TS]

00:59:19   I did not like those books at all but it [TS]

00:59:22   was it was still kind of fun to talk [TS]

00:59:23   about them and you know I don't know [TS]

00:59:26   that i'm glad that i read the books but [TS]

00:59:27   I'm glad that I got to talk about them [TS]

00:59:29   with you guys [TS]

00:59:30   same thing with episode 316 just add [TS]

00:59:32   Jesuits that was what we talked about [TS]

00:59:34   the sparrow which I also really did not [TS]

00:59:37   like it turns out turns out Scott and I [TS]

00:59:39   do not have similar tetona works [TS]

00:59:42   that's what I learned in 2016 that's [TS]

00:59:44   unfortunate because Scott is the one who [TS]

00:59:46   recommends all our books [TS]

00:59:48   yeah yeah yeah I've yeah i might just [TS]

00:59:51   need not become the Book Club podcast [TS]

00:59:53   quite so often somebody needs to be [TS]

00:59:55   there to tell scott what's what [TS]

00:59:56   that's true that's true that's true and [TS]

00:59:59   then all [TS]

00:59:59   then all [TS]

01:00:00   so as I already mentioned episode 2 92 [TS]

01:00:01   about bad Star Trek you know i'm not [TS]

01:00:04   usually on Star Trek episodes but I [TS]

01:00:07   decided sure i'll be on this one and the [TS]

01:00:09   one time I decide to join in we watch [TS]

01:00:11   insurrection and nemesis great just [TS]

01:00:14   great you're welcome [TS]

01:00:15   yeah thanks thanks Jackson well um and [TS]

01:00:20   then this couple of other sort of little [TS]

01:00:22   shadow it's all of total party kill has [TS]

01:00:24   just been so fun this year both being on [TS]

01:00:27   it and editing it which means that I I [TS]

01:00:30   learned everything so I've become sort [TS]

01:00:32   of the walking encyclopedia for where [TS]

01:00:34   we've been and what we've done and [TS]

01:00:35   that's kind of funny to that makes me [TS]

01:00:37   laugh especially when you're playing the [TS]

01:00:39   dumb character i know it's like I really [TS]

01:00:41   should have thought that through ahead [TS]

01:00:42   time except they didn't know I was going [TS]

01:00:43   to be editing the podcast when it [TS]

01:00:45   created that character i should have [TS]

01:00:47   created somebody very very smart [TS]

01:00:48   maybe in the future dumb rogue / a [TS]

01:00:51   repository of all knowledge involving [TS]

01:00:53   the party for the last Kiev maybe maybe [TS]

01:00:56   flesh a got bonked on the head at one [TS]

01:00:58   point she's just a savant of of some [TS]

01:01:00   sort of systemic sense stereotypical we [TS]

01:01:03   don't want you can have a good memory [TS]

01:01:04   but still be done [TS]

01:01:05   yeah that's true um and game show as [TS]

01:01:09   other people have mentioned game show is [TS]

01:01:11   always great and that is one where as [TS]

01:01:13   fun as it is to be on a game show [TS]

01:01:15   episodes I i also like not being on them [TS]

01:01:18   because it's so delightful to have a new [TS]

01:01:20   game show episode to listen to that I [TS]

01:01:23   haven't heard yet dropping mike you [TS]

01:01:25   always those are great i also enjoyed my [TS]

01:01:29   participation in a few episodes of a [TS]

01:01:31   foot with Glenn this year we watched the [TS]

01:01:33   first season of veronica mars and talked [TS]

01:01:36   about that that was wonderful i I've [TS]

01:01:39   always been a Veronica Mars fan but I [TS]

01:01:41   had forgotten just how great that first [TS]

01:01:43   season is until i went back and watched [TS]

01:01:44   again so it was good to have the the [TS]

01:01:48   opportunity to do that and i did already [TS]

01:01:49   also also kind of mentioned lady doctor [TS]

01:01:52   who but doing lady doctor who on the [TS]

01:01:54   incomparable podcast network has been [TS]

01:01:56   really fun Stephen was actually telling [TS]

01:01:58   me that somebody discovered Radio Free [TS]

01:02:00   Skaro his doctor who podcast through [TS]

01:02:03   lazy Doctor Who much in the world 25 [TS]

01:02:06   casting that's kind of bunkers know that [TS]

01:02:09   was exciting [TS]

01:02:10   it'sit's me when that stuff happens [TS]

01:02:12   probably the last and very best thing [TS]

01:02:15   about the incomparable that that I [TS]

01:02:18   cottoned on to this year was actually [TS]

01:02:20   only in Sims because I know it wasn't [TS]

01:02:22   officially her her first appearances on [TS]

01:02:25   the incomparable flagship show came [TS]

01:02:27   toward the end of 2015 but this was the [TS]

01:02:29   first year that Helene was you know [TS]

01:02:31   fairly regularly on the panel and I just [TS]

01:02:34   remember listening to the first few [TS]

01:02:36   episodes with her and being like oh [TS]

01:02:37   we've got a new person who's the Saline [TS]

01:02:39   person and I was not on the episodes [TS]

01:02:42   with her for the first few that she was [TS]

01:02:44   on and when I was listening I was like [TS]

01:02:46   quite often when i listen to the [TS]

01:02:48   incomparable and i'm not on i have [TS]

01:02:50   moments where I'm you know talking back [TS]

01:02:52   to my my phone and being like oh my god [TS]

01:02:54   you guys this is wrong [TS]

01:02:55   here's your this is why oh well as [TS]

01:02:58   possible and and and when Alan was on it [TS]

01:03:01   was just like hey i don't i don't need [TS]

01:03:04   to be here somebody is saying those [TS]

01:03:05   things that I would be saying it was it [TS]

01:03:07   was kind of a magical moment so just [TS]

01:03:10   getting to know a lean in [TS]

01:03:12   in addition to meeting her in person [TS]

01:03:13   like I already said getting to know her [TS]

01:03:15   and listen to her on the podcast and [TS]

01:03:17   then sometimes talk with her on the [TS]

01:03:19   podcast has been really great so I am [TS]

01:03:22   very very happy about that and I hope [TS]

01:03:24   she continues to be on lots of episodes [TS]

01:03:25   in the future but maybe not more than me [TS]

01:03:28   ok fine more than me you bonded over [TS]

01:03:30   those two books that you didn't like so [TS]

01:03:32   that was that was your first episode [TS]

01:03:34   together [TS]

01:03:34   nice that's right but yeah so that's [TS]

01:03:38   that's it that's my list [TS]

01:03:39   okay that brings us to Monte well I was [TS]

01:03:42   very fond of episode 2 86 in which we [TS]

01:03:45   talked about Hamilton and american [TS]

01:03:47   musical yeah to learn much much more [TS]

01:03:51   about it i recommend the podcast pod for [TS]

01:03:53   ham which had its entire run [TS]

01:03:56   encapsulated inside 2016 as right where [TS]

01:04:00   we went through all 46 tracks of the [TS]

01:04:03   original cast album because we're crazy [TS]

01:04:06   yeah i was on a bunch of those i think i [TS]

01:04:07   hosted eight and was a guest on seven [TS]

01:04:10   episodes [TS]

01:04:11   yeah heavy lifting you and David both [TS]

01:04:12   did a lot of heavy lifting on that one [TS]

01:04:14   my favorite moment of podcasting was the [TS]

01:04:17   three podcast we recorded that now hear [TS]

01:04:19   this a podcast festival i was delighted [TS]

01:04:21   to be at because I got to see all my [TS]

01:04:23   podcast pal [TS]

01:04:25   I feel like we've talked about the [TS]

01:04:27   Monster Mash the Monster village draft a [TS]

01:04:29   lot we haven't talked about the game [TS]

01:04:32   show episodes that much especially [TS]

01:04:33   gameshow 49 where I got to play a game [TS]

01:04:38   of feuding families instead of hosts it [TS]

01:04:40   and that was super finally and even [TS]

01:04:43   though i don't think we want that one [TS]

01:04:45   know you should really didn't know what [TS]

01:04:49   my team did with the inconceivable we [TS]

01:04:51   played so I was fun and it was like [TS]

01:04:54   everyone else said really fun to either [TS]

01:04:57   catch up with people or meet people for [TS]

01:04:59   the first time face-to-face [TS]

01:05:01   I don't think I've seen you in person [TS]

01:05:02   for what like 20 years [TS]

01:05:04   yeah I Slyke night was crazy 93 [TS]

01:05:07   something like that something like that [TS]

01:05:09   yeah that was the first time that I had [TS]

01:05:10   met you I feel like you know I got [TS]

01:05:12   anymore and that was another one [TS]

01:05:15   the pokédex is getting larger and [TS]

01:05:16   larger 50 years good to know as people [TS]

01:05:20   keep getting promoted to panelist I i [TS]

01:05:24   was also on foot i was on the Sherlock [TS]

01:05:26   Holmes episodes and I want to [TS]

01:05:29   specifically call out the bonus track [TS]

01:05:31   from a foot number five let's bonus [TS]

01:05:33   track a five or I make what I swear is a [TS]

01:05:37   terrific argument against Batman being [TS]

01:05:39   the world's greatest detective no one [TS]

01:05:42   can hear more than half of it because my [TS]

01:05:44   connection kept cutting it out but the [TS]

01:05:48   parts where you can hear me I'm missing [TS]

01:05:49   an amazingly good case but that'd be hot [TS]

01:05:56   I at the height of that man is not the [TS]

01:05:59   world grid to call him the world's [TS]

01:06:03   greatest detective [TS]

01:06:04   oh my god that sounds like a lovely rant [TS]

01:06:05   that we can't hear weekly really [TS]

01:06:08   guarding the both data as its be taken [TS]

01:06:10   to a computer not even mad anymore [TS]

01:06:13   ok your day job growth will be silenced [TS]

01:06:20   it was quite something being there and [TS]

01:06:23   also i enjoyed the rocket surgery [TS]

01:06:25   episodes i was on particularly as we [TS]

01:06:26   mentioned kool Kat dare he is very is [TS]

01:06:30   Don vivica a fox and Erik Estrada mess [TS]

01:06:33   it up on a bone it and i really enjoyed [TS]

01:06:37   the chance to dissect the johnny [TS]

01:06:39   mnemonic a movie that should have been [TS]

01:06:41   right up my alley but made mistakes on [TS]

01:06:45   absolutely every level possibly could [TS]

01:06:48   I mean it's so close to being the matrix [TS]

01:06:51   i know on paper it should have been the [TS]

01:06:53   matrix and i enjoyed many other things [TS]

01:06:56   that i do not remember right now so that [TS]

01:06:58   is the end of my time and am at Steve [TS]

01:07:01   wasn't me [TS]

01:07:02   so as usual I've got favorite episodes [TS]

01:07:04   and favorite moment girl favorite [TS]

01:07:06   episodes yeah well you know you got it [TS]

01:07:08   we have fun Stan brand we do have fun [TS]

01:07:10   and we dip the gang and me that's right [TS]

01:07:12   so I episode wise i really really [TS]

01:07:16   enjoyed episodes 288 and 289 that would [TS]

01:07:19   be I wish it was back in Norway and it's [TS]

01:07:22   not Hamilton again that was our album [TS]

01:07:24   draft it was tremendously fun to talk [TS]

01:07:27   about music on the podcast which is [TS]

01:07:29   something we have not done often and it [TS]

01:07:31   turns out we have a fair number of music [TS]

01:07:34   geeks on the podcast and I really hope [TS]

01:07:37   we get the opportunity to do a few more [TS]

01:07:38   music-based episodes although i suspect [TS]

01:07:40   based on the minimal amount of feedback [TS]

01:07:43   we got that probably was not well loved [TS]

01:07:46   by our usual crowd but i really enjoyed [TS]

01:07:50   it and I very much enjoyed getting some [TS]

01:07:53   lists of interesting albums to try out [TS]

01:07:55   from other people on the panel most of [TS]

01:07:58   which I did not like but hey it wasn't [TS]

01:08:00   for granted [TS]

01:08:01   let's see had to pick a rocket surgery [TS]

01:08:04   like everybody else I actually wavered a [TS]

01:08:08   little bit because that we did a lot of [TS]

01:08:09   good work on rocket surgery this year [TS]

01:08:11   project we had we have gog and [TS]

01:08:14   Frankenstein island to choose from and [TS]

01:08:17   those were both pretty sweet i got a [TS]

01:08:19   second but nothing was quite as sweet as [TS]

01:08:22   getting to talk about cool cat saves the [TS]

01:08:24   kids on the Pied yes [TS]

01:08:26   i think it was on a bonus track where I [TS]

01:08:28   just started saying yeah he is [TS]

01:08:30   yep from one of our previous episodes [TS]

01:08:32   and just half-jokingly because I figured [TS]

01:08:35   no one would be dumb enough to actually [TS]

01:08:37   decide to do an episode on cool cat [TS]

01:08:40   saves the kids I turns out we would [TS]

01:08:42   think that we are always dumb enough to [TS]

01:08:44   do you learn to expect on the 360 daily [TS]

01:08:47   answer is always us who is dumb enough [TS]

01:08:49   we are dumb enough i thought i knew [TS]

01:08:51   rock-bottom was and it turns out that [TS]

01:08:53   there was a sub-basement so and that's [TS]

01:08:57   the basement was kool Kat I also really [TS]

01:08:59   liked episode 322 tastes like college [TS]

01:09:02   because of beer [TS]

01:09:04   finally something good comes out of all [TS]

01:09:07   the stupid podcasting it's free beer [TS]

01:09:11   well that's just it we finally rope [TS]

01:09:13   somebody and descending a bunch of free [TS]

01:09:15   beer [TS]

01:09:16   it was your idea all along seaview [TS]

01:09:17   you've been did was doing this for quite [TS]

01:09:19   a while and Jesse Friedman bless his [TS]

01:09:21   heart took the bait manship lessons [TS]

01:09:23   everybody beer but like the kool Kat [TS]

01:09:25   thing I didn't think anybody would be [TS]

01:09:27   dumb enough to take this up on that [TS]

01:09:30   again I'm just kidding Jesse Friedman [TS]

01:09:32   you are you are the greater love our [TS]

01:09:34   listeners I didn't love our listeners so [TS]

01:09:35   much i would say you're the best but our [TS]

01:09:37   listeners invest in your a close second [TS]

01:09:40   anyway that was a that was an awfully [TS]

01:09:42   fun episode it was and it was it was [TS]

01:09:44   amusing because we kind of pitched it as [TS]

01:09:46   an educational episode I'm going to find [TS]

01:09:51   anything really was i mean i actually [TS]

01:09:53   learned something ya know it worked i'm [TS]

01:09:55   not even i'm not really a beer drinker [TS]

01:09:57   but I found it fascinating yeah and I [TS]

01:10:00   quite like to jesse's his comment that [TS]

01:10:02   you don't want people tell him they [TS]

01:10:04   don't like beer [TS]

01:10:05   they just haven't found the beer you [TS]

01:10:07   know that there are you here yet i'm [TS]

01:10:09   like i don't know if it's worth trying [TS]

01:10:11   more and more beard of to find my beer [TS]

01:10:13   although it is this you know it is [TS]

01:10:16   didn't want you to me it sounds like a [TS]

01:10:18   waste beer but but maybe maybe at the [TS]

01:10:20   next convention got all right we're [TS]

01:10:22   gonna be helping over here next time or [TS]

01:10:24   in varied room here [TS]

01:10:25   fewer hops please yes that was great fun [TS]

01:10:27   and we got a lot of good feedback from [TS]

01:10:29   that one from from a lot of people which [TS]

01:10:31   was somewhat surprising because really [TS]

01:10:33   frankly that episode was all about us [TS]

01:10:35   and getting free beer and drinking [TS]

01:10:37   so I'm glad it turned out to be [TS]

01:10:39   something that other people could enjoy [TS]

01:10:40   as well although frankly I don't care [TS]

01:10:44   let's see what else getting off the main [TS]

01:10:47   show I this is actually a bit of a cheat [TS]

01:10:50   because it was at the very tail end of [TS]

01:10:52   last year came out the day before [TS]

01:10:54   Christmas i believe and that would be [TS]

01:10:55   the incomparable radio theatre 1 point [TS]

01:10:58   11 The Adventures of Jimmy precedent for [TS]

01:11:00   future haha there was way too much of [TS]

01:11:03   that screeching kid but otherwise onto [TS]

01:11:07   favorite modern a remote it's a new [TS]

01:11:09   thing yay [TS]

01:11:11   actually most of my favorite moments [TS]

01:11:12   come from non flagship shows because [TS]

01:11:14   that's where we get up to are really [TS]

01:11:15   stupid stuff that's right we spun off [TS]

01:11:18   all but extra stupid stuff and nonsense [TS]

01:11:20   we love the viruses because the parade's [TS]

01:11:24   you figured out my whole plan Steve you [TS]

01:11:28   figured out it is this game starting off [TS]

01:11:34   with bonus track 300 bonus tracks in a [TS]

01:11:36   weird thing this year they disappeared [TS]

01:11:38   for people who aren't members it's true [TS]

01:11:40   and I think bonus track 301 of the last [TS]

01:11:42   of them but Boyle delightful one to end [TS]

01:11:45   on and my favorite piece out of that is [TS]

01:11:47   where Scott McNulty says something along [TS]

01:11:50   the lines of every young boy at some [TS]

01:11:52   point in his life loses his transformer [TS]

01:11:54   and Jason just listen [TS]

01:11:57   he loses it more spectacularly than he [TS]

01:12:01   did during the human centipede episode [TS]

01:12:03   and that was like a padded that is [TS]

01:12:05   something you padded walls straitjacket [TS]

01:12:07   time everybody remembers the time when [TS]

01:12:11   he lost his transform my am I wrong is [TS]

01:12:22   that the dirtiest thing Scott mobility [TS]

01:12:24   has ever said on [TS]

01:12:25   that's right there is it is me anyway [TS]

01:12:27   why you know the way he said it was was [TS]

01:12:30   perfect like the timing was perfect and [TS]

01:12:33   it's one of those great those great [TS]

01:12:34   innuendos where you're not entirely sure [TS]

01:12:36   what it is he's referring to but you can [TS]

01:12:38   pick up a few things that might fit so [TS]

01:12:40   to speak so he knew what he was doing [TS]

01:12:43   when the podcast falls apart that's what [TS]

01:12:45   I'm I'm the most pleased my let's see a [TS]

01:12:49   LOL episode 3 twenty the power the power [TS]

01:12:51   the power the power to power [TS]

01:12:54   Oh disciples of the gold Oh children [TS]

01:12:56   between lines only reminds me of the [TS]

01:12:59   time back in Philadelphia this one that [TS]

01:13:03   this one comes from the great moments in [TS]

01:13:04   editing series at a time code 51 52 we [TS]

01:13:08   are discussing the spinning ammo box and [TS]

01:13:11   Sheila Frankenstein's lab and how it is [TS]

01:13:14   likely just mounted on a dowel and and I [TS]

01:13:18   say there's a guy down there just [TS]

01:13:20   Dowling the crap out of that thing maybe [TS]

01:13:22   it's a crap i say something a little [TS]

01:13:24   bluer and instead of getting bleep or [TS]

01:13:27   spoiler horn which by the way when we [TS]

01:13:29   get spoiler horn is probably my favorite [TS]

01:13:30   thing of all in the podcast every year [TS]

01:13:33   but instead of getting bleep spoiler [TS]

01:13:35   horn i get ja code theirs in the second [TS]

01:13:39   job laughing really diminishes and Frank [TS]

01:13:44   was bad come on man [TS]

01:13:45   he's down there Dowling Jack that they i [TS]

01:13:48   forgot i did that this practice my [TS]

01:13:50   favorite thing that episode I was in [TS]

01:13:52   tears after that so if there's a guy [TS]

01:13:55   down there just download the high out of [TS]

01:13:57   that area will be will go with me in [TS]

01:14:00   this it's like sometimes you're editing [TS]

01:14:01   and things just happen and you're like I [TS]

01:14:03   don't even know what I mean you hear you [TS]

01:14:05   like I'm just gonna put Jocko there [TS]

01:14:07   that'll show him things just happen no [TS]

01:14:10   is fantastic and it reminds me of a clip [TS]

01:14:13   and i know you have this already cut out [TS]

01:14:15   because I saved the thing of it of [TS]

01:14:17   getting spoiler horned on pod for him [TS]

01:14:20   with my reaction to Bambi's mother [TS]

01:14:22   oh yeah that was rubbish that is utterly [TS]

01:14:25   delightful yeah I said that to you that [TS]

01:14:27   that's game while same here and then and [TS]

01:14:31   but everything else you know old yeller [TS]

01:14:32   nothing [TS]

01:14:33   Bambi's mother [TS]

01:14:35   you're a monster you were on your I am a [TS]

01:14:39   monster [TS]

01:14:40   let's see what else I got here I low [TS]

01:14:42   definitions be gameshow 31 low [TS]

01:14:45   definition tempting my little man which [TS]

01:14:47   I think maybe the best episode we did [TS]

01:14:49   all year it is solid from end and that's [TS]

01:14:51   sad because pretty early on but it was [TS]

01:14:53   good you know at exactly 48 minutes we [TS]

01:14:56   go into words six of that episode which [TS]

01:14:58   is you calgon and there's a link to a [TS]

01:15:01   discussion about the small less tasty [TS]

01:15:03   precursor to the modern chicken taking [TS]

01:15:06   that is my correctly hysterical and it [TS]

01:15:08   makes me almost break into tears you [TS]

01:15:11   haven't heard small less tasty precursor [TS]

01:15:14   of the modern chicken differently with [TS]

01:15:19   your chicken definition to anymore a [TS]

01:15:22   judgment call in there i'm not sure [TS]

01:15:23   that's gonna eventually i used to get [TS]

01:15:25   them all so small because everyone's [TS]

01:15:28   definition definition of synthesized and [TS]

01:15:30   pass through it [TS]

01:15:31   I'm surprised there's no semicolon in [TS]

01:15:34   there with us chickens with outdated [TS]

01:15:37   views identical to modern sugar [TS]

01:15:40   yeah also Glenn wins that episode which [TS]

01:15:43   is not when with em he wasn't the amount [TS]

01:15:48   of pain and a thing this year [TS]

01:15:49   oh yes next low definition of game show [TS]

01:15:52   up to 39 the amount of panel thing i'm [TS]

01:15:54   going to call out to the amount of pan [TS]

01:15:56   and if they write in Hamilton's [TS]

01:15:59   definition Pamela challenge and a sure [TS]

01:16:01   sign that he had given up no manage the [TS]

01:16:07   amount of pan in a thing we thought he [TS]

01:16:18   had died briefly I think it's a perfect [TS]

01:16:21   reflection of how desperate we were at [TS]

01:16:23   that point I onto a total party kill I [TS]

01:16:26   got a few of things to mention here [TS]

01:16:28   anytime that k cast windwall this year [TS]

01:16:32   thus inspiring a variety of Oasis so yes [TS]

01:16:37   and pair have to say that is also one of [TS]

01:16:39   my favorites and when I was visiting my [TS]

01:16:41   sister in Chicago she specifically [TS]

01:16:43   brought that up as well so [TS]

01:16:45   doing that oh boy it's so dumb and so [TS]

01:16:48   that and that is why i love it [TS]

01:16:51   no dumb and bad right my wheelhouse I [TS]

01:16:54   also really enjoyed episode 78 and 79 of [TS]

01:16:58   total party killed me and we played a [TS]

01:17:00   lot of d India really have the hell is [TS]

01:17:02   wrong with us [TS]

01:17:03   those would be a crossbow friends ! and [TS]

01:17:07   it's never too late for pew when you're [TS]

01:17:09   in the sewer [TS]

01:17:09   those are the two episodes were square [TS]

01:17:11   Tony sindelar mix the rookie error of [TS]

01:17:14   design i start our adventure in the [TS]

01:17:16   sewer asking for trouble really create [TS]

01:17:20   generating a fair amount of mirth and [TS]

01:17:22   poop jokes coolest thing about that is [TS]

01:17:25   that like ninety percent of those poop [TS]

01:17:27   jokes don't come from me [TS]

01:17:29   it's everybody else doing the dirty work [TS]

01:17:31   and i'm just sitting back and listening [TS]

01:17:32   enjoyment but i think my favorite moment [TS]

01:17:35   of those two episodes is when Sarah [TS]

01:17:38   barber who normally normally is one of [TS]

01:17:40   the adults in the room usually come in [TS]

01:17:43   unless she's dropping f-bombs and [TS]

01:17:45   f-bombs what she does from time to time [TS]

01:17:47   just out of the blue which i also find [TS]

01:17:48   the light kick everybody else is talking [TS]

01:17:50   about various foul vehicle related puns [TS]

01:17:53   and things and she just says in this [TS]

01:17:55   sort of plaintiff sad voice there's so [TS]

01:17:59   much poop also in total party kill [TS]

01:18:04   episode 96 what's left of Peter [TS]

01:18:06   Dragonforce the one that just dropped [TS]

01:18:08   recently at 6 55 we get my annual [TS]

01:18:11   candidate for underappreciated Joe this [TS]

01:18:14   one's from Monte Ashley we're discussing [TS]

01:18:17   whether accurate is is immune to acid [TS]

01:18:20   because she vomits acid all over the [TS]

01:18:21   place and probably gets it all over [TS]

01:18:23   herself and yet doesn't suffer any [TS]

01:18:24   damage [TS]

01:18:25   Tony decides that she's not but Monty [TS]

01:18:29   then drops accurate it's literally [TS]

01:18:31   eighty percent acid in your bounty [TS]

01:18:34   hunters have some science questions so i [TS]

01:18:39   assume that you are still make a note or [TS]

01:18:40   unappreciated joke of the year which i [TS]

01:18:43   thought was brilliant [TS]

01:18:44   now somewhere around there is when we [TS]

01:18:46   did that line about how somebody should [TS]

01:18:48   start lactating work it right that was [TS]

01:18:50   pretty solid too [TS]

01:18:51   yeah that was like that was pretty solid [TS]

01:18:54   because we needed milk which is basic to [TS]

01:18:56   suit the acid that's right good stuff [TS]

01:19:01   anyway that was my underappreciated joke [TS]

01:19:03   of the year good job Monty well done [TS]

01:19:05   thanks man huh [TS]

01:19:06   I didn't think I got enough laughs at [TS]

01:19:07   the time so I didn't try to uncover it I [TS]

01:19:10   tried to uncover it a little bit in the [TS]

01:19:11   Edit so everybody could appreciate it [TS]

01:19:12   but yes well I appreciate it because i [TS]

01:19:15   had written down in some sort of a [TS]

01:19:17   drunken scroll on my character sheet [TS]

01:19:19   underappreciated joke of the year [TS]

01:19:22   acrid acid eighty percent and I had no [TS]

01:19:25   idea which episode that would turn up in [TS]

01:19:27   and driving home tonight i just happened [TS]

01:19:30   to throw episode 96 on and there was at [TS]

01:19:33   655 and I got very excited it was a it [TS]

01:19:36   was negatively episode but there was an [TS]

01:19:41   episode to anyone i love a lot of awful [TS]

01:19:42   people that's last year's clips [TS]

01:19:44   yea Monty again look at that in [TS]

01:19:46   reference to the previous year's summer [TS]

01:19:48   superhero spectacular uses the phrase [TS]

01:19:50   I'm still a little bitter that I could [TS]

01:19:52   not get the thing all the way to the [TS]

01:19:54   finals but i think i did a good job [TS]

01:19:55   5,000 Steve said oh right now it's [TS]

01:20:02   clobberin oh nevermind just gonna say [TS]

01:20:05   simultaneous it is perfect and left her [TS]

01:20:14   heart about that Lewbert when Oh while [TS]

01:20:17   we're on the subject of last year's clip [TS]

01:20:18   show episode i should mention that in [TS]

01:20:20   the interest of averting disaster i am [TS]

01:20:22   not selecting the somewhat abbreviated [TS]

01:20:25   clip loop that we played in that episode [TS]

01:20:27   clip loop accidentally yeah yeah well [TS]

01:20:31   that wouldn't get it just kind of [TS]

01:20:32   happened at the end there but i am not [TS]

01:20:33   going to pick that you hear me people [TS]

01:20:35   the infinite clip loop is over it is [TS]

01:20:38   finished kaput finito it is long past [TS]

01:20:42   its best by date and for the safety of [TS]

01:20:45   all mankind [TS]

01:20:45   I am taking it out of the back of the [TS]

01:20:47   fridge and putting it out with the [TS]

01:20:49   recycling the clip is done thank [TS]

01:20:52   goodness yeah it's all over [TS]

01:20:54   Wow [TS]

01:20:56   feel good getting that out of the way I [TS]

01:20:58   and one last clip episode 3 25 the [TS]

01:21:02   monster mash that's our live episode I'm [TS]

01:21:05   going to pick the clip of me picking [TS]

01:21:07   Skeletor dry huh well Jason I suppose [TS]

01:21:15   this is inevitable so we might as well [TS]

01:21:17   get it out of the way to take Skeletor [TS]

01:21:21   masters and you do not encourage this [TS]

01:21:27   this podcast is over the amazing thing [TS]

01:21:31   about Skeletor is he managed to be a [TS]

01:21:33   memorable villain in what is basically a [TS]

01:21:35   toy commercial and not just a toy [TS]

01:21:36   commercial but a toy commercial whose [TS]

01:21:38   hero is just a muscly dude in a [TS]

01:21:40   loincloth with a pageboy haircut pretty [TS]

01:21:43   good today that does it for me [TS]

01:21:47   alright let's get Steve turning over a [TS]

01:21:50   new leaf there [TS]

01:21:51   yeah exactly right I've got a list of [TS]

01:21:54   some some episodes that I like the most [TS]

01:21:56   of which have already been this is what [TS]

01:21:57   happens when you're the host you go last [TS]

01:21:59   is and it's fine it's fine i'm pulling [TS]

01:22:01   out a draft that's not round draft [TS]

01:22:03   totally not draft pick them all again in [TS]

01:22:05   it reinforce our our pics 3 29 the star [TS]

01:22:09   wars travesty do this travesty draft [TS]

01:22:10   that was an idea [TS]

01:22:12   it started with Todd's eerie from [TS]

01:22:15   industrial light and magic suggesting [TS]

01:22:17   that an incomparable episode about all [TS]

01:22:20   the changes that we didn't like in the [TS]

01:22:21   Star Wars special editions might be a [TS]

01:22:23   good episode and it spiraled out of [TS]

01:22:25   control into being I think what is a [TS]

01:22:27   very good fun episode was very happy [TS]

01:22:30   with how that turned out with us picking [TS]

01:22:32   it was like each round was a different [TS]

01:22:35   selection and so is a different kind of [TS]

01:22:37   game then then kind of going over the [TS]

01:22:39   same ground every you know over and over [TS]

01:22:41   again and that was a lot of fun a lot of [TS]

01:22:43   good stuff [TS]

01:22:44   it's fun to get a bunch of nerds who [TS]

01:22:47   really care about something to ven [TS]

01:22:48   nitpick like forcibly knit Pickett and [TS]

01:22:51   that's that that episode did that very [TS]

01:22:53   well [TS]

01:22:54   the monster supervillain draft we talked [TS]

01:22:56   about here that turned out way better [TS]

01:22:58   than I had ever hoped it was a dumb idea [TS]

01:22:59   but i wanted to do a big dumb idea for [TS]

01:23:02   our live show because really if you're [TS]

01:23:03   going to expose your podcast to a bunch [TS]

01:23:05   of potentially new listeners who have [TS]

01:23:07   never heard of it as well as your peers [TS]

01:23:09   in the podcasting mute [TS]

01:23:10   community the most important thing is to [TS]

01:23:12   be representative of just how stupid [TS]

01:23:15   your episodes are and I think we [TS]

01:23:16   delivered [TS]

01:23:18   I'm so pleased that we grew a my a [TS]

01:23:22   moderate crowd did I guess you could say [TS]

01:23:25   it was small but it was dedicated they [TS]

01:23:27   outnumbered us which wasn't easy there [TS]

01:23:29   yeah we were a lot of us and I think [TS]

01:23:30   Matt young was in the back from magic [TS]

01:23:32   cameras in the back the host of the [TS]

01:23:34   whole time yeah which was great i mean [TS]

01:23:36   he obviously doesn't have a lot going on [TS]

01:23:37   and he could have he could have been in [TS]

01:23:41   a lot of other podcasts that you do not [TS]

01:23:44   know the beer episode was lovely [TS]

01:23:46   yeah engine we mentioned it earlier and [TS]

01:23:49   I wanted to just say that again that as [TS]

01:23:51   somebody who makes podcasts that was i [TS]

01:23:54   spent like a week thinking how am I [TS]

01:23:56   gonna do this by keeping like I have all [TS]

01:23:58   the equipment to make this work I i [TS]

01:24:00   don't know if it actually will work in [TS]

01:24:02   practice and if it doesn't work I'm [TS]

01:24:05   already going to have been drinking at [TS]

01:24:07   the time that it fails and that seems [TS]

01:24:09   like if you won't care it will be a [TS]

01:24:10   disaster in the making and that that was [TS]

01:24:12   like leopard I thought might I would [TS]

01:24:14   feel really bad if it completely failed [TS]

01:24:16   after Jesse did all that work to send [TS]

01:24:18   this beer and it turned out that is [TS]

01:24:20   ridiculously technically complicated as [TS]

01:24:23   it was because we had five people around [TS]

01:24:25   a table in my garage and another for [TS]

01:24:28   people on skype it [TS]

01:24:29   it totally worked and it sounded good [TS]

01:24:31   and everybody drank beer and if you [TS]

01:24:34   notice if you go back and listen to it [TS]

01:24:35   toward the end [TS]

01:24:37   what's happening in our house at the end [TS]

01:24:40   when we're talking is jesse keeps [TS]

01:24:42   opening more beer and giving it to us [TS]

01:24:44   and it's it be that guy is dangerous [TS]

01:24:47   that guy is dangerous and you just kept [TS]

01:24:50   opening beer i liked the bit where where [TS]

01:24:53   Moses is given the opportunity to say [TS]

01:24:55   his thank yous and goodbyes and instead [TS]

01:24:57   you just hear another can open it was [TS]

01:25:02   like that it was like that but that was [TS]

01:25:05   over there was a fun thing to do and [TS]

01:25:07   and it did and it worked out that's the [TS]

01:25:09   best thing about it was kind of [TS]

01:25:09   ambitious and weird and in the end it [TS]

01:25:12   was also a good episode it wasn't just [TS]

01:25:13   that we've got to drink beer we got a [TS]

01:25:15   good episode out of it and anybody else [TS]

01:25:16   who wants to send us beer let me remind [TS]

01:25:18   you you can do it it's been done it work [TS]

01:25:20   yeah uh number 320 so-so Frankenstein [TS]

01:25:24   island the story is as I mentioned on [TS]

01:25:26   that episode we watched power we watched [TS]

01:25:28   the power we watch this movie out in [TS]

01:25:30   high school [TS]

01:25:31   this is a movie that i have been [TS]

01:25:33   watching since high school back in [TS]

01:25:36   sonora california and so to watch it [TS]

01:25:40   with you and to have this sort of like [TS]

01:25:42   all the jokes that we made in the late [TS]

01:25:44   in the mid to late eighties made again [TS]

01:25:48   in 2016 was weird and great and the best [TS]

01:25:53   thing about it now is that not only the [TS]

01:25:56   people who watched the movie for this [TS]

01:25:58   podcast but the listeners who have [TS]

01:26:00   uncovered Frankenstein island now [TS]

01:26:02   understand and will reflect back to me [TS]

01:26:05   these references that were my own like [TS]

01:26:07   little private set of references since [TS]

01:26:10   the mid eighties and now it's just sort [TS]

01:26:12   of out there and the best thing of all [TS]

01:26:14   is that every now and then I get a [TS]

01:26:16   message from tony sindelar saying you [TS]

01:26:18   know I was thinking about Frankenstein [TS]

01:26:20   island again says I think about it [TS]

01:26:25   almost every day had the dream again [TS]

01:26:26   it's great episode 3 of something cool [TS]

01:26:29   cat episode also has come up that was i [TS]

01:26:32   I don't I mean that episode that movie [TS]

01:26:36   does not deserve 20 minutes of analysis [TS]

01:26:38   and we gave it almost two hours of [TS]

01:26:40   analysis it doesn't hurt more than that [TS]

01:26:42   way and I i would like to say that that [TS]

01:26:48   and I think listener who whose letter [TS]

01:26:50   for whatever reason didn't get in here [TS]

01:26:51   but one of the the listener of favorite [TS]

01:26:55   moments that I think we should probably [TS]

01:26:57   play is of course the dramatic rendition [TS]

01:27:01   of the lyrics to one of the cool cat [TS]

01:27:03   original songs as read aloud by mr. [TS]

01:27:06   Philip Michaels i actually took a ah [TS]

01:27:10   screencap of the song and I'd like to do [TS]

01:27:12   a dramatic again of it now this is cool [TS]

01:27:15   cat song quote marks cool cat loves to [TS]

01:27:18   run him does he ever cool cat loves to [TS]

01:27:21   rock [TS]

01:27:22   yeah cool cast loves to rock [TS]

01:27:26   cool cat loves to play the guitar and he [TS]

01:27:31   looks so cool cool cat was to play the [TS]

01:27:35   drums yeah and he placed them so good [TS]

01:27:40   cool cat loves to rock yeah cool cats [TS]

01:27:45   loves to rock [TS]

01:27:48   cool cat loves to play the guitar and he [TS]

01:27:51   looks so cool cool cat loves to play the [TS]

01:27:56   drums yeah and he plays them so good [TS]

01:28:02   Jax is the coolest cat in the world [TS]

01:28:07   he's so cool yes he is here [TS]

01:28:14   wow this time I mean you really Derek [TS]

01:28:16   Derek savages artwork needs to be [TS]

01:28:20   rendered in that way so that was a that [TS]

01:28:22   was a great moment if anything needs [TS]

01:28:24   analysis i think it might be Derek it i [TS]

01:28:29   mean if if anyone can consistently throw [TS]

01:28:32   me out of my chair of the way the way [TS]

01:28:34   you get thrown out of your chair [TS]

01:28:35   sometimes it's Phil yeah he's alright he [TS]

01:28:37   wrote down the lyrics i mean really [TS]

01:28:39   that's that's the thing just write down [TS]

01:28:41   the lyrics he had to pause the screen on [TS]

01:28:44   that very small text word document that [TS]

01:28:47   oh yes averages looking at which he [TS]

01:28:50   couldn't even cheat and use the actual [TS]

01:28:51   lyrics from the subsequent song because [TS]

01:28:53   they were completely different [TS]

01:28:56   it was listening Nathan who wrote in and [TS]

01:28:58   i have found his letter now and that was [TS]

01:28:59   listening and that was his his favorite [TS]

01:29:02   moment [TS]

01:29:03   Phil's dramatic reading here another his [TS]

01:29:06   other favorite moment was the bit where [TS]

01:29:08   Phil tells the story about how he and [TS]

01:29:10   Lisa watch the actual hollywood [TS]

01:29:12   christmas parade that kool Kat was in at [TS]

01:29:14   which we all react dramatically the [TS]

01:29:17   hollywood / a Hollywood parade [TS]

01:29:21   he also says the Skeletor loop clip must [TS]

01:29:25   always live on in some form haha [TS]

01:29:30   interesting yeah that's not happening [TS]

01:29:32   man [TS]

01:29:33   alright 52 game show episodes i want to [TS]

01:29:37   mention one is as mentioned before [TS]

01:29:40   tempted by the little man i do think [TS]

01:29:42   that was the best episode and and that [TS]

01:29:45   was tough because i think the game show [TS]

01:29:46   in general i said this last year and I [TS]

01:29:48   think it's still true i think is just [TS]

01:29:50   pure as pure entertainment goes it's my [TS]

01:29:53   favorite thing that we do and and I hope [TS]

01:29:57   more people discover it because it is it [TS]

01:29:59   is soap so fun to do [TS]

01:30:01   it's also fun to listen to and uh my [TS]

01:30:04   other game show episodes i wanted to [TS]

01:30:06   pick which hasn't been mentioned it so [TS]

01:30:08   i'm going to mention it here give it a [TS]

01:30:10   game show episode 30 3 exits are unknown [TS]

01:30:13   in which we played jungle adventure [TS]

01:30:15   oh wow you enjoyed i enjoy a sick bag [TS]

01:30:20   did not enjoy playing it at all it was a [TS]

01:30:23   disaster like Zippo light zippo but i'm [TS]

01:30:27   still frustrated it works it was super [TS]

01:30:29   frustrating and that's one where i [TS]

01:30:33   actually did edit out a big chunk of our [TS]

01:30:35   movement because we just kept moving [TS]

01:30:37   around in the four in the gentleman [TS]

01:30:39   right movement I thought you said the [TS]

01:30:41   word movement I said where's the poop [TS]

01:30:43   jokes yeah thats everywhere that's how [TS]

01:30:48   it works but that in the end it didn't [TS]

01:30:52   go through it I and were traumatized by [TS]

01:30:55   it you find you would find it amusing it [TS]

01:30:57   was uh it was funny and what Tony took [TS]

01:31:00   out of it is next time next time fewer [TS]

01:31:03   players and certain players probably [TS]

01:31:06   should come back but that's okay it was [TS]

01:31:10   it was a beautiful disaster and edited [TS]

01:31:12   into something a little bit more [TS]

01:31:14   there's a 13-minute long bonus track of [TS]

01:31:16   us wandering lost him up in the jungle [TS]

01:31:18   that i don't recommend anyone listen to [TS]

01:31:20   bonus is being used pretty generously [TS]

01:31:23   only 30 and it's it's 13 minutes of [TS]

01:31:26   these dinosaurs on the bone and [TS]

01:31:29   administering that I'm holding up the [TS]

01:31:31   map that I drew waving it at the [TS]

01:31:33   microphone yeah so that's our i think [TS]

01:31:37   that's it i think we have wrapped up [TS]

01:31:39   2016 and it's time to turn to 2017 i [TS]

01:31:42   look forward next year eric i look [TS]

01:31:44   forward to hearing what great stuff we [TS]

01:32:16   the fact that you like to listen to as [TS]

01:32:18   previously mentioned the incredibly [TS]

01:32:20   stupid things that we do and say we [TS]

01:32:23   appreciate you for doing that and it's [TS]

01:32:27   great that there are people who actually [TS]

01:32:28   want to listen to this [TS]
