  Wow from the time i watch them whatever [TS]

  it was three years ago and it [TS]

  Prometheus was that so what about the [TS]

  alien vs predator franchise Steve no [TS]

  that's not canon finger let's not let's [TS]

  not [TS]

  no no that's the very very dangerous [TS]

  place to talk to see where some of us [TS]

  don't even count alien cubed know for [TS]

  the next one anyway [TS]

  alien so alien is a movie that I think [TS]

  we are all too young to say that we went [TS]

  in and saw the movie and were surprised [TS]

  at what happens in it is that accurate [TS]

  because I always knew this is the movie [TS]

  where somebody has an alien come out of [TS]

  their chests spoilers for alien by the [TS]

  way points for almost 40 year old movie [TS]

  I definitely saw spaceballs before I saw [TS]

  Bailey I think I did too i didn't matter [TS]

  i saw alien in the theater I was seven [TS]

  at the time to be responsible [TS]

  well that's when it was out it's not [TS]

  like I could tell them to lay the movie [TS]

  for another three years until it's [TS]

  appropriate for me not surprised Steve [TS]

  not surprised one bit sudden theater [TS]

  with my sister and but I can honestly [TS]

  say that i was surprised because I had [TS]

  already i had a copy of a alien the [TS]

  illustrated story i think it was called [TS]

  i basically the heavy metal a associated [TS]

  graphic novel written by archie goodwin [TS]

  i think was i believe so and it was very [TS]

  very good and it also included several [TS]

  the scenes that were not yet clipped [TS]

  from the script at the time that the the [TS]

  graphic novel was written right met it [TS]

  was it was a revelation when the dvds [TS]

  and the blue race came out and i finally [TS]

  saw these scenes that I remember being [TS]

  in the graphic novel that were in the [TS]

  movie but yeah the the the chest burster [TS]

  thing was not a shock to me probably [TS]

  wouldn't have been that big shock [TS]

  yeah even if i had seen it sight unseen [TS]

  I hadn't I wasn't surprised me but not [TS]

  because it had been spoiled by reading a [TS]

  comic or people telling me but because i [TS]

  actually read the novelization by alan [TS]

  dean foster I ever saw the movie is [TS]

  really good novelization as well it is [TS]

  and it also featured those parts that [TS]

  were you know sort of subsequently cut [TS]

  out of the script which confuse the hell [TS]

  of me when I first did actually see the [TS]

  movie the eyesore on VHS first and that [TS]

  was what first intrigued me about the [TS]

  about the film was that the aladin [TS]

  foster novelizations on a shelf and the [TS]

  movie poster was the cover for it and I [TS]

  thought they were summarized strangely [TS]

  intriguing about that that cover and [TS]

  that was it's a classic poster is a [TS]

  classic sort even know it [TS]

  it does sort of diverging lot from what [TS]

  actually happens in the movie [TS]

  yes but and the egg doesn't even look [TS]

  like the eggs in the movie it's a it's a [TS]

  hand raised or something as well it [TS]

  certainly doesn't doesn't shoot green [TS]

  lightning out of line and hover that [TS]

  will never happen to our field and even [TS]

  the tagline on the poster i believe is [TS]

  in space no one can hear you scream [TS]

  that's correct but to quote the magazine [TS]

  parody of this movie they make an awful [TS]

  lot of noise I remember this the as a as [TS]

  a thing and pop pop culture just [TS]

  literally aliens the movie where that [TS]

  guy has is a chest ripped open by an [TS]

  alien and purse out and I I had not seen [TS]

  it in fact i read in arthur c clarke not [TS]

  ball 2010 they wanted there's a joke [TS]

  about how they stock alien on the ship's [TS]

  library when they're flying to Jupiter [TS]

  and somebody watches it and says who put [TS]

  this on here these people in the [TS]

  spaceship and at that point I still [TS]

  hadn't seen it but I knew what they were [TS]

  getting and I didn't I probably saw it [TS]

  at not too long after sometime in the [TS]

  late eighties but for me it was all [TS]

  about that one scene and not really [TS]

  knowing anything else about it i mean [TS]

  and then knowing that it was became a [TS]

  franchise I guess the other thing [TS]

  because then aliens came out and was a [TS]

  big hit to and then all the other things [TS]

  happen but I really didn't catch up with [TS]

  the alien franchise and told ya like the [TS]

  late eighties I think I so it was [TS]

  already a franchise when you I think so [TS]

  right when the aliens come out right [TS]

  alien ETS six yeah I'm pretty sure about [TS]

  aliens first and then went back to see [TS]

  alien wow I might have as well I know [TS]

  for sure like Monty I saw spaceballs [TS]

  first and first time I saw spaceballs i [TS]

  think was just on VHS it was with my [TS]

  parents who are big geeks and they [TS]

  actually had to explain the chest sorry [TS]

  spoilers for spaceballs explain the the [TS]

  chest burster seen spaceballs to me [TS]

  because I just didn't really get it [TS]

  because i didn't really know about the [TS]

  zeitgeist of of science-fiction horror [TS]

  movies at the time so they had to be [TS]

  like I don't know it's in it's the same [TS]

  guy from that from this movie where this [TS]

  happened so yeah thanks mom and dad [TS]

  yeah I had also that I had family [TS]

  disapproval when I was just being 10 or [TS]

  11 and my sister and I used to stare [TS]

  grandparents during summer holidays and [TS]

  often are young son Cole he's only a few [TS]

  years older than us and our cousins were [TS]

  there as well and they were just [TS]

  horrified to learn to be hansung alien [TS]

  or aliens or any had any opinion about [TS]

  alien so when we can we got to watch all [TS]

  three movies which is ok you know it [TS]

  wasn't ok was really weird and scary the [TS]

  most of it and it was probably worse for [TS]

  my sister who was really not kid with [TS]

  like the witches ruled else which is [TS]

  movie that scared the crap out of [TS]

  partners presumably meant for children [TS]

  it's so obvious next step is alien [TS]

  wasn't coping very well this but I want [TS]

  to help very constant comment rate so [TS]

  the chest purchasing wasn't exactly [TS]

  surprised when you've got your own [TS]

  cookbook [TS]

  wait for it wait for our way [TS]

  don't hurt what's your heart you're like [TS]

  yeah ok ok could be just so just chill [TS]

  relax enjoy the tension in the [TS]

  atmosphere instead of you telling me [TS]

  fact after fact that i don't know i mean [TS]

  it was talking I was told [TS]

  oh and this is tom skerritt never was [TS]

  really shocked about how is colin like [TS]

  have no idea tom skerritt it's why are [TS]

  you telling me I still want to be tom [TS]

  skerritt ya see by the time i saw this i [TS]

  had already seen top gun so I knew [TS]

  exactly who tom skerritt us part of the [TS]

  other reason that people were so shocked [TS]

  was because of course he's you know the [TS]

  heroic mail man you looking captain and [TS]

  you know that in itself was just quite a [TS]

  surprise at the time I was twelve [TS]

  thirteen when I saw this I know I kind [TS]

  of been older than 13 because I [TS]

  definitely saw it before aliens came out [TS]

  in 86 and i had a friend who was [TS]

  absolutely obsessed with this movie I [TS]

  mean to like obsessed with this with [TS]

  Geiger just everything and I became a [TS]

  little obsessed but nowhere near on the [TS]

  level of that he was and he was also [TS]

  really good artist so he would literally [TS]

  spend all day like drawing aliens and [TS]

  scenes from the movie and he had all the [TS]

  paraphernalia and it was just crazy so [TS]

  I'd try and get Gerard on your pc folder [TS]

  is a good way to get right principles [TS]

  yeah so yeah I saw this movie a lot when [TS]

  I was you know quite young but I don't [TS]

  know I I think it's one of those things [TS]

  that are it's another of those movies [TS]

  where there's so much that actually [TS]

  isn't on screen that apart from the [TS]

  chest bursting seen does not actually [TS]

  that much in it sort of physical Igor [TS]

  why is that is unsuitable for kids it's [TS]

  just that it's so tense and scary and [TS]

  just herbing yet is not very bloody at [TS]

  all it's really not apart from the [TS]

  Chester yet except for that one scene [TS]

  where everybody gets covered [TS]

  apart from that but that's that's that's [TS]

  really the Soul scene [TS]

  yeah thatthat's particular which is [TS]

  another reason it's so shocking right [TS]

  a parker gets carried off you know we [TS]

  don't see what really what happens to [TS]

  him a Dallas he gets grabbed and you [TS]

  don't see anything that happens to him [TS]

  because he was [TS]

  originally destined to be a future host [TS]

  for an alien and lambert & Parker we [TS]

  just sort of see from the distance and [TS]

  there's blood dripping down but it's not [TS]

  like you see this is not even in focus [TS]

  yeah there's like I have a really quick [TS]

  shot that if you posit you can see what [TS]

  happens when the aliens little extended [TS]

  dead teeth come out and bite it [TS]

  Parker's head but that's about it that's [TS]

  it it's very low-key internet going [TS]

  it's like a slasher movie but the line [TS]

  item for fake blood instead went for KY [TS]

  jelly haha so this is what i want to [TS]

  mention is is that this is a movie with [TS]

  lots of sci-fi trappings that are very [TS]

  interesting i think that it it was a lot [TS]

  i kept I kept thinking as I watched it [TS]

  as most 1970 sci-fi movies do a tone was [TS]

  a huge debt to 2001 but it is a horror [TS]

  movie where everybody gets picked off [TS]

  one by one I think at its core like [TS]

  steve was listing be dead ways everybody [TS]

  dies [TS]

  everybody dies one by one until only [TS]

  Sigourney Weaver is left it is a horror [TS]

  movie in that way and that's one of the [TS]

  things that I think is fascinating about [TS]

  it is that it is it is just a horror [TS]

  movie set in a sci-fi world but it is [TS]

  unabashedly you know a slasher movie [TS]

  where the slasher is not a a phantasm or [TS]

  a madman but a killer alien but [TS]

  otherwise it's just don't you know it [TS]

  it's a slasher movie [TS]

  yeah actually I took a class in college [TS]

  called film styles and genre with David [TS]

  bordwell the american film theorists and [TS]

  historian and the every every semester [TS]

  he would do a different genre and I [TS]

  would I lucked out and got horror for [TS]

  the genre therefore the the semester i [TS]

  happen to be doing it an alien i think [TS]

  was one of the one of the first things [TS]

  that we actually watched and talked [TS]

  about for that class so i have just sort [TS]

  of always seen it as a horror movie [TS]

  because i know i had seen it before that [TS]

  but I had seen aliens so many more times [TS]

  and that of course is not a horror movie [TS]

  that's an actual yeah so my memories my [TS]

  memories of alien are really just Oh [TS]

  abiding Lee paying attention to the [TS]

  horror elements because that is that's [TS]

  sort of how I I really paid attention to [TS]

  it the first time I [TS]

  dug into the film actually the nastiest [TS]

  death by far is has got to be ash and [TS]

  yeah yeah i mean it and and the only [TS]

  reason I think that even would have [TS]

  passed muster as an r rating is because [TS]

  he's squirting milky fluid instead [TS]

  relies yeah it's pretty it's pretty foul [TS]

  if you watch it in the context of him [TS]

  being a human you know I think one of [TS]

  the reasons that this movie was has [TS]

  become so influential is because of that [TS]

  combination of Johnson guess it is a [TS]

  horror movie but it's a really good [TS]

  horror movie and because the sci-fi is a [TS]

  setting rather than the sort of driver [TS]

  in the sense of what we think of as hard [TS]

  sci-fi and also because it does such a [TS]

  good job of that kind of working-class [TS]

  dirty sci-fi yeah you know that you're [TS]

  so funny things like Star Wars but [TS]

  obviously very different context there [TS]

  because the size is setting it doesn't [TS]

  require sort of my friend Frankie [TS]

  cornered leanings in order to appreciate [TS]

  the horror movie aspect of it and you [TS]

  know both of those genres are so [TS]

  maligned schlocky so many so often and [TS]

  yet this is regarded as a classic well [TS]

  in 1979 that was a pretty valid [TS]

  complaint oh sure sure but then along [TS]

  came this and suddenly this was winning [TS]

  awards [TS]

  I mean it literally won an Academy Award [TS]

  I'm indicate was for effect but you know [TS]

  has incredible i like to compare to 2001 [TS]

  for its aesthetic which is the polar [TS]

  opposite of 2,000 ones gleaming [TS]

  antiseptic stanley kubrick style whereas [TS]

  this is even before you see any people [TS]

  it's a spaceship that people live in its [TS]

  grungy even more than Star Wars is lived [TS]

  in universe [TS]

  this is a working-class yes science [TS]

  fiction world which has loved so much [TS]

  it's not campaign it's not guns back in [TS]

  its everything looks as if it's used as [TS]

  if you could just sort of walk into it [TS]

  and start living in that world I agree [TS]

  it's actually we talk about this in our [TS]

  episode about the original Ghostbusters [TS]

  movie but I said I think one of the [TS]

  things about and from 2016 you look at [TS]

  them smoking on a spaceship you're like [TS]

  oh that's a really bad idea [TS]

  somebody's opposition do you guys have [TS]

  but it is a i also read that as I do in [TS]

  ghostbusters as it is also a signal of [TS]

  like these are real people these are [TS]

  like working class people there they're [TS]

  doing a job i think i think i enjoy [TS]

  avocados performance since he's like i'm [TS]

  just so i'm just working here man [TS]

  right i think it's really good i just [TS]

  want my money yeah their banter over [TS]

  their first breakfasts feels really like [TS]

  a an organic conversation I mean these [TS]

  are these are like the space garbage men [TS]

  right so that the first conversation [TS]

  they have is about money [TS]

  Yeah right there talking about their [TS]

  bonuses that's the worried about its [TS]

  really not talking about how amazing is [TS]

  that they've just woken up from [TS]

  suspended animation [TS]

  that's one is not even mentioned you [TS]

  know are there not gimmies that the [TS]

  United space there might be a new world [TS]

  out there you like new civilizations [TS]

  like an antithesis of the star trac [TS]

  optimism this mission is over we gotta [TS]

  get home and get pay well what do you [TS]

  mean where we are delayed we don't want [TS]

  to be delayed [TS]

  yeah this isn't a star trek universe [TS]

  where we've evolved past money make [TS]

  money pay me [TS]

  when I mentioned 2001 of the way I view [TS]

  it is yeah this is this is a dirty world [TS]

  in a way that the 2001 isn't but but it [TS]

  is the pacing of it the way space is [TS]

  treated I felt like very 2001 it is [TS]

  slow and deliberate and quiet especially [TS]

  at the beginning which serves the horror [TS]

  movie part of this movie that very well [TS]

  right that it that it's using you know [TS]

  could you could argue i guess the 2001 [TS]

  is also sort of horrific and what [TS]

  eventually happens but it's it's a lot [TS]

  of things and we're not here to talk [TS]

  about 2001 that that's another episode [TS]

  that we probably never will do but it [TS]

  would be 10 hours long if we did it but [TS]

  it's it's a slow pace and and all of [TS]

  that I think works to the benefit of the [TS]

  horse stuff but but I definitely felt [TS]

  like the first time we haven't really [TS]

  even kind of broken down the plot of the [TS]

  movie here but first chunk went on the [TS]

  planet especially and their the interval [TS]

  and they get out and all that not only [TS]

  is I think the science questionable in [TS]

  there but uh which okay it's fine [TS]

  whatever but it's just it it feels it [TS]

  feels slow and and frustrating to to me [TS]

  as a modern film viewer but also at the [TS]

  same time really calls back to something [TS]

  like 2001 which was absolutely that's [TS]

  like space is quiet and it's slow and [TS]

  these things are moving very slowly [TS]

  through silence and I did appreciate [TS]

  that part of it even though it's a very [TS]

  different feeling world yeah I want to [TS]

  talk a little bit about that pacing [TS]

  which when I rewatched this the first [TS]

  time three years ago when we were [TS]

  supposed to do this movie I I made a [TS]

  note that you know as much as I love [TS]

  this movie and this is not the fault of [TS]

  the movie in any way but it as much as I [TS]

  love the movie i think it's a [TS]

  masterpiece and i think that the effects [TS]

  and things still hold up very well I [TS]

  agree it kind of doesn't work anymore [TS]

  I you know you said I disagree not [TS]

  because everything seems dated but [TS]

  because it takes so long to get going [TS]

  and for me remembering how amazing all [TS]

  of the sci-fi stuff and all the [TS]

  planetary stuff was as a kid it doesn't [TS]

  bother me because it's me it just feels [TS]

  like a really good slow burn but i think [TS]

  most modern audiences watch this stuff [TS]

  in the beginning and it's stuffed it in [TS]

  1979 it was groundbreaking and now it's [TS]

  stuff that we've seen a million times [TS]

  and i'm also going to disagree sight of [TS]

  this here especially because we call [TS]

  Dean's is now who will sit through a [TS]

  season of Game of Thrones were so it'll [TS]

  happen they are they love this little [TS]

  bird piece which is great because i'm [TS]

  completely on board with that I'd love a [TS]

  lot of seventies I can certainly see [TS]

  like John audiences and people who are [TS]

  prepared for that sort of a slow burn to [TS]

  appreciate it properly but i-i-i show [TS]

  this to my daughter who's 13 angels [TS]

  minus 14 my son who's 9 was also in the [TS]

  room and he spent the first hour like [TS]

  playing roblox he wasn't really paying [TS]

  attention but she was so bored she made [TS]

  it to the chest burster seeing as I [TS]

  insisted that she at least get and then [TS]

  I just around until Parker got [TS]

  dispatched as well because you at least [TS]

  need to see Kaiser what sort of it [TS]

  trajectory the movies beyond come on [TS]

  kids watch these people die horrific [TS]

  yeah [TS]

  yes you must was that's right it's good [TS]

  for you it's good for the soul questions [TS]

  already she was already lost to me at [TS]

  that point that the interesting thing is [TS]

  my son who who barely saw any of that [TS]

  first hour or so of the planetary [TS]

  exploration he got interested right [TS]

  around the time the chest burster [TS]

  happening closed up roadblocks and he [TS]

  watched the last hour of the movie and [TS]

  really enjoyed it but that first hour is [TS]

  so slow and you know I just I just think [TS]

  that that's it probably lose a lot of [TS]

  people who watch it I used to think that [TS]

  to be honest but and the past 10 years [TS]

  or so whenever we watched it I love the [TS]

  opening stuff more and more and i think [TS]

  i know i don't i can't speak to people [TS]

  generally but i know that for me it's [TS]

  because it really hits that sweet spot [TS]

  of space mystery with the space horror [TS]

  combination and I i just love the [TS]

  atmosphere of that the claustrophobia [TS]

  bits the gradual reveal the tiny Clues [TS]

  you get the hint that they'll do the [TS]

  spaceship thing which is completely ruin [TS]

  everything about it because of [TS]

  Prometheus I can't watch when the scenes [TS]

  big-time people without thinking of your [TS]

  God that other movie which in retrospect [TS]

  actually I wasn't too mad at Prometheus [TS]

  before until i rewatch daily and after [TS]

  and then I got very hungry i still have [TS]

  much for me this I can't bring myself to [TS]

  watch it it's interesting i kinda liked [TS]

  it it didn't hate as far as the slow [TS]

  burn stuff goes I for me I take its seat [TS]

  sort of sequence by sequence and some of [TS]

  it works and [TS]

  some of it I think doesn't the entire [TS]

  opening where they're actually on the [TS]

  ship i love it i love that it has a [TS]

  chance to breathe because likely says [TS]

  you are discovering things in every [TS]

  every shot has something you know you [TS]

  get the human touch of the like the [TS]

  little drinking birds with one of them [TS]

  in motion and one of them not and and [TS]

  all of that stuff the conversations [TS]

  everything is driving you towards [TS]

  something and giving you information [TS]

  about who these people are what the [TS]

  world is like and then you get the [TS]

  sequence of them landing on the planet [TS]

  where you're not really getting anything [TS]

  except this planet is inhospitable in [TS]

  this land is very loud [TS]

  yea so lots of alerts i was really bored [TS]

  during that point because it was slow [TS]

  and wasn't giving us any information i'm [TS]

  fine with slow as long as I'm getting [TS]

  something out of it [TS]

  can you imagine how long that little [TS]

  mechanical roosters been dipping his [TS]

  beak in that glass of internally i [TS]

  wanted to engineer that big what America [TS]

  when I rotate around was I mean and I [TS]

  wrote down this way I feel like a modern [TS]

  science which movie would do some of [TS]

  that stuff at the very beginning better [TS]

  and specifically more detail a little [TS]

  more mystery and yes a faster pace but I [TS]

  feel like that was the thing that struck [TS]

  see how it could be a little more [TS]

  detailed that there was some time we're [TS]

  kind of not a lot was happening and I [TS]

  did feel to Steve's point that you're [TS]

  meant to marvel at the scene that now [TS]

  seems a lot more pedestrian there are [TS]

  other parts of that I think are really [TS]

  great i'm not saying this whole movie [TS]

  would be made better if it was made as a [TS]

  modern blockbuster good god no I'm not [TS]

  saying that but I feel like I feel like [TS]

  it could've been a little more sort of [TS]

  sci-fi detail to intrigue you at the [TS]

  beginning that that it is just not there [TS]

  because i think at the time they figured [TS]

  it was intriguing enough for a spaceship [TS]

  landing on my alien planet what more do [TS]

  you need [TS]

  when you've got a room full of blinking [TS]

  lights that's a computer you can you [TS]

  know but soft landing soft landing soft [TS]

  landings in the bank sorts of computers [TS]

  the more lights the computer had better [TS]

  it is banking and flashing green and [TS]

  watching [TS]

  why does that computer breathe in [TS]

  context in 1979 it's not even that slow [TS]

  pace like a nineteen seventies indie [TS]

  movie will take forever and not do [TS]

  anything sure like to lay blacktop [TS]

  that's my favorite example nothing [TS]

  happens that movie and I love it [TS]

  Steve you you mentioned the influence [TS]

  and that's one of the points that I want [TS]

  to really wanted to sort of bring up was [TS]

  think about I mean how [TS]

  influential this movie is being for a [TS]

  start but also Blade Runner and you know [TS]

  the movie ready Scott made after this he [TS]

  made this blade runner in the space of [TS]

  three years two of the most influential [TS]

  sci-fi movies and in the case of alien [TS]

  horror movies of all time [TS]

  that's kind of amazing you know like [TS]

  almost every movie that's followed since [TS]

  in those genres has paid some kind of [TS]

  debts to either alien or blade runner [TS]

  it's astounding absolutely and half of [TS]

  that I quite like you made terrible [TS]

  movies now I thought the Martian was [TS]

  very very good yeah I i really like the [TS]

  Martian I i have no i haven't seen that [TS]

  we're not talking smack about 1492 [TS]

  conquest of paradise are we but any of [TS]

  us should be so lucky to make even one [TS]

  thing half as good as any other of these [TS]

  movies you know they're just so [TS]

  influential it's almost hard unless unit [TS]

  old farts like us and you've lived [TS]

  through its almost hard to appreciate [TS]

  this sort of before-and-after alien and [TS]

  blade on a state alter cinema sci fi ya [TS]

  know I don't want to suggest there's [TS]

  anything really wrong with the pacing in [TS]

  1979 I think it's actually almost [TS]

  perfectly paced for the time it was made [TS]

  it's just doesn't it doesn't really work [TS]

  i think for a lot of people in today's [TS]

  audiences got kicked myself forever for [TS]

  this I did not insist that we watch the [TS]

  movie in a darkened room away from all [TS]

  the other distractions and we did that [TS]

  was because that was because my daughter [TS]

  did not want to watch it in a darkened [TS]

  room with the other distractions she was [TS]

  a little she had some trepidation about [TS]

  it she's not watched a lot of horror [TS]

  movies so in order to get to watch it we [TS]

  had to watch it during the day and I [TS]

  think if if she had been locked in where [TS]

  she couldn't get into the other stuff [TS]

  doing physically locked it i'm not [TS]

  talking about clapping and irons it's [TS]

  amazing parenting tips you get from [TS]

  podcast speaking of darkened rooms [TS]

  though actually I did even though [TS]

  obviously I originally saw it on VHS i [TS]

  have seen it on the big screen because [TS]

  the local multiplex where i lived in the [TS]

  early nineties did a double bill of [TS]

  alien aliens it started at 9pm so you [TS]

  can imagine what time will roll [TS]

  out that and how we smelled but the main [TS]

  thing i remember was how much more [TS]

  powerful alien particularly was on the [TS]

  big screen like this was a by that point [TS]

  I'd already seen the movie fifty a [TS]

  hundred times but are seeing it on the [TS]

  big screen was like seeing it for the [TS]

  first time all over again it was [TS]

  extraordinary there were a couple of [TS]

  scenes like for example where the alien [TS]

  reveal in the air ducts when they when [TS]

  he kills Dallas was it i mean you know I [TS]

  knew it was coming and yet seeing get [TS]

  30-foot high in a darkened room [TS]

  surrounded by the dolby surround sound [TS]

  scared the crap out of me that's such a [TS]

  beautiful shot [TS]

  it's fantastic here but there were a few [TS]

  shots like that where the impact of [TS]

  seeing them at the theater on the big [TS]

  screen really made a difference so I [TS]

  mean what are the chances anybody is [TS]

  still showing alien as a special showing [TS]

  on the big screen but if anybody if you [TS]

  ever get the chance to to see it on the [TS]

  big screen do so because it really is [TS]

  extraordinary that was why I was glad i [TS]

  got to watch in college because we had [TS]

  you know it was a 35-millimeter print [TS]

  brought into the you know that the [TS]

  ballroom was great as great as it is to [TS]

  see it in the theater I've got to say [TS]

  the blu-ray of these look fantastic [TS]

  really does this if I didn't already [TS]

  have blu-ray this the alien City alien [TS]

  anthology they call the blu-ray set [TS]

  quadrille is the quadrille into is a [TS]

  dvds sorry you're right it's different [TS]

  made-up word that's it it's a [TS]

  magnificent set it's very well produced [TS]

  but the thing that really blows me away [TS]

  as I spent years watching this on VHS in [TS]

  and scan you know and pan and scan mrs. [TS]

  so much of the detail on the fringes and [TS]

  so much of the framing you know you [TS]

  don't i had forgotten having only seen [TS]

  in the theater once when I was seven so [TS]

  tonight it's unsurprising that i forgot [TS]

  but but those shots were they're [TS]

  approaching the derelict spaceship in [TS]

  pain and scan their boring as all hell [TS]

  because you only get that tiny little [TS]

  that tiny little close-up shot of them [TS]

  approaching the thing when you see it in [TS]

  its full detail [TS]

  uh [TS]

  on the blu-ray you really get the sense [TS]

  of how gigantic this thing is how tiny [TS]

  the crew is in comparison and it makes [TS]

  all the difference in the world [TS]

  those shots are all about scale and [TS]

  weird things with scale that whole thing [TS]

  is like this is much larger than it [TS]

  should be the body as much larger than [TS]

  it should be [TS]

  it's all like that and you you you're [TS]

  right you completely miss it if it's [TS]

  just cropped into the infinite little [TS]

  square and it's gorgeous I mean that the [TS]

  wreath three and whatever the [TS]

  remastering that they did on the picture [TS]

  itself the original movie did not look [TS]

  that good by any stretch of the [TS]

  imagination so let's go to the planetoid [TS]

  I and talk about the crash base ship [TS]

  because this is one of these I mean that [TS]

  we don't have that many settings in this [TS]

  film I mean we're gonna end up on the [TS]

  Nostromo and people get picked up one by [TS]

  one but we start with this spaceship and [TS]

  it's huge and if they see it through the [TS]

  kind of fog of it you ash can you see [TS]

  this [TS]

  there's a spaceship crash they find a [TS]

  dead alien in a chair it's super weird [TS]

  it's hard to understand even what you're [TS]

  seeing it's so strange and and like we [TS]

  said the scale of it is completely [TS]

  strange and it's it's a it's a scene [TS]

  that that is a scene that I could watch [TS]

  over and over again because it's so [TS]

  weird and confusing and creepy and i [TS]

  love that movie is basically saying [TS]

  figure look at this what do you think [TS]

  this looks like figure it out which is [TS]

  what it's what I feel like the scene is [TS]

  doing it makes the title of the movie [TS]

  into an adjective rather than and now [TS]

  it's like an HR giger painting looks [TS]

  like your penis is an unusual but [TS]

  otherwise it's a good yeah i lock the [TS]

  others are so many reasons i love you i [TS]

  like because it's forcing you to [TS]

  empathize with the crew and terribly for [TS]

  feeling what they're feeling is there [TS]

  exploring and texting and you know that [TS]

  I don't get that level of connection [TS]

  with a lot of movies and it's also its [TS]

  space horror in a way that's perfect for [TS]

  me because it means i can enjoy being [TS]

  scared was not being scared to leave the [TS]

  room after works because something's [TS]

  going to get me it's that there's enough [TS]

  of a disconnect that's why i'm not a fan [TS]

  of slasher movies because like that the [TS]

  world but spaced far that's brilliant [TS]

  anything can happen space horror because [TS]

  I'm never going to go into rocket [TS]

  because I'd be too scared even if i get [TS]

  so it's fine that's fine [TS]

  this is [TS]

  really why I thought this would be a [TS]

  good introductory horror movie for the [TS]

  kids because that it's like I said it's [TS]

  it's light on the blood and it's [TS]

  entirely happening somewhere that looks [TS]

  completely unlike their daily [TS]

  environment so they can disassociate [TS]

  from from anything yes I as a child who [TS]

  is reasonably easily scared that does [TS]

  help with the Space Jockey seen talking [TS]

  about scale this is where they use [TS]

  children in suits [TS]

  ah when you see longshots those are [TS]

  children wearing spacesuits walking [TS]

  around set to make everything seem [TS]

  bigger so John Hurt decides hey I know [TS]

  what I'm gonna do I'm gonna go down [TS]

  below in this weird thing and find a [TS]

  whole chamber full of things that look [TS]

  kinda like eggs [TS]

  okay and there's things in the end and [TS]

  it's actually one of the moments that I [TS]

  really love in this is when he looks at [TS]

  one at the egg and there's like movement [TS]

  on the inside [TS]

  what's in there and it's so great Ridley [TS]

  Scott's happens that's what's in there [TS]

  and it's lit up by Pink Floyd's lasers [TS]

  appear how it works like I like the fact [TS]

  that the eggs are sweating upwards I've [TS]

  always thought all looking affect the [TS]

  thing that I like about it is is sort of [TS]

  the setup for this that that makes me [TS]

  not annoyed with his choices because if [TS]

  this was a sort of a scientific crew [TS]

  that was supposed to be going out and [TS]

  investigating new world a new life and [TS]

  all that kind of stuff i would be super [TS]

  annoyed somebody who just goes in by [TS]

  himself and starts poking at crap [TS]

  oh god don't see Prometheus this is a [TS]

  bunch of you know workaday folks who [TS]

  want to get home and get their money so [TS]

  then but they're doing what they're told [TS]

  to do just so that they can get out of [TS]

  here and this particular character has [TS]

  some genuine curiosity about this stuff [TS]

  so he does go in and start looking [TS]

  around and poking and and I don't have [TS]

  to be too annoyed at him because you [TS]

  know that's that's probably what you do [TS]

  well he's the one that's all excited [TS]

  he's the one that's excited about going [TS]

  out he's the one that volunteers there [TS]

  was like why am I not surprised because [TS]

  he's clearly the guy who's into the [TS]

  whole you know exploring other worlds [TS]

  stuff it's Kane who urges them to go on [TS]

  as well when lumber wants to go back [TS]

  he's the one who's saying no we have to [TS]

  keep going [TS]

  revelation so the whole film is divided [TS]

  into 30 minute chunks [TS]

  I would have loved to see this movie and [TS]

  not know which a horror movie because [TS]

  it's called alien and you have a half [TS]

  hour of just screwed around on a [TS]

  spaceship you're thinking all right [TS]

  space movie [TS]

  where's the alien then my god what [TS]

  happened [TS]

  yes if they call this movie like space I [TS]

  scholars or something and that ice road [TS]

  spacers something like it seems like [TS]

  we're kind of going through the plot at [TS]

  this point so yeah I wanted to to bring [TS]

  in how much I appreciate having seen it [TS]

  a million times how well they do the ash [TS]

  plotline and how subtle the indications [TS]

  that he's not entirely human [TS]

  yeah kind of come in as you go along [TS]

  like and how he sort of suddenly pushing [TS]

  them to go investigate even though [TS]

  nobody really is that into it except for [TS]

  Cain like a there's a point early on [TS]

  where they land the ship has been [TS]

  damaged and Dallas a like well we can I [TS]

  think it's actually can says we can't go [TS]

  out and this because it's a you know [TS]

  it's nighttime and it's cold and the [TS]

  winds of space or blowing him and asks [TS]

  hopefully chimes in well mother says the [TS]

  sun's coming up in 20 minutes [TS]

  she's the one who also persuade your [TS]

  coast character that he should so they [TS]

  should investigate the beacon remember [TS]

  when they're right [TS]

  no just telling them all that yeah that [TS]

  we've had the SOS and he's like well [TS]

  that's not in my contract and ashes on [TS]

  his life actually it is and if you don't [TS]

  go you'll lose all your shares right [TS]

  money and really wants to go out and [TS]

  inform them that it's a warning and not [TS]

  a got call for help and he's the one who [TS]

  have chimes and well it's not much point [TS]

  in going after him by the time you get [TS]

  out there they'll know whether it's a [TS]

  warning or not so you know no bother [TS]

  ok I really have to go watch this again [TS]

  because all of this i mean i'm not [TS]

  exactly good at picking up and sort of [TS]

  plot hints that this is a luchshe never [TS]

  note and then later Ripley won't let [TS]

  them back in which is 100-percent the [TS]

  correct thing to do slightly round and [TS]

  ok just taps on the little opener go on [TS]

  in uh-huh i think my favorite to my [TS]

  favorite early bit like this is when [TS]

  he's getting ready to take his position [TS]

  at the console to watch the away team go [TS]

  out he does this really weird little jog [TS]

  in play before he heads over there and [TS]

  it's it seems completely unnatural it's [TS]

  like he's got some sort of a glitch in [TS]

  his system and he's like somehow by [TS]

  moving is his bits around he's like [TS]

  breaking rust or something [TS]

  I think that's meant to be i mean i [TS]

  don't know but i I've always wanted [TS]

  thought that's meant to be a signal to [TS]

  us for later that there is something [TS]

  wrong with him that he is malfunctioning [TS]

  because you're right there's no it's not [TS]

  like he's about to go on any kind of [TS]

  physical activity there's no point to it [TS]

  whatsoever i think that's one of this is [TS]

  one of the things that this movie does [TS]

  very well to add this entire plot point [TS]

  about ash and about the reason that this [TS]

  is all happening and I this is one of [TS]

  those cases where I think a modern movie [TS]

  would completely mess this up because [TS]

  they would a modern movie would say well [TS]

  we need to have all these reversals of [TS]

  about how they all got set up and they [TS]

  need to find out that this was always [TS]

  set up in the beginning and it needs I I [TS]

  just feel like a modern movie would [TS]

  really do a bad job of this because it [TS]

  would make they would make it more [TS]

  integral to the plot in and and the fact [TS]

  is it's not necessary it to have this [TS]

  happen it's it's cool that it happens we [TS]

  don't need a reason why we have a movie [TS]

  where a spaceship lands on a planet and [TS]

  they get infected with an alien and [TS]

  kills them all but uh but it's a nice [TS]

  bit of additional seasoning to vote to [TS]

  the reason why it happens there was a [TS]

  conspiracy it you know these people were [TS]

  set up and then you get the reveal with [TS]

  ash which is such a great sci-fi moment [TS]

  in a horror movie that it's great I just [TS]

  I feel like it is the it is a perfect [TS]

  level of integration with the plot that [TS]

  a modern movie would screw up because [TS]

  they try to do too much with it [TS]

  this is why when I show this to this to [TS]

  people who already know about the chest [TS]

  burster seen I'm not too bothered by [TS]

  that because the ash reveal is so well [TS]

  so what just happened all surprises [TS]

  because that I mean he's spinning around [TS]

  and there's fluid shooting everywhere [TS]

  don't even have the time to really deal [TS]

  with that Parker Knox's head [TS]

  yeah an air tank was some kind it's a [TS]

  fire extinguisher or something yeah his [TS]

  head flies off and he's like doing the [TS]

  chicken with his head cut off things [TS]

  with his hands [TS]

  it's great they use the white fluid [TS]

  because red would look too much like [TS]

  blood but that white fluid is really [TS]

  disturbing shit is like shooting out of [TS]

  his mouth while he's trying to talk it's [TS]

  so great being blowed that's so great [TS]

  now I mean that and that's where that's [TS]

  that's where we won't talk about mixing [TS]

  genres i love that the science-fiction [TS]

  aspect it's layered back in on it's [TS]

  almost like we start with a base coat [TS]

  base coat of of sci-fi then we lay some [TS]

  horror on top of that and then here we [TS]

  get the sci-fi on top of that again it's [TS]

  like what the f what everybody still [TS]

  pretty horrible it is always horrible [TS]

  but it's like sci-fi horrible and that's [TS]

  thatthat's this movie is nice layering [TS]

  of different source port as well because [TS]

  you've got you've got the alien and then [TS]

  you've got you the sense that their [TS]

  cooperation is not super great and then [TS]

  you've got scary android malfunction and [TS]

  trying to kill you as well as that is [TS]

  it's top surface layers within the Clery [TS]

  bits i also love how when they reconnect [TS]

  his head even though he's inside look [TS]

  completely organic you know he sort of [TS]

  like some weird sci-fi organic surgeries [TS]

  and but they still basically use jump [TS]

  leads so yeah I'm gonna take me is [TS]

  inside look like mostly like tubes and [TS]

  boba for some reason I've never really [TS]

  quite understood its gross that's what [TS]

  the insides of people look like Robonaut [TS]

  one of the things that I think most most [TS]

  interesting about the the [TS]

  special-edition DVDs that have the [TS]

  deleted scenes as you really get a sense [TS]

  of how well directed and edited this [TS]

  film was and and and the ash reveal i [TS]

  think is a perfect example of that [TS]

  because there was a an early scene i [TS]

  forget if it actually was a deleted [TS]

  scene if it was just something that got [TS]

  clipped out of the script but there's a [TS]

  scene somewhere early on where Ripley [TS]

  and Lambert are discussing whether [TS]

  either of them has slept with ash [TS]

  yeah because you know you're on a long [TS]

  space trip and basically it sounds like [TS]

  the the standard operating procedures [TS]

  you just sleep around with whoever's on [TS]

  the cruise to keep yourself from dying [TS]

  of boredom and they're both surprised [TS]

  but not entirely surprised because ash [TS]

  is kind of a weirdo that neither of them [TS]

  has actually slept with him and it's [TS]

  it's it would have been an interesting [TS]

  scene but at the same time I think it [TS]

  would have been too telegraphic [TS]

  right now what is becoming a terrific [TS]

  Lou and I love the fact that they clip [TS]

  that out because as much as I'd like to [TS]

  see that scene and I think it adds an [TS]

  interesting sort of wrinkle to the life [TS]

  in space nature of the film the fact [TS]

  that he took it out i think is is is [TS]

  very telling as to how how much care was [TS]

  taken to really make that reveal workout [TS]

  but the paranoia goes then through this [TS]

  whole franchise forward and I i love [TS]

  that aspect of it that that this is not [TS]

  this is not i just love it's not an [TS]

  accident that these people people were [TS]

  horribly killed a corporation decided to [TS]

  essentially not care if they got killed [TS]

  because they wanted to get this alien [TS]

  that's basically the story and and again [TS]

  it didn't need to happen that way but [TS]

  that's that's what it is and then we [TS]

  take for that sort of corporate [TS]

  malfeasance and people being not as [TS]

  important as prophets talk about them [TS]

  talking about money in the beginning in [TS]

  the end this is this is a another [TS]

  financial calculations that's being had [TS]

  that is exposing them to this work it's [TS]

  just an attempt and began use again is [TS]

  one of the most influential things in [TS]

  the movie like you know as someone who [TS]

  has worked on a lot of sci-fi and horror [TS]

  and sci-fi our properties let me tell [TS]

  you oh yeah oh my goodness with the [TS]

  corporation's looking for weaponized [TS]

  supernatural things and prepared to [TS]

  sacrifice the search party at every [TS]

  video game right quickly share price [TS]

  such a cliché right now it's amazing i [TS]

  think it's interesting that that whole [TS]

  storyline the whole ash thing was not [TS]

  part of the script that dan o'bannon and [TS]

  run shoes that put together but it was [TS]

  something that was suggested and then [TS]

  almost forced into the story by David [TS]

  Eyler and walter hill and I i don't [TS]

  think the an abandoned was particularly [TS]

  fond of it but it was something that [TS]

  they thought was a great idea and they [TS]

  said insisted on and I think it's [TS]

  frankly one of the best things in the [TS]

  movie yeah I think that was the right [TS]

  choice [TS]

  yeah he still cashing the checks yeah [TS]

  that's just it just puts another spin [TS]

  it's not it's another thing in the pot [TS]

  right it's just another thing that's [TS]

  happening like it's a it's not just that [TS]

  monster is killing people but it's like [TS]

  and somebody on the ship is setting it [TS]

  up so that that's okay because the [TS]

  bosses don't care but i love the fact [TS]

  that there aren't like a bunch of scenes [TS]

  like a of that makes it obvious that [TS]

  there's a mole on the crew it's just [TS]

  something that suddenly appear yeah [TS]

  ashes head flies off [TS]

  yeah that milk is applied everywhere [TS]

  like oh my god what's going on here [TS]

  it's when he tries to kill quickly that [TS]

  it's really right that's yes first real [TS]

  revelation is like I'm gonna sing but [TS]

  that leads immediately into his eyes and [TS]

  that's one long scene he tries to kill [TS]

  Ripley after we see the memo that says [TS]

  crew expendable [TS]

  yeah that's just what we talked about [TS]

  how well written and directed and edited [TS]

  and shot this movie is it's also got a [TS]

  ridiculously incredible cast [TS]

  yep yeah this movie was made 37 years [TS]

  ago and every human actor in it had a [TS]

  great career [TS]

  except for Yaphet Kotto they're all [TS]

  still working in big properties today [TS]

  and avocados heard the right to take [TS]

  some time off if he wants like you can't [TS]

  just have Harry Dean Stanton and John [TS]

  Hurt and homer standing around this [TS]

  movie does yeah they're not that [TS]

  important well any major starts to go [TS]

  any waiver you know you have cool did so [TS]

  that just looks like let's talk about [TS]

  Sigourney Weaver she is so great as we [TS]

  have talked about her a lot partially [TS]

  because we've been listening victims the [TS]

  final girl she doesn't qualify [TS]

  yeah you got your head fake right where [TS]

  she's just part of the crew but of [TS]

  course she's the one who survives and [TS]

  and and dallas has taken fairly quickly [TS]

  and it is this and she ends up being the [TS]

  one who makes everything happen in this [TS]

  in this movie and ends up being I know [TS]

  it did make a star of her and you can [TS]

  watch it you're like yep [TS]

  yeah i mean totally makes sense that [TS]

  yeah of course ripley earned her [TS]

  survival it's not like she just happens [TS]

  to be the last one she was correct so [TS]

  awfully out a lot of times in horror [TS]

  movies it is just a random girl who [TS]

  survives and I really appreciate that [TS]

  Ripley was smart and just yet barely [TS]

  smart enough to survive and I really [TS]

  liked it there wasn't anything [TS]

  incredibly like grand in her and what [TS]

  she chooses do is just a loss of times [TS]

  she makes very small decisions end up [TS]

  being the correct ones and it's that [TS]

  accumulation of all of them together [TS]

  that I her to survive rather than having [TS]

  a grand revolution moment of oh and this [TS]

  is i will save myself and sat down the [TS]

  cat and back away [TS]

  come to this decision is here that [TS]

  there's a lovely piece of this direction [TS]

  as well because you really want is right [TS]

  for the last 15 minutes of the movie [TS]

  she's the only actor on screen out you [TS]

  know apart from the guy in the alien [TS]

  sushi carries the whole rest of the [TS]

  movie but there is a lovely misdirection [TS]

  before that where is just her partner [TS]

  and lumber left and she goes off by [TS]

  herself looking for the cats looking for [TS]

  Jones and Parker Lambert are paired up [TS]

  and up until this point the alien is [TS]

  only picked off alone people so you know [TS]

  you naturally expect that she is gonna [TS]

  be the one who buys it next [TS]

  so that of course you know she doesn't [TS]

  she's busy triggering the third cat [TS]

  scare in the movie does like a literal [TS]

  cats care less where mystery but i think [TS]

  that's a lovely reversal to sort of you [TS]

  know again just kind of play with the [TS]

  audience's expectations [TS]

  although it is a little depressing that [TS]

  she sends the two of them off to collect [TS]

  coolant which apparently they don't need [TS]

  because she takes none of it with her [TS]

  onto the shuttle right i wish i would [TS]

  have been able to see this not knowing i [TS]

  mean we already talked about the chest [TS]

  burster see which of course I a new but [TS]

  I also didn't I didn't ever see it [TS]

  without knowing that sigourney weaver [TS]

  was going to survive because you know [TS]

  she went on to make the second movie so [TS]

  I hadn't even put that together that the [TS]

  movie is playing with your expectations [TS]

  when she goes off by herself because my [TS]

  expectations were always just that she [TS]

  would survive so okay good job [TS]

  filmmakers a even better than I thought [TS]

  but one thing i really like is the [TS]

  double back that happens we're so the [TS]

  idea is ok there's only three of us left [TS]

  we're gonna self-destruct and we're [TS]

  going to get out in the shuttle and that [TS]

  doesn't go well but yeah but Ripley [TS]

  starts to self-destruct which is cool [TS]

  nice little bit of of uh of set design [TS]

  and and prop design there with the whole [TS]

  like it is intricate is so tactile right [TS]

  now physical of course in an essential [TS]

  part of the self-destruct system is to [TS]

  turn on fog machines and strobe lights [TS]

  the entire shipment she's she's not just [TS]

  flipping switches and you know she's [TS]

  actually moving things and pushing [TS]

  things and yeah I just pulling things [TS]

  out of the ground is wonderful as a lot [TS]

  of disco lights to turn on but then but [TS]

  then what was great is she finds out [TS]

  uh-oh you know here's the they're dead [TS]

  the alien is here i love that she goes [TS]

  back to try and turn off the [TS]

  self-destruct and you get the ticket so [TS]

  you don't just get the countdown to [TS]

  destroy [TS]

  action you get the countdown to when [TS]

  it's a replicable that it's going to be [TS]

  destroyed and she fails she does she [TS]

  doesn't get it so at that point she's [TS]

  like I guess I gotta get my cat and get [TS]

  out of here i just i love that we get to [TS]

  countdowns there and we get the the like [TS]

  okay plan a and then planet doesn't work [TS]

  she's like all right I guess I'll go [TS]

  turn it off [TS]

  hope that didn't work either now I'll go [TS]

  i love how it's going to definitely [TS]

  pissed off she is at that moment too [TS]

  soon ashes mother's monitor and then the [TS]

  whole way back down the hall towards the [TS]

  cat she's screaming and shouting [TS]

  obscenities fantastic i love that she [TS]

  takes care of the cat during all this [TS]

  many lesser hero would have just left [TS]

  the poor thing to die but no no she news [TS]

  priorities cat lucky [TS]

  oh I love the cat throughout i love the [TS]

  cat III have this in my notes I went to [TS]

  mention we brought up the county few [TS]

  times i love the cat i love the first [TS]

  time we see the cat where it's like [TS]

  there's this bright orange cat on this [TS]

  spaceship it's like whoa what is this [TS]

  movie like like I I could accept aliens [TS]

  bursting out of people's just but people [TS]

  just kind of have a cat on the spaceship [TS]

  it's great and strange and then they use [TS]

  the cat for scares and then she saves [TS]

  the cat I love everything about having [TS]

  the cat and the cat is a metaphor for [TS]

  ripley's humanity [TS]

  the cat is Ripley's weakness and if she [TS]

  would have let its size you have a much [TS]

  better time in the next two movies and [TS]

  Liz she does leave it in harm's way if [TS]

  you watch the directors cut the [TS]

  director's cut has the scene where the [TS]

  alien finds the captain like bats [TS]

  suicide because it's not arrested which [TS]

  thank God they cut out because to me all [TS]

  these are free and where were you just [TS]

  see the alien creeping up on the cat and [TS]

  then it cuts away before you see it [TS]

  knock it away is I originally was sure [TS]

  that the cat had been implanted with an [TS]

  alien in some ride huh [TS]

  and that that was going to be that the [TS]

  false ending at the end is going to be [TS]

  the cat you know looking creepy or maybe [TS]

  having something burst out of its chest [TS]

  for the sequel alien to an attack [TS]

  exactly by the way where does the [TS]

  cabbage leaf initially is there a little [TS]

  kitty ago [TS]

  well yes I hope so that that's that's [TS]

  headcanon must be in somebody's pod [TS]

  somebody gets hurt [TS]

  I think there's a little kitty sleep [TS]

  obviously that is the most groan worthy [TS]

  scene in the movie where there's like [TS]

  across the floor and strengthen the best [TS]

  set to ruin the whole chest / seem to be [TS]

  the very first time I saw it because [TS]

  that was also explain [TS]

  there's this ridiculous little thing [TS]

  running across the screen before it [TS]

  happened so then we could all laughed [TS]

  and I was like okay that's great [TS]

  so having seen in the theater in 1979 i [TS]

  can tell you that that scene was [TS]

  actually surprisingly effective her and [TS]

  it was specifically because everybody [TS]

  lost their stuff in alien popped out [TS]

  right and then words it's across the [TS]

  table in that ridiculous fashion its [TS]

  comic relief everybody interesting and [TS]

  it wasn't like that released english it [TS]

  was like oh my god that was hilarious [TS]

  and I assume the chest burster had to go [TS]

  eat five tons of food to grow into a [TS]

  giant monster yeah it really is probably [TS]

  the result did people at becoming the [TS]

  part of the first one it it just ate [TS]

  john hurt from the inside that was just [TS]

  an its boundary well the food stores ya [TS]

  little pride or pencil or whatever then [TS]

  and end it end it and it smokes on the [TS]

  tip because of this acid and it's like I [TS]

  love that that's so creepy like [TS]

  oh it's asking how bad is it well how [TS]

  far down did it burn all the way down [TS]

  it's a very bad i love that because they [TS]

  don't even do anything with it in this [TS]

  movie stressed no no just so you know [TS]

  you can't cut into it was made of asking [TS]

  what they do because that's that's why [TS]

  they can't remove the facehugger off of [TS]

  Cain [TS]

  well yeah but that that's just one [TS]

  moment they could have found another [TS]

  reason for that but they don't expand on [TS]

  and there's no explanation for that all [TS]

  wrapped up the tench and sure but like [TS]

  this why not start with them like that [TS]

  to start with you know it's right it's [TS]

  not [TS]

  oh I can't think of any good headcanon [TS]

  to explain that that's annoying [TS]

  I all I can it's a day the mother linked [TS]

  all of the motion sensors on the ship [TS]

  together and they were tied into that at [TS]

  the end mother did it's like a wizard [TS]

  with a comb-over [TS]

  yeah my mother's not very helpful tho [TS]

  bad another we don't yet know how [TS]

  powerful that machine is because she's [TS]

  got so many lights and even though the [TS]

  monitor is about 13 inches across you [TS]

  stepping into a chair that's facing her [TS]

  to start with I'd never just about the [TS]

  better to appreciate the 360 degree [TS]

  scene so she gets on the she goes back [TS]

  get on the shuttle and this is where we [TS]

  was a close one lose three times while [TS]

  unless it's simple it's got different [TS]

  parts that explode slightly different [TS]

  times I guess explode surprisingly [TS]

  loudly considering that it's in space [TS]

  people who you explode they just gave [TS]

  you can hear you scream but you can hear [TS]

  every other sound I don't normally [TS]

  object to that but if you make it their [TS]

  tagline I feel and the last explosion [TS]

  has like the 2001 slits counterfeit yes [TS]

  of course very strange [TS]

  we're done we're done she's safe it's [TS]

  all okay Freddie's dead i should i want [TS]

  to point out that the false ending here [TS]

  is unfortunately probably the one thing [TS]

  that I don't think works very well [TS]

  because there's no doubt as she's [TS]

  leisurely taking off her clothes and [TS]

  getting prepared for her long space [TS]

  journey that something else is yet see [TS]

  it yeah seems a weird [TS]

  meet in the middle and then she took off [TS]

  her clothes and went in a pod the end [TS]

  ok when I was 11 years old I totally [TS]

  bought it I got shocked [TS]

  yeah when I was when I first saw this I [TS]

  remember thinking that they seen the [TS]

  revelation of the alien was you know [TS]

  hiding in plain sight was the most [TS]

  awesome thing I had ever seen in my life [TS]

  just absolutely incredible blew my mind [TS]

  I loved it to bits [TS]

  now I watching I think how would there [TS]

  be a bit gap big enough for him to fit [TS]

  in but at the time at the time I loved [TS]

  it [TS]

  well in such convenient proximity to all [TS]

  those five machines that can be used to [TS]

  collect yeah I love that scene but but [TS]

  just use point my feeling is something [TS]

  has to be it doesn't feel like the the [TS]

  end of a movie right it doesn't feel [TS]

  like what about what to fake me out you [TS]

  need to make it feel like the credits [TS]

  are going to roll at any moment and then [TS]

  they don't and that didn't happen here [TS]

  where it's like boy it seems like we're [TS]

  waiting around a long time I guess [TS]

  something else is gonna happen even in [TS]

  79 that the fake ending was a trope I [TS]

  mean Carrie was 1976 and that was done [TS]

  better than this and they could vary i [TS]

  think they feel like they could very [TS]

  easily have made this work a little [TS]

  better by having her sit down and do her [TS]

  final transmission that sheet that they [TS]

  say for the end of the movie have her [TS]

  start that you've got a reason for her [TS]

  to be still on the ship but rather than [TS]

  flashing panties [TS]

  yeah she's coming not that I'm [TS]

  complaining about that necessarily mean [TS]

  you know receiving was a lovely woman [TS]

  but a tease that's a real shame for me [TS]

  because that is kind of the only thing [TS]

  that really sort of spoils and dates the [TS]

  movie for me it's just the completely [TS]

  gratuitous underwear shots [TS]

  yeah especially in comparison to the [TS]

  style of the underwear that all the [TS]

  dudes are wearing very like just workmen [TS]

  like just white underwear and that i [TS]

  love the fact that many characters were [TS]

  all written so they could easily be [TS]

  gender swap and that comes across in the [TS]

  script very well all the characters just [TS]

  relate to each other as people and yet [TS]

  the costuming is so vastly different it [TS]

  doesn't seem like they would have that [TS]

  different of under clothes for for each [TS]

  person when it comes to the women there [TS]

  was a huge fabric shortage because it's [TS]

  the future and well as what we had to do [TS]

  Kane seems like the kind of guy who [TS]

  would be wearing boring underwear [TS]

  though I thought the one thing i do love [TS]

  about the fact that I mean there are [TS]

  many things i love but one thing I [TS]

  really love about the fact the Ripley is [TS]

  the one who survives is that she is the [TS]

  only member of the crew who tries to [TS]

  outsmart the alien rather than taking on [TS]

  toto like everyone well I mean lumber [TS]

  just tries to you know Escape and run [TS]

  but all of the men try and take it on [TS]

  there like I'm gonna kill that thing we [TS]

  can take it out let's flush out the [TS]

  airlock I'll kill it with a flamethrower [TS]

  whatever and of course all complete felt [TS]

  she's the only one who tries to out [TS]

  think it and think how can we how can we [TS]

  escape how can we get away from it [TS]

  rather than try to actually kill it yet [TS]

  is a little weird that she strips down [TS]

  there although there is sort of a point [TS]

  to it which is to make her even more [TS]

  vulnerable [TS]

  I'm not sure it's necessary because [TS]

  she's already so underpowered compared [TS]

  to the alien they've already shown that [TS]

  even you somebody armed with a [TS]

  flamethrower is vulnerable so yeah but [TS]

  it's kind of like those thoughts you [TS]

  have sometimes when you go in and use [TS]

  the restroom and you're like this would [TS]

  be a really bad place for a serial [TS]

  killer to pop up there [TS]

  yeah cuz i think that all the time [TS]

  you've never had that that perfect i [TS]

  will now you don't go to the same rest [TS]

  stop slavery yeah this is [TS]

  stop slavery yeah this is [TS]

  so I don't watch / movies because that's [TS]

  what would happen every day [TS]

  yeah i would not have had a problem with [TS]

  her in her underwear if it would have [TS]

  been more like you know just a t-shirt [TS]

  or a wife beater top and some you know [TS]

  like boy shorts or something like that [TS]

  because I mean those little bikini [TS]

  underwear I worn underwear like that and [TS]

  that they can be comfortable enough but [TS]

  underneath you know work suits in [TS]

  spacesuits and all that kind of stuff I [TS]

  feel like probably not the most [TS]

  appropriate choice a one-piece jumpsuit [TS]

  probably made out of polyester yeah i [TS]

  mean honestly if she had been wearing [TS]

  something that was pretty much exactly [TS]

  the same as what John Hurt was wearing [TS]

  only just tailored for her slightly [TS]

  curvy or form i think it would have been [TS]

  every bit as sexy and would have made a [TS]

  lot more sense [TS]

  personally I would have advised against [TS]

  the use of chuck taylors as work boots [TS]

  which we do see what we're doing isn't a [TS]

  mission for the style over substance [TS]

  maybe some steel toes i think it's [TS]

  interesting that Sigourney was cast as [TS]

  this character because you kind of want [TS]

  her to be vulnerable and she is [TS]

  vulnerable but security is pretty tall [TS]

  like even when she's hanging around with [TS]

  the cast you can tell she's taller than [TS]

  a lot of the guy [TS]

  yeah well Veronica Cartwright was [TS]

  originally going to play rippling yeah [TS]

  and she would fit that she's much more [TS]

  sort of physically more you know less [TS]

  imposing more vulnerable [TS]

  yeah I'm and I'm glasses she's no I'm [TS]

  glad I'm glad we forgot the exiting [TS]

  that's something that when i noticed [TS]

  when i noticed the past old woman and [TS]

  they're not afraid to show how tall that [TS]

  one actually is this a lot in gosh there [TS]

  nor Wales the librarians we've cast era [TS]

  beckham asian is is the leading that and [TS]

  she's very tall and they don't try to [TS]

  disguise the fact she's much taller than [TS]

  the men and i love that here as well [TS]

  because it's it's just it's just one of [TS]

  those things that television does all [TS]

  the time so you get this idea that women [TS]

  are small and therefore physically [TS]

  weaker his computer so when we get a [TS]

  woman who is actually tall and powerful [TS]

  you know that's that's an important [TS]

  symbol at least to me and I also think [TS]

  it would be a shame if Veronica [TS]

  Cartwright was not playing Lambert [TS]

  because she is magnificent i know she [TS]

  was not a fan of how I guess you [TS]

  characterize the character is [TS]

  emotionally weak but I think she [TS]

  is perfect because she's the only one of [TS]

  the crew who is acting in a realistic [TS]

  fashion to the situation there has been [TS]

  yeah just completely Wiggin out and [TS]

  she's magnificent added I mean [TS]

  she'sshe's she is not running out of her [TS]

  no citizen [TS]

  yeah and she's not wrong she has the [TS]

  most extreme reaction to the chest [TS]

  burster as well and that's one of the [TS]

  case she was one of the people who had [TS]

  no idea who didn't know it was going to [TS]

  be as bloody as all that right at one [TS]

  extreme they were gonna go to and so her [TS]

  reaction when she saw freaks and you [TS]

  know it is just like waving her hands [TS]

  around having hysterics that's genuine [TS]

  that's really is a kind of an unscripted [TS]

  reaction Cartwright's comments but [TS]

  they're all I think I'm very sympathetic [TS]

  that mean is it's a powerpoint and movie [TS]

  like this how many times is it at a [TS]

  horror movie where the person who is [TS]

  freaking out the most who's the one who [TS]

  is crying and shrieking with destruction [TS]

  forever if it's gonna be realistic [TS]

  how many times is that guy how many [TS]

  times a woman and it's overwhelmingly is [TS]

  gonna be a woman can I direct you to [TS]

  aliens where it is a guy yeah yeah I but [TS]

  him but you have to admit that's in the [TS]

  minority men generally speaking for the [TS]

  other hand I really i do love her [TS]

  performance and I love her character and [TS]

  yet as you said she's the one who's to [TS]

  me most identifiable for the for the [TS]

  audience because for me because that is [TS]

  how i would act in that situation so [TS]

  she's also you know she's the audience [TS]

  identify so it's it's one of those [TS]

  things where I can totally understand [TS]

  where their criticisms coming from was [TS]

  also i'm more on the fence about it [TS]

  because i really really like her right [TS]

  she's cheese if not put in this [TS]

  situation she also is a tough person I [TS]

  mean you can sort of sense it from her [TS]

  sort of smartass comments about no great [TS]

  we're gonna go on the planet and that [TS]

  it's not our system and she I know that [TS]

  under breath I know that and there's [TS]

  there's actually i think a deleted scene [TS]

  that I that shows up in the director's [TS]

  cut that I think they would have been [TS]

  well served to keep in where when when [TS]

  Ripley comes down to see how can is [TS]

  doing after they finally let him into [TS]

  the ship she comes up to Ripley and [TS]

  smacks your heart and in there ready to [TS]

  fight oh yeah yeah and it's it's it's a [TS]

  really good fight scene i mean it's it's [TS]

  visceral it looks like she's genuinely [TS]

  pissed and you get a sense of how [TS]

  tougher character actually is from that [TS]

  so that's one of the few where I think [TS]

  maybe they would if they would have been [TS]

  well served to keep that in although [TS]

  there again I mean that saying has a bit [TS]

  of complexity because yes strong [TS]

  character but why she's slapping Ripley [TS]

  because Ripley didn't want to let came [TS]

  back inside the ship so it's kind of [TS]

  strength because of empathy and weakness [TS]

  so yeah again I'm sure you necessarily [TS]

  want to tie empathy and weakness [TS]

  together well but you know better if [TS]

  we're just talking sort of in terms of [TS]

  pure character stuff i just think it is [TS]

  good it makes for a more complex [TS]

  character which she is and it would be [TS]

  very easy for her to have just been the [TS]

  scream queen of the movie and I think [TS]

  yes she clearly does much more than that [TS]

  in the role her reaction to that empathy [TS]

  is not to you know Stu and didn't make a [TS]

  little side long comment she smacks [TS]

  Ripley heard its two components ready to [TS]

  kill her [TS]

  it's so good this movie i just i love it [TS]

  so much so so many things about it I [TS]

  haven't even covered half of my notes [TS]

  but yeah well this is that this is your [TS]

  chance this is the we you know she's [TS]

  going out today so she yeah well i mean [TS]

  i can tell you what happens at the end [TS]

  which is she basically fires a grappling [TS]

  hook at the thing and and blows it out [TS]

  end because it if it sticks in the like [TS]

  with the alien and then she can just go [TS]

  with the cat into the stasis pod and [TS]

  that's the actual end of the movie and [TS]

  should reach the frontier in six weeks [TS]

  yeah yeah it's gonna be fine everyone [TS]

  good luck gonna be mine [TS]

  I like that they don't milk that second [TS]

  false ending it's not like oh no the [TS]

  alien is floating in space and it's [TS]

  gonna claw its way into the ship knows [TS]

  seconds later she couldn't have engines [TS]

  Mac I actually kind of wish that they [TS]

  didn't have I mean the voice-over at the [TS]

  end is good it's fine you know it's not [TS]

  sort of an offensive voiceover like [TS]

  later or something haha [TS]

  alright disagree with you but I almost [TS]

  wish that they didn't do it because [TS]

  that's the only dialogue for like the [TS]

  last 10 minutes of the movie and the [TS]

  movie starts with almost 10 minutes of [TS]

  complete lighting not silence but no [TS]

  dialogue [TS]

  it's almost seven minutes into the movie [TS]

  before anybody speaks at all like any [TS]

  human sounds at all and it's longer than [TS]

  that at the end of the movie or would be [TS]

  if she didn't you know do the Captain's [TS]

  Log thing so I was just kind of a shame [TS]

  that there isn't that symmetry I think [TS]

  what it is you know it is still a good [TS]

  speech I i can if you're looking at i [TS]

  need the end because I I need some I [TS]

  need a good [TS]

  I you know be as subtle as you like all [TS]

  through the movie no animals you have to [TS]

  do that but give me an anvil issues [TS]

  conclusion ok slap their animal down [TS]

  there getting offensive closure that's [TS]

  what I need [TS]

  so for for for me that was that was [TS]

  something cool actually liked Steve's [TS]

  idea of veggie that she says that she [TS]

  filed her report at the beginning and [TS]

  then discovers that the alien is there [TS]

  and then at the end after she killed the [TS]

  alien maybe she just press the send [TS]

  button like done let's go [TS]

  yeah I hadn't really thought about it [TS]

  but if you're thinking in terms of [TS]

  symmetry maybe you can forgive that [TS]

  false ending for being because it's just [TS]

  her being silent in the ship briefly she [TS]

  talks to the cat but otherwise she just [TS]

  cruising around so that is sort of [TS]

  similar to the beginning of the film [TS]

  again in that respect I i think the time [TS]

  where I ask anybody have anything we [TS]

  haven't covered the day that you'd like [TS]

  to mention those but there was one thing [TS]

  that I just wanted to say about the the [TS]

  first kill [TS]

  seems we're talking about pacing earlier [TS]

  that seemed takes minutes minutes [TS]

  minutes of screen time leading up to you [TS]

  know when Brett's looking for the cat [TS]

  well it starts with like three of them [TS]

  looking for the catalyst and break off [TS]

  by himself and you get if you listen to [TS]

  I mean it's really well directed well [TS]

  staged it takes ages that are so many [TS]

  false you know sort of false beats where [TS]

  you think this is where it's gonna die [TS]

  but he doesn't you know and then you [TS]

  know this is really gonna die any [TS]

  doesn't and but if you listen to the [TS]

  sound design of that it's amazing they [TS]

  combine all these mechanical sounds more [TS]

  minutes it sounds like like air [TS]

  conditioning all sort of [TS]

  fans another minute so I've suddenly [TS]

  sounds like a heartbeat pounding and [TS]

  then it will become something else yes i [TS]

  want to mention that as well that's [TS]

  whenever there's a kill seen they're [TS]

  almost always in a section of the ship [TS]

  where they're close to what I assume is [TS]

  some piece of the engine equipment [TS]

  because there's that from that sounds [TS]

  for all the world like a like a [TS]

  heartbeat when it's muffled and it [TS]

  happens for I think every single kill [TS]

  seen there may be one or two that are [TS]

  different but I don't know who did the [TS]

  sound design but whoever did you know [TS]

  should have won an award as well because [TS]

  the eighties when it's extraordinary [TS]

  throughout the whole movie but that [TS]

  particular scene really stands out to me [TS]

  because there is no dialogue because it [TS]

  is just Brett walking through areas of [TS]

  the ship on his own going here kitty [TS]

  kitty [TS]

  and you know and that's it and so all [TS]

  you've got and there's no music either [TS]

  it's all just sound design not music so [TS]

  you go back in and watch that again and [TS]

  really pay attention to what you're [TS]

  listening to and it really kind of plays [TS]

  with you and directs your emotions and [TS]

  the anticipation you have because you [TS]

  know that's what he's gonna cock it you [TS]

  know you know this is the moment he's [TS]

  gonna die and it really plays with your [TS]

  expectations while the sound team won [TS]

  the bafta for best sound 0 did they are [TS]

  excellent so there are no worries [TS]

  so what we Brits appreciated the crap [TS]

  yeah I was going to mention that because [TS]

  that is great and I was also going to [TS]

  mention the Goldsmith score which I [TS]

  really love [TS]

  no yeah it's it's it's interesting that [TS]

  he composed an entirely almost entirely [TS]

  separate scorps it was mostly more [TS]

  traditional almost 2001 ask classical [TS]

  music and Ridley Scott I guess chopped [TS]

  all the hell and replaced a bunch of it [TS]

  was stuff from previous scores that he [TS]

  done and and I think it's great i love [TS]

  the the sort of earrings particularly in [TS]

  the opening when the letters are [TS]

  appearing on the screen and it's just [TS]

  like that sort of feedback almost more [TS]

  than actual score [TS]

  yeah the whole opening sequences so [TS]

  iconic you know and it's to the point [TS]

  where it's one of those things that [TS]

  hasn't been copied and wasn't [TS]

  influential because it's so distinct and [TS]

  so iconic you can't do it without [TS]

  everybody going on it's alien [TS]

  it's so recognizable it's of England I [TS]

  love it it's so welcome i wanted to [TS]

  recommend a couple other movies to show [TS]

  where alien came [TS]

  from in 1974 John Carpenter directed his [TS]

  first feature length film dark star [TS]

  which is fun it's super super cheap and [TS]

  the important part is that it's [TS]

  basically three different stories and [TS]

  one of them is alien butt done worse cuz [TS]

  Ridley Scott is better visuals and the [TS]

  screenplay was by dan o'bannon and after [TS]

  dark star came out crazy visionary [TS]

  director alejandro jodorowsky whose name [TS]

  I'm probably not probably correctly was [TS]

  going to [TS]

  yeah he was going to make a movie of [TS]

  dune oh I wish the documentary thing to [TS]

  guess when him he was different [TS]

  yeah the boat the other movie i'm [TS]

  recommending is the movie yer oskis do [TS]

  now which explains the movie he would [TS]

  have made which was crazy it would have [TS]

  been 18 hours long and have people of [TS]

  space sperm and all sorts of things i [TS]

  recommend Jodorowsky's holy mountain if [TS]

  you want an idea of what it might have [TS]

  looked like yeah I like your house key [TS]

  much more after watching your house keys [TS]

  dude because he seems so normal in it [TS]

  and after just watching movies i thought [TS]

  this is a crazy man crazy and have [TS]

  something relatively friends yeah he's [TS]

  quite nice is all it's just like I don't [TS]

  want to watch your movie [TS]

  I'm not terrified and here you have you [TS]

  read any of these graphic novels that he [TS]

  is a crazy crazy man yeah but for doing [TS]

  he put together a team that was dan [TS]

  o'bannon to do the special effects and [TS]

  for visual concepts Mobius and HR geeker [TS]

  sir [TS]

  and when his movie fell apart some of [TS]

  them went off and kind of coalesced [TS]

  towards alien and that's why you have a [TS]

  demo band story and HR giger designs [TS]

  some of which had been originally made [TS]

  for doing if you are familiar with alien [TS]

  and dude you may wonder where those [TS]

  images would have showed up the answer [TS]

  is everywhere [TS]

  I'm really glad that they went with [TS]

  Geiger rather than Mobius though because [TS]

  i love Mobius you know I love him as an [TS]

  as an artist [TS]

  and as a graphic novelist but an alien [TS]

  designed by Mobius rather than Geiger [TS]

  would have been so so different and i'm [TS]

  just not sure it would have had the same [TS]

  impact that this movie did I feel like [TS]

  you needed someone crazy like your house [TS]

  key to look at gieger and say you should [TS]

  work on movies and then get him far [TS]

  enough into the system so that Ridley [TS]

  Scott could say yeah we can work on that [TS]

  you're gonna have to redo a lot of these [TS]

  to make them less explicit including the [TS]

  painting that actually influence the [TS]

  alien design itself which is just ease [TS]

  the alien you look at it and its light [TS]

  will okay if we just remove the giant [TS]

  penis he sees gonna know there's a whole [TS]

  lot of elements of violation in this [TS]

  obviously the implantation by the embryo [TS]

  there's the very phallic scene of ash [TS]

  trying to choke Ripley other newspaper [TS]

  which happens right in front of a bunch [TS]

  of nudie pics that are pasted to the [TS]

  wall true i mean they aren't they are [TS]

  really shy about the sexual i think the [TS]

  magazine himself that he rolls up might [TS]

  be a nudie mag probably quite like we [TS]

  didn't really talk about it but gers [TS]

  design is such an essential part of the [TS]

  whole movie you can't get bigger without [TS]

  getting penis yes but not right but you [TS]

  would have this was saying you wouldn't [TS]

  have alien I don't think without Tigers [TS]

  designs because I just don't think [TS]

  anybody I don't think any other design [TS]

  would have been so radical lighting and [TS]

  it's hard to think now be nice sometime [TS]

  this was a radical design at all [TS]

  a4a sci-fi alien creature and I don't [TS]

  think any other conceptual artist [TS]

  working at that time would have come up [TS]

  with something quite so innovative [TS]

  unusual and simultaneously horrifying [TS]

  and disturbing but yeah it's chris stuff [TS]

  i want to mention you mentioned uh the [TS]

  general Smith score and I would just [TS]

  mention this is the same year that he [TS]

  did the Star Trek the motion picture [TS]

  score that's right wow there's a lot [TS]

  going on there he also scored outland [TS]

  which I wanted to mention because it's [TS]

  got a similar vibe to it it's high noon [TS]

  and [TS]

  based on yeah but that's a that's pure [TS]

  hi our behinds directed and sean [TS]

  connery's and that it literally is high [TS]

  noon except on Saturn the moons of [TS]

  Saturn it's it's a mining colony yeah [TS]

  it's it's a it's really good and weird [TS]

  but it has a similar vibe to this except [TS]

  of course they're the the monsters are [TS]

  us because that's what spoilers for [TS]

  outland chasing monsters are us in this [TS]

  to that's the whole reason they get sent [TS]

  down to that planet suppose that's true [TS]

  you're right Steve Martin corporate [TS]

  masters yeah a couple of quick notes i [TS]

  wanted to get too i love the fact that [TS]

  what they're flying in is a commercial [TS]

  towing vehicle because it really adds to [TS]

  the whole this is a really unglamorous [TS]

  kinds of people aspect of things [TS]

  yeah well in the design of it again is [TS]

  so it's like it's not streamlined in any [TS]

  notes utilitarian sort of yeah on [TS]

  aerodynamic industrial bulky and [TS]

  workmanlike there's no there's no [TS]

  paucity in this movie I think that's [TS]

  what separates it from a lot of sci-fi [TS]

  the game before is there's no campus or [TS]

  pomposity about it i really like the [TS]

  scene where there's there's there's a [TS]

  setup scene where Parker and bread or [TS]

  down in the bowels of the ship and [TS]

  they're complaining about their bonuses [TS]

  and they keep saying why do they never [TS]

  come down here and then later when [TS]

  Ripley decided she's going to come down [TS]

  to expect the damage from inspect the [TS]

  damage from the landing this hey what [TS]

  the hell is she coming down here for her [TS]

  yep don't worry right you'll get [TS]

  whatever is going to that's right Amen [TS]

  he does i love the set design on the [TS]

  maintenance areas that Brett goes [TS]

  through my talked about that already but [TS]

  i like the fact that they have indoor [TS]

  rain and for no apparent reason she's [TS]

  from the cooling systems yeah it's it's [TS]

  just it's condensation but he takes he [TS]

  takes a moment to take off his hat and [TS]

  enjoy the indoor range before he sets [TS]

  off to find the cat she's probably his [TS]

  own recycled sweat Ridley Scott early on [TS]

  said I like fog and rain we're gonna put [TS]

  it everywhere and I like chains banging [TS]

  into each other we need some chains [TS]

  hanging from the ceiling for some reason [TS]

  i love the lighting design in Dallas's [TS]

  traipsing through the ducts seen how [TS]

  he's just got this tiny little cone of [TS]

  light that follows him around and the [TS]

  way it reflects off of the the doors [TS]

  that sort of others in Ryan I viruses [TS]

  you have a fantastic [TS]

  and.and to add to that the lighting in [TS]

  the scene where the alien does catch up [TS]

  to him and it looks like he's reaching [TS]

  for him to give them a real big hug but [TS]

  it speaks to what I think was the genius [TS]

  of this which is a they wanted to reveal [TS]

  as little of the alien as possible [TS]

  Intel they absolutely had to show more [TS]

  of it alright well this has been has [TS]

  been good good good i'm glad we got to [TS]

  talk about this movie i hope everybody [TS]

  got through without being too scared my [TS]

  daughter didn't she got too scared [TS]

  oh but it's a classic will have to come [TS]

  back and talk about that aliens movie [TS]

  someday it's a very different movie on [TS]

  all before that happens therefore I [TS]

  don't know I don't know what it was [TS]

  seven years between the movies yeah so [TS]

  episode number for the aliens because [TS]

  then somebody will notice and then go [TS]
