The Incomparable

309: Boats in Space

the incomparable number 309 july 2016 [TS]

welcome back everybody to the [TS]

uncomfortable it's time for one of our [TS]

  ill-conceived and ridiculous draft [TS]

episodes l conceived not by my panelists [TS]

who i'm sure has been a lot of time [TS]

thinking about this but certainly by me [TS]

i will be just as inconsistent and [TS]

arbitrary as always as the judge of who [TS]

is able to draft what what we're [TS]

drafting in this episode spaceships [TS]

that's it that's all that I've told our [TS]

panelists were drafting spaceships to [TS]

assume i guess we would assume to to [TS]

build a fleet an armada uh collection [TS]

I don't even know what the outcome of [TS]

this is other than to get all the best [TS]

  spaceships for themselves [TS]

join me to draft spaceships are the [TS]

following people Joe rosenstiel hello [TS]

  hello John siracusa hi [TS]

this can only end badly Jason why I [TS]

weights start not certain that hot [TS]

actually so we'll see how bad it gets [TS]

from here also scott multi-class got for [TS]

my first pick i take Jefferson Starship [TS]

all of them there's many questions about [TS]

whether you take can take Jefferson [TS]

Starship also the band starship which is [TS]

an evolution Jefferson story about the [TS]

same starship I don't know when we may [TS]

  find out tonight [TS]

  also I don't think there's a dance [TS]

called the starship thank goodness [TS]

not yet with with the fourth pic you [TS]

  just heard her [TS]

Erica and sign is here hello spaceship [TS]

spaceship spaceship spaceship to you too [TS]

Monty Ashley I Monty hi Jason and chips [TS]

on earth you're gonna take all of mine i [TS]

know it it's probably the case that's [TS]

how drafts work and brian hamilton I've [TS]

got one job in the spaceship [TS]

it's a dumb job i'm gonna do oh you win [TS]

the quote ground and the order in which [TS]

i introduced our panelist is in fact the [TS]

order in which we will draft Joe [TS]

rosenstiel you yourself got the first [TS]

pick in the draft so tell us what [TS]

spaceship would you like to draft and [TS]

why did you choose that spaceship well i [TS]

think that one of the things that's [TS]

probably going to come up at least as we [TS]

continue on past myself it will be a [TS]

star trek and the some of the ships that [TS]

  are there and [TS]

there are a number of ships that have [TS]

been that the feature of many Star Trek [TS]

enterprises and and other various metals [TS]

and so there's one that I want to pick [TS]

for this draft where I was like you know [TS]

it kind of want to live on a ship and [TS]

what's the ship that I really would like [TS]

to exist on where i would feel [TS]

comfortable most of the time and I think [TS]

that would have to be the ncc 1701 d [TS]

galaxy-class Enterprise from Star Trek [TS]

The Next Generation so it's kind of it's [TS]

sort of creature comforts then that are [TS]

driving you to the the enterprise-d [TS]

because it's got like wood accents plush [TS]

  carpeting lots of holiday [TS]

nothing says brave space explorer like a [TS]

hotel in space no ten-forward [TS]

replicators you're all set a barber [TS]

it's true mr. Mott i hope that helped [TS]

the barber doesn't come with the ship [TS]

because I i would just take a pass on [TS]

mr. Mott how dare you come here okay and [TS]

being in that lighting for the rest of [TS]

your life is harsh video lighting it's [TS]

kind of like every room looks the same [TS]

and it's really not flatter fluorescent [TS]

it'sit's pretty ambient and diffuse I'll [TS]

grant you that it'sit's you know but if [TS]

you get tired of it you can just tell [TS]

the computer to turn down the lighting [TS]

and you can go into the holodeck and you [TS]

can be somewhere else if you want to so [TS]

I'm uncomfortable with that are you [TS]

worried at all about the constant [TS]

psychopaths and murderers that the [TS]

holodeck crisp it out i was thinking [TS]

about that but there's it's going to [TS]

probably be a couple other ships that [TS]

other people are going to come across [TS]

and draft in these rounds where it's [TS]

going to be pretty dangerous as well [TS]

because it turns out that sci-fi [TS]

storytelling usually involve some sort [TS]

of drama and action and and jeopardy so [TS]

you got you got you got to pick [TS]

something and i would i would rather go [TS]

with this one because at least you got [TS]

some more comfortable environment than [TS]

then a few of the other enterprises you [TS]

know we encounter at Farpoint the [TS]

holodeck is just like a creek and a like [TS]

a forest and that's perfectly safe until [TS]

data says computer create a frog that I [TS]

can't even defeat and then that is that [TS]

the Frog wins and that's the nog l7 of [TS]

the Frog yeah always that disk you come [TS]

  with the ship [TS]

no no like you you don't want [TS]

him but like you realize you've been [TS]

you've been sold a bill of goods here [TS]

and Q's on board it's possible [TS]

probably not sujini which is cute need [TS]

with a starship apparently a lot of [TS]

  people keep showing up [TS]

I've been on the ship with you you know [TS]

sorry that's some wedding idea they're [TS]

going was on that ship to John siracusa [TS]

it's time for your first round pick of [TS]

  spaceships [TS]

well you know I feel lucky I feel lucky [TS]

that I'm so early in the draft order and [TS]

with such good luck i have to pick the [TS]

appropriate ship based on my good luck [TS]

if you were to see this ship [TS]

you may find yourself thinking what a [TS]

piece of junk mmm compression maybe this [TS]

  one is garbage [TS]

mmm saw me arrive in the ship you say [TS]

you came here and that thing you're [TS]

  braver than I thought [TS]

fast ship you've never heard of the [TS]

Millennium Falcon the ship that made the [TS]

Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs it's [TS]

outrun Imperial starships not the local [TS]

bulk cruisers mind you are talking about [TS]

the big Corellian ships now she may not [TS]

look like much but she's got it where it [TS]

counts kid the Millennium Falcon is my [TS]

number one pick and i can't believe it [TS]

wasn't already chosen two big ones are [TS]

already chosen in the first two rounds [TS]

so where the hell do we go from here [TS]

great now i will add by the way the [TS]

whole thing of like Oh sci-fi stories [TS]

involve danger and you're always in [TS]

danger in this ship the blame Falcon [TS]

danger doesn't seek it out it escapes [TS]

danger it is forever fleeing from danger [TS]

is fleeing from Star Destroyers is [TS]

fleeing from the mouth of a giant [TS]

puppets in an asteroid it's got a nice [TS]

game room where you can battle a little [TS]

floaty ball and play some weird space [TS]

chest thing I it it survives [TS]

miraculously when you think you know it [TS]

should have been blown up but it really [TS]

just got his radar just knocked off and [TS]

it comes out of the flames triumphantly [TS]

the morning Malcolm is a survivor [TS]

well I'll give you that you know it it [TS]

gets out of danger a lot especially as [TS]

long as the hyperdrives working because [TS]

what is not working still survives it's [TS]

not going to blow up all the time like [TS]

the enterprise is Little River [TS]

  hyperdrives not working [TS]

it can make it to another star system [TS]

because an asteroid belt to pass data [TS]

system it so every database now you've [TS]

  got it backwards [TS]

yeah look at that foolish [TS]

ok I i have to say that when I chose [TS]

when I said John it's your pick i just [TS]

started typing Millennium Falcon in my [TS]

spreadsheet possible and I don't [TS]

understand how it wasn't chosen first [TS]

like I'm not the enterprise is great the [TS]

enterprise-d is great you know like good [TS]

ship i'm not going to say anything bad [TS]

by the enterprise except in general tend [TS]

to get blown up a lot but come on the [TS]

Millennium Falcon come on people you [TS]

need hundreds of people to flight [TS]

enterprise DUI seems like you just need [TS]

those people in the room leaning back [TS]

and forth and then I can't really just [TS]

walking down the hallways with [TS]

clipboards everyone else is there for [TS]

ballast it has to be a certain way it's [TS]

a union thing like the unions have [TS]

negotiated how many people have to be on [TS]

the other person flies itself but you [TS]

know we gotta give the human something [TS]

to do and also we have to give mr. Mott [TS]

the barber something to do Scott I [TS]

started ship has already been chosen but [TS]

you make one if you like there are many [TS]

to choose from it's true now my question [TS]

is is its reality versions of the same [TS]

ship that had already taken [TS]

are these still because my choice if [TS]

that is a allowable is from the series [TS]

finale of Star Trek The Next Generation [TS]

the future Enterprise Captain by Admiral [TS]

Riker that has a third nacelle and a [TS]

cloaking device and is far superior in [TS]

every respect to the one that Joe picked [TS]

learned in a Cell i have to say i was i [TS]

was going to go by if it's just a set [TS]

redress it's not enough but the third [TS]

cell is not just a century dress so I'm [TS]

going to give it to you Scott [TS]

take it take it away you get right you [TS]

get Rikers captain so sorry about that [TS]

yeah they made plays Admiral Riker he's [TS]

in the day they added the the little [TS]

cannon thing on the bottom and include [TS]

those little wing things next to the [TS]

  bridge [TS]

yeah for experienced any reasons they [TS]

even let it break the horizontal plane [TS]

in a fight scene see it's true alas that [TS]

future was never to be because the 1701 [TS]

do was destroyed so it's from an [TS]

alternate future timeline where the on [TS]

  71 d survive [TS]

exactly i'm uncomfortable without nerdy [TS]

the spaceship draft is getting yeah well [TS]

it's true we gotta bring it back [TS]

have you met us Saturn 5 somebody pick [TS]

  the 75 quick [TS]

all right Scott I you didn't let me down [TS]

there that was a nerdy star trek pic [TS]

that's what i was looking for from you [TS]

wow ok so Erica you're up i tell me what [TS]

spaceship you'd like to pick huh [TS]

I i heard cannot tell you what a feeling [TS]

of relief I have to get to this point [TS]

and still have the TARDIS on board [TS]

  because you're right [TS]

the TARDIS is no longer on the board it [TS]

  is mine online [TS]

yeah um I mean it's so awesome it not [TS]

only travels through space it travels [TS]

through time it is bigger on the inside [TS]

but if you get bored traveling reaches [TS]

of space you can go through time to even [TS]

  go through atmosphere [TS]

sometimes you can go through a planet [TS]

although that doesn't always work so [TS]

  well it's it's semi-sentient sometimes [TS]

sort of so you can kind of have somebody [TS]

to talk to you know the ship is always [TS]

looking out for you as long as she likes [TS]

you if she doesn't like you then you're [TS]

probably in trouble but i'm very [TS]

confident that the TARDIS would like me [TS]

  just fine [TS]

so yeah i'm i'm pretty excited to be on [TS]

the TARDIS plus it's basically [TS]

infinitely big on the inside so i could [TS]

have like six different bedrooms all [TS]

decorated and completely different ways [TS]

with you know my own library and pretty [TS]

much whatever kind of food I wanted any [TS]

time of the day although mostly it [TS]

apparently comes in bar form but you [TS]

know what it still tastes good [TS]

alright the TARDIS is off the board fair [TS]

  enough [TS]

I I it was inevitable this is what [TS]

happens when I go asking around stupid [TS]

hosting the targets the charges had [TS]

fails at one of the most important [TS]

things of a spaceship getting you where [TS]

you want to go consistently yeah but I [TS]

think that's very good steering at all [TS]

it's another spaceship that may come up [TS]

that has a similar problem with [TS]

navigation but is it really a problem [TS]

because i feel like the TARDIS is taking [TS]

you where you need to be a lot of the [TS]

time like this a reality ship that that [TS]

may be named later mr. and really for me [TS]

that the TARDIS is the destination [TS]

  itself [TS]

wherever I ended up is just that's just [TS]

gravy you're not concerned about getting [TS]

lost inside your own ship like the idea [TS]

that you own this thing [TS]

ostensibly but you have no idea what the [TS]

extent of the interior is and it's [TS]

possible to get lost or entire episodes [TS]

it seems kinda parts for example [TS]

yeah that's just that adds to the the [TS]

spice that the flavor little excitement [TS]

to life the swimming pool [TS]

it's a could be anywhere [TS]

all right Monty what's your spaceship [TS]

choice my first pick sensible spaceships [TS]

have all been taken so I'm going to have [TS]

to push the bounds a little with the [TS]

satellite of love I'll come haha my list [TS]

up on my list too [TS]

it comes complete with hundreds of [TS]

  movies also robot pals [TS]

yes made out of the parts they let you [TS]

start and stop the music movies [TS]

unfortunately so you lost the remote big [TS]

deal and if the satellite of love is [TS]

  part of my fleet [TS]

I no longer have to worry about how I [TS]

eat or breathe so with the mundane [TS]

worries of life behind me I can stroll [TS]

forward into a glorious life of watching [TS]

movies with robots and isn't that really [TS]

the dream I saw it really is [TS]

I've never to the geography of the ship [TS]

on one end is where they do all the [TS]

skits and everything and ran at [TS]

somewhere else on the ship is a much [TS]

much bigger area where there's the [TS]

screen even though the two ends of the [TS]

ship at the same size I've never [TS]

understood that they only look the same [TS]

  size that's for shortly [TS]

  I that's right perspective it's like [TS]

it's like The Hobbit but I mean they go [TS]

they go through that a shoebox to get to [TS]

the movie theater right haha yeah [TS]

cardboard doors that go up we assume [TS]

that's going all the way down the ship [TS]

that may not be and there's more rooms [TS]

than we see like each of the robots as a [TS]

bedroom and there's a whole bunch of [TS]

other stuff that you is in the mst3k [TS]

movie so we know I've got a library to [TS]

it is a giant hamster wheel you can run [TS]

  on [TS]

yeah you you'll stay fit forever stay [TS]

  fit [TS]

  [Music] [TS]

alright the satellite of love from mr. [TS]

sense their 3000th is now on the board [TS]

  ship it's your turn [TS]

while the good stuff is already gone [TS]

what do you like sorry chap yeah yeah [TS]

I'm very unhappy with you Erykah i was [TS]

tempted to select the Masters TARDIS [TS]

which is basically everything Erika said [TS]

plus it's actually got a working [TS]

chameleon circuit and usually goes where [TS]

  you want it to [TS]

yeah yeah that too but the great cooking [TS]

TV show legend Alton Brown has always [TS]

weighed in against unit asker's things [TS]

that can all are only good as one thing [TS]

  only [TS]

have one purpose i do have some unit [TS]

asker's on my list but i'm going to open [TS]

with a spaceship that is not only a [TS]

spaceship but it is also a robot and on [TS]

top of that it is also one heck of a [TS]

  really big gun [TS]

I speak of course of the Macross sdf-1 [TS]

the giant space battle fortress that is [TS]

at the heart of the television series [TS]

the japanese animated animated series a [TS]

super dimension fortress macross also [TS]

known in us as the first half off [TS]

robotech this is a giant this is a giant [TS]

  space battleship that reconfigures [TS]

itself to fire it's a big huge stonking [TS]

main gun to destroy hundreds and [TS]

hundreds of ships in a single blast [TS]

because when they use the hyperdrive the [TS]

first time one of the components [TS]

disappeared and they had to reconfigure [TS]

it to change it change it and it just [TS]

happens to look like a giant robot when [TS]

it's all said and done it one that has [TS]

aircraft carriers forearms the ship [TS]

spends a lot of time as a big statue [TS]

though how do you feel about that you [TS]

know it takes away from the sort of [TS]

spaceship pride it does does do a lot of [TS]

space ship stuff it has space bottles [TS]

but for a long time is like a statue in [TS]

the park for pigeons to to respond i [TS]

think that gives its style points does [TS]

it need pride when it can blow you up [TS]

  John [TS]

I always thought that this one tends to [TS]

kind of get blown up a little bit too [TS]

sometime you know it goes out in a blaze [TS]

of glory sir the the Macross sdf-1 [TS]

alright it is a spaceship and it is well [TS]

it looks like a robot John might argue [TS]

about the weather it is is your space [TS]

  Fletcher space it's a spaceship I'm [TS]

let's not talk about whether it's a [TS]

robot or not that's don't like Ali ok so [TS]

Brian it's your turn for your [TS]

first-round pick what do you have [TS]

well i would like to open by cursing [TS]

Monty for taking my number one pick back [TS]

yeah i would also drafting a ok [TS]

God the draft the draft so my first pick [TS]

is going to be from the sci-fi series [TS]

the expanse and first appearing in [TS]

Leviathan wakes former mcrn ship the [TS]

Rocinante commandeered by james holden [TS]

and his lovely crew of complete rates [TS]

bringing them on adventures all [TS]

throughout the galaxy for higher doing [TS]

whatever they want drinking all over [TS]

Fred Johnson station and all these other [TS]

wonderful things taking them all the way [TS]

out into the expanse if you read that [TS]

  far [TS]

the other reason this shit means so much [TS]

to me because I lived for six months in [TS]

brooklyn in a a room that I could not [TS]

stand up in it barely fit my bed and as [TS]

that I was going through the expanse [TS]

audiobooks I got through that relatively [TS]

difficult living situation by imagining [TS]

i was on a spaceship as the reason Dante [TS]

and pretending that the confined [TS]

quarters i was living in was a necessity [TS]

of the ship flying through space and not [TS]

having to take up that much space so for [TS]

me the rosin on today as well as being a [TS]

kick-ass ship is meaningful to me in [TS]

that way as well there wasn't a you know [TS]

you can pick something with like room [TS]

  right [TS]

I could but you know the common areas [TS]

have some leg room but the the I i had [TS]

this on my list too i think i think the [TS]

restaurant is one of the stars of those [TS]

of those books I like that it's [TS]

secondhand that they basically end up [TS]

with a Martian Navy ship and they're [TS]

like yeah this is gonna be ours now and [TS]

they make it there is occasionally they [TS]

stick things on the outside of it to [TS]

make it look like it's some other ship [TS]

it's not it's the Rocinante and it [TS]

serves the well and and it is definitely [TS]

one of the characters along with all the [TS]

people in the book the Rocinante always [TS]

a character in that in a book series and [TS]

fun to see it portrayed on TV too [TS]

I think that's a great pic front and one [TS]

of my favorite subplots and the in the [TS]

books is at one point the mcrn threatens [TS]

to take it back and you know looters [TS]

writes everything comes into it i [TS]

thought that was really fascinating [TS]

because hey it's their ship now they [TS]

really come to only even though it is [TS]

once the Martian fleets put a lot of [TS]

money into that ship they want to give [TS]

  it back now [TS]

  now of course not [TS]

at least several more books all right [TS]

  there isn't a from the expanse it's a [TS]

  good pic good pick [TS]

alright so I in what will probably be a [TS]

surprise no one's inside the last pic of [TS]

them this round i am going to pick the [TS]

  ncc 1701 no bloody a B C or D the [TS]

original series Star Trek Enterprise [TS]

when I was a kid we went to the air and [TS]

space museum and I saw the original Star [TS]

Trek model of the enterprise hanging in [TS]

a like a doorway basically and I [TS]

remember that that I that number i must [TS]

have been like seven years old I [TS]

remember that clearly they recently [TS]

refurbished model and it's now on [TS]

display when they got it they were like [TS]

what is this it's a TV model they just [TS]

kind of hung it somewhere and forgot [TS]

about it and now they restored it [TS]

it's now on display they put like new [TS]

like LED lights him because the old [TS]

lights would probably set it on fire [TS]

eventually and it's kind of great that [TS]

it's there but my point is I don't [TS]

remember anything else from the air and [TS]

space museum except the enterprise all [TS]

the real space ships and other amazing [TS]

aeronautics and astronautics craft that [TS]

is the enterprise from Star Trek and i [TS]

love that ship loved it since I was a [TS]

little kid and I will always love it [TS]

no holodecks i would say that's a [TS]

feature food slots are available to give [TS]

you chicken sandwiches coffee and [TS]

meatloaf from time to time if you if you [TS]

would like them they're Jeffries two [TS]

tubes to crawl in ample number of [TS]

transporter rooms available some sweet a [TS]

sweet shuttlecraft in the down in the [TS]

shuttlebay if you like to go down there [TS]

and you know other other stuff [TS]

what more what more do you want there's [TS]

a there's a rec room too I here so the [TS]

enterprise 1701 is my three-dimensional [TS]

  chess set [TS]

yeah oh yeah sure there's lots of games [TS]

there's lots of games there's some [TS]

there's some musical instruments you can [TS]

jam out with space hippies if you want [TS]

to sure no bathrooms right there are [TS]

there are not as many as there should be [TS]

but they are available just off-camera [TS]

open for those who need them also the [TS]

sound effects are great lots of boobs [TS]

and beeps which is a and want to switch [TS]

is lots of physical switches which as we [TS]

know from any tech podcast that will [TS]

tell us this having fit physical [TS]

switches when you're when you're driving [TS]

is way better than having a touchscreen [TS]

be nice if they were labeled [TS]

the color labels from red or blue or [TS]

blue switch the blue and you also get a [TS]

floppy disks that you can you can take [TS]

around the the data tapes and tapes to [TS]

queue up the shower and then we can hand [TS]

  you a clipboard [TS]

I'm not you can you can look at the log [TS]

and you're here to my pad of paper cup [TS]

yeah salads salad home and salads to [TS]

write yet well on the enterprise 1701 [TS]

try the salad bar try recommend it and [TS]

so does dr. McCoy so there that's my pic [TS]

now before we go to round 2 [TS]

let's do an ad how about that i want to [TS]

tell you about zombies run the virtual [TS]

zombies virtual raise dot-com and use [TS]

coupon code incomparable to get five [TS]

dollars off your entry thanks to zombies [TS]

run the virtual race for sponsoring the [TS]

incomparable we have selected spaceships [TS]

so I guess we're done now let's do it [TS]

again Joe what's another spaceship that [TS]

you would like to select well I'm kind [TS]

of surprised and go in the first round [TS]

so I feel like I gotta take it now and [TS]

that's the bird-of-prey now there are [TS]

many to choose from because it's been [TS]

featured a bunch of times since the [TS]

original incarnation but I don't like [TS]

  the bridge [TS]

and the original incarnation in star [TS]

trek 3 because they were used to set [TS]

from some other movie and then sex [TS]

sandwich boxes on the wall so I'm gonna [TS]

go with the redress of the star trek for [TS]

bridge of the redress of the star trek 5 [TS]

bridge of the redress of Star Trek six [TS]

bridge over the redress the generations [TS]

bridge which is eventually the IKS [TS]

retire in general Martok ship in deep [TS]

space nine so it's got all the [TS]

advantages of a nice clean updated [TS]

  interior even though it's a 200 [TS]

something year old ship and it's a it's [TS]

got that cool Klingon stylin on the [TS]

  outside and cloaking device [TS]

the Klingons don't waste ship designs [TS]

they just keep them going for a long [TS]

time I really gotta write the first yeah [TS]

it's kinda like it you can top it [TS]

yeah you know that the history of the [TS]

  Klingon bird-of-prey is confusing [TS]

  because I I think didn't wasn't [TS]

originally like the Romulans have the [TS]

bird-of-prey but then they'd like they [TS]

had they had that they couldn't afford [TS]

new models so then every day they said [TS]

well the Klingons Romulans totally share [TS]

ships that's what they do they totally [TS]

do that and then it became this thing [TS]

but with Star Trek and Star Trek three [TS]

the bird-of-prey really became a [TS]

character and then we saw it again and [TS]

again after that after it was in star [TS]

trek 3 even though there were sandwich [TS]

but yes because it be at the first time [TS]

they hinted at the technology swap was [TS]

enterprise incident where they wanted to [TS]

use the Klingon models right of the [TS]

Romulan models for third season star [TS]

trek oh all the Romulans had a Klingon [TS]

ships an important plot development and [TS]

it wasn't but they had a model they [TS]

could tell you but the that eventually [TS]

in the story there is going to take this [TS]

whole convoluted thing about how crude [TS]

was going to steal a Romulan [TS]

bird-of-prey so they could go to this [TS]

mission but they're just like we don't [TS]

need any of that so it's just a Klingon [TS]

bird-of-prey now yeah and and i think it [TS]

works out fine because it looks looks [TS]

  cool [TS]

hey there's a whole star trek movie [TS]

where all of the principles are flying [TS]

in a in that ship right i mean that that [TS]

Star Trek for they don't have an [TS]

enterprise they have a Klingon [TS]

bird-of-prey and they do just fine [TS]

they remember where they Park the park [TS]

in san francisco to get back to it later [TS]

it's got a cloaking device is very [TS]

useful right well I still think they [TS]

smell oh they must smell [TS]

well the Klingon food packs give us our [TS]

rating system how what'd that their [TS]

targets running around on those things [TS]

it's called space ism I see your face [TS]

races if it doesn't like a steaming pile [TS]

of target poop anyway John syracuse tell [TS]

your next what do you have so I know [TS]

earlier I made some comments about other [TS]

people think spaceships that have a bad [TS]

habit of blowing up but i'm going to [TS]

make an exception for my next pick my [TS]

second thing I choose the Death Star [TS]

yeah its normal wars which it is not a [TS]

moon they can hold a space station but [TS]

really it's a spaceship it flies around [TS]

it has very variable speed seemingly you [TS]

can go from star system to star system [TS]

but then takes a long time to do orbital [TS]

insertion around another planet but [TS]

specifically since you're doing all this [TS]

business with picking every single [TS]

enterprise with a different letter after [TS]

the name i'm actually picking the death [TS]

star to the unfinished one from Return [TS]

of the Jedi for a couple of reasons [TS]

fully functional right or fully [TS]

  operational [TS]

so first of all it is fully operational [TS]

was just despite the appearance the [TS]

second of all it is more powerful than [TS]

the original but John the death star one [TS]

actually blow up planets just start to [TS]

never blew up any planet well we'll [TS]

listen listen the first one could be [TS]

killed with a single shot from the [TS]

outside the second one requires [TS]

incredible piloting skill to get to the [TS]

middle of it through a very winding [TS]

passages with lots of tubes and pipes [TS]

and everything and then multiple ships [TS]

have to make the middle and blow it up [TS]

and then have to get out alive it's much [TS]

harder I mean you can't have guests are [TS]

easy to blow up like oh you should have [TS]

better defenses they worked on it they [TS]

improved it you know is pretty good for [TS]

  a second attempt [TS]

I also think it looks cooler than the [TS]

other one and it's got a cool dark [TS]

throne room where I can see them they [TS]

like the big Emperor chair and like [TS]

cackling look out the big spider web [TS]

window it's pretty nice right to the [TS]

point where it goes up but it would be [TS]

  worth it [TS]

yeah i mean eat you have to have like an [TS]

army of teddy bears to take that thing [TS]

down because it has a has a totally [TS]

impenetrable shield except that one [TS]

  minor little flaw [TS]

that's right you knew the teddy bears to [TS]

to even get to the point where you're [TS]

skilled pilots could fly through the the [TS]

all the pipes and tubes and everything [TS]

so it's much harder to kill them [TS]

the first one well I had the death star [TS]

on my list too i think it is a classic [TS]

iconic space you know spaceship space [TS]

station whatever it may be it is it is [TS]

iconic and and and what we the question [TS]

we all still have to ask though is why [TS]

just the Death Star have a whole we may [TS]

  never know [TS]

anyway skype it's time for your choice [TS]

what do you have for well I am tempted [TS]

to pick a different Klingon bird-of-prey [TS]

also save everything has been altered an [TS]

  alternate version of something [TS]

previously pick that wouldn't be like [TS]

  you at all [TS]

no because I do have on my list of very [TS]

specific bird of prey but i will pick [TS]

something that the first time you see it [TS]

it is shocking and to all star trek fans [TS]

it is don't you doing don't you do a a [TS]

ominous box of cybernetic adminius i'm [TS]

picking the Borg cube which says hey [TS]

  we're in space [TS]

why do we need to be aerodynamic [TS]

s-tronic you be done with it later on [TS]

we'll have a sphere it'll be fine and we [TS]

like our geometry and so and the first [TS]

time I saw its in the the next [TS]

generation episode I was just like what [TS]

  the heck is that [TS]

that looks unlike any spaceship i have [TS]

  ever seen [TS]

although very similar to d6 so I felt a [TS]

kinship to it so the Borg cube your [TS]

  biological and technological [TS]

  distinctiveness will service the [TS]

collective I don't you have to be a Borg [TS]

if this is on your team I am the board [TS]

king missile or there's like others [TS]

Nick there's no viruses and things like [TS]

that the Borg cube that is uh I remember [TS]

seeing that in the wake you who episode [TS]

and thinking what a great idea like it [TS]

it's so alien in that it doesn't have [TS]

any of the aerodynamics that they always [TS]

designed ships unnecessarily in sci-fi [TS]

movies and TV shows and it was on my [TS]

list too i think that's a great choice I [TS]

I i I'll always have liked the board [TS]

cube the Borg sphere which can be [TS]

ejected from a board cube an interesting [TS]

wrinkle but you gotta go classic I think [TS]

with the board decision that the power [TS]

mac g4 cube is off the table or twisting [TS]

takes only if it flew in space Brian but [TS]

  then then [TS]

let me handle it's also not actually [TS]

cube shape so yeah even I was able to [TS]

  put shape-wise it's true [TS]

beta Scott are you picking the the one [TS]

from first contact are you picking the [TS]

one from the battle wolf 359 or are you [TS]

packing picking the original key one I [TS]

think I'll go with the original q Who [TS]

when I do like the first contact cubes [TS]

they they look a little spiffier i will [TS]

admit but we have to keep it classic i [TS]

think i think im gonna grant Scott the [TS]

entire board cube class as a yes [TS]

nobody pick extra board cubes were just [TS]

they look the same come on oh speaking [TS]

of racism okay Erica what we only had a [TS]

lot of Star Trek and Star Wars here help [TS]

us out I bet you've got something else [TS]

please Ben I do all right yes you're [TS]

talking about aerodynamic I'm gonna pay [TS]

ship that's not particularly aerodynamic [TS]

but it is it is a hearty ship that can [TS]

run almost forever and that would be the [TS]

Jupiter Mining Corporation ship Red [TS]

Dwarf it it looks kinda weird it's got [TS]

some asteroid sort of attached to its [TS]

sides because its mining I feel like [TS]

this important for my fleet to be able [TS]

to get some raw materials when I need [TS]

them to a brain with red dwarf and yeah [TS]

the weird scoop looking thing on the [TS]

front that doesn't look like it could [TS]

actually scoop up anything that is [TS]

scooping up hydrogen i think it is so [TS]

that it can just keep keep going forever [TS]

so look at the beginning of the show red [TS]

dwarf it's it's been going for three [TS]

million years already and obviously [TS]

needs very little maintenance because at [TS]

that point all has are a few scholars [TS]

which are pretty much crap at everything [TS]

oh when it comes right down to it plus [TS]

you get you get some some fun companions [TS]

to travel around with when i when i get [TS]

bored of the doctors wackiness and the [TS]

TARDIS i can go and have some completely [TS]

different wackiness and I know that [TS]

Crichton will always be there to do my [TS]

laundry so basically all of my chores [TS]

are done i mean i could actually just [TS]

pop them over to the TARDIS from time to [TS]

time and have him clean my rooms there [TS]

it would be really wonderful and you [TS]

know I could always have a list or make [TS]

me curry anytime I wanted it and yeah [TS]

then that would have to avoid the cat [TS]

most of the time because god that would [TS]

  be so annoying [TS]

and do and then we'd have rumor who's my [TS]

  favorite [TS]

oh yes yea TX pressure is off he's a [TS]

hologram hardlight hologram a hard light [TS]

  hologram is totally different [TS]

yep just like the just like the whatsits [TS]

the doctor from Star Trek Voyager [TS]

hardline Holograms when the hologram not [TS]

a hologram never it's always a hologram [TS]

is the end of the day [TS]

whoa don't expect to that situation [TS]

there's a light beyond ok the red dwarf [TS]

that's a gut that's a great one we were [TS]

just talking about red dwarf and look [TS]

here it is in the draft amazing [TS]

Monty what do you have um a variety of [TS]

questionable choices that sums up your [TS]

life and i'm going to go to the world of [TS]

literature IEP goals literature i'm [TS]

going to pick Dora who is Lazarus long [TS]

  ship [TS]

Wow from the books time enough for love [TS]

and the number of the beast and I think [TS]

to sail beyond the sunset although i [TS]

can't remember whether she actually [TS]

appears in that she's a ship designed [TS]

for luxury which I like very much and [TS]

also she has a sassy personality [TS]

built-in not your Hal 9000 personalities [TS]

that tried to kill you but just enough [TS]

personality to harass Lazarus and tell [TS]

them what is being done [TS]

alright i have I don't know if i've read [TS]

any of those books i would recommend [TS]

  time enough for love [TS]

all right but not number of the beast [TS]

really like number of the beast [TS]

hardly anybody else does haha i say [TS]

alright what wondered what else do we [TS]

know about day so it's Dora the ship or [TS]

the or the intelligence are they kind of [TS]

intertwined they are intertwined um if [TS]

you like you can pretend that Dora is [TS]

piloting the ship but actually Lazarus [TS]

does a lot of the piloting and it seems [TS]

like dora is just there to keep him [TS]

  company [TS]

Dora conceives of herself as the ship i [TS]

think at some point she gets downloaded [TS]

into a body and to sail beyond the [TS]

sunset or something that doesn't matter [TS]

does she do a lot of exploring in [TS]

principle yes she does library no [TS]

swiping and she never has to check a map [TS]

  so don't say map [TS]

okay chip what's your choice i'm going [TS]

to go with the Cheyenne dropship from [TS]

  aliens [TS]

this is not the silica which is a very [TS]

impressive looking ship but it is what [TS]

  the [TS]

Marines used to get down to the planet [TS]

and there is just something so cool [TS]

  about an entirely aerodynamically [TS]

impossible badass helicopter in space [TS]

basically that has fold-out wings that [TS]

fold out when it's flying through the [TS]

atmosphere and it would just sheer off [TS]

and just die everywhere but that scene [TS]

is so cool in the movie and that ship [TS]

just really sells the whole of the whole [TS]

Marines in space kind of thing [TS]

the fact that it is so cool you have to [TS]

wear raybans to be its pilot in the end [TS]

  then the far-off future it's it's it's [TS]

one of those moments in that movie that [TS]

possibly left too big a mark on young [TS]

dateless males of my generation who [TS]

watched this movie and got all kinds of [TS]

bad ideas about what it was like to be [TS]

in the military in science fiction [TS]

stories but the Cheyenne dropship it [TS]

just looks so damn cool and put a heck [TS]

  of a ride [TS]

somebody wake up pics very nice very [TS]

  nice reference [TS]

alright Brian its to you what do you [TS]

  have for us [TS]

I would like if I may oh this was a list [TS]

on a strange journey after a night of [TS]

debauchery and singing and dancing and a [TS]

weird sci-fi monster that comes to life [TS]

somehow through the magic of watercolor [TS]

paints the castle in the 1975 movie The [TS]

Rocky Horror Picture Show that takes off [TS]

from Planet Earth and flies back through [TS]

space and the hacks even through time [TS]

itself back to the galaxy of transsexual [TS]

in the planet Transylvania there you [TS]

have it the rocky horror picture show [TS]

  castle [TS]

Wow three spaces draft is over he just [TS]

wanted money you said you had that you [TS]

were you planning that one too [TS]

that's what I couldn't decide on how uh [TS]

  huh [TS]

that is amazing Brian I that okay yes [TS]

you get a gold star for that one [TS]

  completely unexpected [TS]

  now it bothers me [TS]

that there isn't a floor anymore because [TS]

bread and gender left on the ground [TS]

which I think means they just took off [TS]

without the foundation no no they [TS]

escaped the mansion they get out of them [TS]

and dr. Scott scuttle off onto the lawn [TS]

and I guessing the propellers in the [TS]

wrong word a turban whatever jetfire [TS]

spouts below the mansion scorch them and [TS]

then they sing one last song all [TS]

  together about superiors ok [TS]

excuse me so many times nothing you [TS]

haven't Monty I know you have but [TS]

believe me it's not pay attention after [TS]

  a while [TS]

okay i'm going to with my with my pic at [TS]

the 10 the second round of our spaceship [TS]

draft i am going to pick something from [TS]

Babylon 5 because I feel like Babylon 5 [TS]

spaceship designs are not as appreciated [TS]

as they should be up in particular one [TS]

of my favorite sci-fi TV spaceship [TS]

designs ever is the minbari war Cruiser [TS]

their kind of look cross that off my [TS]

later kind of blue there really tall and [TS]

thin air like a tropical fish and I [TS]

think it's a really great design like it [TS]

there this we see so many spaceship [TS]

designs that are horizontal or or that [TS]

that that run lengthwise and these are [TS]

tall narrow ships when they fly around i [TS]

mean i know there are no directions in [TS]

space but the way that everything is [TS]

shot and oriented you don't see them as [TS]

like flying saucer-like things they're [TS]

these things that look like blue bright [TS]

tropical fish flying through space [TS]

blowing things up saving the day come [TS]

and piloted by aliens with big bones [TS]

coming out of their heads just as a [TS]

  bonus [TS]

there's places you can sleep although [TS]

you may have to sleep at an angle the [TS]

bridges cut bridges are comfortable [TS]

there are lots of places you can you can [TS]

hang out with with minbari they're very [TS]

  interesting conversationalist [TS]

but really it's for the outside look at [TS]

it it looks unlike any other TV or movie [TS]

spaceship i can think of and I every [TS]

time I see them on Babylon 5 [TS]

I love them and a little honorable [TS]

mention for there's an episode where we [TS]

see a previous generation of minbari war [TS]

  cruisers and there [TS]

and they're visibly older and they're [TS]

all kind of rounded and there's very [TS]

clearly the same style but older and I [TS]

thought that was a beautiful piece of of [TS]

art direction as well so but i'm picking [TS]

the the modern by Babylon 5 terms [TS]

minbari war Cruiser they're so pretty [TS]

they also pack a real punch too i mean [TS]

if you want like pure destructive power [TS]

that's that's a good way to go [TS]

they're going to take over the earth I [TS]

mean right up until they surrender for [TS]

other reasons they're gonna go all the [TS]

way to earth and and defeat the the [TS]

earth in the earth-minbari war and then [TS]

they don't easily like through tissue [TS]

paper and they're silent but deadly [TS]

they are silent but deadly it's true and [TS]

there's there are some key scenes where [TS]

minbari war cruisers appear in Babylon 5 [TS]

and you just kind of want to stand up [TS]

and Cheer because it's like yeah the [TS]

fish have come the space fish are here [TS]

  to save everyone [TS]

it's the best alright so that's my [TS]

that's my Babylon 5 pick their okay we [TS]

are at the third round we're making good [TS]

time here Joe give us another spaceship [TS]

ok this one's tough there's a lot of [TS]

directions to go now because the things [TS]

that I feel super strongly about are [TS]

mostly taken care of but I i kinda want [TS]

to make sure that nobody takes this one [TS]

and I'm a little worried based on a [TS]

reference someone made at the beginning [TS]

of the recording that somebody well so [TS]

i'm gonna pick the NSE a protector know [TS]

it's on my list all it's on my list [TS]

yes gotcha Brian now better idea [TS]

the NSA protector is from one of my [TS]

favorite films and I love watching [TS]

galaxy quest it has a minor blemishes [TS]

from leaving drydock yeah it it it is an [TS]

interesting ship design and that its [TS]

star trekky without necessarily being of [TS]

Star Trek and it is a guided cool little [TS]

bridge that pops off for reasons [TS]

Capcom into it also has the Omega 13 [TS]

just in case you know you make a mistake [TS]

you ever cook your pasta you need to [TS]

make sure that you don't have somebody [TS]

  died [TS]

don't forget my job person it's also got [TS]

the choppers well I'm not really [TS]

planning on forgot my self-destruct [TS]

no yeah but but hopefully you know the [TS]

checksums will remain valid and I wanted [TS]

to worry about that but the the ship's [TS]

it's fun it's a lot of fun i love it so [TS]

i'm gonna i'm picking that one it kind [TS]

of looks like a horseshoe good [TS]

I like everything about that ship is [TS]

that at the end of the movie when [TS]

they're frantically racing through we no [TS]

one knows how the ship works because [TS]

they're all actors so they had to radio [TS]

back to earth to get someone who [TS]

actually knows to get just a long shelf [TS]

from yeah it's one of my favorite little [TS]

plot to assume movie when they're able [TS]

to get a fan to be able to help them out [TS]

that way and it works really well that's [TS]

why it was on my list [TS]

that's why we all have the technical [TS]

manual for Star Trek or Star Wars when [TS]

we were kids righteous because in case [TS]

we were we need to be like Justin Long [TS]

galaxy quest and help out [TS]

ok John there's a lot of really good [TS]

Star Wars stuff still out there I'm kind [TS]

of shocked i almost picked a star wars [TS]

thing last round I decided you know [TS]

John's probably gonna pick all the Star [TS]

Wars thing so I I you meetin you know [TS]

are you picking a star wars thing or [TS]

have I just steered you wrong [TS]

that's one possible strategy I had I [TS]

realized I could just pick Star Wars [TS]

things for the entire graph but i [TS]

decided i wanted to mix it up jumping [TS]

I'm jumping some ships in my order here [TS]

because I mean now that I'm looking over [TS]

this list it's really kind of honored i [TS]

want to pull something up from the [TS]

bottom up the top not because i think [TS]

other people will get it but just [TS]

because i don't know how many rounds [TS]

will go and i think this the ship [TS]

  deserves it [TS]

this is the jewel of the Star League the [TS]

gun star Starfighter yeah this was a [TS]

very interesting shift is on very [TS]

dragard very interesting mix of typical [TS]

sci-fi ship with just enough of NASA [TS]

thrown in to make you believe that [TS]

really the star league is out there and [TS]

they're playing video games maybe an [TS]

audition to you about this thing and [TS]

this thing about it they spend a lot of [TS]

time in this ship like that it's not [TS]

easy to pull you have to learn how to do [TS]

it you have to go through training both [TS]

on the ground and in the ship and it's [TS]

got your cool you got your copilot your [TS]

lizard guy behind you that's cool it's [TS]

got your cool secret weapon with the [TS]

death blossoms which is just like a [TS]

little extra thing that you weren't [TS]

aware that your ship has experimental [TS]

might not work you know it's kind of [TS]

silly in action but you know but now I [TS]

just think it looks super cool and I [TS]

really hope they remake this movie at [TS]

some point because what they did with [TS]

this ship and limited or no texture [TS]

  mapping and [TS]

  incredibly time-consuming rendering was [TS]

amazing and it really dazzled me in a [TS]

similar way the star wars dazzle me like [TS]

you know in that I knew this you know [TS]

that they were doing this in computers [TS]

and it was impressive and i really like [TS]

it's super cool that ship violated [TS]

gloriously every possible law of physics [TS]

stuff physics in space is works [TS]

I'm led to believe it it would've shaken [TS]

itself apart it would have blown itself [TS]

apart i love that thing so much god John [TS]

  I hate you [TS]

that's why we do drafts for people to [TS]

mad when people take other peoples of [TS]

spaceships you should have got a higher [TS]

score in that game machine and maybe you [TS]

can be yours all right Scott John has [TS]

steered away from star wars are you [TS]

going to pick another ship from Star [TS]

Trek well I i have one star wars ship on [TS]

my list uh but I'm not gonna pick it up [TS]

uh-huh yet i'm going to keep it close to [TS]

my heart for some reason i will pick i [TS]

will i will also i'll join Monty and [TS]

jump into literature and pick a ship [TS]

from a series of books so I en mi your [TS]

  sniping mihiro go ahead [TS]

  well i don't i don't know which one [TS]

you're gonna pick because there are a [TS]

lot of ships in the culture the culture [TS]

has a the culture series is one of the [TS]

things that it's known for is a the [TS]

interesting names for many of the ships [TS]

and in many of the books ships are in [TS]

fact characters because they all have [TS]

mines at least one of them some of them [TS]

have three or four of them they control [TS]

the aspects of their their functions the [TS]

ship's very a wide range of sizes there [TS]

are ships that have millions of people [TS]

that are on them to tiny little ships [TS]

that have no people on them i am picking [TS]

a medium systems vehicle which is the [TS]

second largest the largest is the [TS]

general set systems via vehicles i'm [TS]

sure everyone knows it is called a fine [TS]

disregard for awkward facts and it [TS]

appears in the novel the hydrogen Sonata [TS]

which is of a fine book so everyone [TS]

  should be used [TS]

and then that is my my pic just because [TS]

i like the name i was going to I had on [TS]

my list i won't pick now since since you [TS]

picked that I had a UI the GSV on my [TS]

list because i think the GSV itself is [TS]

such a fascinating shipped a lot of [TS]

great space ships in the culture but gsv [TS]

is that have like billions of people [TS]

living on the middle like planets that [TS]

fly around in space or any emotion of [TS]

mining craziness haha in banks look at [TS]

that well I'm glad that you went to [TS]

literature somebody had to Erica what [TS]

would you like to pick next [TS]

I've been debating going toward another [TS]

property that i feel very strongly about [TS]

but I think my next pic just has to be [TS]

based on the ship itself and how freakin [TS]

cool i think the ship is and i'm [TS]

sticking in the red dwarf universe [TS]

because in my favorite episode of red [TS]

dwarf hollow ship there is a sweet ship [TS]

called the enlightenment which is a [TS]

hologram attic ship it doesn't have any [TS]

mass or volume it is apparently composed [TS]

entirely of tachyons and it has the [TS]

ability to travel many multiples of the [TS]

speed of light can make wormholes [TS]

instantaneously take you from point to [TS]

point and they are only allowed to have [TS]

a crew of two thousand all Holograms so [TS]

I feel like this is sort of my [TS]

retirement policy when whenever one of [TS]

my other ships eventually gets blown up [TS]

and I'm on it i will be constantly sort [TS]

of saving my my mind print so that i can [TS]

be brought back on the hollow ship and [TS]

  scholarships pretty sweet [TS]

I mean once you're there they just ship [TS]

well okay ship regulations do stipulate [TS]

you have to have sex twice a day [TS]

I feel like that might be a little bit [TS]

excessive just like the board cube this [TS]

day mean the days are very well takia [TS]

days are very long but the but you could [TS]

but as a hologram on you can touch [TS]

everything else on the ship it being [TS]

holographic so eating drinking you know [TS]

exercising swimming all that kind of [TS]

stuff they have have all the latest [TS]

amenities and all that kind of stuff and [TS]

  you're practically indestructible you [TS]

don't have to worry too much because [TS]

there's very little that's physical [TS]

  about this ship and [TS]

yeah it's pretty awesome and I feel like [TS]

it's a it's a nice mesh with with the [TS]

red dwarf because then Arnold Rimmer [TS]

could finally get the place that he [TS]

  deserves [TS]

well sort of on the hollow ship and then [TS]

i would probably just take one of those [TS]

other two thousand crew members and i [TS]

would probably have have them cycle out [TS]

and and somebody would have to always be [TS]

on red dwarf to sort of keep an eye on [TS]

those guys because I just couldn't trust [TS]

them by themselves so i would have one [TS]

of the very very smart capable Holograms [TS]

from the Enlightenment take over there [TS]

for a while but it would we would have [TS]

to swap them out because anybody smart [TS]

and capable would not last very long on [TS]

red dwarf without going completely [TS]

  insane [TS]

so that's my plan just a lot of a red [TS]

  dwarf here [TS]

surprisingly yes I was being spread [TS]

surprised me a little bit but through [TS]

all through all right Monty what do you [TS]

  have [TS]

well I want to have fun with my [TS]

spaceships you know I got the satellite [TS]

of love for relaxing and watching movies [TS]

with my robot pals la thank you i got [TS]

Dora who is a pal but ask myself what [TS]

spaceship is the most pure fun what do I [TS]

associate with fun so I'm going to pick [TS]

the rocket that you're riding when [TS]

you're on Space Mountain this is [TS]

obviously it's not ship your zooming [TS]

around space dodging asteroids and stuff [TS]

I think you're still in florida no nope [TS]

you're totally in California but anyway [TS]

yes i will allow it [TS]

the rocket that is the city that is the [TS]

roller coaster in space mountain who [TS]

Jason just looking for new podcast [TS]

standoff Monte i think and i think you [TS]

  mean unity [TS]

all i know is i don't gotta wait no [TS]

  lines [TS]

ah ok the dance the robot is now I mean [TS]

that's a smelting probably got worse [TS]

I'm sure you do it's on the board ship [TS]

  what do you have [TS]

i am going to go to the pinnacle of [TS]

modular spacecraft technology i'm going [TS]

to go back to the year nineteen [TS]

eighty-three and I choose the legoland [TS]

  space galaxy commander [TS]

wow this is a classic space set it [TS]

combines into multiple different forms [TS]

it's it's a big ship that comes with [TS]

five of those little red yellow and [TS]

white classic spacemen it's got a back [TS]

section with a slide-out lab module it [TS]

was big and it was it and it was [TS]

expansive and it was probably in it's [TS]

probably super expensive as Lego has [TS]

become over on and it was the last [TS]

really big really cool legoland space [TS]

thing before lego started abandoning the [TS]

whole we're all space explorers thing [TS]

and started giving them enemies and just [TS]

sort of surrendering to the GI Joe [TS]

application of toys and things like that [TS]

but for 44 people of a certain [TS]

generation that nests of Lego back then [TS]

was a wonderful creative outlet for [TS]

getting into 444 playing and getting [TS]

into and role-playing the whole the [TS]

space stuff that we were watching on [TS]

movie movie screens and television so [TS]

this was the this was the best of them [TS]

and it made my heart sing when Benny [TS]

showed up in the lego movie and all of [TS]

that nostalgia for those old lego space [TS]

toys became a part of the became a [TS]

really big important part of that movie [TS]

so the legoland space galaxy commander [TS]

item number 6980 thank you i'll put that [TS]

in a catalog put on your wish list [TS]

Brian it's your turn what's your third [TS]

selection well I'm i didn't even put [TS]

this on my list because I thought it [TS]

would be taken in the first round Allah [TS]

  enterprise and [TS]

women falken but here we are a [TS]

third-round I thought why not pick the [TS]

firefly serenity right around Jason you [TS]

only have yourself to blame you only [TS]

  have yourself [TS]

oh right oh man how what can i say about [TS]

this 12 episodes in the movie is not [TS]

enough time to spend on this glorious [TS]

glorious ship captain by nathan fillion [TS]

at all and Jason curse your sudden my [TS]

son Jason purse my sudden but inevitable [TS]

betrayal all you want but here i am [TS]

adding a serenity to my fleet it's a [TS]

great choice are one of my favorite [TS]

things about that ship not only I i [TS]

really like that show a lot but they [TS]

built the ship as the set it's a [TS]

multi-level set i believe and you get [TS]

the feeling of it as a real place in [TS]

that show which is something that you [TS]

know it's hard to do because it's a TV [TS]

spaceship but you really feel the [TS]

geography and the lived in nature of of [TS]

serenity when you're watching firefly I [TS]

think it's a great when do you get to [TS]

see people like I'm going from room to [TS]

room through corridors you know i love [TS]

the their bunks where they sort of you [TS]

know the door sort of kicks out and [TS]

they'd taken a ladder down to get to get [TS]

into their rooms and the fact that you [TS]

know it's a smuggling ship and it can do [TS]

stuff like bullet crazy Ivan versatile [TS]

yeah it's got a nice family style table [TS]

where everyone can eat together very [TS]

pleasant got a cool profile it looks [TS]

need to arm it looks like a firefight [TS]

for some reason out wonder why they [TS]

didn't admit that but mocha interesting [TS]

read the whole class is five weeks is [TS]

the first one was probably the firefly [TS]

then after that they had to give them [TS]

  different names [TS]

alright well Brian ruined everything [TS]

there so with by pic i cast is over i am [TS]

chris seriously I'm gonna go to [TS]

literature to just again because i want [TS]

to clap join join a couple of our other [TS]

panelists in classing this thing up a [TS]

little bit with some some book [TS]

spaceships i am picking with my third [TS]

selection the Justice of Toren which is [TS]

a spaceship from the Imperial raj it is [TS]

a it is a spaceship that i feel like i [TS]

got to know because the AI or at least a [TS]

portion of the AI that was the justin of [TS]

  Justice of tour [TS]

friend is brac the meat main character [TS]

in and Lucky's series of books ancillary [TS]

book starting with ancillary justice so [TS]

you get to know this ship is a character [TS]

ships rai is they are they are sentient [TS]

creatures even though their computers [TS]

that run spaceships and by the in the [TS]

plot of the book the the the ship is [TS]

blown up but one of the ancillaries [TS]

which is a human body containing the [TS]

mind or portions of the mind of the the [TS]

  artificial intelligence the spaceship [TS]

survives and has to deal with being by [TS]

itself and not in a ship anymore which i [TS]

think is really interesting and a [TS]

flashback we get to see how the ship's [TS]

work in there they're also very [TS]

interesting although also sort of [TS]

populated by zombie slave labor which is [TS]

not so awesome but they it's not the AIS [TS]

fault they were born into it was gonna [TS]

say those ships are a little problematic [TS]

if they are cool they are cool but [TS]

they're yeah it's not it's not the [TS]

  ship's fault right [TS]

but I feel like I've gotten to know that [TS]

ship in a way that that I we don't [TS]

normally get to know a spaceship because [TS]

it's the main character in an entire [TS]

trilogy science-fiction novels that that [TS]

spaceship so yeah it's Lord Justice [TS]

check it out i will ask you one question [TS]

though and that is what does it look [TS]

  like I don't know it's a spaceship it's [TS]

cool it's got lots of levels and you [TS]

think it looks like and stuff and it's [TS]

got a really smart way I that's in a [TS]

bunch of the zombie alien or zombie [TS]

human bodies and that's all that matters [TS]

when they make the movie Joe a very [TS]

clever our director will come up with a [TS]

beautiful design for it i'm sure all [TS]

right let's do one more round before we [TS]

bring out our dad Joe well there is one [TS]

sci-fi series that i feel like i need to [TS]

get into this and I was thinking long [TS]

and hard about the cool ships that are [TS]

in the sci-fi series one of the notable [TS]

things of course the listener in [TS]

stargate a vaporizing a bunch of gold [TS]

pyramids on the the ground when they [TS]

shouldn't be there it's like I said any [TS]

visual for two seconds they didn't do [TS]

that much more and then I was thinking [TS]

well what's the coolest like the [TS]

penultimate ship in Stargate and i would [TS]

have to say is the Atlantis the the [TS]

actual snowflake city thing is a ship [TS]

that flies around sometimes when it has [TS]

  power [TS]

it's a little a problematic that way [TS]

but that that would definitely be my [TS]

pick for her for that from from Stargate [TS]

stargate atlantis not my favorite of the [TS]

  star key [TS]

but you're right that it is an [TS]

interesting the entire series it's [TS]

basically the city on this planet and [TS]

then but it turns out it's a spaceship [TS]

which is a fun fun little wrinkle but [TS]

it's got some engineering problems [TS]

getting old though I mean it's gonna run [TS]

down because it's been there so long [TS]

that I think stuff is broken that right [TS]

that's kind of why I can fly around [TS]

yeah and there's a you know a couple [TS]

labs where be careful if you open them [TS]

because maybe the ancients for studying [TS]

some sort of deadly secret that'll just [TS]

vaporize you kill you or wander around [TS]

stalking people so you know student [TS]

  common areas [TS]

yeah okay hands and arms to yourself [TS]

while we remain indoors you got a [TS]

Stargate so you can pop around wherever [TS]

you want to go that's true that part [TS]

that feature is pretty awesome [TS]

ok John what do you have a lot more [TS]

ships on my list yeah I know I know this [TS]

is gonna last but a real pic it's hard [TS]

for me to choose and it's a down to two [TS]

is made a last-minute decision to to go [TS]

to go with my gut here and not pick the [TS]

  obvious one [TS]

I'm going to pick the colonial Viper m9 [TS]

and i'm picking that because i had a [TS]

small obsession with this ship when I [TS]

was a kid I had 1i had a plastic you [TS]

know Viper toy from whatever the [TS]

original Battlestar Galactica series now [TS]

then we moved house at some point when I [TS]

was young and I lost it I lost that and [TS]

i lost a stormtrooper kenner figure both [TS]

of which were incredibly crushing but I [TS]

replace the Stormtrooper but i never got [TS]

another Viper and the reason i picked a [TS]

nice i spent a lot of time drawing on my [TS]

notebooks in school during spaceships [TS]

and I drew the Viper a lot like that was [TS]

my most drawing ship I think for my [TS]

during my spaceship drawing phase of my [TS]

life and I got pretty good at drawing [TS]

and drew drew drew cutaways of it i drew [TS]

the inside of the cockpit i do [TS]

everything about it even though like [TS]

that you know so few scenes reuse the [TS]

footage and over and over again and I'll [TS]

start um I was it was very obsessive [TS]

machine this ship I think it's really [TS]

neat and the specific model i'm picking [TS]

is the Viper mark to from the new series [TS]

  from the rebooted [TS]

a Battlestar Galactica that is when they [TS]

showed like here's the old Vipers from [TS]

the first Cylon war and their [TS]

reimagining of what the old ones look [TS]

like is what I remember the old ones [TS]

looking like when I go back and look at [TS]

what that actually looks like they don't [TS]

  look right to me [TS]

so that's a specific shape that I want I [TS]

just think that is a very iconic simple [TS]

ship and obviously that you have many [TS]

other similar iconic ships that I could [TS]

pick their competing with but I I looked [TS]

within myself and I said what were you [TS]

drawing in your notebooks most of the [TS]

time it was my first I love it [TS]

well John did your did your toy hyper [TS]

have the real shooting missiles or the [TS]

child safe ones child safe man [TS]

so sorry and I'm like I didn't know it's [TS]

for child safety i know is lame my way [TS]

he called my a Cylon like that the disk [TS]

shapes the Cylon think same thing they [TS]

would go pitifully just come out of an [TS]

extra quarter inch into sinha terrible [TS]

so you're not making the paper that has [TS]

a motorcycle attached for Galactica 1980 [TS]

no ma still on the board [TS]

Scott what's your choice i'll pick the [TS]

Viper with me you know i am tempted to [TS]

pick a star trek ship but i'm not going [TS]

to one of the things that is problematic [TS]

with faster than light ships is that [TS]

you're traveling that fast and thanks to [TS]

inertia you will end up the cruel end up [TS]

being GU right so Star Trek cells by [TS]

inertial dampeners other places just [TS]

  don't bother explaining it [TS]

dan simmons Hyperion cantos which is a [TS]

set series of books has a class of ships [TS]

called the Archangel class starship that [TS]

  solves this problem by [TS]

you know you you do I become liquefied [TS]

but luckily you are in a resurrection [TS]

crash so at the end of your journey you [TS]

are resurrected and you are reborn at [TS]

the end of your your your space flight [TS]

and so don't worry about this you know [TS]

so that I pick the Archangel class [TS]

starship that strip sounds terrible [TS]

yeah yeah but awesome you come back to [TS]

life at the end so you know exactly you [TS]

don't you don't you don't remember any [TS]

  of it [TS]

yeah except for brief moments where [TS]

you're like fide you're gonna do you [TS]

remember the awful part of a cross [TS]

parasite thing on your chest [TS]

yeah that's true rest your life you do [TS]

have to have the cruciform on otherwise [TS]

you can't fly in the ship [TS]

well you know teacher it's a condition [TS]

of them we only accept Christ that's a [TS]

good one Scott Erica what do you have [TS]

that was a good one [TS]

hats off to ya thats off well thinking [TS]

about what I've got a feeling I got a [TS]

lot of kind of weird stuff you know if [TS]

holly gramatik ship the TARDIS which is [TS]

just strange you know the red dwarf is [TS]

coming clunky i feel like i need [TS]

something that's a little more you know [TS]

classic like sports car spaceship like [TS]

you know heroic let's let's go and fight [TS]

the bad guys so i am going to to go to [TS]

another show that starts with a be and [TS]

has a number but it's actually Blake [TS]

seven not Babylon 5 and i'm going to [TS]

pick the Liberator which is the ship [TS]

that they are on through the first three [TS]

seasons of the show it was actually an [TS]

  abandoned spacecraft found very [TS]

mysteriously as our heroes were escaping [TS]

from a prison that they did not want up [TS]

belong in and it was just this soup [TS]

belong in and it was just this soup [TS]

her hot rod of a spaceship that they [TS]

didn't quite understand because it was [TS]

too far like technically advanced 444 [TS]

that time basically they found one of [TS]

the rooms was just full of treasure and [TS]

fancy clothes and jewels and stuff which [TS]

you know that's always a nice thing to [TS]

have on hand it also has to transport [TS]

technology little bracelets you can put [TS]

on and be transported down to the ship [TS]

which is not something that other ships [TS]

in this universe at that time had it [TS]

also had an AI system the computer [TS]

called itself is n and has kind of just [TS]

a very surly grumpy voice and when he [TS]

doesn't agree with what he's being told [TS]

to do will often just give the give the [TS]

crew the cold shoulder just not answer [TS]

questions and not talk to them for a [TS]

while i appreciate a computer with a [TS]

with a little bit of personality like [TS]

that but when it comes down to a [TS]

deliberate ER is way faster than any of [TS]

the Federation ships that it's that's [TS]

battling or trying to get away from and [TS]

it's just it's just kind of a cool place [TS]

to be great medical technology great [TS]

speed and and yeah until it gets eaten [TS]

by like bacteria or something that's [TS]

that's it has a very disgusting and [TS]

probably most disgusting end of any [TS]

spaceship I've ever seen but until that [TS]

  point it's fantastic [TS]

like seven you didn't let me down Erica [TS]

you're all over the place you got some [TS]

doctor who is some red dwarf some flakes [TS]

  of an amazing [TS]

well it's not that far off is no one's [TS]

gonna move to Canada it it's all from [TS]

one tiny island really it's true through [TS]

Monty what do you have [TS]

I'm gonna need a ruling on this because [TS]

it's a ship that has never actually went [TS]

into space and did not in fact have the [TS]

engines but i would like to pick the [TS]

Space Shuttle enterprise for sentimental [TS]

reasons chase and I would allow it [TS]

  now it's a spaceship it just didn't it's [TS]

like saying it's not a car if you never [TS]

drive it out of the factory store car as [TS]

it all right i'll give it to you [TS]

yes monitoring then my pic is a orbital [TS]

vehicle designation ov-10 one the Space [TS]

Shuttle enterprise which has the [TS]

distinction of having been named after a [TS]

fictional spaceship that then in the [TS]

world of that spaceship the fictional [TS]

spaceship is then named after this space [TS]

shuttle which i think is fascinating [TS]

it was going to be named something else [TS]

  but [TS]

nerds even back in the nineteen [TS]

seventies knew what was up and got a [TS]

petition together and said dear NASA we [TS]

hear you're going into space again call [TS]

it the enterprise please and NASA also [TS]

nerd said yeah you're right let's do [TS]

  that [TS]

unfortunately they didn't save their [TS]

their gunpowder for one of the ships [TS]

that actually went into space that's [TS]

always the sad part of that story but it [TS]

is true there's that scene in is it the [TS]

motion picture where there's a the [TS]

models of the various spaceships and [TS]

Captain Kirk says all of these ships [TS]

have borne the name enterprise yeah [TS]

there is a pencil drawing now that [TS]

yeah I think Jeffrey's true all of them [TS]

but i'm not entirely sure like this one [TS]

that's like a weird hoop with a bit like [TS]

  a line through it [TS]

ignore that one but the name enterprise [TS]

goes back to the British fleet like [TS]

there are tall ships that sailed with [TS]

sales called the enterprise that name [TS]

successfully makes it all the way to [TS]

star trek under interrupted because of [TS]

this space shuttle and i'm pleased to [TS]

pick an actual nearly spaceship [TS]

yep very nice see if after the ocean [TS]

liner draft Monty come on chip what do [TS]

you have a tough choices all around left [TS]

on my list but i think i'm going to go [TS]

with my heart and I talked about another [TS]

multitasking ship that didn't turn into [TS]

a robot but it was still a big [TS]

battleship in it when it when called [TS]

upon it could also be a really really [TS]

big gun and I'm talking about the Space [TS]

Battleship Yamato also known in the US [TS]

as the Argo on Star Blazers that was [TS]

that was the the space opera cartoon of [TS]

ya seventies and I was on my last trip I [TS]

applaud you it was on my list ah it was [TS]

  it it's a it's a great-looking ship of [TS]

the notion of converting an ancient [TS]

Japanese an ancient sunk Japanese [TS]

battleship into a spaceborne battleship [TS]

made absolutely no sense to American [TS]

audiences so of course they a couple of [TS]

episodes in they said well it used to be [TS]

the model but we're renaming at the Argo [TS]

but it the look of it is great the [TS]

they played they mess around with scale [TS]

a little bit because somehow they [TS]

managed to get a few squadrons worth of [TS]

fighter planes into something that is [TS]

basically just you know a battleship [TS]

battleships aren't that big but it looks [TS]

great and it has a super cool wave [TS]

motion gun the Argo love the wave motion [TS]

  gun [TS]

yeah I think that was was that not [TS]

loving the idea there was hey this is a [TS]

this is a really notable ship from [TS]

japanese history that was sunk by the [TS]

Americans let's change the name for the [TS]

American audience but haha yeah but but [TS]

surprisingly they they left in the [TS]

references to the Yamato in the in the [TS]

  early episodes [TS]

yeah it was very clearly they think they [TS]

very clearly left that in and the the [TS]

aesthetic of that show just holds up and [TS]

there is in the last couple of years [TS]

there's been a remake of the original [TS]

series that pretty much follows the [TS]

storyline and most of the character and [TS]

ship designs and all that stuff just [TS]

cutting edge animation and it's so [TS]

wonderful you like boats in space huh [TS]

yeah yeah three boats in space and [TS]

aircraft carrier into battleships wait [TS]

wait i bring out my dad Brian what do [TS]

you have this would have been my number [TS]

one pick had it not been for draft [TS]

strategy and picking things that I was [TS]

sure p other people picked because [TS]

  nobody's picked this it's a relatively [TS]

obscure this is a spaceship from easily [TS]

when my top 5 video games with past [TS]

decade FTL colon faster-than-light stars [TS]

the spaceship the Kestrel this game is [TS]

one where you navigate a spaceship to [TS]

space but not the star fox actually [TS]

piloting the ship kind of way but I from [TS]

the bridge top-down you send men over to [TS]

the engine room to repair the engines [TS]

while also having somebody maximize the [TS]

the weapons while you're fighting other [TS]

people but then you have to change the [TS]

power of the ship to reroute power of to [TS]

the doors because of intruders etc it's [TS]

incredible the Kestrel is the main ship [TS]

in it and I've spent so many hours [TS]

endless hours is a roguelike game so you [TS]

get to play for maybe an hour hour and a [TS]

half and then the game is over and you [TS]

get an arcade-style score but the [TS]

Kestrel is where you spend all your time [TS]

trying to recruit members to your fleet [TS]

and flying through to the Federation [TS]

base or whatever at the end of the game [TS]

to try to get the get all your [TS]

information over there it's it's [TS]

incredible it's like ten dollars on the [TS]

ipad and steam but this game is one my [TS]

favorites ever and the spaceship from it [TS]

the casserole is also the name of my [TS]

  chromecast fun fact [TS]

so this would have been my number one if [TS]

it weren't for actually having to pick [TS]

other things i thought other people [TS]

would pick but the Kestrel from FTL [TS]

colon faster than light which is most [TS]

redundant video game title I've ever [TS]

seen ya was just explaining you know [TS]

what it what it could be like ET the [TS]

extra-terrestrial mmhmm yeah that is an [TS]

infuriating game that I am completely [TS]

addicted to know exactly do you do fact [TS]

that it's roguelike and you just keep [TS]

playing and playing and playing so you [TS]

get a high enough score to actually beat [TS]

the game is fantastic you know you can [TS]

play 45 minutes you can play for two [TS]

  hours it's fantastic [TS]

alright with my ancestral choice the [TS]

castro with my towards the final pick of [TS]

of the proper four rounds of the draft [TS]

and then we'll bring out our dead i have [TS]

a tough choice here too i was thinking [TS]

of going with a real spaceship to [TS]

because I never said fictional and [TS]

that's what I'm going to do i am going [TS]

with the Voyager series of spacecraft [TS]

  from NASA [TS]

ok so first off Voyager 1 and 2 day [TS]

explore planets that have not been [TS]

explored before they went to Jupiter and [TS]

Saturn voyeur to also went to Uranus and [TS]

Neptune they are so they're still giving [TS]

important data from the far reaches of [TS]

our solar system at the edge of the [TS]

  solar system incredibly important [TS]

spacecraft to the expansion of human [TS]

knowledge also and guest stars and star [TS]

trek movie they behave fictional and [TS]

non-fictional Voyager it goes even [TS]

further and is found by a machine [TS]

culture some might even say it was the [TS]

board but who knows is given its own [TS]

intelligence and returns to Earth and a [TS]

giant cloud and Star Trek the motion [TS]

picture so it does double duty it is a [TS]

science fictional spacecraft as well as [TS]

a couple of real spacecraft that were [TS]

  awesome [TS]

so that's nice intentionally podcast [TS]

come on i know i know i will tell you [TS]

all about the history of voyager 8 or [TS]

  whatever what Voyager was [TS]

it went because you wager 6.46 wages [TS]

I don't know they ran out of Voyager it [TS]

turns out the feature feature remains [TS]

  searching for its creator [TS]

so that's my choice ok we have done four [TS]

rounds of the spaceship draft but I'm [TS]

sure everybody else like me has a long [TS]

list of spaceships that they thought [TS]

about picking and didn't and so now I [TS]

ask you to bring out your dead and tell [TS]

me what else was on your draft list that [TS]

didn't get picked Joe what did you have [TS]

that you didn't end up drafting ok so i [TS]

  had the enterprise-e sovereign-class [TS]

  ship [TS]

oh yeah like I woke up yeah yeah I I [TS]

like the design of it a lot it's very [TS]

cool it's very sleek the interior [TS]

lighting is John notice this little [TS]

better on the on the even it is indeed [TS]

it has all of the same features and also [TS]

has more weapons better shields etc etc [TS]

but i have a certain attachment to the [TS]

the D so that's why I picked it and I [TS]

didn't want to just pick enterprises [TS]

here with the rest of the show the [TS]

Sutherland which is the nebula class [TS]

ship that one was a neat design and [TS]

development specifically has the little [TS]

sort of triangle thing on the top of it [TS]

sort of a weapons platform at it it's [TS]

not that noticeable otherwise a better [TS]

but I just like it and then there's the [TS]

Thunderchild which was the first secure [TS]

a class ship you see in first contact [TS]

but i don't really super enjoy it [TS]

anymore because it always makes me think [TS]

of enterprise now because they wanted to [TS]

reuse that design for the next one and [TS]

it makes me angry now so I I had it on [TS]

there as a backup an emergency where you [TS]

really are going to feel conflicted when [TS]

Star Trek beyond comes out aren't you [TS]

yes never that trailer up so did that [TS]

there's the ikea snicker bar which is [TS]

the the next bar where the it was a name [TS]

assigned after we saw the two Klingon [TS]

ships at the end of that Star Trek next [TS]

generation finale the ones that the [TS]

enterprise blows up but they turn out to [TS]

be the capital ships that they reuse [TS]

later on deep space 9 [TS]

it's an interesting design that harkens [TS]

back to what Matt Jeffries had [TS]

originally done for the Klingon cruisers [TS]

but more updated and also better looking [TS]

than the porch class so I I like that [TS]

  one [TS]

and then of course i had the defines on [TS]

here but as Jonathan mentioned things [TS]

blowing up is not great and the Defiant [TS]

unfortunately spoiler has a minor [TS]

  problem with it [TS]

detonating from certain energy weapon [TS]

and so I there there's another one that [TS]

was rechristened later on as happens in [TS]

Star Trek and and so it's it's a good [TS]

it's a tough little ship [TS]

yeah and I I like it's cute it doesn't [TS]

have the it's a cute little worship it [TS]

doesn't have the new cells and [TS]

everything exactly position like a [TS]

starship Starfleet ship normally does so [TS]

it makes it look pretty unique defined [TS]

as also on mother yeah it was all I had [TS]

the enterprise-e and the defined on my [TS]

  list too [TS]

very good i watch star trek that didn't [TS]

get pic that's ok I i do i was also with [TS]

you if I couldn't get the 1701 I was [TS]

going to go to the enterprise-e next I [TS]

was gonna get an enterprise one way or [TS]

  another [TS]

John what do you have on your on your [TS]

list that you didn't pick someone must [TS]

regret not getting too obviously is the [TS]

income t65 x-wing one iconic ship [TS]

panelists x-wing started strong as I had [TS]

a choice to make their i went with the [TS]

big one the executive class starts for [TS]

big just because I feel like you're [TS]

gonna get started for you might look at [TS]

the big one the big one is their little [TS]

ones look so drinking and it's got this [TS]

it's got the seat warmers and the [TS]

leather and the entertainment package [TS]

  the whole thing [TS]

yeah my enterprise I think the 2009 [TS]

reboot 1i really like that redesign [TS]

especially kind of the groovy 60s kind [TS]

of chrome look I even like ass players I [TS]

think the cells are little close [TS]

together for my taste but that's my only [TS]

minor point out but I really think [TS]

that's a good design it was on my list [TS]

  too [TS]

yea high and that's mostly because i [TS]

couldn't find the the classic enterprise [TS]

that I kept going to all the wikipedia [TS]

pages and trying to see where is the one [TS]

that I really like that it's not the ER [TS]

been looking all the ones you guys pick [TS]

it's it's not the original anyway I'm [TS]

i'm confused about my enterprises but i [TS]

really do like to those my 1i had slay [TS]

one on there because that's a great ship [TS]

coolship a very very odd show ya a [TS]

discovery from 2001 which i think is the [TS]

most realistic fake ship and the thing [TS]

because it's realistic and boring and I [TS]

like a ship that is a challenge [TS]

definitely on health that was definitely [TS]

on my list and I almost pick that one [TS]

  that [TS]

that's a very interesting looking ship [TS]

murderous say is I'd right it's like a [TS]

puzzle ship it's like you're up for a [TS]

challenge if you want to be a little [TS]

adversarial with your ship and house not [TS]

the ship but the heat comes with the [TS]

ship and he's a handful [TS]

yeah I had a lot of anime stuff on there [TS]

at the sdf-1 Varitek Fighter Alpha [TS]

fighter is basically everything involved [TS]

that the Robotech came out of the two [TS]

Voltron's were contending in there [TS]

whether I was gonna pick individual [TS]

lines of the whole water on because they [TS]

hang out in space and everything and of [TS]

course add serenity and a couple of [TS]

things that other people pick on that [TS]

that's pretty much where I cough my life [TS]

  i didn't i didn't go down into video [TS]

games chips because I just felt like it [TS]

would pollute my list to my china we [TS]

wouldn't get that mix it's true [TS]

Scott what do you have that we didn't [TS]

hear from you I was the star wars ships [TS]

that I had John mentioned the executive [TS]

  class super star destroyer [TS]

I just think 11 mile long ship but how [TS]

can he not pickin yeah the Derrick's [TS]

class Romulan warbird a bird-of-prey no [TS]

war bird yeah Warburton never pray they [TS]

don't pray anymore they will are one of [TS]

my favorite alien ships and star trek I [TS]

had the USS Prometheus which is an [TS]

experimental ship that breaks off into [TS]

three different ships that's cool I've [TS]

always had a soft spot for the Excelsior [TS]

which was the failed transwarp Drive [TS]

also later captain by Sulu [TS]

I think it looks cool i had the Cylon [TS]

Raider and Rama Rama from Rondo and uh [TS]

exactly and the heart of gold for [TS]

pictures got to the countless articles i [TS]

was referring to before that I thought [TS]

someone would pick about doesn't really [TS]

take you where you want to go but where [TS]

you need to go yeah story once you and [TS]

by the way I forgot my protest pick my [TS]

protest if I had gotten sufficiently [TS]

angry with Susan's officiating which is [TS]

close to tell you was a spaceship earth [TS]

they call fall outside epcot I'd that [TS]

lay out the actual planet [TS]

okay i'm gonna make the entire planet [TS]

interesting yeah I'd lost as much space [TS]

ship as the Death Star it's not [TS]

oh and that's not but the roller coaster [TS]

is really cause you're totally station [TS]

no they were not the roller coasters [TS]

earth the fictional rocket you are [TS]

riding when you enter the world of space [TS]

man that's real and I understood the [TS]

  pitch [TS]

Erica what do you have for us we didn't [TS]

get Ted what chip had mentioned if the [TS]

TARDIS was taking he was thinking of [TS]

taking the master TARDIS not me I would [TS]

have taken the Rani's TARDIS because it [TS]

had a cool marble the court on the [TS]

inside its got a dinosaur in a jar and [TS]

instead of a column that goes up and [TS]

down it's got a rotating pair of [TS]

metallic rings which looks super cool [TS]

another doctor who ship from underworld [TS]

the p7e was a spaceship from the planet [TS]

manuals and when the minion civilization [TS]

was destroyed by a nuclear war [TS]

p 7t took the race banks of all of their [TS]

people left for the stars and eventually [TS]

they got caught in a nebula where the [TS]

ship was basically turned into a planet [TS]

which is kind of a cool thing and there [TS]

was all this like Greek mythology stuff [TS]

so p 7t turned out to be kind of any [TS]

place to live if you didn't mind you [TS]

know totalitarian rule there was that [TS]

  too [TS]

and although all the crawl the green [TS]

  screen to yes [TS]

yeah that's true was entirely green [TS]

screen it was it was the prequels before [TS]

the prequel the actual planet was just [TS]

green screen everywhere that was there [TS]

was strange how it was designed that way [TS]

yeah the activated they had no budget [TS]

and I've been loaded they may do gosh [TS]

they may do to keep my marriage happy I [TS]

was required to mention Benny's [TS]

spaceship spaceship spaceship from the [TS]

lego movie which is one of the [TS]

spaceships that is surrounding me right [TS]

now the Blake's 7 the Scorpio is the [TS]

ship that came after the Liberator it's [TS]

not quite as cool as the Liberator and [TS]

its computer is named slave and is [TS]

actually kind of creepy so that is why [TS]

did not pick it earlier another red [TS]

  dwarf thing [TS]

starbug starbug is one of the little [TS]

transports things out of red dwarf and [TS]

the app are forced to live in it for a [TS]

while and it's just one of the most [TS]

adorable little ship models it looks [TS]

like a little little bug [TS]

it's like a little rounded run bubbles [TS]

all stuck together four feet and I just [TS]

  think it's very cute [TS]

it got to go with some Babylon 5 [TS]

I was was going to even though it looks [TS]

like a plucked chicken in space [TS]

I appreciate the white star [TS]

because oh yeah in part 44 what it means [TS]

for the characters on the show when they [TS]

get this new class of ships a bit like [TS]

you know takes them to the next level [TS]

and it's exciting and it it's a [TS]

animation cool i don't care what JMS [TS]

  says thank you [TS]

hey I wrote it down but i deleted it [TS]

because of what you had said but I agree [TS]

it is definitely a cool ship to what the [TS]

  characters [TS]

mhm yep and it's you know the [TS]

combination of technologies from two [TS]

different races and it did kind of you [TS]

know blows a lot of the other ships out [TS]

of the water also Babylon 5 [TS]

I really appreciate the Starfury simply [TS]

a way that they move in space they don't [TS]

follow like you know regular spaceship [TS]

rules from a lot of TV shows that i grew [TS]

up watching they can pivot and spin and [TS]

and actually pay attention to the way [TS]

physics would for the most part working [TS]

space which i think is a pretty neat [TS]

  thing they're they're a they're x-wings [TS]

  informed by real physics [TS]

basically yeah that is basically what [TS]

they are and what if we're going purely [TS]

on what things look like i did have the [TS]

minbari war cruiser on my list but Jason [TS]

took that my actual next race right [TS]

after that was the minbari flier which [TS]

is a much sort of like a little personal [TS]

kind of a ship that that people can tool [TS]

around it all by themselves and it's [TS]

it's also got sort of like a purpley [TS]

turquoise blue to it and it's got little [TS]

fans and it just looks very organic and [TS]

and it's as if any little thing so I [TS]

like that but possibly my favorite [TS]

Earthship from Babylon 5 is the EAS [TS]

Cortez which is a ginormous ship that is [TS]

under the command of a captain jack [TS]

Maynard who is played by the fellow who [TS]

played dr. Jacoby on Twin Peaks so [TS]

automatically it's extra cool but if [TS]

this huge ship that goes out and [TS]

explores the universe and builds [TS]

jumpgates so that other ships can travel [TS]

from place to place which i think is [TS]

neat and I was also going to pick the [TS]

Black Lion from Voltron that all and and [TS]

i was going to pick from the person in [TS]

mccaffrey spurn series i was going to [TS]

pick Avis until I realized that that was [TS]

actually an artificial intelligence and [TS]

not a spaceship so I have withdrawn that [TS]

  from my list [TS]

it's tricky sometimes and I see ships in [TS]

  Turkey [TS]

yeah this there's no AI or spaceship [TS]

  podcast you know yet [TS]

Monty what did you have that you didn't [TS]

haha well I had a couple things fighting [TS]

it out for my real spaceship slot that I [TS]

pick went with the enterprise on my [TS]

other options were Soviet Sputnik 2 [TS]

which is the Sputnik that carried like [TS]

the dog into space around that it was [TS]

the first thing that could actually be [TS]

called a spaceship with a passenger and [TS]

my other option for that was going to be [TS]

juno currently in the news orbiting [TS]

Jupiter yep i considered a chair with 47 [TS]

Rockets attached which was allegedly [TS]

used by a man named one who and 2000 BC [TS]

to take him into space [TS]

most people including Mythbusters view [TS]

this is fictional but what the heck most [TS]

of these spaceships are fictional so I [TS]

  think should've been fine [TS]

the plan 9 UFO not only has a radio [TS]

resurrect the dead which would come in [TS]

handy but it could be used as a hubcap [TS]

on a 57 Chevy and my only other one that [TS]

was going to have to use if everything [TS]

else got rejected was the cab written by [TS]

space cabbie space can be of course is a [TS]

marvel comics character who drives a cab [TS]

through space of course of course why [TS]

  not why not [TS]

sometimes you gotta get somewhere you [TS]

don't have a spaceship you have to get [TS]

ice cap you got to pick up some money [TS]

  somehow [TS]

why not driving people around I'm really [TS]

mad that space uber is going to put that [TS]

guy out of a job but you know yeah you [TS]

  got it disrupt everything [TS]

chip what did you have well there's been [TS]

a depressing lack of space Winnebagos in [TS]

this draft so the hero five from [TS]

  spaceballs is called for [TS]

ok there's also a depressing amount of [TS]

space Winnebagos in that movie one on [TS]

too many I was also thinking about the [TS]

heart of gold in Star Trek world of the [TS]

USS reliant which is I think the first [TS]

really get in the classic series pretty [TS]

much if you saw way if you saw a [TS]

federation ship was a redress to [TS]

enterprise rental and this was the first [TS]

time that we got to see a different look [TS]

for the ship and that [TS]

and up the whole that opened up the [TS]

whole universe for future movies and TV [TS]

shows the Romulan warbird when it [TS]

appears in the know that's that's like [TS]

the one good moment in the first season [TS]

of star trek next turn right is when the [TS]

warbird shows yeah that's that [TS]

deidara decks class that uh you [TS]

mentioned that Saudi Scott mentioned [TS]

yeah and uh and as far as enterprises go [TS]

the the Constitution refit the star trek [TS]

one through six enterprise is by far my [TS]

favorite I I much prefer that to the JJ [TS]

Abrams version which just looks like a [TS]

barge to me Mom in a star wars a funnily [TS]

enough when I was a kid it wasn't the [TS]

x-wing that did it for me it was the [TS]

  y-wing uh I i adored the y-wing and i [TS]

kinda liked even as a kid watching that [TS]

  movie and seeing that [TS]

yeah here's the Bombers that are really [TS]

supposed to take out the the Death Star [TS]

and they have a design that lends itself [TS]

to that and they go through there and [TS]

and makes it all the more remarkable [TS]

that are young are young Luke Skywalker [TS]

safes day the the phoenix from science [TS]

and engineering gatchaman AKA battle of [TS]

the planets it's a multitasker [TS]

  it's a it's a spaceship it's a carrier [TS]

and it's blowtorch and the i did have a [TS]

fuck video game in there the the fighter [TS]

from Vanguard at the 1981 arcade game [TS]

that allows you to shoot in multiple [TS]

directions and fly through an energy pot [TS]

and just smash through other spaceships [TS]

and walls that was great and finally my [TS]

last dead bringing my multitasking theme [TS]

home not just one ship but fifteen ships [TS]

not just spaceships but also sport [TS]

utility vehicles and helicopters the [TS]

gestalt a vehicle Voltron lot of Ultron [TS]

  happening here [TS]

Ultron red dwarf surprising amounts of [TS]

both Brian what did you have left [TS]

well my most legitimate one that I had [TS]

was a TIE fighters from Star Wars I [TS]

I free to favorite one of the satiny [TS]

yeah I have everything that relates to [TS]

you my I think they look the coolest of [TS]

any of the star warships I too had [TS]

discovery one heart of gold on my list [TS]

the only one that no one's mentioned yet [TS]

is the Nostromo from my alien which is [TS]

one that was on my list infested though [TS]

you don't want that one that's true i [TS]

like it it's very atmospheric and creepy [TS]

and there's a cat on it he shipped from [TS]

district nine big looming creepy [TS]

mysterious ship in johannesburg the [TS]

thing from contact with the hell that is [TS]

yeah I had that on my life to the [TS]

machine from Carter I mean the spaceship [TS]

itself is like a bubble right but it's [TS]

got the crazy like gyroscope thing that [TS]

launches it into the wormhole right now [TS]

it was a I didn't have much to say about [TS]

it is just the thing from contact and [TS]

really liked watching i also had you [TS]

know and the international space station [TS]

on my list from the video game room I [TS]

have ratchet and clank spaceship which I [TS]

can't remember the name of and samus [TS]

around spaceship from the Metroid Prime [TS]

series which does not have a name except [TS]

for samus's gunship and the things that [TS]

were too tired to argue were spaceships [TS]

whir Wheatley from Portal 2 and bender [TS]

from futurama as seen in episode 3 20 [TS]

God fellas when he is flying through [TS]

space and harboring a a civilization on [TS]

his chest and then talks to God I didn't [TS]

want to argue that so here I am for your [TS]

consideration the asset has special [TS]

place and I'm glad that we didn't have [TS]

to get there Brian I'm gone for he was [TS]

awful generous this time how to yeah [TS]

yeah i think those might have been [TS]

rejected but you never know in the [TS]

moment I might have just proved [TS]

everything sounds draft unless I approve [TS]

something controversially here's what i [TS]

have left I had Moya the Leviathan that [TS]

is the spaceship in farscape a living [TS]

creature by that that they that is also [TS]

a spaceship and they and we hear about [TS]

her mood from the pilot the pilot is and [TS]

some of the other characters are sort of [TS]

emotionally attached to the to the [TS]

spaceship and she had a baby at one [TS]

point who is also a spaceship in during [TS]

the run at that show so i think that was [TS]

a very interesting spaceship care [TS]

sir I really like the Vorlon cruiser and [TS]

transport ship both the designs of both [TS]

of those from Babylon 5 they are kind of [TS]

shimmery the shimmery and the kind of [TS]

like a flower almost or a plant of some [TS]

sort that kind of garlic got a bit yea [TS]

big stock and then a little Cape kind of [TS]

thing in the back there really neat i [TS]

was going to mention the from Doctor Who [TS]

the code the Dalek saucer only because [TS]

it's hilarious it's just a flying saucer [TS]

and they go with it and they just yes [TS]

they are in a flying saucer [TS]

you just have to I just remember might [TS]

like one of the important ones i forgot [TS]

  to put my list [TS]

yeah me too from you knew this was going [TS]

to happen it's happening late in the [TS]

game from the Micronauts of course the [TS]

microbes ship hms endeavor as well as [TS]

the bioship which is just a very large [TS]

version of the character biotron who is [TS]

a ship the the original Romulan [TS]

bird-of-prey I had on my list from [TS]

balance of terror with a mark leonard is [TS]

the commander I had that I had that that [TS]

model and I it was the hardest thing to [TS]

get that the the whole bird on the [TS]

bottom as a decal and I can I and I tore [TS]

it and it was it uh how the Romulans do [TS]

it wasn't the snap together model one [TS]

where you had the wet decal that you put [TS]

over the whole bottle was not it was a [TS]

glue together but then yes you have a [TS]

white decal that you have to put on the [TS]

bottom of it had the snap together one [TS]

with a decal it was it was a smaller [TS]

version of the same problem [TS]

yeah yeah butBut I I thought that was a [TS]

cool weird vessel in an early start Trek [TS]

there weren't that many spaceship models [TS]

really and that was an interesting one [TS]

from the comic book saga the main [TS]

characters travel a lot in a tree that [TS]

is also a spaceship and I always thought [TS]

that was kinda cool and there's a key [TS]

moment where they they they mentioned [TS]

something about having to be on the on [TS]

the radar because the radar of all the [TS]

spaceships is detecting all the metal [TS]

objects around them and they realize oh [TS]

our ship is made of wood they can't see [TS]

us which is a pretty cool moment because [TS]

it's a tree and then finally since uh [TS]

since chip mentioned the fighter from [TS]

Vanguard i'll just say I don't know that [TS]

spaceship to fly around in [TS]

defender and that's it we're done [TS]

nothing turns on a dime [TS]

it's amazing smart bomb smart behind I [TS]

know how about that and that's it [TS]

what did we learn nothing except that [TS]

there are lots of spaceships and that's [TS]

how i like it so I'd like to thank my [TS]

panel for joining me and for picking [TS]
