◼ ► Can I go to a small skinny hot chocolate place. Now I thank you. Now that's fine thank you Mr. [TS]
◼ ► Do you have the Right now use that have nothing. Thanks. How come you're running every popular. [TS]
◼ ► Maybe there's been some big run on them not all right. Sounds like it's going to nationwide shortage or what stop it. [TS]
◼ ► You know what London's like and you know what black cab drivers are like by a lot of mafia of London and I. Well. [TS]
◼ ► Because I try not to use them because they are hugely expensive and not that pleasurable. Of an experience. [TS]
◼ ► So no I don't really know what black cabs are like how to I take issue with one thing you said that they are too [TS]
◼ ► Of the cabs that I have taken around the world I will probably put the black cabs up pretty high on that list possibly [TS]
◼ ► when you're in a group like it's very fun getting in a black cab because your face each other [TS]
◼ ► But oh so if you're like me and you've got like eighteen camera bags and your carrying them around good my condition. [TS]
◼ ► and opens the door it is good to sort of tumbling in all your bags can just sketcher across the floor. [TS]
◼ ► The black cabs are smartly optimized for large groups of possibly intoxicated people because you can all just pile in. [TS]
◼ ► The interior of the New York subway system where it looks like you have designed this so it is optimal to clean it so [TS]
◼ ► You have a ton of stuff and you just need to dump all of it is like they are quite spacious compared to other cabs. [TS]
◼ ► So I say we pay people who have been out drinking and people with lots of bags basically that might for me. [TS]
◼ ► Which is why I am not surprised that seconds into our conversation. You are defending the black cabs. [TS]
◼ ► Has this proposal for a bunch of changes that they want to make to what they're calling car hiring services. [TS]
◼ ► and making me just absolutely furious it's like there's this thing that has come into the world. [TS]
◼ ► And it makes the world better and. Because it is competing with a kind of a stablished governmental monopoly. [TS]
◼ ► There's a they want to put all of these regulations on it. To limit it. And I know who Barisan mazing. [TS]
◼ ► I was reflecting on the past ten years of my life and thinking. What things in the past ten years of my life. [TS]
◼ ► Have Changed my life. Significantly for the better. If I had to make a shortlist was I on the list. [TS]
◼ ► You're on the list now. Last minute contender. Hello Internet podcast is of course. Number one on that list. [TS]
◼ ► Because I know your wife listens and you know if you're going to be pressed. Let's say equal number one. [TS]
◼ ► Let's say equal number one tire one feeling OK. So that's great and I'm thinking OK what makes else on this list. [TS]
◼ ► Becoming self-employed. Makes it onto this list. My life before and after an i Phone makes it onto this list. [TS]
◼ ► I would honestly say that lube are is one of the biggest changes in the last ten years of my life that has just made so [TS]
◼ ► And so that's why I am just having this visceral reaction against the proposed changes from T F L. I'm very upset. [TS]
◼ ► The proposed changes. The big one is a five minute wait time. If you want to book a private car. In London. [TS]
◼ ► It's Harrison Bergeron right like that's all this is here. Oh. We're going to play this down. [TS]
◼ ► This doesn't affect you at all because you're never going to be there right within five minutes you're not you're not [TS]
◼ ► Within a five minute window so it affects exactly no one except for as I was looking through I'm like OK. [TS]
◼ ► Proposal has this big paragraph about how this is for customer. Safety. Here's a little paragraph explaining this. [TS]
◼ ► A delay between the booking and commencement of a journey will reduce the risk of a customer. [TS]
◼ ► Getting into is the wrong car and or into an unlicensed vehicle. Now. I've taken over many times. [TS]
◼ ► I don't know how someone would get in the wrong car. Like they have the license plate. You have a picture of the guy. [TS]
◼ ► Has anyone in the U.K. Ever booked a nuber and stepped into the wrong car and someone drives off. I highly doubt it. [TS]
◼ ► And any reasons that you would do that because I can see how you might walk up to the wrong car. [TS]
◼ ► And if your really unobservant. Maybe try to open the door a lot because it because it's a pretty common looking car. [TS]
◼ ► Still after five minutes you going to walk out to the straight and maybe open the room door. If you're that dumb. [TS]
◼ ► So it must be true let's just be honest about it and just treat it like you know. Tariffs and things like that like. [TS]
◼ ► It's just you know. This is a deliberate. Thing. To give a fair a guard to the established businesses. [TS]
◼ ► But the other thing about this delay and the safety which I'm trying to think of is like OK. [TS]
◼ ► What is the scenario under which is bad let's say you walk up to the wrong car. And you open the door. [TS]
◼ ► The person who's in the car. I guess they. They happen to be a kidnapper who's cruising around and thinking. [TS]
◼ ► Oh I was going to grab someone off the street. But boy Today's my lucky day. Just matured right in the car. [TS]
◼ ► Thank you Transport for London. Joe what is the scenario here. I don't understand I don't understand. [TS]
◼ ► And yet so the next thing is it says. It's for passenger safety. To make sure that the passenger. And the driver. [TS]
◼ ► Are able to ensure a safe pick up location. Now here they try to justify themselves. If the pick up time was too short. [TS]
◼ ► The passenger. May run into traffic. To get the vehicle. How how does making the the waiting time longer. Fix this. [TS]
◼ ► I have ever endangered my physical safety. Trying to get a car is trying to get a cab. Where I'm standing in the road. [TS]
◼ ► Possibly trying to upstream other people getting cabs you know you're moving around the cabs are obviously manifestly [TS]
◼ ► but cabbage Irene companies must not show vehicles being available on any maps on any apps. [TS]
◼ ► They may or may not have like OK. I'm not quite sure who that is now. I have one more here which I absolutely love. [TS]
◼ ► You can say that you want to be able to share the ride with other people who are going in the same direction as you. [TS]
◼ ► Would be hugely in favor of this. Anything that can reduce the number of cars would be amazing. But no. [TS]
◼ ► It's not as though the cut like the customers are able to decide of this is something that they want [TS]
◼ ► or something that they don't like I've never used it because I can't imagine anything more on a comfortable than being [TS]
◼ ► in a car and pulling off and having a stranger get in and sit next to me like oh God this is the. [TS]
◼ ► Robin obviously it makes sense and you're Snuka that they're obviously two things going on here. The. [TS]
◼ ► The power of the black cab. Lobby. And it's not insignificant. Yeah but oh sorry. It cost and. [TS]
◼ ► Slip balm to get a black cab Lawson's and that's obviously a huge income spinach Transport for London. [TS]
◼ ► And if all the black cabs got a business. Service Transport for London maybe they're figuring. [TS]
◼ ► I say it doesn't make sense because I was it's like I wish the world didn't operate in this way. [TS]
◼ ► when I say it makes no sense I know say their justifications don't make much sense they could have done a better job no [TS]
◼ ► I need to specify that Luger works very differently in the U.K. Than it does in the US. In the U.K.. [TS]
◼ ► They are not allowed to just be like hey I'm a guy with a car an app I'm going to drive like you can in some other [TS]
◼ ► places. I didn't either. T.F. Else other suggestion is that drivers are only allowed to work for one company. Now. [TS]
◼ ► Almost every single member driver I have spoken to they are guys who were transitioning from some cab company that they [TS]
◼ ► And that they were doing more and more time on Hoover and taking fewer and fewer days. With their other cab company. [TS]
◼ ► They're trying to restrict the driver's abilities to try out a better system is just infuriating Brady is just [TS]
◼ ► infuriating. I'm sorry can I if it works out for you I hope it works out for me too because I'll tell you. [TS]
◼ ► Was because Las Vegas at that time was going through this same kind of thing that uber had to temporarily withdraw from [TS]
◼ ► Las Vegas. And they weren't allowed to operate. Because the taxi unions had pressure the government to make it so. [TS]
◼ ► As like oh God this is awful i forgot how terrible this is like the taxi driver has no incentive to make his car good [TS]
◼ ► You're just getting in the car with like a random dude who you will never see again who doesn't care who has no [TS]
◼ ► responsibility. And that the car is disgusting and there's ads blaring on the inside of the car is terrible. [TS]
◼ ► You're not going to like this but I've just got this feeling that the bizarrely cool because it's new [TS]
◼ ► and it's doing well and I think it's of the time is no I when there is going to go down the pipe shapes [TS]
◼ ► I don't know if it's going to involve advertising on some change in the balance of power between customers [TS]
◼ ► I just I feel uneasy about you but I'm skeptical about its future. Well we all know what the future of Hooper is. [TS]
◼ ► Amazingly shockingly to me in a way that I always feel like are you sure you want to say that out loud. The C.E.O. [TS]
◼ ► He's always being really clear that he wants Hooper to transition into a self driving car company has things like a guy. [TS]
◼ ► You know you're trying to persuade to leave there are the company's income work for everybody. It's like Listen. [TS]
◼ ► I think that you started this company with humans solely because you couldn't do it with with robots [TS]
◼ ► and it will eventually be with robots. But your company has to last until the robots are available. [TS]
◼ ► Like you can go bankrupt between now and then there's no guarantee that you're going to make it through the point [TS]
◼ ► when the autos take over. That is so clearly an obviously the way that Hoover is designed to be. [TS]
◼ ► By the way don't take my kind of not colinear on the use of autos as some kind of tacit approval for that word is a [TS]
◼ ► tacit approval. I have not given official approval to that word. Oh I didn't know that I needed your official know. [TS]
◼ ► and of almost given your autos as like as a as a thank you for the what if you give them a as a soft you finish to [TS]
◼ ► Maybe we can do that very broad but we can't spread ourselves too thin across all these battle fronts. [TS]
◼ ► No we can't we can. Now that she would do some follow up. We might as well. We might as well do some follow up. [TS]
◼ ► How the T. Shirt sales do and you know the final numbers the T. Shirt sale has finished. The the rice rat. [TS]
◼ ► I was going to drop you there isn't a certain species corrected me it is lime it is it is the Jamaican rice red [TS]
◼ ► and the reunion swamp and the teacher and say oh has now finished and that we are going to say we. [TS]
◼ ► When we set up the salad course we didn't set sail I met them behind your back for the. What's this I had started. [TS]
◼ ► This one if you let Ross rats get this one could very quickly yeah yeah people were expressing their innate preference [TS]
◼ ► And because sort of taste bring make the sales numbers quite public it became a sort of a showdown. [TS]
◼ ► And amazingly and I don't know whether there was no what Enos going on here I just happen naturally. But. [TS]
◼ ► It was neck and neck. And it was sometimes it was changing that would never more than five a pot. [TS]
◼ ► And I kept thinking of that neutral video on You Tube where you know I have no feelings about this one way [TS]
◼ ► and thumbs down which I have massively heard back from people that it is not exactly the same all the time. [TS]
◼ ► But it is so close most of the time that you won't notice. Yeah. And that's what this race looks like. [TS]
◼ ► But I have a theory. I have a theory as to why these numbers were so please tell me. I'm dying to know. [TS]
◼ ► And when you went to look and see what are the two numbers doing it like you were catching it in mid order. [TS]
◼ ► And I think that's why so many times it was off by just one or maybe two. I bet. Almost everybody who got one. [TS]
◼ ► Got both of the type I think Iraq. I am right. Just let us know some how tight not. I'm not and I. [TS]
◼ ► Here's how you do this Brady. So you don't get overwhelmed with a million people right. Yeah. You're go to is Twitter. [TS]
◼ ► Not Twitter on the Reddit people there will be some thread. You can reply to it on the Read it. [TS]
◼ ► Let us know what you did with purchasing them. Don't tweet it. Go to read it. This is what it is for I.K. [TS]
◼ ► and we'll just assume everyone we don't hear from got to Jeep I want in the end on a technical night. I bought two. [TS]
◼ ► We have to coordinate our outfits Brady if we ever go somewhere we have to make sure that we're both not wearing the [TS]
◼ ► rice rat or the one pan it'll be so embarrassing. The final tally was Jamaican rice rat. Two hundred forty four T. [TS]
◼ ► Shirts reunion swamp pan. Two hundred forty five. Wow. So I swan Penn wins by one. That's a photo finish. That is. [TS]
◼ ► You have any thoughts on that of shut it down for an hour but I don't mind a kind of luck that it was a one off. [TS]
◼ ► and take advantage of what's going on everybody who got your rice rats in the region making FLARM pens the way. [TS]
◼ ► Every union swap hence. It's an amazing. Limited Edition shirt that you have near that you can frame it in your house. [TS]
◼ ► You can pass it down through the generations. You can store it in a trunk. To make sure that the U.V. Light. [TS]
◼ ► Like yours in the future then I hope you're caught up in this could change their mind because we need a few extra bucks [TS]
◼ ► for a coffee. It's a real pleasure to be sponsored by a service we actually use. And one such sponsor. [TS]
◼ ► Is Hava hover is a demand registrar you can go along. Snap up the Web addresses you need or just ones you want. [TS]
◼ ► For example as other of those two animals. Ever miraculously come back from extinction. Sort of Jurassic Park style. [TS]
◼ ► Now if you're a bit more serious or sensible than me. You could have a really cool business idea. [TS]
◼ ► About why have the say good all the great service isn't extras they have things like custom email addresses [TS]
◼ ► and their valet transfer. But the best thing I can say is I've just got a super clean website. [TS]
◼ ► You will get an extra ten percent off your first purchase with Hava. If you use an offer code when you check out. [TS]
◼ ► And this week in an unusual move. We've got a choice of Africa. It's. You can either have swan pen. [TS]
◼ ► The don't do it for the small pen and don't do it for the Ross rat do it for yourself and that ten percent off [TS]
◼ ► I'm going to say something that's going to make a few people hit that. SKIP button. Area. Yeah. [TS]
◼ ► Three things to say about Apple Watch. I occupied. I'm even I feel like three. I'm sorry. Brady. [TS]
◼ ► If they haven't realized by now it's great you can you tell people what my main issue with the After watching. [TS]
◼ ► It's not at all it's not the fact their computers on your wrist it's not the fact they have the answers right here mere [TS]
◼ ► And they're not doing their own thing is that is that a way to summarize it I believe it's silly to have an end to [TS]
◼ ► I have come up with two new examples in the last week that have given me that feeling again. [TS]
◼ ► I'm going to give her very quickly because I want to and it's my podcast to so do with it. You. [TS]
◼ ► You say that like I have no idea that this is our show. You do have that. You know Apple X. [TS]
◼ ► but You do have the out of it veto. I made a video. This week about the physics and mathematics of drums and drumming. [TS]
◼ ► Professor Phil Mariotti who I know is when your favorites in in my videos as well and he's a big music head. [TS]
◼ ► Where you just hook up a sensitive computer and you can just got little sensors on your fate [TS]
◼ ► and on the ends of drumsticks and you can just see in the middle of your room and drum away in mid-air. [TS]
◼ ► Knowing where the drums would pay. And it recreates the drum. Experience. It's like air guitar. [TS]
◼ ► If you could still play guitar with drums. It's a coping and I know. And I see all the benefits of it. [TS]
◼ ► And he loves the stories he was that when you make this video Brady let's do all using the area drums. And I said. [TS]
◼ ► And he was like are do we do we need a real drum kit can we just use the arrow drums. And I was pretty insistent. [TS]
◼ ► I feel you're trying to trick me into me into agreeing with you on a different point than the specific [TS]
◼ ► and I can I tell you you've got exemption from being tripped I just just in the case of this video. [TS]
◼ ► In the case of you are doing a. Video about the physics of drums. Yep. You need a drum in the video. [TS]
◼ ► I will agree with you one hundred percent you need a physical drum that someone is hitting it [TS]
◼ ► But I'm agreeing with you you know that I don't you're doing a video. You need the thing. I care is a good thing. OK. [TS]
◼ ► So when we set it up and. We had my make sure on there playing the drums. It looked awesome and Co and then. [TS]
◼ ► And then fail set up his arrow drums and sat next to him and just out of the washing away in the air and the drum [TS]
◼ ► and little reflective things on your fate thinking this is like driving to me I just felt like saying that's not [TS]
◼ ► drowning. Those bad boys there. That's real drumming. That's how I feel about Apple watchers and I don't like watches. [TS]
◼ ► My That's not an adult watch this is an analog watch the. You're playing ninety spoony here. [TS]
◼ ► That's not a knife this is the ones that are doing exactly what they are there is another example which I wish to share [TS]
◼ ► I am a big fan of Formula one racing and I'm going to send you a picture of the racing gloves. [TS]
◼ ► Worn by the Misael drivers. OK so I'm looking at a pair of gloves with a picture of a watch on the gloves. [TS]
◼ ► Basically printed on to the glove so that when you see these drivers with their racing gloves. [TS]
◼ ► When I see an analog watch on your wrist. On the front of an apple watch. I feel like you've got to ten abs. [TS]
◼ ► They aren't moving like come on man at all just point out that this man's glove watch. Does not tell him the time. [TS]
◼ ► I know. Now here's my third point which I think you may find more interesting. Can I Just before we go really quickly. [TS]
◼ ► These glove watches kindest. Make sure I understand what's going on here this is for. This is so that on T.V. [TS]
◼ ► Yes they wanted to look like they're wearing the was the watch company wants to sponsor the driver because of the shots [TS]
◼ ► of him he's wearing rice and gloves in the car you can see a watch. By paying to watch on his racing gloves basically. [TS]
◼ ► OK I just I just want to otherwise of the is this some kind of crazy fashion thing that I don't understand. [TS]
◼ ► I just all of that said. I think I'm going to get an apple watch. Oh no no no no no. Brady It's just you know. [TS]
◼ ► Just been niggling at my mind lately the whole you know listen listen to me man. Listen to me. [TS]
◼ ► You should not get an apple Why no you say that I say it because I mean it. I say it because I care. [TS]
◼ ► and that's the one who has the one thing I do you think is strong about the Apple Watch the fitness aspect. [TS]
◼ ► And I'm just thinking. You know I give you a hard time about it and hop on that maybe I should try. [TS]
◼ ► I'm thinking I might get one. OK. OK. I think this is a terrible idea. Yes. I was doing some work on the. [TS]
◼ ► And the most recent video that we put up happened to be the one where we were talking about almost a year ago now. [TS]
◼ ► And I happen to relisten to that section where I was encouraging you to not get an apple watch that I thought it was a [TS]
◼ ► Yeah that guy from the past has some good points he's right this is not a good idea from Brady. [TS]
◼ ► And so I feel the exact same way up with the Lincoln to show notes of people. But at the same time. [TS]
◼ ► Current me is also now. Perversely curious to see. Since I've gotten over the initial shock. [TS]
◼ ► I mean I'm like I think it's going to end up in a drawer. Within a few weeks. That would be my prediction is that you. [TS]
◼ ► Yeah. You get bored with it. Very fat. Maybe within the two week. Return window. I don't. I don't return things gray. [TS]
◼ ► Oh yeah. I'm amazed that you do written things I thought I was sort was a mild thing to return things. [TS]
◼ ► If I buy something. And like it doesn't fit or I don't like or it doesn't look good. My attitude is. My mistake. [TS]
◼ ► Rather than go to a shop and returns and that's just not how it works. It is a hassle sometimes. [TS]
◼ ► Do you have any idea which Apple Watch you're going to get I know that you're not a fan of any of the designs [TS]
◼ ► I'm going to have to go and have a look again to remind myself but I've seem to remember when I tried them on. [TS]
◼ ► I did like the leather bands with sort of more normally buckles I like I like the band in the buckle to look as out [TS]
◼ ► I don't like the whole kind of you know everything being plastic or space age and stuff I like. [TS]
◼ ► They have new leather buckles and they have one in particular which is fairly old the looking. [TS]
◼ ► I do like a sort of a where that out looking brown leather I think it's quite nice me to see if I can pull maybe a lot [TS]
◼ ► Here's my guess for the most Brady looking one that they currently have available for the listeners this is the. [TS]
◼ ► Which looks like as old fashioned of a leather the loop men buckled as as you're going to find probably I asked think [TS]
◼ ► that is probably the most likely contender. I think my what my one resists I should use because I'm looking this. [TS]
◼ ► At this is a possible fitness device and something I specially want to have when I'm doing fitness things. And then. [TS]
◼ ► But I actually think that's a good mix I like my liver to get crept up a bit as the Millennium Falcon. [TS]
◼ ► Aesthetic of a very looks better. A little bit worn and leather is a material that looks good a little bit worn. [TS]
◼ ► But I'm thinking maybe I should to do you have any preference between steel and aluminum or gold. [TS]
◼ ► More not go out at night which everyone which everyone is best is usually my my to change my attitude been buying [TS]
◼ ► WAIT WHAT say this again by nicer by twice by NASA part twice means by the nice one otherwise he's going to end up [TS]
◼ ► buying two anyway because you couldn't buy the nice one litre OK. Or you will have to buy twice. [TS]
◼ ► I see that I say or you may have to cause a break so you may have to cause you to start not having the correct one. [TS]
◼ ► You should buy one steal watch or buy two of them when was interpreted that I was the math used. Other To be fair. [TS]
◼ ► Which is the better one with the steel vs the aluminum probably I'll get whichever one looks more up. [TS]
◼ ► If you don't want shiny shiny then you want to loom and I'm like you want to go like a well very interesting. [TS]
◼ ► I look forward to following up on this. In the future Toji the. Enjoy the second part of that rant. I. [TS]
◼ ► It was so shocked at first. That's crack on with follow up. We got a lot to do today. Magna Carta. [TS]
◼ ► and things like that for perfectly one hundred percent legitimate reasons. I never questioned the reasons of such. [TS]
◼ ► and you probably didn't need to like have Anyway let's not go there again. You may be right that they milked it for P.R. [TS]
◼ ► but a photo shoot that they did with the pair of koalas lounging around in the first class cabin. [TS]
◼ ► And they actually just put them in crates and put them in the hole for when they actually move them. [TS]
◼ ► That to me is what I what I think of when someone says Oh you did it for P.R. Reasons right is oh here we go. [TS]
◼ ► Let the koalas eat some eucalyptus in first class. Take some pictures. Down in the hole you go. [TS]
◼ ► But that's kind of what I think I think in the case of the Magna Carta because they were there how do you get in the [TS]
◼ ► and you could not contain the paper that all the thought surely the best way to do it would be to have it in like a [TS]
◼ ► and you'd slide it into some sort of show for covered like where the Ashes test was put all their stuff. [TS]
◼ ► And that's kind of the for trying it like it has its own Satan they you know it's going to get serve drinks [TS]
◼ ► and stuff for myself and it did look a bit like. If you were careless you could spill your champagne on it. Yeah. [TS]
◼ ► Like like oh yes that you sitting next to zero. Have you not met my friend Meghna. Anyway. This is anyway. [TS]
◼ ► Let me let me read to see now from Leanne Leanne tells us. I was the think the latest episode how to. Sting. [TS]
◼ ► I recently graduated from the Archives and Records Management Program at U.C.L. At University College London. [TS]
◼ ► And one of the people that came to talk to a string at program was one of the head conservationists in the House of [TS]
◼ ► Lords. Where the parliamentary library and archives to help out all acts of parliament that leave the U.K. [TS]
◼ ► Opes I fly first class in their own sake. Not only that they have to caretake is an archivist. [TS]
◼ ► The act is also kept in a special books that only a few people know how to open the caretakers are also under strict [TS]
◼ ► instructions not to open the box while others are in the room. Hope you found this somewhat interesting. [TS]
◼ ► Thank you I have another e-mail you very organized that you are showing me before. Very proudly. [TS]
◼ ► How you add color coded your printed out notes for today. Now this. Magna Carta was sent to have the US. [TS]
◼ ► As we were discussing. This comes from Marco. Marco says. I went to the New York Historical Society today. [TS]
◼ ► And photographed. This picture. I'm going to send you the picture he sent us correct. It is the Magna Carta. [TS]
◼ ► So they've got insane the bag Nica and head out there are a stone in front of and photographed. [TS]
◼ ► I will never stop getting a kick out of these photos of people listening to hello internet. [TS]
◼ ► Because it is one for the first thing I love about it is and we are not ignorant to this problem this news. [TS]
◼ ► It is not easy to photograph your phone and listening to how their Internet. Because you need a second camera. [TS]
◼ ► To photograph your phone which you probably uses your camera so there are this is a two camera operation for most [TS]
◼ ► I will guarantee there are people who intended to take a picture of their phone with hello internet on it in front of [TS]
◼ ► Until they arrived at the place and took out their phone and went again aren't see that it up [TS]
◼ ► and depressing great today I silo ascended Mount Everest listening to your podcast not to the Top forty I can't because [TS]
◼ ► I was listening on my phone as the any camera had said Marco says Now you can say that hello internet has same the [TS]
◼ ► Unlucky numbers recently and how the number four in China is considered unlucky because of its associations with death. [TS]
◼ ► Sounds like the word for death yeah there there are some there's some similarity in the way that said [TS]
◼ ► or written I think it said. Many are and I and where this came from Joe. He says he sent us. [TS]
◼ ► The flows in my apartment which has the number of which have the number four and such as twenty four for example. [TS]
◼ ► I replaced by placing an eye. Behind the previous floor. Therefore the for change. Floor of my apartment. [TS]
◼ ► A which is a good example he chose because there are so many apartment buildings that don't have a thirteen but anyway. [TS]
◼ ► As most property groups here are owned and managed by Chinese people. So if you until you get that picture they grow. [TS]
◼ ► and then then the going over bet it's twelve thirteen thirteen a fifteen twenty two twenty three twenty three. [TS]
◼ ► I wonder if that building goes into the forty's in the hip a real trouble then with my. I just. [TS]
◼ ► I cannot stand stuff like this. Oh I love a love a level that quick you know. I bet you would. [TS]
◼ ► It would have floors with the number four in it. You just you can't kowtow to this. Pointless. Human superstition. [TS]
◼ ► You just encouraging it. Yeah but then when it goes towards floor thirteen it's going to be entirely your fault. [TS]
◼ ► I just I don't think this kind of stuff encourages people to assume superstitious people right not rational people. [TS]
◼ ► It validates their fears of the number four zero of apartment buildings don't want to put four and. [TS]
◼ ► It must be better if they don't want to put thirteen in it must be bad. I'm never offend even if one elevators do the. [TS]
◼ ► The mezzanine basement. Lower basement and you know yeah and you can't tell wedlock. To I want to get out at L. or J E. [TS]
◼ ► Yeah. Where do I get wet How does get out of this building. Listen. Elevator developers. I have the solution for you. [TS]
◼ ► This is how this should work. The floor. Which is level with the earth. That's at the ground level. [TS]
◼ ► and then all of the floors below the ground. Are negative numbers. So the basement. Is negative one. [TS]
◼ ► What if it's one of those buildings that has like split entrances are like on the north side of the building because [TS]
◼ ► it's on the side of a mountain. Ego out to the ground floor. One flaw that to go out on the south side of the building. [TS]
◼ ► Actually just I could feel you waiting for a monkey wrench into my plans and what he did but. [TS]
◼ ► I'm just thinking of I'm thinking of that building that would usually have this multiple level problem [TS]
◼ ► But wherever it is that the vast majority of people coming to the building for the first time are going. [TS]
◼ ► That is floor zero. The end. Tweet Creo your exceptions pay for. No there are no exception there I was building owner. [TS]
◼ ► You with the building owner. It is your responsibility to set an axis. To set an origin point at which ever floor. [TS]
◼ ► Is most sensibly the main floor floors here if there's any doubt you choose the door that would have had the ribbon [TS]
◼ ► Which entrance are people going to take their picture in front of which is the entrance where people come in I don't [TS]
◼ ► Sad Eyes right now that I'm going to have to banish air from the room. Here is there cuteness too distracting for you. [TS]
◼ ► I can't handle it and she's also going to start getting restless but just so I just say that you know that this. [TS]
◼ ► I'm not lying to you I'm going to send you a picture of have keep She looks right now I'm a put this in the show you [TS]
◼ ► We're having a acute intermission have a look in the King at what we have been pod casting. [TS]
◼ ► I'm going least two seconds Well you tell people the pictures like him. OK this is pretty cute. [TS]
◼ ► And I have to admit that were I trying to pod cast. Under such circumstances. I too would find it difficult. [TS]
◼ ► I know what a hard core code how to grow but you are but if there's one thing that stimulates your emotion chip. [TS]
◼ ► I agree with you that her cuteness is so great that you were under adverse working conditions with it was harassment. [TS]
◼ ► Cracking on like we do need is time for us to come to the burning issue of the last fortnight. [TS]
◼ ► Now people will have heard at the start of the show hopefully a little moment I had today when I went to Starbucks. [TS]
◼ ► The drive through drive thru Starbucks is the one place in the U.K. Where supposedly you can get hot stoppers. [TS]
◼ ► Yeah hot stop is a word invented here on how the Internet by the way but taking the world by storm as all that was to. [TS]
◼ ► And I was a toad they didn't have any as people may have heard. And they have been trying to order a new ones. [TS]
◼ ► and I can only I can only assume the pressure that we have been bringing to bear on Starbucks to put hot stoppers. [TS]
◼ ► and there is a shortage they haven't ramped up the supply in time. And it's causing problems. [TS]
◼ ► I automatically assume that Starbucks. Vindictively and foolishly is pulling hard stoppers. They're saying. [TS]
◼ ► No the heart stopper is everywhere. Yeah you're taking the pessimist. The pessimist live there. [TS]
◼ ► They're going to go for corporate consistency over this crazy frustrating inconsistent system that they currently have [TS]
◼ ► there been a lot of tweets you must be happy with how people have been getting on board with your tweet campaign. [TS]
◼ ► I have been very happy with the number of people who click the Twitter button and harass Starbucks. [TS]
◼ ► I've been giving of a thought to this even though it's even though it's your baby and your issue. [TS]
◼ ► Being the newspaper media man that you are. You have a certain media manipulation skills that I lack. [TS]
◼ ► As some people may know from a previous episode if they if they listen to our advertising moments. I had fractured. [TS]
◼ ► I had printed onto a piece of glass. And a picture. As a gift for gray. Of the reunion swamp him. [TS]
◼ ► And this created some interest in fact one of one of our listeners who lives near the fracture. Factory. [TS]
◼ ► Say the artist and I said to the company apparently Brady from hello internet has had a reunion swap [TS]
◼ ► and fractured it's in the factory and I say and it was still there. And he went to his father take it with it. [TS]
◼ ► This is amazing to me bread is it is my you have. You have imbued this thing with the fame. [TS]
◼ ► So this fracture is now an item of considerable value. I would say so yeah. And it has made it to my house. It is here. [TS]
◼ ► It is a wonderful item. It's Maxine my first fracture I was very impressed by. Now it is a gift CA. [TS]
◼ ► But let's be honest. It was never going to make it integrates house because it will great as it really decorate. [TS]
◼ ► Well it was for this way. It might make it into the house because I would think oh. Was this package from Brady. [TS]
◼ ► But it would not make it onto the wall. You know that's that's the key thing. Yeah. So with Grace Commission. [TS]
◼ ► How can how can you raise money for heart stopper awareness. And what exactly is hot stopper awareness. [TS]
◼ ► Oh stop bucks outlets not just to drive through these you know. So you're probably thinking. [TS]
◼ ► What are we going to do with this money like. We can't give it to Starbucks. Because without these in sign right. [TS]
◼ ► So what we're going to do with any money that is raised. Is donate the money to the children's Burns trust.. [TS]
◼ ► Well that's a bit unfair that way where we're exploiting the children's parents trust for our own purposes. [TS]
◼ ► If you go to the Children's Trust Web site which I have in front of me at the moment there. [TS]
◼ ► And the one by list first is working with others to raise the awareness of burns and skulls. [TS]
◼ ► Including prevention campaigns. And then if you look on the side panel of their Web site at the moment. [TS]
◼ ► They have a an animation of a steaming cup of coffee and a campaign that they call drink responsibly. [TS]
◼ ► Can still scold a small child up to fifteen minutes after being poured over fifty percent of children admitted to [TS]
◼ ► Burns and scouting accidents often require extensive skin grafting and plastic surgery over several years. So. [TS]
◼ ► The Children's Burn stressed. Is very into awareness about the risks of hot drinks. As is say G.P. Gray. [TS]
◼ ► I'm not talking I'm not making any link between hot stoppers and Starbucks and children burning themselves. [TS]
◼ ► And any money we raise is going to be given to the children's parents trust which are doing excellent work for a very [TS]
◼ ► Between between their campaigns to get people to in King hot drinks responsibly and Grace campaign.. [TS]
◼ ► I think it's brilliant BRADY Yeah I think it's brilliant where raising money for a good cause heart stopper awareness. [TS]
◼ ► I have not spoken to children's parents trust by the way that they're not like indorsing us [TS]
◼ ► or anything they don't even know the money's coming. I'm going to die night the money to them. [TS]
◼ ► When we've got it so I don't think that they're there. Rabble rousing with us again stab X. [TS]
◼ ► And if you tried to call them and explain what the situation was. I think that might be a rather long phone call. [TS]
◼ ► Yes we're going to put the link up on e Bay. Yeah it'll be in the show notes. It's for a good cause. [TS]
◼ ► Raising money for the U.K. Burn center. And the winner gets the Mona Lisa. Fractures signed by you signed by me. [TS]
◼ ► And we will be letting Starbucks know that we have done this. Yes. Ha stopper awareness hot stuff or awareness. [TS]
◼ ► You saw there was a story this week about NASA. Yet again. Announcing water on Mars. I didn't see this on Twitter. [TS]
◼ ► The feeling I had which was everybody was super excited that water was discovered on Mars I saw people rushing to push [TS]
◼ ► out You Tube video. Those And I thought all of this fury over it. And I thought we menace. Again. [TS]
◼ ► You know I love space and I love Nasser and I'm a real space nerd. And I don't want to be like Mr paper. [TS]
◼ ► But let's let's leave the cynical side of this aside from Into the. Let's not talk about public relations. [TS]
◼ ► Let's not talk about funding natural ways wanting funding and money to justify and links and massing. [TS]
◼ ► I wonder if they held it whatever this announcement was until then I just think Nestor is turning a little bit into the [TS]
◼ ► And one day some rover is going to go over the crest of a hill. And they're going to find a lake. [TS]
◼ ► Full of fish and trees and everything and they're going to say you're not going to believe what we found. [TS]
◼ ► And we're all going to go early if their water did have the rover is going to splash down into the lake a camera will [TS]
◼ ► And no one will fully Mary when will this they're going to go to water the water. We're going to be. Yep. [TS]
◼ ► I spoke to some astronomers the other day and now say now it's different this time this time the waters you know. [TS]
◼ ► and it's not like historic It's time the waters there and also stuff. You don't need to email me and I I still think. [TS]
◼ ► NASA is turning into the boy cried wolf and they need to maybe they're paying for their past sins [TS]
◼ ► He loves space is getting a bit jaded by the anything there now it's more often than water discovered on Mars is. [TS]
◼ ► Voyager probes leaving the solar system which I think they must the Voyager probes must be on some kind of rubber band [TS]
◼ ► and Norma's list of announcements of discovery of water on Mars. And about a thousand pictures. [TS]
◼ ► Here's my question to you as someone who does follow this more closely. When they have a press conference like this. [TS]
◼ ► How did they how do they treat the previous press conferences that have happened. Do they just pretend like it. [TS]
◼ ► But because they're talking to a bunch of journalists that just want to put water on Mars there may be life on the [TS]
◼ ► Oh a slow news day that's good values that we maybe we could tighten with Matt Damon somehow. [TS]
◼ ► And you don't look too closely at the details or the history of it. This is different this time. [TS]
◼ ► or like that we haven't had a real Bradys paper cut in a while that's today's paper kept telling that water out of [TS]
◼ ► constant announcements of water on Mars is today's Bradys papercut. I'm announcing at the end of the section. [TS]
◼ ► To be clear to people. Actual water on Mars. Amazing. The paper cut is the constant discovery of the water on Mars. [TS]
◼ ► Maybe this one is the discovery maybe this is the big one but I don't know it seems to go way over the last week [TS]
◼ ► or so as it always does that say what happens. Today's episode of hello internet is brought to you by. Harry use. [TS]
◼ ► Harry's offers high quality razors and bleeds for a fraction of the price of the big razor brands. [TS]
◼ ► Harry's is a company that was started by just two guys who wanted a better product without having to pay an arm [TS]
◼ ► Because they own their own factory that makes their own blades. And they ship them straight to you. [TS]
◼ ► They're shipped straight to your door so if you are a social reckless you don't have to leave your house [TS]
◼ ► and possibly talk to someone at the local drugstore awkwardly while they are unlucky dangerous dangerous. Razor blades. [TS]
◼ ► And they have a great modern retro design. Now it's not just read the blades it's the shaving experience. [TS]
◼ ► Gillette a fusion blades which are roughly comparable. Cost about forty one bucks for twelve. So it's half the price. [TS]
◼ ► Now when you go to Harry's to get your first order perhaps that starter kit that I mentioned before. [TS]
◼ ► Five dollars off a fifteen dollars purchase is a pretty good deal. So go to Harry's dot com Check them out. [TS]
◼ ► I don't know if you've lost or guide why I have no idea what you're about to announce the I guess. [TS]
◼ ► That comes up between us all the time where each of us is not able to understand the mind of the other. [TS]
◼ ► Because if you don't think that is but that's basically the subtitle of. Heller Internet. Hello Internet. To do. [TS]
◼ ► Who's talking. Neither understanding the other that my pay the growing title of our show. Subtitle of our show us flex. [TS]
◼ ► If you are publishing your weight on Twitter every day. There is no way I would not be following it. [TS]
◼ ► Of scrapes data from your Twitter feed to compare constantly against mine because you're obsessed with me. [TS]
◼ ► You're lucky I'm not in the tree outside your house with my binoculars trying to see how much you weigh [TS]
◼ ► Don't have maybe I do know exactly how this is going since the last podcast. What has been your change in mass. [TS]
◼ ► I am down one point eight pounds which comes out to be. Point eight kilograms and braiding. Since the last podcast. [TS]
◼ ► My mass has decreased by two point seven kilograms. Well over THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU that's the all time record. [TS]
◼ ► I had have been a fan to show because I'd kind of not been working very hard. So I've got myself into bit of a state. [TS]
◼ ► But I have hit the calorie counting Had I been doing a better running. I'm a bit of an effort. [TS]
◼ ► And I'm feeling pretty good about it. That's amazing. Well. How does now is not. This is this is the top record. [TS]

◼ ► The fact that I had put on a bit too much white. That put me over to start with. And then how does now. [TS]
◼ ► That's the thing that's just intrinsically part of what you are I have found it very motivating. I'm now. [TS]
◼ ► I'm thinking if I could get to a certain toggle white by then I can then set myself a girl staying at that light while [TS]
◼ ► I'm quite pleased I thought nah I don't know if these things with may sometimes I dislike lose interest [TS]
◼ ► and it could fall apart. But as of today I'm thinking wow that worked. I'm going to crack on. [TS]
◼ ► I have done it successfully before doing this so it's making me think. Maybe I'm really proud of you Brady. Thanks. [TS]
◼ ► I'm still not going to stop. Bought. I figure you're not going to start a bot. But now that's. That's absolutely. [TS]
◼ ► That's absolutely great I'm really happy about it. And now. This gives me a chance to pull out my. My suspicion. [TS]
◼ ► Slightly that I was going to mention earlier. But I felt slightly sabotaged on this round because of this pod cast. [TS]
◼ ► I went to see. Not one but two movies. And I would find life. Not worth living if I couldn't go to a movie theater. [TS]
◼ ► And not eat popcorn and other junk while I'm there. And so for this podcast. Since the last time we did the way in. [TS]
◼ ► I went to the movies. Twice. And I've probably been to the movies. Five times in the last five years. So I definitely. [TS]
◼ ► Way over indulged at the movies. To the point where I felt the need to make a note on my spreadsheet. [TS]
◼ ► So that people would understand what happened. But they needed league games and wait. One of those movies. [TS]
◼ ► I had no intention of seeing. Which is Everest. And I was honestly thinking. I wonder if Brady's trying to sabotage me. [TS]
◼ ► But the thing is I'm still quite pleased that I was able to have two days where I told myself I was going to blow it. [TS]
◼ ► I'm super impressed by your weight loss. Thank you if you don't have a few know what he dies then. [TS]
◼ ► You know laughs not worth living so you could to give yourself no he dies on these you get get right back on the back [TS]
◼ ► Mike my feeling that I was able to be down at all with two to ridiculous days. Is pretty pleasing. [TS]
◼ ► But this is great as every Why in that's down is a victory so good stuff. Now. Speaking of Y. and Z. You know how. [TS]
◼ ► When I say something and I say that I haven't told you about and like a picture of something you get really nervous. [TS]
◼ ► Yeah. Yeah I always do. We are about to get really nervous. OK. That doesn't help Brady. Now in a manner. [TS]
◼ ► You'll get through the other and then everything a better. The Has I have an exclusive photo people. [TS]
◼ ► I have a photo of a C G P gray Y. and. And while I send this photograph which he's like. Now here's the thing. Brady. [TS]
◼ ► Before I made a joke about standing outside your window watching you weigh yourself that way. [TS]
◼ ► You made reference to last time not knowing what I'm up to without cameras. Yet what have you done. [TS]
◼ ► Things are about to get kind of with say OK. Well move on with this. While I said Gray a photo of the C.D.P. [TS]
◼ ► Gray way and we are going to catch to some sound effects which will give you a because I haven't just got pictures. [TS]
◼ ► I have already I of this way and. So to hell. Exactly. Knowing. So you. You. Listeners can enjoy that already. [TS]

◼ ► and learn to get things like abscesses she's a she's a spirit. OK Can I tell you something. Yeah I think something. [TS]
◼ ► I have a watch heart rate is a hundred fifteen be permit right now it's just waiting for whatever the hell is coming [TS]
◼ ► Which I'm presuming because I have no idea what you're up to I'm presuming you had penguin noises playing in the sound [TS]
◼ ► What people just heard so they knew before you write a new before you know that it was C.G. Degrade the penguin. [TS]
◼ ► Which included a Y N nine the people at Bristol recorded it for me I was that little penguin doing. Well. He is. He is. [TS]
◼ ► But some of the people hoping met with the communications of crystals have not moved as quickly as I would like they [TS]
◼ ► sent me this footage and said. Someone to be in touch this afternoon to explain it to you and give you all the details. [TS]
◼ ► Nothing. I've sent all these follow up emails. I mean it's not like we're like Major benefactors if there's a you know. [TS]
◼ ► I think the gender test was part of this process. Well I don't all say is city great the penguin. From the photo. [TS]
◼ ► Yeah his last time he was all brown He was a little Angwin check the he looks like his parents now doesn't [TS]
◼ ► and they're breeding for people who have NOT TO cannot see the picture basically the penguin is like. [TS]
◼ ► It looks like it hung itself. It's sort of hanging from a noose. But it's a noose is like under its wing and. [TS]
◼ ► I don't I don't know what it was now. I do know that it's body condition was five out of nine. [TS]
◼ ► It was checked for bumblefoot and had some mild thing on its foot but it was like a mild bumblefoot OK. There were no. [TS]
◼ ► And the eyes and the mouth which checked and I and I also I learned from watching the video that. [TS]
◼ ► Penguins don't like him and Safin linger around with their mouths. Who is a fan of someone else. [TS]
◼ ► Fiddling around with your mouth shut when their fingers in your mouth. Nobody. Cry now you think nobody. [TS]
◼ ► I am only being naughty if that's the kind of thing that you're into which you have just revealed your hand Brady. [TS]
◼ ► So penguin. H two O. Five eight three named C G P gray in honor of see G.P. Gray has had its health check. [TS]
◼ ► I still don't know if it's a boy or a gale. There is still much information that is unknown. But watch this space and. [TS]
◼ ► He's got to go in the opposite direction he's got it he's got to put on some weight gain some muscle. [TS]
◼ ► Of course only to a certain point that's how that works. Although I don't want to hear C.G. [TS]
◼ ► Bigger the Penguins suddenly making excuses that I had to go to the movies too many times. I'm not making excuses. [TS]
◼ ► I fell down on the job and I'm really ashamed of myself like now. I'm walking into the theater. And I'm understanding. [TS]
◼ ► What's happening. And I'm going to pay the consequences. Systems of wait. And as I have discovered. [TS]
◼ ► If you don't eat many carbs. Your body sometimes reacts. Very poorly. To a sudden influx of popcorn. [TS]
◼ ► And then a week later I walked into the second movie and said to myself. I'm going to pay these consequences. [TS]
◼ ► I'm not going to sit in this movie theater and not a popcorn and damn the gastrointestinal repercussions. [TS]
◼ ► You know at the end of Everest. I decided because where US or is right next to a Five Guys. My burger joint. [TS]
◼ ► So at the end of the film I decided I'm going to treat myself I'm going to blow the calorie budget today I'm going to [TS]
◼ ► get myself a hot dog. And I'd like I had steeled myself I'd mentally prepared myself for the note Enos. [TS]
◼ ► The couldn't do it was what I would have died in that he is ridiculous I think he's the keys. [TS]
◼ ► That is not fast food that I thought and I know this stuff school is not a locket but I know so. Sam So that stuff out. [TS]
◼ ► I mean this is how this is how popularity works. They're there they're popular. They make good stuff. [TS]
◼ ► They are perhaps the only good burgers available in the whole of the United Kingdom. That's a big yeah. [TS]
◼ ► It is a big call. But I have spent YEARS. Just realize. Because the. I have spent years in London. [TS]
◼ ► Which again in my brain is like the whole of the United Kingdom. Searching for a good burger and. [TS]
◼ ► It was like Jesus descended from the heavens when five guys opened their burger place in London and. I have to say. [TS]
◼ ► One of the main advantages of doing a low carb diet. Is that technically a Five Guys Burger. Without the bun. [TS]
◼ ► So I can actually eat Five Guys Burgers on my diet which. I'm pretty happy about it because again. [TS]
◼ ► Makes life worth living. I don't feel like a starving rabbit all the time. Could do a few listener a mouse. [TS]
◼ ► First of all I mean we don't always answer questions of course but there was just a question that just tickled me. [TS]
◼ ► So and it was a good one here so I thought. I put it to this numbs from test us. As a big fan of hello internet. [TS]
◼ ► and Grace I guess on Mike to be honest he only wants yours I don't know why he wrote it like that on my country's flag. [TS]
◼ ► Talk about them pulling and pulling it up just to make sure I get all the details rights and OK. But. [TS]
◼ ► Make your first Brady What do you think about the Cyprus flag. Do you know up. I shouldn't like it. But I do. Yeah. [TS]
◼ ► and I think before we speak up it looks like that maybe we should discover that looks are first a tiny fair isn't it [TS]
◼ ► Oh you don't know how would you describe the surface of the Cyprus flag is all white background. [TS]
◼ ► In the center as in the shape of the island of Cyprus quite in a white sheet out a quite detailed map of you know the [TS]
◼ ► It's like someone took the outline of a topographical map of Cyprus. And then they colored it in an orange. [TS]
◼ ► It has a green green olive branches in the same kind of branches that they use for other like oh this is an award [TS]
◼ ► It's below and of reaching up around Cypress a little bit that's what the flag looks like. Yeah. The little. [TS]
◼ ► and that's sort of yeah that's a green colour of course. So my view on the surface flag. Is it should not be liked. [TS]
◼ ► It should not be considered a good flag. No I do like it. And I think. I think the reasons. [TS]
◼ ► and it's always been the kind of oddball it's always been the weird one that has its own map on a. [TS]
◼ ► And a bit like how you could have a group of friends new school one weird friend that always wears a top hat that you [TS]
◼ ► when you look at a whole bunch of flags I think there is room for a few weirdos that you can have an opponent there [TS]
◼ ► we're trying ghosts and they can be the odd ball that wants to look different with the shape. [TS]
◼ ► And I think if everyone started doing it would be unacceptable. But it's OK if one doesn't. And Cyprus Guardian. [TS]
◼ ► Said I could have. Well Cyprus isn't the only one. No I give Antarctica has Antarctica on it more and that's different. [TS]
◼ ► Yeah that it passes the Marilyn point person. Marilyn point and it's so bad that it becomes good again. [TS]
◼ ► And someone didn't get the memo and thought that was a Finnish flag. Yeah I'm not a fan of the Cyprus flag. [TS]
◼ ► But I'm looking at this flag and I'm realizing that I am I am. Unfairly biased against this flag. Right now. [TS]
◼ ► Not so much but because of what it is. But because it's making me think of all of the apps on my i Phone. [TS]
◼ ► In the past several years that have transitioned into. After I conned. That have a central logo on a white background. [TS]
◼ ► Oh you look like these Apple I can't I have to deal with words a bunch of white backgrounds with the central logo. [TS]
◼ ► And I don't think it looks good. So I'm feeling a feeling unfairly harsh against the Cyprus flag. [TS]
◼ ► How the flag was designed and a proposed alternative flag that may come into being at some stage in the future and. [TS]
◼ ► and have a rate of the Wikipedia article which we don't want to get bogged down by the surface flag. [TS]
◼ ► Because that ate into good news even flicked on. Now there's a there's always that to talk about with flags. [TS]
◼ ► So you could turn it into more of just an abstract shape. Just doing that I think would make the flag much better. [TS]
◼ ► Or just go in hard with more detail and pull all the towns and topography and everything on there her. [TS]
◼ ► If you going to be a baby a grizzly go with OK that's actually. In some ways it's not a terrible idea. [TS]
◼ ► So let's quickly crack on to the things that people do while listening to the hello internet podcast Korda this. [TS]
◼ ► I had an email from Rob who talks. Who apologizes for not flying far to jets or driving. Road trains. [TS]
◼ ► Honestly new in high school currently applying to several universities to write the many required tedious S.A.'s. [TS]
◼ ► I listen to H.R. and The words fly by one prompt for the University of Southern California. [TS]
◼ ► Did you have to write like I say supplying to universities where you talk about stuff like that farmer brain is just [TS]
◼ ► blown because I cannot imagine being. I cannot imagine. Listening to a pod cast while trying to write anything. [TS]
◼ ► No in a. Could not the. I couldn't I couldn't possibly do that and I cannot imagine that this person can do it either. [TS]
◼ ► I'm writing this while listening to a podcast and the paper of the universe to be suppressed by that. [TS]
◼ ► That's how you get a place. Well it depends on the quality of the S.N. Now doesn't it right. Because they might say. [TS]
◼ ► Of this makes sense for the kids of that line that's for maybe he's writing in to try and. But to the right at. [TS]
◼ ► All I can remember is that my application to university was different because I was going on a on a different track. [TS]
◼ ► Where in New York state if you knew which university wanted to go to which college you wanted to go to. [TS]
◼ ► They had a way that you could apply to just one school. Way Orly in the year. And I did that system. [TS]
◼ ► I was accepted to it some time in I want to say in late November early December it was before Christmas. [TS]
◼ ► What's the point of this like can I go on to college already. Why do I have. I've been accepted into university. [TS]
◼ ► It was a huge relief while everybody else was stressing out at towards the end of the year about the university [TS]
◼ ► applications and I already had it sorted. But the tradeoff was it did make. Senior year. Rather boring. [TS]
◼ ► I mean you're also an exception because you're on mathematics scholarship obviously. Oh yeah yeah yeah. I was. [TS]
◼ ► I mean you're talking out between with the Don't even go to university. Oh just sign that N.F.L. Contract. [TS]
◼ ► Yeah that I mean the pros. Could have been a whole different life. If I had been in the pros. [TS]
◼ ► If I if I had played in the Super Bowl. Than one. If you hadn't taken that arrow in the NE hey. [TS]
◼ ► You know listen listen the very fact that you made that joke that shows exactly how out of touch you are that is a [TS]
◼ ► And by the end of the weight we're going to have arrow in the near you. Hello Internet T. Shirts. [TS]
◼ ► Said So just what you step. Going to happen. You can get up and you can certainly have shown already. [TS]
◼ ► Here's another email this you haven't quit power. I'm not drunk with power the Internet just. But the Wild West. [TS]
◼ ► Shirt thing all the teaching that was going on with people just up there. People just take your design of a teacher. [TS]
◼ ► Rice red tape shows other people just like oh it's an OS design a nice. Put slap was trying to slap on T. [TS]
◼ ► But there's still people who like eight hamburgers and walk the dog and love their family and go to the movies [TS]
◼ ► and have feelings for the human beings. Right. Of course. What they what they feel about their job. [TS]
◼ ► Like do they feel bad or what do you think they've created a paradigm in their mind where it's like. [TS]
◼ ► Or is it is that like they're guilty secret and everything else about them sign but this is just a dodgy thing they do. [TS]
◼ ► You have to think about them as people that these these these things these Norty people who we often talk about the [TS]
◼ ► podcast you ever think Lucky nicest but they probably have a couple of men talk at the moment. [TS]
◼ ► I may be wrong about this because I have a track record of being wildly wrong about what you think about things. [TS]
◼ ► Because I think the best way to explain it to someone who doesn't create things for a living on the Internet is [TS]
◼ ► Really nothing there's nothing less out. And nothing has been removed from you but it still feels. Unjust. [TS]
◼ ► I think that that's the kind of feeling of of it. I don't totally agree that nothing's removed from into. [TS]
◼ ► I think that is probably one of the nearest comparisons you can might but yeah it's the nearest comparison. [TS]
◼ ► Possible and again. This is the whole reason why you originally invented the word freebooting. [TS]
◼ ► Is this point of disagreement between us. Yeah you feel that it's much closer to stealing. Yeah. [TS]
◼ ► Because I just can't ever think of it that way because so I am less emotionally involved when these things happen. [TS]
◼ ► For example the tea booting which happened recently with the rice. Rice rat and the swamp hen. [TS]
◼ ► Because my perspective on it was a someone's trying to rip off the teacher designs and. They've sold none and. [TS]
◼ ► I care exactly zero. It doesn't really faze me and so I end up not really thinking about the person. Very much. [TS]
◼ ► or livelihood is based to some degree on deception and trickery and I do wonder how do they think about their lives [TS]
◼ ► and I just presume that they have built a mental model where they are acting in an appropriate way. [TS]
◼ ► I don't even think that talking about people in terms of bad guys are good guys make sense. [TS]
◼ ► We are all good people under some circumstances and. We are all bad people under other circumstances. OK. Interesting. [TS]
◼ ► Do you not agree with that. I think there are good guys and bad guys. Yeah I think I think. I think there is. Yes. [TS]
◼ ► And he wouldn't want to get to it because we also owe bad guys yeah in fact guys are people here to ferret out as a [TS]
◼ ► people who do wrong. And good guys. People who do right. Just as well have back up a second there. [TS]
◼ ► If you think that's a very pretty in no way am I arguing for the non existence of good things [TS]
◼ ► And someone who commits torture to me is very likely to be someone who I'd be quite comfortable calling a bad guy. [TS]
◼ ► but that's exactly it right you can imagine circumstances where you wouldn't be immediately assuming that the person [TS]
◼ ► Easily a scenario under which you would think that you can construct a lot of things to justify a lot of things [TS]
◼ ► but let's crack on. You're making sense I'm not disagreeing with a with our teachers because you know that. [TS]
◼ ► but we've got to just go with their brain right with it what I mean. Gray. You told me it was my job today. [TS]
◼ ► If we started discussion about we just found the main part of the now we have not found the main part of [TS]
◼ ► and go to review these two movies are well over a move on what we've been going for like an hour and fifty. [TS]
◼ ► We can move in the fun for you know after the show the people are interested I know I'm not I'm not in the mental state [TS]
◼ ► to talk about the fundamental ness of right and wrong. Tonight. You were the one who brought up. [TS]
◼ ► and their entire lives I was writing like wrong thing for about you know someone cuddling a dog before there is you [TS]
◼ ► Now I don't know if this was deliberate or not because the person who Center is Dutch. This comes from. [TS]
◼ ► This was a very good subject failed to get my attention. Jobs while listening to hello internet cricket. [TS]
◼ ► Student in evolutionary biology and I listen to hello internet. When I have to tedious and sometimes boring work. [TS]
◼ ► I'm currently preparing hundreds of Alpine Bush crickets. To go into the collection of a Dutch Natural History Museum. [TS]
◼ ► This involves pissing them with a needle and positioning them. With more needles for support. [TS]
◼ ► However I also need to take out to their genitals. So you could say I'm fiddling with bush cricket painter says. [TS]
◼ ► I did ask this question and I actually engage in a bit of dialogue with one K. and It turns out. [TS]
◼ ► The pain is a taken out because they are the best way to determine what species of cricket. It is exactly. [TS]
◼ ► And if you are interested grey I can now furnish you with various diagrams of cricket painless is that have been sent [TS]
◼ ► Pictures of cricket pain assess. And we will share some of these in the show notes for people who wish to say them. [TS]
◼ ► OK But wait why does he have to remove it though. Why can't he just examine the cricket penis in situ as it were. [TS]
◼ ► This is like you're taking all the labels. Off of the very items that you are trying to archive. [TS]
◼ ► You should leave labels on Gray That's an excellent question. I just reply. I just replied. [TS]
◼ ► Why do you need to remove the genitals and link I replied to determine which species it is. [TS]
◼ ► Some scientists decided that is what made them different species I'm going to look at the genetics to see if the [TS]
◼ ► species. Really are different. I've included two pictures of the my genitals I have to remove these a coat. [TS]
◼ ► It sounds to me like you've got to get in there and pull them out because they're sort of in these sort of titillate [TS]
◼ ► or pits. Structures. Wow this gets pretty hard. Any males to do send back and forth about the couple to couple. [TS]
◼ ► And it sounds like it's quite a bruising affair. What do you think about the morality of capturing crickets. [TS]
◼ ► Think that Kona regular listeners will know all about an exponent say. It's fracture. And these guys a cracked. [TS]
◼ ► and I print onto the back of a piece of glass this glass has been mounted on to some really light kind of foam board [TS]
◼ ► which can then be hung on a wall or put some arose in your house or your office. There really light. [TS]
◼ ► It's easy to hang them. And they look really good they look the finished you ready to hang right out of the box. [TS]
◼ ► Just to leave our pictures buried in half our owns or on folders in a computer is never to be seen again. [TS]
◼ ► It could be something scenic like that panorama of Adelaide you took from Mount Lofty summit. [TS]
◼ ► Overlooking the mighty black stamp it might be a personal shark like human prey posing in front of the Clifton [TS]
◼ ► Or maybe a favorite astronomy five her head at the Crab Nebula taken by the Hubble Space Telescope. That's a great one. [TS]
◼ ► Because now is when you should start thinking about Christmas presents. Not Understand the twenty three like I do. [TS]
◼ ► Because they are very popular especially at this time of year. And all the orders at their Florida factory. [TS]
◼ ► Ahead assembled. So if you're too late. You might miss out. I think it's an absolute no brainer. [TS]
◼ ► You're probably right now maybe even sitting at a computer you could knock off all your Christmas presents in one fell [TS]
◼ ► Few keystrokes are why you don't even have to stop listening to the podcast you can keep listening [TS]
◼ ► Have at this you're going to get fifteen percent of your first order. If you use the card hello internet. [TS]
◼ ► When you check out. Fraction made a call. Use the card hello internet. I don't know you came from here. Great service. [TS]
◼ ► and do it for yourself your own stress free Christmas get at the why now this is the time where we talk about spoilers [TS]
◼ ► and tell people what course of action a need to take people a very funny about these moments where we review things [TS]
◼ ► and this seems to cause a real a surreal speed bump in people's hello internet listening so what are we going to say [TS]
◼ ► here. This is why if we are talking about stuff that is in the world of spoilers. We put it at the end of the show. [TS]
◼ ► So if you're listening to the show and. We're we're ever going to talk about something that has spoilers. [TS]
◼ ► And we're going to talk about the Everest movie a little bit. And so. Spoilers Ahoy. Turn back. [TS]
◼ ► If you don't want to foster that with the appropriate naval metaphor. Run aground. For years. I guess. There I said. [TS]
◼ ► and goodness after this because by think people are worried that we're going to do the spoilers [TS]
◼ ► and then we're going to say something amazing like. We're going to tell people where they can buy their native show. [TS]
◼ ► That's all it is basically things are going to peter out from here. If it's now as we never could track the stuff. [TS]
◼ ► Did you see it through stuffing your face with popcorn out I'm honestly barely. I'm not going to lie. [TS]
◼ ► I'm not going to lie because I have to explain a slightly awkward situation where the reasons that I saw these movies. [TS]
◼ ► Was because. They were both playing at as I have mentioned in previous pod cast. This fancy movie theater. [TS]
◼ ► Unless it is in a similar environment. Because I hate movie theaters. And so had these movies not been playing there. [TS]
◼ ► So there's a button on the seat. Which brings over a waiter who you then have to tell what you want. [TS]
◼ ► The thing is you feel a bit awkward when the guys getting to know what you want before he gets to the seat. [TS]
◼ ► Because you keep saying. More popcorn. Like I know. I know that I have seen you four times in this base at this movie. [TS]
◼ ► But I'm going to keep asking for another one I was going to say how small are these containers Oh how much popcorn do [TS]
◼ ► The containers are small and my hunger is large popcorn is one of those foods that it does absolutely nothing to C.C.H. [TS]
◼ ► You need just a positive feedback loop or. GIGO sway or savory salty popcorn of America has the only. [TS]
◼ ► That's the only way to go. ICE to go to the movies or someone who would pull a pack of Moe tazes into that popcorn. [TS]
◼ ► But the other the other complicating factor here is that in this theater. You can get an alcoholic drink. [TS]
◼ ► But this is the only time I've ever had like a drink with watching a movie. This also just means that my judgment is. [TS]
◼ ► Additionally impaired. So that any restraint. That I may have had just goes totally totally out the window. [TS]
◼ ► Because it's like yeah keep bringing those martinis over yeah. More popular and body just keep it coming. [TS]
◼ ► This is an experience of the movies. These are going to be glowing reviews. Oh man I love to a lovely idea. [TS]
◼ ► Maybe we should talk about it now because in addition to my enormous gluttony. There is one other common experience.. [TS]
◼ ► It's to these two movies. Which was watching the movie. In three D. Now did you watch the movies in three D. I Y. [TS]
◼ ► Watched Everest in three D. and I watched the Martian in today. Do you have any thoughts on three D. Movies Brady. [TS]
◼ ► It's like it just I spend the first twenty minutes of the movie thinking about issues of three Danus. [TS]
◼ ► but occasionally think as casually things will still come along that within just me back collected [TS]
◼ ► It doesn't ruin the movies for me. ARC and I occasionally find things I like about it but given the choice. [TS]
◼ ► Which we have which we talked about many pod casts ago. That was the first time ever saw three D. Movie. [TS]
◼ ► And then I saw the Martian. And I saw Everest as well. My expectations were that I would hold only holy hate. Three D.. [TS]
◼ ► I was kind of. Surprise that I don't hate it but I also am completely baffled about the whole three D. Thing. [TS]
◼ ► Because it obviously has to add more trouble when they're filming the movie and. My perspective as. [TS]
◼ ► I don't find it distracting the way that you do. But it's like most of the time I just don't even notice this. [TS]
◼ ► I just don't think about this at all and. The only time I notice is when something. Screws up the effect.. [TS]
◼ ► Let's say you have a character in the mid ground who is in focus. And closer to the camera. [TS]
◼ ► But on the edge of the screen is someone in the foreground who is out of focus. The way. The three D. [TS]
◼ ► There's a thing that's clearly wrong because the person in the corner is supposed to be closer but the the three D. [TS]
◼ ► Edge. Three D. Effect falls apart at the edge. And so every time you do a classic like a B. [TS]
◼ ► Camera shot of looking over someone's shoulder as you're talking to another character and swapping back and forth. [TS]
◼ ► Like you just can't do that in a three D. Movie it looks wrong every single time. So I just don't know. [TS]
◼ ► I don't know why they bother with the three D. Movies I just think it adds nothing. And it is a key easily distracting. [TS]
◼ ► I'm not constantly sitting there thinking like this is awful no I go I go I'm not constantly thinking it's awful I'm [TS]
◼ ► just distracted by in much the same way you said what technical aspects of it. Distract me. [TS]
◼ ► or I wonder if that's not working probably because of this maybe it's because of my job making videos. [TS]
◼ ► I'm a little bit more interested in it than other people might be but I just like I said it doesn't ruin the movie. [TS]
◼ ► It sounds to me like you're looking at it like a video I guess the only reason I ever think of A.B. [TS]
◼ ► And the only other complaint about three D. Movies is always feel like they're a little too dim. [TS]
◼ ► I know there is a technical aspect where it's hard to make those movies. Bright. But. So anyway I just like. [TS]
◼ ► If I could watch movies in two D. Just like you I would. I would definitely take it. I will give. [TS]
◼ ► I will give us lights. A slight note. Jumping ahead to Everest and say that. Of the movies that I have seen in three D.. [TS]
◼ ► Everest did have a few shots where it felt like oh OK. This is cool to see in three D. I have. [TS]
◼ ► But a part of that overall I would say like movie makers you should pass. You should totally pass on this. [TS]
◼ ► and so Everest because as regular listeners to the podcast would know I'm really interested in Mount Everest [TS]
◼ ► I always tell Gray he should come to base camp with me on a trip so I'm a real Everest not. [TS]
◼ ► And we've talked about on the pub cost. I went so far. And then I said to cry. If we're going to be in motion. [TS]
◼ ► Why did we do Everest as well. Would you be willing to go and see. It. And you add it to your list so you. [TS]
◼ ► People seem to think I was because I kind of. I jumped on with you and gave it a few punches in the ribs as well. [TS]
◼ ► And I have recommended the book previously so I'm not anti the book as much as gray. Now you're not. [TS]
◼ ► But they selected a little segment where I said it wasn't bad but I would have rather read almost anything else. [TS]
◼ ► As I go and I cut. That kind of summed up and your Of the two of us I was definitely much more hardware. [TS]
◼ ► So I walked into this. I made a prediction on Twitter. Right before I went into the theater. Yeah. Which was that. [TS]
◼ ► I'll just reveal it ahead of time that that prediction was definitely correct. Yes I watched the Martian. [TS]
◼ ► And even had I not been drinking alcohol. I would have thought. This is a fun movie. I like this movie. [TS]
◼ ► I think it definitely exceeded expectations. And this was an interesting case because I think I liked it. Way more. [TS]
◼ ► And I suspected that might happen just. This being constantly aware of the book versus the movie. [TS]
◼ ► In no small part because she was super excited by the trailers and she want to see the movie. [TS]
◼ ► But I also wanted to use her as like a control in an experiment. Yet she had not read the book. [TS]
◼ ► I wanted to see how does she react to this movie. Not having the background information and. [TS]
◼ ► and try to see if she confused now I think maybe the movie skipping over too much detail maybe this isn't obvious to [TS]
◼ ► someone who hasn't read the book exactly what's going on but her is the control was also very successful. [TS]
◼ ► Missing detail that was necessary in this funny I took my wife as well who also had not read the book area. [TS]
◼ ► or you didn't understand what was going on and she said. Not once not what not but that's the problem. [TS]
◼ ► I was I think I probably can't cross rather condescending. And I was far enough. Followed at the top. [TS]
◼ ► I did a similar thing where at one point as we were walking home from the movie. I asked my wife I said. [TS]
◼ ► Did you understand what was going on with the different areas missions. Did you understand why. [TS]
◼ ► There was a spaceship already on Mars that he was going to win how that got there. And she came to me a look like. [TS]
◼ ► I think we may have had a similar experience there. Of. She was taking it as. Do you think I can't follow a movie. [TS]
◼ ► And I was just overly concerned because when you when you know all the details from the book. [TS]
◼ ► You just you're aware of how much is being left out versus how much. How much is in there but yeah. [TS]
◼ ► Because it enhanced the experience of watching the movie. I expected to not like it very much. Oh interesting. [TS]
◼ ► Interesting. I don't I and at the start and in the first few minutes. When the big storm happens on mass. [TS]
◼ ► That is sort of you know it precipitates the how catastrophe. And it was old lad out in there was and there. [TS]
◼ ► And there was big wins are thinking on No it is going to be one of those films that's really loud noisy [TS]
◼ ► and action packed. And I was feeling a little bit like Odia and and testing was very short and very necessary. [TS]
◼ ► I've got a couple of mine effects too but I thought the film was way beyond what I expected it to pay. [TS]
◼ ► My wife also I thought it was really really good. And she had a big smile and a face and said I really enjoyed that. [TS]
◼ ► So I think it was. It was a total total when. I thought the cuts they made the cut they cut. [TS]
◼ ► They cut quite a few of the really big key ones that are in the book. I thought those cuts were excellent. [TS]
◼ ► when I realized we had passed something that we referenced on the podcast we were talking about the trailer [TS]
◼ ► Oh they didn't show the scene where the rover flips over as he's going down the ramp in the in the Martian crater that [TS]
◼ ► And I was like Yup that's exactly what the African didn't show in the trailer because they didn't film it. [TS]
◼ ► But also it was quite true to the book lacks the things that I liked about the book. I think came through. I think. [TS]
◼ ► Came through like his occasional CONUS his sense of humor which I think was the key to the success of the book was also [TS]
◼ ► And the thing that I thought was the weakness of the book which was the sort of two dimensional crappy characters back [TS]
◼ ► Partly probably because they they put in some pretty heavy hitter actors like a like a quality actors to play those [TS]
◼ ► I told you when I read the book all the stuff set back on earth I was like get me back to Mars that's where what me is. [TS]
◼ ► One of the things that I guess I didn't think of when I read the book but was really noticeable in the film and. [TS]
◼ ► Maybe I didn't like it that much. With the amount of technology everywhere that it was really really techie. [TS]
◼ ► And of course at future mass mission will be super high tech because it's the future and already. [TS]
◼ ► Space travel a super high tech but just kind of the technology everywhere I found a bit. What do you mean the just the. [TS]
◼ ► The look of the yet on the or just let you know there were cameras absolutely everywhere and go praise everywhere. [TS]
◼ ► And to be fed the use of those cameras in the filmmaking was actually quite clever. The cutting to cutting to. [TS]
◼ ► That's just going to collect with the battery life on those things how are they charging to meeting those S.D. [TS]
◼ ► You know laptops and computers and technology everywhere. Sometimes And it didn't feel entirely necessary. [TS]
◼ ► And it looked like that paid a lot of attention to detail making the film. And that all just made the film even better. [TS]
◼ ► And just noticing stuff in the background that I probably would have under normal circumstances watching the movie. [TS]
◼ ► And I really like even just a lot of the camera overlays if you look at them you could tell some nerd spent a bunch of [TS]
◼ ► time making sure that the camera overlays look good that are displaying the scientific information on the side that [TS]
◼ ► There's a feeling that killed movies for me which is this feeling like nobody on this project. Cares. [TS]
◼ ► and this was the total opposite of that it felt like every little detail of everything. Somebody thought about. [TS]
◼ ► For the spaceship over the there was definitely some heart put into this movie. Yeah. That Ridley Scott guy. [TS]
◼ ► So the nit picks I've got some but you go first because I imagine that the police won't be dissimilar. [TS]
◼ ► I just want to get it on record First though that. I did like the tone down. Matt Damon humor. I found Matt Damon. [TS]
◼ ► That's that's the way I would put it like I just found him externally likable in the role I found that I did not find [TS]
◼ ► him. Corny. He just struck me as a guy with a sense of humor in a bad situation. So yeah definitely. Matt Damon. [TS]
◼ ► He did were hated Well I mean I joke about my time in but he's often very good that he is a good actor. [TS]
◼ ► I really really do is get the gimmick give me an epic because I only have one which is a ridiculous nitpick. [TS]
◼ ► But you tell me what your I have. I have two minor ones and they both pertain to that ending of the film. [TS]
◼ ► I do think they play it up a little bit too much the celebrations all live a at the end like her a he's alive like I [TS]
◼ ► didn't think I needed to go quite that she must see. At the end in itself a bit. Minute. At the Coney and a bit. [TS]
◼ ► Beneath Ridley Scott. To have gone that kind of let So celebrate around the world. Everything's great her a. [TS]
◼ ► You're up you were you standing up cheering is your third martini and eight wine. As a quick side note. I find movies. [TS]
◼ ► Much more affecting in this. In the special movie theater when I'm also having alcohol as like oh. [TS]
◼ ► All your cheap movie tricks like they work. After a few drinks like this is why. This is why people do it and. [TS]
◼ ► Also I've noticed the same effect happens when I'm in an airplane. For some reason. If I want an airplane on a movie. [TS]
◼ ► I don't know why but I'm just more susceptible under certain environments but yes so I the. [TS]
◼ ► and I feel like oh I'm happy he's rescued of course the whole earth is happy to I was happy you know I didn't mind [TS]
◼ ► And my other complaint is sort of similar in general terms. I don't think they Nyota the ending. [TS]
◼ ► I thought the ending could have been better. I do acknowledge he couldn't end the way the book and. [TS]
◼ ► Right yeah it just ends he's on board and it's just that and that was a classy ending for the book. [TS]
◼ ► And I don't think he could have ended the film that way. I do think. Because there's so much peril about getting home. [TS]
◼ ► I do think we needed for a film we need to see what me back on Earth. As we did. But I just think. [TS]
◼ ► I don't know I'm not saying I've got a lot of better ideas but I just think the end. Could have been better. [TS]
◼ ► There are a few things about the ending I liked a lot of the moment when. All the trainees were joking past. [TS]
◼ ► when what he does get back to earth he is this like super hero he is this near LOM strong that everyone wants to make [TS]
◼ ► him. And I just think the ending was a little bit flabby. And they didn't Nial it. They did well it didn't ruin a. [TS]
◼ ► But I didn't Iowa. You know. I do agree with that. It was fine. Yeah. I was watching it thinking. [TS]
◼ ► Yeah I think you could do the exact same thing with just edit it within an inch of its life [TS]
◼ ► and you'd be fine because the movies over it like we need to just get out of the theater as fast as possible taught by [TS]
◼ ► Because you know when when Matt Damon then goes into the room with the astronauts and gives them a little lecture. [TS]
◼ ► There are a couple of humorous moments and the end of that same with I'll put their hands up is really good. [TS]
◼ ► Preaching to us a little bit too much message and you know use you science and use your brain and with me. [TS]
◼ ► Yeah that's already come across in the film you don't need to hammer that home we know idiots. [TS]
◼ ► I think you do that exact same scene. But where were Matt Damon is looking up and the cadets are walking past. [TS]
◼ ► and then say any question hands go up real credit yeah right you do it do it in a quarter or half the time [TS]
◼ ► and I think you'd be more effective Yes but is it pretty nitpicky that that is nit picking. But yes. [TS]
◼ ► If you have what your nit pick. OK This nitpick is ridiculous because it would not be practical to do this. [TS]
◼ ► I kept being distracted by how Martian gravity is exactly the same as Earth gravity. I was just aware of this. [TS]
◼ ► It's not an unreasonable decision to make that you just can't constantly show that stuff is lighter [TS]
◼ ► But I was just I was really aware of this feeling of it you just cannot walk like that. If you are in point four G. [TS]
◼ ► I don't know it just it was something I just kept being aware of in all of these outdoor scenes. [TS]
◼ ► Things are different on Mars about how people have to walk differently about how the structures can be built [TS]
◼ ► differently about how you move things around differently. It's a recurring point over and over again. [TS]
◼ ► Had I been directing the movie I would probably have made the exact same decision there with the special effects team [TS]
◼ ► And will never get it right all of the time. So we're just we're just not going to bother. But that was my nitpick. [TS]
◼ ► That I have ever had or will ever However though I mean that was when the film came out when people. [TS]
◼ ► I read articles where people were saying Well well the brevity wouldn't be like that that was a like that was. [TS]
◼ ► That was not an uncommon. Talking Point. At the time of the film was released. I don't know this. [TS]
◼ ► This nitpick to me is almost almost of the level of where your average astronaut isn't as attractive as your average [TS]
◼ ► Mission to mass right I tried to be really honest about a few things like when there was a crisis in space [TS]
◼ ► and I had to Lot repair the ship. As it was suppressing mass because I think I think to little to little mate. [TS]
◼ ► but they had I don't remember the plot box on the way to be employed on the way to mass something hits the ship [TS]
◼ ► And they tried to be honest to what like doing space walks would be like and how slow things have to move [TS]
◼ ► and how silent things have to pay and some of the most tedious. Tedious filmmaking. In the history of film I think. [TS]
◼ ► And that made me realize and similarly in in Mission to Mars when they are making a few last minute changes to the. [TS]
◼ ► and do something to help get closer to mass to say what may I think they deliberately spread that up a bit and made. [TS]
◼ ► Pacing and I'm pretty comfortable with it because it anyone who's watched a real space walk on live NASA T.V. [TS]
◼ ► Like I know this is the pinnacle of human achievement in some ways but it's also has both celebrity. [TS]
◼ ► I get the sense that you would love for me to at some point. Travel to Everest with you are asking. Guy. [TS]
◼ ► I think it would be a good fun trip I did it with my brother in law I went to beis camp in the I went with no i went to [TS]
◼ ► and you know you're a good friend of mine and and. I think there's lots of things about it that would interest you say. [TS]
◼ ► Because just as the film was about to start. You sent me a text message which was something along the lines of. [TS]
◼ ► So the first fifteen minutes of the film is really what that would be like if not the whole rest of the movie. Yes. [TS]
◼ ► Because because after that I knew it was going to put the fear of God into it right there. But the thing about that is. [TS]
◼ ► I don't think you perceive the first fifteen minutes of that movie in the same way that I was one of the opening shots. [TS]
◼ ► No not in a thousand years and my stepping in that helicopter going to that bridge. In that country. [TS]
◼ ► Never never going to happen. But from your perspective it's like oh the first fifteen minutes. It's like a. [TS]
◼ ► It's like a gentle right on the ferry go around. I what I meant yeah. What I really meant was the first fifteen. [TS]
◼ ► Is a semi It was a very accurate depiction of what that walk from look like to buy scamp is like so yes I realize scary [TS]
◼ ► and there are high bridges and. You have to. You would get a helicopter to look like we'd fly that. [TS]
◼ ► But it is it is we don't fly in that airplane that crashed shortly after you were there that one. [TS]
◼ ► And it probably will never happen I know if that but just what I wanted to make sure didn't happen. [TS]
◼ ► Was that all the stuff that happened above by scamp on the mountain did not add to those of us because the first [TS]
◼ ► fifteen minutes. Was obstacle enough. And that's a discussion for for many many of the days. [TS]
◼ ► I'm sure this discussion will be continuing into were both too old to do the trip so that it would no longer be a [TS]
◼ ► Anyway is that aside that aside what I didn't send you to say this is a. As part of my campaign Richards brochure. [TS]
◼ ► I went to say it because I'm in every sincere easiest and I wasn't going to say and it just suddenly occurred to me. [TS]
◼ ► And you internally seemed deeply conflicted about whether you should go see the Everest movie. [TS]
◼ ► And as we were walking around in. And you were hemming and hawing and thinking about it. My thought was. [TS]
◼ ► This is a man who doesn't know he's going to go see the Everest movie and quite soon probably. [TS]
◼ ► You were quite conflicted about it but it was just inevitable that you were going to go. Yeah. [TS]
◼ ► I guess couldn't you couldn't not go. No that's true. And then after I'd say and I thought oh well you know. [TS]
◼ ► Whenever you're saying something you always want the people closest to you and your friends to say it. [TS]
◼ ► And now you know I thought I would want my fellow pod cast mate to say it just so I just so I could totally talk to [TS]
◼ ► someone about it right because your wife didn't go to this one that she didn't know she didn't say it's pretty it's [TS]
◼ ► pretty hard for us to find good spaces of time that we can go to the movie Things days without pretty busy but. [TS]
◼ ► There's probably a good decision probably good this isn't there. So as as the Everest. Enthusiastic. [TS]
◼ ► but like anything you can give you know a lot about what you know more than the average person about. [TS]
◼ ► And it didn't it didn't same to get a lot of good reviews and there wasn't a lot of hype about it [TS]
◼ ► and a bit crappy So I did go in with low expectations. And you know what I thought it was really. Good. [TS]
◼ ► Yeah yeah I really liked it. It exceeded my expectations. All the things I thought it was going to do wrong. [TS]
◼ ► and if I went in thinking it was going to be the greatest movie ever made I certainly would have walked out very [TS]
◼ ► And I kept waiting for it to fail and disappoint me. By the end of good really good really lacked it. [TS]
◼ ► And then I give a. I really approve of I give a thumbs up. Movie expectations are always so critical. [TS]
◼ ► With the best way to enjoy a movie is to think it's going to be terrible. Yeah. That's probably true. What about you. [TS]
◼ ► What's your where you stand. So the average movie is based on crack hours book. Into Thin Air. [TS]
◼ ► but it's it's based on that incident that that same OK All right you've had this to me before about so confused by [TS]
◼ ► because I said to you before I went into the movie I said Oh in this based on crack hours book [TS]
◼ ► And then Jon Krakauer shows up in languages like oh really doesn't know what he's talking about Jon Krakauer decides [TS]
◼ ► being a journalist who wrote a book about it was a key character in this is a ninety ninety six I think was ninety six [TS]
◼ ► in this ninety six disaster on Everest Krakow that was that was a character. So the film is about that incident. [TS]
◼ ► but he didn't like authorize the film I think he's not a fan of the film and quite a few people depicted in the film [TS]
◼ ► or relatives of them. And not one hundred percent placed with this film. Krakow but one of the. [TS]
◼ ► But as I mean he basically I think they didn't buy the rights to his book. But yeah yeah yeah I know many of us. [TS]
◼ ► But I think we can like the company right thing before we can fairly assume that the script writers are drawing. [TS]
◼ ► Extraordinarily heavily from his book about this incident I think for legal reasons they would say they didn't. [TS]
◼ ► It's not the crack I wrote the the bestselling book about it but it's other people have written about it [TS]
◼ ► and have different versions of and. So you can very easily describe and write about this incident. [TS]
◼ ► when cracker shows up I'm like oh Brady doesn't know what he's talking and I can is like OK. [TS]
◼ ► You're using this narrow legal istic sense in which nobody cares about like oh yes it's not really based on that book. [TS]
◼ ► This is your Everest nursery showing my Everest notary and infamous miscommunication on text messages. [TS]
◼ ► And I can say it's based on the ninety six disaster and Everest. A bunch of think we died on the mountain. [TS]
◼ ► Jon Krakauer later. He was on the mountain at the time to write a magazine article about Everest climbing. [TS]
◼ ► Ended up getting the story of his life. And he survived and write a very famous book about a coat into thin air. [TS]
◼ ► and we both really liked it because I read it years ago I had a dim memory of the events of what was occurring. [TS]
◼ ► For the next Aries missions I I was not that level of detail with Everest but I did have a dim notion of it. [TS]
◼ ► Yes and I would say overall I really like the Everest movie. I enjoyed it but I had a good time. [TS]
◼ ► I did not think you would. Why didn't you think I'd like it. I didn't think the story would speak too much. [TS]
◼ ► I can completely sympathize with people who have the drive to do something like that and I can understand. [TS]
◼ ► I can understand wanting to achieve a goal like that and the characters in the people are are sympathetic. And you. [TS]
◼ ► Yeah I feel like OK come on we've got to get you to the top of this mouth they did they did a pretty good job didn't I [TS]
◼ ► sort of fleshing out. Quite an ensemble of characters quite quickly so you. You're engaged with. [TS]
◼ ► Because it's the problem with a sort of stories are there are so many people scattered through it [TS]
◼ ► and it gets to a point where you thinking on his host so to get us to get sympathy quickly I think they did that pretty [TS]
◼ ► Yeah and this was even the my wife and I really did like the book. Our one complaint about into thin air. [TS]
◼ ► Half of the time refer to them by their first name and half of the time by their last name. [TS]
◼ ► and I think it did a better job of having a sense of who's who of course. Doing a good job of picking primary color. [TS]
◼ ► Snow outfits for the main people that you need to keep track of your they require actual moving I did that well because [TS]
◼ ► and they did that well didn't they let us A even though they're all in they say it's and I've got masks [TS]
◼ ► Which shows I have read for the things they would say. Yes. So the so all of that all of that worked really well. Yeah. [TS]
◼ ► The one thing which is very hard to do in a movie. And that I remember being better in the book is that. [TS]
◼ ► Probably about halfway through the disaster when you have people stranded all over the mountain [TS]
◼ ► and various things are going on it's hard to have a sense of the relative location of these people. Yeah. [TS]
◼ ► And says OK I know we're base camp is I know where everyone they're radioing down to is. But then a K. [TS]
◼ ► And then OK we're talking about the top of the Hillary step or the bottom of the Hillary step and. [TS]
◼ ► When he said that the Hillary step they think he's at the bottom but he says it's at the top and that's a big deal [TS]
◼ ► and so I'm a guessing these must be very far apart. But. I don't know if you could have stylistically done it. [TS]
◼ ► When they get together and I like hey we need to talk about we're everywhere this battle is going to take place [TS]
◼ ► Needed to show me a map of exactly where these things were made maybe they could have done a bit of exposition [TS]
◼ ► Well the thing was they actually had something which I wonder if it got caught. If it got cut. But in the base camp. [TS]
◼ ► But the camera never zoomed in and never used that to help me is that as a viewer. Think of like where. [TS]
◼ ► But I would have honestly even just love the little overlay on the screen like a heads up display like [TS]
◼ ► but it just might have been it might have been too distracting is that was perhaps maybe my. [TS]
◼ ► My main complaint has made a comment because I'd do understand all that quite well and therefore you have a ridiculous. [TS]
◼ ► but I actually thought they did that OK LOT I thought basically what they did was they just stripped all away [TS]
◼ ► and it did get to a point where I felt like that is had by scant which we all knew was far away and. [TS]
◼ ► This thing called the Hillary step which was a tricky little bottleneck. And then the some medium camp. [TS]
◼ ► There was just this of a camp that I was trying to get down to that was safer. So I thought they kind of did. Simplify. [TS]
◼ ► But you. Evidence they didn't. Yeah yeah. I am aware that they simplified it. But yes I would say that it was. [TS]
◼ ► I don't think you could have simplified it further without losing what's actually happening right now just having to [TS]
◼ ► I could have used a little bit more hand-holding about the precise locations of these of these various people. [TS]
◼ ► It completely changed my opinion of people who climb Mount Everest and took it from. The level of say. [TS]
◼ ► Are pretty close in accomplishments. And it took it down syndrome many notches. To basically slightly above. [TS]
◼ ► Fancy adventure holiday. And that. That's where there's now ranks. In my brain that this is. [TS]
◼ ► This is a high high on the level of adventure holiday. But you know what. It's something that. [TS]
◼ ► And the main reason of course is Sherpas rather have basically didn't have any notion of Sherpas. [TS]
◼ ► Before I read Into Thin Air and. It's because people who climb Everest. Often leave out. This detail about Sherpas. [TS]
◼ ► I think I may have mentioned on the podcast previously. We had a woman who climbed Mount Everest. [TS]
◼ ► Come give a talk at one of my schools. And I'm sitting there in the back listening to her give the talk. [TS]
◼ ► And she gives the impression as though she was there with her ice picks. Pulling herself up by her arms. [TS]
◼ ► And it was like all of the energy got totally sucked out of the room like oh you're not really climbing this mountain. [TS]
◼ ► and hang on to the right to put it simply. But then when things go. Wrong. If you're not a mess. [TS]
◼ ► If you're not a mountain air and haven't got certain skills then that's. That's when those people get found out. [TS]
◼ ► This is sort of the famous thing is and that's the that's the that's the moral of the stories and. [TS]
◼ ► Yeah that was really the thrust in the Book of these people. Possibly shouldn't be on this mountain. [TS]
◼ ► and the meat there are a couple of a wood references to it through the film about you know. [TS]
◼ ► It's not my style contractors' up the mountain right. I mean it's. That's why Rob hope dies row yeah. [TS]
◼ ► Ruffo died because he it was dragging an amateur up the mountain. Because that was what he did. [TS]
◼ ► And that's why they both died. Sorry. I mean he should come away. I think that's glossed over by the film. [TS]
◼ ► That I felt they should have more on screen time I guess obvious that the Sherpas are doing a bunch of stuff. [TS]
◼ ► But even in this movie. This feeling of like. I don't think you really understand how much the Sherpas are doing yeah. [TS]
◼ ► Sarah says. The camera is focusing on the main characters and they kind of give orders to the Sherpas. [TS]
◼ ► And then you know the Sherpas are going out and doing stuff and then when they're going to climb like there's ropes [TS]
◼ ► and things there. Again. There's not time to show all of this. But if anybody gets short changed. [TS]
◼ ► Relative to the amount of work they're doing. It is the Sherpas by by by far. I missed of course this tree. [TS]
◼ ► Oh definitely trying to share because I absolutely here is of Everest. With Without a doubt without a doubt. [TS]
◼ ► So the only thing. I wish I could have remembered. The book better. When I was watching the movie because. [TS]
◼ ► My main other memory of reading that book was that this disaster. Was an excellent example of how. [TS]
◼ ► A number of very small problems. None of which are problems on their own can compound into a total disaster. [TS]
◼ ► I was kind of hoping to be reminded of what the details were of how this went wrong and how this went wrong [TS]
◼ ► and look up what those details were that they were they were just slightly short of oxygen at this point. [TS]
◼ ► and like none of these things on their own would have been a problem. But all of them together. [TS]
◼ ► I think in the movie you got the feeling that this was ninety five percent the storm's fault. [TS]
◼ ► And I remember my takeaway from the book was the storm happened. But all of this could have been avoidable. [TS]
◼ ► And I just think those are those are very different feelings to have of like this Everest movie in some ways felt like [TS]
◼ ► That they're like there's a big storm that's coming and it's humans versus the storm. Yeah and that the book. [TS]
◼ ► That is a tragedy of small area and it didn't dwell on the folly of humans it did a little bit but not much. [TS]
◼ ► Not as much as the book did that. The trick to the mountain. At the start as a point to a second ago. [TS]
◼ ► I particularly enjoyed because it was just to the memory line things may not a lot of the shots of the walking [TS]
◼ ► and think you should know that now you should have done that not that there was only one real nerdy moment that made me [TS]
◼ ► Like a lot of a lot of things the nerd and you can say. Can say that's not accurate but I know why they did it. [TS]
◼ ► And someone says something along the lines of Yep it's the same view that George Everest had [TS]
◼ ► and that line really bugged me because it didn't add anything unless they wanted to make it clear that. [TS]
◼ ► Maybe the thing that we're trying to add. Was that Mt Everest is named after a person called Everest. [TS]
◼ ► But George every story versus Is his name's actually pronounced. Never actually saw the mountain. [TS]
◼ ► So to put that law in in almost felt like it was a deliberate wind up. Because that's like a famous face of trivia and. [TS]
◼ ► Even if he did say it which I don't think he did. Even if you did see. He most certainly did not go to base camp. [TS]
◼ ► I mean you can't say man ever struck by Skip anywhere but that's another net. Then the way. [TS]
◼ ► Oh yeah it's named after a guy that I react like I wasn't for then you know you make my point and. [TS]
◼ ► Scott fish a Scottish It was one of the the two guards of the two companies. Both these guys got START. [TS]
◼ ► And I read an article by Scott fish's wife beforehand. Was a very well written article our law. [TS]
◼ ► It's really interesting article she also writes a lot about how if you become like a character. [TS]
◼ ► You lose kind of all rights to self in the film company could just say what they want to bury him with the defend yeah [TS]
◼ ► Bit of a stoner or something a bit of a you know. Hippie told he was careless and. So I went into the film. [TS]
◼ ► Quite a change to that. And the white Scott Fisher was depicted. He was played by check giving a hole in the film. [TS]
◼ ► And I think he was depicted a bit that way is bit of that the wild child in the hip A but also he was depicted OK. [TS]
◼ ► or not I mean it could be a million miles from where he was like as a man. I don't think I came out of the film. [TS]
◼ ► I just want to say that because I thought it was going to be really unfair on him and make him look like a really Dia. [TS]
◼ ► And I think. I came across I came into thinking I locked the guy. And you know. I'm sorry he died. [TS]
◼ ► I've no idea what he was like in real life but I don't think he got a really rodeo in the film. Did you. [TS]
◼ ► Again at as the person with much less background on this my take away from of the character was maybe he was a former [TS]
◼ ► hippie. Or he was still a bit of a hippie. But he was also clearly in charge of the more serious team. Yeah. [TS]
◼ ► I think that's that's the way that the movie portrays him that I came away with the impression that he was. [TS]
◼ ► Yeah hug I came across as bit more of a maverick but he had it work outs. You know he was a was a good climber. [TS]
◼ ► So yeah I mean whatever I just thought it was interesting because the wife had made such a song and dance. [TS]
◼ ► Quite well within her rights to it hits her husband died on the mountain. Yeah that or said. [TS]
◼ ► But I just thought I didn't. I didn't come across come out thinking scarf Isha. You know. If you could have an idiot. [TS]
◼ ► Another graph I had was the way some of the exposition. Was done early on at base camp. Like I know you need. [TS]
◼ ► And you need stuff for people who have no win like me when I put your IP is slightly above dummy though. But like. [TS]
◼ ► When they get to base camp. And it obviously needs to be explained to people that when you climb a mountain. [TS]
◼ ► Then you come down the got to Camp three and you come down and you move up and down to a climate or us [TS]
◼ ► and that needs to be explained to people because otherwise earlier in the film you can be really confused as to why [TS]
◼ ► But the way they chose to explain it was all of these climbers who are about to go up Mount Everest have arrived by [TS]
◼ ► scamp and they go into the tent. And the woman who sort of in charge of by scamps it's the mode am. [TS]
◼ ► They have spent months and months preparing for this trip. They know everything that's going to happen. [TS]
◼ ► That the head of the mission would wait until they're arrived at base camp and then explain to them. OK. [TS]
◼ ► This is what we're going to do. We're going to go up to Camp one. Them again to come down. They know where this stuff. [TS]
◼ ► and not not not insult our intelligence by having all the experienced climbers been told how a mountain is about to be [TS]
◼ ► climbed she's just she's just going over the schedule. That's all that that father was she will you go ahead. [TS]
◼ ► This is so you can a climatized. These people know you always have to go over the schedule Brady. It doesn't matter. [TS]
◼ ► It doesn't matter how many times people here are there are good for the person in charge needs to go through the [TS]
◼ ► schedule one more time. I have I would have been much more comfortable if they used. You know. [TS]
◼ ► One thing I do think the soon get well. Was convey the size of everything really well. And that's where C.G.I. [TS]
◼ ► Really came into its own didn't. You know you couldn't have made this film. You know. A while ago. [TS]
◼ ► and show how small they are in comparison and that's often lost in a lot of mountaineering films [TS]
◼ ► and that that the scale of things. I thought this did a really good job of conveying scale. Oh yeah. [TS]
◼ ► In some ways because of the sheer number of people in the foreground on the edge of the screen. But the. [TS]
◼ ► The reason I didn't think I was going to last film as I thought it was very quickly going to turn into one of those [TS]
◼ ► films where a big storm hits every like I said with a Martian everything was going to turn dark. [TS]
◼ ► Everyone was going to start shouting at each other you were going to have no idea who was her you know the swirling [TS]
◼ ► and I was going to be like knowledge of what's going on just make the noise stop I want to go home. [TS]
◼ ► but they didn't make it to a layout they didn't make it too complicated and they had faith. [TS]
◼ ► but they didn't make the storm this epic howling wind that just completely made the film impossible to follow. [TS]
