00:00:17   be talking about the just-concluded [TS]

00:00:19   first half of the latest season of [TS]

00:00:22   doctor who which is no spit it split in [TS]

00:00:25   half with part ever gonna fall which [TS]

00:00:28   just finished another part airing in the [TS]

00:00:30   spring after the Christmas special bc [TS]

00:00:33   Doctor Who joining me to discuss this [TS]

00:00:37   interesting 5 episode mini season are [TS]

00:00:42   Glenn fleischmann hi Colin [TS]

00:00:44   hello there hello I also hear Dan Morgan [TS]

00:00:48   hi [TS]

00:00:49   hey what's up a wow yeah [TS]

00:00:53   hey well I was good we'll get some cig I [TS]

00:00:54   did more in our garbage truck driver [TS]

00:00:57   also joining us is the ever pleasant [TS]

00:01:03   Scott McNulty hi Scott [TS]

00:01:05   hello it's nice that you also watch [TS]

00:01:07   television and don't just read books [TS]

00:01:09   sometimes i do both at the same time [TS]

00:01:11   that's crazy that's crazy [TS]

00:01:13   it's madness and of course he would not [TS]

00:01:18   dare to be missed on this episode it's [TS]

00:01:21   john siracusa hi John [TS]

00:01:23   we're doing Dalek impressions on this [TS]

00:01:24   one or not I just want to know how [TS]

00:01:26   excited I should be we can we should do [TS]

00:01:29   Rory impressions [TS]

00:01:30   I'm doing my weeping angel impression [TS]

00:01:33   right now okay less excited by the [TS]

00:01:35   moment and and to be fair he starts at a [TS]

00:01:39   pretty low level seven [TS]

00:01:41   yeah funny about that i'm only excited [TS]

00:01:44   when you're not looking at me huh [TS]

00:01:46   john is a Weeping Angel of joy that's [TS]

00:01:49   good I like that [TS]

00:01:51   um so we did a flash podcast about the [TS]

00:01:55   first episode of this 5 episode set [TS]

00:01:57   which was the asylum of the daleks so [TS]

00:02:02   you can look that one up [TS]

00:02:04   we we did that and and spend a about now [TS]

00:02:07   we're talking about it so I thought we [TS]

00:02:09   would go through the other episodes [TS]

00:02:12   unless there's somebody out there who's [TS]

00:02:13   got a UH another axe to grind about [TS]

00:02:15   asylum of the daleks I thought we move [TS]

00:02:17   on and talk about the other four [TS]

00:02:18   episodes i hearing no grinding i will [TS]

00:02:23   move on so the [TS]

00:02:24   second episode and in the this mini [TS]

00:02:26   season was the literally titled [TS]

00:02:29   dinosaurs on a spaceship [TS]

00:02:34   I if you don't remember which episode [TS]

00:02:36   this was it's the one with the dinosaurs [TS]

00:02:38   on a spaceship had to recap after that [TS]

00:02:40   we had they're all all these uh forward [TS]

00:02:43   titles there was a town called mercy [TS]

00:02:45   which is the Western there was the power [TS]

00:02:48   of three which is the story about the [TS]

00:02:50   invasion of boxes and then we had the [TS]

00:02:54   angels take manhattan which aired like [TS]

00:02:59   most recently underwent the muppets did [TS]

00:03:00   it didn't we talk about haha i want to [TS]

00:03:05   start with dinosaurs on a spaceship I I [TS]

00:03:06   am I i thought this was a clunker I I [TS]

00:03:09   didn't like this one but there were [TS]

00:03:11   dinosaurs and they're on a spaceship [TS]

00:03:13   Nefertiti was there for no particular [TS]

00:03:16   reason for no reason and that and some [TS]

00:03:18   some dude who was like a an adventure [TS]

00:03:21   dude it was it was a Lestrade yeah way [TS]

00:03:24   that it was inspector Lister that was on [TS]

00:03:27   a spaceship with Dinosaurs i was to say [TS]

00:03:29   they're the the only thing that I really [TS]

00:03:31   thought was the most redeeming thing [TS]

00:03:33   about this episode was I really love for [TS]

00:03:35   his dad [TS]

00:03:36   oh yeah you think that's awesome I just [TS]

00:03:38   what a great what a great piece of [TS]

00:03:40   casting and what a great i mean he may [TS]

00:03:42   be my favorite thing about this entire [TS]

00:03:44   little mini season i have to say i just [TS]

00:03:46   i really enjoyed him I i entered into [TS]

00:03:49   like roses moms with background context [TS]

00:03:51   you reminded me of wolf actually which [TS]

00:03:53   was another one of my favorite [TS]

00:03:55   characters lead [TS]

00:03:56   yeah no it was um that yeah he was that [TS]

00:03:59   he was really the only redeeming thing [TS]

00:04:01   in this episode I thought I thought it [TS]

00:04:02   was a I in fact in some ways the worst [TS]

00:04:05   of the Russell T Davis era [TS]

00:04:09   let's take a high concept that we know [TS]

00:04:11   is sure to be sure to please the kids [TS]

00:04:14   and and honestly dinosaurs wander ships [TS]

00:04:19   yeah and honestly dinosaurs on a [TS]

00:04:20   spaceship might have worked as that core [TS]

00:04:24   story but it isn't just that right it's [TS]

00:04:26   about 15 other things poured in here [TS]

00:04:29   with this at some point in the future on [TS]

00:04:32   earth and the Indian subcontinent is now [TS]

00:04:36   in charge of [TS]

00:04:37   of Earth space defenses they're just in [TS]

00:04:40   charge of space which is a nice touch [TS]

00:04:41   and apparently they make nuclear weapons [TS]

00:04:42   that once locked on [TS]

00:04:44   there's nothing you can ever do again [TS]

00:04:46   because you always want as with the [TS]

00:04:47   assignment the Daleks you always want to [TS]

00:04:49   make sure that once you've triggered [TS]

00:04:50   something [TS]

00:04:51   there's never an eye on any [TS]

00:04:52   circumstances we turn off because you [TS]

00:04:53   never want to do that as we know [TS]

00:04:55   surely even if you want to do it later [TS]

00:04:56   you still don't understand call me [TS]

00:04:58   Shirley and there's Nefertiti and [TS]

00:05:00   there's and there's the adventure guy [TS]

00:05:02   and why are they there and then they get [TS]

00:05:04   Rory and Amy and Rory's dad which is [TS]

00:05:06   funny [TS]

00:05:07   now we're not mentioning is nothing [TS]

00:05:09   obvious we're missing here too which is [TS]

00:05:10   we have to harry potter actors in the [TS]

00:05:12   same episode which I was kind of looking [TS]

00:05:13   forward to and they never gonna be the [TS]

00:05:15   same scene together just about very [TS]

00:05:18   little because i love i think to the [TS]

00:05:21   best characters in the harry potter [TS]

00:05:22   franchise are in fact the visitor easily [TS]

00:05:25   mr. Weasley and the on argus filch i [TS]

00:05:28   think is a great character in the book [TS]

00:05:29   he's a great actress the fellow who play [TS]

00:05:31   that was it a Solomon in the episode [TS]

00:05:34   his name is david john bradley i have [TS]

00:05:35   looked up he reminded me of I anybody [TS]

00:05:40   remember that episode the most the most [TS]

00:05:41   toys that episode of The Star Trek The [TS]

00:05:43   Next Generation here this yeah well as a [TS]

00:05:46   daisy his page oh yes where data is [TS]

00:05:48   collected Solomon in this actually [TS]

00:05:50   reminded me of that character is a he's [TS]

00:05:52   a guy with a spaceship and he's really [TS]

00:05:54   just a thief and he's he has no [TS]

00:05:56   redeeming qualities and what's [TS]

00:05:58   interesting about this episode is that [TS]

00:05:59   in the end the doctor basically just [TS]

00:06:02   kills him which that when he's [TS]

00:06:04   completely defenseless and he's an awful [TS]

00:06:06   guy who's killed lots of people and [TS]

00:06:08   maybe even made the Silurians extinct [TS]

00:06:11   but a kind of a kind of extreme and [TS]

00:06:14   makes you wish for the days of you know [TS]

00:06:16   the doctor who was just so clever that [TS]

00:06:17   they could come up with the perfect the [TS]

00:06:19   perfect punishment that was worse than [TS]

00:06:22   death right in something or like to [TS]

00:06:24   something really appropriate that but [TS]

00:06:26   like that's something that's clever as [TS]

00:06:27   opposed to it was very crude we're [TS]

00:06:29   getting out of here in your debt as [TS]

00:06:30   opposed to the you know look he tries to [TS]

00:06:32   save dive Ross right over and over again [TS]

00:06:34   and you're like the average submitted [TS]

00:06:36   the dollar Alex that what they call the [TS]

00:06:38   inside the Daleks and that's despite [TS]

00:06:40   habitat yeah I and he won't save this [TS]

00:06:43   guy is just a voracious sort of pain in [TS]

00:06:45   the ass and killed that killed thousands [TS]

00:06:47   of civilians [TS]

00:06:48   Davros is responsible for you know [TS]

00:06:49   billions of deaths and whatever you're [TS]

00:06:52   like the threshold has changed when the [TS]

00:06:54   doctor just says all right we're gonna [TS]

00:06:56   touch this thing and we're gone and your [TS]

00:06:57   stock always expect the doctor to appeal [TS]

00:07:00   to the better angels of our nature and [TS]

00:07:03   in this he does for shoveling and and [TS]

00:07:05   honestly this is yes I this is actually [TS]

00:07:08   another russell t davies thing I wanted [TS]

00:07:09   to bring up where I feel like this this [TS]

00:07:11   whole mini season felt like the david [TS]

00:07:13   tennant specials era to me where these [TS]

00:07:16   standalone stories there's no real [TS]

00:07:18   ongoing plot its leading what's the only [TS]

00:07:22   ongoing plot is that you know it's [TS]

00:07:23   leading to a conclusion where actors [TS]

00:07:25   leave the show but otherwise not up if [TS]

00:07:28   there's not a real plot reason for it [TS]

00:07:30   which is unfortunate is very contrived [TS]

00:07:33   yeah otherwise we-we're just advancing [TS]

00:07:34   toward an ending and then in in the one [TS]

00:07:37   thing that was kind of interesting about [TS]

00:07:39   the the that era with the with david [TS]

00:07:42   tennant was that there was this whole [TS]

00:07:44   talk about how he was losing his [TS]

00:07:46   connection to humanity by not traveling [TS]

00:07:48   with a regular companion and so that [TS]

00:07:51   keeps coming up here except of course he [TS]

00:07:53   keeps traveling with amy and rory so it [TS]

00:07:55   kind of doesn't make any sense and yet [TS]

00:07:56   you have this whole it really which [TS]

00:07:59   seemed to insert it was like you must [TS]

00:08:00   always travel with someone or you're [TS]

00:08:02   gonna you're kind of losing it but I [TS]

00:08:04   never felt like it was real I felt that [TS]

00:08:05   it was just contrived it was not as well [TS]

00:08:08   executed as the david tennant era where [TS]

00:08:10   to me that it that contains that arc [TS]

00:08:13   contains one of the most just chillin [TS]

00:08:15   and depressing scenes in Doctor Who but [TS]

00:08:18   well executed which is the scene where [TS]

00:08:20   he rescues at alliant from Mars [TS]

00:08:22   oh yes back and she kills herself right [TS]

00:08:25   because he screwed over the timeline and [TS]

00:08:27   that that was effective that worked [TS]

00:08:30   it was really really wrenching to watch [TS]

00:08:32   that and especially that scene where he [TS]

00:08:34   realizes basically what he's done and [TS]

00:08:37   you don't get that emotional gravitas [TS]

00:08:39   here I wanted it I wanted to see it you [TS]

00:08:42   don't get it if you have a doctor just [TS]

00:08:44   have some missiles blow a guy up because [TS]

00:08:46   he doesn't like them [TS]

00:08:47   um it reduces it to the to the cartoon [TS]

00:08:51   hero yeah it used to do the thing where [TS]

00:08:53   like you said earlier find the [TS]

00:08:54   punishment it's worse than death what he [TS]

00:08:56   actually used to do is like the [TS]

00:08:57   equivalent of like the Time Lord shabbat [TS]

00:08:59   device where it's like well I can't kill [TS]

00:09:00   you [TS]

00:09:00   but by failing to act in this manner i [TS]

00:09:03   will and i will cause this lever to fall [TS]

00:09:06   over which will cause the oven to turn [TS]

00:09:07   on you know what I mean like he used to [TS]

00:09:09   do that which I thought was a cheat so [TS]

00:09:10   I'm glad to see him kill somebody but [TS]

00:09:12   like the man said that I know what they [TS]

00:09:14   were going for but they didn't get it [TS]

00:09:15   because he'd always traveling alone [TS]

00:09:17   off-camera and we didn't see that using [TS]

00:09:19   the companions are in part is shabbos [TS]

00:09:21   Coy's it [TS]

00:09:23   yeah well no they don't do the work for [TS]

00:09:25   me time to do those sometimes yeah [TS]

00:09:27   sometimes it's just it's just physics [TS]

00:09:29   that does the work for that's pretty [TS]

00:09:31   funny [TS]

00:09:31   I can't kill you but all these people [TS]

00:09:33   and travel with my or perhaps the random [TS]

00:09:35   circumstances of nature will be a shame [TS]

00:09:37   if something happened anyway I thought [TS]

00:09:39   this was i had enough if somebody who [TS]

00:09:41   wants to speak up for it but I i just i [TS]

00:09:43   do I this one will speak for the [TS]

00:09:46   dinosaur who will I mean no one they're [TS]

00:09:49   all dead [TS]

00:09:49   I like the print the fundamental premise [TS]

00:09:51   of lies a ship why is there a ship with [TS]

00:09:53   dinosaurs and there's like if there were [TS]

00:09:55   Silurians maybe they would take the the [TS]

00:09:57   extinct soon to be extinct races away [TS]

00:09:59   and and try to take them somewhere else [TS]

00:10:01   so that was kind of fun and interesting [TS]

00:10:03   and yet completely squandered on all of [TS]

00:10:06   this other junk [TS]

00:10:07   well I'm sort of PE i'm sort of ppl tell [TS]

00:10:09   you this is a metal thing without [TS]

00:10:10   talking another episode yet is I'm sort [TS]

00:10:12   of peeved about how many great concepts [TS]

00:10:14   that were this season that just were [TS]

00:10:16   pissed away basically and this is one of [TS]

00:10:17   them you're like okay we have the slurry [TS]

00:10:19   and set we have the doctor saying I've [TS]

00:10:21   never had a gang before going to try [TS]

00:10:23   again you're like okay you know you're [TS]

00:10:24   right there's rarely a time except that [TS]

00:10:26   season enters got a bunch of people it's [TS]

00:10:28   a silly premise you know it they [TS]

00:10:29   actually sort of sold it because we've [TS]

00:10:31   seen the Silurians multiple times we [TS]

00:10:32   know they come back they know [TS]

00:10:34   resuscitate on earth at some point from [TS]

00:10:36   last season of the season before really [TS]

00:10:38   where we know they live will cohabitate [TS]

00:10:40   with humans and blah blah we know all [TS]

00:10:42   this [TS]

00:10:43   the Silurians recurring element of the [TS]

00:10:44   universe and he's like oh well we found [TS]

00:10:47   a bad cube this is also one of the first [TS]

00:10:49   Doctor Who's I remember where they can [TS]

00:10:50   talk to a computer it does things they [TS]

00:10:53   want it to [TS]

00:10:54   it seemed very Star Trek I'm not what we [TS]

00:10:56   call any episode in which they have to [TS]

00:10:57   do some weird hand waving like computer [TS]

00:10:59   where are things here they are [TS]

00:11:01   what happened there are a couple of [TS]

00:11:03   using i did i was amused by the Amy like [TS]

00:11:06   wasn't in that scene where she likes [TS]

00:11:07   starts typing on the computer like well [TS]

00:11:09   everything the doctor to start pressing [TS]

00:11:11   buttons until it happen [TS]

00:11:12   I mean there there were there are a [TS]

00:11:14   couple of reading lines here in there [TS]

00:11:15   and stuff like that [TS]

00:11:16   yeah amy was used effectively because [TS]

00:11:18   this is the episode where he was like I [TS]

00:11:20   know how to do this now and that was [TS]

00:11:21   that was again if there's a story arc [TS]

00:11:23   here it's the fact that amy has now been [TS]

00:11:25   travelling with the doctor so long that [TS]

00:11:27   she can do his job which is very much [TS]

00:11:29   like sort of how Rose ended up at the [TS]

00:11:30   end before she left and and that's kind [TS]

00:11:33   of a rite of passage almost like once [TS]

00:11:35   once you're no longer really the [TS]

00:11:37   companion you're actually being the [TS]

00:11:38   doctor it's time for you to go because [TS]

00:11:41   there's you know that that's the end you [TS]

00:11:43   you've progressed all the way and and [TS]

00:11:46   that was good because she's very capable [TS]

00:11:47   she she's able to do you know to do [TS]

00:11:50   everything and tap into the computer and [TS]

00:11:52   do every everything she needs to do i [TS]

00:11:54   should also say that mitchell and webb [TS]

00:11:55   the great comedy team is harder wandered [TS]

00:11:58   here in this ridiculous like robots who [TS]

00:12:01   are like robot children robot babysitter [TS]

00:12:03   children things it was it's really [TS]

00:12:06   disappointing second the Doctor Who [TS]

00:12:08   universe needs to invest in better [TS]

00:12:10   robotic design because every robot we [TS]

00:12:14   meet is just completely worthless [TS]

00:12:16   yeah I guess that's the the overall [TS]

00:12:19   overarching message of Doctor Who which [TS]

00:12:21   is robots are our rubbish they also i [TS]

00:12:23   think they lost the opportunity to do [TS]

00:12:24   some dress park stuff they have the [TS]

00:12:26   Raptors comments like let's get some [TS]

00:12:28   guns and shoot at them and will be 500 [TS]

00:12:31   for no reason we're standing here [TS]

00:12:33   fending off like eight of them or [TS]

00:12:34   whatever it was just like whatever yeah [TS]

00:12:36   no it'sit's um I I think Moffat a flaw [TS]

00:12:41   and you know you're gonna have a flaw I [TS]

00:12:43   guess having a flower you where you try [TS]

00:12:45   to stuff way too many ideas in an [TS]

00:12:47   episode I guess is not the worst flaw [TS]

00:12:49   you could have but I feel that again and [TS]

00:12:51   again that he takes these you know it [TS]

00:12:53   it's almost like he's just got to his to [TS]

00:12:56   again to his credit he's got like a [TS]

00:12:57   giant that of ideas and and there's a [TS]

00:13:01   tube that runs out of the VAT and he's [TS]

00:13:03   got a spray gun and he just sprays the [TS]

00:13:05   ideas and this episode was written by [TS]

00:13:07   Martha but it has that same feel of like [TS]

00:13:09   I i will likely written I feel like his [TS]

00:13:11   style I feel like his style encourages [TS]

00:13:13   this spray guns just batter of ideas and [TS]

00:13:15   and and David dinosaurs on a spaceship [TS]

00:13:17   again full of ideas [TS]

00:13:19   none of them really hanging together and [TS]

00:13:21   none of them fully realized that the one [TS]

00:13:22   thing i did like was the Compendium that [TS]

00:13:24   Solomon had [TS]

00:13:25   which was the value of everything in [TS]

00:13:27   time and space that sort of useful like [TS]

00:13:29   a you know a comic-book god it's like oh [TS]

00:13:31   I found another 40 well she's with the [TS]

00:13:33   firm at our take her own then and that [TS]

00:13:35   was of course just a an excuse to have [TS]

00:13:37   it scanned the doctor and he's not in it [TS]

00:13:38   and it all he's deleted himself from all [TS]

00:13:40   the databases shocking [TS]

00:13:42   alright well there it is so we move on [TS]

00:13:47   these yes [TS]

00:13:49   yeah okay so let's talk about the [TS]

00:13:50   Western I kind of like parts of it maybe [TS]

00:13:53   that's cuz I'm a sucker for westerns I'm [TS]

00:13:55   again the plot stuff is kind of I mean [TS]

00:13:58   this is going to be a recurring theme [TS]

00:14:00   where sometimes that the redeeming [TS]

00:14:02   things in it or not the plot [TS]

00:14:03   yeah that has been the to the case for [TS]

00:14:05   the entire season is no theme of Doctor [TS]

00:14:07   Who the show could be yeah but they've [TS]

00:14:10   gotten away with it better before you [TS]

00:14:11   keep to you keep telling me that every [TS]

00:14:13   time I complain about the plot like well [TS]

00:14:15   doctor who isn't really about your blog [TS]

00:14:16   and also because those times you can get [TS]

00:14:18   away with that there's time where it's [TS]

00:14:19   an awkwardly detrimental in here i think [TS]

00:14:21   for my my part my problem here was just [TS]

00:14:23   that this one felt way too predictable [TS]

00:14:26   like you can kind of figure out where [TS]

00:14:28   the whole thing was going with the [TS]

00:14:29   doctor in about five minutes right like [TS]

00:14:31   oh he's he did something terrible right [TS]

00:14:33   and now he's here to do a tone matter at [TS]

00:14:35   least it had many had that old star trek [TS]

00:14:37   feel in the sense that was trying to [TS]

00:14:39   come up with a real moral quandary where [TS]

00:14:42   you know you said you need to save this [TS]

00:14:43   guy but he's actually criminal and you [TS]

00:14:45   can save the village by turning him in [TS]

00:14:48   and having him die but you know you sort [TS]

00:14:50   of you can't do that you need to you you [TS]

00:14:53   need to be better than that and that [TS]

00:14:54   accepted it all got kind of messy and [TS]

00:14:56   ben browder who is great yeah the wasted [TS]

00:14:58   again another wasted actor he was great [TS]

00:15:01   in that little bit was great and then he [TS]

00:15:02   sacrifices himself and then the guy ends [TS]

00:15:04   up killing himself at the end anyway so [TS]

00:15:05   why did he even bother [TS]

00:15:07   why didn't the guy just let him just ah [TS]

00:15:09   you know I gotta say the plot this [TS]

00:15:12   doctor who episode was so it was just [TS]

00:15:14   very thin in that the guy wasn't really [TS]

00:15:17   threatening the town like you didn't [TS]

00:15:18   feel like it felt like the cyborgs gonna [TS]

00:15:21   get this guy kill him and you're done [TS]

00:15:22   and the town will be fine and there was [TS]

00:15:24   no sense that there was a menace beyond [TS]

00:15:26   that which is what makes science fiction [TS]

00:15:28   great we're like oh we're going to feed [TS]

00:15:30   the Virgin's the volcano in the volcano [TS]

00:15:32   will erupt [TS]

00:15:32   oh no the volcanoes talking Iraq [TS]

00:15:34   you guys made the wrong moral choice and [TS]

00:15:36   now you're gonna pay for it like no no [TS]

00:15:37   if you make the right royal choice here [TS]

00:15:39   you'll be fine just move on the with [TS]

00:15:40   that you'll get past it and that could [TS]

00:15:42   have been done better because they do [TS]

00:15:44   have that moment where like you know the [TS]

00:15:46   the sideboard goes into the church and [TS]

00:15:48   everyone's like no it's gonna kill us [TS]

00:15:49   and it's like now in these people are [TS]

00:15:50   the people i'm looking for like you're [TS]

00:15:52   like he said he was gonna kill them all [TS]

00:15:53   and he doesn't let the hell yeah it [TS]

00:15:55   doesn't make any sense [TS]

00:15:56   yeah but the Renee but we kind of knew [TS]

00:15:57   that we already knew that was gonna [TS]

00:15:59   happen in some way like i don't think [TS]

00:16:00   anybody was genuinely scared he was this [TS]

00:16:03   sad cyborg a sense of I mean like I [TS]

00:16:06   think but i think i love that I love the [TS]

00:16:08   production design of it [TS]

00:16:09   yes I mean I like the look of it again [TS]

00:16:12   there are some great scenes in a couple [TS]

00:16:14   great interactions ben browder is [TS]

00:16:16   another great like you know guests are [TS]

00:16:17   that they again waste but like there's [TS]

00:16:19   all it everything he keeps putting all [TS]

00:16:22   these ingredients into a bowl and mixing [TS]

00:16:24   up my god yeah that looks good that's [TS]

00:16:25   going in all that was good that going in [TS]

00:16:27   and it comes out well with like a pile [TS]

00:16:29   of blah [TS]

00:16:30   it's disappointing and a spaceship [TS]

00:16:32   shaped like an egg yeah they ran out of [TS]

00:16:34   money on that space oh my god it's like [TS]

00:16:36   generic uh had Jonathan winters in here [TS]

00:16:40   this whole thing where he's chasing the [TS]

00:16:43   isaac character the sheriff and Rory [TS]

00:16:45   right and his displayed as the arnold [TS]

00:16:48   schwarzenegger has no percentage chance [TS]

00:16:49   at happiness and life is 34 whatever you [TS]

00:16:52   know retreat and then the next moment [TS]

00:16:54   he's out trying to shoot and kill them [TS]

00:16:55   and then he's called off by something [TS]

00:16:56   else and then there's the rocks you're [TS]

00:16:58   like why not just set up like we know [TS]

00:17:00   which we want to be any collateral [TS]

00:17:02   damage and so is he has overrides of [TS]

00:17:04   innocence or spare but he managed to [TS]

00:17:06   work around its programming so I as the [TS]

00:17:07   his creator is no longer innocent even [TS]

00:17:09   though we're not at war i mean one line [TS]

00:17:11   instead is like those rocks we can't [TS]

00:17:13   sleep over the rocks now we can step [TS]

00:17:15   over the rocks but with rocks that we [TS]

00:17:16   don't know but he could somebody who it [TS]

00:17:18   was he set up that [TS]

00:17:19   ya found ya but which still doesn't make [TS]

00:17:21   any sense I don't understand why I mean [TS]

00:17:23   there's definitely can't just walk in [TS]

00:17:24   right he should have just walked he is a [TS]

00:17:26   cyborg designed to kill people i don't [TS]

00:17:30   understand why he doesn't just walk into [TS]

00:17:32   the town [TS]

00:17:33   no one's gonna stop it was bad about it [TS]

00:17:35   and shoot the guy but that that that [TS]

00:17:37   could have been so good though is the [TS]

00:17:39   thing like there could have been such a [TS]

00:17:40   thing where you have like the town like [TS]

00:17:43   you know oh we're going to surround this [TS]

00:17:45   guy with innocent people [TS]

00:17:47   yeah because we believe like that to me [TS]

00:17:49   would have been much more compelling is [TS]

00:17:51   if they actually had you know some sort [TS]

00:17:54   of reason why he would not like go and [TS]

00:17:57   do this the place aren't important per [TS]

00:17:59   se right they often it's the it's the [TS]

00:18:01   show is fun to watch and the plots are [TS]

00:18:03   mechanism to watch the sort of fun [TS]

00:18:04   interaction more so than is really [TS]

00:18:06   paying close attention the plot but when [TS]

00:18:07   you I i stopped playing a pinch of the [TS]

00:18:09   plot and I ignored or something silly if [TS]

00:18:11   it's consistent and well-constructed [TS]

00:18:12   it's a machinery that grinds away and [TS]

00:18:15   surprises me at times with a certain [TS]

00:18:16   kind of unexpected moral dilemma or [TS]

00:18:18   other no scientific thing comes up this [TS]

00:18:20   interesting the problem this season [TS]

00:18:22   including this episode is there's too [TS]

00:18:23   much time with the gears grind together [TS]

00:18:25   you're like oh come on i don't want to [TS]

00:18:27   care about that you're making me care [TS]

00:18:29   about that you got a plot that's even [TS]

00:18:30   not serviceable is the problem right if [TS]

00:18:33   the plot is serviceable you can get away [TS]

00:18:35   with it but I in the cases where is [TS]

00:18:36   actively being like now wait why is no [TS]

00:18:39   you get you get the shovel where plot [TS]

00:18:41   where we're really there's so much snow [TS]

00:18:43   shoveled into the plot that they don't [TS]

00:18:45   it doesn't actually lineup or connector [TS]

00:18:46   makes sense but there's a lot of it and [TS]

00:18:48   I think it's dropped beneath all of our [TS]

00:18:50   siracusa thresholds you know it's like [TS]

00:18:52   maybe John just does this all the time [TS]

00:18:53   and like now it's a point of the final [TS]

00:18:55   fantasy you know when I have been when [TS]

00:18:57   they have the ark seasons were like you [TS]

00:18:58   know the first season with matt smith [TS]

00:19:00   there was an ark to that season right [TS]

00:19:01   with on the ark ones that the reason i'm [TS]

00:19:03   able to get and stay engaged with those [TS]

00:19:04   despite the ridiculous possibly have [TS]

00:19:06   something to hold onto like old is a [TS]

00:19:07   narc they're like they're trying to say [TS]

00:19:09   is the girl who waited and this thing [TS]

00:19:10   going on to something with the TARDIS [TS]

00:19:12   and then this little Pete explore piece [TS]

00:19:14   of in the cracks like that's silly but [TS]

00:19:16   it draws you through the season and then [TS]

00:19:18   you can kind of push the stuff out but [TS]

00:19:19   the season had no arc so all you're left [TS]

00:19:21   with is that other stuff that you used [TS]

00:19:23   to ignore while you concentrate on at [TS]

00:19:24   least I used to ignore what I [TS]

00:19:25   concentrate on the ark stuff because if [TS]

00:19:27   you think about their plots their [TS]

00:19:28   nonsensical another they undercut [TS]

00:19:31   themselves because he deliberately set [TS]

00:19:32   out to make the standalone season in [TS]

00:19:34   some ways by taking out all the stuff [TS]

00:19:35   that alludes to the arc they have like [TS]

00:19:37   probably like 5-10 minutes of extra time [TS]

00:19:39   in every episode just like this before [TS]

00:19:42   but up in there to make their nobody's [TS]

00:19:43   missing anything you can do stay good [TS]

00:19:45   standalone episodes i mean their whole [TS]

00:19:46   shows based on good standing out you [TS]

00:19:48   know there's no reason we can't do like [TS]

00:19:50   blink was basically a standalone [TS]

00:19:51   episodes like me there's no reason you [TS]

00:19:52   can't do it well agree they read it [TS]

00:19:54   didn't know that's that's what's [TS]

00:19:56   frustrating as they set out to do a [TS]

00:19:57   season without an arc except for us [TS]

00:19:59   knowing that this was the last season [TS]

00:20:00   with the companions and they wound up [TS]

00:20:02   it's like I think they just let the [TS]

00:20:04   plant machinery is so clunky it you do [TS]

00:20:07   get the sense that the you know again [TS]

00:20:10   and I i could take us back to Russell [TS]

00:20:11   Davis because he used to make these [TS]

00:20:13   pronouncements all the time during his [TS]

00:20:15   seasons which was you know you have this [TS]

00:20:17   tendency toward the high concept and [TS]

00:20:19   it's like well the kids will be playing [TS]

00:20:20   on the schoolyard like okay that's fine [TS]

00:20:22   uh done well the adults will enjoy it [TS]

00:20:26   and the kids will enjoy it too i have no [TS]

00:20:28   doubt that you know the kids in England [TS]

00:20:31   were doing more Cowboys stuff after the [TS]

00:20:34   cowboy episode aired and talking about [TS]

00:20:36   dinosaurs and space ships after that [TS]

00:20:37   episode aired that's fine as it goes but [TS]

00:20:40   what else is there and you know in this [TS]

00:20:43   in this episode there was an attempt [TS]

00:20:45   there's something inside this episode [TS]

00:20:46   about mercy right town called mercy and [TS]

00:20:49   about how you know in opposition to the [TS]

00:20:52   dinosaur episode that's it there's that [TS]

00:20:54   there's this attempt to do this moral [TS]

00:20:55   quandary about you protect this guy [TS]

00:20:57   who's not innocent but you've given him [TS]

00:20:59   your word that you'll protect him and [TS]

00:21:01   can somebody be changed and can somebody [TS]

00:21:03   be redeemed [TS]

00:21:04   ok that's in there but it's executed so [TS]

00:21:06   poorly and in the end it's completely [TS]

00:21:08   messed up because he just leaves to go [TS]

00:21:10   back to his little oval spaceship and [TS]

00:21:13   kill himself and you know it's just ok [TS]

00:21:16   all the parts are here to do a good [TS]

00:21:18   story and then it just falls apart it's [TS]

00:21:21   it straight well here's the thing that [TS]

00:21:23   kills me to is I thought there was great [TS]

00:21:25   the jail tops conversation between Jax [TS]

00:21:27   and the doctor is actually quite [TS]

00:21:29   wonderful with Jackson sort of almost [TS]

00:21:31   teasing him almost saying like look you [TS]

00:21:33   know and I expect the doctors say no I [TS]

00:21:35   have that quandary and my quandary was [TS]

00:21:37   instead of creating killing machines i [TS]

00:21:39   became the killing machine [TS]

00:21:40   I am that cyborg I killed everyone in my [TS]

00:21:42   race and entire the race and still [TS]

00:21:44   living with that and I had to do it [TS]

00:21:46   again and then I had to kill that race [TS]

00:21:47   again and again and again so I've been [TS]

00:21:49   where you are and so how does he have a [TS]

00:21:51   moral superiority I thought that's it [TS]

00:21:54   felt like they forgot the entire [TS]

00:21:55   mythology of it just like an asylum of [TS]

00:21:57   the daleks where they forgot that a [TS]

00:21:59   memory had a child in this case you [TS]

00:22:01   forgot it's like the doctor killed [TS]

00:22:03   everyone and he became that killer in [TS]

00:22:05   order to prevent the universe will be [TS]

00:22:07   destroyed he already made the moral [TS]

00:22:08   choice and he's not engaging a minute [TS]

00:22:10   you're [TS]

00:22:10   company just felt lazy to have that in [TS]

00:22:12   front of us you know those school kids [TS]

00:22:14   in the playground [TS]

00:22:15   I'd I don't think any school kids are [TS]

00:22:17   playing anybody from this episode and I [TS]

00:22:19   keep school kids more credit miss I mean [TS]

00:22:20   like there are their episodes where it's [TS]

00:22:22   a credit episode the plot makes no sense [TS]

00:22:24   but there's one character that piques [TS]

00:22:25   your interest in that character has [TS]

00:22:26   sparked there's no characters what [TS]

00:22:28   sparked the doctor didn't have that [TS]

00:22:29   stupid robot guy didn't have it like [TS]

00:22:31   there's no equivalent of like textin my [TS]

00:22:34   son was intrigued by the robot cowboy i [TS]

00:22:36   have to say that because you know robot [TS]

00:22:37   cowboy coming through and say he know he [TS]

00:22:40   was he was he was like oh always like [TS]

00:22:42   the robot cowboy [TS]

00:22:43   so I think there maybe is a little bit [TS]

00:22:46   but it's on that super simple level of [TS]

00:22:47   like what if they were a robot cowboy ok [TS]

00:22:50   done [TS]

00:22:51   how about a story about the road bike [TS]

00:22:52   and no no we don't have a story but we [TS]

00:22:54   do have a robot you have a row between a [TS]

00:22:56   cyborg we're going to put a hat on him [TS]

00:22:57   will not wear my cowboy for new list [TS]

00:23:00   that's true and that once again not a [TS]

00:23:03   very good [TS]

00:23:04   cyborg cowboy no nobody and then for the [TS]

00:23:08   last 20 minutes you know that he's gonna [TS]

00:23:09   end up being the sheriff of the town [TS]

00:23:10   right yeah [TS]

00:23:11   yes and I I don't even think they [TS]

00:23:13   executed that very well [TS]

00:23:15   no it's like it's like okay so you're [TS]

00:23:17   you're implacable your implacable hatred [TS]

00:23:19   is now gone because everyone you try to [TS]

00:23:20   kill is dead [TS]

00:23:21   what do you guys like I don't know water [TS]

00:23:23   the desert and blow myself up I have an [TS]

00:23:25   idea [TS]

00:23:26   this County the sheriff ok ok I killed [TS]

00:23:29   the last one and then surely Charles [TS]

00:23:31   surely trusted after you almost killed [TS]

00:23:33   all of them i'm sure they'll be happy to [TS]

00:23:35   welcome with open arms [TS]

00:23:38   no one will ever question why there's a [TS]

00:23:40   robotic a sheriff [TS]

00:23:41   some say he waters those hills even now [TS]

00:23:44   fightin crime scan and face tattoos 11 [TS]

00:23:49   stuff wearing terrible special effects [TS]

00:23:51   on his body battling coyotes uh actually [TS]

00:23:55   that's did the increase in tattoos and [TS]

00:23:58   popular culture in the in the thousands [TS]

00:24:00   caused a series of terrible accidents [TS]

00:24:02   where the robot chair had to kill [TS]

00:24:04   innocent they were going to burning man [TS]

00:24:06   they just were passing through but no [TS]

00:24:09   yeah all right let's uh let's move on to [TS]

00:24:13   the power of three the cube episode I [TS]

00:24:16   you know what I'm gonna speak of in [TS]

00:24:17   defense of this one I like the QB too i [TS]

00:24:20   think i think it was the best episode of [TS]

00:24:21   The Seagull wow you like all of it from [TS]

00:24:23   until the very [TS]

00:24:24   and I like the cube not all of it not [TS]

00:24:27   all of it I thought again the plot part [TS]

00:24:29   again there's two thirds what makes it [TS]

00:24:31   good is that they're actually characters [TS]

00:24:32   in this one [TS]

00:24:33   yeah exactly it's interesting all the [TS]

00:24:35   stuff with Rory and Amy and like having [TS]

00:24:37   their other life and going back and [TS]

00:24:38   forth and there's all these cubes [TS]

00:24:40   showing up and everyone's like I don't [TS]

00:24:41   know that's weird like I i like that [TS]

00:24:43   setup like all of that was interesting [TS]

00:24:46   it was funny to see Amy and Rory [TS]

00:24:47   bouncing between their real life and [TS]

00:24:50   their life with the doctor it was funny [TS]

00:24:51   when the doctor had to come and hang out [TS]

00:24:53   with him for a while we just got so [TS]

00:24:54   bored you know and I mean it was an [TS]

00:24:58   interesting dynamic you know the doctor [TS]

00:24:59   almost comes off as like this is an [TS]

00:25:01   increasing thing where the doctor comes [TS]

00:25:03   up is like their kid you know a certain [TS]

00:25:05   extent because you have them as the [TS]

00:25:06   parent figures almost is their [TS]

00:25:08   son-in-law let me ask this [TS]

00:25:09   let me ask this how many people liked [TS]

00:25:11   the first like eighty percent us episode [TS]

00:25:13   everyone liked it yeah yeah yeah it's [TS]

00:25:15   ridiculous the game into cubes actually [TS]

00:25:18   open yeah but it's the end it's like [TS]

00:25:20   running out within the pulp fiction [TS]

00:25:21   suitcase it's like now that's not [TS]

00:25:22   important it's not a problem with [TS]

00:25:24   finding out what's in that black you so [TS]

00:25:25   like dan I will defend this episode and [TS]

00:25:27   I but but first i will say the last 20 [TS]

00:25:29   minutes or so is ridiculous you hit [TS]

00:25:31   literally the doctor goes up to a [TS]

00:25:33   spaceship that was there before but we [TS]

00:25:36   never saw it and then he takes a sonic [TS]

00:25:38   screwdriver out and goes boot and it [TS]

00:25:40   solves the plot and that's it right so [TS]

00:25:42   that that's ridiculous but I liked this [TS]

00:25:44   episode because of the amy and rory [TS]

00:25:47   stuff because of the idea of what what [TS]

00:25:49   what's happening in a companions life [TS]

00:25:51   and it's out of sync there there's some [TS]

00:25:52   nice stuff in here about how they keep [TS]

00:25:54   aging but they keep coming back to where [TS]

00:25:56   they began to their friends are starting [TS]

00:25:57   to wonder why they looked older and [TS]

00:25:59   they're sort of the doctor there's some [TS]

00:26:01   some kind of larger flavored stuff where [TS]

00:26:03   the doctors trying to understand human [TS]

00:26:05   regular life and he and he can't and and [TS]

00:26:09   then the the alien invasion itself is so [TS]

00:26:12   weird and awesome and kind of like a [TS]

00:26:16   like unimportant but just as below the [TS]

00:26:19   radar it's like obvious that it's [TS]

00:26:20   happening and yet nobody cares and that [TS]

00:26:22   the cubes end up being used as flower [TS]

00:26:24   pots and things like that i mean well [TS]

00:26:26   and that's a really impress is the idea [TS]

00:26:28   of like this is a plant that has been [TS]

00:26:29   invaded so many times right everybody so [TS]

00:26:32   boring that nobody cares like see how we [TS]

00:26:34   can see I mean that's a great setup [TS]

00:26:36   they're playing the longest the [TS]

00:26:37   his greatest aliens playing the long [TS]

00:26:39   game it's like sleeper cells while they [TS]

00:26:41   bring in you bring Brian's dad back [TS]

00:26:43   again i love that he's watching the Q [TS]

00:26:45   yeah Q tired time it's day 3 22 no cubed [TS]

00:26:51   us far but he's so earnest that's what's [TS]

00:26:53   great about him as a character they [TS]

00:26:55   should've left the cubes around that's [TS]

00:26:56   what they should have done is like the [TS]

00:26:58   end of this episode okay I'll should [TS]

00:26:59   have ended with no with no resolution [TS]

00:27:01   that would speculation because they then [TS]

00:27:03   you can bring it back which is totally a [TS]

00:27:04   doctor who thing to do would have been [TS]

00:27:05   impossible cell but i agree would have [TS]

00:27:07   been great [TS]

00:27:08   I kind of like it right for this tended [TS]

00:27:09   and there was no alien invasion [TS]

00:27:11   there's no resolution that would be kind [TS]

00:27:13   of cool or an alien spaceship that is [TS]

00:27:15   like I'd like that UPS of space comment [TS]

00:27:18   like and I did you find our missing [TS]

00:27:20   cubes because we like lost those but [TS]

00:27:22   they didn't even squandered this one [TS]

00:27:24   because like anything remotely hard [TS]

00:27:26   sci-fi thing that little cubes come down [TS]

00:27:28   and then you know they are inexplicable [TS]

00:27:29   whatever you you would have people like [TS]

00:27:32   we're trying to cut into it we blew it [TS]

00:27:33   up with a nuclear bomb we tried to crush [TS]

00:27:35   it we cooked it you are doing little [TS]

00:27:37   unit units doing that [TS]

00:27:38   yeah you don't like it the in an episode [TS]

00:27:40   where inexplicable cubes come down you [TS]

00:27:42   have to like that's one of the things [TS]

00:27:44   one of the directions you can go as [TS]

00:27:45   someone for you and you can just say if [TS]

00:27:46   I'm were ignoring it someone else is [TS]

00:27:48   feeling that were not but when the [TS]

00:27:49   doctor is there shouldn't he be like [TS]

00:27:51   examining the cubes in some way other [TS]

00:27:53   than looking at it like hit his level of [TS]

00:27:55   Investigation is similar to Rory's dad I [TS]

00:27:57   took it as being that the doctor was was [TS]

00:27:59   actually I didn't think that any of the [TS]

00:28:03   investigation was necessary he was like [TS]

00:28:04   look all we need to do is wait around [TS]

00:28:06   and they'll do something eventually [TS]

00:28:07   they'll try to kill him then we'll [TS]

00:28:09   figure it out its gonna grab a jacket [TS]

00:28:10   strangle that that's a very Doctor Who [TS]

00:28:12   strategy i think is a look I'm the main [TS]

00:28:14   character here I i regenerate and I'm [TS]

00:28:17   protected by the plot so I figured out [TS]

00:28:19   why I've got a magic wand right here [TS]

00:28:20   that I will wave and solve it [TS]

00:28:22   so let's just wait and see what happens [TS]

00:28:24   right and it's like Oh what happens is [TS]

00:28:27   disappointment I like that little aside [TS]

00:28:29   where they're at the the anniversary [TS]

00:28:30   party and then he dragged them away you [TS]

00:28:33   know and they come back [TS]

00:28:34   how long were they got seven weeks you [TS]

00:28:37   know like they've gone off and they have [TS]

00:28:38   a little montage of the the various [TS]

00:28:40   adventures like I was I don't know [TS]

00:28:42   there's a big alien spaceship underneath [TS]

00:28:43   the Savoy Hotel in the frame it you feel [TS]

00:28:46   like you'd rather watch those episodes [TS]

00:28:47   sometimes though like they go off on [TS]

00:28:49   those ones they do it they show one [TS]

00:28:50   other senior like [TS]

00:28:51   oh you would rather watch that episode [TS]

00:28:52   but yeah but you know if they executed [TS]

00:28:55   that it would be better for 130 years [TS]

00:28:58   population is going to be a heart attack [TS]

00:29:00   because house so terrible was like [TS]

00:29:03   however they said that they were dead [TS]

00:29:04   they were dead for like an hour and they [TS]

00:29:06   all suffered terrible Terry behind [TS]

00:29:08   five-part they got me that part out that [TS]

00:29:11   i was like i was i was texting James [TS]

00:29:13   could have gotten away with that over [TS]

00:29:14   there was like two yeah like 3 34 [TS]

00:29:16   seconds yet lag time Jason they were [TS]

00:29:18   dead the brand so it's so it's so bad [TS]

00:29:20   the area and yet i'll defend this [TS]

00:29:21   episode because again it ended stupidly [TS]

00:29:23   was going to I really enjoyed it up to [TS]

00:29:28   that point I because i love the [TS]

00:29:29   character stuff and it was founded [TS]

00:29:31   charming and and like to John's point [TS]

00:29:34   from earlier which is well if you don't [TS]

00:29:35   have the plot what is left and the [TS]

00:29:37   answer is in many of these episodes not [TS]

00:29:39   much but in this 1i i found it into this [TS]

00:29:43   was to me actually this was the great [TS]

00:29:44   use of Amy and Rory and Rory's dad and I [TS]

00:29:47   wish there had been more of that this [TS]

00:29:49   season because I felt like that you fit [TS]

00:29:52   for this little 5 episode block that [TS]

00:29:54   sort of about saying goodbye to Amy and [TS]

00:29:55   Rory there could have been more of that [TS]

00:29:57   and in fact in some ways this is the [TS]

00:30:00   episode that makes me feel like you know [TS]

00:30:03   sad to say goodbye the amy and read more [TS]

00:30:05   than their final episode because this is [TS]

00:30:08   I would have actually been happy if this [TS]

00:30:10   had been their final episode and a [TS]

00:30:11   resolution had been we're too old for [TS]

00:30:13   this crap [TS]

00:30:14   yeah we'll stay they made a choice right [TS]

00:30:16   like and i love that the ending the [TS]

00:30:18   actually was good with his father [TS]

00:30:20   yeah so what happens you know what [TS]

00:30:22   happens everybody else travels with you [TS]

00:30:24   and then later on the whole you know [TS]

00:30:25   take care of them because they're not [TS]

00:30:27   gonna give you up you know that to me [TS]

00:30:29   was more had more of that like emotional [TS]

00:30:32   impact yeah he had to be honest as they [TS]

00:30:34   said you know what happens is that thing [TS]

00:30:36   and you're like you think about how many [TS]

00:30:37   campaigns that have been like 20 or 30 [TS]

00:30:39   over the seasons and you like some are [TS]

00:30:41   lost some are you know go on with their [TS]

00:30:44   lives i'm projecting leave in a few of [TS]

00:30:46   them died like yeah i mean the ones that [TS]

00:30:48   is one that don't die don't remember [TS]

00:30:50   because most of them but some of them [TS]

00:30:52   wind up for getting me your brain erased [TS]

00:30:55   another dimension [TS]

00:30:56   he's got multiple different dimensions [TS]

00:30:58   so let's talk about the angels take [TS]

00:30:59   manhattan which is the the big capital [TS]

00:31:02   angels take manhattan please [TS]

00:31:04   and a little group and the Daleks take [TS]

00:31:06   staten island haha uh this is the big [TS]

00:31:10   farewell where the weeping angels come [TS]

00:31:12   back and there's a new york city and a [TS]

00:31:14   modern-day very briefly and then we're [TS]

00:31:16   back to thirties New York what is our [TS]

00:31:18   the British obsessed with thirties and [TS]

00:31:21   somebody else I know Scott math naughty [TS]

00:31:24   but you wrote this episode didn't use [TS]

00:31:27   gotta admit I i wrote parts of it and [TS]

00:31:31   you guess which parts there are a lot of [TS]

00:31:33   british actor lot of British actors you [TS]

00:31:35   want to try it out a hard-boiled [TS]

00:31:36   detective accident as well or poorly as [TS]

00:31:38   they can [TS]

00:31:39   I've got the better be soon as the [TS]

00:31:41   narration came out of like that's a [TS]

00:31:42   British person doing a really bad New [TS]

00:31:44   York acts I know these solar was [TS]

00:31:46   terrible [TS]

00:31:47   now Mike machine by the way my Christian [TS]

00:31:49   Americans are available actually [TS]

00:31:50   America's American he was a terrific 11 [TS]

00:31:53   he's an old improv comedian who's on [TS]

00:31:55   whose line is it anyway the British run [TS]

00:31:57   of it and I was in The Groundlings and [TS]

00:31:59   I've seen some terrible films and I [TS]

00:32:01   thought he was fabulous i wanted to see [TS]

00:32:02   much large guy the ritual that mobster [TS]

00:32:05   it was the monster got it right i wanted [TS]

00:32:07   to understand what is point was like the [TS]

00:32:10   idea was he like the tool of the Angels [TS]

00:32:12   like the pond at the Angels Florida and [TS]

00:32:14   sunnah remote so he was he was a [TS]

00:32:17   collector much like once again kiss pho [TS]

00:32:19   and he wanted to get the ball back to [TS]

00:32:22   anything angel Zach for some reason and [TS]

00:32:25   then they being angels can't break down [TS]

00:32:27   doors [TS]

00:32:28   well that's probably not because if you [TS]

00:32:31   were smart as a lot of locked doors have [TS]

00:32:32   an I max but what does that even have to [TS]

00:32:35   do with the whole like battery far I [TS]

00:32:37   I don't know sherry I again I was so [TS]

00:32:40   angry [TS]

00:32:41   how did they feed those people for 40 [TS]

00:32:43   years in the hotel room service [TS]

00:32:44   yesterday i'm very good room service is [TS]

00:32:46   close your eyes were coming in with your [TS]

00:32:48   food [TS]

00:32:49   close your eyes the food appears it's a [TS]

00:32:53   core of interesting ideas here right [TS]

00:32:55   there's this there's that there's the [TS]

00:32:56   the book thing which is played more for [TS]

00:32:58   Laughs actually than 40 the book is [TS]

00:33:00   telling us our future there was a little [TS]

00:33:02   bit more that i like the idea that the [TS]

00:33:04   Angels if we got this premise of the [TS]

00:33:05   angel send people back in time and they [TS]

00:33:07   feed on the time energy we got that from [TS]

00:33:08   blink so yeah I like the idea that the [TS]

00:33:10   Angels have created a place that they [TS]

00:33:12   didn't stores entirely without you ever [TS]

00:33:14   but you're right the whole idea should [TS]

00:33:15   be that the Angels just sent him back in [TS]

00:33:17   time but this like well now they cheat [TS]

00:33:19   they send you back in time and then they [TS]

00:33:20   go find you back in time they send you [TS]

00:33:22   further back and then may you just kind [TS]

00:33:24   of loop around and you know it was iight [TS]

00:33:26   like someone pointed out in the image am [TS]

00:33:28   just now it's the matrix right that's [TS]

00:33:29   what bothers me about it is like I've [TS]

00:33:31   seen that plot device three or four [TS]

00:33:33   times right like in the last what's the [TS]

00:33:35   corridors look like the matrix to write [TS]

00:33:37   it looks actually like we're neo gets [TS]

00:33:39   his powers and and but I mean it takes [TS]

00:33:41   me we know it is making logical sense [TS]

00:33:43   you send them back once maybe something [TS]

00:33:45   back further there's a point when the [TS]

00:33:46   building doesn't exist and then why do [TS]

00:33:48   you take care of them for 40 years until [TS]

00:33:50   they die you kill them at that point [TS]

00:33:52   they're not nice Psychopaths they're [TS]

00:33:53   Psychopaths so it didn't make it's like [TS]

00:33:55   you need to feed off the energy as they [TS]

00:33:57   grow older the whole body that's part of [TS]

00:33:59   it in a plot point that wasn't added i [TS]

00:34:00   don't know well and it makes them seem [TS]

00:34:01   more scheming and I think they're more [TS]

00:34:03   threatening is just sort of this or Ajax [TS]

00:34:05   exam and that's scarier and like the [TS]

00:34:08   fact that they're like haha now we are [TS]

00:34:10   even planning things like we have having [TS]

00:34:13   charities that will get you blah i mean [TS]

00:34:15   those were created because those were [TS]

00:34:17   not scary this fat little kids that they [TS]

00:34:19   made they I think couldn't help they [TS]

00:34:21   were trying to plan for last or not but [TS]

00:34:22   they're not they're not scary look that [TS]

00:34:24   one scene with the repose of the match [TS]

00:34:26   that was pretty good i like your credit [TS]

00:34:28   and here's the thing to the episode [TS]

00:34:30   drove me insane i watched it twice [TS]

00:34:31   because i want to see if maybe of we [TS]

00:34:33   were looking for the cause all these [TS]

00:34:35   years [TS]

00:34:35   beside this is what drove me German [TS]

00:34:37   attributed insane and it's my god i yes [TS]

00:34:40   your room service will be there soon [TS]

00:34:44   going ok we're done and actually only 15 [TS]

00:34:46   or something so the thing that drove me [TS]

00:34:49   crazy episode is the invention the [TS]

00:34:51   invention of rules that govern the [TS]

00:34:53   entire universe that we've never been [TS]

00:34:55   told about in the entire can of the show [TS]

00:34:57   and the doctors center space toppings [TS]

00:35:00   that are I know but this is this is [TS]

00:35:02   ridiculous like if you read something or [TS]

00:35:04   you see a gravestone now it is immutable [TS]

00:35:06   and they're fixed points in time which [TS]

00:35:07   has any we've seen things change the [TS]

00:35:10   gravestone in fact changes when Amy goes [TS]

00:35:12   back into the episode it's it's absurd [TS]

00:35:14   energy specialist haha but time can be [TS]

00:35:17   rewritten to which he says yeah I except [TS]

00:35:18   sometimes not [TS]

00:35:19   yeah exactly what I'm just like why not [TS]

00:35:21   go back to the TARDIS and try to save if [TS]

00:35:24   you read ahead it doesn't suddenly you [TS]

00:35:26   can't fix anything even things that [TS]

00:35:28   aren't that means everything ever [TS]

00:35:29   written in the history book can't be [TS]

00:35:31   changed because people read it except [TS]

00:35:33   dr. you change those things are [TS]

00:35:34   sometimes cause them all the time so it [TS]

00:35:36   irritated the heck out of me that they [TS]

00:35:38   did that they even changed the rules for [TS]

00:35:39   the angels to like the one thing that [TS]

00:35:41   would be the one episode that we like we [TS]

00:35:43   all like blink and I said well guess [TS]

00:35:44   what we're gonna change the angel rules [TS]

00:35:45   and angels used to be anyone is looking [TS]

00:35:47   at them they can attack the new rule is [TS]

00:35:49   if you're not looking at them they can [TS]

00:35:51   attack you but other people can be [TS]

00:35:52   looking at them which makes no sense [TS]

00:35:53   w-wait know even if they framed [TS]

00:35:55   incredibly carefully i watch the second [TS]

00:35:58   time because i thought they were doing [TS]

00:35:59   that and it's what they're what they're [TS]

00:36:00   maintaining is that is that you it is [TS]

00:36:03   like when the NEC name is blocking the [TS]

00:36:06   line of sight to the eyes for the angels [TS]

00:36:08   she's not blocking that line of sight [TS]

00:36:10   she is they set up the stage they're [TS]

00:36:12   very carefully it's but here's a here's [TS]

00:36:14   the 1 refrigeration to that the Statue [TS]

00:36:18   of Liberty along yes sir yeah I don't [TS]

00:36:21   know but but if it's got this [TS]

00:36:23   it's hip tellers nobody noticed pose if [TS]

00:36:25   that's not because it goes boom baby [TS]

00:36:28   won't stop looking at the table i look [TS]

00:36:29   at it and it doesn't move any incredible [TS]

00:36:32   they're looking to each other's eyes and [TS]

00:36:33   the Statue of Liberty's like I'll just [TS]

00:36:34   stay here because i don't have that we [TS]

00:36:36   don't have the budget to move me anymore [TS]

00:36:37   so this is it i'm gonna set [TS]

00:36:38   I can't move anymore also that was a [TS]

00:36:40   plot device that had no point while they [TS]

00:36:42   wanted they wanted to say wouldn't it be [TS]

00:36:43   neat of the statuary was an [TS]

00:36:45   yesterday it was an idea right like [TS]

00:36:47   again it's a premise that has like it [TS]

00:36:49   doesn't deliver but i wanted to say the [TS]

00:36:50   about the point of Glen earlier I what [TS]

00:36:53   bothered me was the will full changing [TS]

00:36:56   of the characters to make them act in [TS]

00:36:57   ways that were out of character because [TS]

00:36:59   we know they had to end up leaving [TS]

00:37:01   because when the doctors like come back [TS]

00:37:03   to the TARDIS will figure this out there [TS]

00:37:04   is no way Amy would be like oh yeah you [TS]

00:37:07   know what I'm just going to commit [TS]

00:37:08   suicide instead instead of oh you know [TS]

00:37:10   what that's great let's go back to the [TS]

00:37:11   TARDIS and figure this out because that [TS]

00:37:12   is what Amy Pond done right like it [TS]

00:37:14   doesn't make any sense [TS]

00:37:16   it only makes sense if you think well [TS]

00:37:17   she's leaving the show so of course [TS]

00:37:18   she's gotta be something I contract [TS]

00:37:20   running out this sheet its a cheat to [TS]

00:37:23   have it try and pull emotional heart [TS]

00:37:24   strings that don't work because it's [TS]

00:37:26   clearly achieved clearly the you know [TS]

00:37:29   and I think we all saw this coming right [TS]

00:37:30   that when we heard that the Angels going [TS]

00:37:32   to be in the last episode with amy and [TS]

00:37:34   rory my immediate thought was they're [TS]

00:37:36   going to send them back in time that's [TS]

00:37:38   ever gonna send Rory back in time [TS]

00:37:39   because we always dies or something [TS]

00:37:42   right at least at least they had a joke [TS]

00:37:44   about that this time I gave them a [TS]

00:37:45   thumbs up for that so so we all knew [TS]

00:37:47   that that I think or guessed that this [TS]

00:37:50   would be the way and that's how this [TS]

00:37:51   episode felt like we had the idea which [TS]

00:37:54   is I want to send Rory back in time and [TS]

00:37:56   then Amy makes a choice to be with him [TS]

00:37:58   and that's the end of their trip and [TS]

00:38:00   everything else is predicated on that [TS]

00:38:02   but everything else is we have to find a [TS]

00:38:03   way we'll wait we can't say that once [TS]

00:38:05   you sent back in time you can travel in [TS]

00:38:07   time anymore because the doctor and [TS]

00:38:08   Martha get the TARDIS impact in 1969 and [TS]

00:38:10   then they travel in time so let's come [TS]

00:38:13   up with a you know a time some sort of [TS]

00:38:15   time locked premise and everything [TS]

00:38:18   seemed to be reverse engineered to get [TS]

00:38:20   to the desired result kinda like the [TS]

00:38:22   cyborg becoming the sheriff right and [TS]

00:38:24   none of it felt natural and that that [TS]

00:38:27   the rules of the of the angels were [TS]

00:38:29   actually being subverted in order to get [TS]

00:38:32   I to the destination it means I you know [TS]

00:38:35   I thought that the the end of the [TS]

00:38:36   emotional impact of the scene on the [TS]

00:38:38   rooftop with amy and rory and we're [TS]

00:38:39   being willing to jump off the building [TS]

00:38:41   and take the chance as he didn't want to [TS]

00:38:43   be locked in that room is always willing [TS]

00:38:45   to kill himself come on that's growing [TS]

00:38:47   life I thought that was a nice i thought [TS]

00:38:49   that was a nice is you and I thought [TS]

00:38:51   some of the shots of the of the Angels [TS]

00:38:53   chasing people in the lights blinking [TS]

00:38:54   all that work active but as the story [TS]

00:38:57   it's just like a [TS]

00:38:59   complete mess because they just they [TS]

00:39:00   know where they want to go and then it's [TS]

00:39:02   just a matter of back packing up to go [TS]

00:39:04   out there and we know where they want to [TS]

00:39:05   go when they find when you find out he's [TS]

00:39:07   been torturing the angel to see if it [TS]

00:39:09   can hurt whatever that means the mob [TS]

00:39:10   boss you get that and I'm thinking oh so [TS]

00:39:12   the setup is there's a woman and a child [TS]

00:39:14   across the street the statues across [TS]

00:39:16   street that are watching your like [TS]

00:39:17   they're going to actually humanize the [TS]

00:39:19   angels are gonna make this not be you [TS]

00:39:20   know more applicable black rebel forces [TS]

00:39:22   of nature there's gonna be there's gonna [TS]

00:39:24   be negotiation the doctors going to [TS]

00:39:26   negotiate because this is actually he's [TS]

00:39:28   watching them scream right you know that [TS]

00:39:30   that's what River says no they're [TS]

00:39:33   screaming you know the others can hear [TS]

00:39:35   him and I thought well here's where you [TS]

00:39:37   get this [TS]

00:39:38   these aren't just like you know yes [TS]

00:39:40   they're predators but we're going to go [TS]

00:39:42   deeper than that and then now this is [TS]

00:39:43   squandered also yeah well I were writing [TS]

00:39:46   this episode I would have had because i [TS]

00:39:47   did like when Amy and Rory jumped off [TS]

00:39:50   the building but then i would have had [TS]

00:39:51   them just died there and the paradox [TS]

00:39:53   just didn't work boots [TS]

00:39:55   yeah yeah that would have been really i [TS]

00:39:56   thought about that I wondered if that [TS]

00:39:57   was how they're going to get out of a [TS]

00:39:59   bummer was like that seems too dark [TS]

00:40:00   even for this show but it would have [TS]

00:40:02   been better it would've been more [TS]

00:40:03   effective [TS]

00:40:05   I thought the whole setup at the [TS]

00:40:06   beginning suck to like the whole private [TS]

00:40:08   I wanted it to be kind of more [TS]

00:40:09   interesting but it was just there for a [TS]

00:40:10   you know is that one good part of the [TS]

00:40:12   show and see I know what I'm gonna pick [TS]

00:40:14   to write if someone took one good part [TS]

00:40:16   of the show up with your pic of this [TS]

00:40:17   episode or is it people say there's none [TS]

00:40:20   the scene where Rory goes to get coffee [TS]

00:40:22   haha the river dr interaction and then [TS]

00:40:27   the risk breaking thing out so at least [TS]

00:40:29   one person picker same thing is going to [TS]

00:40:31   pick the same thing I like River Song [TS]

00:40:32   breaking her on rest to get anything [TS]

00:40:34   Heidi if you yeah that's good then I [TS]

00:40:35   realized like that i like the idea of [TS]

00:40:37   what if an angel grabs you by the wrist [TS]

00:40:38   what the heck do you do then I mean that [TS]

00:40:40   whole that whole bit was good i like [TS]

00:40:42   seeing on the rooftop i like i like that [TS]

00:40:44   little that that was like that the [TS]

00:40:46   farewell the actual farewell to Rory [TS]

00:40:48   where he go ahead Glenn enumerator [TS]

00:40:51   old-time arias die thank you i made a [TS]

00:40:53   list of curiosity and so you how we [TS]

00:40:56   tried twice [TS]

00:40:57   how many times is where he died and I [TS]

00:40:59   count nine or ten so mrs. pocket kills [TS]

00:41:03   him in Amy's choice which is a dream [TS]

00:41:05   the doctor blows up the TARDIS name is [TS]

00:41:06   tres which is a dream [TS]

00:41:08   he's actually shot by race trac silurian [TS]

00:41:10   in cold blood as really killed but then [TS]

00:41:13   this is where I say you know this is an [TS]

00:41:14   additional one he's also and then raced [TS]

00:41:16   for AC unit of track right so don't know [TS]

00:41:19   that doesn't count twice but it's sort [TS]

00:41:20   of like another kind of death it's a 24 [TS]

00:41:22   he's shot by canton day of the Moon [TS]

00:41:24   which is faked he's drowned in the curse [TS]

00:41:27   of the black spot and then revived [TS]

00:41:28   that's real [TS]

00:41:29   yeah he's found is a skeleton by amy and [TS]

00:41:31   the doctor's wife which was an illusion [TS]

00:41:32   eat then this is the best part he dies [TS]

00:41:35   of old age and angels take manhattan [TS]

00:41:36   then he jumps off a building angels take [TS]

00:41:39   manhattan baby dies of old age Nichols [TS]

00:41:41   take manhattan but it's one of those [TS]

00:41:43   real twice or well he dies twice twice a [TS]

00:41:46   real it was such a crappy scene and when [TS]

00:41:49   they come back and then like an angel [TS]

00:41:51   pops out because it's about that there [TS]

00:41:53   to kill it at the back of town [TS]

00:41:55   what that's so stupid i was expecting [TS]

00:41:58   the last but I want to see the doctor [TS]

00:42:00   actually take out the sonic screwdriver [TS]

00:42:01   and have the angel crack in a million [TS]

00:42:03   pieces because he's so angry [TS]

00:42:05   that's the doctor does he quits genocide [TS]

00:42:07   when he's angry and he didn't commit [TS]

00:42:09   genocide when you think of these as I [TS]

00:42:12   don't tell me kill species her bag [TS]

00:42:15   well i thought i did I got a little [TS]

00:42:17   misty-eyed at the last part there [TS]

00:42:19   because as so Amy of course throughout [TS]

00:42:21   this whole time when Amy and Rory are [TS]

00:42:23   together you always think well she loves [TS]

00:42:25   Rory but she really loves the doctor and [TS]

00:42:28   at this point she makes a choice and she [TS]

00:42:31   chooses Rory which I thought was very [TS]

00:42:34   touching because you find your last [TS]

00:42:35   season and I what they've also they've [TS]

00:42:37   done a couple more times with this is [TS]

00:42:38   like the final 11 assume so he's married [TS]

00:42:41   to keep reading you were already married [TS]

00:42:42   to her daughter [TS]

00:42:44   I mean I don't they and they never were [TS]

00:42:47   quite able to escape that Spectre I [TS]

00:42:49   think of its the doctor and a femaie [TS]

00:42:51   attractive female companion and clearly [TS]

00:42:54   there you know it's going to be and [TS]

00:42:56   sparks sparks will fly he goes back on [TS]

00:42:57   the ship pieces oh I'm sure that your [TS]

00:42:59   parents and they're dead i forgot you're [TS]

00:43:01   like a palace does he say almost those [TS]

00:43:04   exact words but then also when when Amy [TS]

00:43:07   and Rory jump off the building the [TS]

00:43:10   doctor yells after Amy he doesn't care [TS]

00:43:12   about road and yeah and I thought that [TS]

00:43:14   was a really good moment because you [TS]

00:43:16   think well that's kinda he's a jerk [TS]

00:43:18   really cares about himself you know the [TS]

00:43:19   rooftop the sexual liberties [TS]

00:43:21   side eye the rooftop scene i was [TS]

00:43:24   disappointed that the rooftop scene was [TS]

00:43:26   not the final scene that that right that [TS]

00:43:28   we had they had to do the well and we do [TS]

00:43:31   this magic thing and then everything is [TS]

00:43:33   fine and all the angels defeated yay [TS]

00:43:35   only it's not a and i would rather that [TS]

00:43:38   benefit that they they jump and the [TS]

00:43:40   whole thing goes kablooey and they end [TS]

00:43:42   up still being in the thirties and for [TS]

00:43:45   some reason they can't you know that's [TS]

00:43:46   the end and they can't move anymore but [TS]

00:43:48   instead they come forward and then [TS]

00:43:50   there's that random angel in the [TS]

00:43:52   graveyard and more even if they had this [TS]

00:43:54   then thrown it back to the previous [TS]

00:43:55   episode where it's like they come back [TS]

00:43:58   and you know if they had developed a [TS]

00:43:59   theme throughout the entire thing where [TS]

00:44:00   it's like you know what maybe maybe when [TS]

00:44:02   it's time for us to stop traveling and [TS]

00:44:04   then you know it gets too close right [TS]

00:44:06   the end is like that's it that's too [TS]

00:44:08   close you know we've got to go back to [TS]

00:44:09   our to our real wife like even that [TS]

00:44:11   would have been perfect river says river [TS]

00:44:13   points out she's gonna vortex [TS]

00:44:14   manipulator they can cut through time [TS]

00:44:15   without it being a problem and they [TS]

00:44:17   don't use it and also you have Captain [TS]

00:44:19   Jack Harkness in that time he's got a [TS]

00:44:21   vortex manipulator doesn't work and [TS]

00:44:22   river can still go visit them right just [TS]

00:44:24   a doctor who can tell what why can't the [TS]

00:44:26   doctor so the doctor can't go to that [TS]

00:44:28   time period that already can't go to New [TS]

00:44:30   York because can you just take the topic [TS]

00:44:31   autonomous to like Staten Island and [TS]

00:44:33   then take the ferry no one no one wants [TS]

00:44:36   to communicate in from jersey or Staten [TS]

00:44:38   Island come on [TS]

00:44:39   I was like if you can't go in 1938 go in [TS]

00:44:41   like nineteen forty-two I mean it's [TS]

00:44:43   still there they waited before [TS]

00:44:45   yeah was there are five year difference [TS]

00:44:47   in their ages because I thought that [TS]

00:44:48   they'd agree on pages on a gravestone [TS]

00:44:50   were like oh she missed my couple years [TS]

00:44:52   but she waited five years like that [TS]

00:44:53   would be the better way to end it is to [TS]

00:44:55   show them you know just leave because [TS]

00:44:57   women live longer [TS]

00:44:58   yeah figured that's what that was Angelo [TS]

00:45:00   they may who knows what the real wages [TS]

00:45:02   were right because they've been aging [TS]

00:45:03   and out i can try to figure that a few [TS]

00:45:05   times because if your time traveler how [TS]

00:45:07   do you even keep track of what your real [TS]

00:45:08   age Israeli gravestones have your age on [TS]

00:45:12   them instead of the years of your life [TS]

00:45:13   well TV gravestones going here so that [TS]

00:45:16   you know [TS]

00:45:17   ah yeah it was i was disappointed the [TS]

00:45:19   episode and there were some things about [TS]

00:45:21   that i like but it just felt like [TS]

00:45:22   overstuffed and over trying to create a [TS]

00:45:26   super dramatic ending and i will [TS]

00:45:29   actually would have preferred something [TS]

00:45:30   along the lines of the power of three [TS]

00:45:32   that was a little quieter [TS]

00:45:34   and uh and just I does every severing of [TS]

00:45:39   the doctor and his companions have to be [TS]

00:45:41   this operatic exercise i mean i guess [TS]

00:45:44   the point of this season was that [TS]

00:45:46   they've tried to slowly step away and [TS]

00:45:48   they just can't do it but I feel like a [TS]

00:45:50   much more adult and reasonable thing for [TS]

00:45:52   Amy and Rory to do this married couple [TS]

00:45:54   who is travelling with the doctor which [TS]

00:45:56   is a rarity right would be for them to [TS]

00:45:58   say you know what its we're done [TS]

00:46:00   we've seen it but we need to get on with [TS]

00:46:02   our lives I think they they can't do [TS]

00:46:04   that though [TS]

00:46:05   more to the point what would have made [TS]

00:46:07   more sense about that is that this [TS]

00:46:09   entire the entire Amy doctor thing is a [TS]

00:46:12   fairytale and like basically the end you [TS]

00:46:15   get like the peter pan thing right like [TS]

00:46:17   I think the nice thing at the end would [TS]

00:46:19   be like it's time for them to grow up [TS]

00:46:20   and have a real life like that would [TS]

00:46:23   have been the way out and that would [TS]

00:46:24   have worked so well with the last scene [TS]

00:46:26   where he goes back and and there's that [TS]

00:46:29   scene from Amy's first episode where [TS]

00:46:31   young Amelia sitting in her backyard [TS]

00:46:34   with her suitcase in the morning and she [TS]

00:46:36   looks and she looks up as if to as if [TS]

00:46:39   she can hear the TARDIS and then in the [TS]

00:46:40   11th hour it cuts to a grownup eh but [TS]

00:46:43   did he actually go back to configure how [TS]

00:46:45   to know the implication in this episode [TS]

00:46:47   is that he goes back and and tells her [TS]

00:46:49   that while she's waiting that she's [TS]

00:46:52   gonna have some great adventures in [TS]

00:46:54   future entire timeline [TS]

00:46:56   no i don't i don't think it necessarily [TS]

00:46:57   does because i believe mom that actually [TS]

00:46:59   was planning that from the beginning but [TS]

00:47:00   um but a it's it's sweet right but but [TS]

00:47:04   you're right then that that would be the [TS]

00:47:06   way to do is like it's time to grow up [TS]

00:47:07   were married you know we've got our [TS]

00:47:09   lovely house with a blue door that you [TS]

00:47:11   bought that you got for us somehow at [TS]

00:47:13   you know and and let's move on does it [TS]

00:47:15   need to be like like with every other [TS]

00:47:19   companion this kind of horrible operatic [TS]

00:47:22   you know high high concept [TS]

00:47:25   goodbye I i we got that with Martha [TS]

00:47:27   Martha Martha essentially did that and [TS]

00:47:29   Martin yeah [TS]

00:47:30   the sarah jane send-off in the david [TS]

00:47:32   tennant you know the sort of last rounds [TS]

00:47:34   I mean she you know she had her life and [TS]

00:47:38   he was saying goodbye to her and she had [TS]

00:47:39   kind of gone on you know shouldn't come [TS]

00:47:40   back with him but they reconnected then [TS]

00:47:42   this appears we've gotten some of that [TS]

00:47:44   but i think the problem is that when [TS]

00:47:45   usually when the something selfless has [TS]

00:47:47   to happen for the for the companion to [TS]

00:47:50   be killed or disappear and it didn't [TS]

00:47:52   happen here was like a mistake it was [TS]

00:47:54   like an air of the doctor screwed up and [TS]

00:47:56   let an angel slept through or whatever [TS]

00:47:57   and so they didn't have which they [TS]

00:47:59   didn't do this to save the world induce [TS]

00:48:01   that the throwing themselves at the [TS]

00:48:03   building saved all those people and [TS]

00:48:04   maybe destroyed the Angels nexus and God [TS]

00:48:07   knows what's important there but this [TS]

00:48:09   one they're like oh it was a mistake and [TS]

00:48:10   now we're both gone [TS]

00:48:12   yeah I say a few words about angels [TS]

00:48:14   before we go yes please [TS]

00:48:16   so the first thing is that i think the [TS]

00:48:18   Angels have become the new Daleks which [TS]

00:48:20   is disappointing it used to be whenever [TS]

00:48:21   they needed to have a big dramatic [TS]

00:48:22   episode that will get the fans excited [TS]

00:48:24   they would pull the Daleks and they did [TS]

00:48:25   that for like five years and now it's [TS]

00:48:27   like all right all right enough for the [TS]

00:48:28   Daleks right by the everyone loves blank [TS]

00:48:30   so then it's like uber now the new tool [TS]

00:48:32   to excite the fanboys to bring back [TS]

00:48:34   angels at so that's problem number one [TS]

00:48:36   with them and problem number two is I [TS]

00:48:38   the angels are a good concept but they [TS]

00:48:42   think they work so well on blink that's [TS]

00:48:43   kind of the same reason that the shark [TS]

00:48:44   work so well in Jaws because they you [TS]

00:48:46   know didn't show it all the time yes and [TS]

00:48:48   now when the angels are constantly being [TS]

00:48:50   show but the big scary fangs mouth like [TS]

00:48:52   you got to save that or not do it don't [TS]

00:48:53   like yeah you have to get them on hidden [TS]

00:48:55   and off-camera and they're just getting [TS]

00:48:56   overused and it's a shame together [TS]

00:48:58   scarier by imagination right like [TS]

00:49:00   there's great when you do have to think [TS]

00:49:01   about it like okay the angels come yeah [TS]

00:49:03   not when I can have it you can have a [TS]

00:49:04   chase scene with angels so much like [TS]

00:49:06   it's not that bad i like well they're [TS]

00:49:09   very fast when you're not looking but I [TS]

00:49:10   i agree with Dan said earlier again I [TS]

00:49:12   said simultaneously that there are when [TS]

00:49:13   they're a force of nature and there are [TS]

00:49:15   aspects of the the time of angels [TS]

00:49:17   episode in Matt Smith's first season [TS]

00:49:19   that I liked in the sense that it was [TS]

00:49:21   still they what they didn't do is send [TS]

00:49:23   people back in time they broke their [TS]

00:49:24   next which was lame because that the [TS]

00:49:26   consumers they send them back in time [TS]

00:49:27   but I did like that that was the you [TS]

00:49:29   know we're in this place where all the [TS]

00:49:30   statues and some of them are angels and [TS]

00:49:32   we don't know which ones they are and [TS]

00:49:34   and and there was some of the creepiness [TS]

00:49:35   there but you're right the more you see [TS]

00:49:37   them the less value they seem to have [TS]

00:49:39   their better when they're this [TS]

00:49:40   completely unthinking essentially just [TS]

00:49:43   they're currently carnivores they touch [TS]

00:49:45   you they want to eat your time energy [TS]

00:49:46   they they're a force of nature [TS]

00:49:48   you can't deal with them you can't [TS]

00:49:50   strategize you just have to survive and [TS]

00:49:53   blink was great at that and the more we [TS]

00:49:56   see them you know this may be true with [TS]

00:49:58   any interest with all these enemies [TS]

00:49:59   right the more you see of them kinda [TS]

00:50:01   more ridiculous they're all the Cyberman [TS]

00:50:02   were ridiculous from the start so at [TS]

00:50:04   least they don't get any worse than just [TS]

00:50:05   a dance and happy haha it's so [TS]

00:50:08   embarrassing the Statue of Liberty thing [TS]

00:50:10   was it was like a turd in the pool it [TS]

00:50:12   was really like is just it was [TS]

00:50:14   ridiculous in the middle of an episode [TS]

00:50:15   that it makes sense anyway you're like [TS]

00:50:17   come on [TS]

00:50:18   I was embarrassed by watching that [TS]

00:50:19   actually there you go you embarrass me [TS]

00:50:22   doctor with your with your statue of [TS]

00:50:23   liberty [TS]

00:50:24   yeah I thought it was a cool idea but [TS]

00:50:27   ridiculous in the premise that if you're [TS]

00:50:29   looking at an angel can move so then the [TS]

00:50:31   special Liberty know what nevermind I [TS]

00:50:33   how did everybody else in this every [TS]

00:50:35   night like it was to get loudly I mean [TS]

00:50:38   we think of a clover so if you want to [TS]

00:50:40   yeah exactly [TS]

00:50:41   well if you wanna if you want to do the [TS]

00:50:43   Statue of Liberty joke right [TS]

00:50:45   think of the end of blink you know it [TS]

00:50:47   why not have it why don't do a thing [TS]

00:50:48   where there's a blackout or or people [TS]

00:50:52   look away and then essentially just gone [TS]

00:50:54   or something I mean it could be a really [TS]

00:50:55   great gag or a blue links you're right [TS]

00:50:58   with like to end music from the link [TS]

00:50:59   place to continue to hold the torch in [TS]

00:51:02   the other hand right that would be funny [TS]

00:51:04   just sort of like clump through the city [TS]

00:51:07   and then growls and make the scary face [TS]

00:51:11   in the background while no one's looking [TS]

00:51:12   at it I have scary face and that I mean [TS]

00:51:15   who you could even have like some kind [TS]

00:51:18   of story where that is the the queen of [TS]

00:51:21   the angels or something in the doctor in [TS]

00:51:23   prisons it there because that's the [TS]

00:51:25   statue that people look at all the [TS]

00:51:26   time's right you'll never guess so it's [TS]

00:51:28   always trapped there I just like I i [TS]

00:51:31   just realized i remembered a moment in [TS]

00:51:33   the last episode that i did like a lot [TS]

00:51:35   so they're in New York modern-day New [TS]

00:51:37   York right now obviously they pay to get [TS]

00:51:39   people there so they have to shoot in [TS]

00:51:41   places in New York that people will [TS]

00:51:43   recognize so for no real reason [TS]

00:51:45   Amy and the doctor have this [TS]

00:51:47   conversation that takes them from [TS]

00:51:48   Central Park Times Square to the george [TS]

00:51:52   washington bridge and as they're talking [TS]

00:51:54   it was like what's happened at the [TS]

00:51:55   doctor says I don't know where New York [TS]

00:51:57   and then they go to pass new york and i [TS]

00:52:00   just thought that was they could think [TS]

00:52:01   because it there's no reason for them to [TS]

00:52:03   be walking around these places they're [TS]

00:52:05   just in New York so they have to [TS]

00:52:06   so so before we go I wanted to at least [TS]

00:52:11   touch on Amy and Rory's characters and [TS]

00:52:15   it since we're saying goodbye to them [TS]

00:52:17   any sort of last thoughts about how [TS]

00:52:19   they're out how you're going to think of [TS]

00:52:22   these characters and and and how you [TS]

00:52:23   think that that the story went I you [TS]

00:52:25   know I ended up liking Rory a lot which [TS]

00:52:29   is surprising that he had he ended up [TS]

00:52:32   being you know a funny you know loyal [TS]

00:52:35   husband to Amy and and honorable and [TS]

00:52:39   always tried he got to get a couple [TS]

00:52:41   scenes of badasses yeah well being a [TS]

00:52:43   sensory and yeah I mean I hehe was much [TS]

00:52:46   more than I thought he would be [TS]

00:52:48   and you know I thought amy was a lot of [TS]

00:52:51   fun that she was capable and sassy and [TS]

00:52:52   and all the things that a Doctor Who [TS]

00:52:54   companion needs to be and she wasn't you [TS]

00:52:56   know wasn't really a screamer and she [TS]

00:52:58   wasn't really after her first sort of [TS]

00:53:01   infatuation with the doctor was not [TS]

00:53:03   mooning over him at all and you know I i [TS]

00:53:07   enjoyed the run with with Amy and Rory I [TS]

00:53:10   thought I thought that for [TS]

00:53:11   two-and-a-half seasons which is actually [TS]

00:53:12   quite a long time in modern Doctor Who [TS]

00:53:13   terms i thought i thought it was a good [TS]

00:53:15   ride and III and honestly i think is [TS]

00:53:18   probably enough and I think it's time [TS]

00:53:19   for something to yeah i agree i really i [TS]

00:53:22   grew up I grew to like them a lot [TS]

00:53:23   I mean I like I thought amy was pretty [TS]

00:53:25   good from the get-go right starts out as [TS]

00:53:26   kind of a wet blanket and they can I [TS]

00:53:28   realize they need to you know give him [TS]

00:53:30   something and I think starting with the [TS]

00:53:31   second matt smith season is any better [TS]

00:53:34   it doesn't much better job yeah and i [TS]

00:53:38   think they give him some really fun [TS]

00:53:39   stuff to do which I enjoy and that the [TS]

00:53:41   dynamic I think Arthur Darvill and and [TS]

00:53:44   karen gillan and end up having really [TS]

00:53:46   great they have really good chemistry [TS]

00:53:47   and I think they clearly really enjoy [TS]

00:53:49   working with each other and with matt [TS]

00:53:50   smith and that shows and I think that [TS]

00:53:52   for me was always the best part of it [TS]

00:53:54   was seeing these these two companions [TS]

00:53:56   who are fairly gift fairly capable and [TS]

00:53:58   fairly used to this idea of traveling [TS]

00:53:59   around the doctor but are there to keep [TS]

00:54:01   them sort of grounded and I think that [TS]

00:54:03   that relationship works really well for [TS]

00:54:04   me and I will be I will miss them all I [TS]

00:54:06   wish there they're ending itself had [TS]

00:54:09   more a little more weight to it i mean [TS]

00:54:10   that to me the gold standard of [TS]

00:54:12   companion leavings was the Donna Noble I [TS]

00:54:15   group with Glenn that one to me is [TS]

00:54:16   always just the most heartbreaking [TS]

00:54:18   yeah and [TS]

00:54:19   I wanted it to be more of that level and [TS]

00:54:21   it wasn't but I as a whole as a run when [TS]

00:54:23   I i really enjoyed them i will be sad to [TS]

00:54:25   see them go but I look forward to seeing [TS]

00:54:27   what's next and hoping that maybe [TS]

00:54:29   freeing us from them will give steven [TS]

00:54:32   moffat a chance to try some new stuff [TS]

00:54:34   and maybe we can get back to some some [TS]

00:54:38   some better better qualities though I [TS]

00:54:41   had to go and watch the opening of [TS]

00:54:43   demons run the other day because I want [TS]

00:54:44   to remember that terrific seen that was [TS]

00:54:46   I thought our Arthur Darvill best moment [TS]

00:54:48   I feel like I wonder if the actor they [TS]

00:54:50   didn't know how entertaining he would be [TS]

00:54:51   with the chemistry be like because [TS]

00:54:52   introduced him instead of passing you [TS]

00:54:54   figure he's the he's the schlemazel he's [TS]

00:54:56   going to gets left off and Amy's gonna [TS]

00:54:58   go off the doctor and will fall in love [TS]

00:55:00   with him again whatever and then you see [TS]

00:55:01   he was so funny and so good and so [TS]

00:55:04   different I feel like they don't know if [TS]

00:55:06   this is true but I feel like they then [TS]

00:55:08   made him have to be better ass and live [TS]

00:55:10   2,000 years and have that memory so that [TS]

00:55:12   opening of demons run where she's [TS]

00:55:14   talking to her melody as a infinite say [TS]

00:55:17   you're you know this man is known across [TS]

00:55:19   the galaxy he lived for hundreds of [TS]

00:55:20   years I know mrs. ensuring your like [TS]

00:55:22   it's pretty funny they're like and then [TS]

00:55:24   he shows up like a message from the [TS]

00:55:26   doctor and a question you know for [TS]

00:55:28   myself and you're like as a great one of [TS]

00:55:30   the best openings of any episode the [TS]

00:55:32   ship's blow up its the siren many like [TS]

00:55:34   the document even involved it was great [TS]

00:55:37   as my Scott melty thing I never warmed [TS]

00:55:40   her re oh never he never wanted me over [TS]

00:55:43   like it's not because the actor the [TS]

00:55:45   actor is great i just think his [TS]

00:55:47   character they never gave him enough [TS]

00:55:48   like its characters more too much of a [TS]

00:55:51   wet dish rack like he had a good noble [TS]

00:55:53   intentions but he just never he never [TS]

00:55:55   asserted himself even when he was [TS]

00:55:58   supposed to be asserting himself like in [TS]

00:55:59   many points in the plot if you were to [TS]

00:56:01   explain the plot here is worried his [TS]

00:56:02   ex-wife's like always totally asserting [TS]

00:56:04   himself but it didn't it didn't play out [TS]

00:56:05   like that site i never warmed to him as [TS]

00:56:08   a character I think he worked in the [TS]

00:56:10   context of the three of them as [TS]

00:56:12   companions like that that trio worked [TS]

00:56:14   but I like Rory is not like oh he's a [TS]

00:56:17   cool guy like Tim like I didn't like his [TS]

00:56:19   character I and Amy I liked Amy i like [TS]

00:56:24   that i like to me the most when she had [TS]

00:56:25   self-doubt that's the Amy character that [TS]

00:56:27   I like like the spunky sassy one I like [TS]

00:56:30   to think that mostly was an act [TS]

00:56:32   and when she started to own that as if [TS]

00:56:34   that's the real her i don't know if i [TS]

00:56:36   was completely earned i really like the [TS]

00:56:38   Amy who really doubts whether she's [TS]

00:56:39   doing the right thing or thought she was [TS]

00:56:41   crazy because you saw the raggedy man [TS]

00:56:42   when she was younger and that are all [TS]

00:56:44   her all her doubt about everything you [TS]

00:56:48   know about what is she doing the right [TS]

00:56:49   thing with her life who should she be [TS]

00:56:51   with should be doing this at all what [TS]

00:56:53   you know that's being with that I like [TS]

00:56:55   so I think she went out just as the last [TS]

00:56:58   ounces of a meself that was being [TS]

00:56:59   squeezed and it's kind of a shame too [TS]

00:57:01   because I felt like I still think back [TS]

00:57:02   to the episode with the old Amy where [TS]

00:57:04   she got left there for 30 years and she [TS]

00:57:06   was all bitter and amy was never given [TS]

00:57:08   those kind of scenes and like it cheats [TS]

00:57:12   stretch yourself and that episode more [TS]

00:57:14   than she did most of the other one so I [TS]

00:57:15   think she's a good actress and I would [TS]

00:57:17   have liked to seen her use a little bit [TS]

00:57:18   better but overall the three of them [TS]

00:57:20   mostly work together as a trio but I'm [TS]

00:57:23   more than ready for them to sail off [TS]

00:57:25   into the sunset [TS]

00:57:26   it's time on a pirate ship haha [TS]

00:57:29   Rory is a dope and that's my main [TS]

00:57:32   problem with him he is just he doesn't [TS]

00:57:34   do much of anything he's just there with [TS]

00:57:38   this rag he is kind of annoying he's [TS]

00:57:41   still annoying he's less annoying now [TS]

00:57:43   that I guess he's dead for the 11-time [TS]

00:57:45   but it's i watch and I never re fans [TS]

00:57:50   still letter or fam and i'm not i'm kind [TS]

00:57:53   of lukewarm with a me too i just i don't [TS]

00:57:55   i don't know i guess they're better [TS]

00:57:56   together you're gonna like the hot new [TS]

00:57:58   chick is replacing them now she's a [TS]

00:58:01   Dalek so maybe that'll be exciting you [TS]

00:58:02   know it's got I'm disappointed hear you [TS]

00:58:04   say that because I I've always thought [TS]

00:58:05   of you as our worry all well I am a dope [TS]

00:58:08   as well maybe that's why don't I just [TS]

00:58:10   like you so I've killed Scott seven [TS]

00:58:12   attack got a certain himself away more [TS]

00:58:14   than Rory ever did and you really live [TS]

00:58:16   in 1938 as well so perfect [TS]

00:58:18   that's true i don't know i just always [TS]

00:58:21   felt like he's kinda just a sad sack but [TS]

00:58:23   he's just kind of tagging along he's the [TS]

00:58:25   third wheel or like it's the fifth wheel [TS]

00:58:27   yes i'm a third wheel is a tricycle so [TS]

00:58:29   that's using your card has no wheels is [TS]

00:58:32   the wheel like his father [TS]

00:58:34   I vote for Rory's father to be the next [TS]

00:58:36   companion i do love his father Royce's [TS]

00:58:38   Royce dad's great instead was great [TS]

00:58:41   yeah so who's gonna tell Rory's a where [TS]

00:58:44   is dead that's what i thought that [TS]

00:58:46   is the part I thought I wanted to see [TS]

00:58:47   that after after the end of the power of [TS]

00:58:49   the right link right I want I want I [TS]

00:58:52   want that blink ending where where where [TS]

00:58:54   Sally Sparrow gets the letter from her [TS]

00:58:57   friend who's been sent back in time I [TS]

00:58:58   wanted that I wanted like river song i [TS]

00:59:00   wanted the doctor to have to go tell him [TS]

00:59:02   like I wanted the doctor to have to look [TS]

00:59:04   them in the face and tell him what [TS]

00:59:05   yeah I kind of screwed up imagine river [TS]

00:59:09   bringing a letter from Amy to her [TS]

00:59:12   parents and and from Rory to Rory's dad [TS]

00:59:15   from the past saying we said we had a [TS]

00:59:18   good life hurts you know that's right [TS]

00:59:19   our parents I had no degree no warrants [TS]

00:59:21   never exist really they do exist they [TS]

00:59:23   got reimagined really existed except [TS]

00:59:26   then they never gets they never get seen [TS]

00:59:39   not that long line yeah it's fine that [TS]

00:59:41   late but I am your granddaughter even [TS]

00:59:43   though it's a good luck isn't yeah now I [TS]

00:59:46   mean I maintain that I would love to [TS]

00:59:47   have seen it seen with the doctor having [TS]

00:59:49   to tell Rory's dad what happened because [TS]

00:59:53   i think that would have had more [TS]

00:59:54   emotional weight to it because we saw [TS]

00:59:56   the previous episode was like take care [TS]

00:59:57   of them and it's like yeah turns out now [TS]

00:59:57   of them and it's like yeah turns out now [TS]

01:00:48   this 5 episode stretch of doctor who is [TS]

01:00:51   disappointing [TS]

01:00:54   that's unfair yeah [TS]

01:00:57   yes bad but fair there's so few they [TS]

01:01:19   is burned out he's got either too much [TS]

01:01:22   going on or he's just not pulling [TS]

01:01:24   together because these feel like drafts [TS]

01:01:27   instead of final shows and they [TS]

01:01:28   shouldn't with with this few episodes [TS]

01:01:30   here let him concentrate on shiraki [TS]
