00:00:33   the incomparable number 209 just went [TS]

00:00:46   before a team [TS]

00:00:47   welcome back to be uncomfortable podcast [TS]

00:00:50   I'm your host Jason L we are here to [TS]

00:00:52   talk about Star Trek because we [TS]

00:00:53   discovered an episode 200 that [TS]

00:00:55   everybody's favorite episodes of being [TS]

00:00:56   comfortable worry about Star Wars which [TS]

00:00:58   is funny since your host actually it has [TS]

00:01:01   a deep abiding love of Star Trek and [TS]

00:01:03   although like Star Wars just fine would [TS]

00:01:05   probably pick star trek over Star Wars [TS]

00:01:07   if one had to and yet my my own very own [TS]

00:01:11   podcast just doesn't have enough star [TS]

00:01:13   trek representation so we're gonna [TS]

00:01:15   correct that tonight with an episode [TS]

00:01:18   topic suggested by the great moisture [TS]

00:01:20   yon who in true Glenn fleischmann [TS]

00:01:22   fashion has suggested a topic and not [TS]

00:01:24   been on the episode is unable to be here [TS]

00:01:26   but he suggested topics here in spirit [TS]

00:01:28   and what we're going to do is we're [TS]

00:01:30   going to talk will probably do this [TS]

00:01:32   again sometime because there's so many [TS]

00:01:33   topics but this is going to be about the [TS]

00:01:35   best and worst of Star Trek I guess we [TS]

00:01:36   could even say part 1 because we'll [TS]

00:01:38   probably have to do this again and in a [TS]

00:01:40   semi draft format but really let's just [TS]

00:01:43   say discussion a roundtable discussion [TS]

00:01:44   we're going to talk about some of the [TS]

00:01:46   best and worst things and star trek i [TS]

00:01:48   have a fine group of Star Trek viewers [TS]

00:01:51   experts fans what have you with me [TS]

00:01:54   tonight to talk about it i'm going to [TS]

00:01:55   start with the host of our very own [TS]

00:01:57   random Trek podcast that a many of us [TS]

00:02:01   have been on or about to be on it's got [TS]

00:02:03   McNulty hi Scott [TS]

00:02:04   hello I'm glad that we're doing this [TS]

00:02:06   because I don't think there's enough [TS]

00:02:07   Star Trek represented on the internet [TS]

00:02:09   you're with me yeah there's really not [TS]

00:02:11   it's not like it used to be used to be [TS]

00:02:13   all star [TS]

00:02:13   track and now that percentage of the [TS]

00:02:15   internet devoted to Star Trek has been [TS]

00:02:16   going down over time and four-year it [TS]

00:02:18   goes down we need to get it back up [TS]

00:02:20   that's right JJ Abrams help us we're [TS]

00:02:22   gonna do our part Tony sindelar is also [TS]

00:02:25   here by Tony hi Jason I'm really looking [TS]

00:02:27   forward to like arguing about which is a [TS]

00:02:29   better bureaucracy like the Obsidian [TS]

00:02:30   order or OCR so you know yeah it could [TS]

00:02:33   happen that maybe an episode like five [TS]

00:02:34   part 5 of Best Western Star Trek [TS]

00:02:36   bureaucracies or maybe it'll be sooner [TS]

00:02:39   you you heard her a few episodes ago and [TS]

00:02:41   she's back for her second tour of duty [TS]

00:02:42   and a Star Trek fan which is also one of [TS]

00:02:45   the things that prompted me doing this [TS]

00:02:46   episode now it's Brianna Wu hello [TS]

00:02:48   welcome back [TS]

00:02:48   what's crackalackin now we're [TS]

00:02:50   crackalackin again I knew I got my eye I [TS]

00:02:52   now I'm prepared for crackalackin so I i [TS]

00:02:55   have a question are we going to all be [TS]

00:02:57   friends after this episode we are high i [TS]

00:03:00   miss you and your friends you leave [TS]

00:03:02   friends and whatever happens in here is [TS]

00:03:04   just all part of the podcast and it's [TS]

00:03:06   it's all neutralized [TS]

00:03:08   it's like you we rub decontamination gel [TS]

00:03:10   on our body afterwards who tell you i [TS]

00:03:13   will talk about some controversial stuff [TS]

00:03:15   but I was looking over these questions [TS]

00:03:16   and it's tough [TS]

00:03:17   even I wouldn't touch on twitter i know [TS]

00:03:20   i know well we're gonna just we're going [TS]

00:03:22   to dip our towing it and the beauty of [TS]

00:03:23   it is we will all just have a good time [TS]

00:03:24   here the people what's gonna happen [TS]

00:03:26   those people's iphones are going to like [TS]

00:03:28   explode when they hear what we're saying [TS]

00:03:30   be like no I can't [TS]

00:03:31   and that's good that's what makes for [TS]

00:03:34   good podcasting and david lawrence also [TS]

00:03:37   out there he will probably have [TS]

00:03:38   incredibly ridiculous and controversial [TS]

00:03:40   opinions too i would assume just knowing [TS]

00:03:42   you LOL i would assume yeah i mean i [TS]

00:03:45   guess a is as many times as I have [TS]

00:03:46   watched the original Star Wars movies [TS]

00:03:49   and i guess some other things that exist [TS]

00:03:53   in the stories universe [TS]

00:03:54   I've probably watched the wrath of khan [TS]

00:03:57   more times than all of those combined [TS]

00:03:59   that may be true for me too [TS]

00:04:00   alright so Star Trek best of course [TS]

00:04:04   instructor here's how this is gonna work [TS]

00:04:05   we're gonna go around in in a in a [TS]

00:04:08   circular fashion that may or may not be [TS]

00:04:09   perceived as a draft although if people [TS]

00:04:11   want to agree but the point is not the [TS]

00:04:14   point is not that that you're assembling [TS]

00:04:16   a team that you're going to deploy in [TS]

00:04:18   some way I think it's more that we would [TS]

00:04:19   like to come up with some suggestions [TS]

00:04:21   and opinions about the good and the bad [TS]

00:04:24   and that's that's a key here is we're [TS]

00:04:26   gonna do it we're going to [TS]

00:04:27   you some positivity we're going to do [TS]

00:04:28   some negativity and it should be an [TS]

00:04:31   interesting just some discussion points [TS]

00:04:32   having fun as you might if you were [TS]

00:04:35   gathering around the table with a good [TS]

00:04:36   group of your friends who like Star Trek [TS]

00:04:37   to talk about Star Trek except that [TS]

00:04:39   there's no table and it's the internet [TS]

00:04:40   and it skype instead and it's recorded [TS]

00:04:43   and therefore a podcast and that brings [TS]

00:04:44   us back to where we started [TS]

00:04:45   anyway first up is best episodes of Star [TS]

00:04:52   Trek and this this is a level that's [TS]

00:04:55   pretty easy on another level it's [TS]

00:04:56   incredibly hard because you have to pick [TS]

00:04:59   and i figured baby we go around a couple [TS]

00:05:01   of times but i wanted to add let [TS]

00:05:03   everybody pick some of their their [TS]

00:05:05   favorites the ones that uh that they [TS]

00:05:07   think are are among the best and we're [TS]

00:05:09   going to start with our our newest [TS]

00:05:13   member [TS]

00:05:14   Brianna do you have a favorite a best [TS]

00:05:16   episode of Star Trek that you want to [TS]

00:05:17   throw out there absolutely do and just [TS]

00:05:21   get the controversy started its avoid [TS]

00:05:23   your APIs out well max let's just let's [TS]

00:05:26   do this [TS]

00:05:27   I have a Voyager episode of my list to [TS]

00:05:29   actually so yeah [TS]

00:05:31   ouu misfiled to change but it's all [TS]

00:05:35   right here we go get on type one of my [TS]

00:05:38   one of my favorite episodes voyager is [TS]

00:05:41   course oblivion and we can just spoil [TS]

00:05:44   everything yes you're right okay so [TS]

00:05:46   basically what happens is it the episode [TS]

00:05:49   starts off and character slowly start to [TS]

00:05:52   die over the course of the episode and [TS]

00:05:54   you find out that they are every member [TS]

00:05:57   of wager is basically a copied member of [TS]

00:06:01   the actual curve ledger that have been [TS]

00:06:03   like duplicated by this like liquid [TS]

00:06:06   thing that came from a demon planet and [TS]

00:06:08   it sounds like kind of a kitschy concept [TS]

00:06:11   but it's a really it's the most sad [TS]

00:06:13   depressing episode of Star Trek I've [TS]

00:06:16   ever seen because your characters are [TS]

00:06:18   themselves their the characters you've [TS]

00:06:21   come to love but they slowly die and [TS]

00:06:24   just kind of disintegrate in front of [TS]

00:06:26   you and the very end of it they [TS]

00:06:28   completely fail to get all this [TS]

00:06:30   information about transwarp technology [TS]

00:06:32   over to the real Voyager so all of their [TS]

00:06:35   lives were for nothing and it's just a [TS]

00:06:37   fantastic [TS]

00:06:38   yes science fiction story you like a [TS]

00:06:41   dark is what I do i do you know I don't [TS]

00:06:43   think I've seen that episode I should I [TS]

00:06:45   should watch it [TS]

00:06:46   yeah I'd like to watch just to watch the [TS]

00:06:48   crew of later times they got you had me [TS]

00:06:52   from they all died you do that had to be [TS]

00:06:55   part of the pitch and there's a demon [TS]

00:06:58   planted with goo that makes duplicates [TS]

00:07:00   which is you know that again that story [TS]

00:07:02   again that's how hard I've true I know I [TS]

00:07:06   i would say it's fanservice but maybe [TS]

00:07:09   that's not quite the right word [TS]

00:07:10   alright course oblivion from Voyager [TS]

00:07:12   that's a good one Scott what do you have [TS]

00:07:15   i will pick I spend more time getting my [TS]

00:07:18   list of characters than episodes so but [TS]

00:07:21   i will pick a defaced 9 episode called [TS]

00:07:25   duet which is actually from the first [TS]

00:07:27   season oh that's a great episode and [TS]

00:07:29   this is the the episode where a [TS]

00:07:30   Cardassian ends up on the this 1d place [TS]

00:07:34   behind on the space station i was going [TS]

00:07:35   to say i have some space station Deep [TS]

00:07:38   Space nine would be the space station [TS]

00:07:39   and he has he's suffering from a disease [TS]

00:07:42   but no one knows why he's there [TS]

00:07:44   it turns out the he could only get the [TS]

00:07:46   disease if he were on bayshore was [TS]

00:07:50   occupied and if he was in this [TS]

00:07:51   particular site of this this massacre [TS]

00:07:54   but he says that he wasn't there it [TS]

00:07:58   wasn't him and Karen Reese is doesn't [TS]

00:08:02   believe him and it turns out at the end [TS]

00:08:04   that he is the guy who orchestrated this [TS]

00:08:05   whole massacre and he's here he's very [TS]

00:08:09   unhappy man and he wants to kill him and [TS]

00:08:12   it's it's it's just a great episode and [TS]

00:08:14   I think Karen Reese really comes into [TS]

00:08:16   her own as a character that episode and [TS]

00:08:18   there's a lot of tense scenes and it's [TS]

00:08:22   fantastic i like that one a lot that's [TS]

00:08:24   really that was that was the episode [TS]

00:08:26   that made me sit up and take notice the [TS]

00:08:28   Deep Space nine was going to do some [TS]

00:08:29   things that were not necessarily what [TS]

00:08:31   the next generation was going to do [TS]

00:08:33   yeah I really like that upset to see [TS]

00:08:36   we're all getting along the calm before [TS]

00:08:40   the storm [TS]

00:08:41   Tony I'll at the top of my list is also [TS]

00:08:45   a Cardassian episode but a next-gen [TS]

00:08:47   Cardassian episode a chain of command [TS]

00:08:49   which is a two-parter so I guess pick [TS]

00:08:51   one of them to pick an episode [TS]

00:08:52   no command Part 2 which is the famous [TS]

00:08:55   episode where Picard is on like a secret [TS]

00:08:57   mission well there's like a diplomatic [TS]

00:08:58   meeting with the Kardashians and he gets [TS]

00:09:00   captured and he is interrogated their [TS]

00:09:02   these long scenes where the [TS]

00:09:03   interrogators like trying to break him [TS]

00:09:04   down and Picard wishes he will not break [TS]

00:09:07   and it's the the famous line you know [TS]

00:09:08   there are four lights when the [TS]

00:09:10   Cardassian trying to get him over and [TS]

00:09:11   over again to say that there are five [TS]

00:09:12   lights when there are only four legs and [TS]

00:09:16   you know it's relatively targets for [TS]

00:09:18   Star Trek episodes go those are some of [TS]

00:09:19   the ones that i liked or I find the most [TS]

00:09:22   interesting even if they are sometimes [TS]

00:09:24   not the most are tricky but i think that [TS]

00:09:26   was a great one it you know yeah my [TS]

00:09:28   favorite place you get Ronnie Cox as the [TS]

00:09:31   fill-in captain on the enterprise and [TS]

00:09:34   data briefly gets promoted he gets to [TS]

00:09:36   wear red red uniformly it goes he goes [TS]

00:09:39   to like a different shift structure for [TS]

00:09:41   the bridge which upsets everybody that [TS]

00:09:42   there's you there's new nothing really [TS]

00:09:44   is more exciting than starship time you [TS]

00:09:47   know time management and Leslie [TS]

00:09:50   fascinating [TS]

00:09:51   yeah with my god what but what do you [TS]

00:09:53   mean there's gonna be three ships [TS]

00:09:54   instead of two shifts [TS]

00:09:56   well I'd like to do it that way jerks [TS]

00:09:58   and all the way by the way Troy put on [TS]

00:10:00   the uniform right that's this episode [TS]

00:10:02   isn't it i think it is like nobody likes [TS]

00:10:05   rocks also what I remember is that it's [TS]

00:10:07   the most ill-conceived mission and one [TS]

00:10:10   which he gets captured it's like Picard [TS]

00:10:12   and crusher wearing like little [TS]

00:10:14   jumpsuits in a in a glary cave and then [TS]

00:10:17   it all goes wrong because it's all been [TS]

00:10:18   a setup but it seems like an unknown [TS]

00:10:21   unplanned poorly planned secret mission [TS]

00:10:23   well there is the premise that was kind [TS]

00:10:25   of it was supposed to be a trap to get [TS]

00:10:26   the card because they that he had the [TS]

00:10:28   secret you know fleet knowledge that he [TS]

00:10:30   did but i would not send Picard on any [TS]

00:10:32   secret missions I feel like there's [TS]

00:10:35   other people that i consider way [TS]

00:10:37   purchase multiple myeloma I'm like I [TS]

00:10:39   feel like he's just not you know he's [TS]

00:10:41   more about you know let's keep them on [TS]

00:10:43   the bridge making decisions up there and [TS]

00:10:45   not like let's send him down into a [TS]

00:10:47   spooky cave full of Cardassian who want [TS]

00:10:49   to kill him [TS]

00:10:50   are you saying you can't imagine Picard [TS]

00:10:52   fighting a Gorn because I could totally [TS]

00:10:54   imagine that that would be cool like to [TS]

00:10:56   Gorn I don't think you can fight to Gord [TS]

00:10:58   feel like one got one Corran is the [TS]

00:11:00   limit [TS]

00:11:01   he would out he would help think them [TS]

00:11:04   totally yeah I can see that so you think [TS]

00:11:07   he could be like for Gorn at least 10 at [TS]

00:11:10   least they're off all going to be to [TS]

00:11:14   just let me know if he can handle an [TS]

00:11:16   awesome he can handle the Gorn well but [TS]

00:11:18   that was a younger Picard right and also [TS]

00:11:20   he didn't totally handle it [TS]

00:11:22   yeah they're I don't I don't I don't [TS]

00:11:24   want to ruin that episode for you if you [TS]

00:11:26   only seen the first like minute and a [TS]

00:11:27   half of it [TS]

00:11:28   wow this fight is going really well let [TS]

00:11:30   me change the chapel [TS]

00:11:32   I ready to read the watch what watch the [TS]

00:11:34   rest of this episode he's totally got [TS]

00:11:35   the situation under control [TS]

00:11:37   I'm just saying when when admiral ackbar [TS]

00:11:39   send him on this mission we should have [TS]

00:11:41   known it was a trap [TS]

00:11:42   that's all I'm referencing Thank You [TS]

00:11:44   million little star wars like the route [TS]

00:11:46   through some star wars in there for [TS]

00:11:47   people who are feeling starved of Star [TS]

00:11:49   Wars that's fanservice yeah that's a [TS]

00:11:52   good just helping out come out and [TS]

00:11:54   thrown under the bus earlier and bring [TS]

00:11:56   it back now David yeah well done Tony [TS]

00:12:01   david i-i that's one where I think [TS]

00:12:04   there's like a core of it that's pretty [TS]

00:12:05   good and there's a bunch of stuff in it [TS]

00:12:06   that's kinda weird and strange and yeah [TS]

00:12:08   the B plot [TS]

00:12:09   I mean maybe plot in a lot of next-gen [TS]

00:12:11   episodes is like might as well like for [TS]

00:12:13   half of it it could be like you know [TS]

00:12:15   data and Geordi decide enter a science [TS]

00:12:17   fair [TS]

00:12:17   yeah they can find spot it's never [TS]

00:12:21   looked like this for ya [TS]

00:12:22   meanwhile Picard is being torn in one of [TS]

00:12:26   the border invading or you know intense [TS]

00:12:28   diplomatic negotiations with the [TS]

00:12:30   Kardashians face returns the bridge [TS]

00:12:32   after his terrible experience being [TS]

00:12:34   tortured and psychologically humiliated [TS]

00:12:36   and a striker [TS]

00:12:37   so what happened while I was gone and [TS]

00:12:39   they say well data lost his cat for a [TS]

00:12:40   while I hate that I hate all of the data [TS]

00:12:44   is on trial over his humanity be plot [TS]

00:12:46   represents knocks yeah right records to [TS]

00:12:50   polish the trombone a little bit that [TS]

00:12:52   that's a hey now hey David it's your [TS]

00:12:56   term but you have a well I've gotten [TS]

00:12:59   into more arguments about this only only [TS]

00:13:03   because only because the default answer [TS]

00:13:06   is the city on the edge of forever [TS]

00:13:08   yes my favorite of all time and and I [TS]

00:13:13   mean I love the classic series is a [TS]

00:13:15   series [TS]

00:13:17   as a group of it but my all-time [TS]

00:13:19   favorite episode is a Deep Space nine [TS]

00:13:21   Episode oh my god the visitor that's the [TS]

00:13:25   one where it starts off where this this [TS]

00:13:28   woman is knocking on a door in in the [TS]

00:13:31   rain and this elderly man opens the door [TS]

00:13:34   and it turns out to be Jake Sisko and [TS]

00:13:37   he's a reclusive author and she's trying [TS]

00:13:40   to find out why is he recluse why did he [TS]

00:13:43   stop writing what happened [TS]

00:13:45   and as he grudgingly let Syria and tells [TS]

00:13:50   the story of what happened we find out [TS]

00:13:52   that he lost his father years and years [TS]

00:13:55   ago decades ago during a freak [TS]

00:13:58   experiment on deep space 9 and he [TS]

00:14:01   continued to live on the station and [TS]

00:14:03   every few years [TS]

00:14:05   cisco would appear to him on the station [TS]

00:14:08   but they couldn't communicate it was [TS]

00:14:10   just sort of feels kind of like Kirk in [TS]

00:14:12   the Tholian web i guess yeah and [TS]

00:14:14   eventually they start to realize there's [TS]

00:14:18   a way to bring him back and maybe they [TS]

00:14:21   could and you know it sort of it's a lot [TS]

00:14:23   of science fiction mumbo-jumbo as Star [TS]

00:14:26   Trek has want to do but at the core is [TS]

00:14:29   just this amazing meditation on fathers [TS]

00:14:33   and sons and that relationship and what [TS]

00:14:35   it means to connect across time and [TS]

00:14:40   across generations literally and of [TS]

00:14:44   course in the end everything is saved [TS]

00:14:46   and x put right and Jake is back to [TS]

00:14:48   being a teenager on the station but it's [TS]

00:14:51   just a beautifully written episode [TS]

00:14:53   yeah I love that one I just watched a [TS]

00:14:56   couple years ago [TS]

00:14:57   it's a really good one I've ever seen it [TS]

00:14:59   but you solved it to its great that's [TS]

00:15:01   not going to be I Patrick out this [TS]

00:15:03   podcast and like like course oblivion [TS]

00:15:05   it's one of those things where they take [TS]

00:15:06   you into the future and it's this it's [TS]

00:15:08   uuc up you see a path that isn't [TS]

00:15:10   actually taken by the main characters [TS]

00:15:12   it's rewritten but it's a beautiful [TS]

00:15:13   thing to see that and and it doesn't it [TS]

00:15:17   doesn't hit the same old story beats [TS]

00:15:19   which I like I mean I love star trek it [TS]

00:15:23   kills me when I give up on a Star Trek [TS]

00:15:25   series but that one's that's absolutely [TS]

00:15:29   my favorite episode [TS]

00:15:30   which surprised me to the great one [TS]

00:15:34   yeah i think it's my turn huh so what am [TS]

00:15:36   I going to choose this is so hard [TS]

00:15:38   I sitting on the edge of time I think [TS]

00:15:39   well know if I was gonna choose original [TS]

00:15:41   series i was actually going to go [TS]

00:15:42   trouble with tribbles and I i mean i was [TS]

00:15:45   a oh yeah I was a read more convinced of [TS]

00:15:47   this than ever then last summer when i [TS]

00:15:49   was in Portland I got to see trek in the [TS]

00:15:50   park where they did it in a park in the [TS]

00:15:53   middle of portland oregon they did a [TS]

00:15:54   live staging every summer for five years [TS]

00:15:56   they did all life stages of Star Trek [TS]

00:15:58   episode and they did trouble with [TS]

00:15:59   tribbles and I was reminded of just how [TS]

00:16:01   wacky and funny and like it is singing [TS]

00:16:05   on stage you can see with it with an [TS]

00:16:07   audience and with actors who know the [TS]

00:16:08   material that it is it is like a [TS]

00:16:12   crowd-pleasing legitimately funny thing [TS]

00:16:15   it's a great funny piece of writing with [TS]

00:16:18   these broad characters that we've come [TS]

00:16:19   to know and love and see them in these [TS]

00:16:21   situations and the Klingons are the butt [TS]

00:16:23   of the jokes and the bureaucrats in the [TS]

00:16:24   butt of the jokes but I'm not gonna pick [TS]

00:16:27   the trouble with tribbles [TS]

00:16:28   oh maybe if we do a second i'm not [TS]

00:16:31   because i have to pick Darmok front next [TS]

00:16:34   generation which I I i love this episode [TS]

00:16:38   dearly [TS]

00:16:38   there was a kerfuffle on the internet a [TS]

00:16:40   little while ago about somebody wrote [TS]

00:16:42   about how is so overrated and and the [TS]

00:16:45   thing is the the beauty of this episode [TS]

00:16:47   not only is there the story about the [TS]

00:16:49   The the captain of the other ship that [TS]

00:16:52   who sacrifices himself in order to forge [TS]

00:16:57   a connection he risked his life and in [TS]

00:16:59   fact gives his life to forge a [TS]

00:17:00   connection between their planet and the [TS]

00:17:02   Federation you know this crazy thing [TS]

00:17:05   that needs to be done just in order to [TS]

00:17:07   to make this connection but what's [TS]

00:17:11   really amazing is the first thing you [TS]

00:17:12   see with the aliens talking to the [TS]

00:17:14   bridge of the enterprise they say all [TS]

00:17:15   sorts of crazy things that nobody [TS]

00:17:17   understands there like you know Chin's [TS]

00:17:19   at court and he soaked at his his eyes [TS]

00:17:22   black his face red whatever it is right [TS]

00:17:24   at the very end it this episode is [TS]

00:17:27   bookended by a scene where once again [TS]

00:17:30   there on the screen of the enterprise [TS]

00:17:32   saying all this stuff and although Riker [TS]

00:17:35   is there and doesn't understand any of [TS]

00:17:36   it the card has just come back and he [TS]

00:17:39   understands everywhere they're saying [TS]

00:17:40   and we as an audience understand ever [TS]

00:17:42   word they're saying because in the [TS]

00:17:43   course of this episode we've learned [TS]

00:17:46   what all their metaphor for zar and what [TS]

00:17:48   they mean and so not only we taking this [TS]

00:17:50   kind of emotional journey where the [TS]

00:17:52   captain and the card have to fight down [TS]

00:17:54   the fight this beast down on the planet [TS]

00:17:56   and and the the captain dies but they [TS]

00:17:58   they sort of exchange stories before he [TS]

00:18:01   dies overnight and then the card comes [TS]

00:18:03   in to save the day at the end but we [TS]

00:18:05   also has an audience take this journey [TS]

00:18:06   about this straight language and [TS]

00:18:09   metaphor and yeah if you tried to apply [TS]

00:18:11   this scientifically it wouldn't make any [TS]

00:18:12   sense but it's kind of a beautiful story [TS]

00:18:14   of language and metaphor and then on top [TS]

00:18:16   of it I just it's quite a magic trick I [TS]

00:18:18   think for you to go in 40 minutes from [TS]

00:18:19   having this complete nonsense and at the [TS]

00:18:22   end you know exactly what they're saying [TS]

00:18:23   it's really a great trick and I'm blown [TS]

00:18:26   away everytime i see it so i have to [TS]

00:18:28   pick it so you're saying you'd like that [TS]

00:18:30   episode I love it took a little bit it's [TS]

00:18:34   ok little that it's alright [TS]

00:18:35   yeah it's already Picard how ok so [TS]

00:18:38   here's my complaint about that episode [TS]

00:18:39   this is the episode where we get the [TS]

00:18:40   equivalent of Kirk's blouse what it was [TS]

00:18:43   when Steve let's call it the fact that [TS]

00:18:44   blouse for 47 Creek this is because [TS]

00:18:47   leather jacket it's like comes out of [TS]

00:18:49   nowhere and he's like I think i will now [TS]

00:18:51   have a leather jacket on and put waited [TS]

00:18:53   like it's in Darmok I don't know why [TS]

00:18:54   it's there but but yeah your card you [TS]

00:18:56   can do what you want wear leather jacket [TS]

00:18:59   don't care and I i remember the time [TS]

00:19:01   thinking how can this be this good this [TS]

00:19:04   is a guy who wrote for wings haha fine [TS]

00:19:08   said come jovanovski no philippines [TS]

00:19:12   ethnic now jovanovski road Dharma up but [TS]

00:19:17   the story came from it was one of those [TS]

00:19:20   spec scripts that came in osky I'm sure [TS]

00:19:22   is that it's got German oskis prints all [TS]

00:19:25   over he wrote he wrote some of the [TS]

00:19:26   weirdest episodes of the next generation [TS]

00:19:28   later on including masks which is the [TS]

00:19:30   the most crazy Basque for end of episode [TS]

00:19:34   ever how that's such a high threshold [TS]

00:19:36   though okc TNG episode that's quite an [TS]

00:19:39   accomplishment that's the and what [TS]

00:19:44   somebody in the chatroom just said [TS]

00:19:45   Darmok ask too much of the viewer and [TS]

00:19:46   I'd say that's why i love it is it [TS]

00:19:48   actually asked something of the viewer [TS]

00:19:50   and I think it's a beautiful thing [TS]

00:19:51   sure uh let's let us go around we might [TS]

00:19:54   do another best up [TS]

00:19:55   so that was a lot of fun but i want i [TS]

00:19:56   wanna i wanna bring out the bad ones now [TS]

00:19:58   let's be negative but let's yeah let's [TS]

00:20:00   let's talk let's talk bad Breanna you [TS]

00:20:02   wanna bring out a bring out your dead [TS]

00:20:04   enemies giving something you hate [TS]

00:20:06   so there's nothing I fight about in my [TS]

00:20:08   marriage more than my husband who loves [TS]

00:20:11   tos and I hate it and so I have I've [TS]

00:20:15   over the coast of being married to him [TS]

00:20:18   i've seen every TLS episode multiple [TS]

00:20:21   times and Spock's brain is the stupidest [TS]

00:20:25   worst piece of star trek in history like [TS]

00:20:30   words cannot adequately communicate how [TS]

00:20:34   bad a script this is like there's a [TS]

00:20:37   little there's a line in this that's [TS]

00:20:39   brain and brain what is brain [TS]

00:20:42   oh yeah you just can't you can I that's [TS]

00:20:45   the most particularly bad line ever its [TS]

00:20:48   units season three is so terrible [TS]

00:20:52   it's so awful this is one of my favorite [TS]

00:20:55   shows of all time and I agree with [TS]

00:20:56   everything you're saying but oh my god [TS]

00:21:00   is just it's it's embarrassing like I'm [TS]

00:21:03   embarrassed for the actors to be pumped [TS]

00:21:05   she'll like I'm embarrassed for like the [TS]

00:21:08   scene like the the pieces of set that [TS]

00:21:10   are there [TS]

00:21:11   I'm embarrassed for the writer it's just [TS]

00:21:13   it's terrible and the people that made [TS]

00:21:15   it should just feel terrible when and to [TS]

00:21:18   think that you know here they've fought [TS]

00:21:20   to bring their show back and and they [TS]

00:21:23   actually had good episodes waiting and [TS]

00:21:26   this was the one they started the third [TS]

00:21:28   season with and and you know howhow must [TS]

00:21:31   have been to tune in and you just kinda [TS]

00:21:32   go whoa what did we do it although brain [TS]

00:21:38   and brain what is brain is a [TS]

00:21:39   spectacularly bad episode after they [TS]

00:21:41   steal Spock's brain but he still walks [TS]

00:21:42   around because they put a little thing [TS]

00:21:43   in the let them control them with a [TS]

00:21:44   clicker without it but but i love the [TS]

00:21:48   line at the end where McCoy has got he's [TS]

00:21:50   like doing his surgery where he's got [TS]

00:21:52   like the colored lights shining up in [TS]

00:21:53   his face and he goes it was so easy Jim [TS]

00:21:56   a child could do it a child could do it [TS]

00:21:58   i love that but it's a terrible episode [TS]

00:22:01   it's terrible [TS]

00:22:03   alright let's take a brief break so that [TS]

00:22:06   i can tell you about something cool [TS]

00:22:08   and I really mean that it's drobo now I [TS]

00:22:11   told you about drove before drobo is a a [TS]

00:22:15   box but it's a company it's also a box [TS]

00:22:17   that is full of storage is full of data [TS]

00:22:20   i used to have but i still have the mac [TS]

00:22:24   mini i have a mac mini in my house [TS]

00:22:25   that's basically my home server and over [TS]

00:22:28   time between music and and videos and [TS]

00:22:31   other if you know family photos that we [TS]

00:22:34   stored there it a read the mac mini ran [TS]

00:22:37   out of space on its internal drive very [TS]

00:22:39   quickly so i bought an external drive [TS]

00:22:40   and then I realized well I need to back [TS]

00:22:42   up this external drive so i bought [TS]

00:22:43   another external drive and then I had a [TS]

00:22:46   a shortage of space might as well just [TS]

00:22:48   buy another external drive and i ended [TS]

00:22:50   up with like three or four external hard [TS]

00:22:53   drives all chained off of this mac mini [TS]

00:22:57   and all of them have fans and all of [TS]

00:22:59   them are clicking and clicking on their [TS]

00:23:01   own way and if one of them freaked out [TS]

00:23:05   they all kinda freaked out because they [TS]

00:23:06   were all on the same chain and they're [TS]

00:23:09   you know they're backing up to each [TS]

00:23:10   other and my god it was what I'm saying [TS]

00:23:14   is it was not ideal I did not like the [TS]

00:23:16   situation and then I got a drobo drobo [TS]

00:23:19   is a single box that's full of hard [TS]

00:23:21   drives and not only that it is a [TS]

00:23:24   protecting your data they protect [TS]

00:23:26   against a single hard drive failure so [TS]

00:23:29   if one of your drives dies you pop it [TS]

00:23:31   out pop in a new drive all your data is [TS]

00:23:34   secure which is really really great so I [TS]

00:23:37   don't have to do the you know super [TS]

00:23:40   duper clone from one place to another [TS]

00:23:43   every night instead I've got drobo [TS]

00:23:46   backing it up intelligently across all [TS]

00:23:49   of the drivers that are in the dropbox [TS]

00:23:51   now it does have a fan it does make some [TS]

00:23:53   noise but let me tell you having one [TS]

00:23:55   device that is optimized for itself is [TS]

00:23:59   better than having a chain of individual [TS]

00:24:01   drives it the whole thing is better it's [TS]

00:24:04   smaller it's quieter it is a I'm very [TS]

00:24:08   very happy with it now you too can take [TS]

00:24:12   control of your storage and eliminate [TS]

00:24:14   the daisy chain and get a safe secure [TS]

00:24:17   large block of storage and a drobo the [TS]

00:24:21   the third-generation drobo is out it's a [TS]

00:24:25   four dr unit so you can fit four drives [TS]

00:24:28   in if you want its usb3 it's got a new [TS]

00:24:31   faster dual-core processor that powers [TS]

00:24:33   it and it is three to five times faster [TS]

00:24:36   than it sold for Bay predecessors it's [TS]

00:24:39   also more economical the original [TS]

00:24:41   forbade Robo sold for 499 the gen 3 list [TS]

00:24:44   for 349 so drobo listen to customers who [TS]

00:24:50   wanted who wanted something a little bit [TS]

00:24:52   cheaper and they have obliged so like I [TS]

00:24:55   said data protection all dromos protect [TS]

00:24:57   against a single drive failure gen3 [TS]

00:24:59   drobo you can even have it protect [TS]

00:25:02   against two drives failing at the same [TS]

00:25:03   time if you're somebody who gets bitten [TS]

00:25:06   by Murphy's Law surrounded by a negative [TS]

00:25:08   energy field you know who you are i know [TS]

00:25:10   people like this i'm sure you know [TS]

00:25:11   people like this to you maybe one you [TS]

00:25:14   can add that extra protection if you [TS]

00:25:16   want to it's optimized for time machine [TS]

00:25:18   you can create a separate disc volume to [TS]

00:25:19   use with time machine and use drobo as [TS]

00:25:22   your time machine drive the gentry drobo [TS]

00:25:24   even is protected from power failures it [TS]

00:25:26   has an internal battery and a small SSD [TS]

00:25:29   cache so if the power dies your data [TS]

00:25:32   won't get corrupted I'm loving my drobo [TS]

00:25:36   you should definitely check them out and [TS]

00:25:37   we've got a special offer for [TS]

00:25:39   incomparable listeners you can say fifty [TS]

00:25:40   dollars off your purchase of any drobo [TS]

00:25:43   model by using the code smell that's my [TS]

00:25:45   last name Snell when you buy at drobo [TS]

00:25:47   store.com now the retail price suggested [TS]

00:25:51   for the gentry drobo is 349 and then [TS]

00:25:53   fifty dollars on top of that that is an [TS]

00:25:56   insane deal great deal check it out a [TS]

00:25:59   drobo store.com the code is smell [TS]

00:26:01   instant rebate fifty dollars off so [TS]

00:26:04   thank you so much to drobo for [TS]

00:26:06   sponsoring the incomparable and for [TS]

00:26:07   making the back of my home server setup [TS]

00:26:11   much less insane than it used to be [TS]

00:26:13   i I just have to say people blast hits [TS]

00:26:17   her for bad writing and I just think [TS]

00:26:19   that we see third season of T past all [TS]

00:26:21   relative it's all relative on people i [TS]

00:26:24   don't think Spock's brain is the worst [TS]

00:26:25   episode of Star Trek the original series [TS]

00:26:27   I've got a list but we may get there but [TS]

00:26:30   let's go to Scott well I have a [TS]

00:26:33   two episodes that actually we i recently [TS]

00:26:37   watched because they were both on random [TS]

00:26:39   tray [TS]

00:26:39   uh-huh so i have to decide between and [TS]

00:26:44   i'll pick the one that David Laura was a [TS]

00:26:46   hand [TS]

00:26:47   yes because in fact it is if it's an [TS]

00:26:51   awful awful episode from Voyager called [TS]

00:26:56   the age in which Neelix's lungs Neelix's [TS]

00:27:02   long as our stolen [TS]

00:27:04   oh I'm sensing a trend here we don't you [TS]

00:27:07   don't like organ that we print we feel [TS]

00:27:09   very strongly the organs to stay inside [TS]

00:27:11   people and this is the first time in a [TS]

00:27:14   random track history although around the [TS]

00:27:15   track has not been around for that long [TS]

00:27:16   where I had to at the end of the episode [TS]

00:27:18   apologize to the guests because i spent [TS]

00:27:19   most of the episodes explaining how [TS]

00:27:21   awful this episode of Star Trek was why [TS]

00:27:26   do you think it's bad [TS]

00:27:28   well it involves Neelix first to call me [TS]

00:27:30   back [TS]

00:27:31   jet that yeah uh the organ stealing [TS]

00:27:35   aliens make no sense the the ibook the [TS]

00:27:39   long sequences where he's talking where [TS]

00:27:41   we don't actually see his mouth so it's [TS]

00:27:44   just this very static shot for you know [TS]

00:27:47   three and four minutes at a time of [TS]

00:27:49   Ethan Phillips lying there that's a [TS]

00:27:51   little holographic loans with all the [TS]

00:27:54   clubs [TS]

00:27:56   it's just a bad episode huh huh i [TS]

00:27:59   thought the ends are pretty good [TS]

00:28:00   that's that's the thing that Vivian's [TS]

00:28:02   they are that they they are featured in [TS]

00:28:05   my favorite episode of voyager which is [TS]

00:28:07   one of my favorite Star Trek episodes of [TS]

00:28:08   all time but this is not that episode [TS]

00:28:10   ok i do love the videos i think they're [TS]

00:28:13   really creepy because they're like space [TS]

00:28:14   zombies there i like them and they're [TS]

00:28:17   they're sympathetic if this is just a [TS]

00:28:20   I'm sad for them that they were [TS]

00:28:22   introduced in this awful episode all [TS]

00:28:27   right uh Tony what uh organ stealing [TS]

00:28:30   episode of your achievements [TS]

00:28:32   well i'm not sure if it's directly or [TS]

00:28:34   concealing related you may have to [TS]

00:28:35   stretch a little bit too but the [TS]

00:28:38   original series episode the impact oh [TS]

00:28:39   this is always so high oh you stole it [TS]

00:28:42   from me donuts [TS]

00:28:43   the draft but you stole it for me anyway [TS]

00:28:45   when I rewatched the original series and [TS]

00:28:47   it's like I stumble a little bit Spock's [TS]

00:28:49   brain but it's like I can keep doing i [TS]

00:28:51   can keep doing this there's some [TS]

00:28:52   interesting stuff in there but the [TS]

00:28:54   Empire is the wall that i hit and it's [TS]

00:28:55   just like note work we're done for a [TS]

00:28:57   little while and the empath I I has her [TS]

00:29:01   vocal cords been stolen i think they're [TS]

00:29:02   vestibular so but I Kirk Spock and McCoy [TS]

00:29:06   are captured by aliens and put in an [TS]

00:29:08   experiment that allows them to not have [TS]

00:29:10   any scenery from together and they [TS]

00:29:14   interact with an empath which allows [TS]

00:29:16   them to hire a mime instead but you know [TS]

00:29:19   an actor who would talk and that's [TS]

00:29:21   like--that's the episode yeah it's a [TS]

00:29:23   mime episode this is the one Steve lots [TS]

00:29:25   and his daughter when they were watching [TS]

00:29:27   the original series i think he said this [TS]

00:29:29   on his random Trek episode Scotty sort [TS]

00:29:31   of like they got to the empath and it [TS]

00:29:32   broke them and they just think then [TS]

00:29:34   watched another one or two but they [TS]

00:29:36   really their spirits had been lost at [TS]

00:29:37   the empath it is it is along with [TS]

00:29:40   writing that which survives this is the [TS]

00:29:42   one-two punch that says whenever he's [TS]

00:29:44   like what if Star Trek come back for [TS]

00:29:46   four seasons like um it's not looking [TS]

00:29:49   good guys [TS]

00:29:50   it's not looking good so I'm in a [TS]

00:29:52   parallel universe there's a fourth [TS]

00:29:53   season of star trek that was produced [TS]

00:29:56   and at that point it never came back and [TS]

00:29:58   star trek was never franchise because [TS]

00:30:00   the four season was even worse than the [TS]

00:30:02   third it was a whole season of empaths i [TS]

00:30:04   just i don't think there's anything in [TS]

00:30:07   that episode that's really redeeming [TS]

00:30:09   just see so many like all the different [TS]

00:30:13   parts that they then packaged together [TS]

00:30:15   our kind of flawed or gimmicky or just [TS]

00:30:18   not very original and then they mix them [TS]

00:30:20   together into like a really gross you [TS]

00:30:22   know stupid they've been able to eat [TS]

00:30:24   dark set with academic scenery very [TS]

00:30:27   little dialogue yet there's not the [TS]

00:30:29   level of like where you have carcass [TS]

00:30:31   talking to Abraham Lincoln into play so [TS]

00:30:34   awful it's always something that happens [TS]

00:30:38   that doesn't have that it's just bad [TS]

00:30:40   yeah i mean i'm trying to I try to think [TS]

00:30:42   of you know what that episode probably [TS]

00:30:43   came in under budget right that's like [TS]

00:30:45   they didn't even use lights I mean come [TS]

00:30:48   on [TS]

00:30:49   no it's it's you know maybe it was a [TS]

00:30:51   real savings for paramount that or do [TS]

00:30:53   not there [TS]

00:30:54   but you know you don't have to pay a [TS]

00:30:56   mind if they don't speak that it's not [TS]

00:30:58   speaking but it's like an extra with the [TS]

00:31:01   mime actually mines pay you because [TS]

00:31:03   their nobody wants to see them [TS]

00:31:05   sorry minds i apologize to mind not [TS]

00:31:07   being strapped episodes months if they [TS]

00:31:08   can't hear you it's okay yeah [TS]

00:31:10   what no that's not how it works alright [TS]

00:31:14   David doesn't mind what is your mind or [TS]

00:31:18   organ transplant related choice for [TS]

00:31:20   worst episode mine is about stealing [TS]

00:31:23   organs from a mine but the enterprise [TS]

00:31:26   episode i think yeah this is what I was [TS]

00:31:30   gonna say you know there are shows that [TS]

00:31:33   i have given up on watching sway i can [TS]

00:31:35   only assume that they're bad episodes in [TS]

00:31:38   that run although i will say that of [TS]

00:31:41   enterprise even when I didn't like it [TS]

00:31:43   was at least competent so okay i might [TS]

00:31:48   have picked Spock's brain but i just [TS]

00:31:50   love it so much because it is just so [TS]

00:31:53   awful because you hate good things David [TS]

00:31:55   yeah you want [TS]

00:31:57   hey and and you know and the empath is [TS]

00:32:00   certainly like number two or number [TS]

00:32:02   three on my list and you know actually [TS]

00:32:06   yeah i mean they could have gone with [TS]

00:32:08   what does it code of honor from the [TS]

00:32:10   first season of the next generations [TS]

00:32:13   don't spoil it David but i'm not going [TS]

00:32:15   with that good [TS]

00:32:17   you can edit that part out I know you [TS]

00:32:21   want to know by my worst episode might [TS]

00:32:26   be turnabout intruder from the original [TS]

00:32:29   series because it's kind of odd that [TS]

00:32:35   there's this restriction about women [TS]

00:32:37   being captains of Starship kind of a [TS]

00:32:39   kind of just a little bit but even that [TS]

00:32:42   you know ok ok I'll go along with that [TS]

00:32:44   it was the 23 sixties what but but i [TS]

00:32:48   will go along with that for the sake of [TS]

00:32:50   the story it's it's mainly that when [TS]

00:32:53   when Kirk is inhabited by a woman he [TS]

00:32:59   turns into I don't know a walking hissy [TS]

00:33:02   fit [TS]

00:33:03   it's like what [TS]

00:33:04   the hell it is just and I like Shatner [TS]

00:33:09   but I'm sorry no no it's just every [TS]

00:33:13   moment of that just it just hurts to [TS]

00:33:16   watch there's a there's a special kind [TS]

00:33:19   of entertaining sexism that you get when [TS]

00:33:22   you watch stuff of that era but that [TS]

00:33:24   episode just transcends it in such an [TS]

00:33:27   awesome way that you're just your your [TS]

00:33:31   how you can even comprehend it you can't [TS]

00:33:33   believe it was made even then right well [TS]

00:33:37   be the last line two is like she could [TS]

00:33:39   have had a life as fulfilling as any [TS]

00:33:40   woman's nothing but that's the last [TS]

00:33:43   night in Star Trek however that was it [TS]

00:33:46   oh my god and and you know a few weeks [TS]

00:33:49   later man landed on the moon huh man [TS]

00:33:52   emphasis man landed on the moon David [TS]

00:33:55   that's such a bet that because that [TS]

00:34:00   episode isn't so bad it's funny that's [TS]

00:34:01   like painful on multiple level bad even [TS]

00:34:05   let that be your last battlefield is god [TS]

00:34:09   its moments but I mean the running is [TS]

00:34:13   awesome [TS]

00:34:14   Frank Gorshin running but yea alright uh [TS]

00:34:18   David hinted at it but he didn't pick up [TS]

00:34:20   some ticket code of honor on a [TS]

00:34:23   next-generation this is the episode [TS]

00:34:25   where they said let's let's that will [TS]

00:34:27   have an episode that's based sort of a [TS]

00:34:29   society that's based on a sort of feudal [TS]

00:34:33   china will put everybody in like a [TS]

00:34:36   little silk outfits but we'll have them [TS]

00:34:38   all be black and they'll be really [TS]

00:34:41   behind the times and and sort of savages [TS]

00:34:44   like what could go wrong with that [TS]

00:34:47   yeah and again this like act like a [TS]

00:34:50   turnabout intruder this is an episode [TS]

00:34:51   that is painful bad it's bad it's bad [TS]

00:34:54   dramatically it's especially bad [TS]

00:34:57   socially where they're trying to be all [TS]

00:35:00   like elevated and liberal and we love [TS]

00:35:03   everybody and yet in doing so they they [TS]

00:35:06   are repeating some of the worst clichés [TS]

00:35:09   and stereotypes and it's just it is and [TS]

00:35:13   i like it less even than justice which [TS]

00:35:15   would have been my choice which is where [TS]

00:35:16   Wesley is sentenced to death for [TS]

00:35:18   for walking on the grass well he was he [TS]

00:35:20   was asking that is truly about that [TS]

00:35:22   that's bad but it's got the one good [TS]

00:35:23   thing about it is just got that sort of [TS]

00:35:24   mysterious protecting alien that is [TS]

00:35:26   beyond their with the ability to [TS]

00:35:29   comprehend and I thought that was kind [TS]

00:35:30   of cool where's code of honor it's just [TS]

00:35:32   hey here's a planet that's got this [TS]

00:35:33   weird society there's a runaround plot [TS]

00:35:36   its it's so bad it's unbelievably [TS]

00:35:41   offensive i have i have a story about [TS]

00:35:42   this episode actually so you know i was [TS]

00:35:46   i was like a child when this first came [TS]

00:35:48   out so I'd never seen like TNG the first [TS]

00:35:52   time season and my husband bet me a [TS]

00:35:55   hundred dollars i could not watch the [TS]

00:35:58   entire first season of technology and [TS]

00:36:00   not watching anything else in between [TS]

00:36:01   think that was all i could watch because [TS]

00:36:05   he submitted his code of honor justice [TS]

00:36:07   oh my god and I got through I got [TS]

00:36:10   through encounter at Farpoint and like [TS]

00:36:12   all this really bad yeah everybody's [TS]

00:36:14   doing nothing this way this episode was [TS]

00:36:17   like the roger moore movie era start [TS]

00:36:21   right there was just so bad and you're [TS]

00:36:24   just trying to get through it because [TS]

00:36:26   you know like there's better stuff on [TS]

00:36:27   the other side of it but I'm just I'm [TS]

00:36:29   watchlist in between my fingers over my [TS]

00:36:31   face it was so bad and they actually the [TS]

00:36:34   descriptors bad the acting is bad the [TS]

00:36:36   line i remember here is a one of the [TS]

00:36:39   people on this planet says yes yes [TS]

00:36:41   please prepare it and it is the most [TS]

00:36:43   painful pack need badly acted pretty [TS]

00:36:48   please prepare it terrible it is it is [TS]

00:36:50   it is offensive and awful and the first [TS]

00:36:52   season that's rough you but really think [TS]

00:36:54   about the third season of the original [TS]

00:36:56   series the first season of the next [TS]

00:36:57   generation that is there's not a lot of [TS]

00:36:59   good there isn't there some nice [TS]

00:37:01   continuity and quality [TS]

00:37:03   yeah I could probably go with like [TS]

00:37:05   almost the entire first season most of [TS]

00:37:07   the second season of next-generation [TS]

00:37:09   large parts of the third says it all [TS]

00:37:12   right uh so what should we do should we [TS]

00:37:15   do some more episodes should we move on [TS]

00:37:17   to another category want to do another [TS]

00:37:19   round episode so you want to move on i [TS]

00:37:21   like talking about bad episodes this is [TS]

00:37:23   good podcast right where we will go one [TS]

00:37:25   more round a good and bad episodes then [TS]

00:37:27   Breanna you got a good one for us a good [TS]

00:37:30   one okay [TS]

00:37:30   Wow see I could sit here and [TS]

00:37:33   passionately talk about like all my all [TS]

00:37:36   the best episodes of Voyager but I think [TS]

00:37:38   like we were talking about to get really [TS]

00:37:40   heavy issues so I'm just going to talk [TS]

00:37:42   about one I found like awesome and that [TS]

00:37:45   was best of both worlds it was in the [TS]

00:37:47   theater I here recently in boston and [TS]

00:37:50   you like most of TNG I just never seen [TS]

00:37:53   it was too young when it came out and it [TS]

00:37:55   was so unbelievably good i mean was it [TS]

00:37:59   could have been a movie it was so good [TS]

00:38:01   and seeing in the theater with a bunch [TS]

00:38:03   of Anya Star Trek fans there was just [TS]

00:38:05   awesome energy they're like you have a [TS]

00:38:08   really compelling female lead in that [TS]

00:38:11   episode was her name do you guys [TS]

00:38:12   remember arm [TS]

00:38:14   Shelby Shelby Shelby was done here right [TS]

00:38:18   she is awesome [TS]

00:38:20   you've got your Picard being turned into [TS]

00:38:22   your Borg and like the dick chain of [TS]

00:38:25   command being upset on the enterprise [TS]

00:38:27   and it's just a fantastic episode like [TS]

00:38:30   yeah I can't say anything negative about [TS]

00:38:33   it maybe the second half of it was nice [TS]

00:38:36   awesome awesome is the first but just [TS]

00:38:39   really like the very best of Star Trek I [TS]

00:38:41   felt yeah but I think that's yeah it's a [TS]

00:38:45   classic I've been curious to see the one [TS]

00:38:47   where they what they showed in the [TS]

00:38:49   theaters is where they edited together [TS]

00:38:50   and have it be kind of like a continual [TS]

00:38:52   like movie movie thing where they take [TS]

00:38:54   the two episodes and stitch them [TS]

00:38:56   together at what the the anecdote I know [TS]

00:38:59   about that is that the the guy who wrote [TS]

00:39:01   Michael piller wrote that episode he was [TS]

00:39:04   not intending to come back the next year [TS]

00:39:06   and so he literally had not figured out [TS]

00:39:08   what would happen after that classic I [TS]

00:39:10   think that cliffhanger is really what [TS]

00:39:11   brought next generation into the public [TS]

00:39:13   consciousness everybody was talking [TS]

00:39:14   about the clip i think i think it [TS]

00:39:15   brought back the cliffhanger honestly [TS]

00:39:17   for a because that's it where everybody [TS]

00:39:20   was talking about somewhere about mr. [TS]

00:39:22   war fire [TS]

00:39:22   it's like oh god they're gonna blow up [TS]

00:39:24   Captain Picard what's gonna happen and [TS]

00:39:26   uh and apparently he ended up the writer [TS]

00:39:29   ended up coming back to the show and and [TS]

00:39:31   having no idea to resolve it and then [TS]

00:39:34   configure because he's just not plan to [TS]

00:39:35   eat he thought it was gonna be somebody [TS]

00:39:36   else's problem he was just going to move [TS]

00:39:38   on and it does have that feeling like [TS]

00:39:40   you're like I don't even know what where [TS]

00:39:41   this is gonna go I don't feel like he [TS]

00:39:42   seeded any [TS]

00:39:44   no but many plot twist that I can figure [TS]

00:39:46   out over the summer it's just like nope [TS]

00:39:48   no idea and it's a great great cliff [TS]

00:39:50   hanger and and I mean the first have [TS]

00:39:52   always preferred the first half to the [TS]

00:39:54   second half and and because exactly that [TS]

00:39:56   it shows and but that is a great [TS]

00:39:59   cliffhanger [TS]

00:40:00   it's the best I i really like the the [TS]

00:40:03   character of Shelby because i think you [TS]

00:40:06   know TNG generally speaking kind of [TS]

00:40:08   fails and succeeds at portraying women i [TS]

00:40:11   think um and I just I really found the [TS]

00:40:15   idea of a character that was really [TS]

00:40:18   really driven in which really aiming [TS]

00:40:20   towards being the starship captain but [TS]

00:40:23   was maybe a little bit [TS]

00:40:24   no not so super diplomatic about the way [TS]

00:40:27   she went about it i just i found that a [TS]

00:40:29   more compelling character than say [TS]

00:40:31   Beverly Crusher and I don't know I just [TS]

00:40:33   I thought it was fantastic overall I [TS]

00:40:35   always meant thought that they mented to [TS]

00:40:38   make that cause she ends up spending a [TS]

00:40:39   lot of time with Ryker and that it's [TS]

00:40:40   really like the Riker this is what you [TS]

00:40:43   were like you've gotten a lot better but [TS]

00:40:45   this is you a couple years ago when [TS]

00:40:47   you're like a little too out of control [TS]

00:40:48   and you haven't learned and now he's in [TS]

00:40:50   the in the seat of having to sort of be [TS]

00:40:52   the Picard figure to her which was it's [TS]

00:40:54   a real shame that they didn't bring that [TS]

00:40:55   character back because that was a really [TS]

00:40:57   great character she was in some of the [TS]

00:40:59   novel's she's in Peter David's new [TS]

00:41:01   frontier novels sure but they but it's [TS]

00:41:04   too bad they didn't bring they didn't [TS]

00:41:05   bring her back on the show because that [TS]

00:41:06   was a was a great character best of both [TS]

00:41:08   worlds a classic perfect pic beautiful [TS]

00:41:11   Scott what do you got ah well it's it's [TS]

00:41:13   a toss-up between the two episodes for [TS]

00:41:15   me i'm going to pick the one that I is [TS]

00:41:18   actually good good good good strategies [TS]

00:41:22   got see I've always thinking the other [TS]

00:41:25   one introduces the character that i like [TS]

00:41:26   but trials and tribulations deep space 9 [TS]

00:41:31   episode in which the crew of deep space [TS]

00:41:33   nine go back in time to the trouble with [TS]

00:41:36   tribbles episode of the original series [TS]

00:41:38   which is delightful [TS]

00:41:40   it also gives us a glimpse into the [TS]

00:41:43   bureaucracy of Starfleet where we find [TS]

00:41:45   out about the temporal investigations [TS]

00:41:46   unit who they start off the episode in [TS]

00:41:49   Cisco's office grilling him about why in [TS]

00:41:52   fact he went back in time and you know [TS]

00:41:53   those guys those names are dumber and [TS]

00:41:55   Locksley which are just anagrams from [TS]

00:41:57   alderans [TS]

00:41:57   darling that's right and they have a [TS]

00:42:00   good line about how they hate Captain [TS]

00:42:03   Kirk because he's always messing with [TS]

00:42:04   this is the worst he is the first and so [TS]

00:42:09   there's lots of great things this is the [TS]

00:42:11   episode in which you know that they [TS]

00:42:13   travel back in time and so the fish nine [TS]

00:42:15   crew looking at the Klingons in the [TS]

00:42:18   trouble troubles who do not have ridges [TS]

00:42:20   on their heads and they turned to a [TS]

00:42:22   wharf it was wearing a fur hat who's [TS]

00:42:24   wearing fur hat he's taken Spock's [TS]

00:42:27   disguise [TS]

00:42:27   yes and they're like what's the deal and [TS]

00:42:31   Worf response we do not speak of it [TS]

00:42:34   without with a look that suggests no [TS]

00:42:37   follow-up questions are going to be [TS]

00:42:38   accepted here which i think is the [TS]

00:42:40   perfect way to deal with the hands you [TS]

00:42:42   don't want to deal with you LOL [TS]

00:42:44   multi-episode arc and enterprise you [TS]

00:42:46   don't like that way of dealing with it [TS]

00:42:47   it's just a lot of fun to see how they [TS]

00:42:50   play with you know Dex make some [TS]

00:42:52   comments about the the skirt links and [TS]

00:42:55   the fonts over Spock to she's like he's [TS]

00:42:57   so handsome and in Cisco says oh yeah [TS]

00:42:59   everybody loved Kirk she's like I'm [TS]

00:43:01   talking about Spock and it explains the [TS]

00:43:05   the moment where you know captain kirk [TS]

00:43:07   is under the migraine shoot and these [TS]

00:43:10   troubles just keep falling out and [TS]

00:43:12   that's because cisco index are throwing [TS]

00:43:14   them looking for a bomb in one of the [TS]

00:43:16   troubles will someone please close that [TS]

00:43:19   door it's just a delightful episode in [TS]

00:43:22   every respect that scene by the way gets [TS]

00:43:24   huge laughs and in tracking the park for [TS]

00:43:25   the same reason that throughout the [TS]

00:43:27   entire out the entire scene there's [TS]

00:43:29   somebody behind the stage just [TS]

00:43:31   continually checking the travels over [TS]

00:43:33   it's just it works it's a classic just [TS]

00:43:36   keep repeating that joke star trek just [TS]

00:43:37   keep doing it [TS]

00:43:38   I always found that episode really [TS]

00:43:40   notable because you know i do 3d for a [TS]

00:43:43   living and I I really always found that [TS]

00:43:45   a really cool historical point of kind [TS]

00:43:49   of taking old footage and new footage [TS]

00:43:52   and kind of compositing it on top of [TS]

00:43:54   each other in a way that told really [TS]

00:43:56   cool story and I could say like watching [TS]

00:43:59   that episode when the things that got me [TS]

00:44:00   really interested about going into this [TS]

00:44:02   field because it really does open up all [TS]

00:44:05   kinds of narrative possibilities it just [TS]

00:44:08   had not existed before that and it still [TS]

00:44:10   looks good [TS]

00:44:11   good yeah it's very believable did a [TS]

00:44:14   good job i I'm I'm looking forward to if [TS]

00:44:16   they do the deep space 9 HD conversion [TS]

00:44:19   that should be interesting because [TS]

00:44:20   they're gonna have to do they're going [TS]

00:44:21   to recompose it all that stuff but it [TS]

00:44:22   looks great great one [TS]

00:44:26   good job Scott you picked a natural good [TS]

00:44:28   1c instead of the episode that [TS]

00:44:30   introduces Barkley right [TS]

00:44:32   no that's right yes I like her hollow [TS]

00:44:35   pursuits I like Barkley to I'll oh we [TS]

00:47:26   web starts with your website [TS]

00:47:28   Tony well just like Scott I'm gonna pick [TS]

00:47:30   another fun light episode and I'm gonna [TS]

00:47:32   go with that deep space nines in the [TS]

00:47:34   pale moonlight haha arm and you know I [TS]

00:47:38   like a lot sir just and morons pic 2 by [TS]

00:47:41   the way he couldn't be here he has [TS]

00:47:42   excellent taste [TS]

00:47:44   um you know I i think the dark episodes [TS]

00:47:47   are some of my favorites [TS]

00:47:48   not because i like it when Star Trek is [TS]

00:47:50   darkness as early as i like seeing what [TS]

00:47:52   they do with these characters when they [TS]

00:47:53   really kind of like push them and force [TS]

00:47:55   them in difficult situations i like the [TS]

00:47:57   like fun episodes too i like it when you [TS]

00:47:59   know Jordan and data are trying to catch [TS]

00:48:01   a mouse or whatever it is they're trying [TS]

00:48:02   to do in deep space mines in the pale [TS]

00:48:06   moonlight of the last several seasons of [TS]

00:48:08   deep space nine or this long huge dark [TS]

00:48:10   about the war with the Dominion and the [TS]

00:48:13   premise of in the pale moonlight is a [TS]

00:48:14   sicko is trying to get the Romulans onto [TS]

00:48:18   the side of the Federation so that they [TS]

00:48:19   can hopefully win the war against the [TS]

00:48:21   Dominion and he engages in some kind of [TS]

00:48:24   unethical stuff and he more or less gets [TS]

00:48:26   caught with it and the Romulans are [TS]

00:48:27   going to go back with the evidence and [TS]

00:48:30   presumably not join the federation and [TS]

00:48:33   instead the Romulan ambassador is [TS]

00:48:35   killed with an explosion that it turns [TS]

00:48:38   out that Derek asset and the whole [TS]

00:48:40   episode is done in the form of kind of [TS]

00:48:42   cisco narrating his log that he's gonna [TS]

00:48:44   send to Starfleet that he then at the [TS]

00:48:46   end of the episodes delete and never [TS]

00:48:48   sensed to Starfleet because he decides [TS]

00:48:50   it's more important that they get the [TS]

00:48:52   Romulan Empire on the side of the [TS]

00:48:54   Federation so they can win this war than [TS]

00:48:56   that he do what he probably really [TS]

00:48:58   should do as a Starfleet officer or is a [TS]

00:49:01   good person because you know he's been [TS]

00:49:04   just kind of at this point kind of got [TS]

00:49:07   broken down by the the war and feeling [TS]

00:49:09   that like you know the ends justify the [TS]

00:49:11   means at that point so it is probably [TS]

00:49:13   one of the darkest Star Trek episodes [TS]

00:49:16   but if I think it's great it's yeah it [TS]

00:49:21   also it has a lot of character who is [TS]

00:49:23   one of my favorite characters too so [TS]

00:49:25   yeah that's a good one [TS]

00:49:26   well done David what do you have if if I [TS]

00:49:29   were going to pick a Voyager episode [TS]

00:49:30   guess this won't surprise anyone it [TS]

00:49:34   would be bribed of kaotica oh yeah it [TS]

00:49:37   has that whole forties pulp thing going [TS]

00:49:40   on which then turns serious when [TS]

00:49:43   transdimensional aliens get mixed in [TS]

00:49:46   with Tom Paris's weird fantasy holodeck [TS]

00:49:48   program but I can't pick a holodeck [TS]

00:49:51   program our holiday episode so I'm gonna [TS]

00:49:55   go with the two part in a mirror darkly [TS]

00:50:00   oh yes [TS]

00:50:02   yeah enterprise which is maybe the best [TS]

00:50:04   enterprise I've seen out partly because [TS]

00:50:06   it just starts off i mean it it can't it [TS]

00:50:10   can't cross with our universe because we [TS]

00:50:12   don't know it yet so which is plunges [TS]

00:50:14   you right into this be from the opening [TS]

00:50:17   credits i mean it even has the evil [TS]

00:50:19   version of the opening credits which is [TS]

00:50:21   so much better than the actual song they [TS]

00:50:23   used it's actually calculates the good [TS]

00:50:27   version of the opening credits the evil [TS]

00:50:28   one opens every other episode of it and [TS]

00:50:31   you know I kind of if if we had gotten [TS]

00:50:34   to see scott bakula running around [TS]

00:50:37   having a little fun and wearing the gold [TS]

00:50:39   outfit again that should still be on the [TS]

00:50:42   air [TS]

00:50:43   why you cast him and and like make him a [TS]

00:50:46   dour serious captain I mean I did [TS]

00:50:49   what were they thinking but this at [TS]

00:50:51   least he gets you know he's still he's [TS]

00:50:52   evil he still serious but he's having [TS]

00:50:54   fun and it just it it combines the [TS]

00:50:57   Tholian web and the mirror universe and [TS]

00:51:00   all of these things and that was the [TS]

00:51:02   first time when i said i want to see [TS]

00:51:04   season 5i want to see season says I want [TS]

00:51:06   to see what Manny Coto is gonna do with [TS]

00:51:08   this because he he got it right because [TS]

00:51:11   that last season they embrace the [TS]

00:51:12   original series and made all the links [TS]

00:51:14   and made all the references to the [TS]

00:51:15   original series which they could cause [TS]

00:51:17   enterprises relatively close in time and [TS]

00:51:20   and making a mirror universe episode [TS]

00:51:21   that's actually a sequel to the Tholian [TS]

00:51:23   web is just it's crazy and and did the [TS]

00:51:27   utter genius of taking that moment from [TS]

00:51:29   first contact with an end and actually [TS]

00:51:32   getting james cromwell 22 just sort of [TS]

00:51:34   do this sort of uncredited little moment [TS]

00:51:37   where he pulls a gun out and shoot [TS]

00:51:38   that's like oh my god and that's how you [TS]

00:51:41   start the show me it was just beautiful [TS]

00:51:44   yeah I i cannot say enough good things [TS]

00:51:46   about that upset that the song the song [TS]

00:51:49   is so good that do you know how are you [TS]

00:51:52   guys runners like Gina on your if he's [TS]

00:51:55   nike+ you can hold the center button on [TS]

00:51:58   your ipod and it will like will do a [TS]

00:52:00   power song like to record our song [TS]

00:52:02   feature like that was my power song for [TS]

00:52:05   another one that came out because it's [TS]

00:52:07   like I don't want to start running stop [TS]

00:52:09   running and like it just it propels you [TS]

00:52:12   forward it's so like the aesthetics of [TS]

00:52:15   that like the ISS universe in the the [TS]

00:52:18   kind of cold evil version the Federation [TS]

00:52:22   is just awesome i love that episode and [TS]

00:52:24   and they're not all working together [TS]

00:52:26   which is beauty yeah there's a good [TS]

00:52:28   there's a Gorn in that too right yeah [TS]

00:52:30   when you get see how she be like an [TS]

00:52:33   interesting character for you know to [TS]

00:52:36   actually be a character yeah right thats [TS]

00:52:38   Emperor ocean to you [TS]

00:52:40   yeah that's a great one well so i could [TS]

00:52:45   pick that Voyager episode i really liked [TS]

00:52:47   here which is deadlock which has the [TS]

00:52:49   vidiians in it which is this by saying I [TS]

00:52:52   could pick this is trickery that's going [TS]

00:52:54   to happen here [TS]

00:52:55   I I could I could pick that deadlock [TS]

00:52:57   because i love that that's the episode [TS]

00:52:58   with a Voyager gets split in two and you [TS]

00:53:01   really know it so you see the Voyager [TS]

00:53:03   get the crap beaten out of it and [TS]

00:53:05   everything blow up and and and Harry Kim [TS]

00:53:07   gets like sucked sucks through a hole in [TS]

00:53:10   the ship and dies and you're like blown [TS]

00:53:13   through yeah that's true thank you and [TS]

00:53:15   no yeah Harry Kim is dead again maybe [TS]

00:53:18   this time for sure [TS]

00:53:19   what's great what's great is it to do it [TS]

00:53:21   it plays with your expectations of the [TS]

00:53:23   reset button of an episode so when it's [TS]

00:53:25   revealed that there's another Voyager [TS]

00:53:27   what that's perfectly fine and has not [TS]

00:53:29   had the crap kicked out of it and Harry [TS]

00:53:30   Kim is alive there and all of that you [TS]

00:53:32   think you think Oh see this is this is a [TS]

00:53:35   cheat and the beauty of it is what ends [TS]

00:53:37   up happening is that that Chinese [TS]

00:53:40   Voyager actually gets attacked by the [TS]

00:53:42   vidiians and they all get like their [TS]

00:53:43   organs taken out and they send I think [TS]

00:53:46   it's the the incidence baby because the [TS]

00:53:48   baby died and the other Voyager and and [TS]

00:53:51   Harry Kim through back to the broken [TS]

00:53:53   Voyager and they blow up the healthy [TS]

00:53:56   Voyager and the broken voyager is the [TS]

00:53:58   one that we keep and it's a great twist [TS]

00:54:01   is one of that one of my favorite twist [TS]

00:54:04   but i'm not going to take it i'm going [TS]

00:54:05   to pick trouble with tribbles which [TS]

00:54:06   already talked about let's talk about [TS]

00:54:09   bad episodes one more time [TS]

00:54:10   Brianna you got something for us alright [TS]

00:54:13   very bad upset so okay I've got a [TS]

00:54:16   critique avoid represent this time [TS]

00:54:18   threshold is a whole first of all like [TS]

00:54:22   it really says something that the worst [TS]

00:54:24   episode boardroom picking here doesn't [TS]

00:54:26   involve Chakotay because he sure your [TS]

00:54:28   guide to bad Voyager like if Chakotay is [TS]

00:54:31   the main character it's definitely top [TS]

00:54:34   10 worst episodes of Voyager ever but um [TS]

00:54:37   no I'm going to say I it's got to be [TS]

00:54:39   threshold so if it had have you guys [TS]

00:54:42   ever read the book the physics of Star [TS]

00:54:44   Trek that kind of explains some of the [TS]

00:54:46   stuff about the universe if you guys [TS]

00:54:47   ever read that [TS]

00:54:48   yeah yeah okay so like the war factor 10 [TS]

00:54:52   your theoretically existing at every [TS]

00:54:55   point of the entire universe [TS]

00:54:56   simultaneously and said in this episode [TS]

00:55:01   they go past warp factor 10 which is [TS]

00:55:05   defined as the continuity error but it's [TS]

00:55:07   completely stupid what happens on so [TS]

00:55:10   they end up like Tom Paris ends up [TS]

00:55:13   evolving and a ball [TS]

00:55:15   something involving so he and Captain [TS]

00:55:17   Janeway like evolved into lizards and [TS]

00:55:21   have sex [TS]

00:55:22   nothin have offspring and then somehow [TS]

00:55:25   the doctor brings them back but it's [TS]

00:55:28   just it's an abomination in every sense [TS]

00:55:31   of the word it's like it's not [TS]

00:55:33   respectful to the cannon is just painful [TS]

00:55:35   to watch [TS]

00:55:36   it's it hurts like physically hurts so [TS]

00:55:40   all my god it's it's it's bad i would [TS]

00:55:44   say tying for it would be the fight [TS]

00:55:46   which is this Archie Koty episode where [TS]

00:55:49   he hits he's a boxer the whole episode [TS]

00:55:53   and they like ran out of money or [TS]

00:55:55   something so the entire episode 7 of [TS]

00:55:57   boxing rake it's like you know trying to [TS]

00:56:00   fight this this alien because of mind [TS]

00:56:03   control or whatever that's what that [TS]

00:56:04   actually is from the creative team that [TS]

00:56:06   brought you Darmok by the way the fight [TS]

00:56:08   so much [TS]

00:56:09   that's it that's a German oski Wow [TS]

00:56:12   Chakotay in dreams are a bad combination [TS]

00:56:14   of lucid dreaming you mean you would [TS]

00:56:18   think he would talk to the writers at [TS]

00:56:19   some point like put them aside like come [TS]

00:56:22   on guys I think he was actually pretty [TS]

00:56:24   candid with about how and I think he [TS]

00:56:27   can't even get into some trouble with [TS]

00:56:28   you know how openly disdainful he was at [TS]

00:56:31   the dialogue he had to read for his [TS]

00:56:32   character you know but it's a job right [TS]

00:56:35   i mean he has its job seven years of [TS]

00:56:37   episode pays pretty good all right Scott [TS]

00:56:40   Scott bring us down [TS]

00:56:42   what do you have well i'll do what i [TS]

00:56:46   could do so [TS]

00:56:48   season one of the next generation has [TS]

00:56:51   many awful episodes in it so many one [TS]

00:56:55   awful episode that is also perhaps of [TS]

00:56:58   the police are here again because it's [TS]

00:56:59   so bad [TS]

00:57:01   perhaps the one of the artists episodes [TS]

00:57:03   of the next generation and one that has [TS]

00:57:05   the most far-reaching consequences but [TS]

00:57:07   they never pick it up is conspirators II [TS]

00:57:10   know I was just going to say that which [TS]

00:57:13   is an awful episode in which little [TS]

00:57:15   aliens it infect the high levels of [TS]

00:57:20   Starfleet and are moving people around [TS]

00:57:22   and doing all kinds of [TS]

00:57:24   bad things and the you-know-what [TS]

00:57:26   jean-luc figures it out and they're the [TS]

00:57:28   end is perhaps one of the most [TS]

00:57:30   horrifying scenes I've ever seen Star [TS]

00:57:32   Trek where they blow up the Queen [TS]

00:57:34   symbian and it is extremely graphic that [TS]

00:57:38   makes you think i'm watching Star Trek [TS]

00:57:39   episode well and it's stop-motion [TS]

00:57:41   animation which they never really did [TS]

00:57:43   again so it looks sort of like the end [TS]

00:57:44   of Raiders of the Lost Ark on a really [TS]

00:57:46   bad budget and you see the whole life [TS]

00:57:48   ribcage its very nature as a kid I was [TS]

00:57:50   like I that's also the same episode [TS]

00:57:52   where they eat the conspiracy people eat [TS]

00:57:55   meal meal worms right yes and Riker has [TS]

00:57:57   to like put and it was like those are [TS]

00:58:00   probably the two most disturbing things [TS]

00:58:02   in next-gen for me as a kid and they [TS]

00:58:04   were in the same episode and then it [TS]

00:58:06   never goes anywhere and i gotta say I I [TS]

00:58:09   felt really bad because the the actor [TS]

00:58:11   who plays remick in that who then turns [TS]

00:58:15   out to be the symbian and all that is [TS]

00:58:18   also a playwright who just won the Tony [TS]

00:58:20   and all for all the way the story bad [TS]

00:58:23   LBJ and he's a really good player right [TS]

00:58:27   and when I met him I said I'm a Star [TS]

00:58:29   Trek fan and he looked at me and said I [TS]

00:58:30   am so sorry I left his kids if you if [TS]

00:58:33   you eat mealworms you can go somewhere [TS]

00:58:34   like out yeah don't tell me you took the [TS]

00:58:38   right let me well done [TS]

00:58:41   wow yeah that was that was what and [TS]

00:58:43   what's funny about that episodes they [TS]

00:58:45   were really setting it up is this was [TS]

00:58:46   going to be a story arc thing that we [TS]

00:58:47   were going to take through and instead [TS]

00:58:49   they're like he had no we're never going [TS]

00:58:51   to speak I i thought i thought it could [TS]

00:58:53   have been a cool art I really do [TS]

00:58:55   bye yeah it's yeah i mean they should [TS]

00:58:57   have done something with it yeah I kept [TS]

00:58:59   waiting for them to come back i remember [TS]

00:59:01   those scenes and that just that freaked [TS]

00:59:03   me out so hard I remember that my god [TS]

00:59:07   what's going on [TS]

00:59:08   alright Tony what you have I have I [TS]

00:59:13   believe the title of it is a move along [TS]

00:59:15   home which is oh yeah [TS]

00:59:18   move along home move along [TS]

00:59:22   oh and I mainly i mainly drawing from [TS]

00:59:24   the original series next-gen ds9 because [TS]

00:59:26   otherwise every watch the most of but [TS]

00:59:29   and you know there's some bad episode [TS]

00:59:31   was a lot of them a lot of like some of [TS]

00:59:33   the ones you have mentioned like I just [TS]

00:59:34   don't even remember [TS]

00:59:35   number are so they're probably worse [TS]

00:59:37   than the ones i'm remembering as bad but [TS]

00:59:39   move along home is a basically just a [TS]

00:59:41   complete throwaway episode in the first [TS]

00:59:44   season of deep space nine where a bunch [TS]

00:59:46   of aliens show up and like that's that's [TS]

00:59:48   like half of the you know half the plot [TS]

00:59:49   of the most ds9 episode just in the [TS]

00:59:52   first couple seasons like people show up [TS]

00:59:53   coming through the wormhole because [TS]

00:59:55   they're doing trade even though they're [TS]

00:59:56   coming with objects that we don't [TS]

00:59:58   understand that didn't fit somehow [TS]

00:59:58   understand that didn't fit somehow [TS]

01:00:00   willing to pay money for which they [TS]

01:00:01   don't totally understand either so like [TS]

01:00:03   a bunch of aliens show up we're never [TS]

01:00:05   gonna see them again in the entire [TS]

01:00:06   series ever and they and they show up [TS]

01:00:08   and they're hanging out the bar and like [TS]

01:00:10   they're basically bored with the dumb [TS]

01:00:11   games that Clark has and so they want to [TS]

01:00:13   play this crazy game where your [TS]

01:00:16   teleported into this weird place and [TS]

01:00:18   have to solve little puzzles and it [TS]

01:00:20   seems like you know you're in lethal [TS]

01:00:22   danger if you don't solve the puzzles [TS]

01:00:24   but in reality you're not and they solve [TS]

01:00:27   the puzzles 13 work and everyone's okay [TS]

01:00:29   and like there's just there's nothing [TS]

01:00:32   there right i mean i don't think nothing [TS]

01:00:34   advances in terms of the overall plot i [TS]

01:00:36   don't think we really learn much about [TS]

01:00:38   the character the other thing the main [TS]

01:00:40   characters on deep space 9 [TS]

01:00:41   I don't know if there's a lesson is the [TS]

01:00:43   lesson you can you can't trust scary [TS]

01:00:47   aliens because they're not actually [TS]

01:00:48   going to put you in mortal danger even [TS]

01:00:49   if it looks like it is i don't know what [TS]

01:00:51   the lesson is I liked this episode only [TS]

01:00:53   because i have h a weird fascination [TS]

01:00:55   with the games on Star Trek because [TS]

01:00:57   they're always so odd and this is the [TS]

01:01:00   quintessential log game on Star Trek i [TS]

01:01:02   prefer the one that they played the [TS]

01:01:04   google glass when they play which you [TS]

01:01:05   know [TS]

01:01:06   yeah that the game yeah the game that's [TS]

01:01:08   so i would consider the game the [TS]

01:01:10   quintessential game but where where it's [TS]

01:01:13   you know with with amazing future [TS]

01:01:15   graphics where it's like you know about [TS]

01:01:16   starts the next generation version of [TS]

01:01:19   threes [TS]

01:01:20   no it's the next it's at its ball and [TS]

01:01:22   cup but you put but I your I love that [TS]

01:01:24   episode but the graphics are really [TS]

01:01:26   terrible well it's the best they could [TS]

01:01:27   do ya know um so yeah there are probably [TS]

01:01:31   other ones but that one stand that one [TS]

01:01:33   and you know i love deep space nine so [TS]

01:01:35   much and that episode just you know [TS]

01:01:36   there's other ones in there filler but [TS]

01:01:38   that's just there's no point to that [TS]

01:01:40   episode [TS]

01:01:41   David well I mean again there's so many [TS]

01:01:44   to choose from we say this with love as [TS]

01:01:46   Scott always says on random track we [TS]

01:01:48   come from position of love and then we [TS]

01:01:51   have to mention the terrible things and [TS]

01:01:54   i'm i'm just i'm going to plunge in its [TS]

01:01:57   it's the outrageous o kaanha frogs that [TS]

01:02:00   season 2 of next generation which the [TS]

01:02:04   whole time if you're watching O'Connor [TS]

01:02:06   and thinking man this guy's like Harry [TS]

01:02:07   Mudd well it was supposed to be Harry [TS]

01:02:09   Mudd [TS]

01:02:10   but as if that wasn't bad enough it also [TS]

01:02:14   has data learning how to be a stand-up [TS]

01:02:18   comedian from joe piscopo Joe Piscopo [TS]

01:02:22   child has kept its Billy Campbell Billy [TS]

01:02:25   Campbell is a comma and he's fine it's [TS]

01:02:29   just it's you know it's it's it's the [TS]

01:02:31   joe piscopo part that really kills me [TS]

01:02:33   I mean because the whole time you're [TS]

01:02:35   watching the almost like halfway decent [TS]

01:02:38   story and then they go back to the the [TS]

01:02:41   stand-up comedy [TS]

01:02:42   well it's not it's not really a halfway [TS]

01:02:44   decent story because it's like a sitcom [TS]

01:02:45   plot it's like hey he got this girl [TS]

01:02:48   pregnant and the hospital parents on a [TS]

01:02:49   one-part planet are angry but then it [TS]

01:02:51   and then there's other parents on this [TS]

01:02:53   other planets that are angry and it [TS]

01:02:54   turns out oh it turns out that it's a [TS]

01:02:56   boy from one planet that girl from [TS]

01:02:58   another planet and they're the ones he's [TS]

01:03:00   the one who got her pregnant not the [TS]

01:03:01   captain who shuttling back and forth [TS]

01:03:03   oh what a misunderstanding i'm just [TS]

01:03:07   going on the low bar of the stand-up [TS]

01:03:09   comedy part well it's true and guidance [TS]

01:03:11   teacher data the importance of something [TS]

01:03:13   or other and 1500 don't have she teaches [TS]

01:03:18   him don't worry about the jokes it's the [TS]

01:03:20   monologue and embodying the characters [TS]

01:03:22   for your 1000 yeah i love i love his the [TS]

01:03:26   the Wardrobe of the scamp because he's [TS]

01:03:28   got like a happy pirate shirt yeah and [TS]

01:03:30   like a leather jacket and he's got like [TS]

01:03:33   you know he's got all the things [TS]

01:03:34   yeah it's just like it's like oh it's [TS]

01:03:37   like we gotta like we got a wedge every [TS]

01:03:38   last element of righteousness into your [TS]

01:03:40   opinion is a puffy vest with the balloon [TS]

01:03:44   balloon sleeves on top at some stubble [TS]

01:03:48   yep stubble at you know kind of floppy [TS]

01:03:51   hair yeah he's you know [TS]

01:03:52   yeah it's it's I would not least that [TS]

01:03:55   guy shuttlecraft is all inside and [TS]

01:03:58   require two references at least and a [TS]

01:04:00   deposit and editors Pulaski being grumpy [TS]

01:04:03   so moving her best McCoy data [TS]

01:04:08   yeah data what is my name the other is [TS]

01:04:10   not [TS]

01:04:12   okay my turn i'm going to pick and it is [TS]

01:04:16   an episode that's bad because it of the [TS]

01:04:19   complete disrespected has for its own [TS]

01:04:21   show and also it's a what a way to go [TS]

01:04:25   out [TS]

01:04:26   it is the final episode of the final [TS]

01:04:28   Star Trek TV series to this date called [TS]

01:04:30   these are the voyages of the last [TS]

01:04:32   episode of enterprise this this is an [TS]

01:04:34   episode they bring back Rick Berman and [TS]

01:04:36   Brandon braga who are the who are the [TS]

01:04:38   showrunners all the way back to the next [TS]

01:04:39   generation they were working on the show [TS]

01:04:41   they show a complete dislike of anything [TS]

01:04:43   about enterprise now I don't love [TS]

01:04:44   enterprise but what an extended middle [TS]

01:04:47   finger to the audience of this TV show [TS]

01:04:49   this final episode is a next generation [TS]

01:04:51   episode it stars Riker and Troy and they [TS]

01:04:56   um they play hologram with the crew of [TS]

01:05:00   the enterprise and have a good time [TS]

01:05:03   messing around with a crew of the [TS]

01:05:05   enterprise and in the end they like and [TS]

01:05:08   the program and that's the end and it is [TS]

01:05:11   just a gigantic rip off because although [TS]

01:05:13   you get hints about what's happening to [TS]

01:05:15   all these characters at the end the [TS]

01:05:17   whole point of the episode is basically [TS]

01:05:18   like hey let's check in on Riker we [TS]

01:05:21   haven't seen him in a while and it's [TS]

01:05:23   just it's it's tear [TS]

01:05:24   not only is it not a good episode but it [TS]

01:05:26   has complete contempt for the viewers of [TS]

01:05:29   the show and for the characters on the [TS]

01:05:31   show for the actors who play those [TS]

01:05:32   characters and also it is the last [TS]

01:05:35   produce the 728 episode of all star trek [TS]

01:05:40   produced on television and that's what [TS]

01:05:42   we're left with is this last gasp of [TS]

01:05:45   people basically saying I suppose [TS]

01:05:47   hey remember when we made a good start [TS]

01:05:49   Trek show back at the next generation [TS]

01:05:51   wow I also i think that yeah we always [TS]

01:05:54   talk about you know I the Treasury are [TS]

01:05:57   having a very bad pointless death and I [TS]

01:06:00   think we have trip Tucker dying in this [TS]

01:06:02   was just like hey what's that let me [TS]

01:06:04   just leave in front of these aliens in [TS]

01:06:06   the middle of nowhere for no reason and [TS]

01:06:10   i don't think any character on [TS]

01:06:13   enterprise is particularly good besides [TS]

01:06:15   you know [TS]

01:06:17   yeah i think the Vulcan is reasonably [TS]

01:06:19   good on there but you know to Paul but [TS]

01:06:22   hey he was he deserved a better death [TS]

01:06:25   than even the bad characters in Star [TS]

01:06:27   Trek deserve some moment for them so [TS]

01:06:31   yeah very disappointed I I just you know [TS]

01:06:35   that put it over the edge of i mean i [TS]

01:06:37   could pick up a crappy third season at [TS]

01:06:38   all original series episode that be easy [TS]

01:06:40   the way to even is good with the hippies [TS]

01:06:42   and all that but come on this is just [TS]

01:06:44   this is the capital this is the this [TS]

01:06:45   production team that the squire this [TS]

01:06:48   show through a lot of good years and [TS]

01:06:50   then and then some bad years and then at [TS]

01:06:53   the end this is just the capper wear it [TS]

01:06:55   I feel like they they hated their own [TS]

01:06:56   show [TS]

01:06:57   yeah i mean there there's a good idea [TS]

01:06:59   there i mean i could see how you could [TS]

01:07:01   do that as an episode wouldn't be need [TS]

01:07:03   to do this and oh but as the final [TS]

01:07:06   episode and and even at that i mean it's [TS]

01:07:09   an interesting idea that they just [TS]

01:07:10   there's nothing in it that's actually [TS]

01:07:13   good so we've done our we could we got [TS]

01:07:18   you sent us a lot more questions we got [TS]

01:07:19   a lot more things to draft we could we [TS]

01:07:21   get weekend that we could end this here [TS]

01:07:23   we're not going to get much further but [TS]

01:07:24   we can do a round of the of best and [TS]

01:07:26   worst character if you guys would like [TS]

01:07:27   yes ok let me be min with one of our [TS]

01:07:30   sponsors it's lynda.com lynda.com is the [TS]

01:07:40   amazingly high quality video training on [TS]

01:07:43   the internet more than 2,400 courses at [TS]

01:07:45   all skill levels done by the experts [TS]

01:07:50   it up as they go along and reading a [TS]

01:07:51   script these are the people who know how [TS]

01:07:53   to do this stuff they're the best in the [TS]

01:07:55   world at it and there's one low monthly [TS]

01:08:35   bunch of stuff about Google Docs and [TS]

01:08:37   sheets keynote six you know the list [TS]

01:08:41   goes on whether it's a learning how to [TS]

01:08:43   do photography [TS]

01:08:45   I mean anything you can think of you can [TS]

01:09:03   said your brain is going to fill with [TS]

01:09:04   the knowledge of this stuff from [TS]

01:09:13   you can learn from start to finish but [TS]

01:09:15   they're also built so you can access [TS]

01:09:17   them randomly I did that when I wanted [TS]

01:09:19   to learn a very specific thing in a i [TS]

01:09:21   believe it was a logic course and I [TS]

01:09:23   jumped right to that section and got [TS]

01:09:25   exactly what i needed to know in about [TS]

01:09:27   10 minutes and then I jump back out and [TS]

01:09:30   I didn't have to watch the whole hour [TS]

01:09:31   because I just wanted to be answer to a [TS]

01:09:33   certain thing and it was there because i [TS]

01:09:35   had access to the entire lynda.com [TS]

01:09:37   library so here's the deal go to [TS]

01:09:40   linda.com ly nba.com slash incomparable [TS]

01:09:44   and you get to access more than 2,400 [TS]

01:09:51   slash and comfortable free for seven [TS]

01:09:54   days and thank you so much to linda.com [TS]

01:09:57   for sponsoring the incomparable alright [TS]

01:09:59   we're going to move on then [TS]

01:10:00   that was good we got some we got the [TS]

01:10:02   good we got out the bad we're gonna move [TS]

01:10:03   on when do one more set of best and [TS]

01:10:05   worse and it's going to be characters [TS]

01:10:06   I'd left this open i was sort of [TS]

01:10:09   thinking it would be characters who were [TS]

01:10:11   in the credits but quite honestly if you [TS]

01:10:13   want to pick a recurring character i [TS]

01:10:14   think that would be okay and it really [TS]

01:10:15   if you want to pick anything that's why [TS]

01:10:17   I'm or am I gonna do i'm not going to [TS]

01:10:18   suspend you put on the disabled list or [TS]

01:10:20   something like that you can do whatever [TS]

01:10:21   but I was thinking would be people you [TS]

01:10:23   know presumably you're not going to say [TS]

01:10:24   Frank Gorshin in that episode of the [TS]

01:10:26   original series is that these the nasty [TS]

01:10:29   scheming yeah so Briana you want to you [TS]

01:10:32   want to elect Sherlock Holmes has played [TS]

01:10:34   by data [TS]

01:10:34   yeah i love i love that I love watching [TS]

01:10:37   displayed by Jordy Watson with a bicycle [TS]

01:10:40   haha [TS]

01:10:41   hello Piscopo is no no humor box 2003 on [TS]

01:10:48   you gotta best character absolutely [TS]

01:10:50   alright i love seven of nine [TS]

01:10:53   I love her so much as a female engineer [TS]

01:10:57   i love her I love her character i think [TS]

01:10:59   every episode she's on Voyager is [TS]

01:11:01   fantastic [TS]

01:11:03   I i would break her I I realize it like [TS]

01:11:07   Kirk like Kirk / Spock is like a holy [TS]

01:11:11   trinity you know for for Star Trek fans [TS]

01:11:14   but I think I think she's just a [TS]

01:11:16   fantastic character and I think it's so [TS]

01:11:18   unfortunate that when she came on the [TS]

01:11:21   show or even discussions of her [TS]

01:11:23   character all this all these years later [TS]

01:11:25   it tends to be about you know her body [TS]

01:11:27   or her booms and I think she's she's [TS]

01:11:31   just a fantastic actress and I think [TS]

01:11:35   she's just she has such a great dilemma [TS]

01:11:39   she's exploring her humanity I think her [TS]

01:11:42   episodes where she explores her humanity [TS]

01:11:44   are much better than datas or spots for [TS]

01:11:47   that you know for that instance so i [TS]

01:11:49   just i think that she is a character [TS]

01:11:51   there's never really been given respect [TS]

01:11:54   by the star trek audience and I think [TS]

01:11:58   she's a role model to like women in tech [TS]

01:12:00   to a certain extent so i just love her [TS]

01:12:03   character do you think the 719 here's [TS]

01:12:06   here's why I'm torn on seven of nine is [TS]

01:12:07   that I i agree i agree with everything [TS]

01:12:09   you said about seven of nine and yet at [TS]

01:12:10   the same time it's hard for me not to [TS]

01:12:12   think that the producers made the change [TS]

01:12:15   and got rid of caste and added seven of [TS]

01:12:16   nine and the way that they costumed her [TS]

01:12:18   was because they wanted to sex up [TS]

01:12:20   Voyager which doesn't take anything away [TS]

01:12:23   from the character but it certainly put [TS]

01:12:25   me in the mind of like oh boy here's [TS]

01:12:27   appears you know here they are pandering [TS]

01:12:29   the the fact is her character is [TS]

01:12:32   actually kind of fascinating because [TS]

01:12:33   it's like that I bored episode of next [TS]

01:12:36   generation right was what does it mean [TS]

01:12:37   to be a board and what does it mean to [TS]

01:12:39   unplug the Borg and with seven of nine [TS]

01:12:41   you literally you you get that entire [TS]

01:12:43   thing handled in detail because you [TS]

01:12:46   watch her change over time I just the [TS]

01:12:48   way it was she was introduced it was [TS]

01:12:49   like really this is what you're doing [TS]

01:12:51   and [TS]

01:12:51   and the way that they you know that they [TS]

01:12:53   outfitted her and all that was it felt [TS]

01:12:55   kind of kind of creepy and pantry to me [TS]

01:12:57   when they did it I guess when you're a [TS]

01:12:59   woman in the like Kiki realms you're so [TS]

01:13:02   used to insulting things pick up in this [TS]

01:13:04   in this in this it's I guess I'm just [TS]

01:13:08   numb to that at this point like yes [TS]

01:13:10   Scott and I were doing a random track [TS]

01:13:12   episode and there was some costume of [TS]

01:13:14   her with like big giant stripes under [TS]

01:13:16   her boobs and you know it's like okay [TS]

01:13:19   that's a weird costume choice but i [TS]

01:13:21   don't think it takes away from the truth [TS]

01:13:23   of her character and her arc in her [TS]

01:13:25   acting as an actress so I don't know I [TS]

01:13:28   think she's just great yeah well it's [TS]

01:13:30   kind of like the the idea of of Martin [TS]

01:13:32   Luther King convincing michelle nichols [TS]

01:13:34   to stay on the show because at least [TS]

01:13:36   you're there it's like all right here's [TS]

01:13:39   yes she's got amazing proportions but [TS]

01:13:43   she's also all of these things to she [TS]

01:13:45   has green she has no depth and yeah [TS]

01:13:49   that's like so yeah I can i get that I [TS]

01:13:53   Scott best character [TS]

01:13:55   well I i'm going to pick Reginald [TS]

01:13:58   Barclay only because i like you so much [TS]

01:14:02   10 red sparkly he's kind of the Woody [TS]

01:14:07   Allen of Star Trek without the humor and [TS]

01:14:12   the uncomfortable baggage [TS]

01:14:15   he's just he is I've talked about reg [TS]

01:14:22   Barclay before many episodes he is not [TS]

01:14:25   and he's very smart but he is not like a [TS]

01:14:28   the normal Starfleet officer that you [TS]

01:14:32   see everybody's got everything together [TS]

01:14:33   they're all very focused Reginald [TS]

01:14:36   Barclay is a self-conscious he has many [TS]

01:14:39   doubts about his own pounds he stammers [TS]

01:14:41   he is not comfortable in his body he is [TS]

01:14:46   just you know a sore thumb and he often [TS]

01:14:52   said if I somehow found myself in a [TS]

01:14:55   Starfleet uniform somehow i feel like i [TS]

01:14:58   would be red sparkly because I just [TS]

01:15:00   wouldn't know what's going on [TS]

01:15:02   and of course in his first entrance a [TS]

01:15:05   captain picard Coulson broccoli my [TS]

01:15:07   accent and it's just a poor bridge but [TS]

01:15:11   if he all he always whatever episodes he [TS]

01:15:15   is in he usually saves the day so hooray [TS]

01:15:17   for that but I've always thought of him [TS]

01:15:19   as like this this particularly obvious [TS]

01:15:22   stand-in for the star trek audience you [TS]

01:15:24   know like like I think he's a character [TS]

01:15:28   this people can relate to a little bit [TS]

01:15:31   more and I mean he's a he's a great [TS]

01:15:33   character he's on episodes voyager is [TS]

01:15:35   super likable the TNG upset season it's [TS]

01:15:38   great so yeah I think he's good [TS]

01:15:40   yeah he's a that's a great is a great [TS]

01:15:43   character i like i like multiple [TS]

01:15:45   episodes with him in it too and yeah we [TS]

01:15:47   refit surfaces on Voyager it's fun to [TS]

01:15:49   see him again like a of all the [TS]

01:15:51   characters to bring to bring back and [TS]

01:15:53   it's like you know he was never a [TS]

01:15:54   regular but they still floated and back [TS]

01:15:57   out on Voyager i really like the one [TS]

01:15:59   where you become super intelligent [TS]

01:16:01   Barkley also is like he just moved from [TS]

01:16:03   neurosis to neurosis so he's got his [TS]

01:16:05   hollow addiction [TS]

01:16:06   he's got his fear of transporters and I [TS]

01:16:09   don't even know what happened to the [TS]

01:16:10   hologram thing again and voyager i don't [TS]

01:16:13   know what what he goes to next yeah you [TS]

01:16:15   really feel like like try probably [TS]

01:16:17   should have screened him out of like he [TS]

01:16:19   he shouldn't like he should be as [TS]

01:16:21   politics autographs or something [TS]

01:16:23   Oh what I mean I guess in Voyager [TS]

01:16:26   becomes obsessed with saving Voyager [TS]

01:16:27   that's really his crazy figure waiter [TS]

01:16:29   and he does yeah Tony who you got [TS]

01:16:32   i'm going to choose Elim Garak from deep [TS]

01:16:34   space nine who is the Cardassian spy / [TS]

01:16:38   Taylor I'm just a simple tailor just a [TS]

01:16:40   simple tailor i love like all the season [TS]

01:16:43   i love his dialogue and I love his [TS]

01:16:45   banter with bashir and his interchanges [TS]

01:16:48   with cisco and he's just great and he is [TS]

01:16:50   you know the whole premise is that he's [TS]

01:16:52   this kind of exiled spy and you know is [TS]

01:16:54   he is he just a tailor probably not he's [TS]

01:16:57   not a tailor but that's you know that's [TS]

01:16:59   his front business and you know he goes [TS]

01:17:01   from being this kind of a background [TS]

01:17:03   character in the early seasons two [TS]

01:17:05   incredibly important in the major plot [TS]

01:17:08   points in the in the later seasons and I [TS]

01:17:10   just I think he's great and there's we [TS]

01:17:12   learned a lot about him and his family [TS]

01:17:13   and he's kind of our [TS]

01:17:15   up one of our windows into how you know [TS]

01:17:17   what is Cardassian lifelike and I think [TS]

01:17:19   he's great [TS]

01:17:20   or at least very interesting maybe not [TS]

01:17:22   like a great person I don't know if I [TS]

01:17:23   wanna hang out with him but in person i [TS]

01:17:26   like seeing his stories so he might kill [TS]

01:17:28   me he has a quality like every scene [TS]

01:17:30   he's in you cannot take your eyes off [TS]

01:17:32   him because he's that captivating an [TS]

01:17:34   actor it's something about his eyes too [TS]

01:17:37   huh [TS]

01:17:39   he's great that's a great character [TS]

01:17:40   under all that Cardassian makeup still [TS]

01:17:44   manages a great performance just a [TS]

01:17:46   simple tailor he's just you know he can [TS]

01:17:49   be running secrets to the Cardassian [TS]

01:17:51   government and then also he will start [TS]

01:17:53   that collar for you [TS]

01:17:55   amazing and I always thought that the [TS]

01:17:57   you know the Obsidian order and the [TS]

01:17:59   sauce ER and then we you know we find [TS]

01:18:01   out about the Federation's equivalent I [TS]

01:18:02   mean to me it was interesting that [TS]

01:18:04   there's like you know we have this you [TS]

01:18:06   know utopian thing where everyone was [TS]

01:18:07   great everyone scientists and explorers [TS]

01:18:08   but we also like everyone has like their [TS]

01:18:10   own secret police and you know and [TS]

01:18:12   that's NSA equivalents whatnot so I like [TS]

01:18:15   that [TS]

01:18:16   yeah all right good one David well you [TS]

01:18:20   know I'm I'm i love all the the various [TS]

01:18:24   characters but i'm going to pick a [TS]

01:18:26   captain and I know Archer Austin yes no [TS]

01:18:32   uh-huh you have two rigid arrogantly [TS]

01:18:34   enterprises get ya some TLC rammer [TS]

01:18:37   kelsey grammer oh yeah oh yeah no I I'm [TS]

01:18:42   gonna go with Captain Picard partly [TS]

01:18:45   because I mean growing up Jim Kirk was [TS]

01:18:47   my hero [TS]

01:18:48   you know I mean along with Jim Rockford [TS]

01:18:50   and Thomas magnet all but but and and I [TS]

01:18:54   love Ben Sisko and i love the other [TS]

01:18:56   captains but they all their sort of [TS]

01:18:58   partial characters right [TS]

01:19:02   they all have their thing right Kirk is [TS]

01:19:05   just a cowboy hero and cisco has lost [TS]

01:19:07   his wife and his the emissary and they [TS]

01:19:09   just have a thing where is Picard is [TS]

01:19:11   kind of I mean obviously he came before [TS]

01:19:13   the later captain's but he's a synthesis [TS]

01:19:16   of all of these different elements [TS]

01:19:18   because he is heroic like Kirk and he is [TS]

01:19:21   like Cisco me is like our journey is [TS]

01:19:23   like anyway but there's a tragedy to him [TS]

01:19:27   there's a tragedy but a tragic quality [TS]

01:19:29   to him especially when you get two [TS]

01:19:32   generations and you find out that his [TS]

01:19:36   brother and his nephew have perished and [TS]

01:19:39   he is the end of the Picard line and the [TS]

01:19:43   thought that he's he's going off right [TS]

01:19:46   he's exploring the universe he's doing [TS]

01:19:48   this this thing and he's probably never [TS]

01:19:51   going to get married he's probably never [TS]

01:19:53   gonna have kids that he knows about not [TS]

01:19:55   counting Romulan clones god I hated that [TS]

01:19:58   movie anyway but you know that there's [TS]

01:20:04   there's just this this gravitas to him [TS]

01:20:07   and and especially in like an episode [TS]

01:20:09   like the inner light which I could have [TS]

01:20:11   picked as it as a favorite episode just [TS]

01:20:14   patrick stewart even without saying it [TS]

01:20:17   even without it being the text of the [TS]

01:20:21   episode it comes through and the fact [TS]

01:20:23   that he's living this life with all [TS]

01:20:26   these things that he's never going to [TS]

01:20:28   have is just heartbreaking at the end [TS]

01:20:31   and it's wonderful when he when he picks [TS]

01:20:33   up the flute and he's remembering that [TS]

01:20:35   life but it's still just a memory [TS]

01:20:39   it's still just part of this experience [TS]

01:20:42   that he's had and so there's he's of [TS]

01:20:45   fully fleshed-out character where the [TS]

01:20:48   other captains are good characters i [TS]

01:20:50   like them but i would want to hang out [TS]

01:20:53   with John Luke Picard I'm not gonna say [TS]

01:20:55   a bad word about that I'm not comment I [TS]

01:20:58   have nothing bad to say about to like in [TS]

01:21:00   fact i won [TS]

01:21:01   Deep Space nine first came out and like [TS]

01:21:02   one of the like mein kind of this plot [TS]

01:21:05   or character points for cisco is that [TS]

01:21:07   like he didn't like Picard like that [TS]

01:21:09   kind of like well it's like well I don't [TS]

01:21:10   like this show them because Democrats [TS]

01:21:12   right he is a saint that was like the [TS]

01:21:15   big stumbling block in the beginning the [TS]

01:21:17   two things that screwed up Ben Sisko the [TS]

01:21:20   first thing was he hated gianluca card [TS]

01:21:22   the second thing was they made him grow [TS]

01:21:24   hair avery brooks needs to be bald with [TS]

01:21:27   a goatee once he was boom Francisco's [TS]

01:21:31   great i was watching a william shatner [TS]

01:21:34   did this documentary called the [TS]

01:21:35   captain's right and they that they broke [TS]

01:21:38   it up [TS]

01:21:39   and did some extra footage so each [TS]

01:21:42   captain has a 30-minute a special [TS]

01:21:45   devoted to them and a lot of it is [TS]

01:21:47   William Shatner getting them to talk [TS]

01:21:49   about William Shatner which is [TS]

01:21:50   interesting you know but I want to be [TS]

01:21:53   able to think of me i watch the Avery [TS]

01:21:56   Brooks Brooks section and he talked [TS]

01:21:59   about how he was so mad that they made [TS]

01:22:02   him grow hair and shave off his goatee [TS]

01:22:04   because he didn't he didn't think that [TS]

01:22:06   was true to the character and then once [TS]

01:22:08   he could have the way he wanted to look [TS]

01:22:10   he the character click for him he's [TS]

01:22:13   dynamic he's just dynamic that way a [TS]

01:22:18   line must be drawn [TS]

01:22:19   yeah yeah yeah no I really i thought [TS]

01:22:23   that line right there [TS]

01:22:24   I think some of the best acted moments [TS]

01:22:28   and all of Star Trek are by you know [TS]

01:22:30   Captain Picard and I think like Star [TS]

01:22:33   Trek has so many fantastic actors and [TS]

01:22:36   actresses but i really do think he has a [TS]

01:22:39   a level of quality beyond any of them [TS]

01:22:42   and I I i think is great for that reason [TS]

01:22:45   and even even in the worst episodes of [TS]

01:22:47   an exploration you still watch because [TS]

01:22:50   he's just so good [TS]

01:22:52   o tea hot indeed all right I'm gonna [TS]

01:22:58   wrap up the positivity with haha with as [TS]

01:23:02   you do now well you know I could order [TS]

01:23:04   this but I'm not because David you're [TS]

01:23:06   right in pointing out the enormous [TS]

01:23:07   danger potential in any content with [TS]

01:23:09   life and intelligence is fantastically [TS]

01:23:11   advances but i must point out the [TS]

01:23:13   possibilities the potential for [TS]

01:23:15   knowledge is equally great risk risk is [TS]

01:23:18   our business [TS]

01:23:19   Captain Kirk it's got to be captain kerr [TS]

01:23:21   it's gotta be generator Captain Kirk [TS]

01:23:23   Captain Kirk [TS]

01:23:25   I you know I and I can't captain kirk i [TS]

01:23:28   have i have known about Captain Kirk [TS]

01:23:29   since I before I have memory of my life [TS]

01:23:33   captain kirk was always there [TS]

01:23:34   I and on the playground despite my bowl [TS]

01:23:36   haircut I always played Captain Kirk and [TS]

01:23:38   not mr. Spock as an adult watching you [TS]

01:23:41   know there are lots of issues with the [TS]

01:23:43   original series but i gotta say i love [TS]

01:23:45   the idea that this is this guy's a poker [TS]

01:23:47   player and that he is always trying to [TS]

01:23:49   work his way out of these jams with [TS]

01:23:53   deception and trying to talk his way out [TS]

01:23:55   and trickery and yes he will rip his [TS]

01:23:58   shirt and hit you with two fists on your [TS]

01:24:01   back in a fight if he needs to but he [TS]

01:24:04   could also talk a computer into blowing [TS]

01:24:05   itself up and has many times so i just [TS]

01:24:09   love i just love it and the shadow thing [TS]

01:24:10   I mean Shatner Shatner Shatner is [TS]

01:24:12   Captain Kirk I I it is this crazy [TS]

01:24:15   larger-than-life iconic kind of [TS]

01:24:17   performance and and so I have to go for [TS]

01:24:19   it and then you know the movies actually [TS]

01:24:20   gave him some interesting depth that [TS]

01:24:23   played up sort of played against the [TS]

01:24:26   archetype that they had done in the [TS]

01:24:28   original series and I thought that was [TS]

01:24:29   really interesting most particularly in [TS]

01:24:31   star trek to that they they they forced [TS]

01:24:33   that character to deal with the common [TS]

01:24:35   the consequences of being that kind of [TS]

01:24:37   person and I thought that was good too [TS]

01:24:39   so you know he's just part of my life [TS]

01:24:41   the first time we actually learned [TS]

01:24:42   something and grows and of course they [TS]

01:24:44   they walk it back in the third one but [TS]

01:24:46   still you know he just that story he [TS]

01:24:50   goes through such an amazing art for him [TS]

01:24:53   and i gotta say you know if it weren't [TS]

01:24:56   for for that character I think I mean [TS]

01:24:59   and and I mean Kirk Spock and McCoy as a [TS]

01:25:01   trio are just brilliant [TS]

01:25:04   McCoy's McCoy such a great character too [TS]

01:25:06   if it weren't for that you know there's [TS]

01:25:09   a reason we know Sherlock Holmes there's [TS]

01:25:11   a reason we know Batman there's a reason [TS]

01:25:13   we know these these larger-than-life [TS]

01:25:15   characters Kirk is right in that mold I [TS]

01:25:19   don't think we'd have the other series [TS]

01:25:21   if it hadn't been for just the the [TS]

01:25:24   largeness of James Dieker have probably [TS]

01:25:26   true and I and in the to JJ Abrams [TS]

01:25:28   movies i really appreciated Chris prime [TS]

01:25:30   minds Kurt yeah that's why it's gonna [TS]

01:25:32   ask you do you do you like candy find [TS]

01:25:34   him a pale echo do you think yeah I [TS]

01:25:36   think they did a good job with a casting [TS]

01:25:38   because well i think it does point out [TS]

01:25:39   that these kids that these characters [TS]

01:25:40   are really interesting and that Kirk and [TS]

01:25:42   Spock and McCoy especially the dynamic [TS]

01:25:43   there although I have to say Karl [TS]

01:25:45   Urban's performances made me really [TS]

01:25:47   appreciate what a great character bones [TS]

01:25:50   is because he is there to pick apart [TS]

01:25:51   everybody else's decisions and be that [TS]

01:25:54   irritant for everybody else to not get [TS]

01:25:57   not get complacent and I think that's a [TS]

01:25:59   great role in drama to have that guy [TS]

01:26:02   there to throw some elbows and make [TS]

01:26:04   everybody uncomfortable but but i do [TS]

01:26:06   like Chris [TS]

01:26:06   fine he is the way that characters [TS]

01:26:08   written and performed in the in the [TS]

01:26:10   Abrams movies is I think true to the [TS]

01:26:12   core of of Captain Kirk so I I did [TS]

01:26:15   appreciate that i find him less annoying [TS]

01:26:17   personally except I'm not like the [TS]

01:26:19   captain kirk of the movies because that [TS]

01:26:22   is a character with gravitas and he [TS]

01:26:26   feels icky is less of a of a teenager I [TS]

01:26:30   think the Starship around the galaxy [TS]

01:26:31   baby so I don't know i really like [TS]

01:26:35   christman let's send listen strong and [TS]

01:26:38   will end negative branded wait wait [TS]

01:26:40   bring cart cart somebody out [TS]

01:26:41   oh man ok forgot to tell you know I [TS]

01:26:45   could blast too [TS]

01:26:46   there's so many bad characters good last [TS]

01:26:49   year she's so many on the particular [TS]

01:26:52   series in particular right now huh [TS]

01:26:55   you could blast Chakotay you could you [TS]

01:26:57   just I love his burritos though they're [TS]

01:27:00   doing stuff [TS]

01:27:01   yes double chicken irie complete failure [TS]

01:27:06   as a character never as an are you don't [TS]

01:27:08   know just just terribly boring i'm going [TS]

01:27:11   to be the unpopular person here and say [TS]

01:27:13   I don't particularly like McCoy yeah you [TS]

01:27:15   know he didn't go to old Miss which i [TS]

01:27:18   did but neither out [TS]

01:27:20   I know but he's such a debbie downer he [TS]

01:27:23   is his so negative all love it thank you [TS]

01:27:28   ruthlessly negative you remember that in [TS]

01:27:31   the I think it's a bit and it's in a [TS]

01:27:33   Saturday Night Live sketch when Shatner [TS]

01:27:34   was hosting but it's that it's that [TS]

01:27:36   moment where I think it's phil hartman [TS]

01:27:38   is McCoy chatter says bones i can you [TS]

01:27:42   check this guy out I think he's sick and [TS]

01:27:43   and McCoys damage Jim I'm a doctor not [TS]

01:27:45   all right yeah yeah just negative all [TS]

01:27:50   the time for no reason I realized it [TS]

01:27:52   like 40 plot perspective he exists to [TS]

01:27:55   kind of he's an irritant he makes the is [TS]

01:27:57   inherited it's what he's he's a human [TS]

01:28:01   he's he's us going why why are you doing [TS]

01:28:04   that to explain why they're doing what [TS]

01:28:06   they're doing sometimes or yeah but I [TS]

01:28:10   think despite not like unless characters [TS]

01:28:12   the the king of terrible completely [TS]

01:28:16   unredeemable Star Trek characters [TS]

01:28:19   is Neelix if it's wrapped up you tried [TS]

01:28:23   to make my peace is a lot of it's very [TS]

01:28:26   so much and you know it's like when you [TS]

01:28:28   watch alien 3 you're trying to talk [TS]

01:28:31   myself into it being a good movie i mean [TS]

01:28:33   i can see what they're doing here [TS]

01:28:36   it'sit's okay but he's so annoying you [TS]

01:28:39   so awful in every scene he's in [TS]

01:28:42   especially not one where he loses his [TS]

01:28:45   lungs he doesn't stop talking either you [TS]

01:28:49   think you don't have love that you're [TS]

01:28:50   gonna be quiet no not really annoying [TS]

01:28:54   oh my god yeah nobody is gonna argue [TS]

01:28:56   with you about me lyrics got a reason i [TS]

01:29:01   caii watch that episode where they're [TS]

01:29:03   all they all have nightmares that [TS]

01:29:04   because it was on random track and [TS]

01:29:07   that's one of the coat a dream episodes [TS]

01:29:10   oh thank you can but it'sit's Neelix in [TS]

01:29:13   his pajamas serving hot cocoa in the [TS]

01:29:16   mess and it's like no no I just came i [TS]

01:29:19   kept thinking I Neelix is a character [TS]

01:29:21   that looks like he smells bad trying to [TS]

01:29:27   take a more sympathetic view of it it's [TS]

01:29:31   like pork is annoying but court serves a [TS]

01:29:35   narrative purpose of like showing the [TS]

01:29:38   worst of human nature yet Frank nature [TS]

01:29:41   but you know yeah as a it's showing the [TS]

01:29:44   worst tennis with Star Trek showing the [TS]

01:29:47   best and and I just I I don't understand [TS]

01:29:51   what they were trying to accomplish with [TS]

01:29:53   Neelix I mean maybe [TS]

01:29:54   welcome to the Federation if you've [TS]

01:29:56   never seen a star trek series i just [TS]

01:29:58   don't understand it [TS]

01:29:59   I mean what do you think they were [TS]

01:30:00   trying to accomplish well they just [TS]

01:30:02   think the original writer had seen the [TS]

01:30:04   Thundercats and he just thought I mean [TS]

01:30:09   with work if deep space nine is [TS]

01:30:11   casablanca you have to have Peter Lorre [TS]

01:30:13   right you know but Neelix oh so I think [TS]

01:30:18   the high-concept idea with Neelix was [TS]

01:30:19   first off the cast and Neelix we're [TS]

01:30:21   going to have this kind of like weird [TS]

01:30:22   symbiotic it's like we're going to go [TS]

01:30:24   across the Delta Quadrant but they're [TS]

01:30:25   gonna be weird aliens there and they're [TS]

01:30:26   not going to be like what we build WL [TS]

01:30:29   show them around and I mean there was a [TS]

01:30:30   whole idea there [TS]

01:30:32   but it never came to pass and and even [TS]

01:30:34   Phillips while he seems to be a [TS]

01:30:36   perfectly nice fellow was I mean he's a [TS]

01:30:38   UH it's it's a it's not a good fit its [TS]

01:30:42   and the makeup is weird and he doesn't [TS]

01:30:44   do anything and it's not good and they [TS]

01:30:46   even came up with a Neelix's cookbook of [TS]

01:30:49   all the time I in books they did [TS]

01:30:51   yeah and it's it was just it's got this [TS]

01:30:54   kind of terrifying cover of him with a [TS]

01:30:55   chef's hat just looking very jolly and [TS]

01:30:58   the many ways to prepare Neelix for your [TS]

01:31:00   real i am going to christmas stroll [TS]

01:31:03   someone with that gift this year [TS]

01:31:05   together and he looks good but he likes [TS]

01:31:08   cut book to christmas stroll them and [TS]

01:31:10   he's going to be great scott million [TS]

01:31:12   jars haha he likes his lungs enjoyed his [TS]

01:31:16   Josh yes all right that is a great [TS]

01:31:20   choice [TS]

01:31:21   nobody's going to argue with you Scott [TS]

01:31:22   you i can't wait to hear who you pick [TS]

01:31:25   that way [TS]

01:31:25   well let's let's stay with Voyager shall [TS]

01:31:27   we let's pick the other worst character [TS]

01:31:35   even I think s has some redeeming value [TS]

01:31:38   Harry Kim I love that episode where he [TS]

01:31:40   dies though and maybe there's another [TS]

01:31:41   one so scared that he gets thrown out of [TS]

01:31:45   voyeurism you just watch that little [TS]

01:31:47   10-minute clip-on unlockable I don't [TS]

01:31:51   know I don't know what Harry Kim is [TS]

01:31:53   supposed to do other than annoy me i [TS]

01:31:56   I've watched several episodes of Voyager [TS]

01:31:59   recently thank you to the random nature [TS]

01:32:02   of random track and Harry Kim has done [TS]

01:32:05   nothing but cause trouble and be a [TS]

01:32:08   bumbling idiot he I don't think he was [TS]

01:32:11   even in the 1i watched longingly he [TS]

01:32:14   should have had his organs too hard that [TS]

01:32:16   it did work out the aliens come if we [TS]

01:32:21   got it we got hairy kids are considered [TS]

01:32:23   you want them [TS]

01:32:23   no no no you can keep doesn't know what [TS]

01:32:26   just put those back my husband's chinese [TS]

01:32:29   and my husband utterly hates their care [TS]

01:32:33   your safety is the worst racist [TS]

01:32:37   stereotype of like asian men because [TS]

01:32:40   he's completely incompetent exam board [TS]

01:32:43   he's a bumbler he never [TS]

01:32:45   it's the girl he is the butt of every [TS]

01:32:48   single joke and it's like the Paramount [TS]

01:32:50   with Tom Paris to like gallivant around [TS]

01:32:53   the galaxy with this you know i used the [TS]

01:32:55   asian sidekick and he's just bad he's [TS]

01:32:58   bad in he does have some episodes where [TS]

01:33:01   he grows as a character and I do think [TS]

01:33:05   he does have an arc eventually but he's [TS]

01:33:08   really annoying for most of the series I [TS]

01:33:10   think [TS]

01:33:11   yep again nobody died I nobody's gonna [TS]

01:33:14   argue the point [TS]

01:33:14   Tony Tony what do you got [TS]

01:33:18   I well Neelix was just at the top of my [TS]

01:33:20   list in like number 1 through 15 or so [TS]

01:33:23   hope haha so I just I just hate him so [TS]

01:33:28   much [TS]

01:33:28   there's nothing below that long but [TS]

01:33:31   let's talk about how much we hate him [TS]

01:33:33   just some more pictures to be links [TS]

01:33:36   again marion222 fix you can throw in to [TS]

01:33:39   fix i would like to draft he looks again [TS]

01:33:42   the ultimate University of clicks so i [TS]

01:33:48   guess to pick one of just kind of off [TS]

01:33:50   the top of my head you know I find nog [TS]

01:33:54   pretty annoying I i think most of the [TS]

01:33:56   child characters are not very well [TS]

01:33:57   written and not very well acted and he I [TS]

01:34:00   mean like some of the other foreign [TS]

01:34:02   characters like seem to have a little [TS]

01:34:04   bit more purpose and you know not gets [TS]

01:34:05   better eventually he just doesn't have [TS]

01:34:07   to die like he doesn't die and that like [TS]

01:34:09   eventually and sixty five or six years [TS]

01:34:11   he'll be okay he'll join Starfleet but [TS]

01:34:13   like there's a long long path in between [TS]

01:34:17   where he is just like i miss and i'm [TS]

01:34:19   going to get Jake into trouble and I'm [TS]

01:34:20   gonna do that getting together and every [TS]

01:34:23   now and then i will get mischievous like [TS]

01:34:25   in a diplomatic situation or something [TS]

01:34:28   very high stakes and I just I I do not I [TS]

01:34:31   do not like that i do not care for nog [TS]

01:34:34   so you can get a good deal on [TS]

01:34:36   self-sealing stem bolts so I'm all about [TS]

01:34:38   Felix temple you don't want to steal [TS]

01:34:41   assembled definitely no it's no good [TS]

01:34:45   who I like that episode but at you know [TS]

01:34:47   I don't like knock every time I see nog [TS]

01:34:50   in when he goes off to the Academy comes [TS]

01:34:52   back and he's got a little outfit with [TS]

01:34:54   his little like Starfleet colored [TS]

01:34:55   Ferengi hat [TS]

01:34:57   head back of the head thing I it just is [TS]

01:35:00   weird and it seems and and I don't think [TS]

01:35:03   I believe that he sensed sorry I'm being [TS]

01:35:05   racist against foreign keys but it's [TS]

01:35:06   like it's jason but it's not it's just [TS]

01:35:09   it's there's some nice stuff they do [TS]

01:35:11   we're like you know like Cisco makes [TS]

01:35:13   them do like all the worst chores ever [TS]

01:35:15   in order to get like like like you're [TS]

01:35:18   trying really hard but let's let's see [TS]

01:35:20   if we can incorporate some hazing into [TS]

01:35:21   this and he's a true friend of of Jake [TS]

01:35:25   and that's yeah like it's kinda like the [TS]

01:35:27   kind of like take the worst parts of [TS]

01:35:29   Leslie and just you know and then like [TS]

01:35:32   let's make some bring in there and [TS]

01:35:33   really cranked up to 11 [TS]

01:35:35   yeah everybody loves the frame David I'm [TS]

01:35:39   going back to deep space 9 0 because the [TS]

01:35:44   seventh season just I it did they really [TS]

01:35:48   need as Redax wouldn't have ya wouldn't [TS]

01:35:52   have been much more tragic to have lost [TS]

01:35:54   the symbionts to and then you know [TS]

01:35:57   you've got it that would have been so [TS]

01:35:59   much more interesting than oh let's all [TS]

01:36:01   try to get used to the new girl and all [TS]

01:36:03   and hey look she's kinda interested in [TS]

01:36:05   Bashir now haha there's irony for you [TS]

01:36:08   and I was just I mean she was a fine [TS]

01:36:12   actress there's nothing that was all the [TS]

01:36:14   writing was just badly badly conceived [TS]

01:36:17   badly written and it took away time from [TS]

01:36:21   what was a really good story in the last [TS]

01:36:23   season I mean as much as I hate Harry [TS]

01:36:26   came and Neelix and enterprise I I found [TS]

01:36:30   her very empty i remember watching those [TS]

01:36:32   episodes with her and I mean tax is what [TS]

01:36:35   the daikon equipmen of all of Star Trek [TS]

01:36:39   and to just you know here she goes from [TS]

01:36:43   being a scientist and a genius and and [TS]

01:36:46   an equal to cisco really right and then [TS]

01:36:50   she goes from that to being you know dr. [TS]

01:36:52   Phil yeah just so empty like you you [TS]

01:36:57   don't you don't there's this razor that [TS]

01:37:00   it'sit's this like softness tempered [TS]

01:37:02   with like a really sharp intellect in [TS]

01:37:05   tax for most of ds9 and [TS]

01:37:08   and the new actress just lacks all of [TS]

01:37:10   that it just didn't feel true to the [TS]

01:37:12   character at all especially there's so [TS]

01:37:15   much happening in that last season of [TS]

01:37:17   deep space 9 that like it just [TS]

01:37:20   introducing another main character like [TS]

01:37:22   it there wasn't room for that right [TS]

01:37:25   it was I mean I it was i I don't really [TS]

01:37:27   understand what wire [TS]

01:37:29   why are they there right i mean it's [TS]

01:37:31   like because they don't make there's not [TS]

01:37:32   enough room for them to do something [TS]

01:37:34   with that character it so it's just [TS]

01:37:35   there's kind of another character for [TS]

01:37:37   for one season and I yeah [TS]

01:37:39   the Cold War is a perfectly fine actress [TS]

01:37:41   and it's really not your fault it's not [TS]

01:37:43   the it's the how do they deal with terry [TS]

01:37:45   farrell wanted to leave the show and and [TS]

01:37:48   you're right [TS]

01:37:48   why do we need another character going [TS]

01:37:51   into this fine everybody knows it's the [TS]

01:37:52   last season there's so much story here [TS]

01:37:55   I think they were so intrigued with the [TS]

01:37:56   idea of having their the viewers deal [TS]

01:37:59   with the the symbian change because [TS]

01:38:01   that's the whole story of the symbionts [TS]

01:38:03   is that you know you can get to know [TS]

01:38:04   them as one person and then their mix [TS]

01:38:06   differently in another and I could see [TS]

01:38:07   that but it's almost like you want to do [TS]

01:38:09   that maybe you should do that as an [TS]

01:38:10   episode have Dax come back for one [TS]

01:38:12   episode in a different body not to cast [TS]

01:38:15   a new character and again I mean really [TS]

01:38:17   what did they do with that character [TS]

01:38:20   over several stories that they didn't do [TS]

01:38:23   in the very original episode with the [TS]

01:38:25   trail on the next generation that were [TS]

01:38:27   with the early episodes of deep space [TS]

01:38:29   nine with other trail things it's like [TS]

01:38:31   know you've already done the oh it's a [TS]

01:38:32   different person huh [TS]

01:38:34   I you know I think Jett taxes of a fine [TS]

01:38:38   character but I feel like they go back [TS]

01:38:39   to the trail well like a little yeah a [TS]

01:38:43   little too much right i mean i think she [TS]

01:38:44   works great as a character and there's [TS]

01:38:45   interesting stuff to her that's based on [TS]

01:38:47   her past life and there's some good [TS]

01:38:49   episodes in there but like they I think [TS]

01:38:51   they try and get more there than there [TS]

01:38:52   is that they did some other poisoning [TS]

01:38:54   the trail well is that what your time I [TS]

01:38:56   i did you know they've drawn more water [TS]

01:38:58   than it has somebody fall into the trail [TS]

01:39:00   well uh okay i get to wrap this up and [TS]

01:39:04   I'm gonna see i'm going to try to [TS]

01:39:06   hearken back to what bring on a set of [TS]

01:39:07   the beginning which is you know we're [TS]

01:39:09   going to are we going to end here as [TS]

01:39:10   friends or is there going to be horrible [TS]

01:39:12   controversy that makes people scream and [TS]

01:39:16   that's why i'm going to say Q is a [TS]

01:39:20   terrible character [TS]

01:39:21   and here i think everybody everybody [TS]

01:39:23   likes q right everybody talks about qoq [TS]

01:39:25   QQ right okay well and i remember john [TS]

01:39:27   de lancie from when he was on you know [TS]

01:39:29   soap operas and stuff like that but but [TS]

01:39:31   here's the thing but q.q has some good [TS]

01:39:33   episodes but Q is bad in a lot of [TS]

01:39:35   respects first off there's some episodes [TS]

01:39:37   that are just bad that he was in like [TS]

01:39:39   cupid is a good example that is a bad [TS]

01:39:41   episode it's stupid dumb jokes it's bad [TS]

01:39:44   q is also badly written and an excuse [TS]

01:39:47   oftentimes to make random things happen [TS]

01:39:50   like he's a he's a crutch was like let's [TS]

01:39:52   bring you back he's all-powerful he'll [TS]

01:39:54   just do some stuff and and I feel like [TS]

01:39:56   he removes a lot of drama from a lot of [TS]

01:39:58   episodes because Q is always there to be [TS]

01:40:00   omnipotent and he can literally do [TS]

01:40:02   anything so anything that happens can be [TS]

01:40:04   explained away by the writers being well [TS]

01:40:05   you know it's cute what you're gonna do [TS]

01:40:07   it his appearance encounter at Farpoint [TS]

01:40:10   is not good [TS]

01:40:12   it's a it's it's it's really it's a bad [TS]

01:40:14   episode and he's bad in it he comes back [TS]

01:40:17   in all good things in the last episode [TS]

01:40:19   and that's partly to bookend because he [TS]

01:40:22   was in the first episode [TS]

01:40:23   he's not badly used in that episode he's [TS]

01:40:25   great and tapestry which we did a random [TS]

01:40:27   Trek about but and he introduces the [TS]

01:40:30   Borg in in q Who but even there although [TS]

01:40:33   he's dark and interesting briefly also [TS]

01:40:36   it's a weird episode because you feel [TS]

01:40:38   like the whole thing is like an [TS]

01:40:39   unveiling of the board because he was [TS]

01:40:42   going to come and flip them over there [TS]

01:40:44   and then he's gonna flip them home and [TS]

01:40:45   say goodbye everybody and I just don't [TS]

01:40:47   like that i don't like this omnipotent [TS]

01:40:49   character I don't think he's that funny [TS]

01:40:51   I don't think he has many dimensions I [TS]

01:40:54   don't think Delancy can play as many [TS]

01:40:55   dimensions as they tried to have him [TS]

01:40:57   play and so I guess what I'm saying is [TS]

01:40:59   that any overused him and kept bringing [TS]

01:41:02   him back [TS]

01:41:03   I know and and you know I did I don't [TS]

01:41:05   like you I although I like fuq episodes [TS]

01:41:08   i actually think tapestry is his best [TS]

01:41:09   episode and it's because in some ways [TS]

01:41:11   you don't even know if he was really [TS]

01:41:13   there he's just he could all be in [TS]

01:41:15   Picard's head and i love that I think [TS]

01:41:17   that's a great use of him but I think he [TS]

01:41:19   got over you something he got misused so [TS]

01:41:22   I'm gonna you know I'm gonna say down q [TS]

01:41:25   I i don't agree with you but I think [TS]

01:41:27   it's a good argument I think you swayed [TS]

01:41:30   me [TS]

01:41:31   yeah i know i was i was hesitant at [TS]

01:41:33   first but you made us wait [TS]

01:41:35   I never liked you but I like some of the [TS]

01:41:37   episodes I think tapestry is in fact the [TS]

01:41:39   best episode and it's it says something [TS]

01:41:42   that it's the only its except for the [TS]

01:41:44   finale the only one that doesn't have Q [TS]

01:41:46   in the title which makes you wonder [TS]

01:41:48   again you know was he really they're [TS]

01:41:49   right but that would be the one thing [TS]

01:41:52   that I don't like a cross all the next [TS]

01:41:54   generation is that multiple times [TS]

01:41:57   Picard and the enterprise over their [TS]

01:41:59   existence 2q saving them in the end you [TS]

01:42:03   know [TS]

01:42:03   oh here the board here the board the [TS]

01:42:04   only thing that saves us from i fly i [TS]

01:42:06   flash your way but they're coming for [TS]

01:42:08   you now and he goes away and that pissed [TS]

01:42:11   me off when I watched the first time and [TS]

01:42:13   then every other you know it's like it's [TS]

01:42:16   just how many times do we have to owe [TS]

01:42:19   our lives to queue and and that bugs me [TS]

01:42:23   that just bugs me in terms of the the [TS]

01:42:25   journey of the hero and all that stuff [TS]

01:42:26   it's like no no you guys must love it [TS]

01:42:29   when it comes back later he's like I'm [TS]

01:42:31   gonna I'm gonna pick a bunch of other [TS]

01:42:32   Starfleet officers to harass you happen [TS]

01:42:34   to be honest on shows that you're [TS]

01:42:35   watching right now conveniently I like a [TS]

01:42:38   lot of Q moments and when he comes back [TS]

01:42:40   on deep space 9 is probably my favorite [TS]

01:42:42   q moment because cisco punches him and [TS]

01:42:47   he says shall never hit me [TS]

01:42:49   what about we become sexually obsessed [TS]

01:42:52   with that Captain Janeway that's kind of [TS]

01:42:55   awkward I felt like she's just trying to [TS]

01:42:57   do a job you know and you don't want an [TS]

01:42:59   omnipotent being to become obsessed with [TS]

01:43:00   you it seems like a bad idea [TS]

01:43:03   also also I want to pick you because [TS]

01:43:06   it's just too easy to pick Wesley and [TS]

01:43:08   quite honestly at the end at the end [TS]

01:43:10   Wesley actually got a little bit better [TS]

01:43:11   at that first season Wesley wear these [TS]

01:43:14   again [TS]

01:43:15   Wesley keep off the grass Wesley keep [TS]

01:43:18   off the grass then Wesley basically [TS]

01:43:21   becomes like a cue light right yeah yeah [TS]

01:43:24   wesley wright scott-wesley becomes the [TS]

01:43:27   traveler the traveler [TS]

01:43:29   ah yeah that's good times I feel like [TS]

01:43:31   the most overrated and underrated Star [TS]

01:43:34   Trek character will be a good like [TS]

01:43:36   category for this list on a future [TS]

01:43:38   episode [TS]

01:43:38   alright so I'm going to add that [TS]

01:43:40   overrated and underrated we also have [TS]

01:43:42   like we're talking about best series [TS]

01:43:44   were series best movies and worst movies [TS]

01:43:46   this captain's the worst happens but you [TS]

01:43:47   know what [TS]

01:43:48   that's gonna have to wait for part two [TS]

01:43:50   of Star Trek best and worse we're going [TS]

01:43:52   to come back another time to do even [TS]

01:43:55   more and maybe we'll do more best/worst [TS]

01:43:57   characters to why not o.o who is the [TS]

01:43:59   well there's Maude the barber i was [TS]

01:44:03   going to say map mon amour and we should [TS]

01:44:04   talk about their favorite characters [TS]

01:44:05   with no dialogue [TS]

01:44:06   you know I has spot and Porthos oh yeah [TS]

01:44:10   and don't don't put them together I [TS]

01:44:14   always preferred from the cards fish [TS]

01:44:15   that I can never remember the type of a [TS]

01:44:17   little and it slipped Livingston with [TS]

01:44:19   his name wasn't well no but the name of [TS]

01:44:21   the fish which is you know like 15 [TS]

01:44:23   syllables [TS]

01:44:24   it's the International fish of Hawaii [TS]

01:44:27   well I'm not national no that's not [TS]

01:44:28   that's not that fish that's a different [TS]

01:44:29   fish I've seen that fish and but the [TS]

01:44:34   Leah Brahms the SLS the holographic [TS]

01:44:36   girlfriend version the majority can't [TS]

01:44:38   get a real girlfriend so we always give [TS]

01:44:40   them holographic girlfriends I like the [TS]

01:44:42   awkward real-life version where she [TS]

01:44:44   finds out about the holographic Russian [TS]

01:44:45   oh that's so good so sweet so sweet and [TS]

01:44:49   you've been playing date with me in the [TS]

01:44:51   holodeck forage and you thought were [TS]

01:44:55   really have problems yeah that that's [TS]

01:44:57   really awkward [TS]

01:44:58   Derek one of my favorite or gold ducat [TS]

01:45:01   event so golden cock cool to come out [TS]

01:45:03   yeah that's right [TS]

01:45:05   this is a lot more civil that was [TS]

01:45:06   thinking it was going to be this is good [TS]

01:45:10   this is good as diminish my guess is [TS]

01:45:12   there's a lot of places to go here [TS]

01:45:13   yes that's true so we will go there [TS]

01:45:15   later but for this see because then we [TS]

01:45:18   have more star trek episodes in against [TS]

01:45:20   the star wars episodes and we're up the [TS]

01:45:22   ratio because that is our goal here is [TS]

01:45:24   to get more star trek episodes on the [TS]

01:45:25   company you're fair and balanced I am [TS]

01:45:27   trying to get the well I was so I was so [TS]

01:45:29   fair to star wars that i did like a [TS]

01:45:31   billion episodes of Star Wars and and [TS]

01:45:33   you could say that you were to fair I [TS]

01:45:36   think you could and I and and i think he [TS]

01:45:38   just did Tony and I do [TS]

01:45:40   alright I'm going to wrap it up then [TS]

01:45:43   this has been great we gonna do this [TS]

01:45:44   again soon we got we got to this was too [TS]

01:45:46   too much fun Brianna Wu thank you for [TS]

01:45:48   coming back on it was great to have you [TS]

01:45:50   lately and we and we all we all survive [TS]

01:45:52   we're all okay I'm okay okay we talk [TS]

01:45:55   this out we did we all we all leave the [TS]

01:45:59   arena as we entered it [TS]

01:46:00   we're all doing good [TS]

01:46:01   Scott Mykelti thank you for being here [TS]

01:46:03   best and worst theme song haha that's [TS]

01:46:08   not even a contest and of course you [TS]

01:46:09   know we planted a few times because [TS]

01:46:11   people should listen to random track [TS]

01:46:12   which is a hoot where Scott talks to [TS]

01:46:15   somebody about at random episode of star [TS]

01:46:18   track which is forced me to watch these [TS]

01:46:20   weird episodes of Voyager that I've not [TS]

01:46:22   helpful [TS]

01:46:25   yeah and enterprise to know is that [TS]

01:46:27   enterprise where everybody's asleep it's [TS]

01:46:29   like it should be [TS]

01:46:30   Chakotay should appear in a dream except [TS]

01:46:33   this time don't like one of those [TS]

01:46:35   episodes day lord thank you for being [TS]

01:46:38   here thank you and hey stay tuned for [TS]

01:46:41   that Neelix's lungs episode of random [TS]

01:46:43   track it's it's genius [TS]

01:46:44   I can't wait to see who gets that one I [TS]

01:46:46   don't have to watch that episode of [TS]

01:46:48   voyager right i mean i can just listen [TS]

01:46:49   you guys talk about it [TS]

01:46:50   no no you have to watch I'm not [TS]

01:46:52   suffering through that'll no I well I [TS]

01:46:54   guess I'll get there [TS]

01:46:55   didn't you already suffer through it [TS]

01:46:56   alone say their temporal loop here [TS]

01:46:59   what's going on something that's really [TS]

01:47:00   say about about life is you you have to [TS]

01:47:03   watch Star Trek episodes alone when you [TS]

01:47:05   watch an episode a random episode of [TS]

01:47:07   voyager were all O'Brien here and and [TS]

01:47:11   Tony you keep talking i can say goodbye [TS]

01:47:13   to you goodbye Tony my questions thank [TS]

01:47:15   you for being here it's fun and thank [TS]

01:47:17   you for everybody out there you can send [TS]

01:47:18   us your hate mail about how we how we [TS]

01:47:20   said that the your favorite thing wasn't [TS]

01:47:22   wasn't [TS]

01:47:24   or vice versa do that to you love mail [TS]

01:47:26   about how the thing you love [TS]

01:47:28   we also love you can do that until next [TS]

01:47:31   time on the uncomfortable I've adjacent [TS]

01:47:33   cell goodbye [TS]
